I love Steph's origin as told in the Secret Origins 80 page giant- I just overall think it strengthens her character by giving her a lot of pathos and adding to her heroism (which isn't something writers were focused on in her actual intro in detective comics #647 since she was just meant to act as a plot device back then) BUT there is one tiny detail in it i will begrudge, and that is the portrayal of her having a minor love at first sight moment for tim

Mostly because Stephanie showed no interest in her introduction and only showed romantic feelings towards Tim AFTER this moment here:

Straight up the progression here goes:

The adventure in 'tec where they first meet -> Tim investigating the same crime scene as Steph -> she beats him up not knowing it's him at first, apologizes but says he shouldn't have scared her -> he remembers her/the moniker she goes by -> they talk about plot for a few pages -> Stephanie starts flirting

Which...is so fascinating to me and says so much about Stephanie. She highlights the fact that Tim "remembered" her. Like. Steph. Girl. This is our bar? It's sweet but kind of speaks to how much Stephanie is ignored at home/how little and sporadically she's shown interacting with her peers (and rarely ever the same kids twice). Her idea of peak romance is just...being on someone's mind even when you're not there.

Kind of also adds layers to Steph's proclivity towards jealousy later on, a manifestation of her insecurity and loneliness (though don't get it twisted, she's not written this way bc Dixon and co think it's an interesting character flaw, they wrote it bc they think it's an inherent character flaw of (particularly young) women/girls, which is very apparent in how he approaches Ariana's character as well from what I've read)

Also the fact that Steph becomes so smitten for Tim almost immediately after this is (a few issues later she aggressively flirts with him during AN ACTIVE HOSTAGE SITUATION. WHERE SHE'S THE HOSTAGE) again is kind of a mixture of kind of funny and sad. One boy is nice to her once and she's fully ready to wife him. Girl you are deranged (affectionate) (concerned)

#ramblings of a lunatic #dc comics #stephanie brown #tim drake #timsteph #meta #< ??? ig #robin 1993 #made this post and forgot to finish. saved it in drafts. saw posts that annoyed me. proceeded to finish it #the subset of fans who think they're doing a righteous feminism by giving steph more flaws than she has in canon...headaches #yes flawed female characters are important representation no i dont think you projecting chuck dixons conservative values onto her-#-is doing her character a great favour. if so you need to commit to the bit and make tim a stone cold nark /j #sorry okay im done vaguing. there's real things going on in the world that matter. the bad take is the mind killer etc etc #anyway the zero to 100 progression of early timsteph is fascinating. on the one hand i know it's mostly a product of its time #both in terms of portrayals of romance (esp teen romance) and partially of women and girls by dixon (not extremely boy obsessed-#-but there's a. dark shadow of the boy crazy trope. a gentle whiff of it in the air. just a little)#but bc this aspect isn't blatantly/egregiously author bias i choose to analyse it #i could also analyse how steph in general is portrayed as liking guys she can't/shouldn't have a little #(her crush on the much older detective in bg2009 and also tim a little bit w/ the secret identity thing)#(but that's a whole other discussion. also that aspect of the romance in bg2009 is. also a little sexistly motivated-#-and also dropped part way through to an extent so like..not exactly ripe for analysis)#ANYWHO i love you Steph <3 you're unwell and yet so adorable and compelling Steph <3

my therapist really saved me….

#tw abuse // tw sa #i can’t sleep bc i keep thinking about this.#like i probably would’ve not been here if it weren’t for her #i started seeing her january of 2023… my life has changed entirely since then and she was definitely the one who got the ball rolling #literally so much has changed since then and it’s all because of her #i was so dissociated during our first few sessions #thanks to her i was able to get diagnosed and medicated for adhd. i was able to realize i was in an abusive situation and plan a way out #i was able to focus on myself and my healing and she’s helped me reframe so much of my negative thinking #i was able to process a lot of emotions and become a better version of myself with each session #she’s truly incredible.#i remember the first comment she made about the relationship had been ‘’so it’s like there’s an imbalance of control in the relationship’’#i had put my partners on such a high pedestal that i had no idea they could be doing anything wrong #and i asked her what she meant and she said ‘from what you’ve been describing it’s sounds like a strict parents and child type of dynamic’#she told me they didn’t need to understand why i wanted to leave and they didn’t need to make that decision. if that’s what was going to be #best for me the only thing i could do is let them know my reasoning and simply leave. i didn’t need their permission.’’#i remember being so confused at that realization bc like… i had been putting their emotions over mine the whole time i had forgotten simply #doing what’s best for me was an option… l #ever since then i’ve been putting myself first and it’s been a steady uphill from rock bottom… i’ve made an incredible amount of progress #when i first started with her getting out of bed and walking to the kitchen was incredibly difficult and took all my strength.#yesterday i conquered a mountain!!!!!!! i hiked all the way to the top!!!!! :D #me a year ago thought it was going to take me years and years to recover. as soon as i left i made leaps of progress #im incredibly proud of myself and grateful for her. and my reiki lady she’s also been a great great help.#the silver lining is i realized who really matters. and the relationships i cared about deepened.#my sweet virgo friend was the one who was always like ‘THATS A GROWN ASS MAN WHO CANT UNDERSTAND BASIC CONSENT???’#LMFAO i would be like ‘but he has trauma and bla bla bla’ she looked me dead in the eyes and said #’jess you said with your last boyfriend that you would never make excuses for a man who was hurting you again. stop defending him.’#she’s really a gem and i treasure her with my life. i hope she knows i love her. she’s family at this point #she’s also literally saved my life before (like deadass called 911 for help)#im glad i had the support system i had. that was a rough situation with so many layers and im glad i got through it #my 22nd year of life was by far the worst of my life and i don’t ever want to put myself in that situation again. im glad i learned.

#announcement #i guess #snowbird #snowbird chapter 2 is im uhhere i er well #im like. 49% done #i hope people read it i really do #i establish the protags relationship with her older sister in chapter 2 itll be great #therell be guilt the protags bestie has a fraternal relationship with the protags older sister would you read that please read that im beggi #also just read part of mockingjay that derails my whole plot BUT ITS OKAY the plot holes have saved me #it says that finnick odair was a mentor during the 74th games but that doesnt check out because he won during 65 but annie casta won in 70 #meaning annie casta won the most recently but wasnt a mentor??? but annie is known for not being stable SO #that means that if a mentor is unfit to train new tributes they can be replaced by a more capable one WHICH MEANS #despite the timelines making one of my characters the most recent district 4 victor if she has a psychotic breakdown she wont mentor #so now i have to find a way to traumatise her enough that her progress going back to normal just flies out the window #fortunately the reaping happens in winter the arena was full of snow theres a point where she falls in a frozen lake she lives in district 4 #hmmmmmm and maybe she gets cut. maybe blood on snow reminds her of things that she doesnt want to be reminded of. hmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmnmnnnm #it happens in winter cause its in the middle of the year. winter is in the middle of the year. catching fire has the reaping midyear (?)#look dont ask me about my timelines just enjoy it okay

I have a lot of religious guilt around being angry, especially being angry at someone, and it's so funny talking about it with my therapist because I'll admit something like "I feel like Im in a constant low level state of resentment" or that Im thinking something slightly harsh about a person and my therapist will be sitting in his seat like

#I had a therapy rupture with him a few months ago and apparently Im not all that great at hiding extreme anger he just didn't say anything #cause we were working thru it #and now Im like 'well shit Im like sitting over here telepathically blowing u up with my mind so I guess that makes sense'#Cause Im still stuck in the 'thought life' mindset of my thoughts affecting other people besides me #and I'll get self destructive in a 'well if I self destruct you HAVE to help me then'#type of way that I know is unhealthy but I don't usually act on it. it's more just the impulse/urge #but it all stems from the idea that suffering is holy somehow #and if I suffer enough then I'll get somewhere #basically a speed run to empathy cause I didn't get care otherwise because I just needed to pray more or whatever #and now I'm learning to just let my emotions pass thru #hopefully not like diarrhea but unfortunately constipation can cause diarrhea #so ig I'll figure out my anger soon and how to let it just pass thru #its just so funny watching him get excited about me being openly angry cause that's progress #me: 'biting and biting and biting and biting and biting'#therapist: 'this is good. this is progress great job <3'#ex christian #religious trauma

(refuses to believe my own senses on account of being 'me')#its just a rly big tangle of mess that keeps me from doing much of anything and it Sucks. i just need t wait for th lines t cross or whatev #but also ive been switching genres (for lack of a better term) multiple times daily and a lil intensely #so i am Highly Discombobulated at all times.#im keeping a brave enough face about it; which is a good and bad thing; but its about all i can do to weather it let alone Make Progress.#which is not great; considering the whole 'expected to be a person' and 'unemployed' thing. not a great development.#umm. anyway. hanging in there; or whatever. sure dont know what to do abt this though.#god forbid i tell either the two (2) 'trusted people' i know irl they could barely handle the executive dysfunction talk.
