""A great deal of fuss was made, both by Harris and by his fans in comment threads, about Chomsky’s cantankerousness. Some readers are anxious to call the “debate” in Harris’s favor because of it. While Chomsky does clearly evince impatience and frustration with Harris, the rhetorical flourishes which so miffed Harris are typical of Chomsky’s manner: phrases like “As you know” and the rather more cutting, “If you had read further before launching your accusations, the usual procedure in work intended to be serious, you would have discovered…”""

i’ve stopped making serious / earnest posts a while ago bc 1. can’t be bothered and 2. need to stop blabbering around on the internet but one thing that i think is important to mention is how deeply belgium is sinking into islamophobia like it already is a pretty islamophobic place to begin with lol i’m not saying anything new or groundbreaking but it’s so normalized now AND it’s very obvious that it’s sponsored by the state and its apparatuses. like how many civil society organizations are losing fundings bc their target audience are racialised people but especially muslims? how many academic projects are seeing their funding cut because they’re not focusing on securitization and terrorism in muslim communities? i spent the whole day at a university in brussels going from one department to the other and everywhere it was the same tune if you don’t submit projects that have to do with radicalization and islam you can kiss your funding goodbye. at the region and state level they only hand out peanuts which don’t even cover staff costs so if you want to launch your own projects you have to do it pro bono bc all the money is funneled into the project itself and none of it into its functioning. and it’s all so transparent bc it’s obviously in preparation of the upcoming 2024 elections where we’ll have a repeat of the anti-woke discourse that the global north is neck deep in lol anyways i’m jumping out of the titanic adios civil society

hi val! i have a question bc i trust your movie opinions. have you seen dune and if so, what are your thoughts on it? my mom recently wanted to watch dune 1 with me and we got like half an hour in before we gave up due to general boredom. i keep seeing everyone talk about how great of a movie it is though, so i figured id ask you for your opinion 🤔 (unless you havent watched it - ive also seen a lot of people make valid points about the racism/islamophobia in dune)
hi!! ive not seen dune sorry, i dont even know what the book is really about except deserts and maybe a water shortage ? honestly none of my mutuals have posted about it + ive seen some vsgue stuff about the racism too so im like "well its obviously not worth my time goodbye" but i am also less of a movie girlie more of a tv show guy yknow!

"I don't fully disagree with what OP said," so you partly disagree with, "Jews and Muslims are both from the same land and have both had a continuous presence there for centuries, and denying that Jews are from there and deserve to live there safely is ahistorical and antisemitic," then?
What part do you disagree with? "Jews and Muslims can coexist in the land they're both from," or "Jews deserve to live safely in said land"?
OR the secret third option, that "Jews can and should live safely in the Levant, the land they originated from," and "Muslims can and should live safely in the Levant, the land they originated from," are both true statements and can coexist.
Either way you're an antisemite, an islamophobe or both, but I just had to make sure.
Take this trash blog with your trash opinions and completely unnecessary interjection back to Twitter so it can be surrounded by similar trashfires.
Silly anon coward, I wasn't disagreeing with the OP at all. I agree with everything they said.
I disagree with what the second reblog stated regarding the precedent that the discourse on Jewish Indigineity will set for other indigenous groups.
I don't belive it'll affect those conversations at all. Also. I am muslim. Also. I have nothing against Jewish ppl. Fuck antisemitism and fuck Islamophobia and fuck the state of Israel.
Goodbye.

I’d said goodbye to it and now this?? I didn’t think they could make this any worse but now they’re ruining my memories? I’m just going to pretend a new gen never existed
fr and like they expect us to forget the racism and islamophobia they subjected the characters to for the last two seasons???? the last two years of wtfock were so painful for so many reasons and now they just expect us to be cool with them trotting the show they ran into the ground out again for fun?

Oh anyways abortion is illegal in my country
And so is same sex marriage and adoption
Literally most people here are homophobic
There is like the tiniest amount of mental health awareness
Barely any therapists and most likely very expensive too
Racism exists too
So does islamophobia despite most of the population being muslim
Oh and my mom came in jn and asked what I was talking about with my friends and I said the banning of abortions in USA and she said well it is a sin
Fml literally goodbye can I jump off a cliff my views are the exact opposite to my parents and general public
At least I have my two best friends that have the same views as me its legit so rare im grateful af

As arabs, travelling to european countries is terrifying, we say goodbye to our family or friends who are travelling there with a heart full of fear, fear of islamophobia and racisim against arabs and non-white people.
may allah bless all of us and fill the whole world with peace and tolerance.

I run in to a far-right guy with extremely strange opinions on the history of Islam
(cw: islamophobia)
I was doing political advocacy in the streets yesterday and this far right guy came to explain to me that I was complacent to Muslim terrorists (standard center-right to far-right talking point in Europe)
I tried to make him admit that not all Muslims believed exactly the same thing. In a desperate attempt at rationality, I asked if he knew there were Shia and Sunni Muslims, who don't believe the same things.
What a mistake.
This guy VERY SERIOUSLY told me that actually Shia Muslims were crypto-christians. That's why they don't like to commit violence (the Iranian Revolution didn't happen apparently?).
Then he told me that Christianity was very different from Islam because it's inherently pro-secularism and peaceful. I'm obviously the wrong person to tell that to because I wrote 500+ pages about the crusades. Told him about the crusades. He didn't answer.
And then. FINALLY. The icing on the cake.
He was 100% convinced that the Umayyads - the second dynasty of the Muslim Empire - were actually Christians.
Not crypto-Christians. Full on Christians.
At this point, I just completely abandonned any hope of reaching him, and politely said goodbye.
