Handedness in DanAndPhilCrafts - Slime
A documentation and analysis of the hands that Dan and Phil use in the new Crafts video. Obviously some of this stuff is just due to filming and seating angles, but as with so much else about this video, I think some really interesting things can be intuited from it. Sorry if anyone has already done this!
This whole idea came from a post @lesbaurinkos pointing out that Dan - who's left handed - uses his right hand to sacrifice Phil, and comparing it to this exchange from Glitter Faces:
Phil: If you're left handed, ask a friend.
Dan: Why am I left handed?
Phil: Everybody makes mistakes.
This implies that there is something wrong with Dan's left handedness, and I've seen some suggest that this is what leads him to do rituals with his right. Others still say that perhaps this shows a transition of some sort, so that he is not the same person. While these are valid and interesting readings, I'd like to put forward a different theory.
Traditionally, the left hand has been seen as sinister (literally the Latin word for left, while the right was 'dexter'), so one would think that Dan's left handedness would actually be a boon for a Satanic ritual. It's a mark of otherness, of queerness, that was historically punished by a Christian society who saw it as deviant and wicked.
Indeed, it isn't just Dan who uses a hand different from his dominant one for ritualistic practice. Although we don't see Phil make the cut on Dan's hand, when he holds the knife, he holds it in his left hand.
Likewise, once it cuts to the next shot, the knife is at an angle that suggests it having been put down from his left.
Dan's wound is on his right hand, and he uses this hand for many of the ritualistic elements to come, including - while still in Crafts mode - anointing himself and Phil in slime and holding the knife while telling us that He wants it 'straight from the source'.
This might be because his left hand is out of action due to all that blue slime on it. How did that blue slime get there? First, a word on the slime itself.
The two slimes serve different purposes. Dan's slime is intended to be a vessel and Phil's will be 'fun to touch'. Thus, while the red slime is only for Him, I would argue that the blue slime is for Them. After all, creativity is nothing without friendship.
That homoerotic hand grab with Phil - which squishes together the friendship slime, the same colour as Phil's eyes, as Dan points out - represents 'friendship' as the other force alongside Him. In this hand grab, Dan's dominant hand becomes covered in slime, leaving only his non-dominant hand for ritual purposes.
Interestingly, Phil is using his left hand here (his ritual hand), perhaps a sign of their differing priorities. I won't go into too much detail here, but I've seen others make interesting posts about Phil doing things for Him, and Dan doing them for Phil. This isn't too important here, as it's Dan's deliberate choices after this about which hand to use that become particularly interesting.
Indeed, after this, Dan draws the sigils on the walls with his right hand, and he also walks into the room to complete the sacrifice holding the knife in his right hand. If his right hand is his ritual hand, this makes sense.
However, and I haven't seen anyone mention this yet, he leaves the room with it in his left hand.
I think this is fascinating, since - as with the cut in Dan's hand - we don't see what happens between these two shots. We hear Phil scream and assume Dan has stabbed him as planned, but we don't get to see which hand he actually wields the knife with. Going with my above thesis, perhaps this is because it is muddy and unknowable to what extent Dan is doing this for Him (the right hand) and to what extent he's doing it for Phil (the left).
We can also view this in contrast with the hand cut from earlier, where the discarded knife indicates that Phil completed the whole thing with his left (ritual) hand.
Dan also has a bloody handprint on his shirt, presumably from Phil in his final moments, and it's a right hand print. This is Phil's 'friendship' hand. Despite Phil's ultimate devotion to Him, during the moment of his greatest sacrifice, it is the deep intimacy of this act between the two of them that is most important.
In the final ritual scene, Dan begins by holding the knife in his right hand (his ritual hand).
However, he then holds it in both hands, just as he holds Phil's heart in both hands a moment later. Both ritual and friendship are working together here, and he continues for the rest of the scene to use both hands to anoint them in Phil's heart's blood.
In the final shot, they are stood in their usual formation (Dan on stage right, Phil on stage left) and they each hold an item of ritualistic significance in their non-dominant, ritual hand. Dan holds Phil's heart in his right hand; Phil holds the knife in his left. What they each hold in their dominant hands is each other.
As a few others have pointed out, the rope of Baphomet behind them also evokes imagery of handfasting. That suggests that this is not just a summoning of Baphomet, but also a marriage ceremony of sorts. They are bound not just to Baphomet, but to each other.
A lot of this is, of course, because of their standard way round of sitting, so that their dominant hands are always between them, but it is fascinating that they made the choice to continue with this motif even once they were roaming free.
This is my final thesis, then, that throughout the video they both use their non-dominant hands for acts of ritualistic significance, while their dominant hands become important for their relationship. This is especially true for Dan, whose devotion often seems split between Him and Phil. Dan's left handedness could additionally act as a metaphor for queerness, so it's especially notable the way that this hand is reserved only for Phil.

phannie twitter are delusional in all the wrong ways . they refuse to believe dan and phil are anything but friends without a spoken confirmation. they do however think dan and phil have created a private twitter account to stalk fans for a video because a private account has mass follower phannies (probably to simply engage with content they enjoy without posting). it is a battle every day on that website.
i think they do all assume dnp are together they just won't say it because for some reason they insist on policing each other in public while saying whatever the fuck in private, go figure, but yeah the way some of them add disclaimers to everything that might be construed as Shippy is so stupid. i saw a tweet earlier that was like 'just realised dnp tell each other i love you' and then followed it up with 'i don't mean this in a weird way btw!!' like ...... you are making this SO much weirder by saying that sdbhdsf what do you MEAN Not In A Weird Way ???? WHAT does that mean literally hello
but god yeah this whole Undercover Phan Account thing... yall phil accidentally followed a phannie literally like, a few days ago. they're snooping now and then but they're not doing any undercover phannie account shit, come on now. tons of people follow phannies to keep up without tweeting thats nothing new

hi! longtime lurker, first time commenter and i need your help with something. i made a tiktok video about a recent 1975 show i went to and someone left a comment saying “he’s a racist but sure” referring to matty and i feel conflicted about their comment because while i don’t believe that’s true, i also don’t know if my love for the band and for matty has made me quick to dismiss some of his more problematic behavior. i know you’ve talked a bit on here about wrestling with this and i was curious if you would mind sharing how that process has been for you and where you’ve landed with it. thanks in advance :)

Yeah, this is something that came up a lot for me last year and earlier this year with the whole podcast drama. I’ve spoken about it in great detail before but since the tags STILL 😡 don’t work on here I can’t find the posts.
I think it’s ultimately a personal choice that you have to make for yourself. I won’t tell you what to think or do, but I can tell you how *I* think about it.
It’s normal to question yourself, I think. I mean, none of us really know Matty on a personal level, right? I think o wondered if, like, my love for his work and attraction to him had blinded me to some bitter truths about who he is. And I tend to pride myself on critical thinking and always talk about nuance on here, so what kind of person would I be if I didn’t practice what I preach, right? I took a step back and examined it all.
I went back through interviews, stage “speeches,” tweets, jokes, etc. saw them IN CONTEXT (cuz we all know how the internet loves to take stuff out of context and twist its meaning), thought about each instance and whether I perceived it to be harmful, bigoted, etc. or not, and kinda decided from there. I went through each and every single accusation, looking at it in context, thought about it, heard the arguments, and made my decision.
The conclusion that I came to after this examination, looking at actual evidence and the actual words that he used and the situations that he’s used them in, is that he’s not racist. Not at all.
A racist person wouldn’t write songs like Loving Someone, LIIWMI, etc. mind you this all happened in 2018, NOT the summer of 2020 when it was suddenly hip and cool and profitable for celebrities to be “woke.” I think he has a career-long record of showing exactly who he is. Whether it was in his best interest to do so or not.
I also found, through this digging and thinking about it, that he has his blind spots (as every human being does). He’s insanely privileged and doesn’t always seem to realize how his privilege has molded his experience of the world. The nepo-baby argument that he always makes is a great example of this. His stance on gender is also another example. So, as a result of his privilege, he will sometimes do or say things and assume that everyone will understand them the way that he does, and that’s not always the case.
To be clear, I’m not saying he’s naive. He’s not. But sometimes he assumes that the things that are common sense to him are common sense to everyone else. Maybe to some people those blind spots of his are too much. That’s fine.
In the end, what matters to me is that he be someone that I can stand behind. I can have faith in. I can believe is a good human being. Even if he does make mistakes sometimes. And I believe that to be true. He’s not bigoted, he’s not racist, he’s not a bad person. He speaks his mind. He stands up for what’s right even when it gets him into trouble. He’s smart, he’s self-reflective, he’s kind. BUT he’s a human being. He’s flawed. He says things too quickly without considering the consequences sometimes, he gets caught up in situations and feelings. He’s not perfect. And that’s okay. To me it is anyway.
It’s possible to disagree with someone and still love and support them. As long as the thing we disagree on isn’t “should black people have rights?” “Are women inherently inferior to men?” “Do queer folks deserve human rights?” Then it’s perfectly okay for him to sometimes do or say things that I wouldn’t. I have no expectation of him to be like 1000% flawless every single moment or every single day. Nor do I expect him to be in complete agreement with me all the time.
To be clear, supporting him doesn’t mean making excuses for him or looking the other way when he does do something “wrong.” I have called him out on stuff before and I will continue to do so. I guess I just don’t think that the occasional mistake makes him a bad person. And maybe that’s not right. But I know I’ve made mistakes before. And if it weren’t for the kindness of others who took the time to show me that I was wrong and to teach me, I wouldn’t have learned to grow.
Maybe that’s not for everyone. That’s okay. There are other artists who strive for that kind of flawless image. Perhaps those are better suited for people who dislike Matty’s way of doing things.
Ultimately it’s really down to what you believe him to be and whether or not you think you can, in good faith, support him. So, above all else, I would say tune out what the world thinks for a bit and find out what YOU think. Everything else will fall into place after that.

This one is just little over 1k words domestic curtisson where they literally share a house and everything and yet they're not married?? 🤨🤨 yea I'm gonna have to call bullshit (but yea I didn't make them married in this story sorry)
ALSO I'm just as tired as them in this story rn and I'm not gonna lie I wrote parts of this fanfic half asleep so‼️‼️whoops ‼️‼️I'll proofread once I wake up cause a little after I post this I'm going to bed (at...7am HEDJHFJR)

Curtisson Week Day 4: Sleeping
Burt was sitting on the couch in the living room of he and Sven's shared house with a book in hand. He had it open, but wasn't really paying too much attention to the story. It was mostly just to pass the time as he waited for Sven to come home from work. He looked back at his watch. 9:43pm. That's around the time Sven got off, so he should be home soon.
Burt was lucky enough to be sent off of work early. Though he was kind of upset at the same time because usually he and Sven got out of work around the same time (Sven getting out about 30 minutes after him), so he never had to wait too long for him. This time, though, he was sent off three hours earlier than he usually was. He wasn't sure why, but he didn't question it. Time off work is time off work.
Though…maybe he should've offered to work the three hours anyway. Just so he'd have something to do.
Sven and Burt had moved in together fairly recently, so while all the necessary stuff were set, such as cooking supplies, a bed, a couch, dressers, etc, etc., they were still lacking some things that they were planning on getting once they had the time.
For now, though, most things involving entertainment weren't present. Aside from like, his phone and a few books. Which he was usually alright with. He was content just sitting there, drinking his morning coffee on their porch. "Like an old man." Sven would say. But it wasn't morning, nor was it really the time for you to be chilling out on your porch. Way too cold at night.
He was feeling a little tired, but he didn't want to sleep without his boyfriend in his arms, and chances are Sven felt the same way. Though, maybe doing a relaxing activity such as reading wasn't helping his case much. But eh, nothing much else to do that'll keep him distracted.
He decided that he might as well take a shower while he waited, so he set the hardcover down on the coffee table and went into their bedroom to pick out pyjamas. A loose orange shirt and pants fit nicely. He added some matching socks there too, for extra comfort.
Once he got in and out of the shower, he put his comfy pyjamas on, and went back into the living room. He sat back on the couch and tried to read the book again. It wasn't a bad story by any means, just not what he was in the mood for. Which he finally realized and decided to just scroll through his phone instead.
A few minutes later, he heard the front doorknob rattling and assumed that it was Sven. He turned off his phone, putting it on the coffee table in front of him, and looked towards the front door expectantly. He let a gentle smile appear on his face when he saw Sven walk in, closing the door behind him. “Oh, welcome back,” he said. “How was work?”
Sven moved to sit next to Burt on the couch. “It was fine,” he sighed. “How was yours?”
“The usual,” Burt replied. "Are you up for dinner?" He asked, tilting his head over at Sven.
Sven shook his head. "Too tired…can we just go straight to bed?"
Burt smiled softly at that and nodded. "Of course." He then stood up, expecting the other to follow him to their bedroom, which he did. They walked in and Burt turned on the lights so they could see better.
Sven flopped down face first on the bed, groaning as he hit the sheets, letting said sheets suppress his voice a little.
"Hey, hey, you have to at least take a shower first," Burt chuckled, gently lifting Sven up from the bed. The other grunted once more, but reluctantly agreed. He'd feel a lot more comfortable after a shower anyway. "I already took mine, so I'll just wait for you, yeah?"
Sven nodded, and waited for Burt to leave the room so he could have some privacy.
Burt patiently waited outside of their bedroom door, letting Sven finish doing his thing.
About 10 minutes later, he heard the clear. "Okay, you can come in now."
Burt opened the door and stepped back in, greeted with Sven looking much more comfortable. And adorable. "There you go. Let's get to bed, then." Ah, yes. The moment they've both been waiting for.
Burt turned out the lights and took Sven with him on the bed. He took his headphones and top hat off, putting them on top of the nightstand. Sven had taken off his own hat right after getting out of the shower so he didn't worry about it. They were both under the covers, lying next to each other. They were pretty close together already, but apparently that wasn't enough for Sven and he slid closer to Burt, before mildly gripping onto his shirt.
"Someone's clingy." He teased, leaving the other flustered. Burt couldn't help but snicker at this. His boyfriend had always been easy to tease. He never overdid it, though. Just whenever he really wanted to see his reaction. And Sven delivered every time.
Sven looked up at him, his cheeks pink from the proximity and the teasing. He stopped gripping on his shirt for a minute, instead just laying his palms on top of his chest. He kept letting his gaze wander to Burt's lips, and couldn't resist kissing him right then and there.
Burt was taken aback by the sudden kiss, but he wasn't complaining. Not at all. He closed his eyes and kissed back, letting his hand slide up into Sven's hair, twirling it around his fingers.
Sven found Burt playing in his hair to be very relaxing, and kept the kiss going for a little longer. He loved nights like these, where he could just lay down, cuddling and kissing his boyfriend after a long day of work. Without a care in the world. It felt amazing.
Unfortunately, the kiss had to come to an end eventually. Especially whenever a thing called oxygen existed. They both pulled away, letting out a soft breath as they did so.
Burt had stopped running his fingers through Sven's hair, now just resting his hand on his head. Sven buried his face into Burt's neck. "Can you…keep doing that?" He whispered into the crook of his neck.
Burt raised an eyebrow. "Doing what?" He asked.
"Combing your fingers in my hair…" he replied. "It feels nice."
Now it was Burt's turn to get flustered. Thank God Sven couldn't see the pink in his face, but perhaps he could tell anyway and he was just too sleepy to care or say anything.
"Okay…" he obliged and started to run his fingers through the others' hair again. His hair was always soft and well-kempt, making it nice to play with.
Sven relaxed even more than he already was, which was good for both him and Burt. It was nice seeing him not so tense.
Sven then placed a soft kiss on Burt's neck. Then another, and another. At first Burt tensed up from how sudden it was, but he slowly relaxed himself. Sven planted one more soft kiss onto his neck before nuzzling into it.
They both felt themselves begin to drift off. Neither of them tried to fight it. They let themselves fall into a deep sleep.

Voiceplay Visuals: Kidnap The Sandy Claws
This video (a Halloween release in 2020) is not one I watch a whole lot. Don't get me wrong, the arrangement is of course amazing, and both the song and video are very fun, but, well, lemme just say that I can promise that there will be no simping/fawning over Geoff in this one! 😅
*Long, deep sigh* Alright let's get into this!
The bathtub made a lot more sense after I actually watched The Nightmare Before Christmas last year ngl (and apparently the reason they did this video sitting down like so was because Rachel was in fact Quite Pregnant during this)
Apparently this was filmed at some location (studios?) called 1010 West, where they also filmed their Superstition video earlier in the month.
(Okay but seriously I can definitely appreciate the thought and effort that went into set design here, like the big black face in the background representing the tunnel in and out of Oogie Boogie's lair!)
We're getting introductory title card things again, like in the Moana Medley, Get Back Up Again, and the Queen Medley! (Though the latter just said their character name)
Great masks, I'm assuming they bought from somewhere?
Layne Stein as Dr Finkelstein 😉 (the "mad scientist" kind of character type kinda suits him ngl)
And Geoff as Mr Hyde...
I can't fault him exactly for his get-up (see the first pic for a better visual), because that's literally what the Mr Hyde character in the movie looks like, see below
The red lips, the green skin, the top hat, everything, but like... why him? Did Layne decide on the characters for everyone?
But anyway, that's out of my system now. I'm not actually criticising, it's just...unusual? 😅 (Also this is the third time in just over a roughly 12-month period that Geoff has had a full face of makeup/paint for a Voiceplay video!)
But with that being said, I love the makeup for Eli, Rachel, and J in this video (shoutout to Rick Underwood and Steven Puerta!). They got the designs on point, but even more vibrant! See comparison image below:

Rachel's acting is as brilliant as ever, and I love her whole look. Style icon!
That (fake) praying-mantis-looking thing is in fact a genuine reference to/moment from the movie, so I learned.
Firstly, I love that Eli, Rachel, and J are wearing shoes that match their outfits, and secondly, I can tell that I haven't watched this video a ton (and haven't paid a lot of attention to Geoff when I have) because for some reason I remembered his outfit being a lot more black (and in all due fairness, he does wear black a lot in videos), but actually he's wearing a dark green long-sleeved shirt I believe, plus some weird baggy vest thing that looks like it might have been made or altered for the purpose of this video. Also that's probably his actual hair? Hard to say, it looks a little lighter and shinier than usual, but that could be due to the lighting and/or having some sort of colouration product in it.
(Also Geoff and Layne look just a little extra big compared to the other three in this shot. It may be at just partially just some perspective/camera trickery (though they are of course the two tallest of the group))
First of all, love the facial expressions, and second of all, Oogie Boogie here is played by Tony Wakim, aka Voiceplay's previous baritone before J joined the group! He now co-owns PattyCake Productions with Layne, and helps out behind-the-scenes with some of the videos, especially in regards to stuff like providing filming spaces, setpieces, and costuming!
Eli: "because Mr Oogie Boogie is the meanest guy around!"
(followed by a sudden cut to Geoff 😉)
Not going to post a screencap of the Mr Hyde's Hat thing, but basically when I saw that moment in the original movie I was like "OHHHHHH I get it now!"
Eli/Lock is looking suspicious, Rachel/Shock is trying to look like a perfectly adorable angel, and J/Barrel is looking like he is Planning Mischief 😁

Also it's very blink-and-you-miss-it (especially when again, you're not actually looking in his direction for a lot of the video), but a comment on a reaction video pointed out that when Geoff sings "Mr Oogie Boogie is...", he freaking winks! Which is of course a cheeky reference to the fact that a little over a year earlier, Geoff was Mr Oogie Boogie (and he kinda sorta reprised the role in December 2023 for the Jingle Bell Rock video, though full-body costume for that one).
The shoulder movement that Geoff does when he hits a subharmonic on "kicks", like even his self-conducting movements are a extra creepy/character-y for this video! 😅
Genuinely not sure whether Layne nearly falling over on his seat/stool thing was deliberate or a "nobody broke character so might as well leave it in there" moment 😂
Well, Voiceplay aren't called The Theatre Kids Of Acapella for nothing! And also their arrangements and vocal performances are so good that you can honestly forget sometimes that their songs don't use instruments! They basically don't need them!
But anyway, this is the last Nightmare Before Christmas song I will be talking about until I eventually get around to talking about Geoff's cover of Jack's Lament (which might take a while, but boy am I looking forward to it!).

I will talk to the spousal person about that literacy essay tonight at dinner.
I read a few months back through this blog and last night I saw some posts of mine from 2020, and it seems the problem of how humans think in ways that don't make sense to me has been on my mind for a few years now.
Well, of course you could say it's been on my mind my whole life, but the last few years I seem to be particularly fixated on how people sort other humans into categories and judge those categories and their borders really hard, on how so many humans seem to assume that all the other humans are either copies of themselves or copies of authorities they are rebelling against, and also the weirdness about fiction that's bubbled to the surface of the internet over the last few years.
According to the essay I reblogged earlier, maybe the last one has something to do with the other two?
Just me pondering and thinking under the cut.
Last night I was talking to the spousal person about kdramas and discussions of kdramas online and an episode of the Black Girl Seoul podcast I listened to yesterday about Gyeongseong Creature. Which I see I wrote a post when we were watching it about how people who know kdramas didn't seem to know the history it was based on, and the people who knew the history didn't seem to know kdramas.
The hosts of Black Girl Seoul (which I very much recommend subscribing to their show if you're into kdramas and you like podcasts) noticed that discrepancy even though they didn't know the history yet, so they made the effort to learn the history and got two of their college friends who aren't super into kdramas to watch it too and talk about it with them on their podcast. The hosts said they related the Korean experience under Japanese colonialism to black people here in the US and one of their friends disagreed, but it was a good friendly discussion.
I guess I'm bringing that up because I had noticed how a lack of historical knowledge hollowed out some people's perception of the show, and the podcast episode is an example of people finding that knowledge and reading it and learning it and that knowledge broadening their understanding of the show and its layers and meanings and the shared experiences of colonialism and violence and oppression across the species.
Also like I constantly bring up, when I was 9 I read every book I had access to about the Holocaust. Through that reading I learned about humans and violence and propaganda and fascism and genocide, and I guess because I was so young I just assumed it was common knowledge that everyone learned as a preteen. Just like how I was surprised that other kids couldn't read in kindergarten and I was surprised that other people online had such violent reactions to just the mention of reading. I am not immune to the human tendency to assume that others are copies of you. ;)
I told the spousal person last night that lots of times I feel like I'm a horribly ignorant person, but then sometimes I realize that actually I do know a fair bit. He said yeah, it's impossible to learn everything and of course you're always going to be ignorant of a lot, but it's possible to keep learning.
And I've been trying to do that. I've tried to read posts and comments of the people who used to think in categories and copies and who are still close enough to it to reflect on it. Like how I used to read the forum for incels who are trying to get out of incel mentality, and how I read the forum for exvangelicals. I am realizing that I cannot learn anything from people who are activated/triggered and lashing out at others and bullying them and being mean, but I can learn a lot from people who were where those people are and who are now trying to come out of it and who can reflect on their indoctrination and their growth out of that indoctrination.
I guess what I am thinking about the most now is what the author of the essay said about short form video with its emotions versus long form reading and reflection, and also the bit about students accepting whatever the teacher tells them. I've posted a fair bit over the years about being confused about why so many people seem to get their idea of how life should be from mediocre TV shows, and I didn't always realize I was repeating myself. I also found a post where I was confused about students being upset when a teacher didn't tell them what to think and gave them options. But that's how thinking and learning and experiencing goes - it's a spiral, and you keep returning to the same place but on a higher level.
Maybe it was that childhood of longform reading in the time before the internet that shaped my brain more towards reflection and ability to see the story behind the images and the words and to understand that I don't have to copy what is in the fictional stories around me.
The spousal person and I have noticed extreme anti-drug propaganda in kdramas. One we're watching now, Flex x Cop, had a scene where the female lead talked about how someone had "druggily murdered" someone. We just laughed a lot and took a pic of it for our silly kdrama screencaps folder and went on with our lives, easily understanding that it was silly propaganda. We never thought about having to accept panic about drugs as the truth or, on the other side, being all super rage-y about it and bullying anyone who watches the show and calling them a fed or whatever the kids do these days. It was just instinctual knowledge of yeah, mass media is gonna have stuff like that in it and it is what it is and you laugh and go on.
I mean, honestly, it was so instinctual that it seems like....like I don't know, maybe that pic that goes around of the adult woman and the infant that she's showing a ball to or whatever. Like I could get having to explain this to a very small child, but I feel like by the time you're able to participate extensively online you should know this. But the internet makes it clear that I'm wrong, and that plenty of teens and even adults don't really have that instinctual recognition of propaganda and its silliness and they don't have an emotional remove from it.
I guess some people get so weird about other people possibly copying what they read or see in fiction because they themselves copy what they read and see in fiction. Humans project so much.
Anyway, yeah, long post short: I grew up reading a lot, I married a dude who also read a lot, when our first apartment flooded the insurance guy had to go and do research because he'd never done anything with that many books before, our house is full of books everywhere, and the spousal person works at the library. It's kind of like reading and book literacy is the water I've been swimming in, and I didn't know that other people swam in other water. I am trying to learn what that other water is like though, so maybe one day I can understand and I can be gentle and compassionate about it while encouraging them to dip a toe into my water.

***thats why im posting this here (no one reads this really) and not on twitter and im already beginning to have second thoughts abt keeping it up so we'll see i guess
i'm not gonna say that aaron's blog post today isn't pr-washed, it totally is (wouldn't get published otherwise). i didn't expect to see any blame laid at the foot of corporate mismanagement. but what i did expect (and did see) is creative mismanagement i've (and others) suspected for a hot minute.
team 4 originally thinking of themselves as an 'mmo team' post-ow launch, with their ultimate goal being the rebuilding of project titan, explains so many strange creative decisions kaplan and the old leadership made prior to his departure. they never really saw ow as we saw ow. we saw it as a fun competitive shooter. they saw it as a stepping stone on the way to creating this massive mmofps.
early in ow's history there were so many weird balancing decisions (example: trying to make each hero equally viable in all situations, balancing around quick play). before the closed beta, im pretty sure they only wanted ow to be playable in dedicated teams of 6. meaning no solo queue. which seems like a REALLY weird decision for a competitive fps, right?
well, now it makes sense. they saw ow as this small part into building this big mmo. chasing that white whale that was project titan. and yeah, in hindsight, easy to think "well they couldn't make it work once, why did they think they could the next time?" well they probably didn't expect ow to be a big runaway success, either. they might've felt like they had the right idea, wrong approach.
it also explains (although i think budgets fall into this as well) why they didn't want to just build a new team for ow2's endgame pve. they saw team 4 as the team that did "everything." that handled the whole franchise.
ironically, we probably wouldn't have gotten archives or (in august) ow2's story missions if it wasn't for that creative vision. we know from former ow producer tracy kennedy that kaplan was thinking of a sequel before ow1 even shipped. that was ow2 and its pve, and eventually... ow3?? the mmo?? so it was something they'd prolly planned to start exploring early in ow1's life cycle.
this also explains why the original ow2 announcement in 2019 was so controversial (thats ignoring the whole blitzchung stuff, which i have zero desire to talk about). i remember kaplan being... kinda hostile in some interviews. like, he was interviewed by nathan grayson during blizzcon 2019 for kotaku. in the published version, grayson expressed frustration that ow1's development had been put on ice for a sequel he didn't really want or expect. kaplan mentioned this first interview in a second interview later (although grayson wasn't mentioned by name). like, he was being professional abt it i guess, but he was clearly upset grayson did not understand the vision and sorta accused him of insulting his team (which i don't think grayson was trying to do, either).
but also--how were we supposed to react? we had no idea the goal was to make titan again. we just assumed ow would function like lol or dota. i guess i can't help but be a little angry. i think the team meant nothing but the best, but a lot of fandom angst could've been avoided if we were told abt what ow1 was (a stepping stone to a larger project) instead of what we thought it was (an always supported online game).
this of course ignores all the corporate mismanagement, which i suspect Jason The Video Game Reporter Guy will cover in the next few weeks. i hold no love for kotick and his goons. but if what aaron is saying is at least marginally true, then the old vision was also a problem. its very easy to lay all the blame at abk corporate and a lot should be, but someone had to pull the creative plug earlier i feel.
at the very least, we now have leadership that's willing to make the tough choices, i guess? i'm certain the mentality of many will be "well they should've done this years ago" but hindsight is 20/20. i'd rather focus on rebuilding now (which is what i think the goal is). and while i have issues w ow2 in it's current state, there's also quite a bit of things i like, and quite a lot of goodwill their narrative team has fostered with me (it helps that the lore/characters/story are my favorite thing perhaps).
i also don't really "blame" aaron or jared. it sucks they've become the face of this when it was a different team, with different members, different structure, different makeup. yes aaron was there but he also wasn't director or ep. jared's been at blizz for like 6 months. i'm not saying trust them wholeheartedly but also... don't treat them inhumanly either.

Those are questions I can answer! Somewhat.
One was how did he even managed to get some info? Did Skeptic help him or did he do it himself?
1) Unknown! Current hypothesis is that Dabi tried looking into Hawks, found his "lack of existence" hella sus, decided to take a break to bully Endeavor, found "Ending" who was released from prison, who also happened to be an Endeavor fanatic who just so happened to be present during Takami's arrest. I assume he was passionately ranting about the first time he saw Endeavor's flames fight "the thief with red feathers" and how it inspired him to become a villain, and that was enough for Dabi to get curious. Skeptic could've hacked into the HPSC database because surely they'd have a record of all ProHeroes right?
But this creates more issues because they erased Hawks' name, they sure as hell wouldn't have records of his mom, so I'm assuming they instead tried following money trails, paychecks from Hawks' agency to his mom's place? We don't really know who was paying for everything, when Hawks was younger it could've been the HPSC, but now I assume it all comes from his paycheck. Tbh I find this whole thing flimsy, Hori was all "Dabi just somehow did it" and expects us to magically he believe he found Hawks' mom's house. Because I think Hori ran into some issues with that plot, I highly suspect he had to find a hasty way to wrap things up and that's a whole separate post if you wanna hear my complaints.
That leads in to how much time he spent finding the information he did because that is some confidential stuff?
2) Oh, absolutely. He has nothing to track because Hawks doesn't even have a birth certificate. He has no legal identity. Removing "Takami Keigo" was more of a formality, cutting off his mind's connection to the name. Following my theory, I say around January to early March is about the time frame for it. Tomie fled at an unknown time before the end of the war, which was last week of March, but since Dabi had his video done for awhile, (everything else was hastily edited in later on the way to the battlefield) I wanna say it could've been earlier in the month? Regardless, within that time frame.
Another is wouldn't that be some information that the Commission would have locked up tight so that no one could access it? Is Skeptic (or Dabi) really that tech savvy or is someone in the Commission is actually worse than what we are lead to believe?
3) See above. Don't think Dabi knows about the HPSC truthfully, he never mentions them. Either because he doesn't want Hawks being seen as sympathetic, or he just doesn't know or care, cause yeah his story would be another way to shatter hero society, but...it doesn't suit the narrative Dabi was going for. Which is a whole other essay.
Another question is did Dabi do research on the other Pro Heroes or did he not care to?
4) Didn't care to. He doesn't actually care about the other Pros. Only Endeavor. He says as much, that "I'm not saying that everybody has to be pure and selfless, just you." He targeted Hawks to get at Endeavor, he realizes Endy cares about him. Says, "This is my present to you Endeavor" when he mentions doing research on Hawks. In the same way he calls bringing Shouto's corpse as "a present" for dear old dad. And I suspect he wants to the public to think that "if Hawks, a hero, killed someone because of his upbringing by a villain for a father, then Dabi, the son of a hero, having killed all these people, must have also been influenced by his hero of a father...but hero? If Dabi turned out this way, how bad is Endeavor?" He's actually implies that really hard too. Pretty much states it out right. I could point out every piece of dialogue but this is getting long lol.
If he did, did nothing strike him as worth enough to disclose to the public? How about Miruko? Knowing her backstory, he didn't think to disclose that?
5) See above. Fatgum actually fought in underground rings too, but Dabi has no grudges against them, nor does he actually care for "please think for critically!" he likes to act like a concerned whistleblower, but Endeavor is his only goal. This whole disaster that ruins the ProHero profession ruins the "hero" Endeavor by default and places the blame on him. It's that association again. He was all, "Even Endeavor's friends, like Hawks are bad!" So I'm assuming this could also partially be his reasons for trying to criticize all heroes in his video, ruin his old man's job fully, no leeway. If they hate the idea of heroes so much, no chances left for Endy, just their hatred for this failure, and when that didn't happen, he's seen thinking to himself, "so I didn't go far enough heh."

Hi👋🏼 Im confused on the timeline of when the boys were arrested and lived solo because i wasn’t really IN the fandom then, just lurking i guess. So they lived in the old trap-house when they got arrested but when Colby posted his story he was in his own apartment??
Did they take a break and move during that time or was the video of Jake finding out taken elsewhere? Also how did the fandom find out? Like how specifically did they know what jail in florida because im guessing they were in state and not federal. Also sorry to ask so much but the video of Jake…was it edited because when he and griffin scream, the bass increases.
they got arrested on jan. 16, 2019. they were still living in the trap house. by late feb early march, they moved out. they took the rest of january off, for the most part. colby filmed (at least) one video in the trap house talking about being arrested. but he didn't film the story of what went down until he lived by himself.
and i'm assuming the video you're talking about is the one livestream jake held the night they got arrested and griffin and corey and aaron were there. if you're talking about another video, idk. that was taken at the trap house.
the fandom found out originally that snc were MIA bc of jake and kat. both of them had tweeted out earlier that night that they were trying to get a hold of snc and couldn't. jake joked "hope they didn't get arrested :/" and… that's kinda what started the fire lol
after that, fans looked at snc's last story on insta and saw that they were in the tampa area (i believe) and so fans literally started searching thru counties near there to see if snc's mugshots were online. i was literally watching someone's livestream of them trying to find out what county they were in. then it just kinda happened. someone found colby's mugshot, jake went live, the fandom as a whole found out.
and no the video of them finding out snc were arrested was not edited. i think they just screamed so loud, it broke the mike for a second lol

The taste of the meat depends greatly on what food the human has been eating, as for example a diet with a lot of dairy will give the meat more of a sweet taste. Haha yeah I know right Will was just like 'This guy has been aggravating my illness and also kills people and also made me eat them. Huh' like if I was a regular person I wouldn't have been so calm and collected about having been fed human flesh!! Nooo you're not annoying! Voiceplay Visuals: Boy Bands In 5 Minutes (post 2/2)
Part 2! Let's get right into this! (For part 1 go here)
...There's a lot going on with the outfits here, but I'm assuming it's decade/era-appropriate? (I learned from one reaction video that apparently the poncho/jumper/hoodie thing that Geoff is wearing is something that people used to wear to the beach a lot or something?)
Geoff used to wear a bowtie a lot when he had shorter hair (apparently, though I don't watch a lot of VP's older stuff), but this is basically the only time that we see Geoff wearing a bowtie since growing his hair out (well, wearing a tied-up bowtie anyway)
I did a study/analysis thing on the varying positionings/line-up orders of the group during this video (haven't bothered to psot it though), and fun fact: Geoff spends the majority of this video on the left side of the screen!
This guy is Rek Dunn, who was a production assistant and friend of the group for many years, before he sadly passed away in 2021 (the Halo theme cover that Voiceplay did that year is in honour of him)
The only outfit change done phyiscally on camera and not via quick cuts. Pay attention to Layne!
The absolute drama. Iconic, we stan 👌😂
Backstreet Boys time! The outfits are similiar to what they started the video wearing, but with a few changes. E.g. they're wearing white pants rather than black, Eli's wearing a white fedora, and Geoff is wearing a singlet/tank top (one of the first times (if not the first time) that Geoff has been the only one with bare shoulders in a Voiceplay video, and certainly not the last (hey, if you've got it, flaunt it!))
Back to NSYNC, this time for the song "pop". And yes, if you haven't figured it out already, this section is filled with scenes relating to "pop" and all its meanings/connotations. So in this shot the guys are playing with balloons (which can pop), then they're tossing around bubble wrap (which people often enjoy popping), then they're eating bubblegum (which you can blow bubbles with, which can then pop), then dancing in bubbles/using bubble guns (see previous), and then doing a toast/cheers with cans of soda/soft drink, which Americans sometimes refer to as "pop".
This section alone must have taken a bit of time to set up and film each scene for, but I bet they had a really fun time with it (must be a ton of bloopers/outtakes)
According to commenters, Voiceplay are in fact doing the same choreography for One Direction's Best Song Ever as was used in the original music clip.
(Also I saw part of a 1D music video on a public TV screen a couple weeks ago and I was like "okay but why is Harry Styles' appearance here giving me Geoff vibes? 😅" (I think it was partially the hair, and partially the fact that Geoff lives rent-free in my head))
Geoff flossing XD (he also did it at the end of his Monster Mash video, or one of his selves did it at least)
Earl, Eli, and J are absolutely killing it with the fashion here! (I wanna know how many of the clothes used were already owned, and how many were acquired just for the video?)
Eli back at it again with the sunglasses-as-fashion-accessory (without wearing them), and also I just realized his pants are the same that he was wearing in the Pop section of the video just a bit earlier. Also J's shirt reminds me of the blazer/jacket he wore in the Queen Medley.
Also it's about time I acknowledge those light bars/poles that have been in the background the whole time and changing colours for the different scenes. Eli's the lighting whiz of the group, so they were likely his idea/doing (and he is credited with lighting in the description), and they're definitely a brilliant addition to the video!
I don't know how much rehearsal time went into this whole thing, but Voiceplay did an overall fantastic job at the choreography.
(Maybe I would have been fine doing this video as just one post, but better safe than sorry imo)
So yeah, amazing video, amazing arrangement, amazing performance. What more can I say? They might not be boys (anymore), but Voiceplay is definitely my favourite band! 😁

Back in August, news broke that Kim Kardashian and Pete Davidson had split up after nine months of dating.
The pair reportedly found it too “difficult” to maintain a relationship due to their “demanding schedules” and “long distance dynamic.”
Though neither party has publicly discussed the breakup as of yet, a friend of Pete’s, Johnny Potenza, has since claimed that it was the Saturday Night Live comedian who initiated the split, alleging that Kim’s complicated relationship with her ex-husband, Kanye West, proved to be too much “baggage.”
Kanye, aka Ye, spent months slamming both Kim and Pete on Instagram earlier this year, though ended up largely directing his attacks toward the comic.
Ye memorably encouraged his followers to “scream” at Pete if they saw him out in public, leading Kim to beg him to stop compromising the comic’s safety. He also released several pointed lyrics threatening Pete, before depicting a cartoon-like version of his kidnapping and decapitation in a music video.
Given that Pete was embroiled in such a messy feud with Ye, and that he and Kim parted ways months later, viewers of Hulu’s The Kardashians have long questioned whether or not he’d be appearing this season, all of which was filmed while he and Kim were dating.
Well, in this week’s episode, which aired last night, fans were finally treated to their first glimpse of Pete Davidson this season — albeit over the phone.
Things begin with Kim, her sister Khloé, mom Kris, and grandma MJ gathering around to have a long overdue “gossip.”
And within seconds, Kim oh-so-candidly reveals that she and Pete had sex in front of a fireplace in “honor” of her grandmother. Completely normal, I know!
“You know what’s so crazy?” Kim tells her family. “Pete and I were staying at the Beverly Hills Hotel last weekend, and we were sitting in front of the fireplace, just talking for hours.”
“I was like, ‘My grandma told me that you really live life when you have sex in front of the fireplace,’” Kim recalls. “And so, we had sex in front of the fireplace, in honor of you,” she says, before adding: “I know that’s really creepy.”
Kim continues, “Speaking of Pete, I have to tell you guys something.” Immediately, her family members assume that the two are engaged, with Khloé even warning Kim that she only “just got divorced.”
But alas, as Kim reveals, she and Pete ~were not~ engaged, and her big announcement was simply that he was going to space.

I Think Watching Steven Universe Movie & SU-Future Is Helping Take Mind Off Of Toxic-Fans...
so yeah if you saw the post that talked about well some stuff that has to do with Vivziepop, which I found out earlier today and I hope she takes all the time she needs to properly heal and the stuff that has been going on, works out.

but when fans can’t understand such creations take time, then well it is a problem....
I mean even the whole assuming that the Bendy and The Dark Revival game being cancelled, when really isn’t, would get any Bendy Fan Peeved or annoyed or disappointed at such a rumor that had no evidence.
plus it helps to check the updates about it on the official Joey Drew Studios site, for any new updates about it, or I guess the tweets.

right now I’m on the Snow Day episode of Steven Universe Future,
and like I said in the other post, I started with the Steven Universe Movie first, then went to the Steven Universe Future.
for some odd reason while watching the episode with Onion giving Steven and Pearl a hard time, does give me a idea for a crossover fan art idea...
when I came back to inform that I’m on the Snow Day episode now, and that watching Steven Universe Movie and the Steven Universe Future is helping after the whole finding out what happen thing, I did see some FNAF fan art that had to do with Sunny/Moony, I had to reblog one of them.
anyway I think watching Steven Universe is helping, you know to take my mind off of all of, what I had learned in a video I saw.
even if it can feel like a new video game or movie or even a episode is taking forever, and yeah any fan will feel the wait get to them and be like “are we there yet, are we there yet...?” type of feeling, and that is just one part of you,
while the other feeling is like “be patient, and don’t make me turn us around.”
guess that is a little confusing and weird to put it that way.
but sometimes the feeling like it is taking forever, can turn into something else inside of most fans, where they stop being the good kind of feeling like it’s taking forever but still feel patient and know it will be worth the wait.
to selfish, insensitive, special privilege type fans.
I mean if it is like “special privilege” although I’m not 100% sure about that one, maybe it would be a little.
the point is, you can’t just rush these things, and sometimes what is being worked on will have to go into hiatus so those who are working on it, can take much needed time to themselves and have some healing.
plus if some fans do worry they might end up like some fans who went all toxic-fan mode, just try to understand from each creators point of view, like reasons why they can’t have a movie or video game or episode you really love out right away....it takes time and plus it doesn’t mean they don’t want to, it’s just they might have a lot going on right now, and Toxic-Fans bullying ain’t gonna help it along.
I don’t want anybody to misinterpret what I’m trying to point out, but I think some fans can agree, that even if you can ask nicely about a update, but if your told it wont be for a while or even a little bit longer or maybe until a year,
doesn’t mean you should say “do it now, I want to see it now.”
that is NOT helping, I mean sometimes stuff happens where you can’t do things right away, I know and I’m not even famous.
I don’t think being descendant of certain royalty would count, when it comes to fandom....at least I don’t think so.
King David is still a butt head, and you know why I feel that way if you read my previous talks about it how he didn’t stop his sicko of a son from harming Tamar.

but yeah, this is the fandom zone, so yeah like I said, it takes time, lot of energy and there will be times when both the creator and team/friends that works with the creator of the series, will need to take a break to relax and depending on it, to heal both their mental health and emotional health.

also even if some might not want to wait very long for a FREE DLC of FNAF Security Breach, which will take until 2023....but we have to.

“Can I help ya, young lady?” he asks, concerned.
“Please, you have to help me,” you whisper quickly, “I’m being held here against my will by the man in the far corner of the room. Call 911.”

TP WORLD BUILDINGGGG
Botw has good world building too, but each race felt kinda,,, isolated? I absolutely love the different architecture and vibe each town has (and all the the weapons too) but ghhh yea everyone felt so separated. As far as I can remember, we don’t see tooo much of the races interacting with each other? Now that I’m typing that out maybe that’s to be expected because of the calamity but KLSJDKJFD ANYWAYS THIS IS ABOUT TP
The world feels nice and alive, love how populated everything is
Castle town I like castle town a lot, it feels dense and busy and I really like how you can’t talk to every NPC you see
Very cool very fun that we got to see the Gorons hanging out in multiple spots
kinda wish we got to see the Zoras a little more (I guess they are a bit limited since they need water but GHHHH the tp zoras are so prebby,,)
BUT HEY, I do remember seeing a zora or two hanging out in the hot springs around death mountain after beating the lakebed temple (I think, might have been a different dungeon)
but aaaa would have been nice to see them in at least a couple of other places. I think it would have really added to the “congrats Link!! You’re restoring peace to Hyrule” feeling you get from seeing the Gorons hanging out in Kakariko and Castle Town

Because like, on one hand, they’re all separate from each other because of yknow, individual hero stuff. BUT ALSO, they’re all connected because of the reincarnation stuff

Love Midna’s theme and how they referenced the dark world theme from ALttP (I remember trying to learn the dark world theme on the piano and doing the Leonardo DiCaprio point meme at the little jingle I recognized from Midna’s theme)
Hyrule field theme SLAPS.
Apparently references a couple of the other over-world themes from the previous zelda games (I got this from 8-bit Music theory’s video on the over-world zelda themes, he talks about TP at around 11:40 but def recommend watching the whole video if you’re into music analysis stuff)
So there’s this bit of the Hyrule Field theme, I don’t know the official name for it but I remember seeing somewhere it being called the “at an advantage theme” since yeah, you hear it during the boss music whenever you expose their weak points. FUCKINGGG LOVE THAT. Didn’t notice it during my first playthrough, but hearing it during my second was like a little easter egg for my ears every time :)
Midna’s lament is very pretty (and fun to play on the piano)

I didn’t care for it too much when I started playing the game but hearing it in ZREO’s arrangement of the Hyrule Field theme literally makes me turn into a puddle of emotions. Also hearing it around and of the Ordon kids (I think it plays after Link saves Colin) AAAAAAAAAAAAA

Literally, the first time I listened to those I just,,,, plugged in my headphones, volume 100, layed on the floor/against my desk and silently vibed. I don’t know what the hell it is, but those two just fit so well with TP?? I still avoid listening to them nowadays cause if I DO I definitely will get overwhelmed with the “god I love this game so FUCKING MUCH” kind of feels.

the first time I heard him howling Zelda’s Lullaby I lost my shit because LKSJLDKSGLKJFSKG god that was.,, Bad. Anyways, hearing him howl some of the songs from OoT was cute :)
TP STAFF ROLL???
VERY GOOD. IT’s like 10 minutes long and GOD do I love every single second of it. It doesn’t have the same energy as the skyward sword staff roll or the orchestra pieces but GOD does it hit good??
Nice and calm after that big exciting adventure. Maybe it would have been more fun or emotional to have a higher energy piece but it was really nice getting to sit back and watch the camera fly around Hyrule. Seeing like, the Gorons and the Zoras having a good time, the kids returning to Ordon? GOOD SHIT.
and AAAAA that end, when you hear the main Zelda theme and see Link riding off out of Faron woods on Epona… good shit. It gets you thinking, where the hell is he going? What is he doing? Off ot do more adventuring? Going to help out the resistance or something? Going to help Zelda? Or maybe he’s trying to figure out a way to restore the mirror of twilight? Whoooo knows.
hhHHHHhhh it’s just that final reminder that YES!!! YOU JUST PLAYED A ZELDA GAME. JUST ANOTHER STORY APART OF THE WHOLE EPIC OF THE ZELDA SERIES AS A WHOLE
I also want to acknowledge the instrument/samples they used for all the twili stuff.
They’re all just so unique and contrast SO well with the rest of the TP OST. LIKE FUCK!! Anytime I hear the screech from the Twilit Kargarok? Sends a shiver down my spine. I associate those sounds SO strongly with the twili realm. (Like, the same way you associate the BSHEWW VVWWMMM sounds with light sabers)
