Well, Kuldip Sahota is very clearly one hell of a stuck up, humour free busy body. How on earth anyone could get upset by such an inane remark is beyond me. He needs to get a life.

I suppose that if the Tory candidate had used the traditional phrase “talking through his hat”, the pompous Mr Sahota would have claimed that he was being racist because as a Sikh, he knows perfectly well that he doesn’t wear a hat for religious reasons.

In the interest of fairness I’d like the scrupulously fair, gentle and kind Mr Sahota to make an address on TV defending his party’s awful record on anti-semitism.

Les fabricants d'insuline se préparent au pire scénario pour le Brexit

Deux dirigeants des plus grands fabricants d'insuline au monde, Sanofi et Novo Nordisk, ont expliqué à l'agence de presse Reuters leurs plans à trois ans afin de garantir l'approvisionnement du Royaume-Uni en cas de Brexit sans accord.

Alors que le Royaume-Uni doit quitter l'Union européenne (UE) fin octobre, Pinder Sahota, directeur général de Novo Nordisk au Royaume-Uni, et Hugo Fry, son homologue chez Sanofi, sont devenus des experts en routes commerciales maritimes et aériennes, lois sur les transports et capacités de stockage.

Les deux entreprises ont dépensé des millions de livres -qu'elles ne pourront pas récupérer- pour pouvoir stocker des millions d'unités d'insuline en Grande-Bretagne et renforcer leurs opérations dans le pays.

Alors que l'ensemble de l'insuline consommée par les Britanniques est importée, Novo Nordisk a triplé ses capacités afin de stocker l'équivalent de 18 semaines d'approvisionnement, soit 3,8 millions d'unités d'insuline. L'américain Lilly et Sanofi disposent de stocks similaires.

"C'est sans précédent d'un point de vue logistique", a considéré Pinder Sahota. "Nous nous préparons au pire des scénarios", a-t-il ajouté.

Le premier ministre britannique, Boris Johnson a promis de sortir de l'UE avec ou sans accord d'ici le 31 octobre, rappelle-t-on.

Selon les experts, des perturbations d'approvisionnement seront inéluctables en cas de sortie sans accord (cf dépêche du 12/08/2019 à 14:14). Les contrôles et tarifs douaniers pourraient également perturber le transport des médicaments, voire entraîner un blocage des ports et mettre en péril l'importation de médicaments (cf dépêche du 19/08/2019 à 16:21).

Le gouvernement britannique a expliqué que des camions cherchant à entrer en Europe dans le port de Calais (Pas-de-Calais) pourraient être retardés de deux jours et demi, créant de potentielles ruptures d'approvisionnement pouvant durer des mois, dans le pire des cas.

Cela pourrait avoir des conséquences importantes pour l'industrie pharmaceutique, qui importe 37 millions de médicaments depuis l'Europe par mois. Les trois quarts empruntent cette voie maritime franco-britannique.

Pour pallier les possibles retards et éviter les embouteillages à Calais, Sanofi et Novo Nordisk ont réservé des espaces sur des ferries empruntant un itinéraire plus long vers les ports de l'est de l'Angleterre ainsi que des capacités de fret aérien.

Novo Nordisk mise notamment sur les voies maritimes Danemark-Immingham et Pays-Bas-Immingham.

"Dans le cas des produits pharmaceutiques, vous ne pouvez pas simplement jeter des objets sur un bateau ou un camion, vous devez tester et valider ces itinéraires", a expliqué Hugo Fry.

Les laboratoire consacrent d’importantes ressources à ce dossier et passent en conséquence moins de temps à leur travail normal.

"Quand nous faisons cela, nous ne faisons pas d'autres choses", a déclaré Hugo Fry. "Nous ne travaillons pas sur des projets qui apporteront nos produits les plus innovants sur le marché."

"Bien que nous soyons heureux de le faire, gérer ce stock supplémentaire commence à peser sur notre bilan, notre logistique. Ce n'est pas une situation idéale", a estimé le patron de Sanofi UK.

Les laboratoires ne peuvent par ailleurs pas répercuter les coûts supplémentaires liés au Brexit sur les prix de leurs produits, en raison des contrats fixes définis avec le gouvernement britannique.

Ils sont toutefois convaincus de pouvoir garantir l'approvisionnement en insuline pour le million de diabétiques du pays.

"Nous faisons tout ce qui est en notre pouvoir pour veiller à ce que l'approvisionnement en médicaments et en produits médicaux reste ininterrompu, y compris en insuline", a déclaré le département britannique de la santé et des services sociaux.

Le gouvernement a assuré réserver des transports réguliers pour les médicaments dans le cadre de ses préparatifs en vue du Brexit.
