mhm man do I have conflicting feelings about Vol 2 (this is prob gonna be kinda rambly and all over the place but I have Thoughts™ and I need to put them down)

okay first of all I gotta commend Sadie, like she absolutely killed it this season. Definitely one of the highlights. Caleb too. That attic scene- oof. I was just straight up bawling. Max and Lucas were never my favorites (didn’t dislike them either, they were just sorta in the middle for me), but they really felt like the heart of the show more than anything or anyone this season. Which is ironic given Will’s whole speech about Mike being the heart like-the fuck where?

I just- do not like Mike. At all. idk what it is, if it’s the acting, writing, or both, but he feels so incredibly unsympathetic as a character. He was also one of those middle characters for me at first, but unlike Max and Lucas he’s just been dropping down season by season and I literally can’t stand him now. Slow clap for that A+ character assassination. He only exists as Eleven’s bf now, and doesn’t seem to care about any of his friends, or anyone, really. And don’t even get me started on how they used Will’s feelings and sexuality “storyline” to further Mileven. there’s already a hundred posts about that, so I’m just not gonna even go there.

Another slow clap for the incredible Queerbaiting (listen idec that much if Byler becomes canon or not, but they 100% used Will’s sexuality and the potential of Byler to hype up the show and string queer audiences along(during Pride month, no less), it is textbook queerbaiting)

Mileven is also one of those ships that I don’t care about. Might have to do with my dislike for Mike, but something about it just doesn’t click for me. And boy did I feel that lack of investment during Mike’s monologue. Made the entire scene just completely fall flat for me. But where I was mostly ambivalent about them in S3, I’m actively rooting for them to break up now lol. Eleven, girl, get out of there.

Like, genuinely, her character feels like it’s stuck. Or like going in circles. I think she’d have more room to grow without Mike. idk I’m too tired to be big brain about this rn

Anyways, moving on. Dustin felt a little sidelined this season. Like what even was his arc? Being Eddie’s friend (just for Eddie to die)? Wow, great. Amazing. But y’know, same thing with Jonathan and Will. Maybe they just have too many characters at this point.

Couldn’t care less about Jonathan and Nancy as a couple. I’m not a big shipper (regardless of canon status), so if a relationship isn’t actually interesting...I just won’t care. They’re boring to me, that’s all I really have to say. I’m not fully on board the potential Steve/Nancy train, if they’re even going there in S5. Def felt like that’s what they were setting up. I’ve seen some people say that them getting back together would undo their character growth and I don’t know if I agree with that either, like... if they got back together, it would literally be because they spent time apart, growing as individuals. What they had before wasn’t working, but they’re not those people anymore, that’s the whole point. It would only be regression if they got back together and went back to being exactly like they were in S1/2.

I mean, in an ideal world I would hope for Ronance, and Steve ending up either with someone else or single, but...I’m not gonna hold my breath for that, lol. After all, they gave us copy-paste lesbians. Great representation, pack it up everybody. You know what, I’ll give that one another slow clap. I’m always down for more wlw rep, but that was half-assed at best. More like quarter-assed.

Steve also felt, idk, sidelined in the sense that he just went back to pining about Nancy and that was really all there is. Idk honestly it felt like a lot of characters were just kind of there, this season. Like, they participated in the plot....and that was it. And some barely even did that. Again, might be an overcrowding issue.

I’m sorta meh about the Russia plot. Murray is ok, I guess, but the over the top kind of comedy they use him for isn’t my cup of tea, so he’ll never be my favorite. I’m pretty ambivalent about Jopper as well. It’s one of those ships where I’m like I’m fine if it happens, and I’m fine if it doesn’t. I will say that my perception of Hopper still hasn’t fully recovered from whatever the fuck they did with his character in S3, but it’s getting there, I guess?

Joyce...went to get her man. Good for her, I guess. idk, don’t really have much to say.

Eddie though- man. Boy. He’s like the definition of deserved better. My man thought 86 was going to be his year and then it all went to complete and utter shit. I can’t say I’m surprised they killed him. He’s the Barb/Bob/Alexei of this season, with the exception that he was probably more of a fan favorite than any of the other 3. The thing about his death is just... it seems so pointless. I know they painted it as this whole Hero moment, he decided to fight instead of run, yadda yadda. But really he died in a “sacrificial” act that was ultimately meaningless and didn’t accomplish anything, he died being hated by an entire town, and I assume they left his body in the Upside Down bc he was officially “missing” still, so...he didn’t even get a burial. He’s like one of the very few characters that went through actual character growth this season , and he died for it. Good one. (here, I’ll toss in another slow clap) I did feel the lack of reactions was odd at first, but then I thought about it a bit and remembered that the timeframe of this season is pretty short. Idk how long exactly, but I’m pretty sure it’s a week or less, and he spent a decent amount of that time in hiding. So most of the others spent like a couple hours total with him, maybe. I’d have expected something from Lucas, though. Mike apparently doesn’t care about anyone other than El, so that tracks lol. But the only one we’ve seen affected at all was Dustin (and Eddie’s uncle). So, it was still a little lackluster.

Anyways, yeah idk. Visually, the show is still stunning (even if the CGI was actually not that great in a lot of shots, imho), and there were some standout moments. I loved the one-take shootout (I’m a sucker for long one-takes, DD hallway fights my beloveds), and of course the entire Running Up That Hill Sequence, which might be my favorite scene in the entire show. But some of these writing choices really soured it for me.

This very much feels like a case of It could have been great, the potential was there, but they didn’t stick the landing.

Loving relaxed mother to the mother goddess whose daughter may be in danger. There is a buzzing in the air as a form takes shape before them. She reaches behind her to rest a protective hand on Livvy’s shoulder. “I don’t know, baby,” she replies, as the buzzing grows louder and something with claws materialises before them. Her eyes glow faintly in warning. If it comes any closer, it will die in an instant and she’ll make sure of it. “But I won’t let anything happen to you. I promise.”

Lord am I curious on how you'll handle the L*ah situation in "the beginning" 👀👀👀💦(my family and I finally got to s10 ep18)

Dude I am too because I am still trying to figure out what exactly I'm going to do with her lmao

I can (loosely) confirm some things about my incorporation of Leah into the series:

1. Daryl will absolutely NOT have anything romantic with Leah. That would require him to either a) cheat on Reader, or b) separate from Reader, and my heart simply can't take writing that, at least not for this series. Besides, Daryl really does love her, and he'd never do anything to hurt her (not like that rat man Jerome). Rest assured, Leah will not be getting that Daryl dick, because I said so.

2. Leah is still going to be in the series. I am hoping that I can still include her as a character since she is somewhat important to the Reaper stuff in season 11. I'm not comfortable enough with completely getting rid of her. I have broken canon before, but it's only to include Reader in the action of the show. If I can keep most of the show's plot in there, I will. I want it to feel like the Reader is actually there, involved with the story.

3. Daryl doesn't get Dog from Leah. This is purely because I don't like this plot point lol. Leah's connection to Dog ever so slightly taints my perception of Dog since I watched s10e18, so I'm changing it. Canon? We don't know her (at least in regards to Leah lol).

4. She's going to D I E. Idec if she dies in the show or not, we're killing her off for my own catharsis. We're going balls to the wall for season 11.

5. In general, Daryl doesn't give a shit about Leah, at least certainly not as much of a shit as he gives about her in the show. He has no romantic feelings towards her (he's a married man, and she's a very unlikable character let's be real), and when she messes with his family (and maybe even Reader directly?), there will be hell to pay. He does NOT care about her, but he might pretend he does... We'll see.

Keep in mind, I haven't watched season 11 yet, so these points are all due to slight change and alteration as I encounter the plot of season 11 and see what I can get away with changing, but points number 1 and 2 are for sure going to be in my adaptation of Leah as a character for seasons 10/11.

Sorry this is such a long answer that you didn't really ask for but I wanted to talk about this!

friendship i like: as i said yoozen but i think jumin and zen could be such a great duo if they both could see how much they truly share with each other ideology wise. like i think i talked about this in my review of the jumin dlc from fucking december but to reiterate i feel like both of them strive for success based on merit rather than success based on predisposition, and i think zen is stuck at the fact that jumin was born rich that he's not looking into it and seeing all of what jumin had to go through or what jumin really thinks, and on the flip side i think jumin has an individuality complex and thinks his ideas on meritocracy are borne entirely from his own experiences and that no one else could really understand. oh and zen and jaehee here as well

pairing i fucking despise: jumizen i’m sorry this one's just the yaoi enemies to lovers bait ship imo... they would kill each other in the first couple fight like literally kill each other

random headcanon: i think it's canon that he was like in a motorcycle gang in high school/college but i'd like to add onto that and say that he was just absolutely batshit from ages like 15-20. just did whatever he wanted, caused problems, etc, then was like "yeah i think i'm gonna go into theatre"

Honestly when it comes to fic and fanon, I dont have any opinion on the category of bond that the canon ships fall into so long as the intensity is still there - like Edward is gay in your fic and Bella is still a girl and they're not involved? I'd read that - so long as they are still absolutely best friends who would 100% die for each other as well as any SOs they got. Rosalie is a lesbian in love with Leah/Bella/Victoria/Angela/your OC? I support you, so long as the bond between Emmett and her still roars with the ferocity of the thousands of fires that burned within her as she hauled his ass a thousand miles to immortality. In fact, it actually quenches my thirst for genuinely platonic m/f bonds to imagine fics where the canon ships are portrayed as just really intense friendships - but you know what? Idec if its friendship - fuck, make em rivals for their SO's hearts or ultra nemeses if you like. But let em obsess, they have literally eternity to care way too much about each other

i have so many gripes for my boy about voltron in general, and obviously many from s8.

black. first of all, why did they want to kill shiro off? after the entire first 2 seasons of him earning black’s trust and respect, of him building that deep connection ( and its significant, you can see that in his battle with zarkon ) only to violently rip that from him only 2 seasons in? why. why do all that work only to fucking trash it in the end? because that was their goal. make shiro want and want black so bad, then pull it only for keith to get that in less than half the time? it was easy for keith. or maybe that just was the plan all along and shiro had to fight for that trust because he was never meant to have it to begin with ( which now makes me incredibly sad to think about ). and don’t get me wrong, i love keith so much more than this might let on, and i do think he’s worthy to be black paladin. but goddamnit shiro worked so hard to be black paladin and it amounted to nothing ( until fans were upset enough that higher ups literally told them to find a way to bring him back ). and then after they bring shiro back, it was literally to keep his soul within black. they made it so that black literally kept shiro’s essence alive within themselves. WHAT WAS THE POINT OF THAT IF BLACK WASN’T TO BE HIS, AND TO DESTROY HIS BOND BY SAYING IT NO LONGER EXISTS. shiro literally meant jack diddly in the end to enough people that s8 completely destroyed his character.

sendak. as stated, i love keith with all of my heart. i have no doubts that his love for shiro, platonic or otherwise, would drive him to do everything he could for shiro. but why, whywhywhy did the writers take away sendak’s death and give it to keith? we get it. you’re just beating a dead horse at this point with keith’s constant ability to save shiro from life and death situations. his love has been made known. we been knew for 6 seasons. but goddamn, can shiro have some form of autonomy when it comes to his own life? can he be anything unless keith is saving him? is this purposeful because shiro was keith’s driving force for his garrison life? is this what happens when a character is brought back when they weren’t supposed to? i have no doubts that shiro is forever grateful for all that keith does for him. but everything that has happened to shiro, every villain who has taken away his choice when it comes to his own person, HIS OWN BODY; shiro was never given closure for that ( except maybe when it came to zarkon ). this isn’t about revenge for me. this is about shiro finally getting the control of his own life that could have been presented to him. he literally fought and fought sendak only to fall from a ship and be left exposed on the ground? for keith to jump out of black to strike him down personally? which is so extra vld, so fucking extra. and it hurt me. it hurt me personally that keith took the weight of sendak’s death and shiro was left to watch once more as someone else had that control over his life.

keith. ok so maybe this piece is about keith more than anything but, shiro literally loves this man. idfc what anyone has to say about it. he loves keith and that should have been said, by shiro, to keith. it should have. fucking. after everything they’ve been through keith deserved to hear that. i know it’s common knowledge through actions that these two mean something significant to the other, but goddam. after everything that boy did for shiro, he deserved to hear, out loud, that someone loves him so much they would go to death’s door for him in return. the point of this is that shiro was also robbed of returning keith’s feelings. idec if it was to be platonic, i literally don’t fucking care after the fuckery of s8, but shiro’s character deserved to show keith some measure of the same devotion he was shown. because you can’t tell he wouldn’t have. you can’t tell me that shiro wouldn’t have given keith love in return.

shiro. what the fuck even is s8? admittedly, i enjoyed the purpose of what s8 was supposed to represent. but like so many others, everything that was omitted killed the season. allura’s death killed the season. lotor’s dismissal and torture killed the season. shiro as a prop? killed the season. where was the depth to s8? was it actually supposed to end at s8, or was that rushed for some other reason? i feel like so many things were cut out to pack the big war, the big battle, the big sacrifice into 13 short episodes. shiro has no purpose in the show anymore, after making him the reason of the show for so many seasons. i’m sorry, my bias will show, and i will defend that voltron easily became about shiro and keith in the end, and that was threatening to some people and it was completely omitted in s8. but shiro amounted to nothing in s8, even removing keith from the situation. becoming one with the atlas? shrug. having connections with the paladins? shrug. spending time with those paladins at a fuckin carnival? shrug. yes, yes i firmly believe that the sunset belonged to shiro and it was the perfect moment for shiro to actually express his gratitude and love for keith. because shiro would have known where to find keith, not lance. i’m not even sorry for how ship biased that makes me sound. lmao, also, that little stupid credit end is a load of bullshit because shiro fought for the stars for his entire life and they just took that from him like it meant nothing for 7 seasons. leaves his ex for the stars? check. survives being champion? check. wants to be paladin so much he fights for black’s acceptance? check. his clone, which embodies shiro, wants nothing more than to be a paladin no matter what? check. him getting married to a nobody and settling on earth? ??? who tf wrote this ending?

anyway, i’m fucking disappointed in vld s8, and i refuse to acknowledge it as canon. i will literally rewrite everything for myself. lotor will have his redemption, allura will save him just like she saved lance and shiro, honerva will die for her choices, and her death alone will be enough to end the realities being destroyed. allura will live, and yeah, she’ll probably be with lotor because it ended in that progression anyway ( i love a//urance a lot but her connection with lotor progressed into something that moved away from a//urance ), shiro will show, and tell keith that he loves him in return, keith will still give the blade the purpose of restoring what the war destroyed, pidge hunk and lance will be the trio together coming full circle, lance will actually be given the development he deserved and not be consumed by allura??, coran will be so sappy crying sad that allura literally gets to live out her life and he gets to see it happen, team earth squad will have their moments, hunk will revisit shay, pidge will actually find the olkarion, matt will keep the ponytail and live with his robot ‘friend’, lotor will get to bring about the change that he meant for ( obviously did not make the greatest choices in how to get there, but it’ll happen and he deserves to see it happen ), and shiro will travel the galaxies, living a full life doing exactly what he dreamed of for years.

So i started blacklist w/ my mom and sister, and have been formulating a “how Red and Liz are connected” theory, (predictably, it involves Poly traids) and then i ran across the “Red is Liz’s Mom” theory which.

Holy shit.

HOLY SHIT

IS SO MUCH BETTER THEN MINE

JUST, “Red” is both the play on Reddington’s name and Katarina’s (note, I’m still early in the series, i just got spoiled for the ploline involving all this) Russian origins, Red’s references to having plastic surgery done, the fact that they’ve done a trans storyline b4, (right? I thought i heard something about that…). IF, if Raymond Reddington is Liz’s bio dad but our Red isn’t him, plus original Ray was Katarina’s mark! It would make total sense for K to kill him (or take advantage of his death) and assume his place, esp if she/they/he wasn’t cis anyway

OH MY GOD, THE WAY RED SITS

Legs crossed tightly together, i always interpreted that as a sign he’s queer, (in my experience well dressed queer men give very few shits about manspreading) BUT it is also how filmmakers position powerful women (usually wearing pencil skirts) in every piece of media I’ve ever seen

Oh, Mr. Kaplan and nb!Red bonding over queerness and genderfuckery, the easy intimacy Red exhibits, the three piece suits, layering weight and clothing over curves he has to hide? What if among the burn scars and bullet holes there’s two faint shallow lines on his chest, an ugly surgical scar low on his belly, the edges of which barely show above the cut of his perfectly tailored pants? What if Red's not who we think even at the most fundamental viewer assumptions?

Nothing is ever simple on this show, theres layers on layers of plot and secrecy. This would barely rank on the scale.

Anyway, it makes a lot of sense. Idec if the show confirms it, or blows it out of the water, it’s canon in my heart.
