In love with the idea of captain marvel being Billy's imaginary friend. Like, it'd be so easy. Early depictions had them as almost fully separate people sometimes, like one soul with two minds, rather than just two filters like we mostly see now.
But imagine a Billy down on his luck, hurt and hiding from police and criminals alike, daydreaming the hours away as children do, taking inspiration from all the superheroes rising to fame, making little stories to play out his dreams of saving the world with a generic action doll he found while dumpster diving once. Most of the paint's rubbed off.
Red's his favourite colour, his comfiest jumper is a bright ruby even after all the grime and washes. Gold, too, it's shiny and warmer than silver! A hero cape is a must, big and eye catching! And he can fly, of course, like superman, and in his daydreams, when he's sore and frustrated after a long day's grind, his superhero is smart enough and knows all the right words to get the bullies to stop without resorting to fighting.
His superhero fantasy is one he spends a lot of time on, the first one he goes for when struggling to sleep at night, and he can picture it so clearly. Captain marvel is big and bright and kind, strong enough to lift the boxes for the old lady up the road who's moving all by himself, fast enough to catch Jamie who fell out of the tree on Saturday and broke his leg and couldn't come to class for weeks. He appears at the entrance to alleys when Billy is cornered, he steps up behind to cover for him when he gets caught shoplifting, he sits at the bus stop with him when it's pouring rain and the right bus doesn't seem to be coming.
And then the wizard comes, or rather whisks him away, and like a magician from a fairytale breathes life into his imaginary friend until Billy feels thrice his size and a million times more invincible.
From then on, captain marvel is a real hero, just like Billy is a real boy, and as one they save the whole city, and then the whole world, and get cats down from trees and help Mrs Victoria move the last of her boxes and she gives them a pinch in the cheek and cookies for the road and sometimes it hurts but it's so much better than he imagined.

HEY I WROTE THE DELKIRA POV FOR IMAGINARY FRIENDS AU SO ITS NOW PROPERLY PART OF A SERIES HERE'S THE FIC
summary:
It’s a very strange human, Delkira thinks. He knows they’re usually much more talkative. And that their speech tends towards begging and bargaining, not offers freely made with innocent intentions and odd, clipped words.
The blanky this Iruma holds up to him must be cursed in some way, otherwise, why—?

Okay two things about the new au:
1. so they thought they were each other’s imaginary friend? That’s adorable. I’m obsessed already
2. Who do I have to badger to get their respective instagram feeds?

THE NEW AU
I swear this has grown so much out of proportion. It was going to be smth SHORT, not FORTY TWO SCENES LONG!
1- They did! Kate returned to India when she was 8 along with her family and both of them kinda just assumed they had made up the other. I promise it's funny and very cute
2- That would be @harnitbee, she's the woman of the arts! I just know how to make moodboards, she's the one who's been doing gorgeous things like Wedding Monograms, Internet Articles and Magazine covers for the story. I'll show u a sneak peek of what her brilliant mind has made!
(THE TALENT I'M ALMOST CRYING I SWEAR!)

Baby Sam who freaks his teachers out by talking to himself when he thinks no one can hear him but is bright enough to catch every mistake made in math and science class. Baby Sam who’s kind of awkward and overly formal but ends up with a little band of other outcasts following him in every school. Baby Sam who ends up with an uncannily good poker face from having to pretend he can’t constantly see and hear Lucifer beside him. Baby Sam who knows things about people he has to no right to.
Baby Sam who starts making successful escape attempts long before he should even know he needs to.

Imaginary Friend Bill
He doesn't pay much attention while Ford is younger. Sure, children are malleable and creative- Ford more than most- but they also tend to be stupid- Ford less than most, but still pretty dumb. He does get a kick out of pretending to be an imaginary friend though- that's what Ford first assumed he was, and he had no reason to argue. The mindless devotion of a child was… cute. Endearing even.
It's that perpetual motion machine that really grabbed his attention, before that it was just a mild passing interest in a kid whose fingers were a multiple of three. That machine, though. That shows promise. That shows genius, especially considering where the rest of the world is in terms of technology.
He can't pull the right strings to get Ford into his college of choice. Not enough time. Backupsmore wasn't ideal, especially if he wanted Ford to go along the path he had planned out, but he managed. A few strings pulled, and Sixer was rooming with some mechanical genius of a hick. The perfect team for his purposes- one to understand, and one to build.
Slowly but surely, Stanford's "guardian demon" grows fond of him. The way he thinks is so different from everyone else, so refreshing compared to the monotony of most human minds. His hands- always a favorite point, with the multiples of three being a much more satisfying number than the multiples of five. His smile, his curiosity, his drive to know- sure, he had seen it all before, but not like this. Not in this pattern, this perfect, divine combination.
He directs Ford to Gravity Falls, a place where the fabric of reality is thin and flexible enough for a portal to work without permanently damaging the world. He's so close to his goal. So close to freedom he can taste it, feel it, smell it.
But when it's finally time, he can't do it. Twenty years of planning and manipulation, all down the drain because at some point this human had inexplicably become important to him.

Imaginary friend
Earlier today I had this random idea. Is there an AU where Stanley is actually just an imaginary friend?
You could combine it with a kid AU. It's not a rare thing for kids to make up imaginary friends when they struggle to make friends.
What if little Narrator (or Nathan how I'd call him) never had many friends and made up an imaginary friend whom he called Stanley?
Nathan would often read Stanley stories, either his favorite stories or stories he mare up himself. Stanley at some point started calling him "The Narrator" and Nathan really liked the title.
But as time went by, and Nathan became older, he'd grow out of this phase and Stanley would only become a distant memory.
As an adult he actually became an author, writing under the pseudonym "The Narrator". One of his stories is about an office worker called Stanley...
It actually mirrors the figurine ending in which the adult Narrator made up the video game character called Stanley to fight his loneliness, while in my AU kid Narrator made up Stanley as imaginary friend who kept him company during some lonely school days.
I kept all of this rather wholesome and sweet, even tho I came up with the idea while reading a rather dark thriller where the main character had an imaginary friend as a kid...and that imaginary friend was actually the most fucked up thing about the whole book tho...
But keep the idea as you like tho. Stanley as his imaginary friend could be kinda sweet and wholesome, cause he kept him company while he was just a lonely kid...or he could be one of those creepy imaginary friends that made kids do crazy and fucked up shit...and who were probably the reason the kida had no real friends in the first place :)

summary:
if, when he was small, one iruma suzuki had an imaginary friend, and if, say, that friend happened to be the missing demon king, though nobody can really tell if he’s a ghost or not — would it change much?
