The Prince & The Fairy Chapter 1 - Season 2

Pairing: “Sky x Male Reader

A/N: Chapter 1 of season 2 is here. I’d like to credited #nathandrakelover. For the ice scream and healing in this fic

Y/N, Bloom, and the rest of the Fairy student body were in the Stone Circle, as Rosalind taught today’s lesson at Alfea as the new headmistress. It was Y/N’s sophomore year at Alfea, and it was nothing like last term. It was like they were in the Hunger Games or something. It was no longer about embracing your power and controlling it. No, it was about getting the results. No matter how bloody or painful it was.

Bloom and Y/N stood on the opposite side of Marco, a graduated Air Fairy who led the battalion against the Burned Ones. Marco had two electricity balls in his right hand as he awaited Rosalind’s orders. The elder Fairy began her lecture on the new way to achieve power magic. “Your emotions are a tool. Nothing more, nothing less.” She looked around at all the Fairy students. “They’re a power source. You’ve been told to control them.” Marco nodded his head as Y/N and Bloom had a snowflake and fire in their right hands, respectively.

“That isn’t always the best option.”

Marco sent both attacks at Y/N and Bloom as he put out their magic like a birthday candle. It hurt like hell as the students ‘Oohed.’ Y/N shook his hand at the numbing feeling. “In combat, you’ll need to rely on instinct.” They summoned their power again, but it hurt a bit. Marco attacked again as Y/N grunted. “You’ll need to let go,” Rosalind said. The Air Fairy kept hitting them over and over again as it became more and more difficult to maintain control of their powers and not let them burst free. That’s what Rosalind wanted. For them to let go.

Bloom did better at holding back then, Y/N, as she bellowed towards Marco, eyes ablazed as she had two orange spheres of energy in both her hands. Rosalind waited to see what she would do as she stopped her stride, called off her powers, and walked over to Musa, who put a comforting hand on her shoulder. Rosalind nodded as Marco sent an even bigger ball of energy at Y/N and this time, he snapped. “STOP!” His eyes were a light blue color as the vibrations from his voice froze in rings as they flew towards Marco and sent him flying; Y/N’s voice echoing through them. An ice echo. Last time he had frozen him solid. This time, however; he had not.

“That’s when you find true power,” Rosalind said.

Y/N felt heat creep on the back of his neck. That was embarrassing. He called back his magic. He was done being Rosalind’s show pony for the day.

After the dismissal of class, Rosalind brought Y/N and Bloom into her office, formerly Ms. Dowling’s office, to discuss their evaluations amongst the students of Alfea. “The middle of the pack. Been evaluating students over the past month and that’s where you both landed.”

“It’s better than the bottom, right?” Bloom asks.

“We’re trying our best.” Y/N told her.

“Bullshit. You both transformed last year. Turned the school upside down looking for answers. You’re both powerful. This is a choice.”

“A choice not to lose control. I came here to learn control and now you’re telling me to loosen my hold over my powers?” Y/N looked at Rosalind as she rolled her eyes. “Control limits you. I thought you’d do anything to keep Sky safe, Y/N.”

“Not at the expense of hurting ourselves or other people. I will protect Sky with all my powers the right way. Not by going ballistic with no control.”

“Like today in the Stone Circle with Marco? You unleashed powerful magic without even trying. Imagine what you could do if you’d simply let go.”

“Yeah, I’ve seen what happens when you ‘let it go.’ Trust me it ain’t pretty, Y/N joked.

“I am preparing you both to fight the dangerous threats that exist here. The Burned Ones were nothing compared to what’s outside the barrier. Even this realm,” Rosalind said.

“You keep saying that and yet we haven’t seen a threat since we took down the Burned Ones,” Bloom said.

“They’ll come, eventually. And the sooner you both realize that the old regime is gone and embrace the new one. The better off we’ll all be.” Rosalind stood from her chair as she walked out of her office.

Y/N looked at Bloom and sighed.

…..

“Rosalind’s gonna get someone killed.”

Y/N, Bloom, and Aisha walked down the busy corridor filled with students. New and returning ones. “Like, is it just me or has she gotten meaner in the past few weeks?”

“I think it might be the new haircut,” Aisha jokes.

“Channeling that much magic under stress is dangerous. Most of the students aren’t ready,” Y/N says.

“I mean, if it hurts us, it’s gonna hurt them more.” Bloom held up her right hand with the ice pack for emphasis.

“Pretty sure Rosalind doesn’t care unless she gets results. How long are you guys going to hold back?” Aisha asked.

“We’re not gonna kill ourselves for her sake. As far as I’m concerned. She’s not headmistress. Miss Dowling is,” Y/N said. “I think we go on a road trip this weekend. We hit a few towns nearby. We can just see if anyone’s seen her.” They’ve tried this for months now. Ever since the new school year started, but they've found nothing.

Aisha sighs. “Y/N, Bloom… I wanna Dowling just as badly as you do, but the entire Solarian Army has been searching for months.”

“And? What if they just don’t know where to look?” Bloom countered. “Or what if she’s still in hiding somewhere?” Aisha gives them a doubtful look. “Look. All we’re saying is that this…” Y/N points around. “...this is temporary. All of it.”

“We’re gonna get this school back to the way it was.” Aisha looks at them for a moment as she moves her head to the right and smiles at Y/N. “Don’t look now, but you’ve got a lurker.” Y/N turns to see Sky standing across the room, leaning against the stonewall with his arms across his muscular chest. He’s wearing the new uniforms that Rosalind and Erendor picked out. They looked amazing.

Y/N shrugs his shoulders. “What a total creepo. I’m just gonna get a better look.” He walks off as Bloom calls out loudly. “Wear a condom!” Y/N blushes as Sky smirks down at his blushing boyfriend. “You know. I hate 99% of Rosalind’s changes, but these uniforms are… sexy.” Sky chuckles. “Well, if you play your cards right, I just might let you try it on.” He scoops Y/N up in his arms.

“Ooh. Is that before or after I strip it off you, Blue Eyes?” Sky captures Y/N’s lips with his own as he pushes him gently against the wall. They continue for a few moments before Sky pulls back. “You cut your hair.” Sky’s hair was no longer long coiffed peaks like a gold helmet. It has been cut short on the sides and back into a fade that was long at the top and a little bit curly. Sky ran a nervous hand through his hair. “D-Do you like it?”

“I love it.”

“You know, Erendor says that I should stay away from you. He says that you’ll corrupt me with your…”

“...with my homoerotic tendencies?” Y/N smiled.

“Something like that.” Sky and Y/N kiss again. They get more frisky as Sky’s hands travel up Y/N’s shirt, exposing some skin as Y/N tries to get him to stop. “Hey. Hey. Hey… we don’t want to get in trouble for public indecency now, do we?” Sky looks at him amused. His eyes are twinkling with mischief. “That would be quite the show for all of Alfea to witness. Seeing you take it so good for me. Might be worth the detentions or expulsion we’d receive.”

“Who knew you were such an exhibitionist, Blue Eyes.” Y/N smiled.

Sky laughed as kissed Y/N once more. “I’m headed to practice in a few minutes. Care to come watch me?”

“And risk making Erendor mad? I’m in,” Y/N said. “Just let me head back to the dorms and get my jacket.”

“Alright, Baby Boy. I’ll see you out there.” They separate as Sky heads to the training grounds as Y/N walks back to their dorms.

He passes by a smirking Bloom and Aisha as he walks up the marble steps and towards the Specialist’s Wing dorms. Erendor had wanted to separate the Specialists and the Fairies. Saying it made all students weaker to be around each other, but Rosalind disagreed. She liked how the living arrangements were and decided to keep them the same way, but added more students together. It was honestly the only good thing she’s done for Alfea. Besides the uniforms. He walked down the hallway towards his dorm as he and his suite mates of last term were moved into a bigger suite with new rooms.

Y/N opens the door as he sees an almost naked young man in a blue speedo standing in the middle of the room. His back is turned towards him as he’s looking down at someone. “How’s it look, Sam?”

The young Ice Fairy frowns. “Umm… Sam?” The young man who’s wearing the blue speedo turns and gives Y/N a perfect view of Sam… on his knees?! “Am I interrupting something? Should I go?”

Sam’s head poked up as he looked at Y/N. “Y/N! Umm, don’t be ridiculous. Nothing’s going on.” It then dawned on Sam how this must look to his best friend. Him on his knees in front of a speedo covered crotch. That’s not what was going on at all. The Earth Fairy blushed hard.

The young man smiles down at Sam. “Oh, don’t be shy, Sammy. You can tell him what’s going on between us. Tell him about how you were just about to give me a blowjob.”

“WHAT?!” Y/N’s eyes widened.

Sam blushed harder as he stood up. “Shut up, Grey!”

Grey chuckled as he looked at Y/N, his hand outreached. “Grey Owens.”

Y/N shook his hand with his own. “Y/N Peters.”

“Grey’s our new Specialist roommate.” Sam explained.

“Ah… I see. But that doesn’t explain what you guys were doing when I came in.”

Sam blushed. “Grey wants to go for a swim and asked me which of his speedos looked best.”

“So, what? You thought you’d get a closer look, hmm?” Y/N smirked. “If you’re going to experiment with your sexuality, Sam. Grey’s a good choice. Sexy too.”

Grey smiled. “You think I’m sexy?”

“Very, but unfortunately I’m taken, so there can never be an us.”

“Too bad. Would have been fun.” Grey and Y/N smirk at each other.

“Something tells me you didn’t come back to the suite to flirty with Grey, right?” Sam asked.

“Right. I came to get my jacket. I’m watching Sky’s practice.”

“I thought Erendor said no Fairies allowed during training,” Grey said.

“You’ll quickly learn that Y/N doesn’t take no for an answer.”

“Yeah, and you’re looking for a place to go swimming?” Y/N looks at Grey. He’s 5,11 with dark hair, brown eyes and white skin. He’s also muscular. “That’s right. The Specialist workouts are always crowded and tedious as hell.”

“I see. Well, there’s an amazing river close to the forest that my friend Aisha goes to all the time. You should check it out.”

“Thanks. I will.”

Y/N nods as he grabs his red jacket and slips it on as he heads for the door. “Welcome to the snake pit, Grey.”

“Thanks.”

….

Y/N makes it just in time to see the end of a sparring session between other Specialist students as they get off and Sky and Dane take center stage on the training mats. Erendor smirks. “The little prince and the upstarter. This should be good. First blood.”

Sky looks worriedly at his not-so-dead father, king of Eraklyon. First blood? He can’t be serious. “You worried about staining your new outfit?” Sky scoffs. “Maybe home economics is more your speed? Is that what Saul taught? Did he wear an apron?” He mocks Sky.

“Come on, man, let’s just do it. We’re not gonna hurt each other,” Dane says. He spins his sword. Sky sighed as Dane charged forward and jumped into the air as he swipes down as Sky blocks his strike. Dane tries two more times and on the last hit kicks Sky in the stomach. The young Prince stops another swipe as Erendor evaluates their match as he walks towards Riven and when he sees Y/N; he frowns. “Shouldn't you be inside with all the other Fairy boys?”

“Shouldn’t you be in a retirement home?” Y/N counters as Riven chuckles. Erendor frowns. “Odds?” He looks at Riven.

“Yeah, at first glance, it’s Sky’s to lose. Dane’s got shit to prove, though.” Dane and Sky grunt back and forth as the blonde boy really puts the pressure on the one with his sword strikes. “A lot of pressure.” Sky and Dane lock swords as Sky uses his superior strength to push Dane back. “Yeah, Sky will, uh, give him space. Let him think he’s winning, then find his opportunity to win.” Dane strikes as Sky spins and throws out his leg and kicks Dane. The younger boy charges as his attack is blocked as Sky slams the hilt of his sword into Dane’s stomach as his eyes narrow. Sky sweeps his legs and Dane falls underneath his weight. His sword falls out of his hands. “I give it three, two…” Sky swings down towards the fallen Dane as he blocks his sword with his hands on the hilt. “Nah. Thing is, this isn’t a first glance fight. Sky won’t draw blood. Dane on the other hand…” Dane push’s Sky forward and position’s his own sword against his side as Dane puts his heavy boot on it as he flicks it up, successfully drawing first blood as he cuts Sky’s uniform and his side as well.

Blood seeps out as Sky gasps and grabs his side. Riven looks at Erendor and smirks in a ‘Told ya so’ fashion. Dane chuckles at the fallen Prince as Y/N’s face is pale as he sees the gash on his boyfriend’s side. “SKY!” He runs towards the mats as he feels someone reach behind and grab his arm harshly. The young Ice Fairy turns and locks eyes with the king of Eraklyon. His eyes are dark with anger. “Don’t interfere, boy! Sky’s weakness will remain his own.”

Y/N frowned as his other hand had frigid air coming off of it as he clenched his fist as ice formed over it, successfully creating an ice fist replica of his own. He swung forward and punched Sky’s father hard enough in the face to draw blood as he fell on his ass. Riven busted out laughing and so did a few other students as Y/N leaned over the Specialist’s Headmaster. “That’s the first and last time that you’ll put your hands on me.”

The young man walks away as he gets on the mats and sinks down to Sky’s level. “Blue Eyes!” His wound is bleeding out as red dots drip on the floor as Y/N glances at Dane. The young Specialist’s smirking face is gone and replaced with fear as Y/N’s eyes glow a dangerous light blue.” “What the fuck, Dane!”

“I-I-I was just doing as we were instructed,” Dane protested.

“Yeah, well. Your Headmaster is a royal prick.” Y/N helped Sky to his feet as he walked him down the steps and towards the school as Riven walked beside them. “Want me to walk ahead and tell Terra to get everything ready?”

Y/N shook his head. “ No thanks, Riv. I got this one.”

“Of course, you do,” Riven said as Y/N and Sky walked back towards the school. He sighed. “Well, fuck me…” he chuckles.

Y/N helped Sky to their shared bedroom as he gently placed Sky on the bed. Once he’s sure he’s comfortable, he looks at his ruined outfit. “Take off your shirt, Sky,” Y/N commands.

Sky chuckles. “You first, Baby Boy.” Despite his pain, he’s still making lewd jokes about their current situation.

“Fine, I’ll take it off myself.” Y/N’s eyes glow as small snowflakes form around Sky’s shirt as they swirl around him, as his shirt is teleported to the floor below them. His golden abs and body were on full display and anyone who might walk in on them might get the wrong impression. Sam’s working his shift at the greenhouse and Grey is probably out swimming and Riven is back at the training grounds.

Sky just smiled. “Couldn't wait to get my shirt off could you.”

“This isn’t funny,” Y/N said.

“I know it’s not, but it’s the only thing keeping me from either angrily ranting or crying.”

“This is low. Even for him.” Y/N looks down at the wound. “It’s fine. I’m fine.” Sky winces as he shifts in bed. Y/N takes off his own shirt as well, much to Sky’s enjoyment and shock. “Ooh, does this mean that I get a private peep show?”

“In your dreams. I just figured it would be better if we were both shirtless to do this,” Y/N said.

“Do what?” Sky asked.

Y/N leaned down and carefully minded his legs as he straddled Sky’s hips as he kissed him softly on the lips to distract him as his hand traveled down towards Sky’s wound as he twitched his fingers and little tiny snowflakes came out. They moved towards Sky’s wound and he gasped against Y/N’s lips as it felt like someone was putting an ice pack on his gash. He shivered slightly as the snowflakes did their job and closed the opened wound until it was but nonexistent. Ice healing.

Y/N pulled back and smiled. “There. Good as new.” Sky notices the wound is gone, and the pain has stopped. “Thank you.”

“You’re welcome.” Y/N gets off of Sky as he sits next to him on the bed and snuggles close to his chest. “So… have you heard anything? About Silva’s trial in Solaria? I mean, there’s supposed to be news soon, right?”

“I dunno. And I don’t care,” Sky says without a care. This was a sensitive subject for him. The man who raised him tried to kill his dad. He pretended not to care, but Y/N knew that it was killing him inside. Before he could respond, there was a knock at the door. It was Beatrix with news about Silva.

Tbh doesn't charmix feels very out of place and like a last minute addition?

Like they earned it a few episodes from the final battle and it wasnt even mentioned or got hinted at the slightest

Also shouldn't Charmix and Enchantix would be common knowledge to fairies since Charmix boosts their base form and Enchantix makes them a full fledged fairy? Like I think everyone in the club except Bloom would know about a fairy form that makes them a full fledged fairy

I'm obsessed with the concept of Charmix bc transformation you get from character development appeals to me soooo much, but it's handled so terribly lolololl

Like you'd think once you get magic Winx people would be constantly looking at self help books or something to get Charmix XD

S2 is all ABOUT learning about the characters and watching them develop and it's a damn shame that Charmix wasn't integrated better, like imagine Musa getting her Charmix at the end of her concert bc she followed her mom's advice??? That would be so cute!! And it would have nothing to do with Riven

I love my boy, but Musa has a life outside of him and the show tested my last nerve with the way she got her Charmix

And then it disappears in s3. Tbh I've always been of the opinion that Charmix should have been its own transformation, the concept of a power up adds nothing to the show except less things to design

Yeah everyone should have been well aware, it's like when no one but Bloom knew what a pixie was because Bloom accidentally met one. Like this stuff should be common knowledge

But like, quite frankly the show is bad, and I love it for that because it's fun to fix it and it's hilarious, so like after the first time none of them know something that should be well known I just gave up on the concept outside of pithy comments in my live blogs

The show has literally no concept of genuine world building. It has a facade of a place and never thought through the consequences

Anyways Charmix isn't even a transformation to me, she's my baby girl

POSSIBLY UNPOPULAR WINX SEASON 9/REBOOT OPINIONS

I know I am late talking about this but a while ago this promo image of Winx season 9/the Winx reboot popped up on the internet. I had a rant before about not liking the new transformation designs. In my opinion the original Magic Winx designs are much better and I will never understand why they want to change it as every design suited each fairy so perfectly. The new wing designs are much more generic and boring too. The crowns are pretty, yes, but it looks like everyone gets a crown now, taking away from the uniqueness of the individual designs. Or, they did it because everyone is a princess now, something I think would also be a bad choice. As much as I love the designs and differences between the kingdoms in the Magic Dimension, I thought it was a good thing not every Winx was royalty, showing that you do not necesarily need to be a princess to be special. Yet, for the girls who are princesses, the stories and how each girl deals with the responsibility of being a princess was very interesting. All these unique stories are part of what made Winx so good and interesting. The bags they wear in the new transformation designs I personally just do not like, as in my opinion it does not look so 'fairy-like'.

On to the casual outfits;

First the positives. Even though overall I am very unhappy with these designs, there are things I do like! Mainly, the hairstyles. I love how Bloom has her messy hair back. Flora gets to keep her original hair too, a style that just looks wonderful on her. Musa's buns are super cute, I love how it gives a nod to her season 1 hairstyle. Tecna looks fabulous. As much as I love Layla/Aisha's original curles, I think she looks great with braids too! The only thing I think that is wrong with the hairstyles is that Stella has no bangs. I want Stella's bangs back!

I also like that there seem to be different face shapes, making each girl more unique. A great choice I think! Their heights and body types seem to vary now too. Something I think could be a nice touch too! I always imagined Layla/Aisha and Stella to be tall, I think it suits them! Musa looks super cute short! I only would have liked it if Bloom was shorter too, as I always imagined her that way. But that could be subconcious shameless self-projection too, as I am short and always recognised a lot of myself in Bloom. Also I would just love to see more short main characters in general hahaha

Now the negatives, mainly, the outfits. To be completely honest. I hate them all. Some have some good elements but they are just.... too much. More is not always more. In this case, more just is a mess. I think they also do not fit the original Winx vibe at all. Where are the crop tops? I want the crop tops back! Especially for Bloom crop tops were such a recognisable element of her style.... I think out of all of the girls, Bloom's reboot outfit here is the worst. It looks awfully messy and childish. There is way too much going on. Sometimes less is more. There are way too many patterns. Bloom is not wearing the outfit. The outfit is wearing Bloom. This especially hurts as Bloom has always been my favourite fairy. They did her sooo dirty. I am scared they might have put her in flat shoes too.... The girl just needs her heels! Lastly, why so much pink. Where are the blue shades that made her outfits so iconic? I hate it.

Almost everyone wears a lot of pink now, again taking away from the girls' individualities. Pink is a pretty colour, but using it this way does simply not work. Especially with Stella it is a problem. Stella does not look like Stella. Stella looks like Barbie. Now there is of course nothing wrong with Barbie, but please give Stella back her oranges and greens. It made her stand out! Now she looks so generic and like she is a copy of Barbie....

I love how Flora has this 70's vibe going on. But they just piled too much on top of each other, something that is a problem with a lot of the reboot outfits. I do like that Flora has her hoop earrings again.

Tecna's outfit is not awful, but her original is way better in my opinion. I do like how her outfit still looks futuristic. I will just not understand why each leg of her leggings has a different colour. I also think the fabric wrapping around her arm looks messy. I do like the material of her skirt. Also, give Tecna her purples back.

I like that Layla/Aisha has this sporty vibe going on but.... oof. The way they coloured her outfit is once again... messy. It does not look cohesive. It looks so random. Why oh why. I like the shape of her cropped (yay!) top/hoodie but there just is something wrong with that skirt I cannot quite put my finger on.

I think colour scheme wise, Musa is the least awful. I think it was a good choice to put her in pants, Musa has always had a bit more of a tomboyish vibe in the original three seasons, I think that suits her so well! But again. I am missing the crop top. And again, there is too much going on. Now I don't say everyone always has to wear a crop top at all times, but more crop tops would definitely help create that original Winx vibe.

I will never understand why they keep trying to fix things that are not broken. I so wholeheartedly hope these outfit designs will still change a lot and that the girls will at least get their original personalities back in this reboot, but after seeing these outfit designs I am mostly just scared. I wish it wasn't cgi animation too, the 2D animation of the original seasons was much more expressive and so so beautiful and unique, even with animation mistakes. At least this cgi looks better than the season 5+ cgi....

Musa with short hair or long hair?

Like i cant imagine her Enchantix form without long hair cause it suits well. But I feel like they could have done it like Tecna you know. Long in transformation short in de-transformation?

Short hair, it just fits her more, though I agree that I can’t see her Enchantix (or any transformation post s3 tbh) with short hair that’s why in my rewrite I did the whole, hair transforms when using her Enchantix form

I finally did it y'all content we've all been expecting HGXSCGFCGS honestly I enjoyed this so much I added some more characters and some more xDdd as a result we got EREN ARMİN JEAN REİNER FALCO PORCO MARCEL AND ZEKE!!!

Eren:Watches Winx incredibly in secret xD You no way wont know how much of a raging fan he is xD As for their fave I feel like season1-3 eren could like Bloom or Musa cuz they had the most parental issues and they were SLİGHTLY emo xD but season 4 Eren is a deff Trix staner maybe Icy lol (İn a modern day au fights with Zeke to roleplay as Bloom xDD)

Armin:He is actually quite comfy of what he watches, even if he were to get bullied because of 'Winx being a girl show bla bla' he simply enjoys what he enjoys duh.And their fave is:Floraaaa, Armin is a soft soft soft sweet boy AAAAAH <3 Either flora or maybe at season 4 Technaa

Jean:Just like Eren will watch is quite sneaky and you wont know how much they like Winx until it comes up in a fight with Eren xD And their fave?Musa for aesthetic reasons xD -She has looong black hair ;) - Ok I always had a hc of Jean liking slightly harsh woman so in a modern Au he is most likely to be into that Goth stuff? So maybe he has always been a secret Trix stan ???

Marcel:Ok,imagine at one point he owned one of those pink Winx pencil shaped erasers (if you lose one piece of it just throw away type of useless ones xD)he kept under his bed and Porco accidently found it lol his first thought is 'Is my brother gay????' xD and he too likes it a lot he just keeps the eraser to himself xDD (And thats the story of how Porco began to watch Winx xD) Just imagine the silent panic of poor Marcel being exposed after losing the eraser??? xDD Anyways his favorite fairy would be Aisha??? Cuz she is so beautiful?? High case has a crush on his fave xD

Zeke:Watches it for boobies and butts even when he was a kid OwO XDDD.He tries to explain his friends that real manly man would watch Winx Club because of hot girls xD Starts watching because of that and gets carried away by actual plot xD İn a modern au might encourage Eren to watch it because he knows how much he likes it AHSHXASXVBX As a result I can see them screaming 'Enchantix' at house and act like they are transforming xD As for his fave its ROXY OF COURSE xD she is the fairy of animalss!! so while yall are waiting for the season 4 rewrite and wizards redesigns I've decided to post some ideas i had for a remake if fate the Winx saga. I've been working on a sort of rewrite but i gave up on it long ago because the point of that rewrite was to keep everything as intact as possible and still tell a good story.

long story short i failed : D miserably

so all my ideas amounted to was a few mood boards of the girl's looks, il run you through them :3

Bloom :

her casual form is quite simple and monochromatic, I like to imagine my version of Bloom fixated on the idea of fairies so much that it became a sort of coping mechanism. thinking of herself as a fairy as a sort of confidence boost has been her go to so her look includes lots of pastels, cute skirts , simple shapes and butterfly motifs. her whole point is : mi like fairies , mi want to look cute :3.

her fairy form is low key a funny story XD basically in my cancelled rewrite, the only thing you get when you transform are your wings. making your outfit is a requirement in order to become a guardian fairy. its sort of like a uniform. it actively shows that you're using your magic and what your here to do. its not taken lightly. a fairy transforming to fight basically means: u, my friend, are fucked :D

this is done ether during your fairy education or right before graduation. and since in my version Enchantix vanished a long time ago, any Enchantix fairies lost the power and any fairies in training have lost the hope of receiving it your base form is treated like your final form since for many fairies of that past, it was. all fairies thus are told

"make your fairy form fancy as shit, people gatta look at you and piss themsleves bc of how badass you looks"

but since Bloom didn't get the memo she made hers incredibly simple, which low key makes her a laughing stock in Alfea. my plan was to use this to deepen hers and Stella's bond since ide like to imagine Stella would help her redesign her outfit XD also I'm diversifying the body types, Bloom is now skinny fat

her form very closely based off of her OG form bc of that since their base form was quite simple.

Stella :

her casual form is very in line with the types of things her og counterpart would wear, since in my version Solaria would be called the crescent queendom with fate version of Luna running it. were keeping the whole her mom is abusive thing but where changing a few things.

Stella grows into her own in the Winx club and thus begins showing off her sunny disposition which in a moon queendom is looked down upon. but her outfits would do a 180 once her mom is present. she's suddenly in dark blues, purples ,and silver.

her fairy form is her trying to morph herself to be exactly what her mother wants, everything is moon themed. again dark blues and silver everywhere. Also i changed her body type to being Chubby bc yes :3

Flora :

she's pretty straight forward, her fairy form and casual form follow the same theme of nature. I just made her main colour for her casual form sage while her transformation pink just like in the OG. also I kept her plus sized bc plus sized Flora was a great idea, and than they white washed her :,)

in terms of her fairy form, I leaned in to the cute pink girl horror rpg asthetic aka pocket mirror. i want her to be as custey as possible bc

Musa :

oh boy her casual form was fun : D , i hate how they feminised her in the later seasons and took this as an opportunity to go FULL IN to the alt fashion she was meant to wear uwu she a lil alt girlie, she's quirky like that uwu.

her fairy form is based more on her culture but still has the edge of her alt fashion sense ^^ I've decided to keep her as skinny since most of the cast now are leaning heavily to the plus sized of the spectrum, I thought ide include the skinny girls in here too ^^ and when i say Skinny i don't mean an hour glass, i mean no boobs, no butt, no nata.

Tecna :

i decided to dive into the hacker aesthetic but make it fairy :3 her wings ( in her base form at least) don't flap, they put her body into a 0G state which allows her to "fly". lots of neon lights with her uwu

her casually outfits are just generally geometric. also i decided to make her thin but to an unhealthy degree. perhaps she could be dealing an illness and we could explore how she feels being mostly in solitude for most of her life :p

Aisha :

she's basically the sporty girl aesthetic incarnate. lots of neutral tones with hints of green and pink :D her basic form is simply meant to be kind of mermaid inspired, also ide like to imagine her Enchantix would give her afro with cute water drops in it and pearls :3

Jesus that was long. anyhow as stated, this rewrite isn't being made anymore bc I've concluded that my challenge wouldn't work. keeping most of it intact and making it good would just simply result in a decent at best show. and us in the Winx fandom aren't going for just fine were going for MAJESTIC UWU

Okay, so I am watching season 5 and I won't hide my opinion on it

Episode 5x2

1stly I have to say, that watching this gives me physical pain. 😂 s4 was super duper good compared to this. But let's start with ep 2:

Let Musa sing, Bloom!

➡ honestly, it looks and feels so wrong to see the actual fairy of music with the angelic voice being reduced to a random band member

➡ Layla however fits the part of a drummer imo

I love how these guardian selkies are super useless but I have to admit, they're kinda cute. Better than the ugly pets anyway. And they have a task to fulfill and therefore and excuse to be in the show

also why is Tritannus' trident just lying there? shouldn't someone like..store it somewhere instead of letting it lie there in the dungeons on the floor?

also idk what happened to the Trix but the imprisonment must have been so traumatic to them that Icy suffers from a strong out-of-character sickness

➡ everyone knows this, but I'll say it again and again: Icy was totally disgusted by Valtor turning into a monster at the end of s3 and now Tritannus does it and now she's like cool💗

awawawa look at my girls' little faces (but it would've been way funnier if only Icy was the one who looked like that and Stormy and Darcy being 😒)

Layla finds out that Tritannus disturbed the coronation of his brother and is like: WHY DOES HE DO SOMETHING SO HORRIBLE?

➡ firstly: is it really that horrible to disturb a coronation? i mean it's not nice but HORRIBLE? isn't it rather horrible that a father imprisons his own son? And 2ndly do you really wonder about that when you too call Tritannus your psycho cousin? I'm afraid I'll found the Tritannus-Defense-Squad simply because everyone treats him like shit and this even though I don't really know what to think about him lol but this is so unfair

The oil floods the ocean ➡ Tecna: COME ON I HAVE TO FILM THIS! (this might be poorly translated in the German dub since she says in the nickelodeon version, that they had to document it but I find it kinda funny imagining Tecna to be someone who films straight away tragic events. There is car accident? WHERE IS MY CAMERA?)

another thing that makes me wonder if the script writers have actually ever thought about anything is why the oil can't harm the trix but tritannus? Any ideas? no? ok

Stormy: This guy could be our way out of here – Icy: This guy could be the guy for me ➡ stop thinking with your vagina, Icy. that’s so not you (seriously what happened during their imprisonment???)

it's kinda cute how concerned the trix look when tritannus attacked the selkies. It's not like they did the same things to the pixies already

Winx Club - Inconsistencies & Questions I have

I thought I’d list down some inconsistencies I’ve found in Winx Club, mainly because they are so busy making the show marketable. I may be an original fan but don’t think I didn’t notice these things. Feel free to add other inconsistencies you have noticed @cyithrel Seriously, if I rewrote Winx Club, I could add so many new headcanons.

Why was Stella on earth in the first episode? We never found that out.

For being such an emotional person, how come Bloom only discovers her powers at 16?

Is Flora a princess or not? In Magical Adventure she says she is. She was invited to Domino’s Restoration ceremony where I imagined people thought she was a princess but her parents are botanists.

Musa is not a princess but I’ve heard she was.

Tecna isn’t either but I swear she was one in the comics.

Why does Aisha’s name change per country. I grew up with the show in French so I met her as Layla but in English, she makes sense as Aisha.

Daphne. She doesn’t make sense either. In Nick, she wasn’t Bloom’s sister yet she is in the general canon. It makes sense if she was her guardian fairy or even fairy godmother. Why is she blonde if neither of her parents are?

Roxy may be a Winx but she also isn’t. She’s only a clear member in season 4.

Do people hate witches universally? And yet why is Cloud Tower a popular witch school if witches are hated? Or is there more to the lore that we just never got an explanation for. Maybe the witch hatred changes from planet to planet. Eraklyon for example, hates them.

Are fairies and specialists considered better? Because this would explain why partly why the Trix want to take over the magical dimension cause they’re tired of the mistreatment of witches.

The Trix are super inconsistent: originally they were supposed to be the Ancestral Witches made young but that was scrapped. If each Trix is fashioned after each ancestor (ie Lysliss is Icy, Darcy is Belladonna and Stormy is Tharma,) then it doesn’t make sense for the Trix to be sisters because that would mean each Trix is descended from three different lines. Are the ancestors even related?

The writing just adds new lore that just throws off or away established parts of the canon. Like Erendor being responsible for Domino’s destruction. That should have been revealed in season two and made Eraklyon be Bloom’s ally for its restoration.

Some of the transformations don’t make sense. Obviously they were added for marketing. Sirenix is an example of a lost transformations since Daphne and Politea were the last ones before the Winx. What tf about Bloomix or Mythix.

Mythix could be a transformation the Winx discovered. Or at least unlocked since the Great Dragon roamed the universe and fairies came to the universe. Eldora or Nebula didn’t seem to be aware there was a transformation attached to it.

Bloomix could be a new transformation… (Fucking named it after Bloom.) But then how would Faragonda know what it’s called. Maybe it’s a super rare transformation. Dragon Fire wielders might even rarely earn it.

I understand and even admire the concept of Enchantix being earned through a sacrifice for someone of your own planet. By why from someone from your planet specifically? Who was it that wrote Bloom could have sacrificed herself for someone on Earth since it’s practically her planet too. And how can I explain Tecna sacrificing herself for Andros. Either she’s part Andros (which could make her part mermaid 😁) or the rule isn’t as clear cut as Faragonda made it.

What’s Brandon’s deal? How did he get to be Sky’s squire. And why is he a squire? I swear he looks like he is better than Sky.

Where the fuck are all the boys from? I refuse to have them all be from Eraklyon. Timmy could be from Zenith too. Which leads me to wonder why are they just eye candy? Maybe it was just of the time.

Oh and about the girls’ ages. If we follow general convention that each season takes place a year apart from each other (making the girls 23 by season 8,) or we just count the years and take into account the years of hiatus which would make the girls around 30 by 2022.

Why are the Major fairies part of the lineup in season 4 if we only meet them after like episode 20? Diana, Morgana and Aurora could have been cool additions to the club. But what about Nebula. Seriously why are they there?

Does anyone remember a season 4 opening without the major fairies or just me? Because I swear it’s a thing.

Switching transformations should have been a thing since season 5 instead of insisting of staying with one or two transformations per season. For example; Enchantix is the baseline and can allow for some of the basics of other transformations (like allowing for magic underwater and breathing in space.)

What the fuck is with Nabu? He should have been back by now. I refuse to think he’s really dead when Morgana and Nebula promised said they’d watch him until he woke up again.

Why can Daphne control the elements? Is that a power an ex keeper of the dragon flame gets? I still feel like Bloom has other powers she hasn’t unlocked yet.

Flora… About her magic, she seems like her only power involves plants. If she’s the fairy of nature, she must have other powers or she needs to change her title, something more than fairy of flowers and maybe more specific than fairy of nature.

Stella. She’s barely got moon powers. Is her sun half more overpowering? And how does it work. I am starting to see why Nickelodeon decided to just let her go by Fairy of the shining sun.

Aisha: how did she decide on her diary title? How did she learn about Morphix. Can it affect water or Morphix its own thing. And can it be given away like the Dragon Fire?

Why are the Winx fighting Darkar before Valtor? It seems to me Darkar is more powerful and dangerous. It always comes back down to the Dragon Fire.

How does a magical being choose to be a fairy or a witch? Mirta was able to do and I remember another fairy moving to Cloud Tower. I just don’t remember her name.

Why is Eldora the only fairy godmother on Earth? Why did she choose Earth of all places. Does she know of the horror that happened there? Where is she from? Magic? She could be from Linphea. She should have been Flora’s fairy godmother, not Bloom’s.

Wtf is up with the Winx being students in seasons 5-8? Stella would not stand for this, she hates studying. She wouldn’t have agreed to do this unless she was forced. Is there a program at Alfea for Guardian Fairies that I don’t know of?

What’s with Tecna, Musa and Stella being fairy godmothers in those old introductory files on the Winx Club website. Apparently they’ve evolved since Enchantix. How does that happen? Is it because of their sacrifices being more dangerous than the other threes? It’s not a power thing. I know for a fact Flora is more powerful than those three.

i love bad tv so here are my takes on fate: the winx saga season 2 (spoilers)

This season was a Fucking Disaster with a lot of tiny gems.

Disaster:

Rosalind. Nothing Rosalind did this season made sense. It’s implied she knew Sebastian, so she probably knew about him being from Aster Dell, and she had that book (henceforth That Book), so she knew about the whole Realm of Shadows/resurrection deal. Those are not difficult dots to connect. Why would she not give Bloom as much information as she could gather regarding Bloom’s heritage/Aster Dell/etc? That information was, at the point Rosalind died, the only real leverage Sebastian had over Bloom! It’s not like Musa even wanted her magic back!

Aisha. I can’t believe I actually thought they were gonna do something character-arc-wise about Bloom not being able to use Aisha as a moral compass. I think the writers thought they were doing something by having Grey turn out to be a blood witch, but like... “confused teenager is born into a bad crowd and does what he can to mitigate the damage he does trying to get out” is not the “gotcha! Aisha’s judgement sucks!” they thought it was. That’s not Aisha having bad judgement, that’s just someone lying their balls off to her! And Aisha still comes in to save the day from Bloom’s hot-headedness, once again being her moral compass. The only good thing they did for Aisha’s character this season was that moment with Grey at the very end, where it looks like she might be wiling to move past her rigidity and towards comfort and grey (heh) areas.

Andreas. Useless character. Nothing important happened there. His death didn’t push Sky in a bad direction in any meaningful way, Beatrix didn’t get any good character development from his presence or his death, and he didn’t... really do anything plot-wise or character-wise. Waste of airtime. Andreas and Rosalind should’ve been combined into the same character - imagine all the places things could go if Sky’s long-dead mother turned out to be a) trapped in stasis by Saul and a mysteriously-missing Dowling, and b) way more interested in Bloom/the Dragon Flame than him?

Bloom’s Trial. NOTHING HAPPENED. THERE WERE NO CONSEQUENCES. THIS WAS FILLER. And filler is fine - unless you have a 7-episode season that has to introduce a new major antagonist, kill an old major antagonist, introduce a plot-important creature and how it functions, introduce a new secondary main character and her relationships, and develop the characters as the plot moves.

Dowling. Her coming back from the dead did nothing but confirm that she was, indeed, killed by Rosalind. The suitemates only needed that confirmation for Bloom’s sake, to get her off during the trial, and Dowling didn’t make her temporary appearance until afterwards, and when she did, she said nothing of import. There were other ways for the suitemates to learn to transform. Hell, what if they all transformed trying to give Musa her magic back with the convergence crystal? They’re all so united in their purpose and magic that they transform, and it’s The Power Of Friendship? They have fucking magical girl transformation sequences so you can’t tell me this is too cringe.

Bloom’s costume design. If you’re trying to make a 24 year old look 17, structured blazers and chunky gold jewelry is not the way to do it. Every time she had a blazer on, it unsuspended my disbelief.

Gems:

Musa. Musaaaaa. I absolutely love Musa’s arc. In s1, she’s so uncomfortable with her gift that she shuts everyone out in order to shut it out. She learns that if she connects with her power, she can help people! And she goes overboard on that and it destroys her relationship. The one aspect of her power that made it feel like power and not a noose around her neck, and using it ruins her relationship. The scene where she’s hiding from the scrapers and you can see her considering if it’s worth keeping hidden when the thing they want to take from her is such a curse - hell yes. Excellent narrative choice. And I also love how she’s visibly so much more comfortable in physical combat than in using her powers! She’s one of the only characters who seems to have grown at all this season, and I love her for it.

Flora. I wish we got more Flora! I think it would be very easy to take her in an extreme Mary Sue direction, and I do think she leaned that way, but I love that she’s an unrepentant flirt. I love that she argued with Terra for being so catty towards her. And I love that she forgave Terra and they ended up having a really sweet bond. I wish we’d heard a bit more about her life before Alfea, because I think it would’ve given her big noble sacrifice in the final episode more context. As it is, it seemed a bit out of the blue.

Beatrix and Stella. I love unrepentant - or in Stella’s case, occasionally repentant - mean girls, and their friendship this season was incredible. If Beatrix hadn’t met her end, I’d be rooting for her to become an honorary suitemate in s3 (or Stella’s gf). Their dynamic kept me watching this season.

Stella. Everything about Stella. Her haircut, her costumes, her standing up to her mother for Bloom, her hiding the gem and trying to yank it out herself, her Legally Blonde moment, her friendship with Beatrix, every word that came out of her mouth. I love her. She’s perfect. No notes.

Bloomix is kinda mid? To me??? I like the way it looks more than Believix

1) Bloom

I love the hair! I love different shades of blue??? The dark blue looks so good on her, and I'm absolutely obsessed with the straight up red hair. Her hairstyle fucks too, Bloom loves her braids fr fr. The scale pattern armor FUCKS severely, but the purple and magenta gems kinda suck ass ngl

Her wings fuck too, they look like a actual fire

2) Musa

I hate literally everything going on with the weird solid pink thing at the bottom, but it still looks amazing. She IS the moment. I wish the pinks were maybe blues? Her outfit could use some cold colors aside from her hair. While this is nothing I could imagine s1-3 Musa genuinely wearing it looks good

3) Stella

Stella looks like a sunset and I LOVE!! The shawl, the colors, the armor, the wings, the everything it's like a sun set!!! I wish there was more blue, and not ice blue?? Like use a cyan or something, but her hair. But the hair. I've been getting use to to it but I hate it. I'm always obsessed with Stella in purple so this, I love the magenta

4) Flora

Oof, those wings. Poor girl. And that top?? Helppppp. The shawl looks the best on her tho tbh, and her flower skirt + vine heels combo is cute. I like the flowers on her heels and in her hair, love seeing new hairstyles for Flora she looks so great. Her crown also looks so cute and personalized, love love. The heart leaf print on her leggings is so fucking adorable. Just that top, why??

5) Aisha

Aisha looks?? Fine. I hate the boob armor. They put literally zero effort into her wings and leggings. Her shawl is unique and interesting. They somehow decided that she needed to have lighter, nearly ginger, hair and with s8 I can only assume that's with bad intentions. Her wrist cuffs look super cool, her skirt looks awful, the collar of her top looks amazing, she has two weird tiny ass forward facing ponytails on the front of her head that I SWEAR no one else has noticed. It's solidly mid and not Sirenix

Please note that the TWO times they've changed Aisha's hair color for a transformation they made her blonde and a red head

6) Tecna

They put Tecna who wore a full body suit in magic winx when everyone else was wearing crop tops and mini skirts in a sweater, a UGLY sweater with an evil neckline at that, in the armor transformation???? The disrespect! Also they gave the fuck up on her wings

That sweater is so terrible why did you do this to my girl

At least the legging patterns are nice, like the heels too, the shawl is basically a worse version of Aisha's and I can't decide if I love or hate the hair but I'll take it

Helia is the only person Musa trusts enough to help write her songs

They bond over some very intense emotions they try to keep hidden and just having a lot of complex and confusing emotions

Aisha gets an tie dye outfit that's dark greenish teal and/or turquiose, with some white here and there, so it looks like seafoam or sunlight reflecting of ocean surface. Maybe similiar style as Winx club aisha’s original fairy form, expect perhaps a slitgly longer skirt so it flows a bit when she moves.

Bloom gets a short dress or a top and a mini skirt. The fabric is mostly lightl blue, but then turns blue, then purple, the white and yellow/orange, with darker/redder orange egdes. The skirt is tattered, and double layered, and longer on oneside than the other

Stella: shades of orange and yellow, or perhaps colours of the dawn (orange, yellow, pink and violet/lilac/whatever colour

Terra: different shades of green

Flora: diffrent shades of pink

Beatrix: white, grey lighblue, blue, indigo and purple,

Musa: purple and red.

From Jack the Ripper to Sheikh Abdullah

Passing by the narrow alleys of East London on a sunny Tuesday afternoon, I was awestruck by how London’s Whitechapel district remembers its anti-heroes.

A walk by the colourful graffiti walls in the most unlikely of London’s landmarks, the East End, is a lesson in history.

Veteran journalist of the BBC fame, Andrew Whitehead, gave me and seven other journalists from India, Pakistan, and Sri Lanka a walking tour of the East End, situated east of the Roman and medieval walls of the City of London and north of the River Thames.

During the walk, he informed us about the legacy of the area that has over the past 300 years been home to Huguenots, Jews, and Bengalis and seen cultural as well as visual transformation beyond imagination.

It was fascinating to find out how anti-heroes and anarchists had over the years developed more than a cult following in the East End.

Entering a small by-lane near the Whitechapel Gallery, I was surprised to see two of my favourites, Leo Tolstoy and Noam Chomsky on a black-and-white billboard of 36 anarchist figures hanging from a red-coloured wall.

Seeing the colourful graffiti and anarchist slogans shook me out of oblivion that despite better development and better policing compared to South Asia, there were people in London too who resent the state, the police, and the status quo.

The slogans of anarchism ‘Kill the cop, like kill them like sex f**k, like kill them f**k, just FYI. Boris would get it though’, ‘I don’t look sexy for your p**is’, ‘Not queer as in gay, queer as in f**k the Police’, ‘No Gods, no masters. All cops are bas****s.’ ‘Two-faced hypocritical, leeching, pancing, selfish, lowlife, scambags,’ ‘Hate cops, love donk’, ‘Tranquility, black magic, white angel, dead man walking, and ‘Pompey till I die’ clearly illustrated that these people want liberation from the “oppressive systems” of control from the state, religion, capitalism, racism, sexism, ableism, and speciesism.

Taking a stroll inside the Freedom Bookshop and Publishing House, I found several books about anti-heroes and anarchists like ‘The Slow Burning Fuse: The Lost History of the British Anarchists’ and realised how the legend is woven in London’s literary landscape.

The graffiti outside the bookshop was so eye-pleasing that my fellow journalist and friend from India, Aman Sharma could not resist taking a photograph in front of it. I reckon it can be a good profile picture for his social media accounts.

During the walk, we took a break for lunch and Sharma, two other fellow journalists from Pakistan Riaz-ul-Haq and Muhammad Iqbal Baloch along with me grabbed a lunch at East End’s bustling city centre. The aroma of fresh coffee along with the Indian, Chinese, Central Asian, and continental cuisine pointed at the rich diversity East End has to offer.

The openness of the people indulging in discussions over lunch exemplified why the anti-hero had become a legend in this area.

Returning to join the walk after lunch, I wondered how my native place Kashmir, a conflict-ridden region in the Himalayas, remembers its anti-heroes.

Sheikh Mohammad Abdullah, the former Prime Minister of Jammu and Kashmir, has a legendary status in the region for the radical land reforms of providing “land to the tiller”.

However, he is also held responsible for the sufferings of the people of Kashmir for the past 74 years as he helped Hindu but secular India in the accession of Muslim Kashmir following the division of the Indian subcontinent in 1947.

Pro-independence National Liberation Front founder Muhammad Maqbool Bhat, who was hanged to death on 11 February 1984 by the Indian government for carrying out multiple militant attacks is another anti-hero.

Kashmir’s most prominent secessionist leader Syed Ali Geelani, and militant leaders Ashfaq Majeed, Syed Salahuddin, Burhan Wani, and Zakir Musa are all anti-heroes in the region struggling for peace and stability.

Prime Minister of India, Narendra Modi has taken the status of an anti-hero to a new high.

Accused of allowing the state machinery to facilitate the killings of hundreds of Muslim men and the rape of Muslim women in the Gujarat riots of 2002, Modi has surprisingly risen to a stature where millions of Indian Hindus see him as a god.

Modi’s rise may be because people who shine as morally pure and upright no longer ring true to the masses, probably because we are not used to seeing such people around us.

Pop culture too has glorified the anti-heroes and anarchists, changing our attitude towards them.

Author Melissa De La Cruz writes, “We’re the villains you root for in the story.”

From listening to the stories of classical literary anti-hero Robinhood in childhood to watching my favourite TV show Mad Men’s main character Don Draper stealing the identity of his friend who died in the war in Korea, I have always rooted for the anti-hero, caring little about the moral compass.

But don’t all of us feel like that? Don’t we all like the Hulk, the Wolverine, and the Batman? Wasn’t Adam perhaps the first anti-hero? Didn’t he disobey God and instead pay heed to Eve for having the “forbidden fruit”? Don’t we like John Milton’s ‘Paradise Lost’ for its anti-hero, who was once an angel of light? Don’t people still lay flower wreaths at the altar of Julius Caesar? We may not like George Orwell’s Big Brother but isn’t he the anti-hero for ensuring order in society?

In today’s East End, a synagogue has been converted into a mosque as the Bangladeshi population has replaced the Jews who have migrated from the area indicating how Britain welcomes the immigrants. However, the image of a Muslim post-9/11 world is perhaps the new anti-hero.

In today’s China, the Communist Party of China is the anti-hero for taking millions of impoverished people out of poverty over the past three decades. In Russia, Putin is the anti-hero for standing up against NATO’s “expansion”. The US is the anti-hero for standing up for the West while engaging in relentless wars.

Walking past ‘Jack the Chipper’, a fish and chip shop, Whitehead informed us that the shop was named after anti-hero ‘Jack the Ripper’, an unidentified serial killer active around 1888 in the city’s Whitechapel district.

The shop owner did not change its name despite public backlash and criticism. He instead offered a 50 percent discount to women as 'Jack the Ripper' had been involved in the brutal murders of many women.

We concluded our walk at the two tower blocks in Sidney Street – Peter House and Painter House. In September 2008, Tower Hamlets London Borough Council named the two tower blocks after ‘Peter the Painter’, evoking protest by a local councillor and the Metropolitan Police Federation saying that the killer should not be recognised.

‘Peter the Painter’ or ‘Peter Piaktow’, whose actual name was Janis Zhaklis, was a member of the Latvian anarchist gang in the early 20th century. He escaped to Australia after the Sidney Street Siege in 1911 in which two of his three gang members were killed.

As we headed to our hotel, I realised how East End, despite criticism, keeps its anti-heroes alive and how anarchism is a way of life in the area. Some things live on as do ideas.
