Foot Clan AU Casey and Karai - [🏒] our muses play a game of ice hockey on a frozen lake
| SEND AN EMOJI FOR A STARTER ! ↳ winter season & holiday based
Karai, was the first one to make her way into the small cabin. Slipping through the now open door back, pressed to old splinter wooden walls. Mask covering part of her face. As she narrowed her gaze searching out into the deep dark sea of darkness in the house. Long ago left abandoned or to seem that way. It now severed as a safe house. Or was meant to be that way. Leaving the foot wasn't really an option. There was only one way you got to leave the clan. Through death. Either by giving it for the honor of the foot. Or by having it taken when you lost that honor. Which was exactly what brought Karai here today.
Ears trained on the silence of the still old house, short of small sounds of the house simply settling. Pipes hidden away behind wood and insulation creaked. As Karai made her steps lighter than a feather moving across egg shells. Near about holding her breath in as she made her way through the house. Her eyes scanning her surroundings as she made her way through the empty house. But it was better to check. More to make sure the place truly was empty. There was evidence of someone being here not long ago at best. Could down water droplets from the coffee pot and the smallest specks of a Ramen season packet on the counter. But it seemed that was all the evidence left behind. Karai wondered if it was pure luck at that.
Soon ease her walk into a more casual stroll. Not minding how each step made the old wooden floor planks squeak with each step she took forward. Clicking her tongue against her teeth annoying because they got here to late. They hit this spot but clearly ran off. And she didn't have much to work with to prevent the trail going cold. Walking over to the window as she peered out there was snow covering the ground, may be able to find the faint evidence of foot prints? She thought to herself before she drifted her attention to the near by lake and gave a roll of her eyes. "Casey"
Pivoting on her heels as she made her way out and off to the frozen over lake she could feel the vine in her head starting pulsate. Fingers starting to curl in towards the palms of her hands as she makes her way over to the froze lake finding her brother out there. "Casey!" She yells as she removes the mask from her face throwing it down into the fresh powered of snow. "We are meant to be tracking down a deserter not playing on the ice." She spoke up managing to keep her tone far more even this time around as she spoke. Cocking her hip to the side as she folded her arms over the front of her chest. "Not practicing trick shots." She expresses clearly unimpressed in the moment. And taking out her annoyance of the cold trail on her 'older' brother who didn't seem to care as much as he should about this whole mission.
If anything Casey seemed to be more enjoying that they were so far away from home. Having be trailing after the traitor far into New Hampton. Karai on the other hand has desired so strongly to be given the mission. After all she was planed to wear the Kuro kabuto one day so how best to make it clear she was next in line then to show any one who dared to leave could? She stepped on the ice testing it a moment should be safe if Casey was skating out on it. It was fairly slick but she was able to balance and slipped out and make her way next to her brother. Slightly annoyed by how he seemed the full opposite her and not taking it serious in the slightest. "You know father isn't going to care how many pucks you slam into that net compared to you being the reason we lost track of them." She goes and used their father's ever threatening aura as a way to get through to Casey.
Before she sighed and looked over to the safe house. Lips pursing a bit as she found it in her to suppress the need to shiver. Even with her armor the icy chill of the air, only colder on top the lake was seeping into through the plates of steel. "Not that is matters this was a bust, they left a good time ago. Made it more a pit stop more than anything." She expressed her annoyance with a huff. They weren't the first to try and leave after all. And in some attempt to extend help to those who tried a sort of trail had been left behind for other foot soldiers. Of course none truly made it all the way clear. Least that was what they were always been told. Which only set more pressure on to Karai's shoulders. If she were to be the first to allow one to slip away for good? Hell what ever her father did wouldn't compare to the shame she would have to carry despite being the new head of the clan. No one would take her serious. She had always known that this was where her path was leading up too. All the harsh training everything. She was being made out to be refined into the perfect foot ninja, nothing less would be able to stand at the head after all.
As he mind was lost in that thought the sound of blades on ice was not helping her as she reached out and near about tore Casey's hockey stick out from his grip. "Would you cut it out!" She snaps bearing her teeth at him. "What about any of this are you not understanding! We are after a deserter! We are on a mission to take blood! That is the only. ONLY" she repeated the word as she pointed a finger towards Casey as if that would somehow get it through his damn thick skull. "Way anyone is allowed to leave our clan Casey! So stop screwing around! And you wonder why father keeps looking at you like you nothing but a fucking joke!"
The venom in her words were not lost on her but in the moment of anger she couldn't control the lashing her tongue just gave. There may be things she was unaware of but she could see what passed over Casey's eye when she spoke like that. Of course she didn't offer an apology. Simply moving to straight her self as she looked over the hockey stick in her hands now. She let her words hang in the air between them even if she didn't mean it it might not matter. A see decided his hockey stick was more interesting, she really didn't mean that. Casey risked his ass for her often and took more blows for her then any other ninja in the clan ever would. Karai wouldn't be surprised if Casey tried to take blame for this failed mission even. It was just the stress talking. But not Karai talking to express that was the case. Stress or not she couldn't let anything slip through. She set the end of the stick down on the ice and slightly tapped it to the ice a few times.
"I still don't get your obsession with this sport." That was her way of saying she didn't mean it by changing topic. Eyeing the puck she moved to slightly tap the side side with the stick. "hmm slippery." She mused in her observation. Letting her gaze shift to the side to look at Casey trying to read his own expression right now before quickly looking away not sure she really wanted to note any expression her words might have painted on to him just then. "What do you call it? A hat trick?" because she did absorb some of what he rambled on about when it came to the sport. It was her way of saying sorry, a way of saying she didn't mean it. Karai wished deeply she could just do that instead. She handed the stick over towards him.
"Think you can do one?" She offers in a faint challenge her smile a tad more sheepish extending her attempt of peace with the offer. "Eh I need to think about where to check next besides, they have to be moving on foot right now with how the weather is." In case Casey brought up the mission. "besides they can get all the way to the boarder and will still catch them." Will as in both of them. She hopes he understands when she makes the concussion attempt to express it would be both of them. Pulling the hockey stick her way now. "Unless your only talk?" She smirks now "I mean easy to claim you can make all those shots with that big gap tooth mouth of yours, but I bet you crumble under pressure. I bet you couldn't even land a puck to the back of the guys head." She offers knowing Casey? he might actually try knocking the guy they were tracking like that.

Reconnecting to my Inspiration
Lately something I’ve been trying to do as I delve deeper into these revisions for my novel is reconnect with the things that inspired me at first.
Listen, I started this novel seven years ago, back in 2016, so as I’m sure you can imagine there’s a lot about my original vision that I’ve forgotten over the years. Between the simple passage of time, and the continuous voice in my head telling my that my story wasn’t “professional” enough, or “real literature”, the course of the book shifted considerably. I tried to change it so much to fit these lofty ideas of what a book by me should be, that I forgot what it was that I WANTED to write.
And what I want to write is GOOD, but SILLY! Silly at least to the great thinkers of this world who sit in their ivory towers and declare that “The red curtains in that short story must have symbolized something!” (I’m sure you know the kind.) But when I remembered FINALLY or maybe, more like realized for the first time, that I wasn’t writing for them, I was writing for myself and the people who enjoy what I do, a massive weight was lifted from my shoulders and a freedom and excitement to rediscover my story began to set in. But after so long, I was a little lost. I couldn’t remember all the things which had given me my catalyzing thoughts back in high school, or worse, I couldn’t remember the thoughts!
So!
I recently started going back through all the media I could recall influenced or inspired Project Seer (that’s what we’re calling it for now), and dipping my toes back into the world and mind of 16 year old Rachel.
A brief list of said materials I have recently rewatched (or something similar) for this very purpose is as follows:
Yona of the Dawn
The Last Kingdom,
Any lecture on feudalism I can get my hands on,
Miraculous Ladybug (just the new movie for now, we’ll see if I still have the stomach for the show later I suppose),
I JUST started rewatching Kuro Mukuro, which! Let me tell you-- is not at all something I thought I would need to help me write my medieval fantasy novel. It’s a modern mecha anime! With... Aliens?! It’s a little unclear! But the point is, it wasn’t until I actually clicked on that first episode and let it play for a minute that I remembered:
This is the show with a samurai from the sengokujidai as a main character! Feudalism is baked into the essence of the show, as this samurai character lives by his codes and morals, protecting the girl he perceives to be his princess. Another thing! A blue haired girl a little clueless to the absolute danger she has found herself mixed up in, having to constantly be guarded by a boy honoring an oath! Sound familiar?? (Probably not because I haven’t really talked about that aspect of my book yet, but I promise you, it’s in there!) How about inexplicable attraction and helping someone even if you don’t have a good reason why? A strong pining slow burn? Okay, I think you get the picture.
Basically, all that to say-- There is so much to be gained by remembering where your ideas have come from, and by remembering to engage with the things that breed creativity in your soul. For me, the things that do that don’t always come from the most likely of places, clearly, as detailed above. But I’m learning all over not to judge a book by its cover. You never know where inspiration will strike, or what one random line from a book will spark a thought in your head that will fix an entire plot hole! (Thanks, Destroyer by Meg Smitherman!) And finding those things that will continuously inspire you, that lead you in the directions or vibes you want to go is so so SO important.
Don’t lose sight of who you are. Don’t lose sight of what you love. Otherwise you may end up doing a deep dive and reliving your teenage years, (watching a show with a MASSIVE cliff hanger ending but no season three!) like me.
But in all seriousness, this last almost year of my publishing journey has been so inundated with self reflection and discovery, it has been painful. But this is part of it that is actually helping me feel alive again, like myself again. And I’m really, really, REALLY, enjoying it.
It’s making writing fun again.

My Thoughts on the KNB English Dub (Season 2)
if you haven’t seen my thoughts on season 1 yet, here’s a link here!
Taken from my season 1 post:
Of course, I prefer watching sub over dub for anime series, but I’m no stranger to the English VA industry, as I’ve played huge RPG games with fantastic English dub casts! I guess I’m mentioning this here to let you know that I’m quite impartial to the dub vs sub fiasco, and if it sounds good or not I’ll say it as such
- first off: the opening for the winter cup arc is different where they used scenes to indicate the yosen match with seirin instead of showing Kuroko’s ignite pass kai. LOVE this new opening more, it’s way more dynamic and so cool while showing off all of the Seirin members in action instead of just Kuroko???
- KAGAMI sounds so much better in season 2!! omg, he sounds really identical to the sub and I’m living for it god bless, he truly sounds like he hails from america LMAO
- Kuroko REALLY SHINES when he gets super passionate when talking about winning after Imayoshi told him “try again next year” in a nutshell like that GRIT IN THE VOICE CHEF KISS
- can we literally talk about the goldmine of the Seirin team, including the benchers?? THEIR BANTER IS SO UNMATCHED AND HILARIOUS I LITERALLY DAMN NEAR PEED MY PANTS LAUGHING (listen to the dialogues in the background esp when the bench players start saying random shit LMAO)
- shoutout to Furihata, Izuki, and Koganei in the dub 10000000/10
- Teppei and Hyuga get their own honorable mentions because damn they are so damn good in the dubs, their interactions/dialogue/chemistry in the dub is, even dare I say, better than the sub
- I lied, Izuki also gets an honorable mention for his puns, I actually find them so funny, someone help me----????
- I’m literally so glad the dub actually highlights how truly weird Teppei is; most people just completely overlook his actual character because there’s only so much subs can do to convey his weird oddities (aka I’m tired of these Teppei fics misrepresenting and butchering his character 😭)
- I knew GREATNESS was gonna happen when Robbie Daymond was gonna voice Murasakibara; sure it’s not “deep enough” like the sub, but to be fair, the dub’s voice fits his childishness so damn well like the “quadrabrow” line on Kagami still sends me to NO END or when he gets pouty and petulant, the dub nails it 100% “what’s going on with your eyebrows dude? why do they like... split?” when he says “Kuro-chin” WHEN KUROKO MADE THE SHOT PAST HIM, IT SOUNDED SO IDENTICAL AND OMG--? And WHEN HE ANGRILY SAYS “KAGAMI”?? AND WHEN HE GETS MAD IN THE GAME AND PLAYS OFFENSIVE, HE SOUNDS UGH CHEFS KISS DIVINE
- Aomine’s voice is okay, I like it---the dialogue they give him is so fucking funny, this man roasts people while he’s trying to explain what’s happening on the court, i-- (SOUNDS AMAZING when hes on the court esp Seirin vs Touou game)
- MIDORIMA ALSO TRULY IMPROVED HIS DUB PERFORMANCE IN SEASON 2!!! HIM AND TAKAO TOGETHER BANTERING IS ALSO FUNNY AS SHIT IN THE DUB, i literally ASCEND when these two get screentime
- Kise.... kise.... my baby... I’ve grown to have mixed feelings about you in the dub-- one moment, he gives me not enough theatrics and sounds a bit serious at times, the next moment, especially when he’s getting his ass beat by Kasamatsu complaining about something, or when he’s flustered in hearing how Kasamatsu said Seirin was done for in the Touou game, he sounds SUPER GOOD----the pronunciations of the (name)-cchi’s... it hurts every time, but I understand the voice director was trying to adhere to the anglosaxon english pronunciations of the Japanese names (happens to nearly all dubs regardless sadly :((, so I can’t fault the voice actor here) actually, dub Kise gives me more of manga Kise vibes more than anything (the mangaka might favor the dub casting more for Kise in that case) Momoicchi Aominicchi and Akashicchi sound fine though, it’s just Kurokocchi sounds janky
- dub Hanamiya,..... took me by surprise, whoever casted for his dub needs a damn raise... thats all I’ll say before @seijurosempress decides to have any funny ideas about Hanamiya being the “perfect one for me” (i will strangle you)
- dub Hara 14/10, that’s all I’ll say
- dub Imayoshi..... when he gets all low and sinister and schemey, my heart stops, my pants drop, and my breathing stops (.... I wish his voice was deeper...especially when he speaks all politely and cheery normally.......... Just... a bit, please....) -- mixed feelings about him :(( i cant believe I like dub Hanamiya more--
- HELP WHY IS THE DUB FOR RIKO’S DAD MF ZHONGLI AND SHIDO I CANT TAKE THIS MAN SERIOUSLY IM SERIOUSLY LAUGHING
- I’M SO HAPPY WITH DUB SAKURAI, I TRUST GRIFFIN BURNS WITH MY ENTIRE HEART WHEN IT COMES TO PERFORMANCE
- Moriyama sounds great too?? he sounds super good
- Alex deadass just sounds the same I’m shocked LMAO (edit: i searched her seiyuu up, it’s the EXACT SAME VA HOLY SHIT)
- HIMURO’S DUB WHEN HE CALLED OUT “Please stop your deeply-problematic habit” WHEN SHE TRIED TO SMOOCH HIM ON SIGHT HELP THE DUB JUST CALLS IT OUT SO GOOD // his voice is so smooth, elegant, and deep-- when he calls out “Atsushi” in a panic in the game he sounds THE SAME?? EMOTIONAL HIMURO AFTER HE PUNCHES MURASAKIBARA SOUNDS SO GOOD I CANT BREATHE
- YOSEN MEMBERS’ AND THE COACH DUB MWAH THEY’RE SO GOOD (Liu sounds abnormally deep tho wtf but oh well)
- Akashi... I can’t put my finger on him yet? I can’t find the episode where he first debuts in the beginning of the Winter Cup because gogoanime can’t replay those early episodes... and I don’t have netflix... because yeah I don’t have money--BUT ANYWAYS, my opinion of him is currently “inoffensive” but we’ll see in season 3? pssssst if anyone in the US wants to help me out with the netflix plugin.......
- I would just love to add in the appreciation for the translators and localizers for the dub? I know my subtitles near 95% (I kinda have to when I write dialogue for characters), and near all of them are exactly on the money. Sometimes the dub matches the subtitles word for word too which is insanely impressive given the lip flaps and timing of the dialogue---but yeah hats off to the cast who worked on the dub!! We shall see in season 3 and the last game movie (if i can find and access them;;) how the dub performs~~

6 Anime-Style Units I Expect to Be Released in Magia Record.
Continuing from my original post from last week, today I will talk about what specific units I'm expecting to become part of the series.
Thanks to H.Mami and Yachiyo, I have noticed a small recurring theme in these releases: animation quality. And what do I mean by that? Well, for those of you who have seen the anime, you probably have noticed already that the game developers are choosing the scenes with the best animation quality as the units' transformation and magia/doppel sequences. That being said, by watching the anime and paying close attention where the animation quality improves significantly, we can take a guess on what characters could join the game in their new anime-style form.
Holy Mami got the improved Blu-Ray edit of her showdown at the Memory Museum from season 1. Yachiyo got her anger-driven transformation and doppel from her battle against Mifuyu, which just so happens to be the peak animation season 2 gave us. So, I might not be too far from the path here.
Without further ado, let's begin:
1. Iroha Tamaki: It is impossible to even think about this series without making Iroha part of it. She's the main character and the one with the most alts in the game, so Iroha is the most obvious add to this list. Moreover, her transformation and first doppel unleashing in season 1 were pretty epic and beautifully animated, if you ask me.
Tumblr media
2. MadoHomu: Could this be...? The single most wanted dual unit in the game may be brought to us in anime-style form. These two characters made their first appearance in season 2 with pretty similar transformation sequences that could be meshed together for a dual unit. Although they may not possess a doppel, there could be a second magia with Sayaka making a special appearance.
Tumblr media
3. Mifuyu Azusa: Ah yes, the queen of victimizing herself. Mifuyu didn't get a proper transformation for the anime but, guess what? Season 3 isn't out yet, so we could be surprised with one by then. She got a pretty badass doppel unleashing in season 2 and I believe the devs wouldn't want to waste it just like that. How rude that'd be.
Tumblr media
4. Rumor Tsuruno (Broken ver.): She got a pretty big spotlight in season 2 and, although the animation on her episodes was quite bad, the Blu-Ray edit may provide some improvement by then. There isn't a proper transformation, but she does have a cool battle entrance and there's also the creepy brainwashing after-credits scene with Nemu that could be used. Just imagine playing with an unit that's literally falling apart in front of your eyes. The horror aspect of the series could finally be here!
Tumblr media
5. Kaede Akino (Syndrome ver.): THIS IS THE UNIT I WANT! Ever since episode 4 released and we got to see Kaede going berserk with her doppel, I am craving this unit more than you could imagine! We do have an INCREDIBLE transformation sequence that could turn her into one of the most wanted units in the game. We really need some horror units, you guys.
Tumblr media
6. KuroIro: Yes, I have already mentioned Kuroe on my previous post, but this time I bring to you a reasonable dual unit. Honestly, the way Kuroe is being written tells me she's going to do more in the story than many of us want, so a possible heroic moment with Iroha may be the door that opens the path for this dual unit to become a reality. We got some pretty cool and decently animated scenes with the both of them for the devs to use, but we may have to wait for that special moment to happen in season 3 (if it happens) for an usable transformation sequence.
Tumblr media
7. Honorable mentions: Holy Alina and/or her Final form, SayaHomu, KyoIro, IroYachi, and FeliSana (Magius Team ver.).
Of course, I am no clairvoyant to know exactly what's going to come out in the game, but I had fun thinking about the possibilities. Look! Six more units I'm never going to own! Lovely!

Justice for Awashima Seri
One of my latest posts made me want to re-watch K Project Return of Kings, especially Scepter 4 segment. And damn, there are so many things that happened to Awashima and frankly she didn’t deserve it. I’m not talking about GoRa’s overly disgusting fanservice attempts on Seri, although that’s indeed something that must be protested. I’m talking about how she was kept in dark by her two megane colleagues (mainly Munakata) even though she’s Second in Command of Scepter 4 and someone who has been working besides them for years. After I finished rewatching..... wow it’s worse than I remembered. My heart truly breaks for Seri, and I’m super glad that in the end she got her happy ending (by punching Munakata’s face). Like first, we know how worried she was about Munakata’s state, and after Reisaru’s fight in episode 8, Seri was so worried about Fushimi’s wellbeing and his bedding. Then at the very beginning of her role in episode 9, we have this :
Tumblr media Tumblr media
For almost anyone besides Seri, maybe they will not think too much about the fact that they can’t understand what the hell are on Munakata and Fushimi’s heads, after all they’re not the easiest people to understand. But for Seri, it’s quite a new unpleasant territory for her. There’s a reason why she’s the Second in Command after Munakata, why she can easily command the rebel Fushimi without many protests from the said rebel, and why she can work alongside cryptic geniuses like Munakata and Fushimi. From R:B novel, we know that she’s an all-round achiever, but one of her main virtue is she’s goddamn observant. She more or less can understand Munakata’s unique mindset, and she mostly can see right through Fushimi’s bullshit. She more often can hit ‘100 point mark’ regarding the enigmatic Munakata and the ‘absolute tsundere’ Fushimi than any other human being except each other. Like on Munakata’s case, we have this :
Yoshino continued. “An ordinary man would have an interest in nude females, I think, but this is the Captain we’re talking about… How is it for him, what do you think?” She looked up at Awashima.
Awashima’s lips curved into a stiff smile as she took her time to think.
Then she drew a breath and, “I haven’t given that subject a thought until now. But well, if I had to answer…” She shook her head. “This is what I think: in the Captain’s case, it’s entirely possible that never once in his life he has so much as opened that kind of magazines or, alternatively, stores an entire thousand book collection of obscene materials in his room, and I won’t be surprised in the least in either case. Would this suffice as an answer?” Munakata Reishi’s right hand woman and Lieutenant, Awashima Seri, said with an even more strained smile.
Case Files of Blue Chapter 1 (and looking at how eager Munakata asked Hidaka to show his collection, suffice to say that Awashima is absolutely correct about her answer).
Awashima: But, well, for the Captain it’s probably of equal value. Fushimi: Of equal value? What is? Awashima: Protecting this country’s peace and fulfilling his promise to a kindergartener.
Optician Drama CD
And on Fushimi’s case :
“…It might not be a misunderstanding, you know. What if I were in cahoots with Homura?” he retorted, lips pursed.
For a moment, Awashima’s eyes widened slightly before narrowing to slits as she humphed letting a slight smirk tug on her lips. “Suppose there really is a traitor who’s trembling while covered in cold sweat; I’d say at the very least it’s safe to assume he’s not switching sides because he likes it. It’s time for your report. The materials are ready, I hope?”
The King and The Traitor
“It’s hard to call realistic, I have to agree with you on that. And on the off chance that it indeed is a strain’s doing, there is hardly any ground to claim harm sustained from the act. It’s the rainy season, after all. So I do find the idea of wasting time and manpower on investigating this possibility unreasonable, especially considering that we hardly have any to spare, but… if it’s an order from my superior officer, I will look into it though?”
It was said curtly and emotionlessly, but Awashima let out a little chuckle, hearing Fushimi’s answer. “Then look into it for me. Since like me, my competent and capable subordinate, too, seems to be concerned with this matter.”
Endless Rain
Also in anime, she noticed Yata’s worry for Mikoto and informed him about Mikoto’s condition to calm him. After breaking Sarumi’s fight, instead of asking apology, she demanded Fushimi to show her the result of his investigation, knowing full well that Fushimi already did some digging before he confronted Yata. She made the remark about only a King can attract another King. Heck, she already deduced that the reason why Munakata kept Zenjou-san on Scepter 4 is to kill Munakata one day, even though Munakata understandably never told anyone about it. During ROK, I kinda got feeling like Munakata and Fushimi were purposely ‘ghosting’ her, but looking at how observant she is, it’s quite understandable why Munakata and Fushimi kept Awashima in the dark to preserve their secret mission (still jerk move for them though).
I think that’s one of the reason why Fushimi gave the hint about his secret mission only to Yata. Not only Yata is his best friend, but he also can count on Yata’s insensitiveness, having been the victim first-hand in the past. Like, Fushimi who is surprisingly responsible and dutiful for his job maybe thought “it’s fine to give Misaki a hint, it’s not like he can pick it up anyway”, so he can feel ‘less guilty’ for endangering the secrecy of his mission. Not that he’s wrong though, I mean Yata you’re a good guy but I have to say you really have a fine thick-head for not noticing and still saying that Fushimi betrayed the Blues, Fushimi jumped from sinking ship after Fushimi uttered such a vague sentence and after knowing that Fushimi secretly asked your brother to quit Jungle. Thank God Munakata gave him clear explanation later. Instead for Awashima, she only got this :
Tumblr media
In that brief moment of silence, Fushimi let Awashima knew 3 things :
1. He joined Green clan and willing to attack his ‘former’ clansmen for them.
2. Not only joined Green clan, but he’s now one of J-ranker of Jungle. You know, the true Green clansmen, the one they have to be most cautious like Sukuna and Yukari.
3. He allied with one of Green clansman who participated on Anna’s kidnapping and former Scepter 4′s prisoner.
And he didn’t give Awashima and Kusanagi anything except complete silence and green-laced knife-throwing. Mission accomplished! The monkey succeeds on fooling the strong-willed and observant Lieutenant of Scepter 4. Just like the phrase “To fool your enemy, fool your friends”, there’s no way Awashima can perceive that except as complete betrayal. Haha.
Tumblr media
(Truly, Fushimi was so good at executing his job. Too good, actually).
Then, after that shocking revelation that can shake someone’s mentality, she still had duty to report it toward her superior. Look at her reaction after Munakata said things about biting the giver’s hand.
Tumblr media
(OMG watching that scene after knowing about Fushimi and Munakata’s secret mission made me truly itch to punch a certain King’s beautiful sparkly face).
She blamed herself for failing to look after Fushimi. I read some posts about Fushimi’s betrayal speculation before ROK episode 11 was aired, those who predicted that Fushimi joined Green for real, almost all expected Yata to stop Fushimi and made him go back to Scepter 4 (or Homra). While I understand the potential Sarumi heartbreaking angst and their another flashy fighting scene, I can’t help but think, can Yata do it? Not that I doubt strong bond between them, but Yata and Fushimi are equal in power. Okay, Yata is stronger in raw power, but Fushimi proved himself can accommodate his power effectively to match Yata. We know from their fight in Ashinaka Gakuen that Fushimi’s dual-color status can pass Yata’s defense, just like an attack can pass the defense from the same aura. Then Fushimi got his Green Aura. I didn’t say that Yata surely would lose to Fushimi on that situation, but it’s understandable if he lost and no one will blame him. But Seri? She’s canonly stronger than Fushimi, she’s usually can keep Fushimi on check in Scepter 4 and Seri is his direct superior after Munakata. I think if indeed Fushimi joined Green clan, the ones that have a chance to win battling him are Seri, Kusanagi, Kuro, and Kings. I can see Awashima blamed herself for failing to stop Fushimi and wanted to compensate for that failure by bringing Fushimi back to Scepter 4.
So, as if that burden is not heavy enough, Munakata brought Zenjou to his side and Awashima, who already worried about Munakata’s safety for a whole season and more, got an honor to watch on front seat as this happened :
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Her King had a sword pointed toward his neck, but Awashima wasn’t fast enough to even touch her saber. Munakata’s Second in Command, who just realized that preventing her King’s Damocles Down is her responsibility, was shown the fact that she was not fast enough in comparison with Zenjou. Just, let’s imagine some time between episode 9 and 11 Seri looked at her saber, lamented at the fact that she failed to stop Fushimi and she was not fast enough to fulfil her most hurtful responsibility. Imagine Seri tried to get a hold of herself, readied herself to point her sword toward her closest comrades.
Of course her torment didn’t end there. The Quack Prime Minister fired Munakata from his duty, removed him from Scepter 4. And Munakata, wordlessly, without giving any words or announcements toward his clansmen...
Tumblr media Tumblr media
(SERIOUSLY GIVE HER A BREAK! MUNAKATAAAAA!!!!)
I feel like that scene is the peak of Munakata’s “ghosting” toward Awashima. Not to mention, her (and Scepter 4) next order is :
Tumblr media
(Help! My poor clueless ducklings are trapped while their genius jerk megane superiors are carelessly walking toward suicide plans!).
Honorary mention for the rest of poor lost ducklings :
Tumblr media Tumblr media
(Yes, Munakata, you can’t just leave without any words toward your clansmen. Especially when you literally walked toward your death).
Tumblr media
(BTW the meaning of “one unthinkable thing happening after another” is Fushimi’s betrayal followed by Munakata’s resignation. Little appreciation that they thought Fushimi’s betrayal is “unthinkable thing” even though the fact that Fushimi’s status as Homra’s “traitor” is widely known in Scepter 4).
Tumblr media Tumblr media
(Zenjou-san and the rest of Scepter 4 are not amused by your secret plan shenanigans, Munakata and Fushimi. Zenjou thought that those jerks truly ruin meganes’ reputation. Unbeknown to him, Enomoto thought the same).
Well, we know what happened after this. Seri and the rest of Special Squad got their first clue about what the heck is happened from a freaking TV, they rushed toward their King, the show was shifted to Silvers and Reds and NO SCEPTER 4 REUNION OR SETTLEMENT EVEN THOUGHT GORA CRAFTED SUCH A BIG AND COMPLEX CONFLICT IN SCEPTER 4.
Well, at least Seri got to punch Munakata in the face, even though in my opinion she truly deserved more after all the shits she had been through.

Karai (2012) Appreciation post
Tumblr media
Karai is one of the most iconic characters of TMNT 2012 due to her ambiguous morality and complexity. She´s one of the characters that changes the most in the story. Her personal motives often remain uncertain: even when she´s one of good guys, her methods to accomplish her goals are still questionable. She´s one character who is constanly walking in a thin line between ¨good¨ and ¨bad¨.
Karai made her debut in the first season in the episode ¨A new girl in the Town¨. Leo first met her after having an argument with Raph over his role as leader of the group. Karai took Leonardo by surprise, beating him easily to the ground but in the last moment she decided to leave, much to Leo´s surprise.
Tumblr media
This made Leonardo question himself if Karai was really as evil as she pretended to be, seeing that there was a chance for her to get redeemed. Later, in the same episode, Karai decided to help him with fighting Snakeweed by throwing a knife and left the scene, saying ¨Sayonara¨ (goodbye in japanese) to Leo.
Karai, as trained kunoichi, knows how to manipulate people into doing what she wants. As Splinter described: A Kunoichi is a master of deception and Karai is good at it.
She´s aware that Leo has feelings for her and often used this to her own advantage to gain information or make the turtles fall into a trap. In ¨Alien Agenda¨ she used this to steal Kraang tech and then left the brothers when a mutant started attacking them.
Tumblr media
In these episodes it was shown that Karai was Shredder´s daughter. Their relationship seemed to be very complicated, almost toxic to some extent, as Shredder seemed to threatened her many times with punishing her if she didn´t obey his commands. Karai seemed to be afraid of him but she would rebel against him from time to time.
The thing is that even in season 1, she frequently questioned Oroku Saki, like why didn´t he cared about the Kraang or about how they were planning to make an invasion in New York City. She´s was a rebel teenager, who enjoyed doing things her own way. She even once tried making a temporarily truce with the turtles to fight against a Kraang ship in ¨Enemy of my enemy¨.
Tumblr media
One of her main goals in season one and two was to get revenge on Splinter for ¨killing¨ her mother: The true was that when she was a baby, Oroku Saki took her away from Hamato Yoshi and killed Tang Shen,Karai´s mother in the process.
Karai was raised to think that her own father, Hamato Yoshi, was the one that killed Tang Shen and Oroku Saki was her actual real father. Since she was little, Shredder made her believe her purpose in life was to avenge her mother by destroying Splinter.
This started to change around season 2, when Leo kept telling that Shredder was just using her to hurt Splinter. Karai had it´s own doubts but she didn´t really changed her mind until she saw that Splinter still kept a photo of when he was still a human and Tang Shen was alive.
Tumblr media
By seeing the photo, Karai realized that Shredder had been manipulating her the entire time only to get revenge. The moment she learned the truth, she decided to help the turtles to fight against Tiger Claw, who was tracking them to find the lair.
After getting captured by Tiger Claw and held prisioner by Shedder, she still remain rebellious, trying to find any way she could to escape from her prision. Their relationship also changed drastically, Shedder became abusive to Karai, keeping her behind bars and not letting her see her real father.
In his own twisted way, he cared about Karai, but he didn´t see her as her own person with her own feelings and desires. For him, she existed to be an extension of him, she was a tool to carry out his plans for revenge.
In ¨Vengeance is Mine¨ the turtles helped her to escape from Shredder´s lair, Karai went to met Splinter. The first she did was giving him a hug, happy of finally be able to be with him.
Tumblr media
However, she wanted to end Saki for having manipulated her into believing that Splinter was her enemy. Splinter warned her that revenge was not the answer, but for the Kunoichi, her feelings of anger and hatred were too much to resist the urge of making Shedder pay.
In a tragic accident, Karai fell into mutangen and becames a mutant snake, her behaviour turned animalistic, hurting everyone she considered a threat. However, she appeared to still have some level of self-awareness, as she was able to recognize Leo, Mikey and Splinter in this state.
Tumblr media
In season 3 when the brothers were trying to hunt her down and use the retromutantgen on her, she shown to able to turn back into her human form momentarily and was capable of communicating with them despite losing herself to the mutation.
A few episodes later she was captured by Shredder and infected with a mind control worn, which made her follow his orders without question and hunt the main protagonists.
While she was mind controlled, Karai returned to her old evil ways. She was shown to be a cunning, intelligent and a very dangerous foe since she could change between her muntant and human form, easily defeating most of the Hamato Clan.
Once Splinter freed her from the mind control brain worm, Karai turned good back again, becoming a recurrent ally for the turtles in Season 4.
Tumblr media
In season 4, she goes on a trip to Japan to seek for her close friend,Shinigami, and recruit foot soldiers to rebuild the Foot clan. In Shredder´s absence, she became the new leader of the clan with the intention changing it and getting rid of Shredder´s empire.
While Karai is an ally this season, she still does very questionable things. She became obsessed with getting revenge on Oroku Saki, often putting others on danger (Broken Foot). After realizing that taking down Shedder factories wasn´t worth of her time, she decided to go after Shedder himself without involving her family anymore.
Tumblr media
In season 5, in ¨The Forgotten Swordsman¨ it was implied that she sent assassins to end her old master, Hattori Tatsu, to prevent him from reclaming the Kuro Kabuto. After having a fighting Tatsu, Karai felt terribly sorry for going after him since it only caused problems to her friends at the end.
From that moment forward, Karai focused on rebuilding the Foot Clan and helping the turtles with their missions. She´s determinated in restoring the Clan´s honor once again and fixing the errors of Shredder´s legacy.
In conclusion: Karai is one of the most complex characters in tmnt 2012. She starts as enemy who becomes an ally and a friend by the end of the series. She goes throught multiple changes, from learning the truth about her real father to growing into mature leader for Foot clan.

Happy New Years
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Osechi: Osechi has been a traditional Japanese new year food since the Heian period and is very strongly tied to that holiday. It is recognizable by its special box which is similar to a bento box in storage and functionality. Originally the Japanese New Year was celebrated according to the solar/lunar calendar known as the Tenpō calendar, and some of the traditional festivities are still celebrated according to that system, although officially the Gregorian calendar is used as of 1873.
The name Osechi comes from o-sechi, meaning a season/important time, New Year's day was one of the five seasonal events of the Kyoto imperial court. During the first three days of the new year, people weren’t supposed to cook most meals so osechi was made at the close of the old year to be eaten during that period. Although it was originally quite simple, osechi has become more varied over the centuries and now the many dishes that can be found in it can also reflect well wishes for the new year such as kuro-mame and ebi. Traditionally osechi is made at home, although in modern times it can be found in many stores.
Toso: Toso is a spiced rice wine considered medicinal that is a staple part of the new year's osechi cuisine in Japan. The recipe is said to have originally been a prescription by the famous Chinese physician Hua Tuo during the third century, it began appearing in Japan around the 9th century. The ingredients have changed over time but now it typically contains Japanese pepper, cinnamon, ginger, rhubarb, amongst others. there are also multiple regional drinking ceremonies associated with its consumption.
Toso is drunk to wash away the previous year's toxins and maladies, not just for the drinker but for those around them, it is also thought to promote longer life. The kanji toso is written with even reflect this, 蘇 representing evil spirits and 屠 meaning to defeat. Toso first became associated with the New Year during the Edo period, when pharmacies started giving out tososan to their patients as a year-end gift. At home, the patients could soak the tososan in some sake, and then drink the sake, hoping that it would give them good health in the New Year. The custom is now mainly limited to Kansai and west Japan; as people in other regions more often drink sake at new years without the herbal mixture.
Champagne: Champagne is a French sparkling wine, and although many people use the term Champagne as a term for any sparkling wine, in many countries it is illegal to label any product Champagne unless it is produced under the rules of the appellation. It is produced from specific types of grapes grown in the Champagne region following rules that demand, among other things, specific vineyard practices, sourcing of grapes exclusively from designated places within the region, specific grape-pressing methods and secondary fermentation of the wine in the bottle to cause carbonation. The genuine product is a drink help to a high standard even to this day as it often still can not be mass-produced efficiently.
The lavishness of champagne dates back to the 16th century. European aristocrats would pop the bottles at their royal parties, making the drink an “elite” item to have and to drink. After the French Revolution, it became a part of the secular rituals that replaced formerly religious rituals. The drink came to be opened at weddings, baptisms and other religious events. As the price declined in the 1800s the developing middle classes could begin to afford it, not as a table drink but still for celebrations, one of them being new years. Some suggest the drink became so tied to the holiday has a form of symbolically christening the new year, but many also argue that this drink is just very enjoyable and the tradition was born of celebrating that on the holiday.
Tteokguk: Tteokguk is a traditional Korean dish eaten during the celebration of the Korean New Year. The dish consists of the broth/soup with thinly sliced rice cakes. The broth is generally made by simmering the main protein in a ganjang-seasoned stock, the stock is then strained to make it more clear and long cylinder-shaped garaetteok are thinly sliced diagonally and boiled in the clear broth. Garnish is added before serving, but will often vary by region and personal taste. Although tteokguk is traditionally a seasonal dish, it is now eaten at all times of the year.
It is tradition to eat tteokguk on New Year's Day because it is believed to grant the consumer good luck for the year. The New Year custom of eating tteokguk is speculated as being originated from ancient times, The white tteok signifying purity and cleanliness would be eaten as a ritual to start off the New Year for good fortune. In Korea, on New Year's Day, a family performs ancestral rites by serving tteokguk to their ancestors during a joint meal as well. The Korean New Year is different from the Gregorian New Year, being about a month later as it is determined with a lunar calendar, culturally it is also very different as you are thought to become a year older on this day rather than the anniversary of your birth.
Honorable Mentions -
Bibimbap: Bibimbap is a Korean rice dish, the term "bibim" means mixing various ingredients, while the "bap" noun refers to rice. It has existed in Korea for centuries and even is still often enjoyed today. Its creation came to be from early rural Koreans taking leftover vegetables, sometimes having meat, with rice and mixing them in a bowl. People ate bibimbap on the eve of the Lunar New Year as the people at that time felt that they had to get rid of all of the leftover side dishes before the New Year, but the dish has a very large history independent of that fact.
Fondant Cake: Some people have a tradition of placing three candles on a new year's cake as a way to wish for health, wealth, and happiness in the oncoming year. I had thought this was a thing many people did but I could not find it’s source or replication during my research.
Soba: Toshikoshi Soba, or year-crossing noodle, is a Japanese traditional noodle bowl dish eaten on New Year's Eve. It symbolizes letting go of the hardship of the year because soba noodles are easily cut while eating. Long noodles are thought to be a sign of long life, and soba, in general, are often associated with strength and health. This is an honorable mention because it is a specific type of cooking soba while the in-game soba seems to be the noodles in general.
Sakura mochi, Kashiwa mochi, Hishi mochi: Mochi are often eaten at new years although all of our in-game examples are already designated to different celebrations. Sakura mochi is to celebrate spring, specifically when cherry trees bloom. Kashiwa mochi is to celebrate Children's Day and Hishi mochi is for the Hinamatsuri Festival (otherwise known as Girl’s Day), two celebrations also during the spring.
--
I would like to note that yes Korean New Year is still a bit away but I felt it would be best to do now since otherwise Tteokguk and BBB might be alone or stuck with all of the Chinese Lunar New Year food souls awkwardly. With that said, Happy New Year everyone and good luck to you all in the oncoming year.

Heeding the Call: Cthulhu and Japan
Depending on your interests, the name Cthulhu may stir feelings of some strange familiarity, or an excited, nearly existential sense of horror to come. Despite the fiction that birthed much of the “Cthulhu Mythos” being moderately popular, the cosmic horrors introduced by H.P. Lovecraft have morphed into a life of their own thanks to the work of his protege, August Derleth, leaving future generations to encounter the unknowable in various forms spanning video games, tv shows, movies, and perhaps the most popular forms, table-top roleplaying and board game experiences. Perhaps less well known, though, is the fact that the Cthulhu Mythos is exceedingly popular in Japan, and has a wide and exciting history of adaptations, works, and impact upon many of the genres we love in Japan to this day. Today, we’ll be taking a look and exploring that history!
The history of Cthulhu in Japan is a bit more diverse than you might initially think, and isn’t as unified as it might seem! The first bits of spreading horror came from translations of H.P. Lovecraft’s original works into Japanese in the 1940s, appearing in the horror publication Hakaba (or Graveyard) Magazine, translated by Nishio Tadashi. These early translations would prove vastly popular, and over the years ended up leading to numerous Japanese adaptations and inspirations based on Lovecraft’s original works.
Anime and manga fans are likely somewhat familiar with Kaoru Kurimoto, creator of Guin Saga, Hideyuki Kikuchi, creator of Vampire Hunter D, fan favorite horror author Junji Ito, and legendary mangaka Shigeru Mizuki, who all claimed Lovecraft as a direct influence on their works at some point. That existential, cosmic, unknowable horror is certainly present in Ito’s works like Uzumaki, and Mizuki’s interest in folklore and yokai make an attraction to the Cthulu Mythos a lot more understandable. Mizuki actually drew an adaptation of the classic story The Dunwich Horror under the title Chitei no Ashioto, simply moving the story and characters to Mizuki’s beloved setting of rural Japan.
Perhaps one of the most influential Lovecraft inspired creators in anime though is Chiaki J. Konaka, likely best known to many for his work on series like Serial Experiments Lain, Digimon Tamers, and Big O, as well as other series like Armitage III (which takes its name from a Lovecraft character!), RaXephon and Texnolyze among many others. Konaka’s career extends into the Tokusatsu side of things as well, having worked on numerous Ultraman series ranging from Tiga, Gaia, Max, and more, as well as many other series. Konaka worked in references to the Cthulhu Mythos into many of his projects, and even wrote his own short fiction; one of them, Terror Rate, was even published in English, and was even a guest of honor at the HP Lovecraft Film Festival in 2018!
Much of the spread and popularity of Cthulhu fiction in Japan is owed to a few people, one of the most notable being Ken Asamatsu. Asamatsu has spent much of his career translating and spreading Lovecraft’s works in Japan, running fanzines and other publications in order to spread his love of the existential dread universe. While Asamatsu has worked on a few manga himself, he isn’t exactly an anime or manga creator, but without his input and dedication, it is unlikely that these works would ever be as popular as they are today!
Existential, creeping, unknowable horror translates well to other mediums as well, so it should come as little surprise that video games share various callbacks and influences from the Cthulhu Mythos as well. Atlus’s Shin Megami Tensei series and its many spin-offs feature numerous callbacks to Cthulhu Mythos characters and creatures, with some of the most obvious being Nyarlathotep’s direct role in Shin Megami Tensei: Persona and Persona 2. Many of the other titles reference things like the Necronomicon, with that same text being the initial persona of Persona 5’s Futaba Sakura.
Aside from Shin Megami Tensei, there are less obvious, but somewhat hard to miss, references to many of the tropes and unique style of horror in the Cthulhu Mythos in From Software’s Demon’s Souls, Dark Souls, and most directly Bloodborne games. Demon’s Souls in particular draws heavily on the existential, unknowable horror that is descending upon the kingdom of Boletaria and the secrets behind its true collapse, and the Dark Souls games similarly feature somewhat Lovecraftian ideas and monsters. Of the three, Bloodborne is the most direct with its inspirations, with characters routinely discussing the fact that seeing more of the truth may drive one mad, cosmic entities controlling, mutating, and destroying humanity, fish people (a staple of Lovecraft’s works), and humongous, tentacle-faced monsters (here known as Amygdala).
Ironically, however, there is actually another reason for the popularity of Cthulhu Mythos in Japanese media that helped spread its flavorful influence amongst various genres, and it actually has little to do with Lovecraft’s actual writings themselves. Instead, many Japanese fans encounter Lovecraft’s elder gods through the table-top role-playing game Call of Cthulhu, first published in Japan 1986, and the explosion in popularity was not only a staggering success, but it continues to this day! Although many Western fans might assume that TTRPG games like Dungeons and Dragons are popular in Japan due to some of their influences in fantasy anime, Call of Cthulhu reigns supreme as the most popular TTRPG in Japan, and its popularity likely helped introduce many Japanese to the TTRPG genre in the first place!
Call of Cthulhu is, essentially, a group mystery adventure game, and that seems to have really hit big with Japanese audiences far and wide, because the game has remained in print since its initial introduction in the nineties, and has fans of all ages and genders playing in groups, to the point that some places will find their rooms for group meetings rented out to play games of Call of Cthulhu! Recently, the game even got some favorable air time in an NHK news segment, talking about the game itself and the fun that can be had with it! With this popularity came the growth of a somewhat unique phenomenon: Replays, essentially narrative, semi-novelized versions of Call of Cthulhu campaigns collected and printed for other people to read, similar to today’s popular “actual play” podcasts and videos such as Critical Role or The Adventure Zone. Even today, Call of Cthulhu replays are extremely popular, with new versions being printed all the time, sometimes even adorned with amazing, cute anime styled art and other interesting little design choices, like semi-doujinshi level works featuring Touhou characters, and more! These Replays became so popular that they soon spread to other types of TTRPGs, and are the inspiration behind anime such as Record of Lodoss War, Slayers, and many others!
If one were to search Cthulhu on Amazon.jp, you’d actually find that most of the results are these colorful and interesting Replay books, almost more so than you’d even find the original novels and stories by Lovecraft himself! There are many other fascinating fan inspired books about the Cthulhu Mythos, including a personal favorite of Cthulhu monsters arranged in a book similar to those of Kaiju and Tokusatsu stylings (even featuring a cartoon Lovecraft on the cover doing the famous Ultraman pose). There are other small Cthulhu publications in Japanese, include a manga anthology called Zone of Cthulhu and numerous adaptations, and Gou Tanabe’s versions are even being translated into English, with The Hound and Other Stories already available, and At the Mountains of Madness coming later this year.
Of course the Cthulhu love isn’t limited to just print media; many anime have featured some nods and callbacks to the mythos, such as in the visual novel and anime of the same name Demonbane, which is even set in Lovecraft’s beloved Arkham. Main character Kuro Daijuji works with Al Azif, the living personification of the Necronomicon, to defeat the nefarious Black Lodge (a very probable nod to David Lynch’s Twin Peaks here). As mentioned above, numerous works by Chiaki J. Konaka draw from the Cthulhu Mythos, but Digimon Tamers might be the most surprising, with callbacks to Miskatonic University and Shaggai, as well as a computer AI that seems to have more in common with the Great Old Ones than it does Skynet! Another example is a fairly popular series, Bungo Stray Dogs, where one of the characters... is actually named Lovecraft! But that's not all! His "The Great Old Ones" ability is a reference to Cthulhu's origins. Probably one of the most famous examples is Nyaruko: Another Crawling Chaos, where the monsters of Lovecraft’s works are revealed to actually be aliens, but still very weird! The anime is a comedy featuring numerous Mythos characters repurposed or slightly renamed, such as Nyarlathotep as Nyaruko, the Yellow King Hastur, and more. The series of novels proved popular enough to spawn 3 anime seasons and other spin offs, proving that even if you take the horror out of the Mythos, people will still find it entertaining and… cute?
Speaking of cute, this brings us to a few interesting final tidbits about the Cthulhu Mythos and Japan. Aside from the direct popularity, the language change and differences have led to a few running gags in Japan about the series, one of which has to do with the somewhat infamous Cthulhu cultist chant, “Ia Ia Cthulhu Ftaghn,” with “Ia Ia” being pronounced very similar to the Japanese expression “iya iya”, which has a few various uses in casual Japanese, either meaning something similar to “um” or “no” depending on how and where it is used. The second comes from the fact that Japanese, being a syllabic language, actually has an easier time pronouncing the supposedly “unpronouncable” names of the Cthulu Mythos creatures, with Cthulhu being translated as クトゥルフ, or “Kutourufu”, which is not only a lot easier to actually say, but sounds oddly cute for the sinister elder god!
Cthulhu mania seems as popular as ever both outside and inside of Japan, with new games, movies, comics, and more drawing inspiration from the titles. Although Lovecraft’s own works are less popular than when the fascination started, the current passion for his ideas stems from the attractive allure of the unknown, the potential darkness lingering in shadows and dark pools of water. Whatever the reason people flock to the Cthulhu Mythos, it seems like we can look forward to numerous adaptations, inspirations, and callbacks for years to come… until perhaps even Cthulhu awakens! Until then, it’s best to keep your wits about you and stock up on your esoteric lore… You never know where the elder gods might pop up next during your next anime, manga, or video game binge!
Have any secret and mysterious ancient Cthulhu influences we didn’t mention? Know of any other influences on Japan you’d like us to cover? Let us know in the comments!

WARNING: The following contains mentions of detailed violence, suicide, mental illness, drug/alcohol mention and spousal abuse. Please read at your digression.
Clìfeid Shinnan’vok (Surname taken later in life) Name Meaning: Soft Snow Son of Shinnan Nicknames: Clif, Killer, Pretty Boy (via Credomhain only) Gender: Male Age: 675 at time of death (possible suicide) Species: Kurosian Dragon Breed: Yinvaht+Urlathei Hybrid Main Element: Ice Minor Element: Fear Patron Gods: Main: Unnamed Shadow Diety Minor: Mahoura Titles: Stalker of Shadows, The Bee Keeper Relations:
Mates: Many, notably Creidmheach
Sire of Ifreann and Ciar Creid’vel
Sire of more than two dozen other children throughout Kurosia
Bio:  Much about Clìfeid is unknown until he made his mark on Kurosian history by being found by the then-monarchs in their private chambers with the head of the then-Chroma’s Admiral strapped to his side. He tossed the head of the Chroma’s most decorated and seasoned warrior to the King and Queens’s feet in their personal chambers, declaring that he wished to be one of their chief assassins, and that he would still serve them until his dying breath. During his fight against the late Admiral, his throat had been deeply cut, altering his voice to a near-whisper until his dying days.
But that did not mean he could not kill, or spy. Clìfeid was enlisted in many assassination contracts following his Grounding, still fully capable of fighting against Chroma and others the Kuros pitted themselves against or had war declared on them by. After all, he had spent an undetermined part of his life training to kill the Chroma’s most powerful, and knew well how to take their lives without being noticed. For seasons Clìfeid fought bravely, serving his monarchs and his people, dispatching of many an enemy the Kuros found themselves pitted against.
But it would eventually become too much for even a seasoned killer, and for no other reason than wishing to pursue other avenues of life, Clìfeid stepped down from his position. Assumed an entirely new identity, dying his scales and feathers an entirely different hue, and stepped out into the public eye for the first time.
And was promptly bowled over by one of the stockiest, rudest Brokt teen he’d ever laid eyes on. With a crude laugh she helped him back up and barreled off on her way with a gaggle of other Brokt and students headed to the colleges. With a snarl Clìfeid went about his business, his life carrying on mostly normally from them on.
Over the course of the next few generations, Clìfeid lived as any other Kuros did. He made a name for himself as a bee keeper, being one of the few who could walk among their hives without being stung by the ferocious breed that called the Kuros’s capitol home. The honey that he gathered was well sought after, specifically by non-Kuros, who claimed that his honey had psychoactive affects and helped those with PTSD and other mental illnesses. Clìfeid felt as if his life had finally become somewhat normal.
Until the Chroma declared war on the Kuros again, and he became one of their primary war criminal targets. Forced out of retirement, Clìfeid was enlisted not as a soldier, but as a military strategist. Though many suns had passed since the peak of his activity, and many things had changed, what he had seen and could recollect during the peak of his career as a paid killer was invaluable. But Clìfeid could not remain behind the front lines for very long.
The first-born son of the Admiral who’s life Clìfeid had taken challenged Clìfeid‘s honor, and revealed his greatest shame gathered by their own spies. Clìfeid hadn’t spent all of his life until killing the Admiral training to kill; he’d been a petty thief in Bjartr Tunga, fed tales of glory days of old from one of his banished Kurosian parents. Determined to live most of his life honored by his true people, Clìfeid had traveled to War Fang, killed the Admiral in his sleep, and spun the story that would cement his honor among his people.
Furiously, Clìfeid accepted the challenge, and the fight between the Admiral’s son (who had become the Electricity Guardian for the Chroma) and the former assassin who had fought so desperately for his own honor was long and bloody. For a time the battle around them ceased, as the Kuros and Chroma watched the two rip and tear at each other furiously for hours. Even with numerous ice shards causing the Guardian incredible damage, he still fought Clìfeid; and even with his scales burnt and his vision permanently damaged from the lightening that had been shot through him, the assassin still fought.
The duel came to an end when the Guardian took hold of Clìfeid’s left wing, and ripped it from his body. With the gaping wounds bleeding freely, Clìfeid collapsed, unable to move. The Guardian stood over him, triumphant, his body humming with wild arcs of electricity that would poised to finish the job.
But they never came. Before Clìfeid’s eyes the Guardian’s head turned a full and unnatural 180 degrees, the crack of bone and sinew filling the silence that had fallen.
Standing over him was the Brokt from all those years ago, looking down at him with a feral grin. “Well,” she bellowed, more to the gathered crowd than to him, “don’t just sit about gapin’! There’s a war to be fought!”
Creidmheach Stòrach’vel Name Meaning: Believer Daughter of the Broken Nicknames: Brick, Creid Gender: Female Age: 412 at time of death (accidental: alcohol poisoning) Species: Kurosian Dragon Breed: Brokt Element: Earth Patron Gods: Main: Bruja’heim Relations:
Daughter of Stòrach Duslach’vel and Clachair Poll’vel
Distant relation of Scarmane/Ea’Gann
Dam of Ifreann and Ciar Creid’vel
Mate of Clìfeid Shinnan’vok
Bio: Daughter of the Broken, she was called.
Daughter of the Incomplete, at times.
Sometimes even called broken herself, throughout her life.
But from a young age she understood why they called her that. Looking into either one of her mothers’ eyes, she could see it. That generations before they had her, they’d been broken by their enemies. Captured by the ones who challenged the Kuros the most, and tortured for years. The one who could call sandstorms to her aid changed her name, so ruined was her spirit when she and Clachair escaped.
They were hailed as war heroes, for on their way out they tore a path through the soldiers of the glowing ones’ forces, leaving bodies in their wake from their glimmering castle all the way back to Kurosia. But though their return was celebrated, it also caused unrest among the people; the two were inseparable. They rarely left one another’s sides. For a time they called one another mjia; for a very, very long time. But then her egg appeared between their sleeping bodies one night, and they turned against one another.
This was not the Kuros way. What they’d been feeling for years was wrong, in every sense of the word; the people had seen it, but they’d been so blinded by the horrors inflicted upon them. They tried to separate from one another. Tried to seek out others to keep them company. But the pair could never truly split apart while they took brief moments to help raise Creidmheach. In those moments, Creidmheach saw just how much they hated what had happened between them.
Sometimes it was just words. Whispered so that she didn’t hear, leaving one or the other’s eyes raw and glistening with hurt. Then snarled. Then shouted. Then Clachair struck Stòrach, and from then on, it became violent. Both blamed the other for having fallen in love while trying to survive the torture they’d endured.
Until it came to a violent and bloody head with their teeth buried in each other’s throats.
With Creidmheach being witness to the entire fight.
From then on, she wasn’t the same. She was loud, cocky despite her own broken spirit, and crude. She swore that one day she would be so strong, that she’d never be so weak as her mothers. And anyone who called her broken or less than they themselves were, she’d beat into a bloody pulp.
Over the years she gained a name for herself as a Brokt to be reckoned with. But it was rare that she even briefly considered entering into mating contracts. Even if the other could match her in battle, the memories of her mothers stopped her blood cold, and usually the prospective would earn themselves a sharp blow to the head. Creidmheach didn’t have many friends, either.
Not until she saved the life of another Kuros in battle.
The fight itself had been long, and gruesome. She’d heard up close the reason why the former assassin had accepted the challenge. Watching it filled her with some foreign emotion she could not name; respect, perhaps? Admiration? No, no. Certainly not that. Whatever it was, she’d felt her body move without her will when the Chroma scum had been building up the killing blow. Took a powerful bolt of lightening right into the eye, burning it out of its socket in an instant, but the shock on the Guardian’s face had been worth it as she’d snapped his neck with her own claws.
Standing over the former assassin’s body, she’d shouted at the two crowds, which had launched the battle back into full swing while she dragged the dragon’s body to the healer’s tent.
When he’d come to, the former assassin who’d been grounded introduced himself, and asked why she’d saved him. With a shrug, she’d grinned at him, unable to answer his question. Over the next few months, Clìfeid helped her adjust to the prosthetic eye gem she was given, while she taunted him relentlessly about having become Grounded. In reality, she had a great deal of respect for him accepting his fate with such grace. According to law, he hadn’t won back his honor; she had. And though others sneered at him at times, Clìfeid did not let it affect him. His chief concern was that she was well enough within the next season.
....all so he could challenge her to a mating contract.
To her own hidden, personal horror, she accepted.
Trivia: Clìfeid
Clìfeid’s parents were second-generation Kuros, both of whom had parents that fled Kurosia due to falling in love. As such, Clìfeid has differing views than most of his brethren of love, but on retiring from assassination, adapted well into that role. (According to many of his mates, he was very generous as a partner.)
Bees (and most other insects) not stinging Clìfeid is due to his Urlathei parentage.
This is a trait he passed down to Ciar, who not only is rarely stung, but is also immune to most bites from spiders and other insects.
Clìfeid’s voice claim is Rorsach from Watchmen, but he can’t raise his voice above more than a harsh whisper after his throat is cut.
Clìfeid has very close friendships with his fellow Kuros and those he left behind in Bjartr Tunga. After he is Grounded, he takes up writing to them regularly, which is allowed as Bjartr Tunga is considered a neutral territory and a good hub of trade for the Kuros.
After Ifreann freed Titus and was banished from Kurosia, Clìfeid did something he’d never done before: sampled his own wares. He found that it did indeed induce a momentary high, and as he ate more over the next few seasons, kept building a tolerance to it.
Of his last two daughters, Clìfeid did not have a closer relationship with one or the other; he loved them and paid equal amounts of attention to them both. The two knew they were deeply loved by him, and he was unashamed to shower them with affection that others would sometimes scoff at; the girls didn’t mind, and enjoyed feeling like they meant quite a lot to their sire.
Before his grandson could hatch, Clìfeid wrote a letter to Asiirha, encouraging him to follow the path that made his heart happy rather than what he thought would gain the attention of those he looked up to. This would deeply affect Asiirha later in life when, shortly before The Fall, Ciar gave the letter to him. She hadn’t had the heart to tell him about it, as her sire’s death still pained her greatly.
Trivia: Creidmheach
Creidmheach’s mothers likely would never have entered into mjia partnership if they hadn’t been captured and kept for as long as they had. Stòrach herself often told her daughter that the only reason they became so close was that a sense of battlefield camaraderie had been warped by their captors. This kept Creidmheach from forming many close friendships with others, so fearful was she that she might end up like them.
Most Brokt are unable to undergo the painful process of having their horns carved. But not only did Creidmheach do this twice, she had it done four times.
Though her descendants are many, few of Scarmane’s blood were strong enough to endure the pain horn carving caused.
Like Clìfeid, Creidmheach found herself turning to substance abuse when her daughter brought their family shame. Already a regular drinker from adolescence, the Brokt became a fully blown alcoholic, despite Ciar trying on multiple occasions to get her mother to drop the habit.
Creidmheach’s voice claim is Fionnula Flanagan. (Example)
Creidmheach had a habit of giving those she crossed paths with on multiple occasions nicknames. Despite his scars (or perhaps because of them), Creidmheach would often call Clìfeid effeminate pet names, but ‘Pretty Boy’ was her favorite. (It was his, too.) She called her daughters ‘Tiny’ and ‘Puny’ frequently, alternating between the two.
Despite their ranks within Kurosian society, Creidmheach is quite theatrical about her daughters’ sizes and physical strength. She believes they are not truly Brokt unless they physically match her bulk. When Asiirha hatches, she looks at Ciar with wide-eyed shock, and blurts out ‘You pushed THAT chunk outta your vent?!’ Hers are the first words that Asiirha hears when he comes out of the egg.

Alright General I'm going to make you work on your fan seasons and force you to give us content for them. Group each oc and character by the season they FIRST appear. Try not to repeat yourself.
You think this is content but think again you get no context on any of these or who these people are

After few years long hiatus I am back to watching anime. This post (copied from my MAL account) is mainly for me to keep track with my favorite stuff. In no particular order, some are old, some are new. With one exception they are all series. I feel like I should make separate list for movies and ovas. Also, these are in no way reviews, rather just blurbs of thoughts that come to my mind when I think about the titles. I am not big on romance but there is few of them towards the end.
Some of my preferred genres/themes: psychological, thriller, horror, neo-noir, suspense, drama, mature, apocalypse, politics, history, sci-fi, mecha, war, gangs, mafia
Tumblr media
~Officially~my first anime, the cornerstone for all the things that followed. Contains pretty much everything that I love about a good story - well rounded characters, especially main character that I could somehow connect with, thrilling story with supernatural and apocalyptic themes and heavy symbolism. Great soundtrack. Stunning animation. The series lacks a little compared to the manga so I must admit I am probably hella biased here but who cares. Fave anime right here. Wolf's Rain
Tumblr media
Similarly to X, it contains a lot from the (post)apocalyptic themes that I find alluring. Bonus points for werewolves and main character who is an utter cutie. Great soundtrack, amazing visuals. Same 90’s nostalgic feel as X with a touch of kind of dreamy atmosphere. Bakumatsu Kikansetsu Irohanihoheto
Tumblr media
Top notch visuals and main character who just happens to be my type (you could probably guess that by now). Amazing soundtrack. Political schemes with a side touch of supernatural mystery. Very intriguing plot for history nerds like me. Kurozuka
Tumblr media
Prime example that art doesn’t always have to be easily comprehensible. The story might seem intimidating (confusing, even) at first, but with the ending comes a feeling of immense satisfaction when all the pieces fall in place and you suddenly see the story for what it is. Mix of historical and sci-fi themes work incredibly well together. Add in amazing animation and broody but badass main character and voila – love at first sight for me and a must re-watch show.
Darker Than Black: Kuro no Keiyakusha
Tumblr media
It might seem like this one has kind of a slow start but by the end it gets under your skin, you don't even know how. Kind of like CSI with sci-fi elements, nice and thrilling watch. Cops who don't suck and a lot of scheming on all sides make it fun and interesting. The main character has that perfect mix of badass and cute going on. Caution: like Tokyo Ghoul, this suffers from 'frustrating sequel syndrome'.  No seriously, season 2 p.ssed me off so much I’m still not over it but I still have to include this here because I am in love with the first one.
Bungou Stray Dogs
Tumblr media
Beautiful, beautiful character designs and overall animation, I had a blast watching it. The series starts swiftly and catches your attention instantly. It's pretty much action driven but I also really enjoyed learning about the character's relationships. As an exception to the rule, it has actually absolutely fantastic season 2 where many questions were answered, character's motives explained and it left you wanting more.
Code Geass
Tumblr media
Great characters, but especially very interesting plot based on alternative history and “what-if” political situation. Amazing mecha action and Epic Hero Duo. D.Gray-man
Tumblr media
One of the few long series that caught my attention. Good visuals evolving for the better still, later in the series. Some nice characters to root for, very touching main character arc. Katekyo Hitman Reborn
Tumblr media
Same as above plus bonus points for the mafia flick. Dozens of amazing characters. Baccano!
Tumblr media
Mafia done a bit more realistically than above but still so over the top, but in a good, amusing way. Amazing visuals, absolutely thrilling story. Amazing soundtrack and fight scenes. Vintage is the new black. Higashi no Eden
Tumblr media
Mix of crime and politics with the underlying feeling of impending doom which is in contrast with super cute animation and main character that you’ll just want to hug. Zankyo no Terror
Tumblr media
See above plus Sigur Rós. Dream come true series. Sad af. Shingeki no Kyojin
Tumblr media
Very thrilling, very catchy. Likable characters and very nice animation. I didn’t know what’s the big deal about this until I watched it and saw for myself. Tokyo Ghoul
Tumblr media
…this one was an ordeal. Especially because of the second season. Doves were horrible. Fight scenes were funny. Ghouls themselves are…a mystery. Yet. It’s dark and gore-y and Kaneki is just one hell of a protagonist. Addictive shit. Sighs.
Tsubasa: Tokyo Revelations
Tumblr media
Honorable mention because it’s so much better than the longer series. My two fave characters in one OVA together with my other two fave characters. Beautiful animation like hello. Ouran Koukou Host Club
Tumblr media
One of the classics. Great characters, perfect mix of funny, cute and serious. The Best Representation of twins in modern media ever. Lovely Complex
Tumblr media
Story about me if I ever were lucky with any of my crushes. Very funny, very cute, Made me very emotional, too. Kimi ni Todoke
Tumblr media
So sweet your teeth will rot. Will leave you with a smile on your face. You will fall for the main characters. I know I did. Yuri!!! on ICE
Tumblr media
Beautiful animation and soundtrack. Breathtaking, honestly. Amazing characters, you will cheer for everyone. Gravitation
Tumblr media
Yuki might seem cold as ice(ha) at first but you will still fall for him. Classic of the genre. 90’s as heck and beautiful. Made me cry too.

For the first half of this, I think Fushimi's probably more in the category of needing glasses to see things clearly, in episode 5 of season one he loses his glasses but still seems to do fine dodging Yata's attacks until he's able to pick them up again (though on the other hand Munakata's also supposed to have 'severe myopia' but he still manages to fight Mikoto fine without them for a bit as well so...). There's also that Gakuen K CD drama with the physical check up where Fushimi and the others walk in Munakata having a vision test and Fushimi says his vision isn't as bad as Munakata's, I tend to lean towards Fushimi being able to see without his glasses but not well, like everything is fuzzy but he can tell where he is and who's in front of him.
If he did have really bad vision and lost his glasses for a day, just imagine him being so pissed off at the fact that he has to have someone at his side all day helping him out, he probably couldn't do any work since he couldn't see the computer and at least once he starts giving orders to a random houseplant because he thought it was one of the alphabet squad. Munakata of course takes it upon himself as a fellow glasses wearer to help Fushimi out and volunteers to be his helper for the day, Fushimi just grumbles the whole time because Munakata keeps holding onto his arm and warning him about things that even Fushimi can see, like wait Fushimi-kun there's an obstacle in our way turn right and Fushimi's like it's one of the vans Captain, I can actually tell that's there it's huge. Munakata also accompanies him to purchase new glasses and has many suggestions as to what type of glasses would most perfectly suit Fushimi's face, he is particularly fond of these nice silver wire frames that just so happen to look exactly like the ones Munakata wears. Fushimi has a terrible mental image of himself with his hair all styled like Munakata's while wearing Munakata-esque glasses and sparkling and he immediately requests another pair of thick-framed nerd glasses thanks.
Glasses-stealing Strain would be terrible, please think of all us poor bespectacled types who would be wandering around in misery :0 Homra would actually be surprisingly hard hit by that one: Kusanagi, Kamamoto and Bandou are all distressed at the loss of their sunglasses, it's the greatest tragedy Homra's ever faced since that incident with the hat-stealing Strain. Everyone else is teasing them like oh Bandou you have eyes after all and meanwhile there's poor Dewa in the corner also being teased as he tries not to run into things and being like you assholes mine were actually prescription. Kusanagi is probably more dangerous without his glasses because now everyone can see his eyes and his charm points increase to dangerous levels, Awashima enjoys the flirting even more than usual that day. Elsewhere at Scepter 4, Munakata has instituted a Code Clear, ordering all members who wear glasses to band together for their own safety until the tragedy passes. Fushimi ends up stuck together with Munakata and a very nervous Enomoto, Munakata assures them that together they will survive the day without their glasses (Fushimi would be more encouraged by that if Munakata wasn't talking to one of the computers at the time). Enomoto is also highly distressed because as president of the glasses club he feels his honor is being infringed upon, he's also very worried that without glasses he's now so plain no one will remember who he is. In another part of the building Kuro is acting as a seeing eye cat for Zenjou and Yayoi, who are holding hands and following the cat around the filing room and it's super cute.
