ur logically get so fucking scared sm shits abt to go down, u just start running
it isnt until ur reaching for a ledge and some webbing shoots out of ur arm (from a glitchy little spot on ur arm, where it could be coming out of ur skin, but sometimes its a blue and red bracelet)
it latched onto the nearest building, and thats how u find out u can grapple ur way, literally Spiderman style, out of the harbor
and bro, idk if it would be fun, or confusing and stressful, or maybe both?? to just find out u can use any video game power from any game youve played before as you go running from countries bc for some freaky reason they know too much abt you/are pursuing you-
dUDE- they had small statues of you in like every little section of their cities
u head to Mondstadt and as Venti comes screaming and flying at you (in excitement, but ur freaked), u go to hold a hand up and suddenly ur holding a heavy stone tablet that unleashes some holographic yellow chains that freeze him in place-?? why is this familiar-

and as ur booking it out of there, u manage to get ahold of a sword, and u know exactly how to use it to knock back favonius knights trying to stop you (they are concerned for their god who is just unleashing random powers on ppl, pls let Grandmaster Jean just talk to you Your Majesty-!!)
by the time you teleport ur way to Inazuma, (bc u still have this worlds access to ur player/traveler’s powers), ur trying to find a nice place to stay for a little bit
at least in that sweet spot of the Raiden not noticing/finding you, while things cool down on the main continent, before moving on,
and u get some tools to help fashion just a little shelter, bc u dont have any money/mora rn, and ur able to literally build a house???
a mailbox pops up and thanks you for renting with Tom Nook???? As in Animal Crossing-

(meanwhile, theyre thinking, yknow. high profile guest/our god of gods. ofc we need state of the art mekas to escort them, its only polite-)
meanwhile ur cape has now become wings, and a mask covers ur face as you glide and fly ur way over the city in an attempt to get to where u assume Snezhnaya is
it doesnt occur to you the game until ur running out of stamnia and catch ur reflection in the waters of fontaine, Sky: Children of the Light
u hope the Tsaritsa’s dislike for other gods/Celestia doesnt extend to ur otherworldly presence so ur just hoping for the best atp tbh
tbh youd forget what all powers you have, and the absolute chaos ur causing urself as u try to desperately rememeber what games youve played thru ur entire life is NOT helping to reduce confusion when u randomly wake up with elf ears (legend of zelda/botw) or get dragged into another ruin machine when u fall asleep/faint/do smth u guess mimics death lmao- (fnaf) 💀

i really dont know what to do. i was in a really good place - w college stuff. good grades, not too much procrastinating. but w henrys repeated s*icide attempts threats meltdowns whatever. the courtcases, the unemployment, the teen fucking pregnancy. im just. im losing everything. i cant sleep for longer than 3 hours if i'm lucky, & when i do - i have nightmares abt him dead, my ex dead, my significant other - dead (bc i cant date anyone who hasnt tried to off themselves ig!) feel so silly in class, so stupid & unstable & weak for not being able to keep my shit together alongside everything, but i dont have enough life to go back to when things go wrong. ive tried really hard to build it & it's not nothing but it's not enough. im so scared. i dont want to have to drop out of college a second time, i dont WANT to be the one who cant do this, out of myself & nate. im so angry & sad that i cant protect myself & im so sick of everyone trying to kill themselves & me - literally - having to be the one who calls someone to get them off the ledge. waiting & hoping & begging that the people i love dont make ignorant, cruel decisions that destroy me as an afterthought recipient. they can lie back & think of suicide whenever things go phenominally wrong, but i cant - so! i just have to live no matter how hard it is even when i have no stomach for it! what am i supposed to do? if nate shows up in december for that stupid mountain goats show it will break my heart again. i thought it would be different this time. i made it so that it would be different this time.

nobody asked but im typing out all the gripes i have w totk . they're mostly nick-picky tho i loved this game. complaints first, praises after
single biggest gripe i have with totk is that the main selling point of the game, the sky, does not feel nearly as expansive as it should. i feel like there coulda been waayyy more islands up there, and Bigger ones, like the one u start out on. i want bigger pieces of land to explore, not these tiny little rocks. it feels i've seen everything there is to see the moment i land. as far as i remember, there's no biomes in the sky islands either, except for the great sky one. there's no differences, and many of the islands are copy-pasted. still fun to explore and still beautiful, but i was expecting... more
while i love the depths with all my heart and being down there is an Experience, i do think it could've been improved with a little bit of variety. it looks the same wherever u go, with the exception of the eldin region and a few other lavafalls sprinkled about. i think some different biomes woulda been so cool
no post-game. i don't even necessarily want a fully fleshed out post-game, i literally just want the game and the world to acknowledge i beat ganon instead of dumping me back in time moments before the fight i just started. this is a common thing, i know, but i Hate the practice

why did ganon's intro scene before the final fight pan to his feet so much
kinda predictable story, in the sense that zelda turned into the light dragon. saw it comin a mile away, but this is just me being bitchy the story itself is still very fulfilling and good. just predictable, which isn't necessarily a bad thing
okay that was 7 complaints 2 of which were memes now sit back as i ramble abt the good stuff. already made a thread abt the little stuff i liked now it's the bigish stuff
the music in some of the areas is genuine fucking art. some of my favorites are the wind temple theme and it's approach track, the construct factory theme, dragonhead island, the bits of the calamity ganon theme in this game's final boss track, frozen rito village,,, so many pieces of genuine skill and talent
the wind temple is absolutely one of the best experiences i've had in a video game, not because of the puzzle design, but the temple design. the moment where you look up into the clouds with tulin and you see a giant airship silhouette highlighted by lightning,, the approach track that plays when ur getting higher into the air had chills running down my spine. what a cool fucking concept for a temple
there's already a post somewhere on tumblr abt this, but i love that the citizens of hyrule don't follow the typical "every man for himself" apocalyptic mindset. they help each other, constantly. they seek out people to help in their spare time. they shelter each other and volunteer to do hard work for the sake of everybody else. i just think that's rly endearing n nice. a good message
the entire fuse and ultrahand mechanics are SUPER fun. so endlessly creative. and i love that a lot of the time, the game doesn't hold ur hand. it doesn't even Grab ur hand, it pushes u off the ledge to teach you how to fly. it Makes u get creative with ur solutions. it makes u feel stupid a Lot, but sometimes it makes u feel like an absolute genius (anybody else have trouble with that one rail shrine? anybody else just launch themselves across the pit and rail grind to skip the thing entirely?)

the vibes of the thunderhead isles were Incredible. i went up there before the clouds cleared, and i gotta say, even if the game Wants u to go up there later in the story, exploring those islands while the storm is still active is an entirely different experience, and i recommend it. if ur reading this before you've finished this part, just don't go to the actual dragonhead island . leave that for when it prompts u, trust me.
ganon's dragon design ? fucking killer
a lot of the new armor pieces are really beautiful. the miner's set looks so fuckin stupid but the headpiece is cool. all the torso pieces for the elemental dragon sets r Gorgeous
loved that the first half of the final boss took place in the depths, and the second half took place in the sky. nintendo has always been good at linking game elements with stories and this is no exception imo
LOVED when ganon's health bar stretched super far to the right. that was so silly and intimidating
in the final fight, the way ganon would only be affected by flurry rushes at first and not any random attacks, but then random attacks were the only way to hit him later. i know it was scripted, but it genuinely made it feel like he was learning to fight link better
the theme of cycles and the circular nature of time throughout this game is wonderful, and how it's mirrored in the first/last settings of the game is genius. how the game starts in a cave, and then part of the ending is in that same cave. how link dived alone into that pond below the great sky island at the start, and then at the very end he dived For Zelda in that very same pond

Daily Hobie HC!
Imagine having like- those first few dates with him.
He won't settle for something basic such as dinners or picnics, unless you ask. Instead, Hobie will bring you out to abandoned buildings, an animal shelter or even his own boathouse if you guys just felt like having a more relaxed date.
Whenever he brings you to these abandoned sights, he always makes sure that it's safe for both of you. His main goal is to get to the top of the place, and so obviously you two try your best to race up there.
Screw him and his spider-abilities though, he looks like he teleported there with a smug smirk on his face while you're panting like you've run a marathon; which you probably did.
Once the casual affectionate exchange of insults between you two is over, he sits on the ledge and beckons you over.
As soon as you sit down next to him, he snakes his arm around your waist, complaining that you aren't close enough, while making sure you don't fall.
If you get cold, he'll offer you his jacket. While it may not look much, considering it's sleeveless, it still does provide quite a bit of warmth.
If you guys were to just be hanging out for a date in his boathouse, he'll play some of his music for you or even just settle on having a movie night.
(He'll make sure it's horror so he can scare you >:) )
Even if you end up falling asleep at his place, depending on whether you feel comfortable enough around him, he'll willingly carry (aka swing) you back to your place, making sure you're all comfortable and safe before he goes.
And hey, who knows. When you wake up, you might find that you've got a little trinket beside your pillow with a note on it, reading
'Hobie Brown was here'.
Off topic I got my hair cut and styled into a messy wolfcut and I love it sm! I look androgynous now so people have to guess and hope for the best muahah

hello matthew!! :D this ask isnt related to the little game u made unfortunately but id like to ask for some advice from someone who probably has to read a lot for school!!
i finished reading a classic of literature recently, jane austens persuasion. having repeated myself many times today, it was a very good thought provoking book. except that i didnt really realise that until i read the introduction of the book where they discuss her techniques and how she handles the themes!! argh.. in fact while i was readin the whole thing i didnt even really know what to feel! i knew about the instances of titular persuasion but i wasnt even really sure what they were saying with nuance...
since im so troubled by my lack of sensitivity and find no help elsewhere on the interwebs, as someone who i find can parse the complex muddled text of enstars with clarity, what should i do to become a more sensitive reader! or rather how do u read matthew?
hi lab! im a lil honored that u hold me in such high regard bc honestly, i dont always feel that my literary analysis skills are up to par! though i think thats an opinion shared by many but i often end up in the same position as you and even my professors say the same thing where they have to reread books before they start to really delve into analysis. its p normal, honestly. a lot of themes in literature are largely opinionated so some people pick up patterns faster than others and sometimes two readings can conflict with one another. it happens! one reading may be more clearly supported by evidence within the text but analyzing literature usually takes a lot of practice more than anything, but sometimes going back to the basics rlly helps and focusing on which critical theory may be applicable. could you maybe analyze the text through a character? perhaps the psychoanalytic theory may help! are gender roles present within the text? maybe looking at it through a feminist critical lens may give you a good ledge to start off. theres also formalism, post-colonialist, Marxist theory, eco-criticism, etc... the world is your oyster and having trouble with analyzing a text is normal! we're not all-knowing and sometimes it helps to look at what other people have to say will help you most of all.
also i asked my friend @cupidneos who is insanely smart for her advice since i bet that she would have something to say (also shes also a jane austen fan) and this is what she said:
i do wanna say that you shouldn’t be too hard on yourself since Persuasion is easily one of her hardest texts to really extend and make sense of so it’s no fault of your own … literature that uses free indirect discourse to hint towards our knowledge of character tends to be harder to understand bc of how limited that info can be! that being said, not being able to place our finger on something until it’s highlighted is completely okay! that’s what the introduction is there for; to help you out. there’s no set list of criteria to being a “more sensitive reader” since the phenomenon of reading itself is so mercurial. with practice i’m so certain that u will get a better sense of where to look for those literary themes. and don’t sell urself short in doing so either! if u find a passage important, pursue it!!! doesn’t matter what everyone else says abt it hehe

finally beat pikmin 4 :}
spoilers under the cut as i ramble.
first off: my complaints.
biggest issue thats on my mind rn since it was effecting me just now in the final fight: if i throw my pikmin but they arent too far from me, they just come back to me??? i was trying to put them on a ledge so the final boss' heat wave wouldnt kill them. bc some of them like the purples werent thrown far, they kept coming back. that feature kind of sucks!
second: not sure why they made bootleg versions of pikmin 3 captains. i get why they werent in the game (though, they couldve been castaways with a side quest of gathering all the fruit treasures but, whatever) but i dont get why they needed bootleg versions. nelle couldve been an entirely different looking npc, yknow? one of them was even alph's brother...
third: caves werent nearly as long. aside from the final cave being 20 floors (and just like a boss rush for the most part, but also there were some like that in 2 so its fine) every cave was like 1-5 floors. i wouldve appreciated longer caves.. its definitely a possibility since you can choose which sublevel to go to after leaving a cave, so u dont have to do a long one entirely over.
also, the "only 3 pikmin at a time" was a little annoying. im glad you can have more than 3 types in a cave, at least, but you cant bring more than 3 with you which sucks. i get putting a limit, but i think a good limit wouldve been 5. 20 of each to have 100, like pikmin 2 and 3! also probably wouldve let caves be more interesting with more varieties to bring.
just a nitpick at this point but i don't quite understand the "existing enemy but just larger with no visual difference aside from size" trend. sovereign bulblax is slightly visually different, so i can accept that. but the jumbo bulborb and blowhogs, aside from different movesets, were just scaled up models. i think doing something to make them look a little different wouldve been nice, even if it was just a color difference or smth.
final complaint: i love glow pikmin but why must they replace bulbmin :{
the glow seeds are nice... but bulbmin are so everything to me. reserving glowmin 2 night time only and bulbmin in select caves wouldve been nice. i get it but also. i miss them....

ANYWAYS. complaints out of the way.
i thought i wouldnt like the "basically back to 1 captain" thing, but it was actually pretty good! oatchi is basically like a captain as well but with more capabilities, so i think it was pretty good. the upgrade system was also real nice imo!! with your character, oatchi and the onions, it was neat. it gives a better feeling of progression, and doesnt make things TOO easy from the beginning, getting as many red pikmin as possible to kill everything.
also i wasnt sold on the series reboot thing, but i think it works fine. i get having to reboot it to integrate the dogs into the story! (i still want to believe pikmin 3 will happen in this timeline sort of. i doubt olimar and louie would be present, but yknow.)
im also happy there were so many areas, and even with ~230 (239?) treasure types, i liked that there were a lot of repeats. without having to make so many different models, we got a ton of treasure to pick up.
the old bosses brought back were fun, too!! submerged castle 2 was really intense and fun. a little unsure why baldy long legs was back, but not shaggy... are they all permanently hairless now?
overall very good game. im not sure if its going to dethrone 2 as my favorite, but its certainly my 2nd fav! (3 being 3rd, 1 being 4th. 1 is very janky and unforgiving, so its just not as fun.)
the platforming elements brought in with the introduction of oatchi were really good. pikmin platforming.. its very cool and works really well! i was worried abt it, but honestly it wasnt too overdone, but not neglected at all. and better than pikmin sidescroller.
at this point, all i can hope for is maybe some free updates for the future... if not, hopefully a substantial dlc that would feel worth paying for. (the dlc for pikmin 3 was kind of a joke.)
dandori stages and battles, as well as night mode were kind of hard for me to adjust to, but once i got it figured out it was really satisfying. still not a big fan of vs dandori, but somehow i managed to at least get bronze and silver on the last 2 on my first try. night mode... that final stage was. a bit much. 2 proggs, 3 emperors i think it was? and a long legs??? it felt a little ridiculous, and i DID have to look up a guide, but i got it.
overall probably a 9/10 for me (even pikmin 2 isnt a 10/10, dont worry). its definitely the longest of pikmin games which i love, i was hoping for a super long game and it delivered pretty well! i think i spent close to 50 hours playing just one file to 100% completion. much better than the few hours you can spend playing pikmin 3.
now im going to start a new file, this time doing a no death run. i only lost 14 pikmin total, so i absolutely can do it!!

ok fiiiinally able to talk abt how good rapture is as a story device :)
so like. both literally and metaphorically, it puts immense pressure on you. literally because you are under the ocean and theres lots of pressure, and metaphocially because it is breaking. tunnels collapse and cave in and pipes explode and it puts pressure on you to get out as soon as possible, which is hopefully very soon. although it may not be a sentient being with thought ane want, it certainly is working against you, blocking your path and constantly putting you in mortal danger.
in doing this, it takes power out of your hands, makes you subject to its whims, whatever they may be at any time. which is what is happening to jack with atlas. jack has no choices in his journey, other than to save or harvest the sisters, and even then it is by the grace of tenenbaum having been in the room with the first. if not for her, you never would have had a choice. jack is subjected to whatever atlas wants him to do and has no choice in wether or not he does it.
meanwhile columbia..... its there. its in the sky and of course it can be dangerous, people could fall off the ledge or take too long to step on a moving platform but for the most part in what i remember it generally works to your advantage. but its not as alive as rapture is

rapture is a city that wants to both keep you out and crush you under its own enormity. jack was always supposed to go to rapture—he was literally made for the part—like booker is always supposed to go to columbia.
but the difference between their companions—tenenbaum and the luteuces—is that tenenbaum wants to show jack he can be something else, that he can choose to be something else. while the luteuces only aim to show booker what he is, was, and will be. will be—there's no could be about it.
and while columbia is as alive and rich as a bent nail, i think the fact that it works to booker's advantage most of the time is part of that theme. like it's always going to be leading him to a preordained situation, because it's happened before (and is happening and will be happening, etc).
columbia had the potential to be reflective of booker's internal problems (the fact that vigors are something you can drink, the racism, etc) but it kind of just feels like a halfway point.
like you said, rapture is very heavy literally and metaphorically. you/jack can feel the weight of what had happened to its people. columbia is flimsy in comparison; you're free to go wherever you like and to do whatever you want, and the people around you won't care. the game says not every encounter has to be a fight, but that doesn't really matter in the long run, does it? there's only ever two or three moments where you have the choice not to fight. every other time you must
we barely get any hints as to how columbians feel about their own city! we don't know if they're happy with where they are, if they have grievances, if they even complain.
you could chalk it up to them all being completely brainwashed by comstock, but ryan literally did the same?? and rapture fell out from under him?? but even as columbia falls, not a single person who isn't a main character has anything to say about it. the most we ever get are things happening in the background, things you could easily skip over.

I remember literally sighing when they announced Marooner's being added. Most boring map or rip out your tentacles annoying and it depends solely on whether or not the rotation is good because you can have the best squad and still struggle to get to wave 3, just to wipe out. If any map needed a rework from the series it's dumpster Bay.
Please dump more of your thoughts on Marooner's, it's so bad.

GRAHHHHH I HAVE . so many thoughts on so many of the maps in splatoon 3 i really really do but marooners is like my nemesis im like sat in my big fluffy flowy night robe with a cigarette holder and staring off into the dark menacingly thinking about it you don't understand just how deep my feelings about this map go .
marooners bay is IRRITATINGLY big and has so many unclimable walls. oh?? you wanna get to the basket in tornado?? well you better hope that your teammates are all on the exact same page and are the wellest of well oiled machines because if someone isn't A) getting eggs to the propeller B) splatting snatchers C) defending themselves / not getting fucking flattened by cohocks falling from the sky AND D) putting eggs into the basket efficiently then uhh woops !!! THAT'S A WRAP BAYBEE!!!!!!!!!!! WAHOO!!! GO TO PART TIMER.
you have to hope and pray that nobody cuts you off from the propeller because you probably (if we're talking higher rank playing here) won't have the time to aim and throw a golden egg up near the basket because some lesser salmonids are breathing down your neck. ORRRR you can go to the like ramp area near the back of the map and get flattened by a scrapper because everyone else is getting swarmed / far away. like i know this is an issue with just teammates but. this map is absolutely unplayable if you're doing freelance. if your teammates aren't aware of what bosses they can lure you're going to be stuck dying, being revived for 3 seconds and then dying again.
also the grates are bullshit like. oh my god they're so fucking STUPIDDDDDD . like that whole gap there between the rest of the upper area and the basket is soooo dumb. the only purpose it has is allowing people to move from one side of the map to the other quickly on mid/low tide i guess but. why even have it be like that. why should i have to use this little alleyway to get to the other side of the map when this just . isn't really a thing on other maps (ex. sockeye station) . the only other example of this i can think of is like. gone fission but that map is small and open enough that that isn't a huge issue?? at least in gone fission i can swim up a wall but nooo i have to walk the borders of texas just to get to the basket . anway back to the gap itself. its dumb as fuck. YES maps tend to have some kind of obstacle / thing going on around the basket!! (ex. sockeye stations basket is on a slightly raised platform, spawning grounds has a sort of wall by it) BUT THOSE ARE HELPFUL AND SURVIVABLE!!! AT LEAST IF I FUCK UP ON GETTING ONTO SOCKETES LEDGE ON HGIH TIDE I DONT IMMEDIATELY DIE!!! DO YOU KNOW HOW HUMILIATING IT IS TO KEEP TRYING TO SWIM TO THE BASKET BECAUSE I CANT OUTWALK A BOSS AND THEN FALLING INTO THE SEAS BECAUSE I THOUGHT MAP DESIGN WAS KIND AND LOVING!!! BUT NO!!!!

i have kind of lost my mind abt this so my points are a little scrambled up here but UGHHHH i hate this map. i desperately want it to be reworked so its smaller and less discombobulated because right now it feels like a frankenstein of a map that's not fun to play

So, the slingshot idea didn't work out. Instead of shooting me up into the sky, it launched me from my little ledge directly into the ground. Talk about a killer nosebleed.
