hi! i haven’t seen mickeyless seasons so i wanted to ask if ian ever has issues about being bipolar like he did with mickey? like him breaking up in s5 for not wanting to see mickey hurt and s10 when he asks if he’s crazy for wanting to be with him! i think i read somewhere that caleb? maybe had a talk about self love or whatever to ian but that dude was horrendous ( not that trevor was best for what ive seen ) so im not sure that counts ahah
hi anon!
yes, ian grappling with his disorder is a very very big theme throughout seasons 6, 7, 8, and 9. in fact i would argue that aside from him becoming an EMT, the bipolar storyline is his most significant one (i typed out my response and it got very long so i'm going to put it below the cut 💛)
in s6 he is fresh off of the diagnosis, the breakup, and coping with mickey going to prison (and he was definitely trying to cope, he still loved him and seeing someone you love locked up is immeasurably hard. i feel like we don't talk about this enough). he feels very aimless and it isn't until an incident (he's a bystander to a car crash and rescues a woman from a burning vehicle) that he finds his new path (becoming an EMT, which he does by the end of s6). caleb was absolutely awful in so many ways but the one good thing he did do was encourage and support ian in finding a new life path, which is the only credit i will give him. there's also a deleted scene in s6 that is so, so important re: understanding how mentally ill people are viewed and treated in society and of course ian's monologue about how he's good at his job because of his illness, which is one of my favorite scenes in the entire show.
in s7, he's getting healthy again and taking his meds, but it isn't without struggle. there's a very poignant and important scene (part one, part two) with lip where he expresses his struggles with his disorder and how hard it is for him to cope with taking his meds and listening to the warning signs for episodes (he was behaving in ways akin to a hypomanic episode/showing signs of slipping into an episode just before the conversation happens). by the end of the season, after he leaves mickey at the border, he's still relatively stable, but the emotional triggers of leaving mickey behind + monica's death start to take a toll on him, which we see in s8. there's also the trevor of it all in s7, but that's a whole other issue. trevor did not have a positive impact on ian's self-esteem whatsoever and even went so far as to demand ian forgive monica and "move on" after knowing 0.1% of the history between the two of them. that scene in particular makes me unfathomably angry and i just know it was deeply, deeply triggering for ian to hear that from someone he cared about.
in s8, we have the gay jesus storyline, which i absolutely detest and hate to discuss, but it's part of his story and it needs to be acknowledged. he's taken advantage of a lot this season, propelled towards some sort of fucked up end goal with very little control over his circumstances, and it quickly spirals out of control. while the writers never explicitly state that ian is hypo/manic during this season, you can watch the progression happen if you pay close enough attention. despite not being given a lot to work with, cameron did a great job at playing the nuances of bipolar disorder this season, showing ian's descent into hypo/mania as the gay jesus movement grows and warps.
in s9, he's in prison for the first time and is noticeably manic. after being released, he starts seeking out meaning and purpose in religion. eventually he's forced to face the consequences of his actions and pleads not guilty to arson by reason of insanity, not only defying the wishes of the gay jesus followers (they feared him going public with his diagnosis and pleading insanity would delegitimize the movement) but also finally choosing to really acknowledge his disorder, reckon with it, and make peace with it, in a strange sort of way. it's a very important and pivotal moment for his character and cameron absolutely delivers during his plea monologue.
if you've see s10 you know how his self-worth takes a hit regarding the marriage storyline, and how he's so terrified of marrying mickey because 1) he doesn't know if he's capable of being a good partner because he doesn't feel like he had good examples of healthy marriage standards growing up and 2) he isn't sure mickey knows what he's signing up for re: his disorder and everything it entails. which, of course, is not the case, because mickey doesn't love him in spite of his disorder, he loves him completely, and his disorder is just a part of that. he wants all of him, always, and that's a huge plot point in s10 and s11 ("i gotta worry, you're my husband" scene my absolute beloved).
anyway. the short answer is that yes, ian spends a lot of time grappling with his disorder and the realities of life as a bipolar human. he deals with issues regarding his self-worth, his purpose, and his relationships. speaking as a bipolar individual, i can say with absolute certainty that coming to terms with your diagnosis is a long, arduous process that takes many years and a lot of commitment to achieve. it's not easy, and though the writers dropped the ball on a LOT of storylines in the show, they did a pretty damn good job of showing how hard it is to cope and live with the realities of bipolar disorder and everything that entails.
if you ever want to see more of his journey, gallavichscenes on youtube has playlists of all of ian's scenes in season 6, season 7, season 8, and season 9. i highly recommend watching the show in its entirety but if you don't want to do that, i recommend at the very least watching the rest of ian's storyline. it colors so much of his story and mickey's and it's hard to fully comprehend the extent of their relationship without understanding that storyline. i hope this answered your question! sending tons and tons of love 💛

Angus loyal follower here I love your posts I actually started reading hilson fic because of you even though I’ve never seen the show and I never will because once I heard Hugh lauries voice in a fancam and it was so unsexy also they filmed a lot of b roll at my school anyway Seeing your destiel post was so surprising to me please tell me more about your spn opinions I’m so curious I love discourse <3
very long answer so i’ve hidden it under a readmore for the sanity of casual dash scrollers and people who dont care
first off his american voice or his british voice? this is kind of controversial and may seem wild considering i spend a solid chunk of time thinking about what house would be like during sex but i ACTUALLY find him deeply unattractive. i’d love to have his face and wear his skin but never in my life would i consider him a sexual being. he’s too british for it. the only way british people can be sexy is if they are women this is my most political belief on foreign policy. however i do think hugh laurie’s AMERICAN voice is actually very normal and makes him very endearing to me. hilson fic is awesome but honestly!!! most hilson fic for me just does not hit the same unless u can visualize the creepiness with which house looks at wilson. it’s genuinely sickening. he talks about wilson in the softest voice. so many of the most iconic lines in the show just dont HIT the same if u dont listen to the way they’re delivered.
that is SO cool that they shot b roll at ur school though!!! honestly seems like a dream. if i knew i had walked the same halls the house film team had i think i would die. the camerawork on that show is just fucking PHENOMENAL. i could write entire essays fangirling over how they shoot certain scenes but i fear that would be chronically desperately boring
oh man my supernatural opinions… first off disclaimer i have not seen supernatural recently because i am a deeply paranoid individual and prone to delusions and when i first watched the show i genuinely convinced myself that the monsters were real so. i think my most controversial spn opinion would have to be that it’s a PSYCHOLOGICAL THREAT. have you ever met a normal supernatural fan? NOBODY HAS. BECAUSE THE SHOW DRIVES PEOPLE NUTS
other than that my opinions are pretty normal i thiunk. i actually dont have anything at all against destiel even though i am solidly on the wincestie side of fandom. i dont care for the ship and i think it sucks but OBJECTIVELY its a good ship and has strong canon support. i think my hatred comes because i have read SO many destiel fics and have yet to come across a genuinely good one that accurately portrays the characters. i dont understand why an objectively reasonable ship with strong canon support has created some of the middest fic ive ever read in my life. genuinely fascinating. it’s not even that the fic itself is not good or entertaining it just doesn’t feel anything like the actual canon dean and castiel! i have read like two genuinely entertaining destiel fics that felt realistic and BOTH were from authors who primarily write samdean so!!
other controversial spn opinions i have. the “chuck is god” stuff is by far the most entertaining late seasons retcon. objectively ridiculous but so goddamn amusing. i think season 8 and the leviathans was the peak of supernatural. by far the best season in my opinion. plotwise it was not the most believable but i strongly believe that what makes a story good is not it’s logical soundness nor it’s objective value but whether it is ENTERTAINING and COMPELLING and by god the leviathans were both of those things. what a season. also benny and dean were having sex. i loved castiel going insane. OH and i think endverse spn is overhyped both as an episode and in fanon! i did not understand what endverse referred to for so long because i couldnt comprehend that SO MANY PEOPLE could possibly by THAT fanatic over a very mid episode.
not a controversial opinion but rowena is hot. she should've been in every episode for this reason alone. last semester i set up an office meeting with my professor who looked JUST like her to shoot my shot and she literally died before the meeting could happen. i've always felt in my heart that these are related.

Never really been that interested in object shows but I may check some out of curiosity, I may like them. Any you recommend?
Besides the one you are clearly super hyperfixated about.
Dagdszhdshf give it a week or so the spaceboy brainrot will come out stronger lol im not done thinking abt that silly guy
Anyways, as for object show recs, ive only really mostly seen the big ones but yea i guess im recommending those to you gdsdshdh
1. Battle For Dream Island - 5 Seasons Long, 1 ongoing, 63 episodes so far according to google
This one's a certified™ classic, the first object show created! It's hella long though lol but its charming and silly! I haven't rewatched bfdi in a while but from what I remember it's mostly silly and hashtag random™ with a few emotional moments. The animation of older seasons still hold up i think? It gets better at season 4 though imo. Also BANGER OST IN S4/5
2. Inanimate Insanity - 3 Seasons Long, 2 ongoing, 40 episodes total so far
The second object show ever!!! Another classic.
Season 1 SUCKS but I promise it gets better in Season 2!!! You could skip season 1 but season 2 will reference things and continue from things that happened in season 1, so you'll be losing that context. If you're not sure how much of season 1 you're willing to endure, there's this handy infographic of what episodes to watch from this video by iAnimate38! Far left being least interested in season 1, and far right being interested in seeing it all!
Tumblr media
I'd describe II as equal parts fun and an emotional ride! Also they sometimes sing in season 2 if thats like. important to you dgasgdshd
And now i talk abt object shows other than the big two ones
3. The Daily Object Show - 8 Seasons, Probably Complete, about 50 episodes total i think
This one is insanely short, nearly each episode being no more than 5 minutes long because, well, it did in fact release daily. It's very jokey and silly (like. one of the characters is named Normal Pill hrshrsarhhsr) and you could absolutely finish this show in a day if you wanted to
4. Brawl Of The Objects - 1 Season, Complete, 13 episodes total
One of my personal faves! I just never talk abt it lol. It's a nice short object show that doesn't go on for more than a season so if you're just looking for something fairly quick (yknow, other than the daily object show sgdshrs), you can check this out! Also a fun one with a lighthearted tone and a side of dark lore and thought out foreshadowing that's helpfully explained in a later video!
Yeah that's the end of my list thanks for coming to my ted talk

hello~!! didja see the journeys ep with paul yet? what did you think of it? 👀
Oh, I sure did! Less than 24 hours after it came out, no less. Which is saying something, since I've not watched any of the Pokémon anime since XY (more had to do with getting rid of cable + general burnout; not to knock on XYZ, but Best Wishes hurt me).
Thoughts on it? Well, a little on the mixed side. Least I can do is go over it in more detail. Without watching Journeys at all outside this episode, I've got the overall gist well enough. So, guess it's time to pick this apart.
Tumblr media
Cramming 2-3 plots in one episode was a misstep imo
I heard the last time Ash's reserve group at Oak's lab was featured in Journeys, it did a less-than-stellar job showing them off. Apparently, a good chunk of them weren't even seen in that episode, let alone had a role in it. This episode rectified that and made sure every single one of Ash's currently-owned Pokémon was at the very least visible, as even the ones who only got background/still-shot moments at least got to display an element of their personality. That much I greatly appreciate. Guess it's inevitable that pulling this off well will only become increasingly difficult as the series presses on with Ash as a protagonist, so at the very least I can respect this episode for going out of its way to make the vast majority of these Pokémon relevant in one way or another.
Tumblr media
Especially since the Fire-type brigade had a special purpose in helping Ash's Gengar learn Will-o-Wisp. And as someone who values the strategic aspect of Pokémon battling, I'm super happy it was this move that Gengar learned and not something like Fire Punch. I enjoyed seeing this being shown in such detail! It really did feel like stepping back to the older seasons that actually put effort into showing off the importance of training.
However, as I watched the episode, I noticed how much time was being invested in these two plot points and remembered this is supposed to be the episode where Paul returns after a 12-year absence...
Tumblr media
And from what I understand, Paul ain't gettin' any more appearances after this. This is it! This is all we get after a decade-plus of nothing!
So, in all honesty, I think at the very least the plot of Ash reuniting with all his Pokémon, Goh properly getting acquainted with them all, and the training for the Masters 8 should have been its own episode. Because I do believe it's very important to honor history and give everybody their due diligence when the anime gives them time to actually show up and matter.
Now, with Gengar learning Will-o-Wisp? That meshes in well with Paul showing up. I'd keep that. But the abundance of nostalgic fluff (that I love, but I gotta tell it like it is) really made this episode feel more than a little truncated in the areas that should have mattered most.
It was a competently written comeback for Paul...
On a superficial note, I am a little bummed that Paul didn't get any tweaks in his design (such as colored irises, which Ash was granted from Best Wishes onward; before then, his eyes were just as dotted and black as Paul's). I certainly didn't expect him to get a new outfit or anything since they didn't give Dawn that much (... from what I recall they DID give that to Serena, buuuut Serena's from the era of customizable PCs so I guess that makes a little more sense? Didn't play Gen IV's remakes, so idk if they offered that in those), but it would've been cool.
Then again, I HAVE heard about the interview in which the logic for never ever letting Ash age for the sake of keeping some "feeling like the first day of summer every day" sentiment... much as I roll my eyes at that, I've pretty much given up on the progression of time EVER being feasible in this series. Up through DP, I could at least pretend Ash was aging a year per major region (minor quests like Orange League and the Battle Frontier didn't warrant full-year lengths to me). At this point, given the design and how many generations we're in now, there's really no other choice than to accept this is basically Anime Simpsons time-wise.
Tumblr media
Paul having his own Gyarados, Garchomp, and Metagross was completely believable, of course. He's been doing this Pokémon training thing just as long as Ash has, and there was zero indication that he would have stopped after Ash beat him. Unlike Gary, Paul didn't decide on a career change. He was set on challenging Brandon again (more on that later...). So, yeah. It would be perfectly logical for Paul to have about as many reserves as Ash. Reggie's got a big-ass backyard for that, after all. And all three of these Pokemon are ones I'd totally see have Paul having on his own journey.
Tumblr media
Would've liked a longer battle, ngl
I'm not sour that Paul lost to Ash again here. Ash losing to Paul at this stage probably would have damaged his cred significantly (considering what all he's accomplished from XYZ and Sun/Moon) - this is right before the Masters 8 stuff starting up, after all.
But I think I would have at least preferred a tie.
Then again, with a certain other plot element I'll get to in a bit, I suppose that might have weakened that message a tad. Really, though, I would've liked a longer battle. I'm just used to Ash/Paul battles being lengthy affairs, full of twists and turns and crazy-ass strategies being utilized. Like, in all fairness, all 3 of Ash's Pokémon gained significant abilities from this battle alone (Lucario got Bullet Punch, Dragonite got a crazy-ass combo move, and Gengar got Will-o-Wisp). I am bummed we didn't get a resurgence of Counter Shield - THAT would've been cool to see make a comeback! And it's one of Ash's few legitimately clever tactics. Though I guess that technique was more of a Dawn-related thing, ultimately. Still, didn't stop Paul from copying it in the Sinnoh League :P I wanna say Dragonite's made-up technique may have been some kind of loose reference/spiritual successor, but in practice it looks like they serve completely different purposes.
Thanks to so much time being eaten up with Ash's Pokémon reunion, there sadly wasn't much left for there to be an epic fight. What little we got was good enough, and it was very nicely animated.
Tumblr media
The real appeal in Paul and Ash's rivalry, though, was in how Paul actually made Ash question himself and his methods/motivations. Paul on the outside came off as someone who should have no business being as good as he is because he isn't all about the "love and friendship" aspect of Pokémon. Naturally we're past that development for both of them, but this extended into their battling as well. Their first full battle was loaded with multiple switch-outs on both ends, Ash being forced to wonder what Paul had planned when something didn't immediately make sense to him, and it was just a glorious display of battling psychology.
I guess switch-outs being forbidden from the off in this battle played a role in how this could have been just a little bit more in-depth. And it'd be foolhardy to just expect this battle to be right up there with both of the full battles that happened in DP. The characters are both in very different places now compared to then.
Still, I couldn't help but roll my eyes a little when Paul actually wondered "Oh shit, is Burn really affecting my Metagross' strength?! The thing that the Burn status effect has always been?!"
ofcoursehefuckingknowshehasafuckingmagmortarwithflamebodyandREALLYfuckedpikachu'sshitwiththeburnstatussowhytheeverlivingfuckisheevenwonderingaboutthistohimselfgoddammit
... a GYM LEADER you say
Tumblr media
So. I'm of two minds about this.
It's REALLY COOL the series itself is acknowledging that Paul is far too talented to just be an aimlessly-wandering nobody trainer and gave him something that'll elevate his status and reflect just how his presence positively affected the series.
Bonus points if (and this is SUPER-DELUSIONAL OPTIMISM btw) Paul actually became a Gym Leader for the next series AND was adopted into the game canon by actually being a Gym Leader in the Scarlet/Violet games.
On the other hand...
Tumblr media
COME ON, HE IS AT LEAST A FRONTIER BRAIN CANDIDATE
YEAH FUCKING REMEMBER THAT? LAST THING WE KNOW PAUL DID POST-LEAGUE WAS GO OFF TO CHALLENGE BRANDON AGAIN.
WHEN ASH BEAT BRANDON, HE WAS OFFERED A POSITION TO BE A FRONTIER BRAIN.
SO EITHER
PAUL BEAT BRANDON BUT TURNED DOWN THE OFFER BECAUSE WHY BE A FRONTIER BRAIN WHEN YOU COULD BE A GYM LEADER AND IT'S NOT LIKE THE ANIME ESTABLISHED FRONTIER BRAINS > GYM LEADERS OR ANYTHING OH WAIT YES IT HAS
"It’s a group of facilities, somewhat like a Gym, but more intense where you challenge and battle against an amazing group of powerful trainers called Frontier Brains." -Brock
OR
PAUL JUST NEVER DEFEATED BRANDON I GUESS
(also lowkey I really really really would've loved for Paul to meet Cynthia again...)
His behavior in the battle this episode DID have him more in, say, a "gym leader's" mindset, I would say. I'd go as far to argue that Paul wasn't really putting his all into any of those matches with Ash. He really seemed interested in drawing out new powers from his opponent. The few times where he shows something of a reaction during the battles, it's when one of the three new powers/techniques started showing that aura-like flare.
I'm certainly not saying Paul wouldn't make for a good Gym Leader. Given the subtle showings of his growth in the episode, such as Infernape actually following Paul's suggestion; something he wouldn't have done in DP regardless of Paul's prior ownership of him... also, him telling Electivire to play and all that, yeah. That's indicative that he's not as excessively rigid as he was before. Paul has the maturity and discipline to be an excellent Gym Leader; certainly 8th Gym Leader material for sure.
My thing is... this is very much beneath him. If the episode had more time, maybe we would have gotten Paul saying that in his pursuit of gaining power, he realized that wasn't ever going to stop someone out there being more powerful than him no matter what he did.
We could have gotten something like, Paul admitting that his fascination with seeing power really felt the most rewarding when his influence drew power out from his opponents.
Looking at the facts, almost every time Paul and Ash battled in DP, Ash would either get one of his Pokémon evolved or they'd learn a significant new move or ability (or technique). Paul is really good at making Ash dig deep and bring out the best in all of his Pokémon.
It stands to reason that Paul's passion might lie in bringing out the true potential of other trainers; it gives him a better battle to have that improves his own team while simultaneously benefiting his opponent.
With a specific sort of focus like this, added with the fact that Paul has zero type preferences of any sort (all we know is that he really likes powerful 'mons who are as good at tanking hits as they are at dishing them out), that really screams "Frontier Brain" more so than "Gym Leader".
In all fairness, it's never outright said whether or not Paul accepted the offer to become Gym Leader. Which can let me headcanon that while he went to Professor Oak to educate himself, it wasn't necessarily to become Gym Leader. Paul's realizing that he can't rely entirely on self-taught methods to ascend in this way of life. Whatever he becomes in the future, Paul's clearly taking the steps necessary to reach the level he seeks to be.
So while I wasn't really thrilled about Paul being used as the "measuring stick" for Ash's chances against anyone in the Masters 8, at least there's an implication that Paul isn't exactly spinning his wheels, either. Much as I'd love to have him be part of the Masters 8 (no guesses on who I'd have him replacing in that), clearly the powers-that-be did not have that intention from the onset.
Hell, one can argue that Paul becoming Gym Leader is just his stepping stone to reach greater heights. After all, it's not uncommon for Gym Leaders to later challenge, on on rare occasions, defeat and replace members of the Elite Four.
So there's an ounce of hope here. Of course, I don't expect we'll ever actually see Paul in the anime again. Maybe 24 years from now. I'll be lucky to be alive by then!
Paul plz
Tumblr media
gawd you're still so tsundere af
Tumblr media
BITCH YOU HAVE BEEN IN NO LESS THAN FOUR POKEWORLD EQUIVALENTS OF THE SUPER BOWL
SHUT YO' ASS UP
I'd post more pics/gifs but I ran my limit now
So uh... yeah! Those are my thoughts on the episode. In a vacuum, it's great, had lots of nostalgic potential and at the very least they didn't completely ruin Paul like they EASILY could have. Kudos on the writers for making him show his maturity through his subtle cues rather than making him overtly friendly like the rest of Ash's recurring posse.
I really do enjoy more strategic elements being employed in the battle and the episode overall. I feel like Gengar's Will-O-Wisp especially will be a game-changer for Ash's chances in the Masters 8.
However, I would've really appreciated having more time, maybe not compact this episode with three major events, y'know? I'm sure there's a filler somewhere in Journeys that could've been trimmed out to facilitate this.
Also not thrilled about the prospect of Paul becoming a Gym Leader as it's very much beneath him (unless this is some clever-ass tie in to the games and god is that ever wishful thinking or his stepping stone to reach the top), but I do like that I can infer that Paul's at least found a reason to battle for his own sake now.
Yeah. Remember when Brandon asked Paul why he battles? We never got an answer to that, ever.
So this might be the closest we get: not a Gym Leader aspiration, but a necessary step in Paul's mission to bring power out in others to improve his own style.
Could use some work, but considering I'm almost certain this is all of Paul we're gonna get from here on out, I'm just gonna treasure and headcanon the hell out of it.

Media Interaction 2022
Part 8: August
Land of the Lustrous - This is probably the most gorgeous-looking anime I have ever seen as well as the most incredible use of CGI in an anime. I loved every moment of Land of the Lustrous and it's a shame the first season goes by so quick in just 12 episodes I wish I could get more.
I will probably continue with Land of the Lustrous by reading the manga at some point in the meantime but its adaptation is just too stunning to anticipate its second season. Anthropomorphism is probably one of my favorite themes in anything but I appreciate it when it's done faithfully to whatever non-human entity the concept is based on. I like that each gem in Land of the Lustrious has its own unique personality and quirks based on its real-life gemstone. I also like the incorporation of the Mohs scale of mineral hardness and how it's essentially used to determine each gem's efficiency in battle. It makes me so elated when this attention to detail is put into designs based on objects or animals and is never just [human version of object]. Besides the excellent world-building and character development, I'm very fond of each gem being basically genderless and sharing very homosexual relationships with each other. The relationship Phosphophyllite developed with Cinnabar is very special to me and I never expected to be so emotionally torn up even by the first episode of watching their interactions with each other. In fact, I have never watched anything that tore me up by the end of just the first episode, excellent anime.
Ergo Proxy - I don't think any other anime will ever be able to top using a Radiohead song as part of its official soundtrack. Besides a stunning ending theme featuring fucking Paranoid Android by Radiohead I think Ergo Proxy also has one of my top favorite Opening Themes in anime. I'm learning that I seem to greatly enjoy media that are both post-apocalyptic as well as sci-fi and Ergo Proxy does everything with these themes that I love. I find the setting of this anime very pleasing to me in how I envision a future where most of humanity is wiped out and society is forced to live an artificial livelihood inside of bubble domes. There are a lot of things this anime has that are very satisfactory to me which are its art style, color pallet, soundtrack, and ambiance. I strongly admire the female lead in Ergo Proxy and feel that Re-l Mayer is written like a real woman with genuine struggles and emotions. I can say the same for Vincent Law and that he is a male lead that isn't overly masculine and has emotions that he isn't afraid to express. Ergo Proxy is one of the few psychological anime that I appreciate because I feel that my brain is just big enough to understand the larger picture. I'm not all that fond of psychological themes in media but Ergo Proxy gives you just enough to work with by the end of each episode for you to further unravel the mystery and I anticipated each episode after the next at least for the first 12 episodes. After the first half of Ergo Proxy, I did feel it tends to drag along and have some very unusual filler episodes. I'm not sure if I could even call them filler because no matter how "off" they felt from the main story they still had a purpose in explaining what was happening. I would like to add that Ergo Proxy is also another one of the top animes I've watched that has an excellent English dub.
SMT IV: prayers (manga) - This is a 2-volume mini-series set in an alternative setting following the character Jonathan. SMT IV Prayers is ok at best but it being just ok is what dissatisfies me. Of the two characters Jonathan and Walter, Jonathan is my favorite and it's disappointing to see his story fall so flat in comparison to the other mini-series following Walter. The art style isn't the worst but it's not the greatest either the only good-looking character is Jonathan but besides that all the other character designs make me wanna take a nap. I don't have very much to say about Jonathan's mini-series and I think the newly added character introduced in his story is just a very two-dimensional edge lord that wants revenge on demons.
SMT IV: demonic gene (manga) - This is the other mini-series following Walter in an alternative setting. I liked this mini-series a lot better than the story following Jonathan even though Jonathan is my favorite. I think the art style is very good and I liked seeing all the characters in SMT IV be adapted in the author's style. The story is a little more interesting and I like the new character introduced in Walters's alternative setting vs the character introduced in Jonathan's alternative setting.
Dead Dead Demon's Dededededestruction - This was my first time reading anything by Asano Inio and I have been made very well aware his works are pure depression and misery despite having absolutely gorgeous imagery and lovely character designs. I was always drawn to this manga over his other work, Goodnight Punpun which I have seen is wildly popular but I was just in love with all the character designs I had seen when first introduced to Dead Dead Demon. This manga was very political and I didn't expect that but that's what made me enjoy it. I think Dead Dead Demon has a very brutal and realistic depiction of how the world would actually react if aliens came to Earth. When aliens invaded Tokyo it was nothing like a Hollywood blockbuster movie. It was an intense heated political climate. You have one side of the political spectrum that believes aliens are "invading our country" and we should kill them vs the other side of the political spectrum that believes that we should make contact with Aliens and coexist with them. There is a pretty big underlying theme of xenophobia depicted in Dead Dead Demon but it is very unfortunate that this theme is literally thrown away after chapter 80 in fact anything after chapter 80 is thrown away. I was very disappointed by the ending, to say the least. I loved the bond that Kadode and Ontan had with each other and I think things really kick into high gear when you learn the meaning of Ontans existence in Kadodes relationship. I think they should have been girlfriends that being said I would have rather it ended with everyone dying in the explosion and Ontan and Kadode spending their final moments with each other after they kissed. I was truly prepared for a miserable ending after being made aware of the author's previous works and I would have accepted that kind of ending over the one we get. I really don't care if the ending fixes everything and makes it a happy ending it literally feels like Dead Dead Demon got axed at the last moment. While reading this I heard there is an anime adaptation coming out at some point and I am rather excited but I do fear this will be an anime that will have terrible reception if it hits western audiences for many reasons despite that, I give Dead Dead Demon a solid 10.

who is anonymously asking me about fp that is crazy.... havent had one of you in months lmao welcome
4. If you could put this character in any other media, be it a book, a movie, anything, what would you put them in?
sons of anarchy absolutely. he would probably die immediately but not if I wrote him. write him as a proper gang leader and not the bitch ass nonsense we got
8. What's something the fandom does when it comes to this character that you despise?
the shorter list is what dont they do... i absolutely HATE the woobification/daddyfication of fp jones. and they go hand in hand. everyone wanted to fuck skeet so bad so the writers completely changed his character from being morally grey, shitty but trying father with a serious alcohol problem in season 1 to making him some unsung hero, can do no wrong, kind of man alice fucking cooper of all people would blow up her life for (please be so incredibly serious....). what they did to that man.... i hope i never see it again that was the WORST character regression ive ever seen in my life. and everyone ate that shit up. because people who watch the cw and riverdale specifically have incredibly rotted brains (i can say this as a cw watcher tho i havent watched a show on there in ages. i am NOT riverdale watcher ive only ever seen 1 complete episode i was just watching parent scenes)
24. What other character from another fandom of yours that reminds you of them?
so fp is very much My Type™ when it comes to characters so like he literally reminds me of all of them lmfao but the two i go with the most are shawn hunter (boy meets world) and billy hargrove (stranger things. although....they came out at the same time relatively so its really just about the curse of me being drawn to sad substance abusing men with daddy issues.... and anger issues....and being gay.... shawn also falls into this category of course)
shawn and fp also share the trailer park upbringing. all 3 share abusive dads. crushes on sunshine boys. it really is all there lmao im a very predictable person

Hey song!
Scicraft is so cool and it honestly checks out that they’re german. who else. I’m pretty sure that I will only ever be able to watch it through mumbo though because otherwise I will have even less of a clue what’s going on.
I started hermitcraft late season 7, yeah! I was super excited with hermitcraft 8 so I binged a bunch of stuff. I’ve seen all of grian, mumbo, and iskall’s season 6? I think? and the recap for season 6. Ive watched a few scar episodes from back then too. I still love watching Gem though so some things never change.
New scar and beef episodes! scar is lore-ing and it’s hilarious but what’s more hilarious is beef just...carrying on. he missed the whole king thing because he went “I am going to map pixel art a whole tcg” and he’s 10000 blocks away from the rest of the server with no cares for what they’re doing. I love that.
I am going INSANE I think it all starts tomorrow? I’m terrified. I need to have some answers. I don’t need the full thing just some answers pleeeeease (good luck to you keeping up!)
-• (good night!)
good morning •!
honestly, i don’t engage in scicraft much outside of the mumbo tour either, i’m just incredibly enamored by them through the pov of mumbo jumbo that i feel like i need to recommend those videos to everyone i come across.
hc season 8 honestly popped off, i did go slightly feral during that season it was so good. i think the condensed season made the hermits more active and engaged which brought around so much silly and i loved it. i also loved season 7, and it still feels so recent to me it’s so weird that we’re two seasons out from it because that whole season felt like it just happened yesterday. I also fully approve of your top hermit choice, Gem is so cool i love her
i haven’t had time to watch the new scar episode yet (yesterday i literally only had one hour of free time between 8am and 9pm and i just passed out after that lol) but i will watch it today! scar lore is always funny because scar is not an actor but tries so hard and i love him for it. i haven’t watched beef actively in a while, but it is so iconic of him to just vibe in the outskirts of the map and not engage in anything. there’s always one who just doesn’t partake in the server lore lol
I AM SO EXCITED FOR THE EPISODES i hope they come out today because i have time to watch. i am almost caught up on Lizzie’s pov of empires (and it all seems pretty tied together for the larger server lore so i feel like i can ride off of that for a while whist catching up on individuals). i’m pretty sure i’m on episode 6(?) and i am convinced that she is a cat i’m just waiting for the reveal at this point.
anyway i’m pumped for whatever happens in the next few days, and i’m excited to rant with you about it when it happens! i feel caught up enough lol. (i hope)

Reasons Why Everyone Should Watch Drawtectives:
(aka - a passing thought kickstarted my brainrot for drawtectives again and i just needed to yell abt it someone else please go here with me)
(no cut bc im on mobile and sont understand how tumblr work! Apologies!)
1. If you know drawfee that should already be a sign that drawtectives is just /so fun/ and /very/ funny and chaotic and already that should be enough tbh
2. Julia has so clearly put so much care into this show and like?? the art??? everything, (especially from the new season bc that's fresher in my mind) that she'll prep and then just Not Use bc the others just ignore it??? Yall its so good and there's so much xare put into it and just-
3. It is truly one of the only shows ive ever watched that has me in tears from laughter during like, most of the episodes. Its genuinely so funny and good yall
4. Have i mentioned that i love all the PCs? Please theyre so good yall. Like i just,,,,, i live grandma and york and rose all so much theyre just /so/ good.
5. York Lore. That's it. If youve ever improvised lore for a character and then had to stick with it? That. Its so good.
5.5. Jacob starting to read smth and then going "I CANT FUCKING READ" bc he decided once that york cant read and now has to stick with it & its truly one of the funniest things ever i love it so much
6. Eugene is literally the prettiest boy ive ever seen amd also I love him and yall do you know how hard it is to get me to have brain rot over male characters???
6.5. I was never really an art person so i dont really draw HOWEVER, the Two Men i would like to get good enough to draw are Apollo Justice of Ace Attorney Fame and Eugene Drawtectives. I cannot understate how rare it is to get me attached to make characters and YET Julia has managed to do exactly that with her wonderful son
7. Have I mentioned how much effort and love goes into this show?? Genuinely, every episode I watch I'm like "god I hope Julia knows how much I adore this" like just- YALL. Its so good and so much work goes into and every episode has me in literal awe? Like,,, Do you ever watch a show and it leaves you with the feeling of like, if you werent terrified of the internet/people that you would find a way to @ the creator(s) and just tell them how much you love their show bc it makes you happy and it has you going feral every new episode and you just want them to know that their effort and work on the show is extremely appreciated? Yeah, Drawtectives makes me feel that literally every episode.
8. Jancy!! I love her. I miss her. Drawtectives is worth to watch just for her tbh
9. Have I mentioned that the PCs are all basically in a qpr/relationship/something and that theyve all adopted Eugene as their son yet? yall i dunno how to describe it but it's good shit. They're best friends and they're in love and I love them & will absolutely die on this hill okay? They're a FAMILY and I love them
10. I am not someone who rewatches media easily. I have considered rewatching drawtectives more than once.
11. I keep coming back to this but yall its the amount of work and effort put into this show that really gets me. Bc its like, its like watching an actual play, so already y'know there's work going in there. But then you have the fact that this isnt just dnd and a podcast or dnd and its recorded with cameras like there's art and assets and the mouths are animated to move and the faces change and- like there's little animations done to match the vibe visually and its so good and i can only imagine it takes like forever and it's just. I keep coming back to the work that goes into it bc thats genuinely part of what i appreciate? Like its a good show and i love it and I'd love it regardless, but theres smth abt all the effort that goes into it that just makes me more *gently holds* abt the show, yk?
Just,,,, yall this show is so fun and it makes me happy and i have had so much brainrot for the show recently like very "I'll have one passing thought and think abt it again" and i just,,,, it's so good. I need more people to go here so i can subject people to my stupid headcanons more often,,, please,,,
(also! If it sweetens the deal at all, drawtectives s2 (current ongoing season) can be watched without s1! you may miss a couple of references here and there but thats abt it!)

10 Anti LO Asks
1. There was a person saying they want Demeter and Hades to be friendly with each other. I understand their relationship in the myth is not that because Hades took Persephone from her and asked Zeus not Demeter (I guess in ancient greece it was more customary to ask the father and not the mother) I'm kinda confused
From OP: I had to fix some of this ask (spelling) because I couldn’t understand it at all. So, I’m sorry to the anon if this isn’t exactly what you were saying.
2. I’m sorry but a confident and talented writer should not be taking suggestions from their fans for plot ideas. If she wants feedback that’s one thing, but straight up telling her what to write? That’s not good?
3. Just get ready for LO fans to claim the bestseller lists are rigged because LO .1 only ranked showed up on two lists (#4 for USA Today, which is good!) and #58 on Amazon (which is slowly dropping) and didn’t rank on anything else, especially not NYT like they were gearing up for.
4. Honestly I feel like RS butchered Persphones character. Season one she’s shy naive, but talented amd smart with hints of blowing up. Season two she’s everything and anything, she’s not a special goddess just the most powerful beautiful intelligent goddess there ever was. Remember when school was important to Persphone? Not anymore she just wants to take over the underworld with hades only doing 1 month of classes. Oh and future dread queeen? She still crying her eyes out during the trial. Persphone was hinted to be more than what she is.
5. oh no, not LO not making NYT like Webtoons desperately wanted and LO fans screaming foul about it. Anyway -
6. if one of her tumblr followers suggested persephone be r//ped to make LO "more mature" and she seriously went with it to seem like a Big Serious Wrier™️ then we need to find that person and beat them up. violence is no the answer but it is now.
7. i agree w/ other anon. i would have loved if LO was more a look into Persephone's newfound freedom and life as a young adult and then at the very end she meets Hades and it's a wink to the camera about what comes next, but no, let's have this weird, convoluted mess instead of themes Rachel can't depict well and having it more of how Hades "deserves" her while Persephone just floats through the aether of a "plot".
8. Rachel trying to do mature themes is exactly what pushed LO into territory she can't write. There's nothing wrong with it being light, and tbh it benefitted from being that way instead of dark and heavy like mythology is. Idk why she'd make that change when most people wanted a light read and the "mature" themes she can' depict well easily one of the most critiqued and disliked parts about LO as a whole.
9. bruh ive seen so many LO stans be so cruel to other webtoons because theyre not what they like. They nearly ruined the creator behind HxP ficlets' career because they mass spammed her, they harass the PW creator on all her episodes, they harass the BIPOC and LGBTQ+ webtoon creators all the time, they even fight amongst themselves over any disagreement. They have no foot to stand on when they're easily the most hostile and toxic fandom in recent memory.
10. sorry but this whole trial plotline reminds me of the ongoing kenosha trial where the literal murderer is crocodile crying hes just. a kid and is innocent and doesnt deserve punishment (he's even babied by his mother!) and much like lo persephone i just know both of them will get off because theyre privileged brats who will get away with literal murder. i know rachel couldn't have planned for that to be a near perfect comparison but maybe that proves the AOW was a bad idea to begin with.

10 Underrated Quotes from Season 2 of The Mandalorian
As previously seen with season one, I’m here with another list of underrated quotes from The Mandalorian—this time, from season two. I’m going to highlight some of my favorite quotes from the season or quotes that stick out to me and why I think they’re noteworthy.
I don’t own any rights to content from The Mandalorian and, if you haven’t watched season two yet, potential spoilers are ahead!
1. “Pay attention when a superior addresses you.” (Chapter 15: The Believer)
While this scene certainly isn’t underrated, I believe this line spoken by Valin Hess when he finally catches Din Djarin’s attention by the Imperial terminal deserves some reflection. It’s interesting to think about how responding to Hess’ first call of “Trooper” is something Djarin just... wouldn’t think to do, or is something he thought he could get away with. It seems that Mandalorians, while they value their leadership, don’t focus on hierarchical structures in their society, so Djarin isn’t used to having to obey orders like that. It’s even worse that he has to deal with this unfamiliar situation without his helmet for the first time since he was a child. It really draws our attention to how little Djarin knows about the Empire and other organizations outside of his covert.
Tumblr media
2. “This is the Way.” (Chapter 11: The Heiress)
I think many of us can agree that the first time this statement is uttered in this episode, we’re less than pleased about it, thanks to Bo-Katan’s ridiculing tone. When it happens later on, however, there’s so much meaning packed behind the words. First, from Bo-Katan, who has witnessed Mando’s bravery firsthand and has likely realized how wrong she was making assumptions about him based off his covert and his traditions. In return, Mando’s response of the phrase is strained. Why? Well, it’s up to interpretation—but to me, I think it’s because Mando’s in awe of the idea of these Mandalorians who have already proven their abilities to him actually coming to respect him and the Way he’s known ever since he was a child. It was a great moment of reconciliation.
Tumblr media
3. “Is he speaking? Do you... understand him?” (Chapter 13: The Jedi)
Something I love about this line in particular is the way it’s delivered. There’s such desperation concealed behind Mando’s modulator that tells us so much about what he’s been thinking while pacing the forest floor nervously. This desperation also tells us how eager he’s been to communicate with his child. Mando and Grogu have been together for a long time, now, and we know they’ve had plenty of one-sided conversations. I’m sure Mando has longed to know what Grogu’s been thinking in return, and now that he might have an opportunity to, we can really hear that sheer curiosity and desperation in his voice with this line he offers to Ahsoka.
Tumblr media
4. “Jet back, you’re faster that way.” (Chapter 12: The Siege)
I’m sure we all have our mixed opinions about the season one Nevarro crew, but this moment in particular really strikes the depth of their friendship and companionship. Once they’ve all heard about Moff Gideon’s return and his request to get the child once again, there’s no doubt in anyone’s minds that Mando wouldn’t be going back for him immediately. Even though the job isn’t completely done and Greef, Cara, and Mythrol all still need a way out, they don’t even try to ask for Mando’s help. Instead, Cara insists that he gets back as fast as he can, even if that means the three of them don’t make it out themselves. I really love how that shared understanding and dedication to the child in all situations shows their deep friendship amongst the trio (and Mythrol).
Tumblr media
5. “I’ve spent much time on Tatooine. I never saw a Mandalorian there.” (Chapter 9: The Marshal)
Mando’s response to Gor Karesh insisting that he knows of a Mandalorian on Tatooine could potentially be telling us more than we’re aware of. As far as we know, Mando’s only been to Tatooine once—and it was only for two days, tops. But here, he’s saying he’s “spent much time” there, which means it’s possible that Mando lived on Tatooine for a time while the Bounty Hunter’s Guild still operated out of there. If you think about it more, Mando knew exactly where to go for some work in Chapter 5, another hint that there’s more to Mando’s time on Tatooine than we’re aware of. The same thing could be said about his knowledge of Tusken and his friendship with the Sand People. Any time we get a potential hint of Mando’s backstory, I’m excited about it!
Tumblr media
6. “Am I under arrest?” (Chapter 10: The Passenger)
This line comes quickly in the midst of Mando’s conversation with the New Republic pilots in Chapter 10, but I really love it. These few words say a lot about Mando’s character and how he responds to praise. He’s just been told all about his heroics in Chapter 6, when he risked his own life for Lieutenant Davan and reprimanded Mayfeld, Xi’an, and Burg—and when asked whether it was true, Mando offers no confirmation. He doesn’t even own up to his good acts. Instead, he simply acts this question, remaining the practical man we know him to be. This truly shows us the humble nature of Mando and how he tries his best to focus on the present rather than dwelling on things he’s done in the past, good or bad.
Tumblr media
7. “... talent without training is nothing.” (Chapter 16: The Rescue)
On the surface, this seems like a very practical statement that many Jedi make throughout the series (see Ahsoka talking to Mando in Chapter 13 and Obi-Wan talking to Luke in Episode IV: A New Hope). When you think about it more, especially in context, you might be able to see Luke hinting at something much deeper. Luke heard Grogu’s cry for help from the Seeing Stone where it’s very possible Grogu was talking about his desire to protect his father by strengthening his abilities. Luke knows all too well what happens when you abandon training in an attempt to protect those you love—as for him, it didn’t go well. Yoda tried to warn him but he didn’t listen. Now that he’s learned his lesson, Luke can offer this wisdom to a Grogu who wants to keep his father safe. He knows that training first will then allow Grogu to protect himself and his father to his heart’s content, just as Luke was better able to protect his friends in Episode VI after he finished his training.
Tumblr media
8. “Okay, I’m gonna protect you.” (Chapter 14: The Tragedy)
The scene in which this line is delivered is what truly establishes this episode as a tragedy. Mando’s tried three times to break through Grogu’s Force-field—not because he wasn’t thinking, but because he was so desperate—and now he has to come to terms with the fact that he’ll only hurt himself more if he keeps trying it again and again. Mando’s voice is pretty shaky if you listen to it closely enough in these lines, reluctant to leave his child atop the mountain alone but eager to protect him somehow. We know Mando doesn’t like to feel helpless, but we can sense he feels that way in this moment. He doesn’t even know if Grogu can hear him, yet he keeps speaking to him with such fierce protectiveness and reassurance. This is a promise he doesn’t fall through with, even if Grogu does fall into the Imperials’ hands for a time.
Tumblr media
9. “Give it to me.” (Chapter 15: The Believer)
This is the moment where we all really knew what was about to go down. What I love about this quote is that Mando says it with no remorse. He says it firmly, insisting upon doing whatever it takes to get those coordinates and get to Grogu. He’s already made up his mind. Despite the fact he gave his word earlier about not showing his face, Mando’s going to do what he has to for his son. The firm way this line is delivered proves that, especially when he shifts from taking a backseat to Mayfeld to taking charge again as he pulls the data stick right from Mayfeld’s grip. I just really love Mando’s determination in this scene, despite the circumstances.
Tumblr media
10. “I’ll see you again. I promise.” (Chapter 16: The Rescue)
Do I particularly think this line is underrated? No, not the direct meaning of it. But when you watch Star Wars Rebels and think more about the genius of Dave Filoni, there’s a whole new layer of meaning attached to these words. For those who may not have watched the show yet (you definitely should!), Kanan and Hera are two people who care very much for each other (wink wink) who once had to exchange a goodbye very similar to Mando and Grogu. Kanan was about to go on a very dangerous mission without Hera, unsure of what would happen to him, when he delivered these words: “We’ll see each other again. I promise.” This is almost exactly what Mando says to Grogu in the face of their temporary separation. The good news is Kanan and Hera did get to see each other again—but Kanan was changed forever. Will this happen with Mando or Grogu? It’s possible. But it’s just another one of those moments that makes me yell “FILONI!” in Darth Maul style.

no one asked but here’s the anime I’ve watched while in the pandemicverse and my thoughts on them. it’s actually a Lot for me bc I never really watched the genre ever in my life before these quote unquote unprecedented times. and yeah also these are all pretty much only the current popular ones but I’m not sitting through 60 seasons of naruto & friends or something obscure like “my sister turned into a left shoe and jumped 12,000 years into the future” so anyway here ya go
my hero academia: I like this one, it’s fun and upbeat with lots of kooky characters. I heard the fans are cringe compilation station tho but thankfully I can’t read 8/10
demon slayer: still in the process of watching this one and it slaps but man it definitely loses some points for me when they introduce those super demon slayers whatever they’re called, the ones w/ the single personality trait each and the worst character designs in history. legit looks like the circus came to town whenever they’re on screen. 8/10
jujutsu kaisen: i, from the bottom of my heart, don’t understand the plot of this one at all but the art style and soundtrack are completely insane 9.5/10
dr. stone: one of my favs this show literally gets me hyped over some guy making a lightbulb 10/10
bungou stray dogs: I thought this was like your boilerplate anime before I realized i was watching two anime emo supremes fight f. scott fitzgerald on top of blimp that’s actually moby dick reimagined and careening out of the sky at 1000 miles an hour then I figured it was actually something really special 10/10
one piece: I did not and will not watch all 1000 episodes of this but I hear it play on tv when my husband watches it and it makes him super happy and I love him so 10/10 ❤️
promised neverland: I can’t remember watching this but it’s showing up as continue watching on hulu so uh 3/10
attack on titan: 3 seasons of ??? and then another of war crimes idk maybe 6.5/10 because I think the plot is interesting but a little 2 scary 4 me
tokyo ghoul: what a darksided sad depressing show why do you all like it so much are you okay. i seriously thought I’d need (more) therapy after season 1, season 2 was boring, and then it became completely unwatchable 2/10
blue exorcist: fun show but ended as soon as it really started, legit a prologue to a show that never came so that was weird 6/10 (no I’m not checking out the books i don’t need supplemental reading material for anime)
fire force: thought it was cute at first then it got very strange and intense. plot is complete mumbo jumbo but im always rooting for fire feet boy so I guess it’s good because it makes me care. also the second intro song fucks 8/10
tokyo revengers: actually a very poignant story about gang violence but also has the most nonsensical use of time travel ive ever seen in a piece of media outside of a m4rvel property but also why are they all like 12 lmao 7/10
one punch man: caped baldy my beloved 100/10

ANIME & MANGA I HAVE BINGED IN THE LAST MONTH: May 2021
I've Been Hunting Slimes for the Past 300 Years and Now Ive Maxed Out My Level: incredibly long name aside, cute af slice of life that suffers Same Face Syndrome. I'm still happy to watch it because of how feel good and fluffy it is though, Im probably gonna forget about it in two or three years tho. 8/10.
Don't Toy With Me, Miss Nagatoro: I found out this was a webcomic first and suddenly all the HORNINESS made so much more sense. A Femdom, Degradation, Humiliation, Dacryphilia Bullies to Lovers story disguised as a high school rom-com which, I'm not going to lie, misses SKEEVY CITY by mere inches on a regular basis. However, I'm a Dom/Switch and this entire relationship sets off my dom brain center like New York City just shy of midnight. So if you're into that sort of scene, this anime is for you. If not, it's still fascinating but you're probably gonna be a little put off by how mean the Girl!Bully is to the guy MC. Unless you find out something about yourself, in which case, congrats! Stay safe, sane, consensual, and learn about the traffic light system on top of safe words, I promise you'll have a better life in general after that. Still Ongoing, currently 10/10.
Fruits Basket: IM GONNA CRY I LOVE THIS ANIME SO MUCH???? The original anime came out when I was in... I think middle school and my parents were really strict on what I watched so I never got to experience the first wave and I never bothered to watch the show ever after I moved out of the house years later. However, now that I'm much older I honestly can say this is one of my favorite anime to date, and all the characters are charming, lovable, with their own problems that I can connect to or sympathize with, and I love the MC which is always a treat tbh. Except Akito. Akito can suck a sandpaper dick. I'm only on S2 tho so no spoilers! Anime 11/10.
Monster Girl Doctor: went in thinking it was gonna be a monster girl who's a doctor with a homoerotic assistant (her name is SAPPHY okay sue me for thinking it) and ended up watching the entire dubbed harem series. Honestly, I've seen worse and this one has consistent follow-through on interesting characters and backstory enough for me to shove aside the blatant under-monstrousness of the female monsters and the harem-ness of everything else. Dubbing is honestly really good, which is a treat, and the monster designs are not the worst and the MC is tolerable. Honestly, I don't mind having watched it! The mix of cgi and the traditional animation together work pretty strangely though, and it often doesn't flow super well. 7.5/10
So I'm a Spider, So What: Dubbed version which honestly isn't that bad. Took me a bit to get into it, but after realizing that it's got a mismatched timeline a la The Witcher, it made so much more sense. Heavily done in cgi, and you can definitely tell between the 2D and 3D animations, but not the worst in the world. I went in not expecting much but it ended up being an Issekai I can stand and even enjoy. On god has a decent story... with the spider. I'd be a liar if I didnt say I skipped some of the human parts just to get back to the best part of the show. 8/10.
Somali and the Forest Spirit: I'm so fucking nostalgic for this thing it makes me want to go and hug my dad. About a human girl under threat of being eaten with a monster-dominated world. Very obvious "humans fear what they don't understand" message but instead of the humans learning tolerance it's what happens when they get annihilated first so like, kudos for the mangaka for having the guts to do that. I cried like a baby regularly. It's really good, I watched the dub and ID WATCH IT AGAIN!!! 9/10.
To Your Eternity: Oh my god. O h my g o d. Fell in love on the first episode, ngl. About if an immortal being learned how to be a person from scratch. I love it. HOWEVER. Keep a box of tissues on you at all times because you're gonna need them. I'm only on EP7 because that's all that's out right now but just know. I love it. Not for everyone but certainly for my "what do we define as human and the human condition" ass. 12/10.
Those Snow White Notes: A sports anime without any sports. About shamisen playing which is cool because I never realized how cool this instrument was??? Its neat af. OP1&2 are by Burnout Syndrom so know theyre fire. Gonna be real, its pretty alright, but not extraordinary. You can tell they were using the characters as archetypes rather than actually characters which kinda kills a lot of the emotional value you could've had, but I'm still gonna watch it. It doesn't make me cringe as hard as other sports anime tho so I consider it toptier in that regards but if you're a big sports anime fan you might be bummed out by it. Every single musical performance is INCREDIBLE tho. A solid 8/10.
Toilet Bound Hanako-kun: THE ART OMFG IT'S SO GORGEOUS. Listen, if you took coptic markers and gave them an animation budget with some manga panel direction thrown in there, that's this anime. It's beautiful. Gorgeous. I'm in love with the aesthetic every second. Story? Really good. Characters? I love the MC and his evil little twin brother asshat. Demons? Not super imaginative but I'm carrying on happy as can be anyways. Dubbing? A bit shaky at times but I found the voices charming if a little off for some of them. I'm already waiting for the second season with popcorn at the ready. 10/10.
Prison School: I watched this directly after Hanako-kun and it was like I got slapped in the face by sweaty unwashed titties and some fedora wearing schmuck's piss kink. No character is likable or redeemable. I finished it, but at what cost? 2/10 and only because a character shit his pants and I laughed.
Sleepy Princess in the Demon Castle: watched this right after Prison School and it was NECESSARY tbh. Its so CUTE and honestly, im not even kidding you, the fucking funniest anime I've seen in months. I watched the dub and the VAs are having the time of their lives working on this anime not just giving it their all but literally just going ham. Its great. If I read this im sure id be bored outta my mind but the VAs giving it a joyous performance make it an insta fave for me tbh. 9/10.
Sk8 the Infinity: i watched the dub with my bro and I can confirm that its a spectacular show because we both loved it and we have vastly different tastes. Incredibly SUSPENSFUL AND STRESSFUL for an anime about skateboarding but we finished it in a single sitting tbh. The last episode is not dubbed for some reason but we still loved it. Like if Free! was less obnoxious but the only fan-service here is Joe ♡ a beefcake who owns my lesbian heart. I think there's exactly one named female character tho and I legit couldn't tell you what it was if there was a gun to my head. So, over all, 9.5/10.
That Time I Got Reincarnated as a Slime: I'm going to be entirely honest, I went in thinking it was going to be a boring isekai of no value. I was right about the Isekai part. It was honestly pretty interesting and focused on nation building like you're playing civilization rather than the usual "Get Stronger" narrative or "Get Some Pussy" narrative most isekais take which is delightfully refreshing. Granted there are flavors of that in this which means it doesn't alienate the big isekai watchers out there, but it's not the whole dish and it doesn't make me want to cringe the same way others do. You've got a slime MC just vibing and building a nation of monsters nbd. Does lose points for making the female monsters more humanoid than their male counterparts but makes them back by only doing perfunctory fan-service and nothing that makes me want to cry... except the butt sumo episode but in fairness it was all a terrible dream. Literally, the MC refuses to dream anymore after that. solid animation, decent voice acting, decent story, made me realize how HUGE this is in the Light Novel community???? There's like 18 fucking novels and that's WILD. 8.5/10.
MANGA:
Spirit Photographer Saburo Kono: a one shot special by the mangaka of The Promised Neverland! Honestly a really delicate touch of both super creepy and really touching, and I'm not gonna lie I'm bummed that this isn't a bigger project but the single chapter makes it a good taste for their style. I've been wondering if I wanna read/watch The Promised Neverland and now I think I will. 10/10
Deranged Detective Ron Kamonohashi: from the mangaka of Hitman Reborn comes this Sherlock and Watson derivative! Not even 20 chapters out yet with a sort of spotty schedule, I honestly love it even thought it's exactly as you expect. HOWEVER. Kamonohashi the "Sherlock" character uses mental pressure to kill all confirmed murderers and it's up to Toto the "Watson" character to save all those people before Kamonohashi kills them! It's just recently introduced a "Moriarty" family of crime lords (not a big spoiler don't worry it was obvious) so the tension surrounding Ron's past is amping up rn. Personally, I think the art is GORGEOUS, the characters engaging, and the story quick enough to keep my interest. Most mysteries are solved within a chapter or two so you're not stuck 20 chapters into one locked room mystery which is just peachy tbh. RN, 10/10. If this gets an anime, I anticipate a legion of fangirls who ship the two main characters along with their many friends. I've been alive too long to believe otherwise.
Don't Toy with Me, Miss Nagatoro: Yeah I read the manga after I watched the show. A slower build than the anime, but it works for the format, if theyd done the same with the show then I don't think it wouldve done as well. Honestly? Cuter tbh but just as horny. You dont start really LEARNING about your character until like, chap 65 tho and no real "drama" happens until like 75. A good chunk of the chapters are like 8pgs so its a breeze to get through. I love these slow burn idiots of the century. 9.5/10 because you can DEFINITELY tell the mangaka does hentai too.
Yugen's All-Ghouls Homeroom: one-shot by the mangaka for Food Wars, it's no wonder there's this constant perviness from the MC, a guy who can see and exorcise spirits. Takes place at an all girl's finishing school with KICK ASS monsters tbh, kinda bummed its not longer. The MC? Blatant monsterfucker who is also a CONFRIMED monsterfucker???? Idk i vibe with that single emotion. Everything else is hit or miss. 7/10 for monsters and cool concept, lost points for the MC very pointedly being okay with admitting he'd wait for the teenagers to be adults tho. Creepy af. Could live without that.
Hell's Paradise: I finished the entire 127chps in 3 days and I was really enthusiastic about it 90% of the time thinking about how deep it was and then I actually thought about it and I ended up being very neutral about the whole thing tbh. The art is fantastic tho, but DEFINITELY deserving of the M rating. Tits. Tits everywhere. But not tits to be ecchi over, no, monster hermit tits on beautiful women-ish figures. Now generally I give that a pass but a huge theme in the story is that men and women are "no better than one or the other" but like, lady tits are what you see 99% of the time. Men tits are few and far between. I call bullshit on most of the "deep" themes is what I'm saying, so it's like the mangaka was trying for those deep thoughts but missed the margin a little too far for my preference. That being said, the MC is a married man who loves his wife which automatically makes him my favorite character so like... idk so many good things, so many misses, but overall really spectacular themes and imagery. Unique but classic all at once. It's getting an anime and I have NO IDEA how much censorship they're gonna be doing but they're going to be doing SO MUCH. Oh yeah, and one guy is a plant/human hybrid who fucks a 1000 year old plant-hermit which makes him a canon monster fucker. And one canon non-binary character who I, a nonbinary, actually like. So like... gosh I've got mixed feelings. 8.5/10.
Choujin X: From Sui Ishida, mangaka to the mega hit Tokyo Ghoul comes this brand new manga!... Of one chapter, lol. Not really binge-y because it's just the one chapter out right now but I'm already keeping my eye on it. The grasp on anatomy in the art is PHENOMENAL and you can see Ishida flexing his art skill which is great. Can't give a true rating but I'm giving it a tentative 9/10 because I'm excited to see more.
Shag&Scoob: technically not a manga, its an ongoing webcomic I binged an subscribed to in one day and I just think it deserves more attention. Starts off funny with "what if Scooby Doo had a gun" and has been led to "what if all cartoons are aliens that survive and receive their powers by the humans that love them in an epic war with Martians." On god, its good. I finished the current series in a couple hours so it's a breezy read, highly recommend it. 9/10.
To Your Eternity: Yeah I watched the anime and then finished all current 143 chapters in like 3 days. GOD IM WEAK. I don't buy physical manga unless I know I want to remember the story forever and I'm already budgeting for the current books out. Yeah, this is a good series. That being said, definitely not for the faint of heart or those who suffer under common triggers like suicide, molestation, death, etc. It's all framed as bad and necessary to the story don't get me wrong, but it's there and has lasting affects on the characters. Incredible story telling by the creator of A Silent Voice. Keep tissues nearby at all times. 12/10.

Im calling this the faberry files cos I feel like a spy when I'm really just very gay
This is just basically timestamps of every faberry moment I could find as I was rewatching season 1-3. I don't know if anyone wants to see it but I just put it here cos why not. I wasn't really planning on posting it but here we are so it features my gay ass commentary. Anyway there u go.
gay ass looks-
-1x04- so far I’ve seen a gay ass look Quinn gives Rachel at 35:36
-1x05-39:50-not that gay but a little bit, also long
-1x09-43:02 she looks so adoring
-1x10-during endless love
-1x11-9:37 voiceover is mean but just look at those eyes and tell me I’m wrong,34:00 she literally looks so adoringly I can’t
-1x12-10:41 pretends not to see her only to look straight (or not) at her
-1x15-35:02 they’re even talking about love at the time and sitting weirdly close for enemies
-1x16-41:30
-1x20-43:06 I can’t really see where she’s looking under those long ass lashes but I think when Rachel does that little giggle she stares at her while smiling, might just be Faberry goggles tho
-1x22-9:05 I think thats like the cutest smile my little gay heart, 14:23 Quinn is fully checking her out rn like not even subtle they’re on stage
-2x04 16:12, 41:48 at Rachel singing
-2x07-23:19 that could in no way be regarded as a platonic look of enjoying the song, especially since its just started
-2x09- 43:04 part of dog days but its just so cute them holding hands also weird since they are still meant to hate each other lol
-2x10-6:03 this could just be my Faberry goggles but im counting it :D, 31:20 staring at Rachel while she looks sad
-2x11-11:04 could be at puck but she was looking at Rachel before when they were further apart so imma take the w also Diana looks really cute in this bit
-2x16- 4:27 is being kinda mean but also the way she looks at her <3<3<3 :DD also 5:21 if u don’t want to wait through a bit of a scene and the look then is suuuuper gay, 43:17 she looks so proud of her girlfriend :DDDDD
-2x18-52:49 she looks like such a proud girlfriend in this bit
-2x21-1:29 its only a quick look from Quinn tho
-3x06-28:26 Quinn gives Rachel the GAYEST lingering look at the end of the song (unless my eyes deceive me but I don’t think they do cos I’ve checked like 3 times :DDD)
-3x07- 25:00 this is possible the outright gayest look from Quinn ive ever seen, its during one of the songs but I had to put it in
-3x08- 41:10 the look of joy on Quinns face when Rachel touches her shoulder is just pure gay energy
-3x14- 17:27 ‘for the rest of my life’ looks at Quinn, ffs just get married already, 24:07 she literally bites her lip like wth how is this not canon
-3x19- 39:08 kind of but Quinn looks really happy when he says Rachel Berryand its so cute
Scenes together-
-before I had this idea- the “eavesdrop much” talk, and a couple of other things e.g. the ru Paul scene and the sweetie scene.
-1x05-41:59 during somebody to love weird foot tap thing
-1x06- 18:34 gay ass looks as well, 22:58
-1x07-21:45, 28:53 (the you obviously have a lot you need to express scene), 32:07 they just get wierdly closer for no reason
-1x09-26:09 not much but still
-1x13-3:06, 11:01
-1x15-34:18 sitting really close together next to each other when they’re meant to not like each other?
-1x20-5:42 they also sit really close and a bit of gay staring
-2x02 35:40 (on left of stage next to mike) they’re seen really close and talking, 38:55 standing unreasonably close and also in weird positions for a conversation, 31:28 Quinn looks really sad when Rachel sings to Finn (could also be a Fuinn thing tho so idk)
-2x04 28:11
-2x08-9:44
-2x13- 30:51
-2x14-8:19 its shortcut the level of gay panic on Quinns face is enough for its own spot
-2x15-0:03 how closeted is it to be the only two in the celibacy club fighting over a guy that neither of them want or need lmao I just think its really funny
-2x16-9:31 the level of gay panic on racehls face when she says she’s right is just a mood, 22:27 I think this is  a scene about miscommunication and Quinn blatantly states that she thinks Rachel is much better than Finn and that she believes in her I have a lot of feelings about this scene but ill leave it at that
-2x17-16:20
-2x18-2:38 not much tho, 10:53 they’re being civil and touchy feely also leads into pretty/unpretty, 21:50 when it pans to Quinn it makes it seem like it would be a Fuinn jealousy scene but she doesn’t look jealous at all just a bit sad i think she possibly is worried about Rachel and while she understands (which is why she’s helping) she wants her to feel beautiful in her own skin sorry if I read a bit too far in lol
-2x20-29:42, 33:12, 35:30 I love how finn last episode said Quinn was so closed off with her feelings and then this scene like maybe she can be herself around Rachel idk
-3x01-10:57 Skank Quinn fully checks Rachel out as she’s leaving in this scene also right after a scene where she said she’s not interested in the boys
-3x05-22:55 talking about finchel tho
-3x08-0:00, 21:54, 37:48
-3x11-14:28,20:00 is also a gay ass look but shes talking to Rachel so I put it here
-3x12-13:09 she only taps Rachel tho
-3x13-15:43 Quinn is acting like the stereotypical ‘gentleman’ and its very Faberry canon esque, to put it the best can
-3x14-34:28 this scene I just can’t the way Quinn lights up when she see her and her voice softens a bit and what she said this is the gayest scene no-one can explain it it a hetero way just ahh
-3x15-10:28 they’re holding hands :DD
-3x19-31:48
-3x22-23:12 those tickets cost so much money I swear they should have been way better friends after high school pft, 40:15 Quinn looks so proud of her girlfriend
Possible scenes, could be just drama-
-1x09-29:27 could be at Rachel
-2x10-12:40 kind of about being sad about Finn but could be jealousy?
-2x16- 34:47 could be about Faberry but is framed as finchel or fuinn
-2x17- 37:28 probably just finchel drama but still Faberry jealousy
-2x18-17:16 they say how they’re ‘fighting about Rachel again’ and Im putting it in idc about finchel :DD
-2x19- 23:19 more about Fuinn like always in this category but Faberry jealousy
-2x22-2:27, 3:29, 8:25 finchel/fuinn/faberry jealousy
Sitting really close when they’re meant to not like each other-
-1x15-34:18
-1x19-32:33
-1x20-19:16 in the scene Quinn kinda checks her out but then they stand really close so I put it here
-2x02 23:24 sits really close to Rachel when she dresses in her Britney Spears costume and in the scene Quinn looks like she’s purposefully trying not to look at her and at 29:20 Quinn chose to sit right behind Rachel again, 39:52 seen sitting right behind her again
-2x10- 35:03 standing really close when it would make a difference if Quinn stood anywhere else (e.g. next to her friends or boyfriend) I just think its weird lol
-2x15- 6:28 (before Quinn starts plotting against Rachel, they’re in celibacy club together but all they do is argue so its still a bit weird)
-3x07- 4:54
I dont know where to put this-
-2x17- 35:10 they kinda just look a bit nervous and small interaction I just wanted to add this because I thought it was cute the way they moved around each other idk
-2x20- 14:46 Rachel knows Quinns eyes so well she knows the flower and colour of the ribbon (also gardenias are for secret love which it would surprise me if Rachel already knew)
-3x04-20:26 Rachel isn’t sitting near her boyfriend or anyone she’s even really friends with its a bit weird that shed be sitting in the corner right next to Quinn away from the other chairs

Brooklyn Nine Nine - Season 4 Retrospective
Finished season 4 just yesterday. So I have gone past the halfway mark. Still racing against time to finish in time for season 8. Anyways, with season 4, the show left off on a pretty big cliffhanger. So it was going to be interesting how they resolved. At this point, the show was pretty settled and knew its formula and characters. Season 4 is one of the more uneven seasons of the show in my opinion. Definitely still good but not quite as good the previous seasons in terms of consistency. There are outstanding episodes in the seasons, some meh episodes, and one or two clunkers.
First thing that was evident from how the season started was that the showrunners were now comfortable enough to start experimenting a bit with the formula. The show's greatest strength has been an outstanding ensemble, but Coral Palms Part 1 has only got Jake and Holt in the episode out of the series regulars. The setting is completely different with large parts of the episode outdoors. And its a winner. It has one of the best Holt moments of all time with Holt dancing at the Funzone at Derek's b'day party. Its kind of refreshing to watch Jake and Holt in different avatars. Heterosexual Holt is a hoot. The next two parts incorporate the rest of the squad and its a fun time though I think the first part is the best of the opening three parter. Maya Rudolph pops in as the Marshall in charge of Holt and Jake in witness protection and she's hilarious. Eric Roberts pops up as Figgis. He's not really used that much, something which is a recurring problem with guest stars this season.
Another thing that was evident was that this season was pretty dramatic and stressing for the characters by B99 standards. The season starts out with Jake and Holt in witsec, which results in them getting bumped to the Night Shift. Then they get audited and almost closed down due to a vengeful ex, Terry gets racially profiled, and then the season ends with Jake and Rosa being framed for robbery and sentenced to Prison. Pretty dark season for B99. As a result, there is a bit of a tonal issue at times since B99 in essence is such an optimistic show, something which I genuinely love about it. Some of The Night Shift episodes are fun. Unfortunately, Halloween IV got spoiled because they ruined it in one of the ads. But its still a solid Halloween episode, although not necessarily one of the top Halloween episodes. There are a series of episodes in the middle of the season that are a bit mixed. Mr. Santiago I was pretty excited for with Jimmy Smits being cast, but I don't think they made great use of him. Skyfire Cycle is fun although it recycles the 'don't meet your heroes' theme that we have seen with Jake and Holt in seasons before. The highlight of the episode is the iconic 'BONE!' moment from Holt, which is one of the funniest scenes on the show. The Overmining is an episode that isn't that great. CJ is one of those characters that was a bit too cartoony even for this show. The incompetence of the character got beyond the level of what I could believe. Also, the B story had Gina at her most grating. Captain Latvia was kind of ok.
The season picked up again with The Fugitive two parter. The first part again did a lovely job showing the growth in Jake and Amy's relationship and how they have influenced each other, from little mannerisms like Amy saying 'cool, cool cool' and Jake reading Harry Potter because Amy loves it so much. These little touches to the relationship is what makes the relationship so healthy. Part 2 is a great Judy episode. Possibly my second favorite after the season 2 PB episode. Seeing Jake and Judy with Holt was a fun dynamic. The show also ventured into more serious social issues in a more overt manner with Moo Moo which is some of Terry Crews' best work on the show. I think the episode did a great job balancing out giving the episode the seriousness it deserves as well as having the humor. There is the three parter arc dealing with the precinct being shut down. The Audit and The Last Ride were pretty great. Serve & Protect was kind of meh. The episode didn't use Nathan Fillion to his full comic potential.
There are a few fun and breezy episodes between the story arcs. Cop Con and Chasing Amy are a lot of fun. Your Honor and The Slaughterhouse also do a lovely job fleshing out the relationships with Holt and his Mom and Jake and Rosa. Then we get into the final two parter which is maybe the bleakest the show has ever been. While I did find it an interesting idea, I feel that it wasn't very believable that Jake and Rosa got implicated so easily and that Holt couldn't testify at all. It was a huge cliffhanger and while we all knew that Jake and Rosa would be fine, it was interesting to think about how they would get out of it. But its the grimmest note any B99 season has ended on. The season was still a lot of fun. Even with the minor inconsistencies, the show was better than 99%(heh heh) of the shows out there and the highs were still really high and the season gets credit for breaking with formula and dealing with slightly darker and more serious material. Still, I rank it around a 8/10.
