I recently read Houseki no Kuni :3

i think something a lot of people are already forgetting is that the doctor specifically told Kongo/Phos to burn the bridge once he crosses it, and are already getting antsy about what happened in chapter 98. To me this feels like him crossing the bridge? we still have, I believe, another volume or so At Least left to hnk and I think this next volume will be Phos’ process of ‘burning the bridge’. Like, we still don’t even know if Phos’ praying is bringing the result that is wanted, we just saw a giant explosion of sorts. That could lead to anything. 

The gems in Houseki No Kuni are very deliberately designed to be androgynous, but I do have a tendency to identify with them as nonbinary women. Some, like Bort or Padparadscha, I feel have a more distinctly nonbinary or masculine vibe respectively. And of course Cairngorm is a trans girl and anyone who says otherwise is being transphobic.

Point being, while I’m able to recognize that they do not have gender as we would understand it, I will naturally tend to project my own gender identity onto them a bit. Which was, I think, a large part of the point.

While we were raiding, I was thinking about how to make glowy eyes custom textures work and delete the Ancient pattern. For some reason, changing the emissive in blender wasn't working and I was going insane. Finally decided to give in to the stupidest option, which for some reason wasn't working a few weeks ago in TT, but is working now. Who knows why but it's working now so I'm not going to complain. Gotta work on a user friendly version because i'm using way too much detail in those tests textures I'm using, but hey, I got what I wanted ;) Knowing how many people are requesting glowing custom eyes ... Soon I will provide uwu.

Aventurine seeing you try and desperately rebuild your partner with the fake gem remains and part of him feels sad for you because you've been trying for months on end with little to no results. But he's also a little jealous? He can see how hurt you are but somewhere in his selfish heart he hopes they don't come back.

Aventurine getting broken so many times and losing so many inclusions that he starts forgetting the little things you do for him like he's going insane cuz he can't remember what you did together 2 days ago but he can still remember the warm and fuzzy feeling and it scares him. What if he forgets you name next? He couldn't live with that.

What if you make a promise together on a specific day and he forgets? You're so heartbroken and basically avoid him the whole day since you think he doesn't want to hang out with you and Aventurine is just left confused and hurt too because why are you suddenly avoiding him?? What did he do????

when you shatter together and are rebuilt, some of his inclusions get in you and some of yours in him (idk if that's possible but shhh we dream big). He starts to see himself through your eyes, how much you love him and all the things you never told him. You see yourself through his eyes, all his insecurities and emotions that he's bottled up.

ALSO what if reader was like a corundum or moissanite which both have a moh hardness of around 9 ish? So significantly stronger than Aventurine. Reader always throwing themselves in danger to keep him safe....

OK one last thing I PROMiSE

Aventurine still has a pretty high hardness, so the fact that he keeps getting shattered just means he's way too reckless when it comes to his own life. Just the mental imagery of you carefully putting him back together piece by piece, telling him to be more careful...man.

I imagine reader being very strong but the power comes with a great cost. They have two modes just like Alexandrite but unlike Alex they can control their state.

Their inclusions collect energy from the sunlight and they can use this energy to buff themselves up significantly but at the cost of their hardness and emotional stability (the more energy they use, the more transparent fragile their body becomes). If they use all saved up energy, they'll end up in the comatose state for like 150 years in order to recover completely.

So I like to think they're older than Aventurine physically but not much older mentally since they were in coma when he appeared.

Also. Them using like 90% of the energy in their body during the night raid :) Aven being scared for them but also shocked and heartbroken because they use this power against him :) like oh wow they actually do hate me that much haha :) reader did this to keep up with padpa and be able to fight Aven one on one since even if they're heartbroken they want this moment with him if not as partners then at least as enemies

I have so much hnk fanart lol. I remember I started to read the manga right after finishing the anime. I was hooked. Read the whole thing in 2 days I think and I'm someone who HATES reading.

hello there, this ask is the main reason i resurfaced for a few secs.

I am definitely alive and okay, sometimes I even update my twitter, I simply feel a disconnect with HnK and Tumblr after everything that happened. Also, now that I am a full time nerd with adult responsibilities, I have little free time to dedicate to this space, even if sometimes I miss this community and how we used to scream all together anytime a new chapter would drop.

Thank u for sticking by and enjoying my posts, carry on the cinnaphos legacy for me but do NOT lose sleep on these pebbles, take it from your internet grandma, take care of yourself. As for your question, I do not think Phos and Shinsha will ever end up together (except in the form of the seventh treasure, which I believe Shinsha ended up being, so yay?). Also, I hate to break it to you, but these rocks are no longer part of this plane of existence thanks to Phos praying everyone away and initiating 3rd impact. We can always dream tho, that's what fanfics are for.

Many gems have come and gone over the millennia and Phos is just one of them. The Earth gems didn't like how sketchy Phos looked and the moon gems didn't want any part in the messing with Adamant plan. A perfect example of this is with Cinnabar. Phos never once asked what Cinnabar wanted from him. He physically couldn't question Phos or tell him what to do. And since Phos insisted on going down his own path instead of listening to Adamant and the others, Adamant didn't interfere. He was simply in no position to stop Phos from doing everything he so brazenly insisted on.

In the end, and despite what many people here insist on, no one is really at fault of anything. This is just how life and interpersonal relationships work. Everyone is the choices they make. Phos, dead set on one goal, got what he wanted at the cost of everything else he failed to maintain." (CrashDunning)

"good take. it pains me when people hate on Cinnabar for ‘betraying’ Phos, when the reality is Phos failed to truly understand them just as much as the other gems failed to understand Phos. the lack of real understanding between the two of them is glaring when Phos tries to convince Cinnabar to come to the moon at the end of volume 8; Cinnabar doesn’t see how Phos would know what it’s like to feel alone despite all the attention they get, and Phos doesn’t see how Cinnabar would sympathize with Kongo despite the situation he put them all in.

our beloved protagonist had a noble goal of saving everyone, but not everything they did in pursuit of it was noble. throughout the story, Phos fails to truly consider their fellow gem’s perspectives just as the other gems did Phos. i believe Phos even comes close to realizing this after the fight with the game board; they say everyone is so nice and they liked fighting as a team. if they hadn’t lost their head and got cursed with Lapis’s smarts immediately afterward, perhaps they would have done better working together with the other gems and Kongo to find the truth and end the war, rather than the destructive path they went down. “a clever mind is fatal” after all :-)

In a lot of ways Phos decided for himself what was best for everyone and then tried to push that on other people. Phos decided what Chinnabar should want instead of including the desires of others into his plants. Phos isn't the only one to think primarily of themselves, a lot of the characters in hnk are so caught up in their personal problems that it blinds them to the struggles of others.

I was thinking about this earlier but Houseki no Kuni is one of those series where for the most part the entire cast lacks malice. No one really has the goal of making things worse. The closest it comes to that is probably Phos when he starts lashing out and decides to shatter the remaining earth gems to get Adamant to pray.

(HNK spoilers!) Trying to explain why nobody likes Aechmea...

Disclaimer: Everytime I criticize something, I already expect someone to comes after me, telling "You shouldn't consume medias you clearly don't like!!" I DO love HNK! I love the characters, the plot, the meaning behind! If I didn't like it, I wouldn't be here, wasting my precious time at writing this.

After this premise, let's start!

(I apologize in advantages for this wall of words, but I need to say something...)

So, it's pretty obvious that at least the 95% of the active fandom doesn't like Aechmea and hoped for a punshment for his actions (that never happened)

Yet at least a big part of that group likes/enjoy the meaning and the plot of HNK, so it's also pretty obvious that the main problem is not in the storywriting, but into Aechmea and the Lunarians'.

One of the main themes of this manga is the criticism about the myth of being immortal, and tbh that's one of the things I like the most about hnk: the fact that we have plenty of representations throught the characters how being immortal is often only tiredsome and doesn't give any actual advantage, is something really interesting and often overlooked in any other medias (as far as I know).

I know a similar topic can be hard to discuss, expecially due to the many different cultures around the world, but there's nothing wrong to test/uses overlooked topics for your story! It can make it original and feeling "fresh" unlike many other more famous medias. Same goes with having morally grey characters (90% of character in hnk)!

However, to make everything works together fine, an hard work is needed otherwise most of the pubblic won't enjoy the final product (or at least, they'll feel dissatisfied).

And this is exactly what happened to the Lunarians character concept:

In just a few words, what we know about them is that they are the remains of human souls, that overtime got tired of this and all they want is simply stopping to exist (here's the whole thing about the praying machine, becoming nothing, etc...).

As said before, hnk criticize very much this topic, hence it's easy to understand Aechmeas's reasons... but only rationally

Rationally, any of us has understood what the author wanted to tell us about the lunarians, yet none of us like them as characters...

This is due the fact that the character of Aechmea lacks of simpathy: during the course of the story, besides a few pages where he tells the lunarians' past, there aren't any other events to make us, the pubblic, feeling simpathetic toward him and rooting for his action.

The lunarian are meant to be "misunderstood villains"?? You as the author must work on this so us the pubblic can feel it emotionally

This may seems meaningless but it's actually very important in the storytelling, even if said character doesn't represent the morals!

The main reason why people consumes medias nowadays is to find something to relate to (which can be characters, situatuions, backstories, etc...) otherwise medias such as cinemas, comics, mangas, etc... wouldn't be so popular

The only exceptions to this are the unmorally villains (the ones that commits so many disgusting actions that no one on earth could like them. Examples: Ozai from ATLA, The Emperor from Star Wars, Niragi from Alice in Borderland, etc...), but to this case, again, there should have happened more events that make us like Aechmea and Co.

Another important theme that follows strictly the main plot is the "unability to leave the past behind to try something new" therefore the Lunarians are also meant to be somehow the final solution to get free the gems from their phisical/"flawed bodies", but there wasn't anything that I could actually like about this:

the gems that should have represented the theme of "breaking free" better (Dia, Cairn, etc...) instead of getting better as characters, their development only got worse at the point to ending up being hated by most of the pubblic (Dia only joined the massacre of the other gems not even to help Phos, but only to have some emotional revenge over Bort. Cairn got only selfish, bragging and uncaring toward everyone, after they got "freed" from "Ghost's control". You can't tell me these are good things)

The only "escaped gem" that shows some likability throught their action is Benitoite (who should be only a boring secondary character) by trying to save the gem that they despise (an that in my opinion has a far stronger/deeper meaning that anything else having to do with the other gems, beside Padpa and Yellow development, ofc!) and this is very ironic, knowing that they had little screentime than the others.

The whole things about all the gems that didn't joined as lunarian at first now wants to become like them, sounds very iffy to me too (much like they were "forced/manipulated" by the others. You know, the "since everybody do this, I'm doing it too" trope, which is really contrasting with the theme that this story wants to show)

Lunarians are meant to be human, but ironically the "actual villains" (Kongo and Euclase) show to be much more humans than them (the unability/pain to not let go the past is a very human feeling and even if they are in the wrong, we are still able to like them at least a bit), which is something that lack in Aechmea's character:

On top of this, he is also full of contraddictions: he grinds all the gems he caught, but later he is seen even being actracted by them, at the point of keeping Ghost's arm and flirting with Phos and Cairn. He is shown to welcome the Admirabilis when they are in desperate need, but later he does agree with Phos to kidnap and uses them to collect all the gems shard (I'm not too sure about this point, because I don't remember very much that part, so feel free to correct me). And I'm pretty sure there are other topics/ about this.

In general, he should have been the "desperate anti-hero", the only certain thing about him is his manipulatoy behaviour and his obsession with the final goal (interrupted sometimes only by he and Cairn's cringey flirting), and this is not enough to deserve to be eradicated from the reality with anyone else.

The ending is acceptable, but Aechmea's fate is not. No matter how strong I try to accept it rationally: it doesn't feels right!

The Phos's character development is a different kind of this: the meaning of "you tried to satisfy everyone, you ended up being alone" and "you are perfect as you are, no need to fit with everyone" is not only true, but allows the pubblic to simphatyze with our protagonist very much. Phos is simpathetic! And it's very easy to see ourself in them: from us, people phisically/mentally disable that have this internal pain of not feeling accepted by the others, to simply people that are "different" and wants to be recognized as valid ("different" meaning anything that doesn't hurt anyone. Don't get me wrong).

Therefore I still love HNK ending despise everything and Phos has officially become one of my favourite protagonists ever!

Perhaps, the only right thing that could have been done with Aechmean, would have been that, while all the others become nothing, he being locked forever in a human body made out of flesh, bone and blood, able to decompose but unable to die (much like Rock's fate from Warriors Cats)

(Maybe this is a bit too sadistic, but for sure I would have liked it more)

Some thoughts on houseki no kuni: mainly focused on Welegato/Cairngorm- Enma's toxic relationship and theories on what will happen to Phos

TW!!!: abusive relationship and phos wishing to die

So to start off, I've been checking in on HNKs page here and some of yall really like to argue and threaten others over fiction characters, like please stop and act civil these characters AREN'T REAL. it is not okay to threaten or insult others based on their opinion on fiction.

Okay, now to the story. As someone who has been in an abusive relationship, I see the same resemblance in Welegato's relationship with Enma. Enma acted like a "savior" to Welegato. and to all who say, "He wasn't manipulating Cairn" fail to notice the panels in which he states that he got Cairn away from phos on purpose to make phos a divine being to pray.

It is vague, but it is enough to realize Enma tricked Welegato and all the other gems to stay away from Phos. If you look at other parts of the story, you can see how Enma pushes himself onto Cairn, using their innocence and naivety to his advantage. Cairn/Welegato became a glorified trophy wife. In all honesty, I pity them more than I hate them because they never realized what was going on. They complied to whatever Enma said and wanted because they thought he truly loved them. For example, the scene in which he says Ghost is controlling him through Cairn's eyes. This made Cairn have a full-blown panic attack and shatter. What did Enma do to help them calm down? Nothing, he stood there, putting his plan into action. He did this because when He took out the quartz from Cairns eye, he knew Cairn would see him as someone who saved him from his long gone outer shell. Now to Ghost Quartz, in my opinion, was never abusive towards Cairn. they did the things they saw that were needed to stay in control of their body. Ghost may not have cared about Cairn inside them because they saw them as someone who got in the way of their life. Cairn was very violent, numerous times, we've seen them punch and break Phos out of anger. Even on the moon, they become cruel towards Phos and insult them numerous times. Enma just made Cairn/Welegato more spoiled and violent. That's the main issue. Bad relationships are hard to recognize until you see for yourself what you've become. In this case, Welegato never got to see how bad this was and stayed that way until they turned into nothingness. I'm very sad at this fact because Welegato had so much potential as a character. They have a good back story about identity and becoming something great, but it was washed down to a babied brat who turned their back on someone who needed them most. I think Welegatos' story is a story where the happy ending was never actually happy. They never got to realize who they could actually become, instead becoming controlled by another person.

With all that said and done let's move on to the next topic: Phos

Phos has said in the latest chapter (102, ps. spoilers ahead!!!) that they wish to eradicate their own existence. This can go either of two most likely ways. Phos fails to do this and learns to live with the human inside their inclusions or successes and goes into nothingness. There is a third was this can go, where all the lunarians are brought back or he finds out nothingness is an afterlife where all the others are. (knowing Ichikawa, this will NEVER happen :/). My next question is, how will this happen? Will Adamants brother be able to help Phos or will it not work? Until the next chapter we can only theorize.

I haven't seen anything about this on here yet so here we go. Last night at 1am a man attacked two or three (the sources differ) bars in Oslo, one of which is a known gay bar (London Bar). Only minutes after he started shooting, the police arrived and quickly apprehended him. This attack left two people dead and nineteen people injured (10 to the hospital with severe injuries and 11 with less severe injuries who got a check up by health personnel on the site of the shooting). The police has arrested a 42 year old man who is now charged with murder, attempted murder and terrorism. This may be seen as deliberate terror toward the queer community because of the locations he went to (London Bar) and the timing. 2022 marks the 50th anniversary of the decriminalization of being gay in Norway. The Oslo Pride Parade was supposed to take place today, but the organizers decided to cancel the parade and all other Pride events as a response to what happened tonight.

Me and a few friends were celebrating pride at another bar and had been about a block away only hours before. We left long before the man came there and none of us were hurt. I stayed up until five am last night to get as much information as I could an read a few hours ago that the rest of pride is canceled. My heart broke when I read the news about the shooting and my anger rose when I saw how this man's mean and hurtful actions have made queer people afraid and worried. This month has been a month of celebration and happiness, and I was not prepared to face the very real fact that people may want to kill us just because of who we love. It's sickening.

While the police do their job and investigate what happened and if there were more people involved, we, as the queer community in Norway and the rest of the world, will do our job and continue to protest and celebrate ourselves for our own sake and for the people coming after us

As a trans woman, I've obviously had many trans woman friends. Many of them have told me about how people suddenly disliked them after transitioning, and obviously I'm aware of the big groomer scare whipped up by far right bigots. I could never really relate to those issues on a personal level though, until I read Houseki No Kuni and saw how the fandom reacts to Cairngorm.

Reading the manga for the first time, I started to feel like I was reading my own story. Like Ichikawa had written my life, and yes that includes realizing that I was trans thanks to a creepy partner. And Ichikawa gave me a happily ever after! The character most like me gets everything I could ever want! (My ex wasn't even rich, popular, smart, or pretty)

Then I looked for what other fans think, and they fucking HATE it! They despise the happiness she gets, to the point of trying to avoid or deny it by making up grooming conspiracies and acting like she's the absolute worst character ever written. They wish she never transitioned, never got to be her true self. People will bring her up out of nowhere just to complain that she even exists.

On a certain level, I do get it. The moment is meant to be jarring. The story of HNK is that of Phos always almost finding what they wanted, then losing it at just the last minute. Their partner meets this skeezy guy they've been trying to deal with, then suddenly changes everything about herself to date him and starts being way more mean and yes, even a bit selfish.

Rather than accept and try to process this intentionally sudden shift, it seems most of the fandom has just gone hard into denial. It's like... Did you people even read the same manga as me? Do you not see how much happier she is living more feminine? Not perfectly happy, she's VERY often horrified, annoyed, and frustrated by things Aechmea says/does. But she's also happy a large portion of the time. UNLIKE with Phos, where she was almost always blatantly miserable. She was suicidal! Again, as a trans woman that's a VERY familiar feeling!!!

The negative reactions she gives Aechmea are actually very strong evidence against him completely manipulating every aspect of her personality btw. She shows NO hesitation in telling him off, insulting him, and doing things he doesn't want. Not exactly the hallmarks of someone whose entire identity and personality is the product of grooming or abuse, are they?

The fact that he kept her old arm and built her a super-shielded safehouse proves that he really loved her. Their entire relationship was not a ploy to pit her against Phos. Keeping the arm was a purely sentimental act that provides NO value in manipulation, and if anything risked pushing her away from how creepy it was.

Similarly, the eye replacements weren't mind control, because if you wanna start making assumptions like that then we can go all day just making up stuff that just straight up didn't happen in the story. Maybe the moon is made of cheese at that point.

Anyways Sensei Kongo LITERALLY groomed the gems but I don't see anyone denying the evident personalities of the others.

My healing contact just broke in 2. I had one half on my eye going hurtfully crazy which I spent line idk what felt like half an hour to get away from eyes while not touching the eye. Tried fetching the other half just to lose it somewhere on the ground.

So no wonder i was like ... hurting. Lol.

Aventurine who's actually scared to be taken away but who still sees himself as someone disposable so he keeps rushing into the battle

Aventurine who was there when reader's teammate was taken to the moon

Aventurine who thinks that reader hates him for failing to protect their partner

Aventurine who ends up being partnered up with reader, them rarely working as a team and acting independently most of the time

Aventurine who doesn't understand why reader keeps saving him, why reader sometimes insists on repairing him themselves, why they seem so upset when he's shattered again and again and again

Peter OTP: Peter/Nebula, of course. If the 100k+ words of fanfiction I've written about them is anything to go by, they are my OTP of all time. <3 I want Peter to move on and find happiness with someone new after vol. 3 and the movie planted the seeds for these two ending up together in the future really well I think. BrOTP: This was the hardest to decide because I love Peter's friendships with all the other Guardians. Gonna go with Mantis here though because I love how she looks out for her bro and tries to steer him in the right direction. Wish we'd gotten to see more of them being siblings after the holiday special 'cause the confirmation that she was Peter's sister made me so happy! TuT OT3: Shipping Peter with Nebula and Gamora at the same time would be really weird so instead I'm gonna go with Nebula/Peter/Thor in like, a V shaped polycule where Peter is dating them both but Nebula and Thor aren't into each other. NOTP: Ro/quill. I don't think I need to explain myself with this one, but shipping the raccoon with the humanoid characters is weird and gross to me.

Nebula OTP: Same as above, I think her implied feelings for Peter in vol. 3 make all the sense in the world. I mean, why wouldn't Nebula fall for the same person as Gamora? That's just how her life is. I think these two being together would fit their arcs well. Nebula learns to accept that she doesn't have to always be competing with Gamora in order to be worthy of love, and Peter gets his shit together enough to see how Nebula stuck by and cared for him and how Gamora was right about how the person he fell for "sounds more like her." BrOTP: I love her friendship with Rocket so much! Two sad cyborgs goin' on adventures together for five years, I'd kill to see more of that. OT3: Same as above as well I guess, but I don't see Nebula being poly. NOTP: I'm fine with all the big Nebula ships really even if I don't consume their content.

Mantis OTP: I used to ship Mantis/Nebula back in the day and I think that's still my fave Mantis ship even if I no longer go there. I also like the idea of her having a crush on Gamora. BrOTP: Mantis and Drax are my favorite duo ever. Just a couple of strange goofballs pranking each other and causing chaos. OT3: Can't think of anything for this one. NOTP: I don't hate Mantis and Drax as a romantic pairing but them just being weird best friends means so much to me. We need more platonic M/F relationships like them.

Phos OTP: I like all the Phos ships but can't deny that Phos/Cinnabar is my favorite. I know you haven't read the manga yet but I reread this one part of it earlier in the week that makes me wanna throw Phos in the trash because we could have had it all!! xD BrOTP: I really enjoyed Phos and Cairngorm's dynamic. OT3: Phos/Cinnabar/Antarc. Idk how it'd work out but all I know is that I want all three of these rocks to be happy. NOTP: I'm not picky with HNK ships but I'm sure some people ship Phos with Aechmea so no thanks to that.

Toko OTP: Toko/Komaru! These two mean the world to me. Seeing Toko end up with an amazing girlfriend who supports and loves her after everything she's been through and the development she underwent in Ultra Despair Girls damn made me cry. BrOTP: I love the interactions between her and Makoto in her Free Time events. The Naegis are the only ones who can tame this girl. OT3: I like the Toko/Sayaka ship so I can imagine an AU where she survives and throuples up with Tokomaru. NOTP: Byakuya. These two are the worst for each other and no one can change my mind.

Aoi OTP: I very much enjoy her and Sakura together. BrOTP: Yuta Asahina deserved better and in my personal headcanon, he survives UDG and gets to see his sis again. OT3: I think Sakura had a boyfriend so sandwich Hina in between them. NOTP: Got no strong negative feelings for any Hina ships.

Sakura OTP: Same as above. Love me a big buff sporty girlfriend and her smol buff sporty girlfriend. BroTP: I really enjoyed her Free Times with Makoto, too. OT3: Same as above. NOTP: Also same as above. It's hard to go wrong with Sakura ships.

Papyrus OTP: I don't ship Papyrus with anyone but I remember liking Papyrus/Mettaton when I was younger. BrOTP: I fucking LOVE his friendship with Undyne. Anyone who doesn't call Papyrus and Undyne in every room in the game to see what weird shit they say is missing out. OT3: I got nothin'. NOTP: Font/cest. Don't understand why this is such a big thing.

Sans OTP: These days I like the idea of Sans being aroace but I remember having a very brief phase of shipping Sans/Asgore xD BrOTP: Him and Papyrus ofc, but I also like him seeing Frisk as a little sibling, too. OT3: Sans/Fries/Ketchup NOTP: Fr/ans. That is a child...
