whenever i've worked in retail it has always been emphasised that the Thing To Do when a customer comes in is to approach them and do a big smile and go "hi, how are you!! do you need help finding anything today?" (or something similar).

i thought it was universally agreed that nobody enjoys this, but my friend informs me that apparently this line not only works but noticeably improves sales. so, poll:

Headcanon: Lucifer visits Earth every decade or so as a part of his job as the ruler of Hell. He does it to learn about new sins as "subtly" as he could.

Lucifer: What is ray-sings-sims? Raising-sims? Raisins? Rain-Race-sin? R-Racisms? YES! That! Is it the one where people hate on the opposite sex for absolutely no reason even though humans were all made of the same cosmic dust?

Black woman: (Looking amused at the most stereotypical rich white guy she's ever met asking about sexism and racism.)

Lucifer: Yeah. This cocaine thing is doing nothing for me. I don't really get it, but this is a sin too. So marking that off the list! Thanks for letting me have a go at this, uh, Mr. Dealer? That's your last name, right? Oh man. I'm really bad at remembering names, but have this as a token of my appreciation. (Gives him a thousand dollars which is basically worth even more at the time.)

Drug dealer: (Gobsmacked the guy was still able to keep walking after practically inhaling every drug in existence back then.)

Lucifer: So this, um, cult thing? How did it get assigned to our department again? It sounds just like what Heaven does to me. Huh. Ah well. I guess I'll just roll with it like everyone else here. (Shrugs.) Yay, cult! Sooo do I get to keep the robe? It's kinda comfy- Aw wait there's murder? One died a-and another... Oh... OH... Ooooh boy. Oof. Yikes... So this means I can DEFINITELY keep the robe, right?

Lucifer: Ah yes. Burning the witch. Time to list down all the sorry souls who threw their life into the flame by believing in the occult arts. (Lists down everyone in the crowd who burned said "witch.") And as for Ms. Agnes The Witch here... Hmm. Well, that's for Heaven to worry about! Toodles~! Or, uh, Tickety-Boo!

(Needless to say, dear Luci has been an accidental charmer back on Earth. ^v^ Specially to sinners and people who were just unjustly treated during those times. He just had to see what every sin was for himself and try them out from time to time, but he didn't know he's been perceived as acting with the manners and traditions he gathered from the LAST decade he was on Earth so to everyone who's long gone pass those times, he comes off as a polite old-school rich white man. Naive yet surprisingly non-judgemental.)

have you ever seen a firestarter become a firefighter?

This is Mr. Gray (but you can usually drop the 'mister' part) he's an ex-arsonist who finds himself in Vegas after leaving behind his life of crime, only now he's forced to become a protector!

His official job title is Angel's live in nanny (LOL) and only got stuck with it because her big shot casino owner father blackmailed him -> "You babysit my troublemaker daughter, or i'll cash in on your bounty.." Gray and his teenage charge tend to clash a lot. Why's he fighting with a child? take it up with him

Gray isn't his real name, it's an alias he's had his entire life but he wears a lot of dull grayed out colors, and his left eye has faded from the original black. Yes, he's a little bit supernatural too! he gets his first doctor's appointment of his 20-something years of life at some point in the story but we'll find out that he has no risk of lung cancer despite his constant chain smoking 🤔

#idk how to explain his personality. think #someone who's lost. but very on edge. even a bit haunted. easily confuses. gets frusterated a lot but never angry.#except in extreme circumstances 🤭#he gets to be silly and snarky occasionally. to confuse people. he does it in a chill #'i'm not gonna let you think i'm making fun of you except for a knowing grin'#he's a cool dude. whos been through it. i won't tell you what IT is yet tho #and he's. notably a pyromaniac. so there are some moments where he acts kinda... crazy. when there's a fight #ask #pyromania #ocs

KOTLC AND TOLKIEN'S LEGENDARIUM: READERSHIP OVERLAP

I've been feeling curious about how much overlap there is between the readership of these works, because I've seen several KOTLC people posting legendarium-related things recently (and I myself suspect that some elements of KOTLC were inspired by it, and thus find these elements interesting). So, if you could humour me and answer the question below:

Read the options CAREFULLY and vote whichever option FITS YOU BEST (I think I've covered most if not all). If you're confused about the options, the relevant information is below the poll. Also, I'd love it if you could tell me what you voted in the tags!

So without further ado:

REMINDER: If you have NOT read KOTLC (Keeper of the Lost Cities), then PLEASE do not vote.

The definition of READ here (for everything but HoME where a dedicated skim or half the book counts) is if you've read the text IN ITS ENTIRETY or closely enough that it may as well be so (leaving this one up to your judgement but as a rule, let's say about 80% to 90% and with skipping only non-essential bits (LOTR prologue and appendices, geography chapter etc -- again, these may seem essential to you, but these are the ones most people seem to skip/skim)).

The Great Tales refers to The Children of Húrin (2007), Beren and Lúthien (2017) and The Fall of Gondolin (2018). For the purposes of this poll it also includes The Fall of Númenor (2022)

HoME refers to The Histories of Middle-earth (1983-1996). For the purposes of this poll, it also includes Unfinished Tales of Númenor and Middle-earth (1980) and The Nature of Middle-earth (2021) and (though this one's iffy) The Letters of J. R. R. Tolkien (1981); if you've read Letters but not any of Silm/Great Tales/other HoME, just vote for the LOTR and/or Hobbit option.

#i've been thinking about the boys game a lot.#the event at the end of the movie that most of us first recognized as the cycle #(or at least most of whom i've interacted with after first finishing the film)#I'm gonna be honest this all started because i was making an edit #but that's neither here nor there.#Essentially i was confused about *the game*#and was wondering whether nigel won or lost before i realized i was looking at it all wrong #duh #Nigel was talking about the creation of the game that he would contribute to #not how it's played #which only became glaringly obvious to me after i'd sat there with my thoughts for almost a half hour #(give me a break i'm not stupid i've just had a rough few weeks)#Everybody played their part perfectly the schools order begins to fall apart #(alex headmaster's son leaves. nigel grandmaster's son dead alongside his parents. etc.)#the valiant hero forsakes the religious organization (McKenzie)#and everyone else takes their place unknowingly simply through existing.#Alex finds another boy and so it begins.#Finally out of death grief suffering and ruined sanity; the game starts but we don't ever see it.#start with a Jack and then fabricate the game #like minds #nigel colbie #alex forbes #murderous intent

Ohmy, I LOVE this question!!! 👀😍

Pure panic. He'd be stuck in the the in-between of unadulterated terror and crippling denial.

For a day or so, he'd try and nurse Josh back to health. Felix would be perched by Josh's bedside night and day. Tucking him in, holding his hand and whispering sweet nothings, begging him to wake up. Felix wouldn't sleep, wouldn't eat - he'd just watch Josh and try over and over to wake him.

Then desperation would set in. When he realises Josh isn't waking up and that this time, it's deadly serious. He'd call for backup - his goons friends. He'd be left with no option but the hospital, but how could he ever do that? He wouldn't be able to stay with Josh. Eyes would turn to Felix the second he carried Josh in, just skin and bones, littered with bruises and scars. And how could he ever think of abandoning the love of his life?

So, I think either Felix's hubris would get the best of him, and he'd refuse to get Josh medical help and would keep him...no matter what happens. Or maybe he would dump Josh at the hospital, possibly with the intention of snatching him back down the line 👀
