Not to be rude or derailing your answer to the ask about the scorched earth post, but I do think quite genuinely that the site is becoming more openly hostile to its userbase, or at the very least its disabled userbase. While I’m not a fan of mobbing people’s personal blogs in targeted harassment campaigns, I think some people are also ignoring that staff blatantly said in a recent post that epileptic users would need to pay for ad-free to have their safety assured
I kind of don’t think that’s being ethical or user friendly, to me that sounds like they’re refusing to meet basic accessibility requests and answering with ‘pay us money to be safe’. Strobing and flashing ads aren’t just eyestraining, they can legitimately lead to serious injuries for epileptic folk, and telling people with epilepsy to just pay up or get lost is kinda… I dunno… disgusting?
So it looks like in a livestream (not on a post so far as I've been able to see) either photomatt or zingring made a glib and inappropriate response to an epileptic user asking about flashing ads and suggested that maybe they needed to pay for ad-free.
That's bad, I don't like it, and if it was supposed to be a joke it was a shitty one.
Zingring, tumblr's COO addressed that comment in a post where she said:
Buying ad-free (or gifting ad-free to someone else) is always an option, but that is not the solution (and of course, some folks simply can’t afford it). Sorry that it sounded dismissive in the session! That was not my intent.
I still think that's inappropriate (it's not that ad free isn't *the* solution, ad free shouldn't be *a* solution to accessibility), but it looks like Zingring has addressed this issue multiple times.
She got tagged in this post listing ways that tumblr could improve accessibility for photosensitive users and seems to have pretty consistently followed up; she has explained that there are rules against flashing ads that are sometimes violated by the advertisers and asks people to please report ads that break those rules so those advertisers can be blocked, has noted that there is apparently a "stop all autoplay" option in the works behind the scenes. She does also seem to take it seriously when users reach out with complaints about accessibility issues and seems to be willing to explore options.
Looking through that blog, this does not seem to be a site that is hostile to users with accessibility issues so much as, like everything else that's wrong around here, it is ridiculously understaffed so every project that someone wants to have as a priority is a project that someone else needs put on the backburner.
However, to very gently push back: how much of what you're experiencing as hostility from tumblr is actual hostility and how much of it is seeing posts like this, which suggests that tumblr is removing accessibility features because the lightbox didn't have double-tap-to-zoom on mobile for some users for a short while, claims that the blocking/flagging issue is a false flag against trans women, shared the inaccurate fearmongering post about tumblr live's ToS, and also claimed that tumblr "allowed" flashing ads that violated the in-place rules that tumblr has for advertising?
(this kind of goes with the 'nobody understands the ToS' but also nobody understands ads; tumblr does not have enough staff to look over the ads that go on their site every day, no social media company does, they rely on advertiser agreements as a sort of enhanced honor system and reports from users if the advertisers don't hold up their end of the bargain; the only way around this for any site that uses ads is to not have ads and that post is explicitly saying don't pay for tumblr because they are doing ads wrong - either they have to run ads and some bad ones are going to slip through and users will have to report them or tumblr will have to be 100% paid by the users or tumblr will go away. If you see ads that are unsafe for photosensitive users on *any* website you should report them to the site because the site almost certainly doesn't know that there's an advertiser violating the ad ToS unless someone tells them)
Generally speaking, I am actually *not* seeing worsening accessibility features, I'm seeing improvements compared to where we were five years ago - alt text on images is now built-in and devs are working hard on making tumblr more compatible with screen readers (as noted in the changes blog regularly); tumblr itself started offering different dashboard themes for users after years of complaints about contrast levels and readability; the "tiktok/twitterified" desktop dash view that everyone hates is supposed to be more readable on wider screens.
Compare this post in October of 2022 when Changes celebrated adding animations for posting (and told users those could only be disabled at an OS or browser level) with this post from July 2023 when they rolled back a feature because of an unexpected use case that could cause problems for photosensitive users.
These aren't things that I'd expect to see from a company that didn't care about accessibility, or that was openly hostile to questions around making the site more accessible.
I don't disagree with you that the comment from the stream about buying ad free was inappropriate; it absolutely was and it must have made photosensitive users feel like shit. But in the three months since that comment tumblr has been very responsive about getting flashing ads removed as soon as possible and seems to be working on more permanent fixes. I think this may be an instance of able-bodied people not realizing how shitty and dehumanizing their joke was (and it was) and taking the steps to do better.
If you don't think they're doing better, I probably can't convince you. I certainly don't think that tumblr is perfect about accessibility and I think that users need to continue pushing for improved user control of how the site displays and interacts with various devices. But compared to the kind of responses users complaints got from staff in 2018? I feel like things have improved a lot.

20 Questions for Fic Writers
Thank you for the tag, my darling @itbmojojoejo 💙
1. How many works do you have on ao3(or masterlist)? - I've only ever uploaded to Tumblr. I have 4 stories total (but all have multiple parts).
2. What’s your total ao3/tumblr word count? - I literally never counted until now - 66,700 (plus an additional 3500 in the works)
3. What fandoms do you write for? - Mostly just Ewanverse (Salad Days, High Life, and TLK) but I have recently dabbled in HOTD (Modern AU Aegon & Aemond)
4. Top five fics by kudos - I'll just do top 3 with the most notes since I don't have many fics: Temptation Part 1 (Ettore/High Life - DD;DNE), Surrender Part 1 (Aegon Modern AU), Redemption Part 1 (Will- Salad Days)
5. Do you respond to comments? - YES! It is the BEST part of writing!
6. What is the fic you wrote with the angstiest ending? - I'm a sucker for happy endings. Temptation was definitely angsty but the ending of Part 2 of Surrender could also be considered a different sort of angsty (wiggles eyebrows).
7. What is the fic you wrote with the happiest ending? - Definitely Redemption (Will - Salad Days) but I'd say Devotion (Osferth - TLK) is a close second.
8. Do you get hate on fics? - No, I think I would crumple and cry if I ever did!
9. Do you write smut? - My fics are porn with little plot 😈
10. Craziest crossover? - Haven't considered but now you got me thinking!
11. Have you ever had a fic stolen? - I sure hope not.
12. Have you ever had a fic translated? - Not to my knowledge
13. Have you ever co-written a fic before? - No, I think that would be difficult to blend creative ideas but kudos to those that do it!
14. All time favorite ship? - Call me crazy but I happened upon the most beautifully written fic on ao3 with the most unusual pairing but I instantly fell in love - Aemond x Aethelstan (TLK): A Red Dawn Rises by Avonne. Give it a read!
15. What’s a wip you want to finish but doubt you ever will? - I literally fell hard for Aethelstan when writing Devotion and I tried my hand at writing for him. I do not think I will finish his story but I dearly love the character.
16. What are your writing strengths? - The smut! It comes most naturally despite never writing smut (or anything actually) until I published my first fic last summer.
17. What are your writing weaknesses? - Comprehensively telling a story without needing a ton of words to do so. I am working on keeping my fics shorter while still conveying a complete story without going overboard!
18. Thoughts on dialogue in another language? - I like it but I also need to know what they are saying so I can follow along.
19. First fandom you wrote in? - Ewanverse - Will from Salad Days
20. Favorite fic you’ve written? - Devotion is my personal favorite, there's just something calming and sweet about Osferth and his story flowed from my brain effortlessly.
No pressure tags for funsies/to help you procrastinate (sorry if you've already been tagged): @myfandomprompts @arcielee @sylasthegrim @thekinslayed @theoneeyedprince @inthedayswhenlandswerefew

GET TO KNOW YOUR ADMIN !!
Tumblr media
name — Rae.
pronouns — she/her.
preferred comms — If my writing partner isn't too chatty, doesn't like plotting much/only wants to establish a first meeting, and doesn't like muns sending them random things that remind them of our muses? Then tumblr, definitely. For everyone who is the opposite of the above? Discord. I show no restraint on sending applicable aesthetics at 3 AM if I find it.
name of muse — Sonia Nevermind, Crown Princess of Novoselic, Hope's Peak Academy's Ultimate Princess, horror/occult aficionado, chocolate connoisseur, culinary and housekeeping disaster, and generally one of the most cheerful people your muse will ever meet. TalentSwap!AU and post-DR2 game canon does not apply where 'cheerful' is concerned.
experience in RP — As of this...er, season, I'll have been roleplaying off and on for the past 24 years. I started roleplaying in autumn 1999 (my middle school RP days were indeed something). Should I have a celebration for when I hit a quarter century of roleplaying experience? Quarter life crisis?
best experiences — I don't want to boil the best experiences down to specific muses/muns/storylines, but the best way I can describe them are these: when I first started roleplaying, it was in the fandom written by the Wizard Lady and roleplaying on AOL/Yahoo/LiveJournal was just so new. There were no real expectations or rules to follow, and while there was plenty of godmodding and things that didn't make sense, it was just ridiculous fun. The second would be every time I'm able to make a friend in the mun I'm writing with and we've got giant plotlines going with all sorts of scenes and situations that allow the muses to grow and develop over time. That is truly the best part of RP for me now.
pet peeves / dealbreakers — I have a few, including but not limited to: super small text, multiple spaces between words for aesthetics (it's hard to read for me!), one-liners/single paragraph replies that aren't dashcomm or crack, uncut threads, giant icons/gifs/Danganronpa sprites, not tagging posts (but especially OOC, aesthetics, and smut), constantly dropped threads while asking for more starters/memes (hiatuses aside), no bios or muse information beyond a name/fandom (for both canon and OC muses), and instant shipping (or after 1-2 threads/interactions. It's not for me).
muse preference ( fluff, angst, smut ) — Yes! To all three. My favorite interactions have some fluff, humor, and/or soft situations when the angst gets too angsty, and some angst or conflict when the muses get too settled in and content in the lives. Generally, my least favorite thing to write is action/combat scenes, most fantasy (urban fantasy might be the exception but high fantasy stuff? Not my thing to write), and sci-fi plots. I do write smut and I enjoy writing smut, but I like it in the context of a larger storyline and with a bigger purpose beyond just the muses having sex. It's why you'll never see smut starters on this blog and why, if I'm going to write smut with a mun, I've probably plotted with them about it first.
plot or memes — Plots and memes if I'm unfamiliar with your muse, which is highly likely for anime/video game/comic muses, and anything 'recent' in the past 10-15 years. But I'm fine with just memes if I'm familiar with the fandom/muse or we have past interactions I can build off of. But in general I'm a fan of plotting.
long or short replies — Long replies nowadays, always. Mostly because one-liners and short paragraph replies just aren't fun for me: I feel most creative and enjoy roleplaying more with long replies at this point. And I'm reluctant to spend time writing anything for fun if I'm not having a good time doing it: and short replies, beyond crack or dashcomm, are just not a good time for me.
best time to write — Downtime in the mid-afternoon at work, middle of the evening on workdays (after a rest and dinner), and mid-afternoon until the wee hours of the morning on weekends/days off. Late nights and between breakfast and lunch are just no good for me, writing-wise.
are you like your muse — Unfortunately I am not blonde, European, royalty, conventionally beautiful, and constantly full of optimism. However, I enjoy horror movies (Sonia knows more than I do), chocolate, tea, and much of Sonia's fashion inspiration here because I saw her in DR2 and was just 'classic styles with feminine touches? ballgowns? it's my closet.' I'd be her snarky, pessimistic best friend unable to stop with the quips while telling her 'Sonia bb let me teach you how to make toast it does not involve buttering it before it goes in the toaster.'

9. How do you find new fic to read?
Go to the GaaLee tag and sort by new, lol, since I've read almost everything in there at this point. If I'm joining a new fandom I'll generally sort by complete and under 15k by kudos for the pairing I'm interested in, or find an author I like and go through all their works and bookmarks, but in my old age I've become deeply accustomed to my single ship. I miss the reclists of ye olden LJ days; they were a great way to find hidden and underappreciated gems.
18. If you wrote a sequel to [insert fic], what would it involve?
Since you didn't specify a fic, I've got a couple of sequels/expansions on my existing fics planned.
For years now I've been planning to write a remix of if nobody moves, nobody will get hurt called 'if nobody gets hurt', which is basically the original story but expanded and from Gaara's POV.
There's an after-the-happily-ever-after epilogue to The Stolen Child that's actually based on a post someone made about it here on Tumblr ... but I need to ask their permission first, and I've been too shy.
There's a prequel to Worship as I Please that goes into the much-requested alcove in Grass Country, though probably not in the way that most people are hoping for (it's a pining-while-fucking fic, so heavy on the pain).
There's also an epilogue to To Love Like Broken Glass that @we-return-in-waves requested, which I won't give too much away about.
And finally, there's a part 2 to Try Again, where Lee teaches Gaara to do much more than kissing.
27. How long did it take to write [insert fic]? Describe the process.
Since there wasn't a fic specified, I guess I'll go with my most recent fic, Tsuru no Danna. I originally hoped to write the fic in one, one-hour sitting like I've done with a couple other fics recently, but it ended up being a bigger story than I planned. Ultimately, though, I think I wrote it in like 3 hourlong sittings over 2 weeks or so? That doesn't include the amount of time I spent outlining and 'marinating' on it (by far the longest part of my process). I also had to forgo my entire typical editing process so that I could make it in time for HorrorFest.
36. Do you visualize what you read/write?
Oh, definitely. What I write way moreso than what I read. When I'm reading, I'm generally pretty immersed in the story, so unless something's just super-duper visually evocative, I'm just really absorbed in the words more than anything. When I'm writing, though, I definitely swing wildly between "I know exactly how I want to describe this and the perfect words that sound lovely together" and "I know what's supposed to happen in this sequence and what it would look like but have no idea how to describe it." A lot of my clumsier, uglier sentences come from the latter, but sometimes striking at something 4-5 times to get the perfect sequence churns out a decent one, too.
45. What’s something you’ve improved on since you started writing fic?
I think I've improved on a lot, honestly; when I look back and read my first fic from 2017 it feels very amateurish and awkward to me. But I think I've most improved on developing my own author voice as well as (to an extent) being able to sometimes evoke the voices of other authors. I've gotten a better sense of how to word and pace things to give a poetic feel vs. a fairy tale feel vs. a childlike feel and so on. It's been a journey for sure!!

This is a vent post.
I love my parent, but I'm starting to feel and think they're an entitled or narcissistic parent. Maybe both.
Maybe I'm just crazy, maybe I'm the entitled one, but here's why I think it's possibly them:
Escalations over nothing from my POV.
Accusing me of lying when I don't say something outright, even though it's been shown that I don't always know when I should say something outright, and when I do finally say it I'm told I do this to my own detriment and called an opportunistic liar, and punished.
Grounding me over little things that I stumble over multiple times, or just minoote things like not following a schedule on days where the schedule doesn't really apply. I recognize it's there to help me, but it should be a guideline, not a requirement. Schedules are supposed to be fluid. (But please, if I'm wrong, tell me)
Told to "stop being defensive" when I'm being approached with hostility.
Getting upset when I don't eat specifically on time. (Why are you upset. IM the one who's gonna be hungry, I'm old enough to where that is my choice)
Getting unreasonably upset when I say something that doesn't make sense, and gets told to shut up immediately after. Then asked to speak again, and get angry when I don't.
Hitting me in the arm/chest when really angry.
Calling me bold for ever daring to try and argue my point in any argument. It's blasphemy for a teenager to have opinions when they don't matter, this teenager has lost their mind.
Got told recently that IM abusive when I said what they were doing was abusive. Also recently told I'm an accidental gaslighter. (This may be true, but I question if we're not both abusive to each other, I'm the only abusive one, or it's them and I've been convinced otherwise)
I got grounded just now for trying to argue why I shouldn't be punished for being late, when I wasn't late for school, I was late to get downstairs in time to eat breakfast. Excuse me for wanting to get my work done first before actually cooking a breakfast for myself. As far as I know, I'm not allowed to communicate with my friends. So I'm tagging them in this post so they know I'm not deceased. If you could share this post with other mutual friends (in chats I'm not apart of) that would be great. This isn't communication, it's an ambiguous teenage angst post that's sort of a AITA reddit post without reddit.
So, Tumblr,
Am I the Asshole/Abuser?

The episode of this week was amazing and I felt inspired, so I'm here with the second Buddie fics list!
Guys, when you write something Buddie related please tag me or send it to me. I don't follow many people here on Tumblr due to terrible past experience, and so sometimes I lose a lot of good works on the way. Thanks. Have a super nice day 💚
PS: You can find my recs under the goblinessence buddie fic rec tag or under the top post on my blog.
5 'platonic' terms of endearment (+1 that definitely means more) [Words:3390] by @a-beautiful-struggle-of-life
Perfect fic when you need something light and quite funny.
“Shut up, darling, it’s nothing. Now get gone, my son is waiting to hear how the pirates found the purple dinosaur.” He laughs again before pulling his phone away from his ear, hanging up the call with an achingly soft smile at his screen.
Ana chews her lip, looking away.
Is it weird that her boyfriend has never called her ‘darling’ but calls his best friend that?
When Buddie Learns Chris Has No Filter [Words: 1759]
Don't you just love Christopher Diaz so, so much? Another light fic that I loved.
At a Grant-Nash get-together Maddie asks where Buck had been that morning, Chris enlightens everyone on some new developments...
I want your midnights [Words: 36358] by @littlespooneven
I loved this one so much! I've already read it multiple times, and everytime is just perfect. Definitely one of my comfort fics.
Eddie grins. “Yeah I get that. So can I ask why you applied for the room? No offence but you’re not exactly the kind of candidate I expected.”
Buck laughs, ducking his head. That’s probably true.
“I, uh, I’ve been staying at my girlfriend’s place while she’s travelling but um, my sister moved to LA recently and sort of made the point that I could be overstaying my welcome? Or, well- actually she tried to tell me my girlfriend’s cheating on me and I need to get over it and move out of her place.” Buck shakes his head, eyes widening at what he just implied. “She’s not! Cheating, I mean. She’s just- trying to find herself after losing her mom. She just needs a little space, y’know?”
At least, that’s the excuse Buck’s giving Abby for why she hasn’t called him in over two weeks.
Eddie nods with a vague sort of expression on his face like he hadn’t expected him to overshare that much. Which, oops.
*
In which Eddie decides to rent out his spare room to help with mortgage repayments right around the time Buck decides to move out of Abby's place after some not so gentle prodding from Maddie. It's a coincidence. Or serendipity. Or maybe just really good timing.
I Hate Accidents (Except When We Went From Friends to This) [Words: 7206]
There's this one tag that is very important for this one, which is: they're literally so dumb I can't handle it and it summarizes the whole fic perfectly. Funny, lovely, sweet. I loved it.
“You should just move in,” Eddie said one night.  They were already laying in bed, Buck’s face half-buried in his pillow.
“Where would I sleep, Eddie,” Buck deadpanned, sleep heavy in his voice.
“Here,” Eddie said, not entirely sure how Buck missed that part.  “The same place you’ve been sleeping.”
Bobby raised an eyebrow when Buck updated his address on all of the necessary paperwork, but Eddie wasn’t entirely sure what the big deal was.
~~~~~~~
Buck and Eddie had always been unconventional. Neither of them gave it much thought – they were just them. Buck and Eddie
- partners, best friends, co-parents – just as entangled in each other’s lives as any actual couple in the 118.
Or, the story of how Buck and Eddie went about their relationship in entirely the wrong order.
look into your heart and you'll find love [Words: 11895] by @evanbucklies
Everybody needs some smut from time to time. Also, lots of feelings in this one. I really liked it.
It starts after Eddie’s Abuela breaks her hip.
Not an auspicious start, and certainly not a sexy one, but after Buck introduces him to Carla he’s so damn grateful he barely waits for the door to shut behind her before he’s crowding Buck up against the kitchen counter and dropping to his knees.
-or-
Eddie falls into a friends with benefits relationship with Buck, and then he just keeps falling.
Alrighty peeps, I got an update.
I found a system for me on catching up on late work-
that has worked for a few weeks already!!
I feel so accomplished every time I think about it, because I've been trying to drudge up all ounces of motivation, energy, courage, and more in order to ignore my anxiety about my missing work, and it hasn't worked much.
On Feb 11 or so I started a list of every assignment that I complete.
I have a separate page outlining the rules.
I know myself, and deadlines stress me out and I procrastinate until it's necessary to do them. ( In fact, this was a big reason for my current inability to complete the ones past due.)
So why should I make a deadline?
I shouldn't.
Instead, I have created on the 2nd page some rules, and something to work towards.
Since I am currently consuming every video and stream about the amigops as I can, specifically corpse_husband, I have decided to use his new streams as mine.
Then, since I know the date the stream is made days beforehand, and I know he has a playlist for live streams that have already past, it removes the obligation to do things by a certain time.
Instead, I now have excitement to work on everything to be able to watch it as soon as possible.
On the separate page, I also have added 2 labels. Complete, and Days Passed.
On the day I create my thing to look forward to, I start with 3 assignments to do. If I achieve the 3 on the first day, I add those as marks on my Completed area, and can watch. But every day I don't have the completed area achieved entirely, I add a tally to the area labeled Days Passed.
To paraphrase the last part, I start with 3 on the first day, and add 2 more things to do each tally mark of the Days Passed area, unless I have it completed.
For every assignment I do, I have also gotten in the habit of writing it down on my first page. Today, I looked at the list and it was a full page, when I still believed it was half-full. That was a nice confidence booster!
Currently, my set reward is watching the stream from the 23rd, and I am 8/13 assignments away from it!
There is a bit of math to think of each time I check the list, but that's okay because it makes me want to know how close I am to finishing even more.
The 13 assignment total looks scary, but I am happy because it's been only 5 days and I've made 8 assignments already. That's a vast improvement than previously, where I struggled to even complete 1 in a week.
There are still days I can barely remember to mark a new tally in the Days Passed before I forget, including last night where I literally had to get myself out of bed at 11:30pm because I barely remembered then and knew if I didn't it would be a while before I would again. Perhaps making this some sort of calendar might be better instead of a tally, unclear yet.
I do have to keep myself from going in the tags on tumblr to find out about the streams, though, but I sometimes do and scroll past tings quickly so I can find any more possible lobby notices by them.
I decided not to stop myself from watching any youtube videos at all or old streams of his I've already seen, because I would be bored and wouldn't feel more accomplished if I could do nothing I wanted to when avoiding work. Now, I'm procrastinating a few hours til I forgot about it and enjoying it, then willingly deciding to work on what I can to earn more tally marks in completed quicker so I can see the new streams.
Since these are late or incomplete, they don't have a deadline. So newer assignments don't quite have the same effect as these, which presents a future problem. A nice but unpredicted outcome was me actually completing today's assignment the hour it was given, because I just wanted more tallies added!
I got lucky because corpse decided to create more among us lobbies recently. 😂
I have slight guilt every time I use more of the paper in a notebook, so I tend to write to try and 'save space', which is illogical considering the amount of notebooks made in the world and how if I don't fill it the pages will stay blank and be unused anyway?
Unless you also are having missed work, an interest that is 'updated' multiple times to keep you finding new parts of it, and don't find doing a little math irritating, then this wouldn't work at all for you, but there are probably so many ways to revise this? Sorry 😞
I am mainly just sharing this because I am proud that something I came up with on a whim worked so well for the past few weeks.
I would be very interested in any possible revisions or any comments you have for this
The Near-ish Future in the Post December Tumblr, and where to go for Art.
This topic title is a bit misleading to some, and I sincerely apologize for any confusion thusly. The main reason for me dropping a text post like this on the first place is as follows:
I have not too long ago just finished reviewing the guidelines brought upon the site only months after its implication, and have seen the aftermath. I've not however seen any posts likes this looking too into this subject matter, so to my knowledge I will be the first, (Correct me if I am mistaken.)
Firstly, I wanted to go over the guidelines in two particular areas, regarding automatic registration and posts.
Most of the guidelines I agree with whole heartedly, no question. They offer opportunities for a safer environment for Art and other fun posts; I bare in mind no care for the removal of pornographic content and tumblers, I actually feel safe opening the app in public without hiding in my hoodie. What I do mind is their guidelines on automated posts.
It states in the Tumblr guidelines "Do register accounts or post content automatically, systematically, or programmatically." No other sentance beyond that one sentance on the subject.
I read through this carefully four seperate times, and came to two possibly ways to achive the result of 'automatic' posts; in order of logic from least to most:
1. As a script writtee and programmer, you set up a Jacascript style code into Python and program that to scan your account for any combination of Hml Text. Then it randomly generates Jpg Files that follow the permutations of existing Hml or with the use of the English language and its various symbols and numbers to make brand new content. It must then recognize symbols in the file to appropriate accurate (to a degree) tags in correspondence, and then without question post that bew photo on the sight to create a new post. Rinse and repeat at least once a day and you have yourself an automatic account posting everyday. I could not account for multiple registrations, but I may say that could be another separate program to assist the first in doing this process for multitasking purposes. I may have used improper terminology on this, but hopefully it seems clear on the of set.
2. Say in my situation I want to make this particular account a main stay for my posting library- along with Twitter and Instagram especially- and make nee art once a day for that. Or more logically stock pile art in grinding art sessions for daily posts until a second session comes my way for more art int he future, with bigger projects and commissions coming in anytime. I run the schedule consistently and have my self sort of the same thing, but in a different format and context.
The point is where is the line between automatic posts and scheduled planned out art posts? This is more of a problem for myself because I know I have been labeled dormant, and plan on leaving that soon. And I want to personally make big decisions moving forward with art as a main career, along with my bigger goal of making comics for fun and net gain. If I post pages at a time a day as updates, along with commissions and backlogged art a day, and other possible reblogs, making it more than once a day, is that considered to Tumblr "Automatic?"
To you and I knowing the foreknowledge, absolutely not; but to supervisors of the sight, it seems sketchy to try on my end. They have cracks in the system that still allow some nsfw art to leak through regardless, such as one which occasionally has newd women in compromising poses, with no clear intention behind it other than "We got boobs and butts" and no bio to boast of educational purposes to mask its intentions, again if any at all.
I'm posting this to ask any one following, if you're not one of the billions of porn bots following me, and as a true human being not trying to scam me of my money, to read through this for yourself or share to any others and comment the answer my question:
Should I post my career choice to Tumblr?
I offer commissions to anyone willing, though it may be free for the first few months or even year until i have a proper sight working for PayPal or which ever I so choose.
Thusly you would need proper examples of what my art is before I follow through with this plan. And as such, I will soon post a select few of my Instagram photos along side original art for this account, and some (not all) of my best works of the recent years to give you ideas of what you're asking for.
I thank you for baring through my horrendously verbose post on the matter. I get quite paranoid at many things, and fight my inner "I cant English" to present a better side of me that frankly, I prefer over saying everytime I am still new to English as a second language. (Though by this point I have also graduated two honors English courses in high school as well as write stories for my in progress comic.)
Thank you to you select few homosapiens still around to see this. To 2019 and what it may bring. And here is what I bring to you as a reward: Exhibit #1:
It looks like tags pages have been frozen across the entire site for at least half a day now - on desktop AND mobile. I've checked multiple tags/variations, and they all have the most recent post somewhere around 6pm central time yesterday, nothing after that. So basically, if you post ANYTHING at all on this site, it won't show up in any tag. Not sure what caused this or when it will be fixed, but I figured it would be helpful for people to know about it.
hello, i am aware, it has happened to myself + some friends. tumblr has already been alerted and hopefully they'll be able to solve it soon; i'm not sure if it's directly related to the whole banned tags issue, but it definitely has some sort of correlation to it. from what i've heard from my friends, posts do show up eventually, but it takes hours to show up (which as a gifmaker is extremely frustrating).
EDIT: i’ve been made aware that since jan 1st (around 1pm est), no new posts are showing up in the tags on any browser or app. 5ummit has a post here.
I've recently stumbled across the word "otherkin" and it seems to describe certain feelings I have, but the tumblr tags seem to be full of unuseful information and, well, silliness. I'm sort of looking for people to talk to while I try to sort myself out, without making too much light of it. Do you have any advice on sifting through everything?
Besides going ‘AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA’ and never doing anything about it?
First things first. You’re new, so we’re going to divide this into two parts. Part one, crash course on otherkinity, alterhumanity, and the little branches of it you should know about. Those words and terms will help you figure out what’s what. Part two is great, you know all these terms, how do you sort through the mess that is kinfeels.
Under a readmore because long, since I ramble sometimes. I’m glad you asked, and if you have any further questions, hit me up again and I’ll do what I can.
Part One: What Even Is Otherkinity
Otherkinity is identifying involuntarily and nonphysically as something nonhuman. You aren’t saying you are physically this thing (as you are physically human), you cannot choose to be this thing and can’t choose not to be this thing, and you do not identify as human 100%.
The modifiers: Fictionkin means you can be something that is human, but it must be fictional (like Harry Potter or Percy Jackson or smth). You can be a member of a fictional species that isn’t human (like the Elf Queen’s Daughters of the early 70s that started the fictionkin community). It is still involuntary and nonphysical.
Otherkinity is divided into three ‘main’ branches: therianthropy, otherkinity, and fictionkind. Therians (or therianthropes) ID as an animal that has been or is on Earth. Like dinosaurs or foxes. There are an absurd amount of wolf therians here on tumblr. Those that are obviously faking or haven’t questioned enough for even themselves and just went with ‘wolf’ because it’s cool are called wolfaboos. Usually I just don’t talk to them, since to each their own and they’re not actively being annoying, but please don’t just “oh I’m not human clearly I’m a wolf” the moment you get kinfeels. Things don’t... work... like that...
Anyway. Otherkinity as a sublabel of itself generally has within it our conceptkin (I’m calling it that for now. Things like voidkin or starkin), theriomythics (fantasy animals within mythology such as unicorns and youkai), draconics (draconity, which is dragons and pretty self explanatory), the vampire and were____ communities, and probably a few others.
Fictionkind I already went over. I have three kintypes that are fictionkind in nature. They are called fictotypes for this reason. (Kintypes is the label for all of them, but there is also theriotypes and fictotypes for therianthropy and fictionkind.)
Those fictotypes are Pale Noël from the Evillious Chronicles, a noncanon Devil from DSP’s works, and an Absol from Pokemon. As I have more than two kintypes, I am in what we call ‘polykin hell’. Though tbh, most people put themselves in polykin hell when they’re up past five. Poor guys.
The things that are close to otherkinity but not actually it!
Copinglinkers- They ID as something voluntarily to cope with something. Usually trauma or mental illness. While not otherkin, they are alterhuman and do belong in our community. They are also called copingkin, which is a bit outdated but since copinglink is a new term, I’ll let it slide. (It was coined by @who-is-page, actually, and they are a delight to follow if you want to see antikin absolutely dragged through the mud.)
Otherhearted- Those who identify not as something but with it. As an example, I am faehearted and shadowhearted. I identify with those things because one of my fictotypes did, and that carried over. It is very easy to mistake heartfeels for kinfeels. Regardless, like c’linkers and ‘kin they are alterhuman and totally rad.
Synpaths- Tbh I’m not quite sure what’s the difference between synpaths and ‘hearted. (I have heard it is ‘ID with this’ versus ‘I want to hug that’ but you should not be asking me; as I don’t have a fuckin’ clue.) Either way, if you think you have a synpath go research that. Please don’t ask me, I don’t know. All I know is that they exist and they do stuff, so they’re worth mentioning.
There are also ways to be otherkin, for lack of a better term. Ways you explain why you identify as these things. There are two main ‘branches’ to this: spiritual and psychological. There are also religious, cultural, and probably a few other reasons, but let’s go with the ones off the top of my head.
Spiritual- Can be anything from ‘my soul is this and my body is not’ to ‘I was this in a past life, and it is still relevant’. (You can have past lives that aren’t kintypes. The difference is simply how much they affect you. I do believe I had a life a fuckass long time ago in second age Senntisten, but as it isn’t relevant outside of vague memories of fire, it isn’t a fictotype of mine.)
Psychological- Anything from ‘I used this as a c’link at one point but it is now irreversible, and I am this now’ to ‘My brain decided to be wired weird and now I ID as this’. Essentially, you have a psychological reasoning for being kin or hearted or whatev. Psychological otherkin get thrown under the bus a lot because really angry copinglinks insist they’re kin and we’re “gatekeeping ableist jerks”. The difference is that c’links choose and can drop their identity. Psychological otherkin cannot. The line can be pretty blurred, and in that case you’d best just slap down “I am this, currently questioning if c’link or kintype”. Literally nobody can yell at you for that. I’ve had to do it before. Never did figure out what it was, but it doesn’t matter now.
Religious- I don’t see this one as often, but I think it’s something along the lines of ‘my God wants me to feel like I’m this for X reason’? Or maybe it’s a past life thing that your religious says you have. (I think Buddhism does that, but I am no religious scholar and I might be wrong.)
Cultural- I’ve seen this mostly in Native American folks, but I’m sure they’re not the only ones. What I have seen is ‘my family have always been crows, so I am a crow therian’. I don’t know much about Native cultures, despite having grown up around them, so I suppose if you had cultural reasons, you’d already know? I do believe spirit animals play into this, but I’m what we call ‘exotic white bread’ and I am not the authority. But I also don’t know who to redirect you to about this. Hm. I’m gonna have to go asking around.
And of course, to finish off part one: multiplicity. That’s a fun one.
Multiple systems aren’t kin. Not hearted either or anything. They’re the other ‘main branch’ of being alterhuman. They are usually several people trying to pilot one body. They use terms like fictive, which is not fictionkin(d), though the two get confused an awful lot. A fictionkind person is someone who IDs as someone or something fictional. A fictive is a part of a multiple system who IS that person, with usually no other identity.
Using myself as an example: I am fictionkind, and one of my fictotypes has green hair. I do not have green hair right now, and that fictotype is not my entire identity. A fictive is more like “hi I’m Harry Potter and I live here now, in your body, with you”. That would be his entire identity: he is Harry Potter.
Factives are close to that, but real people that do or have existed on Earth. That’s like “hi I’m Shakespeare and I live here now”. It’s possible to have system members that are neither. That’s chill.
Supposedly, multiple systems can be both trauma-born and not-trauma-born. The latter is usually called endogenic, I think. DID/OSDD are two disorders that cause multiplicity, but as far as I know they are not the only ways to have multiplicity. You can soulbond and things, which is like the copinglink for multiplicity as in you bring someone in voluntarily. (Tulpas are also a multiplicity thing.)
Part Two: How Do I Deal With Maybe Being Otherkin Without Just Screaming Into The Void
First things first. My way is not the only way to do it. It is one method, but it tends to work for lots of people so here’s the method I know. It’s chill to ask around and figure out what others do, and then find the method that works for you.
Second things second. Do not ask a pendulum or divination blog to kinfirm something. It is a terrible method. You can divine yourself, but do not ask anyone online. Nobody’s divination is always right, and when you’re doing it online, the chance of being right drops exponentially. Bad method, 0/10 do not recommend. (You can totally divine for yourself, though. My tarot deck is particularly sassy about my own god complex from kinfeels.)
And the actual method.
1. Go create a sideblog. Name it whatever, find a nice theme you like. Make sure it is readable and not just pretty.
2. Make a tags page. I suggest doing this over a couple of days, because you are going to forget what tags you need. You want to sort between ‘angry vagueing about nothing making sense’ from ‘feels related to this’.
3. Document EVERYTHING EVER. If you think it is kin related, write that down. If you have vague memories of something, write that down too. Tag it appropriately, if only so you can find it later. (’tag later’ is a good tag if you’re on the go and know you’ll forget if you don’t write it down now.)
What I also do is fill this blog specifically with images that resonate with me. I use a queue and tagging system for this. (White blossoms is the tag for gentle TLW things; whereas black blossoms is General Edge(TM).) You should put images that resonate with you in a Particularly Kin Way on that blog. If it’s art or anything, remember to source it, though. Reblog, don’t repost.
Also, if you’re into requesting things from kin blogs like stimboards or aesthetics, have a reqs tag for them! Keeps it all in one place and you know where you got them from. I like JUST put in mine and I am angry I didn’t do it before.
Then, self introspection. You need to ask why on everything ever. Question things. Do you do insertthinghere because your parents said so, or does it seem like you just have to?
If questioning feels very upsetting or uncomfortable, stop for the day. I don’t recommend any more than an hour and half in one go. Your brain will confirm things that aren’t true in order to work with you. (Confirmation bias, I think it’s called.) Keep the questioning to short bursts, even if you’re on a roll.
If you must go longer, document document DOCUMENT. Writing things down makes them clearer, and halfway through writing you’ll go “oh shit that’s why that happens”.
It’s okay if your writing is messy or only makes sense to you. This is all your own, and how you go about it is entirely your decision.
Questioning should take you weeks or months. There are a few outliers who can kinfirm something in two days and be right, but let’s be honest here: nobody likes them because we all envy them and want to be them, so we don’t like them. All jokes aside, keep it to a pace you can handle and don’t bite off more than you can chew.
Got all that? Good. Now do a shit ton of research. If you’re questioning, say, harpykin, chase links across Wikipedia and read everything you can get your hands on about harpies. You might come across something else that’s close to it: off the top of my head, the Maximum Ride series, for example, is close-ish to harpies. Check that out too, but if it doesn’t resonate, don’t push it. If it ain’t a thing and you know it isn’t, don’t bother with it, it’ll get you nowhere.
Ask around! Don’t be afraid to ask someone “hey do you think this could happen?” Nobody’s input is the end all be all, but if they’re someone you think is educated on the matter, take it into consideration. (You would not believe how much of an idiot I felt like while doing research on demonology and a friend pointed out that Christianity is not the only religion with demons. It’s obvious, but never occurred to me. You will get that feeling at some point. Happens to the best of us.)
Lastly, go at your own pace. And if you have done all of this, it will be several months from now. Go back and look at your oldest kin documents. You will understand it all so much better, and you’ll mentally high-five your past self for knowing so little, but being so full of hope anyway.
Of course, if after all of this someone tries to invalidate you, it won’t work. You’ll have done the research, the self introspection, the grueling grind of “why why why?”. They can’t tell you the sky is red if you’re not colourblind. If they try to grill you for your information, you can point them nicely towards your probably-a-trainwreck of a sideblog and they will see your documented adventure of ‘what am I?’. And then they will stop talking, because you have proven that you know what’s up.
And as the very last piece of advice? You will be wrong. And there is absolutely nothing wrong with that. You can be questioning. You can say “I don’t fucking know!!”. You are allowed to have bumps and wrong turns in your journey. They will happen. It’s okay. Take a deep breath, see where you might have made a mistake, write that down, and keep going. Progress is progress. You’ll figure it out eventually, no need to know it all right this very minute.
I hope this helps, little anon! This is how I came to find out I was- and I’m not done yet, either. I have some oceanic kinfeels that I know exist but don’t know what they are: fuckers better show themselves to me soon because I’m onto them. Who knows where that adventure will take me.
Tag game that I was not tagged in but I saw @carsonsweebabyturtles do it and decided it looked more fun than work, so here I am 😆
1. Why did you choose your url?
To match my AO3 handle, which was a mix of previously existing nicknames that I like
2. Any side blogs?
Just recently started a personal sideblog! @deeper-into-the-chaos
3. How long have you been on Tumblr?
Less than two years 🙈 I was not even aware of its existence before 2019
4. Do you have a queue tag?
Nope! I use the queue almost all the time, but I've genuinely never understood why queue tags are used..?
5. Why did you start your blog in the first place?
To see fan art and to share my fics
6. Why did you choose your icon/pfp?
Because Luci is a hedonistic little demonmonkeycat and I really identify with that
Also I just really like the Aesthetic
7. Why did you choose your header?
*saves draft and goes to look at header*
Oh right! Because I made it and I'm proud of my terrible little piece of fan art 😆
8. What’s your post with the most notes?
A tumblr tagging PSA with things I noticed around avoiding having your posts hidden by tumblr, it somehow got reblogged by a Big Blog. It's somewhere in the 3-4,000 range of notes I think, but doesn't pop up in my notifications much anymore.
...it was honestly kind of a terrifying experience 😂 In large part because I got some things wrong in the original post and regretted not testing / researching it more thoroughly first 🙈
9. How many mutuals do you have?
I have no idea... that sounds like it involves counting. Probably not very many, though. I decided early on that I wouldn't do the automatic mutual follow, both to carefully tailor what I see on my dash as well as to avoid getting myself mired in the 'but I followed them why didn't they follow me' sulks.
10. How many followers do you have?
345 👀 Which kind of astounds me, but I'm not complaining 😂 I just always hope people read my header blurb and/or my pinned tagging system post so they know what they're getting into before a random niche kink post shows up in their feed one day 😅
11. How many people do you follow?
79. I suffer from terrible FOMO (fear of missing out), and I actually have to be really careful - when I follow too many tumblrs I get stuck for way too long, multiple times a day, frantically scrolling to catch up every last new post on my dash. It's... not great 🙈😬
I also just vastly prefer to follow blogs that use some sort of reliable tagging system, out of personal preference.
12. Have you ever made a shitpost?
Yes! I know for sure I've made one (1). Possibly a few others, but I'm not sure cause I've never been certain what exactly counts as a shitpost.
13. How often do you use Tumblr each day?
Probably way too much. I'd estimate I check it maybe ~5-10x a day, typically?
14. Did you have a fight/argument with another blog once?
Not that I'm aware of? But in fairness, social awareness is really not one of my strong points 😂
[Case in point; walking through the park with my partner just yesterday and looking at all the people bbqing and picnicking. Me, noticing the group of particular well-dressed people nearby: Oh hey looks like a wedding going on too! (there's a church across the street from the park) - My partner, in a much quieter voice than I'd been using: No chaos, that's for a funeral. That's why they're all in black. (...there's a church across the street from the park). Whoops]
15. How do you feel about “you need to reblog this” posts?
I loathe them. Nothing makes me scroll without looking faster than being told what to do.
(Especially when it's incredibly not important stuff, I really wish that chain email style nonsense would just stop already. Reblogging a post will not bring you luck or grant wishes; it didn't work with chain letters and emails 30 years ago and it doesn't work with internet posts now 🙃)
16. Do you like tag games?
Yes! So long as it's not the ones that just make me suspect someone is mining information to defraud password reset / identity verification questions.
17. Do you like ask games?
Also yes! I like the excuse to ask other people random things and to answer other people's questions about random things.
18. Which of your mutuals do you think is Tumblr famous?
... no idea 🙈
Tumblr media
19. Do you have a crush on a mutual?
Yup! 😊
-
(Not tagging anyone because Brian is misbehaving lately and making me second-guess everything, but if you see this and think Hey that looks like fun, please consider yourself tagged!! 💙)
