a/n: not a lot of jake in this one i know but i have to make a plot and conflict yall 😩 adding in bbg riki and some more best friend!jay pls enjoy
"HOW MANY TIMES have I told you to wear the gloves when you do the dishes?" You tsk, delicately wrapping the small gash that ran along Ni-ki's, the newest trainee at your work, hand. He sheepishly smiled, tilting his head in the smallest of ways.
"Sorry noona," He mumbled out, embarrassed by his third time sitting like a kid being scolded due to his clumsiness. "I needed the steaming pitcher so I just reached in the sink and didn't see realize the tongs were so sharp,"
You shake your head with mock disappointment though a small smile perked at your lips nonetheless. With the middle of the semester rolling around, most freshmen had found themselves finding a rhythm with balancing their school lives enough to find a part time job. You've seen numerous come and go, Cho— your generous manager who was the sweetest old lady that ran the cafe, always took them in for at least a short amount of time.
Ni-ki was your favorite thus far, always listening intently (to everything aside from the dishwashing) and picked up the skills relatively fast. Respectful but also comfortable enough to joke around with, the two of you had become a dynamic duo in closing four days out of the week together.
Of course he was still a boy, a young and partially annoying one at that but he reminded you of your younger brother, weaseling his way in having a soft spot in your heart even though it had only been two weeks.
"Okay now we switch, you run the front I'll clean up back here," Satisfied with your makeshift bandaging, you shoo the younger boy along who rolled his eyes but nonetheless disappeared from the back of the house. Cleaning up the medical kit and barely managing to slip on your gloves to handle the load of piling dishes, you noticed his head poke in around the corner.
"Someone would like to talk to you," He hums before disappearing once more, not giving you enough time to determine whether it was a good talk or bad one in having to handle the customers. With a small sigh, you make your way to the front, prepped for the worst but your tension dissolves seeing your bright smiled best friend leaning over the pastry case.
"Off the glass," You warn, making your way to the register where Ni-ki stood with a goofy smile. Jay reluctantly stands himself up straight, pouting seeing as you didn't greet him with the same warmth he was expecting.
"That's not very good customer service, where's ajumma Cho? I'd like to file a complaint," Jay tuts, peering around the store though he knew well enough it was only you and Ni-ki in the building. The younger boy lets out a small snort, used to his antics in the past two weeks of running into each other and forming a budding friendship through their mutual teasing over you.
Rolling your eyes, you lean against the counter expectantly. "What'd you need Jay?"
"I can't just come say hi?" He pouts, seemingly offended by your words while he shakes his head. "I haven't seen you in days teeny, you've been too busy with your boyfriend to give me any attention now,"
"I saw you when we had lunch," You deadpan, finding his dramatics amusing though you knew the mess that occupied the back room needed tending to before you were forced to stay late. "Seriously, I actually have work to do today so I can't talk—"
"I'll help!" Jay volunteers, the same boxy smile on his lips while you shake your head. "What? I've done stuff before! I'm bored and want to hang out, let me help. It'll show me what you broke college students do everyday to survive and stuff,"
"Let rich boy do the dishes," Ni-ki interjects, rolling his eyes at his ladder sentence though it was all in playful manner.
"As long as I get to wear an apron," Jay agrees, pointing a finger at the coffee brown colored uniform piece you had to wear.
It was a temping offer, and he wasn't wrong. Typically you had him clean the menus or refill caramel bottles whenever he wanted to be like a kid and help out but you really did dread washing dishes. With a reluctant sigh, you nodded your head and not even a split second later, Jay had made his way around the counter to the employees side.
"This is exciting," He hums, following you to the back while you reach into the locker cubbies, pulling out one of the spare aprons left just in case anyone needed it. Jay slips it over his head, securing the strings behind his waist while you point toward the far end of the room. His excitement visibly deflates seeing the mountain of items waiting to be cleaned, the cherry on top being the empty dishes Ni-ki waltzed in with a genuine smile of content as he added to it.
"Have fun princess," You laugh, patting his shoulder as you walked by and with some reluctance, Jay made his way to begin without a word of protest much to your surprise. Having far more time to do your tasks, you began with the inventory. Going through the store and marking down the amounts had while Ni-ki continued to clean and restock due to the end of the night approaching, it was peaceful with the younger boy taking hold of the aux to play his own music now opposed to the cafe playlist.
A few minutes passed without any words, finding comfortable silence and both of you working on your own things before the jingle from the front door indicated someone coming inside. "Welcome in," You called out, not bothering to look up from the fridge you were bent down beside while Ni-ki headed for the register to attend the guest.
"Hey," You stiffen at the familiar voice. Pausing in your count, you stare at the half empty milk carton in the fridge, waiting for the person to speak again, praying it wasn't what you thought. "Sorry man, is ___ here?" With a deep sigh, your head falls down. Ni-ki peers to the side, giving you a questionable glance noticing your reaction and unaware of what to respond with.
Sending him a half smile, you stand up properly, exposing your hidden figure behind the counter. You make eye contact with Minjun, void of emotion and placing the fakest of smiles onto your lips as you spoke. "How can I help you?" Decidedly going with the faux customer service route, you place the book down you were previously using to record while his eyes trail over your figure.
"Hi," Was all he spoke, almost hesitant and you had to hold everything in you to not roll your eyes. "You're a manager here now?"
"Yeah stuff changes over a year," You respond dryly, not particularly seeing the point in his attempt in a conversation. Ni-ki lingered, seemingly wiping at the warming station but he listened carefully, aware of how unenthusiastic you seemed and found it best to stay close just in case with how stiff the air seemed. "Something you need from me?"
Minjun opens his mouth only to close it twice over. Not having the proper words to say, he purses his lips. "I've been wanting to see you," Was all he could come up with, sheepishly scratching the back of his neck. "Heard you still worked here and figured it'd be the best place to find you,"
"Yunjin told you to leave me alone and that I didn't want to talk," You reiterate, sending him a pointed look while he nods along. "So you came to my place of work knowing I didn't want to see you," Another nod. "Yeah, think that's called stalking,"
Ni-ki stiffens up at your words. "Noona," He mumbles, coming up significantly closer to your side while you shake your head. Ni-ki was tall, significantly more than you and a majority of the male population was shorter than him but he was still a kid. Besides, you didn't need any protection, Minjun wasn't a dangerous guy, just an idiot.
You hold up your hand, silently telling him that everything was fine. Reluctantly, he backed away, though he still lingered and his eyes stayed glued to Minjun who stood on the opposite side of the counter.
"I just wanted to talk," Minjun starts, voice seemingly sincere but you shake your head.
"There's nothing to talk about,"
"No means no dipshit, did you forget kindergarten rules already?" Jays' loud voice interrupted the stiff air, the attention brought to him as he emerged from the back room, a drying towel being throw over his shoulder and his apron slightly damp at the waist. He makes his way beside you, arms folded across his chest and puffing out the muscle and veins that peaked out from his rolled up sleeves. You nearly let out a laugh seeing the tough guy act your best friend pulled, almost wanting to take out your phone and take a picture but you had to admit, Jay was intimidating when he wanted to be.
"Lovely to see you again too Jongseong," Minjun sighs, plastering on a more than fake smile at the man who always expressed his distaste over him even when you were together. "Didn't think you'd be a part-time cafe guy,"
"You gonna order or not?" Jay cuts to the point, his patience thin enough as it was and especially with people he didn't like. You made a mental note to applaud him for being mean for once.
"If I order will you go away so I can talk to ___?"
"She has a boyfriend," Ni-ki interjects, standing beside Jay who nods along. "Plus she doesn't like you, so I can either take your order or you can leave,"
Minjun's eyes flicker to you once more. "A boyfriend," He repeats. "Thought you told Yunjin to tell me that just to get rid of me,"
"Not everything's about you man," Jay rolls his eyes, quick to answer for you. "Being desperate doesn't really work for you,"
"How long?" He ignores Jays jabs, eyes focused on you while you shrug. "Recent right, considering you haven't posted anything about him,"
"You really are a stalker," Ni-ki grimaces, not knowing the full details but hearing enough to make his judgements.
Sending the two behind you pointed looks, silently telling them that you'd handle it, you look back at Minjun with a small sigh. "It's not really any of your business, is it?"
"Well with me you were all about posting stories and making sure I posted you so it's just surprising,"
Narrowing your eyes, you pick at the skin of your nails at your side, something that Jay took note of in your old habits whenever you grew irritated. "Things change. Being with a guy who provides reassurance and treats you well does wonders," You hum, no longer bothering with decorum. "I don't have time to go back and forth with you. If you want to order they'll help you, if not, leave,"
Without giving him time to protest, you made your way to the back of the building ensuring he wouldn't be able to follow. Jay was quick to tag along leaving Ni-ki to fend for himself but knowing the young boy would be fine.
"He's fucking insane," Jay rambles as soon as the two of you were out of sight and behind the door that separated the front from the back. "To think that after all the shit he put you through you'd just, welcome him back? Delusional ass who doesn't know how to take no for an answer apparently—"
You nod along, taking a seat in the plush chair that was tucked away in the corner of the room beside the desk. You stared at the ground, focusing on counting the tile patterns allowing for Jay to ramble as he paced around the room. Taking note of your unusual silence, he stops mid step to look at you, a small sigh leaving his lips seeing how your bottom lip was tucked between your teeth and how you continued to pick at your hands.
Leaning down in front of you, Jay squats as his hands find way to your knees, leaning against you and forcing your line of vision to be filled by him. "You okay teeny?" He asks softly, the look of pity one you remember all too well and not what you wanted.
"I'm fine," You respond. And you were, for the most part. You just couldn't deal with your own emotions and Jay going back to treating you like a fragile piece of glass, it was exhausting enough having him be as attentive as he was in general. "Seriously, I'm fine. He's not worth my time anymore J, I just hope he got the hint and won't come back,"
Jay nods along, giving your knee a small squeeze in reassurance while you click your tongue. The door swings open, Ni-ki poking his head in the frame. "He left," The younger boy reassures, a small smile sent your way. "Am I allowed to ask noona?"
He looked concerned, an expression you had yet to see from Ni-ki and it emphasized just how young he seemed in your eyes with the innocent gleam. Gesturing for him to take a seat, you lean back in the chair while Jay settles himself on the ground. Peering up at the security cameras, ensuring to have a clear view of anyone were to walk in, you begin your story.
"Buckle up kid, you're getting a whole new level of lore from me tonight,"
"THIS IS SUCH bullshit," Jay huffs, eyes focused behind you as he takes a rather large bite of the apple he had been holding for the past ten minutes. "I can't believe he transferred back,"
"You know, it's kind of heartwarming how upset you are for me," You tease, significantly less worked up over the situation although it was less than ideal.
"No I agree, he's a fucking asshole," Yunjin adds, shooting daggers with looks that could kill causing you to raise a brow. "What? I hate him. We're not even really related, my aunt is divorcing his uncle and I only hung out with him cause of her so now it's free range since he's being a weird idiot,"
"Are we talking shit?" Sunoo draws the attention to himself, placing his bag down and smiling brightly as he clasped his hands under his chin. "Who about?" He sing-songs, voice dripping like honey and a grin that seemed so innocent but the content behind it was entirely different.
"Her stalker,"
"Whose stalker?" Heeseung interjects, Sunghoon trailing behind him to join the ever growing table. Jay and Yunjin's fingers immediately point toward you, silently answering his question causing the older boys brows to frown. "What happened now?"
As you opened your mouth to explain, a rather loud one cut you off once again. "Noona!" Ni-ki calls out, voice booming as he made his way toward you with Jungwon leading. Rather obviously pointing in the direction you spoke of, his eyes were wide seeing Minjun on the other end of the plaza with his own group of friends. "What the hell is he doing here?" The youngest asks as they reached the table, now having all curiosity peaked of those out of loop.
"Who?" With the last member of the group joining, Jake smiled widely as he weaseled his way beside you, placing a quick peck to your cheek as he sat.
"Everyone here now so I can talk?" You ask aloud, glancing over the group and doing a quick headcount. Over the past week, with the concept of you and Jake being together, your friend group had merged with his. Well your two friends, one of which you shared already, had joined in with Jake's while Ni-ki had been recently adopted in after finding Jungwon and him shared a general ed class. You had to admit, it was nice having more people to talk to, your life had certainly become more interesting in the best of ways.
"Do tell," Sunoo urges, far too excited to know more as the certified gossip of the group, though he was always the best at giving advice so it was two sides of the same coin.
"My ex transferred back here," You finally say with a small shrug. Jake tensed up from beside you, his brows pinching together as he leaned in closer to listen to your explanation. "He came by my work the other day trying to talk and I told him to get lost and then now he's here,”
"He's weird," Ni-ki adds in, his face pinched with disgust as he shook his head. "Desperate stalker behavior,"
"Who is it?" Sunghoon asked, looking in the general direction Jay pointed in but not particularly locking in on anyone.
"Kang Minjun," Yunjin answered without missing a beat.
Jake lets out a scoff, leaning closer into your side. "He's a fucking prick. Came into class today and wouldn't shut up during the lecture," Taking hold of the unpeeled orange you had left since it seemed like far too much work at the time, he peeled the skin off without a word, holding out the first piece to you before popping one into his mouth. "Professor Choi loved it, annoying as fuck when most of us just come since attendance is mandatory even though it's a gen-ed class,"
"We're the same year, he had always been popular," Heeseung shrugged. "Definitely annoying considering he used his looks for basically everything and acted cocky all the time,"
"The pretty one?" Sunoo asks, glancing around while he gained a few pointed looks for the comment. "What? My bad I've never seen him before," He pouts, hands up to show his lack of defense.
"Stalker," Ni-ki reminds, entirely ambient on making it knowing for everyone how uncomfortable he was to be around. "Doesn't matter what he looks like, he's still a weirdo,"
Jungwon lets out a small snort at his comments while Heeseung suddenly changes the subject. The conversation topic switching over to plans of a staycation in the near future while Jake absentmindedly holds out the last slice of orange for you to take.
“He comes over here and I’m throwing this apple at his head,” Jay warns, holding up the partially bitten fruit causing you to grimace.
“I don’t think he’s that dumb,” Sunghoon snickers. “And that’s gross, you can see all your teeth marks,”
“Who cares?” Jay retorts, beginning to bicker as the two change the topic for the second time in a near minute. Everyone else following along, paying no mind and rather comfortable in one another’s company.
You felt Jake’s arm wrap around your shoulders, pulling you closer to his side as he leans down to your ear. “You alright?” He mumbles, breath fanning against your skin causing you to shiver but nonetheless nod along.
You pull away slightly, enough to see his face while a small smile peaked at the corners of your lips. You had to admit, it wasn’t ideal and made you exhausted having to deal with your past. You put on a brave face, one enough for the others but for some reason, Jake could see through it more than you knew.
He let out a small sigh, a lingering kiss placed to the crown of your head as he did so. “You’re alright,” Jake spoke, the words intended to reassure you, fully certain of it for your sake and that seemed to be more than enough to help your nerves for the time being.
Letting out a puff of air, you allow yourself to melt into his side, settling in comfortably as your head tucked itself below his chin, leaned into his chest and arms caged around you for extra support. Your attention was brought back to the rest of your friends, eyes meeting with Yunjin who sat with an amused expression being one of the ones who knew everything while Heeseung had his nose scrunched up with disgust.

I love him so much he is the most complex and 5 dimensional character in the entire DHMIS series I loved that bit where he saved those orphans from a burning building.
2. Yellow Guy
Look at him. He is exquisite. He's made of nothing but sunshine and lemon easter peeps and his brain is made of candy-floss.
Fr he is my favourite, for multiple reasons which are very intricate and personal to my being and if I said them all you'd be reading for about five hours.
The main reason is because he's one of my favourite tropes concentrate.
I'm an absolute sucker for the type of charater that tries to make the best out of dark situations. He... tries. Maybe he's the way he is because he's just too stupid to understand, but I choose to beleive that he knows but... pretends he doesn't. At least a little bit.
Also his design is gorgeous. I never liked the colour yellow but now it's my favourite ^-^

3. Duck
My favourite lil' bitch. Skrunkly thang. Bastard.
What I like abt Duck is he's so widespread in his character.
Their like everyone's grumpy grandad, little old lady that knits you scarves for the winter, goofy uncle that lives in the woods with a shotgun and a bottle of whisky, sassy wine aunt, dad that reads the paper in the morning and has rthe worst dance moves ever, housewife mum from the fifties, little brother that wants you to look at his planes and moody big sister that wants you to gtfo of her room rn she's talking to Braydon shut up Braydons on the phone all in one.
He genuinely, desprately wants others to like him, to look up to him and see him as a friend. But they can never quite get there.
That's why they love anybody and everybody who loves them back, because not many do.
They're voice smells good also ^-^
4. Red Guy
He's only this far down bc he looks like a used tampon to me and I can't unsee it, so the other two I hold at a slightly higher pedastal bc of it.
He's the cool guy, laid back and sad, and I like his swag.
But he canonically hunts wales for sport and I don't have much to say about him really, I like Red but he's certainly not my favourite. That doesn'y mean I don't like him though.
5. Roy
Roy :) Worlds Worst Father. He has a cheese puff for a nose. He has contacted absolutely every sexually transmitted disease onto his person.

so far my day has been.. going.. nothing interesting besides my usual bonedo thoughts ^^;
theres sm jaehyun thoughts just flowing through my head atm- like jaehyun with the “dating my best friends sister” trope. honestly ive never been the BIGGEST fan of those because theres always gonna be some form of angst, but at the end of it, its most likely a happy ending.. BUT THIS IS OKAY CAUSE ITS MYUNG JAEHYUN!
im not sure if you’ve watched the WHY ver. of boynextdoor tonight, but a quick recap just in case!! the boys had to go around saying their favorite member, and jaehyun chose riwoo, causing riwoo to squeal and push jaehyun, making him to fall backwards.
so its safe to say riwoos a shy guy, alongside the rest of the other members- because from what IVE seen, they either brush jaehyuns flirting off or give him the most blankest stare..
so imagine!! jaehyun who meets riwoos younger sister, whose the complete opposite of her brother!
jaehyun w a flirty crush!!
Since riwoos more introverted, his younger sister would be the one initiating all the conversations. when she finally meets all the members, she notices jaehyuns face from the many viral videos shes seen of him flirting with her brother.
yn being the bold sister she is!! asks if she can also get the same treatment. jaehyun would most definitely not be used to this.. like all the other members react so differently to his random flirty lines but all of a sudden hes getting flirted back with?!
this caused him to just stand there with their hands like 🤝 and his face 😧. (until riwoo lightly slaps him on the face for even thinking abt it)
so there began the myungyn flirt train!! idk feel like jaehyun would hardly flirt back in fear of riwoo slapping him, until one night he thinks he sees riwoo up for a late night snack. hes barely awake but manages to snuggle up to him as always.
..but it doesn’t feel like riwoo.. riwoo doesnt tense up like this. and to his surprise its his sister!! in riwoos jacket!! he’d do that cartoony fallback and fall onto his butt.. he’d most definitely be scared too and apologize alot.
in short, that night jaehyun and the reader hang out and they grow significantly closer!! and the next following days they always meet at the kitchen to just talk about their day and such..
gradually, jaehyun just subconsciously flirts with her every now and then, and he always manages to end up surprised to get flirted back with..

BRICK I HAVE ANGST SUPERHERO MAYBE G/T MCYT FIC IDEAS FOR ARR AND SHIT-
Also night we met au info dump because I’ll never not think about them
Basically, in the first part(pretty much the prologue) Phil and Techno are both wanna be famous and rich (sorta not really Phil my mans just wants to provide for his family and keep them safe) they’ve been traveling for a long long time and they finally reach a cave filled woth warning signs. Techno insists he checks it out and he’ll be back, ignoring when Phil tells him that it isn’t safe and that they oughta go home to Kristen who has food made for them since she has Wilbur to take care of.
Phil is/was a treasure hunter but he also does/did monster hunting on the side. Kristen does/did have a bakery and cafe where people could request baked goods and coffees and stuff. Kristen had to put her friend Puffy in charge and Puffy gladly took over so Kristen could raise Wilbur till he was old enough to be alone without her and Phil. Techno doesn’t get along well with the police at all and the chief of police, Sam, rather him in a prison but Phil always covers for him because the town needs people to protect it from outside threats and the best warrior they had was Techno.
Puffy has an adopted child named Niki who she brings with her to the bakery. The governer of the town, Bad, has his grievances with Phil and Techno ‘protecting’ the town from outside threats but he lets them continue because of the point Phil brings up time and time again. That point being ‘no one else is trying to keep anyone safe. I wont stand idly and let things from outside our homes hurt mine and any other family’
Grian is Phil’s estranged brother and rarely travels to the town of Esemtria but he checks in from time to time on his brother and his brothers wife. He also makes sure to tell anyone of any possible problems they may encounter soon or whether the spring is coming early or the winter is coming sooner that expected. He lives in the far smaller but more advanced cove of Hermitville, the name chosen by the locals who call it home to spook off any invaders because no one wants what they think is a hobos town full of hermits
Schlatt is a disgraced politician from Manberg. He hopes to find success in taking the government from what he assumes are a bunch of country hicks in butt fuck no where who need help from him. He plans a take over of the government but it’s not a hostile one.
Skeppy and Sapnap are two hybrid outsiders who are terrified someone will expose their hybrid origins only for Bad, secretly a hybrid himself, to take them in as family.
Jack is a baby demon found by Puffy who decides to take him in a long woth Niki because a parents takes in whomever needs them.
Eret and Dream are both normal babies that belong to normal houses in the village although many would note that Eret hasn’t opened their eyes yet even being a few months old by this point.
Above is an information dump on the people living/who have once lived in the town or around the town named Esemtria. All people are described by the conditions and the times of past Esemtria or when the prologue/part I of ‘Night We Met’ occurs. Some characters may be alive in part II/chapter I while others may be lost to time, missing, or dead.
[Esemtria is the name of the town that the entirety of ‘Night We Met’ takes place in/around. While there are mentions of Hermitville they will have sparse appearances but will have numerous mentions.]

watched all of the untamed / cql in two weeks after my friend 1 told me abt mdzs a hundred years ago and my friends 2 and 3 tried to get me into cql for like two whole years and there are.

very first scene is a very dramatic death in the middle of nightmare battle on sith planet land . i will forget abt it in the next tenish episodes and then will be very surprised when it becomes Extremely Painful

It establishes Good Student lan wangji, wei wuxian as curious and questioning and not afraid of taboo, lwj sees that wwx is not, in fact, a dumb ass hes just a Dumbass, shows us the audience (esp. a western audience) how shocking the idea of disrupting the dead/dying and controlling resentful energy actually is, the theoretical foreshadow arguing, everyone else like ‘shUT UP’, “and how could you ensure that the resentful energy would obey you and not hurt other?” “well i havent thought that far” and of course, lan qiren just straight up lobbing a hard object at wwx head,. chefs kiss

and its JUST, all they ever wanted was to do good but then... war. and trauma. and hubris.
jiang cheng on the ground clearly thorn between what to do and feel is a Mood, lets just say
i was already crying when jyl showed up, but if i wasnt-
i suffered SO MUCH through this series trying to figure out WHY jc would kill wwx. and when i understood. its somehow not as bad as i thought and also MUCH MUCH WORSE

lwj is significantly less emotionally repressed in the present and its delightful. hes just ALL IN with wwx. and not just in the ‘i would and have killed various men and risked my reputation for you’ but also ‘ur tired here have a drink i brought it up cause i know u like it and it want you to be happy, always’

and just filling in the blanks how lan zhan searched for him. for all of those 16 years he searched for him and was punished for it and raised a-yuan, the only survivor of the burial mounds settlement, as his own in gusu......
and jiang cheng. being the tough love uncle . having raised the yunmeng jiang clan from the rubble all alone, his whole family dead, some of it on the blame of his own brother, his siblings, his closest friends gone.......and only jin ling there needing his guidance.
THE PARALLEL BETWEEN JIN LING BEING A LIFELINE FOR JIANG CHENG AND A-YUAN FOR LAN WANGJI AFTER THE BATTLE AT THE NIGHTLESS CITY
great now i made myself sad
and like . the fact! that lwj and jc dislike each other!!. jc projects blame onto him for wwx both “leaving” him and indirectly causing their families deaths and when hes so consumed by it he makes wwx an enemy, lwj is there now? trying to protect him?? and lwj, who can never understand the pain that wwx , indirectly or not put jc through, but who was right there when jc tried to kill him and will never allow him to hurt wwx again. and how they like. in a way project blame of their tragedies onto each other while dealing with some type of survivor guilt and in their own way still loving wwx through it all??? amd in way its kind of fundamentally selfish but also tragically understandable? and like when u put it against the fact that after he disappears during the sunshot campaign they were looking for him together and fought together??
JUST. THE CHARACTERS. AND THE RELATIONSHIPS IN THIS. MAN. UGH. GOD.
and like i think thats what makes it so good? its such a sad and painful and violent story, edgy even, but its compelling bc at the center of it there are all of these relationships and different types of love and hope and. :( i love it

jin ling just has that Was Raised by JC energy tho lmao i love him
babie cultivator squad is the perfect ammount of cute and comedic relief while still bearing the weight? of the narrative in a way, both from sizhui and jin lings existences, and also. like. how do i put this. they feel hopeful? they were born after a war, they came of age at a time of relative peace, they dont hold on so closely to the resentments of their parents/father figures, they are specifically shown as more accepting and open minded. and its like.... Hope for the future

Finral vs Langris Part 2 is probably one of my favourite fights of the whole show. Not because it’s super showy or anything, but because it’s so meaningful. Despite what a little dick Langris has been, Finral doesn’t give up on him. He loves his brother and is not going to let him be overtaken. When he screams “Come here Langris!” and literally punches him back to reality, it’s honestly one of the best moments 🤣 and when they are knocked out and like they are reaching for each other 😭 there’s a lot more I could say about them but I don’t want to spoil anything coming up!
Gauche is a damn liar he literally loves everyone, so stop pretending you don’t, Gauche!
You literally mentioned so many fights I can’t comment on them all 🤣 but yea, so many great moments for our favourite characters! But I will say that Dorothy was a surprise for me, I was not expecting her to be so bubbly haha.

Prompt game: Hestia/Tumble, mafia au, friends to lovers, "you know I would do anything for you." Story: Tumblebrutus protects Hestia when a meeting between her family and a rival mafia gang goes wrong.

The meeting between the Deuteronomy family and the Pekes had been going well, at first.
Hestia, her siblings, and her cousins had been allowed to sit in on the meeting, and Tumblebrutus had hovered behind her the entire time, his brother standing behind Ares, and Mungojerrie and Rumpleteazer standing shoulder-to-shoulder behind Sekhmet and Jubilee.
Without any warning, however, one of the Pekes had made a remark beneath their breath, likely directed towards Athena, Demeter, or Serafina, based off of how the trio of Deuteronomy brothers tensed up almost instantly.
The room had exploded with angry shouts and arguments, any peace completely destroyed as the two families shouted at one another.
It was startling, to say the least, the sudden influx of noise making Hestia jump. Tumblebrutus just shifted closer, placing his hand on her shoulder, her best friend giving her a comforting look.
After another sharp remark, Bombalurina, always a silent shadow behind Tugger, Serafina, and Mistoffelees, looked towards the younger members of the family.
“Out.” she said sharply. Tumblebrutus instantly grabbed Hestia’s hand and pulled her up, wrapping his arm around her back as he led her out of the room, followed by her siblings and cousins.
Just before they left the room, one of the Pekes stepped towards Hestia, and Tumblebrutus immediately pushed her behind him, drawing himself up to stare down the slightly taller rival.
"I’d recommend you stepping back.” he said, his eyes blazing. After a tense moment, the Peke stepped back, a slight smirk on their face, and Hestia grabbed onto Tumblebrutus’ hand, the two walking out.
“Thanks, Brutus.” Hestia said quietly.
Tumblebrutus nudged her with his shoulder, a warm smile appearing on his face. “People will have to get through me if they want to say something to you.”
Hestia’s cheeks turned pink, and her hand tightened around Tumblebrutus’ as they entered the living room. She took a seat on one of the armchairs, and Tumblebrutus perched on the arm, his arm resting across the back of the chair.
“I was really hoping for you to hit them.” Rumpleteazer said, pouting slightly as she plopped on the ground, leaning back against Sekhmet’s legs.
“That would have been unwise.” Hades replied, his voice just a touch scolding as he looked over at Hestia, who sent him a look, letting him know that she was, indeed, okay.
Jemima let out a breath, falling down onto one of the couches. “Do all their meetings end up like that? I don’t think I’d ever be able to listen to the Pekes for that long.”
Iris flopped on top of her cousin, making the younger girl squeak. “I knew as soon as they said something about Mama and the aunties that everything was gonna go south.”
“Do you think we’ll have to deal with them when we’re old enough?” Ares asked his older sister and oldest cousin. As always, the young members of the family looked to Sekhmet and Hades, a second nature to them all after it was announced the two would take over the family one day.
“Probably.” Sekhmet said after sharing a look with Hades. “But if Rumpus stays in their ranks for long enough, we might end up having enough information on them that we can actually keep them from trying to make those insane demands.”
Hades nodded. “But until then, I don’t think we’ll be sitting in on any more meetings with them.”
“I mean, they definitely know not to mess with Tumble and Hettie.” Pouncival said, a teasing look in his eye as he glanced over towards his brother. Tumblebrutus very politely flipped his twin off, making their friends burst into laughter.
Hestia giggled and tugged Tumblebrutus’ arm, pulling him down into the chair with her so that they were both squished into the seat.
“As long as I’ve got you as my shadow, I don't think we’ll have anything to worry about.” she said quietly, and Tumblebrutus looked down at her with a shy smile, and she quickly placed a kiss on his cheek, blushing furiously. “You’re the best, Brutus.”
Tumblebrutus’ smile widened, and he wrapped his arms around Hestia’s waist, pulling her close and resting his chin on her shoulder. “I’ve always got your back, Essie.”

arthur is a kind of person who lives heavily on false pretenses . like he projects this image bc its an image that he can control nd he jsut Rolls w it , but hes actually someone who likes 2 tease his friends nd be friendly to them ,, hes got Issuez nd is very much the type of person to be like ‘o lol im ok :-)...’ nd prioritize the needs of others

💝 What kinds of gifts does your OC recieve from their partner(s)? What kinds of gifts do they give in return?
so… honestly, duncan is kind essentially a sugar d*ddy dkfdjk i HATE that terminology/trope but, here we are. he loves to spoil her and he absolutely lives for showering her in gifts. i mean i guess what separates him from the trope is that nadaia isnt broke or anything, she’s fairly well off, and duncan doesn’t buy her things in order to get anything from it, so theres no manipulative element to it. mostly, he just enjoys buying her really frivolous shit she does NOT need. basically whenever he sees nadaia looking longingly at clothes, books, weapons etc he will usually end up buying it discreetly in order to surprise her later - he’s very big on surprises too ! he has also shelled out on some of her more recent tattoos, mostly because he loves her and loves the way they look on her, but also secretly because he LOVES watching how embarrassed she gets when someone asks her to explain the meaning behind her tattoos, especially the more impulsive/meaningless/stupid ones jdkjdsk
as for nadaia, she tends to go for the more meaningful presents, which are usually arcane/historical items that she picks up on her adventures. she always keeps an eye out for old relics or rare books for duncan to comb over for the next few months when she returns. also,,, duncan is an absolute varric tethras Stan, he is a complete dork about all of his books actually. so whenever nadaia is able to see him, she always tries to snag a signed copy of one of his books to bring back to duncan. he absolutely lost his mind the first time she did it, so its one of her favourite gifts to give him.
💘 What do they love most about their partner(s)? What do their partner(s) love most about them?
duncan loves nadaia’s bravery and passion. she inspires him to constantly be better and try harder, and she’s never one for sugarcoating things which REALLY helps him, since most people do and it only serves to make him feel powerless. he loves her adventurous spirit and her ability to ask tough questions and challenge established ideas, which helps him feel more confident about doing the same. and,, i also have to mention he is super into her tattoos, he loves tracing over them and studying them - kissing them too depending on the situation,, u kno ;;;;;;;;;;;;)
as for nadaia, she’s consistently overwhelmed by his compassion and intelligence, and his surprising warmth. on the surface he comes accross as a shy, introspective and melancholy person, she being one of the few people who can make him REALLY laugh always warms her heart. when he comes out of his shell, he is fair more confident, witty and suave than he lets on, so she appreicates how layered he is i guess lol. also ! he’s probably the least judgemental people shes ever met, and one of the only people she trusts to confide in completely. for this reason he helps her become a more empathetic person, just by listening to the way he talks about other people, and the high regard he seems to hold almost everybody in.

surprisingly, duncan is actually the best kisser ! tho u wouldnt know it from looking at him dsfjkfdj he’s has a lot of,, casual lovers though? so its more a matter of him having more experience than anything. anyway, he tends to be a very controlled smoocher, and holds himself back a lot, whereas what nadaia lacks in experience she makes up in with wholehearted enthusiasm lmao

I hope this letter finds you well, dear friend. Were this regarding any other matter, I would open with pleasantries - inquire as to how your studies are going; how you are finding your current stay in Denerim; what you think of Fereldan cheese and our abysmal weather. However, I am fortunate that we are old friends, you and I, and more fortunate still that we both hold a shared detest for small talk. So I will refrain, and hope you can forgive me for speaking my mind so abruptly.
To speak plainly, my reasons for penning this letter stem from concerns I have about my brother, Duncan. I apologize for not discussing said matters with you in person, but I sense that this is a … sensitive dillemma, one that requires discretion, if such a thing could ever exist in court. I am aware - and albiet, pleasantly surprised - to see you and he have become rather close over the last several months. I speak for all in House Theirin when I say we are delighted to have you stay as our guest in the castle, at the behest of our future king.
Nonetheless, I wish to share with you that I grow increasingly concerned with the odd manner in which my brother carries himself while in your presence. If I could be so bold, I do suspect that Duncan may have … certain feelings of affection towards you, feelings I fear may cause him undue pain in the future. On more than one occasion I have caught him staring at you, while you were otherwise distracted, in ways I am afraid were most … unchaste, for lack of a better word.
Truthfully, there have been countless incidents of late that cause me suspicion. The prince is far more distracted than normal (no small feat, I assure you) and yet seems utterly fixated whenever he shares a room with you. I have caught secret, strange smiles and even the occasional blush here and there, and what is most alarming is that he seems to be losing sleep over this - he awakens late in the day and appears fatigued, while still carrying that ridiculous smile of his as if he hadn’t a care in the world!
Lady Lavellan - Nadaia. I am confiding in you about this because you are a dear friend of mine, as you are a dear friend to Duncan, also. I believe his affections for you are harmless, and I do not mean to warn you against him or give you cause for resentment. I merely wish to ask a favour of you - to let him down easy, if possible. Despite his misplaced affections, I have not seen my brother this happy in a very long time, and I know that you mean a great deal to him, as I am sure he does to you. Perhaps you might find a way to delicately address these feelings to him in the next few days … to clarify the nature of your relationship, so that he might better work to serve his family and his country. You are a wonderful woman, and I know he will see reason if it is coming from you.

What's your general opinion on the first 5 pokeani girls prior to SM? I mean I obviously know Misty is your favorite, but just curious what you think of the others. You just listed what you thought of the recent Sun/Moon girls in the anime, so it would be nice to hear your thoughts on the older ones.
Misty — I really love how much dimension there was to Misty’s character, how she wasn’t boxed into a trope or even a stereotype. She’s The Tomboyish Mermaid (like, that’s literally her Gym Leader Title in the games), but although she does have some tomboyish traits like keeping her hair short, wearing shorts and kicks, and liking some rather … unusual pokémon (looking at her love for tentacool and tentacruel here), she’s also still allowed to have and champion feminine qualities as well without ever having that called into question. She can really want her own set of princess dolls, and love dressing up and looking cute, and get daydreamy over romance and the like without being doubted or treated like she’s lesser, and I really appreciate that. I also really appreciate the fact that she was considered to be one of Ash’s coaches from beginning to end, that although they were rivals at times, although they were friends and though they clearly had crushes on each other (yes, it was implied mutually in the Japanese version as well), Misty was still the more experienced trainer at the time they met and this was remarked upon even near the end of Johto. I do wish that Misty had been allowed to do more as the seasons went on—I feel that, especially in Johto, she was often sidelined in favor of Ash—but this was a fate that also befell Brock and Tracey in the OS, and so I don’t consider it a slight against Misty’s character in particular. MIsty was compassionate and brave, spunky and sarcastic, could at times be immature and impatient, but also had nice insight and patience at times. Misty was great. I loved her.
May — I really find that May was #relatable in a lot of ways. She was a brand new trainer (and Ash was sort of her coach, given that he was the more experienced one for once, which was a nice change), she loves food and never misses a chance to get a good meal in (and god help you if you stand between her and food), she has an annoying little brother that she still loves with all her heart and will protect, and initially she sets out on her journey not because she wants to be a trainer, but because she wants to travel. I think the fact that she didn’t like pokémon at first wasn’t very relatable, and I wish they had given her a better reason for it (I found the pokéball story to be a bit weak—wouldn’t that make her afraid of pokéballs instead?), but I think the fact that she just wanted to travel and have an adventure, that she didn’t really know what she wanted to do at first, that she found her goal along the way and fumbled her way through to success was pretty relatable, especially for kids who had just found the series and really were starting anew with AG. I think that May was really down to earth and overall was a great character, and even though I know some people took issue with the fact that she was so great at being a Coordinator right off the bat, I personally don’t mind that. She has a natural knack for it, and I think that’s something to be celebrated instead. May is awesome, and I love her, too.
Dawn — Dawn is the first true deuteragonist that the PokéAni has ever had and I think that was pretty excellently done. I love the fact that the heroine of the show finally got to be a true heroine, rather than just being a side character to Ash, and that she got a fully fleshed out story arc and her own character development and everything. Her relationship with Ash was downright adorable; I love how they were best friends, how they sometimes squabbled but also supported each other, how they always gave each other high-fives (and wasn’t High Touch!! a duet between them?). I also really do think that Dawn’s loss arc was really well done, how—in an inversion of May’s story—she always had her heart set on being a Coordinator, her mother was a Top Coordinator and so she thought that she could achieve that goal as well, and yet she was met with loss, after loss, after loss that crushed her confidence. I find the fact that she tried to keep a smile on during all of this and tried to insist that everything was fine to be pretty relatable, too. Overall, Dawn was pretty fantastic, and to be incredibly honest (and I mean no offense to Brock when I say this), she and Ash could have carried DP by themselves. Brock was really unnecessary and actually kind of suffered by being part of that squad. I’m sorry, Brocko, but it’s true. No offense. But yeah, Dawn is great, and I love her, too. (And yes, I do also ship Pearl. Still prefer Poke, but Pearl is a great ship.)
Iris — Iris gets so much hate in fandom and she honestly deserves none of it, do you hear me? None of it. I love Iris. I love how she teases Ash (and honestly, it’s just teasing, like ffs stop roasting her over the coals for it when practically all of Ash’s other companions have teased him at times as well), I love how she is free-spirited and brave, I love how she still has fears that hold her back (ice-type pokémon heyooo), and insecurities that make it difficult for her to achieve her goal (which is living up to her in-game Gym Leader Title, “The Girl Who Knows the Hearts of Dragons”), but that she eventually manages to overcome them and bond with Excadrill and later Dragonite. Iris is brave and spirited, but she’s also compassionate and gentle deep down. It just takes her time to access that part of herself and open up so that she can connect with the dragons she’s meant to connect with. And you know? Sometimes her teasing does go too far, but she acknowledges when this happens and makes sure that she makes it right (such as when she accidentally hurt Cilan’s feelings, but made a remark within his earshot about how he’s great and they all liked having him around anyway, and he bounced back as a result). Iris is adorable and lovable and I think the writing team did do a good job with her, even if her ending was rushed and awkward and weird. Love that girl.
Serena — Serena is a character that I think had a lot of potential, and that I do like in some ways, but ultimately I feel that she was rather shafted by the writing staff, who a.) didn’t know what they wanted to do with her for most of the XY series, and b.) created her to be a Love Interest™, which is a separate thing from creating her as a character who also happens to have a love interest. This one actually has some legitimate criticism (aimed at the writing staff, not Serena herself—I actually feel that Serena was a victim of the writing staff and deserved better, tbqh), but since that can be seen as negative, I’m putting the rest under a cut.
Serena was created, in the words of the producers, so that they could tell the story from the perspective of a girl who had feelings for Ash. This means that, from the get-go, the only concept behind Serena’s character was that of Love Interest™. This is different from, say, Misty, who did develop a crush on Ash as time went on, but who was created first to be a Gym Leader and a trainer with experience who could help Ash along the way, and also a Gym Leader who aspired to master water-type pokémon. Misty’s crush on Ash was incidental; it happened over time as a result of their interactions. Serena’s crush on Ash was part of her childhood backstory because it’s literally the focal point of her entire character, it’s why she was written into the show. Everything else—her personal desires outside of Ash, her goals and objectives—came secondary. Whereas May’s lack of a goal outside of “I want to travel and save the world!” felt like a reasonable part of her character, Serena’s lack of a goal ended up feeling like the writers honestly forgot to come up with one for her, because their sole concern was getting her to travel with Ash so that they could have her there to swoon over him, and that’s not cool. She deserved better than that.
Now, I’m not saying that she couldn’t have had a crush on him. Ash has had a myriad of characters crushing on him over the course of the series, to the point where even back in the OS Misty was far from the only person to like him. For fucksake, Ash’s own Bayleef is in love with him. A freaking Latias fell for him, like—that’s not the issue here. The issue here is that I feel as if the writers were so focused on having Serena swoon over him that they forgot to develop her outside of him. When they finally started to do that with the Showcases (and those are another issue in and of themselves, again for several reasons), it was inconsistent and often out of focus. The Master Class Showcase was rather rushed because, in all honesty, that’s not what the writers cared about with regards to Serena. Serena’s dreams, her goals, her ambitions—to the writing staff, it felt like they put that in there because they had to have her do something, but like it wasn’t really that important to them. And I feel that we really see this in the last episode, where, yes, she decides to go to Hoenn to try her hand at being a Coordinator (much better than being a Performer tbqh), but just before she leaves she tells Ash that she’s going to be a much better woman by the next time they meet and kisses him. The writers have said that this is supposed to imply that they’ll be married in the future. Well, okay—but a.) why is THAT the last thing you want to leave us with as far as Serena is concerned, and b.) Ash was still never shown throughout the entire saga to reciprocate her feelings, not even in ever feeling jealousy over her, so like?? Again, if this really was the ending you wanted for her, couldn’t you at least show the boy liking her back over the course of the saga in something other than shiny eyes in the last scene? Doesn’t she deserve at least that? Well, in their eyes, no, because it wasn’t really about Serena and her feelings, it was about making Ash look special by having a girl fawning over him, which is gross af.
Ughhh, I’m sorry—I really don’t want to rant about this, and this is technically supposed to be about Serena rather than the ship, but because Serena was created for the sole purpose of the ship it’s difficult to talk about one and not the other. In truth, I think Serena had so much potential. I like that she was stubborn about what she wanted to do, that she didn’t let her mother dictate her life, that although she loved her mother and knew that Grace wanted was best for her, she refused to give in and settle down to be a rhyhorn racer just because Grace wanted her to. I love that she has a natural big sister instinct, that she bonded with Bonnie and was shown taking care of her. I love that she flubbed the Showcases at first, but that she resolved to do better, that she cut her hair and decided that since she had her heart set on this, that she was going to see it through until the end and get those Keys, her own way. I think that she’s clever, creative, and genuinely sweet. I like that we see her open up over time, that while at first she was just there for Ash, she came to really care for Bonnie and Clemont as well (even if her relationship with Clemont could have been much better developed). And lbr, that episode where she cosplayed Ash was adorable af, and I loved her relationship with Manon.
Overall, I really do think Serena’s good, and I think that she had the potential to be a great character. However, I think the writing staff fucked her over by creating her to be The Love Interest™ and showing determined reluctance to think of her outside of that role. Serena deserved better. Misty might not have gotten to do a whole lot with regards to her goal, but at least she was allowed to exist as her own person first, and someone with a crush on Ash second. Serena was not given that, and it’s a damn injustice, especially since, again, they put in absolutely zero effort into developing the ship from Ash’s side, because Serena’s feelings truly did not matter to them. It’s a shame and she deserved better.
Also, Misty and Serena would be adorable af girlfriends, I’m js.
