Agustí Villaronga (1953 - 2023)

The director from Mallorca passed away last Sunday. A unique director, an outsider in the Spanish cinema, just as interested in the darkness of the human soul as in the turbulent history of the country. An author who bravely deals with homosexuality and the weight of religious repression. An educated, elegant man, always restrained and very attentive to journalists and film fans. A big loss to Spanish and European cinema.

I’ve not seen this move but I think the Willy’s Wonderland pinball machine in that video might actually be a rethemed Devils Dare pinball machine from Gotlieb

The one from the movie is on the left, and the original Devils Dare pinball machine is on the right. Notice how they have the same exact game layout.

Movies do this all the time for 2 reasons.

When they need a machine with an in-universe theme it is significantly cheaper to replace the art on a pinball machine than it is to make a new one from scratch.

when u are a guy who is super normal about his boss and also his boss' wannabe arch-nemesis (more terror text post memes)

In this respect the film is reminiscent of the Stephen King novella “Apt Pupil,” adapted to the screen in 1998 by Bryan Singer, in which an adolescent discovers that an old man living in his neighborhood is a Nazi war criminal, and, rather than expose him, blackmails him into recounting his Nazi crimes in all their vivid detail.
