While I attempt to get my head into writing mode I just wanted to talk about all creatures great and small season 3 episode 3 which just came out in my country and what a freaking masterpiece (get it?)

Siegfried is the best he's ever been in this episode. The entire time he looks so young, and vulnerable. like he's just a kid again, cause he's reliving so much of that trauma. It sorta places him right back there. He feels out of control, and the only time during the episode that he seems himself is when he's with that horse. The amount of healing they put each other through is just beautiful. He's just trying so hard to rewrite his sins while everyone is working so hard against him.

I loved that moment in the flashback when he brings his horse through that ruined building, and kills it. This might sound cruel but I'm so glad he actually went through with it. It just makes the whole thing hit so much harder. It makes it so personal to him, that he felt so helpless to stop it that he HAD to participate. That guilt just informs his whole character and if he had done the cliche thing and told it to run off it wouldn't hit nearly as hard as it did.

But my favorite moment from the episode, was the moment when he was sitting down with Mrs. Hall. Trying to apologize, and looking like a broken child who just wants forgiveness. The way he was trying so hard to keep himself together, but you could see the cracks forming; it was so important to have that scene with Audrey, the person he trusts most, the person who went through such similar trauma. He doesn't cry, he holds himself together enough to tell her that his friend committed suicide. Twenty odd years since it happened. Just further sinking in the knife; that this is trauma that sticks around. That it's so deep some never recover.

Fuck I love this episode. Please give Samuel West an award for his portrayal of Siegfried Farnon. I love this man with my entire heart. I can't believe the way they improved his character for this adaptation.

I think this is one of the most underrated quotes from the article yesterday. They don't love this show despite the grown-up stories they tell; this cast loves this show because of the grown-up stories they tell, because they're allowed to explore and probe the depths of queerness, humanity, love, struggle, triumph, devastation, etc. I love how much this cast loves 911 and I love that, even though we all experience the show differently (them as actors, us as viewers), we all adore it for the same reasons.

The compelling thing about Jason as a character is that I never doubted that he cared about the world just because there weren’t panels of him being overly zealous about “restorative community care”

I’m not coming after anyone who wants to see that kind of stuff, but I do think seeking | that | as confirmation that Jason cares about the world is pretty narrow

#shoving an arc like that into his comics to “show he cares about people”#after having him repeatedly say things like “nothing I ever did was for good. it was all just selfish anger” in recent comics #would be the final nail in the “see! he's redeeming himself! he CAN be likable!” coffin (pathetic)#it's literally what his antis have been suggesting would make his character “so much better”#kelseethe #see also: “people would have a hard time knowing whether Jason loves them”#why did he gift Thomas' watch to Bruce all those years later + possibly even after utrh happened #why is he always silently forgiving the shitty treatment from his family almost like he wants to maintain some sort of relationship w/ them #as for “showing that he cares about the world”#the most obvious “evidence” is right there #why would he continue to fight tooth and nail to have a place in Gotham as a vigilante #both warding off and enduring harassment after harassment from Bruce while hearing the same message every time #“hey. you're doing this to yourself. you can make it all go away if you just do as I say and quit for good.”#“you'll even get to be my son again”#it’s not like he gets recognition/praise for doing what he does either unlike Bruce Dick or Tim #what could possibly be in it for him #wouldn't it be that much easier to “not give a crap about the world” on a beach in Capri instead of in the Gotham sewers every month #anyway Jason should decapitate rapists and poison more child traffickers and not cry about it five seconds after
