creative rant but ken's in there
my obstacles when i want to make work more involved than a scribble is usually i have no subject/i have no story + I Can't (either because of skill or lack of creativity).
With the introduction of Ken as a subject I like a lot, I've had to Think about this again. I get invested when I make an oc (rare) (this happened with talon) to the point of constant drawings for a bit, but I'm never moved to do anything More.
My ocs dont ever have coherent backgrounds bc im not creative or a good writer etc. Though I've Wanted to i cant make an illustration about Talon or Al etc. They dont have solid Themes or Symbols or Meaning that I can make beautiful symbolic pieces of
Wit Ken I've been similarly and adjacently moved...i wanna make beautiful illustrations of him, but I still can't due to lack of creativity lol... im bad at composition and color and background elements of any kind... Etc
But I've found Entry to other things. Like. I wanna make zines, and I know ppl make em about Anything, but that's what makes it hard. I don't have an Anything to create about. This is the first time ive been like no yeah actually i think i could make a zine about ken i have several categories of feelings about and toward him. With him.
It's a really good blend, since just writing about my feelings for a zine would be boring and just feels strange, writing about my oc's would be boring because who knows em? They're not anything. But feelings as expressed through an existing character? Really good genre. I get it now.
So i. Kinda understand More now? But I'm still stuck bc i dont have. The creativity. And also now I'm in this pit of sadness like man. That zine thing clicked for me, now that I finally have something I like enough to connect those dots with.
I wish I more often liked Anything or felt closeness to anything of this category, so that I could be more inspired to create.
But I dont! I dont often enjoy or relate to much media. And if I do it's never to the point of obsession that Drives the artist to Make and Make and Make. (Though like I said, even if I had that...like in the case of my OCs...I still can't Make lol, bc my brain doesnt work)
And I've yet to start living my life so I cant draw from experiences either.
I'm a doomed creative, still. I'm drawing with no motive or meaning or feeling behind my work, and it sucks. Oh well.

beelze.. as someone who recently got into transformers.. where should i start? im thinking about picking up mtmte
Hi Omen!!!
That's a really good question, because TF is such a behemoth when it comes to it's content, there are so many continuities that you really can pick any of them up and go with it! If you're interested in the comics, picking up MTMTE i think is a good way to get acquainted with the idw1 continuity - it takes place after the events of many other comics and goes in parallel with Robots in Disguise, so i think it's good to read them hand in hand, personally. From what I remember, any plot relevant information they provide as well from the word of other characters, so you don't have to worry too much about the fact that you don't know stuff that happened before, if anything it might spark you interest to check it out later!
If I had to personally tell where to start with the comics, talking about idw1, there are three massive phases of their comics before the 2019 reboot - war, post-war, and the third one I don't remember and i havent gotten to it yet, so cant say for sure. All these phase collections are available on readcomiconline.li, that's where i read em! MTMTE and RID are parts of phase two, subsequently.
When it comes to shows, Transformers Animated is also it's own continuity and is very good and fun! It has three seasons 13 episodes each.
Earthspark from what i know is also a standalone show, so far there's one season, but from what i've seen it's very charming and nice (may be a little cheesy for me personally but i dont mind it)
The original G1 cartoon is also a very good way to start if you're into old silly animation and writing, it will give you a ground to stand on i think when you look into other continuities, cuz ultimately all of them take their root from this show, even if a lot of things have changed and aren't aligned with the G1 cartoon anymore. When you watch it and then look into other things like comics you'll have a moment of "i fucking know what you are" whenever a certain writing choice is made, but its just me FGBSFBV It also comes with a movie!
Aligned continuity wraps a huge mass of different mediums as they've been trying to tell this one solid Transformers story, but as far as I'm aware it didn't work and they stopped trying to do it. It includes the Cybertron trilogy games (can pirate them - if you need a link to where i got the games let me know!), a novel (i think) and then Transformers Prime tv show and its sequel Robots in Disguise 2015. I might be missing something cuz i haven't look into it yet, but personally i don't think it's my favorite continuity so far.
There are many other shows that comics and other things take pieces of inspiration from (Beast wars, unicron trilogy, cyberverse i think? and more) but i haven't looked into those yet and can't vouch for them in any way.
So yea! If you want to start, just pick whatever catches your interest the most and you can go from there! You really don't have to read, watch, or play every piece of tf to get in the groove.

….I can’t believe it took you less than a day. Anyways, I know so little about this show, but do the citizens of Ooo have daemons, or some other form of dust? Given that they aren’t human and all.

a post so i have more space to write. and uh. yeah it is truly so funny. it isnt actually as quick as it seems (ive been turning it over since i finished adventure time like, a week ago?) but still. im a joke and a parody etc etc etc.
anyways! i actually think most people of ooo dont have daemons at all! so lets explain why.
when i write daemon aus, i tend to write dust as a sort of, particle that kind of Exists in the world. it is created by people but it was also there before people and wouldve helped spark the creation of people, in a like, 'oh having a way to interact w this particle is really useful to do x y z, lets evolve to use it!' obvi im not a scientist and the details vary but this is how i sort of tend to see it as a baseline!
so, from there, all species that are. sapient? pretty sure sapient is the word, they all interact and connect to dust in some way. this can be via visual cues (actually perceiving it and its patterns) but mostly its through some other way, like how humans have daemons.
so, in ooo, humans do still have daemons! its just. theyre the only ones.
as for everyone else, they are all, somehow, connected to dust! they all have to be, its just a lot of them dont have daemons because nuclear war, magic bullshit, etc etc. im not 100% on all the lore behind the show but i imagine that The World Fucking Up drastically changed the way sapient species interact with dust. i like the idea that all magic-users are able to use magic bc magic is just interacting directly with dust and getting it to do what you want, so their connection to dust is just, magic. and to get there you lose whatever previous connection you might've had.
most people probably have something else. i think you could get real creative with it. i dont have answers for most people <3 i think you could give species daemon LIKE things, but i'd make em sightly different. not sure. how yet. plants? can't change shape? various things to do with range? specific places? some sort of hivemind? theres a lot of ways you can take it and none of my ideas would focus on that bc thats too close to making a whole au and im like. nah. im focusing on some MINI!! ARCS!! with a limited cast of characters!
as for people i DO have answers for....
marceline had a daemon, being a vampire fucked with that for a while. post-stakes she gets her daemon back.
finn has a daemon and theyre doing totally fine lol.
fern probably had a "daemon" but it was less daemon more another plant construct that was more just him than two people split across two bodies. he finds this out and Doesnt Take It Well.
simon has a daemon. ice king doesnt. simon doesnt get his daemon back upon being de-ice kinged. this is very bad for his mental health.
ditto for betty when she becomes magic betty. golbetty is doing great. they're together in there. no idk what that looks like.
jake has Something. not a daemon. no idea what. but he for sure has a tangible thing. prooooobly same for lady but she also might get magic-user rules and can see dust but this is just chill for her vs most magic users who get there by losing something along the way.
bmo is a computer. i dont think he has a tangible daemon but i think he's got something.
bubblegum has the whole mother gum thing so i imagine thats sort of like, a static place she visits sometimes. or maybe something with neddy??? whatever it is she doesnt have anything that like, follows her around or is on her person.
the candy people since theyre made by pb basically just have a whole mess of things she thought were interesting to experiment with. so there are candy daemons.
i think flame princess has something closer to a daemon than not but they arent a daemon. i'd need to do more research into. fire.
fionna's daemon is cake <3 before the events of the miniseries they Do Not Know This so it manifests as fionna bringing her cat literally everywhere, cake being way too smart for a cat, and neither of them thinking this is weird in any other way. (everyone around them is very freaked out <3)
nobody else in the fionna and cake universe have daemons or anything like it.
fionna: wait are you telling me you dont share dreams with your cat?? don't telepathically communicate with your cat?
everyone around her: what the fuck are you talking about--
and thats what ive got whoo! for basic ideas. more detailed plots are for the stakes mini-arc + fionna and cake since i think theres an interesting story there, but thats not for this post.

umbrella - i assume this doesnt need an answer for both of them, bcuz they belong 2 the same story. i imagine ian and rammys story being a vidya game, and i guess itd b a psychological horror? which feels like, pretentious to say but the main scaries of the story are how much ians life sucks and he wants 2 die. so... i think itd count. thats all overarching stuff tho... most of ian n rammys time spent together is lightheared, i think. theyre two dudes hanging out and one of them is slowly coming to terms with the fact his suicidal thoughts won. whatever genre that is
pencil - WAHHH it depends a lot of the time... ian and rammy have definitely made a big resurgence in my brain recently (past month) bc im 18 and can post bout em, but also just cuz i love them sooo much and want to chew on them constantly. id say i write abt/draw them pretty frequently tho!! i doodle them on my school work and in notebooks a lot and they have some of the bigger galleries on my toyhouse lawl. i dont write much directly for their universe, but ive typed... many paragraphs to my friends just braindumping the shit i think about them. so, yeah, less often than id like, but theyre up there in my priorities of ocs :3
apple (for ian) - GRAHHHHHHHHHHH u dont know what demons uve unleashed w this. i already twed this post for suicide but im gonna move this part under the cut bc mentioning ians dad specifically ties a lot into the suicide aspect of the story
OKAY SO. ians family consists of his mom, sister, and him. his dad was in the picture when he was a little kid, like early elementary age, but ditched after some time. his relationship with both parents was relatively normal, they definitely couldve done a better job raising him, but they were never intentionally hurtful nor did they scar him at all. (well, correction, his MOM didnt scar him at all)
after ians dad left, though, his side of the family still kept in touch... they gave very flimsy reasonings for his fathers absence, why he couldnt make it to holidays, why he wasnt saying all these things directly, etc. it kept things strained and tense as the family knew things were being kept from them but never got to know why. the last interaction ian ever had w his dads side of the family was on his 18th birthday, where his uncle gifted him a silver handgun with his name carved into the handle. it was a hollow attempt to connect with ian, a display of violent masculinity that ian would later use to try and take his own life.
i dont have it fully figured out what this *means* for ians character, but its something i go insane about. ians only memories of his dad are him doing stereotypical masculine dad things w him, like fishing. maybe he didnt interact w ian ass if he was his child, but if he was his son, and that improper socialization is part of the reason he hates himself- why the gun is what kills him. but... i dunno really. ians social anxiety, addiction, and general collapsing in on himself are cuz of a life time of mental illness that went unchecked until he successfully isolated himself to the point no one *could* care, not just cuz daddy give him gun.
okay! that is NOT what u asked at all but now u know it. hehehe. of course ian and rammys story is a big wip forever so excuse me for any side tangents and/or general plot points w loose ends
but! as for his actual relationships w family (ill include sister since his relationship w mom isnt rlly fleshed out yet):
he and his mom havent spoken in 6 years, nor have he and his sister. he slowly faded out of their lives when he moved away, partly out of a subconscious desire to isolate and partly due to just not having the social confidence or energy to maintain regular communication w his family. his mom is the first person he talks to when he escapes his Puter, and she's his rock in his remaining months of recovery. shes very underdeveloped as a character atm, but what is certain is she tries her hardest to understand her sons struggles and support him, offering to pay for therapy for him. ian loves his mommy lalala
ian and his sister are... dddifferent. ian also had an average relationship w his sister, but shes a lot more upfront with him when it comes to talking about how his 6 year absence effected her than their mom. their mom, while wanting her children to seek help for their respective struggles, doesnt really want to actively talk about those things with them. shes terrified of saying the wrong thing, and it doesnt help that she doesnt even have a clue what *to* say. ians sister, though, isnt afraid to tell him "hey man we fucking missed you. your absence hurt a lot because i didnt have any friends either, and i wish we couldve had eachother. jackass" post main-story they are friendly and hang out. during his time w rammy, ian does talk about his thoughts on his sister before he left, that being that shes a "crazy bitch"... family <3

Y'know, I've always been very dissapointed in Toma's route, mostly because he is a very interesting character with potential. So, because I clearly know him better than the writers/hj, I'm gonna write down some thoughts I have, spoilers below the cut, this is gonna be long, this is honestly just my rambling because i like talking about this. TW for like literally everything Toma does in canon. Although I dont think I talk abt it much.
So, Toma, this fandom is at a stalemate with him. On one hand he's this doting older brother figure and on the other he's an absolute insane yandere that has commited way too many crimes to count. But, honestly? Those things could coexist quite well if THE CREATORS ACTUALLY CARED ENOUGH- I digress.
Anyways so if you think about it, what are the features of an older brother figure in anime? Kind, thoughtful, and protective right? Now what about yanderes? Protective, possessive, and clingy. Don't those traits sound similar to an older brother figure?
Yanderes are essentially, older sibling figures taken to an extreme also minus the thoughtfulness. Wouldn't Toma's route be much more interesting if he started toeing the lines between them? Blurring the lines between protectiveness and possessiveness? Actions that make you think, "Maybe he was in the right after all?" Even actions that are morally dubious? This could have potential!
Y'know how Konosuba had stereotypical characters but they were amped up to ten? Darkness being like a sacrificial older sister but also the most masochisty masochist of all time? Megumin being a hyper younger sister to the point of blowing stuff up as a hobby? Aqua being a tsundere but just really annoying?
Taking traits and amping them up by 11 to make something else can be interesting! But no the creators really just wanted him to have 2 personalities or something.

He's also a bit of an extremist, like why does he throw the heroine in a cage? Why is he roofiying her with almost no remorse? Is he just taking extreme measures for an extreme situation? What if he was always willing to do anything to protect his lil siblings but he just tooks measures according to the situation? And since normally people don't try to murder his loved ones, he doesn't do anything extreme. But to truly reflect that nature of his, it shouldn't be like, he only went yandere once. I think it would be interesting if he did do something similar before, not this extreme but definitely standing on the line. Maybe this is how the heroine would realize his protective nature and truly get obsessed with him before the amnesia thing.

You know, for someone that says he cares about Shin, he never shows it? Favorite child much? But there was a very interesting side plot in Heart route where he envied/hated yet still cared about Shin. He hated him for having the heroine but still left town so he'd never hurt them again. He even defends Shin against Mine's nasty rumors about his father. That has potential, but I do feel its kinda cliche to pit em against each other but eh it's an otome.
I would've liked to see Toma show more concern towards Shin, hell even act a little more possessive. In a platonic way that is, but I just want to see that childhood love extend out to him. When he coldly threatened Shin in Diamond route I was like damn 💀Are you sure you like him? For the situation I mentioned 1 section earlier, I feel as if Shin would be the perfect subject to it. The heroine seeing how truly possessive he can get and getting kind of clingy. For when it happens I would be entirely sure? I would say when they're still impressionable kids but I rather not drag them into it as minors.

You also have the paranoia aspect of Toma, he's careful, calculating, planning. And that's just how he was raised, since he wanted to take care of Shin and the heroine, of course he'd need to make sure nothing can hurt them. As a result he trusts no one, he feels as if he can't trust anyone to do anything, because he needs to do it. But I've heard this before and it goes something like this, without trust, love means nothing, sure you could pamper and give the person you love everything, but if you don't trust them? It's empty, you aren't trusting them with your life. Or something like that. Meaning if he can't even see the heroine as her own person with agency and thinking he has to take care of her, is that really love?
It could honestly make for a good arc of his, learning to open up and let the heroine grow. So that he can truly love her. What he has is an infatuation if you think about it.

Then there's a guilt aspect to him, he does all these horrible things and sure he puts up a front, but he also feels guilty too, so in an attempt to get rid of it, he says he's justified. Now keep in mind, if he was toeing the line between older brother and yandere, it would actually be interesting to pair it up with him thinking he's justified. That way the reader could either side with him or disagree. But no he takes the absolute extremes and after that first roofie he just slammed his case into hell.
Meanwhile Toma in Heart route where after he accidentally bashes the heroine's head into a rock, he just books it. But after Shin and Heroine confront him, he turns himself in and even leaves town! That's responsiblity! Responsibility he never took in his own route!
Yes I admit he probably deserved to go to jail and honestly wtf is wrong with the police why didn't they jail him after he straight up admitted he bashed someone's head into a rock almost killing them.
But honestly I think that's on the police at that point, he turned himself in and left town so he could never hurt them again. Sure he only did that after he got caught but eh, you take what you get. And in the normal ending of Diamond route he gets caught and leaves town, which seems like the most ideal ending. So why is his good ending so unsatisfying like that? Why take away his humility and humanity?

An interesting thing I noticed in Diamond route, why is it the only route where the heroine was majoring in psychology? IIRC that is, haven't seen it in a while so I'm ranting from memory, tell me in the comments if I'm wrong. Isn't it an interesting coincidence that that is the only route where she majors in psych and then you have someone like Toma? Could it be a possibility that Toma had always been like this, and the heroine just wanted to understand him more? Maybe even help? It would also add to the fact that she was crazy obsessed with him, not in a yandere way just the fact that she still loved him even after he put her through all that. Also isn't it funny that he's a law student even though he just commited like 10 crimes? Hahahahhaha stupid mf, I think it would be interesting if those subjects made a presence in the route. I don't know much about psychology or law so i won't dabble here, but I do take suggestions.

Last little note abt the law thing, at first glance you'd think hes a kind guy, loyal and protecting to his loved ones, maybe he wants to extend that protection to the common masses? Defending the innocent or prosecuting the guilty. It really does seem like a Toma thing to do. And then diamond route hits like a bus.

Gona put a Spoiler alert on this one for “Take My Arms That I Might Reach You”.
Hey so I’m back (the person who asked about the time measurement in “Take My Arms”) to say I absolutely loved the rest of the fic. I really enjoyed the character development both Techno and Phil went through throughout the fic and getting to see the way they both end up together terrorizing the bigots of the desert was wonderful. Was sobbing at the part where Phil died had me fighting back tears cause I was absolutely reading this at work. Just the visual you painted in my head of Techno putting Phil’s body in the bedroll was the breaking point. I was like 90% Phil was gona come back, but still it got to me. The world building you did in the Ebony plane was incredible! I love a good info dump and Kristin’s explanation of the magic and spirits tied everything together so well. And oooooo the Quackity/Techno flashbacks. Man Techno really did a number on him! But I like that they still became tentative friends after all was said and done. You asked what my thoughts were on Chapter 18 and I’ll be honest, I’m a bit confused on that but cause there’s a chapter 18 and then one labeled eighteenth, so I’m gona roll em together. I pretty much knew early on in the fic that Techno was also had wings. It was pretty obvious (at least to me) with the fact that he had a voice talking to him since Phil had the same thing, even if he ignores it. Still, the reveal was fantastic! And the way Techno used his own curse to get on Phil’s level and try to calm him down and let him know he was okay, he wasn’t going to hate him was so sweet. Ah! I could go on and on about all the little details I loved about the fic, but those are the major things I loved about it. Sorry it took so long to get back to this, life went and lived and my brain has been a bit fried lately so it been hard to put thoughts into words. But you’re a wonderful writer and I will definitely be coming back to reread this fic again in the future, as well as keeping an eye on your other fics (see you have a new one out, haven’t gotten to it yet again because life). im soooo glad u loved the fic!! character development my beloved, that was one of my big things i wanted to achieve with this fic, having a distinct but still believable development of the characters, and to show how that development happened even when it wasnt going quite so great. patpat i am hugging u but also hell yeah i rlly wanted that moment to have a big emotional impact esp since it was planned from like. the very start lol.

trying to watch a playtrough of ultra despair girls was genuinely agonizing and i stopped watching after . that guy was introduced and i refuse to keep watching it . i mean. maybey its on purpose .. create larger despair to create even larger hope whatever but also i dont really care.
a million paragraphs of complaint under the cut, this got really long
1. starting off really quickly with the petty complaint that doesnt matter, but the playthrough i was watching was a terrible dub. the voice acting is incomprehensibly bad i dont know how someone could say these lines and think they did a good job . id be so embarrassed.
2. a major character is toko fukawa/genocide jack, which she is that horrible 'split personality' trope with the 'evil psycho killer' alter. which that was introduced in the first game but its still agonizing to have to see this . lawl <- said with disappointed agony. and the writers obviously know, i mean look at these screenshots i took of a dialogue scene
its . incomprehensible to acknowledge this yet still continue to write the character this way. i mean, knowing anything about that awful anime, they clearly have no qualms with making retcons. and other things that are frustrating about this is that information that the game has about DID in the first game (trigger happy havoc) and this game, is actually very accurate. for the most part, they use a lot of correct terminology and seem to generally understand how DID works. and yet they still use these harmful and unrealistic tropes that hurt real systems.
3. i didnt finish it of course so i dont fully know but the way they handle it but from what ive seen, they dont really handle the topic of child abuse well. considering the whole plot is "abused children rise up and start hunting adults for sport" <- i was also amazed at how absolutely ridiculous bullshit this plot is.
4. ................................ haiji. i dont know what to say there. the entire concept of this makes me upset beyond comprehension. they introduce some character, the 'leader of the resistance' and i also feel so betrayed because i really liked his character design and was interested in his character. and then i searched him up really quick to send a picture to the friend i was talking to about this and immediately learned that apparently he is a pedophile and abuser. and that apparently the leader of the murderous children is his young abused half-sister, who he would physically assault, and ended up being the reason she is a paralytic wheelchair user. and not to mention that journal that is found in a locker and read before meeting his character, which is eventually heavily implied to be his. huge content warning for graphic depictions of violence.
"Devils. They're devils in the bodies of children. Damn devils! I want to grind down your organs, your heart, your liver, your kidneys, everything, into dust. I want to throw you all into a blender and turn you to sloshy livestock feed. I want to stab your eyeballs with a pencil until I can write with your blood. I want to boil you alive in a pressure cooker until your screams stop. I want to squeeze your little bodies until blood leaks from every pore on your skin. I want to slash open the wombs of the mothers that birthed you and stuff you back in."
and what i mean by its heavily implied to be his is that when talking to him after reading that journal, there is an emphasized part where he refers to the kids as devils.
and also the scene where he openly admits to being a pedophile, specifically he told toko that hes not sexually interested in her, or komaru, because "I... I like 'em younger. As young as possible."
5. tokos design in this game gave her paler skin than in the first game she was in.
6. everything else. i dont know how to list every little thing, especially since i havent watched all of it. there is a scene where (theyre like elementary schoolers by the way) monaca forces nagisa to kiss her, against his will, verbally sexually assaulting him, breaking his spirit to force him to do whatever she wants. which is all shown .
there is so much that is so genuinely horrible and impossible to watch.

And re: sexualities, I’ll say the ones that are just a couple fun facts that I wanna share. Not to say that anyone NOT mentioned is being hidden for spoiler reasons, though. Just wanted to mention these.
Applejack is married to her work *wink*. She doesn’t think about romance. She’s ???????
Braeburn is bisexual with a lean towards women.
Strawberry is also bisexual but with a lean towards men.
Big Mac is straight, but if he were to fall for a guy he’d just shrug and accept it haha.
Apple Bloom is non-labeling. She’s still figuring herself out!
Apple Cinnamon (remember him?) is straight, but he’s trans! It’s super DUPER vaguely implied in the few times he’s been mentioned so far but he’s been planned this way since the beginning. I wrote it in my notebook!
Appleby and her wife Brown Betty are… well they’re lesbians, lol. They’ve been mentioned like once so far. But they’re in my Reins notebook lol. They have a daughter! Liberty Belle, she’s biologically Betty’s. They live in Appleoosa with Braeburn, but we didn’t get to meet ‘em yet.
The Apples are a super diverse family! Haha, pretty much all accepting as can be. Though some of ‘em are accepting in a “ehhh not my business” kind of way. We all have those.

ats is better than btvs dont let the fact that im posting this on april 1st give u any wrong ideas i am one hundred percent serious about this
FIRST OF ALL who needs stories about women and queerness when you can have stories about big men saving tiny women except sometimes he doesnt successfully save tiny woman and then he has to be sad about it :(((((((((((
SECOND OF ALL btvs wastes all this time developing its women characters' arcs based on who they are as independent people and their psyches when it would have been way more efficient to just build their story arcs out of how they fit into the lives of the men around them. it just saves time. and isnt that what you want from a story? to just get in and out as soon as possible?
THIRD OF ALL it's insane to me that btvs doesnt even find time for One mystical pregnancy plotline??? it's just such an obvious fantasy show trope and it feels like they dont even respect the genre to not include it, like ats does it ??? what? 5 times? 6? which is a sign of what a mature show it is, that it keeps revisiting this theme to give it new layers of meaning (about how women should be punished for existing. obviously).
FOURTH OF ALL ats just improves on all btvs characters who cross over. first of all, putting faith in prison? where she Belongs??? was a brilliant point. btvs as a show is far too loose and radical with the law. ats makes a firm stand that crime is crime and should be punished ideally with well-funded and cruel judicial systems. and buffy? i know she's barely on the show but i think her two brief windows on ats are better than all of her portrayals on all of btvs. like, buffy is just so much more interesting to me as a symbolic representation of angel's angst than she is on her own terms, and i think ats really understands that. not to mention how much better spike is on ats. he can really get back to his roots as a comic relief character. which is such a better use for him than trying to make him a romantic lead. i mean spike?? a romantic lead??????? insane and yet another reason btvs doesnt have rights.
FIFTH OF ALL it just has such complex plotting. btvs would never have the guts to do a full memory wipe of an entire person from the other characters' minds as it enters its final season and then never really touch on what that means for them or how it's affected their relationships with each other. like, btvs was way heavy-handed foreshadowing dawn's existence and then spending all this unnecessary time in s5 working through how dawn's existence impacts buffy's psyche. ats doing a much more understated approach of hardly ever mentioning connor at all in s5 or considering how his absence would impact things is a way more mature form of storytelling :))) like, it's show don't tell. that's writing school day one.
SIXTH OF ALL i just think btvs is really reverse-misogynist at a certain point. it's like, by the time we get to the late seasons there's basically no men on the cast? ats really balances that out and makes sure we're getting men's perspectives in storytelling :) which is something really lacking from media :) that plus all the time they spend on a gay relationship when it's like,, why do we have to make a whole thing about how willow and tara are gay? isnt that reducing them to their queerness??? isnt it actually far more progressive to work like ats, and kind of vaguely imply lorne is gay with the everything about him but never actually say so and blatantly contradict it in dialogue? just to keep 'em guessing, you know. the last thing you want is for a show to be obvious
my only gripe with ats is that they bother building up side characters when it should be much more focused on angel himself. like literally who cares about characters like fred or gunn or lorne or lilah? i think it would have been a much tighter show if they had just focused on classically grizzled and complex male protagonists like angel and wesley and lindsey. none of them got nearly enough screentime or attention paid to their development. i mean thank god they killed off cordy and fred by mystical pregnancy and stopped paying attention to gunn and lorne's characters in ways that made sense and wrote lilah off to be replaced with a discount lilah who didnt matter for the final season? so we could really spend time with the characters who matter? but like, they could have done that way sooner

literally the idea for this prompt has been turning over in my head like a rotisserie chicken for 4 months. i dont know if im happy with it, exactly -- somehow in my weekly ritual of writing it in my head, they were in character, and it did something, but now that its on the proverbial page im unsure -- but im happy that i finally wrote it. lil bit eye emoji at the end lol. thanks for indulging my year long niche barely canon obsession em <3
Sarah wakes up needing badly to pee and with one hand going numb where it’s tucked under her neck.
God but she feels stiff. Her body holds an awkwardness to it -- that numb hand -- that she realizes, remembers, very quickly is because it has forgotten how to rest in a bed with another person.
Well. Sarah has two growing babies and they have faced many difficult years. She’s shared a bed through the night plenty. Sharing a bed with children and sharing a bed with an adult man are two very different things.
She lets herself breathe, deeply in through her nose, and out, purposeful in the release of tension, then turns her head over to look at him. Bucky is fast asleep still. Something in her heart flips at the thought. Even yesterday -- their first full night -- he’d woke up before her. Five hours max, he always says, with a loose tilt to his mouth. Sometimes he means it as a teasing reminder; other times it is more self deprecating. She argues him on this just as she argues that he shouldn’t go around feeling hungry simply because his body endures. She has won on the food front. Seven uninterrupted hours remains contested. Sarah can plan four meals a day in a way she can’t plan night terrors.
She’s never woken up to the sight of him sleeping before.
Something about how early it is, or maybe how recently she’s been well-loved, has her thinking sentimental thoughts. He’s beautiful stretched out here beside her. He is pressed face-first into the pillow he brought up from the den and shirtless, so recently entirely unselfconscious about it. Bucky looks at once always far younger and far older than she’d expect. Sarah can see the slack tilt of soft lips and one round cheek, pink from the warmth of their bed, and the softened crow’s feet around his eyes. His dark hair is darker in the blue light of pre-dawn and mussed at the top, yet greying at the temples. His right shoulder, bare, pale, and thick with muscle, shifts minutely up and down with each breath. She counts two freckles. She sees the edge of a scar over his far scapula and the gentle frown creasing between his brows and the awkward way he has moved his left arm beneath himself, away, out of sight.
It can’t be comfortable. That pulls at something anxious with early-morning confusion in Sarah’s stomach.
On the floor on the bed’s other side there is a sleeping bag laid out in case. For always, couples have been sleeping together through the night. Sarah ascribes maybe more meaning to it than is deserved. It is so tentative, this place they have arrived. She knows that she can’t rely on it the way she might want to. The way it is so easy to imagine -- every night, just like this, for the rest of always, slowly becoming more and more at ease with the shape of each other until no limbs are carefully held.
She looks down. Between them lays Bucky’s right hand, loose and curled in sleep, and just beside it lays hers. Two light-skinned digits are still extended to curve around her thumb. She remembers now: he’d pulled her close just before falling asleep, and linked fingers.
Sarah turns as quietly as she is able to look up at the ceiling and brings her free hand up to lay against her throat. Something tender wells in her stomach that she has not felt in a long while. Then she gets up, because the practical needs of her bladder refuse to be ignored.
In the bathroom she pulls her underwear down to her ankles and stretches her numb fingers out while she goes about her business. She can see herself in the mirror and she sees her puffy eyes and drooping breasts and the cracked skin around her heels. She sees other things too. That bead necklace at her throat Cass and AJ gave her last week as a mother’s day present, delicate enough in its hand-made shape that it makes her neck look slender. The fact that even half-asleep she is looking gentler around the edges, though that might just be weight gain. The deep blue of the silk wrap covering her hair, so vibrant she is sure it must be the most expensive thing she’s ever owned. It was left quietly for her on the bathroom counter almost six months ago now and is the same shade as a dress she once saw Lady Nakia wear on TV. Even after half a year into a relationship Bucky had still blushed at her thank you.
She’s not sure at what point plain old Sarah Wilson’s life got stretched out to meet the rest of the crazy, fast-moving world. Or maybe the world was brought to her doorstep one day, ready to take and give so much at the same time. Sarah is coping as best she can. It’s easier to do that, when you have other people around, she thinks. When you have someone willing to stay long-term in your bed, and put in the work needed for that to be possible, and leave thoughtful, useful, beautiful things on the most mundane of your house’s mundane counters.
Sarah gets up. She adjusts the droop of her bonnet and tugs at the hem of her ratty t-shirt. She knows by moving at all she’ll have woken him up. Still, she hopes a little that maybe he’ll still be knocked out upon re-entry. Lord knows both of them deserve a couple more hours. And this peace they have that feels so fragile sometimes, they deserve that too.
When she crawls back onto the bed the birds have started chirping softly outside the bedroom window. Bucky’s eyes are wide open. The cat is there.
“Hey handsome,” Sarah whispers. She gets beneath the covers, scootches her way down ‘til she’s feeling comfortable, and remains sitting up. “Miss Alpine.”
Alpine is stretched out in the spot where their hands rested before and looking very self satisfied. Sarah must have forgotten to close the door properly last night. In front of her Bucky’s eyes are big, still tinged with the process of coming back to himself, but he has unearthed his left arm, and is absently stroking the cat’s tail.
“Hi,” he says finally. Sarah leans down and kisses his jaw because she can. “Sarah.” His voice is slurred and gravelly with sleep.
“Yeah.”
“I made it another night?”
“We made it another night,” she says, and settles herself back down while he scoops Alpine up and deposits her gently at the foot of the bed. There’s a shift, a dip, and she feels him roll over and wind his arms around her. His hands slip under her shirt to cup her breasts and then simply stay there. She bites back a grin at the sigh of contentment he gives.
“All settled in?” she says, humour in her own sleepy voice.
“Mmm,” he sighs. “I love these.”
Perhaps on the heels of her bathroom self-scrutiny Sarah feels a laugh bubble out of her, and the need to cover her face with one hand as it emerges, loud and snorting in their quiet bedroom. She and her stretched out, work worn boobs; at least her legs haven’t gotten any shorter since high school. But he does, in that simple way men do when they love the rest of you too. His scruffy face presses against the back of her neck. She can feel the undemanding warmth of morning arousal against the small of her back, and hear the nearly-silent electromagnetic whir of his prosthetic, heavy and powerful at her waist. She brings a leg up to tangle around his.
“That cat of yours best not sit on my head anytime pre-seven am,” Sarah says.
She is already half-planning the day. AJ has soccer practice in the afternoon.
“No ma’am,” Bucky murmurs.
AJ has soccer practice, and Bucky has to drive down to the NOLA military base on a favour to Colonel Rhodes. But he is here now, in her bed, and it is morning. Sarah lets out a long hard sigh of relief, closing her eyes, and behind her, he does, too.

So, imagine you... A young pretty little thing that’s fresh out of college and is looking for a job but you’re just this awkward little ball of sunshine that keeps messing everything up.
You never even go out of your apartment unless it’s for an interview, even then, you so dread those stuff.

A knock forces you away from your laptop. You open the door to find a man staring down at you with a friendly smile.

“I locked myself out of my apartment and I tried talking to the office but I guess they’re already out. Not because of his boyish cute smile but because the idea of a stranger being with you just doesn’t sit right.
But it would be more awkward to deny him now, would it?
“It’ll be as if I wasn’t here. I promise. Just need somewhere to spend the night. I mean I can sleep by my door but that would be--”

“that sounds like a great idea, baby! i’ve gotta go take care of some science stuff, so i’ll pick up some s’mores stuff while i’m out. love you!”
yeah she went to go see thor and he kinda got arrested but your mom came back home so you could watch the stars!

then thor and selvig came home and selvig was drunk as a skunk

by the time you guys were done, it was 3am and you were too pumped to go to sleep
so thor told you stories of his home and battle and family
you didn’t want him to stop, you were fascinated by it all
and uhhhh yeah then earth kinda had some vikings show up
they told you that you’d “make a fine warrior one day”
and then yall got attacked by a ????? a what??? a destroyer???????
“get y/n out of here now! they shouldn’t have to see this!” -thor
you were still nearby and saw thor become thor again
after he was done fighting the destroyer, you ran to give him a hug
“that was awesome! can i hold your hammer?”
“maybe someday, little one”
then you didn’t see him for 2 years
which upset your mom a good bit, you had to help her through that episode. lots of sitting on the couch and eating ice cream together talking about how he wasn’t worth her time even tho you missed him too
but he came back! and then your mom sent everything flying bc she had an “infinity stone” inside her and thor took you two to asgard
“y/n! you’ve grown so much, i almost didn’t recognize you!” -thor
tbh you really digged the outfit they gave you, but also you were on another planet? thor insisted on giving you a tour (by flying you around)
“i do hope you’re having fun, little one!”
worrying about your mom simultaneously bc you overheard she was sick
but asgard got attacked and you and jane were confined to a room in the palace, which sucked because you wanted to see it all
but thor sent guards to bring you anything to keep you entertained
“maybe we’ll skip the mace for now, thank you” -jane
after several events that count as child endangerment, this chapter came to an end and your mom and thor finally made it official
loki called you a rodent and then saved your life so you were kinda iffy about him
about a year or two later, your mom had to travel a great deal in order to get some work done, so you were left in the care of thor, who took you to avengers tower
“oh, my girlfriend’s child is an angel! and they’re so intelligent, just like their mother!” -thor gushing to other partygoers
“yeah, thor, your ‘angel’ is sneaking drinks from the elderly” -tony
*sipping his beer* “they’re a growing teenager”
you did have an amazing time interacting with the avengers
and once they tried grabbing the hammer, you knew you had to get in on it (but you failed like the rest)
“don’t worry, my y/n, you have to be eighteen years of age to be able to lift mjölnir!” -thor
“oh, that makes sense!” -you, while thor aggressively shakes his head at the other avengers. he just wanted to make sure you didn’t feel bad you weren’t worthy yet :(
more child endangerment but really what did you expect?
thor went off world and your mom split it off w him but you did have his email so you were still in contact with him
swearing you saw odin on the street once or twice (fast forward)
and then your mom dusted and thor found you as soon as he possibly could, it was so good to see him
he took you in since you were alone now, you moved to new asgard and became prince(ss) of the new land by relation?? makes sense right
basically you and valkyrie made all the calls while thor grieved for years
but he still took care of you
“y/n, would you like to play video games with me? i think it may be a good bonding experience, what do you say?” -thor
“duh!”
uncle korg made you help him with fortnite while thor was asleep
you wished to wield stormbreaker one day
showing thor earth media! his favorite star wars character is r2-d2 dont ask why
he taught you asgardian recipes and you taught him...earth recipes?
when he was drunk he’d ramble on about his childhood and battle and enemies and jane and loki and hela and frigga and literally anything that came to mind
“y/n, could you please get me a beer? and get one for yourself, too” -thor
valkyrie most definitely gave you some battle training so you you blow off some steam, you were glad she taught you how to fight like a true warrior
thor wanted to teach you battle tactics so you could fight alongside him, but he never got around to it
a raccoon and bruce banner visited later on, proposing a way to get your family back, thor was an emotional wreck
his debriefing on the reality stone was tense when he started crying about your mom and everyone stared at you
“hey, don’t look at me. i don’t control the god, i just keep him company”
ending up waiting 1 second for the avengers to come back from their mission, resulting in you being stuck in the middle of a very heavy battle
“y/n, get out of here!” -thor
“don’t worry, thor! valkyrie taught me a few moves!”
“you make me incredibly proud, little one!”
“i’m not so little anymore, am i?”
“you will always be my little one, y/n. blood or not, that will not change!”
victory, but at what cost? it was a rough ride, you needed to get patched up, but your mom was finally home and thor...he decided it was time to leave earth again
“don’t worry, my y/n. i will see you again.” *tearing up* “i’m so glad i got the pleasure of raising you these past few years. i love you dearly, now go be with your mother”
you straight up wanted to bawl your eyes out right there
“well, y/n, you’re next in line for the throne of new asgard. what is your first command?” -valkyrie
“actually, i think you’d make a much better ruler than me. i’ve got to spend some time with my mother now that she’s home”
“you’re so much like him, you know that?”
staying with your mother, who was diagnosed with cancer not long after returning from the soul stone (a/n: jane getting cancer is canon in the comics and confirmed for thor 4)
“i missed five years of your life and now i’m sick, that’s just our luck, isn’t it?” -jane
she was understandably upset, but she also felt guilty
“mom, don’t beat yourself up. everything is okay, we’re still together right now. i won’t be going anywhere, i promise”
