@anininas I’ll answer your ask (which TOOOOOOTALLY isn’t almost a month old NOPE) here to keep things organised but I. Dived into a little bit of a rabbit hole with this one and debated posting about it for a bit cuz I realised WAY TOO LATE Oh. You probably mean like. Fantasy cowboys not real-world cowboys HXNSHENDJDJ but let me ramble anyways!!!!
So the origin of ‘cowboys’ as a concept comes from Mexico but more specifically when the Spanish colonised Mexico they brought with them a bunch of cattle that obviously needed to be hearded so over time the Vaquero tradition of horse-mounted herding evolved from there, which is more or less how we’ve gotten the modern idea of stereotypical rootin-tootin cowboys. That’s obviously like a VEEEEEEEEEEERY watered down explanation and I would REEEALLY recommend you go researching the topic yourself if you’re interested cuz I am FAR from a historian HXBDBDNDNXN [Heres the Wikipedia article (I know) if you need a starting point: https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Vaquero just keep in mind it’s also pretty bare-bones too]
But it’s why you’ll often see a similar floral pattern on Luis’ jacket on Western saddles
It’s a kind of leather carving that was APPARENTLY inspired by old medieval Spanish saddles, which would make sense cuz Y’know,,,,, it was Spain that colonised Mexico BCNDNNDS
I’m gonna make a post specifically about this and the designs on Luis’ jacket later so hold onto that thought BUT ANYWAYS. IF WE’RE TALKING LIKE. FANTASY COWOYS. FICTIONAL NO-CONSEQUENCES COWBOYS I HAVE A LOT TO SAY
I imagine even in canon Luis PROOOOBABLY knows how to ride horses. I don’t think we actually SEEE any horses in Valdelobos but it’s a mountain terrain village with the nearest town being god knows how far away so I don’t think it’d be totally unreasonable to assume Luis knows how to ride a horse which is PERFECT FOR US cuz then we don’t have to wonder how he learnt in a theoretical cowboy au
I can also imagine Luis- now hear me out- being more of a dressage rider than a cattle herder. Have you ever seen those funny videos of the horses at the olympics doing a silly dance to rave music???? That’s dressage, which originated vaaaaguely around Spain and France during the medieval period and people SAY it was to evade attacks during battle but like. How true that actually is is up for debate BCNDBENSJJ
But dressage is a lot like dancing. Which Luis. Obviously knows how to do BXNSHNSS so in MY HEAD they make a perfect duo- which makes the mental image of Luis becoming some kind of outlaw similar to canon VERY funny BCNDHSNSJ like I don’t think it’s be very hard to spot the man on his dancing horse Y’know but I digress. I can imagine he probably got taught how to ride by his Grandfather and then got taught how to be a rough-and-tough cowboy by Leon even with his pretty boy fancy horse which IF WE’RE TALKING ABOUT HORSES
Andalusians were bred in Andalusia, Spain (duh) and are used in dressage and showings A LOT. Like go to any big regional tournament and you’ll probably find at least one amongst the crowd. I have no clue realistically how popular they’d be in 18th century America if they were there at all even, but I literally can’t think of a better horse for Luis
ANYWAYS UHHHH THATS IT. THATS ALL IVE GOT. THANK YOU FOR LETTING ME RAMBLE ANI I WILL FOREVER BE IN YOUR DEBT

unpopular onion be nice but if that was a fuck you to the festival and people seeking nostalgia, it's a fuck you to me, an old ass mcr fan who was also unsettled by the noise and lack of interaction and who spent an ungodly amount of money going to this festival that was beautifully nostalgic after spending an ungodly amount of money going to this mcr tour which was beautifully nostalgic
can anyone be super chill and cool and explain to me how it's not a fuck you to me
I had an incredible time at the show but people going hard on this take is bumming me out, in no small part because it screams of fans running with assumptions they make like it's gospel

update on reading the man who was thursday: this is certainly illuminating when it comes to the calendar council in fallen london!!!! from what i can tell, gk chesterton has never met an anarchist, but he heard about them and got real scared and then made up a bunch of guys to justify why he got so scared. and then when they were making fl, early fbg i guess just went "yeah thats basically what theyre like, right?"
i mean, when our main character decides to join the fight against anarchism, its because he is told that, while most rank and file anarchists just believe it when theyre told that life will be better when we're all equal, their leaders know that that's actually impossible. "They are under no illusions to think that man upon this earth can ever be quite free of original sin and the struggle. And they mean death. When they say that mankind shall be free at last, they mean that mankind shall commit suicide."
so im guess we'll just put chestertons understanding of anarchism in the "maybe" pile.... because im not too sure about that one my guy......
anyway, this is just a little illuminating to me why the revolutionaries in fl never seem to have any real interests outside of causing violence and being righteously angry. as one may have assumed, its because they werent based on actual political movements at all, but by one catholic guys nightmare

Not New Year’s yet but
The Splatoons and Their 12 New Years Grapes 🍇
Agent 8: Takes the assignment literally. Swallows each grape whole, one grape per second during the countdown and silently speedruns a list of wishes they wrote down in advance
Marina: wishes for the most normal, wholesome things but says most of them out loud before the others can stop her. Wasted her wishes 😔
Pearl: silently wishes for all the things marina said
Marie: gaslights Callie into thinking the countdown is starting like half an hour early
Callie: eats all of Marie’s grapes in retaliation during the countdown
Agent 4: offers Marie their grapes. They end up sharing.
Big Man: forgored entirely about the wishes and just ate them bc he was hungry. Ate half of captain 3’s before Agent 8 told him and he profusely apologized.
Frye: Tries to fit every grape in her mouth at once to make one huge wish.
Shiver: Runs out of time scolding Frye for doing it like that and then has to speedrun the last six grapes.
Captain 3: blends up Cuttlefish and Octavio’s grapes into juice so the old farts can participate. Accidentally puts their own grapes in this blender too but whatever
Neo 3: Shares theirs with Little Buddy.

Hey bestie, non combative ask I mean no harm - but I was wondering since you’re half native as well, what are your feelings towards Thanksgiving?? No wrong answers just being nosy do
socks my friend socks hellooooo
personally. just another Food And Seeing Family holiday. like my family never went to church so it's the same as Easter with but in fall and less eggs and candy and more turkey and Fall Stuff. my dad's family is states away while my moms is an hour away and that's The Indian Side so it's literally just. everyone goes to chill at memas house for a couole hours. we get to see my baby cousin and have good food and catch up and complain about family drama and that's about it tbh. very informal
there's not much I can personally Do about the concept and it's an excuse to have time off and see family I don't usually and have good food, but it's always been divorced from the original intent for us for obvious reasons. i don't hate it on the principle of its existence so much as I hate some attitudes about it and the Discourse surrounding it cause it's kinda just. clearly not going away. yes i am spiteful about white people who deny the reality of it, of course. but im not gonna waste Being Angry about a thing that's... I'm not gonna say harmless of course but it won't go away bc people like having time off work and/or opportunities to visit with family. but the people who refuse to acknowledge the fact that we're fed lies (at best) surrounding it from kindergarten onward until we learn about it either of our own accord or from family depending on circumstances and such, much less those who hold it as some kind of red blooded american ideal or whatever the hell else those kinds of people see it as. I understand not celebrating it as well bc like Yeah it definitely sucks origin wise and it can be hard to divorce the thing from its genesis, and maybe it was never a thing for your family to begin with. both stances are valid to me. it's mildly annoying when white people specifically try to do that. white guilt thing about apologizing or whatever but I don't see it or have it happen to me much anymore it's just kinda. a thing I coexist with. for me it's always just been an excuse to eat sweet potato pie yknow

using 送给我 is probably not a regional thing. it’s just a phrase i hear often hence why i said it’s a phrase… from where i’m from, haha. and know it means “to give” but in a more positive light. i had a hard time reading the other alternatives you gave because i don’t know those characters. i’m more familiar with 送给我 or 给我 hahaha.
the alternative i gave (送) was in the context of “if hoyoverse wasn’t hinting at his self-depreciation, they might have used this word instead.” so i’m pretty sure they were intentional in using 丢 and i’m glad u share the same sentiment! (i’m not crazy! haha.)
i like your addition on how he also views the metal scraps as something he believes the traveler finds no value in which further hammers his self-depreciation. completely missed that note. to me 丢给我 is normally used in sports where the act of throwing is literal, so to hear him say that when opening chest was just a bit jarring as i never heard that in such context before and hence the birth of the post.
i know i just said this but i really loved your addition! thank you for guiding me through. yeah, the en translation unfortunately doesn’t capture this nuance of his character… 🥲 @apologems
ah sorry! I should have clarified. 留给我: 留(liu2) = to leave so just "leave it to/for me"
交给我 also kind of means give it to me—交(jiao1) can mean hand over/turn in (homework or paperwork etc)/submit, but (personal feeling) I think it expresses more of a physical handing over whereas I mentally associate 送 with give (a gift), or sending something over (as in delivering it). Idk whether those differences are actually true, or if english is good at conveying them, but those are my subconscious vibes lol
yeye I thought I learned like 丢 as a literal throwing something too but I haven't heard it in a while so I thought I might be wrong; glad to know I didn't hallucinate that meaning LOL
edit 1 sec later: (referring to the tags) the reason why i associate genshin characters or fictional characters in general saying 交给我吧is apparently because it's one of noelle's burst voicelines LMAO. knew it sounded familiar somewhere
