It's kinda shocking to me how few people seem to know how prevalent the 'my great grandmother was cherokee' myth is and how it's almost never actually true, especially when it comes with things like 'never signed up' or 'fell off the trail' or 'courthouse burned down destorying the documentation' etc etc.
People just don't even seem to know the history like.. when the Trail happened. My great great great grandfather was 2 years old during Removal in 1838, so peoples 'my great grandmother hid in the mountains!' is so clearly wrong. And we have rolls. From before and after removal, rolls done by cherokee nation and others by the government, rolls that were not stored in one random flammable courthouse. It's not difficult to find the actual evidence of ancestry.
And just.. there are lots of ways those family stories get started. It was a practice during the confederacy to claim cherokee ancestry to show one's family had 'deep roots in the south' that they were there before the cherokee were removed. Many people pretended to be cherokee and applied for the Guion-Miller payout just to try to steal money meant for cherokees - 2/3rds of the applicants were denied for having 0 proof of actual cherokee ancestry. [We even see lawyers advertising signing up for the Miller roll just to try to get free money.] And the myth even started in some families in the cherokee land lotteries, where the land stolen from us was raffled off, including the house and everything that was left behind when the cherokees were removed. We have seen people whose families just take these things stolen from the cherokee family and adopt them into their own family story, saying that they were cherokee themselves.
If you had some family story about being cherokee and you wanna have proof one way or the other, check out this Facebook group run by expert cherokee genealogists that do research for free. Just please read the rules fully and respect the researchers. They run thousands of people's ancestries a year and their average is only around 0.7% of lines they run actually end up having true cherokee ancestry.

I have to figure out a way of getting more interest in my oc stuff without needing to draw as much because I dont have the time or energy to draw as much as I would like, which includes a lot of concepts and/or scenes that are in my head only but can't commit to drawing, but it feels like most people are only interested in visual stuff as opposed to just written stuff (and for good reason, visuals are flashy and all!) It just makes me a little sad that I cant draw and share everything Id like to show, and what I can do most is talk about it, but that barely ever gets responses unfortunately

color practice with the resident non sleepers <3
[id: It is two drawings of Leo and Donnie from rottmnt. In the first drawing Donnie is typing on his laptop , which has a little turtle logo on it, with one hand while Leo hugs his other arm, fast asleep against Don’s shoulder. Donnie is wearing a black hoodie, Leo is wearing a gray one and while Donnie has his mask on, Leo doesn't. The drawing has a purple background and it generally has a purple tone. The second drawing is of Donnie wearing a purple hoodie and sleeping against Leo’s shoulder with his arms crossed and head hanging low. Leo is resting his chin on Don’s forehead, looking up as if talking to someone, and one arm side hugging Donnie. He is wearing a blue pajama shirt and both of them are without their masks. This drawing has more of a blue undertone as it is drawn over a dark blue background./ end id]

Melatonin is a delicate balancing act, it took some time to find a dose that helped me fall and stay asleep without leaving me groggy after 8/10 hours. For me, that has been 10 mg gradually increased to such over a few weeks then steady since.
I also take roughly a week without it every month or two, as the bottle recommends. Listen to your body and do what you can. Good luck, and thank you for the sweet gay were/pire comic<3
Yeah, I can tell my sweet zone is somewhere between 3 and 6 mg, at least right now. Or at least I think it is. Admittedly my sleep has been absolutely horrible since I was a kid so my standards on "not tired" are pretty low, so I'm not actually sure if they're any good right now. All I know is I'm getting more than 2 hours of sleep at a time, and I'm not spending every waking moment fighting off a nap!
Thanks for the confirmation I've gotta test with it and go off and on and such, my doc didn't give me a straight answer on that (he just kept saying take it as needed... I need it every night!!!). 75% of the time being good is way better than 0% so I'll take what I can get!
And the gay comics are the least I can do 🧡 thank you for reading it!

Thinking today about how elements of the earthly, human, and organic distinguish the polyhedron from other mysterious megastructures in fiction.
Consider things like the derelict ship from alien, or the structures from Abzu:
As with the polyhedron, these structures are designed to represent things beyond human understanding, or the futility of attempting to comprehend something so removed from us. The shapes don't conform to our expectations of architecture, and they have features with purposes we can't predict.
The polyhedron is like this in some ways. It sticks out like a sore thumb in comparison with the rest of the town, it's harsh and angular, and it seems to defy our understanding of the physical world.
And yet...there is something so painfully natural and human about it. It looks like a hornet's nest. The walls are made of paper covered in painstakingly drawn designs and plans. It glows with warm light like a lantern. In patho 2, it's covered in sails reminiscent of Da Vinci's flying machines.
To me, it represents those same ideas about things beyond human comprehension, but it represents also the unfailing compulsion of people to seek out that understanding, however futile and audacious such a pursuit might seem.
