Based on this adorable anon, thank you for letting me expand on your idea ❤️
Tumblr media
"Ugh, I really need Carmy and Sydney to get together already." You took another bite of your ice cream, sinking further into your spot on the couch. You and Jack were catching up on episodes of The Bear, because you promised not to watch it while Jack was on the road. He had a rare day off in between his busy schedule and you were trying to spend as much time together before you were going to be apart for another two weeks.
"What time do you have to be at the jet tomorrow, babe?"
You looked over at Jack next to you, expecting a response, but your boyfriend was sound asleep, his chest rising and falling with each breath. You pressed pause on the remote, chuckling to yourself as you watched his lips hang open, a little bit of drool pooling on the corner of his mouth.
You cleared your throat to get his attention, Jack's eyes fluttering open.
"What are you doing? I was watching that", He grumbled out, running his hands over his face.
"Oh really? Tell me what just happened in this episode." Jack crossed his arms over his chest. "Well, there were people cooking and yelling." You tilted your head at him, your spoon hanging out of your mouth.
"I mean, technically you're not wrong", you chuckled, "but you missed the part with the explosion that destroyed the restaurant."
"What?!?" Jack shot up in his seat, his eyes growing wide.
"I'm just kidding, but baby, you need to go to bed. You're exhausted and you have to be at the airport really early in the morning."
Jack ran his fingers through his hair, stroking his beard as he stood up. "Ok, let's go to bed."
"I'm gonna stay up a little longer and watch a few more episodes." You turned your focus back to the TV, pressing play.
"Are you sure?" He asked, walking over and pressing his hands into the couch as he hovered over you. He was hoping that you would join him because he always slept better when you were next to him.
"Yeah", you looked up, puckering your lips, Jack meeting you the rest of the way for a quick kiss. "Goodnight, baby."
****
Jack changed into a tank top and sweatpants, going through his routine as he wound down for the night.
He settled into his side of the mattress with a groan, stretching out his limbs. He closed his eyes thinking he was going to drift off to sleep immediately, but his mind just wouldn't shut off. If he wasn't thinking about his packed schedule tomorrow, lyrics for a new verse were running through his head. He tossed and turned, unable to get comfortable.
His ego would never let him admit it to you, but he needed your touch to sleep. You were breaking his routine: he would lay on your chest, the pattern of your breathing lulling him to sleep while you gently rubbed his chest, or your fingers would twirl around his curls.
Thinking only a couple of minutes had passed, he checked his phone: 12:15 AM. It had been over half an hour since he said goodnight to you, and he was nowhere near going to sleep.
Jack: Are you coming to bed?
You: Yeah episode is almost over
He let another 10 minutes pass before he decided to get up. He stumbled down the stairs, the light from the TV guiding him to the living room.
"What's wrong, Jack?" You watched him walk into the room, and pick up the remote off the couch, turning off the TV.
"The TV show is not going anywhere, but your boyfriend is and he needs you to go to bed." You chuckled, standing up and grabbing his hand. "Oh my poor baby, I'm sorry. If I would have known, I would have gone up with you." Jack pressed a kiss into your forehead, and the two of you went upstairs.
Jack laid on his stomach as he watched you change into your pajamas and brush your teeth. You pressed a knee into the mattress as you applied lotion to your body and lip balm to your lips. Once you were in bed, you opened your arms to him, Jack pressing his back against your chest, settling into your hold. He pulled your arms tight around his torso, as you nuzzled your face against his back.
"Goodnight, baby." You whispered against his skin, pressing a kiss into his shoulder blade.
All you heard where the sounds of snores leaving Jack's lips.

Best Female Spy Movies & TV Shows to Watch After Black Widow
https://ift.tt/eA8V8J
Black Widow is out, bringing the women-led spy genre to the Marvel Cinematic Universe. The film follows Natasha Romanov in the time between Captain America: Civil War and Avengers: Infinity War as she works to bring down the Red Room, aka the Soviet-affiliated program that took her as a baby and brainwashed her into becoming an assassin. While the women-centric spy drama may be new for the MCU, it’s has been one of the most prolific and entertaining action sub-genres over the past few decades. If you’ve watched Black Widow and you’re looking for more taut and emotional spy thrillers to check out, we have some TV and film suggestions for you…
Hanna
Many have seen the 2011 action feature directed by Joe Wright and starring Saoirse Ronan as a girl assassin raised in the wilderness by her spy father Eric Bana, but the TV series based on the film is even better. Currently moving towards its third season, the Amazon Prime series has so much more room to delve into the nuances of the film’s premise, especially in its second season, which moves completely past the events of the movie. While the first season leans into the coming-of-age themes inherent in Hanna venturing out into the world for the very first time, the second season chooses to delve further into the spy drama of it all, expanding the series’ focus to center some of the other teen super soldiers born into the same program Hanna was rescued from as a baby. If you would have liked to learn more about the other Widows Natasha and Yelena are working to save in Black Widow, then Hanna is the show for you.
Atomic Blonde
Stylish and featuring some of the best fight scenes this side of John Wick (the film’s director David Leitch, also worked on John Wick), Atomic Blonde stars the incomparable Charlize Theron as a spy tasked with finding a lost of double agents that is being smuggled into the West on the eve of the Berlin Wall’s collapse. Like Black Widow, Atomic Blonde only has so much narrative time to delve into the complexities of this set up and setting and, maybe sensing it won’t be able to do them justice, instead leans into the aesthetic and action of this world. It works, thanks in no small part to performers like Theron, James McAvoy, and Sofia Boutella, who bring to life the stress, violence, and desperation of this intersection of place and time far better than its script.
Queen Sono
American and British spy dramas often have white westerners traveling to other, poorer nations for missions, depicting a real-life colonial power structure while rarely interrogating it. Queen Sono, billed as Netflix‘s first African original series (it is a South African series, specifically), is a spy drama that centers Black characters and community in fun and powerful ways, bringing the familiar tropes of the genre to what will probably be a new setting for most American viewers. Queen Sono follows South African spy Queen (Pearl Thusi) as she works to balance her dangerous and clandestine missions with her personal life. Funny, emotional, and action-packed, Queen Sono is a must-see for any spy drama lover looking for something new—and it’s a damn shame Netflix won’t be moving forward with a second season.
Alias
To me, Alias will always be the original. The female-led spy drama was on network television when I was a teenager, and its combination (especially in the first season and a half) of fierce fight sequences, tense spycraft, and character-driven drama made it my favorite show. Like Black Widow, Alias is grounded in family drama, most especially the father-daughter relationship between Sydney Bristow (Jennifer Garner) and spy dad Jack Bristow (Victor Garber), but later bringing in other familial dynamics as well. The series starts as your classic double agent story, as Sydney decides to take down the agency she works for after they have her fiance killed, but, in classic J.J. Abrams style, the plot really spirals out from there—for better and worse. Airing for five season and more than 105 episodes, if you’re looking for more family-driven spy drama, Alias is the show for you.
cnx.cmd.push(function() { cnx({ playerId: "106e33c0-3911-473c-b599-b1426db57530", }).render("0270c398a82f44f49c23c16122516796"); });
Deutschland 86
All three “seasons” of this excellent German-language Cold War spy series that follows an East German boy forced to become a spy in West Germany are worth watching, but the second installment, set in 1986, gives us viewers many more lady spy characters to be impressed by compared to the original Deutschland 83 story. Main character Jonas remains the protagonist of this tale, but his Aunt Lenora, probably the best spy in the entire show, takes an even bigger role in Deutschland 1986 and the subsequent Deutschland 89, as does her lover/partner Rose, a South African operative working for the African National Congress and played by the MCU’s Florence Kasumba. Throw in Jonas’ baby mama Annett, back in East Germany working as a junior intelligence agent, and the mysterious  Brigitte, and you have a second season teeming with complex and cutthroat women spies.
Nikita
This highly underrated spy series ran for four action-packed seasons on The CW before totally sticking its landing in 2013. Technically an adaptation of the 1997 La Femme Nikita TV series, which was in turn an adaptation of Luc Besson’s 1990 action film of the same name, Nikita quickly surpassed both originals to become one of the best female-led spy stories of all time. Starring Maggie Q as the titular Nikita, the series began after the former spy has vowed to take down the secret agency that trained her, known as the Division. Our story begins when Nikita plants her protege, Alex, within Division, with a plan to work together to take the agency down. Of course, going undercover comes with its own emotional and ethical complications, and Alex may not know all that there is to know about her mentor Nikita, and Nikita’s role in Alex’s tragic past. With a stellar supporting cast that includes Melinda Clarke and Xander Berkeley, Nikita was far better than it needed to be and, if your a fan of the action spy genre, is definitely worth watching.
Killing Eve
Maybe it was the Russian accent, but Yelena has mad Villanelle vibes in Black Widow, and I mean that in the least psychopathic way possible. Unless you live under a rock, you’re probably aware of this BBC America series starring Sandra Oh as a bored MI-5 agent and Jodie Comer as the spy-assassin she becomes obsessed with catching, but if you haven’t yet checked it out and are looking for another female-driven spy story with plenty of banter, then Killing Eve is the show for you. The second season gets a little rocky, but with a riveting season three and the announcement that season four will be the show’s last, now is the time to jump on the Killing Eve bandwagon.
Little Drummer Girl
In terms of tone or style, Little Drummer Girl shares little with Black Widow—it’s much more geopolitical thriller than superhero action—but I’m including the British spy series on the list because it does share a star with Black Widow. Yelena’s Florence Pugh plays an aspiring actress named Charlie who is recruited by Mossad to infiltrate a Palestinian group planning an attack in Europe. Based on a novel of the same name by acclaimed spy author John le Carré, the six-episode series is directed by Korean filmmaker Park Chan-wook and co-stars Michael Shannon and Alexander Skarsgård, and the talent is not wasted. The miniseries delves much more into the ethics of spycraft than Black Widow is able or comfortable doing, asking difficult questions about how violence and manipulation are used and justified across national lines. If you’re looking for a spy drama that isn’t afraid to ask the tough questions, then Little Drummer Girl is for you.
Gunpowder Milkshake
OK, this one is more of an assassin drama than a spy drama, but the cast is too good not to include it on the list. Starring Doctor Who‘s Karen Gillan and Game of Thrones‘ Lena Headey as a pair of daughter/mother assassins, Gunpowder Milkshake is another action thriller that is all in with the familial dynamics. Past the two stars, Gunpowder Milkshake also features the iconic Michelle Yeoh, Angela Bassett, and Carla Gugino, rounding out the cast of action women. The film doesn’t drop on Netflix (in the U.S.) and theaters (elsewhere) until Friday, but you’ll be ready.

saffire’s lagoon, known affectionately and almost exclusively by locals in the area as saffy’s, is a beach-themed dive bar a few miles from ucf’s campus. opened in 2010 by a ucf grad who never quite got over his senior spring break trip to cancun, it’s known for its cheap drinks and lax security, making it a favorite among college kids and young adults. saffy’s features over ten bars inside and outside, a shot wheel, and a large man-made “beach” - an outdoor area covered in sand with a few “lagoons” throughout, where you’ll find mermaids pouring shots thursday through saturday. no one would ever describe saffy’s as quiet or clean and the service most nights is questionable at best, but it’s developed an almost cult-like following in the years it’s been open. people love saffy’s for what it is - a place to see classmates (or old classmates), drink $2 beer, and make questionable decisions without judgment.
hm? is this based on my two favorite bars bc i don’t know if i’ll get to go this summer? mayhaps!! but in any case, i’m looking for a group of co-dependent co-workers who contribute to the charm and the chaos that is saffy’s.
JACK / owner (first last, 32+, played by name) — founded saffire’s lagoon sometime after his college graduation in 2010 - whether it was a quarter-life crisis or a lifelong dream, the story changes depending on who asks. big time peter pan complex, could stand to do some growing up, just might for LAURA if she would ever give him the time of day. may or may not be the reason that the whole “never trust a man whose name starts with j” trend started going around, but he takes excellent care of the people he employs. despite his carefree attitude, saffy’s is his baby, he put blood, sweat, and tears into making it what it is, and he continues to work hard to ensure it’s success.
LAURA / front bar (first last, 30+, reserved for del) — has been working at saffy’s for as long as it’s been open and is almost as integral to its success as JACK is. the two of them are as close as one would expect after working together for ten years, although LAURA refuses to acknowledge that time they slept together after the infamous Holiday Party of 2015. she’s got the patience of a saint, usually the one left to train the new employees and ultimately decide who makes it working here or not. a tough love kinda gal, but always willing to lend a helping hand for the greater good. good at her job, dammit, just don’t try to pry into her personal life.
CALEB / beach bar (first last, 25+, played by name) — CALEB is LAURA’S younger brother (or cousin or bff, utp!!), something the rest of the staff figured out quick because his behavior would never have flown otherwise. like, LAURA once caught him and RILEY doing coke in the bathroom during one of their breaks but let it go. also sometimes drinks on the job when he feels like it. lazy, but well-meaning, no one can find it in their heart to stay mad at CALEB for too long, even when they have to pick up his slack. prefers to spend his shifts flirting with JACK, too preoccupied looking around to see where he’s at on any given night to notice that ANGEL has been trying to get his attention.
ANGEL / beach bar (first last, 22+, reserved for jenn) — despite being hired around the same time as RILEY, MARA, OLIVER, and KYLE, no one knows much of anything about angel. but it’s not for lack of trying. it’s gotten to the point where the co-workers make up stories about her background and place bets on who can get closest to the truth, if ANGEL is willing to confirm anything in the first place. it’s not that she don’t want to share anything about herself, she’s just quiet, and it’s become kind of fun being the mysterious one in the bar. unbeknownst to the rest of the group, and without even realizing it himself, CALEB knows ANGEL better than anyone else.
RILEY / shot wheel + mermaid (riley emerson, 22, sydney sweeney, played by alex) — applied to work at saffy’s because her boyfriend at the time, KYLE, got an interview. they broke up (for the first time) shortly after, but she decided not to quit bc she really liked the attention of bartending. they’ve been off and on for the majority of their time at saffy’s, though in the last year or so, they broke up for good. RILEY is easygoing and friendly, usually the one found playing therapist to drunk girls at her bar. sometimes acts without thinking which has gotten her into more than a few sticky situations. trying to be more responsible now that she’s a college grad, which finds her turning down all of OLIVER’S advances.
MARA / beach bar + mermaid (holly mack, 24, kristine froseth, played by maddie) — MARA’S got a rep for being kinda mean to customers, but she’s so pretty that no one has ever complained. lives with the RILEY, but whether they hate or love each other just depends on the day. they had a 3-way with KYLE after the aforementioned Holiday Party of 2015, which continues to be the butt of many jokes among the staff. went on a date with KYLE shortly after that, but felt guilty bc of his relationship with RILEY so she made him swear to keep it a secret and she keeps him at an arm’s length to this day.
OLIVER / bouncer (first last, 22+, reserved for bribri) — something of a celebrity in the bar - there was once an entire instagram account dedicated to “saffy’s hot bouncer”. the attention mostly goes over his head, but JACK is happy to have him outside the front door most nights to bring business in. OLIVER’S a good guy, level-headed and patient enough to break up fights and turn away drunk people without anything ever escalating. he’s had a crush on RILEY since they all started working together four years ago, but kept his distance out of respect for KYLE. now that they’ve finally broken up, the two of them have been getting a lot closer, but he can’t tell how she actually feels about it.
KYLE / shot wheel (first last, 22+ reserved for derek) —KYLE is the resident himbo. pretty harmless because he’s so dumb, although like RILEY, he trends towards impulsiveness more often than not. KYLE’S the one behind some of the more chaotic practices and themes at saffy’s (i.e.: hawaiian shirt night). only got put at the shot wheel because they needed someone tall enough and strong enough to be able to spin it. he’s been trying to get moved to the beach bar so that he can spend more time with MARA because he knows that he can charm her if he can just get the chance.
ok so! this is just a list of co-workers that riley is closest with, but i am completely open to other staff members as well! they can be intermingled with the core group i have listed if you have ideas, or they can just be begrudging witnesses as they try to go about their job. i’m also open to other positions besides bartenders/bouncers, like bar backs and cooks, or the more administrative side of things, like marketing managers or operations. just let me know if you’re looking for a job for your character and what you have in mind, i’d be more than happy to squeeze as many people in as possible! reply here or add me on discord (alex???#0019) and i’d be happy to chat. thx for reading :)
first last, ##, owner, played by name
riley emerson, 22, bartender, played by alex
holly mack, 24, bartender, played by maddie

10 LGBTQ Performers in the 1970's
The Stonewall riots were a series of spontaneous, violent demonstrations by members of the gay (LGBT) community against a police raid that began in the early morning hours of June 28, 1969, at the Stonewall Inn in the Greenwich Village neighborhood of New York City. They are widely considered to constitute the most important event leading to the gay liberation movement and the modern fight for LGBT rights in the United States. Wikipedia
What followed in the 1970’s was a rising tide of LGBTQ performers that “came out” to express their unique take on music, theater and sexual (transgender) identity. Here are 10 of those performers and a brief look at what they contributed to the movement and to our culture. Click on the image to learn more about the performer.
Tumblr media
JAYNE COUNTY
As rock’s first openly transgender singer, Jayne Rogers (born June 13, 1947), better known by her stage name Jayne County, is an American singer, songwriter, actress and record producer whose career spans five decades. While dressed in female attire from the beginning of her career, County transitioned to female in 1979, becoming Jayne (as the above poster illustrates).
She made her first performing appearances as Wayne County in Wayne County and The Electric Chairs. In 1969 she appeared in Jackie Curtis’ play Femme Fatale. County considered Curtis a major influence on her career and persona and County is widely considered an influence on David Bowie –– County’s Queenage Baby number was the prototype for Bowie’s Rebel Rebel. Even more notable was her play, World – Birth of A Nation, which was set in a hospital and dealt with male castration –– evoking both transgender surgery and her mixed feelings about men, both gay and straight.
After seeing the play, Andy Warhol cast her in his play Pork. She went on to appear in the film The Blank Generation (1976).  Back and forth between New York and London, she settled in Atlanta Georgia. In 2018, County debuted a retrospective show of visual art in the New York City gallery, Participant, Inc.
County’s life and art is considered an inspirational influence on John Cameron Mitchell’s transgender rock musical Hedwig and the Angry Inch.
JACKIE CURTIS
“Jackie Curtis is not a drag queen. Jackie is an artist. A pioneer without a frontier,” so said Andy Warhol. Andy was right. Jackie Cutis (1947-1987) was a true original. Long before he became one of the Pop master’s superstars. Curtis distinguished himself by appearing (alternately) as a James Dean-like male and a Jean Harlow-like female in Off-off Broadway plays of his own devise in which he and his friends appeared:
Glamour, Glory And Gold, co-starred Candy Darling, and Robert DeNiroin his first New York stage appearance;
Vain Victory, also starred Darling with Warhol and Jack Smith star Mario Montez;
Amerika Cleopatra featured a thin barely-known Harvey Fierstein;
Femme Fatale, starred Patti Smith, Jayne County and Penny Arcade; and
Heaven Grand In Amber Orbit toplined Holly Woodlawn. These were all makeshift, wildly tossed together affairs having little to do with plot and character but tons to do with exhibitionistic self-expression.
Outside of such Warhol films as Flesh (1968) and Women in Revolt (1972), Jackie’s most notable screen appearance was in Yugoslavia agant-gardist Dusan Makvejev’s W.R.: Mysteries of the Organism – a film about sex researcher Willhelm Reich, creator of the so-called Orgone Box. Makvejev felt Jackie presence in the film added a lot to his view of Reich’s sexual theories.
DIVINE
Born Harris Glenn Milsted in 1945, this life-affirming, overweight transvestite was re-named Divine (after the hero/heroine of Jean Genet’s Our Lady of the Flowers ) by the writer-director John Waters, who discovered her right down the block from where he lived. Through his films Waters turned a lonely overweight kid from Baltimore into one of the biggest (in every sense of the word) of all underground movie stars.
In Waters’ comedies, Pink Flamingoes, Female Trouble, Polyester and Hairspray, Divine redefined what it means to be a movie star. Waters called him The Most Beautiful Woman in The World and if you’ve seen Divine on stage of screen you’ll know why; for like his idol, Elizabeth Taylor, Divine was overwhelmingly sui generis.
While beloved for his films, Divine was a prolific LGBTQ performer on stage and in nightclubs. This above poster memorializes one of them . In this particular show — Vice— Divine appeared with many of the members of the legendary San Francisco drag troupe, The Cockettes.
Sadly, Divine (now a gay, transgender icon) died in 1988 of respiratory problems, days after the opening of his greatest acting success, Hairspray. Those lucky enough to see his club appearances also recall Divine for numbers like this —
CASSELBERRY & DUPREE
Mixing Reggae, Country and Gospel, Casselberry and Dupree are a dynamic lesbian duo who have performed with Harry Belafonte and Whoppi Goldberg, They appeared in the Oscar-nominated Art Is and the Oscar-winning The Times of Harvey Milk. The early 70s was a great time for Sapphic folk music, featured as it was at such venues as Lilith Fair. Jaqué Dupree and J. Casselberry offer a stellar example of it in: CASSELBERRYY AND DUPREE “TWO OF US”
CHARLES PIERCE
Charles Piece 1926-1999 was what might be called a female impersonator (he called himself a Male Actress) who found favor with audiences both straight and gay with his knowing impressions of Bette Davis, Mae West, Tallulah Bankhead and Carol Channing, Such impersonations were quite  traditional for a comic performer of this sort. But as can be seen and heard in this clip of his rendition of Katherine Hepburn, Pierce kept pace with the blossoming LGBTQ movement with many of his zingers evidencing a keen awareness of the difference the out and proud LGBTQ movement had made in  a straight-dominated world.
Headlining a production of Applause was a real tour de force for Piece as this musical version of All About Eve gave him leave to do Bette Davis (star of the original film) and Lauren Bacall (star of the musical remake) at the same time.
JUDITH ANDERSON
Stage and screen star Judith Anderson (1897-1992.) best remembered by the general public for playing the sinister lesbian “Mrs. Danvers” in Hithcock’s Rebecca (1940) and “Ann Treadwell” the socialite who’s keeping Vincent Price’s “Shelby Carpenter” in Laura  The latter was quite low-key in that the character was straight, whereas “Mrs. Danvers” was a full-force lesbian.
Despite the obvious she was married twice. Her first husband was an English professor, Benjamin Harrison Lehmann. They were married in 1937 and divorced  in 1939. Then, in 1946, she married theatrical  producer Luther Greene. They divorced in 1951. Of these marriages Anderson said. “Neither experience was a jolly holiday.”
While Sarah Bernhardt had famously performed  Hamlet in the late 19th century, few actresses have ever tried it. Taking it on at an advanced age, as Anderson did, was quite novel. Doing it when she did, put Anderson in league with the avant-garde gender-benders of the early 70s like Jackie Curtis and Holly Woodlawn.
CRAIG RUSSELL
Craig Russell, born Russell Crag Easie in 1948 in Toronto Canada, this female impersonator carved out a considerable career for himself doing such stars as Bette Davis, Tallulah Bankhead and Mae West — having come to know the last-mentioned personally as he briefly worked as her secretary in Los Angeles. Many LGBTQ performers of this genre did impressions of these stars. But there was an edginess to Russell’s work clearly influenced by the rise of the gay rights movement.
He toured widely, appearing in Las Vegas, Hollywood, San Francisco, Berlin, London, Paris, Amsterdam, Hamburg and Sydney, to the delight of a variety of audiences. But he won a special place in the hearts of the gay ones, as shown in the 1977 comedy-drama Outrageous in which he plays a character largely based on himself.
Interestingly, Russell — who always identified himself as gay — was bisexual. He fathered a daughter, Susan Allison, in 1973, and in 1982 married his closest female friend Lori Jenkins. The marriage lasted right through to the end of Russell’s life in 1990 when he died from AIDS complications.
SYLVESTER
Sylvester James Jr. (1947-1988) was born in Los Angeles, but first came to public attention when he moved to San Francisco and joined the legendary gay hippie performance troupe The Cockettes. A genuinely original singing talent  Sylvester showcased a high, shimmering falsetto and a variety of styles encompassing gospel, disco and cabaret. His look was utterly androgynous. While he sometimes appeared in “drag” he most often sported ensembles suitable to both genders.
Wildly popular in San Francisco he performed solo shows at the city’s opera house. When he died from AIDS complications the entire city mourned, along with everyone else who came to know the man and his music.
STEVEN GROSSMAN
Steve Grossman (1951-1991) a gay singer-songwriter of the early 1970s whose album Caravan Tonight (1974) is distinguished as being the first album dealing with openly gay subject matter released by a major record label, Mercury Records.
He died from AIDS leaving his Joni Mitchell-inflected songs, recorded much in the style of singer-songwriter Cat Stevens, opposed to the then-current glam Bowiesque fashion of openly gay artists. Among them, “Out” is a deeply moving coming-out song directed to his Father mother and brother.

CHARLOTTE DAVENPORT is 28 YEARS OLD, resides in GRANDVIEW and has lived in Lakeham for 18 YEARS. She is FEMALE and works as a FREELANCE WRITER. She is portrayed by MARGOT ROBBIE  and is played by NATASHA.
Trigger Warnings: Death, drugs, depression.
The son of one of the most influential families in a wealthy Connecticut town falling in love with the daughter of a British lord was almost too perfect of a match. Jeff Davenport and Caroline Dormer met at Columbia University while they were pursuing master’s degrees; Jeff’s future working in his family’s company was decided for him while Caroline, who had no real desire to return to England to live as a noblewoman, had dreams of becoming a professor. Once the pair graduated and were engaged, there was no question that they were going to live in Jeff’s affluent hometown of Lakeham while he worked his way to being the CEO of his family’s Bridgeport-based cybersecurity company. Caroline taught mathematics at Lakeham University for some time, leaving the workforce entirely when she gave birth to their son Henry. Two girls followed in the subsequent years, Charlotte and Olivia. The Davenports had always wanted many children, not because they loved the idea of parenthood, but because they had a legacy to secure through them. They reminded themselves that a marriage like theirs, although based in love, was far too powerful to waste in any way but creating their own dynasty, a subset of the one that Jeff’s ancestors had begun when they settled in Lakeham.
Henry was the pride and joy of their family, the one who would eventually take over the family business, and the youngest daughter Olivia was the baby of the family who was constantly adored by both her parents and siblings. Charlotte was just that, Charlotte. She was seen as being beautiful and bookish, but no one else knew how to describe the black sheep of the Davenport family. Although she suffered from middle child syndrome and felt as though she was living in the shadows of her siblings, it would have been a lie to say that Charlotte was not loved by them. Jeff and Caroline tried their best to be the ever-loving parents, but they both had other priorities that took precedence over being there for their offspring. But if there was one thing that they had ensured to teach them, it was that their image and reputation were everything - only enhanced by associating with people of the same caliber as them. Valley Prep School was an easy time for Charlotte, with friends that her parents had deemed appropriate including her in their social circle. Insecurity plagued her brain as a teenager, knowing that had she not had the Davenport name backing her, she would not be friends with the people whom she called as such. Not that it mattered, as the young girl internalized that to be among them was a privilege that she should never question and should instead show gratitude for. So many teenage girls would give anything to be in her position, and she would be a fool to not acknowledge that. Henry played the role perfectly, and it would be an utter shame if she could not hold a torch to his performance.
Instead of following in the footsteps of her parents and older brother in attending Columbia when the time came, Charlotte flew across the pond to attend University College London in her mother’s homeland. Pursuing a degree in Comparative Literature with a concentration in French, Charlotte had no idea what she wanted to do with her life - just that there was more to it than the cushy confines of her family’s manor back in Lakeham. With Henry set to take over the family business, the middle Davenport child was free to make whatever life choices she wanted - within reason, of course. Caroline’s family was ever present in London, and welcomed their American relative with arms wide open. Her cousins invited her to social gatherings among London’s upper class, and for someone who had such distaste for her New England aristocratic upbringing, Charlotte ironically adored the British high society lifestyle and even thrived as an honorary socialite for some time. London had become her second home and she vowed that she would be back once she had seen enough of the rest of the world. As much as Henry and Olivia begged her to come back, Charlotte had no intentions of returning to Lakeham. In her eyes, she would have been returning to exactly what she wanted to escape: a stagnant and elitist society, where she would never be seen as anything but Jeff Davenport’s beautiful and introverted daughter. Although her older brother Henry especially kept bringing up the topic, Charlotte reassured him of her affection for him but also her reluctance to return to the life she once knew and did not enjoy, not when there was a chance to create a future independent of her family name, the future that she chose for herself.
Getting certified to teach English as a Second Language was not difficult, and getting a placement to teach in France at first was simple as well given her knowledge of the language. Being based in a small town in southern France teaching teenagers for two years, Charlotte embraced the culture and immersed herself in the French language before deciding that she wanted to move on to her next destination. The next four years were spent as an expat, from teaching English in South Korea to doing humanitarian work in Costa Rica to spending time on a working holiday visa in Australia. While she worked, Charlotte did some freelance writing jobs over the years, writing pieces mostly for lifestyle publications and even started her own blog. Her brother’s continuous pleas for her to return home fell on deaf ears, as the blonde ignored them and continued to embrace the life that she was meant to live. Her living conditions were not luxurious by any means, but she was truly happy with her life and the spontaneity of not knowing what country or project it would lead her to next.
It was in Australia that she crossed paths with a British expat who was also working there, and for the first time in her life, Charlotte was falling in love with a person instead of a place. Like her, David was also from an affluent family but wanted to forge his own path in the world, which led him to Sydney and right into Charlotte’s life. What started off as just them having fun turned into a serious courtship, with the pair becoming engaged just a little over a year into dating with plans to go to London for the time being, where they would marry in the presence of their friends and families before embarking on their next journey together. Once again, Henry’s desperate pleas for his sister to return home were met with an exasperated sigh, with Charlotte not knowing why a thirty-year-old man was so insistent on his sister being in the same place as him. Could he have not respected her newfound independence and desire to be on her own, regardless of how she felt about him? Their last conversation would haunt the young woman forever, as it was a week later that she received the call that no one had wanted to: Henry had died of a drug overdose in a Bridgeport hotel room. Charlotte’s world crumbled with that news, how long had he been using? Were his pleas for her to come home also a cry for help? Had she really been that selfish to ignore her older brother’s issues and focused on her own goals too much to see that she was needed by one of the people she cared about the most?
Charlotte and David were only supposed to have been in Lakeham for two weeks to attend Henry’s funeral and offer support to her family. It was the first time that the blonde had stepped foot on American soil since she was eighteen years old, and she was a changed woman since then, given her experiences and growth over the prior decade. The night before their transatlantic flight back to London Heathrow, Charlotte told her fiancé that she needed some more time in Lakeham and that he should go back to London and she’d join him soon. She was lucky to have such an understanding and patient man by her side, who was more than willing to give her the time she needed. The couple parted ways for the time being while David headed home, wanting to give Charlotte some the opportunity to collect herself and be at peace with her family - if only she knew how to do that.
❝ I'M OUT WITH LANTERNS, LOOKING FOR MYSELF.❞
It has been one year since Henry’s death, and almost a year since Charlotte has been back in Connecticut. She is still in a strained long distance relationship with her fiancé, who has grown frustrated with her reluctance to return to London or even set a wedding date, always telling him that she is “ not ready”. Quite a jump from the months prior to losing her brother, when she knew that she was ready to settle down with David and fairly sure of herself. She has since moved back into the Davenport manor in Grandview, although it had become a shell of the home that it once was. Her parents were devastated after having lost their only son, and Olivia… Charlotte did not even know where to start with her younger sister. She has been trying to read the youngest Davenport’s true emotions regarding their family and would like to rekindle their relationship, but also knowing what it feels like to need space she did not want to stifle her.
Charlotte’s career has been paused, but she has been keeping somewhat busy with continuing her freelance career while falling back on her financial stability, credited to her own savings and her family’s money that she was given. Being a jack of all trades but a master of none, she has yet to choose something to focus mostly one from her extensive resume of teaching, volunteering, and writing. She is contracted to write various pieces for publications and websites, sometimes thinking of starting an actual career but not knowing exactly where to begin.
Anyone who knows Charlotte is waiting to see which country she flies off to next, or what her next job would be. Surely she would not be staying in Lakeham, as she has enjoyed her time away from it far too much and had a life waiting to begin in England. She is definitely not a contender to take over the Davenport business, and the only person she would have stayed behind for is deceased. But Charlotte cannot bring herself to leave Lakeham yet again, as the sadness and guilt have consumed her and made her unsure even of what her purpose in life is. Death changes people, and she had been unprepared for it. She only hopes that she can keep her head above water long enough to find a life jacket, unsure as to how to ask for the help that she so desperately needs.
Charlotte has been running a travel and lifestyle blog for the past five years, documenting her various stints in different countries and the lives she leads in each one, seeing no two as being the same. But her online life has been on a hiatus since she returned to Connecticut, with only throwback photos being posted. She is not ready to come out to her followers about the pain that she is enduring currently. Her blog is her happy place, why should she ruin it? That being said, she hates the term “influencer” despite having a significant social media following due to her blog.
Ever since she left home for university, Charlotte has always wanted a pet but has never had the time to actually take care of one, with being so busy and moving from country to country. She is definitely more of a cat person than a dog person, and plans on adopting one soon now that she’s settled for the time being.
Charlotte loves being by bodies of water, and she can often be found on the beach or by Lake Marin relaxing peacefully. However, she is not much of a swimmer.
(+) Intelligent, compassionate, open-minded. (-) Guarded, self-righteous, hypocritical.

Her Reasons | J.A.
Y/N got distant to Jack and he doesn't know why.
warning(s): angst, swearing
word count: 2102
a/n: requested by anon. yes, jack avery yayy :) i was thinking about blurbs, just send them. enjoy!
"Home sweet home!" Corbyn announced as the van stopped in front of the apartment complex where all of the Why Don't We boys' families live. Everybody woke up from their sleep, they got jet lag after that ten hour flight from Europe to USA.
They went to the elevator all the way up, the five boys bid goodbyes as they depart from each other heading to their respected apartments. Jack was the last one to reach his apartment, he used his spare key to get in.
"WELCOME HOME JACK!!!" he was surprised seeing his family setted up a surprise for him. He's genuinely happy to see his family after almost two months of not seeing them. They were his gems.
"I missed you, baby." his mom hugged him as he set his luggage down.
"Missed you too, mom." he replied, not long when he felt someone hugging his torso. He smiled picking Isla up.
"I miss you so much, Jack." she wrapped her arms around his brother and hugged him. Jack also gave his sisters and his dad hugs as well.
The Averys and Stanfords had lunch in the table complete, it was nice to finally had lunch together, with Jack in it. This rarely happen since Jack has been very busy with his career.
"Why is Y/N not around?" Jack spilled, he had been thinking about this since he got home. He was curious as to why Y/N, his girlfriend, not involved in this surprise.
"She's busy, I guess." Ava shrugged, among the siblings, she's more close to her.
"Yeah, I remember her telling me how she has been busy with school lately." Sydney butted in.
"But she took online classes," Jack furrowed his brows as he takes another bite from his meat.
It was getting suspicious. Jack didn't believe with her excuse, he isn't dumb that she's just making up excuses. Though, this isn't the first Y/N got very suspicious. The other day, while the Why Don't We boys went strolling around London, Jack couldn't stop himself from calling his girlfriend. So he did.
To his suprise, Y/N ignored his calls. He even sent her a voicemail, but he only got one text from her. Saying, she was very busy and doesn't have time to talk. She then added that Jack should take care of himself and whatnot.
As much as Jack wanted to sleep in his comfy bed after having a jet lag, he drives off on the way to Y/N's house just to see her. He missed her so much that he'll do anything just to see her.
Not long when Jack arrived at Y/N's, walking to her doorsteps and knocked. Jack felt nervous, he didn't know why, maybe because it has been a couple of months since the last time he visited. Maybe because he haven't seen his girlfriend for almost two months or maybe he was nervous because something was up?
Jack ringed the doorbell once again, then finally he heard the sound of the door opening. He then saw Y/N's younger sister, Elora.
"Hi Jack!" the twelve year old girl greeted excitedly and gave her sister's boyfriend a hug. Jack has always been good with kids.
"Nice to see you, El."
"You too." they pulled away from each other.
"Is Y/N's home?" Jack asked. Elora smiled and nodded, she opened the door widely so Jack can come in.
"She's upstairs, I'm sure she'll be surprised to see you!" she giggled as she ran to the living room, leaving Jack alone in the hallway of her girlfriend's house.
I hope she will, Jack thought.
As the boy reaches the second floor of Y/N's house, Jack couldn't imagine the last time he was here. It looked like way too different. It felt different.
Jack knocked at the cream colored door of Y/N which also has a sticker that says 'Keep Out!' in capital letters. He smiled as he smiled reminiscing in the memory he got with Y/N with that sticker.
Jack and Y/N went to Target that time, she then found that sticker and she was so obsessed with it that she had to get it. They sticked that sticker together. It was just a little thing they did, but it means a lot to him.
"Baby?" Jack called out as he opened the door seeing his girlfriend playing her ukulele. He couldn't even recognize the song she was playing, all that matters that he finally saw her. He missed her so much.
Y/N noticed someone at the door, she looked up to see who it was. It was his boyfriend, Jack.
Jack saw Y/N surprised with what she saw. She was suprised, Elora was right. Jack thought.
"J-Jack..." Y/N stuttered as she stood up and walked towards Jack, as she got closer to him he hugged him tight. "You should be at home right now, getting rest."
He pulled away, way too surprised with his words. "Wait, you knew I'm home?"
Y/N pursed her lips and nodded. Jack was surprised that she knew, what suprised him more is that she didn't even bother to call him or see him.
"Why didn't you call me or something?" the boy furrowed his brows, he thought it was pathetic of her to not call to hang-out. Jack just couldn't believe her.
"Jack, you're tired and you need to res-"
"No, no, no." he cutted her off, "Why are you being like this? I'm like here, right now, with you. I went here to see you even though I just got home from whatever country I was in and you're pushing me away. Do you have any idea how stress I am right now?"
Y/N couldn't construct a sentence for him to justify what she just said. She looked down, "Yeah, you're right. Jack, I have no idea how stress you are and I'm sorry." she paused, "Can we just talk this out tomorrow? Get some rest."
Jack was carried away with his emotions, he was tired. Yeah, it was true. Though, he didn't realized how it hurted Y/N's feelings. I fucked up, Jack thought.
"Babe, I'm sorry. I didn't me-"
"It's okay, Jack. I understand." Y/N cutted him off, "Really. You need rest."
Jack knew with Y/N's mood right now, he won't be able to talk to her properly and the fact that she only called him 'Jack' and not like their nicknames for each other, he knew something was up.
"We're going to talk tomorrow, right?" the boy asked and she nodded. "Okay, I'll see tomorrow, then." Jack waited for her to reply but she didn't, he then decided to leave.
As he was on the way home, many things were running inside his head. Why is she being like this? Was she mad? Why is she so distant? What did I do? Is she falling out of love?
Questions were hunting Jack, he couldn't answer those, only Y/N can answer it.
Even in his sleep, it felt like nightmare. He barely sleep that night. He couldn't stop thinking about Y/N.
* * * *
Jack met up with the Why Don't We boys first before his brunch with Y/N. They were all gathered at Corbyn's apartment where they can play Fortnite. It was odd to see Jack not play Fortnite, because he was always up for it, but this time, he wasn't.
"Boyband meeting, how nice." Corbyn's younger sister, Ashley, spoke as she saw the boys in the living room.
"We are a man band." Jonah corrected as he sips from his coffee.
"Whatever, I'm leaving." she replied as she leaves.
"Woah, she's feisty." Zach grinned as he played Fortnite with Corbyn.
"Don't even think about it, Herron. She's my little sister." Corbyn spat as his eyes still on the game, and the boys laughed. Except for Jack.
"Someone woke up at the wrong side," Daniel joked as he flips his phone which earned chuckles from the boys.
"Hey, what's wrong bro? Hair problem?" Jonah asked sarcastically.
"Fuck you, Jonah." Jack glared which made the boys furrow their brows.
"Woah, it's very early to hear curses inside Besson's household. Care to explain why your mood is poor?" Corbyn spoke which made Jack sigh heavily.
"It's Y/N."
"What happened?" Daniel asked with concern, all of them were concern to their noodlehead friend that they have to stop whatever they're doing so they could listen.
"She's so distant lately, she barely text or call. Yesterday, I went to see her and she told me that I should be home, getting rest." Jack explained, "It felt like she's getting rid of me. I told her shitty things yesterday, I was such an asshole." his vision was getting blurry and his voice broke. "It feels like she doesn't love me anymore."
The boys went up to him and gave him a hug, Jack was crying. It was rare for Jack to cry for girls, he was usually a crybaby when it comes to his mom and sisters.
"Bro, I'm sure she has her reasons." Jonah said which made Jack looked up at him, "What I meant is that she has her reasons why she was so distant lately.".
"Just talk this out with her." Daniel smiled and they hugged once more.
"It'll be okay, dude." Corbyn said.
"Hey, Zach. Any words of encouragement?" Jonah asked Zach.
Zach paused for a bit, "Go Jack!" he cheered while he raised both of his arms and all the boys laughed.
* * * *
After their food arrived, Jack finally spoke. "I'm sorry about yesterday."
Y/N smiled, "It's okay, that was a bitchy move when I said it. I didn't mean it like that."
"Hey, don't say that. I was such an asshole." he stated which made Y/N chuckle.
"I guess, we're even." she shrugged as they eat, "Jack... I have reasons why I was being like this, you know."
She has her reasons, Jack thought.
He didn't reply as a sign that Y/N should continue, "You've been travelling a lot and I understand how hard it is for you to balance your time with work, family and me, it's not easy to deal with it." she started, "I don't want to be that kind of girlfriend who asks for attention 24/7 because I know you couldn't, you are way too busy for that. But I mean, even a little time from you won't hurt, right? My role as your girlfriend is to support you all the way as long as you're happy."
"I'm sorry, Y/N. I really am." Jack spoke genuinely.
"Hey, don't be sorry." she hissed, "What makes you happy, makes me happy. You reaching your dreams makes me happy and I won't take that away from you. Jack, you have no idea how proud I am."
Jack furrowed his brows, "Wait, are you breaking up with me?"
"What the fuck? Of course not." she chuckled.
"Then why are you saying this?"
"I just wanted to tell you how proud I am. I was being distant lately, because I understand how stress and how tired you are from your work and I wanted to give you space. When you were on tour, I realized how burden I was to you. I just didn't want you to be obligated of me."
"Y/N, don't say that. Please don't, you are not a burden."
"These couple of days off from tour should be your rest time, you know. Your health matters to me and I'm not going to be selfish with the rest you deserve." she explained, "And if you're thinking that I don't love you anymore, stop that. I love you so much, you mean a lot to me. I'm just being understanding with what you are going through right now."
Jack gestured Y/N for a hug, she went to his side of the booth and hugged him. "You're making me cry. I love you."
"I love you too, baby. I rarely see you cry, I'm glad it worked." she laughed as she hugged her boyfriend.
It was just a little thing Y/N did for Jack after all the love that Jack gave to her. He deserves to be loved. He deserves to be supported after all the hardwork he did to succeed.

Part One ~ Part Two ~ Part Three ~ Part Four ~ Part Five
Word Count: 2.7k
___________________________________________
“Y/n come on you’ve been in the house all day!” Stephanie shouted as she gripped your wrists trying to get you to follow her outside.
It’s been a week since you and Auston had made it “official” agreeing to give him a chance. Things had been going great and you’ve been spending a lot of time together. Although, you’ve been friends for years, you began learning more about each other. You were both sharing a deeper, more domestic side of yourselves.
You felt bad however, because you definitely started hanging around him more often, and the girls took notice. They weren’t offended or upset, they understood, but they definitely wanted some time with you before you all left to go home.
“It’s supposed to rain any minute I don’t feel like getting wet!” You argued in between giggles. Stephanie, Sydney and Lexi were trying to get you to lay out on the dock with them. Since the clouds were mostly covering the sky, it made it much cooler that way you could enjoy the sounds of the waves. However, a storm was ready to hit any moment.
“Stop being a baby the dock is literally a three minute walk!” Sydney returned coming up from behind you to push your back towards Steph. Finally, you gave in, figuring a little rain would hurt anyway.
“Fine!” You sighed easing your strength from Steph’s pull. You left your phone and your watch on the kitchen table that way they wouldn’t get ruined in the rain before following the three girls out onto the beach.
The sun was completely covered and there was a strong breeze that whipped across the beach. The forecast didn’t call for rain for another two hours, but you could feel the humidity outside rising fast, making you believe it was coming within the next twenty minutes.
You tried to ignore it as the four of you finally arrived at the dock, the echo from the wood mimicking the sounds of your feet as you walked down. It was a private beach so the only people that went on it were the ones that lived here but due to the weather, everyone had stayed inside.
You made it down to the end and you all sat with your feet dangling off the edge. The waves were slightly more rough than usual, thanks to the wind, but it made for a very calming sound. The water crashed against the poles of the dock spraying the bottom of your legs with the room temperature ocean. At first you didn’t want to come all of the way out here especially with the rain, but now you realized how soothing it was. Between the breeze, sound and water, it felt peaceful.
Within the last couple of days, you’ve worried about returning to Toronto. Sure, this week that you’ve spent with Auston has been amazing, but you knew things would change once returning to the city. You’d have to return to your work and he with his practices, and soon enough, games would start up again. Yeah it was easy being friends during his past seasons, but you also didn’t crave to see him as much.
The thought wondered in the back of your mind constantly. It was one of those things you would worry about until you get in the moment and see how it actually is. But for now, the ocean was enough of a distraction to keep those thoughts at bay.
“Y/n?” Sydney questioned tapping the side of your arm with her elbow. You turned to look at her and noticed all three girls were giving you a confused stare.
“What?” You asked, clearly missing something.
“What has you spacing out like that? We’ve been talking to you for the past two minutes.” Lexi jumped in. Obviously while focusing on the waves and Toronto you were too concentrated to hear anything else.
“Oh nothing. I was just listening to the waves.” You said looking back at the white caps below the dock.
“Why are you lying? Is it Auston? I swear if he hurts you I’ll personally get Matt to kick his ass.” Sydney added. Her comment made you laugh as you shook your head.
“He didn’t do anything Syd, it’s nothing I promise.” You said in between giggles, laying down onto the dock behind you. You watched the clouds move swiftly above you trying to make shapes out of them.
“Well just know as soon as he does, I’m flying back to Toronto, and I’m bringing Matt with me.” Sydney continued laughing on her own. Sydney was your closest friend out of all the girls. She acted like a big sister to you. When you found out she was moving back to New York it definitely hurt you a little, but you knew she was ready to go back home so, you were happy for her.
As you were laying down you felt a drop of water land on your cheek. You decided to ignore it until another one hit, and then another. Eventually they started falling by twos, then threes, and that’s when you knew the rain was coming and coming fast. You sat back up and turned to the girls who were occupied in their own conversations. You then noticed a wall of rain coming fast from over the ocean.
“Do you guys think we should head back?” You questioned looking at the rain wall with wide eyes. It was pouring only a near mile in the distance and if you left now, by the time you got back to the house it would be here.
“Oh, come on it’s just a little rain.” Stephanie said nonchalantly. You almost wondered if she had seen the rain or not but there was no way she didn’t. Moments later a loud crash of thunder echoed across the water and waves of the ocean that made all four of you jump.
“On second thought, Mitch is probably looking for me, let’s go back.” Stephanie quickly said standing up on the dock. You laughed at the fact nature worked in your favor before getting up yourself and following the girls off the dock. By the time your feet stepped off the wood and onto the sand, the pouring rain had reached you guys, beginning to soak your bodies.
You all started laughing and running towards the house seeing who could get there the fastest. You weren’t scared of the lightning or thunder as it was still far out over the water, so this was more of a fun time to let loose. The cold rain cooled you off of the humidity as you guys started singing and giggling along while retreating back to the house.
~ Auston’s POV ~
“Y/n?” I called as I walked through the silent house. Most of the boys were still sleeping in as they usually do on their days off. Sleep in until 2pm and stay up until 2am. I normally wake up around noon and hand out until everyone else awakens. However, usually the girls are up by 10am talking in the kitchen. But this morning it was quiet.
I walked upstairs to her bedroom and the door was open with the room was vacant. I headed back one more flight downstairs to the kitchen/living room area and not a single person was to be found other than Mitch eating away at a bag of chips on the couch, flicking through the channels on the television
“Where is everyone?” I asked him while walking over to the fridge to grab a water bottle.
“Sleeping.” Mitch answered sarcastically as if I should have known that. I rolled my eyes taking a sip of water before questioning again.
“Where’s y/n.” I inquired walked over to stand beside the couch.
“Oh, her and the girls went out to the dock real quick.” He answered unphased, not removing his sight from the TV that now played some old 90s cartoon.
“Isn’t it about to storm outside?” I questioned looking out at the clouds in the sky that looked like they were going to drop water any minute.
“Not for like, another two hours.” Mitch stated clearly annoyed that I was interrupting his cartoon show. I rolled my eyes again at him before moving to look out the patio door windows. There was a clear wall of rain moving quickly towards the sand that obviously wouldn’t take two hours to arrive.
Before I could think anything more of it, I heard a loud vibrating buzz come from the table behind me. It was a symphony of echoes playing through the hallow wood. I turned and noticed y/n’s phone laying on the table, lit up with a call. Mitch paused the television to grab himself a drink when he heard the sound as well, walking over.
“Whose phone is that?” He inquired leaning over the table to snoop at the call.
“Jack? Like y/n’s ex Jack?” He continued squinting at the screen. The moment he said his name I felt my heart drop down to my stomach. Not believing him I looked at the screen myself seeing his name lit up across the top.
“What the fuck does he want?” I mumbled under my breath, eyebrows tightening in confusion. It took everything out of me not to answer, but I had no business to.
“I don’t know, why don’t you ask him.” Mitch said sarcastically, laughing at me noticing how defensive I got once seeing his name. Finally, the call stopped, and the sound seized.
I began walking away from the table to sit on the couch when the vibrating started once again. His name playing across the top of the screen just like it did moments ago.
“Dude, why are you so bothered? They’re still friends you know.” Mitch accused bumping into me as he retreated to the couch.
“I’m not bothered.” I spoke shrugging my shoulders to seem unphased, moving away from the table to sit next to Mitch.
“That’s not what your water bottle is saying.” He teased, I looked down at my hand that was clenching my water bottle to the point it would probably pop soon. I eased my grip and took a breath to calm myself. I couldn’t even explain why I was so bothered. I know y/n wouldn’t go back to him. He lives in Europe now. Maybe it was just the years of jealousy building up.
Suddenly a loud clash of thunder sounded from the outside scaring both Mitch and I. We then turned to each other with wide eyes realizing the girls were still outside. Soon after the sound of rain began tapping on the windows and balcony outside. Both of us ran out onto the covered part of the balcony to see the dock in the distance and make sure they were all okay. We had a sigh of relief once seeing they were all frolicking in the rain towards the house, clearly enjoying the rain way more than they should have been. Matt showed up behind us shortly after hearing the thunder as well and worrying about Sydney.
“So, we all agree not to let them do that again, right?” Matt said while looking out at the storm that was approaching. Mitch and I nodded our heads before going to get towels to dry them off once they came in.
They eventually stumbled into the house soaking wet, still laughing from how much fun it apparently was. I was happy to see y/n smiling and laughing but if they could do that while not out in a storm, that’d be better.
“Glad you’re ok.” I whispered draping the towel around her shoulders.
“It’s just a little rain. The storm won’t hit for another half hour.” She argued. She then started shivering and her teeth chattered due to the air conditioning in the house since she was soaking wet, so I definitely needed to get her warm.
~ Your POV ~
At first you didn’t notice but the whole house felt like an ice box once you stepped in. Normally you wouldn’t feel the breeze from the vents but now it felt as if you were on top of a mountain. You tried to hide your shivers, but your jaw and shoulders couldn’t help but jitter.
“Come on, let’s get you warmed up.” Auston stated guiding you to your room. You could tell he had obviously been nervous thinking the storm was a lot closer than it actually was, but it made you feel good that he cared.
You stepped into the bathroom alone to change your clothes and dry off. You figured you’d let your hair air dry and hung the towel up over the shower curtain pole also to dry. After finishing up you walked back into the bedroom and saw Auston sitting on the side of your bed, with concern still written all over his face.
“Oh, come on, there’s no way a little rain and thunder scared you that bad.” You laughed, placing your hands on his shoulders to steady yourself as you climbed onto the bed to straddle his lap. His arms immediately wrapped around your waist to hold you secure onto him. His face pulled into a smirk admiring your presence, but you could see there was something still bothering him.
“What’s wrong?” You whispered, not needing to speak loudly with the small amount of space separating you two. You could see in his eyes there was some sense of fear or doubt.
“I know it’s none of my business, you don’t have to answer if you don’t want to, but do you still talk to Jack?” Auston questioned. Your face immediately tightened in confusion. You didn’t know why he would ask that or where it was coming from. The question didn’t bother you, sometimes you wondered about his ex too, you just had no idea why he was asking.
“He’ll text me and ask how I am every once in a while, but nothing more than that. I haven’t been responding at all this week.” You explained studying his facial features as you spoke. You noticed they relaxed once you answered.
“Why do you ask?” You continued. He looked down not wanting to make eye contact. You could tell he didn’t want to bring it up or talk about him, but he was curious.
“You left your phone on the table and he called a couple times. I was just wondering if that was normal or not. But I know you guys are still friends, I trust you. Curiosity just got to me.” He explained himself. His statement reminded you of the call he had made to you in the restaurant. He never called twice, and the one time he did it was to tell you he missed you. So, maybe it was a good thing you weren’t there to answer.
“Well trust me you don’t have to worry about him. He’s in a whole different continent doing busy and important things.” You admitted, leaning in to plant a kiss on his lips. You felt them pull into a smirk again after you made your accusation and your lips pressed against his. You could feel the stress ease off of him as the kiss lingered. His arms tightened behind you as it prolonged with him slipping his tongue between your lips.
His breath was becoming more steady and you could feel his heartbeat against your chest. Your fingertips rubbed the hair on his neck while the kiss continued. You completely forgot about Jack as the sounds of your mouths moving simultaneously filled the room and the touch of his warm body against yours rose goose bumps.
Another loud crash of thunder shook the house causing the two of you to get startled and break apart. You both giggled due to the scare, then you decided to hop off his lap to lay down on the bed. You patted the comforter next to you for him to lie down before resting your head on his chest and listening to the thunder storm until you fell asleep.

13 Nights of Halloween #11 - Halloween Party with the Kids
Tumblr media
“Do you need help?” You asked looking up at Harry who was standing on a ladder putting up the orange lights in the backyard.
“No, I’ve got it,” he groaned. “It’s just these bloody things won’t stay up.”
“Well, maybe we need to put them somewhere else,” you said.
“It won’t look right if there isn’t a strand here,” he said. “I need to move closer.”
He walked down the ladder and moved it closer to the edge.
“Mumma! When everyone gonna be here?” your son asked looking up at you anxiously.
“In a few hours,” you said softly.
He whined and stomped his little foot. “Why so long!”
“Because we still have to set everything up and then get ready,” you smiled.
“Daddy take too long,” he mumbled.
“I heard that!” Harry said clearly offended from up on the ladder.
You laughed shaking your head, “Just finished the lights and get down from there. We don’t a trip to the hospital.”
“I’m almost done,” he said.
“Want to help me with some of the snacks?” You asked your son.
“We eat them?” He gasped.
“No,” you giggled. “We have to make them and save them for the party.”
He groaned, “Its gonna be forever from now.”
“Not too much longer, I promise,” you laughed taking him inside.
**
A few hours later, you were all in your costumes and setting the food out. You all had dressed up as the Incredible family for your first Halloween party... for kids. Ever since you and Harry had gotten together you hosted, when possible, a Halloween party for all of your friends. Usually, the entire house would be decked out like a Haunted House with tons of food and alcohol.
Those parties were some of the best ones you had ever attended if you do say so yourself. However, after you two had gotten married and started having kids, you stopped, but now that the kids were a little older, you decided on starting up the tradition. But now, the house was decorated like a child-friendly Halloween Funhouse with tons of treats, snacks, and juice boxes.
There were also games like bobbing for apples, what’s in the box, face painting, and a bouncy house.
“WOW!” The kids cheered when you brought them out to the backyard while holding Jack-Jack, well your six-month-old son Mick dressed as Jack-Jack.
“This so cool!”  your 5-year-old daughter, Sydney said.
“Yeah! We do this all time?” William asked.
“How about just every Halloween,” you laughed.
“I have to say we did pretty well,” Harry smiled wrapping his arms around you.
“Especially since it’s been about six years since our last one,” you said.
“Let’s just hope everyone else feels the same way,” he smiled.
You nodded knowing that practically everyone who used to attend the parties was now all attending with their families. It still felt weird knowing that you and all of your friends were old enough to have families of your own, and most had multiple babies.
Sydney and William quickly ran over to the bouncy house to “test” it out before all the other kids arrived. You laughed before walking over to the food table and making sure everything was out. Harry took baby Mick from you as went to the front door for once everyone started arriving.
And it didn’t take long before they did. Soon all of your friends and their kids arrived and the kids went crazy over everything. There were plenty at the bouncy house.  A ton trying to bob for apples, a few were getting their face painted, including some of the adults, and then, of course, the treats and other snacks were about half gone.
You and Harry took turns mingling through the crowd while holding the baby and you would occasionally find your two other children and smile seeing a huge smile on their faces.  While you taking pictures of them, Harry snuck up behind you, wrapping his arms around your waist, well the best he could with the fake muscles of Mr. Incredible.
You laughed, “Um, aren’t you missing someone?”
“Don’t worry, Mick’s with Glenne,” he said. “I wanted some alone time with my wife.”
He kissed your cheek and you smiled. “So, it seems everyone’s having a great time.”
“I know, I’m glad,” you smiled. “It’s making me wish we didn’t wait so long before doing another party. I’ve missed it.”
“Me too,” he smiled. “Although, I think next year... we should maybe pick a night to bring back the adult party. I kinda miss the drunk karaoke moments and seeing you in a sexy costume,” he smirked.
You rolled your eyes, “You would.”
“Can you blame me?” He laughed.
“Mumma, Daddy! Come on!” Sydney said walking up. “Let’s go play games.”
She pulled on both of your arms and you both laughed as you followed her, enjoying the rest of the night at your family-friendly party.

Now, it’s the year 2034.
It’s around 6 pm in Sydney. Luke stood by in the arrival area of the airport, wiping some sweat on his forehead when he was bombarded by some paparazzi on his way inside earlier. As he recovered, he feels a vibrating buzz on one of the pockets of his jeans. Bringing out his phone, it was a text.
“Just arrived, dad! Give me around 5-10 minutes, just waiting for my luggage.” He reads. It was from *Rebecca*.
Jokes on him, it’s actually Stella. Originally, it’s Rebecca with Luke then Stella with you. Nope, they switched. But hey, let’s just stick to *Rebecca*.
This trip to Florida was the first time Rebecca travels abroad by herself, and boy he missed her, even it’s been a month and a half.
His little girl alone and gone? Shit.
He was hesitant at first when she asked you about this camp, adding how Scarlett Irwin, Ashton’s oldest daughter, had fun there 2 years ago. Yet, why not? It’s a small start with teaching her some independence, especially since he himself traveled without any family when he was in his late teenage years, not even counting the boys.
But calling each other wasn’t an easy thing, trying to find the middle ground always. They talked for the first two weeks, which then abruptly stopped on the last half of her stay in camp. He couldn’t blame her, especially since camp is physically tiring. Not only that, he grew very busy too with working on new music. Even up to this time, the band is still making music.
But the next album would be the last since he wants to focus on his family, on Rebecca. The boys felt the same, especially since they have families of their own. If that was the case, then he would gladly be satisfied with working as a music producer and lyric composer for other artists and bands. Just as long as music is involved, everything is well.
“Dad!” Luke’s attention shifted. He immediately looks up to see a short, blonde girl with her favorite black ripped jeans and suitcase. His stressed expression turned happy.
“Come here, you little poppet!” He exclaims, kneeling down to her level and spread his arms wide open. Rebecca runs to him despite her luggage, and gives him a warm hug, being lifted by him too. How she missed him, all this time.
Tumblr media
“I missed you so much, dad.” She mumbles in his ear.
“I miss you too, Becks.” He uses her other nickname before he lets her go from his grasp and then they do their special handshake, air-guitaring in the end. He begins to notice a few changes.
“You cut your hair! I thought you loved your black dyed ends?” He starts.
“Well, Florida was just as warm as Sydney, dad! I couldn’t help it.” She states, tugging a piece on the back of her ear.
“You got really tan and a bit sunburnt too, huh?” Luke observes.
“Yeah, but it was worth it. Camp was really fun.” She says as she reminisces what she calls the best summer of her life so far. Suddenly, she felt some tears going down her cheek.
“Oh no poppet, what’s wrong? Did someone break your heart already?” Luke worries, wiping away some tears.
“It’s nothing. I just really missed you, and time felt so long when you’re in a different country.” She answers, sniffing a bit.
“Hmm I see, poppet. But don’t you worry, you’re back with me now, okay? I got you always.” He reassures before getting a hold of her wheeled suitcase.
“How about you talk more about what happened in camp on the way home, yeh?”
“Sure thing, dad.” *Rebecca* bubbly answers, finally glad to use this word after so long.
-
“Here’s one thing I want to point out, dad. I love you and all, but it’s weird when some camp counselors knew you from way before I was born and talked about how good-looking you were and still are and wanted to marry you. They even wanted you to make a sudden appearance!” *Rebecca* cringes, getting a slight shiver in her bones. Luke laughs at her emotions as his eyes maintained at the road.
“Well, I’m flattered. So far as I’m concerned, you’re the only girl I have in my life right now.” He professes.
“Welp, that’s the second time I’ve cringed on this trip home.” She jokes.
“So what else happened? Did you do anything mischievous or rad?” Luke tried to act cool like he says he was, but he did try though.
“Cringing for the third time, oh no.” *Rebecca* facepalms.
“Now come on, tell me more.” Rebecca ponders on other funny stuff that happened, despite most of the time, it was spent arguing and competing with Stella before they maturely put aside their difference. All of a sudden, this one really crazy experience hit her mind: when she lost that game of poker. She changed the perspective into the real Rebecca’s, of course.
“Well one time, after dinner and before curfew, the girls and I played poker and boy, I got a lot of candy and American knick knacks afterwards. Also, this one girl challenged me to a best of 3 rounds and I won! To top it off, I made her do a forfeit!” *Rebecca* excitedly shares as Luke drives.
“Oh no, what did you make her do?” Luke asks, smirking at his daughter’s antics. Rebecca is a very cheeky, mischievous girl, always having tricks above her sleeve and tactics to pursue them. Just like her dad.
“I made her jump in the cold lake, commando. The other girls and I stole her clothes too, leaving only her shoes.” She reveals, followed by a hit of laughter from her.
“You evil little girl. But very smart must I say for an 11 year old to have nudity involved.” Luke commends. As a father, he is very open. If she has questions, he makes sure to answer them as truthfully as possible. Thank the heavens she hasn’t asked the where-do-babies-come-from question ever.
He also doesn’t want to be a harsh and strict one, which could lead to Rebecca lying to him a lot in the near future, yet he doesn’t spoil her too much and corrects her when she is wrong or does wrong things. He wants her to trust him and vice versa.
“Well thank you, 37 year old dad.” *Rebecca* gives a funny comeback.
“Don’t push it, poppet.” Luke chuckled. From his peripheral vision, he noticed *Rebecca* looking the sunset.
“Missed seeing that?”
“Yup. Nothing beats it.” *Rebecca* says as her eyes gleam at how beautiful it was. It was nothing compared to Los Angeles. She was gazing at it when they reached a stoplight, wherein it was a chance for Luke to plug his phone to the aux cord of his car and then presses shuffle on his music.
“I don't mind, letting you down easy but just give it time.” He sings along. It removed *Rebecca* from her daze as she knew this song too, so she sang along with him.
“If it don't hurt now, but just wait, just wait a while, you're not the big fish in the pond no more.” She sings back. When the chorus played, they were jamming hard, not giving a damn with what the other people from the outside and other cars would think.
“I definitely missed singing songs in the car with you, poppet.” Luke confirms, holding *Rebecca’s* hand. Before they knew, Luke saw a familiar white house at the end of Braxton Lane.
“We’re home.” Luke says as he drives through the garage, parking it there. As they got out of the car, *Rebecca* admired how lovely the house was. White and huge, just as the real Rebecca described to her.
“Felicia, we’re home!” He shouts from outside. Felicia is the nanny of the family since the beginning and always helps out in any way she can. He opens the trunk of the car, and yanks out *Rebecca’s* luggage. She just kept looking around while he did such.
“You really missed this huh?” She nods. They both walk the pathway to the front door, and as Luke opened the door, it was dark as they got inside. But when they closed the door, the lights suddenly turned on, seeing a lot of ‘new’ faces from *Rebecca’s* eyes.
“Welcome home, Rebecca!” They burst out. This whole time, Luke planned this surprise a few days before. He wanted it to be perfect. *Rebecca* was overwhelmed with the surprise, yet enlightened to see the close loved ones of her dad. She felt welcome.
“Oh you’ve changed quite a bit, little Becks.” An elderly woman walks up first to *Rebecca* before embracing her. *Rebecca* quickly analyzes her face, trying to recall who she is from the family tree the real Rebecca taught her.
“Aww, Granny Liz! How I’ve missed you!” She remembered. As they let go, a teenage boy walks towards Rebecca.
“Got a bit tan over there in Florida, Becca?” He compliments. *Rebecca* analyzes again, Then it hit her.
“More than here, Max.” Max is her oldest cousin on Luke’s side. He’s 17 and specifically, Jack and Celeste Hemmings’ only child.
“Oh no, this diva is back.” Joining in the conversation is Alex Clifford, Michael’s 12 year old and oldest son. The real Rebecca mentioned to her that he’s her ultimate best friend since they knew each other for so long. But little did the real Rebecca knew is that *Rebecca* finds him really cute.
“What’s it to you, loser?” She banters along with a sassy tone.
“Wow, it’s not even an hour yet and you guys are all sassy already.” The last person to join the conversation was a middle-aged redhead with her arms crossed.
“Oh Felicia, we’re really like this. You tolerated us for it.” The “Felicia” Alex referred to is the nanny the real Rebecca grew up with.
“Hmm. Well if you excuse me, Alex, let me give some love to my poppet while you and the other kids go ahead and play games or whatever your generation does nowadays.”
“Alright. Bye, Felicia. Catch up later, Becks.” Alex leaves the scene, probably going to talk guy stuff with Max.
“So how are you, poppet?” Felicia begins.
“Great, a bit tired from the trip, but still great.”
“That’s nice to here. Anyways, I prepared your favorite meals, like 5-cheese macaroni and cheese, roasted chicken, brownies. Go and get something to munch on, afterwards you better tell me stories about camp.” *Rebecca* nods as she grabs a plate and serving the good food on her plate.
Meanwhile and much later, also to Luke’s dismay, his parents had to leave ahead because they have an early flight to London the following day. Luke was then chatting with the guys with their wives by the patio while the other teenage and adolescent children were playing Frisbee and other games by the backyard.
“Well mates and gals, the night is pretty young. Let’s drink to that!” Ashton brings his beer up, urging everyone to bring their drinks up. They clinked them together, which was followed by a set of “woo’s”.
“It’s been a little while since we’ve had something like this, right?” Luke asks as he continues to indulge his beer.
“Yeah. I feel like we’re in our twenties again. Those were some fucking good years, well before the kids.” Calum reminisced as he lit up his second cigarette of the night.
“We’re lacking weed though.” Michael says with realization, getting chuckles from everyone.
“I have to say, Rebecca’s changed quite a lot, yeh?” Celeste acknowledged.
“Yeah! Her hair is short, which is rare.” Crystal points out. Yes, they got married, which is pretty cute. They have three kids, Alex, Beatrix and a younger boy named Nathan, or Nate.
“She might’ve grown an inch or two since the last time I saw her.” Eleanor, Calum’s wife, adds. They met when Eleanor was one of the tour photographers for the band, wherein she was always on Calum’s side of the stage taking photos. He gradually grew a liking for her, starting with having lunches together and photoshoots pretty much anywhere. Then, then rest is history. Marriage and an only son named Nicholas, or Nick.
“She’s grown a bit shyer and quiet too. I don’t know, but I’m not used to her not like this laid back, and she would always arrive at a party like this with a loud hello.” Bryana addresses. She and Ashton sorted things out and tried again. Now, they’ve been married for more than 10 years, also with 3 kids, Scarlett and two boys named Oliver and Topher.
“Give her a break, love. The poor girl just got off a really long flight.” Ashton intervenes.
“Hold on, is Sierra still coming over, mate?” Jack changes topic, about Sierra. Deaton to be specific, also known as the singer Essy. She’s also a close friend of the band. Even a friend of yours too before.
“Sadly, she couldn’t. Working in the studio still for that next album.” Luke answers. Oh no, this topic.
“Oh yeah. So when are you gonna tell Rebecca about you and Sierra? She onlys knows you two as good friends.” Crystal brings it up a lot further.
“Shit, I don’t know. Soon perhaps?” He replies, really unsure.
“Well, you gotta do it fast. You’re getting married again in a month, God damnit!” Michael reminds, putting his head on top of Crystal’s shoulder. Luke’s stress levels rose. He didn’t know to approach this situation, especially since Rebecca didn’t have an actual motherly influence after the divorce.
Hmm, unless you count Felicia.
“Again, lol.” Michael points out that word jokingly, which gave an immediate shock everyone in the room.
Picture a lot of Kermit the frogs drinking tea. It was like that, except with alcohol and cigarettes. Shady indeed. If there was the “He-Who-Must-Not-Be-Named” from Harry Potter, then this was the Topic-Which-Should-Never-Be-Brought-Up.
Much to their luck, Luke didn’t rage or anything. He was unresponsive and just continues to finish his second beer of the night. But he felt a pang of pain. Regret even, but he didn’t want to set the evening with bad vibes.
“Drunk already, Clifford? It’s only 9 pm.” Calum breaks the silence, getting a chuckle from Eleanor.
“Not really, but I’m not as strong as I used to be, Hood.” Michael mumbles, and right before he takes another sip, Crystal grabs his beer from him.
“And I believe you’ve drank too much for tonight. You’re driving, or better yet, I will.” She says politely out of safety. Michael grins like a Cheshire cat, grabbing back his beer.
Despite those past topics, the group continued on talking, never running out of things to say or share. Not to mention indulging more alcohol, except for Crystal, Ashton, Eleanor and Jack. They’re the designated drivers.
Ashton shared that he tried to answer the where-do-babies-come-from question from Nate one day, while Luke shared what *Rebecca* told him earlier in the car about the camp counselors, Jack told about his trip to Sweden with his family, and lastly, the most amazing one which is from Calum and Eleanor.
“We’re expecting.” Eleanor announces, receiving hugs and congratulations from everyone. Time passed so quickly, and eventually, midnight hits. The boys and girls still had work in the morning.
Good luck to them, especially Michael. As they all left, Luke crashed instantly on the couch, his tipsy eyes about to close after drinking a lot of beer.
“Someone looks dead tired.” It was *Rebecca*, commenting on his exhausted physique and sits beside him.
“Imagine working in the studio, driving for 30 minutes to the airport to fetch you, then organizing and entertaining this little party for you.” He responds, his arms reaching out to her for a cuddle. Hesitant at first, but eh, she wanted to treasure everything she missed out on with him. Kissing the top of her forehead, Luke speaks up again.
“Tomorrow, we are spending the whole day together. Anything you want to do, poppet, let’s go for it.”
“Well, that whole day starts now, dad. Let’s start with sleeping.” She suggests as he nods. Lazily, they stood up.
“Good night poppet. Don’t let jetlag win you over.”
“Noted. Good night, dad.” As Luke was the first to walk away, Rebecca speaks up.
“Good luck with your future hangover.” She adds, jokingly.
Oh this girl, he thought. Today is bound to be good.

Famous muse Pattie Boyd says she neglected herself in her rock star marriages
10 April 2018 — 10:21am
If you remember the '60s, you weren't there: so it is said of that explosive decade of sex, drugs and rock'n'roll when girls sashayed down the Kings Road in tiny skirts and Biba boots, boys wore ruffled shirts over tight velvet trousers and London was the epicentre of cool.
Oblivion came with the territory: Eric Clapton was supposed to have slept with more than 1000 women but as he told me in an interview for Fairfax Media, "I wouldn't know, I was in a blackout for quite a few of them".

Pattie Boyd was both muse and wife to Clapton, to George Harrison before him and no stranger to drug and booze-fuelled partying. But there was little danger of failing memory for her. She kept a record of the wild years – portraits and reportage style snaps taken with a Polaroid and, later, on a Hasselblad.
As fans and paparazzi clamoured at the door, Boyd had the inside track, hanging out with The Beatles and friends, at home with George, on tour with Eric. "I took endless photos," she says. "It was something to do, otherwise you could feel a bit spare."

We are talking in her Kensington flat ahead of an exhibition of her photographs and a series of speaking engagements in Australia in May. I'd spent several minutes on the rather grand doorstep, repeatedly ringing the bell and wondering if I'd got the wrong address. Perhaps she'd been having a nap; she is 74 after all and it is that snoozy, post-lunch time of day when I often feel like one myself. She does seem quite dreamy, half-heartedly remonstrating with a friendly Irish terrier called Freddie who inspects me thoroughly before jumping onto a large pouffe, not quite as pristine white as the matching sofas. "He's allowed on that one," she says.
Boyd is wearing skinny jeans on her long, slim legs and a deep blue mohair jumper; a fall of blonde hair frames what is still recognisably the face that launched, not a thousand ships, but three of the greatest love songs of the 20th century.
George Harrison wrote Something in the first flush of his youthful marriage to Boyd; the soaring guitar chords of Layla expressed Clapton's yearning obsession with his friend's wife. Then, when he had won her, he wrote Wonderful Tonight – and who hasn't danced dreamily to that, wrapped in a lover's arms?
There is a photograph of a 19-year-old Boyd in the flat: blonde fringe, huge blue mascara'd eyes and a tiny Union Jack stuck on the end of her nose. It is from a weighty coffee table book, Birds of Britain, containing portraits of London's posh totty – society girls who roamed the bars and vintage clothes stalls of Chelsea. Boyd's face is on the cover.

She was a model then, on the run from her dysfunctional family, broke and living on Birds Eye chicken pies in a shared flat. "You had to go round the photographers persuading them to use you for shoots," she says. "Norman Parkinson said, 'Come back when you've learned to do your hair.' It was all DIY hair and make up back then."
Did photographers hit on her? "Well some might try it on but you didn't submit and say, 'Oh must I?' You'd get out of there and warn the others." So it wasn't a #MeToo scene? "No! I don't know why these women don't just say, 'F--k off, I'm not having a meeting with you in your dressing gown with nothing on underneath.'" Is she a feminist? "Well not in the old 'hate men' way, but I don't like women being treated badly. I think the young generation – what are they called, snowflakes? – don't take responsibility for themselves."

She met George Harrison on the set of A Hard Day's Night – she played a schoolgirl – and they married when she was 21. They moved into Friar Park, a gothic pile in Hampshire where the Beatles came to record, friends drove from London to stay and she threw herself into decorating, cooking and entertaining. She was, she says, blissfully in love but often lonely: wives and girlfriends were not allowed on tour and Harrison was frequently absent. After the Beatles had discovered the Maharishi Yogi and they all went to India to learn meditation, Harrison returned gripped by eastern mysticism. "He chanted a lot," she recalls, "it's difficult to talk to someone who's chanting."
He had also discovered that he was attractive to women: "He was famous, good-looking, had tonnes of money and flash cars – what a combo. Girls were offering themselves everywhere and he loved it. To come home to old wifey must have been a bit dull."
I took endless photos. It was something to do, otherwise you could feel a bit spare.
Does she think all men would be like that if they could? "Yes I do," she says firmly. What constrains them? She shrugs: "Society, women, family?"
Eric Clapton had been a frequent visitor to Friar Park, laying siege to Boyd and, famously, playing a guitar "duel" with Harrison in the kitchen: she was the putative prize. "It was John Hurt [the actor] who described it as a duel," she says, "and he was so on the button. I sensed it but I hadn't formulated it."
She was attracted to Clapton, by then a rock deity – the legend "Clapton is God" was spray-painted on city walls – but determined to stay in her marriage. Her parents had split up when she was 10, her stepfather was a cruel and unusual man who tyrannised the family and left her mother for another woman: "As a child I always thought I would do anything to avoid divorce."
By the time she left Harrison – "He didn't want us to be together, it was a life of rejection" – Clapton had made good on his threat to take heroin if he couldn't have her. It would be four years before they got together.
Propped on an easel beside the window of Boyd's flat is a rather beautiful black and white photograph of John Lennon. Did she take it? "No, I bought it." Wasn't he the most interesting of the four? "He was, yes, he was. He was quite volatile, you never knew what he would say next. He was a pretty sexy guy actually." Did they have a fling? "No!" she exclaims. I explain I'd seen it suggested somewhere in a newspaper article. "How cheeky," she says comfortably. Later, reading her autobiography published in 2007, I find another reference to the rumoured liaison. True or not, I don't think she minds the idea.
Boyd and Clapton married in 1979: "I was madly passionate about him," she says. "We lived at Hurtwood Edge [Clapton's home for the past 50 years], I was in my 30s and ready to have babies; I used to wander round the house thinking, this will be the baby's room, the nanny can sleep here." But it was not to be: despite visits to a series of doctors and several rounds of IVF, the longed-for baby never arrived.
Clapton, meanwhile, had replaced heroin with alcohol and was drinking heroically. Boyd joined him on tour where he and the band would have girls to their rooms after the show. Cruellest of all, two of his extra-marital relationships produced babies: a daughter Ruth and two years later a son, Conor, who would die, aged four, in a fall from the window of his mother's New York apartment. Boyd and Clapton divorced in 1988.
Asked once who was the great love of her life, Boyd nominated Harrison: "I think he always loved me … Eric loves himself. She admits now: "In both my marriages I had neglected myself, and got lost in a big cloud of fame, I got lost in their lives."
When the music stopped Boyd found herself with a legacy – cardboard boxes full of photographs which she exhibits and sells as prints from her online gallery. They are the archive of an era: here is an angelic George lying in bed in an Indian ashram, Eric in a woodshed leaning on an axe and looking Lawrentian in corduroy trousers, Paul and Linda McCartney at Boyd's wedding to Eric, Anita Pallenberg and Marianne Faithfull at the Brixton Academy. They are candid and intimate: did anyone ever object? "No, not at all," she says, surprised, "I would never show a photo where someone's not looking good."
The collection has been a useful earner for the girl who left school with three O levels and had no need to work while married to rich men. She has continued to take photographs – portraits of actors for their books and pictures from her travels. Does the contemporary work sell? "No one's really interested," she says without rancour.
Freddie needs a walk so we put on coats and set off for Holland Park where the trees are still leafless but there are daffodils and a hint of spring. Boyd has been with her partner, property developer Rod Weston, for 20 years – "we are old friends" – and they wed in 2015. They share the Kensington flat and a cottage in Sussex bought for her by Clapton. Why did they decide to marry? "We have lots of nieces and nephews between us," she says, "we wanted to put everything in order so there wouldn't be any tears." We walk on a few paces: "It's funny," she says, "Rod has been much nicer since we married and I am happier and less selfish. I didn't anticipate that."
She remained friends with Harrison until his death from cancer in 2001 and has stayed in touch with Clapton, many years sober and married with three more children. Last year she accompanied him to the launch of a documentary about him, A Life in 12 Bars, in which she features, naturally. "He rang me and said, 'It's a bit raw Pattie, I hope you'll be OK.' I said, 'I'll be fine Eric. I'm a grown-up now."
George Harrison, Eric Clapton and Me: An Evening with Pattie Boyd will be held at Sydney's Four Seasons Hotel on May 15. Boyd's work will be shown at the Blender Gallery in Paddington from May 5 to June 2 as part of the Head On Photo Festival.

APMA’s - Part 1 (Chapter 27)
Tumblr media
Cleveland’s Rock and Roll Hall of Fame was probably one of the most beautiful buildings I had ever seen, but finally being inside and feeling the cool air conditioned air caress my heated skin was heaven on earth. The girls and I followed the guys as they made their way to the massive hall that would be holding the actual ceremony. Thirty tables, 15 on each side, lined the floor that was surrounded by levels of seats, where fans could view the awards. The front held the massive stage where all the bands would perform and the presenters would announce who won what.
    “I need a drink,” I announced after sitting at our designated table. The nerves were hitting full force and I needed something that would calm them.
    “It’s 5 Syd, maybe you should hold off,” Charlie laughed out, “at least until the show starts.”
It took everything in me not to flip her the bird as my leg bounced up and down. My nerves were shot and each passing second had my anxiety ratcheting up another notch. I watched as Andy and Juliet headed down the walkway separating the two rows of tables, taking a seat at the table directly across from us. From the corner of my eye I saw MGK collapsing at the table to our right with the rest of his group, followed by Papa Roach and his friends, all loud and slightly intoxicated. Why was I not with them?
Then I saw him cross in front of me and my breath froze in my lungs. The girls and Jared had done a great job of keeping him out of my line of sight the whole red carpet, but now? Now he was walking in front of me looking perfect. Shannon’s 5’9 frame was covered in a soft dark grey v-neck t-shirt with a black blazer rolled to his elbows. His legs enclosed in a pair of light blue ripped jeans and his favorite black shoes. The only blight on his appearance was the gorgeous brunette attached to his arm. She was stunning in her black dress and exoctic features that screamed Russian model. They looked flawless together and I wanted to throw something.
    “Fuck it,” I breathed out, “I’m getting a drink.” I announced louder before standing up.
My abrupt movement caught Shannon’s eye making him stop his trek to the table to the left of ours.
    “Sydney,” his voice was low, almost a whisper, before he cleared it and moved to stand in front of me, “you look beautiful tonight.”
    “I-umm,” I started my voice cracking and stuttering before I backed away from him and his girlfriend, “excuse me.”
I’m sure I looked crazy or at the very least rude as fuck, but there was no way I could stand there and talk to him like nothing had happened. Finally, I stepped up to the bar ordering the strongest Jack & Coke I could, before leaning against the wood to wait for my drink.
    “Drinking alone?” A familiar male voice asked. I cut my eyes down the bar meeting Kelly’s too blue gaze.
    “Stalker much?” I retorted before the bartender handed me my drink.
    “Oh come on,” he defended, starting his way down the bar to stand in front of me, “that was just rude, it’s a public area with alcohol.”
    “You’re right, that was mean.” His boyish grin had me smiling back up at him, god this man was tall. “I apologize, it’s not been the best beginning to the night.”
    “I’ll forgive you if you agree to let me buy you a drink at the after party.” His silver fangs glinted from the lights above and I felt a shiver run down my spine.
    “Hmmm,” I pretended to think on it for a moment before clinking my glass against his, “deal.”
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
I felt eyes on me, from honestly every direction, as Kelly escorted me back to my table. After thanking him, I finally sat down facing the girls. Their expressions ranging from B’s completely open curiosity to Charlie’s eyes rolling so hard I thought they’d fall out of her skull to Ace’s barely disguised disgust.
    “What?” I finally snapped, each of their eyes growing wide at my outburst.
    “Nothing, nothing,” Charlie started, hands raised in defense, “absolutely nothing.”
    “Somehow I don’t believe you.” I sighed out.
Soon the lights faded, thankfully halting any more conversation about me and Kelly. The crowd of fans grew louder as Alex and Jack from All Time Low took the stage, beginning their hosting duties of the night. We laughed and cheered on Tyler Posey’s appearances. We sang and swayed to Chris Carrabba’s acoustic performance of Hands Down, before singing and dancing to the combined performance of Mayday Parade and The Main. My 90’s heart skyrocketed when Stephan James of 3rd Eye Blind joined the stage and started singing Jumper. The girls laughed at my enthusiasm as I sang at the top of my lungs, letting the tension of the last month leave my frame, to hell with all this drama. I was going to drink, have fun and enjoy the outcomes of the awards, consequences be damned.
Jack and Alex took to the stage once again, announcing Savannah, Oliver and Masato, three lead singers who were presenting the award for Best Vocalist. I felt myself move to the edge of my seat as I watched the nominees flash across the screen, joining the screaming fans as Kellin and Patrick’s faces and names joined the rest of the nominees. I glanced around the room, locking eyes with Kellin across the way, his face was lined with stress as we waited for Savannah to open the envelope. I gave him my most encouraging smile before we heard Oliver’s voice ring out over the PA announcing Patrick had won, Kellin grinned wide as we all stood and clapped for our close friend. The night proceeded from there, Yellowcard performed next and watching Vic perform with them was beyond amazing, his grin was infectious and you could tell he was on cloud nine.
After Best International Band was taken by You Me at Six, Spencer from Ice Nine Kills and Matt from From Ashes to New took the stage to announce the winner of Best Bassist. We all turned to B who looked as white as a ghost, which considering how pale she already was, was a feet in and of itself. Ace slid her hand over to grab B’s unoccupied hand as we watched the nominees being announced on the screen.
    “And the winner is,” Spencer started slowly.
    “Skylar Accord, Issues.” Matt finished.
Pete leaned over and kissed the top of B’s head as Ace slung her arm around her slender shoulders.
    “You’ll get it next time B!” Charlie said with a encouraging smile.
    “Guys, really it’s ok. He definitely deserved it. I’m honestly just honored to be nominated.” Brook laughed out.
I laughed with my sister as the waiter rounded our table again and I waved him down, the girls looked at me warily as I ordered my third drink of the night.
    “Dude, it’s a party, I’m going to enjoy my night.” I argued as the waiter left.
    “Just don’t overdue it is all, I know why, but just careful.” Jared countered from between me and Ace.
I rolled my eyes but nodded to appease him. Issues performed next, followed by Stitched Up At Heart presenting Best Live Band which we lost to Neck Deep, but let's be real here, we knew there was no way we were winning against them. Their stage presence was off the wall and we happily cheered as they took the stage to accept their much deserved award. Good Charlotte performed after taking home Classic Album for Young and the Hopeless, which made me feel about 20 x's too old. The next award was for Best Drummer and if I thought Brook was tense about her nomination, it was nothing compared to how Ace looked as her name slid across the screen as Matt from August Burns Red opened the envelope. Sadly it went to CC, but Ace grinned and clapped as we watched him stand from across the walkway and hug Andy.
    “Okay, now I need a drink.” Ace announced as she leaned against Jared.
Her stress of possibly having to walk the stage alone was released as soon as CC’s name rang through the hall.
    “About time!” I yelled, “now I won’t be the only getting ugly looks.”
The girls’ rolled their eyes before ordering their first round and my fourth, soon I was going to lose count. I watched Alex and Jake prepare the stage as Set It Off joined them to announce Best Music Video and I froze in my place, eyes jumping straight to Andy, who’s eyes were already on me. I know it’s awful, but all I could think was ‘please don’t win, please don’t win’ as clips of the nominees’ videos played on the big screen. I blushed as Andy’s video flashed across with a snippet of us rolling around on the hotel bed. Glancing across the room, I caught quite a few people looking between Andy and I, making me want the ground to swallow me whole as I caught Juliet’s murderous gaze. Something about her made the petty side of me rear it’s ugly head, causing me to shrug at her before raising my glass in a mock salute, draining the last of its contents.
Laughter to my right had me briefly looking over to Kelly, who grinned as he watched my little display of bitchiness. He raised his glass before copying my salute, his grin never faltering, at least someone was enjoying my level of pettiness over here.
    “And the winner is Andy Black for Beyond My Reach,” Cody’s voice announced and my head snapped back to the front.
    “Please tell me I misheard him?” I choked out.
    “If you had been paying attention instead of eye flirting with blondie over there,” Ace started sarcastically, “you would know, that no, you didn’t mishear him.”
    “Why is everyone on my case about who I talk to tonight,” I grumbled as I slammed back in my chair.
    “We just think he’s a bad idea Syd.” Charlie joined in.
    “They, they think he’s a bad idea.” Brook chirped, clarifying her stance, “I think you do what you need to do.”
I grinned at my baby sister as Andy started his ‘thank you’ speech, god please don’t thank me. Thankfully he wanted to keep his head tonight cause not one peep was made about me or my involvement in the video and I praised whatever holy being was looking down on me.
LUCY GETS LUCKY
March 1, 1975
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Directed by Jack Donohue ~ Written by Robert O'Brien
Synopsis
Lucy Collins comes to Las Vegas to see Dean Martin perform at the newly-opened MGM Grand Hotel. When Lucy's reservation falls through, she hears that Martin is doing a special show for employees and promptly gets herself hired. Naturally, Lucy causes chaos in each department she is transferred to: valet parking, cocktail waitress, Keno girl. But Lucy gets lucky when Dean Martin takes a liking to her and arranges a front row seat at his show.
Cast
Lucille Ball (Lucy Collins) was born on August 6, 1911 in Jamestown, New York. She began her screen career in 1933 and was known in Hollywood as ‘Queen of the B’s’ due to her many appearances in ‘B’ movies. With Richard Denning, she starred in a radio program titled “My Favorite Husband” which eventually led to the creation of “I Love Lucy,” a television situation comedy in which she co-starred with her real-life husband, Latin bandleader Desi Arnaz. The program was phenomenally successful, allowing the couple to purchase what was once RKO Studios, re-naming it Desilu. When the show ended in 1960 (in an hour-long format known as “The Lucy-Desi Comedy Hour”) so did Lucy and Desi’s marriage. In 1962, hoping to keep Desilu financially solvent, Lucy returned to the sitcom format with “The Lucy Show,” which lasted six seasons. She followed that with a similar sitcom “Here’s Lucy” co-starring with her real-life children, Lucie and Desi Jr., as well as Gale Gordon, who had joined the cast of “The Lucy Show” during season two. Before her death in 1989, Lucy made one more attempt at a sitcom with “Life With Lucy,” also with Gordon.
Lucy Collins lives in Los Angeles and took the bus to Las Vegas.
Dean Martin (Himself) also played himself (and his stunt man doppelganger Eddie Feldman) in “Lucy Dates Dean Martin” (TLS S4;E21) in 1966.  He was born Dino Paul Crocetti in Steubenville, Ohio, in 1917. He made his screen debut in a short playing a singer in Art Mooney’s band, but his first big screen role was 1949’s My Friend Irma with Jerry Lewis. This began a partnership that would be one of the most successful screen pairings in cinema history. Later, he also worked frequently members of “the Rat Pack”: Frank Sinatra, Joey Bishop, Peter Lawford, and Sammy Davis Jr.  His persona was that of a playboy, usually seen with a glass of booze and a cigarette. Martin and Lucille Ball appeared on many TV variety and award shows together. He died on Christmas Day in 1995 at age 78.
Jackie Coogan (Gus L. Mitchell, below center) was a child actor. In “Ricky’s Screen Test” (ILL S4;E6) Lucy Ricardo hopes Little Ricky will be “the next Jackie Coogan.” Coogan was once married to Flower Parry, who was a frequent extra on “I Love Lucy.”  He is, of course, best remembered as Uncle Fester on TV’s “The Addams Family” (1964-66). He made two appearances on “The Lucy Show” and on one episode of “Here's Lucy.” He died in 1984 at age 69.
Gus Mitchell is head of personnel at the MGM Grand.
Tumblr media
Bruce Gordon (Max Siegel / Vogel, above right) is best known for playing Frank Nitti on the Desilu series “The Untouchables” (1959-63).  He played a version of the character when “The Lucy Show” parodied “The Untouchables” in 1966. He was also seen in “Lucy and the Ex-Con” (HL S1;E15) in 1969.
Although the final credits list him as Max Vogel, in the special Gordon clearly says his name is Max Siegel. He is a toy company executive with a business that has been suffering due to shipping problems with their baby dolls.
Paul Picerni (Packy West) was a also cast member of Desilu’s “The Untouchables” from 1959 to 1963. He was seen in four episodes of “Here’s Lucy.”
Lee Delano (Chuck Murdock) previously appeared on the Desilu shows “Star Trek” and “Mission: Impossible.”
Packy and Chuck are Max's gambling buddies.
Ken Lane (Himself) was Dean Martin's musical arranger, pianist, and, alongside Nelson Riddle, also served as composer for this special, although he was uncredited for that work.
Hal England (Dean Martin's Arranger) was an experienced Broadway actor who began screen acting in 1960. He previously appeared in “Lucy and the Astronauts” (HL S4;E5) and “My Fair Buzzi” (HL S5;E13). England died in 2003.
Joey Forman (Eddie) had a nightclub act with Mickey Rooney during the 1950s that led to his appearance on many TV variety shows.  He will also appear in “Lucy Calls the President” in 1979.
Eddie is the head of valet parking at the MGM Grand.
Gino Conforti (Antonio) began his TV acting career in 1968 and has been continually working since, although mostly as one-off characters. He had a recurring role as Felipe on “Three’s Company” from 1980 to 1982, a series Lucille Ball admired. He played the burglar in “Lucy Plays Cops and Robbers” (HL S6;E14) in 1974. He will also be seen in and “Three for Two” later in 1975.
Antonio is the Maitre D' at the Celebrity Room. His name is never mentioned in the dialogue.
Vanda Barra (Gladys) made over two dozen appearances on “Here’s Lucy” as well as appearing in Ball’s “Three for Two” (with Jackie Gleason). She was seen in half a dozen episodes of “The Lucy Show.” Barra was Lucille Ball’s cousin-in-law by marriage to Sid Gould.
Gladys is the desk clerk (possibly owner) of the Cactus Flower Motel.
Sid Gould (Taxi Driver) made more than 45 appearances on “The Lucy Show” and nearly as many on “Here’s Lucy.” Gould (born Sydney Greenfader) was Lucille Ball’s cousin by marriage to Gary Morton. He was previously in the Lucille Ball Special “Happy Anniversary and Goodbye.”
Gary Morton (Al) was a comedian who worked the famed ‘Borscht Belt’ in the Catskills Mountains. He met Lucille Ball shortly after her divorce from Desi Arnaz and they married in November 1961. At her request, Morton gave up his nightclub career and became a producer of “The Lucy Show.” Morton also served as a warm-up comic for the show’s studio audience. He is also Producer of this special. Morton passed away in 1999.
Al is a pit boss at the MGM Grand.  His name is not spoken in the dialogue.
Bonnie Boland (Sally) played Mabel on “Chico and the Man.” The last of her six episodes aired two weeks after this special was first broadcast.
Sally is a waitress at the MGM Grand Coffee Shop.
Jack Donohue (Ralph) was the director of this special, as well as many episodes of “The Lucy Show” and “Here's Lucy.” He would sometimes make cameo appearances in the episodes he directed.
Joan Swift (Dawn) made six appearances on the “The Lucy Show” as well as two episodes of “Here’s Lucy.” This special is her final screen credit.
Dawn is Ralph's wife. Lucy parks their car when they arrive at the MGM Grand.
Judith Wright (Peggy, Keno Girl)
Jane Aull (Keno Girl) was a background performer making her fifth and final screen appearance.
While making a telephone call, the character is mistaken from the back for Lucy.
Jay Jones (Maintenance Man) makes his screen debut with this special.
Roy Rowan (Voice Over Announcer, uncredited) was Lucille Ball’s announcer for all of her sitcoms. He also made occasional on-camera appearances.
During his introductions, Rowan doesn’t use the show's title, but calls it “The Lucille Ball Special.”  This was also the case with “Happy Anniversary and Goodbye,” which had nearly identical voice-over announcements introducing the show.
Tumblr media
This was Lucille Ball's second primetime special after the end of “Here's Lucy” in 1974. The first was “Happy Anniversary and Goodbye” four months earlier.  After playing a character named Norma in that special, Ball is back to playing a character named Lucy. This time her last name is Collins.
In 1953's “Lucy is Matchmaker” (ILL S3;E27), Lucy tried to fix up Eddie Grant with a girl named Sylvia Collins, although the character remained off-screen.
On “The Lucy Show” Viv’s on-again-off-again boyfriend was named Eddie Collins.
Collins is the surname assigned to Robert Cummings on a 1972 episode of “Here’s Lucy”.
In the film Follow The Fleet (1936), Lucille Ball’s character is named Kitty Collins.
On a 1966 “The Lucy Show” Mr. Mooney and Lucy Carmichael meet the hip hypnotist Pat Collins (her real name)!
Tumblr media
This special is available on DVD from MPI video or can be streamed online. It was originally aired on CBS in the USA and ITV in the UK. Like “Happy Anniversary and Goodbye”, this show is sponsored by Timex, which gets opening title credit.
Tumblr media
Writer Robert O'Brien had written 54 episodes of “The Lucy Show” and 24 of “Here's Lucy,” many of which were directed by Jack Donohue.
Tumblr media
The biggest departure for this special is there is no studio audience or laugh track.
Tumblr media
Lucille Ball reunites with many of her “Here's Lucy” production staff, including hairstylist Irma Kusely, prop master Kenneth Westcott, costumer Renita Reachi, production manager William Maginetti, and script supervisor Dorothy Aldworth.
Tumblr media
Location shooting was done at the (then) newly opened MGM Grand Hotel in Las Vegas. Scenes set inside the Cactus Flower Motel were shot at Paramount Studios in Hollywood. This is the second time Lucille Ball has shot on location in Las Vegas, the first being at Caesars for “Happy Anniversary and Goodbye.” Although episodes of her television shows were set in the city, actor doubles and second unit footage were used while Ball remained in Hollywood.
Tumblr media
Dean Martin's name was seen on the marquee of the Riviera Hotel when Lucy Carter went to Las Vegas in 1970's “Lucy and Wayne Newton” (HL S2;E22, above), three years before the MGM Grand was built. Lucille Ball first used location footage of Las Vegas in “Lucy Hunts Uranium” (LDCH 1958). Lucy Carmichael also visited the town in 1965's “Lucy Goes to Vegas” (TLS S3;E17), however no establishing or location footage was shot, and the episode was filmed entirely on the Desilu soundstage in Hollywood.
Tumblr media
The show opens with a montage of the the Las Vegas strip that includes the marquees of the Caesars Palace, the Flamingo, the Frontier, the Stardust, the Sands, and the Dunes, before ending on the exterior of the MGM Grand. This montage is an aerial view at night, instead of the daytime street view in “Lucy and Wayne Newton” (HL S2;E22).
Tumblr media
The MGM Grand opened as one of Las Vegas's first mega resorts on December 5, 1973. Dean Martin was the entertainer on opening night. It was the largest hotel in the world at its opening and would remain so for several years. “The Dean Martin Celebrity Roasts” were filmed at the hotel. The property was sold in 1986 and the name was changed to Bally's. The MGM Grand name was transferred to the former Marina Hotel, now known as MGM Grand Las Vegas.
Tumblr media
When Lucy Collins arrives at the MGM Grand with suitcases in hand, she walks through the casino and down their 'Hall of Fame' lined with illuminated posters of movie stars. The soundtrack plays a wistful  version of “Hooray for Hollywood.”
Tumblr media
Lucy pauses at posters of Spencer Tracy and Katherine Hepburn;
She blows kisses to Cary Grant, whose poster is alongside Grace Kelly.
She gazes lovingly at photos of Frank Sinatra, Fred Astaire and Ginger Rogers. Rogers played herself on a 1971 episode of “Here's Lucy.”
Lucy does a 'ha-cha-cha-cha' in front of a poster of Jimmy Durante, who Lucy Ricardo disguised herself as in “Lucy Meets Harpo Marx” (ILL S4;E28). Durante later did a brief cameo on a 1966 “Lucy Show.”
Tumblr media
In a meta moment, Lucy Collins then stops and primps her hair in front of a poster of Lucille Ball!  Lucy Carter also stood before a poster of Lucille Ball in “Lucy and the Andrews Sisters” (HL S2;E6) and later shared scenes with movie star Ball in “Lucy Carter Meets Lucille Ball” (HL S6;E22).  Although her recent film Mame had been released by Warner Brothers, Lucille Ball had done several films with MGM, like The Long, Long Trailer (1954) and Forever Darling (1956).
Tumblr media
Walking out the employees back entrance and trekking through the desert, it becomes clear that Lucy was only using the MGM Grand lobby as a shortcut to get to her actual lodgings, the Cactus Flower Motel, managed by her friend Gladys (Vanda Barra).
Lucy: (about her dress choices for Dean Martin's opening night) “The other one is older, but its got a Gucci label.” Gladys: “You have an outfit from Gucci?”  Lucy: “No. Just the label.”
Tumblr media
In the MGM Grand coffee shop having a cup of tea in a back booth, Dean Martin sings a few bars of “Volare,” a song written by Franco Migliacci and Domenico Modugno. Martin was one of the first to cover the song in 1958. His orchestra will reprise the song at the end of the special while Lucy and Martin dance.
Tumblr media
When Lucy phoned for a reservation for Dean Martin's opening night, she lied and said there'd be eight guests. Talking to Antonio the maître d' she must now make excuses for the absence of the seven others.
Mr. and Mrs. Winters are expecting a baby;
Mr. and Mrs. Nichols, Mrs. Winters mother and father, naturally won't be coming either;
Mabel and Henry, Mr. Winters mother and father also aren't coming because of the baby;
Gregory is Mrs. Winters doctor, so he also won't be there;
So it is just Lucy.
Unfortunately, Antonio won't give Lucy a table for one!
Tumblr media
Lucy: “I have been a fan of yours from bobby socks to suphose.” Dean Martin: “Do you think those suphose would help my problem?” Lucy: “What's your problem?” Dean Martin: “I fall down a lot.”
Tumblr media
Lucy Collins gets a job as a cocktail waitress and causes chaos at the roulette tables. Lucy Ricardo had some luck (then lost it all) playing roulette in “Lucy Goes to Monte Carlo” (ILL S5;E25). In 1965, Lucy Carmichael had some luck (then lost it all) playing roulette in “Lucy Goes to Vegas” (TLS S3;E17).
Tumblr media
The character of Max Siegel (credited as Vogel) is likely named for gangster Bugsy Siegel, who was primarily responsible for the development of the Vegas strip in the 1950s. The fact that Max is being played by Bruce Gordon, famous for playing real-life gangster Frank Nitti on Desilu's “Untouchables,” pretty much assures the comparison. Naturally, Lucy overhears Siegel and his friends talking about “busted up dolls” and thinks they are talking about women, as the term was often used for females in the Damon Runyon musical Guys and Dolls.
Tumblr media
Max Siegel's gambling buddy is played by Paul Picerni, another “Untouchables” alumni. His character name is Packy West, which is an obscure reference to Lucy's pal Bob Hope. In July 1919, a 16-year-old Hope entered the Ohio State Boxing Amateurs tournament under the name “Packy East,” a nod to light and welterweight boxer Patrick “Packy” McFarland and Hope's own school, “East” High.
Tumblr media
A chase sequence involving Lucy and Max Siegel's gambling buddies ends up backstage at “Hallelujah Hollywood,” a lavish stage show conceived, produced, and directed by Don Arden, It was a 3 million dollar tribute to classic MGM Hollywood musicals which played The Ziegfeld Room (which at the time was the largest stage in the world, with the largest backstage area in the world), at the MGM Grand Hotel in Las Vegas. The show opened in 1974, and ran until 1980. Its flamboyant finale was a tribute to the Ziegfeld Follies, featuring The Grand Stairway and The Great Ziegfeld Walk. The show featured over a 700 costumes (designed by Ray Aghayan and Bob Mackie). Lucille Ball played a lavishly attired Ziegfeld showgirl in the 1946 MGM film Ziegfeld Follies.
Tumblr media
On stage with Lucy in the front row, Dean sings “Everybody Loves Somebody,” a song written in 1947 by Sam Coslow, Irving Taylor. Although it had been recorded by others, it was Dean Martin’s 1964 recording that hit #1 on the Billboard Pop Charts. He also sang it in “Lucy Dates Dean Martin” (TLS S4;E21, above). He then launches into “Tie a Yellow Ribbon 'Round the Old Oak Tree” written by Irwin Levine and L. Russell Brown in early 1973. It was a #1 hit for Tony Orlando and Dawn. The song was referred to by Steve Lawrence (but not sung) in “Lucy, the Peacemaker” (HL S6;E3).
This Date in Lucy History - March 1
Tumblr media
“Home Movies” (ILL S3;E20) – March 1, 1954
Tumblr media
“Lucy and the Old Mansion” (TLS S3;E22) – March 1, 1965
Tumblr media
This is one of the best post-”Lucy” outings of Lucille Ball's career. The reason is simple: She sticks close to what she does best – and she does it without the cloying addition of a laugh track. Had she decided to call the character Lucy Carter instead of Lucy Collins, it might well have been billed as a “Here's Lucy” special.  As Lucy Carmichael, she did a similar filmed special titled “Lucy in London” during “The Lucy Show.”  Lucy Carmichael dated Dean Martin for one episode, so it would only have worked with Lucy Carter. Perhaps Ball thought people wouldn't remember “Here's Lucy” a year later. But whatever she's named, this special gives us old school, celebrity-hunting, anything-goes, Lucy and it is terrific!
Choose your top 5 shows (in no particular order): The first character I fell in love with: The character I never expected to love as much as I do now: The character everyone else loves that I don’t particularly like: The character I’m most like: My five favorite characters:
Because this is All-Alias, I’m totally doing this with just Alias (it obviously takes all five of my top show slots)
First Character I fell In Love With: Will Tippin. I loved him from the very beginning because he loved Syd so much, and he cared about her so much, that he put himself in mortal danger multiple times, and then all of a sudden, it was this quest for truth, and he was always just trying to do what was right. I always thought he was pretty badass without it being obvious.
Character I never expected to love as much as I do now: Lauren Reed. She always struck me as the pathetic type of woman who was just trying to keep her husband, until we found out she was extremely wicked and everything she does is for an actual reason (working for the other side). I never expected to like her, but I absolutely love the way Melissa George plays everyone as Lauren Reed, it’s so fantastic and twisted, it’s awesome.
The character everyone loves that I don’t particularly like: Francie Calfo. Sorry, I really am, but, she was struck me as this whiny chick who could never get her shit together. I liked Alison, pretending to be Francie, but Francie wasn’t my favourite. I know she was Syd’s best friend but, she was more of a device than anything else to show how Syd was hiding things from her friends etc., however her dad knew, the person she always went to first (Vaughn) knew, eventually Will knew too, so I think they could’ve had a better way of showing this than using Francie, but I did like Alison.
The character I’m most like: Sydney Bristow. I’m not even shitting you, fall down seven times, stand up eight. One thing goes right in my life and then three go wrong, and I always manage to get through it.
My five favourite characters:(I’m not going to include anyone mentioned above for the sake of repetition)
1. Noah Hicks - I know, I know a lot of people hated him but I’ve read all the prequels and the backstory, and the truth is he’s the first man she ever fell in love with during her training, and I adored their story, everything up to the way it ended. This was one of my favourite storylines.2. Julian Sark - I’m sorry how can you not love him? I love my bad boys, I really do and Sark, even though he has a heart at times, is just the bad boy that always gets away. He’s snippy, and quick, and witty and he always has a remark. Fantastic dialogue on his part. David Anders did a wicked job with the character and every time I see him, I scream “SARRKK!!”3. Jack Bristow - The end. The very end. The last scene where he forever traps Sloane in a cave. He will forever be spy daddy to me. I can’t even begin to describe why I love him, because no one has that kind of time.4. Anna Espinosa - If I ever see Gina Torres in the street I will seriously get on my knees and praise her for the way she played Anna Espinosa. Holy shit BAMF.
5. Andrian Lazarey - This might be a shocking one, but I adored this man and how much he did trying to help Syd as Julian. This was a fantastic plot line start to finish and I did sob like a baby when he died.
*I didn’t put vaughn on here because I obviously love him as a character and i wanted to expand on other characters*
Happy National Sisters Day!
For some of us, our sisters are our first friends and our innate partners in crime. They know where we come from and where we’re going — and through our shared experiences, we may relate to each other in ways that no one else can. While our parents know us from the very beginning, with our siblings we may embark on and share our journeys together. They’re the contemporaries who lovingly challenge us to be our very best, and stay by us through thick and thin.
youtube
Today just happens to be both National Sisters Day and National Friendship Day — a perfect opportunity to celebrate the friends we call our sisters, the sisters who are also our friends, and everything in between!
Before coming to Farm Sanctuary, most of our rescued residents faced cruelty or neglect. Having never before experienced kindness at human hands, they don’t know what to expect. In time, however, most come to understand that we are here to help. Some warm up to us and seek our friendship; others remain wary of humans and simply tolerate our presence. But no matter who they choose to spend their time with, we’re thankful to be able to give them the opportunity to do so on their own terms. Some of our residents arrive with their families; others form new families at sanctuary — but either way, the close bonds they share with their fellow residents help them to heal.
Tumblr media
The girls upon rescue.
Such was the case with Hope and Dana — sisters rescued from the brink of death, whose love and support for each other helped them survive and thrive! When we met these sweet girls, they were emaciated, weak, and anemic — fighting for their lives. They were very young and not yet weaned, but their mother was nowhere in sight; we can only assume that she either passed away due to the terrible conditions or was slaughtered for meat. But despite all of this, Hope and Dana had each other — and once safe and recovering at Farm Sanctuary, they could finally embrace the beautiful lives they were born to have.
Tumblr media
Getting a fresh start at Farm Sanctuary.
These days, the girls are thriving at our New York Shelter! They’ve made plenty of friends — goat, sheep, and “humanimal” alike! — but they are also never far from one another, and their bond helps them each shine as the special individuals they are.
Tumblr media
The girls are each other’s favorite playmates!
The same can be said for Sarah and Clare — two sweet sheep sisters who’ve had each other’s backs from the very beginning.
Tumblr media
The sisters shortly after their rescue.
One day last year, we got a call about two “lambs on the lam”; after local animal control officers found the pair wandering loose in a New Jersey suburb, they contacted Farm Sanctuary friend and collaborator Mike Stura of Skylands Animal Sanctuary & Rescue, and he brought the girls to Farm Sanctuary.
Tumblr media
They were understandably frightened when they arrived, but here, they’ve found a home, and a family that loves them unconditionally. Here, the girls are free to be themselves — and it’s interesting to see how perfectly unique they each are!
Tumblr media
Sarah’s become quite outgoing, and paws at her human friends for attention. Meanwhile, Clare is more reserved and prefers the company of her sheep friends. We love that they each feel comfortable enough to be true to themselves: no longer lost, but free to live the beautiful lives they’ve found.
Tumblr media
And despite their differences, they will always have each other!
Tumblr media
Not all of our residents have difficult pasts; a few were born here and have always received the care and love they deserve. While we never breed, we do sometimes rescue animals who are pregnant, and we love giving them the opportunity to raise and care for their babies in safety.
Tumblr media
Maggie and Liza are two of 16 piglets born to mom Julia — a former breeding sow who was rescued from extreme cruelty on a factory farm. Julia spent most of her life in a tiny gestation crate — bred repeatedly to produce piglets for slaughter, yet never permitted to nurture the babies she longed to love and care for. As her delivery date approached, factory farm workers moved her to a slightly larger farrowing crate to give birth — and beat her ruthlessly as she resisted this move and the heartache that would come with it. Thankfully, a worker recorded and reported this abuse, and when we learned about Julia, we gladly welcomed her to Farm Sanctuary.
Tumblr media
Here, she gave birth to her babies in peace — finally free to raise her family and live the beautiful lives they deserve.
Tumblr media
Maggie and Liza remain especially close to this day — often eating, sleeping, and relaxing side by side!
Tumblr media
Liza, the braver of the two, always looks out for her sister — and Maggie is never far behind her beloved sister and friend.]
Tumblr media
Similarly, Lulu and Min goats were born at our New York Shelter after we rescued their mom, Aretha, from a backyard butcher in New York’s Hudson Valley (the same rescue where we met Hope and Dana).
Tumblr media
Understandably, Aretha was quite terrified when she arrived — but after giving birth to her twin daughters, she began to realize that we had all of their best interests at heart.
Tumblr media
Since Lulu and Min have only known care and kindness, they have loved being around people from the very start — and their joy and enthusiasm has helped their mother heal and move beyond the cruelty in her past.
Tumblr media
These days, Lulu and Min are much bigger than mom,but  they remain her little girls, and the family is never far apart.
Tumblr media
These playful, spunky twins are taking life by the horns, and we’re thrilled to watch them grow and thrive together.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Sometimes, it’s natural for sisters to “butt heads” — but at the end of the day, there’s nothing but love between us.
Tumblr media
Farm Sanctuary life brings ample opportunities for our rescued residents to be themselves — valued just as they are. Before coming to our Northern California Shelter, Dolly sheep faced cruelty, neglect, and finally, abandonment — likely bred for years before she was no longer deemed useful, and then discarded. Fortunately, some kind friends intervened and she was able to come to Farm Sanctuary — where she gave birth to daughters Elizabeth and Zuri.
Tumblr media
Elizabeth, like her mom, has always been shy and reserved, while extroverted Zuri loves being the life of the party!
Tumblr media
But as different as they are, the two remain peas in a pod: sisters and best friends enjoying their beautiful lives together. We’re so happy that here, each girl can be the remarkable individual she is.
Tumblr media
Last year, we rescued Zepha sheep from a property that was advertised as a “humane” farm-to-table operation in Cattaraugus County, NY. In reality, however, the conditions for these animals were far from humane. Sheep like Zepha spent their entire lives indoors, raised to breed lambs for slaughter. Zepha had only known fear and loss — but her daughters Cindy and Laura, born in safety at Farm Sanctuary after her rescue, will spend their entire lives knowing nothing but the care and love they deserve.
Tumblr media
While the girls take their cue from mom and remain a bit on the shy side, they continue to warm up to us little by little.
Tumblr media
Ingrid and Marilyn goats were also born at our New York Shelter following the rescue of their parents, Patrick and Delilah, from cruelty and neglect. Patrick and Delilah were both very sick and had severe leg issues that had been left untreated; Patrick crawled on his knees while Delilah walked painfully on her fetlocks. But here, they received the love and care they needed.
Tumblr media
Delilah was able to give birth to her girls in safety and was an amazing mom. (As Patrick grew stronger, he also grew rowdier, and lived for a time with another herd because he was a bit too rough and rambunctious for his little family.)
Tumblr media
With their doting mom by their side, Ingrid and Marilyn explored Farm Sanctuary life together.
Tumblr media
But their family was not quite complete. Around the same time, we took in another kid, Maxie, after the local SPCA reached out to us about her situation. We gladly welcomed Maxie to our New York Shelter — and within a few weeks, we introduced her to a new family of her very own.
Tumblr media
Maxie, Ingrid, Delilah, and Marilyn.
Delilah and the girls took to Maxie immediately, and the trio of babies became honorary sisters.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
These days, following Delilah’s passing, the girls live with dad Patrick (who’s calmed his rowdy ways) and remain as inseparable as ever.
Inseparable sisters: From front, Ingrid, Maxie, and Marilyn.
Sometimes, our families are chosen rather than determined by biology. Such is the case with Junip Sydney and Von D — piglets who came to us separately, but joined forces at our Southern California Shelter.
youtube
Junip was born at a petting zoo, the runt of the litter, and she was failing to thrive. After local community members took her in and nursed her back to health, they couldn’t bear the thought of sending her back to the farmer to be raised for slaughter. Similarly, Von D was born on a pig farm and would have been raised for meat — but the farmer’s relatives intervened to keep her from this fate. Safe at Farm Sanctuary, these girls are now living the beautiful lives they deserve —  together!
Tumblr media
They have been inseparable since the day they met, each claiming the other as soul sister and very best friend.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
From all of us at Farm Sanctuary, happy National Sisters Day and National Friendship Day!
