Izzy and Magnus do Youtube
Honestly, I just like some Magnus&Izzy bffs shenanigans. Just imagine the two of them getting it into their heads that doing Youtube videos together would be a good idea. First thing they do is a baking video. Turns out that without his magic (which is strictly forbidden for the making of videos) Magnus is just as bad in the kitchen as Isabelle. There is at least one flour explosion, one fire, a few minor injuries (someone slipping on the buttery floor and things like that) and the smoke alarm going off multiple times. When they are done, they are disheveled and covered in ingredients, while they make everyone else taste their cupcakes. Which are horrible. Magnus and Izzy plan a new video for next week. Alec starts researching runes for a stronger stomach.

Oh, my heart
Okay, so Alec and Clary had a genuinely terrible relationship at the beginning of the Mortal Instruments. Which was fair enough, because to Alec, Clary was an intruder and to Clary, Alec hated Downworlders and was just, like, plain rude to her.
But Alec hugged Clary - I literally ran around the room jumping up and down in excitement - after she and Jace put his Heavenly Fire in the sword, and The Land I Lost had excellent Alec and Clary friendship content.
But their relationship was genuinely hostile enough that it was one of the first things Simon remembered.
And then. . . Clary's worried because Alec likes to believe the best in people?? Can you imagine City of Bones Clary ever thinking like that??
Their friendship and dynamic is so awesome. People think Mortal Instruments was a lot worse than Clare's other works but the relationships - including the obvious romantic relationships - are so well done. Clary and Simon, of course, are BFF goals, the Lightwood siblings are sweethearts the few times we see all four together, Jace and Alec's parabatai relationship, Alec and Izzy's big brother little sister dynamic, Clary and Maia's slow moving acquaintance to friendship, Clary and Luke's father-daughter relationship, Simon and Luke and Jace and Luke for that matter, Simon and Maia's friends to lovers to friends, Clary and Isabelle's burgeoning friendship, Simon and Jordan's mentor-mentee to friends relationship with the thrown in Jace, Alec and Clary's annoyance to affection journey and Simon and George and Simon and Jace's friendship and brotherhood in Tales from Shadowhunter Academy.
Alec's character arc is genuinely so freaking amazing, and I'm crying about it. From the mostly hostile introvert in the closet to a loyal and quiet but friendly parabatai, brother, husband, father, friend and Consul.
"Alec is actually at the start the most conservative of the Lightwoods. As Alec progresses through the books, he does become less and less like that — he insults vampires in CoFA and then brings himself up short — and in the Bane Chronicles we do see him confronting his feelings about Downworlders seriously, but also for the first time (both with Magnus and the werewolf he meets later in the club). Obviously his relationship with Magnus has a lot to do with him realizing that you can’t force the prejudiced to accept you (though you can hopefully enforce change through changing laws) and you need to accept yourself, be proud of yourself and love yourself. Which I think has been Alec’s arc all along."
And I think we love Secrets of Blackthorn Hall so much that we forget its actual format. Emma actually trusts Cristina so much that she writes about a private conversation with one of her dearest friends and confidants. And Clary and Isabelle and Isabelle and Maia and Lucie and Cordelia and Clary and Maia and Tessa and Sophie and Tessa and Cecily are amazing but this is probably the truest and easiest female friendship dynamics in The Shadowhunter Chronicles.
From City of Bones, from Clockwork Angel, from Bane Chronicles, from Tales from Shadowhunter Academy, from Lady Midnight, when we were introduced - or re-introduced - to these incredibly real-life, multi dimensional and beautiful characters, they're all mostly adults and figuring their way out through life after all the terrors they've been through with these wonderful relationships.

It's me again :D 1. How seriously amazing is your header? I'm so very in love with it, I've been staring at your tumblr page for 5 minutes :DDD 2. I've started to read your number prompts and they are all so cute
And for the anon who asked: Can I have 17 written?Hi sweetie!
First of all: THANK YOU SO MUCH! Seriously, I tend to go back to this message and just get this incredibly goofy smile on my face. You’re seriously so damn sweet, thank you so much for, well for liking the things I write basically. It seriously means the world.
Second of all: This one got really long and since my day fucked up entirely and I won’t have time to write the last 1000 words right now, I thought I’d post it in chapters (hopefully I’ll be able to post chapter two tomorrow - since it’s almost finished - so you won’t have to wait long at all, please forgive me!)
Anyway, here’s chapter one! I hope it was at least somewhat along the lines of what you wanted (It takes place in the shadow-world still, but in this story Magnus and Alec didn’t meet because of Clary…):
You can read it on AO3 HERE if you’d like to!
17. “Looks like we’ll be trapped for a while…”
Isabelle frowned when she walked into the dark loft. Magnus and her had decided to meet up for lunch two hours prior and when the warlock hadn’t shown up, Isabelle had assumed he’d gotten caught up in work and forgotten about the time again. So she’d gone to his apartment to find him, but seeing the empty space had her instantly worried. It wasn’t all that unusual for Magnus to forget about the time whenever he was caught up in some spell, but he was a gentleman and if he would be out of his apartment for work and risked being late, then he’d always make sure to tell whoever he was meeting up with as much.
She’d met the High Warlock of Brooklyn at a downworlder party she’d gone to for her previous boyfriend, Meliorn, a few months back and their mutual interests in both fashion and science (as Magnus had explained - mixing potions wasn’t all that different from what she was doing in her lab) had the two of them instantly clicking. Despite the night having ended with a breakup for her, after she found Meliorn in bed with two vampires, she’d still considered it a success after Magnus had invited her over to his loft for drinks to “celebrate her getting rid of the trash”, as he’d called it. Although they both knew that the Seelie had never made any promises of exclusivity to the Shadowhunter, Isabelle had still found herself appreciating the supportive sentiment. They’d been best friends ever since.
Which was why she knew something most definitely wasn’t right with the picture before her.
Picking up her phone from her pocket, Isabelle dialed Magnus’ number and waited for the dial-tone, praying to the Angel that he’d pick up - Only to have the call cut off almost immediately. Her heart beating slightly in panic, she started looking around the loft for any indication to where her friend might be. After looking through the entire apartment without any results, she picked up a shirt to try tracking him. The light flared around her hands and an image of Magnus flashed before her eyes. He was in what looked to be a cage, shouting something she couldn’t hear. She tried to focus on getting a location, but before she could get so much as a hint, something slammed into the vision and it blinked out. With a curse, she stuffed the shirt into her bag and ran towards the institute.
She needed a stronger tracking.
***
“Alec, I need your help!”
Alec looked up from where he’d been planning out next week’s patrol-schedule and raised his eyebrows in question to his sister’s abrupt entrance.
“I thought you were having lunch with your friend?” he said, straightening up and looking his sister over. “What’s wrong?”
“I was, but something is wrong. He didn’t show up and he wasn’t at his apartment. I tried tracking him, but I got cut off by something. I need you and Jace to use your parabatai bond to track him”, Izzy explained and Alec knew better than to question his sister’s instincts. So he simply pushed off the table and started walking towards the training-room, where he knew Jace would be - especially since Raj had walked by earlier with a put-upon sigh that told the oldest Lightwood-sibling that his brother had roped the poor guy into training with him again.
“Sorry to interrupt guys”, he announced their presence when they walked in and almost smiled at the sight of Raj throwing Jace down on his back and pinning him with a knife to his throat before they both looked up at them.
“That”, Jace panted, his eyes on Raj’s smug face, “Does not count. Alec distracted me!”
The other man just huffed a laugh, helped him to his feet with a roll of his eyes and turned to Alec with a rise of his eyebrows.
“What’s up?” Jace voiced Raj’s unvoiced question.
“Izzy needs our help to track her friend, she thinks he might be in trouble”, Alec explained and Jace nodded as he started to remove his training-gloves and walked towards them.
“I could use a small break anyway, you want us to go out with you to find him too?” he said and Alec shook his head.
“No, it’s fine. I’ll go with Izzy to check it out, call you if we need backup. You should probably go make sure Clary’s doing okay with her rune-studies anyway, leave Raj alone for once?” He gave Jace a pointed look and Raj mouthed a ‘thank you’ to him from where he was packing away the knives they’d been using.
“I have some work I need to get done anyway. You can try to beat me some other time, Blondie”, he said as he walked past them out of the room, patting Jace on the shoulder. Alec shook his head at Jace’s frown as he watched his retreating form.
“Still beating you, huh?” Alec asked and Jace returned his eyes to his parabatai with an exasperated look that made the corner Alec’s mouth lift, amused.
“I don’t know how he does it, the man is a freaking ninja! I figure out how to block one move and he’s already on to the next. It’s insane!” he answered and Alec just shrugged at him in a ‘what can you do’-manner.
“As much as I enjoy this little fanboy-moment of yours, Jace, we need to hurry up. Magnus is in trouble and I need to get to him”, Izzy spoke up, thrusting the shirt she’d brought towards them and Alec went into mission-mode as he grabbed the shirt along with Jace’s hand and started focusing on tracking the warlock.
The familiar feeling of Jace’s energy surged through him as the light swirled around their joined hands and a blurry picture opened up in his mind. He could make out the siluett of a man sitting cross-legged in a leaf-filled cell, light coming from somewhere above him. Magnus, Alec assumed as there didn’t seem to be anyone else around. He redirected his focus from the image to get a feel of where this cell was when a force slammed into him and both him and Jace grabbed the other tighter as they fought it to stay on the track. A symbol on the side of the cell caught Alec’s eye and as Jace gave his hand a small tug, he knew his parabatai had seen it to. Breathing out slowly, he felt Jace’s energy leave and slowly opened his eyes as he let go of the other’s hand.
“He’s in the Seelie-realm, in a cell of some kind. Doesn’t seem hurt though, but you’re right - we should hurry to get him out”, he answered his sister’s questioning look before walking away to get changed.
***
Magnus Bane was bored out of his freaking mind. Bored and irritated. He’d been stuck in this cage for hours, unable to do anything but wait for someone to notice his absence and come save him. He really hoped Isabelle hadn’t left him a message to cancel their lunch, because unless she noticed that he was gone no one would come for him in the next 24 hours. The prospect of sitting in this muddy room, with his magic drained enough to keep him from breaking out, for an entire day had him letting out another groan and letting his head fall back against the wall.
“If someone could send me a knight in shining armor to save me, that’d be great”, he grumbled towards the man-sized hole in the roof where the light was being let in. It was too high up for him to reach and possibly escape from and Magnus wasn’t too keen on risking a broken ankle in trying either, so he simply stared longingly at it and wished for a grand rescue of some kind.
***
“We should split up, we’ll cover more ground that way”, Alec suggested and with a confirming nod from his sister he broke away to search for her friend. He wished he could say that it was a surprise to hear that the Seelies had thrown the High Warlock of Brooklyn into a cage for some reason, but considering that during Alec’s last meeting with the Seelie Queen, she’d been just about ready to do the same to him for not wanting to sleep with her, he really and truly wasn’t. Honestly, what was a surprise to him was how the rest of the faerie-folk were still accepting her as their leader. If Valentine and his people were what gave the Shadowhunters a bad reputation, then people like the Seelie Queen most definitely was what gave downworlders theirs. He’d discussed the matter of damaging downworlder-leaders with Luke and Raphael a few days prior, and the two of them had suggested they’d bring in the High Warlock to their monthly meetings, since he apparently had the most sway over the downworld as a whole.
Alec had never met Magnus Bane, but from what he’d heard about the man he seemed like a good person with a rather wild reputation. The latter was just from what he’d been told by his parents though. Izzy had protested wildly as they’d argued that her new best friend was, in their father’s words: ‘Somewhat of a lothario who is nowhere near fitting for a young shadowhunter woman to be socializing with’, and Alec couldn’t blame her. Especially since his father, who followed Valentine blindly for years, most certainly wasn’t in any position to judge anyone else. Alec sometimes thought back to how he’d viewed downworlders only two years earlier, before befriending Luke and Raphael after Clary had stumbled into their lives and turned it upside down, and felt ashamed of his past self. He hadn’t known better at that time, of course, but that didn’t change the fact that he’d thought of himself as above so many people when he’d had no right to.
Stepping over a few fallen branches, Alec surveyed the area around him, trying to see if anything looked even the slightest familiar to what he’d seen in his tracking-vision. It was no use though, they’d been forced to leave the vision too soon and hadn’t had a chance to see anything above ground from where the warlock was held. Alec heaved a frustrated sigh and continued moving forward at a swift speed.
He didn’t even make it another two yards before something sounded behind him and Alec whirled around, bow drawn and at the ready, only to be immediately blinded by a flash of light so bright he had to shield his eyes. In the shock he took a step backwards, and where he was certain there had been solid ground just a second before, were now nothing but air. With a surprised scream, Alec fell through the gaping hole in the ground.
***
Magnus looked up with a frown at the bright flash above him, just a second before something - or rather someone- fell through the hole in the roof of his cell with a scream and landed right in the middle of the little room. The man looked up towards the hole with a frown, obviously cursing its existence, before rubbing slightly at where he’d landed on his hip, grimacing slightly.
“I’m not at my full power because of the stupid wards on this place, but I’m pretty sure I could heal that for you if you want?”, Magnus spoke, rising and walking towards the man, surveying him calmly as he did so.
He seemed to finally notice that he hadn’t fallen into an empty cell and snapped his eyes up towards Magnus’ voice. The warlock felt his breath catch as the light from the roof-opening hit them, making them appear almost golden, but gathered himself quickly and reached out his hand with a gesture towards the man’s hip.
“So? You want some help with that, then?” he prompted, with a rise of his brows. That appeared to be enough to shake him out of where he’d been outright staring blatantly at Magnus - obviously still surprised that there was someone else in this stupid cell, not that Magnus could blame him all that much for that - and he started rummaging through his pockets until he finally drew a stele from one of them.
Ah, a shadowhunter then, Magnus thought and finally noticed the rune running up the man’s neck as he bent over to activate his Iratze.
“Or you can do that, I guess” he mumbled and dropped his hand before returning to sit against the wall. When the man had finished healing his hip, he returned his gaze to Magnus, cocking his head slightly to the side, and the warlock was once again struck how gorgeous this man truly was. In the shadows, his eyes appeared almost green and Magnus reached his hand out again:
“Well, if we’re going to be stuck down here together, I feel like we should at the very least know each other’s name. I’m..”
The man rose slightly from his seat to grab Magnus’ hand this time as he interrupted.
“Magnus Bane, yeah I know. I’m actually…” he started, before looking around, a frown etched on his face once again.
“Uhm… Well, I’m here to… To rescue you, actually. I came with my sister, she was worried when you didn’t show up for lunch and…” he looked at Magnus again and, to the warlock’s delight, seemed to forget what he was talking about the second their eyes met. Magnus raised his eyebrows in question at the statement and hummed in acknowledgement before he spoke:
“As much as I appreciate the whole ‘handsome knight in a not-so-very-white and shining armor coming to my rescue’, they usually tend to avoid falling into the cage with the princess. Well, prince in this case”, he teased and smiled as a blush rose on the other’s cheeks.
“Yeah, that’s… That wasn’t exactly part of the plan”, the man admitted and Magnus squeezed his hand where he was still holding on to it, dragging him slightly towards him to lean against the wall instead of sitting in the middle of the room. The shadowhunter followed without complaint and Magnus smiled to himself at that.
“Well, since it looks like we’ll be trapped here for a while why don’t you…” he started and then the man’s words from earlier registered with him and he looked up at him with a huge smile blooming freely on his lips.
“Wait, did you say sister? Isabelle sent you? She’s here?” he asked, more than excited about the prospect of the man not being all alone on this rescue-mission.
“Yeah, we split up and she went the other way. I… I’m not entirely sure when she’ll be here though”, the man confirmed and then muttered something about hoping she was smarter than him and didn’t accidentally fall in here with them too. Magnus cocked his head as he regarded this new information. Isabelle had told him she had three brothers and looking at the man before him he registered the physical attributes his friend had used to describe them all with. He hummed slightly to himself before saying:
“Tall, dark hair, gorgeous hazel-eyes and a preference for the bow… You must be Alexander then?” he purred and the blush on the man’s cheeks deepened furiously.
“Alec”, the man - Alec Lightwood apparently - corrected him with a nod.
***A/N: I hope you like it thus far and I’ll try to hurry up and get chapter two up for you by tomorrow! Also: I’m writing some other fluffy malec-things that were supposed to be posted during the day, but since my day just got completely fucked up they might have to wait until the weekend… ugh, life! Sorry! If you have any prompt you’d like to send me (or simply share your thoughts on some matter), my ask-box is always open! If you’d like to give me one of the number-prompts, then you can find the different numbers HERE!

I honestly find it difficult to care about ANY character in shadowhunters except magnus.
• Idr hate clary as much as the fandom does but she IS kind of boring and the typical YA protagonist.
• Jace is just...whipped for clary wfor no no particular reason?? I get that he relates to clarys situation and wants to help but like?? Bro?? You barely know her and she doesn't know shit about the shadow world tf are u doing? 😭
• Alec is fine ig, I relate to him and actually understand him and he's actually pretty ok-ish as a character but I need to see more of him.
• izzy is just...there. she is mediocre as well but she's fine?? Idrk
• Simon was actually the only rational character at the beginning and damn, I feel extremely sorry for him. But he feels really trope-y (mc's male BFF who's in love with her but she chooses the brooding bad boi over him).
• Magnus is just *chefs kiss*. I really like him and his sass, how fabulous he is, his diva complex, it's all just so entertaining to watch. I want to see him more outside being Alecs LI.

If they don't give us the Alec/Aline Brotp we deserve and waited for, and give them lots of scenes together then .. I'll sue them bc what is even the point? You can't bring Aline onto the show and not let Alec and her form the gay squad™ and have them roll their eyes and shit talk every single one of those annoying hets with their constant relationship drama that nobody cares for (looking at you Jace .. and also Clary) while they look and simply are better than everyone .. I need and want that!!

I would love to read a fic with warlock!Alec who was born to his shadowhunter family but with magic- and of course falls hopelessly in love with the high warlock of brooklyn ;) maybe Alec has been trying to hide his magic? I just love your writing a lot and would love to read a fic like this in your style!
OH GOSH I WANNA WRITE THIS BUT IT WOULD BE LIKE A 100K FIC AND I WANNA WRITE SOME OF THE AMAZING OTHER PROMPTS I HAVE TOO!!  So here’s a snip from what might be a fic like that if I was going to write one!!
So at this point - Alec has fallen head over heels for Magnus, but they’re not actually dating, he’s just crushing on Magnus from afar, but his magic wants Magnus and I decided the whole Lydia marriage plotline doesn’t exist because I said so and Alec and Lydia are running the institute together as BFFS.
~!~!~!~!~!~!~!~!~!~!~!~!~!~
“Jace get down!” Alec shouted, sliding under the swipe of claws coming at him from the Ravener demon.  The next arrow he fired had the dark swirl of gray snapping magic around it and the demon was incinerated an instant later and Alec had to pray that Magnus wasn’t paying enough attention to realize his magic wasn’t the only one being used in this fight.
Once he had an instant to breathe, Alec drew another two arrows and headed towards the flashes of blue and red magic he could see coming from where Magnus was fighting the demons coming out of the rift and trying to close it at the same time.
“Alec, we’re going to be overrun soon!” Izzy shouted, her whip snapping another Shax demon that goo close to him.
Alec panted and fired arrows into the two demons trying to crawl out of the rift.  Then another, then another.
“Alexander!” Magnus snapped.  “That isn’t working, and all it’s going to do is leave you unarmed in the very immediate future!  We need another warlock!”
Alec cursed and looked back at Izzy and then to Jace and then to Magnus who was looking at him in confusion.  His magic itched under his skin and he looked to Magnus helplessly.  He didn’t have enough knowledge and control over his power to be able to do what Magnus needed.
“Alec!” Izzy shouted, her whip thrashing through another two demons.  “Either now or never, or we need to retreat and call for backup!”
Alec bit down on his lip and stepped up next to Magnus, sheathing his bow and taking a deep breath.  Focus.  He had to focus and breathe.  He could do this.  Give the magic a task and put all of his focus into it.  Just like firing an arrow.
“Alexander-”
“I’ll hold it, you close it,” Alec snapped.  He didn’t look over at Magnus, but with another slow breath, magic, shades of silver and gray, sprang to his fingertips and he narrowed his eyes, staring at the portal.  A net.  A net to hold them back while Magnus closed the portal.  He heard Magnus call his name again, but he threw his magic forward with a grunt, wrapping the net around it.
Magnus had trailed many young warlocks, and feeling Alec’s magic surrounding the rift, he could see just how young it was, how it was still growing, and had so much more room for him to improve.  It wasn’t strong enough to do what he was attempting, but his magic was responding to the strength of Alec’s will and Magnus ached at the sight of it.
“Magnus!” Alec snapped, feeling a demon hit the net, grunting under the pressure of holding it back.  “Hurry!”
Magnus turned all of his focus back to closing the rift, pouring magic into it, stitching it back together, piece by piece, even as he felt Alec pushing more magic at the net he’d built, draining himself down to the dregs to be able to keep the demons out.  “Alexander!”
When Alec didn’t answer the the net around the rift started to flicker, Magnus stepped up to the rift and shoved a wave of power through it, destroying the demons and pushing them back before he closed it the rest of the way, falling back to the ground.
“Magnus!  Get to Alec!” Jace shouted.  “I can’t feel him!”
“Shit,” Magnus muttered, struggling to his feet, even as his legs felt like jelly, making his way over to the prone shadowhunter, scrambling to kneel next to Alec, reaching for his neck. His pulse was thin but thready, and he’d almost burned out his core of magic.  “We’ve, I’ve got to get him back to my loft.”
The sound of demons being killed finally faded around him and Magnus got Alec sitting upright and cradled against him, carefully combing his fingers through his hair.  His magic was already protective of Alec, curling around him even more so now that it could feel the seed of magic deep within him.
“Is, is he going to be okay?” Isabelle asked, her voice worried as she stared at Magnus.  Alec was pale, his face drained of color.
“When,” Magnus panted, looking up at her, summoning a portal with effort.  “When you don’t have control over your magic and can use it effectively, your only option is just to use the brute force strength of it.”  He stood and with another grunt, picked up Alexander and carried him to the portal, stepping through and into his loft, feeling the two shadowhunters follow him.
He got Alec laid out on the couch and hurried to his apothecary, grabbing two bottles before hurrying back over to Alec.
“What are those?” Jace snapped.  He watched Magnus pour one into Alec’s mouth and pinch his nose and lips shut to make him swallow.
“Are you really going to yell at me when I’m making sure that your brother isn’t in a coma?” Magnus snapped, yanking the stopper out of the second potion before repeating the process.  Once he was done, he tossed the bottles away, glad that Jace and Isabelle were both quiet.  He gathered magic into his hand, cursing under the strain before he shoved his hand against Alec’s chest, kickstarting the recovery of his magic.
Alec jack knifed upright and his eyes were wide as he stared at Magnus slumping in relief next to the couch, his chest and throat aching, Jace and Isabelle standing in the middle of the room.  He sagged back against the couch with a groan.  Now everyone knew.  Fuck.
Magnus looked over at Jace and Isabelle.  “Both of you go back - make some sort of excuse for Alexander.  He’ll need to stay the night.”
Jace scowled.  “What, why?”
Magnus sighed in frustration and turned to glare at the shadowhunters, his magic snapping angrily around him.  “Because I am High Warlock and I’ve just discovered there is a shadowhunter warlock in my jurisdiction that I knew nothing about.  Like it or not this is something I need to address with Alec, as well as his training - which he is welcome to share with you, after I discuss it with him.”
Alec watched Izzy and Jace step through the portal Magnus summoned for them, meeting both of their eyes, trying to reassure them with a nod, before he was alone with Magnus, who was looking at him with intent eyes.
“Your warlock mark?” Magnus asked with a raised eyebrow.  “You are a warlock, I’m assuming?  Which says things about Maryse Lightwood I certainly never needed to know.”
Alec swallowed and looked down at his hands and swallowed before spitting out a single word.  “Valentine.”
Magnus froze and then pinched the bridge of his nose.  “Of course.  Monster.  I’m sorry, please excuse my insensitivity.  I’m exhausted, worried about you, and trying to figure out what the hell we do from here.”
“You don’t need to worry about me,” Alec said, trying to sit up before everything started to swim in his vision and he sank back down on the couch.  “NNngh, fuck.”
“Yeah, magical depletion isn’t fun when you’ve learned to deal with it, let alone when you haven’t,” Magnus said, sitting next to the couch again.  “We need to start training you.  I’m amazed that you’ve been able to hide it so long.  Even more so that you’re actually able to hold runes.”
Alec swallowed and nodded.  “No one besides Jace, Izzy, and Mom know.  If they did, you can imagine...”
Magnus nodded.  “I can.  I understand why you’ve kept it a secret.  Do you glamour your mark?  Or is it something easier to hide?”
“It’s not a glamour.  It’s...a spell.  It keeps them hidden.  Sealed with a rune,” Alec said, shifting to take his shirt off.
Magnus raised his eyebrows.  “Don’t feel like you have to strip for me, darling,” he teased.
Alec snorted and rolled his shoulders and looked behind him.  “You’re going to want to add about ten feet of room behind me.”
Magnus’ eyes widened, but he shook his head.  “I can’t do that right now.  Magic is too low.  Come on, to the middle of the room.”  He helped Alec stand and brought him to the middle of the loft, even though now he could feel something gathering in Alec, his magic growing stronger by the second.  “Here good?  Or do you want to be outside?”
Alec shook his head.  “Here’s fine.”  He pulled his stele out and drew a rune on his arm and breathed out slowly, magic cackling around his back before he finally shifted, two large wings springing from his back.
Magnus stared in shock at the wings that must have been between ten and twelve feet each.  “How...how large is your wingspan?”
“Almost twenty five feet from tip to tip,” Alec said, rolling his shoulders again, reaching up to press at his shoulders.  It was always weird to feel his magic sinking into his muscles to augment the strength to actually carry and use the wings, but it only took a minute or two to get used to it.  Thankfully the extra release of the spell also released the rest of his magic.  “They’re spelled to be a tattoo on my back, and locked and glamoured with a rune.”
Magnus turned his attention back to Alec.  “Can you use them?”
Alec’s eyes slid from Magnus’ to the doors by the balcony.  “Open them,” he said, his voice soft.
Magnus’ breath caught and his eyes widened and in another instant they were blown open.  He watched Alec move around him and break into a run halfway through the loft, jumping into the air, his wings spread.  He raced out after Alec, only to watch Alec catch an updraft and soar up and past the building into the sky.  He circled the apartment building, riding the thermals easily enough until he was landing on the balcony with a slight stumble.
In another quick motion, Alec was sealing his wings away with a swipe of his stele and Magnus was still staring at him in shock.  “You can fly,” Magnus said, well-aware of how dumbfounded he sounded.
“Kinda,” Alec said, rolling his shoulders, unable to keep from grinning.  Flying always put him in a good mood.  “It’s harder here, there’s not as many thermals to catch.  Much easier around Alicante.”
Magnus blinked once, then twice, and gestured Alec back into the loft.  “We...have a lot to talk about.”
Alec flushed and walked back into the loft.  “What did you give me?  I don’t feel exhausted anymore.”
Magnus realized, far too late, that Alec was walking under his own power easily and didn’t seem to be carrying that same level of depleted magic he had only moments ago and he frowned.  “Nothing that should have made you recover that quickly.”  He blew out a hard breath.  “We have a lot to talk about.”
Alec sank down onto the couch.  “I hope...you’re not too angry?” he said, glancing up at Magnus.
Magnus shook his head.  “Angry, no.  I understand why you kept it a secret.  Confounded, confused, surprised and wondering where the hell we go from here?  Yes.”
Alec laughed and shook his head.  “Sounds easy enough.  So where do we start?”
Magnus summoned a drink for himself and sat down on the other end of the couch himself.  That was a great fucking question, and hell if he knew the answer.

magnus & the main characters interaction count: a study
an interaction counts as magnus talking specifically to 1 main and that main character responding, or vice versa. (you know like alec does with jace/ clary/ izzy in 95% of the episodes throughout the whole series and luke/ simon in half of s1 and s3.) an interaction is NOT where magnus addresses the group in general with no one responding to him directly, or him being in the same room with all of them, but they only talk to alec or to each other.
this count starts from 2b. s1/ 2a did NOT have anywhere close to an adequate amount, but at least there wasn’t so little that it was total joke like after that. the sad truth of this is so glaringly obvious when it’s listed.
plz take note this post is about magnus/ MAIN character interaction ONLY
and obviously this count is about the 6 mains other than alec
SEASON 2B
2x11: NONE
altho clary/ jace are in the room, they only talk to alec
2x12: NONE
2x13: NONE
2x14: 1 scene with luke
2x15: NONE
altho jace/ izzy are in the room, they don’t talk to him
2x16: NONE
he was not in the episode. he also was not in some episodes in s1. luke and maia have also not been in some.
clary, jace, alec, izzy, and simon have been in every episode. just saying.
2x17: 2 scenes with luke
2x18: 1 scene with luke
2x19: NONE
altho the shadowhunters/ luke are in the room, they don’t talk to him
side note: making literally everyone be against magnus/ glaring at him/ shading him behind his back after all he’s literally done for every single one of them was… a choice. they all didn’t seem to care that he was hurting.
2x20: 1 scene with izzy
final count:
6 episodes (over half the season) with NONE
2 episodes of only 1 scene interaction
only 1 episode where he interacts throughout, yet still only with 1 other main
only 3 scenes where he gets to talk to another main without alec there
no scene where he talks to another main and alec isn’t mentioned
SEASON 3A
3x01: NONE
3X02: NONE
altho shadowhunters/ luke are in the room, they only talk to alec
3X03: 1 scene with izzy
3x04: NONE
altho clary is in room, she only talks to alec
3x05: NONE
3x06: multiple scenes with clary
3x07: NONE
altho clary/ izzy/ simon are in the room, they only talk to alec
3x08: multiple scenes with izzy
no, owl!jace saying alec would chose jace over him doesn’t count
altho luke/ simon are in the room, they only talk to alec
3x09: 1 scene with izzy
3x10: 1 scene with jace
altho should a scene of him telling the parabatai he gave up his magic for them and them not saying anything count?
final count:
5 episodes (half the season) with NONE
3 episodes of only 1 scene interaction
only 2 episodes where he interacts throughout, yet only with 1 other main
only 1 episode where he gets to talk to another main without alec there
no episodes where he talks to another main and alec isn’t mentioned
SEASON 3B
3x11: 1 scene with izzy
altho jace is in the room, he only to talks alec
3x12: NONE
altho jace/ luke are in the room, they only talk to alec
3x13: 1 scene with izzy
and 1 single line to clary, i guess
3x14: NONE
3x15: NONE
aside from 1 single line to simon, i guess
no, clary/ jace/ izzy unkindly questioning him being there doesn’t count
side note: making magnus be surrounded by a room full of racist-coded shadowhunters in s3 was… a choice. what was the point of that? it showed that apparently only laws have changed but not societal sentiment- outside of the main foursome- since s1 in their mindset towards downworlders. and then they had malec get married amongst these racists a few weeks later?? to show him being treated so disrespectfully (again in s3, so nobody’s mindset progressed outside of the 4) and be made so uncomfortable and then never have them show him any love or treat him as an equal later on (as an individual and not just as half of malec) was… a choice. a bad choice.
3x16: NONE
3x17: NONE
3x18: NONE
altho clary/ jace are in the room, they only talk to alec (and then when he’s sad over something that their 3a choices caused, they leave. in the same episode the writers have maryse say “we’re all here for you”…what a joke.)
3x19: NONE
3x20: NONE
altho izzy/ clary/ jace are in the room, they only talk to alec
3x21: NONE
aside from 1 single line to simon, i guess
no, saying only biscuit doesn’t count
3x22: NONE
altho it’s his wedding day, they don’t let jace/ izzy welcome him into the family but instead irrelevant max.
and altho it’s literally the finale, the ONLY person he gets to talk to is his rival. (side note, but lorenzo and underhill should NOT have been at the wedding after their awful treatment towards him. such two-faced people.)
final count:
10 episodes (the length of a normal half season) with NONE
2 episodes of only 1 scene interaction
0 episodes where he interacts throughout
1 scene where he get to talk to another main without alec there
in his 1 scene in 3x13, he talks to another main and alec isn’t mentioned
i think the point i’m making is obvious: the 3 white showrunners and mostly white writers almost never ever let magnus even talk to any of the other main characters. (he also goes three seasons without a single story arc with another main that lasts more than 1 episode. (no, the writers using luke as a mouthpiece to justify alec’s mistake in 2b does not count.) you know, like how alec had big long arcs with both clary and jace in s1, 2a, and 3a and izzy here and there. even maia, the most neglected character on this show, still got to regularly interact with simon and luke- 2 mains. even luke with his limited screentime, still got to regularly at least talk to literally all of the mains in all his group scenes.
and what about the 3 downworlder mains and alec?
well, altho alec and maia only had 2 scenes together, that’s still twice what magnus/ maia got, seeing as they only had the 1 scene together in 2a.
alec and luke had at least 3 scenes together in s1 that i can remember vs magnus/ luke only having 2 lines in 1x06. both duos had about equal in 2b.
in 3a alec/luke had 5 scenes together. magnus/ luke had none where they actually spoke to each other. in group scenes magnus only talked to alec.
in 3b alec/ luke had 3 scenes. magnus/ luke had none. plus luke told alec that he couldn’t go to his wedding, instead of telling magnus.
in s1 magnus/ simon had maybe 1 line. alec/ simon were interacting constantly throughout, i don’t remember how many scenes it was.
in 2a magnus/ simon had 2 episodes together. in 2b they had 1 scene but i don’t really count it since it was only to have it be literally everyone vs magnus. alec/ simon had 1 scene in 2b and none in 2a.
in 3a alec/ simon had 3 scenes interacting together. magnus/ simon had none where they actually spoke to each other.
in 3b all the fans complaining really paid off! 2 scenes in 3x15. 1 scene each in 3x17, 3x19, 3x20, and 3x21 for a grand total of 6 scenes. plus no talking- yet still in a scene together- in 1 other scene in 3x15, 3x17, 3x18, and 2 others in 3x19, for a grand total of 5, not counting the edom finale scenes. magnus/ simon only said 2 lines to each other in 3b.
not to mention alec stood next to simon in a nice two-shot in 4 separate scenes. it really reminded me of what they do with clary/ alec in group scenes. the writers don’t always give them a lot of dialogue together, but they’re sure to get that dynamic in at least visually. alec always has at least crumbs vs magnus getting nothing. where is that energy from the writers, directors, or fans with magnus and literally any main? really, where is it?
i mean, there was no reason for alec/ simon not to have scenes, but i’m so truly disappointed that this is where the fan effort was spent instead of lobbying for magnus to get to interact with even one main character other than alec, seeing as alec always already get to constantly have many, many, many duo and group scenes and big arcs with the 3 other shadowhunters. and now he gets to be more bonded with all of the main downworlders too instead of magnus with his own people. the writers are so so so wack.
also obviously magnus interacts with alec on a regular basis. the point is that’s it. malec is the main reason why i watch the show, so it matters a great deal, but when every other main is getting vastly more interactions, it’s a problem. also in nearly all of the episodes when alec has scenes with other mains- and magnus is not there- magnus is not mentioned. not so when it’s vice versa.
why not count any supporting characters you may be saying? because that’s not what i hear everyone demanding for alec or the others, is it? because he didn’t interact with raphael, his supposed son, in s1, or at all after 3x01 to the actual finale. because aside from her bringing madzie over in 3x11, catatrina and and him didn’t speak in 3b. she wasn’t even introduced until 3a (so 2 seasons w/o any friends.) they only spoke in 4 scenes total in all of s3. she was his best man, yet that’s not important enough to show on screen. ragnor was literally only 1 episode. who’s left- his jealous, bitter pathetic rival or his father who has obvious gross, creepy incestuous, jealous feelings for him. or alec’s mother, who only had scenes with him for the same reason maia/ jordan had all those scenes- to give them something to do away from the group/ main plotlines. why couldn’t magnus and maia had scenes together also or instead? and being bffs with his bf’s mom but not getting to even TALK to his parabatai, the person alec’s closest to platonically, let alone be friends, is truly beyond words. and also harry and matt are only 5 years apart (kat/ dom have more of an age difference) so i’m tired of the writers/ fans keeping alec in the playpen with his younger co-stars while magnus is separated to only older ones.
and also i just really don’t care about supporting characters. i see them as just taking screentime away from the mains, specifically the downworlder mains, who are already running on limited time. look at 3x13 when they want to do a whole heidi arc, who gets cut- magnus. or in 3x17 when they want to introduce helen and aline, i resented them right off the bat for getting twice as much screentime than magnus, a main character, in that important episode for him. throughout the whole show, whenever supporting characters are getting screentime, it always means magnus, maia, and luke are not. that’s not good.
some final thoughts, nearly every single malec fan spent the entire 9 month hiatus from 3a to 3b relentlessly saying alec needs interactions. as if he didn’t get huge bonding arcs with clary and jace in s1 and 2a and 3a. as if he doesn’t talk to and go places and do things with clary, jace, and izzy nearly every single episode, every single season since the beginning. mighty handy to not count the 3 of them when you want to cry “alec has no friends” every single day, as if he hasn’t had an enemy to friendship arc with clary 3 times in 3 seasons. as if he hasn’t had a dying, can’t live without you arc with jace 3 times in 3 seasons. as if he doesn’t hug jace twice more than magnus per half season. as if he doesn’t have izzy there to lean on and talk to. funny how siblings don’t count as friends when it’s mighty convenient that’s they’re the only mains to have siblings. i would kill, KILL, for magnus to be even talk to jace and izzy let alone be real friends, yet fans are taking their friendships with alec for granted, while simultaneously saying they’re robbed of the parabatai dynamic. that’s rich.
if alec having scenes every other ep, and melodramatic arcs every other half season, wasn’t such a guarantee the fans have learned they could count on, nobody would say that his siblings and clary don’t count. but everyone knew they could say that because we know it wouldn’t be taken away. i mean, look at the stark siblings in game of thrones. they never interacted, and the entire fandom cried about that being the most important friendships to show, but it wasn’t shown. this fandom needs to put things in perspective and stop taking the lightwoods sibs and the shadowhunters squad dyamic for granted and realize that magnus and maia don’t get even a minuscule fraction of that. also want to add that simon got plenty of constant sturdy dynamics too, with clary, jace, luke, maia, and izzy. and fans got their alec/ simon content and yet still so ungrateful. i beg the malecs to compare what magnus gets before complaining.

more malec livewatch, everyone! i decided to start making the posts separately instead of keeping reblogging the same one over and over because i don’t want to drive everyone crazy with that gigantic fucking post. you can read the first ones here and i’ll keep updating the posts to lead to the next ones i guess. also im tagging it malec livewatch for those who want to avoid this nonsense
so let’s brave pre-wedding episode 12 i guess
oh boy.... we’re gonna do it... we’re gonna experience the Maximum Cringe
the special effects are so BAD odaijsdoaj when he summons the wine into Alec’s hand it’s just...... god
“we never finished our conversation” i mean you were the one who finished it magnus so wtf are you going on about
“it’s about family, tradition, honor” yeah we get it zuko boi duoahsiudhdiusa
really tho like he’s so clearly just.... reciting it. taking some shit out off the top of his head about how it’s the right thing and it’s sad tbh
he clearly kinda already has a script too? like “you and I understand marriage very differently” he says it right off the bat, he’s been thinking it over and hghgghgh
magnus goes near alec and alec swallows immediately and magnus ain’t even making a move to touch him yet. just diuahsdah it’s so obvious how hard he’s trying to hold back here
“you’re confusing me” is like the only thing he says the whole scene that sounds genuine
he’s paying so much attention to magnus’ dumb little speech about what love feels like too like. he’s trying to hold back but he’s very clearly pulled in, and i don’t even think it’s by magnus specifically (i mean obviously cuz have you seen him) but because he... kind of wants to hear it, kind of wants magnus to give him some golden argument that will make his whole resolution shatter. except he doesn’t because he doesn’t know what he’ll do then, but he’s still hoping for something and it’s sad
like how magnus clearly pauses like he’s waiting for alec’s reaction too, like. alec makes to leave and magnus doesn’t go after him, but he speaks, and alec stops. only when alec stops he gets closer. only when alec looks at him, clearly waiting to hear more, does he begin to talk again. i dig that even if most of this scene is kinda ugh to me
i hate how he uses his magic tho like what’s the point?? like yes i know that magic “can’t create feelings” but still dauhdsa it kinds feels like he’s cheating or trying to manipulate alec or something and i’m.. not into how the whole thing is done
oof hate how alec says “this is all just a game to you, isn’t it?” like bitch you know damn well it’s not like he’s putting himself at risk and showing you so much vulnerability and i hate how he goes for the whole “oh magnus doesn’t care about anything he’s just a seductive lothario” narrative in here lowkey. like i know he’s just trying to distance himself and he doesn’t fully believe it but... aaaaa i hate it
and he’s so HURT by alec’s words too like the rejection doesn’t hurt him as much as hearing alec say that he just flirts and it means nothing to him does. he’s trying so fucking hard to be open and honest and taking such a RISK (psychological, emotional, even physical) and alec is just throwing all of that bullshit persona he’s actively trying not to hide behind in his face, belittling all his efforts and feelings, and aaa
like again i don’t really blame alec but he truly is so hurt
still wonder what alec was about to say when he turned around to talk to him and magnus wasn’t there anymore tbh like. probably something else to try and distance himself so it’s probably good magnus left and isn’t there to hear it and it kind of forces alec to really think it over to himself instead of trying to argue but...... i do wonder what he was going to say diahsiduahdisah
magnus doesn’t even answer the whole “this means nothing to you” veiled accusation which.... also hurts like idk if he’s trying to avoid a fight or derailing like alec clearly is trying to, or if he just is too tired to have this argument, or if he just doesn’t want to open up this much, but either way he doesn’t acknowledge it except for his hurt look and oof
no one cares about jace and clary talking or whatever’s happening here next
i had never noticed the way magnus winks at clary when he says “oh, it’s happy hour somewhere, my dear” daishdaiuh it’s kinda cute tbh
hodge is so uncomfortable like the way he talks to magnus and gets too close to him... in a way that he doesn’t with anyone else either like he’s clearly just lowkey despising him/getting into his space and magnus notices too and it gives me the heebie jeebies
diuhaiudsahduaishdai magnus’ IMMEDIATE reaction of “why is ragnor fell there, he’s not more powerful than me” asohdaiudha we stan bickering bffs i truly love them so much
“he’s older than you” “certainly not wiser” daiohsahda
i think he might also be lowkey trying to protect ragnor and take the clave’s attention away from him now that i think about it but still i love their bickering
nah that’s cancelled he immediately rats him out on having been jocelyn’s profesor lmaoo
“that’s why he hasn’t been responding to my fire messages” daoihdsaiohads someone needs to lick their wounds
he’s just like “oh ragnor is hiding in his specific safehouse outside of london” like daoiusduaihdasuda love how he just knows that off the top of his head when ragnor clearly didn’t actually tell him about it since he just fucked off and hasn’t been responding
“didn’t know you were here” “that was the point” doaiuhdasiouhdaiuhdas
like i know he’s talking about the marriage but also.... just mood in general tbh
again with the eye flickering. hes looking at magnus, no hes not, yeah he is, haha SIKE, oh there it is again, nope it’s gone..... kinda funny cuz like i know that alec’s eyes flicker a lot in general but afterwards when they are together every time he looks at magnus it’s just so pointed and intense and focused on him so the contrast of watching the s1 scenes and realizing how little his glances at magnus always lasted is... interesting and heartbreaking. like obviously he doesn’t want to be looking at any man for too long, doesn’t want to take that risk, keeps hyper aware of his attraction at all times, but he still can’t help the glances and then when he can look he just does it so unapologetically and intensely and you can tell that it’s just. intimate to him (to both of them really) right then, and wow
i know we talk a lot about alec’s Big Hands but magnus’ hands are so nice too in like a totally different way... anytime he holds anything it just looks like he’s treating it like it’s precious, it’s so delicate and careful and his hands are smooth and pretty and wow i love him so fucking much
wow can’t believe nothing heartbreaking at all happens when they go to ragnor’s house and that ragnor just winks at magnus like “haha yes i am ‘dead’” and magnus is like “yes, this is a lie and a ruse and also a plan. i am perfectly aware that ragnor is not dead at all”
ragnor says “my dear friend, i will always be here for you” with so much honesty and love and ugh i love them like they’re always little bitches to each other but they still have the room to be perfectly loving and honest with each other and i stan
ragnor looks at magnus with so much fucking hurt when magnus says “i prayed she would love me the same” like you can tell it destroys him to even remember it or think about it and aaa
“he was always so much better looking than you” and the way magnus purses his lips in what is clearly a smile like he just knows it’s the teasing and he loves ragnor and their dynamic and i just daouhdsauida also he’s so beautiful boy i die
the way ragnor says “someday, someone will come and will tear down those walls you put around you and around your heart” and magnus looks at him with so much. fucking PAIN in his eyes because someone did but it got nowhere and in the end alec just kind of acknowledged his walls again and went back to pretending that it never happened and that magnus didn’t progress or open up to it at all, that magnus was just lying, that it’s just a game and dauhdaiudha god he’s so HURT
again i owe harry shum jr my entire life like he might be seriously the best actor i’ve ever seen in any show, he’s so damn expressive and talented in every little motion he’s truly a pearl in the desert of shit that is this show
“even in death, you give the best advice” ugh love how this really cements that magnus is used to opening up to ragnor and even with their bickering there’s so much room for them to be emotionally honest like we stan
anyway sure wish this had any emotional continuity whatsoever but at least the cringefest is over. onto an actual good scene fucking finally
love every little detail about this scene as yall probably already know so i’ll try not to point every single one of them out yet again but who knows if i’ll succeed. i bet that i won’t tbh
love the contrast between alec looking so tense when lydia comes down the aisle and she’s like all smiles and shit
she’s before him and he can barely look at her like his eyes flicker a bit between her and the bouquet and he settles on the bouquet this whole thing is so... wrong so clearly, like i could show it to someone who doesn’t know shit about sh and they would be able to tell that nothing fits
even alec’s clothes are weird, like idk i don’t understand fashion but his look looks so disjointed, like the blazer doesn’t really match the pants, the bowtie looks weird and doesn’t match the buttons, and shit and nothing about him looks like it’s in the right place. and everyone else (except maybe izzy who also looks miserable lmao) looks like a perfect picture and he’s just.... idk there’s this aura of wrongness around him that’s subtle but really well done in the terms of costume and shit. the costume department really went off in this whole scene honestly like we stan. possibly the only ones other than the actors who knew what the fuck they were doing lmao
when lydia smiles at izzy and izzy barely moves up the corner of one of her lips dajdasnjdan she looks even more miserable than alec does and god i love the lightwood siblings so much like i truly do. she’s supporting him because she’s decided she’s not going to keep pushing him when it only leads to him not trusting her but she’s all broken that he’s broken, and she was willing to take his place and throw her life away even when that’s everything she’s always tried to avoid, just so he wouldn’t have to do this, and aaaaa
who cares about jace and clary looking at each other @directing team like seriously get over this
he turns in the direction of the silent brother in an almost kind of jerking motion like he completely forgot about where he was supposed to go or something, like again he’s just... not in it
they are holding hands in the WEIRDEST possible way too like there’s so much distance between them it’s almost funny ldaojsja
he tries to smile at lydia when she’s about to put the rune on his arm like he knows she knows that he’s hating this and he’s just bearing it and trying to not make her uncomfortable? like doajdsaoj
the way that magnus INTERRUPTS not just the wedding but also the chorus, you could tell there was a crescendo coming even if you’ve never heard the song, but magnus pushes the doors open and suddenly it stops and there’s this little bit and then the “tututututu” of tension as he comes into view and his steps perfectly match the three little beats that were already there before, but sound so much louder and more prominent like a heartbeat, like before they were muffled and now they’re real??? the poetic cinema bro
ill just never get over the way they used song here it sounds like an AMV like the song isn’t just giving the vibe, they are telling the story THROUGH the song and the whole scene is basically a coreography, and the song is the narrative, and holy shit i love it so much could you imagine if they had used this amount of thought and genius and clever storytelling the whole show?? i’d shit myself
ugh the DRAMA of magnus’ look again i KNOW i’ve been over this again and again and again and again and again and again but i just. i love how they used his makeup & costume to accentuate magnus’ 1- face, 2- eyes, 3- jaw, and 4- adam’s apple. the whole focus is on his face and eyes (which again so expressive we stan harry shum jr in this house), the fact that his eyes are his WARLOCK MARK (yeah they’re not out but like we’re still drawing attention to the part of magnus he tries to hide the most, and the part of him that marks what makes him disdainful to shadowhunters), the fact that his jaw and adam’s apple are so prominent. his whole face looks really sharp and masculine you know?? like the whole focus is on everything about him that’s supposed to be “wrong” and make malec “wrong” but he’s never looked more beautiful (IT’S SUCH AN UNDERRATED LOOK) and they didn’t sacrifice his gnc-ness for it either, on the contrary, they gave his hair the hot pink streak which. INSPIRED WE STAN, and the makeup is very clear (again esp around his eyes) which of course only adds to it because he’s not just a man, he’s a gnc man and that makes it “worse”, but also like, i like how they accentuated his masculinity in alec’s coming out scene, without sacrificing his identity and gender non conformness. again the costume department is the only one who genuinely knew what they were doing 100% of the time i hope they all got big fucking checks
alec just blinks and focuses on him and it’s the first time it looks like he’s really looking at something and i just wow
izzy is so happy to see magnus there :) she loves her brother so much :)
magnus holding up two fingers to get people to shut up... the way he snarls “maryse, this is between me and your son” with so much certainty and like no room for bullshit he’s so good at making shadowhunters too speechless to stop him and honestly im such a whore tbh if he did this to me id just nut on the spot. shut me up daddy. fuck who said that
like how they included the “i’ll leave if he asks me to” and how he really doesn’t say anything, he’s just standing there, like they made sure to make this scene respectful and i was kind of dreading it the first time because i’d HATE it if magnus had outed him or made this whole drama out of it but he didn’t and i like that so so much
“i thought we were doing the right thing, but... this isn’t it” always gets me and i can’t even put my finger on why. it just does like again this is not really about magnus or their relationship, it’s about how he feels about the whole thing, everything that he’s giving up and he barely knows what for anymore, and i justjfianfajf
again the BRILLIANCE of the song usage the way that he’s talking to lydia and the beat is so damn loud and overwhelming and then as soon as he turns to magnus everything just drowns out and there is one (1) piano note and it’s just him and magnus and it’s like everything silences??? he’s just so damn focused and it’s not the nervousness and loudness of everyone else and their whole audience (they don’t even show the audience anymore after alec turns to him for real and before the actual kiss i don’t think) and there’s just that sharp focus and certainty because alec’s made up his mind and there’s no sound anymore like mwaaahhh poetic cinEMA
and it’s just that moment of clarity as they both look at each other and the song begins again with the higher tempo again, but it feels more like, a march? than that overwhelming noise. and of course there’s the singing and it feels like everything has purpose and is just laser focused and it’s still intense but in a completely opposite way, not lost but found and wow im such a whORE for this scene it’s unbelievable
like how alec takes the first step towards magnus after he’s down the stairs exactly as the song goes “want” like mwaahhhhh brilliance amazing talented showstopping spectacular never been done before completely unique,
his “enough” is dajksdfahidasdhadusahuash again im a simple sub id nut
i was right they only really show the audience again after the kiss. except for maryse but even then it’s so quick, we see her going to alec and after alec says “enough” she literally doesn’t show anymore it’s like she’s not even there, she just disappears it’s so sexy we stan??? like again alec’s made up his mind and nothing else is there to stop him wow love that for him could you imagine thinking this man is shy and insecure? can’t relate
THEY ARE SKIGGNISNGG
FOREVER A WHORE FOR THE WAY MAGNUS CHASES AFTER HIM HOLY FUCKING SHIT. THE WAY HE’S SO LOST IN THE KISS, IN THE ELATION, AND HE JUST CAN’T HELP GOING FOR MORE BEFORE HE CAN STOP HIMSELF AND KEEP UP WITH HIS TIGHT COMPOSTURE (because magnus had barely moved once alec had seen him, he just stood there and waited like he was waiting for his cue, he was holding himself perfectly steadily and just had so many walls) LIKE HE JUST CAN’T HELP BUT WANT?? AND GO FOR MORE?? AND THEN HE REALIZES ALEC IS PULLING AWAY AND HE LOOKS AT HIM FOR A SECOND (and his eyes look so DIFFERENT, not like there’s a wall there, he looks relieved and happy and even kind of dazed and i just wow the difference is SO clear) AND ALEC LOOKS AT HIM AND HE TAKES JUST A FRACTION OF A SECOND BEFORE HE LEANS IN AGAIN, AND IT’S THE FIRST TIME THAT MAGNUS HAS ASKED FOR MORE AND ALEC’S GIVEN IT, BECAUSE ALEC HAS BEEN GIVING HIM SOME OPENINGS BUT EVERY TIME MAGNUS WANTED MORE HE TURNED AWAY, BUT THIS TIME HE FUCKING GIVES MAGNUS WHAT HE’S SILENTLY ASKING FOR, HE’S CHOOSING HIM FULLY AND NOT JUST ENOUGH FOR THEM TO BE ABLE TO BE TOGETHER, HE’S CHOOSING TO GO ALL IN AND KISS MAGNUS UNTIL HE’S SATISFIED AND HOLY SHIT THE POETIC CINEMA!! THE TALENT!!! THE BRILLIANCE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! THANK YOU SHADOWHUNTERS CREW FOR PUTTING UP YOUR FIVE TOTAL BRAINCELLS TOGETHER TO MAKE THIS FANTASTIC THING HAPPEN HOLY FUCKING SHIT THIS SCENE IS EVERYTHING TO ME

Project 2 - Discovery Phase
Tumblr media
the cover of my original pocket book copy
1. City of Bones - Cassandra Clare
2. Largely the cover designs consist of fit, faceless, young adults with tattoos, photoshopped to have a darker/edgy/grungy feel. Designs are usually dominated by one colour. The tenth-anniversary edition features beautiful and simple gold linework on a dark blue background.
3. Aside from the 10th anniversary edition the covers are missing illustrative and minimalist designs. The designs are also largely focused on photographic imagery and texture.
4. Fantasy, murder, young adult, runes, vampires, faeries, tattoos, secrets, darkness, battle, protect, mystery, romance
5. Main characters: (from wikipedia)
Clarissa Adele "Clary" Fray/Fairchild/Morgenstern She is a little over 5 feet tall (5'2-5'5), thin, has bright red hair, green eyes, freckles, and described as looking nearly identical to her mother. Clary grew up oblivious to the Shadow World and her real heritage. Jocelyn, her mother, believed that Clary should have a normal human life to shield her from Jocelyn's past. She raised Clary in New York. Clary is an artist, like her mother, often drawing her emotions in pictures - her version of a diary. She lives a very typical teenage life until her mother is kidnapped. Throughout the next book or 2, Clary embarks on a quest to help her mother while adjusting to life as a Shadowhunter. She and Jace eventually develop a mutual attraction; although the revelation that they are siblings dashes their romantic hopes.
Jonathan Christopher "Jace" Wayland/Morgenstern At the age of 10, Jace was orphaned because his father was murdered by members of the Circle. He was then sent to the New York Institute to live with the Lightwoods and Hodge Starkweather. There, he trained alongside Isabelle and Alec Lightwood. Jace grew up to be cold and arrogant to those around him. He rejected the idea of love and only believes in the art of war. Before the death of his father, Jace was brutally trained to be an expert in the arts of war. He was said to be the best Shadowhunter of his age. Jace is described as having golden hair, eyes, and skin. He is attracted to Clary but becomes horrified after discovering that they might be siblings.
Simon Lewis Clary's human best friend and essentially only friend for about 10 years. Simon only has three main interests; his band, keeping up with everything nerdy, and Clary. He is secretly in love with Clary, though she does not appear to reciprocate those feelings and is oblivious to them until he directly tells her. He is jealous that Clary shows a larger amount of affection for Jace than himself. His loyalty to Clary is unwavering even after discovering the relationship the Clary and Jace begin to grow, Simon stays by Clary. He is described as a tall slender 16-year-old boy with black shaggy hair and brown eyes.
Isabelle Sophia "Izzy" Lightwood She is described as tall and incredibly beautiful, with black hair and eyes. She is daughter to Robert and Maryse Lightwood and sister to Max and Alexander Lightwood. Isabelle's priorities are simple: family, The Clave, and herself. She is determined to be strong and fight whomever in order to obtain what she wants. She is ruthless when it comes to protecting her family. On the surface she may seem like she is self-absorbed; however, throughout the novel, she grows into a much more complex character.
Alexander Gideon "Alec" Lightwood Alec is the eldest son of the Lightwoods; therefore, he carries much of the responsibility of the siblings. Having just become an adult, Alec was expected to take care of his siblings and look over the Institute while his parents are away. Throughout the book, he is constantly struggling with what is right by his family and friends and what is right by the law. Alec's self-esteem was very low at the beginning of the novel, which makes him lash out at Clary and other characters. He has black hair and blue eyes. Alec is a closeted homosexual, but comes out to Clary and Isabelle, and claims to be in love with Jace. He is jealous of Clary over Jace's affection for her.
Luke Garroway/Lucian Graymark Once a Shadowhunter and a former member of the Circle, a group started by Valentine Morgenstern, he is Jocelyn's best friend and seems to be in love with her, though he has yet to declare it. Because of his close relationship with Jocelyn, Clary considers him a father figure. Luke became a werewolf when Valentine betrayed him. He has since become a pack leader twice (in Paris and in New York).
Valentine Morgenstern A powerful, evil Shadowhunter, he reappears after years in hiding, during which he was presumed dead. He attempts to steal the Mortal Cup from his former wife, Jocelyn. He tells Jace and Clary that they are both his and Jocelyn's children.
Magnus Bane The High Warlock of Brooklyn, who has a romantic interest in Alec Lightwood. When his name is found imprinted inside Clary's mind, Clary and her allies seek him out to uncover his connection to her past and her mother. He saved Alec from death when the latter was injured by a Greater Demon.
Hodge Starkweather Isabelle, Alec, and Jace's eccentric tutor, who, in the end, comes out to be a follower of Valentine.
Jocelyn Fray/Fairchild Clary's mother and a former Shadowhunter seeking isolation from the Shadow World as a means of protecting Clary from Valentine, her estranged husband. An artist, Jocelyn is described as elegant and beautiful, with long red hair darker than Clary's. She hid the Mortal Cup (one of the three Mortal Instruments) so that no one else could claim it or disclose its location, leaving subtle clues that only her daughter, Clary, would be able to decipher. When she found two-year-old Clary playing with faeries, Jocelyn sought Magnus Bane's help and every two years he cast a spell on Clary's mind that shielded her from seeing the Shadowhunter world. She was abducted by Valentine in hopes of discovering where she hid the Mortal Cup, Jocelyn is eventually found by Clary in a potion-induced coma, and is taken to the hospital.
6. Plot points:
Story starts in club dt NYC, Clary witnesses mysterious/magical murder
Clary’s mother goes missing

10 Things I Hate About You AU wherein Maryse enforces a rule that Izzy can only date once Alec starts dating, because Alec as always been completely uninterested in dating (many girls have tried, but he’s turned them all down without fail). Alec is in the closet, and Izzy is the only one who knows.
Izzy wants to date Meliorn, the hot, popular, kind of asshole-y guy, but the rule prevents it. She mentions all of this to Simon, who is tutoring her in Algebra 2, and who has a huge crush on her. Simon, together with his bff Clary, convince Meliorn to pay someone to date Alec.
But who would be ballsy enough to date the Ice King himself? Well, Magnus Bane pierced his own ears, likes to play with a lighter at school, and is rumored to have done a stint in juvie for stabbing his step-dad. Magnus agrees, almost immediately, dropping an “I love a challenge” before grinning devilishly.
And then we just follow the plot of the movie from there.

I know TWP will be the final instalment in TSC
But, bear with me for this wonderful concept: A team made up of Max Lightwood-Bane, Rafael Lightwood-Bane, Octavian Blackthorn, Baby Carstairs and Baby Haline
Max Lightwood-Bane, the young warlock, still figuring out his powers, but trained by the mighty Magnus Lightwood-Bane, High Warlock of Brooklyn. Adorable and friendly to everyone he meets, always willing to lend a helping hand. However, he's also incredibly awkward and terrible with words, constantly embarrassing himself (people don't believe he's the son of Magnus Bane, but then they spend some time with Alec and it's all made clear...)
Rafael Lightwood-Bane, a too-cool-for-this Shadowhunter, who's at the same time a great fighter and a great politician (trained both by his dad, the Consul and his parabatai, the best Shadowhunter of his generation, with angel blood). He's also usually super smooth, and constantly trying to help his brother become cooler, but supporting him anyways when he makes a fool of himself
(Alec and Jace 2.0)
Octavian Blackthorn (when he grows up, he refuses to be called Tavvy by anyone other than his family but the others still do it though), a soft boi who loves stories, and was raised in such a loving environment, surrounded by his brothers and sisters. He brings that familiar and bonding energy with him wherever he goes, uniting the group, but he's also been through some pretty intense stuff by the time he was 8, so he's also the one  always on high alert, the most defensive one. Also, he's the oldest, even if he's always been young at heart, so he's kind of "in charge" of the group, always making sure his friends are okay, and the one they go to with their problems. (I'm not saying less-intense-mini-Julian but I'm also not not saying it)
Baby Carstairs - let's call her Cordelia for this headcannon -, a part-warlock Shadowhunter with mysterious powers, who was raised by the gentlest, most loving parents and an older brother who adored and constantly spoiled her. The nicest girl, with a love for books and music, as well as incredibly caring for everyone around her and willing to do anything for the people she loves (yes, the mom friend - what do you expect with parents as sweet as hers?)
Baby Haline - let's call her Eleanor for this headcannon -, the (part?)faerie youngest girl, who is usually very "girly", but perfectly able to kick some ass. Raised surrounded by Shadowhunters, but with a mom who made sure she knew of her fairy heritage, and the Unseelie King as an uncle, she's well-rounded and quite aware of the world around her, keeping it real and facing issues head on. Also a great Downworlder rights activist (especially faeries, who were still suspected, even after the Cold Peace was ended). Helen's sensitivity and Aline's fierceness and impulsiveness combined.
Even if, technically, most of them aren't full-blown Shadowhunters, they still train and fight monsters, because that's what their parents did and what they grew up around and want to do
Max, Rafe and Tavvy quickly became great friends from childhood, and though they grew up apart, always kept in touch and constantly trained together, becoming a very close-knit trio
Though Tavvy is technically Eleanor's uncle, they were always very close, and he's constantly fussing over her and taking care of her - he's basically her big brother - which she used to love, but now, grown up, finds annoying
Cordelia grew up in Devon, away from everyone else, even though she knew the Lightwood-Banes very well 'cause you best believe Magnus and Tessa are going to arrange so many playdates and had met Eleanor a few times, so she's eager to connect with her friends and go out and have the adventures she always read about
She and Max always got along great, the two cinnamon rolls (Rafe, on the other hand, whenever they went over to Cirenworth Hall, completely looked up to Kit, whom, to him, was just the coolest guy ever - something which made Jace kinda flip out when he found out) and totally eventually start dating, even if they were too shy and had to be pushed by Rafe and Eleanor.
Cordelia and Eleanor are a little awkward at first, not really knowing each other, only from a few occasions growing up with their close families, but then they totally become BFFs (kinda like Clary and Izzy's relationship)
Eleanor also knew the Lightwood-Banes very well, though, as their parents were close too, and also having accompanied Tavvy to hang out with them, when she was older (she was in that stage of following her best friend wherever he went)
So, yeah, they're all pretty much friends right off the bat, but would then be truly thrown together by some of those usual Shadow world shenanigans.
A diverse group of not just Shadowhunters, navigating the new world the Clave-In-Exile has built, much more open and well-functioning, and inclusive of Downworlders

I just had the best thought ever, prepare yourself. Malec human au where Alec's friends & family know he's dating some guy but only his bff Clary (Yes theyre gay besties) knows it's Magnus. Then, one day, they get engaged & Magnus posts an obligatory "he said yes!!" pic & tags Alec, Izzy follows Magnus on insta (maybe he has a following? maybe because of his job? maybe she just follows him because of mutual friends? maybe they're friends?? who knows) & sees the post & is like Alec,,,,, explain??
This was super fun, Julia, and I hope you like this!!!
read on ao3
Alec answers a text message as he sits down, only to look up when Clary snorts.
“You’re so smitten,” she teases, taking a drink of her bubble tea.
“Shut up,” Alec huffs. He turns his phone so that the screen faces down as he gives his friend his total attention.
Clary had been a total pain in his ass at first when they’d met in college. Taking pottery as an elective to fulfill his fine art credit, Alec had gotten to class early enough to have his pick of seats. Of course, he’d taken an empty table only for a bright-haired whirlwind to come crashing into the seat next to him just before class started.
She’d introduced herself cheerily and while Alec knows his own expression had probably been closer to a pained grimace, Clary had been unfazed. As things would go, they were assigned partners for the semester and after four months Alec had a fervent desire to never even see a pottery wheel again and a reluctantly good friend.
Sighing as Clary just stares at him with an expectant look, Alec dryly wonders that he shouldn’t be surprised. In their early days, the two had bonded over talking about relationships. As luck would have it, Clary had ran into Isabelle during an art exhibition a few weeks after they’d met and Alec hasn’t known peace since.
“What, Fray.”
Alec’s tone isn’t what anyone would call welcoming but Clary doesn’t let that stop her as she perks up. She raises a brow, mouth upturned.
“When are you going to tell everyone? It’s been what, over a year?”
“Almost two,” Alec mutters and jerks away when Clary reaches over and slaps his shoulder.
“Alec,” she exclaims. “You’ve been dating Magnus for two years and you still haven’t told your family? How the hell have you managed that? Why would you want to do that? You know Izzy thinks you’re dating, like, a CIA agent or something, right? For God’s sake, you two live together.”
Wincing, Alec shrugs defensively. “Magnus is gone a lot for shooting. Do you know how hard it is to explain his absences without making him sound like a black ops spy?” Running a hand through his hair, he goes on to mutter, “It just sorta happened? Magnus wanted to keep things quiet for awhile to stay out of the press and then it just snowballed from there.”
“Surely you could trust Izzy and Jace, though.” Clary’s tone is incredulous and Alec doesn’t blame her. Whenever he stops to think about it, it does seem inordinately ridiculous that he’s been in a relationship without his siblings catching wind of the guy.
“I was exciting at first, you know that. Sneaking around, annoying Jace and Iz by refusing to say anything, especially since I know that Izzy’s halfway in love with him herself. But then it just got to the point where I didn’t know how to tell them. The timing never seemed right.”
Clary laughs softly. “What, tell them that their brother is dating Magnus Bane, two time Academy Award winner? Yeah, I’m sure that’d go over smoothly.”
“I can hear Izzy’s screams now,” Alec says grimly before sighing deeply. He flips his gaze up to meet Clary’s eyes. “I’m halfway surprised you haven’t told her.”
Sniffing delicately, Clary just offers, “I am capable of keeping secrets, you know. After we ran into Magnus that first time, when he called me that night and demanded pretty boy’s phone number, I didn’t know if anything would come out of it. Magnus is a pretty private kinda guy when he’s not working.” She snorts. “And then, like you said, things snowballed. You two started dating– and were dating for months before I even realized– and by then, I didn’t think it was my place. She’s your sister,” she accuses with a glare.
Alec just huffs out a breath, beleaguered. “Yeah, trust me, I know.”
Leaning over the table, Clary’s tone drops to something encouraging and a little beseeching. “All I‘m saying is that this will bite you in the ass if you don’t tell everyone.”
“Know something I don’t, Fray?” Alec asks with a raised brow before glaring at her when she does nothing but smile.
The conversation moves on swiftly from there. While the two of them regularly hang out, the schedules have been so busy lately that it feels like ages since they last stopped for coffee and chatted until the sun started drooping in the sky.
Still, as Alec enjoys a rare afternoon out of the courtroom, he can’t help but wonder what the hell Clary was being so cryptic about.
Alec wakes to the feel of lips against his spine. Smiling into his pillow, he relaxes deeper into the mattress as he feels Magnus trace invisible lines along his back with a wandering hand before chasing a string of kisses across his shoulders.
“Morning, babe,” he finally manages to get out, voice hoarse with residual sleep.
Pausing in his ministrations, Magnus leans over him further until Alec shivers at the breath against his ear.
“Good morning, fiance.” The words are immediately followed by a lingering kiss just under his hear that’s more of a nuzzle against warm skin.
Alec can’t stop the grin that lights up his face and he doesn’t try to as he shifts until he’s on his back with Magnus looming over him. The morning sunlight streams through their gauzy curtains and paints them both in burnished shades of gold.
“That does have a nice ring to it, doesn’t it?”
Humming, Magnus nods emphatically. “Oh, darling, you have no idea. How are you feeling this morning?”
Alec’s voice is traitorously soft as he brings a hand up and combs it through Magnus’s wild bedhead. His boyfriend– fiance– looks ridiculous and perfect and like everything he’s ever dreamed of. “Like the luckiest man in the world,” he replies and he watches Magnus’s mouth tip up in a faint but glowing smile.
Leaning down, Magnus catches Alec’s lips in a kiss that’s warm if not heated. Time spins out for long minutes, the two of them enjoying each other and this perfectly ordinary– yet special all the same– morning.
It’s a couple of hours later, after they’ve finished breakfast, when Magnus gets that gleam in his eye that Alec would know anywhere.
Laughing a little, he asks, “What’s going on in that head of yours? You have something up your sleeve.”
Resting his chin in his hand, Magnus gazes across the table at him, eyes moving between the engagement ring on Alec’s hand up to his face. “Can I paint your nails?”
Surprised, Alec blinks. “Why,” he asks, bemused. “It’s been months since you painted my nails.”
“Well,” Magnus drawls out, reaching for Alec’s hand and tangling their fingers together. “That ring looks lovely on you, if I do say so myself– and I should know since I bought the damn thing– and what better way to set it off than with a little polish?”
Alec brings their joined hands up to his mouth, placing a quick kiss right below Magnus’s knuckles. “Yeah, okay then,” he agrees easily. “Did you have a color in mind?”
Grinning widely, Magnus just winks at him. “Oh, Alexander, how could you even ask me that.”
He’s just finishing the last nail’s clear topcoat when he looks up at Alec.
Alec, who’d been smiling as he watched his fiance work– Magnus was always so cute when he concentrated– shakes his head a little as he sees the faint line between Magnus’s brows deepen.
“Hey,” he says softly. “What’s up?”
Straightening from where he’d been leaning over Alec’s nails, Magnus frowns a little and looks uncertain. That’s an expression that rarely comes across his face and Alec studies him, a little worried.
“I was just thinking,” Magnus starts, “That if we’re getting married then we’ll probably have to come clean, don’t you think? Really, we probably should’ve made an announcement awhile ago but I do so enjoy having you all to myself.”
Magnus’s voice lowers on the last few words and Alec finds himself smiling even as heat sweeps up his spine.
Careful with his still tacky polish, Alec grabs Magnus’s chin, urging him closer for a soft kiss. “Whenever you want,” he agrees easily as he pulls back. “I respect your job and you not wanting us to become fodder for the media. I know I can handle things, though, if you think you’re ready.”
He rolls his eyes. “And I mean, come on. Everyone knows that Magnus Bane is off the market. They just don’t know who.”
“Fair enough.” Magnus laughs a little before he looks down and studies Alec’s hands, now painted with a dark blue polish with the faintest hint of shimmer.
Alec watches his love take a deep breath before his gaze flips back up and meets his. “So we’re doing this?”
“We’re doing this,” Alec repeats, voice firm. “How do you wanna play it?”
Magnus’s eyes go from his phone on the table to Alec’s hands– back and forth a few times and Alec can pinpoint the moment he gets an idea.
“I’ll have to invite Jace and Izzy to brunch tomorrow and tell them the good news,“ Alec says, picking up on Magnus’s train of thought. "I don’t want them hearing it from anyone else.”
“Whatever you say, darling,” Magnus agrees absently as he reaches for his phone and starts shifting Alec’s hand how he wants it. “I can meet you depending on the time. I do have that interview tomorrow afternoon in Midtown.”
Alec makes a faint noise of acknowledgement as he grins down at his ring, his stupidly perfect ring that Magnus had surprised him with last night.
It’s a bold move but right now, in this moment, Alec feels like he could shout his love from the rooftops. It’s unforgivable drivel but it’s true and he’s excited to finally proclaim Magnus as his and, by the looks of things, his forever.
“Okay, hermano, you told us to be at Taki’s bright and early. Here we are, I’ve eaten two plates of appetizers, and you have yet to tell us what’s so important that you dragged me from my Sunday morning ritual with Clary. Spill.”
Alec takes a bracing drink of his coffee as he looks between Izzy and Jace. Clary’s next to Isabelle trying valiantly to swallow her smile, though Alec sees the discreet thumbs up she throws his way.
He clears his throat. While one arm rests on the table as he fiddles with his coffee mug, the other hand is under the table and he tries to calm his nerves by playing with his ring, spinning it slowly to ease the vise that’s clamped down on his throat.
He’s not worried about his family’s reactions. They’ve heard him gush about his boyfriend enough to know that he’s a good man and that he makes Alec happy. Still, Magnus is famous and Alec’s kept this under wraps for a surprisingly long time.
Distantly, he has a moment to wonder that the timing just never fucking fits.
As he starts thinking about what to say– and yeah, he did practice but Alec’s never been good at remembering speeches when they’re not in front of a judge– he’s vaguely aware of Isabelle studying his nails. He catches the smile that spreads across her face before her expression turns thoughtful, her eyes narrowing.
Alec’s just opened his mouth when Isabelle speaks over him.
“Oh my God,” she exclaims, eyes widening but laser focused on his hands. “Oh my God, Alec.”
Her mouth is hanging open and Jace is staring at her like she’s lost her damned mind as Alec deflates and Clary stifles the giggles that he just knows she’s hiding behind her hand.
Isabelle stands up from the table abruptly, her chair scraping the floor loud in the cacophonous din of the morning crowd.
Pointing a sharp finger at him, Izzy demands, “Show me your other hand, Alec.”
Sighing, Alec obeys and climbs to his feet. He holds out his left hand in front of Izzy and watches as she gasps before immediately reaching for him, thumb brushing over his ring.
“I ought to kill you,” she mutters, sounding dazed. Her eyes are glued to his hand before she lifts her head with, what looks like, herculean effort. “Explain everything.”
Alec winces as he sits back down, playing with his ring blatantly now. His sister’s voice had been sugary sweet as she spoke through clenched teeth.
He swallows hard. Before he can say anything, though, Jace is talking.
“What the hell’s going on,” he asks, confused. “You got engaged– I’d have to be blind not to see that engagement ring– but why is Iz about to murder you and everyone you’ve ever cared about?”
“Because,” Isabelle grits out, "He’s engaged to Magnus fucking Bane, movie star and fashion icon.”
At that, Jace does a double take. “Wait– what.”
“Yeah, about that,” Alec says, clearing his throat. He looks at Izzy. “How did you know?”
“I saw your hands. They were familiar but it took me awhile to place where I’d seen that color lately. Wouldn’t you know, I saw it on Instagram yesterday. It was a post by Magnus of a hand with that color polish and a ring and the caption He said yes. It’s all anyone can talk about, the prospect of Magnus taking his relationship public. If only I knew that my brother’s boyfriend– who I thought was some sort of super top secret spy– was the man in question.”
Running a hand through his hair, Alec leans back in his seat, deflating. “I should’ve known you’d check Instagram before brunch.”
He doesn’t get to say anything else before there’s a whirlwind heading toward them. Magnus drops a quick kiss on top of Alec’s head before plopping down in the chair next to him. He’s grinning and Alec’s the only one who sees the nerves that are lighting him up from the inside.
Without thinking, he reaches over and takes Magnus’s hand, sweeping a thumb over his to steady his fiance. Magnus squeezes his hand, throwing him a look of thanks, before turning toward the table.
“Hello, I’m Magnus and I’m Alexander’s–”
“Fiance.” Isabelle says the word with Magnus and the table sits in stunned silence for a minute.
Jace is the first one to rally.
He holds out a hand for Magnus to shake before tilting his head in Alec’s direction. “We heard you proposed to Alec last night. Congratulations but I just have one question.” He pauses for a brief moment and the glint in his eye has Alec wanting to preemptively sink to the floor. “Are you sure you want to tie yourself forever to a guy that has the social life of a ninety year old great-grandmother?”
Alec doesn’t have time to take offence, to offer a sharp rebuttal, before Magnus is responding.
His fiance– the love of his life, the very beat of his heart– just winks at Jace, settling in his seat as he reaches for Alec’s coffee with his free hand.
“You know,” he starts, and Alec rolls his eyes at Magnus’s thoughtful, facetious tone. “I daresay the grandmother would be more lively than Alec– especially when he’s on a case. Have you ever played cards with him? He’d be kicked out of bridge club before he could be offered a hard candy.”
Jace barks out a laugh and it breaks the tension. Alec joins in even if it’s at his expense and feels relief that everything really will work out alright. He’ll have to answer a million and one questions from Izzy and he’s already bracing himself for Jace’s ribbing but as he introduces Magnus to his family and finally sees one of his most anticipated daydreams play out, Alec’s comfortable and happy and so full of joy that he barely knows what to do with himself.
Brunch is a splendid success and becomes a sort of tradition for the Lightwood siblings and their significant others. Isabelle forgives him after bleeding every single detail out of him and he breathes a quiet sigh of relief when her ire turns toward Clary.
Later that evening, when Alec sees a picture of him and Magnus splashed across the front of TMZ, he chuckles and thinks, This is it.
"Hey babe,” he calls out from where he’s laying in bed, scrolling aimlessly on his phone.
“Yes, darling?” Magnus’s voice echoes from the bathroom where he’s taking his makeup up and going through his night time routine.
“It looks like our secret’s out. People saw us walking today and know who I am.”
Stepping into the bedroom, Magnus studies Alec for a minute before smiling and coming over to his side of the bed. He looks down at him softly before combing a hand through his hair.
“Don’t you know, Alexander?” He winks. “The best news is when people think they’re pulling something over on someone.”
Humming a little, Alec looks back down at his phone. He takes a single breath, turning his head slightly to kiss Magnus’s wrist. “Out of the frying pan,” he murmurs.
Magnus’s voice is just as quiet– and just as confident– as he replies, “And into the fire.”

Posting the first part of the SPN/SH crossover to see if there is enough interest to continue! Let me know if you guys want to see more!
“Dean!” Sam’s voice was ragged and panicked over the snarl of the Impala’s engine. Dean’s calloused hand slammed against the steering wheel as he cursed under his breath, his eyes darting between each side mirror and the rearview. “They’re getting closer! We gotta figure something out!”
Dean mumbled “think” to himself repeatedly until he recognized his surroundings.
“Oh, come on.” He groused, ripping the wheel to the left. Sam complained absently as he slid slightly on the seat. Dean lead the Impala down a few familiar roads before skidding to a stop in front of the hulking ruins of a church.
“Uh, Dean?” Sam questioned, panic evident in his voice. “This isn’t exactly a good solution. Demons can still come into churches.”
“Just trust me, Sammy. Let’s go, move your ass.” Dean threw the door open and sprinted across the uneven cement steps in front of the church. His hand dug into the pocket of his canvas jacket until his fingers closed around piece of cool metal shaped like a pencil. When he withdrew it, the metal had lines cutting along the shaft of it and the top had what looked like a clear crystal attached.
Dean inhaled a sharp breath and began to draw the tip over his skin, ignoring Sam’s look of shock when stark, black lines began to rip across his skin with the look of burning embers in the wake of the crystal.
When he’d drawn what appeared to be an eye on the back of his right hand, he tucked the metal back into his pocket and pounded his flat palm against the door of the church.
“Open up, you son’s-a-bitches! There are demons out here, come on!” Silence answered him. He slammed his hand against the door again. “You owe me this! Open the damn door! Maryse! Robert!”
“Dean, where the hell are we? Who are you talking to?” Dean pointedly ignored Sam.
“You can’t just ignore your son! I’m a Lightwood and I am requesting access to the New York Institute! Let us in!”
“A Lightwood? What does that--.” Sam was cut off when, suddenly, the church shimmered around the edges like the feeling of waking from a dream and he was suddenly faced with a massive, intricate building that looked like it had been pulled from a painting. “Holy shit…”
Behind them, there was a roar of one of the demons that had been following them and both men spun on their heels, their guns lifting to their shoulders immediately. Dean didn’t flinch when the doors behind them opened and a shimmering whip cracked forward, the glowing strand of it wrapping around one of the two demons at the base of the stairs and tearing through its flesh until it disappeared in a plume of smoke. The other demon reared back with its gnarled teeth bared, but a silver arrow tore through his throat and he was gone as well.
Dean lowered his gun slowly, his green eyes surveying the area for more demons. He barely had a chance to relax when he heard a voice that he hadn’t in years, but one that was still all too familiar behind him.
“Dean?” It was all to easy to remember the voice squeaky with youth and excitement. He took a steadying breath and turned to face the man in front of him with a cocky smile.
“Hey, Alec.” He greeted casually, resting his sawed-off against his shoulder. “You got taller, little brother.”
******************
“Dean, what are you…where have you been?” Alec stammered, raking his hands through his messy black hair. After being ushered inside the Institute, Alec had dragged them down the halls to the briefing room where Dean was now leaning against the table with his arms crossed over his chest.
“Around. Making my way through the country with Sammy, taking out demons that the Shadowhunters are missing.” Sam was staring between the two of them with his jaw hanging open with mild disbelief.
“It’s been….it’s been fifteen years, Dean. You didn’t call, you didn’t send a fire message. I thought you were dead.” Alec’s voice was tinged with anger as he spoke. Isabelle had been uncharacteristically silent through the exchange, but when Dean’s gaze caught hers, she automatically walked forward and pressed herself to him, her arms wrapping tightly around his waist. Dean’s arms went around her with a shuddered sigh, and he pressed a kiss to the top of her head.
“Hey, Iz.” He whispered, breathing in the scent of his sister and letting his eyes close briefly. “I missed you.” Izzy nodded slightly against his chest before she pulled back and slapped the same spot, making him flinch.
“Don’t run off again. You hear me?” Dean chuckled softly and nodded.
“Can’t get rid of me twice.” Alec was staring skeptically, his eyes narrowed, and laser focused on Dean. “I’m sorry I left, Alec. I should’ve told you before I went, but I knew that you’d want to come with me, and I couldn’t have taken care of you. Leaving was the best option. That’s not an excuse for not telling you, but it’s why I did what I did. And I’ve missed you guys ever since.”
Alec’s silence stretched between them for what seemed like an eternity before he stepped into the circle of Dean’s arms, leaning down slightly to hug his brother in a crushing embrace.
“Don’t go again. She couldn’t handle it.” Alec’s voice wasn’t loud enough for anyone else to hear, and Dean couldn’t help the clench in his chest when Alec added, “Neither could I.” When Alec pulled back, Dean cuffed him lightly on the chin with a suspiciously damp sounding chuckle.
“When did you get taller than me? I’m supposed to be the big brother. This is just rude. You and Sammy both. Brothers and adopted brothers are not supposed to outgrow their older siblings, that’s law.” Alec smirked and pulled a half shrug in response. “Speaking of adopted brothers…where’s Jace?” The question was laced with caution. Shadowhunters historically didn’t always live long and Dean was secretly concerned about seeing pain across Alec’s face.
“He’s with Clary, they’re on patrol.” Isabelle supplied. Dean raised an eyebrow curiously. “Oh! Right! You haven’t met Clary. You’ll love her, she’s great. And Magnus! You have to meet Magnus. He’s a warlock.”
“And my boyfriend.” Alec added softly, his gaze catching Dean’s with a heavy weight to it. Dean simply smiled.
“Well, then I have a Shovel Talk to have with this warlock, don’t I?”
“I’m sorry to break up this…reunion, but can someone please tell me what the hell is going on?” Sam interjected, throwing his hands up in exasperation.
“I, uh,” Dean scrubbed a hand over his face wearily before looking at Sam. “This is my family. My little brother, Alec, and my little sister, Isabelle. The Lightwoods.”
“What the hell do you mean your family? I’m your family…I’m your brother.” Dean nodded slowly.
“You are my brother. My adopted brother. Alec and Isabelle are blood.” Sam stared at him silently, obviously waiting for him to continue. “When I was fifteen, I ran away from my family. My father and mother were trying to convince me to do something that would have been catastrophic, so I left. Alec and Izzy were just kids. And Jace.”
“But you…I remember you being there my whole life. Dad has pictures of you when you were a kid.” Sam shook his head in disbelief.
“I worked with a warlock to put that in place. She helped me to make Dad think that I had been there forever. Both of you. I’m sorry that I never told you, Sammy, but you have to know that I would have told you if I could have. If I brought it up, the glamour would’ve worn off.”
“Glamour? What the hell does that mean? What’s happening?!” Sam was getting louder by the second and Dean reached out a hand to steady the other man. He couldn’t hide the flinch when Sam ripped his arm away and glared at Dean. He pointed at the mark on the back of Dean’s hand. “And that. What’s with the weird tattoo?”
“It’s not a tattoo. It’s a rune. Shadowhunters use them to enhance their natural abilities to be better, faster, and stronger.” Izzy supplied helpfully. At least Dean was sure that was the intention, instead it earned her a glare from Sam.
“A….Shadowhunter. What the hell does that even mean?”
“It’s a race. Humans mixed with Nephilim. They’re a race that was born to protect mundanes from the shadow world.” Alec replied.
“If you think that explains things, I have news for you.” Dean sighed loudly.
“Demons, warlocks, werewolves, vampires. Downworlders. That’s what they mean. We’re the race that keeps demons and their BFF’s from chowing down on the average Joes.”
“Mundanes? We? Dean, this isn’t you. You’re my brother. You’re a hunter.”
“I am. But, I’m also a Shadowhunter. And I’m also their brother. I know that this is probably hard to understand, but--.”
“It’s not hard to understand, Dean. Think about all the crazy shit that we’ve seen over the years. There’s not a whole hell of a lot that I would consider hard to understand.” Sam shook his head slightly before turning his gaze back on Dean. “I just don’t know why you didn’t tell me sooner.”
“It was to protect you. You gotta believe that, man. If you’d known about all this, about what I really am? You’d have been in danger. You and dad.”
“For once you’re speaking some sense.” Came a voice from the other side of the room and every head turned toward it. Dean froze, the tension in his shoulders obvious.
“Robert.” He croaked out, cursing the fact that his voice quivered.
“Robert, is it? I suppose that a decade and a half changes how you view a person, but the last time we spoke, I was ‘father’ to you still, Dean.” Robert walked closer, his arms behind his back when he began to circle Dean.
“Yeah, well. The last time we spoke wasn’t exactly high up on the good memory list, so you’ll forgive me if I tried to push aside the fact that we share blood.” Robert quirked a brow slowly.
“I see your mother’s personality still runs through you like wildfire.” As if on cue, Maryse Lightwood emerged from the same door her husband had and she stood stalk still, her eyes laser focused on Dean.
“Mom.” Dean breathed out, his hands clenching and unclenching at his sides frantically. He wanted to run to her, to feel his mother’s arms around him again, but her ridged posture made his feet feel like cinder blocks.
“Do my eyes deceive me?” Maryse questioned softly, and he wished that he could read her tone better. He shook his head jerkily.
“No, I,” Dean cleared his throat and tried again. “No. I’m here.”
“Bold of you to return after abandoning your family the way you did.” Her words stung like a dagger in the gut, but the tears that she was obviously trying to contain gave him hope. “Come here.”
Dean’s feet were moving before he could convince himself that it was a bad idea, and he was stepping into Maryse’s open arms. He couldn’t remember the last time that she’d held him this way. Perhaps when he’d been sick as a very young child, but Maryse Lightwood was not quite the “warm and fuzzy” type of parent.
“I missed you.” He mumbled out where his face was pressed to her shoulder, his arms sliding around her and clutching the black fabric of her dress for all that he was worth. He inhaled the scent of patchouli and mint, the scent that he’d always associated with fleeting affection from his mother, and he had to swallow around the lump in his throat.
“Oh, my boy, I’ve missed you too.” Maryse’s voice was soft against Dean’s temple and her hands trailed his back a bit awkwardly. He clung to her, reluctant to let go after fifteen years without her.
“Maryse is hugging someone…who died? And who’s the giant?” Dean knew that voice, it had been the one that he had heard through the halls while its own chased Alec through the halls when they were “training”.
He straightened up and turned to face the doorway, keeping quiet and waiting for a response from the blonde man in front of him. Jace had grown into a tall, broad man (not that he could be surprised, it had been quite a while since he’d seen his adopted brother), but there was still a glint in his golden eyes and the quirked lips of a cocky smile that screamed Jace Wayland.
The sound of Jace’s gear bag hitting the floor echoed through the now silent room like a gunshot, startling the, admittedly adorable, redhead beside him. His boots thudded loudly as he strode toward Dean, who braced himself for a punch that was sure to knock him off his feet.
Instead, what he got was a bear hug of epic proportions and a snarled “fuck you for leaving, asshole” with a suspicious sniffle against his ear. Dean folded his arms around Jace equally as tight, not giving half a damn that he couldn’t breathe.
“Missed you too, pretty boy.” Dean chuckled, his chest warm with affection. He had his family back. His whole family.
