the thing about you s4 is that what they're TRYING to highlight by having all of joe's victims in that season be woc and having joe ascend in class is that white cishet men have an enormous amount of social privilege and are held to a far different, more lenient standard compared to others, and that rich men in particular seldom face any consequences for their crimes. which is undeniably a good message.

but the writers don't understand that this is a show about Joe Goldberg, who is poor and frequently goes hungry in s1, who is only rich in s3 by virtue of his marriage to Love, who previously spent THREE seasons yapping about how much he hates rich people. which makes this theme seem TOTALLY incongruous with previous characterization of joe simply because the idea of joe ingratiating himself to this particular circle of people for any reason other than pursuing a specific woman is extremely difficult to believe
