Be honest, we all done this before. And yeah, this meme just barely met the requirements to get into our "Fame Awards" chat!

I saw your tags about the salary of the riders being low and I have something to say about this... It's Ducati fault. Let me elaborate.

Ducati knows they have the best and more competitive bike, so they make the offer and if the rider say no, they just call the next one on their list. In 2021, there was a post/extract from how the salaries have changed over time, and they said that they were grateful no rider had to pay for their own seat (until that point Tito had to put money in the Avintia team in form of sponsors from his family store (Joyerias Rabbat)).

What it struck me the most, is that with the exception of Marc, the Suzuki riders (Joan and Álex) where the best paid, and the Ducati where the ones payed the less (less than 1 million euros. I don't remember the exact number, but it remember a 200.000-250.000).

You will think that was just because it was post pandemic, well, some media reported that Luca is now winning more as a Honda rider (3 million euros I think), versus what he was earning as a Ducati rider (around 1 million euros, and Bezz is rumored to earn even less (500.000 euros).

Of course, this is only media speculation, and we will never know what they really earn. Plus this could change with the new round of contracts, but Ducati has this pattern and other manufacturers follow it, accept this, or we have 20 guys that also want your job, and if not we will call Moto2 riders.

This gets even more dramatic when you look at lower categories, where some riders have to put their own money, their federation or convince sponsors to invest in the team for them to have a seat.

YES this is what ive found during my sleuthing too. don't be sorry!! thank you for typing this all out, waru! ducati really is completely controlling the drivers market and salaries and i wonder for how long this will go on until something breaks. though i think the only way for these predatory practices to stop is if unionizing happens.

re: luca at honda, youre right! mat oxley was saying lucas earning 5 million at honda right now and bezz 500k (x) though this could obviously be exaggerated a bit, i do believe its around those numbers though. they'd make sense if joan got a pay increase too.

im interested to read more about how salaries and bargaining power have changed historically.. i gotta get on that
