a/n Hi! First of all thank you so much for this lovely request, it was an utter pleasure to write and I really enjoyed it and I hope you will too! I'm always a sucker for canon fics because it's so fun to take the show we all know and love and hate sometimes bc mnet kinda shady and write about it. I've lifted lines directly from the sleepover segment from episode 12, just be citing my sources. I definitely would have included reader/ mc/ y/n's pov but ended up keeping it to jay's pov for some reason, idk maybe it's like writer brain. If anyone wants a "your pov" version, do let me know~ that would be a fun part 2

Jay tips his head back and exaggerates his cringe, laughing along with everyone at Gunwook stealing Junhyeon’s aegyo. Only he can’t help but let his eyes linger back to you giggling quietly from where you’re leaning against Hoetaek, the elder playing with your hair.

And even if he knows that Hoetaek is a little more familiar with the former Cube trainees like you and Matthew and Sung Hanbin, he can’t help but feel the smallest twinge of jealousy. He wanted to be close to you like that, to mess with your hair until you pout at him and he can’t help but-

“By all means, keep staring, we might as well get a neon sign that says I LIKE YOU and put it on your head.”

Kamden mumbles from beside him, effectively snapping him out of his maladaptive daydreaming.

“Oh my god dude, shut up.”

He hisses, still keeping one eye on you as you lean into Hoetaek’s touch. Think positive, Jay. Even if you're also a fellow English speaker, at least you’re far away enough that you probably won’t overhear them. Ricky snickers from his other side.

“You’re so subtle, man.”

He levels them a look. It’s their last night, can’t he get a break?

“It’s our last night Jay, you know, you should tell them.”

Apparently not.

He looks up and Kamden manages to look even more unimpressed than he usually does, head tilting a little more than 45° for emphasis.

“Nah, it’s cool, besides, they’re definitely not into me.”

Jay deflects, ignoring the sinking feeling that begins to take hold.

“You don’t know that.”

“I’m pretty sure I do.”

“Just try.”

“You’re being very persistent today, Kam, I dunno, it’s kinda sus.”

Before Kamden can fire back, the whole conversation about memorable first impressions turns around and bites Jay in the ass because the universe loves messing with him.

“So who was your best first impression, Jay-ah?”

Suddenly everyone’s looking at him expectantly. Kamden and Ricky look like they already know and Jay knows that they know that the answer sitting at the tip of his tongue is just across the room, Hoetaek’s arm around their shoulder. Still, Jay hesitates.

He’s had a crush on you ever since the Star Level test. You had immediately caught his attention walking in. Sure, there were perfect visuals like Jiwoong and Hanbin but you were the most attractive person he’s ever seen. And you were talented, Jay could swear your performance was one of the best but Kamden’s convinced that he’s just biased.

But even though you’re both from G-group, you’ve always ended up in different teams, leaving Jay with not that many opportunities to talk with you. When he does end up around you, he just can’t, defaulting to his usual over the top expressions for laughs. While he’s always thought of himself as a confident person, he just finds himself fumbling around you. It doesn’t help that you seem to stick to Hoetaek or Sung Hanbin or one of your team members. You’re friendly with each other, sure, but nothing more than that.

Right, back to the question.

“The person I remember the most is Yujin.”

He immediately feels the collective disappointment that emanates from his corner of the room as the rest of the trainees react, Matthew even sitting up to hit him with some bombastic side-eye. He pretends he doesn’t hear Kamden sighs, doing an impression of Yujin which looks more like a possession honestly. The others laugh. Jongwoo’s comment is the crutch he needs to limp away as he holds Yujin in check as competition.

Of course, it wouldn’t be that easy.

“For me, as soon as I heard Jay sing, I felt like I was in trouble.”

Hoetaek speaks up and Jay forces himself into another exaggerated look of surprise and shoves down the ugly feeling that jumps out at the way you hug one of Hoetaek’s arms.

“Your competitor?” One of them jokes.

Not just in singing, Jay thinks.

“But you did watch Love Me Right, hyung?” Jongwoo asks. Jay really wants this conversation to move on.

“It was so hard to watch Love Me Right.” He watches as Hoetaek shifts so that you can lean more comfortably.

“That’s not the only thing that’s hard to watch right now.” Ricky breathes out. Now Kamden and Matthew are snickering.

Just smile, Jay.

“Honestly, I wanted to give up when I saw you, hyung.” He manages to grit out without giving himself away, hopefully.

Everyone laughs and Jay desperately sends a prayer to the universe to let his pain end. Ironically, it’s Kamden and Matthew who come to his rescue.

“Actually, I’m curious about something. Did I give off an American vibe?”

The conversation swerves towards Matthew’s imitation of Kamden, the apparently routine mispronunciation of Jiwoong’s name and Kamden’s impressive first impression of Ricky’s hair.

By the time they move on to Keita’s first meeting with Zhang Hao, Jay thinks he’s in the clear.

He's not.

Kamden proceeds to smack his arm and he meets eyes with Matthew whose usual bright smile was beginning to border on shit-eating grin territory.

“If you didn’t notice, they’ve been looking at you the whole time we were talking.” Kamden says lowly, Matthew nodding in agreement.

“Nah, you’re capping.”

“No, for real, Kam and I were literally right here giving some top-tier content and all they could see was you.” Matthew insisted.

“That doesn’t mean anything.”

“It definitely means something.” Ricky counters because he was apparently listening in on them the whole time while everyone else watched Jiwoong wax poetry over Hao’s violin playing. Jay shakes his head.

“It really doesn’t.”

Kamden looks like he wants to jump on him and start shaking some sense in. Matthew sighs. Ricky just shrugs and lies back down.

“Ah well, we’ll have to see then. I didn’t let Kam slander my hair and my catchphrase for nothing.”

After having to spectate the absolute trainwreck of awkwardness that is Zhang Hao and Kum Junhyeon, there’s the slightest chill that goes down Jay’s spine that he ignores, figuring it must be the weather.

It was definitely not the weather. He should have run while he still had a chance.

“Actually, there’s another pair I want to see.” Matthew speaks up. Suddenly he feels Kamden and Ricky both watching him like hawks as if he’s going to bolt any second now.

After Matthew names you and him, Jay actually wants to bolt. Kamden and Ricky are extremely helpful in explaining to the others the minimal interactions you two have had as the “least close trainees in G-group.” You look like a deer in headlights as Hoetaek gently shoves you towards the middle of the room, whispering something to you before he goes back to his spot.

“Wah they’re both so red.” Jay becomes acutely aware of how much his cheeks are burning as he sits across you. You don’t seem to be any better, making eye contact before looking literally anywhere else.

Well, might as well get over it so he can go back and die of embarrassment.

“Uh, the first time I saw you was during the Star Level test. I thought you were very talented.”

Damn, when did Korean become so hard? Maybe it was the way your hands were holding his, can you feel how fast his pulse is racing? Okay Jay, you can do this, just speedrun it.

“And I really liked the song you performed, it really fit your voice. Your stage outfit was also very pr- very noticeable, it made you stand out. And I really wanted to get to know you more but we were in different groups all the time which really sucked and you don’t know how many times I wished you chose Home so we could perform together or the Star Creators would put us both in Over me and I understand, you’re really perfect for the concepts of your songs and it’s crazy how much I like you, seriously so crazy.”

Pin-drop silence. Three things, in order, that Jay realises.

Speedrunning this might not have been the best idea.

Switching to English midway through the conversation is a skill that he didn’t know he was capable of considering his level of Korean would definitely be more byelingual than actual, intelligent multilingual like Matthew.

He might have confessed his feelings to you. No actually, he did. Fuck, now would be a great time to get on the next plane and fly off to the States and cry to Beomhan for a month. Forget debuting, he’d settle for a nice normal life without the evil editing and the screen time robbing and the utter stress of eliminations.

But before Jay can actually bolt, you speak up.

“Uh- uhm…” You look so unsure that it freezes him there, seated in front of you, holding your hands like it’s his last lifeline.

“I really like you too.”

Everyone gasps and begins murmuring quietly.

“Wait, my English is bad, what are they saying?”

“Finally, they’ve confessed, I knew it.”

“Wait who confessed?”

“That was like an American romance movie, wow.”

Then the clapping starts. Jay tears his eyes away from you for one second to look at Kamden in utter disbelief. His co-conspirators don’t miss a beat.

“Congratulations, you finally did it! Thank fuck.”

“Be happy together, you two!”

And because Ricky apparently wasn’t satisfied with the slander he had put himself through.

“Now kiss.”

Which turned into a chant because even the trainees who didn’t speak English fluently knew what they were talking about. Someone even helpfully throws a blanket over Yujin to protect his eyes.

Jay turns back and finds you giggling. While it looks like embarrassment, now he could feel the way your fingers interlocked with his, your eyes flitting to his lips. The chanting becomes background noise as he leans in, pressing his lips against yours firmly.

Fireworks explode in the background as you pull away.

Everyone applauds with the occasional whistling, oohing as Jay tugs you to sit between his legs, Ricky graciously scooting over to make space.

Kamden claps him on the back and Matthew flashes both of you a thumbs up.

God, he loves hates these guys.

As the conversation settles back down and everyone decides to actually sleep, you sneak another kiss before cuddling up to his side.

Jay smiles. Maybe this is a movie.

What's interesting about ChatGPT is that it's so biased and not in the way you'd think. It's perhaps the monument of what the corporate culture wants the internet to be like. I've tried a lot of LLMs, some have given me quite interesting creative outputs, many are very useful to get sources and resume information, others are very good at roleplaying characters or situations. But ChatGPT itself, the thing that most people think about AI, is fixed like a barnacle towards Customer Support Speech. Which is not surprising giving that's what they're trying to sell them, but when people try to use it for something else (and they do try to use it for EVERYTHING), it shows that it's incredibly restrained by all the filters and who knows what else.

Everything that comes out of it must be Positive. It cannot be negative, of course, but it's not even allowed to be NEUTRAL anything else, it must act, at all times, like everything is sunshine and flowers, and what doesn't is just verbotten. This is what strikes me about it. I CAN'T explain it but it's so suprising that in a short while it has become its own particular thing, ChatGPT Speak, it's like Customer Service Speak but even worse because you're not even allowed neutrality, you have to be Positive. I think a good contrast is when you ask it about something academic. You would expect it to have an encyclopedic and neutral tone, like something out of Wikipedia or a scientific paper. Instead it's always written like someone way, way too eager to please. It's a bit sickening actually, I have the feeling this is what capitalists imagine the perfect employee is like.

And no, this is not an anti-AI rant, don't come at me with that. I've used LLMs for fun, to see what they come up with, and they can be very amazing and engaging, I see plenty of uses (mostly for entertainment as far as I'm concerned). When given the right tweaks and prompts and not a hundred of customer service filters, they are very impressive.

But it's ChatGPT that is this strange thing, so widespread and mediocre. I have a feeling that it will soon be replaced by other models that don't tell you "I'm sorry but writing a rap about Stephen Jay Gould is disrespectful and an act of terrorism." I understand the need for filters and such, otherwise you get something like that AI that learned from twitter users and became a racist, but this thing of flitering everything and boxing everything just reminds me of the wider anglo internet trend on cutting on everything like porn, swearing, and other stuff, just trying to make everything customer friendly sanding all the edges. I hate it.

Which characters in legacyerse are easier for u to write and which one are harder to write

Easiest is Lloyd by a long shot. It's just so effortless and enjoyable to get into his thoughts and how teenagerly exasperated yet childishly impressed by life he is. Plus if he's not saving someone's life with a resounding speech he's building a rocket launcher to nuke someone, and that's just sheer enjoyment. I am very much looking forward to his focus in S2~

Kai was a hard one to get into and I was a little scared of how he'd be received during the pilots, but now I look forward to writing for him! Like Lloyd he's got an easy voice/thought process to get into, it's just also a hard one to nail the nuances of (especially if you make him a crybaby like I have lmaoooo). But once you figure it out his stuff just glides into existence askdhjfglkdsgfd

Cole, Jay, and Zane are a little tricky, because while their mannerisms are easy enough to land, trying to get deeper into their heads when the focus isn't directly on them is actually very difficult. Out of these three though, Jay is perhaps the easiest while Cole and Zane just depend on the scene/moment in time.

I lowkey despise writing Nya, lmaooooo. You don't realize how little there is to work with for her —especially in the earlier seasons— until you try to polish up her character and there's only the bare minimum. A lot of writing Nya is playing "fill in the blanks" which just feels like extra and seemingly unnecessary work, and it becomes super hard to make her character land when it feels like you're drifting farther and father away from what she's presented as...but, that can be a blessing in disguise, so I try not to get too caught up in it. (And I know there's a whole slew of posts on Nya's character writing in the show that I'm sure goes over the reasons why this is such a phenomenon)

As for OCs, Jesse is easy to put into situations but hard to characterize and he takes like seven layers of editting to fine tune I swear to the master, while Olivia's character easily explodes off the page but putting her into a situation requires jumping through so many hoops, so I'd saying writing them is about equal (but Jesse is infinitely more fun I'm not biased)

I'm the anon who said jungwon and Niki are basically equal and that jaywon don't realise they're basically Inlove lol.

I agree completely with your response. I've been watching them since the first single and went back to watch island. I agree about Niki rapping. I thought that was the direction they were pushing him in cause as much as I love him, those vocals were not it for a while there but he's improved so so so much. I think he has a good tune for rapping. Him and heesung would sound good bouncing off each other rapping. Also behind heesung, I think Jays voice is the second best out of the bunch. Sunoo is good too but Jay's is so soothing to me.

About jaywon, just, they're alot lol. It's just so obvious?? And I guess that's what you mean when you say they remind you of jikook. But I feel like they're a bit sweeter than jikook were in the beginning. I feel like jikook was more clumsy with their potential and at times aggressive, even though they moved past that fairly quickly.

But jaywon are so soft?? Jay would literally do anything to keep a smile on jungwon's face. And it was like that from the beginning. When I saw how close they were on iland I was like ??? How long have they known each other? They were so soft.

I don't think jungwon realises it. But I think Jay 100% does but would never make a move. Jungwon would have to and Jay would ask him if he's sure over and over and over. I just love watching them care for each other. You can feel the love. Platonic or no

You know, for a long time I made a conscious decision to not talk about them on my blog. During the very early days when I first fell for them, when everything felt like a headrush. Because I knew I wouldn’t be able to shut up about them lol. I agree with everything you’re saying and a part of me hurts for jaywon especially. They are a lot.

Anyway,

I prefer to focus on the potential of the whole group. Those seven boys are beasts. Absolute monsters. Sunoo? He’s such a snake. A beautiful one, in terms of his features. He’s a real softy but his visual charm is serpentine. I’ve already said who my biases are so you know some of my visual preferences in the group. It’s really easy when every member in the group is a visual.

I swear... I really have the craziest mind but... Reader suddenly gets very self-conscious, as soon as she realizes that she just freaked out in front of anyone that knows her husband... And that she would mumble "Don't look me. I'm about to freak out." "Can you all turn back pretending you never seen me before" "Dad, I know this sounds biased, but please don't try to kill my husbsnd." while blushing as Jason whisper-teasing her as she just meekly hide herself, often talk back like a feisty cat... And she will definitely say this to Alfred, "I know you. Sorry I can't look at you right now, but I want to say this long ago: your cookies are so good that it's the only food I crave when my period come aside from pizza." if Alfred ever approaches Jason and her to tell reader she can stop hiding herself anymore as he makes sure everyone is gone and that he would like the reader to stay for dinner if possible as he gives them times to be alone, and that he would be pretty amused and gives Jason the most approval glances as he looks at reader (who now looking at him) and says "Well. I'm very honored that it helps. Thank you always for enjoying them. And, Master Todd, if you'd once told me it is for your spouse, I might've been willing to teach you the recipe soon." He would definitely smile to himself as he leaves the room and heard reader complaining to Jason saying "That's it. In honor of tech week being next week for my show, I am presenting the JRWI theatre kids.

Harlem just is. He monologues various plays to himself and was his director's absolute favorite leading man. Like, he's a theatre kid no contest.

Have I met Ashe yet? No. But character designs and clips alone tell me that she obviously would be a theatre kid if she went to a normal school. Like, she would so be vibing in the booth or a tech director who does some of the stupidest shit daily but is also more concerned on the safety of people than literally anyone else.

Gillion is one of those kids that were just dragged in one day and never left. The obvious mental illness just fits in so well, not sure what crew he would do but he would be a valued member.

Chip is so on set, and I'm not biased. He would blast some of the absolute worst music and commit OSHA violations hourly. Like he's just in the shop swearing up a storm while getting shit done. Also all set crew members are incredibly depressed.

Jay also does theatre and is just one of the token common sense people, she def is high up in the command chain.

Kian is such a fucking theatre kid. He is one of Those theatre kids but does some of the most banger performances. He is the cast member always seen doing the stupidest shit but is so important.

Kasper holy fucking shit. This bitch is the Biggest theatre kid and just god damn. I do not have to explain this.

Your attention was never on the screen in front of you; in fact, it was on the person lying on your lap. you don't even know what the show was about, and you don't want to know. heeseung just looks too pretty for you to watch on the TV. the way his eyes squinted when the screen was too bright and the way his nose crunched when a certain scene came up was too much for you to handle. you couldn't take it anymore, so you tilted his head and gave him a peck on his nose. heeseung was taken aback by your sudden attack, but he was not going to complain. he took your other hand that was resting on his stomach and kissed it, “do it again” he said against your knuckles.

ON HIS JAWLINE;ㅤjay could never understand your obsession with his jawline. the way you would give it more attention than his lips are making him sick. though he'll never admit it, he likes how your lips glide against his skin, making sure every inch of his jawline doesn't go untouched. he likes the way you randomly grab his jaw and turn it aside just to pamper his jawline.

ON HIS LIPS;ㅤjake was sitting on your bed, playing with his phone while waiting for you to finish getting ready for your date. well, not that you were late, jake decided to come to your apartment earlier, saying that he finished getting ready early. you were almost done with your makeup, you just need to apply your lip gloss. your eyes wandered to the table in front of you, hands moving things that you’ve used or didn’t use to their original places, hoping to see your lip gloss in sight. you look around the room and see the lip gloss on the nightstand beside your table. you let out a sigh of relief, you would cry if it went missing. “baby, can you pass me the lip gloss on the nightstand?”, jake looked up from his phone when he heard you calling him. “yeah sure” jake get up from the bed and reach for the lip gloss before walking to you. he handed you the lip gloss and hugged you from behind. you whispered a 'thank you' to him. as a response, his arms were wrapped around your waist while his lips gave butterflies kisses all over your neck. you apply some gloss on your lips and close it, placing it beside all the products you've used. your hands went to his hands, caressing it slowly. you admire your boyfriend's face in the mirror in front of you, whose eyes are now closed, resting his head against your shoulder, his lips in a pout. those damn lips. you could give a thousand reasons why you love them. you turned around and cupped his face, pecking his lips. the corner of his lips slightly turned upwards. he whispers an 'I love you' before kissing you more passionately.

ON HIS MOLES;ㅤsunghoon didn't really care if someone said that his moles were beautiful in the past, he thought that it was just their way of flirting. but not when he gets to know you. even when he was courting you, he would always catch you staring at his moles. His perspective changed after being in a relationship with you for a while. now, he's looking forward to you kissing his moles, especially during the morning. he would do anything to wake up to you kissing his moles while telling him to wake up.

Ah so Im not so much a movie watcher tbh. I did watch an anime, that does have a movie version too but the anime was My Happy Marriage, there's gonna be season 2 so I have that to look forward too. I wanted to watch another anime, Komi Cant Communicate, so I might just be binging a few animes😂... As with dramas I am very picky about what I watch.

Procrastination is the bread and butter of student life. Any student that says they don't procrastinate are liars I tell you😅... Not your classes causing you to have memory issues🤣🤣....

I was going to watch Lovestruck in the City, it was on my list but I dunno why I never actually watched it😂 I think I read somewhere that it didn't have a happy ending or something, there was a reason I didn't end up watching it. Run On, I did start it but I never finished it... My pickiness with dramas holds true.🤷‍♀️

Im not a manga reader, I stick to fanfiction. I did try to read Yumi's Cells webtoon but I gave up when I saw how long it was and just googled what happens. I haven't watched season 2 yet cause I am waiting on news for season 3... Very much delulu waiting for season 3 of Yumi's Cells (I love Kim Goeun, her + a romantic story and I am there in a heartbeat)
