some of you people are so obsessed with having an acceptable group to ‘punch up’ at that you would rather pretend a marginalized group are Basically The Oppressors™ than listen to their valid criticisms about the fact that ‘punching up’ very rarely hits the intended target, and the majority of the actual damage of that act is suffered by fellow marginalized people in your own community. there is a significant difference between venting frustrations about privileged groups and just outright attacking anyone who (you assume) experiences that axis of privilege regardless of - and in many cases outright denying - their actual lived experiences. it goes far beyond just ‘venting frustrations’ when what you’re really doing is trying to find a moral justification to bully people you don’t like, and when your own desire for catharsis and moral superiority leads to ignoring the voices of the vulnerable people you hurt. you’re not ‘punching up’ - you just like punching people for the sake of punching.

me: coming to terms with my fanworks being really niche and not interesting to the majority of the fandom and maybe not the greatest in anything but decent enough to have a few people be interested and thats fine and good and i shouldnt feel bad about it and feel grateful for what i do have-

one of my many gripes over the webtoon-ification of the webcomic world is that none of the really popular webcomics now look....bad.

like....every popular webcomic that i see anyone talking about has really pretty polished professional-looking art and it's just...tiring? it feels like quality standards have risen an absurd amount ever since webtoon became The Big Webcomic Platform, and if you aren't a professional artist, it's impossible to gain any sort of popularity. (and a lot of those pretty polished art styles just really seem to be there to cover up a mediocre plot).

i just feel like the concept of reading a comic for the plot rather than the art style has sort of curled up and died. and its really annoying.

90s run PAD has this rlly annoying trend where he very often write a female character being in love w miguel and suddenly her entire character shrinks down to the scope of what drama this provokes and it's near continually in service to the narratives of men (Gabriel and Miguel interpersonal drama for example). even when there are actually interesting things to be mined from this angle like w lyla its like. this is a pattern w you dude.

ffxiv garlemald discourse is so funny because people will go "ugh people just cant stand it when things aren't black and white" and then you look at how the empire are portrayed in stormblood and shadowbringers and its like hm. that seems like a pretty intense and accurate display of violent imperialism to me! Wow I wonder why people in this day and age may find it hard to feel sympathy for them or even hate them on principal. god its such a mystery.

the games like 50/50 to me on how it tackles these themes because I actually like the garlemald arc in EW, I think it has a lot of horrific and powerful scenes depicting how self destructive fascist propaganda and beliefs are, but I also think it doesn't go far enough on some fronts. the garleans' xenophobia is most notably and obstacle to getting them to accept the contingent's help, which is what they're there to do,

but there's never an admission of harm from any garleans on the uuuuuuuuh massive amount of war crimes the nations around them are still suffering from they're just kind of like "we misjudged you...but you actually wanted to help us all along" like yeah thats great now can we get you all some deprogramming because you keep talking about returning to your prime and glory days and I think we need to unpack some stuff you really SHOULDNT return to. im not even really talking about EW proper but the patches where things are a bit more chilled out and people are recovering.

It feels like they wanted to have their critique of imperialism and also have things end with the beauty of human connection and reaching out and these things just don't mesh well because hey a lot of your modern day audience is not gonna like having to treat people yelling xenophobic things at the cast and your character with kid gloves after you showed them hours and hours of the awful things these people's beliefs have done. especially in the present day hoo boy.

wrote actual real words (like! 1.5k of them!) for the first time in...weeks?? maybe over a month??? and we crossed 10k on this wip that feels like it'll never get finished. so! yay for progress!

Laurey Williams unironically one of the characters of all time. For multiple reasons but primarily because when faced with having to choose which dude to go to a dance with she immediately went to “get super fucked up on opium” as a solution. Queen shit.

okay actually it really rubs me the wrong way that there's ppl who think it's bad etiquette to delete a fic from ao3 instead of orphaning the work like. do u not understand how many different reasons there are someone will want to choose to delete instead of orphan it.

So the people have spoken and you want me to coin more genders and do more lazy flag combos. (And some pronoun flags. I'll probably leave those to sunnydrop). However I have many avenues I'm interested in taking coining that I really can't decide on so here's my proposition.

Here's the things I can/want to do as of right now:

1. I have a shit ton of drafts of other people's coining posts that I want to add flags to. Usually from creators that aren't on here anymore and I wanted to add them to my board but I need a flag for that.

2 I have random coining ideas for genders/orientations that don't exist yet but are very scattered. Like literally my notes app has genders I've written down in the moment to coin at a later date and it's... Extensive.

3 I have an organized list of genders all themed around rain that's miles long because I heavily relate to it.

4. I also wanna make some flags for specific things (like a homoromantic flag that isn't just the gay flag tweaked or the rainbow flag with a heart.). These are also slightly scattered but I can't find some flags I'd like to find.

5. Make independent(aka dosent look like a mash up of both flags or just laying one flag over another) identity combo flags(like a demigirl lesbian flag that doesn't look like the demigirl or lesbian flag.)

6. I can also reopen requests for any kind of gender. Though I'd need a lot more interaction, I'd love to work on some -lexic, aldernic, -scentic and religiogenders.

7. Mass character/fandom coining stuff or genders related to characters and fandoms. Some would fit in the above categories but I'd love to methodically go through my fandoms and make extensive collections of charactegenders.
