hypmic headcanons
since nobody on my instagram appreciates me, i’m going to put them here, and it’ll be like a master post i can add onto that way anyway (which is convenient for me, because i keep adding on… yeah, it’s bad lmao. my notes document can only take so much) all of it will be under the line so you guys don’t just have a big ass post clogging your feed! to whoever my 4 followers are
starting with fling posse…
---
Ramuda Amemura
He’s trans.
He has a superiority complex to hide his inferiority complex.
He also likely has a little bot of a god complex… Just a tiny bit… Not to the point it’d endanger his life, but to the point he can never admit he’s wrong (I suppose this can also count as the superiority complex).
He also has a little bit of a schoolboy crush on Dice… that has lasted far longer than he’d ever like to admit – not that he’d ever admit it in the first place – and he gets jealous over Dice.
He started his whole thing with girls, whatever it is, as a power trip, which also explains why he likes to cause so much chaos.
Since he used to smoke, he started candy as a way to stop smoking and it slowly replaced his smoking habit (as I have yet to see him smoke otherwise, but keep in mind I’m not far into the manga and mostly I’m going off the ARB story).
---
Gentaro Yumeno
All writers are perfectionists (I’d know as one).
He’s probably very particular about the details and doesn’t like doing things without a plan.
He’s the lyric write for Fling Posse’s raps and does not enjoy making up lyrics on the spot; however he can if he must – This is also why he carries the book everywhere.
I honest to god don’t feel like he’s of this world and whatever his actual form is (irony in his rap name?), it scared Ramuda enough to create Fling Posse, so here they are.
---
now for the dice ones… it’s gonna be long!
---
Dice Arisugawa
He is, unfortunately, very oblivious to romantic approaches – especially from close friends such as his division members, for he’s been with them for so long that he can never imagine them falling in love with him.
He has abandonment issues/a fear of abandonment because his mother left him.
Speaking of his mother, Dice likely knows how to do “noble” things because he was raised by a politician; i.e. how to play piano and stuff like that.
Adding on top of that, I feel like Dice has an accumulation of many different skills from being all over the place – He learned how to do card tricks by watching others, and he probably learned bird calls from spending time with Rio.
He undoubtedly has ADHD (as a person with ADHD myself, you cannot tell me I am wrong)!
He’s well aware that’s he a leech, but he can’t stop himself because the addiction is stronger and he feels terrible about it; it’s why he often begs instead of anything else that would fit his character more.
He’s a very talkative person and often rambles to get his thoughts organized.
He doesn’t like being put into awkward situations or forced into silence because he is used the buzz of a casino and a busy city.
Relating to the ADHD canon, Dice puts his life on line not only for the thrill of it, but to keep his mind off of thoughts, and it’s also why he gambles; so he can focus on one thing.
He is numb to change because he’s a gambler.
He is very good at adapting to a new environment.
He doesn’t like being looked down up and that’s why he started gambling; to prove that he’s worth something.
He uses humor to cope if he can’t get his mind off of things with the thrill of gambling.
---
Extras (Fling Posse all together)
Dice has weird limbs, so clothing fits him weird, and Ramuda started making clothes for them because of that.
Ramuda chased after Dice after he stole his signature parka and the Fling Posse star was embroidered on later by Ramuda after the formation of Fling Posse.
Ramuda likely pulls whatever strings he has access to to make life easier for his division members (not that it stops them from getting into trouble, that is).
Gentaro spends a lot of time away when writing and likely forgets he’s even alive during those periods, so his division members make sure he’s still taking care of himself when he gets like that.
They all piss each other off, but in a platonic love kind of way.
---
moving onto matenrou! my favorite division <3
---
Jakurai Jingui
Oh, my poor man’s so tired. He just needs a long break and a spa day; speaking of this, he likely doesn’t ask for help often – it’s the messiah complex he undoubtedly has.
His hair is too long for him to be taking care of it himself, and it definitely looks in fantastic condition, so he definitely takes good care of it – I just don’t think he takes care of it himself; I think he enlists the help of his division members (as I headcanon that Matenrou is in a poly relationship).
Jakurai’s matureness can sometimes get in the way of other things, such as emotional moments, and he can come off as cold or distant when he doesn’t mean to come off that way.
Unlike the other divisions, Jakurai wanted to really separate from his past, and that’s why he named his division Matenrou instead of reusing something from the past. He also probably doesn’t like talking about the past.
His hair is naturally silver, but the lighter shades that are nearly white underneath was caused by stress.
He gets cold quickly, which is why he always keeps the lab coat on, and it’s also why he wears a turtleneck.
Jakurai does live in the same apartment as Doppo and Hifumi, but he’s always so busy that he often can’t get there, so he ends up sleeping at the hospital; he also has a separate apartment of his own that’s closer to the hospital if he has free time, but he’s not off work/off work but still on call.
---
Doppo Kannonzaka
Man, the first thing I thought when I saw him was that he has a choking kink. Enough said. He also likely has a praise kink.
If he didn’t have social anxiety and wasn’t so busy, he’d also probably be going over to Rio’s camp a lot. I think it’s because he’s so overworked that he doesn’t care about what’s in the food; as long as he gets it.
He’s probably passed out from exhaustion more than once and just got used to it.
Despite all his problems, he definitely wants to be known and he wants his name out there; he wants to be just like the other two and he definitely looks up to them already, but he aspires to be them.
He is so thankful for his divison members and he’s glad that they accepted him.
---
Hifumi Izanami
Hifumi is a classic case of “fake it till you make it”; I really don’t know how he became one of the most popular hosts in Shinjuku, but it’s definitely about the fake confidence and the jacket is a comfort object for him that allows him to have that confidence.
He cooks all the time for his division members and he uses the catches from fish all the time, too. He even brings the lunches to their works for them.
---
Extras
Since Hifumi’s always out so late, the others make sure he has everything he needs for whenever he wakes up and sometimes they wait for him.
They’re all in a poly relationship and I refuse to believe anything else; I mean, have you seen those “my room” dialouge in ARB? Fruity.
They probably all love to cuddle whenever they get the chance because they can’t do it often.
They definitely set up one day of the month for all of them to just be together.
---
buster bros time!
---
Ichiro Yamada
This may just be the Ichiro simp in me, but I think he has a very nice tummy that’d be nice to lay on; like a soft one if that makes any sense to anybody other than me.
He’s a very friendly person and if you’re close friends with him, he’s definitely loyal; he’d be willing to drop anything to help you kind of loyal, like he is to his brothers – all that, except the willing to die part.
I think he gets flustered easily and doesn’t know how to respond to compliments. That’s also probably the Ichiro simp in me.
Although he has to stop his brothers from ripping out each other’s throats all the time, he’s very proud of them and of their achievements, no matter what they are. He’s willing to praise them even for the tiniest things to make up for his absence in their lives.
He probably has a terrible sleeping schedule, but he could probably operate on pretty much anything. Two hours of sleep? That’s not an issue for him; he’s used to it.
He’s likely a cheapskate when it comes to himself, but when it comes to his brothers, he spares no expense if he can.
---
Saburo Yamada
He has a superiority complex. I mean, just look at how he acts with Jiro – that’s enough proof right there.
He got into hacking and all of that computer stuff because it was interesting to him; he’s probably pursuing a career in it, considering just how good he is at it. I feel like he’d make a good white hat hacker that tests your website security, like Alma in Va-11 Hall-A.
Call him a library, because he holds grudges for years.
I think he just likes picking arguments because he think it’s funny and there’s nothing better to do when you’re stuck with your brothers (as somebody with a sibling myself, I can attest to that).
---
Jiro Yamada
Anger issues. Yep, that’s it. That’s the headcanon.
Man probably goes dumpster diving to see what kind of treasures he can find; his room is probably full of that kind of junk.
He probably has greasy hair. It doesn’t matter how much he cleans it, it’s just greasy (as somebody with the same issue, go clean your pillows Jiro).
---
Extras
Ichiro has to hold Jiro back from just punching Saburo all the time.
God, somebody save Ichiro from his siblings; with how much they bicker, he probably has taken so much ibuprofen to stop headaches in his life that he should be considered dead from an overdose.
Despite being assholes to each other, they all help each other out – Saburo helps Jiro with his work, Jiro helps Saburo with whatever he can’t do, and Ichiro takes care of the rest. It’s the only thing keeping their bond together.
---
mad trigger crew, my beloved.
---
Rio Mason Busujima
Rio’s very stoic and that often doesn’t break, so it’s very rare to see a smile on his face. He has different smiles for different things too – there’s the business one; one so he doesn’t look as intimidating, and the actual genuine smile that’s very rare to see, but it happens when somebody appreciates his food.
Rio’s not good at understanding emotions and it takes him awhile to process emotions; he goes quiet in these moments and it can be confusing for those who don’t know him, but once he’s thought everything out, he’s very smart about responding.
He’ll never fully adjust to a life outside of the navy and military.
Opposite to Dice, he finds the buzz of a city to be too distracting for his thoughts and he enjoys his solitude, but he doesn’t mind company at all.
Due to how his unit was broken up, he refuses to abide by H law and keeps his gun on him. Even Rio can be spiteful. However, he mostly uses it for hunting, which is why he’s so far out in the forest.
He definitely has a lot of scars and that’s why he often wears his fatigues; he doesn’t wana come off as off-putting. His cards without the jacket did him so dirty. Of course he’d have scars from fighting in World War 3.
He can come up with strategies on the spot and is a very quick-thinker when it comes to combat.
Despite how ruthless he is when it comes to rap battles and being an ex-navy, he’s actually a very gentle soul.
I feel like he’s asexual, but homoromantic.
---
Samatoki Aohitsugi
He only uses the bad guy persona as a way to be left alone, but he’s actually a very kind person.
Despite being a yakuza, he actually abides to the H law and it’s probably only because of Nemu (however, this is only based off of the anime, so I can’t say for certain, but I haven’t seen anything in the manga disproving otherwise yet).
I just feel like he eats a lot throughout the day. I can’t explain this one, but he has the vibes.
He also knows how to cook quite well himself, and he does it for his division members sometimes.
---
Jyuto Iruma
He’s very cocky because he knows he can get away with things; I mean, he’s the authorties, why wouldn’t he get cocky about what he can do? However, it’s somewhat annoying to Samatoki.
If he wasn’t a gay bastard, Samtoki and Rio probably would’ve been arrested long ago. Thankfully for them, he is a gay bastard.
He likes looking good no matter what; it helps his confidence, so he dresses up to go out anywhere.
His glasses are probably just reading glasses.
He likes spending money on expensive things.
---
Extras
Samatoki and Jyuto are in a relationship. They’re so fruity that I’m sure I don’t have to explain this one.
Samatoki doesn’t approve of Rio dating Dice at all and it’s only because of Jyuto that Dice is still alive.
Rio is pretty much their marriage counselor; he has to constantly deal with them bickering, so of course he is. He’s pretty much the adopted child to save their marriage.

Ships

Poly Matenrou

i will likely make a separate post for the ship headcanons because this will be much longer, but i think this covers all of them anyway, so here you go. enjoy.

Bay’s 2021 Writing Summary
Another year, another writing summary. Alright, let's do this!
Pokemon Fics Foul Play (Chapters 27-30)- So I posted a few more chapters of Foul Play! The start of the final arc and woo we get Guzzlord's appearnce finally. Bad news, those were the last of my backlog chapters and I put the story on hiatus for now because of that among other reasons. I hope to get back to this fic sometime next year after I make good progress on another fic project that's been in the planning stages for so long.
Burning Bright- A short Kabu centric fic I wrote for the prompt, "The day in the life of a gym leader." I chose Kabu as I'm already intrigued by him and I wanted to do a Galar fic. He's fun to write!
Hollyrain- I wrote this as a gift fic for the Canalave Library Yuletide. The prompt I chose was "Pokemon meeting their trainer for the first time" and one of the Pokemon they listed was Hydreigon. Writing the Deino line is tricky to write due to Deino and Zwelious being blind and Zwelious having two heads, but I'm satisfied with the results for now!
FE3H Fics
To Carry the Burden -  A short Dedue/Mercedes fic I wrote for the prompt "midnight." First time writing Dedue so I don't think I did his dialouge 100% justice but I still like the idea I had going for him and Mercedes. And yeah, can you tell I like writing trauma nightmares?
Dancing Orchids- Again with the trauma nightmares for Dedue! Why I like him to suffer? = P  Anyways, Did another Dedue centric fic to pratcing writing more of him and got a little better with handling him. I also enjoy writing the original Duscur characters I came up with also.
One Two Punch- So last year I mentioned writing for the Balthus: Solaris Zine but I wasn’t allowed to post it until a few months after. Since I posted this year, here’s a link! Had an absolute blast writing it and surprised some readers really liked the little Nader backstory I gave. Earlier this year Nader’s VA passed away unexpectedly so I did a little nod to him in my notes.
Burnt Fishes- A short Dimitri/Dedue gen fic I wrote for the Dimitri Exchange over at Twitter. The recipient wanted something to do with a cooking disaster and I had Dimitri be terrible at cooking haha. They enjoyed it in the end!
Run Like Wolves- A Felix/Annette fic I wrote for the Netteflix Week exchange. The prompts I went for are protect and travel, and the premise I had was Felix protecting expected Annette from a monster attack. Had quite a few comments saying it was cute in the end haha.
Morning Delight- Short explict Dimitri/Byleth fic I wrote for Dimileth Fever Hot Flash event over at Twitter. Finally wrote something for my FE3H OTP. You know Dimitri's paralogue where one of the choices you can have Byleth say, "I'll whisk you away to the celebration"? Yup, that's what inspired this piece.  Had a couple comments mention how soft and gentle the piece was, which made me very happy!
Of Monsters and Children- Another Dimitri/Byleth fic I wrote for Halloween. Dimitri and Byleth's son runs away to fight a monster and they experience Adult Fear. Concept a bit similar to Run Like Wolves, but I totally can see them going to save their kid and kicking butt. Also wrote a blog post of how the Dimileth kids were based off two child characters from the Professor Layton and Ace Attorney crossover.
I also wrote two other FE3H fics, one written in advance for Dimileth Big Bang and one for Secret Seteth. However both won't be posted until next year, so I can't say anything about those two pieces just yet. Both of them together added an extra, um, 15K words lmao. Excited to show off those pieces soon, though!
Other Fics
In Sheep's Clothing (Ace Attorney)- An Ace Attorney fic that's a character study of Nahyuta from Spirit of Justice. I actually wrote the draft back in 2017, but left it aside for various reasons until a couple months ago when AA Prosecutors Week was going on Tumblr and Twitter. Even though it was written four years ago, there were some passages from it that I like.
FINAL So 2021 not a bad writing year for me! Mixture of FE3H and Pokemon and in addtion finally posted In Shep's Clothing. There were some doubts on my writing as usual. I applied to a few zines that I was interested in, but didn't get in any. The one that hit hardest for me was when I didn't get accepted to one that focuses on dark-type Pokemon and trainers because I've been writing Foul Play for so long and when I didn't get accepted it made me feel my characterizations of Grimsley and Nanu aren't great. I did a bit soul searching on my relationship with zines, and in the end the current zine scene isn't for me and that's fine.
Now for 2022 I already want to get both Foul Play and my Dimileth Big Bang completed. The Dimileth fic I'll need to have it all or at least most completed in the summer while Foul Play there's five chapters left and I want to be free lol. I do bounce back, and I truly think Grimsley and Nanu's story deserve their story to end high.
Another idea that I would like to do is a GAA one based off this idea from the kink meme. VAMPIRES AU! I loved GAA and I've been following a Twitch streamer playing it and kinda in that GAA high.
I think I said this last year, but I would also like to tinker a bit on my original fic idea. I started with a few notes/summaries but not made much progress after that. If I don't get to the writing process maybe I'll at least post some notes on characters, themes, and such at least which hopefully will motivate me to work on the original story more. After Dimileth Big Bang and Foul Play, I would like to focus on this along with my GAA vampire au!

New X-Men Xtrospective Part 3: Imperial (NXM #121-126)
Tumblr media
To me all you happy people! And welcome back to my X-Citing look at Morrison’s Masterwork on Marvel’s Merry Mutants!  Part One is HERE, Part Two is HERE if you feel like it.
If not... to catch you up on last time....
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
All Caught up? Good. Join me under the cut as our heroes head into this old woman’s hedd to see what’s wrong and fight off an alien army while horribly ill.
Tumblr media
Silent, Psychic Rescue in Process:
So we pick up not long after we left off: Thanks to Beast waking up from his bat induced coma, the X-Men now know Charles is trapped in Cassandra’s body and she pulled a Freaky Friday on him, with marginally less bullets.
And thus we get this issue. This one was part of Nuff Said, an incredibly clever theme month by Marvel and one I wish they’d try and do again at some point in some form.
The gimmick was simple but amazing: Every issue would be mostly silent, with at most some dialouge at the start and finish to bookend it. So far i’ve only read two issues of this, this one and the X-Statix one, but it is a genuinely great idea. I do think forcing it on the entire line was a bit much, but as I said I do wish they’d do this again just make it optional: have some books opt in or do some annuals with the theme. It’s just a fun break from the usual and with this issue resulted in one of the best single issues of x-men period.
Naturally given the name, which is cleverly displayed on a sign the x-men have because of course they do, it’s exaclty that: Emma and Jean after readying themselves (Jean kisses Scott goodbye and Emma downs a bottle of jack because why not do an alchol before doing delecate mental surgery), head in.
Inside they find horrific old lady head doors, stone ol dlady heads around a tower that shoot lasers, and said doors also bite and puke weird goop because it’s Grant Morrison. This is his chance to just go full balls out weird.. and given last time involved skin flake golemns.. and this isn’t even the weirdest he’s done. As mentioned last time he once had a supervillian run for president using a super LSD Bike that made everyone high.
And just to prove he can reach that level of weirndess we find charles alone, naked and with an overenlarged brain.. before he transitions Jean to a field of sperm.
Tumblr media
Yeah... but this DOES have a point.. as it turns out it’s a meaphorical transition into his gestation as a baby.. and how he had a twin. Yeah turns out Cassandra was not lying he did try to kill her.. but as you can probably tell by the fact she’s a genocidal sociopath, she lied by omission to screw with Hank: In the womb she tried strangling Charles to death with his own umbilical cord..only for him to use baby’s first psonic blast to send her reeling and his mom tumbling down the stairs and well.. you can probably guess the rest. Yeah.. Cassandra’s entire origin story is concentrated
Tumblr media
And I love it. The sheer audacity is nice and everything but what makes it really work for me is the simple concept: An evil version of charles, one almost born at the same time whose every bit as evil as he is good.. granted there’s a TON of Morally Grey in Charles Xavier ESPECIALLY post decimation and even more so now with Krakoa. But he’s sitll at his heart a well meaning person, while Cassandra at her heart is a racist genocidal nightmare. She is pure evil, with enough personality to not make her boring.. and more importanlty all the power charles has but NONE of his restraint. Part of what makes Charles noble is he only uses his powers when necessary. Cassandra.. has no such restraint and will happily mentally snap necks all day.
So with this our heroine’s leave and we end on the iconic line “Professor Xavier killed his twin sister in the womb. We Really ought to talk.
This issue is an utter classic. It finally explains Cassandra a bit while still leaving a ton of questions, Frank Quitely is at his best here, and he and morrison are incrediby good at non verbal storyteling. The result is surreal, unsettling and awesome. Check it out. Seriously seek this one out it’s worth the trip. It’s so famous it was homaged with a spirtual sequel in the recent Giant Size X-Men one shots. It’s excellent stuff
Imperial:
So with our first issue we open with things going terrible on that flag ship Cassandra took off on with Lilandra, empress of the Shiar and Xavier’s space wife. She’s revealed herself, is ravaging the ship and mind rapes a the helmsman into crashing it, so with no other options Lilandra sends Smasher, not the one from the avengers run earlier version, to earth to send a warning to the X-Men.
At the School things are actually going well for a second. In an intresting move the school is changing things up with no officla timetable.. which I think means there’s no rigid class schedule and you can just do them as you please or as necessary for your power. The plan’s the same, they just want to learn from each other in building mutant society and the future. It’s ideas like this that are the bedrock of the current run and were sadly never fully realized here.. but I don’t blame this run for that. Morrison had 2-3 years and it was cut short early, leading to a rather disapointing ending we’ll get to. They never had a chance to really dig in because they were kicked out by morons and then their whole grand design was undone until Hickman un-undid it in 2019. And even then some of this like the idea of mutant culture and what not hasn’t been picked up on yet. I do mean YET, as given the sheer NUMBER of x books touching on all sorts of subjects, it’s only a matter of if not when.
As for who’s behind this it’s a combination of Jean and Charles: Jean is using charles notes and is going at full tilt. Scott is concerned though.. both about her since she went Phoenix and Logan told him about it and because these plans may alarm the humans. ON the former Jean just brushes him off which is not right.. given what happened with the phoenix force copy of jean, which granted had her personality, memories and powers and Jean later got a set of her memories so it might as well of been and only MAYBE the genocide is something Jean wouldn’t of done under the same circumstances, he’s understandably concerned. He lost her to it last time and it did weird shit to poor Rachel, who hif you don’t know is their daughter from an alternate timeline... because the Summer’s family tree is a WAKING NIGHTMARE. Thankfully I don’t have to untangle it because there’s a handy chart right here to do it for me that was recently released in X-Men Legends, a new series featuring legendary x creators telling stories in the cracks... and given we’re getitng storys by the simosons and peter motherfucking david, yeah good stuff.
Tumblr media
And why yes there are more than one clone in this tree and several alternate timelines. , not to mention several clones and a sexy cat lady, it’s complicated is understnading it and i’m not sure what properly states it honestly. Also if your wondering about Adam there he’s the genetic son of Cyclops mom and the ma Shiar empreror who killed her for not sleeping with him through. Again it’s complicate REALLY feels like understatement.
Point is he DOES have a right to be worried about the thing that lead to her being cocooned for a while and left their daughter in the future at the time of this... just in case you needed a reminder after that wonderful clusterfuck of a chart up above athe x-men are really fucking weird.
So Jean brushing that off is not okay. She does however call him out on the second one and rightfully so: This isn’t some dominate the humans manifesto: this is simply changing the course of the future and how they teach their students to create a better one instead of adhering to human norms to try and appease “the republicans’, as jean puts it.. which has only gotten MORE RELEVANT, 20 years on: Attempts to appease the norms of society and things “just because that’s how it’s been” have never been a good thing. It’s why the very writer of this comic took several decades to properly identify themselves as non binary because people were too stuck int heir ways to try and see if there really were just two genders. Fighting against the grain, finding new ways to express things that have always been there... it’s what humanity needs to do and certainly what comes after us would need to do. i’ts how we get better as a race. If something’s not working we change it, quickly or slowly. And given Scott’s huge amount of emotoinal repression lately.. I can see why she’d see the former complaint as just him being a dick as opposed to the genuine concern it is.
Short Version: Jean Grey is fucking awesome and while he’d be the last to write her for decades, no one did it better than Grant and no one has since.  Hopefully Gerry Duggan can clear that bar.
After this fight we get a fuller verson of what happened both at the end of issue 120 and in the big reveal last issue: Turns out Hank awoke because Charles piloted his body like a truck and needed it revealed fast. Hank’s regained control of his body and facilities by now, but in a twist of irony he helpfully points out, had Cassandra not gone a needlessly cruel and sociopathic tangent and had Beak beat Beast into a coma, Charles wouldn’t of had a body.
As for Charles in cass’ body he’s now in a tub of goo created by it.
Tumblr media
It acts as a shield as well as melding him with Cerebra so he can talk to jean telepathically as his thoughts are very weak.
Thanks to this and her psychic Jaunt, Jean now knows just what the hell cassandra is: She really is Charles twin sister. As for how the hell she surivied outside of the womb and how Charles never knew, she created herself a clone body using his cells and didn’t fully manifest till now. And while she has plenty of intellegence, at an emotional level she’s fully convinced, much like an infant that only she and charles are real and thus destroying him means gaining domance over her world. So in short she’s both utterly insane and now has an interstellar empire at her fingertips.
Tumblr media
And the news SOMEHOW get sworse: She booby trapped her body and charles only has days before he’s vegatable, having put every psychological disease possible in there, and she’s probably responsible for their colds and the u-men. So in short their pretty scrwed but at the very least Charles plans to try to flip things, use the fact their now public (a clear tactic to weaken them) to share his manefesto, his last will and testiment if you would.
Scott meanwhile figures since their sick a healer might be a good idea and goes solo to fetch Xorn... who just sorta disappeared after the annual and didn’t return till his arc.
Tumblr media
We get an utterly touching scene after this: With Logan staying on his hobbit like toes in case of another attack, Jean goes to talk to hank. Hank is still throughly traumatized from the attack, fearing Cassandra is right and he’ll just keep devlovling until he ends up in a metamoprhisis type situation. I mean it’s not ALL bad hank,.. I mean going through that guarantees a musical about you.
youtube
But Jean reassures him: It’s okay to be afraid of her, they all are.. but as she puts it...
Tumblr media
It’s a really powerful inspiring scene... and really afirms how well Morrison writes Jean from the previous arc onward. She’s confident, powerful.. but also caring and compassionate. Here hank’s at his lowest, disparing that this might get worse.. and she reaffirms that htis evolution is an upgrade.. he may not be the same.. but that’s okay. He’s better. It really speaks to the core message of the X-Men as a whole and why they’ve stuck around all this time: It’s not just okay your diffrent.. it’s WONDERFUL. Your wonderful for being you. Whatever meataphor you read into it, it’s at it’s core a message that no matter who hunts you or trys to shame you for what you are, they are wrong and you are wonderful. And you are not alone... your people are out there.. and they will go through hell to protect you. It’s moments like this that remind me despite the bad parts, the accidnetal transphobic metaphor last time, a subplot with Hank coming up, the affair storyline and Planet X, just.. Planet X.. this run is special to me for a reason. It has heart, character and truly gets how the x-men should work, what makes them great... while making something NEW AND FRESH from it’s bones. Pushing envelopes, chanigng things for good and shaking things the hell up after far too much stagnation. It’s just pure good comicy goodness and i’m proud to finally be talking about it after having always wanted to.
So as we end the issue Scott grabs Xorn, whose been at a budist temple all this time, and Smasher arrives to warn earth... but his warning missed his intended target.
Tumblr media
Well at least he got to Hellcow’s coven.. maybe she can call in Man Eating Cow and the Chick Fill A Super Cows.. thought hey might not help. Their parent company IS pretty homophobic.. I doubt their high on mutants either.
Testament Emma and Jean talk over things how i’ts going etc, with Emma unsuprisingly annoyed with most of the students and Jean optimsitc.
But Emma soon has bigger issues to deal with: TEEN ANGST!
Tumblr media
Yeah 4/5 of the Cuckoos are upset Esme has a boyfriend. Their concerns in part are because without her their apparently powerless.. which given one will die and another will leave and they’ll be left with three is just factually not true, and either Morrison changed his mind later, or more likely their simply exagerating like teens do. Emma points out it’s pointless to fight this...
Tumblr media
So... their in a domestically abusive relationship rife with sexual tension? Are you sure your not htinking of Sam and Diane, Ross and Rachel, Garfiled and Odie perhaps?
Meanwhile Angel’s sulking in a tree talking about how all the kids are stupid and she dosen’t fit in. That sort of thing. Wolverine naturally has a tactful and understandable response to this:
Tumblr media
It’s here Angel goes from understandable, a bit hard edged and obnoxious becuase of a very rough life.. and just becomes annoying.  I do get what Grant was trying to do: he was trying to play with Wolverine’s habit of taking sassy teens under his wing by giving him a more hardscrabble one with a harder life pre-xaviers.. not that Jubilee’s was easy, but I get what he was going for.. he just dosen’t succeed. Instead of a realistic version of a teen sidekick she just comes off as an obnoxious brat whose rude to everyone including her one friend Logan and her later boyfriend.  It dosen’t help that ONCE AGAIN, Morrison flew directly into unfortunate implications without meaning to, by having the only major POC character (Bishop guest stars later and there are two significant characters during the Riot at Xaviers arc but both aren’t relevant before or after), be an abused teen with gross fly based powers and a teen pregnancy subplot. Seriously this isn’t even the LAST time Morrison shoves their foot in their mouth like this in this run. While I do like this run a lot, it’s still 20 years old and it’s still going to have a bunch of bits that have aged like harvarti left on a sidewalk, and handing out unfortnuate implications like their candy is tied for the biggest with their handling of Magneto when he finally shows up in person. It’s THAT bad a take on the character that it’s up there with accidental racisim and transphobia.
So moving on from.. that we get Jean comforting the professor before meeting the press, giving a throughly lovely speech about how Charles got his powers 30 years ago and despite seeing the worst in humanity, used his telepathy to allow him to see past it and see deep down just how scared and alone we all felt. So she takes them into a psychic conference room and we get a very interesting exchange.
Tumblr media
It’s an interesting parallel to how real world disinfranchised groups, how it takes time.. but soon being a POC or LBGTQ+ goes from unrightfully perscuted to celebrated. How a group starts with hates whipsers on the fringe of things but grows to be accepted, like it always SHOULD have been. Take representation of Trans people in the media. It started with Trans people being almost entirely punchlines and sources of fucking horendous “DID DEY USED TO BE A MAN.” storylines and hurtful jabs at people who had transitioned, treating them as a sideshow instead of you know as fucking human beings. But now coming out as what you always were ont he inside is celebrated. Sure the right are dicks about it but they always will be: but most media gladly celebrates when someone comes out as trans. Same with being gay, or bi or pan or polamorus or nonbinary.  Hell I admire grant for showing i’ts not even 100% perfect once you are popular: you still have to grapple both with people wanting to copot your culture and those who still don’t understand you trying to speak for you.
She also gets the standard question calling the X-Men an army, shoots it down with the normal global peacekeeping operation stuff.. then we get this bitch.
Tumblr media
Who quickly realizes she’s outclassed by Emma Frost, professional that bitch. And while Jean is understandbly going to have to erase that.. I can’t blame her for snapping her.
Just to tear this shit down.: The privacy thing is not something she’s doing. All she’s doing is spcyhic teleconfrencing, you harpy. They fight greek gods and monsters to protect your sorry ass and the last one.. just makes me absolutely livid and feels so much like a real world comment i’m suprised there isn’t a fox news logo next to her bigoted head.
Trouble follows them everywhere they go.. because their mutants. They can’t help it. A LOT of shit like the demons, aliens, and gods and what not, I do not know if they actually did fight the greek gods but i’m not going to say for sure they did not, the norse gods defintely, not sure on greek. But the point is allt his stuff HAPPENS TO THEM half the time, or is a consequence of trying to PROTECT PEOPLE. I’m so nettled by this because this is how the marvel unvierse acts all the fucking time towards ALL super powered peoples. Mutants esepcailly but they blame the heroes and what not for being chased and harassed by guys in costumes or alien invasions or all the stuff they FIGHT. Sure sometimes they caused it but it’s either because of a monsterous person with a grudge or just because their powerful and some douche took an intrest. I’m just.. so fucking tired of asshole civlians in comics. It’s realisitc I know but it’s just hard to stomach after so many have turned their back on so many for such DUMB reasons.
Jean recovers well pointing out the genocide and how 16 million people, 16 million possible einsteinss or mozarts are just GONE, and that their trying to focus on the future. She also brings up autistic savants who can talk to atoms and while I don’t like the use of the savant thing, as it brings to mind stuff like rainman I very badly want to see this autistic kid who can talk to atoms as someone on the spectrum myself. Also I just want the crew of HIckma’ns books in general to pour over this because there are a lot of intresting powers and personalities only MENTIONED we never saw proper that could be great characters. Just saying.
Jean cocludes her speech to the world, including Logan whose wisely getting hammered at anearbye bar.. while Hank finds out what’s going on with their sickness.. nanonscopic sentnels in the blood.
Tumblr media
But while the press confrence ends well with Jean having won over the press.. things go sideways as not only is it clear Esme’s boyfriend is in fact something sinister.. but Jean falls over due to the nano snetinels, and senses Scott being taken in tibet, taken down by a group of the Shiar’s imperial guard.. picutre the legion of superheroes but blindly loyal to the goverment and far more likely to get killed. And the rest are preparing to attacking including Gladiator who if you don’t know him, has all the powers of superman as long as he retains his confidence.
And it turns out Esme’s boyfriend is an advanced Scout, the shapeshifting amoeba blob thing Stuff, a new addition by morrison and good on him. And the Imperial Guard are here but with one goal
Tumblr media Tumblr media
 Superdestroyer
On the Ship we find out both wha’ts going on with Scott and Xorn, they’ve been taken and why the shiar are attempting mutant genocide: Cassandra is puppeting ALL of them, has convinced them the mutants are infected and since Lilandra is a puppet, Scott’s words fall on deaf ears.
Meanwhile Wolverine ambushes one of the squads, kiling one named Dinosaurer via claw to the brain, while Emma has had a dome thing put over her head and isn’t transforming into diamond to counter it because...
Tumblr media
But the Cuckoos fight back, taking out oracle before easily handling stuff since his brain is fairly simple.. and given he’s racist against solid people and unlike the others reveling in the genocide just a tad.. yeah what he deserves. So now with a living weapon the Cuckoos make peace with Angel as they need all the help they can get.
Jean ushers the press into the panic room, not happy about it but not having anothe roption for their saftey. Hank tells her to self distruct crebra if cassandra get sclose and goes off to join the fight and let off some steam over the situation. Hank easily routes two of them, and one , Manta tries to just fly right ot jtean wince their TK proof. How does that go?
Tumblr media
Jean gets to saftey after that, not that she needs it and hank is quickly taken down by a batch of Superguardians.. only for Wolverine to arrive in the Sknitt of time and chop them up.. oh and as one of the puts it...
Tumblr media
Bad. Ass. I also like the addition of the flight patch, a nod to the Legion, who the Imperial Guard were based on as those kids used flight rings.
But while Logan and Hank easily tag team these assholes...
Tumblr media
The SHiar call in the big guns.. Gladiator.. and I wasn’t kidding abotu the superman thing. While Logan TRIES to talk him out of it, the murders only confirm Cassandra’s bullshit and Gladiator breaks into the panic room throwing hank and wolverin’e before them having utterly decimated them off panel. I mean Wolvie is a badass.. but even he has limits. I also like recontecullizing the guard as a whole here.. showing just how TERRIFYING they SHOULD be as enimies to the x-men. Yes our heroes did win.. but barely and only till Gladiator showed up. In most cases thier clearly holding back out of affection but here hteir just at errifying unstoppable force, and also apparently used to doing genocides like this. It takes what was a cheesy shout out to David Cockrums other big artistic work, and makes it horrifying and it is AWESOME. I admit to not having liked this arc as much for the longest time but this reread, the sheer teror and hopleessness as an interstellar superman easily cuts through our mighty mutants like tissue... it’s awesome.
Thankfully one of the Guard found smasher.. and thus the truth comes out so our heroes are given a stay of execution with Gladiator clearly horrified at what he almost did and our heroes now so sick they can barely move and Hank can’t think them out of this.
Thankfully he dosen’t has to as back in space, Cyclops tires of it and points out something Xorn, not being as experinced nor having delt with the guard ahd thought of: G-Type, the glowly guy about to execute them, is made of solar energy.. and xorn can manipulate that thanks to his star brain. He does, they take out the rest.. and prepare to go save the day.
Losers: PIcking up shortly before where we left off we see Cassandra murder Lilandra’s advisor who figured out what she was just as our heroes escape.. and as Cassandra is having Lilnadra order all of the shiar ships to immolate themselves.
WIth Lilandra not being any use, Cass tries to psychically force her to commit sucidie but jumping off a space ledge but Xorn saves her. Cass tries another turn at mentally breaking an x-man, pointing out all scott’s recent flaws, his increased repression his faling marriage and while it gets him to stop it dosen’t quite work as well as it did on hank, likely because at his heart Hank is simply a more emotive person. Though his REAL reason for stalling is he can’t kill charles.. which he muses just as the ship blows up real good.
Meanwhile back at Campus the kids initaiate their plan, having Angel break in and take a dna sample. She also finds beak naked in a tank and decides eh why not and brings him with her. This ends up paying off as Beak suggests the obvious to get emma free.. just force the space guy they have over in the corner to do it. They do and it works
Back in the mansion our heroes prepare for Casssandra... but Jean and Logan object to saving her body, pointing out that getting hank to repair it is exactly what she wants, and that Jean feels she can save charles without uit, with Hank being understandably doubtful given their current condition.. but Jean’s real plan is to put charles in her head and it’s already too far in actoin to stop now: she’s been saving his memories as they flaked off and if she dosen’t do this now there will be no charles left.
Hank evacuates the civlians to teh danger room, and has an encounter with trish who tries to apologize and get him back.. only for him to rightfully regjecter her..a and then goes a step further by capping it off with:
Tumblr media
Yeah on it’s own it’s not TERRIBLE. Still very dated to claim your gay just to spite someone, but for the time it was acceptable and compared to some of Morrison’s other gaffes in the run it’s minor at best. But it leads into a rather annoying subplot we’ll naturally get to that’s a much bigger issue, so i’ll save talking about it in full for when it comes up again.
Jean manages to shove Chuck into her head, but is naturally leaking a bit and barely holding it or him together and may of overestimated herself just a tad.. while on the lawn Cassandra easily takes out the guards. That said the scene of Jean taking Chuck into her head is REALLY damn awesome. Jean is the arc MVP by a mile and Hank is pretty dang good competition.
All Hell: We open the final issue of the arc with Scott and Xorn escaping the spaceship using some teleport tubes taking Arakai and Lilandra with them.
We open with Cassadra utterly humilating gladiator while the kid team prepares to fight her despite you know, the 8 billion to 1 odds against them.
Jean, despite hte discknes and trying to keep an old man in her brain marches out , prepared to fight, for the kids sake. For the world’s sake. But Logan’s easily taken out and with Jean barely holding it together.. the kids prepare to fight.. likely being slaughtered even if they mean well.. onlyf or help to finally arrive with Scott and Xorn glowy porting in. We get a really sweet , short moment with scott and jean...
Tumblr media
Scott not knowing the situation tries to have Xorn heal charles first but since Cassandra’s body is dead and unoccupied that’s a no go.. he’s still usefult hough, curing Jean of her nanosentital sickness and moving on to Scott and Hank while there’s still time.
We find out more about cassandra: She’s a murrmadi, a bodyless parasite.. eseetinally the dark first test a person faces... she just stuck around because she was one for a telepath.. the world’s STRONGEST telepath. But really other than that part the rest just feels like stuff we alreayd heard LAST TIME, mildly repaackaged and seems enitrley like filler to pad the issue out.
So while Jean takes cerebra, both to keep it away from Cassandra’s plans of mutant genocide and for whatever she has planned, Scott, Hank and Xorn prepare to hold the line.. and as Jean mentions.. emma’s still out in the wild.
So we get our climactic showdown.. logan, hank and xorn veruss cassandra, with Cassandra trying to do eveyrthing she can, tear them down mentally, throw out the students with our heroes fighting back best they can. It’s good stuff.
Eventaully Cassandra gets to Jean.. but she’s already inacted her plan, putting a piece of Xavier’s mind in EVERY mutant, and giving Cassandra one ohell ofa reason you suck speech.
Tumblr media
It’s an incapsulation of what i said earlier and what the runs about: alone we are weak but together.. we just might make it. More on that as we go. But thanks to Cass naturally going fo rcerberba.. she accidently restores charles and is left bodyless.
Emma finishes the fight with her own brilliant gambit, presending cassandra her body.. but it’s actually stuff , reprogrammed into a sentient brain for her to inhabit and leaving her trapped, with Charles hoping t teach the now mentally reset Cassandra.  So Cassandra is beat, the virus is stopped, and our heroes have one.. but naturally for this run.. there’s one last suprise in store.
Tumblr media
Charles can walk again.. and going forward will be a far more active member of the team. The team is complete, Cassandra is beaten, and the future.. is bright.
Final Thoughts:
This arc is a mixed bag.. it has really good scenes with the first and last issues being the standouts, with the former being an utter classic with an intresting gimick and the latter being a rousing climax with tons of awesome moments, with some good mometns scattered throughout.
But that’s the arc’s issue.. it has good moments and ideas.. but they don’t quite work togehter. The idea of teh Shiar Imperial Guard nearly doing a genocide is good, but the Shiar are such flat characters.. it’s really hard to care. They just don’t have enough connection to the x-men to really have the betryal sting but aren’t callous enough for genocide protocols to maeks sense. It’s a good idea, I still support it being terrifying.. but not enough is done with it and it feels liek Grant is more concerned with throwing weirdos at the x-men than actually saying something.
The biggest issue however is the art. While inconsitant art is an issue as they’d rotate artists.. but in previous arcs it was usually pretty evenly split but here it’s sloppy: Quitely does the first issue, van Sciver the second.. and the worst of the three Igor Kordey does most of the art. I gave him the beinfit of the doubt last time.. but this time not so much. His art is muddy and tries to be stylized but comes off confusing, ugly and not great. He’s probably a lovely guy but given he’s up against two legendary artists, his lack of style comapred to both shows badly.  And given the arc is alreayd a bit overly complicated, it makes things WORSE by giving us muddled art in a very complex storyline. The flip flopping art makes a fairly intricate story very hard to follow. It’s easily why this arc didn’t grab me in the past and even seeing some better moments, it’s not the series best. It’s not the worst either, Planet X easily takes that ground despite having far better art. It’s an incredibly muddled incredibly long feeling arc and really needed to be compressed by one or two issues but instead is just hard to get through. It’s owrth it for the rest of the runa nd the good moments within but all in all easily one of the weakest points in the series.

Wanted to just write something on the spot for fun, here’s more Demise content :) I also apologize if I fucked up Herdier’s dialouge, he doesn’t have an accent in my language’s translation and I’m literally using a translator to write his speech lmao
It’s been a few hours since the Glacier Palace could be seen from the hill in Post Town. It was still up in the air and most of the residents hid in their homes in fear without putting up a fight, Demise themselves admittedly being one of them. After they locked themselves in their room in Swanna’s Inn, they spent the past hour on the hill, thinking about the situation. Normally, this place was relaxing to them, but the sight of the Palace in the distance made them uneasy instead.
The Grass-Type hovered restless on the hill. Their gaze switched between their own reflection in the pond, the purple and black sky with an orange horizon as the time went from dawn to dusk and the formation of ice still looming in the distance, as they were trying to take the situation in.
Looking back at it, it was stupid that they ran off. Sure they were afraid, but it’s no use if they don’t fight against the problem. And Demise has found a handful of reasons not to give up too. There are still some Pokemon who act rude towards them, but it’s far from all. Swanna and Cofagrigus have supported them from the very start, Swadloon and Lillipup often visited and spent time with them for a while now and Leavanny and Herdier have gained respect in them as well, even if it’s just because of the kids.
They, too, were another reason for them to act.
Demise hasn’t got to know Lillipup and Swadloon for a very long time, but they’re the closest they’ve been to any Pokemon since stranding on Mist Continent. The two young Pokemon didn’t make judgements around them in the first place and even considered them a friend simply because they helped Lillipup once. Protecting them and their family is the very least they could do for the boys who still had their whole lives ahead of themselves. Even if they had reasons to give up for themselves, they should’ve thought what this means for the kids earlier as well.
Demise made their decision right then. They needed to talk to Leavanny and Herdier and get them to support Team Scales together. Things couldn’t be over just yet.
---------------------------------------
The Pokemon headed towards Swanna’s Inn. Shortly before reaching the entrance, another Pokemon ran out of the building, tackling Demise which startled them for a moment before realizing who it was.
“Lillipup?”
“Auncle Demise! Granpa and Leavanny have to talk to you!” the small Pokemon shouted out as if he were in hurry. Demise was surprised.
“Oh, they do? I was just planning to do the same. Are they in the Inn?”
Lillipup nodded in response.
“Right with Swanna. Come on now!” he said before running back inside. Demise followed him closely.
Like Lillipup told them, the two Pokemon were with Swanna, and Swadloon was there as well. The group of Pokemon looked up when Lillipup and Demise came towards them.
“’at was quick.” Herdier noted surprised.
“They were already on their way here, I just met them at the square.” Lillipup explained.
“Now that all of us are here-” Leavanny paused in her sentence and looked at Demise. “I will explain why we’ve called you here. Herdier and I have decided to talk to Swanna who was the only one who was willing to support Team Scales back there, as you may have noticed.”
Demise only nodded, letting Leavanny continue.
“The two of us wanted to help too. Neither of us could forgive ourselves if anything were to happen to Swadloon or Lillipup and just that is reason enough for us to pick ourselves up. That’s why we hoped to get your help as well.”
Before Demise could even respond, Lillipup jumped up.
“Please Auncle Demise! I- We know you don’t have it very easy here but.. but, I don’t want to loose you, or granpa or Swadloon. I don’t want to-”
The puppy paused when the Seaweed Pokemon put a leaf on his head, like a comforting pat.
“It’s alright, Lillipup. I’ve made my decision already. There’s no way I’m letting you all down.
Lillipup smiled. “Thank you so much! Really!”
Swanna then finally came to word.
“Now that it’s settled, let’s make our way to the Paradise.”
---------------------------------------
On their way to the house of Team Scales, Swanna went ahead with the children while Herdier, Leavanny and Demise followed at a distance and talked on their own. Herdier spoke up first.
“Demise, Ah am sorry fur mah harsh behavioor towards ye. Ah ken Ah hae apologized afair, but Ah wanted tae dae it properly again. If th' yoongins see ye as part ay their faimly, 'en sae dae Ah. Ye pure ur a braw pokemon.”
Demise smiled, as far as that was possible with their anatomy.
“No hard feelings. I understand that you were worried for Lillipup. I’m glad that we’re on good terms now.”
“We really have to thank you.” Leavanny said. “Not just for helping Lillipup that one time. Both him and Swadloon never got to know any part of their families outside the two of us. We were always concerned that the boys may feel too lonely with these circumstances, but I believe you gave them some closure. It was even their idea to get your help.”
“You don’t need to thank me for that. As things currently stand, I’m on my own. If it wasn’t for these two, I wouldn’t really have anyone. So I’m glad to belong somewhere.”
“I’m happy for you.”
Before their conversation could last, Swadloon shouted after the three guardians.
“Mom, c’mon you guys are hanging behind!”
Leavanny snickered. “We’re coming!”
The three Pokemon caught up on Swanna and the kids, nearing the base of Team Scales.

I’m finally getting to my golden deer write up! I’ll save the last 2 chapters for a seperate post since those chapters have a LOT of plot relevance and backstory involved.
Chapter 18 starts with Claude talking about the Imperial Army retreating to Fort Merceus and the Alliance is unable to bring extra reinforcements for a month. After a quick debate Claude states that it’s best that they find a way to take the fortress quickly before the Empire can fortify the Fort.
Hilda suggests that they use disguises to sneak into the Fort and Claude ends up refining that idea by acquiring disguises for everyone (Shamir is in charge of that task and she is NOT happy with that lmao), having Ignatz forge and deliver a letter claiming that reinforcements are coming and he also brings in Almyran troops to fool the imperials that the reinforcements are being attacked by the Leicester Alliance to let the main group inside.
Tumblr media
We’re treated to a cutscene where Nader and Claude pretend to start a fight, only for the two of them to laugh and Claude tells the Alliance Troops that they’re fighting with Almyran’s to take the fortress. And my gosh Nader is one strong looking unit here. I’m glad he’s on our side.
The Death Knight along with Casper and Linhardt occupy this Fort, but Linhardt and Caspar are so far away that they’re not any threat. But Claude did have this dialouge before fighting the Death Knight.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
But after one round of battle the guy decides to leave and Claude is forced to chase after him to finish the job to which the dude says the appointed time is at hand...
The death knight warns us to flee or we’ll all die... before he points to the skies  where a pair of fucking missiles come down and devastate the Fort.
Tumblr media
After the battle Nader leaves with his troops, wishing Judith, Claude and Byleth the best. Lorenz asks Claude how he knows such a famed Almyran general but Claude distracts him by giving a big speech that the different cultures of Fodlan and Almyra aren’t doomed to remain hostile forever because of their past... while using Cyril, Dedue and Petra as examples of the people within the officer’s academy getting along despite different backgrounds. I’ll even make a link to that speech right here.
On top of that he mentions that the only reason he was able to get Almyran troops past Fodlan’s Throat was to make Nader and Holst meet up beforehand, and despite fighting each other in the past they managed to become friends, drinking to a newfound brotherhood before parting.
Hearing this makes Hilda says one of my favourite lines in the route: “Fighting one minute and drinking together the next... men are so weird!”
And Chapter 19 is about the Alliance forces invading the imperial capital Enbarr.
Tumblr media
In the lead up before the mission Dorothea mentions that perhaps the city that she was born in deserves to be reduced to ashes for once, and suggests that the damage should be confined to the noble’s section of the town. Damn that’s savage, but it’s understandable considering her history.
The map this battle takes place on is incredibly huge with is quite large with a multiple flying beasts, siege weapons, reinforcements and the death knight’s last battle takes place here. Too bad he died in one hit to Lysithea. Again.
Hubert is the boss for this chapter, and I was smart enough to record the dialogue he has with Claude before he died:
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Hubert has a lot of power behind his magic, but he’s so frail that he fell to Claude’s bow in a single round. With that done the city is secured and we’re almost ready to invade the palace itself.
Dedue shows up unannounced, stating that he’s been waiting within Enbarr ever since the battle at gronder field for a chance to kill Edelgard. Claude offers him a chance the option to team up, but Dedue refuses and says that they fight for different objectives yet he will have to entrust that mission to us if he fails. He does however give us a copy of all the intel he’s gathered while hiding within Enbarr before he departs.
Then Claude takes a moment to talk to Byleth about what they need to do once the war is over, including coming up with a new ruling system for Fodlan. He feels that having the alliance lords dividing up the territories would be a bad idea because the western regions have little connection to the alliance and any attempt to force dominion would only encourage rebellion and the world would slip back into war. He also states that in time the alliance lords would only follow their own interests and war would be inevitable anyway. I’ll link to another post about it right here.
Chapter 20 starts with Claude the golden deer members a warm up speech before they fight edelgard and the following dialogue ensures:
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
And I appreciate claude being pragmatic about whether or not they should kill edelgard, and he tells the other members to be prepared to do the same.
The fight starts with everyone being surrounded by a large number of reinforcements on all sides including a number of massive crest monsters that look like they could flatten your teammates just by looking at them. Petra in particular was an insanely strong enemy with 44 base speed and a forged wo dao+ in her hands.
However I discovered that it was possible for me to use Lysithea to warp both Byleth and Claude into the throne room, bypassing a large majority of the fighting. So on the second turn Byleth walked up to Edelgard and killed her in one shot with a Sublime Heaven Critical to end the chapter.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
And we get this cutscene where Edelgard tells byleth that we have to strike her down to proceed and she says that she wanted to walk with Byleth... and to be honest I was very annoyed with her.
This whole fucking conflict is HER OWN FAULT. She’s the reason that this war started in the first place. People are killing each other because she tried to force her ideals on the rest of the world without any regard for how much innocent blood was shed including the people that were forced to transform into crest monsters. I couldn’t help but feel that I was being forced to clean up her own mess and I was glad to put her six feet underground.
With the battle done, Claude doesn’t feel happy with the results but he figures what’s done is done. Judith comes along and gives him a letter from Hubert that was to be delivered in the case that he and edelgard perished.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
It talks about the threat that slithers in the dark, the group that Kronya and Solon belonged to and killed Jeralt in part 1 and how Hubert was able to figure the location of their base of operations when those ‘Javelin’s of Light’ struck Fort Merceus. And while they do need to be stopped reading the line ‘the only fitting tribute to all that Lady Edelgard sacrificed’ made me feel really frustrated again.
You fucking idiot, the only thing that Edelgard sacrificed was the lives of her own civilians to satisfy her misguided vendetta against the church. If you two hadn’t been so fucking stupid so much unneeded bloodshed could have been avoided.
I’m honestly glad that Claude throws shade at Hubert for not explaining things in the first place.
Tumblr media
And with this I’m going to start talking about chapters 21 and 22 in a new post since this one has gone on for so long.

Fo4 Companions react to sitting by Sole’s graveside:
Hey! This is (another, sorry) rewrite this post from the other day. Again, I’m sorry! But hopefully it’s has improved from the last two times I’ve posted it!
Once again I would like to thank @cyndercrys for helping with the first entry! There’s a “keep reading” block in place in case anyone dosen’t want to read it. As I’ve said before this is an unfinshed reaction.
I just wanna know what you guys think of this new version, and then i will stop asking, i promise!
Thank you again, you guys are amazing!
P.S: I’m sorry about the poor attempts at drunk dialouge!
“Hey, buddy!” Hancock drew out a prolonged cheer, and for a moment at least, his day appeared to be heading towards something a little brighter. Though, honestly, the excitement the ghoul presented had to be somewhat distributed between himself and his friend. For although Hancock was solely visiting down the road from his destination, it had taken him a considerable amount of time and energy to reach this place. A condescending smirk branded his mouth as he attempted, whole-heartedly, to raise a beer for his departed friend. He then attended to the chair that he'd so graceful carried? No. He pushed. No, that wasn't--
"Ahhh, fuck it--not important." He attempted to shove it off.
Though his half bewildered mind was still sharp enough to recall that he'd accomplished this all by himself, however; and yet, in fact, he couldn't even memorise what day it was, let alone distinguish the real worth of his hammered brain. He soon yielded in trying to remind himself about a damn chair. Again.
"Listennn, whoever's up there-ah, haha, whoooever, ha! Allriight. I'ma trying to sit down here. Shut. Up. 'bout a damn chair and let me... shit. Comeon, think of a loooong word. Think... Think! Ahhhh, shit."
He paused. "Wait. Ahhhh. That was, was, was! Was long. Goood enough, there was, was another! Ima gooood at this!" He almost burst out laughing. Despite this newly discovered revelation, he still hadn't even managed to sit down.
In all the distraction, the usually vigilant ghoul was none the wiser to wasting half his beer. Similar to the trip up here, the chair appeared a million miles away. If only he could admit to himself that laughing wasn't helping, but it hadn't even crossed his mind. Though his mind was, once again, too involved in applauding himself for getting a damn object up a hill.
No longer concentrating on what he was supposed to be doing, he squandered yet more of his precious drink. At this point it didn't matter how, all he knew was, he had, and he was a fucking gift to humanity, or ghoul-kind, or...
Wait. Why's this chair so fucking important? Just drop it, brain, will ya?
A not so enthusiastic smile branded what was left of his mouth as Hancock ultimately remembered what he was assumed he was supposed to be doing from the moment he got here, and sluggishly sat, eventually exhilarated to be by his friend’s side again.
Well, maybe not. Nevertheless, the ghoul could mislead himself for a while.
“Hope ya do--doing all right up there, high-high up in the sky, showing "the big man" who’sss boss! Ha! Boss… Go-g-good one.” Admittedly not, but there was no one else up here to consider, and Hancock wasn't about to shoot his own joke in the foot.
Unlike his smile, the one he forged so often when he came here, the thing that was merely a half-hearted attempt to sustain a friendship the ghoul refused to let die.
“So, so much for the "pretend" part, huh? You’ve, uh, probably guessed I'm'a not a-a fan.”
The misleading and fraudulent smile was all he had left of this thing, that was so, so necessary. Although he’d give it all up in a second to even get a remote possibility of getting what he couldn’t have the day Sole disappeared.
There’s supposed to be a goodbye — at the end of a friendship — a sad yet peaceful end. It's supposed to be closure.  If there’s no goodbye and no end, then what happens to people left behind, when does the grief know when to stop?
No reply--and it stabbed at him a little deeper each time--no matter how much he anticipated or experienced the impending silence. It still hurled itself against his chest. The shock penetrated what he refused to believe was a fragile heart.
Fuck, it destroyed him, and there it just remained. But, the proud ghoul still denied it.
Despite his attempts at rejection, Hancock, for all his bravado, felt quite uncharacteristic at that moment. All this trouble seemed meaningless without his friend to laugh with him; to take his mind off it, to support him. He’d already felt his words turning hollow long before they left his mind.
Because even though his mind was drunker than usual, Hancock could not escape the facts. His friend was gone; and despite all he'd already been through, it somehow got through.
He flung himself against the back of the chair. It creaked, threatening to snap. But like a fucked up raider, its threats ran empty.
Hypocrite.
Hancock knew that statement mirrored him. He needed to address his fraudulent control first before comparing a chair to something this world was guilty of messing up. The ghoul just felt his grief then. He regretted coming up here alone, though the only other choice would have been to bring Dogmeat as well. Sole's four-legged friend craved Sole more than anyone could ever imagine. The young pup hadn't been the alike since, and somehow that troubled Hancock more than any of this. He should have brought the dog, and not just for the animals’ sake.
This here, this was supposed to be simple.
This had been a mistake if that’s what he believed. Everything attached to Sole was far from that. Nah, Sole was a mystery.
His chest tightened then as if his rips had locked in on his troubled heart. He imagined it backed into a corner, wishing it would wake up soon.
Wouldn't that be the perfect cliché; waking up to find them alive and all of this right now to be irreverent? Bad story. But fuck, he could use a "bad" story right 'bout now.
Great. Now what, smartass?
Hancock immediately recognised Sole in his own thoughts. Like they were there in the corner of his eye; just out of reach. It resembled them well enough, and Hancock didn’t want to presume any different right now. So for a split second, it was like they had never left.
He stayed with it for as long as he could, but at some point, Hancock had to come back to reality. After his return, he moved to rest his arms over his face, leaning back, trying to help combat the horrid feeling that now plagued his brain. It didn’t, and someone such as himself should have probably know better than to think it would, and so the exhausted ghoul moved back, but this time glanced away from the direction of the grave to the lifeless forest around him. Somehow anticipating to see Sole approaching him from way down the bank — a lump manifested in his throat at the thought of seeing his friend again -- even more so when he realised that he thought it plausible.
You can fuck off, nerves. They ain’t ‘ere.
Even in his intoxicated state, the ghoul knew of his shortcomings; his pain, and what it could cause him if he strayed too far; for here was an excellent example of a fight Hancock couldn’t win without Sole, and yet here he was. Alone, fighting it.
“Ah, shit.” His mind finally fractured, choking on the ache it caused itself, struggling to get past the misery that had formed over the months since. And when he finally found the words, the whole thing was a mixture of every unwelcome feeling that came with grief. His words echoed him, told the world how fucking harsh it really was.
He snapped, found some passion. The words appeared like glass in his throat. But viewing himself as either brave or stupid, he struggled past it anyhow.
“Why’d you…” He hesitated. “—you always got to do this to me, huh?” He stood fast. Too fast; his heart racing. He almost fell carelessly into the dead leaves bellow. However, he was a master at whatever skill this was and composed himself as one. “You know how hard–har–it was to get my assss up here! There were so many damn tr-trees in the fuckii–way, and yet here I am… and--
The anger fed off his failure.
How the fuck was this fair?
And... And -- you’re nowhere to be found! How-how the fuck do you get out of this–I miss–” Fuck, this hurt. Try Again.
“I miss. Fuck, Sole! How do I d-do this?”
For the first time in his life, Hancock disliked the drinking. He mourned not being there! What fucking good did it do either of them now being there now! His friend was dead! And Hancock didn’t know where the fuck he was!
He collapsed to his knees. Shaking, gaging. Trying to get his breath back.
Try again. Come on.
It took Hancock everything he had, but somehow, he did it. He did it for his friend. Hancock composed himself the best he could, and he gave his friend whatever he had. Just like the day they died.
"I'ma... I'm sorry." He wept. He truly missed them, and it began to rip him apart inside.
He knew himself well enough not to speak anymore. For once he kept it shut and just accepted to the truth as if it was the only thing that could heal him anymore.
This is goodbye.

So I saw this neat thing flying around Tumblr of Lightwarden aus so with the help of my friend (he’s a wonderful photographer in game. If you want some good pictures too, just send me ask and I can let him know :3)
So! Here’s mine lol
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
“Mother, I'm so sorry. Please, I beg of you. Forgive me."
She didn't mean for it to happen. How could she stop it? She was a child frozen in fear. Placed into hiding by her dear mother for protection. The young girl peered through the bushes only to see her mother get cut down in front her. Her hand flew towards the bush and landed just outside of it. She was frozen with fear. She couldn't move. Her breathing grew sharp as she watched the enemies run off. Slowly, she reached out a hand and touched her mother's. Snow Tine.
Guilt plays a tune of melancholy in heart. Each death weighed a heavy toll on her heart. Her eyes would droop with tears of pity as she watched one ally after another get cut down in front of her. A hero? She's no hero. She cannot save the ones she loves.
And then it happened. Those thoughts continued to tear apart her mind and heart until she knew she was unstable. Slowly, she crawled her way out into The Empty. If she were to turn, it'd be best to stay out here. Surely, she would not have to cut down her friends if she was alone. So with the little strength she had left, she called upon Feo Ul. She begged the fairy to trap her in a large bubble, cocoon, a large shard, *anything* so that she may not escape. With the wall raised, she turned.
--> The fight. The Frozen Lament Extreme
~~> Snow Tine the Forgiven Guilt <~~
Class: Demented Summoner
Weapon: Book/Ice that forms around specific limbs for specific purposes
Her appearance matches that of the pictures (will post after), except her horns were moved from the side of her eyes to the bridge of her nose. The horns stretched out and covered her eyes. As a way to hide the tears she has constantly shed. The tux also has a much longer coattail that flows outward during the fight cause aESTHETIC.
The field is a lot like Shiva's but it's got more of an open, cave feel to it. There's no walls and it has a dark canyon that seems to surround the field.
+ When pulled, she immediately throws out a cone knock-back called "Icy Front". It's small but if people aren't paying attention at when the fight began, they can be pushed off just over the edge. There'll be enough time in the casting that the group can run far enough to her to avoid the knock-back. *or immune it* She'll announce the beginning of this move with the dialogue "Move! Get out or I'll kill you too!"
--> Players who get knocked off will not be immediately killed. Instead, they spawn with little health into this room. It looks like a thin icy pillar that extends upward, which is assumed to be the stage as it grows larger and larger as it ascends. In the middle is an orb. It will immediately target the players and begin to cast self destruct. Players must 'kill' the orb to keep a wipe from happening. (Killing it doesn't actually do so. It's just like... disabling it for a while so players can travel through the aether back to the top.) But for each player who fell, it gains a defense buff after it is killed. (For later or any other players that fall later as well)
+ The fight continues out per usual. After a few moments from the knockback, she casts an aoe called "Crying Blizzard".
+ The tank buster follows after is called "Cursed Judgement." Places a hefty vuln onto the tank (that doesn't last long at all but will kill if hit by even an auto attack). This forces a tank swap.
And that's where the fun begins >:)
+ "I've lost so many lights. So what's a few more to lose? I couldn't save them anyway." After she speaks this, she begins to cast a three ring aoe called "Lost Lights". It's got a warning maker *idk what they're called lol* that covers the whole field, leaving only two spots open. Two small rings in between the three. However, there is little reaction time before the players' screens go completely black. They have to memorize where the safe spots are at a glance and quickly remember where to move. The cast is quick too so you can't sit there for a moment to rattle your brain. If hit, it drops a 2 minute frostbite on each player and freezes them for 10 seconds.
+ There's another aoe before she turns to the off tank and casts the knockback towards wherever they're standing. Meaning the off tank should be either with the main tank or to the side where people aren't right after the aoe.
+ She then casts another "Lost Lights" but this time, it's different. Two Shards spawn out of any four patterns. (A cross, an x, a zigzag, or a big bulky line.) They do a complete line aoe across the field they've spawned at. There'll be only a couple of permanent safe spots for any of these patterns but that's up to you to find :)
+ She does another tankbuster, another aoe, before she cries. "Forget it! Forget it all! Please! Forgive me!" She raises her hand up and slaps the ground with a large icy wind knocking all players off the stage.
+ It's your pal orbie!
+ But with friends 😄 There are two ice golems that hit like trucks. So tanks have to take them and then take them to opposite sides of the field. *they get a tether when too close that makes them invincible*.
The orb has a sort of protect shield around it making it untargetable. The golems must be defeated and then the orb. It's a relatively quick add phase that should be pretty easy, but if there were at least 4 knocked of players beforehand, butts will be clenched killing the orb as it's casting self destruct.
+ Once the players return she screams once more. Her voice is shaking and it's obvious she's crying. "Forgive me. Forgive me. Forgive me! FORGIVE ME PLEASE!"
She flies up and summons her book in front of her. A shadow bahambo appears behind her and she begins to cast Teraflare. This is her ultimate 😄 AND the *real* add phase. Shadows of the scions appear on the stage. and each player will be given on of three 'buffs'
- Titan's Terror
Those marked with Titan's Terror must locate the scions with the buff Titan's Triumph and kill them. *players killing the wrong scion places an aoe vuln on everyone. 2 means the ultimate will wipe the party no matter what.*
- Garuda's Gout
Those marked with Garuda's Gout must locate the scions with the buff Garuda's Gift and kill them. However, only two scions are marked with this and it's always the twins. *For the full party only has 8 players.* The twins are easy to kill, but Alphinaud must die first or he'll keep healing the scions. *same with Urianger whether he's marked with titan or ifrit.
- Ifrit's Inability
Those marked with Ifrit's Inability must locate the scions with the buff Ifrit's Interest and kill them.
**The healers will always have the same buff Ifrit's Inability + 1 random dps. For the scions with the buff are not as strong.
Players can either split off and kill each scion individually or those with the same buffs gang up on them one by one.
Whatever way works best for the raid.
There is a time limit. If she hits 100 *she's been drawing in aether from the shadow scions*, she'll cast Teraflare and wipe the party.
If not, the party will receive the buff after all the scions are killed called "Phoniex's Phorgiveness" (xP)
Once she casts the flare, the arena changes. It's all musty yet bright. Large mirrors of the three primal egis are around the arena (just there for show).
The same moves appear. But Lost Light's is different. It has either two new patterns.
One combines the original two and another one has her hitbox as the only safe area. She also will combine other aoes with Lost Lights. Players can get marked with puddles. She could have a lookaway move that if hit, zombifies the player and can cause them to get hit by the lost lights *or damage the other player*
The Lost Light's at this point are instakills.
+ there's one new move now called "Mother's Remorse" One random player besides mt will be targeted with a HUGE aoe marker. They must take it as far away as possible. leaving only a small crescent open. You can eat the damage, but it places a heavy vuln and the aoe after will probably wipe the party. *Which means healers must shield and heal the targeted player for the aoe since they get an automatic vuln*
After a certain allotted time, she has a dialouge box appear. But it only says "*Cries*" Her loud sobs override the music as she begins to slow cast, "Hero's Execution". A big aoe with resemblance to tri-bind, each 'orb' placed in front of the three mirror primals.
At 10%, her dialogue changes. "Is this forgiveness? Please set me free!"
= Her death line, "We meet once again... mother..."
== She drops glamour weapons and a rare mount. Like a nightmare but for the dragons.

Alrighty, here’s all of my Deltarune theories
1. Deltarune’s central theme\moral question will be something a long the lines of “The free will to do bad things versus the safety of not having the bad choices”. To put it in videogame terms (as Undertale was more concerned with meta-commentary about videogames than real-world implications) “Should a game give you the option to do the evil thing even though you should totally do the good thing?”. The world of Deltarune is... safer than Undertale’s, at least that’s how it looks like. You literally can’t do a Genocide run, you *have* to end your adventure in the Dark World as a ‘Hero’, you have to be good - no matter what you want. It’s safer, since there’s no chance of a Genocide-Timeline, but it’s... oppresively suffocating when you know you have no other option - and kinda creepy to think about the fact that even if you WANT to be a horrible human being, everyone is ignorant to it and thinks you’re a great hero anyway. The world of Deltarune is a world where *nobody* has a choice; the player is railroaded, Kris is controlled against their will, Ralsei argues we *have* to be heroes because of a prophecy, the Darkners were created for a ‘purpose’ so their Free Will might be kinda fucked. The “Pacifist” Ending to the Dark World segment feels like a rushed parody of an Undertale Pacifist Run, complete with going back and talking with all the monsters you befriended. But it feels... deeply unsatisfying because this “Happy Ending” was not caused by your hard choices, but because you just... did as you’re told. Plus, Kris and friends have caused no REAL change in the Dark World the way Frisk changed everything to the Monsters living in the Underground. Sure, there’s a new ruler in Card Kingdom - but the Darkners are still living hidden from Lightners without much hope of having “purpose” again. Meanwhile, in the Light World, the Monsters have lives that... fairly happy and safe - but not quite as happy as they could be in the Undertale True Pacifist Ending. There’s less relationships, less self-improvement, less people-choosing-who-they-want-to-be. No free will robs you of satisfaction and reaching your fullest potential, but on the other hand... is it worth it if it means someone (*eyes the Player*) will use that free will to do evil? Yeah, the Light World is not quite as happy as the True Pacfist Ending - but it is not the only ending Undertale has.
2. There are two main antagonist-forces in the story: The Angel’s Paradise, that force the Delta Warriors are destined to banish and whatever you wanna call the Queen and the Knight and ect. The Angel’s Paradise is responsible for ridding this word of choices, probably for that sort of ‘greater good’ of preventing people from making bad choices (Although, to be thematic, the Angel’s Paradise is also robbed of choice in some way). The Knight and the Queen and company wish to bring choices INTO this world, but like... in a bad way. By destroying and remaking it or something. They would be a metaphor for a frustrated-denied-Genocide-player. But they would also be potrayed sympathetically somewhat because, as mentioned - not having choices sucks.
3. Since the Angel seems to be the center of the religion of Hometown, I think Deltarune will be upping the JPRGness game of Undertale by having Kris literally fight against the God-Figure of their parent’s religion to restore free will to the universe.
4. The Angel’s Religion in the Light World would be very open about the fact that it’s all about personal choices being less important than safety. That’s why Toriel is so religious, valuing safety over freedom was always kinda her thing.
5. I do, at the very least, believe Toby Fox’s claims this is not a direct sequal to Undertale and it doesn’t effect the ending of Undertale that you got in any way. I espacially buy that last part. It’s VERY important to Undertale’s themes that all endings are equally “canon” and whatever one is real depends on the player’s choices and nothing else. I don’t think Toby wants to make either True Pacifist or Genocide or Post-Genocide Pacifist into the “Real Ending”. That hardly means it has to be a totally unrelated AU, however. My money right now is that we’re looking at a stealth prequal. The World of Deltarune is one without choices, by banishing the “Angel’s Paradise” and\or letting the Queen and the Knight destroy and remake the world - they create the world of Undertale, one where there are choices. Although the characters are fearful about existing their safe, railroaded world, they are hopeful this new world would be even better with choices. Although the ending is the “same”, it’s context would be different depending on what you did in Undertale. If you ended with True Pacifist ending, you have proven the hopes the Deltarune people had for the new world correct. If you did a Genocide run, then the Deltarune people just look like dupes and overidealistic fools and you have accidently proven the Angel’s Paradise totally correct about how nobody can be trusted with choices and you’re no better than the Queen whooops.
6. Undertale tells us the original meaning of the Delta Rune symbol has been lost to time. I’m guessing that although the Underground interpeted as a prophecy of freedom - this was all just conjecture and coincidence on their part. The real meaning will be revealed in Delta Rune, it’s probably the Delta Warriors banishing the Angel’s Paradise (IE, the Undertale World’s creation myth, basically). Question is, why is one of the triangles upside down?
7. Not only do I think Sans might be originally from the Deltarune timeline (and aware of it), I think he might be a Darkner. Implications that Sans might not be originally from neither the Underground or the Surface, and that he might not be a proper Monster - are well-documented in the Undertale fandom (”You must really want to go home. Hey, I know the feeling, buddo.” “look. i gave up trying to go back a long time ago. and getting to the surface doesn't really appeal anymore, either.” The fact that he bleeds, can dodge attack and we don’t ACTUALLY see him turn to dust.) I just never took them super-seriously cause none of the purposed “solutions” made sense to me. Sans as a Darkner, though? Darkners are not originally from the Underground, Lancer’s dialouge implies they can bleed, and we don’t know what happens when *they* die. Not to mention, they can perfectly dodge attacks if they’re ‘On Guard’. ALSO, the most consistent difference between Monsters and Darkners? Monsters have Black-and-White dialouge icons, Darkners have them in full-color. But Sans (and Papyrus) have black-and-white faces. Darkners or Monsters, THEIR PROFILES WOULD LOOK THE SAME. That’s the sort of Hidden-in-Plain-Sight twist Toby Fox is into. Papyrus is almost certainly a Monster, he turns to dust when you kill him and everything. So that would mean Papyrus and Sans are not brothers by blood or something like that. Maybe Sans adopted that little Monster Skeleton Child as his “brother” to keep his Lightner disguise intact and ended up really honestly caring for the guy as his true bro.
8. Speaking of Papyrus? Something is very much up with him being one of the only Undertale Monsters you don’t get to meet. I support the speculation that he might have a radically different personality in that timeline, but also... Sans only mentions hanging out with his “Little Brother”, he never mentioned a name. Could it be that Sans’ brother is not Papyrus? At least not yet? I mean, we still don’t know where Gaster fits into this timeline.
9. I’m betting that Deltarune Asriel is... secretly a jerk. Mostly because: A. Ralsei is an obvious Flowey-Analogue and he’s as sweet as they come so what does that makes of the analoge for Flowey’s sweet alterego. B. Everyone is just so fucking praiseful of the guy some other shoe’s gotta drop C. Deltarune has some real ‘Monkey’s Paw’ vibes in regards to what people wanted out of Undertale 2 (Dark World = Just Undertale Again with Some Terms Switched and Upgraded Gameplay, Light World = Hanging Out with the Post-Pacifist Happy Ending Characters) it only make sense Toby Fox would want to fuck with our desire to see Asriel alive by making him such a radically different (and asshole) person. Kris’ gloomy and antisocial personality might be a result of being bullied by their big brother while nobody notices and assumes Asriel is Just Such a Nice Big Bro and Great and Hot. I’d be bitter too. They could have, like, a sequence that plays on our expecations of Asriel from Undertale. Where at first he comes in and seem as nice and sweet as that other Asriel and the player buys into it too (even though Kris was in a position where he would have recognized it as non-sincere) only for it to be NOOOPE he’s a jerk actually! Why did you fall for his trap Kris you’re the one person who knows how he REALLY is it’s almost like you’re mind-controlled or something? Thankfully, since Asriel was last in town, Kris aquired a new mean purple friend who likes eating faces and doesn’t like mean family members.
10. As for the OTHER Goatson, I don’t think Ralsei is like... secretly sinister or deciving Kris and Susie - but I also don’t think his worldview is as sweet and correct and right all the time. His issue is more... naivete, and being just a bit too comfortable with a lack of choice. (He honestly doesn’t seem to realize why Susie isn’t really into “Well, the prophecy says you’re a chosen one so you MUST be a hero and act nice and stuff). Although he means well, I think more will be called into question about his worldview other than the Pacifism. I am also... kinda expecting the twist that he might not be the Prince from the Dark. Again, not because he lied, but because he was... mistaken. (In the Legend of the Deltarune speia tone thing, the Monster and Human clearly look like Susie and Kris - but the Prince of the Dark only looks like Ralsei because he is wearing a cloak, which is not his default outfit. I feel like this might be relevant). He wanted it to be true cause then he’d get to go on an adventure and be a hero and have friends - so he just convinced himself it’s true. Would he be so okay with following prophecies when he finds out that, like, Lancer or whatever is who’s REALLY supposed to be a hero and friends with Susie and Kris?
11. Also that part about Darkners being made with a ‘purpose’, to ‘serve’ the Lightners... it REALLY creeps me out. Ralsei says Lancer feels good inside about being friends with Kris and Susie because he’s ‘fulfilling his purpose’... Is it possible that maybe all Darkners are just... a little too suggestible to friendship from Lightners? Like the friendship with Lancer seems pretty honest, but maybe all the ‘friendships’ we made with the Darkners we spared had less to do with us just being nice and more about us accidently overriding their free will??? Scary to think about, but it fits with the theme of Restrained for the Greater Good versus Free and Evil. It could also explain the King of Spades’ reaction to Lancer saying the Lightners are his friends, as far as the Spade King knew this was more Mind Control than actual friendship. Maybe the Spade King doesn’t think there’s any way to solve that dilemma but destory all the Lightners so that the Darkners won’t have to worry about that ‘purpose’ shit anymore? He thinks it might be the only way his people could have free will? (Also there’s a real theme here about rejecting railroading by becoming a villain; Spade King being a self-professed ‘Bad Guy’, Susie rejecting the role of the Hero to also become a Bad Guy, probably Kris at the end)
12. As for the ‘purpose’ for which Darkners were created. Well, to be meta, I think they were created to be NPCs for RPGames... sorta. I don’t think the game is gonna use the term outright, but they’ll word it like the Darkners were created to play villains and secondary roles in epic-fantasy-stories Lightners made happen inside their realm. That’s why the Dark World follows RPG Logic closer than the Underground (you can sell items in shops, for example), and why all the Darkners are themed after things like Chess and Checkers and Card Games and Plushies. They were made to be playthings, games.
I think that’s it for my predictions to what’s gonna happen next in Deltarune, stay tuned to literally none of them being true in any way.

Reading Log - January 2019
Tumblr media
A summary of all the light novel volumes I read this month - along with my thoughts on them. I bought all of these volumes from BookWalker. Most of these series will not be available in English but I’ll try to point it out when I know if one of this series has received an official translation.
Note that, obviously, the following text is just my own opinion so please respect that and if you see anything that I got completely wrong (i.e. I accidentally refer to a character with incorrect pronouns), let me know. I will avoid posting spoilers as much as possible but let me know if I accidentally slip up.
Gamers! 1 by Sekina Aoi (Light Novel):
It was a fairly enjoyable read for the most part but, by the time I had reached the second half, I had lost interest and just wanted it to end. The chapters felt so long and dull and I think shorter chapters would have worked better. The other thing that stuck out to me is that the art is very simplistic and sometimes did not match the text for the scene it was for. I didn’t feel like the art added anything to the volume though I suppose it would have been jarring without it, given the genre of the story. That being said, I liked the characters a lot, including the protagonist and I enjoyed it enough that I’ll probably check out the second volume in the future though I’ll probably watch the anime beforehand to make sure that the story doesn’t go in a direction I don’t like.
Saenai Heroine no Sodatekata 1 by Fumiaki Maruto (Light Novel):
After finishing the Koisuru Metronome spin-off manga last month (which I loved, btw), I finally had motivation to read the light novel. It is really good. The pacing is excellent, there are a lot of funny moments and I love Maruto’s writing style. I do think that this series really needs to give the reader more insight on Katou. I get that part of the charm of the first volume is reliant on Tomoya having no interest in Katou but I want to know about her family and friends (because she must have some that she hung out with before meeting Tomoya) and I want to know what she’s like with them. I watched the anime alongside reading this and I think the events flow smoother in that and there is a lot of really interestingly directed parts (I love the café scene in episode 2) but it loses a bit of funny dialogue which is a shame. I have volume 2 already but I’ll probably wait a bit to read it so that I don’t get burnt out on the series.
Monku no Tsukeyou ga Nai Love Comedy 3 by Daisuke Suzuki (Light Novel):
In my mind, this series has two main charm points: the fun dialogue and the relationship between its’ two leads and it’s the latter that is on full display in this volume. Outside of that, it’s a pretty unremarkable yet enjoyable volume from a pretty unremarkable yet enjoyable series. I have to say that the side story that came with the volume on BookWalker is adorable though. As an aside, I recommend this series for people who are learning Japanese. It’s pretty easy since most of it is just dialogue and there aren’t many places that can trip you up.
Otome Game no Hametsu Flag Shika Nai Akuyaku Reijou ni Tensei Shiteshimatta... 2 by Satoru Yamaguchi (light Novel):
This volume is just as entertaining and hilarious as the first but it also surprised me. While the first volume could’ve been described as ‘predictable yet fun’, this volume had quite a few events that I didn’t see coming and, more than that, it was interesting. When I got to the main chapter, I couldn’t stop reading. It was that good. Katarina continues to be an amazing protagonist and the rest of the characters are just as enjoyable. In particular, this volume introduces to new characters and I won’t talk much about the second because spoilers but I loved Maria and I ship her with Katarina so much. I will warn that this series suffers from originally being a web novel will little editing been done during the conversion to being a light novel series in that most of the chapters are  episodic so, when you get to the main chapter, it feels disconnected from the rest of the volume and is way longer than any of the other chapters.
J-Novel Club is currently releasing the volumes in English under the title of My Next Life as a Villainess: All Routes Lead to Doom! so please pick it up if the series interests you.
Otome Game no Hametsu Flag Shika Nai Akuyaku Reijou ni Tensei Shiteshimatta... 3 by Satoru Yamaguchi (light Novel):
Welp, I suppose it was about time that this series had a volume that I didn’t love. The first chapter was pretty good but there wasn’t a whole lot in the later chapters that I liked. The new characters introduced this volume were interesting enough but I’d have rather have spent time with the characters I already love. Plus, I would’ve been fine with this series ending in the previous volume though admittedly the series probably wouldn’t have been as popular if it had and I might not have read it in the first place. I’m not really a fan of romance series and I feel like this volume is trying to steer the series into becoming more of one and I hope that the following volumes bring back the things that make me enjoy this series and I love the cover for vol. 4 so I’m sure it will (Katarina, charging while Jeord and Sora are all ‘slow down, dumbass!’).
Thinking about, if Katarina ends up with anyone, I want it to be Maria. They definitely have the sweetest and cutest interactions but, if I’m being realistic because it almost impossible for this series to go the yuri route, I’d prefer Nicole over the other guys. He won me over in the first volume when he gave Katarina a necklace modelled after one that a character in a book had and he’s been consistently good since then. He really cares for Katarina and I think she’d be happiest with him. Keith and Alan are also good options but I don’t get the appeal of Jeord.
Monku no Tsukeyou ga Nai Love Comedy 4 by Daisuke Suzuki (light Novel):
Sekai doesn’t actually have a whole lot of scenes in this volume which made is boring since her relationship with Yuuki really is the stand-out of the series and Kurumi and Haruko are pretty dull. The last chapter was interesting though.
Saenai Heroine no Sodatekata 2 by Fumiaki Maruto (Light Novel):
This volume seemed to drag on longer than the first but I did really enjoy the climactic scenes with Utaha and I loved the short dialogue-only interaction between Katou and Eriri. There’s a lot that I want to say about this series but I’m waiting and hoping that the series will prove me wrong before I do so. For now, I’m just wanting for this series to show more interactions between the characters without Tomoya. I will say that I think the anime is slightly better than the light novel series so far. It has it’s problems, like it has a lot of times where a male gaze-y perspective is used and it’s unpleasant but I think it succeeds in the most important way: it makes me forget about Katou’s existence. It’s hard to make Katou forgettable in a dialouge-focused text-based series and the manga doesn’t even try to do it but the anime takes advantage of it’s format and successfully uses certain camera angles to make Katou less noticeable.
Monku no Tsukeyou ga Nai Love Comedy 5 by Daisuke Suzuki (light Novel)
Easily the most entertaining volume of the series so far, to the point where I wanted to immediately buy vol. 6 when I finished it (I didn’t because I like to wait for sales but the temptation was there). I can’t talk about this series a lot because the first volume has a twist that most readers won’t see coming so I don’t want to spoil it for them but I will say that I usually find the characters who aren’t Sekai or Yuuji to be boring but I actually liked them in this volume, probably because they interacted with Sekai while usually they just interact with Yuuji. I will also say that I think the structure of this series would have worked better in a eroge or galge. The structure actually reminds me of Asairo’s structure more than anything else and it kind of works in light novel format but it feels like it was meant for a route structure.
Saenai Heroine no Sodatekata 3 by Fumiaki Maruto (Light Novel):
My favorite thing about this volume is that Tomoya was never insulted or shamed for liking otome games. He also gets to cry a bit near the end of the volume and male protagonists showing emotions other than anger is always nice (note that the anime down-playes this and I’m super bitter about it. He hardly cries in the anime but in the light novel, he full on bawls to the point where he has trouble speaking) . Eriri got the bulk of development this time around and I think it was well done. I really liked the scene with her and Tomoya at the end. A new heroine, Izumi, is introduced in this volume and I think she has the potential to be an interesting character. She’s, unfortunately, used to generate boob physics in the anime and the manga (to be clear, the manga is much worse than the anime in this regard) and she’s a middle schooler so that’s… uncomfortable, to say the least. I hope she uses her earnings from Comiket to buy a decent bra... I didn’t care much for Iori in the volume but I thought he was hilarious in the anime adaptation and I kinda ship him with Tomoya tbh.

A View from Behind the Camera - GoT Episode 6 x 9 - Meeting on the Battlefield
Hi Jonsa fam! I’ve been uber busy as of late, working on a play and then taking a bit of vacation for myself, but I’m back! Didja miss me? Kidding. Anyway, It’s time to take a look at the Battle of The Bastards Episode from Season 6. This is going to take a series of posts to cover because there so much content with Jon and Sansa as well as other scenes that inform on their relationship.
Before I dig into the good stuff just a reminder, since it has been a hot second since my last post, that I look at the scenes/episodes from a directorial standpoint. I have been working in the entertainment industry for over 25 years. I am also a Jonsa shipper, mainly because of what I have observed in the episodes i.e. acting choices, direction, and cinematography choices. With that out of the way...here we go! Forewarning this is a long one.
What is interesting about this first scene between Jon, Sansa, and Ramsey is that music continues from the previous scene. One in which Dany has ordered the death of the Masters and has had her dragons burned the slavers’ navy to dust in the Bay of Dragons. The music is ominous and sets a great tone for the first camera shot we encounter. The scene starts with an establishing shot that pans up from the grass to follow the Bolton riders as they move across the field. We don’t see their faces as they are riding away from the camera. We know they are House Bolton because we can see their Flayed Man Sigil banners flapping in the wind as they ride. The shot pans up and out so we can see the entire battlefield - this is likely in part CGI, in part the real field. This shot gives the audience a sense of the scale of what is to come. Once the riders crest the hill we see another set of combatants on the opposite side. That’s our Winterfell crew.
Tumblr media
We have a hard cut that takes us to an establishing shot on the opposite side of the field. We see the Bolton war party riding over the same hill straight at us this time. The shot pans down and we see the Bolton WP framed by Jon and Sansa, who are seated on horseback side by side, again Sansa in the consort position. Jon’s head is turned toward her and not to the Bolton WP. We have the line “You don’t have to be here” What is interesting about this section are two things really. We don’t ever seen the Winterfell Crew - in this case Jon or Sansa’s face until her line. Also the Boltons COME to the Starks. This is not by accident. Sapochnik does this for a reason. He is giving the power to The Starks. If he wanted Ramsey to have the upper hand to the audience from the get go his direction would have been done the other way. This gives Jon and Sansa the upper hand by making Ramsay come to them. Next we cut to a two shot of Jon and Sansa, the first time we see their faces, and we get a pause and Sansa’s line “Yes I do”
Tumblr media
What I love about this small section is the subtly in both Kit and Sophie’s acting. The GA is focused on them seating side by side, ready to go into battle, but on closer inspection you can see fidgeting by both - beyond that of just trying to stay seated. hands clasped tightly to reigns. Chins lifted up and strong. Shoulders thrown back. Also Sophie doesn’t look at Kit. She stays focused on the off camera Ramsey as he ‘rides’ closer. Kit looks down and to the side when she speaks. He is playing the protective alpha who wants to shield her from this monster. It is safe to assume that at this point Jon knows everything - at least  most everything - Ramsey has done to Sansa. As a warrior, Jon understands why she HAS to be present for this parlay. The direction on this is just beautiful and heavily detailed.
We cut to a long shot followed by another long shot as the Bolton WP rides us. Then we get the opposing sides shot as Ramsey and a few of his ‘generals’ move to position to face off with Jon and his ‘generals’
Tumblr media
Cut to a close up of a smug Ramsey. Then one of Sansa who is in Lady of Winterfell mode as she stares down her abuser. Ramsey thinks he’s in control that’s why the writers make his first line of dialogue about and to Sansa. The direction to make him focus on Sansa first is done on purpose too. It is a choice to try and take power away from Jon. The next set of lines are about them surrendering and kneeling before him, also the underlining claim to Sansa as well as Winterfell. Ramsey NEVER actually acknowledges Jon by name or title until several lines of dialogue later and only after Jon doesn’t respond to his offer of a pardon. The camera stays on Ramsey until “betraying my house” and then we get a wide shot of the Winterfell WP. We see Davos framed between Jon and Sansa, Tormund to Jon’s left and Lyanna behind Davos. We also get a close up of Lyanna - who gives the best stink face I’ve seen in a long time. Cut back to Ramsey. Iwan is directed to use the word bastard as a taunt. He does this every time he uses it in any of the scene. We get a back and forth series of close up from Jon to Ramsey to Jon to Ramsey.
Now we come to one of the most iconic shots of the scene/episode. The one that is used in promos and whatnot. The close up shot of Jon and Sansa seated on horseback staring stoically forward.
Tumblr media
Shipping aside. This shot is what sets up Jon and Sansa officially as THE power couple of the North. This is what solidifies them as Ned and Cat 2.0. What you have here is the King and Queen of the North - crowned as such or not. Sapochnik is absolutely saying that with this shot. This shot will be repeated several times over the remainder of the scene.
We hold this angle a few seconds then we cut to a close up of Ramsey with SmallJon Umber in the favor on position. This happens on Jon’s “no need for a battle” Cut to an over the ‘shoulder’ shot, actually it’s a trolley shot over the heads of the Ramsey WP focused on the Winterfell RP as Jon continues with his dialogue. On Jon’s ‘only one of us’ line we cut to a close up of Ramsey, looking smug still. Iwan is really good at looking smug. Cut to Jon as he says ‘Let’s end this the old way. You against me’ Quick cut to Sansa. The direction to her is clearly she was not prepared for Jon to make this offer. She is clearly shocked.
Tumblr media
The GA might see this as Jon’s way of fighting for Winterfell but it’s so much more than that. He is fighting for Winterfell, Rickon, and Sansa. Sansa is the driving force behind this offer. Jon wants to make Ramsey hurt for what he did to Sansa. I’m not wearing shipping googles here, folks, the direction given to Sophie, Iwan, Liam and Kristofer all support this. Jon isn’t making this offer of hand to hand combat for Winterfell. He’s doing it for HER. Cut to a close up of Tormund and Davos eyeing Ramsey up. The direction I would have given both of them, both playing seasoned warriors who had seen what life brings on the field of battle numerous times, would have been to wait as see if Ramsey has honor and says yes.
Tumblr media
Cut from Tormund and Davos to a favor on of Sansa and Jon in a quick shot. Cut to a smirking Ramsey. He laughs off Jon’s offer. I think because he was directed to be afraid to face Jon in single combat. The laughter seems forced which leads me to this conclusion. We have an over the shoulder at Ramsey and his crew for several lines of dialogue as he shows the GA he doesn't have the balls to face Jon. There is a brief cut over the shoulder back to Jon and Sansa followed by a close up of Ramsey. The next section is a back and forth between Ramsey and Jon as Ramsey’s dialogue covers the size of the armies and what not. When we get a close up of Jon it comes with his line about “Will they want to fight for you when they find out you wouldn’t fight for them” Basically our boys are having a pissing contest and  Sapochnik directs it as such for this section. We get a nice series of close ups back and forth for a few seconds in silence between the two. Until Ramsey laughs again, also a clear acting choice to cover nervousness and fear at Jon. Make no mistake, Ramsey is scared of Jon.
Tumblr media
Now come the threats. We get an over the shoulder shot of Ramsey as he mentions Rickon. There is a quick cut from Ramsey to Jon and Sansa again but Sansa’s line actually starts before the camera shifts. Also this is the first time she has spoken since the Botlon WP came over the hill AND it’s the first time she has spoken to Ramsey. These next few shots are really gorgeous. We get a closeup of Ramsey and Iwan gives us a fantastic facial expressions. His attention is on Jon and in the close up we see his eyes shift to Sansa and he is surprised that she has spoken up.
Tumblr media
Next we cut to Sansa and Sophie gives us her ‘not backing down’ face.
Tumblr media
We get a two shot of Ramsey and SmallJon Umber. Ramsey gestures to SmallJon who reaches into the pack on the side of his horse. The camera shifts to that angle between Ramsey and SmallJon’s horses with Jon and Sansa framed in the background as he pulls Rickon’s direwolf’s head from the pack.
Tumblr media
We cut to an establishing wide shot of the two parties faced off and then to a close up of the wolf head on the ground. (Foreshadowing to the later extreme close up shot of Rickon dead on the battlefield) This is followed by a shot of Jon, head bowed his focus on the direworlf. This is followed by a shot of Sansa doing the same. Then Ramsey smirking...again. This is followed by a two shot of Jon and Sansa. Ramsey’s dialouge is heard from off camera and Sansa then cuts him off with “you’re going to die tomorrow, Lord Bolton.” A close up of a rather shocked Ramsey is followed with one a Sansa in Lady of Winterfell mode and her line “Sleep well” We watch her turn and ride off before another close up of Ramsey. He is smiling again. (Iwan is really a great actor and he plays Ramsey in so many layers)
Let’s talk about his character for a quick second so we can understand why he smiles so much at Sansa in this scene. His character is a true sadist. He gets sexually aroused when someone fights back. When Sansa stands up to him it literally turns him on because in his mind he thinks he will be able to punish her for it later. Hence all the acting choices Iwan gives in his performance in this scene. Jon he is scared of, Sansa he believes he still controls.
We get a long shot from which allows us to see Sansa ride away across the field. It’s a beautiful shot.  Sapochnik has painted a picture here.
Tumblr media
Next we get a close up of Ramsey but this one is shot from the lower flank of his horse. It skews the audience’s vision of him because of the extreme angle and truly highlights the ominous nature of this character and this scene.
Tumblr media
Next we move to a close up of Jon as we hear Ramsey talk about having Sansa back in his bed. Kit moves from annoyed to angry and ready to rip him to shreds at the thought in a matter of seconds.
Tumblr media
Next we have a serious of close up of Jon and his men to Ramsey to Tormund and Davos to Ramsey will Ramsey talks about his dogs feasting on them. The dialogue is interesting here as Ramsey says ‘you’re all fine looking men” Lyanna Mormont is in this party still. She didn’t ride off with Sansa. Either Ramsey doesn’t realize she is a girl, there is a continuity issue with the writing, or he simply chooses to ignore her. I go with the latter. Ramsey’s character has one use for women.
We cut to a close up of Jon on Ramsey’s line “In the morning then” which is hear off camera. We are focused on Jon’s reaction instead of a shot of Ramsey at this moment because Sapochnik wants the GA in Jon’s head for these few seconds. He wants us to see and feel what Jon is feeling at this very moment. He holds this shot for 3 seconds, which is a decent span of time for a close up and then we switch POV back to Ramsey for “bastard.” One final taunt. The camera stays with Ramsey as he turns and starts to ride off then we switch back again to Jon.  The close up of Jon lasts for 10 second, remember 10 seconds in movie time is a lifetime, and Sapochnik captures the interplay of emotions on Kit’s face in that span. He watches Ramsey leave and then we see him sigh and look down in contemplation. At the last moment he looks back up again with resolve.
Tumblr media
The final cut is of Ramsy and his WP riding back to Winterfell.
Tumblr media
Well there we have it. The first scene of the Battle of the Bastards! Next up I will being looking at the War Council and tent scene, a favorite among my Jonsa fam.
See you next time!

Warm-Up #3
My One True Guardian
This one was written using this prompt from @dialouge-prompts. It takes place in the Sequence of Regrettable Happenings universe, about five years before the events of the part of the daydream I’m focusing on writing. This is one of my favorite warm-ups I’ve ever done, and it got me thinking a lot more about the way I view Kane within the bounds of this universe.
This is the last one I’m gonna post for tonight, but I think I might start posting my warm-ups regularly if these are things people are interested in seeing!
Word count: 1912
@yuyi-yuyani @breakeven2007 @jade-island-lives @thespooniewrites it’s in a different universe, but it’s still Kane acting like a dad.
I don’t know how long I’ve been sitting here.
On the edge of a bed somewhere in the Baudelaire home, I stare at a vanity mirror on the other side of the room. An unrecognizable face gazes back at me with glazed eyes. The charred left side of the face, spreading past what the glass can see, turns my stomach.
Still, I stare.
It throbs. Pulsing from my scalp, to my neck, my back, the tips of my fingers, down my thighs, steady as a heartbeat. I don’t dare move, even as I meet the blank eyes of the stranger in the mirror.
After a while, someone knocks on the door, but I ignore them. It’s likely Beatrice with dinner. I’m far from hungry. Words that I don’t hear drift through the cracks and they’re gone.
I sigh and carefully lay back on the bed. I can’t hold back the garbled cries I desperately try to suppress as the fabric of the quilt presses against the blisters on my back.
Something else, beyond the pain, hits me and I screw my eyes shut. The negative of the house, the flames reaching to me, seems to burn my eyelids from the mere memory. It starts to fade again, and I try to relax. I’ve been hiding from everything since I got back into the city. I can’t focus on it now.
I hear shouting downstairs and my eyes snap open.
I struggle, for a moment, to force the words to make sense. It happens eventually.
“Your people didn’t do anything for them either!” a familiar voice accuses.
I sit up and immediately regret my haste as my heartbeat kickstarts. At the sound of his voice, I’m more alert than I’ve been in days. The voices, now quieter, move under my feet.
I stand, looking down at the floorboards. He knows I’m here, then? He knows I’m alive? The idea is annoying, and just that thought is wakes me up a little more. It’s more than I’ve felt in three days.
I look back to the mirror, now with critical eyes.
I grab a full glass of water from my bedside stand, cringing at the touch to my burned hands, and take a drink. The water hits my smoke-burned throat like acid, but I force it down as I cross to the vanity. I take a seat in front of it and dip a washcloth into the water.
It doesn’t do much for my dead eyes, the bags under them, or the twenty pounds I’ve lost in the past week and a half, but at least the soot’s gone. Now the burns seem brighter. I try to press the cloth against them, too, but my hands shake too much. I would just make it worse.
I drop the rag, finally giving in the to slicing nerves on fingers.
He won’t be happy—they’re getting swollen, much darker than they were before. They’re infected. I touch the edges of the wounds, guilt cutting just as deep as the pain. This is my fault.
I try to put it out of my mind. I brace myself and lift a brush to gently pull it through my tangled hair. Much of it is gone, ending in singed mats, even more pathetic after two days of hiding in this room.
Footsteps start up the stairs, and the argument continues.
“I don’t want you anywhere near our children,” Bertrand hisses. The familiar voice responds with a dry laugh.
“Neither do I. I’m just here for mine.”
I stop, half out of my chair, at that. I stare at the door. The steps stop just outside of the door. Easing myself upright, I cross to it.
“They won’t answer. I’ve been trying all day.” Beatrice is quiet. Her words stand in the air for a moment.
I listen to them, two sets of breathing, but I know there are three people out there. I rest my hand on the doorknob, gritting my teeth against the contact, and brace myself. I swallow down the last of my listlessness and open the door.
Kane stands on the other side, one hand poised to knock on the door. The Baudelaires mutter in surprise, but Kane simply watches me warily.
I turn and walk back into my room, my bare feet silent on the floorboards. The door closes, and I don’t look back. I don’t want to hear his lecture, not today.
“Has anyone looked at those yet?”
I shake my head, moving to cross my arms but deciding against it when my burns scream at me. I don’t hear him move, but suddenly his hand is on my right, burnless, shoulder. I don’t fight when he leads me back to the bed.
He surveys me for a moment.
“Christ,” he mutters, turning to the vanity. I see his brow furrow in the mirror. “Were you going to let yourself die?”
I shrug his hand away and avert my eyes. He doesn’t comment, just sets a bag on the desk. I don’t watch him rummage through it, instead studying the curtain over the window.
He sighs and I flick a brief glance at him.
“This is going to hurt,” he says, turning back with a tray of tools. Something about his tone sounds wrong. Kane isn’t supposed to be so nice. I frown and look away again.
He starts with my right hand, and I bite back a cry. It’s searing, blinding white behind my eyes, but I keep my eyes locked on the unraveling fabric in the middle of the red curtains.
Slowly, excruciatingly, he debrides the palm of my hand. He leaves bandages and dull throbbing in his wake, but I know that this is just the beginning of the pain. It will take a while for these burns to heal. I should be in a hospital, but I can’t risk that.
When he finishes with my hand, I’m breathing hard, my brow covered in sweat. He then takes the time to inspect the minor burns snaking up my right arm. I expect him to move on, and I brace myself for the slicing pain that doesn’t come.
I finally look at him to see his unimpressed gaze. He leans back in the chair from the vanity. Waiting. I look away after a mere instant, but he latches onto my acknowledgement.
“When did you last eat?”
I shrug.
“Sleep?”
I shrug again.
“Shower?”
I look at him and direct every ounce of the anger I’ve felt in the past two weeks at him. Who is he to treat me like a misbehaving child? If he’s here, that means he knows exactly how bad things have been and he’s just showing up now.
He isn’t impressed.
“You need to take care of yourself.”
I don’t answer, so he scoots closer and starts on my left hand. This one’s worse. I grit my teeth and return my gaze to the covered window, but I don’t count on him continuing his ‘words of wisdom.’
“You’re lucky that you are who you are,” he says. “You’ll get a scar, probably, but that’s about it.”
A particularly sharp twinge of pain cuts the leash I have on my tongue.
“You think I’m worried about getting a scar?” I say, my voice flatter than I would have expected. My throat burns and I swallow to ease it.
I look to him, surprised to find a frown on his face as he refocuses on my forearm.
“No, of course not,” he answers mildly, pressing a line of medical tape around a bandage. We sit in silence, and he stands. “Look, I’m not here to lecture you. I just need to know that you’re okay.”
“Well, I’m fine.” I’m defensive and I know it, but I glower at him stubbornly. An idea starts drifting around in my head. I can’t identify it so I push it away.
“You obviously aren’t,” he says, but doesn’t push it further. He goes back to the bag with the tray and pulls more alcohol and bandages out. He looks up at me in the mirror, hands still in the bag. “I was going to check on you at the house, but then…”
“Olaf burned it down.”
The idea from before flashes in my eyes again, but I still can’t quite grasp it.
He nods slowly, his brow furrowed. “That’s what the Baudelaires said. Why didn’t you come to me? Or K?”
I shrug. “You know how the clans are. How fast would they have dragged me back in?”
He turns back to me, feigning deafness, the tray full, and comes back to sit. He pauses, a pair of scissors poised near the bottom of my tattered top.
“If I’d known it was this bad, I would have been there a week ago.”
Slowly, he debrides my burns. He extracts the events of the past few weeks from me in that time, his eyes growing harder the more I tell him. He tells me I need an actual medic to look at my burns later, if not a real doctor, without much comment otherwise.
As I speak, the idea comes back and solidifies in my head. When he’s done, I’m sure that it’s what I need to do.
“Do you have any under the table work I can do?” I ask as he finally starts dumping the refuse from the process into the bag. He chokes a little and turns back to me, surprised.
“I thought you were done with that life?”
“I need to survive somehow,” I say, nervously glancing away. “This is the only life I know. It’s what I’m good at.”
He watches me intently, and I try to plead with only my eyes. After a moment, he shakes his head. He’s smiling, though, so I know I’ve won.
“You need to see a doctor—a therapist or something—and you need to tell me if it gets this bad again.”
I perk up, then droop slightly. “I can’t—”
“I’ll find someone to see you,” he says dismissively, his gaze boring into me. “You have to swear that you’ll keep me updated.”
I nod and stand, my entire body throbbing. “Get me a job and I’ll see a doctor.”
He hesitates, seeming unsure.
“Don’t pretend that everything’s fine, Jess,” he says gently. “You have to take time to let the pain heal.”
I shoot him an irritable look and head for the door. “Time is a luxury I don’t have at the moment. Now, are you coming or not?”
“Hang on, idiot.”
I turn back just in time to catch a bundle of fabric. I look down to see a fresh set of clothes. I glance further down, then to the bed at the pile of burned clothing he had to cut me out of. Right.
Kane slings his bag over his shoulder, his mouth a bitter line. “I can’t believe the Baudelaires let you sit here for two days. Get changed. I need to have a word with them.”
He starts toward me, and I step aside from the door to let him pass. He stops, a hand on the doorknob, and turns his eyes on me.
“I’m okay,” I say, thinking of how he must see me. Covered in bandages, a trainwreck. Begging for work when I’m possibly suicidal.
“Don’t think I believe that for a second.” He lifts a hand and rests it on my head. He moves, as if to ruffle my hair, but doesn’t actually do it. “First stop’ll be the hospital. I’ve got a contact that should be discreet.”

Boss Battle: VS. Dudeblade
http://dudeblade.tumblr.com/post/160307778687/in-response-to-everything-you-said-here-i-decided
Okay Dudeblade, you want a battle? I’ll give you a battle.
A Boss Battle of sorts.
In response to everything you said here, I decided to take a page out of your book, and deconstruct everything that you wrote. Because, you know, it’s not like you did the same to me on multiple occasions.
So you’ve learned how to debate: Glad it took you several months to do so. Now you’re facing a veteran debater with a shit ton more experience at this than you do. Come back in about ten years.
Oh, and just so that you know that I’m calling you out personally, I’m using your full username. Knight-of-Balance-13.
This is dudeblade, from the rwde tag. And I, I am just a man, trying to enjoy the show that we all love
Then why have you not posted a single good thing about the show in over a year and even then you have gone back on some of your stances about teh show since then and haven’t gone back on any of your negative posts. And you have attacked the writers and numerous characters on the show multiple times. Your actions speak louder than words.
Now isn’t this just a lovely piece of work? It looks like that there was a whole lot of thought put into this one. I wonder what would happen, if I were to look at every single detail, and deconstruct it. To just, distort it and force my opinions here. Like how you do with most of mine.
And right away we have a problem: the way he structures his critique. He puts up a slab of text on screen and puts up a slab below it, a mistake I made for so long. You can go sentence by sentence and dismantle it that way, thus giving you more breathing room and a quicker pace to it.
On to the content itself, I haven’t outright shown malice towards a post and when I do I usually label it as a “potshot”. as I have done so before in the past. While it is true that I have been hostile towards posts, it has never gotten to the point of sadism as you are implying with both your tone and language. SO right off the bat you are presenting yourself as more hostile than I am 90% of the time and this is on the very first post of your very first rebuttal. Not a good sign.
Also: You say deconstruction which implies a professional tone (which is what I usually do) but then you’re lanuage shows you are going to be anything but. Seriously man, if you are trying to attack me, be outright with it. It just makes you look more honest in the end.
For starters, you also can’t be objective if you love the show as well. It’s a two-way street. This is something that is called a catch-22, a situation where there is no reasonable solution to the problem at hand, or where the primary solution, also contradicts the parameters. You want to know why people are so harsh? - It’s because the writers have no intent on listening. How would you feel if every time you tried to offer advice, it was ignored, and the person(s) you were giving it to kept making the same mistakes over and over again? - I’m pretty sure you’d be upset.
However in one of your posts and in numerous reblogs you have stated that just because you are critical of RWBY doesn’t mean you can’t be critical of it so your own words contradict what you say here for no other apparent reason that that argument now applies to me then.
And I have said in the past that you can be critical of something and still like it, it’s your INTENT that judges what is criticism. If your intent is to harm the creators then that isn’t criticism, it’s just hate. As I said in the quote you posted. Your tone and wording have shown that they are closer to hate than criticism (some going as fair to label themselves as hate) and thus what criticism you might have had fails on death ears because you are using the tone, wording and intent of a hater.
Not to mention the fact that you are the one who put the parameters there in the first place: the only evidence people have of Miles rejecting criticism is a meme from Rooster’s Twitter so it can’t be confirmed that was Miles and a link to a guy trying to shut up criticism and Miles calling him out so that’s actually a contradiction. You believe this is grounds for personal attacks despite the fact that the grounds for harsh criticism alone isn’t even met here. This shows you just want to hate.
How about this: Instead of going after the symptoms, you go after the cause. Reducing a fever isn’t going to magically cure the flu. But getting medicine will help cure the flu. I use this analogy, because it’s the best one that there is. But if you want to talk about blowing up information, you should take a look in the mirror. Because you seem to blow up every time someone wants Yang to express what happened.
... Those two definitions of blowing up don’t collorlate. One implies exaggeration but the other implies excessive amount of emotion. While one does cause the other, you didn’t link them. Might want to edit that.
And the only thing of proof you have to prove that is a piece of sarcasm and if that’s being treated as proof then I can point out that you told the writer’s that they were fired from breathing and thus telling them they should die. No matter what way you go with this Dudeblade, you lose.
And in a way, I am trying to cure the cause: the cause being that people are trying to pass off hate as criticism and I am here to criticize and have the actually criticize or shut up and let other people do it. So I still fit your bill.
You always claim that Yang expressing herself undermines the trauma Tai went through. When exactly did Tai get his arm cut off in a terrorist attack when he tried to save his partner? When was Tai’s goals of becoming a huntsman demolished because a terrorist group attacked the school? When did Tai lose his mother at a young age? - The answer is “Nobody knows.” (At least for that last one. The other two have the straightforward answer of “never.”) So far, I have only seen you undermine what Yang has gone through to make Tai’s life look worse in comparison. - Hypocrite, much?
So we’re doing this huh? Okay then: When did Yang ever lose a lover? When did Yang ever lose nearly lose a child? When did her child jump off into the great unknown with only a note? When did Yang have to protect Taiyang from Grimm while she’s depressed? When did Yang ever reach out to Taiyang but he pushed her away? That’s 5 questions that answer never to your two and each one can be answer as “Twice” at the very leats so that actually 10 -2. And that’s not even going into how Taiyang basically has a worse version of the other traumatic events and we don’t even know his backstory. So how about you sit doiwn and take a note from teh White Trailer, something I have been trying to get across showing how ridiculous it is to deem a person’s sorrow by using another (Everyone is entitled to their own sorrow.)
Also, note how he calls Adam a terrorist. This is going to boomerang on him later.
This is possibly the only part where I can at least, partially agree with you. There is a degree of arrogance from both sides. While it’s spread out in the rwde category; the anti-rwde, has it much bigger, but in fewer people. Both sides are to blame for this, and it’s not fair of you to put the blame solely on the rwde tag.
considering the fact that we haven’t suicide baited people, told people to go die, called people pedophiles, called people abusers, slander people, warp facts, sexism, racism and so much more, if we seem arrogant to you that’s probably an intense disdain for RWDE.
Also,”Abject failure”? That guy, (rerwby) is doing their best to fix some plot holes that were left from the writers neglecting to think ahead. Like how when (in canon) Jaune claimed to be from a family of hunters, it made very little sense that he hadn’t unlocked his aura. But in the re-write, he says that “those huntsman genes must have skipped me.” - Something that makes infinitely more sense from a story-telling perspective. Not to mention that I don’t think that word means what you think it means. I read it to day, and found it enjoyable. I’ve read worse stories, and the Re:RWBY story is not the absolute worst story ever. It’s doing its best to address plot holes, and made references to LGBT+ Representation in under three chapters, when the actual show hasn’t made a reference in over FOUR VOLUMES. Though, I’m willing to bet that you think he shoehorned that it for “moar views.” No, B1umenkranz actually made a positive reference to the LGBT+ community. Contrast actual canon, which has promised representation over and over again, but has yet to reveal who is part of the community at best, and is completely baiting at worst.
Yes because that kind of product’s first and fore most priority is that they need to be entertaining. And between the numerous failed attempts at visual humor, interjected dialouge, switched around lines and lack of description, it is a chore to sit through a single reading of Re:RWBY whereas I would gladly sit through Volume 1 of RWBY again.
Also, a lot of what you say here doesn’t work. The huntsman genes don’t work because genetics wasn’t Jaune’s problem, it was training. It created a plot hole as to why Weiss would think a nest is a temple, why Jaune tried getting into Beacon if something he could not control ect. And just because you have LGBT in it doesn’t eman it’s good: Mod Regalia a bisexual talked about this before (https://team-crtq.tumblr.com/post/160160464449/rwby-and-ships) and these exact problems show up: Yang and Blake have tacked on Chemistry when they have a netural at best relationship and Ruby’s sexual observation of Blake makes no sense considering she is stated to be uninterested at sex right now. Combine this with awkward dialogue, OOC moments out of the ass, unnecessary dialouge changes that ruin the jokes, a lack of detail, more plotholes, tacked on LGBT mentions and inconsistent narrative style and you have an inferior product.
Please refer to these three posts on why people are upset about the lack of LGBT+ representation. Now get off your high-horse. Damn, and here I thought that someone in the crtq tag would call you out on that one.
I match and raise your tag with several LGBT members who are just as sick of this as I am: @phoenix-theurge @tumblezwei @ula-star @mageknight14 @rainbowloliofjustice @takashi0. You, as a straight person, cannot claim to speak for these people who are closer to the subject and disagree with you.
Both sides are using Monty’s name in vain. Not just rwde. You have people who are claiming that “The writers are shitting on Monty’s dream” and then you have guys who basically say “You are hating on Monty’s legacy.” - Both are petty, and even I have a major beef with it. But don’t act as if Monty’s death makes his show safe from criticism. If that were true, then people would go apeshit whenever someone criticized a Disney movie. - Point is, is that both sides are guilty of doing this, and considering you got mad and upset that someone made a rwde meme post on the anniversary of Monty’s death, you aren’t free from blame on this part either.
In the main RWBY tag where every RWBY fan can see it, which is what I did. You also only have one example for me and two examples against you: It seems more like I’m an isolated incident than anything so that point does not stand.
Re:RWBY is structured like a book. They aren’t structuring it like a show. Books are different than shows, movies, games, etc. Do you really think that the Harry Potter films follow the books to the exact letter? - I don’t think so. So, maybe you should stop bitching, and start looking onto details. re:Rwby made their points clear, and you claim that they’re arrogant? - They only said that he thought his ideas were better. Gee, for a person who claims that the rwde tag takes things out of context, you sure seem to do that a lot. Plus, if you read his tags, you’ll see that he was very polite compared to your “Everything is wrong, and you should feel bad for writing this wrong” attitude that you seemed to project through your comment.
And RWBy itself is structured as a book and that is why I judge it so: It’s lack of detail and terrible story structure makes it a chore to sit through because the gags in RWBY use both visual and vocal aspects and both are botched by the writer who claims to be a better writer than Miles. He outright said that he could do a better job than Miles and failed to do so and so by your standards of attacking Miles over Soul Eater and LOK, I am still right. In fact, considering Miles never said he was better and Re;RWBY did, I would be more right by your standards than you all are. And then he blocked me and continues to mock me, so what?
Again, refer to the posts that I linked to earlier about baiting. I’m not going through the effort of re-linking them again. But I have a new one right here.
Said by a guy who has a noted hatred of Miles. By your own logic, all that does is discredit you.
Just because Yang was in a rut, doesn’t mean that it wasn’t ablest. Tai made it clear that Yang wasn’t worth his time unless she had two arms, and that is pretty much ablest. Also, if what you said was true about lines and screentime, then that meant that Penny was there for Ruby’s development. Pyrrha was there for Jaune, and Adam was there just to make Blake the definitive “good guy.“ Another reason why people are critical of Jaune is because he was the first character to get a two-parter arc to himself. It wasn’t Ruby and Weiss (who had their problems resolved by the end of the episode) it was Jaune. And considering that no other character that one of the writers voice has gotten the same treatment, it leads to the conspiracy theories that Miles gives more development to Jaune because of his ego. Also, to quote Mr. Enter, “Just because you bring one character down, doesn’t mean the other character is brought back up.” It doesn’t work like that. Making Jaune look weak in comparison to Ruby doesn’t automatically make Ruby a better character, it just makes Jaune look weak.
- In fact, Ruby’s character remains static. But here’s another thing: If Jaune really is there to make Ruby look good, then why is he the strategist? - If this were the case, as you so claim, then Jaune’s strategies would have been thrown out for Ruby’s much better worded, and thought-out tactics. In addition, he’s the ONLY one mourning Pyrrha. Pyrrha is apparently non-existent for the other characters. Pyrrha was put in a Schrodinger’s Cat situation when it came to the reason for her abrupt death. She was either killed to further everyone’s character, or she was killed to further Jaune’s character and his alone. Since no character brings her up aside from Jaune (and Qrow that one time), it comes off as if Pyrrha was killed solely for Jaune
The rut thing was about depression, not the disabled thing. Right off the bat, you’re moving the goalposts. And even so, I have shown that disabled people DO think it was a good portrayal as seen in the Meta folder on the awesome tag of RWBY’s Tv Tropes page. And even then, you have shown an intense and irrational hatred for Taiyang so you’re not allowed to talk. Just as well, you aren’t allowed to talk about Jaune because you have shown personal bias against him so that doesn’t work either. In fact, you’re biased against most male characters as you have admitted before so in reality, most of this is pointless.
And yeah, some characters are like that. Adam isn’t because he’s more used to show what happens when you fight an opponent long enough: you start acting like them. But Penny and Pyrrha? Yeah, that’s true. That’s also not a bad thing: Most mentor characters are this way and Pyrrha actually got an arc outside of Jaune. Hell, the most well known character from Gurren Lagann is Kamina, a mentor character with no purpose or menaingful character traits that aren’t “Make Simon Better.” And Gurren Lagann is one of the highest regarded anime of all time as well as a stated influence on RWBY so my comparison has some weight.
And that only works if Ruby herself is weak, she’s not. Ruy has very strong characterization in that she is an innocent, naive but determined and altrustic girl with a love of weapons and zero social skllls. And contrary to what you say, her character has developed. She has gone from denying that bad things happen in the world to accepting that they happen but still struggling to amke things better because its the bright thing to do. And this coincides with Jaune’s character as a foil to Ruby: he’s the tactician to her stradgest, she inspires people through actions while he does so through words,  she’s talent but naive whereas Jaune doesn’t have talent but is aware, Jaune gets more cynical while Ruby becomes more optimistic.
PS: I guess actions don’t speak at all huh? Ruby being sad at the mention of Pyrrha holds no weight to you huh? Good to know you have such a narrow view of things. No, you just put things in a damned if they do, damned if they don’t situation.
The only time I have ever heard of the opposite of Queerbaiting (Which Blizzard Entertainment invented, and was called Straightbaiting), was Tracer from Overwatch. Proof: https://ravenclaw-rebel3390.tumblr.com/post/155915548399/i-guess-overwatch-invented-straight-baiting
Okay and i be you rolled your ewyes at that. Now imagine how the five people I mentioned feel.
RWBY was marketed as a show about strong female protagonists. People didn’t sign on to watch Jaune (and only Jaune) cry about Pyrrha. I, myself am a fan of Ren. Jaune has had many lines over the course of the series, whereas characters like Ren, Sun, and Neptune have had very little. Also, Penny hardly had any screentime, and she was supposed to be one of Ruby’s close friends.
Once again, glad to know you have such a narrow view of things that Ruby being emotionally sad doesn’t work unless she says it.
And Jaune is the Deturagonist, so what? that’s like complaining that Gohan got too many lines in Dragon Ball Z.
Also: man Pain AKA a man can’t feel emotion over a woman. Nice to see such hypocrisy.
Right. Pyrrha totally deserves that label. After all, it’s not like she asked Jaune out multiple times, regularly ignored is rejections, and only backed off when she found out that he liked someone else and that affection was reciprocated… Oh wait, that happened… But it was Jaune doing it. Also, you were the one who undermined Yang’s trauma by claiming that she doesn’t know what it feels like to have people close to you abandon/die on her, when that’s been most of her life. Tai had absolutely ZERO joking tone when he said his insensitive comment, and you never seem to bring up the fact that Port and Oobleck were shocked by his comment. Why would they be shocked if this is supposed to be normal? It doesn’t seem logical to me.
Because you have a bias against male characters, we’ve been over this. You have outright stated it before and shown it numerous times. BGuit I’ll humor you:
Pyrrha also made advances at Jaune, just not directly. Nurmous Times as well. She ignored his attention to Weiss or ignored his lack of attention and only abcked off when Jaune was stated to like Weiss outright. So yeah, she does get that label if Jaune does. It’s called equality, something you seem foreign to.
Zero joking tone huh? Then I guess Church never joked once in the entirety of Red Vs. Blue because the tones were EXACTKY the same. Glad to see you’re blinder to sarcasm than an aspie.
And I guess if someone were to see the Reds And Blue or Rooster Teeth themselves,m they despise each other right? Or oif yous aw @ula-star‘s family you’d say that they are abusive too huih? Glad to see the world only works one way. (sarcasm)
Adam is an asshole. But Y’know what? - Weiss was the one who called “Controversial Faunus Labor” a “morally grey area.” Also, Adam is a minority, broken by the discrimination that he has faced. I don’t approve of his actions, not by a long shot. But the White Fang seem to be emulating the rwde tag (or maybe vice-versa), in which that side was sick and tired of being ignored when they were being peaceful, so they resort to brutal tactics. Weiss is also a racist heiress who somehow got over her racism overnight. From a storytelling standpoint, Adam deserves more sympathy than Cinder at this point. Unless both of them get an expanded backstory, they have both done some pretty terrible things, but Adam was forced to work for Cinder because she had power, and he didn’t. People tend to root for the underdog, especially if that underdog has been discriminated against. Adam’s story is more relatable to people because he’s a person who was sick and tired of peaceful protest being ineffective.
Let’s go through this, shall we?
1. Adam is also racist and to a degree that overshadows Weiss and Cardin (Name one time they6 demanded genocide. I can with Adam.)
2. Mind linking to that?
3. You comparing the rwde tag to the White Fang and called their leader a terorist shows that you pretty much know you’re trying to use fear to control people and thus cannot be listen to. Thanks for the confirmation.
4. And that’;s why Weiss was still weary around Sun because she wasn’t being racist to him. Also, she got over her racism, Adam hasn’t.
5. And no one forced Adam to try and blow up the train in the Black Trailer, abuse Blake, chop Yang’s arm off or call for genoicde either. Man, this is like a textbook example of Draco In Leather Pants. And weiss’ is a form of Ron The Death Eater as well: Big surprise.
Jaune has taken the protagonist role. He’s the only one mourning Pyrrha, and as that line chart stated, had Ruby not had that speech at the end, she would have had less lines than Jaune. Not to mention that we (the audience) already knew why Ruby was doing this. By having her do that speech, she’s simply stating the obvious. No audience member asked “Why is Ruby doing this?” - Because we already know. Ruby hardly did anything. It was primarily Jaune.
If Jaune is the protagonist, why did he immediately default to giving up his angst and sorrow to Ruby the minute she shows sorrow? Why would the entire Volume be using him to prop Ruby up? Why would the emotional scenes with him either use Ruby as the start and finish?
And the part about the lines thing doesn’t work because, again, 75% of Jaune’s lines go to Ruby because they were used to develop here.
And if she is staing the obvious there then you missed the obvious point about her development, the theme of the Volume and the emotional wrap up,.Also shows that no matter what, Ruby will always be secondary in your eyes to Jaune even when she isn’t/. Nice to see you again Sexism.
- Jaune gets hit. Jaune gets an upgrade. Jaune is telling the team what to do. Jaune is sick of losing people (which would have carried more weight if Ren were the one to have said it). Jaune is sad that Pyrrha died (Again, he’s the only one to be actively mourning her). Jaune catches Tyrian’s eye. Jaune calls out Qrow. Jaune saves Qrow. Jaune shows off his weapon’s new mode.
So is Ruby, so is Ruby and Jaune’s upgrade only made him get bitchslapped. Jaune can’t do anything else. Audienbce surrogate. Ruby is also saidf and he immediately stops being sad about Pyrrha to allow her to be. Tyrian immediately dismisses that and focuses on Ruby. In character for him, out of character for Ruby. So did Ruby.
And Ruby also had the focus of Salem and Cinder, 75% of Jaune’s lines where made to build her up, She is the fcous of the plotline and not Jaune, 2 out of the three scenes Jaune is notable in is centered around Runby, Ruby gets the final words, Rubty is the fcous of Yang’s plotline as well, Ruby does far better in combat that Jaune, Ruby is the reason WHY Qrow is there, Ruby is the reason WHY Qrow gets injured, Qrow is Ruby’s uncle and Jaune has no family in the story, Ruby is the butt of one joke whereas Jaune is the butt of three in the first episode alone. Yeah, doesn’t work/
Ruby showed off a neat aspect of her semblance in the first episode of the volume, and then it was never seen again. Ren comes across his ruined village, and we get only one flashback to it. Nora hardly does anything other than provide some relief, and acts as a means to keep Ren calm, and Qrow only gives us exposition. Then there’s the fact that Ruby only used her semblance in the finale fight a total of one time, whereas if that Grimm was as threatening as it was hyped up to be, then she should have been using it to tie the thing’s arms around a tree or something. - But nope, gotta have that ancient Grimm get killed by four newbies when other, more experienced fighters all fell to it. This just makes any hunter that’s not part of the main cast look pathetic in comparison.
Except for the numerous times she files into the air.
Ren and Nora got foreshadowing in Episode 2, 5, 6, and 9.
And semblances use up Aura therefore if she did one hit would break her aura as it did with Ren, The Nucklevee has more control over the arms than Ruby and all Jaune’s weapon did was get him bitchslapped.
Also: Name one Hunstamn in Ren’s village or any that fought the Nucklevee before the heroes. ot Ren’s dad, weapon isn’t correct. Not Xion, The bandoits took care of them and other Grimm weakened them down/ No? Can’t? Then I guess you have no argumnet.
Misuse in animation is a sin of itself. It’s a sad day when Monty (God rest his soul) forgets that Rapiers aren’t used in that fashion. It’s a poor decision that needs to end, and if RW/BY can’t be the trend setter and be the first time it gets used correctly, then why should it be exempt? - The lead animator was someone who studied fencing, this shouldn’t have been a thing in the first place. RWB/Y shouldn’t be a trend follower, it should be a trend setter.
Most of the Raiper usage cited in RWBy was from The White Trailer, Volume 1 and Volume 2. AKA when Monty was the animator. And even then, many trend setters WERE trend followers, they just diverged. NGE was a normal Mecha show for 16 episodes and yet it set the ENTIRETY of the deconstructions in anime after 1995. You fail using yet ANOTHER inspiration to RWBY.
The mention of trains is only mentioned in the exposition-filled bore-fest that is World of Remanent. If people need exposition about that from a filler spot that disrupts the action and flow of the show, then why shouldn’t they repeat what happened? - After all, they did it with the Schnee Heir twist. They revealed that Jacques wasn’t a real Schnee in the WoR, and then, in the following episode, they repeat it. Despite the fact that the twist was ruined by the WoR, they still thought it to be a good enough of a twist to repeat in the story proper. If they can do that, why can’t they repeat the train thing?
“Borefest”
“Likes on WOR are the sma eif jnot higher than normal RWBY”
Yeah, those don’t work.
Because it’s a part of the show? Okay then, whenever exposition happens in a show, you MUST skip over it because all it is is an inclusive version of WOR. What’s that? You won’t? Then no bitching about WOR.
- Also, Yang got used to the prosthetic in only a few weeks. Even FMA makes it a point to mention that their character getting used to their prosthetic in under a year is unusual. And if you mean to tell me that Remanent has the technology to make a prosthetic that can be gotten used to in under a few weeks, then why are they so stupid to make it so that you need four active towers to allow for cross-continental communication? - It simply doesn’t make sense. - Also, most PTSD victims take YEARS to recover (if they do at all). Yang getting better overnight (Putting on the prosthetic, and being able to use it like it was her original arm overnight) is insensitive to actual PTSD victims who lost a limb in a war, terrorist attack, or a freak accident.
And she had six months beforehand. That also means you wnat Yang to be out of the show for a year: Good to know.
Okay then: Do you want me o watch Legend of Korra and go through ever single plot hole in that show? Because considering last Airbender had quite a few, I’m sure I’ll be able to match you blow for blow. If not Korra then..basically any show ever? Or will you keep your standards.the same watching RWBY as you do everyone else and Not be a nitpicky asshole?
I believe that this is what you would call “a critique.” After all, I provided solid evidence as to why your reasoning is flawed, much like how you constantly did to me. And if this upsets you, then perhaps you could do us all a favor and keep it to yourself. And how about you don’t go whining to the rest of crtq that someone was being mean to you?
No, because you shown numerous times t5hroughout this study taht you have quite a few biases that you refuse to put aside as well as t5he fact that you amde it clear that you were attacking me rather critique, summerized by how you expect me to hold up to a standard that you yourself have rejected numerous times and didn’t follow once in this section. Meanwhile, I have.
And I wouldn’t do that to the crtq tag, I have higher standards than that. Nope, i’ll just my comrades talk you down while as Mod Quartz I will say nothing, thus giving you no ammo against me as a critic there.
I’d sure as hell appreciate it.
I’ll even be nice and not post this under the usual anti-knight tags (Though if someone else reblogs this, and adds those tags, I refuse to take responsibility for the actions of another).
Then why is Rwde a tag then? That is an anti-knight tag since so many people in the rwde tag dislike me, you7 are still singling me out for ridicule. And no, rwde doesn’t apply here as you are, in your won words, criticizing me. Meaning no RWBY and thus no rwde. Too bad about that huh?
And since you held me responsible for MSD even  after we said we didn’t approve of him: Nope.
Now how about you quit with the weak punches and actually do some damage.
Or
Is that all you got?
