Ok so, can we talk about how Buddy Daddies episode 7 made me cry so much?
First of all, Kazuki was very relatable this episode because watching him, I remember my mom doing all the chores in our house- and sometimes I couldn't or just didn't want to help her, and seeing Kazuki go through the same thing kind of made me realize how I often underapprecaited my mom's efforts.
Second of all, I love that we see Rei sort of grow as a person this episode. In the beginning he kind of pissed me off a bit because he didn't really want to help Kazuki with the house or properly taking care of Miri at all, but I understand this might be because he hasn't had the chance to develop emotionally
But then, after Kazuki left, we see Rei trying his best to care for Miri and we see that he genuinely loves this kid- His daughter. He might not know much about housekeeping and general childcare, but Rei has his own strengths. And, as we see in the last minutes of the episode, Rei is trying to do better and help Kazuki with chores and cooking with Miri trying to help as well!
This episode made me cry because even though their family gives us cute, wholesome, and funny vibes every week, they also show the realistic, and serious side of having a family.
Families need teamwork- it isn't up to one person only to do all the work, and I love that!
I love Rei and Kazuki so much this episode because they know now that they can rely on each other and take care of their daughter together.
That they can help each other achieve their best selves and that both of them are very important to Miri. Rei and Kazuki are both Miri's papas- it takes work to be a family, but at the end of the day:
They are family

things i am learning reading the dr kirigiri novel summaries (vol 2)
kyoko kirigiri, who is a child, has a credit card
she also gets a santa hat dropped on her head and does not notice its existence for hours
apparently her grandfather (on her mother's side, not fuhito) is also associated with detectives (and also sucks ass!!!)
upon said grandfather saying detective work should prioritize work over familial deaths, kyoko asks yui if she finds this strange. she keeps pressing yui multiple times until she says she doesnt find it weird at all, but also saying thats shes probably just trying to convince herself of this otherwise she'd feel empty inside (what the FUCK)
one of the characters is gay?? canonically?? he straight up says this apparently
yui prepares to cover kyoko to save her from getting shot with pretty much zero questions asked
i can only imagine how agonizing to my soul reading the complete story would be

I've been thinking about unconditional love.
I've seen this idea where like. If someone doesn't approve of and love and accept everything about a person at first sight, then their love can't be considered unconditional. Which makes sense. Like that's what the 'unconditional' means, right?
But the thing is, I love found family. Chosen love is more meaningful to me than love at first sight.
But also. Unconditional love is good, at least in certain circumstances. Like, children deserve unconditional love, of course.
Then I realized that I was thinking about it wrong. Love doesn’t have to be at first sight to still be unconditional.
I mean. Flapjack loves Hunter unconditionally, right?
Of course he does.
But Flapjack didn't love Hunter immediately.
Flapjack didn't even approach Hunter until he learned something about him and what he wants from his life.
Even then. Hunter rejects Flapjack, and Flapjack sticks by Luz for most of rest of the episode.
It isn't until after everything is said and done that Flapjack chooses to commit to Hunter.
And Flapjack does love Hunter after that. It is unconditional. Even when Hunter pushes him away,
or makes the wrong choice,
Flapjack still unambiguously and wholly loves him and sticks by him.
It's never called into doubt. Flapjack's initial hesitation and wariness don't undermine the strength or sincerity of his love for Hunter.
But it also wasn’t there from the beginning. It takes time for their relationship to grow. The love becomes unconditional when Flapjack makes the decision to commit to Hunter.

So I realised why their dynamic felt so familiar/why I love them so much...
Charlie and Angel 🤝 Luz and Hunter: traumatised but optimistic girls who see the best in everyone, who adopt also-traumatised bad-but-sad-boys as their big brothers, help them heal, see past the edgy facade they've always had to put up to survive and don't judge them for their past mistakes, and act as the family they never had 🥹👍

Side blog I made to post about shows that I like a Definitely Normal Amount! Since it’s a side blog, likes and follows will look like they show up from @artsy-mess (I think)?
It's mostly Haikyuu!!, Omniscient Reader's Viewpoint, Spy x Family, and Moriarty the Patriot, but idk the hyperfixations take me where they take me!
