“Do you feel old?” You ask Jude, your voice hoarse from performing multiple songs back to back on the garish karaoke machine his mum had rented out for the occasion. There are now at least a dozen badly shot videos of you singing in Jude’s camera roll, including a rendition of ‘happy birthday’ sung by you and his brother where half his index finger is covering the lens.

“What’d you mean?” After hours of displaying nothing but rash energy, Jude finally feels himself getting sluggish while trying to endure the unbearable gnawing feeling of pins and needles rising up his legs; a big plush sofa sits untouched on the other side of the living room but you’ve both decided to drunkenly cram yourselves onto the armchair in a mess of tangled limbs.

“Just a silly question.” As you flutter your eyes shut, Jude tries to get a proper look at the glitter eyeshadow you had meticulously applied earlier that evening. In the wake of a large round of tequila shots, some of his friends had insisted on having their own ‘sparkle stuff’ and began queuing at the bathroom door like kids waiting to get their face painted like a tiger at the zoo. “Do you feel any older yet?”

“I’m not sure.” It’s the kind of question he’d once been asked in the primary school playground, with a blue birthday badge pinned proudly onto the fabric of his uniform. Back then it seemed very easy and obvious to answer plainly with a ‘no’, though now he’s finding himself stumped for a reply entirely. “Do you ever feel like that?”

“I think the last age I felt was seventeen.” You say definitively as if you've thought about it at great length before. Jude hadn’t known you at that age, but his home screen for almost a year was a photo your mum had shown him of you pulling a horrific face while blowing out the candles of your seventeenth birthday cake.

“That’s probably the same for me.” Embarrassingly, Jude had once referred to himself as a ‘seventeen-year-old’ during a frenzied post-match interview and then had to sheepishly correct himself by clarifying that he had just turned nineteen. Sometimes he feels like the years are slipping through his fingers like sand and there’s no sufficient way to stop them.

“Then before that it was twelve.” You continue as you do a little cat-like stretch with your free arm which Jude finds incredibly endearing along with everything else you do; he supposes it’s a very common side-effect when it comes to being in love.

“I found being twelve proper boring.” It was something he remembers expressing even at that age. Just as if he had been dropped off somewhere by his childhood and was painstakingly waiting for his teenage years to finally pick him up and take him somewhere exciting. “It’s such an in-between age.”

“That’s true.” The sky in the open window behind you is that awkward shade of grey that appears just before sunrise, like a page when a printer begins to suddenly run out of ink.

“I wish we’d known each other as kids.” Jude feels as though he goes through life with your name humming inside his chest like a second heart and yet this sentence seems so intimate that he can’t even look at you as speaks. Instead, he takes extra care and attention towards staring at the ceiling and inspecting all the sparse helium balloons that have floated up towards it.

“So do I.” Your words come out as a dozy whisper and Jude finds himself smiling up at a star-shaped foil balloon. He’s not twelve or seventeen, but he’s just turned twenty and loves you so much that he doesn’t even care that both of his legs have gone completely numb from sitting with you on this unbearably uncomfortable armchair.

You could hear your phone ringing. You weren't sure where exactly. You felt the natural urgency to pick your it up. You opened your eyes, squinting at the sunlight that leaked into your room. You answered the phone with a creaky little “Hello?” you asked. Flopping on your back.

The tiredness of waking up suddenly filled your body. “Y/n? ARE YOU STILL ASLEEP?” Tara’s voice shrills through your phone. You wince holding the phone away from your ear in pain. “Yes Tara, I WAS still asleep until you called me. I am still hungover… I think.” you said rubbing your eyes, you felt something weird on your hands so you looked at them only to reveal dried crusty makeup… Perfect!

Falling asleep with your makeup on is super cute. “Y/n! It's 2 pm! You have my party later! You can be hungover tomorrow, ok?” she said. You hear rattling sounds, she is presumably setting stuff up while calling you. You take the phone from your face to reveal it is, infact, 2:13 pm. You put the phone back up to your face, sighing.

“Yeah I remember, don't worry,” you mumbled, turning over. “Ok good, and take care of yourself seriously, eat like a salad or some shit,” Tara says as you let out a little giggle at her words. “Will do Tara,” you say, finally standing up and stretching.

“Bye y/n.” you hear her say before the call ends. “Mmmmm fuck.” you mumble to yourself rubbing your face, with your hands. You check your phone to see a text from Carrington asking if you are still collabing today.

“Damnit,” you mumble, pulling up the text chain. You confirmed the collaboration and suggested a video idea of streaming you guys trying the deli food from Erewhon for the first time. He agreed to the idea, you took a shower, got half ready, and filmed the stream with your friend.

All the comments talking about just how rough you looked were not helping your confidence any. You knew that they were joking but still. It didn't make you feel very good or very motivated to dress cute for the party tonight.

A party where Johnnie WOULD be. And as stupid as it was to admit you wanted to impress him so much. So after the video was filmed of eating shitty and overpriced food you managed to pull yourself together to get ready. Hoping back in a shower to shave and go the full nine yards.

You put on a damn cute outfit that was sure to earn a few edits from your fans. You did your makeup and hair to your liking and the night was looking up. You frizzed and messed with the last strand of your hair before snapping a picture for your Instagram story.

You were feeling a little mischievous and decided to put a song in the background as one of Johnnie’s. You picked “Angel of Death” since you helped him direct that one. You posted the black-and-white selfie and audibly giggled at the thought of seeing him within the next hour or so.

You hopped into an Uber and eventually made it to Tara’s party. The bright lights and music created a lively and bright atmosphere. You set your bag in Tara’s room and made your way through the living room saying hi to all your friends.

Managing to get to the rooftop where Tara and the rest of the gang were. “Heyyyy,” you said creeping up behind your short friend. “Y/n!” she shouts, wrapping her arms around you.

You get pulled into a tight and warm hug, smelling the alcohol on her breath. “Y/n, what's up?” Sam asked, looking up from his seat on a couch. Fairy lights and another speaker were set up outside.

There were a bunch of people all packed into the smaller space. “I'm good, what about you?” you ask, taking a cup from the table. “Were good were good. We just heard about you being a little hungover this morning from Tara.” Sam said, squinting as he took a sip of his drink.

You faked a look of offense as you looked at Tara. She has a giant grin making her hand into a heart as an apology. “Tsk tsk. I was not hungover! I was just recovering from one the previous day, ok?” you say in defense of yourself as you sit next to Johnnie and Colby.

“Well, that's not what we heard,” Colby said next to you, holding his hands up. “I was hungover yesterday and these two dumbasses forced me to try 7/11 pizza so yeah this morning was a rough time ok?” you say pointing to Jake and Johnnie.

Jake’s mouth flew open in offense. “Woah ok the Pizza was NOT that bad.” he grabbed a bottle of alcohol pouring some into his cup. Johnnie let out a dry laugh beside you, you turned to him smiling. “Ok, y/n we believe you. And you didn't wake up next to that server we saw mmmm?” Tara said, moving her shoulder a little.

“Hell no I didn't wake up next to no fucking server. You're one to talk by the way,” you said, sipping whatever was in your cup. “Whatever,” Tara says as you settle into the couch.

The air was cold but there were heat lamps surrounding the terrace. The next warmest thing was Johnnie's body. He was so close to yours that you could practically feel his heat radiating onto your skin. “Was the pizza that bad?” Johnnie whispered into your ear.

“No not really but Jake woke me up at the ass crack of dawn to stream that so,” you whispered back. You could smell his cologne and the smell of cigarette smoke on him. You know that smoking wasn't a good habit but fuck he did look hot when he did.

“Hey, it was like 11 when we filmed that. It was not that early ok?” he said back his voice louder this time. Not that anyone noticed. Everyone else was absorbed in their conversations at this point. You giggle slightly at his words.

Your eyes look up to meet his. It's hard under all his hair and messy eye makeup to see his bright blue eyes, but you manage. You stare into them for almost too long. You close your eyes forcing yourself to look away. You’re scared you might have never been able to look away if it wasn't for the fact you were both at a party with other people.

Including all of your and his friends who would tease you both if you were gazing into each other's eyes. “Hey, I was hungover that day, ok? 11 is way too fucking early to be up hungover.” you say in defense of yourself for what feels like the millionth time this night alone, downing whatever was in your cup.

You inhaled sharply feeling the roaring effects of the alcohol as it burned its way down your throat. “Yeah, that's completely fair,” Johnnie says, moving his head slightly to move his hair. You purse your lips together moving your body to face the group again.

Johnnie stays looking at you, his shoulders now completely blocking your view of Jake. Not that you were complaining of course. The night moved on, and you didn't drink a lot, not trying to upset your stomach further of course.

By now you, Jake, and Johnnie were all doing some shitty karaoke downstairs. You of course had picked a PTV song and were attempting to nail the notes. After your throat was sore you handed the microphone off to Jake and sat next to Johnnie once again.

Jake had picked some Billy Joel song he and was failing miserably. You and Johnnie were both giggling away at his antics. You pulled out your phone to record him. “Oh god are you actually gonna post that?” Johnnie asks with a grin.

“Duh. Probably just put it on my Instagram story,” you said nudging him slightly. There is a beat of silence between you two before Johnnie speaks again. “Is there a reason you posted your picture to my song?” Johnnie asked.

Your hands, which were still holding your phone, dropped slightly. You felt a rush of heat flood your face as your brain short-circuited. Trying to come up with an excuse for your random amount of boldness.

“Oh- I just- I-” you stuttered out turning the video off. You felt like a fish out of water flapping around for any excuse you could think of. And thank whatever god may exist as your prayers were answered as Jake handed the microphone to Johnnie.

“What? Dude, I'm not singing.” Johnnie said, looking at Jake’s hand holding the microphone. “Duuuude!” Jake says dramatically slouching down, feeling the obvious effects of the liquor. “Dude you're literally a singer,” you say looking at him, your eyebrow cocked up.

“I-” he starts to speak before looking at his friend and then at you. You nod your head in encouragement, he closes his eyes with a sigh. “Fine,” he mutters, grabbing the microphone. He takes a few seconds to queue up a song.

You don't record this time. Just laugh with your friends as Johnnie attempts to sing a song. His eyes catch yours for a moment, and his voice breaks and slowly stops working. It seems like time slows down only your heartbeat can be heard

It feels like for a few seconds your worlds combined. The eyes that were watching Johnnie apparently caught up to him as he suddenly looked around the room. He tries to pick up the pace of this song and fails miserably. Completely missing half the words.

Your breath catches in your throat and you decide you need a break. You swallow deeply, stand up and almost run out of the room. You weren't sure what you were doing, just that you felt like your insides were suffocating.

You made it to the kitchen grabbing an empty solo cup and filling it up with water. You gulped down a few drinks of it before sitting up on a counter. You wipe a drop of water that fell from your mouth as footsteps alert you someone walked into the kitchen.

You turn to see that Johnnie is slowly creeping into the room. “Hey,” you said looking back down at your feet that rested against the cabinet. “Hey,” he said, walking around the kitchen island facing you. “You okay?” he asked, leaning against the opposite counter as you.

“Y-yeah I'm fine. Just got a little intense back there I guess,” you said gesturing to the living room where we both just were. “Did you really wake up with that server?” he asks, barely able to keep eye contact.

You laugh slightly “God no.” you mutter out once again looking down. “Tara And Kat were making a bunch of jokes about it but I was never into him don't worry.” you say trying to laugh it off.

He doesn't say anything, just slowly getting closer to you. You looked up at him. You feel your eyes lock again.

You don't shy away this time. You let Yourself hold eye contact. That familiar feeling in your face travels back in. Your breaths move at similar paces as he slowly shares your space.

You tried to speak but no words came out. You're glad they don't truthfully. Johnnie's hand slowly comes up and meets your face, holding your chin. He moves in between your legs and pulls your face in for a kiss.

Your eyes flutter closed as your lips meet. You swear you could hear fireworks exploding in your brain. He was so so so close, but you needed him closer. The cup was long abandoned as your hands reached up to pull his face closer.

It seems to work as his whole body moves next to you, touching you. His hand, the other one that wasn't holding your face steady moves to hold himself on the counter.

You're not sure how long it was before you moved away from him for a breath. You feel the heat in your cheeks move down to your neck and chest and you look down. “Wanna get out of here?”

A/N: sorry for the random ass post, but I miss soft romance AU, and he's the only comfort character that I know would fit into this. (it's a wonder what a half heart could do to a lady, huh?) Anyway, enjoy my take on him ^^

General

He might not realize it, but most of his clothes are women's clothes. For a reason that he find the texture softer, and more comfortable, compared to men's clothes

Like shirts, and the outerwears

He likes woman's shampoo (*cough* Diane) as well, because it makes his hair smoother, and smells good

He also wears skincare, but limits himself to moisturizer only. Because he once brought so many products, but he ended up not using them because they didn't fit his skin type. He had learnt his lesson

Books and poetry are his weak spots. He likes to read, and can never resist a novel with an interesting title

He treats Orpheus and Eurydice story like the Bible

Sometimes he writes, but he finds his poems terrible, so he never shares it to anyone

Surprisingly, he doesn't have any favorite movie. While he does like a few movies, there's none that touched him—to the point that it changes him as a person

People around him would debate over his pet preference, some would be so sure that he's a dog person, while the others were dead serious about him being a cat person.

(Imagine their surprise when they found out that he owned a ball python)

He prefers to cook his own food rather than buying take-out, except for the food that (1) took a long time to make, and (2) sourdough bread (or any kind of artisan breads, really)

Talking about preference, his favorite beverages are smoothies and wines. But for wine, he only likes them when they're sweet. If it's a red wine, he'd like them hot and spiced. For white wine, he prefers port wine. I can see him liking any sweet cocktail like Baileys, Sangria, or Margarita. He only indulges in alcohol every once in a while, but smoothies? Oh boy…

Contrary to people's belief, he doesn't listen to music that much. Even if he does, he's listen to instrumental music

He values his concentration a lot, and would do anything to keep himself focused. That's why he practices meditation, and he'd take some time to meditate, at least once a day.

I can see him as someone who owns a perfume shop, or a place for an art exhibition. And he won't have just one job either, he'll have many things on his plate that's relating to arts, fragrances, and wellness

When people ask him about his belief, he'd say that he believes everyone is responsible for their actions. He doesn't believe that God would meddle with people's affairs, and strongly believes in karma. He also believes in reincarnation, that's why he tries to not make enemies with anyone, because he doesn't want to deal with them again in the next life

While he doesn't necessarily believe in the personification of God, he believes in the existence of Deities, and he respects their existence as something beyond human knowledge

Which, in turns, makes him luckier somehow

(Maybe it's because Deities favor him, but who knows)

He's really bad at video games, mainly because he never takes it too seriously. But his friends would invite him to play, because he always makes them laugh

He also sings, very badly at karaoke, because he never listens to the songs

Despite of his easy-going nature, no one's really close to him. He's a private person, and wouldn't disclose anything about himself too much

But strangely, people would claim that they know him best, solely on the random facts that he had told them separately

(And it's always fun to watch them arguing about it)

Love/Relationship

Like I said earlier, he's easy-going, and that means he's easy to approach too. But that's it, that's what he'd ever be

He's approachable, but unavailable at the same time

And the reason for it, is because his idea for love is very complex. He couldn't love someone if they didn't connect on deeper level

In the past, he's not afraid to kiss anyone he found interesting, but as he grew up, he did it less and less, to the point of stopping

(Once, he got into an argument because the person he kissed believed that they had something, but he firmly stated that they're nothing. Which snowballed into a fight, and their relationship became a gossip for quite a while)

He never slept with anyone either, because he believes that sex is an exchange of energy, and he didn't want to give a 'part' of him to someone he didn't truly love

I think he's pretty much the embodiment of 'fell in love first × fell harder' trope

He wouldn't know his feelings before they hit him all at once

And when it happens, he won't know what to do, because it's very unfamiliar to him

He'd distance himself with the person he loved, while trying to make sense of his feelings. Does he really love them? Is it something that's genuine, or will it pass?

But once he found all of the answers, he's committing, hard

You won't see any hesitation from him when he confess to you

Would just marry you on the spot if he could

Of course, he'll take it slow at first, but he knows that there's no one else he wants more than you. So he'll work hard to make sure that you're happy with him

Having conversations with him hits different, because he knows you and your way of thinking. You'd say just one word, and he'd already know the whole sentence

On the fluff sides, I think he'll pretty much share things with you

He'll let you move in with him, and will let you use his things without complain

That includes his clothes and skincare

You'd be surprised to find that many of his clothes fit you perfectly. Because they are women's clothes after all

Would prefer to cook for you, but wouldn't mind taking you out for dinner either

Dating him consists of a lot of talking, a lot of kisses, and a lot of cuddles

If you need help, he won't hesitate to do it for you. He'd take care of you when you're sick, he'd pick you up despite of the distance and the time. Whenever you phoned him, you knew he'd pick up in an instant

(He knows it's not healthy, but he can't help it, his world revolves around you now)

You know the post where a man was at the party before he said he missed his gf and went home immediately? Yeah, that's him

If you wear lip balm/lip gloss, you'll find him staring at you, until you apply it to his lips as well

Since he takes good care of his hair, he'll do it to yours too. He'd buy the best products for your hair, and would take care of it twice a week, leaving your hair soft and healthy

In terms of social life, he'd pretty much introduce you to everyone he knows. Whether it's his family, or just friends

Speaking of his family, his parents already welcomed you long before you even met them. They both would exchange a meaningful look whenever their son talked about you. They trust his choice, and will give you both their support if needed

(Now that you've entered the picture, his parents won't stop talking about your relationship with him. They'd gossip like two bored wives in the lazy afternoon, about how he'd propose, or what the wedding would look like)

And Faust!! That little thing is pretty much your child now

When the two of you are cuddling, Faust will find a way to nestles between you and him

well friends... it seems it may be real....

i opened instagram today to see what i believed to the perfect april fools joke of all time. as the day went on however, i began to find the so called "shourtney evidence" i once disregarded as i had never seen it. by it i mean the trip europe, the family photos, and a facebook video posted two years ago with 14 likes of a man singing karaoke with the two of them and shayne's hand behind courtney for 4 and half minutes. i am in utter shock! i have loved these two for almost 10 years!! when i was younger i used to ship them so hard lol but later i stopped with how much they denied it and said they were only friends. if this real i am very happy for them but find it odd that they would deny deny deny for so long so hard? i guess we will see tomorrow

There’s actually a number of darts bars in Kichijoji, but I didn’t manage to find any that gave me Penguin Sniper vibes (do message me if you know of one, though!). In the first place, I’d always wondered why a bunch of high schoolers were allowed into a darts bar at all -- you’d expect it to have an older clientele and probably serve alcohol, fr’instance.

Then, after scrolling around the map for a bit, I noticed there’s actually a ROUND1 on the Kichijoji SUNROAD main strip. ROUND1 is an amusement store chain, kind of like an arcade that offers activities like bowling, karaoke, billiards, and darts. Since it’s an amusement center, even elementary schoolers are allowed, though I think there’s some kind of curfew for kids.

So in this particular ROUND1, the darts machines and pool tables are on the same floor...

The layout of the room is pretty close, I’d say, although the RL “bar” is actually a cashier, not a place to eat. The machines in front of the bar let you sign up for play sessions.

I thought about playing a game of darts but decided against it. x) Next time I’ll bring a friend!

Fun note: some of the dart machines make the exact same sound effects that are used in the minigame in P5R. I had a mild out of body experience hearing them go beep boop IRL xd

Anyway back to the jazz bar. XD Even the stairs down to the bar are reproduced faithfully.

The lunch menu, for interest! (I had a lunch set of an anchovy and olive tomato sauce spaghetti with a latte au lait, a slice of cheesecake, and a lime soda. Yeah ok I pigged out. I blame Akechi)

I got lucky, arriving about half an hour before the first show was scheduled, so the place was pretty empty and I got a seat at the bar. The cover charge was 1500 yen; I stayed and watched for an hour. :D

The seats depicted in the game give the best view of the live performances, and are reservation only...although for reasons of needing to face the in-game camera, you will notice that they are looking at a wall instead of the actual performance. XD

(Also, in my head this means that Akechi reserved seats for them on their date there, ahead of time. It’s how it works in real life, so it must be true!)

I took a couple of photos after customers cleared out between shows. You can see the grand piano as well as the raised seated area behind the stage, and the additional restaurant seating on the right -- there’s stairs leading both up and down to more tables.

A funny aside that has little to do with Akechi -- while I was sitting there enjoying my food and the music, I noticed that several other customers had with them what looked an AWFUL lot like a single American dollar. Obviously the bar is in Japan so I was wondering wtf was going on; genuinely thought I was losing my mind. Or maybe it was like some kind of secret code that I wasn’t aware of...???? IDK, I was spiraling lmao

It turns out it’s actually your check. (A dollar “bill,” I suppose.............)

Even with the cover charge, the bill came to like $30. Pretty worth for the semi-religious experience of watching a jazz performance at Akechi’s favorite place.

rgg game osts ranked Yeah.................

LONG ASS POST AHEAD!!!!!! BAH!!!!!!!!!!!

for context awhile back a yakuza discord server i'm in had a music discussion thread open up and we were invited to make simple little tier lists for the game osts to start it off. it was supposed to be just the tier list but i eventually spiraled into a whole ramble. whoops. so i might as well just paste it here with a few additions so the rest of you can see it yippee!!!!!!!!!!!!

will be providing my reasonings and then my highlight tracks. i'm gonna provide convenient youtube links to all the songs mentioned so if you wanna check one of them out feel free to just click the hyperlink

and yes this is ordered in tiers. the personal highlights aren't though

>Yakuza 5 is my personal top 1 OST overall, but it's seriously close. I can't tell you enough how much of a nut I am for this series and its music. Yakuza 5's ost is, in my eyes, the most consistently hard-hitting amongst all of RGG's catalogue. The street fight themes are all amazing, the boss fight themes hit hard and pump you the hell up, and this also has the one of the best B-sides out of all of them, with stuff like Baka Mitai (fun fact, Saejima's is actually considered the original version, Kiryu's "Taxi Driver Edition" actually uses a different key to fit Kuroda's voice), the songs from Haruka's section, and even the jazzy bar themes. 5 hits that perfect balance of quantity and quality, and also happens to fill like half of my workout playlist.

>I am such a sucker for Yakuza 4's music direction. As Tehsnakerer said in his Yakuza 4 video, this is the first truly GREAT soundtrack, and I'd have to agree. The jazzier style of music on showcase here fits this series- and this entry ESPECIALLY- like a glove. This is such a quality collection of sounds. Featuring the best panic themes, the best chase themes, and some iconic street battle themes. 4's direction makes it stand out even more amongst RGG's catalogue, and I couldn't be happier about it. Also, this game gave us Machine Gun Kiss and Pure Love in Kamurocho, which are two of my favorite karaoke tracks in the whole series.

Please bring back Pure Love in Kamurocho for a modern title, RGG. I'm begging you.

>Is anyone gonna disagree with me when I say Lost Judgment is easily the best out of the more techno-focused soundtracks? They handle it perfectly here, with tracks that grab you by the throat like K.O.G. and Dig In Your Heels, utilizing the electric sound with effortless grace, while still having enough variety throughout to keep it from getting stale. I also found the B-sides here surprisingly strong alongside the main game, with the school stories giving us a nice variety of music to work with. The boxing ones and Toward To The Skyline are what I'd highlight in that selection.

>Gaiden oh my gah......... Despite the shorter game, I seriously dig the tracks on display here. It's so consistently amazing, and does a great job of servicing both the legacy of Kiryu, and giving us some Good Shit™️ for the newer faces. This is also when I really came to appreciate the cutscene tracks: Wounded Beast is such a kickass track that you'd be forgiven for thinking it plays in an actual fight, and Psycho's Prelude is an amazing hype-up track for an even more amazing boss theme. Also worth mentioning there's like a gajillion coliseum tracks in this one. Have no idea why but y'know I appreciate it. It's cool.

>0 has One-Eyed Assassin so it automatically goes here. The rest of the tracks are decent too ig 🙄 There are a few sort of those "eh whatever cool skip it" tracks in here which hold it back a teeny bit in my eyes, but this is still a really solid collection overall, and also gets props for being Kiwami's soundtrack if it was good. I'm kidding of course but 0 handles it pretty well for the most part. I find 0 is at its best music-wise when they either go all-in with the techno, or shy away from it almost entirely.

>Yakuza 6 has Lots of Lights so it automati I think 6 does a really good job at telling a story through its music. You have tragedy being painted in Fist Law and DESTINY, you have sheer anger and brutality being portrayed in Body and Soul, and you can even find it in the street themes with the feeling of "I am completely done with all of this bullshit" in KAMURO again. I also wanna say this has some of ZENTA's best work, which I really really REALLY appreciate.

>Judgment immediately does a great job of differentiating itself from the Yakuzas, and it's apparent as soon as you get into the street fight tutorial. Where some battle themes in the main series feel like a victory lap, JE instead sometimes has you feel like you're on the backfoot. Lambda, Hyenas Wheezing, and Rake Your Inside are all tracks that make you feel like an underdog, and give you that strength to power through what seems like impossible odds. >Like a Dragon (/7) is another heavily techno leaning OST. If you asked me about it a few months ago, I probably would have put this higher. But now with IW out, I've started to see more of 7's OST's flaws. There are few tracks that are either weirdly low-energy, or feel a little generic and mesh together with the rest of the soundtrack, or at worst, both. But 7 still has quite the number of solid tracks, and those that stand out REALLY stand out. Shoutout to one of the most unique long battle tracks in Enter the Tiger.

>Yakuza 3 acts as a sort of bridge between the rough, almost grunge-like sound of the PS2 era and the cleaner compositions of later entries. And I think it does both of those styles pretty well! It also starts to experiment with electric sound a little more, while still keeping the heavy guitars 1+2 are known for. The best are obviously composed of the tracks that do both. They even keep the unintelligible English lyrics in some tracks, what's not to love?

>Atmosphere is a large part of the PS2 era of Yakuza games' identity, and the music is a pretty large part of that. Yakuza 2 has an aggressive, grungy sound that pairs perfectly with the brutality of the game. You'll find some of the most of the most rough sounding songs in RGG's catalogue in here, and it's just so good in a way that isn't really replicated in the more modern entries. Also one of the tracks (Block Head Boy) samples Wu-Tang for some reason and I find that very funny.

>Kiwami 2. Yeah this one falls into the same trap as 7 does, but with less of those "This is the greatest thing to grace my ears" tracks. It still has some of them, though. The best remixes here are the ones that touch up and make completely sure that what the original has is intact: Lullaby of Outlaws and A Scattered, Eternal Moment are both fantastic in that regard. This also has a decent chunk of completely new tracks, presumably because they couldn't get certain composers back. You have stuff like the amazing triple-part track that plays in the Kamurocho Hills segment, Rebellious Phase which is decent, and the randomly amazing Break Off. Still a crime Evil Itself was snubbed like that smh.

>Unfortunately, like with most aspects, Yakuza 2 does everything the first game did better. Still though, some quality tracks here. Yakuza 1 doesn't have too much to work with, but it still does utilize its few track slots well. From long-standing iconic tracks like Receive You, to Funk Goes On, and even the off B-side tracks like Singin' Bass, there really isn't a miss in here, just moreso a lack of super standout tracks. There's still quite a few to love despite that, of course.

>kiwami 1 ost snorkkkkkk mimimimimimimim snorkkkkkk mimim Alright I'm exaggerating, but I still think it's pretty weak in comparison to the rest. There's a lot of tracks that just feel kinda butchered to me? And it's not like the new tracks are particularly standout or anything. The tracks that do work are genuinely really good: Ideal For Violence is uhhhh perfect, Get Over It is a really strong long battle theme, Pray Me ~Revive~ is on par, if not arguably better than the original, and For Whose Sake Kiwami matches the sorrow of the original pretty well. But then you have stuff like Funk Goes On 極 which feels weirdly weak, Receive You the madtype which feels sorely outclassed by like, every single other Majima Receive You, and what would be arguably the strongest track, Receive You Reborn, doesn't even show up outside of Japanese versions. Kiwami isn't all bad, hell, there are some really good standouts here, but it just can't really compare to the rest in my eyes.

>Infinite Wealth sits in haven't listened enough of solely because I haven't finished the game and thus haven't touched any track past Kooky (UPDATE: now any track past Impregnable Triangle. The cutscene tracks, the generic battle themes, the boss themes, the B-sides, they're all so excellent. This inadvertently made 7's OST worse for me because of how much better it handles the techno.

Schedule

I work a few different freelance jobs and so my schedule is constantly in flux. I usually stream weekday at 11:00 AM or 12:00 PM in the EST/EDT timezone. I'll attach my weekly schedule for the current week below:

Content I Stream/Create

I usually stream otome visual novels or joseimuke mobile games. Some of my favorites are Ensemble Stars!! Basic and Music, Bandori, Taisho x Alice, Tears of Themis, Hatoful Boyfriend, and BUSTAFELLOWS.

Sometimes I'll stream variety content such as JRPGs, scuffed karaoke (yes it is always scuffed lol), baking or decorating desserts (rare because this is messy and requires lots of planning!), crocheting, and cozy chatting content. I like to experiment with my content when I have more time in my schedule!

I'm currently working on a larger video project where I summarize the entirety of the Ensemble Stars story backlog and lore on YouTube. The series is still very much a work in progress but I do have a livestream VOD where I explained some basics about the game universe and characters which you can watch here:

I also really love music! I try to hold karaokes as much as I can and I've recently start recording covers songs! You can check out my first cover song below. It would mean a lot to me if you gave it a like as well!

Other than that I do a bit of voice acting, sometimes while I'm playing VNs I'll even try to voice over the characters. But mostly I just record short voice clips and post them to YouTube and TikTok.

Now that I have this page I hope to post some exclusive Tumblr content such as video scripts for my YouTube videos and reviews for games, animes, mangas, and novels! I'll link back to some of those posts when I do create them.

This is turning into Six Degrees of SPN, the music edition, but Hayden is seriously sweet and funny and you should check him out!) As usual, Paul Caarella will probably do two shows on Wednesday and two shows on Friday, but he has not yet posted the links to those shows. Finally, Sun Spin (Michael Rosenbaum and Rob Danson) will have a StageIt concert on Saturday.

-Pepper's a smoker, and she does it more often when she's stressed out, causing the icky smell when she's nervous. She tries not to when Vinnie's around, because he has asthma.

-As stated in the hc before, Vinnie has asthma. He has a bad habit of forgetting to use his inhaler(s), which has led to plenty of asthma attacks, usually caused by overexerting himself while dancing. Russell always carries an extra, emergency inhaler for him, and he keeps a "make sure Vinnie uses his inhaler" checkbox on his checklist.(and yes, he does call him every morning to remind him.)

-Sunil likes to wear dresses, skirts, makeup, etc. He simply likes to feel pretty sometimes, and he's comfortable enough in his masculinity to do so without shame. Zoe absolutely loves to give him tips on outfits and makeup, and they've become super close because of it.

-Russell has a super long playlist consisting of only folk music. He plays it when he does deep cleaning in his house.

-Out of all the movies they've watched together, Vinnie and Sunil's favorite is 'Killer Klowns From Outer Space'. They can oftentimes be heard quoting the movie. ("ANOTHER DOOR!?") Vinnie's favorite Klown is Shorty, and Sunil's favorite is Rudy. They watch it every Halloween as tradition.

-Minka is an absolute indestructible force in laser tag. Not even Russell's strategic plans are enough to defeat her. If they're playing in teams, everyone tries to convince her to be on their side, but if they're playing solo? Every single person is teaming up against her(they rarely succeed)

-Vinnie has a few piercings; he has a labret, tongue, both nostrils, and multiple ear piercings (double helix and a conch on his left ear and an industrial on the right). His jewelry is mostly green, black and silver. Penny has a septum piercing, and she wears a lot of super cute jewelry on it, mostly clickers. Zoe has a navel piercing. Her favorite jewelry is silver with a baby blue gemstone in it. (This is definitely projection bc I have a lil bit of a piercing addiction bUT-)

-Pepper has a playlist full of the most horrendous songs known to man. Half of them aren't even songs, they're just voice clips of some guy screaming with faint music in the background. After many times torturing the others with this, she's lost access to the AUX cord.

-Yes, Penny does listen to upbeat, cute pop music a lot. But she's also a huge fan of hard rock and other similar genres. She's also capable of screaming, which shocked everyone during karaoke night, because she usually defaults to softer music out of fear of judgment.

-Adding onto the hc above, I firmly believe that Minka, Vinnie and Sunil would also listen to similar ish music.(once I figure out specifics I'll elaborate further)

-Every year, they go to the local fair. Russell and Sunil spend a lot of time looking at the clothes and crafts at booths, Pepper spends too much money on fair games, Penny gets emotionally attached to every farm animal she sees, Zoe's probably flirting back and forth with some guy at one of the food stands, and both Minka and Vinnie have whiplash from being tossed around violently on some ride that should've been shut down for safety violations. It's absolutely chaotic, and they always have the best time.(I might eventually do a full headcanon post for this one, or even write a short fanfic. Depends on inspiration i guess)

Zoe will video chat people in the middle of the night just to gossip or something, but no one's ever doing anything normal when they pick up. She's witnessed so much concerning and potentially illegal stuff while on these calls, but she's genuinely so unfazed at this point that it doesn't register as concerning anymore. Vinnie just burned his eyebrows off because he tried to bleach them? That's normal. Minka just stole a street sign for some abstract art project? Completely fine.

Rookie Girl Groups to Watch in 2022

CSR - CSR is a seven member girl group made up of girls born in 2015 under POPMUSIC entertainment that debuted in July of this year. Their concept is a breath of fresh air and reminiscent of Lovelyz and GFriend! Their debut song is "Pop? Pop!" and features a fresh, age-appropriate concept, which I know I can appreciate. I would recommend that anyone wishing to get into the group check out their video series on 1theK called "The First Judgement." It showcases their personalities and talents really well!

Lapillus - Lapillus is a six member girl group under MLD Entertainment that debuted in June of this year with "Hit Ya!" You might recognize member Shana from Girls Planet 999, and Chanty has become well-known for being the first Filipino-Argentinian Kpop idol! I would personally recommend this performance of "Queendom" for those who don't love their debut title track. Although I don't trust MLD as far as I can throw them, I'm really hoping for the best for these girls.

IRRIS - Anyone who knows me knows that I love IRRIS and I'm doing my best to make everyone else love them too. IRRIS is a four member girl group under JUSTICE RECORDS that debuted with "Wanna Know" in July of this year. Most recently they released a music video for their b-side (and my favorite song of theirs) "Stay With Me" and it seems like they'll be releasing a photo book as well. If you want to know more about them, you can check out my spotlight post. Their Broken Karaoke video is also a great way to see their fun personalities!

H1-KEY - H1-KEY is a four member girl group under Grandline Group that debuted with their song "Athletic Girl" in January of this year. They have a girl crush concept and their debut song is everything sassy that I've been wanting to get from BlackPink but just haven't. Most recently, they came back with their summer track "Run" with a more bright and summery concept that still kept some of the sass and style of their debut. You might recognize member Riina from Produce 48. I would highly recommend following their YouTube channel, where they post content (mostly with English subs!) like their LA Vlog that made me absolutely fall in love with them!

mimiirose - mimiirose is a five member girl group under Yes Im Entertainment that just debuted with their title track "Rose." Currently only the half mv is out, the full mv will be released later but they gave a full performance of "Rose" during their debut showcase, as well as performing their two b-sides "LuLuLu" and "Kill Me More." Member Yoon Jia was a contestant on Girls Planet 999, and maknae Seo Yunju was part of the predebut line-up for bugAboo. I love their debut mini album and I'm looking forward to seeing even more from this group!

ILY:1 - ILY:1 is a six member girl group under FCENM Entertainment that debuted with their title track "Love In Bloom" in April of this year. If you like Oh My Girl, WJSN, fromis_9, or GFriend, then you'll definitely love this group! Most recently, they came back with their song "Que Sera Sera" in July, a perfectly bright and cute summer song. You might recognize members Hana, Ara, Rona, and Ririka from Girls Planet 999. Ririka was also part of Nizi Project season 1. I would recommend that anyone wanting to fall in love with this group watch their interview with ReacttotheK and their pre-debut reality show ILY:0.

CLASS:y - CLASS:y is a seven member girl group that was made and debuted through the show My Teenage Girl. They made their official debut in May of this year with their title track "Shut Down" and then immediately released another mini album with the title track "Classy" a few weeks later. It looks like they have a fun teen crush concept, as their debut music video features them fighting zombies and their music videos feature bright colors. It's pretty easy to learn more about this group since you can watch My Teenage Girl, and they've also appeared on some variety shows like Weekly Idol. Their songs are all really enjoyable, give them a listen!

BeautyBox - BeautyBox is a six member girl group under BY-U Entertainment that made their debut with the song "Rat A Tat" in September of 2021. They are a multi-national group with members from Korea, Thailand, Vietnam, and Japan. Most recently they made a comeback with the absolute bop "Boggle Boggle" and they released an English version of their debut song "Rat A Tat." They have a ton of content about the members on their YouTube channel, so it's not hard to learn about and fall in love with the members! I really hope everyone will join me in stanning!

ICHILLIN' - ICHILLIN' is a six member girl group under KM Entertainment that debuted in September of 2021 with their title track "GOT'YA." Since then, they have had comebacks with "Play Hide & Seek" and "Fresh," and they are rapidly improving with every comeback. They were originally seven members, but unfortunately, member Sohee recently left the group due to personal reasons. If you would like to learn more about them, they release a lot of covers and content on their YouTube channel. Their music is very fun and full of energy, if you enjoy groups like Weekly, Pristin, or Woo!Ah! I think you'll love this group!

Rocking Doll - Rocking Doll is a four member girl group under SRP Entertainment that debuted with their self titled single "Rocking Doll" in December of 2021. Since then, they've been uploading and releasing music and content nonstop. Most recently, they had a comeback with "Survive." As someone who has been keeping an eye on their journey, it's definitely their best produced song yet. Coming from a small, brand new company, it seems like their CEO is doing her best to promote the girls and I can really appreciate that! They post a lot of different content on their YouTube channel, so that's the best way to get to know the girls. If you like Alexa's concept, you'll definitely like Rocking Doll!

We;Na - We;Na is a four member girl group under SHINE E&M that just debuted with their song "Like Psycho." Unlike the title suggests, the song is actually super fun and upbeat, the chorus is catchy, and the dance is so much fun that I'm surprised they haven't gone viral with it yet. Seriously, if you're one of the people who misses fun and silly girl group concepts, you won't regret giving them a listen!

SKYLE - SKYLE is a four member girl group under Good Luck Entertainment that debuted with “Fly Up High” in August of 2021. They received some attention during their debut despite being from a small company, but unfortunately it was all because of fans claiming they were copying BlackPink and Everglow with their girl crush concept. Shortly after their debut, they made a music video for their b-side “Da Da Da” which I personally love (and think they should have made the title track to avoid plagiarism claims). They also released an adorable Christmas song called “Our Christmas” before not making any music for a while and releasing some covers and videos on their YouTube channel. Finally, they recently they came back with “Bye Bye Bye” and I absolutely ADORE this song. Also, their company is great at making low-budget music videos look great and work well with the song. Honestly, this group has a lot of potential and I’m really hoping they begin to get more recognition!

bugAboo - bugAboo is a six member girl group under A Team Entertainment that debuted in October of 2021 with their self-titled track “bugAboo” that featured a fun twist on the girl crush concept and featured the girls as ghost busters! Some of the members might look familiar, as Choyeon and Eunchae were both on Produce 48. Recently they had a comeback with “Pop,” another bright teen crush concept kind of like Weki Meki’s early concept. If you want to learn more about the members, they have a series they release called “Discover the Members’ Chemistry” on their YouTube channel that I would recommend, it’s super well edited!

Of course, I can’t leave out the rookies that we all know about this year. I don’t need to introduce them, you all know them, but these groups are KILLING the game and they deserve a mention!

NewJeans - If you haven’t heard “Hype Boy” or “Attention” by now, you’re definitely not on TikTok. NewJeans is a five member girl group under ADOR, a subsidiary of HYBE, and they went super viral before they even debuted. Then, we got their debut with “Cookie” and well.... Considering the members ages, it’s uncomfortable. Personally, since I’m an adult, I won’t be comfortable stanning them with the current circumstances, but it’s undeniable that they have taken the internet by storm and they will be HUGE in the future.

NMIXX - NMIXX is a seven member girl group under JYPE that debuted in February with “o.o” which was... Something, for sure. I feel like there’s a few good songs in there somewhere, but they were all shoved together and in doing so the members’ talents were buried. However! They have done some incredible covers AND they’ll be having a comeback soon with “Dice” so I’m hoping the members will be able to shine!

VIVIZ - Former GFriend members SinB, Eunha, and Umji made their debut again this year as the three member girl group VIVIZ with their title track “Bop Bop” and recently went on Queendom and came back with “Loveade.”

Kep1er - Kep1er is a temporary group formed through the survival show Girls Planet 999. They made their debut with “WA DA DA” and the girls don’t seem to have gotten any rest since then, as they participated in Queendom, came back with “Up,” and have been travelling around to multiple international Kpop concerts, such as KCON. They even made a Japanese debut with “Wing Wing.” Please let them rest, WakeOne.

LE SSERAFIM - We all know LE SSERAFIM, it’s impossible not to know them with everything that has happened and how viral their debut song “Fearless” went. With former IZ*ONE members Sakura and Chaewon and popular Produce 48 contestant Yunjin, it would be very hard for them not to succeed. They are a now five member girl group under HYBE, if you somehow didn’t know. There’s no denying that they’re going to play a huge roll in Kpop from here on out.

Billlie - I honestly think most international fans know Billlie by now, with Tsuki going viral every time she blinks and their songs going viral on TikTok, but for anyone who doesn’t know, Billlie is a seven member girl group under Mystic Entertainment that debuted in November of 2021 with “GingaMingaYo (the strange world)” and dragged me right back into being in love with Kpop by reminding me what I love about it. This is to say that they are incredible. Most recently, they had a comeback with “Ring My Bell (what a wonderful world)” and introduced us to a whole new rock concept from them!

LIGHTSUM - Technically, LIGHTSUM is a year old now, but I don’t think they get as much attention as they deserve so I’m including them. LIGHTSUM is an eight member girl group under CUBE (unfortunately) that debuted in June of 2021 with “Vanilla.” They have an incredible line-up, with Chowon, Nayoung, and Yujeong from Produce 48 and Juhyeon from The Unit as part of the group. While you’ve probably heard of them, I hope you’ll actually give them a good listen and watch their stages: they’re incredibly talented and unfortunately seem to get brushed to the side. They’ve had comebacks with “Vivace” and “Alive” as of late, and if there’s one song you’ll listen to by them, check out “Alive” I promise you’ll enjoy it!

XG - So XG is technically a global Japanese girl group, since all of the members are Japanese. However, since they've been promoting in Korea and I love their songs, I decided to include them. XG is a seven member girl group that debuted with their song "Tippy-Toes" in March and recently went viral with their song "Mascara" blowing up on social media. They upload behind the scenes videos and covers on their YouTube channel if you'd like to learn more about them!

It was somewhat of an ethereal feeling. Jane was at peace with herself; comfortable, thriving and quite possibly, retired if she looked too close. There were hearts in front of her eyes and they bloomed, literally; all the pink and orange flushing and retracting and the hollow sound of music in the background and a smell of perfume and sweat made it even better. Vaguely, she could even smell incense if she stuck her nose out and observed the chaos from afar.

There were people in front of her, discussing everything with overflowing pots of green, red and dark brown; likely travelling adventurers in a dingy tavern. The dim lighting made it hard for her to see and incredibly sensitive to everything else and Jane was certain the entire room was titled at an odd angle.

The only upside being, of course, the irking pain in her stomach was gone. Or lungs. Or chest. Somewhere. It was gone and she couldn't be more happier, swimming in a pool of ethereal solitude and perhaps, if she managed to listen closely - past the adventurers having their raggedy conversations, she could hear a choir of Angels sing. A choir of Angels, yes. They were so good, so unabashedly themselves and at the same time, possessing a voice that could only rival the Gods of singing themselves.

All the clinking, all the talking - it was all just fuzzy noise to her ears. Jane was a lot more interested in the floating hearts at the top and something bobbing at her, up and down. Next to her was a friend, clearly and they were holding her hand. For a long time, Jane's brain stopped entirely, with time moving so slow she could count the seconds passing by.

And when she smiled, she was happy. She meant it.

Donahue's was packed that Valentine's Day.

"Still baked?" Bryce chuckled, as he brought Sienna drinks. "Got you your orange soda vodka. Or something. I don't really get how they can just add a bunch of fruit syrup and call it a drink."

"Because it is that good! And we forgive them for it." Sienna said, taking a long sip of her drink. She turned to her right. "You okay, pal?"

"Too -- bright-- ngh-" Jane put her head down.

"Poor thing." Sienna shook her head. "Anxiety can be such a pain. And also, can we ask these -- karaoke people to turn it down a notch?"

"They're drunk and having a good time."

"They're our friends."

"Exactly. And if we get it on video, it would be even more awesome."

"You're sick. Let's do it."

Across the bar, Jackie, Elijah and Aurora had their arms around each other surrounding a poor microphone. All three of them had enough drinks for a lifetime and they were making a complete fool of themselves. And naturally, Sienna and Bryce just had to take a video of it.

You didn't get many opportunities to see Aurora and Jackie out of all of them, letting absolutely loose. It was equally wild to see Elijah - a generally quiet and wholesome human being, belt out to explicit song lyrics and hit the high notes with such enthusiasm that he was clearly missing all the other things, like say, stay on the beat for instance.

Valentine's Day was a lot more fun with friends and especially fun if one half of them is too drunk to function, one sixth of them is too high to even move and one third of them sought out pleasure from video-taping them all and showing off their high alcohol tolerance.

And just to throw a massive wrench in their plans, because life really liked that sort of thing, the doors opened and in squeezed (past the crowds of sweaty people dancing) a very dishevelled Ethan Ramsey - colleague to some, boss to others and probably one of the most frightening people to walk the Earth.

"What can I get you, bud?" Reggie asked him. "We're all out of your scotch, by the way."

"I'll take a ginger ale, then."

"All right. Not in the mood for drinking?"

"I've got to drive back home."

"Well if you're the designated driver, you better control your rag-tag team hogging the karaoke machine. The people are upset." Reggie chuckled. "Like the decor?"

"An overly excessive amount of heart-shaped balloons. What's not to like? You didn't miss a spot at all."

"You seem oddly cheerful, Doc. Let me guess, you're meeting someone."

Reggie handed him the tall glass of ginger ale.

"Just -- a person."

"A person? Hm."

"It's nothing. Nothing. I believe they're running late."

"Well, if I ever see a person somewhere, I'll send them over."

Jane's limbs were more relaxed than anything else. Her tall stature coiled around the table; a happy and content snake. All her anxieties faded away for just a minute. Death, the slow passage of time, the beeping of the hospital monitors… it was all just but a faded thought; an irking memory like the balloons of red and green floating above her head, dispersing a wide array of even more colours. Whatever happened, for the last month or so, it was nothing. It felt like nothing. No cold sweats, no filled-up stomach - in fact, she was hungry.

The adventurers all turned into happy people. Happy people with happy faces and their normal expressions twisted and distorted to look like they smiled so much. Her jaws hurt from just looking up and for the first time ever, she learned what love and joy felt like. Comfort. Copious amounts of it.

Her heart didn't race fifteen thousand kilometres a second and her body didn't throw itself out of bed everyday. Instead, the slow voices slowed down. They were almost tuned out; all the incessant chattering, upsetting people talking about upsetting things, all the praises, the sounds and tears - it felt great. A feeling so hollow she didn't want it to go away.

"Janeeeeee--" someone called her name. She squinted her eyes at the light and looked, but was somehow a little unresponsive. She nodded, giving him a slight hum. It was a him.

Ah. Life. For a moment, Jane learned to let go of her stress. There was nothing holding her back; just her and the wondrous world with no barrier between.

"Jane, are you quite all right?" Ethan asked, "Is it the prescription drugs?"

"Mm-hghhh--" she said.

"You should get home," he said.

"Nuh-- 's fine -- better than anythinnggg"

Ethan wasn't sure what she was referring to.

"Colours-- aren't they pretty?"

"They're very pretty, yes. How long has it been?"

"A -- couple of minus. Minutes- minuten, Minutae. Latin. I learned Latin at school -- cuz it was -- the -- y'know, in the history books and d'you know that there was a library in-- Alex-- Alexa -- Alexandria, that burned down?"

It is likely she was past her first hour upon consumption. Still, it baffled Ethan that her friends would bring her here. Or maybe, she insisted. Perhaps she was so tuned to it that nothing surprised her anymore. That she was willing to take risks just so she didn't have to ruin people's Valentine's Day. At least, he could only gather so much inference at face value.

Maybe he could keep her company.

"-- why are you -- doing? Existence…"

"Well, I'm waiting for someone."

"Ahh-- a friend. Amica. Vriend. Ami…"

"Though I believe she isn't going to come. It is a tad bit late."

"Yes -- late--"

"-- she was this person I was introduced to, when we both met at a conference. She expressed interest and I accepted it. She's in Boston for a while and she said she'd show up for a quick bite to eat and chat. How -- wickedly coincidental that the timelines overlapped to the most wretched holiday on Earth? Valentine's Day--" he scoffed, while simultaneously info-dumping on her..

"Sha-ba-da-ca feel good-- hmm hmm hmm."

"And maybe it was a mistake. Our relationship was strictly professional, until a fateful night at the balcony of our living quarters. I should've said no, but it is this irking temptation to do a thing. Feeling something new."

"Feeling new- I get that, hm hm. Totally validzhh-- valid yes."

"Perhaps I should've stopped it then and there. Clearly it was a short-lived one-night thing. Neither of us spoke the next morning and only days later on the plane, did we bring it up to each other. . ."

Jane was clearly not paying attention to anything he was saying. In fact, speech became distorted, slowly blending in with the other noises. What she could hear were her own thoughts. It was almost as if she had an internal echo in her head - sort of conjoining two absolutely dissimilar things together. Chessboard. Rotating planes. Ten-foot tall statues. The Cambrian Explosion. Proportionality constants. Graphic templates. Scarlet hair. Red.. lots and lots of red..

Delirium was blissful.

And then, it hit her out of nowhere.

"Nobody exists."

She looked around. What do you mean?

"Nobody truly exists if you think about it.. thermo-setting plastics, pilgrimages to Benares.."

She observed her own hands, all jiggly and almost fluid. It has to wear off, it must be wearing off..

The glass on her table that was sparkly and yellow was almost taunting her. The bubbles slowly evaporating, in the most excruciating painful way. Her head spun, limbs simultaneously weak and strong - weak enough to fracture under a small impact and yet strong enough to lift the whole table off.

The Angelic choir had stopped. Panic overwhelmed her, but it simply wasn't enough to put her mind in overdrive. Though the words were clear and the objects were significantly saturated, she could feel everything around her change. As if the world was a messy blurb of an apocalypse, with grey undertones sometimes sticking out like zaps of lightning.

What is love?

What were these people truly celebrating? Who were these Vikings who clinked their drinks? Who were those juvenile teens that kissed each other - they could also be eating each other's faces and practicing discreet cannibalism. Why did it drive people nuts? And most importantly, why was the strange man in front of her crying, pouring his heart out about a woman who'd stood him up? It all felt so strange - all the mixed up feeling of home, loss, grief - blurring into something so unspeakably demonic that even Satan would think twice about unleashing it onto a pile of humans.

Jane couldn't help but continue eating the pack of peanuts on the table. Every swallow hurt her throat; as if a part of her existed in that peanut that was swallowed - a choking feeling taking her over. But she couldn't stop eating. It was a new kind of hunger.

Do these people feel hungry for love the same way I do with these peas?

". . Anyway, I--"

"Oh hello, Doctor Ramsey! Lovely surprise!"

"Erm, yes. I'm just taking my leave. It is late, isn't it?"

"Whaddaya mean, iz - only like.. three?" Elijah sniffed at the clock.

"He's going to need one hell of a spinach milkshake." Ethan joked, an attempt at getting along with Jane's friends. "It's twelve, Elijah."

"Twelve? That's funny--"

"Well, if you can excuse us, we're going to have to lug four people back home." Bryce said, throwing Jackie's left arm around him and supporting Aurora with his right. Sienna helped Elijah with his wheelchair, ready to carry on Jane's lanky weight as well.

"You're hardly in any shape to do this - maybe I should help--"

"Oh no Doctor Ramsey, it is perfectly fine! We'll just have to get a taxi and--"

"I've got my car right here--"

"Maybe you can help us deal with Jane?" Bryce let out a little chuckle. "I can get these three back home. If that's all right?"

Of course, it was too much to expect from a cab to house all six of them inside.

"Oh -- of course. No trouble at all."

There was a mild difference between taking three drunk medical residents and one unnervingly quiet Jane. Because being loud didn't concern Ethan. He'd seen his fair share of uncomfortable people, but knowing that they were loud couple of people made it easy for him to deal with it.

There was something dangerously frightening about a really really quiet doctor, seatbelted right next to him as he drove across the streets of Boston. It was akin to a horror movie concept, where you had the central protagonist expecting nothing, just driving through the night under the streetlights with a date on Valentine's Day, except that date is a murderous serial killer who'd chop his body up into pieces, stuff him in the car and make it straight for the border.

Except Jane wasn't that frightening. At least to her. She had her cheek pressed to the window, watching the streetlights with pure awe and the little accentuated shops that made it all worth it. The hearts followed her everywhere - sort of hovering above her like a cartoon character.

"I can't believe it." Ethan made a half-hearted attempt at a conversation. "I thought -- y'know there'd be something out there.. well, that's how it is, you see."

"You're disappointed because you missed out on an opportunity with someone who is definitely good-looking and now this is going straight into your self-doubt and further putting your confidence in jeopardy. You believe you deserve nice things, but at the same time, willing to begrudgingly accept whatever that is presented to you. However you firmly want nice things. Food and wine. Ethan was speechless for a moment. He turned around, but Jane had turned around to watch a butcher shop that had just passed by.

"Sorry -- I think I'm -- sort of getting -- a bit -- normal-- forgive me--"

"What -- do you exactly mean by what "everyone else thinks should matter to me"?"

"I think you already know the answer and you're just -- eh, oh look - that's the bookshop from Alexandria, right? Yknow the one that burned down a couple of weeks ago. Tch. Shows a lot about how society just ends up burning a bunch of books in retaliation and blarughhh---"

Jane sniffed, rubbing her eyes with the back of her wrist.

"Am I -- here?"

"Yes, you are here. Just sleep it off?"

"Yeah, yeah -- that's what the doctor ordered. Yknow, because I am a doctor. Ha. No. There's this psych guy --" and that was the end of the sentence.

Ethan parked along the side of the pavement for her to get down from the vehicle. Jane gave him a dazed salute, took his hands in hers and made some sort of an enclosed fist with it. She shook it; a tight smile here and another nod there, unbuckled her seatbelt and went on her own way.

Differentiate between what matters to you and what everyone else thinks should matter to you was arguably, a powerful sentence. Something that was so sentient, philosophical and true and at the same time, something that was straight out of a colleague of his, who was on prescription marijuana, which was equally unexpected.

He just wished it weren't true.

A/N: this was definitely inspired by that one scene from B99 where Rosa gets really high and she eats potato chips with Scully - ugh top tier comedy gold right there.

In my HC, Jane gets anti-depressants and prescription marijuana to deal with her depression and anxiety, post the hospital attack. The marijuana is just for a short period of a couple of months, just so she can heal a little in small doses.

I hope you enjoyed this! Honestly I was really motivated to write something silly and humorous for a while. This is also not edited, so you can expect some blasphemous grammatical errors here and there.

Ok time for a spicy one. Meta knight / Susie for the bingo

So I may or may not have lost the bingo template, but I promised I would answer all the asks so instead you just get the big ramble about the duos instead of that + the bingo board. Hopefully that's good enough? Either way it's all below the cut because wow this got LONG

To get some context out of the way I wanna clarify that I personally see Kirby “ages” as brackets moreso than concrete numbers— alien biology so some species live longer or mentally age nonlinearly and also there’s time travel and whatever. Very hand-wavey. That being said, Susie imo is young adult, 20s or early 30s, while Meta Knight is older adult, 50s-60s. In essence, Meta Knight is the same age as her dad (that’s important for later)

From her end, her attachment and obsession with him is just. Daddy Issues extraordinaire. He’s a proxy that she’s projecting her own mess onto. He’s deindividualized (metaphorically and literally) because to her his mere archetypical existence is more important than anything about his actual personhood. What’s important here is the IDEA of Meta Knight, and what he represents to her as a well respected older man, especially one that a child (Kirby) cares deeply about. She’s frustrated and feeling helpless and Meta Knight just so happens to be the perfect geriatric punching bag. He’s her emotional baggage claim.

To me it’s all about power dynamics— she tries to get power over him because he symbolizes, to her, everything she doesn’t have any control over in her own life, and triumph over one shows triumph over the other: Award for the galaxy’s worst coping mechanism.

Meta Knight time. Slight tangent here to mention that personally I think mechanization was just kinda slapping robot armor and mind control helmets on stuff and didn’t involve any violence or surgery because this a video game series for children and I don’t feel comfortable casually talking about non-consensual medical procedures in this kinda context. Anyway. Meta Knight wasn’t hurt or irreparably traumatized by the whole ordeal, but he did experience his absolute worst nightmare: he was humiliated. To lose a fight so quickly, to be controlled, and to not be strong enough to save himself or Kirby? That embarrasses him so deeply it’s almost unbearable, and it’s a feeling he’s not really equipped to properly deal with.

I think Meta Knight’s whole opinion about her as a person is kinda tainted by that. To admit that she makes him uncomfortable or that he hates her for humiliating him is, in a way, a direct acknowledgement of the fact that he lost. To make explicit his thoughts about her is to legitimize the power she has and continues to have over him, physically or mentally. Meta Knight is not the kind of guy to be “vulnerable” and hasn’t felt the full force of a human emotion since ‘86, so to stand around and admit that not only was he emotionally hurt and embarrassed, but to feel that way because of a cute girl half his age who loves ice cream and karaoke and can’t even fight without technology is so insulting to his ego that it’s inconceivable. Meta Knight could easily get over it, but to do that he has to acknowledge the depth of how she made him feel and he isn’t willing to do that on his own, so instead it just sits there and simmers. The two of them are imo quite alike in their inability to acknowledge or process literally any emotion they don’t like (which is almost all of them) and also they’re so, so, so incredibly petty oh my god.

Now back to Susie. In the robobot novel there’s this little detail where after she takes the walk of shame to castle ddd after the defeat of star dream, she runs into meta knight and immediately straightens up, getting flustered and very obviously caring what he thinks about her despite pretending she’s self-assured and egotistical not two minutes before. Personally I cherry-picked this little scene from the novel as basically being how I see them post-Robobot. She lost her chance with her dad, and now there’s this unspoken question and crushing grief dangling over her head that she cannot and will not deal with, so the unresolved need for patriarch approval just kinda sliiiiiiiides onto Meta Knight. She doesn’t seem him as a fatherly figure in any way, but she’s conflating his existence as an older well respected man as being close enough. She desperately craves his approval but is also trying to prove she doesn’t need it. He’s openly hostile but trying to play it cool because he’s still in denial about the situation affecting him in any way.

And the real kicker, the real thing that makes this so juicy to me, is that they’ve never actually had a real proper conversation. Each one is plastering the other’s face onto what basically boils down to their own emotional issues. Despite occupying each other’s thoughts (which they both hate) they don’t really know each other at all. They have the built up versions of each other bouncing around in their heads but if pressed could not say much of anything substantial about the other. They think they know each other— but do they?? (No, the answer is not even a little). I think once they get over their (gestures vaguely) Everything they can start to build a friendship / aquaintanceship / whatever on more amicable or at least less hostile terms, but I have not given a single thought to what that would actually look like
