Something Good (Tom Hiddleston x Female Reader) Part 59
The big day is finally here!!!! The entire chapter is dedicated to Hollywood and Georgia's wedding day. I am so madly in love with this chapter and how it turned out! I have included an entire list of songs that I used as inspiration and mention throughout this part. Feel free to listen to them to better connect with their experience.
The next chapter is the final part to the main series. I have LOVED all the one shot ideas that have been flooding in the last few days. Keep them up! I have a Loki series written that I will begin posting next while still posting the one shots to Something Good.
This chapter came in at 13, 032 words so it is a LONG read! Get comfy with a glass of wine and a box of tissues! This is the fluffiest and happiest chapter of the entire series. I don't know how many times I cried, laughed, and sighed while writing this.
Enjoy! :)

“I thought this day would never come.”
Tom cursed under his breath as he frantically searched for the cufflinks he swore he had put in the pocket of the garment bag. Even though there were still a few hours before he needed to get dressed, he needed something to occupy mind.
“You and me both, Chris. Getting these two together was like herding cats. I’d get one of them on board and the other would bolt. Soph says that they cause me more gray hairs than three boys put together.”
Letting out a frustrated groan, he turned to face the two.
“How about we stop discussing my ongoing stupidity and actually help me get ready for the wedding you thought would never take place. Isn’t that your job as my bestmen?”
Ben rolled his eyes and took a sip of his drink before standing. Since Tom had been unable to chose between the two best friends, he made Ben and Hemsworth both his best man. Rounding out the three on his side of the wedding party was Evans. It seemed fitting that the three that played the biggest role in getting him here beside you would be beside him at the altar. Ben squeezed his shoulders as he pulled the cufflinks from the otherpocket on the bag in front of Tom. Refilling his glass for him, he handed it off to Tom before returning to his seat on the couch. Evans refilled his glass as well and sat down on the other couch beside Luke in the small room at the back of the church designed for the men to hang out.
“Try working with these two. It’s even worse. Although, she does tend to keep Thomas in line. There isn’t a salary high enough for that woman for the job she did. I had calls and emails flooding in through out the entire press tour trying to steal her away. If the photos wouldn’t end up in the tabloids, I would have loved to see them try to fight Hiddleston for her!”
“Cheers!”
The five of them all laughed and clinked their glasses together as they did a shot to calm Tom’s nerves. He still couldn’t believe this was happening. The last few days had just further showed him how much he needed you in his life. Sitting in the passenger seat of the Jag for once, he was furiously reading the script while you drove the two of you to the airport in Atlanta, only stopping to grab dinner to take with you onto the jet. Luckily you had been able to grab a few hours of the sleep on the flight while he continued to read. By the time you were settled in the hotel room, you had the file pulled up on your own tablet and the two of you were running lines and preparing for the audition until the early hours. Taking some time to get him “relaxed and unwound” as you called it the following morning, there was just enough time to grab a shower together and get ready before heading to the audition. Of course, he wasn’t as prepared as he felt he should have been, but the director seemed happy by the time he had left. He was still kicking himself for not opening the script last month when he first received it. It was his dream role and a once in a lifetime opportunity that he had almost lost due to this stubbornness and tunnel vision. That was one of the many reasons why he had you by his side.
“Well, mate. You actually did it. You’re the groom and not a guest. I started to think you didn’t have it in you for a while there.”
Rolling his eyes, Tom sipped on the drink in his hand and began his pacing from before. He was a bundle of energy on a normal day. His wedding day was a thousand times worse, even after an extra long run this morning.
“You and me both, Benedict. She certainly didn’t make it easy on me either, but that woman is worth every ounce of fight it took to make her mine. After all of this time, I still can’t believe that in a few short hours, my incredible Georgia Girl is going to be my wife.”
A knock on the door nearly startled him as he froze in place. Since Evans was the closest to the door, he answered it. Even though he couldn’t see her from his spot in the room, he recognized the voice immediately.
“I hope you boys aren’t getting into trouble in here with the whiskey.”
He saw Evans lean in for a hug.
“Not too much, Mama Cat.”
The nickname made him chuckle. Over the years, each member of the family had developed their own special relationship with both you and your mother. She adored all of them and had been over the moon the last few days having everyone together for the wedding. He knew she would be sad when they all left at the end of the weekend. The woman took her job as hostess very seriously and made sure everyone had plenty of amazing home cooked food. Between her and his own mother, he had never eaten so much in his life.
“Will you boys please give me a moment alone with my new son?”
They each lined up and kissed her cheek as they left the two of them alone in the church’s dressing room. She teared up as she held Tom’s face in her hands. His eyes quickly glistened with the sight of her tears and the emotions of the day.
“Come now, Catherine. None of that. You will get me going and we can’t have that.”
Regaining her composure, she sat down on one of the couches and patted the spot next to her. Once Tom was seated, she took his hands into hers.
“I have a few things I need to say to you, Thomas William. I’ll try my damnedest to not ruin my mascara. I knew from the first time I spoke to you on the phone that you were someone that would respect my little girl and keep her safe. The first time we met in person wasn’t the best circumstances, but when I saw the way you took care of Y/N after my heart attack, I knew you were someone truly special in her life and I prayed over the years that the two of you would find a way to be together. I know she hasn’t made things easy on you over the last few months while planning this wedding, but you took it with patience and grace. You’ve been my son for a long time now, today only makes it official. Because of that, I’m honored to be able to give you this today. That woman had me believing most days that I would never get the chance to do this.”
He watched as she turned and pulled two slightly worn cream-colored envelopes from the clutch beside her. With a shaky breath, she placed them in his hands. One simply said, “To My Son” and the other, “To My Little Girl.”
“When Jimmy’s cancer came back, he somehow knew he wouldn’t be able to fight it this time. It broke his heart to know her high school graduation was the last major event in her life he was going to see. Even without knowing who you would be, he knew there was still things he wanted you to hear. The week before he passed, he finished up these two letters and made me promise that I would guide our little girl to the man that was right for her. There is nobody more perfect for her than you, son. I’m going to give you some privacy to read it, then I know there is a very anxious bride that wants to see you before she gets ready. I’ve tried, but no one calms that girl like you do, Tommy.”
She kissed his cheek and quietly exited the room. Now alone in the silence, Tom picked up the envelope addressed to him and tried to steady his hands as he carefully opened it.
To My Future Son-in-law,
I truly wish I had the chance to meet you and get to know the man that has earned my daughter’s heart. From the day that beautiful girl came into this world, I knew I had my work cut out for me. The day you become a father is both the most magnificent and terrifying day of your life. When you look down at that miracle in your arms, everything changes. The things that you thought were important seem to fade away, leaving the child in your arms and the woman beside you.
With my wife’s guidance, I tried to set the best example of how she deserved to be treated by a man. I took the time to tell her how much I loved her and made it a point to show her worth to her every single day. I knew that my job in her life was to set the bar really high and show her what a real man looks like. I had always heard that a girl looks for a man that reminds her of her daddy and I never knew how true it was until she started dating. Her father is the first man to show her love and he should leave some big shoes to fill for the man she chooses as her husband. I wanted her to find a man that leads his family with dignity and honor. He should keep it tied tight when he ties that knot and treat her like the precious gift that she truly is every day.
If you have made it to this day, then I’m sure between my little girl and her mother, you have been put the paces and truly tested. Those woman are certainly strong and know exactly what they want and never settle for anything less. I’m sure you know by now that my little girl is a unique combination of sheer stubbornness and determination while remaining fragile and vulnerable. She puts up a tough exterior but wears her heart on her sleeve. Depending on how long you’ve been in her life, you will start to figure out how the pieces of her fit together. Much to her frustration, her expressions give her away every time. If you ever need to know what’s going on in that pretty little head of hers, pay attention to her music. It has always been the gateway to her soul. It certainly helped her mother and I through her teenage years. I know my death is going to break a part of her that might never heal and the pain from that is worse than anything my body is going through right now. Because of that, I’m not sure how much of me she is going to let you know. I’m sure Catherine will fill in what she can’t talk about.
Since the day we brought her home from the hospital, the front porch swing was the easiest way to sooth her. It must have been the swaying because I found that if I played music and danced with her, it had the same effect. Whenever she had a bad day, she and I would dance together in the kitchen and it never failed to put a smile on her face. The most important thing I learned about that girl was she always does things on her own terms. It’s best to make your presence known, but wait for her to come to you. Even if that means just sitting in the same room with her and staying silent. Eventually, she will reach out for comfort when she’s ready. I always found it funny the connection she had with our horses. She had the same spirit they did, even if she never saw it herself. That woman is easily spooked and needs the freedom to run. The spirit inside of her can’t be contained or tamed. She needs stability and safety to come home to but needs to have the space to be wild. I can’t imagine the storm she’s going to be without me there to calm her. I just pray that she finds a man that has the strength to withstand the thunder in her heart and the lighting in her words. On those days son, all I can say is just hold on tight to your love for her and push through. I don’t know how many times I’ve lost my patience and ended up hurting her. Lucky for me, her love is kind. If you need to take a moment for yourself to recenter, it’s okay. You have to take care of yourself before you can take care of her.
It breaks my heart that I won’t be around to see her become a mother and meet my grandbabies. Catherine was the best mother Y/N could have ever had. She is like her in so many ways that I have no doubt that your children will be as blessed as she was. I hope you had a father who loved and supported you and is still around to guide you when that first child comes along. Just in case, I am going to let you in on the big secret.
There is not a single man in the history of parenthood that actually knew what he was doing.
The bundle in your arms will be so tiny and small and the task of keeping them alive and raising them will be overwhelming. That is when you lean on the strength of your wife. Women somehow have this switch in their brains that just give them the answers. I’d say it has something to do with carrying the child, but I’ve seen women flip the same switch with a child that was adopted as well. The only thing you can do for the first few days is to breathe and do what she tells you to do. Your brain will not be capable of doing anything other than staring at her and the life you two created and panicking. No other logical lines of thought will take place for at least the first 72 hours. I was so overwhelmed that I forgot our home address when the nurse was filling out the forms to take Y/N home with us. While it’s all very scary, the instant that child opens their eyes and looks at you, a sense of protectiveness like you have never felt will come over you. You would take a bullet for them without a second thought. It’s truly inconceivable how much love you can have for someone you’ve just met moments ago. Your wife will have the chance to get to connect with them as they grow, but your chance will actually begin in the delivery room. Cherish this time because you will blink and they will be grown. The days will feel like years, but the years will feel like seconds.
There are so many things I wish I had the chance to share with you son. I wish I got to see the way you two look at each other. I wish I had the chance to drink a beer with you on the front porch. I wish all of this was being said to you in person. I wish more than anything that I was there today to see the love in your eyes as I walked her down the aisle to you and placed her hand into yours. Sadly, I don’t think I’m going to be that lucky. The doctors told me today that I may only have a few weeks left. Her mother and I have chosen to not tell her just yet until it’s time. Tomorrow, your bride is turning 19 and I plan to spend every single second of that day making sure she knows just how much I love her. If this is the last birthday I get with her, I’m going to make the most of it. Our days are never guaranteed, and our plans are simply wishes put out into the universe. Today is all that we have and it’s a gift. That is why is called the present.
Enjoy your wedding day and take the time to stop and take it all in. Make memories to cherish for a lifetime. Give my little girl a hug and a kiss for me and tell her how beautiful she looks. Study her smile and her laugh and ingrain it into your mind for the days you don’t get to see it. Dance with Catherine for me, son. We always talked about the day we got to dance at our daughter’s wedding, and I know this day will be hard for her, even if she doesn’t show it. Always remember that gorgeous woman in your arms is my little girl, so be careful when you hold her. I loved her first and I held her first. A place in my heart will always belong to her. From the very first breath that she breathed, I prayed that she would find you someday and that you would love her just as much as I do. I hope you are blessed with your own little girl and will know the battle in my heart. I hope you are enough for her until you hand her over to her husband. Even though you prepare her entire life for this day, it will still be difficult to give her away.
The second envelope in your hand is for her. I’m sure she is in too much pain right now to be able to see this day for how special it is in her life. The only thing she will see right now is my absence. I briefly thought about having her mother deliver the letter to her, but if you are the man that I believe you to be, it should come from you. She’s going to need you with her as she reads it. It’s going to be hard and the pain she will be in will try to break you. Take a moment to pull yourself together and be the rock that she needs you to be for her. Sit with her and stay silent. Let her reach out to you for support when she needs it. Wait until she speaks before you try to comfort her. If she says nothing, just hold her. When she’s ready, remind her that I am there with her and I never really left her. I’m in her heart and will be a part of everything she does. I am a part of her mother and a part of that ranch. My blood runs through her veins and my love is all around her. Tell her to watch for the glimpses of me in her memories and listen for me when the train comes through. I’m always there with her, she just has to let me in. Remind her that she found someone like me for a reason. When she needs to be calmed, she has you to take her hand and bring her peace. Remind her of these things today and every day for the rest of your lives.
I can’t wait to meet you someday, Son. Until then, take care of my girls for me.
All my love,
James
Tom was a sobbing mess, and he didn’t care who heard him. In this moment, he had the slightest glimpse into the man that helped shape you into the woman he loved. He had a better understanding of how you worked and his heart broke that the letter was the only conversation he would get to have with the man that was so very important to you. He wished he could go back to the day that your father wrote this letter to him and be there to support you through the next few weeks. Even though you refused to talk about it, he knew from Catherine that Jimmy had gone downhill shortly after your 19th birthday. Less than two weeks after this letter was written, he had passed away with you and your mother by his side in a hospital in Atlanta. The man had truly made the most of your day together and used every ounce of his strength to celebrate the day with you. The day after your birthday, he had collapsed at home and was admitted into hospice care. That was when you knew that you were out of time. Since you had never mentioned it, he was sure that you had no idea that these letters existed.
After taking a few more minutes to compose himself, he took a deep breath and carefully placed his letter back into the envelope and delicately placed it into the side pocket of his bag for safe keeping for now. Picking up your letter, he opened the door to the room and found Catherine and the boys standing there waiting for him. By the looks on their faces, she had told them what was taking place in the room and to give him space right now. After giving her a long and tight embrace, the men each took their turns hugging him and showing their support. She pointed to the end of the hall where he knew your dressing room was.
“I’ve already spoken to the girls and they are expecting you. Scarlett made sure her makeup wasn’t done just yet.”
“So she doesn’t know…”
He watched her shake her head, confirming his suspicions.
“No. She wants to see you, but no, she doesn’t know about the letter. Take your time, Thomas William. When she’s ready, we’ll come back and help her finish getting ready for her big day. Right now, she needs her daddy, and she needs you.”
With a nod, he closed his eyes and took one last look at the letter in his hands. The group watched as he turned and slowly made his way down the hall towards you. With a light knock, Tom nervously waited as Scarlett opened the door. He could hear you and his sisters laughing and his heart ached. As she glanced at the envelope in his hands, the look she gave him told him she knew exactly what it was.
“Alright ladies, someone needs a moment with the bride.”
Opening the door, he saw Sarah and Emma sitting on one couch with Sophie on the other. His mother was standing beside you at the vanity. Once his eyes settled on you, everything else faded away. He barely heard the ladies leave the room until his mother gave him a hug and whispered in his ear.
“Be strong for her, love. We’ll be outside when she’s ready.”
Even in your white silk robe that Scarlett had picked up for you, you loved amazing. Your hair was already styled and pinned up in curls just the way you knew he loved. The two of you stood there and stared at each other for a long moment before he finally got up the courage to speak again.
“Hi, Gorgeous.”
“Hello, Agent.”
Tom couldn’t help but laugh. Since the audition a few days ago, you had made various comments to him in private about the role. Of course, no one else could know just yet that he was even in talks for the role.
“We’ve talked about this, love. It was just an audition. There’s no guarantee that they will even offer me the part. I’ve lost count on the number of auditions I’ve done that didn’t pan out.”
You came up and wrapped your arms around his neck while smiling up at him. When his smile didn’t quite meet his eyes, you studied his expression a little more and finally noticed the envelope in his hands for the first time.
“What’s that?”
He watched as you stepped back and gave him a confused look. Taking a deep breath, he gestured over to the couch behind you. With a nervous expression, you turned and made you way over. As he followed you, he rubbed your back and placed a gentle kiss on your shoulder. Making sure to set the envelope face down so you didn’t recognize the handwriting on the front, he sat on the edge of the table across from you and took both of your hands into his.
“Darling, before I give this to you, just know that I am right here with you and will not leave your side. Your mother has instructed everyone to give us privacy for now until you are ready for them to come back in and help you finish getting ready. Take all the time you need.”
“Thomas, just tell me what’s in that envelope. You’re scaring me.”
His eyes darted down the item before looking back into yours.
“Sweetheart… it’s a letter from your dad. I have one from him as well.”
The emotions in your face flashed from confusion to shock to panic to grief all in milliseconds before you released his hands and picked up the envelope from the table beside him. As soon as you turned it over and saw the words written on the other side, you broke down and clutched it to your chest. Tom reached out and held your face in his hands as he placed a rough kiss against your forehead as his tears returned as well.
“I’m right here, baby.”
When you calmed down and got up the courage to look at it again, he moved to sit beside you on the couch and rubbed your back until you took a deep breath and opened the envelope. The pet name was enough to bring back the tears.
Hi Pumpkin,
I’m sure you have so many questions right now. While I don’t know what the future holds for me, I know that if you’re reading this, that means I didn’t win this time. I wish more than anything that I was there with you right now as you get ready for your big day. Since the day you were born, I imagined walking you down the aisle and dancing with you at your wedding. It’s starting to look like that’s not going to be in the cards for us, sweetie. You may be angry that I’ve waited until your wedding day to give this to you, but know that I knew you would need it most in this moment.
I’m writing this for you the night before your birthday. In the coming days, you’re going to learn that my time with you is coming to an end for now. Please don’t be upset with your mother and I for not telling you. I wanted to have one last special day with you as you turn 19 in the morning. I know if we told you about my visit with the doctors today, it would ruin the plans I have with you. Before I go, I just needed one more day with your smile and your laugh. I needed to pretend for one day that I wasn’t sick. You will never understand the pain and regret I feel right now knowing that I’m breaking your heart.
If I did my job right, then the man sitting beside you right now has found a way to help you heal. My hope for you is that you found someone who puts you above everything else and understands that you are a gift to be cherished and not owned. Your mother and I have had conversations about him since the day you were born. I made it my mission in life to teach you how to find him and recognize him by the example I set for you. When I got sick again, I made your mama promise that she would make sure that our son-in-law fit the requirements we wanted for you. She’s a smart woman, so if she loves him and finds him worthy of your hand, then I know that you are safe and loved.
I’ve already told him what I needed to say to him, but there are a few things that I need to remind you of before you make that walk without me today. I know that fire inside of you can get out of control and it can burn those closest to you sometimes. He knows this. He also knows how to help you reign it in if you let him. You chose him for a reason, so don’t shut him out when he’s trying to bring you peace. Let him hold you when you need to be held. Let him sooth you when life is too much. Let him calm you when that storm inside of you starts brewing. Dance with him in the kitchen. Swing with him on the front porch. Vent your frustrations to him and let him listen to you. Speak up and tell him what you need from him. You’ve always loved changing the rules in the middle of the game and it makes it hard to keep up with you. It isn’t his fault when he doesn’t understand. He can’t read your mind. You’ve got to tell him what’s troubling you, darlin. That’s the only way he can support you.
You know the person I raised you to be and you know how special you are. If you stayed true to the woman I know in this moment, then the man beside you right now needs you as much as you need him. He knows to wait for you to come to him. That doesn’t mean he isn’t struggling until you reach out for him. Make sure you take care of him too. Tell him everyday how much you love and appreciate him. Show him the respect he has earned and honor him just as much as he honors you. Marriage is a give and take. It requires both of you to make it work. Always remember that even during a fight, he isn’t the enemy, the conflict is. I know you can handle it yourself but let him lead you and your family. I pray that your mother and I set an example for you on what a healthy relationship looks like.
I’m sorry I won’t be there to watch you become a mother, darlin. I already know that when that day comes, you will be incredible. Let your mama help you, at least in the beginning when you are trying to get your bearings. It will change everything for the two of you and it will be overwhelming. Your husband is going to need your guidance. Try to be patient with him. It’s different for dads. I know it’s going to be hard for you baby, but tell them about me and how much I love them, even though I’m not there. I’ll still be there in spirit.
I know you’re struggling right now, Pumpkin. It’ll be alright. I may not be the one walking you down that aisle or giving you away, but I’m still be there with you. I’m with you every time you smile or laugh. I’m there beside you and your mama when you tend to the ranch. I’m in the sounds of the train each night, the creak of the swing, and the hum of the wind. I’m in those eyes you got from me and that dimple in your cheek when you smirk. I’m riding beside you when take the horses out for a run and keeping you safe when you go on your adventures. I’m in the patter of the rain on the tin roof. I’m always there for you Y/N, you just have to look for me.
I want you to enjoy your wedding day and let yourself be happy. I want you to dance with your mama and give her a huge hug for me. Remember that this day is hard on her too. I want you to take your husband’s hand and never let it go. Give yourself permission to live your life, baby girl. Don’t hold yourself back because I’m not here. There is not a single thing you could have done differently. I don’t know how much time I have left on this earth, but as I write this, your mama and I are planning a big day for your 19thbirthday tomorrow. I plan to leave this life without a single regret, and I need you to remember that. There’s no way for me to know when I’m called home, whether I got sick or not. That’s why it’s important to live every single day like it’s your last. Love hard. Live big. Go bed each night fulfilled and content with your choices. We’ll see each other again someday, sweetie. I just know it. I want you to have so many amazing stories to tell me on that day. I am so unbelievably proud of you and the woman you have become. I already miss you, baby girl. Stay strong for me.
All my love,
Daddy
As you finished reading, you turned and threw yourself into his arms as your screams echoed through the small room. Halfway through you had reached out and took his hand. He wrapped his arm around you, but it wasn’t enough. You were taken back to that hospital room and having to say goodbye to him all over again. It was as if you had him back for a moment to have him ripped away again. You were still angry and sad, but also had the comfort you were needing on this day. It was as if he got to be here somehow. Of course, it wasn’t the same, but it was something and for now, it was enough.
“I know, baby. I know. I’m right here. I’ll never let you go. You can let it all out.”
You didn’t know how long you cried, but when you ran out of tears, you sat in the silence together. Deciding to read the letter one more time, you leaned into him so Tom could read it with you. He continued to plant kisses on the side of your head as his thumb softly stroked your shoulder with his arms wrapped around you. Once you were done, you held the pages against your chest as if you could better absorb his love through the ink on the aged paper.
“I miss him so much, but I needed this.”
Tom pulled you closer to his chest and spoke softly to you as he smoothed your hair.
“He knew that, baby. Your daddy knew you would need him today and he gave you the most amazing gift. Both of us, actually.”
You turned and smiled up at him as you wiped away his tears. He gently kissed you before sighing.
“It just amazes me, Georgia. Without meeting me, it was like he still knew me in that letter. Like he was speaking directly to me and you and I were still years away from meeting each other. I knew he was an incredible man by the way you and your mother talk about him, but I feel like I got to have the conversation with him I’ve always wanted to have. It was as if we were just sitting together on the porch and having the talk about you, darling. It’s a gift I’ll always cherish. I got to know him and that’s all I’ve wanted.”
The two of you sat in silence for a little while longer before you heard a soft knock on the door. Looking at you first before speaking, you gave him a nod that you were ready.
“Come in.”
Your mother slowly opened the door and peeked into the room with tears in her eyes. At the sight of your smile, she came inside and met you in the middle of the room as you bolted from the couch towards her. Tom watched as the two of you held each other as the tears silently flowed. Your voice was quiet and unsteady as you whispered to her.
“Thank you, mama. Thank you both for everything. I love you so much.”
Knowing that it must be about that time, he stood and waited for the two of you to pull away from each other before placing his hand on the small of your back to get your attention.
“I believe that’s my cue, love.”
With one final hug, he kissed the top of your head before pulling away.
“Take your time and relax. Remember, I’ll wait forever for you, baby.”
With his hand on the knob, he turned and gave you one last look as if he was committing the image to memory.
“I can’t wait to see you walking down that aisle towards me, Georgia…”
“I’ll be the one in white, Hollywood... I love you.”
He simply smiled and stared at you before opening the door.
“I love you too, baby.”
With that sexy wink, he stepped into the hallway and closed the door behind him.
The next few hours seemed to fly by for you as the girls quickly returned and all ran around trying to make up for the time lost. Your hair was fixed before your makeup was applied. Sticking with a still natural look, you went a little more dramatic for the big day. Sadly, the time did not pass by as quickly for him.
“Thomas, they are going to have to replace the carpets in here by the time 6 o’clock comes. At least switch up the path a little, mate.”
He shot Ben a glare but continued to step towards the wall before turning on his heel and making the journey back towards the door. Glancing down at his watch, it had been three minutes since he last looked at it. He had already been dressed in his suit for nearly an hour, not being able to wait a second longer.
5:37.
23 minutes to go.
His mind flashed back to last night after the rehearsal dinner when the two of you exchanged wedding gifts with each other before he left for the hotel with the rest of the guys.
“I know you normally just check the time on your phone, but I didn’t want you to kill the battery on your cell checking the time religiously tomorrow. Plus, now you have a fancy one to wear to the James Bond premiere next year.”
He couldn’t help but laugh at the look on your face as you wiggled your eyebrows at him.
“Darling, you are putting the cart before the horse. We don’t even know if I got the part yet and you are already putting outfits together for the premiere?”
He pulled the Rolex from the box and noticed the engraving on the back.
To many more flights together
Love, Your Georgia Girl
Tom teared up as he wrapped his hand around the back of your neck and pulled you in for a kiss that stole the air from your lungs. When he finally pulled away to let you both take a breath, you looked up at him with a dazed expression.
“I love it, sweetheart. Thank you.”
“Wow… and that wasn’t even the fun gift…”
He narrowed his eyes as he smirked at you and tucked the hair behind your ear that had falling out of your ponytail.
“The fun gift? Baby, we agreed on one gift. Remember?”
You rolled your eyes before pulling a box out of your tote bag beside you.
“Says that man that is giving me a month-long secret honeymoon as his gift…”
“Fair point.”
The look on your face was mischievous as you watched him untie the ribbon that closed the flaps of the box in his lap. Carefully opening the top, he discovered a photo album inside.
“Another scrapbook, George?”
“Open it and see for yourself, Hiddleston…”
Just as he opened the cover, he immediately slammed it shut with embarrassment as he was met with a photograph of his extremely nude fiancé.
“LOVE!”
The laugh you let out was only amplified as you watched the man turn beat red.
“After all the scandalous things you’ve done with me, Hollywood, this is what turns you bashful?”
Tom swallowed hard before opening the book once more.
“I just wasn’t expecting it, that’s all.”
Glancing around to make sure the two of you were still in fact alone, he tilted the book towards him in case someone came outside and began to flip through the pages. The book was filled with photographs of you in various lingerie and some with a complete absence of the lacy items. Some of the outfits being a few of his favorites in the collection you had been building since getting together. You didn’t miss how he began to adjust his position on the seat beside you after a few of them.
“I did a boudoir photoshoot last month when you were away for work. I even added in a few elements I thought you might like…”
As he turned the next page, he bit his lip before looking up at you with a raised eyebrow. You were wearing a leather corset and stockings with elements of emerald green and gold thrown in. Although he loved the fact that the tattoo on your hip was on full display, the thing that really attracted his attention was the helmet you were wearing. The large gold horns were a perfect replica of the ones he wore for the films. The thought came as he looked over at you.
“It is isn’t it, baby? Do I even want to know how you got ahold of it? Who did you have to bribe to get the real thing?”
With a shrug of your shoulders and smug look on your face, you winked at him.
“I have my ways…”
The final pages of the book featured a lacy white set paired with your bridal veil and heels for the ceremony. He felt you lean close and press a kiss on his spot just below his ear. As his eyes scanned over the various poses and positions you were in, your voice was a whisper as he felt your breath on his skin.
“I’ll be wearing that under my dress tomorrow by the way…”
Sealing his lips in a tight line to suppress the moan in his throat, he closed the book in his lap and leaned his head back against the wall behind him and closed his eyes. He was certainly grateful to have the gift covering his lap at the moment.
“Are you sure you have to go with the girls? I’m sure the boys can handle themselves if we happen to get our own room for the evening.”
“You will get me all to yourself tomorrow night, Hollywood, and for the rest of our lives. By this time tomorrow, I’ll be Mrs. Hiddleston and you will have to peel me off of you.”
A knock on the door made him jump as he was transported back into the small dressing room at the back of the church. He smiled when his mother appeared in the doorway.
“It’s nearly time, love. Your bride is ready to get started.”
It suddenly felt extremely warm in the room as he glanced down at the gift on his wrist.
5:52
As the men filed out of the room, Luke went to take his seat with the rest of the guests. Noticing the panic on his face, Chris stepped in and straightened Tom’s suit and bowtie. The tight squeeze on his shoulders made him give his best friend a slight smile causing him to chuckle.
“I had the same look on my face when I married Elsa. It’s alright to be scared, mate. Every groom goes through the same emotions you did. It’s the first hill of a rollercoaster.”
He gave him a confused look before looking over at Ben who started laughing as well.
“Ah, the rollercoaster. Such a perfect description for this moment.”
“I beg your pardon?”
Chris looked at him once again.
“The excitement leading up to the wedding is like waiting in line. Getting dressed is getting on the ride. This moment right here, mate? This is slowly going up the incline and freaking out because the big drop is coming. You aren’t regretting the decision to get on the ride, just questioning your judgement slightly.”
Ben stepped in and rested a hand on his shoulder.
“The moment those doors open, and you see her face… that’s the big drop, Thomas. It’s exhilarating and freeing. The rest of your lives together will be a series of twists and turns and you might feel sick at times, but the ride is so worth it… You just got to get up the hill first. That’s all.”
He let out a slight chuckle as he shook his head. It was crazy but made perfect sense somehow. Evans spoke up from the back of the line.
“I hope you two saved some for the toasts later.”
They all laughed and turned to face him. Hemsworth playfully punched him in the shoulder.
“Don’t worry, mate. We’ll tell you the same thing when your turn comes. If you aren’t a drunken mess.”
“Remind me to elope.”
Ben rolled his eyes.
“You’ll want to, believe me!”
Diana made her way back over to him and held his face in her hands as she stared up at him.
“You ready, Thomas?”
He took a deep breath as he heard the music begin to softly play in the chapel behind him.
“So very ready, Mum. Shall we?”
She laced her arm through his as the doors opened, and he led her down the aisle. Just as he approached her seat on the front row, she leaned up and kissed his cheek.
“I’m so proud of you son.”
Scarlett, Sarah, and Emma took their places beside Hemsworth, Benedict, and Evans and headed towards the front of the chapel towards Tom when their cues came during the song. Just before the music led into the final chorus, the doors closed once more. Emerging from the dressing room with your mother, you tried to calm your nerves and took a deep breath. Having been given the same exact speech, you kept repeating the same words to yourself.
“It’s just like a rollercoaster. You love rollercoasters…”
You had listened to the song so many times over the last few months after deciding together that it would be the song you walked down the aisle to. With some help, you had figured out exactly when everyone should walk out and timed it all to the second. During rehearsal last night, you took Scarlett’s place beside Hemsworth and she took your place beside your mom. It was a southern tradition that the bride didn’t practice her walk down before the big day. A superstition or something. You just thought it was a control thing for Bridezillas but you didn’t question it. You were too busy staring at Tom to care. Luckily you had paid attention enough to know that the lines being sung right now meant it was your turn.
Tom watched the minister signaled for the guests to stand. His nightmare from the night you left flashed through his thoughts as he watched everyone stand and look towards the doors at the back. Unlike in the dream that night, he wasn’t standing with them. He was at the altar this time, waiting for you to join him. He was finally the groom at your wedding…
As the doors opened once more, his jaw dropped, and a small gasp spilled out. Standing at the end of the aisle, was the woman he loved in the most gorgeous gown he had ever seen. It was just so perfectly… you. While it was fitted at the top, it flowed out just passed your hips to a long detailed train that was spread out behind you. The lace pattern that covered the entire dress felt timeless and traditional. The sheer lace came up over your shoulders to form straps that appeared to connect behind your back. It was enough to remain modest while still extremely sexy. Even though your veil was down, he could still see your smile and the tears that were in your eyes. His nerves vanished as he locked eyes with you.
“I’ve got you sweetheart. Time to move your feet.”
Keeping time with her, you began the journey towards him. The faces beside you were a blur as you passed them. The only thing you could focus on was Tom. The feeling was just as Sophie and Sarah had described. The big drop. You were flying and had never felt more alive than in this very moment. Before you knew it, you were standing directly in front of him and could see the tears in his eyes as he looked at you with complete love and adoration. The minister’s voice reminded you that there were in fact other people in the room with the two of you.
“Who gives this bride to be married?”
“Her father and I…”
Your head whipped over to look at your mom as your lip began to quiver. That wasn’t what she had said during rehearsals last night and you weren’t prepared for it. As she took your hand and placed it into Tom’s, she kissed you on the cheek before giving you both a hug.
“I’m so proud of you two. I love you both.”
He kissed her on the cheek before taking both of your hands into his and locking his eyes with yours once more as your mother left to take her seat.
“You are breathtaking, my love.”
You tucked your bottom lip between your teeth and tried to keep it together.
“You don’t look too bad yourself, Hollywood.”
The minister began to recite his speech but you didn’t hear any of it.
“I believe the couple has prepared their own vows. The bride will recite hers first.”
When you didn’t respond, Tom squeezed your hands to signal that it was your turn.
“Oh… right. That part.”
You turned around and grabbed the paper from Scarlett and faced him once again. With a deep breath, you tried to keep your voice steady and tried to say the words just like you had practiced.
“Thomas William. My Hollywood Bigshot. My best friend. My other half. My boyfriend, fiancé, and soon… my husband. Even my boss at one point. I’ve called you many things over the years, some of them not so nice even. My favorite has been to call you mine. On that summer day nearly ten years ago now, I thought I was just taking an impulsive trip to London at the last minute. I had no idea when I bought that ticket at the airport, that I would be seated next to the person that would change my life. I definitelydidn’t know said person would be my celebrity crush either. I’m glad I was able to keep my fangirl under control because it gave me the chance to get to know the real you. By the end of that red-eye flight, you were just Tom. A perfect gentleman from London who took the time to make sure I was safe while traveling alone. The week we spent together getting to know each other was some of the best days of my life. I know we had some bumps along the way and surely have had numerous bets placed by our friends and family on if and when we would finally wake up and see what was right in front of us all along. It certainly hasn’t been an easy journey to get here, but I wouldn’t have traded any of it to be able to stand here with you today. You have always seen me for who I really am and know me better than I know myself most days. When I was looking up wedding vows, none of them seemed to fit us. I couldn’t find any that felt strong enough to me, so these are the promises I am making to you today. I promise to support you in your dreams and build you back up when things don’t go right. I vow to be your biggest fan and your strongest ally. I will follow where you lead and trust that your heart only wants the best for our family. When you get caught up in the outside world, I promise to remind you of the man that you are inside with lazy days in pajamas, take out on the floor at the coffee table, and dancing in the living room. I promise to be open and upfront when I’m troubled and truthful and honest when it matters most. I vow to let you be my anchor in the storm, the arms I turn to for comfort, and allow you to bring me peace without shutting you out. Today and every day for the rest of our lives together, I will be your partner in crime, your sounding board, and above all, your best friend.”
Sniffles were heard around the room, causing you and Tom to both laugh and wipe the tears from your cheeks.
“You told me I was the eloquent one, George. Maybe I should have gone first.”
The minister smiled at Tom and nodded to give him the go ahead to say his vows. Ben handed the paper off to Tom and gave you a wink.
“Wow…alright…My darling Georgia Girl. I sat down to write these vows many times over the last few months and each time, the words never seemed to properly convey my love for you. I know it has been a long and difficult journey to get to where we are today, but I think a part of me knew from the very moment I saw you, that you would be my wife someday. From our very first conversation, I felt like I had known you for a lifetime already. For the first time in years, I was able to be myself again. Since that day, you have been my breath of fresh air and the only thing that can take the weight off my shoulders. You keep me grounded to what truly matters in this life and I don’t know how I survived before you came into my life. Your path crossed with mine at the exact moment you were destined to, my love. You are the first thing I think about when I wake up, and the last person I want to see before I close my eyes each night. By the end of our week together so many years ago, I knew I was madly in love with you. I may have done a poor job of expressing my true feelings to you for much longer than I should have, but I feel so blessed to have had you as my best friend this entire time. My entire career would mean nothing without you by my side. You are my rock when I struggle, my biggest supporter when I succeed, and the first person I want to tell when anything happens, whether it is good or bad. I may never be able to truly express how much you mean to me, darling, but I plan to spend eternity trying to do just that. Today and all of our days together, I vow to put you and our family first above all else. I vow to honor and respect you through it all, whether sunny days or stormy skies. I promise to make you laugh just to see you smile and hold you when you’re sad. I will support you through all things and protect you from as much pain and hurt that is within my control. I vow to listen more than I speak, guide you when you ask for direction, and try to keep an open mind. I will challenge you and help you grow, while allowing you to do the same for me. Above all these things, I give you my word that I will love and cherish you until I take my final breath. I choose you and only you for all of my days.”
As Tom refolded the paper and slipped it into his suit, you tried to pull yourself together. At this point, you were both feeding off each other’s tears and it was only getting worse as the ceremony went on.
“The groom’s ring please?”
You turned to Scarlett to grab the band from her as he minister continued.
“Y/N, as you slip the ring on Tom’s finger, do you take Tom to be your husband in good times and in bad, in sickness and in health, for as long as you both shall live?”
Once the ring was settled on his left hand, you looked into his eyes and tried to steady your voice.
“I do.”
After retrieving your band from Chris, he once again took your hand into his.
“and you Tom, do you take Y/N to be your wife in good times and in bad, in sickness and in health, for as long as you both shall live?”
You could feel his hands shaking as he added the matching wedding band to your engagement ring. His voice was quiet as he fought the flood of emotions.
“I do.”
Knowing what was coming next, both of you seemed to get antsy with anticipation.
“By the power vested in me by the state of Georgia, I now pronounce you husband and wife. Thomas, you may kiss your bride.”
Trying to not look too eager, he carefully raised your veil and fixed it before cradling your face in his hands. With a smile he leaned in and softly pressed his lips to yours. Just like your first kiss together in the hotel suite in London, you surprised him by taking the lead and deepening the kiss as you wrapped your arms around his neck. Not to be outdone by you, he made the moment even more dramatic when he turned and dipped you just as he had done at the movie premiere after announcing the engagement. The two of you broke the kiss and let out a deep laugh as Ben loudly cleared his throat and slightly elbowed Tom in the side.
The song began to play once again as the two of you made your way back up the aisle with you tucked into Tom’s side. As soon as he passed through the doorway from the chapel and back into the hall, he practically dragged you into your dressing room, quickly closing the door after pulling the train of your gown inside. You didn’t have time to ask what he was doing before he had you pinned against the wall to kiss you once more. The moan you let out only caused him to press tighter against you as his tongue found yours. He only pulled away when you both desperately needed air. His pupils were blown wide when you looked up at him and his voice was low and sultry as he stared down at you.
“Baby, you and I both know that was not the kiss we agreed upon.”
You played innocent as you bit your lip, knowing it drove him wild.
“Oops. I guess I forgot…”
His hand wrapped around the back of your neck as he pulled you in for another.
“Hmm Mmm… that’s the story you’re going with, darling?”
All you did was nod as you smiled up at him and closed the distance. After a few minutes, there was a knock on the door as it opened without waiting. Scarlett eyed you both from your position against the wall with a raised eyebrow.
“Save it for the honeymoon. Wedding photos. Let’s go lovebirds.”
The two of you looked like a couple of teenagers who got caught as you returned to the hallway. The entire wedding party was standing there staring at you as your mothers both gave you the same look, causing you to blush. There wasn’t a single wedding guest left in the church.
“Entirely Georgia’s fault-“
He let out a groan as you smacked his chest with the back of your hand causing the group to laugh.
“It my honor to introduce for the very first time, Mr. and Mrs. Thomas William Hiddleston!”
The guests had already been seated for dinner when the two of you arrived from taking your wedding photos. JB had been gracious enough to not only close the dance hall for the night to host the reception, but also catered the wedding as well. Sparing no expense, Tom insisted on providing an open bar and replenishing all of the stock JB put towards the wedding, as well as generouslypaying all the staff for the evening. That included those scheduled to work the wedding and those that would be missing out on their Saturday night tips due to the place being closed. After seeing what you went through as a bartender, he had a much better understanding on the struggles they faced.
Your mother stood beside Diana and the wedding party as you and Tom made your way out onto the dance floor for your first dance together. As she nervously peeled the label on her beer, Diana looked over at her.
“Spill it, love. Why do you look like something is about to go terribly wrong?”
Just as the slow song started to play, Catherine let out the breath she was holding and let out a quiet laugh.
“When that girl was maybe 11 or 12, she decided after dancing with her daddy one night that she knew what her first dance song was going to be at her wedding.”
“What was it?”
“… The Devil Went Down to Georgia”
Diana’s eyes widen as she looked back at her son and daughter-in-law slowly swaying together on the dance floor.
“Oh dear!”
They both laughed as they watched the two of you. Catherine teared up watching you before taking a sip of the beer in her hand.
“Jimmy thought it was funny and the two of them practically tormented me with it the entire time she was a teenager. It become a joke in our family anytime the song played. It’s times like this that I really miss him, Di.”
She took her hand and squeezed it as they smiled at the two of you.
“Can you believe we finally got those two together? To think, all it took was a fake trip to Branson to get them together at your house for Christmas.”
Diana smiled at her and shook her head.
“I thought Thomas was crazy for hiring that girl as his assistant to spend time with her, but you were right Cat. It ended up being the perfect way for the two of them to grow closer without the pressure to scare each other away. By the time they showed up on my doorstep, they were both madly in love at the same time for once. I could tell on Christmas morning that things had finally changed. Can you believe they thought they could sneak around myhouse together and not have me notice? You should have seen them, love! Like a couple of teenagers necking any chance they had! No dog needs that many potty breaks outside!”
You both looked over as your mothers let out a loud laugh across the room. Tom smiled at them before looking back at you.
“Do you think Catherine suspects it, my love?”
The mischievous glint in your eye caused him to swell with pride as both of you listened intently for the cue at the end of the second chorus.
“Not a chance. I bet she thinks I forgot. I can’t waitto see the look on her face. I found a cover with a different intro than the original. When she figures it out, it’s going to be amazing!”
As the line approached, he winked at you and got ready.
“Let’s give them a show, Mrs. Hiddleston…”
When the song abruptly cut out, both women immediately returned their attention to their children on the dance floor. The two of you looked around in confusion along with everyone else until you locked eyes with your mom. Once you had her attention, you slowly smiled and gave her a wink, watching as the lightbulb went off in her head. Diana heard the gasp and looked at the woman beside her.
“What? What is it?”
Catherine picked up the two shot glasses on the table and handed one to her.
“Di, you’re going to need this, hun.”
Right on cue, the second song began. The iconic intro wasn’t there, but the lyrics were enough to make her pinch the bridge of her nose. As the music kicked in, an audible gasp was heard as Tom spun you out around from him, pulling the bottom of your gown off as you went. The dress was now transformed into a shorter version that hit you midthigh with a matching pair of shorts underneath for modesty. It also revealed that you had switched from your heels to your cowboy boots. For the first time, she noticed that Tom was still in his white dress shirt with the sleeves rolled up to his elbows, but his dress pants were traded in for a pair of blue jeans and cowboy boots as well.
“Those two will be the death of me, Catherine…”
They did the shot together.
“Well, she’s his problem now, Diana. No refunds unfortunately.”
As you and Tom began a fast-paced country swing, your guests all began to scream and cheer while Tom’s simply stared in shock. The entire wedding party was speechless considering they had never seen the two of you dance together at JB’s. The entire routine consisted of lots of advanced flips, spins, and lifts that the two of you had practiced for months now. You had the entire dance floor to yourselves and you planned to take full advantage of it. Tom spun you around every inch of it, smiling at you the entire time. As the song wrapped, he dropped you into a low dip and passionately kissed you. The entire dance hall erupted, including the guests that had started out unsure of it.
The two of you left the floor completely out of breath and joined the wedding party at the table. None of them said a word and just stared for a moment. Ben finally broke the silence with his usual humor.
“Showoffs…”
The laughter began to spread around the table as the shock began to wear off. When you made eye contact with your mom again, she had tears in them and pulled you in for a hug and whispered in your ear.
“Your daddy would be proud sweetheart.”
“Thank you, Mama.”
After you and Tom enjoyed dinner and cut the cake, you made your way around the room to thank as many people for coming as possible. He had many that he wanted to introduce you to, and the same for you. There was one person in particular.
“Cassie!”
The girl ran up to you and gave you a huge hug.
“Y/N! That dance was incredible!”
When Tom placed his hand on your waist, you turned to introduce the two.
“Cass, this is my husband, Tom, but you know him as Loki.”
He chuckled as you winked at her.
“Babe, this is Cassie, the owner of the matching tattoo…”
His eyes widened as the girl blushed. With a grin, he turned on the Mischief charm. You laughed as he spoke in the God’s thick accent.
“I do believe there is someone you would like to meet, is there not, darling?”
She looked back at you as if to ask if he was serious. With a wink, Tom turned to find him across the room. Signaling for him to come over, the woman looked panicked.
“Hey mate, there is something I want you to meet. This lovely woman is Cassie, one of Georgia’s good friends. She also happens to be a huge fan of yours brother.”
With that award winning smile, he took Cassie’s hand and kissed it.
“Pleasure to meet you, Cassie. Any friend of Georgia’s is a friend of mine.”
She was silent as she stared at him. You glanced over at Elsa who was watching the interaction. She rolled her eyes at the men and laughed as she shook her head at you and rejoined her conversation. Putting her out of her misery, you pulled Cassie into you and whispered in her ear.
“I’ll get an autograph for you and leave it with mom.”
You pulled away and looked at Chris and Tom. They were loving this.
“Up for a group photo boys? I’m sure Cass has her phone with her.”
After getting a picture of the four of you together, you promised to catch up with her soon for lunch next time you were in town. The rest of the reception was spent on the dance floor. While you were dancing with Ben, you noticed Tom speaking with the DJ. As the next song began to play, you immediately recognized it.
It was your parent’s favorite song.
The familiar melody brought back so many memories as Catherine got misty eyed for the millionth time today. A hand appeared in front of her as she sat at one of the tables with Diana.
“Darling?”
Tom smiled down at her as he waited for her to take his hand.
“I believe I owe you a dance.”
With the switch in the songs, Ben felt someone tap his shoulder and turned to find Luke standing there.
“Mind if I cut in mate? I’d like a word with the bride.”
Ben kissed your cheek before dragging Sophie out on the dance floor with him. You and Luke watched your mom and Tom across the dance floor, and you tried to contain your emotions.
“She looks happy, doesn’t she?”
“She certainly does, George.”
“Daddy asked Tom in his letter to make sure that she dances at our wedding. He is the only man she has danced with since Daddy. No matter who else asks her, Thomas is the only one… how did I get so damn lucky, Luke?”
He smiled at you and wiped the tear from your cheek.
“He’s the lucky one, Georgia. I’ve never seen Tom happier than when he’s with you, darling. I can’t tell you how glad I am that it worked out for you two. I know how tough it was for you both when you were apart. You certainly had a lot of us cheering you on though.”
Unable to speak, you just smiled at him and hugged him as he swayed you on the dance floor. The time as Tom’s assistant didn’t just help you fall in love with your best friend again, it also gave you another friend that you cherished. While the entire ordeal was the most pain you have ever felt, it brought the two of you closer together as you both watched Tom become a person neither of you recognized. When things with Jamie were the worst, you still had Luke to turn to for support. He had become another brother to you. The phone calls with the rest of the Marvel family helped, but most were so far away. Ben, Sophie, and Luke had pulled you through until you found your way back to Tom. As you looked around the room, you were overcome with emotion as you saw how much love there was around you. You had been so focused the last few months on the one person who wasn’t here and missed sight on all of those that were.
Ben and Sophie were jokingly pushing Chris and Elsa as they danced beside them. Robert and Susan made their way over to join the fun as well. Your mother was softly crying as she laughed and danced with Tom, who of course had tears of his own. Diana, Emma, and Sarah were sitting at a table with Scarlett, Sebastian, and Mackie. Of course, Anthony had them all laughing hysterically. Other celebrity friends of Tom’s were mingling with friends of yours. It was so strange to see your two worlds meshed together, but it was nice to see them all getting along together. The one thing you really noticed was the way that Natalie and Evans were alone at a table together talking like they had for the last long while. You got Tom’s attention and pointed at them. Glancing around your mom to see them, he rolled his eyes and gave you a look that said, “Stop playing match maker at our wedding.”
The wink after made you smile. He stared at you for another moment until you mouthed the words “I love you” to him. His eyes were so full of love as he mouthed back “I love you too.”
“There actually was a reason I cut in for a dance with you, George.”
You looked back at him with a confused look until he smiled.
“I just got the call… our boy did it… he got the contract, love. Tom is taking over the franchise from Daniel.”
The song faded out as you froze in place. He let you process the news for a minute as you blankly stared at him until a smile formed on your lips.
“Wow… he did it.”
A gentle kiss was placed on your shoulder as an arm wrapped around your waist from behind.
“Already trying to steal my wife from me, Windsor? Shame on you.”
He smiled at you before looking behind you to Tom.
“Just giving her a wedding gift, mate.”
“Oh?”
Taking your cue, you turned and looked up at him with tears streaming down your face. If you hadn’t had the biggest smile on your face, Tom would have been worried.
“The greatest wedding gift of all, babe. Apparently, my husband is the new James Bond…”
The smile left Tom’s face as his eyes darted back and forth between you and Luke for any sign that you were joking. When he knew that you were being serious, he swallowed hard and tried to wet his lips that had suddenly gone very dry.
“They picked me?”
Your husband was the most humble person you had ever met. No matter how hard the tried, it was never enough in his own eyes. Even after all of these years, it was still impossible for him to believe that he was a magnificent actor and an even better person. No matter how often he was told by you and everyone else, it was something that he could never imagine to be true. He would never admit that it had always been his dream role. Even though you tried to talk to him about it often, he would never talk about it for fear of jinxing it. Plus, he would never allow himself to entertain the fact that he was worthy of such recognition. The feel of your hand against his cheek brought him back around again.
“My husband’s a secret agent now. Does that make me a Bond girl?”
It was enough to get him to let out that signature laugh that melted your heart.
“The only Bond girl, my love.”
It was late into the night when the reception began to wind down and you and Tom decided to make your exit. After saying your goodbyes to everyone and a tearful goodbye with your mom, everyone made their way outside to see you off. The tunnel of sparklers was magical as you ran behind your husband with his hand tightly wrapped around yours. You weren’t surprised to see that the boys had slipped out at some point to decorate the Jaguar, carefully of course.
Once the two of you were pulling onto the highway and heading towards the airport to board the jet, you looked over at the man beside you. You couldn’t help but tear up again. Feeling your eyes on him, he glanced over and smiled at you.
“Everything alright, darling?”
You squeezed his hand even tighter before lacing your fingers through his.
“Just happy.”
A short while later, the two of you collapsed down on your couches across from each other as the crew loaded your bags and prepared for takeoff.
“Hey, Hollywood?”
“Yes, Georgia?”
He looked over in time to see you dive off your couch and land on top of him with a giggle. With a grunt, he wrapped his arms around you as he sat up and positioned you over his lap.
“We’re on the plane, so… can you tell me where we’re going now? Pretty please!”
Tom let out a deep laugh as all of the trips together flooded his memories. Staring up at you, he felt like he was dreaming. Your appearance had changed slightly in the last ten years as you got a little older, but you were still the girl he met on a red-eye flight to London. The only woman he had ever truly loved. His best friend. His adventure-seeking travel companion. His everything. His Georgia Girl.
“Some things never change, George.”
You wrapped your arms around his neck and stared at him with so much love in your eyes. There was no panic, anxiety, or pain them. Only joy.
“I don’t know about that, Hiddleston. I can name a few things that did change. My last name being one of them…”
As he reached up to tuck the hair behind your ear, the wedding band on his hand caught his eye and he smiled before pulling you in for a kiss. His words were a whisper against your lips in between slow and deep kisses that made your head spin.
“It certainly did, Darling…”

Ok so I have been in the interest area for some time
And I may have gotten interested in several Draculas
Here is a list of who I have on team:
5. Bram Stoker's Dracula
Tumblr media Tumblr media
I mean come on, Gary Oldman in late Victorian era suits is just extremely handsome. The warrior that became a vampire: seductive, cruel, very nice when in love.
They were quite very bold when they named the movie "Bram Stoker's Dracula" to be honest - like, yes, it is very evident that they followed the author, but decided to add a more romantic plot with some Victorian sensuality. My personal opinion - they tried too hard: they wanted to fit their own storyline of Mina x Dracula love to the original Stoker story, while keeping up at least in the beginning to the author's stile of reading diaries and switching POVs in 2 hours of screentime - it did not go as smoothly as one might have wished, the time is obviously not enough, the story and character relationships are a bit rushed. Besides some characters were well... Lucy's lovers are a bit dumb - far worse than they were in the book and Lucy - ok I get it, you wanted to add eroticism, but not like that!!
In general not so bad. I like it, feels like a nice interpretation.
4. Netflix Dracula
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Well, the storyline began as if it could have been Bram Stoker's, but proved to be very different from the original quite quickly. Another nice interpretation. Van Helsing is a female and a nun - that's quite an interesting change. (Seriously, I love the character, she's a big mood.)The modern versions of characters in 3rd episode seemed kinda cool too
Absolutely loved the idea of Dracula absorbing the memories and knowledge with blood, it's really cool. ( Can I please be a vampire too? I really need that for my studies!)
Claes Bang portrayal of the vampire seemed very impressive. Loved it - didn't expect to but loved it - it was the first Dracula movie I watched and it left me under a spell.
Plus the human-eating irony - Hannibal Lecter would have shook Dracula's hand for that, those two have a common sense of humour and aesthetic.
As with the previous one, I enjoyed the interpretation quite a lot.
3. Van Helsing
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Well, in that one.
The story has almost nothing to do with the book, doesn't even try to, but the plot they made is exciting - the ancients old enemies concept and all that stuff. The gothic Transylvania/Budapest/Paris/wherever else they were depiction is lovely - it gives the viewer this sense of darkly beautiful atmosphere of vampire stories; soundtrack adds to the picture nicely.
Characters, well... Anna is cool if you look at her in terms of personal - keep up the family values and stuff. BUT a young lady wearing tight trousers in 19th century, are you kidding me??? I'm sorry, but that weirded me out a bit. Same with that moment when "oh I fell five meters and before that soaked under rain, look at my perfectly soft curls" - the female characters in that movie are a bit overly fancy for the time and the action genre - same with Dracula's brides, they're kind of cute, love their babies and Dracula, but why on Earth are they always half-naked?
Van Helsing has a bit of a younger and sadder Mad-Eye Moody vibe. "I kill monsters, although I do pity the humans that sit inside of them. These things need to die" - that kind of person. Hugh Jackman plays him nicely, I felt him very fit for the role - he and Dracula are basically what really saves the film and makes it interesting.
Dracula here is just.. I mean aw. He's hot. He's got a nice accent, he turns into some flying half bat thing that looks hella cool, and he removes his cape in such an extremely graceful gesture that it makes one faint. Love that guy.
(+ the ballroom dance scene was very sensual and gothic, it was one of the reasons I started watching the movie)
2. Dracula Untold
Tumblr media
The story of medieval Dracula and how he came to be a vampire - to protect his people and his family. Politics, love, monsters and broken dates. That movie has a great plot and some points which make you stop and wonder (oh do I love the quotes of those "sometimes the world doesn't need another hero, sometimes what it needs is a monster" and of that sort, just beautiful)
It is kind of tragic, but it has a bright side to it, I am extremely grateful to the authors for what they did to the ending.
And Dracula himself well... Luke Evans is just gorgeous in the role. The ultimate strong warrior vampire - a monster to his enemies and a loving husband and father to his family. Dracula redeemed. This one is sweet.
1. Castlevania
Tumblr media
Aaaand here we go on my favourite one. If you don't mind watching anime and you love vampires/gothic stuff - you're probably gonna enjoy this. I did. I loved it: the plot, the characters, their relationship, the whole concept of the vampire community and Dracula the vampire King, their motivations. It's catching, it's mesmerizing, it charmed and drew me in (read: I cried and wailed together with my friend, this left me a trauma, I had to write a big fanfic to make up for the pain).
Main characters - Adrian, Sypha and Tevor are a bit Ron, Harry and Hermione but they are a lovely trio, I love the tension between Trevor and Adrian. Very loveable characters, and I dare say quite well written.
And, well, Dracula. Excuse me, this one is my personal favourite. I mean - a beautiful castle, that is moved by some cool mechanisms to wherever Dracula pleases, an enormous library with all the forgotten knowledge of the world. Dracula himself is extremely well-educated, well-mannered, THE gentleman (and yeah well 8ft tall but let's skip that bit). I love that character he is in so much pain I want to hug him and cuddle him into warm blankets. He is a sweetheart.
Tumblr media
So that was a short attempt of a person who is terrible at criticizing stuff to write some film reviews. In case anyone is interested. And for me to reassemble my journey into the vampire world.

Emergency Contact
synopsis: Sometimes it takes an accident and the revelation that Buck is Luke's emergency contact to really bring the Buckley-Mercer (et al) Family to the same page.
fandoms: Julie and the Phantoms x 911
relationships/characters: Buckley!reader (gender neutral), Alex Mercer, Evan Buckley, Luke Patterson, Athena Grant, Maddie Buckley (all relationships are familial/platonic)
word count: 2503
warnings: mentions of minor injuries (and I mean minor, sprained ankle, minor concussion is all)
a/n: @biqherosix surprise! Catch me pushing the Buckley-Mercer family agenda cause I can. For anyone wondering, we're running with the idea that they're cousins. I honestly have no idea where this came from, I wrote it at like midnight yesterday. And it only figures that the first thing I post in forever is a crossover that is mostly self-indulgent but I promise I'm trying to get the hang of things again.
For those of y'all that haven't seen 911 but still wanna read: one, I appreciate you so much oh my gosh, two, I highly recommend it and three, all you really need to know for this one is that Buck is a firefighter with the 118, Athena Grant is a police officer, and Maddie is Buck's older sister and a 911 dispatcher. If I missed anything and you wanna know feel more than free to ask!
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
The absolute last thing you expected was your phone ringing well past midnight.
“Don’t answer it.”
Alex’s voice sounded from beside you, muffled by the pile of blankets he was buried under. You rolled your eyes and reached for your phone only to have him snatch it out of your grip and stuff it under the blankets alongside him.
“Give it back!”
“No,” Alex crossed his arms tighter, ignoring the second ring completely. “It’s probably Buck checking to see if we’ve gone to sleep yet, if you answer he’ll know we’re still up.”
“Like Buck would voluntarily be up right now. He’s fifteen hours into a twenty four hour shift,” You leaned back against the couch, knowing there was no tearing the phone away from Alex. “Will you at least check who it is to make sure it’s not Maddie?”
Alex groaned, loud and exaggerated, before sticking his head underneath his blankets to check your phone. You were just barely able to hear his panicked ‘uh oh’ before he put on his best fake tired voice and answered, “Hello?”
“Alexander Mercer, what are you doing awake at this hour?”
“I wasn’t awake.”
“Sure you weren’t. Give the phone to y/n.”
He was handing you the phone in a flash and you could see his wide eyes in the dim blue light coming from the living room tv. “It’s Athena.”
“Thanks, I heard. And I told you so,” You smacked him with your pillow when he stuck his tongue out and he quickly ducked back under the blankets. Whether he was hiding from you or Athena was up for debate. “Hi Athena.”
“Y/N,” Uh oh was right. You recognized the tone in her voice immediately. Exasperated and tired with a little bit of worry laced through. “You wouldn’t be able to get ahold of Buck would you?”
“I could,” You sat up straighter and Alex peeked out from under the blankets again, craning his neck to listen in on the conversation. “Is something wrong? Can’t you call Captain Nash?”
“I could,” Athena echoed your words back to you and you heard muffled shouting in the back. “But Captain Nash isn’t Luke’s emergency contact.”
“His what!”
“It’s not a big deal!” Luke’s voice. It was him who had been shouting. “I’m fine!”
“The cast you’re wearing says different,” There was a click on the other end of the line and Alex tripped over the discarded blankets and pillows as he rushed to look for the car keys. “We couldn’t reach him and Maddie was his second emergency contact but May said she went home early today.”
“Yeah, uh, she -” You put on your shoes as fast as possible and reached for the nearest sweater, one you were sure wasn’t yours. “Jee’s teething so she - she’s probably busy with her. What happened? Luke -”
“Is fine. You just focus on getting to the station and bringing Buck to Med cause he’s gotta fill out some papers. I’ll stay here with him until you do.”
“Okay. Okay we’ll be there soon.”
“Y/N put me on speaker,” Athena must’ve been able to hear the panic in your voice. She knew both you and Alex well enough to know every emotion that was running through you both at that moment. “I want both of you to listen to me. Luke is okay. A little scratched up. Maybe a bruised ego. But he’s just fine, I promise you.”
If there was anybody you trusted it was Athena Grant. So you and Alex shared a look, thanked her, and sprinted out of the apartment wondering what on earth Luke had gotten himself into.
Tumblr media
“What do you mean you don’t know!”
“Athena didn’t tell us anything!” You shouted right back at Buck despite knowing it probably wasn’t the best idea given the time or the circumstances. Alex was a few feet away, talking quietly to Chimney to have him relay a message to Maddie. She’d be less angry if the news came from him.
“I thought he went back home,” Buck shook his head before jogging down the stairs and you followed him. He all but charged to the locker room and started shoving all his things in the duffel he always carted with him from the apartment to the station and back. “I thought he was okay.”
It wasn’t until then, until you caught a glimpse of his reflection in the little mirror in his locker surrounded by pictures, that you realized something. Evan Buckley, the firefighter, your brother who always seemed so fearless, was scared.
Buck’s mind was racing at a million miles an hour. He kept going through every piece of information he could from the last two days. Luke had promised him. Sworn he was going back home to his parents. He should’ve known better. They were too much alike and he should’ve known better.
He supposed the worrying came with the territory. The anxiety and panic and not knowing were all things he didn’t like but things he would bear if it meant making sure one of his own was okay.
He had always been protective. You were the youngest Buckley and he took it upon himself to make sure you had a better life than him and Maddie had had. Alex was family and he didn’t hesitate to give him a home when he needed one, metaphorically and literally.
And somewhere along the way the Buckley-Mercer family had grown without him realizing it. Alex had brought his band, his friends, over for dinner once and from that moment on they became a fixture in his life.
Bobby, who was surprised the first time Maddie grinned and hugged him, telling him how proud she was of him. Reggie, who was the first to accept a place in their makeshift home, needing the support and love they offered more than anything. And Luke, who was stubborn and wore his heart on his sleeve and fit right in with them.
And Buck couldn’t believe he had let them down. He couldn’t believe that he tried so hard to let Luke know he was there for him and he had failed. If he had just paid a little more attention then -
“I know what you’re thinking,” Your voice cut off his thoughts and he paused for a moment before continuing.
“No you don’t.”
“You’re blaming yourself. It’s what you always do,” You watched as he pocketed his phone and zipped up the bag. “It’s what you did when I thought I could jump off the swing and ended up with a broken arm even though you couldn’t have stopped me. It’s what you did when Alex had that really bad allergic reaction even though none of us knew he was allergic in the place. It’s what you’re doing now.”
Buck slammed the locker shut without meaning to and silently wondered how you seemed to know everything about him when he seemed to know nothing about any of you, not really. He wasn’t like you or Maddie or Alex and that had never been more clear.
“I’m not blaming myself. I just -” He sighed and walked out of the locker room, past you and Alex, and around to the drivers side of the car. He didn’t get in yet. Instead he glanced between the two of you. “I’m not Maddie. I don’t know how to tell what you guys are thinking. I don’t know how to do the things she does. I can’t help how she does. But - but maybe if I could then -”
“You’re right,” You cut him off, already knowing where he was going. “You’re not Maddie. But we don’t need another Maddie, we need Buck.”
“Y/N’s right,” Alex leaned against the top of the car and gave an easy shrug. “Maddie does family dinners every week and helps us with homework and keeps superhero bandaids around for when Reg and Bobby come back from the skate park with scrapes all over them. But you host game nights and come to every one of our practices when you’re not here and tell really bad jokes when you know we need to hear them.”
“They aren’t bad -”
“Yeah they are,” Both you and Alex answered in sync, successfully pulling the faintest laugh from Buck.
“You’re Buck,” You repeated and finally opened the door of the car. “And when Luke left home he came to you. Athena said you’re his emergency contact because he trusts you more than anyone else. We all do.”
It took less than a couple seconds for Buck to nod and get in the car, the two of you following his lead. Moments later he was speeding away from the 118 and in the direction of the hospital, determined to be where he was needed.
Tumblr media
“You’re an idiot, Luke Patterson.”
“Wow thanks,” Luke rolled his eyes from where he sat on the couch, an action that earned him a scolding from you, and kept picking at the fabric of the pillow he was holding to him.
It was nearing mid morning and you had all gotten back to Buck’s apartment only a short while ago. The combined insistence and intimidation coming from both Buck and Athena meant the doctors had no choice but to run as many tests as necessary until they were positive Luke was fine.
Your eyes scanned his face again, a habit you’d picked up from Maddie, in an attempt to assess the damage once more to be sure nothing had gone wrong in the last ten minutes.
A butterfly bandage on his forehead above his left eye. Some scrapes on his arms from the fall. The brace around his right ankle propped up on the coffee table and some pillows. A tear in his favorite flannel that you were already patching up.
“What were you thinking?” You sighed and dropped your hands, turning in your spot beside him to look at him and read all the expressions flashing across his face. “You got hit by a car, Luke.”
“I did not!” He flinched when Alex, fast asleep across the other couch, shifted a little at the noise. Buck did the same thing upstairs in the loft, though he recognized the sound of talking and opted to listen in. “I swerved out of the way. The bike lost control and I hit the pavement but I’m fine.”
“The mild concussion and sprained ankle beg to differ,” You stared again. Luke refused to meet your eyes, refused to look anywhere around the apartment that wasn’t the pillow on his lap. He’d been doing the same thing since Buck had nearly busted down the door of the room he’d been sitting in at the hospital. “What were you thinking?”
“I don’t know,” Luke finally sighed, knowing you wouldn’t let it go any time soon. “I just - I did go home. At first. And i-it was okay until my mom started doing that -that thing she does. The voice, talking down, asking when I was gonna start getting serious, telling me I should do better. I tried but she wouldn’t stop saying all of it so I -” His shoulders sank and his head hung low and you moved closer. “I left.”
“So why didn’t you come back here?” You reached out, hand on his arm in an attempt to get him to hear you. To listen to you. To talk to you. “What made you think you couldn’t?”
It took a few moments but when Luke finally looked up his eyes were watering and he looked unsure. He looked scared and he was never scared. “I didn’t want to disappoint anyone else.”
“I don’t know if you know this,” You gave a sigh and leaned against the back of the couch on one arm. “But we are, historically, a pretty messed up family.”
You successfully pulled a laugh from Luke and a muffled ‘shut up’ from Alex only made the two of you laugh more. But when the laughter faded away you were left with the ghost of those doubts. Present and needing closure. To be acknowledged and reassured.
“There is nothing you could do that would disappoint Maddie and Buck, believe me,” You gave him a faint, sad smile and for a second he wondered what memories were the source of it. “And you never have to be scared. We’re your family and we’re here for you. Me and Alex and Buck and Maddie. Athena who stayed with you until we got there and after. Chimney who’s breaking the news to Maddie to save us all. Albert. May. Bobby. Reggie. You have all of us. I hate to break it to you but you’re a part of our weird little family and we aren’t going anywhere any time soon. So please, please never feel like you have to hide from us. You’re home here, Luke.”
And he believed every word. For a moment he wondered why he ever doubted it in the first place. It was evident in the way he had a designated spot at the dining table at Maddie’s place. In the way his clothes took up a good amount of space in one of the dressers upstairs. In the pair of house keys that hung on a chain around his neck. Reggie and Bobby were also given a pair long ago.
“Does one of you want to explain to me what the hell happened!” The sound of the door being thrown open startled all of you. Alex sat up quickly and Buck came barreling down the stairs to meet Maddie at the door.
Bobby and Reggie came in after her, holding piles of various items she’d insisted on bringing with. They were followed moments later by Albert carrying bags filled with takeout and then Chimney with Jee-Yun in her car seat.
It was dead silent for a moment as Maddie looked between her siblings, her cousin, and the boy she considered one of her own. They were all her family and that was that.
Finally the silence was broken by Luke leaning over in your direction and quietly asking, “Hey, does home have a place I can hide from Maddie until she’s less mad?”
“Oh, Luke,” You offered him a smile he recognized as a slightly sympathetic yet playful one. “There is nowhere you can hide where Maddie’s anger, love, and aggressive post-injury nurturing won’t reach. Good luck.”
She sat in your spot the moment you stood up and was immediately making sure Luke was okay. Her eyes scanned each injury just as yours had and when she finally let him take a breath he looked around.
All of this, the chaos that was unpacking the various takeout boxes. Setting up a little station on the kitchen island with various medical supplies. Chasing Jee-Yun around as she crawled and wobbled all around the place. Music playing softly in the background as everyone smiled and talked and felt relieved that he was okay.
This was home. Luke was sure of it.

Tom Hiddleston Filmography - A Review
A list of everything Tom Hiddleston has been in, according to IMDB, and I will be watching each one and reviewing it here! A lot of his stuff was super obscure, and he did lots of shorts, so I have excluded those. I also do not include voice acting, only live action.
Tumblr media
1) Loki (2021) Disney+
I'm actually only on episode four, so I don't have a thorough review, but so far it's so good. Love Loki, but something feels weird. Maybe bc I prefer him as Thor Loki, all dressed in his robes and shit, but I still think it's really good. 10/10 Tom Hiddleston overall. 9/10 show.
Alright, after finishing the show and analyzing it, I would like to change my rating to 5/10. 10/10 Tom. Tom is always great, it wasn't his fault how Loki was portrayed here and he did well with what he got. Now, the show? Ass. Like, the whole Sylki thing was meh, boring to give him a female love interest when he's canonically bi, but also the self incest? Fucking weird. His outfit? Trash, put him in his fucking Loki robes. Mobius, man, you coulda been good, but here you are torturing and insulting Loki just like everyone else. Loki just needs someone who shows him true and genuine care and trust. Not whatever the fuck Mobius and Sylvie was doing. This show was not about Loki Loki, it was about Sylvie
2) Avengers: Endgame (2019) Disney+
Need to re-watch, but such a good movie. Tragic, devastating, but so good. 10/10.
3) Leading Lady Parts (2018) (I forgot to remove this)
4) Avengers: Infinity War (2018) Disney+
Again, need to re-watch but 10/10.
5) Thor: Ragnarok (2017) Disney+
Pretty sure this is everyone's favorite Thor movie, and I agree. So fucking good. I need to re-watch it, but it gets an 11/10.
6) Kong: Skull Island (2017) HBO Max
7) The Night Manager (2016) Amazon Prime Video
8) Crimson Peak (2015) Netflix
Shame about the incest. But I enjoyed this movie a lot. I love him in this time period, lawd. I don't really care for the female lead, I don't remember her name but she irks me for no reason. But Tom? Damn, damn, damn. 9/10. Sorry, the incest cost this a point.
9) High-Rise (2015) Amazon Prime Channels
Hm. Um. Hm. So, I get the point of the movie, capitalism sucks, the high levels looking down at the low levels, chaos happens but everyone is still stuck in the capitalist system (the high-rise) and yeah. Maybe I’m just simple-minded, but it wasn’t my favorite movie lol. It was so chaotic, abstract, and dystopian and I’m just not into movies like that. But, for what it was, I think it was good and an interesting symbolism for capitalism. It was just fucking wild. You really gotta use big brain energy to follow and keep up with the metaphors, but it was good. Tommy boy always looking like a snack, we see his badonky, love that. He did really well, I think he captured the essence of the film and portrayed the emotions and character well. 10/10 Tom, 7/10 movie. Also, love to see Bard--I mean, Luke Evans. Love him.
10) I Saw the Light (2015) Amazon Buy or Rent
11) Muppets Most Wanted (2014) Amazon Buy or Rent
I have seen this movie, but I couldn't tell you a thing about it and honestly, I don't care enough about the Muppets to buy it. I'm sure it was good, but who knows.
12) Coriolanus (2014) ?
13) Thor: The Dark World (2013) Disney+
Need to re-watch. Everyone's least favorite Thor movie, but honestly, I loved it. I love all Marvel movies and didn't think this was bad at all.
14) Exhibition (2013) Amazon Buy or Rent
15) Only Lovers Left Alive (2013) Amazon Buy or Rent
16) Friend Request Pending (2012) Amazon Buy or Rent
17) The Hollow Crown (2012) Amazon Buy
18) The Avengers (2012) Disney+
The OG, love love love. Everything about this movie is wonderful. God I love Loki.
19) War Horse (2011) HBO Max
20) The Deep Blue Sea (2011) AMC+ (Amazon)
Hm, interesting. I liked it, Tom Hiddleston is so fantastic. He really showed a range of acting skill here and it was so good. The raw emotions he showcased and just those little facial expressions really made this incredible. We do get to see some badonky, that’s always a plus. His skin is so smooth and looks so soft...but anyway, his acting ability is just so amazing, I love him so much. 10/10 Tom, 7/10 movie.
21) Midnight in Paris (2011) IMDB TV (Amazon)
22) Thor (2011) Disney+
Great, fantastic, wonderful, breathtaking. Lovely movie.
23) Archipelago (2010) AMC+ (Amazon)
24) Wallander (2008-2010) DVD
25) Cranford (2009) BritBox (Amazon)
26) Unrelated (2007) Amazon Buy or Rent
27) Suburban Shootout (2006-2007) DVD
28) Miss Austen Regrets (2007) DVD (or BritBox - Amazon)
Aww, Tom is such a cutie in this movie!! Young babyyyyyyyyy. Great movie, I love period pieces, especially Jane Austen stories so this was good! He was really good in this role, I want more of him in historical pieces!! Not a lot of screen time tho, shame.
29) Casualty (2007) BritBox (Amazon)

Violet was back. Their sweet, caring, innocent girl they had come to love over the summer. There was one week left of summer when the girls had switched again, which Violet wanted to use to spend as much time with her friends as possible.
One entire week to practice for the upcoming Violet Sunset and Dirty Candy gigs.
One entire week to spend with Luke.
One entire week to start the rest of her life.
“Whatcha thinking about?” Luke’s voice snapped her out of her thoughts and his arms snaked around her waist whilst his lips pressed in her neck.
A giggle left Violet’s body, Luke’s favorite sound. “This song I found in Violet’s notebook,” she replied, showing him what she had found when she got back to her bedroom after returning.
“Wrong answer,” Luke responded, retreating his arms and placing his hands on her hips to turn her around.
“Wrong answer?”
A cheesy smile found its way to his lips. “Yeah, the correct answer was ‘You, Luke, I was thinking of you’.” Violet’s eyes rolled back but she couldn’t help the smile that broke through.
If he wanted to go the cheesy route, so could she. “Well, you never really leave my mind, so…”
“You guys are disgusting,” Carrie interrupted when she entered the Wilson kitchen where the two had found themselves. Bobby and Carrie had invited everyone over for one of their classic pool parties. But instead of making it one big party, they kept it intimate with just their closest friends. Until tonight, when everyone at Los Feliz High would be invited and they’d be able to watch a free Violet Sunset gig.
Violet snickered. “Shut up, you love us.”
“You’re very lucky that I do,” she retorted before shoving a bowl of chips into Luke’s hands and a platter of drinks into Violet’s. “Now, chop chop, there are people outside in need of snacks.”
“Snaaaacks!” Reggie exclaimed, flailing his arms excitedly before hoisting himself out of the pool and towards his friends bearing the snacks and drinks.
“Do we know what the setlist is gonna look like?” Bobby questioned when everyone had gathered around the snacks and drinks.
Normally, that question alone would make Violet want to throw up, but this time around it didn’t. She felt confident, sure of herself and her talent. If she could stand up against a shitty manager, she could sing in front of her whole entire school too. Besides, she’d have her band with her.
“I’d say we start with Turn Up The Music?” Luke suggested. “That’s the song that started Violet Sunset in the first place.” A smile found its way to Violet’s face. She remembered that first day with the boys when they parent-trapped them. Kinda.
She was really nervous that day.
“How about we bring Starting Line?” Violet then suggested, glancing at Alex for his reaction. The confusion on his face made her realize that she had the wrong Alex in front of her. “Right, no. Never mind. Wrong universe.”
“I really wanna do Determinate,” Reggie brought in, his mouth full of nachos and salsa.
“Okay,” Violet said, “How about we go Turn Up The Music, Finally Free, Determinate–”
“Bright,” Luke added, knowing he could sing the song if Violet sang along with them.
“We could end with Stand Tall?” The boys shot Violet a confused look. “It’s the song the other Violet left for me. Wait –” she got up from her spot and dashed inside. Luke couldn’t help but follow the girl with his eyes. Her curves came out perfectly in the bathing suit she was wearing and her skin looked so soft, he was going to have a hard time keeping his hands to himself.
“Look,” Violet’s voice caused him to snap out of his thoughts. She showed her friends the notebook she had found on her bed when she had returned a few days prior. Along with the scribbled down lyrics was a little message;
Wish I could watch you shine, Violet! You got this… Love, V.
She had cursed at herself not leaving such a nice note for Violet. She’d left something but it wasn’t quite as nice as this. It wasn’t a whole-ass song she had left her.
“You’re gonna be okay for the gig tonight?” Julie then asked Violet worriedly.
Smiling, Violet nodded her head in response. “I’ve traveled across universes three times, I think I can handle a little show with my best friends.”
-
She could more than handle a little show with her best friends. From Turn Up The Music to Finally Free to Determinate and Bright, she handled every single song with fierceness, power and most of all; fun.
She rocked out on that self-made stage at the edge of the pool, alongside her four best friends with her three best gals in the very first row. She felt like she was on top of the world. Like she could handle everything and anything.
“People of Los Feliz High,” Violet started when they’d just finished slowing it down with Perfect Harmony– upon Luke’s request. “We have one last song for you tonight before our dear Flynn takes over with her magnificent beats.” The crowd whooped and cheered at her feet. “This one goes out to a dear friend of ours. Someone without whom I wouldn’t be here right now. Someone who gifted me this… adventure. It’s also for anyone who’s lost their way or who’s trying to find their place in the world. You’re gonna find it. You’re gonna be okay. With the right people by your side, you’re gonna be okay. You’re gonna stand tall.”
She stole a quick glance at Luke, who gave her a proud smile before she turned to Bobby and gave him a nod as the starting shot. He started playing the keyboard, letting the soft melody Violet had explained to them during soundcheck, float out into the night air.
The girl herself placed the microphone onto its stand that stood in the middle of the stage. In her spotlight. Her very own spotlight.
“Don't blink No, I don't want to miss it One thing, and it's back to the beginning 'Cause everything is rushing in fast Keep going on never look back”
“And it's one, two, three, four times That I'll try for one more night Light a fire in my eyes I'm going out of my mind”
Normally, the boys would join in at this moment but they didn’t. They’d decided to give her a little more. A little more spotlight. A little more time to shine. Because they loved to watch her shine and that was what she did best.
“Whatever happens Even if I'm the last standing I'ma stand tall I'ma stand tall Whatever happens Even when everything's down I'ma stand tall I'ma stand tall”
She threw a glance at Luke, to try and figure out why no one was doing anything. She wanted to make sure they were still there, that they hadn’t bailed on her again. The smile Luke gave her when they locked eyes told her enough.
“I gotta keep on dreaming 'Cause I gotta catch that feeling Whatever happens Even if I'm the last standing I'ma stand tall I'ma stand tall”
With a wide grin on his face, Alex brought the beat in and the crowd went wild. Especially the long-haired skater boy in the front row. Soon thereafter, Reggie joined in on his bass, earning a thankful smile from the lead singer on his left.
“Right now I'm loving every minute Hands down Can't let myself forget it, no 'Cause everything is rushing in fast Keep holding on, nevеr look back”
Then, a guitar riff echoed through the speakers, capturing Violet’s attention as she continued to sing the pre-chorus.
“And it's one, two, three, four times That I'll try for one morе night Light a fire in my eyes”
She took the mic off its stand, giving Luke the opportunity to finish her sentence.
“I'm going out of my mind”
All five of them lapsed into the chorus together with the crowd at their feet, dancing and jumping around. They didn’t know any of the words, but it didn’t matter. The vibe was there. The energy was charged.
“Whatever happens Even if I'm the last standing I'ma stand tall I'ma stand tall Whatever happens Even when everything's down I'ma stand tall I'ma stand tall”
Violet turned to Reggie and Bobby, singing to them and with them. She loved how she could tell they were all feeling the exact same thing without even having to say what they were feeling. She knew they were on the same page.
“I gotta keep on dreaming 'Cause I gotta catch that feeling Whatever happens Even if I'm the last standing I'ma stand tall I'ma stand tall”
She then moved over to Luke on the other side of the stage. Their eyes were locked and, much like every other time they sang together, the chemistry oozed off that stage. Everyone could see that those two belonged together. Soulmates, of sorts. It would declare how Violet had gotten back here a second time.
“Like I'm glowing in the dark I keep on going when it's all falling apart Yeah I know it with all my heart Ooh, ooh”
While Luke hit the high note, Violet turned to Alex, letting the spotlight shine on him for a change.
“Never look back”
“Whatever happens Even if I'm the last standing I'ma stand tall I'ma stand tall”
Then, they all turned to Reggie, who took the next moment in the spotlight.
“Whatever happens Even if I'm the last standing I'ma stand tall I'ma stand tall”
Grinning widely, Violet then sang;
“Stand tall”
And then it was up to Luke and Bobby;
“Stand tall”
With the crowd going insane at their feet, the band lapsed back into the chorus for the very last time that night. This was just the beginning for Violet Sunset. The beginning of a lifetime filled with music and gigs and making people happy.
“Whatever happens Even if I'm the last standing I'ma stand tall I'ma stand tall Whatever happens Even when everything's down I'ma stand tall I'ma stand tall”
“I gotta keep on dreaming 'Cause I gotta catch that feeling Whatever happens Even if I'm the last standing I'ma stand tall I'ma stand tall”
All five of them stood, panting, as they looked out into the crowd of Los Feliz High students. This was their life. This was where they belonged; on a stage, together. Neither of them needed to say it, they could all feel it. This was it.
Violet had been born in the wrong universe, but now, she was home.
Tumblr media
Sunset Curve’s second album was a hit. With songs like Breakthrough and Somebody as singles, rising through to the top, their fanbase had only grown. Even more so when Alex had come out on Instagram by posting a picture of him and Willie with a pride flag behind them – all credits for the photo went to Violet, of course.
Along with Flynn, Julie and Carrie, Violet was appointed to Sunset Curve’s marketing team. They had way better ideas for promotion than their new management team, according to the manager himself.
“Whatcha doin’?” Violet questioned when she found Luke hunched over his notebook in his room, moments before their first radio interview to promote the new album.
His heart jumped a little at the sudden distraction, though once he heard that gorgeous, angelic voice of his girlfriend, he realized the distraction was a welcome one. “Trying to finish a song.”
Violet came up to him and rested her chin on his shoulder, looking at the songbook in front of him. She knew the words on the paper. Those were Alex’s. It was the song Alex started writing before she went back to her original universe.
“That’s Alex’s,” she pointed out, confusion written all over her face.
Luke hummed. “He asked me to help him finish it. But I’m kinda stuck.”
Violet scanned the page. Verse – chorus – verse – chorus – bridge – chorus… “End with the bridge again,” she told him, pointing at the block of lyrics. “I think with an instrumental between the last chorus and last bridge, it could get that heavy, melancholy feel Alex had wanted, and then the instruments stop abruptly with just a bit of piano filling out the room for a few last notes.”
“You are a genius,” Luke whispered excitedly before turning around swiftly to face the girl that had been standing behind him. “Have I told you I’m happy you’re back here?”
Giggling, Violet raked her fingers through Luke’s brown locks at the nape of his neck. “You have, about a million times.” Luke smiled too now and reached his hand to her cheek, wiping the loose lash off her cheek. The dark, long lash stuck to his thumb as he showed it to her.
“Make a wish,” he whispered.
Scrunching up her nose and shutting her eyes real tight, Violet thought up a wish before blowing the lash away.
“What’d you wish for?” Luke asked curiously.
“I can’t tell you that.”
“Oh, come on! You can share your wish with me!”
Violet chuckled. “No, I can’t! It won’t come true if I do!”
A pout formed on Luke’s face as he put on his best puppy dog eyes. “Please?” he pleaded, dragging out the ‘ea’ for extra effect.
“Okay, fine,” she laughed. “Come closer,” she whispered and Luke inched closer. “Closer.” Another inch. “Closer.” Luke’s breath tickled Violet’s lips as they were barely an inch away from hers. “You’ll never know,” she whispered cheekily before crashing her lips to his to shut him up.
He objected at first, but once Violet’s warm tongue swiped across his bottom lip, there was no resisting. Pulling his girl closer, flush to his chest, Luke deepened the kiss. And everything seemed to fall right into place.
A radio interview and tv appearance later, the boys were getting ready for their small gig on Santa Monica Pier. A gig required by Violet herself. The boys did consider themselves fortunate with such a great marketing team.
“We ready?” Manager Dawson asked as the band had gathered in the hallway.
There was a nervous, excited vibe hanging around the group. Though the boys had done many a performance like this one, they still somehow seemed nervous. The girls couldn’t help but feel nervous with them. This was an important gig; the first one with their new management, the first one with a new marketing team, the first one since Alex came out.
As the boys walked out onto the stage at the start of their gig, they were taken aback by the view in front of them. Hundreds of people stood at their feet, cheering and screaming loudly with every possible pride flag in their hand.
Noticing the boys had frozen in their spot, Violet peeked around the corner towards the crowd. Her heart leapt in her chest upon seeing the colorfulness of the crowd. Never had she seen this many pride flags in one place that wasn’t the pride parade.
“Oh my gosh,” she breathed, capturing her friends’ attention. The three girls peeked out with her and smiles spread across their faces. Not only did they have pride flags, but Violet now also noticed banners and boards with “We love you, Alex” written on them. All of this was in support of Alex’s coming out.
“Thanks for coming out tonight, L.A.!” Luke shouted into the mic. “Hope you’re ready for a party!” As soon as the words left his mouth, the starting notes of Breakthrough Violet had come up with months ago chimed throughout the night.
The entire set was electric with every person in the crowd singing along and dancing until their muscles ached. Even their marketing team couldn’t stand still in the wings. The boys were giving every ounce of energy they had in them, and in return, the crowd and their friends gave it back. There was a connection. An undeniable, electric connection.
“We have one more song for you guys,” Luke then said into the mic after they had the entire crowd sobbing when he sang Unsaid Emily, especially for his mom, who sat in the VIP section of the crowd with the rest of their families.
“One our dear Alex wrote himself.” Alex’s eyes widened in panic over the sudden change of plans. Starting Line wasn’t in their set. They hadn’t rehearsed it. It wasn’t even completely finished – or so Alex thought. “But before we play, I wanna bring out someone special. She helped us find our sound again, she helped us fight against a terrible manager who didn’t have the best intentions. She helped us become our most authentic self… L.A., please, give it up for my girlfriend, Violet Dawson.”
This wasn’t planned either and Violet could feel her heart beating in her throat as Luke ran up to her and grabbed her hand.
“What are you doing?” she whisper-shouted over the crowd of cheering fans.
“Trust me,” he replied and kissed her knuckles before gently pushing her down to the piano stool. “Let your heart play, yeah?” She slowly nodded her head, understanding the assignment.
She shook her hands before placing her fingers on the keys and starting to play whatever melody came to her. She closed her eyes for a moment too, letting the music come to her.
Then, Luke’s voice rang through her ears. It was the trigger for her to open her eyes again and watch him as he sang. So passionately, so sincerely.
“In and out of focus Moments that I keep Something for the pain And something so I sleep Won’t you comfort me? Warm the air that I breathe Visceral in doses Hiding in the seams”
His eyes met hers, and she swore she was floating for a moment.
“Standing on the sun and I don’t feel a thing Won’t you comfort me? Take the fear I don’t need”
Luke stepped back from his microphone and turned to Alex, letting him take the chorus he so carefully wrote. He looked so confident up there with his eyes shut and his hands gripping the microphone.
“I wake up every morning with the years ticking by I’m missing all these memories, maybe they were never mine I feel the walls are closing I’m running out of the time I think I missed the gun at the starting line”
The boys then joined Violet with their instruments, heavying the song with its melancholy. Violet even kicked the stool back, standing over the keys as she played them as though on automatic.
To her surprise, Bobby took the next verse. The verse Alex had shown her before she left. Though she had hoped Alex would take this one, she couldn’t help but find comfort in Bobby’s voice as well.
“Tell mе, am I broken? I can never lеave Biting on my tongue and Checking if it bleeds Oh, is it lost on me? All the things I believe”
Then Reggie took the next verse. His voice sounded perfect for this song.
“Something like an omen I can never keep Moving on and on, so very bittersweet Is it lost on me? All the things I don't need”
All four of the boys then joined Alex in the chorus. Their harmonies were still Violet’s very favorite sound in the world. It sounded ethereal. Like she was floating on clouds.
“I wake up every morning with the years ticking by I'm missing all these memories Maybe they were never mine I feel the walls are closing I'm running out of time I think I missed the gun at the starting line”
Glancing over at Alex, Violet noticed the beads of sweat mingling with the tears that ran down his face. They were happy tears, she could tell. Proud tears. Thankful tears. This was his song and they were performing it on an actual stage in front of actual people. This was something they would’ve never done under their previous management.
The boys let Alex take the bridge while they preoccupied themselves with the backing vocals. Violet loved making music with these guys, even if she loved the band on its own, she loved it when she could join in on the fun. She loved being a part of something so special.
“Take me alive, make me a liar Take me alive Don't look away until it's gone Until it's gone Take me alive, make me a liar Take me alive Don't look away until it's gone Until it's gone”
All four of the boys then joined back in on the last chorus. They were giving their all. Not once did their energy waiver.
“I wake up every morning with the years ticking by I'm missing all these memories Maybe they were never mine I feel the walls are closing I'm running out of time I think I missed the gun at the starting line”
Alex let himself go for one last time with Luke as his backing vocals and the other two boys giving their all on their instruments. Even Violet had let herself go on the piano a little. She was living. She felt alive. For the first time in a long time, she felt truly, authentically herself. She wasn’t the Blue Candy anymore. She was Violet Dawson.
“Take me alive, make me a liar Take me alive Don't look away until it's gone Until it's gone Take me alive, make me a liar Take me alive Don't look away until it's gone Until it's gone”
For the first time since walking onto that stage and playing Alex’s song in front of hundreds of people, Violet looked up at them. A roar of applause washed over them. The flutter in her stomach was one of excitement, one of pride.
This was it, the very first moments of the rest of her life.
Once back at the house, Violet had found herself drawn to the balcony at Luke’s bedroom window. The one where she had found him, smoking a cigarette after walking out on rehearsal. The one where he had told her he was in love with her. Where he told her about his mother.
“You okay?” Luke asked, wrapping his arms around her waist from behind. The two of them looked out onto the city lights in front of them. This was one gorgeous view. One she wouldn’t want to trade for the world.
Violet nodded her head. “Just wondering how Violet’s doing in that other cosmic patch.”
This had been one hell of an adventure, but there was no way Violet would ever want to switch back.
This was her universe.
Her world.
Her cosmic patch.
She was home.

Me Gushing over Batb here we go:
These are little details and such that I’ve noticed some aren’t that hard to see, some are new and others are just me gushing... haha.
We gotta bring back the “changing the intro castle to be the one in the movie.” Because this is awesome, I remember being :000 in the theater. Also I love how the intro makes the town look RIGHT THERE when in the movie it was like a days journey or so. (Continuity error in the mob song.) also how the movie straight up starts IN the logo? Love.
The bit about the rose in the film (belle requesting it and Maurice getting it) is a reference to the book where she asks for that same thing. In the book the bimbette characters are actually her sisters.
The Bimbette’s (also called the village lasses) are named in this version two! This time Elise, Eliana and Eloise.
Notice Lumiere and Chapeau (coatrack/valet hes important people smh.) in the background of the opening song, you can notice others too etc. Also this is the first time I’ve noticed it’s all women dancing with the prince. Now the “special one”. Lyric makes sense.
Monsieur Jean (Potts) in general. He’s not subtle lmao.
I love the part in belle of the schoolboys going into the schoolhouse and the beat adjusts to their little half march then to belle jumping from stone to stone
negative points on a six book bookshop(even if people are illiterate- you have a dang school smh)
Stanley spotting!
, on the back of LeFou’s horse in the intro there’s a bow amungst other things. It is implied that they were maybe hunting? As the speak of the war in a past past tense that it wasn’t so recent that they are just returning
LUKE EVANS VOICE SINGING MORE HIM SINGING!!!!!! (It’s never gonna happen ladies smh)
from the amount of people in the square alone it should be booted up to a Town instead of a Village
Maurice is a sexy grandpa. I’m sorry he’s good looking for his age.
Gaston stepping in the puddle, you don’t see his face but you can just SENSE the internal rage screaming lmao
Ok so the detail on the castle while it’s cursed the massive baroque swirl like detail patterns overtaking the architecture like vines and breaking parts of it apart? Stunning , brillant, détail-
the haunted mansion style hands holding the launterns you just KNOW are going to be used later.
you hear the melody’s of the songs before they happen and through the movie, for example Cadenza playing be our guest when Maurice comes in or hearing a small bit of evermore but played up for the partial theme.
Belle using everything as a weapon
Stick from outside
The stool in her cell
The chamber pot from her cell
These fists.
Lefou Paying everyone during gaston. Still the best thing-
Stanley spotting!
I like how the tavern low key looks a little like the one in Disney world. At least over here
The 3 huge Barrels and the sign of “Gaston the hunter.” Proudly displayed over it. Wonder if Lefou got a beer named after him too
ok so when the petals fall more of the castle breaks off and everyone becomes less human, I never noticed a change in the beast before but if you look closely right before it transitions his brow bone becomes thicker and lower. Also Chapeau playing days in the sun on the Violin.
Garderobe and Candeza as objects(Wardrobe and Harpsichord respectably) match each other in their color scheme :). Also Candenza still has a mustache and Madame a chest, if you look the right way.
“after all miss this is France” *cuts food in half * that’s subtle lmao
Mrs.Potts kiss in be our guest is still terrifying.
OK SO IVE JUST NOTICED THIS - the beasts cloak if you look closely it’s not a cloak at all, it was the overcoat/Jacket from the opening scene, it’s so shredded and ruined you can barely tell but you can JUST make out the royal blue and the pattern in its tatters. Also a big win to belle who got him to wear clothes again as before she helps after the wolves I’m 99% sure he was just in the cloak not even breeches (A type of pants) so big win.
me: i am mature i am mature i am mature i am mature i am mature
Me seeing the beasts feet: Big boi toe beans. Big kitty.
Please end me.
The village is named Villeneuve
belle having such a thing for Paris or at least the windmill yet she left it when she was a baby baby??
Stanley sighting!
I also like how the Beast has hair (Well duh hes covered in it-) but i mean human like hair; you can notice his regular hair , it’s just slightly longer and a bit dreadlock like in nature from how tangled it is. It’s not as long as originally because in the scene getting ready for the ball they do cut it down a length.
you have Audra McDonald(Garderobe) and yet you don’t have her sing beauty and the beast? Smh
How expressive beasts eyes alone are my son I’m ;-;
Also hair goals? My dude I’m ;-;
Stanley spotting!
EVERMORE IS THE BEST SONG EVER I WILL STRAIGHT UP FIGHT EVERYONE IN THE ROOM.
Stanley sighting!
Stanley sighting!(I l I k e s t a n l e y)
I need more luke Evans singing, the mob song is another jam.
Tiny baby shovels?! And some other stuff? Wonder what it’s for?
Stanley in a dress spotting!
Adam is shot a total of 3 times.
“let’s have everyone die on screen this time!” I’m. Genuinely when I saw this movie in theaters for a solid moment I genuinely believed that was it- everyone dead (well objects) and adam dead dead. I was actually fooled and emotional.
Garderobe and Cadenza are dressed the same as that night
frou-frou has a little tuff for a moment
Chapeau’s hair, his legs for a moment
Cogsworth has Roman numerals as his bottons , a monocle and his mustache is uneven.
Lumire is in a golden outfit
Plumette has a feathery bottom to her dress and a Golden sort of paint paint pattern across her chest
Mrs. Potts and chip have the makeup on their face.
DETAILS I LOVE IT.
Also Ladies get yourself a Lumierè, get yourself someone who looks at you like that
Mrs. Potts first name is Beatrice
Cogsworth’s first name is henry.
We love everyone dancing. And Rip Henry hes fine just- his wife knows him now.

Random Jatp theory , I just thought about this and really needed to share lmao.
What if the boy’s unfinished business is related to Bobby ? Like they need to come together again as the band they used to be and play WITH HIM at the orpheum ? Or just forgive him and get the band back ?

Ghost - Luke Patterson x Reader
Tumblr media
Warnings: Fluff , Juke isn’t a thing here
Words: 1166
Summary: Luke is slowly falling for Julie’s friend but he can’t talk to her since she can’t see him. He decides to create an account on  Snapchat so he can talk to her.
A/N: This was inspired by the song Ghost by Confetti and I’m obsessed with a cute , in love Luke. Also , English isn’t my first language so I’m sorry if there is any mistakes.
That day was probably the worst and the best day Luke ever had the chance of living. Yesterday ,Reggie who missed school , had that «cool» idea to go back to it by spending a whole day there with Julie , just walking around and assisting to her music classes without anyone noticing. For Luke , THAT was the bad part.
The guitarist never loved school and he was never good at it either. Maybe his time in High School would have been nicer if he actually cared about studying and getting good grades but he didn’t. All Luke ever cared about was music , his mom and of course .. his band. But he finally agreed to Reggie’s idea because he knew it would make his friend happy and also since it wasn’t an ordinary school but a performing arts school .. it looked better than spending the whole day thinking about their death. Not that it was something he would think of .. but that was the only thing Alex looked like he cared of right now.
So , the boys went to school this morning , Reggie looking like he was born again , Luke being annoyed to go and Alex ... that kid  came just to assist to dance classes. Maybe those would even help him with his anxiety like playing drums did.
‘‘ So how was your day ? ‘‘ Julie just said , coming in the studio without the boys noticing.
‘‘ Great , Reggie started , spent 1h in music class with you and Luke , then 1h dancing with Alex and finally , I learned how to take care of a baby ! ‘‘
‘‘ A baby ? Julie and Luke asked .’‘
‘‘ Yeah thought it might be useful if I ever get a dog someday. ‘‘
‘‘ We don’t even have those kind of classes at school , Julie pointed out. ‘‘
‘‘ Oh no you don’t , I watched a couple taking care of their child on the beach. ‘‘
Reggie’s smile was so big that it made laugh everyone. If the guys were still alive , Reggie would definitely have an hamster or a dog by now.
‘‘ So , are we starting tonight’s band practice ? Luke asked. ‘‘
Julie’s reaction was clearly saying she had something else to focus on.
‘‘ Hmm... yeah .. Talking about band practice. I promised y/n I would help her write a song for the next school performance. Do you guys mind if we skip this practice for once ? ‘‘
Luke’s face radically changed when he heard what seems like a familiar name to his ears.
‘‘ Y/N ? Like .. y/n the girl that was with us in music class this morning ? ‘‘
Both Alex and Reggie turned to their friend.
‘‘ I think somebody has a crush on Julie’s friend , Reggie said. ‘’
Julie’s face turned to Luke while Alex laughted with his bandmate. Luke was of course between their laughts denying what he was being accused of.
‘’ Luke you can’t really love y/n ! You’re a ghost and she doesn’t even know you .. neither do you . ‘’
Luke’s face slumped at Julie’s sentence. Of course she was right but what if this time even her being right wouldn’t stop him from crushing on a girl that seemed perfect like he had seen her ? He liked Julie , he really liked her , she was his friend after all and his bandmate but ,this time he really didn’t feel like listening to his friend’s advices even if they would turned out to be the best ones. And at that moment , Julie didn’t realise what she just did.
‘‘ I was just curious ! That name seemed familiar I don’t have a crush on your friend.’‘
‘‘ Right. I hope what you’re saying is true , Julie ended before  leaving the garage.’‘
Luke let himself fall on the couch. He was done with Julie and her blames but there was still two ghosts he would never convince otherwise. Alex and Reggie already made their minds ,  their friend was falling for a lifer , and this lifer in particular was y/n.
‘‘ So , what made you fall for a complete stranger ? Alex asked. ‘‘
Luke turned to his friend , debating wether or not bring Willie in the conversation. Knowing what was going on with the skateboarder and his friend , that wouldn’t be a great idea right now. The two boys just took a break from their relationship after Caleb’s curse , Willie was feeling too bad and Alex didn’t want him to have troubles with Caleb. But the fact was , wasn’t Willie a stranger when Alex first saw him ?

It was almost midnight when the two girls collapsed on the floor of the dance studio after having rehearsed every single Dirty Candy song at least twice. Violet had almost gotten everything down.
“Will you tell me more about the other universe?” Carrie asked as she stared at the off-white ceiling overhead.
Violet turned her head a little to look at her best friend before facing the ceiling too. “Where should I start?”
“Are we friends?” Carrie questioned without missing a beat.
“Yeah, we’re best friends with Julie and Flynn. We spend most days in Julie’s garage, making music. We wrote at least a dozen songs together, I believe.” Violet smiled at the memory of them writing their first song together just a few years ago. It was one of their proudest moments together.
Carrie then sat up straight, the movement capturing Violet’s attention. “Will you show me one?” she asked, and Violet shot up into the seating position too. “Please?”
Violet’s eyes darted across the room where she found a bunch of instruments stalled. With a smile, she got up and made a beeline for the acoustic guitar in the corner before returning and sitting down opposite of Carrie.
After having tuned the guitar to her liking, Violet placed her fingers on the correct strings and started playing. An upbeat melody chimed through the room seconds before Violet’s voice followed.
“Hey, yeah, no, oh, oh, yeah, mmm” Listen, I used to dress like everybody else I wanted to just blend in They told me no, keep my dreams on the low Told me I'd never win, yeah I love to be different Guard up to opinions then let 'em in Tear me down, wanna see me drown Like being happy is such a sin, uh-huh”
Violet looked up for a second to find Carrie watching her with the softest smile on her face, the way Carrie always looked at her. It made her feel at home.
“And now I'm older, it's never over It don't stop affecting me, the world keeps testing me I'm getting on track with every knock back On a bad day, I just gotta stay, stay, stay, stay”
Violet’s voice grew stronger as she lapsed into the chorus with Carrie watching her intently.
“I stay clued up and I'm ready To love the good and live the bad C-c-clued up and now I get it Just make the best of what you have 'Cause sometimes it's beauty, sometimes it's pain Sometimes it's sunshine and sometimes it's rain I'm c-c-clued up and now I get it Just make the best of what you have”
“Woah-oh-oh, woah-oh-oh Woah-oh-oh, woah C-c-clued up and now I get it Just make the best of what you have”
She slowed it down again, her voice mellowing out during the second verse.
“Invisible, I feel like I'm forgotten Do you even notice me? Yeah Work myself up, let the nerves take over How I feel isn't what you see I need control, don't know how to let it go I need to learn to let it be, yeah Gotta remember nothing lasts forever So I'm just happy being me, oh-oh”
“And when I'm older, it's never over It don't stop affecting me, the world keeps testing me I'm staying on track with every knock back On a bad day, I just gotta stay, stay, stay, stay”
“I stay clued up and I'm ready To love the good and live the bad C-c-clued up and now I get it Just make the best of what you have 'Cause sometimes it's beauty, sometimes it's pain Sometimes it's sunshine and sometimes it's rain I'm c-c-clued up and now I get it Just make the best of what you have”
To Violet’s surprise, Carrie joined in during the post-chorus, which caused a wide, genuine smile to fall on Violet’s lips as the two voices blended together. For a moment, it was like nothing had changed and she was still in her own universe.
“Woah-oh-oh, woah-oh-oh Woah-oh-oh, woah C-c-clued up and now I get it Just make the best of what you have”
“I will never run, never run from a lesson I will never hide, never hide from the present All the ups and the downs All the heres and the nows, oh Everything I face, no, it's never forgotten 'Cause every single day is a chance I can blossom All the ups and the downs Yeah, I'm living right now, hey”
“Mmm, I'm living right now, yeah Aah, one, two, three!”
A giggle escaped Carrie’s lips before she tried her hardest to sing along with Violet. It ended up with her just echoing some of the words, but it added a certain quality to the song that Violet really digged.
“I'm c-c-clued up and I'm ready To love the good and live the bad C-c-clued up and now I get it Just make the best of what you have 'Cause sometimes it's beauty (beauty, no), sometimes it's pain (pain) Sometimes it's sunshine and sometimes it's rain (oh, sometimes it's rain) I'm c-c-clued up (up) and now I'm ready Just make the best of what you have”
“Woah-oh-oh, woah-oh-oh, oh, oh I'm c-c-clued up and now I get it Just make the best of what you have Beauty, but sometimes it's pain, mmh Sometimes it's sunshine, sometimes it's rain”
The last notes echoed through the space as the song came to an end, and made room for Carrie’s clapping and giggling.
“That sounded great! Did you write this one?” she asked, intrigued to hear more about this universe of Violet’s.
Violet smiled and placed the guitar next to her before answering. “Actually, you did…”
Carrie’s eyes widened. “I did? Y-you mean your Carrie doesn’t sing about being popular and being the best at everything like I do?!” The girl was baffled at the idea that there were other subjects to write about than just popularity.
“You should try it sometime,” Violet told her with a smile. “I’m sure you got something great in you. If Carrie from my universe can do it, then so can you.”
“Sounds like a pretty good universe you lived in,” it sounded from the other side of the room and it didn’t sound like Carrie’s voice, whatsoever. Violet and Carrie turned their heads to find Bobby in the doorway.
Violet smiled. “Actually, it was just okay. I don’t see you that often…” Bobby tilted his head a little before walking closer towards the girls. “What happened to Sunset Curve here? In my universe, they’re pretty big and touring the country at this very moment…”
“We, uhm, we split up…” Bobby replied with a tinge of sadness in his voice.
“What happened?”
Bobby heaved in a deep breath before joining the girls on the floor. “Creative differences. I wanted to be famous, Luke was in it to prove to his parents he could make a career out of it, Alex just wanted to work out his frustrations and Reggie was just in it because his friends were…”
“Oh, that sounds pretty terrible. Where are they now?”
The boy shrugged. “Luke plays football, Reggie is focusing on his studies and Alex only has time for Willie.”
“Who’s Willie?” Violet wanted to know, having never heard of the boy before.
“Alex’s boyfriend,” Carrie replied, “And they’re the cutest couple on earth, I swear to God!”
Violet’s eyes widened. “I knew Alex was gay. I swear the whole dating-a-different-girl-every-night was just a publicity stunt!” The Wilson siblings shot the girl a questioning look. “It’s a long story… But Alex is gay! Yay!” She excitedly clapped her hands, making the two teenagers in front of her chuckle.
“So, any clue how we’re gonna get you back?” Carrie asked then.
Violet smirked, “You already sick of me, Wilson?” Carrie’s mouth opened and closed, but no words came out. “I’m kidding. But no, I’ve got no clue whatsoever… There must be a reason why I’ve been brought here, right?”
“I mean, you did tell me you wished someone would believe in me,” Bobby muttered, his voice laced with hurt and betrayal.
Violet’s eyebrows furrowed. “I’m sorry about that, Bobby… I’m sure I didn’t mean it…”
The three kids let the words settle in their brain before the three of them burst out into laughter. That sounded weird, even considering the situation.
For the rest of the night, the three of them brainstorm together, trying to figure out what reason could be behind the switch. There had to be a reason for her to suddenly show up here. It had to mean something.
Tumblr media
Determinedly, Violet stormed through the hallway towards where she last saw Julie, Flynn and Carrie. They were still at Julie’s locker and, like they had many times before, immediately shut up. This time, Violet ignored it and instead came straight to the point.
“What’s this?” she asked and showed the girls the picture she had made of the news article in the trophy case. “This isn’t right! Sunset Curve broke up a year ago!”
Just as the words left her mouth, a girl Violet could recognize from miles away walked her way. She had a strut in her step and her long, black hair swooshed behind her with every swaying step she took.
“Kayla!” Violet called out and when her friend turned around, her face screamed disgust.
“What do you want?” she asked, her tone laced with annoyance.
Violet’s eyes flicked from Kayla to Carrie and back. Kayla and Carrie weren’t friends here. And neither were Violet and Kayla. Dirty Candy wasn’t a thing in this universe. Though the logo on Kayla’s badge that was pinned to her jean jacket said differently.
“Nothing – N-nevermind.” Violet turned back to the girls she was previously talking to. “Does Dirty Candy exist?” she asked in a hushed voice.
“Yeah,” Carrie replied, the volume of her voice matching Violet’s. “It’s Kayla’s. She created the band with Dana, Cynthia and Sophia.”
Violet blinked a few times, trying to process all the information. “Dana’s in the band?” she whispered, and neither of the girls were sure if she was talking to them or not. “Dana got kicked out of Dirty Candy… Our Dirty Candy.” She said that last part to Carrie.
“Vi, we were never in Dirty Candy…” Carrie told her with furrowed eyebrows.
Julie lifted her hand to Violet’s arm. “Are you certain about that universe thing?”
“Yes!” Violet groaned. “This isn’t the world I’m used to living in. In my world, Carrie and I are in Dirty Candy and we haven’t spoken in over a year since your mother died.” She pointed at Carrie first, then gestured to the two other girls before her gaze landed on Julie.
Julie’s eyebrows knitted together in confusion. Her mother really did know more, she was certain of it. There was something she was hiding and Julie had to find out what it was. But first, she wanted to know more about this universe Violet seemed to come from.
She grabbed Violet’s hand and dragged her towards the empty music room at the back of the school where no one ever came. This used to be Sunset Curve’s rehearsal space during their free periods and  now, Julie used it to work on her music when the girls couldn’t help.
“Tell us more about that universe of yours,” Julie demanded as she hopped onto a desk in the corner. Her eyes flicked to the other two girls, searching for their approval before adding, “We wanna know everything.”
“So, in my universe, your mother passed away. She got ill, really ill and after she passed, you lost your love for music. You didn’t sing a note for a year and we kinda lost each other. Carrie and I started to spend more time together afterwards and eventually created Dirty Candy. We grew our band with Cynthia, Sophia and Kayla, and became more and more popular the more we performed at school and at Chubbie’s pizzeria.”
Carrie’s eyes twinkled at the idea of forming a band with her best friends, though she couldn’t quite see how she could start a band without Flynn and Julie. There was no Carrie and Violet without Flynn and Julie, or any other way around.
“You have a Chubbie’s too?” Flynn questioned, earning a glare from Carrie and Julie.
“That’s your question?” Julie shot back, shaking her head. She then turned back to Violet. “Continue, please.”
Violet chuckled a little. “Besides rehearsals for Dirty Candy, I mostly hang out at Carrie’s where Bobby mostly mopes around because he doesn’t have any friends since Sunset Curve split up.”
“Why’d they split?” Carrie wanted to know.
“I don’t know, some drama, I guess? I don’t really pay much attention to him, to be honest.” A soft laugh escaped Violet’s mouth at the thought of teasing Bobby to the fullest with all her stupid pranks and witty comebacks during rehearsals.
“Why’d you switch places with our Violet?” Julie then queried.
Violet shrugged. “If only I knew that… The blogpost I found doesn’t really give a theory about why people switch places with their parallel self. It just – happened, I guess?”
Julie mulled the answer over in her head whilst her teeth dug into her bottom lip in thought. She knew she could ask her mother about all of this. She had to know something about it. There had to be more that she could tell them.
“I think there’s someone who can help us,” she muttered and jumped back on her feet. Her three friends followed behind her until they reached the street and they were on their way to Julie’s house. Their last period was a free period, so it wouldn’t really matter that they left school early. It was something they did quite often to go and jam in Julie’s garage.
“Mom?” Julie called out as the girls entered the house. “Mom! You home?”
Rose entered the hallway from the living room with a wide smile on her face and a twinkle in her eyes that Violet hadn’t seen in years. The girl’s eyes widened upon seeing the curly-headed woman. She was alive. Alive and well and right in front of her.
“You– you’re alive… Miss Molina… You’re alive. You’re actually–” Violet let out a surprised chuckle whilst tears pooled in her eyes. “You’re actually alive…” she breathed.
Rose’s eyes darted from Violet to her daughter and the other girls before landing back on Violet. A light behind her eyes flicked on, signalling at the resemblance of the situation she had found herself in years ago.
“I know what’s going on here,” Rose mumbled before heading into the kitchen. The girls exchanged glances before following the Latina woman. Violet and Julie took a seat at the table, opposite where Rose had taken a seat, while Carrie leaned against the counter where Flynn hoisted herself onto.
With the girls’ expectant eyes on her, Rose heaved in a deep breath. “You’ve switched universes, haven’t you?” was the first question she asked. “You fainted and woke up in a world where you know the people but they lead completely different lives?”
Violet’s mouth dropped, her eyes flicking to the other girls before focusing back on Rose. “Y-yes, that’s… That’s exactly what happened.”
Rose smiled faintly. “I got myself in the same situation…” she admitted. “I was eighteen at the time and I had told my boyfriend at the time that I wished I lived in a world where he wasn’t such a jerk. Next thing I knew, I fainted and woke up in a world where my boyfriend was gay and my friends led completely different lives from mine. I was in a band, Rose and The Petal Pushers, and we were pretty famous there. All my other friends either didn’t talk to me anymore or were in my band.”
Carrie and Violet exchanged a quick glance. That sounded an awful lot like them.
“How did you get back here?” Flynn questioned from her spot on the counter.
Fiddling with the bracelet on her wrist, Rose continued. “There’s this unfinished business I had to complete in that world and the Rose I knew had to do the same in mine. My unfinished business was getting Rose and The Petal Pushers in a band while the other Rose had to help find my boyfriend’s way out of the closet…” she smiled at the memory that floated back to the surface. “Aside from marriage and having two beautiful children–” she tucked a strand of Julie’s hair behind her ear with a smile, “The switch was the biggest adventure of my entire life.”
“Wow, mom,” breathed Julie.
Violet nodded her head, “That’s a crazy story, miss Molina.”
Rose scoffed and reached for Violet’s hand. “Please, you call me Rose in this universe.”
A smile landed on Violet’s cheeks. “Thanks for the reassuring story, Rose.”
“I hope it calms your nerves and worries about all of this.”
“It definitely does.”
Rose smiled before patting the girl’s hand. “So,” she said, “What’s your unfinished business?”

“Are you sure that was such a good move?” Bobby asked, brows furrowed, “Promising them you’re joining the band while you’re still in Dirty Candy? That won’t work…”
Violet shrugged dismissively. “It worked for Alex and I’m sure it’s gonna work on Reggie…” She heaved in a breath, gathering her courage for the next part in the plan. “Where do we find our favorite bassist?”
“The library?” Violet asked when the Wilson siblings brought her to the school’s library. “You’re telling me the Reggie in this universe actually studies?” Carrie nodded in response. “Groundbreaking.”
Carrie and Violet made their way to the back of the library where they found Reggie with Dana and Dexter. Dana, Violet knew, was an aspiring musician who actually joined Dirty Candy in her universe. Dexter was a friend of Nick’s and part of his band.
“Reggie,” Violet spoke up, getting the students’ attention.
“Violet? Carrie?” Confusion dripped off their names as they rolled off Reggie’s lips.
Dana narrowed her eyes at the two girls. “What do you want?” she spat.
Choosing to ignore the blatant hate that Dana spewed at the girls, Violet focused back on Reggie and shot him a smile. “I heard you’re a pretty good bassist…” She tested the waters.
“Yeah, I guess you could say that…” he answered.
“Well… I was wondering if you would be interested in coming back to Sunset Curve?”
Reggie’s eyes widened before he scoffed. He was clearly taken aback, but tried to play it cool. “We broke up for a reason, Violet. Not gonna happen.”
“Not even when I’m joining the band?” she tried again, which very clearly sparked a little more interest as the boy’s eyebrows shot upwards before his teeth started gnawing at his lower lip.
“Okay,” he replied. “If you get Luke to join your band, I’m in too.”
Carrie and Violet exchanged glances and nodded. They were a little surprised this one was so easy, though they should’ve expected that. Reggie had always been more of a trustworthy puppy than a leading lion anyway.
“Cool. We’ll keep you posted,” Carrie said and the two girls left the students alone.
Now, their next stop was Luke Patterson. The real challenge out of the three boys. Not only because he was going to be the hardest to convince, but because Violet was nervous to see him again. She hadn’t forgotten what he had said to her and even though this was a different version, she knew seeing him would make her nervous and cause her to shut down.
“Yo, Luke!” Carrie yelled at the group of boys on the lacrosse field. He stopped mid-conversation with Nick before jogging up to the girls that had beckoned him.
“You girls lost?” he asked and pushed his hair back.
That crush the girls were talking about in the other universe seemingly still counted in another universe. Violet’s throat closed up and her entire body heated up from the inside out.
“I uhm…” she stuttered and stumbled, but no proper words came out.
After spending a few days with this new Violet, Carrie had gotten to know this version pretty well, and decided to take over from her. “We were wondering if you’d consider rejoining Sunset Curve if Violet would join the band too?” she asked the jock confidently.
Luke chuckled. “Really? What about Dirty Candy?”
“She can do both,” Carrie replied in Violet’s place as the girl didn’t even dare to look Luke in the eye. For whatever reason that was, Carrie would find out later.
The brunette jock let his eyes glide down the shy girl in front of him. She was going to lead their band? This little tiny mouse over here? He remembered her being more obnoxious and confident, but she was a lot less up close.
“No, thank you,” he said and started jogging away.
“No, thank you? Seriously?!” Carrie’s shrill voice stopped him.
He sighed and turned around again. “Look, Sunset Curve didn’t work out because of your brother. I doubt it will when she joins in. We don’t need no Bubblegum Princess in our non-existing band.”
As Luke walked away, Violet felt herself falling farther and farther away from her own universe. There was no way she was ever going to make it back. There was no way she could ever get that band back together.
“What do we do now?” she asked Carrie. “How are we gonna get them to talk?”
Carrie smiled and wrapped her arm around Violet’s shoulders, guiding her back towards the school building. “The only way Carrie Wilson knows how to,” she said dramatically. Violet looked up  to her best friend with questioning eyes. “Throwing a party!”

Carrie entered the garage after their last school day on Friday where her three best friends were waiting for her, impatiently. The blonde girl had promised them she’d get them all Sunset Curve tickets for their gig at the Orpheum that night.
The place where it all began for the boys was the Orpheum. It was where they had their first big showcase and a manager signed them to their label. That night’s show was the most important one to Sunset Curve, coming back after skyrocketing in the charts and around the country for a while.
It was the most important gig to the girls, too. With their tickets, they’d be able to go and see the band live while also setting their whole plan in motion to get Luke to fall in love with Violet.
To say it made Violet a little nervous would be an understatement. Though in her world, she looked like this young woman that oozed confidence, she didn’t quite feel so hot right about now. The Luke from her universe was a bit of a loser. Someone she’d easily wrap around her finger. But this Luke could be completely different and that scared.
“Did you get the tickets?” Julie asked with wide eyes and a nervous, bouncy leg Violet stopped by placing her hand on her knee as she sat next to her on the couch.
Carrie smirked and showed them the four concert tickets in her hand. “Not only that…” she added before showing her other hand, which held four backstage passes. Two girls in front of her squealed and got up from their spots to admire the passes up close.
Violet, however, stayed put and tried to manage a smile. A smile that turned into a grimace before finally disappearing from her face. One that Carrie immediately noticed fading.
“You okay, Vi?” she asked, causing the two other girls to turn to their friend as well.
The girl on the sofa lifted her eyes to meet her friends’. “What– Oh, yeah. I’m fine.”
Carrie’s lips pressed together in a thin line as her eyes met Julie’s and Flynn’s. All three of them knew something was off. She wasn’t the confident girl they met days ago. She wasn’t the overly demanding, no-nonsense woman. For a moment, they saw the rawest possible side of Violet. One that reminded them of their Violet.
“You’re gonna be fine, babes,” said Julie and rejoined Violet on the couch, wrapping her arm around the girl’s shoulder.
Violet scoffed. “Of course I am. What makes you think I’m not?” She was trying to feign her confidence, but her friends could see right through her.
“Your face,” Flynn spoke up. Her bottom lip stuck out into a pout whilst she joined the two girls on the sofa, Carrie following her example. “You look like Julie when she has to play in front of a crowd.”
Julie slapped Flynn’s shoulder playfully before Carrie joined into the conversation again. “What’s going on in that pretty mind of yours, Lettie… Maybe we can help?”
Violet wasn’t used to hearing the nickname anymore. It was something her father used to call and she hadn’t seen him in a good few years since her parents got divorced. But if it bothered her, she didn’t show it.
“In my universe, Luke is a loser. He gave up on his biggest dream. He’s still the school’s jock, yes, but people know what happened to him and they pity him. He’s an extremely easy target to wrap around your finger. But this version of him…” she heaved in a deep breath. “I don’t know if I’m gonna be able to wrap him around my finger as easily.”
Flynn lifted her hand and tucked a strand of hair behind Violet’s ear while Julie spoke up. “This one is known as the womanizer of the band,” she said.
Carrie continued, “In every tabloid, on every internet page, he’s seen with a new woman on his arm.”
Violet’s eyebrows furrowed. That didn’t sound like the Luke she knew at all. “I think it’s a publicity stunt but…” Flynn said and shrugged. Violet slowly nodded her head, processing all the information she was given. When Flynn saw this, she nudged Violet’s shoulder. “You’re gonna do great. You’re a charming, attractive woman and, from what I’ve seen so far, pretty confident in your skin.”
The girl smiled, and her friends even noticed a tint of red coloring her cheeks. “You got this,” said Julie with a smile. “You so got this!”
With the girl’s words echoing in Violet’s mind, she went back home and, when she started getting ready that night, she hyped herself up. She listened to Sunset Curve’s albums on repeat to at least know a few of the songs and danced around her bedroom whilst trying on various outfits.
Looking at her own reflection in the mirror, she judged the outfit she was wearing. A light green dress with a flower pattern. She wasn’t normally one to wear flowers, but this looked really cute on her, especially with the black belt she had fastened around her waist. It perfectly showed all her curves and had quite the plunging neckline, which showed the right amount of cleavage to put to use when flirting with Luke.
As the thought of Luke flashed through her mind, she felt the nerves bubble up again. Never in her life had she been this nervous except for the first time she performed for a live audience with Dirty Candy. Or when she was the lead in the musical in seventh grade.
Her train of thought got interrupted before its fatal crash by someone barging into her room, all excited. Violet almost didn’t recognize him until he spoke up. “Vivi, you gotta see this, honey!” her father exclaimed while holding something out to her.
Violet didn’t even bother to look at what was in his hands, she was busy freaking out over the fact that her father, the person she hadn’t seen since he divorced her mom, was in her bedroom.
Trying to keep her cool, Violet swallowed all her pride and smiled. “Looks cool, dad,” she said. “I uhm… I’m getting ready for a night out with the girls, so could you…” she pointed her thumb towards the door.
“A night out?” he asked, his brows furrowed. “You never go on nights out…”
Violet scolded her parallel self for not living her full life here but shrugged her shoulders at her dad dismissively. “It’s a concert. Bobby Wilson’s band is playing the Orpheum tonight and Carrie has tickets.”
“Ah,” her dad said, nodding his head. “Cool. I’ll let you get ready then–” he looked down at her outfit. “That’s a pretty dress, sweetie. It’s been a while since you wore it.” He gave her one last smile before heading out the door and shutting it on his way out.
Violet exhaled a breath she wasn’t aware she was holding before grabbing her phone and calling the first person she could think of over FaceTime. Within seconds, the smiling, blonde haired best friend appeared on the small screen.
“Hey ba–” before she could finish her sentence, Violet cut her off.
“When were you gonna tell me my parents were still together?!” she whisper-shouted to make sure her dad didn’t hear in case he was still in the hallway.
Carrie was taken aback for a moment and blinked rapidly. “Your parents are divorced?” she asked and Violet nodded, remembering the terrible fights and anxious nights when her dad came  home drunk for the nth time. She remembered hearing her mother cry in her bedroom and being unable to do anything about it. She had hated her dad for a good while after that. But seeing him here, now, reminded her of the good days they’d had back in the day.
“I’m sorry, Vi,” Carrie said, her usual bright smile turning into a sad frown. “What happened between them?” she asked, curiously. “If you wanna tell me, that is.”
Violet heaved in a deep breath. “It’s been years since it happened, but five years ago, my mom kicked dad out of the house… He’d come home drunk, night after night, and I would hear mom and dad fighting while I was in bed… Mom couldn’t handle it anymore, so she packed his bags for him and kicked him out. They made everything official and we haven’t seen him or heard from him since the divorce.” A tear rolled down Violet’s cheek as she spoke, but she wiped it away quickly and chuckled. “Sometimes, I wonder if he’s even still alive.”
“That’s terrible, Vi, I’m sorry…”
Violet shrugged. “It’s alright. I’ve gotten over it by now… Until I just saw him here.”
“I would’ve told you if I’d known, Violet… I’m sorry.”
The brunette chuckled tearily. “Stop saying sorry, Care. It’s all good. It just took me off guard, that’s all.” Carrie pressed her lips together and tilted her head a little in compassion. “But let’s talk outfits, shall we?” A flash of nostalgia coursed through her as she remembered her and Carrie talked about outfits before she got here.
“What are the options?” Carrie asked, respecting Violet’s wish to drop the previous subject. Violet got up from her bed and placed her phone on the chest of drawers opposite of her bed.
“This dress,” she said and twirled to show the cute dress she was wearing. Carrie hummed, impressed by the outfit, but not entirely convinced just yet. Violet then reached for the clothes she had sprawled across her bed. “Or ripped jeans with a crop top and a cute jacket.” She juggled to hold the three items up to the camera of her phone. “But it’s a pink jacket and pink is your color, so I’m not sure about this one.”
“It’s not my color here?” Carrie suggested. “What else you got?”
“Uhm…” she placed the clothes back on the bed and reached for another one. “This.” She showed a black mesh top with gold stars embroidered on it, along with black skinny jeans.
Carrie gasped. “Did that come out of our Violet’s closet?!” she asked.
“Yup,” Violet nodded. “I found it near the back of the closet. I take it your Violet doesn’t wear it that often?”
“Try at all!” Carrie exclaimed. “Can you try it on for me, please?”
Violet nodded and started unbuckling the belt on her dress.
“You always change in front of cameras?” Carrie asked, giggling, which caused Violet to stop in her tracks with her fingers curling around the hem of the dress.
“Carrie and I always change in front of one another,” she shrugged and pulled the dress over her head, leaving her in just her underwear. She pulled the mesh top over the black bralet she was wearing and squeezed herself into the black skinnies.
“Needs a belt,” Carrie demanded, trying to hide the obvious blush that had crept to her cheeks. Violet nodded in agreement and reached for the belt she had put over the dress before. “Necklaces.”
Obeying her best friend’s demands, Violet browsed through the box of jewellery the other Violet had on the cupboard until finding some gold necklaces that would go well with her outfit.
“Now black ankle boots.”
Violet nodded again and went into the closet to find black velvet boots with the slightest block heel on them. A smile befell her face as she inspected the shoes. These were shoes she would buy and, judging from what she’d heard about the other Violet, something she wouldn’t buy. There had to be a part of her in her parallel self, more than just their appearances.
She quickly put the boots on her feet and showed the outfit to Carrie over FaceTime, earning a gasp the second she walked into frame. “If Luke doesn’t fall for you now, then that boy is blind.”
Violet giggled and sat down on the floor in front of her window, taking her phone with her, so she could talk to Carrie some more. It was the only familiar thing she had and though their dynamic had changed from the one she had with her Carrie. It still felt somewhat normal.
“When are we leaving?” Violet asked when a honk was heard from outside her house. Furrowing her eyebrows, she looked outside to find Julie getting out of a car that was parked in front of Violet’s house. “I guess the answer’s now…” she giggled.
Carrie’s eyes widened. “Julie’s already there?!” she exclaimed and Violet watched as the girl scrambled up from her bed and started rushing through her bedroom.
“I’m gonna let you get ready. See you in a while!” she said but Carrie was too busy to hear, so Violet pressed the red button and took one last glance in the mirror. After fixing a bit of run-out mascara, she grabbed all of her stuff and made her way downstairs where her dad was talking to Julie at the front door.
“Hey Vi,” Julie greeted once her eyes fell on the girl. “Looking good!”
Violet’s dad turned now too and had to blink a few times. “Since when do you have that in your closet?!” he asked and Violet could feel the anger rising within him. She had heard that tone on him enough to know what was going to happen if she didn’t step in.
“I’ve had this for ages, dad,” she grabbed Julie’s hand. “Now, we have to go ‘cause otherwise, we’ll be late.” She dragged the Latina girl out the door at a speed where she could just about say goodbye to Mister Dawson before he was completely out of earshot.
Once the girls were safely in Mister Molina’s gray Subaru Outback, Violet could finally breathe properly. Seeing her father again had her a little on edge, she couldn’t lie about that but she had to play it cool.
“You girls ready?” Mister Molina questioned, looking back at the girl in his backseat and the girl next to him. The two nodded excitedly before the man started the car again and drove off to go and pick up Carrie and Flynn.
The closer they got to the Orpheum, the more scared Violet got. It had gotten to the point where her outfit didn’t feel right anymore and she felt like her makeup had already melted off. This plan wasn’t going to go the way they wanted and Violet knew this. Something was going to go wrong.
“We’re here,” Ray said in a sing-song voice as he stopped the car. “I’m picking you girls up when it’s over, yeah? Julie, keep  your phone close and your friends closer, okay?”
“Yes, dad,” Julie replied with an eye roll before planting a kiss to her father’s cheek and getting out of the car with the girls.
The wait in line was agonizing. So agonizing that Violet didn’t even participate in the excited conversation the girls were having about this concert. They clearly looked forward to it more than Violet did. But that might have been because their life didn’t depend on it.
“You got this,” Julie mumbled in Violet’s ear as her fingers laced through hers in an attempt to calm the girl’s nerves as they waited at the front row for the boys to get on the stage.
Violet had barely noticed that they had gotten to the front. Everything felt so hazy and unreal, like all of this was just a dream. But then the lights turned out and bright flashes lit up the stage as a guitar riff zoomed through the venue’s speakers.
Soon thereafter, Luke’s voice followed the sound of the drums, guitars and bass, and the entire crowd went completely insane as they sang along and danced around to the music the boys were creating on the stage.
“Take off Last stop Countdown till we blast open the top”
“Face first Full charge Electric hammer to the heart”
“Clocks move forward But we don't get older, no Kept on climbing Till our stars collided”
“And all the times we fell behind Were just the keys to paradise”
This was, thankfully, the one song Violet had had on repeat while she was getting ready and so, she knew the lyrics to the chorus. Softly, she sang along with Luke while keeping her eyes on all four of the boys.
“Don't look down 'Cause we're still rising Up right now And even if we Hit the ground We'll still fly Keep dreaming like we'll live forever But live it like it's now or never”
The more songs they sang, the looser Violet became and the less nervous, too. Though she had never thought she was ever going to see these boys on a stage together, she felt a sense of pride rushing through her. She was proud of Bobby, mostly, since she had the closest bond with him. In her universe, she had never seen him this confident, this happy while being in the center of attention. For the first time in knowing Bobby, she actually found him a little attractive, but she would never tell him that. Or Carrie, for that matter.
“Okay,” Luke panted into the microphone as they finished playing In Your Starlight, one of Violet’s new favorite songs. “We have one last song for you guys before we head out. This is a new one that will soon be released as a single for our next album…” The crowd cheered loudly for him and the chuckle that echoed through the venue did something to Violet that she couldn’t quite place. “This is called Livin’ on a High Wire.” Luke stepped back from the microphone and played a sick guitar riff whilst Bobby walked behind the keyboard to his left.
Alex joined in with his drums at the same time Bobby’s voice floated through the speakers.
“Listen up This is the story on how we lived The glory of what we did It started when we were kids With music up in our heads We said”
Violet’s eyes were wide and her jaw dropped when she heard Bobby rap the verse. Bobby Wilson could rap and she had no clue. As quickly as she got surprised by this new revelation, Luke’s voice woke her up and did something to her insides.
“I've been out on the edge Breathin' a little bit of fresh air Big dreams, I took a chance Held out for everything I got here I've been feeling this life's a circus Hanging on without a fear”
Reggie and Alex joined in on the chorus, bringing the whole thing together and the whole crowd jumping to this song they didn’t know quite yet.
“Livin' on a high wire Runnin' through a wildfire You can't shake me, I'm not going nowhere Walking on a tight rope No net, high hopes Step back, I'm gonna make it over”
“Na na na na na na na na na Livin' on a high wire Na na na na na na na na na Livin' on a high wire”
Then, Bobby came in again with his rapping. This whole show had been slapping Violet with surprises left, right and center. Never did she think she would actually enjoy watching a concert by a band that didn’t even exist in her world anymore.
“This is the story on how we lived The glory of what we did It started when we were kids With music up in our heads We said”
Luke took his turn again when his eyes landed on the girl in the front row. She wasn’t quite moving, just her head flicking back and forth from him to Bobby and back. Sometimes, her eyes would land on Reggie, but most times, they were on him or Bobby. He smiled and his confidence got fuelled.
“Big top, turning round, no clowns I'm running as I hit the ground Front row, big show sold out So I'm ready for the crowd roar, let's go I've been feeling this life's a circus Hanging on without a fear”
“Livin' on a high wire Runnin' through a wildfire You can't shake me, I'm not going nowhere Walking on a tight rope No net, high hopes Step back, I'm gonna make it over”
By now, the crowd knew the words to the post-chorus and everyone sang along with them. Everyone except Violet. She had no clue what to do. Her nerves about the whole plan had vanished, but she was overwhelmed with all the things happening on the stage.
“Na na na na na na na na na Livin' on a high wire Na na na na na na na na na Livin' on a high wire”
Bobby grabbed the microphone from its stand as he stopped playing the keyboard and instead, moved towards the edge of the stage where his sister and friends were standing. He rapped the bridge like an absolute pro.
“When it comes to the beat Seeing that the heads are moving Move off your seat Achievement is what we're really doing Freedom of speech I'm in it just to win it I'm springin' and I can see it In the end that you can be it 'Cause it's patience, it's statements Famous greatness Movin' 'til you make it through And maybe you can make it too”
Bobby returned to his keyboard whilst Luke moved towards Reggie. Together and in the same microphone, Luke and Reggie sang the chorus with just Bobby playing on his keyboard.
“Livin' on a high wire You can't shake me, I'm not going nowhere Walking on a tight rope”
Alex joined back in with the drums, as did Luke and Reggie on their instruments while Luke retreated to his own microphone.
“No net, high hopes Step back, I'm gonna make it over”
Reggie’s high note echoed through Violet’s bones as the other three continued singing the post-chorus with the crowd backing them up ear-piercingly loud.
“Na na na na na na na na na Livin' on a high wire Na na na na na na na na na Livin' on a high wire Yeah, yeah Na na na na na na na na na Livin' on a high wire”
The last notes floated through the space before the audience burst into loud applause. Violet was stumped. She didn’t know what to do. She was so overwhelmed with everything that had happened in front of her. From hearing Now or Never to the new song just now, she felt an immense sense of pride and attraction to both Luke and Bobby. She didn’t know what to do with all of that information.
“Thank you, LA! We’ve been Sunset Curve!” Luke yelled into the microphone and stole another glance at the girl in the front row. She was still overwhelmed and didn’t move a muscle. Not even when her friends tried to shake her out of it. He chuckled as he noticed Carrie and Julie as one of her friends trying to bring the girl back with both feet to the ground.
As he took a step towards the wings, he took another glance and then it dawned on him. He knew that girl from somewhere but he couldn’t quite put a finger on it from where.
“Did you see that?!” Flynn yelled as the lights turned back on and the post-concert adrenaline buzzed through the venue. Her hands clasped at Violet’s arm, squeezing it in excitement. “Luke couldn’t keep his eyes off you!”
Violet scoffed. “He probably just thought what a complete weirdo I was, staring up at them in utter shock of how good they actually are.” She involuntarily rolled her eyes at her own behavior. It felt weird. Feeling proud of those boys up there. Feeling attracted to someone she just saw as a brother. It all felt weird.
“Let’s go say hi!” Carrie squeaked and pulled at Violet’s hand towards the side entrance that led to the backstage area. The nerves she felt beforehand came bubbling back and she could feel herself pulling back from Carrie.
Violet usually never felt this nervous. For nothing. She could perform in front of a good hundred people but meeting this one boy? That was just too much to handle for her.
The girls approached the band as they returned their instruments to the tech guys and excitedly chatted about the gig they had just done flawlessly. While Carrie’s smile widened, Violet’s nerves grew until they settled in her stomach and she felt like hurling.
“Hey guys!” Carrie greeted with a smile and immediately went to hug her brother.
“Aaah! Little Wilson!” Alex exclaimed excitedly before hugging the blonde girl as well.
Bobby looked at Violet while his sister went to hug the others. “Hey Violet,” he said, capturing the nervous girl’s attention. “Long time no see.”
Violet managed a smile and a deep breath in to gather all her courage. “Hey Bobbers,” she greeted and wrapped her arms around him as well since Julie and Flynn were hugging the others too. It must be a thing they did…
“Bobbers?” Bobby chuckled. “You haven’t called me Bobbers in ages. Are you okay?” he joked as they pulled away.
Violet’s mouth opened and closed as she thought of something to say but nothing came out. Thankfully, Carrie was confident and herself enough to jump in and save her. “She was just feeling nostalgic, bro. It’s been a while since we’ve seen you.”
The girls exchanged a quick smile before Reggie interrupted their conversation. “You’ve changed your style, Violet,” he pointed out. “I quite like it. It’s more rock-chick.”
A heat surged to her cheeks as she looked down at the outfit she had chosen and wondered how much different the other Violet dressed. Judging from everything she’s heard, it was very different.
“That’s why I didn’t recognize you...” Luke mumbled, the epiphany causing his lips to curl up into a smile. “Y-you look great, Dawson.” If Violet didn’t know any better, she’d say he was a bit flustered. The thought of getting Luke Patterson all flustered gave her at least a tiny boost in her confidence.
“Well, I wouldn’t expect you to, ya big rockstar,” Violet said sassily and flicked her hair over her shoulder. The confidence dripped from her lips and body, and her friends could all see it. The three of them exchanged glances before Carrie took the lead.
“You big rockstars got some time for common folk like us? Maybe we could get some food at Chubbie’s?” she suggested with her always charming smile. The boys exchanged glances, silently agreeing to go ahead with this suggestion.
“We do wanna get a shower first,” Alex then said, “But we’ll meet you at Chubbie’s in a few, yeah?” The girls nodded and each group turned another direction. Flynn and Julie wrapped an arm around Violet while Carrie wrapped hers around Julie.
Giggling, Flynn whisper-shouted, “And now we know the real reason why Luke couldn’t keep his eyes off you!”
“And that is?” Violet asked, though her cheeks already tinted pink. She knew the answer to this one, she just didn’t believe it.
Her three friends let out a loud laugh. “Because he thinks you’re hot, of course!” Julie cackled. “Rightfully so!” Violet’s cheeks felt as hot as the sun as her friends giggled at the fact that a boy was into their friend. Their plan was working.
The girls had taken a booth at the back of the diner, far away from any prying customers that might recognize the boys, who arrived about a milkshake and a half later.
Luke and Alex squeezed in with Flynn and Julie while Reggie and Bobby slid into the booth on Violet’s and Carrie’s side. Of course they made it so Luke and Violet were as close to each other as possible.
As the conversation flowed from life on the road to life in Los Feliz, Violet couldn’t help but notice Luke’s stares and glances. Not for one second could Luke take his eyes off of the girl. They were glued to her. But it didn’t make her that nervous anymore. Instead, it fuelled her confidence. Their plan was actually working.
“So, Violet,” Luke started when the laughter about something Flynn had said to Reggie died down. “What do you do in life?” he asked and all four girls let out a collective “uhm”.
“Well….” Violet dug through her brain to find something that sounded enough like their Violet to be true while still sounding remotely cool. “I’ve been… Working on a lot of music and, you know… going to school and stuff.”
While the boys looked at her with interest, the girls gave her cautious looks, hoping that, whatever came out of that girl’s mouth, would make sense for their Violet and didn’t give away that she might not be the Violet they used to know.
“We wouldn’t know,” Reggie responded and lifted his arm to rest on the back of the couch, behind Violet’s head. “We dropped out of school,” he whispered in her ear with a smirk on his face.
Violet wasn’t used to this behavior from Reggie. In her universe, Reggie was the dorky one. He was sweet and kind and kind of clumsy and not the brightest tool in the shed. He was the himbo-est of himbos. Not this confident, flirty dude that tactically placed his arm behind a girl's head.
“But you’re into making music?” Luke asked, completely dismissing Reggie’s flirty behavior. Violet nodded her head as she sipped from her strawberry milkshake. “I would love to see some of your work…. Maybe we could get together sometime?”
Violet nearly choked on her milkshake, but quickly recovered herself and wiped the splash of milkshake from her lip, making sure Luke noticed the action. “Yeah, who knows… Maybe… If you’re not too busy with your rockstar life, that is.”
The others around them stared at the two as though they had just said something insanely controversial. Jaws were dropped and eyes were either wide or narrowed in suspicion.
Before anyone could say anything, Julie’s phone ringing cut any of those possibilities away. Though each of them would like to know what was going on between the two of them. Luke was being more flirty than ever and Violet was more confident than ever before. Something didn’t quite add up here.
“Yeah, we’re at Chubbie’s, dad,” Julie said into her phone. “Okay! Yeah, see ya in a bit!” The girl hung up the phone and looked up at the group. “Dad’s gonna be here in a few minutes,” she informed them.
“I’m gonna go for a wee, then,” Carrie announced and Violet, Reggie and Bobby all stood up so the girl could slide out. Before Violet could take a seat again, Carrie grabbed her by the wrist. “You’re coming with me.”
“Okay,” Violet mumbled and let her best friend lead her towards the restrooms. “What’s this all about?” she asked.
“I need a wee,” Carrie told her and disappeared into one of the stalls. “But also, what was that between you and Luke?!”
Violet shrugged before turning to the mirror. She fixed her hair and a bit of her run-out lipstick whilst speaking. “I’m playing hard-to-get… Kinda? I guess?”
“You think that’s gonna work?”
“It seems to be working. Didn’t you see the way he looked at me? He’s into me, I think.”
Carrie flushed and exited the stall, looking straight into Violet’s eyes. “And are you?”
“No,” Violet defended. “It’s all for the plan.”
The blonde girl heaved in a deep breath and started washing her hands. “I hope it is. I don’t wanna see you hurt again.” Violet’s brow furrowed, but figured it had probably something to do with the universe-thing and decided not to ask about it. Instead, she followed Carrie out the door after she had washed and dried her hands.
When the girls returned to the booth, Flynn and Julie were already climbing out of the booth, along with the boys. Ray had probably already arrived at the diner and they were just waiting for them.
“You’re coming home tonight?” Carrie asked her brother as he took her in for a hug.
He hummed. “Yep. For a few weeks, at least.” He pressed a kiss to her temple, breaking away from her. “But I gotta help get the equipment back in the rehearsal studio first. So, I might be late.”
Carrie nodded her head in understanding before saying goodbye to the other boys. The other three girls did the same and as Julie and Flynn followed behind Carrie, Luke held Violet back for a moment.
“Don’t be a stranger, yeah?” he licked his lips and let his eyes fall down to her mouth. “You can take me up on that offer to work on some music together…”
Violet smiled and nodded her head. “Sure,” she said and teasingly let her eyesight fall on Luke’s lips before turning around and running after the other girls. This was going to be a whole new adventure and all Violet wanted to know was how it was going to end. For her. For the boys and her friends. But mostly, with Luke.

“I finished my song,” Carrie said the second she opened the door for the Dirty Candy girls. Not even a “hello” or “welcome, come in!”, just straight to the point.
Chuckling, Violet and the girls made their way through the door, following behind Carrie as she dashed into the music room where she grabbed a guitar and handed it to Violet. Seeing the confused look on her best friend’s face, Carrie explained, “I can’t play guitar.”
Violet nodded, now understanding why there was a guitar being thrusted into her hands, and then leaned over the piano wing where Carrie had placed her songbook. “She’s So Gone” was written in beautiful cursive at the very top of the page.
“Bobby wrote down the chords,” Carrie said, pointing at where Bobby had scribbled down the chords and when to play them. Violet placed her fingers on the strings and slowly made her way through them. Once she had them down, she sped up until the right melody floated through the music room.
Then, Violet stopped playing, a smile plastered on her face. “You wanna play this tomorrow at the gig?” she asked. It made her extremely happy Carrie wanted to branch out on their music genre. This song sounded a lot more like the music Violet made with the girls in her universe.
“I think we should,” said Kayla. Violet glanced at the other girls, who were nodding their heads in agreement. “I can play bass,” the purple candy then added, which surprised Violet a little. She wouldn’t peg Kayla for a bass player.
“I can play keys,” Sophia threw in, raising her hand with a nonchalant shrug.
Cynthia glanced at each girl before speaking up, “I can’t play any instrument, but I’m willing to learn?”
Violet felt an excited bubble burst in her chest. She loved how well they got on now and how willing they were to change along with the situation. “I’ll teach ya,” she said, placing a hand on Cynthia’s shoulder. “And I’ve got drums.”
Sharing an excited squeal, the girls immediately got to work. Violet taught Cynthia the song on guitar, which she picked up rather quickly. The song came together smoothly to the point where it sounded flawless. Not only was it pretty epic Dirty Candy turned into a rock band, the song itself was amazing. Carrie had done a splendid job.
That night, Violet sent a text message to Luke, feeling the urge to talk to him about the day she’d had. It felt weird not getting to see him every day now, but the boys knew about Dirty Candy making up and how Violet was going to dip her toes in each band for as long as she could.
“I’m so excited about the gig tomorrow!” she typed and sent the message before plopping down on her bed on her back, staring at the ceiling once again while staring at the ceiling. This fluttery feeling in the pit of her stomach felt familiar, but she couldn’t quite place it. Was it nerves for tomorrow? Or was it being able to talk to Luke again?
“Wanna FaceTime? I wanna see your face :)” Luke’s reply read. Violet turned onto her stomach and tapped away on her phone, calling Luke’s number on the FaceTime app. Within seconds, the boy’s face appeared on her small phone screen.
“Hi!” she greeted with a smile that reached her ears while that same fluttery feeling coursed through her body.
“Hey!” Luke said back, “I missed you at the studio today,” he pouted.
Violet mimicked his facial expression. “I’m sorry… I’ll be all yours after tomorrow’s gig.” The words tumbled out of her mouth without permission of her brain, causing her to slightly cringe at the choice of words.
“Good! Violet Sunset isn’t complete without you,” he mumbled, averting his eyes from the screen.
Violet shrugged, “Violet Sunset without Violet is still a sunset,” she joked, causing Luke to let out a chuckle. “Will you come to the Dirty Candy gig though?” she plucked at the plush teddy bear on her bed, averting her eyes from Luke as she didn’t want him to see the desperateness in her eyes.
“I wouldn’t miss it for the world,” he replied with a beaming smile. “What does the setlist look like?” he asked, genuinely interested in the band Violet had been in since forever.
A smile crept its way to Violet’s face as she talked him through their gig and everything that had happened that day. She told him Dirty Candy was going to go another route tomorrow, but she didn’t give away any of the details as she didn’t want to take away the surprise from him.
The two of them talked the entire night until Violet fell asleep. It wasn’t that late, but she had been rehearsing with the girls for an entire day and she was worn-out. Luke smiled at the sight of a sleeping Violet on his screen. The feelings he’d had for her years ago were reemerging, he was certain of it. Something felt different about her this time though, but he couldn’t put a finger on what it was. The sensitivity. Her unbridled ambition. Her kindness. This wasn’t like the same Violet that started Dirty Candy a few years ago. This was a completely different version. Better, in his opinion. Different, but better.
-
The Moxie Theater was packed with adoring Dirty Candy fans. From kids they knew from school to a few Middle Schoolers that had been their biggest fans since the band had started. Violet’s nerves were through the roof when she peeked from behind the curtains. There were a lot more people than at the Open Mic Night at Chubbie’s underground club.
But then her eyes landed on a group of familiar faces. Everyone was here. Bobby, Alex, Reggie, Julie, Flynn. Even Willie had come to cheer her on. Though most importantly, Luke was there and when their eyes locked, he shot her a smile. “You got this,” he mouthed, which was enough to give Violet the confidence she needed to go on.
“Ready, girls?” Valentina, the showrunner, asked the band.
Carrie glanced at the nervous ball of a best friend and reached for the girl’s hand, squeezing it reassuringly before replying, “Ready!”. Valentina dashed off, saying something into her headset while the five girls got ready, center stage.
The curtains opened and a spotlight shone on Carrie as she stood in her beginning pose.
“Whenever I walk in the room,” Carrie started, along with the music while they started dancing. Though there was a knot in Violet’s belly, she pushed through it and eventually, by the second song, she had found her source of confidence.
Whether it was inside her or because of the smiles and winks she earned from Luke, was up for debate. But it worked. She didn’t feel nervous anymore and was actually having fun.
After song four, the girls ran off stage and while the intermission song played – an instrumental version of WOW – the girls quickly changed outfits while the showrunners put their instruments at the ready.
This was it. The moment of truth. The big test for their fans to see which version of Dirty Candy they liked best.
Dressed in black leather pants, a black tank top and biker boots, with only their wigs as a pop of color, the girls headed back out. The crowd cheered and applauded while Violet took a seat behind the drums that had the Dirty Candy logo pasted on the bass drum and the rest of them took their respective instruments.
“Good evening, Los Angeles!” Carrie called out into her microphone. “I hope you don’t mind, but we’re going to try something new tonight! A different route, a different side of Dirty Candy… I hope you like this song, this is She’s So Gone.”
Violet counted them in and, exactly like they rehearsed, the girls started playing their instruments. The crowd could tell this was a completely different genre than the one they were used to. Everyone seemed surprised and delighted, which acted as the fuel to Carrie’s fire as she started singing.
“Insecure in her skin Like a puppet, a girl on a string Broke away Learned to fly If you want her back, gotta let her shine”
Violet couldn’t help but smile a little. Her best friend was finally showing the world who she really was. And it wasn’t in the Little Me kind of way, vulnerable and broken. But in a confident, “here I am” kind of way.
“So it looks like the joke's on you 'Cause, the girl that you thought you knew”
The music sped up a little and Violet felt herself getting swept away in the moment. Her head banged along with the beats she was creating while taking care of backing vocals for Carrie’s chorus.
“She's so gone (she's so gone) That's so over now She's so gone (she's so gone) You won't find her around You can look but you won't see The girl I used to be 'Cause she, she's so gone”
They slowed down a little again and while Carrie’s voice grew stronger along with her confidence, Violet sang along with her. Her eyes landed on Luke for a second, who was bobbing his head along with a smirk on his face as he kept an eye on his drummer girl.
“Here I am, this is me And I'm stronger than you ever thought I'd be Are you shocked? Are you mad? That you're missing out on who I really am”
Violet winked at Luke before launching herself back into the pre-chorus and chorus with Carrie and the other girls. She hadn’t even noticed the rest of the crowd going absolutely wild over the song.
“Now it looks like the joke's on you 'Cause, the girl that you thought you knew”
“She's so gone (she's so gone) That's so over now She's so gone (she's so gone) You won't find her around You can look but you won't see The girl I used to be 'Cause she She's so gone away like history She's so gone Baby, this is me, yeah”
The girls stopped playing for a second, creating a bit of suspense before launching back into the chorus, stronger and more powerful than before. The adrenaline was coursing through everyone’s veins.
“She's so gone (she's so gone) That's so over now She's so gone (she's so gone) You won't find her around You can look but you won't see The girl I used to be 'Cause she, she's so gone (she's so gone)”
The crowd cheered loudly for Carrie’s high notes, rightfully so. The girl sounded amazing. Flawless. Perfect. So strong and confident. This was Violet’s favorite side of Carrie.
“She's so gone (she's so gone) You can look but you won't see The girl I used to be 'Cause she, she's so gone Gone, gone, gone”
The applause and cheers were deafening. This was the feeling Violet loved. This was why she did what she did and it made her wonder why she had refused to get on a stage for so long. It was crazy how the crowd felt exactly what the girls were feeling. A mutual sense of empowerment, of confidence, of happiness. It was phenomenal.
With smiles on their faces, the girls lapsed into a next song, led by their instruments. The new Dirty Candy was born and everyone seemed to be digging it, especially Dirty Candy themselves.
As the girls filed off the stage after their last song, Alex’s eyes landed on his best friend beside him. A smirk fell onto his lips as he said, “Wipe that lovesick grin off your face before she gets here, Patterson.”
Tumblr media
“Hey,” Luke said, stopping Violet in her tracks before she could get out of his car. “Thank you, for today, and everything. I couldn’t have done that without you.”
Violet smiled at him and let go of a breath she didn’t know she was holding. “I’m glad I could be of help,” she said and leaned in to press a kiss to Luke’s cheek. “And I’m glad you made up with your parents. – See you around, Lukas.” She opened the door of the car and got out while Luke watched her all the way up to the front door.
He smiled the entire time. He couldn’t stop. Even on the way back to Beverly Hills, when Violet was entirely out of sight, he was still smiling. And of course, his friends had to comment about that lovesick smile that rested on his lips.
“What’s gotten you so chipper?” Bobby asked, smiling at the smiling Luke.
Alex and Reggie chuckled at the same time, “Or rather, who?” they said in unison, earning a surprised glance from one another, one that said jinx!
A red hue spread across Luke’s cheeks. “Violet went to my parents’ house with me,” he explained, trying to ignore the fact that his face looked as red as a tomato. “We’ve made up and had dinner together, with Violet…”
Reggie let out an excited squeal. “Do you think she’ll finally dump that Marcus of hers? I mean – no offense to the guy, he’s pretty cool but… You two fit so much better together!”
Alex was nodding his head in agreement while Bobby’s eyebrows pinched together. “Don’t you guys find it weird how she’s changed all of a sudden? She was never this way, meddling in our lives, being here almost twenty-four seven? She didn’t even dare to speak to any of us at one point because Luke had broken her heart.”
“I apologized for that,” Luke shrugged while he made his way to the kitchen. “We’re good friends now and it’s fun making music with her.”
“Yeah, but… She’s a completely different version of herself. You can’t tell me all of that changed while we were on tour?” Bobby reasoned, rubbing his chin with his hand in thought. It reminded him that he needed a shave as well. Not being on the road meant he didn’t quite care about that stuff, he didn’t need to look all clean-shaven and freshly showered.
“You’re just jealous that she’s into Luke now instead of you,” Alex noted. “And besides, a person can change over the course of six months. She just found her confidence, that’s all. And finally as well, that girl is hella talented!”
Reggie frowned at Alex. “I’ve never heard you use the word ‘hella’.”
“Violet says it a lot,” he shrugged and turned back to Bobby and Luke, who re-emerged from the kitchen with a glass of water and a brownie Violet and Carrie had baked in their kitchen a few days back.
“You really can’t see the problem here?!” Bobby exclaimed out of frustration. “Something isn’t adding up and if you guys won’t help me find out what it is, I’ll do it myself!” Like a toddler, Bobby stormed off, leaving the three boys stunned.
“He must be bored during our hiatus,” Reggie noted and stretched his limbs before getting up from the couch. “Now I want some of those ViCarrie brownies you got, Luke…” he mumbled and started making his way to the kitchen until Luke stopped him.
With his mouth full of brownie, he mumbled, “You’re too late for that,” and walked off to the rehearsal studio, snickering devilishly. What he didn’t see was Reggie’s offended look on his face. His jaw had dropped and his eyes were bulging out of their sockets. It had left Alex cackling on the couch, bemused by his friends’ antics.
The house had felt a lot lighter since Violet and Carrie had become more involved in their lives. He loved it. It almost made him want to be his true self, say ‘fuck you’ to management and go out with Willie like he’d always dreamed of. But better not… He better stick to the status quo.
-
Violet sat on her bed with her laptop in her lap, her fingers hovering over the keyboard. They were waiting. Waiting for her brain to tell them what to do. Though her brain wasn’t certain. She had the sudden urge to browse back to Parallels.com, the blog of that girl who had been in the same situation as she was, years ago.
But that idea quickly faded when her window slid up and a tall, handsome boy climbed through. A smile tugged at Violet’s lips as she scrambled off her bed and approached the boy she had come to love.
Wrapping her arms around his neck, Violet leaned up to press a kiss to his lips. “Hey handsome,” she greeted, beaming up at him whilst his arms snaked around her waist before he dipped down to kiss her again.
“Hi beautiful,” he said. “Did you have a good day?”
Violet took hold of his hand and guided him towards her bed. “The best! The song we wrote for Luke was a hit! Everyone loved it, especially Luke! And then we went to visit his parents and they made up and it was the most beautiful thing I ever witnessed!” Violet sounded like an excited child on their way to Disney World. “And then we stayed for dinner and Emily – that’s Luke’s mom – made this banging lasagna and they told me all about Luke’s childhood and how they knew music would always be his passion as he used to perform on table tops at family parties. Can you imagine a tiny Luke, on the table, singing his little heart out? It’s the cutest…” Violet trailed off as she noticed the change in Marcus’ behavior. He went from smiling widely, looking at her with those warm gorgeous orbs to frowning, eyes watering.
“You okay, bubs?” she asked, gliding her fingers through his hair until her hand landed on his shoulder. “Did you have a good day?”
“Are you sure you and Luke are just friends?” he asked, solemnly.
Violet puffed out a breath. “Yeah, of course,” she said, though the words tugged on her heartstrings. “Luke and I are just friends. I have you, don’t I?”
Marcus looked up at Violet. His eyes were cold, they didn’t exude their usual warmth. “Yeah, but do you love me? Because I think you’re actually in love with Luke…” He hung his head down low again. The sadness and vulnerability that came off the otherwise confident and happy guy felt like a punch in the gut to Violet.
A lump formed in Violet’s throat. She had been thinking those things for a while but that was all they were; thoughts. Right now, those words had been spoken out loud and it scared her.
It scared her because they were true.
“No, I do love you, Marcus,” she said, and it was true. She had come to love Marcus. A lot. She just wasn’t sure if she was in love with him.
Tears had started to gather in the corners of her eyes, getting ready to make their way down her cheeks soon enough. It took Marcus looking at her with tears running down his cheeks for her tears to do the same.
“I love you, Marcus Baker,” she whispered and tried to pull him closer, but he held back.
He sniffled and patted her leg twice. “And I love you, Violet Dawson. Just not in the same way. You’re not in love with me. You’re in love with Luke, Bubs… You should be with him, not me.” He wiped his nose on the back of his hand before rising from the bed.
Violet needed a moment to process everything. Had she just lost one of the greatest guys that ever graced this planet? She had. And it hurt like a mother– But he was right. About everything. She wasn’t in love with Marcus. She was in love with Luke.
“I’m sorry I can’t give you what you deserve,” she mumbled when Marcus had one leg out the window. “You deserve more.”
Marcus smiled a watery smile and the all seemed okay in the world. “So do you, Violet. Goodbye, love.”
“Goodbye,” she whispered and he was gone.
He was really gone. Out of her life. But never out of her heart.
-
“Oh, look,” Carrie said, amused as her brother breezed into the backyard. “My brother’s home for once,” she joked before turning back to the book she was reading while tanning at the pool. It was Beach Read, a book Violet had recommended to her.
“Cut the crap and tell me what’s going on with Violet?!”
Carrie stilted for a moment and slowly lifted her eyes back up to her brother. There were no words coming out of her mouth, though there were a whole bunch flitting through her brain. She wanted to shout at him that he had no business in that while at the same time, wanting to tell him the whole truth and nothing but the truth.
“Something’s going on with Violet?” she finally settled on, trying to play the nonchalant card.
“Yes!” Bobby cried. “She’s a completely different person since we’ve gotten back from tour! She’s confident, she performs as though she didn’t have the incident a few years ago! None of those things scream Violet to me! Not the Violet that I know!”
Carrie shrugged. “She changed.”
Bobby was having none of it, however. “No! She can’t just change in an instant! We were gone a few months and suddenly she’s the girl Luke has always wanted her to be? Something isn’t adding up here!”
“You’re seeing things, Robert,” Carrie said, shaking her head before hiking her legs up to rest the book against them so she could continue to read but as she turned back to the page, another person appeared into the corner of her eye.
She lifted her head back up, only to find a completely broken and sobbing Violet. She looked so fragile, so sad. She had completely folded in on herself as tears ran down her cheeks, leaving streaks of mascara in their wake.
Carrie sprang up from the lounge chair and rushed over to her best friend before she could collapse. The sobs were taking so much of her energy, she could barely stand up straight. Stroking her hair, Carrie soothed her best friend. She had no clue what had happened, but it must’ve been bad if she was so affected by it.
“Marcus and I –” Violet sobbed and Carrie didn’t need to know anything more. She knew what had happened. Or at least the gist of it. She knew enough to know just how broken and sad her best friend is right now.
Bobby’s meltdown from before could wait. It had to wait. At least until she could come up with a decent excuse for what had been happening this entire time. Or until she could come up with the courage to tell him the truth.
