Pride & Prejudice (2005): Edo Period AU ft. SessKik & InuKag

Hi guys! Sorry for being MIA! Has it really been 9 months!?

Life has calmed down a little so I have time to work on AU projects again c: buuut I changed a few things !

I'll be illustrating key parts of the Pride and Prejudice (2005) movie in hopes of opening the fandom's eyes to SessKik romance... but it's going to take place during The Tokugawa era (also known as the Edo Period). I love historical fiction and have been reading up a ton about feudal society.

Originally, in the manga, Inuyasha is set in the Sengoku Period (The Warring States Era) where feudal warlords dropped like flies due to the constant political warfare. Later on, Samurai tried to establish "order" by assigning people into a strict hierarchy of social classes.. Which reminded me of P&P.

On top you have the Emperor, who didn't really wield any political power at this point and was more of a 'figurehead'.

Then there was the Shogun. These military men were the supreme commanders and head of government. I think it makes sense to have the Great Dog Demon be a shogun.

Beneath them were the Daimyo. They were the regional warlords and noble families that ruled over the lowly foot-soldier/samurai. They made up the upper-class but only those with close familial ties to the Shogun would be able to wield political power. Shogun gave land to daimyos to rule in exchange for loyalty. Also! There were "outer" Daimyo who barely hung on to what little perks they had since they had few real allies. Reminds me of the Bennet Fam.

...Everyone else (farmers, merchants, & peasants) weren't respected until the turn of the century brought about that dank rapid economic prosperity.

TBH there was no Japanese 'middle class' like there was in Europe during the time of Pride and Prejudice so I take a lot of creative license.. I'm taking elements I loved from the movie and combining them with the Ukiyo-e art that was so popular during the Edo period. I can't freaking wait to glam everyone up in kimonos, ribbons and pearls.

notes, headcanons, etc:

- the Wicked shirt and the blue button down (from the group pic in the first photoset) are both shirts i’ve owned for a long time and are still in my closet right now

- the team illinois and team nebraska captains are named dani (daniela) and miya and pretty much exactly what happened between bryce and clark also happened with them. they also spent a summer road-tripping together; prime grounds for homosexual thoughts to happen

- for anybody who’s watched the off book episode The Kids Are At Night with Mary Sohn (10/10 episode highly recommended), i imagine that most nights after clark gets done helping his sisters* with their homework he’s probably looking up online editions of Boy Boy Magazine. gotta get connected to the culture

* = my headcanon is that he has two sisters, one older one younger

- the Away Team is from the same country as Princess Emily but they’re diehard Nothing Everything Children Glass fans (is there an actual name for the group who made it?? tag with your headcanon for the band name) and there is a rivalry between the two factions

AS A BIG TAG AU FANATIC I HAVE NO OTHER HEADCANON ON HOW THEY GOT TOGETHER ASIDE FROM TAG JWAIOCJAWIASFJW OKAY BUT FR, my opinion just really revolves around TAG cause it's just so well-written and the story just flows so smoothly and coherent y'kno??? it just connects well and wjdjopwdjpod i genuinely cannot think of any other way they would get together

YES it’s so funny tho bc sometimes the music ends up distracting me… i’ll hear a song and then be like ooh i wanna look up what this sounds like live or OOH this sounds fun to play i wanna look up the tabs or WHOA i wanna check out this album/this artist’s entire discography…… and then get derailed from drawing for at least an hour LMAO 💀

i might be a terrible person, i don’t really know this might be selfish or twisted in some way but knowing other people i am around self harm is comforting to me. the only others i know who sh are those who actively plan on perusing classical music or who are literal prodigies… i guess that IS influenced by who i am around but it’s oddly disproportionate compared to my other friends.

a lot of them don’t care about hiding old scars as much as i do and i admire that in them. i guess im afraid of everyone’s judgment.

i guess it makes me feel less alone. of course i don’t want anyone to sh, but knowing they do and knowing the amazing people they are and the amazing musicians they are gives me hope. i suppose??? a lot of these people are older than me and it allows me to see what’s possible and know i’m not the only one. idk im sad they are leaving me for uni soon but they are better now. and it gives me a lot of hope.

i don’t know how to describe the feeling. i didn’t do it justice at all. i feel weird for thinking this way but comforting is the best way to describe it. even in my oddly specific life of classical music im not alone in this.

Not a lore thought, but as a kid I was so in love with the Song of Healing that I would just wait there in the Clock Tower listening to it while leaving my N64 running and just contemplate the tragedy of Link's life. I remember thinking how unfair and lonely his life was. When I learned about the Hero's Shade while playing TP, I was destroyed 😔

That's so valid. There are many times where I would just leave a game running just so I can listen to it. Or, like, during a cut scene. I just won't progress the text so I can listen to the music for tht scene.

Zelda just has so much good music and they range for so many emotions. Song of Healing is such a good one to just sit and listen to.

hi lu!! future hearts is a great start. it’s one of my favorite albums, and something’s gotta give as well as dancing with a wolf are great songs. if you want more songs along the vibe of dear maria then jasey rae and the girl’s a straight up hustler r both bangers. lullabies is also good but it’s lyrically pretty heavy due to the context. dont panic is a good album, too - canals is probably my favorite on that one. also every song on wake up sunshine and last young renegade is awesome but only a couple on tell me I’m alive are good.

God it's so sad that lestat the musical suck because vampire chronicals would work SO well as a musical. The melodrama, dances and songs to show the bonds between the characters, it doesn't matter if the actors look like the characters or not, you can actually do Claudia and Armand, which visual mediums generally can't, the costumes can be gorgeously tacky but change in subtle ways so show the passage of time (like everyone keeps the same base costume but changes hats and coats), you can give lestat and Nicky a big golden moment number, the theater de vampire's would be CRAZY, you can have lestat play the piano (maybe that's a way to do the narrating), it's longer so you can include more than a movie, Louis could be a great narrator too, you can have in-between scenes of back and forth between him and Daniel, louis can have a melancholy walking in the rain but isnt new orleans so beautiful song, and you can give lestat and Louis a dance number, Maybe with singing, maybe not, that shows their relationship through the years, the two of them pulling eachother around the stage, sometimes switching hats and coats, lestat can swing his walking stick around, Claudia can come in to join them half way through, they should totally recreate that hand holding spin from the show that the three of them do cause it would be Adorable, the music and style of dance can change, they go between passionate, violent, playful, confrontational and everything in between beautifully capturing the complex violently domestic relationship between these two compelling, emotional characters. Too bad Lestat: The musical genuinely sucks.

i know people have been saying this a lot on here and et cetera but i'm truly so grateful to be able to discover and rediscover music over and over again
