Hey, I hope this question doesn't come off as rude, but I am a bit confused. You keep referring to "those fonts" on discord being bad for screen readers. And I scrolled down, but I didn't see what fonts that was referring to? I may habe missed it. Is it just all the fancy fonts or a certain group in general? Does using the italics or bold options mess with screen readers as well?
I don't do discord RP, but I would hate to have made a discord rules section or any discord section hard to read for aesthetic purposes. Are there any other common things you noticed on discord that messes with a screen reader?
oh no worries! so there's a trend of using generated fonts like the ones from this website and other symbols/texts that you wouldn't find on your keyboard, which really messes with screen readers and can be hard to read in general. my screen reader also doesn't differentiate between bold/italic. (but i think that is a settings thing potentially)
in general, i think avoiding generated text and not having important information in images and/or graphics is an excellent start. as this article explains, most screen reader users are used to them not being perfect, so it's less about writing for them and more about writing for everyone. so for example: explaining words like godmodding and metagaming for new players, using default fonts over generated ones, not making font extra small. all of that stuff plays into accessibility and is helpful for people!

You're welcome! It was a great story! (reading out of season 😅)
I sure hope that wasn't the first fic where I left kudos 😅 since I read and enjoyed quite a few of your fics before, especially during Trektober. (And your TOS ones too!)

What about a ring of pink? around the pupils of both eyes? or like the edges? that could be neat
Tumblr media
Honestly, that’s not a bad idea either.
I did see a lot of peeps change his eye-color/tone completely BUT I honestly am too attached to my HC eyes for him to change them completely. Hence, the whole gradient idea just now, which I think I’ll stick with.
Cause...it looks like a pretty pretty sunset for the golden one and I can’t resist that idea +w+ But the ring is a neat concept too ;3

I love your art so much!!! I've also been starting to paint with gouache, and I'd love to know a little more about your process! What kind of paints do you use, do you sketch first or start with paint, do you paint in layers over several day or all at once?
Hi and thank you! I hope you don't mind me answering this publicly and apologies for length, but:
MY ART PROCESS!
Supplies: I use winsor and newton gouache and arches cold press paper blocks, usually 140 lbs (the lime green ones) and sometimes 300 lbs (the teal green ones). Even though this paper comes pre-stretched in blocks, I actually take the sheets off and stretch them myself because I've found arches' glue isn't as strong as it used to be. This is how you get watercolor paper to lay flat! I recommend youtubing some videos on how to do it -- there's a lot of great tutorials out there. Also, I use princeton brushes, and kraft paper tape and these boards to stretch my paper. (these aren't affiliate links, I just shop at blick)
A word about art supplies: these are the exact tools I use but everyone uses supplies differently and two people with the exact same supplies might get different results! A lot of it is about what works for you and what you like, so I always suggest that gouache/watercolor beginners just buy a few tubes from a couple of different paint companies and some small pieces of paper from different manufacturers to see what you like. Just changing one ingredient in the above has created massively different results for me, but maybe that'll end up being something you'd like! The first step in learning a new medium imo is to play. Just have fun!
ALSO: gouache isn't super light permanent, check your tubes for which ones hold up to sunlight. Here is winsor and newton's color chart explaining which ones will fade when exposed to sunlight -- all manufacturers will give you this. I only use the colors rated A and AA, and I still frame my pieces with UV glass just to be safe. Not all gouache is re-wettable, but winsor and newton is. I just put it in my palettes and refill my palettes if it runs low. AND SOME PAINT IS TOXIC. A lot of paints have cadmium and cobalt in them. I don't use any of the toxic colors, but if you do, make sure you don't eat while working and wash your hands thoroughly afterwards. This information is also usually available on manufacturer's websites. As more people are rejecting cadmium paint, you'll see more tubes labeled things like cadmium-free yellow. This is why. More artists should be aware that their tools can be dangerous. You don't need that many tubes of paint to begin, just a warm and cool red, warm and cool yellow, warm and cool blue, white and black. I have around 50 colors and use 20 regularly. I always mix all my colors myself, and never use straight tube paint. Most of my colors have about 5-6 different tube colors mixed together. If you use re-wettable paint a tube of paint will last you years; even as a professional I only buy new paints every 5 years or so.
Process: I ALWAYS start with a sketch first. Not everyone has to, but because I do illustration work -- where sometimes a client gets input on a drawing -- I always do a lot of preliminary work before I even begin to paint. At this point, even my personal work usually involves the exact same process:
I start with a 3" or so thumbnail that I scan (left; I traced it quickly digtally for clarity to myself here) and then either clean up digitally or print out and clean up traditionally with tracing paper (right):
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Then I scan the cleaned sketch in and color rough it digitally (left, this was for a gallery show, so no one had to approve my color roughs, so it's messy!) then I transfer my sketch to my paper (with either carbon transfer paper or a light table), stretch my paper, and paint (right):
Tumblr media Tumblr media
I obviously changed my mind about the color of the ribbon in the trees, ha, and made everything a lot more vibrant. The benefit again of gallery work is no pre-approval!
You are correct, I paint in a series of washes, going from lightest to darkest, where I apply the same color beneath all shapes that are the same warmth (cools under all upcoming cools, warms under all upcoming warms). I paint a piece usually in one or two days, depending on complexity. I didn't take pictures of the above painting, but here's a different painting to show you a little bit what I mean:
Tumblr media Tumblr media
I painted the peach color under everything (and twice for skin tones), and the gray color of the sky under everything that would be grayish (the rocks, trees, her pants, her skirt, and coat). I do this to stop me from getting darker lines where two different colors butt up against each other, and also for color harmony. I have step by step photos of this in my process stories highlight on my instagram; also check my FAQ and tip highlights for more info on all this stuff. Most pieces take around 25-30 washes before I start adding in the details (sometimes I add in face details early though because if I mess those up it's not worth finishing the rest of the painting! 😅)
All this might seem like a lot of work (...it is) but I do it so that I can show clients previews of the final piece and so I don't have to repaint the finals. I also used to pre-test all of my washes on scrap paper like this:
Tumblr media
I still recommend doing this if you're just beginning! But at this point I only do it when testing techniques because I know my paints really well. (the above was my test for the pine boughs in this piece)
Painting by far is the longest part of the process, so I do more work up front to not have to do it twice. Every piece takes about 6-24 hrs of actual work time to produce. Stretching watercolor paper takes about 24 hrs to dry, and because I sell most of my originals in galleries, they need to be flawless, so planning ahead is useful and in the end saves me time.
And to conclude this novel of an explanation, don't be overwhelmed by all the information I've given you! I put it here so that people at various stages of their artistic journey can maybe find something useful in it. But seriously, the first step to learning how to paint whether it's traditionally or digitally is just to have fun. Try it out, see what's working and what isn't, and then try to solve specific issues that you're struggling with. I've been doing this for a loooooong time at this point, but here's my first watercolor piece from when I was re-teaching myself how to paint traditionally nine years ago:
Tumblr media
Obviously, I was destined for greatness. Ha, yeah, no. If you scroll back through my tumblr archive, you can see me learning how to use these paints in real time. And keep in mind that I'd been working digitally for years before then, and years before that where I didn't post my work online at all.
So for anyone who needs to hear it: there's no such thing as talent, just hard work, patience, and trying again and again and again...and sometimes again. What I do is a skill and anyone can learn it. Sometimes, progress is slow. I'm 38. I only really feel like my art was half-way decent starting a few years ago, but I've been making art my entire life, and I went to art school at 18. 20 years later I'm kind of figuring it out.
The best advice I can give, whether it's about art or not, is find the thing you love so much that you'll keep at it even when you suck at it, because most skills you'll suck at to begin with -- and perhaps for a long time. I sucked at art for yeeeaaaaarrrrs. On top of the usual learning curve, I struggled with fine motor control and dexterity. But I loved it so much I kept trying every time I failed. If I can do it, so can all of you, no matter what stage of art you're at now, and no matter how old you are.
Anyway, thank you to those still reading this deep in. I wish you all the best on your artistic journey. Art can kick your butt sometimes, but it's also pretty dang rewarding 💛

Hiii I hope youre doing alright. <3 I remember you mentioning you use a certain mouth wash to help with covid protection and Im just wondering what mouth wash it was? Im not sure what ingredients to look for so I figured Id ask. Tysm for the help! I hope this isnt too annoying to respond to. 😅🙈
Hi I love asks like these bc I love sharing information and this is straightforward n easy to answer!! I hope you don't mind me answering publicly bc I think more people should know about this!!
Cetylpyridinium chloride (CPC) is the mouthwash ingredient that kills covid virus in the mouth and upper throat!
Ideally paired with other preventatives, it can drastically reduce risk since it reduces the amount of live virus at the point of infection. I use it right after being around people I don't live with, and during long events I have a travel bottle in my purse to refresh every couple hours. I use this mouthwash (under $4 for a big bottle): https://www.walmart.com/ip/Equate-Alcohol-Free-Multi-Action-Antiseptic-Oral-Rinse-Zesty-Mint-33-8-fl-oz/26441079
(If you end up buying it elsewhere, double check for "Cetylpyridinium chloride" in the active ingredients. Some search results are misleading.)
Nose sprays can also help mitigate covid risk: https://www.okdoomer.io/nose-sprays-offer-a-last-line-of-defense/?ref=ok-doomer-newsletter
Fun fact, even if you DO get covid, studies have shown the fewer virus particles you're exposed to when you first get infected, the less severe the infection itself is likely to be for you!!

spotify cracked instructions?
ooh I hope you don't mind me answering this publicly bc I have been meaning to make this post for ages
Free Cracked Spotify (No Ads) 🏴‍☠️
okay so this works for Android straight up and for apple with slight modifications. if you need help troubleshooting reply to this post or shoot me a DM. this does Not give you offline play, but it gives you all the other premium features - most importantly no ads and unlimited skips
1. Delete Spotify
just uninstall it from your phone or the rest won't work. don't forget this step.
2. find a cracked file
on android these are APKs - I'll link some websites at the end but like any pirate site they're taken down all the time, so you might need to do some hunting. I don't know any reputable sites for apple but the file type is IPA on iOS. I usually just duckduckgo for "cracked Spotify apk" and go with a site I recognise, like apkmody or apkpure
3. download the file
make sure you have adblocker installed or there will be fake download buttons etc.
4. install the file
make sure you have uninstalled the app store Spotify first or this Will Not Work. I know that's the first step but people do forget this.
you might get an auto-install prompt when you download it, or you might need to track it down in your file manager, but it should just install with whatever software you already have on there. you will get a big scary warning telling you that this is a Virus and its doing Scary Things - this is normal, just dismiss it and continue with the install
5. log back in
just click on the newly installed app, log back in with your normal account, and you're all set! it will need updating every so often bc most of them don't automatically update like app store apps - just uninstall and reinstall if there's an update you want. Bonus! if you hate an update just keep the old version!

links to sites in the reblog so the post doesn't get eaten

I appreciate you being the sacrifice to offer a differing POV. I wouldn't ever voice my opinion publicly because people are so unbelievably cruel, but I appreciate your willingness to. It feels isolating to not immediately want to condemn and distance myself, and read take after take that's nothing but "feel shame." To be able to read at least one take that's not pure denial, but offers other insight is a balm.
Maybe I too will feel different eventually, but being told "feel this or else you're bad" drives me nuts in these situations. My feelings are slow, can I please have room to feel them?
As you said, we are multi faceted entire people and I do not want to be told I'm a misogynist or abuse apologist for not immediately condemning someone. It's tiring.
Again, I genuinely appreciate it. I don't have the stomach to do it. You don't have to respond/maybe for the best if you don't.
I hope you don't mind me answering this. I feel that currently it's important for me to do so, so no one else feels alone.
You are not a bad person for questioning things, you are not a bad person for taking time with your emotions and you are especially not a bad person for waiting for confirmation.
It's speculation, that's all it is. We only know a bit of the story, we don't even know the full half of the story we've been given. Only pieces. How can we judge off of that? Why are we expected to change everything around us when such little information is offered?
I am voicing my differing opinion so others can be aware that it is not black and white. As you said, humans are multi faceted. Every situation involving people is not going to be black and white. There are going to be grey areas, there are things that are going to be blurry.
Making a quick judgement because a bunch of people on the Internet tell you to, is not fair to any party. I understand if that what you needed for yourself, but for me I needed to look at it differently or else I would've driven myself insane. It would be a different story if we had solid, clear evidence that it was who everyone thinks it is. But we don't.
I talked to my therapist about being told to feel shame (I was told this by someone in a reblog and in multiple asks, thanks anons! /sar). She told me
"You're in charge of what you feel, no one else is. Do you think you should feel shame [for not following the pack]?"
I told her no, and I wouldn't expect anyone else to feel shame either. We are human, but we need to have empathy for our fellow humans. The ones around us who are hurting or are simply taking a slower approach.
We don't know anything definite. Don't expect anyone to make a decision off speculation.
I don't know how I have the stomach, besides the fact I am tired of having to sit back and watch people tell others and myself how we're horrible people for taking a different look at it.
Thank you for sending this, anon<3 I woke up again and I am very happy to get to read this. I feel a lot better and I appreciate you. You are loved and appreciated and please, take care of yourself. You come first.

Speculation: Why many people find Ben Florian unlikeable
Okay so just for the record, this is essentially an analysis post on the Disney series - Descendants. Specifically on the character of Ben Florian, but more so about the reception of his character and why I think people have responded to him the way they have. Gonna be fairly longish so yeah. Anyways, hope you enjoy! :)
Introduction
Pretty much ever since I first saw Descendants, I have been a huge fan of Ben. (Which is no secret if you've read my blog ;)). I think Mitchell Hope did a fantastic job with the character, and his performance really drove it home.
So it's always been quite... Confusing to me that so many people don't like his character. Tumblr isn't too anti Ben, but on YouTube videos and on TikTok, a lot of analysis around him is typically quite negative. The charms of the character that I see and that really make the series for me, really don't work on everyone. And that's something I've found very hard to understand.
But as of a conversation I have had with @hannahhook7744.. I had an epiphany. As to why this character just seems to be a breeze of annoyance to many. And I think the answer lies in tropes and expectations.
First let's talk a bit about another character, a fan favourite - Audrey Rose.
What role does the character of Audrey Rose play in feelings of spite toward Ben?
I think most dislike for Ben stems from the story of his ex girlfriend -Audrey. We get shown it to some extent in the first movie, but it's much more explicit in the third.
In Descendants 1, Ben and Audrey were together. And while under the influence of a love spell cast on him by protagonist Mal Bertha, he performs a love song to Mal in front of the entire school. Naturally humiliating Audrey and breaking her heart.
After the performance, Mal and Ben start dating each other, much to Audrey's understandable anger.
The movie ends with Ben and Mal happy together and everyone is delighted about it yada yada. And then we get an entire sequel where Audrey does not make a appearance.
It's then in Descendants 3 that she makes a comeback. We see that she and Ben have been friends since childhood, and that she's still hung up on him.
Then, again publicly, Ben proposes to Mal. Mal happily agrees and everyone is delighted, except of course, Audrey. She is further heartbroken by this.
The devastation Audrey feels from losing Ben to a girl who literally enchanted him, causes her to have a emotionally moving breakdown in her bedroom, singing "Queen of Mean", a song about heartbreak from rejection.... At least that's what it's about at first.
It then turns into a song of vengeance. Audrey swears revenge on Mal and Ben for the ordeal she has been put through. She takes Malificient's sceptre from the Auradon Museum, and it changes her look, style of talking etc etc. She's a new person. A person hellbent on getting even with the two people who are (intentionally or not) responsible for her heartbreak.
And that's where we enter - the tropes.
The Tropes
The kind of character arc Audrey has had is pretty common. A girl gets her heart broken by a guy. Maybe he cheats on her. Maybe he breaks up with her in a unfair manner (like in this case). And the girl decides to get even with the guy and the "other girl" who has taken her place in his life.
Except... Here's the thing.
Most of the time in this story archetype, the guy really is a heartbreaking douchey thob.
I mean think of any time you've seen this storyline other than Descendants. When is the guy who has dismissed the girl ever really portrayed in a decent light?
In this specific situation, it's not that simple. Yes, Ben did break up with Audrey by publicly humiliating her. And yes, that's extremely brutal. But he didn't choose to. He was acting under a mind controlling love spell.
But nonetheless, this is probably the only instance where the guy breaking the girl's heart like that genuinely was not his fault. It's pretty odd to get a situation where the guy cheating on the girl really didn't willingly do anything wrong. But nonetheless that's what this is.
Ultimately 9 times out of 10, the role Ben plays in this archetype storyline really is of the bad guy. And so it is very compelling to see this the same way. To overlook how at least as far as the break up incident itself, Ben was not at fault, and just see him as the jerk who hurt Audrey.
Audrey's story is also relatable to real life stories too
Another thing which sadly does not go in Ben's favour either, is that this kind of story isn't just found in fiction. Art reflects life, and what Audrey is unfortunate to experience, for the most part, is all too real.
Many people are unfortunate to get hurt by their partners in real life through things like cheating, or just something involving a "other girl/woman". And the pain from this.... Is not forgettable.
And so I think a revenge fantasy of hurting the unfaithful person and their new consort is very common.
Add onto that that lines Audrey speaks in D3 are written to be relatable and impactful. ("There's nothing to lose when you're lonely and friendless, I won't let another person take advantage of me, the anger burns my skin third degree, now my blood's boiling hotter than a fiery sea etc)
I think with that, it's all too easy for victims of these sort of situations to project their own case onto Audrey's. To see Ben the same way they see the guy who hurt them. And in some cases, to see Mal as how they see their homewrecker, and perhaps want to see her get hurt by Audrey too.
And in real life, there is no love spell that makes people cheat against their will, like there was for Ben. People in reality who do the thing that Ben did really are responsible for their hurtful actions.
So ultimately, the sorts of real life people Ben is being associated to by viewers, aren't particularly decent.
Also, the revelation that Ben and Audrey are childhood friends just exaggerates all these feelings. The people who have been hurt by partners who actually had significant meaning to them are the ones who will naturally relate to Audrey most. And again, project their own experiences onto this girl and the people in her life.
The mistake Ben DID make; wrong but taken out of proportion
Ultimately, while what Spell!Ben did is the sort of thing that gets done all the time irl, it is also pretty evident that as I keep saying; he wasn't in control of himself when he did it. So for many people, even the ones who can relate to Audrey, that fact will be acknowledged.
But the truth is, there is a mistake Ben made. After the love spell was lifted, Ben never went to see Audrey to comfort her after what happened. No doubt that inaction would have fuelled the already existing heartbreak. I mean if Ben had had a word with her, maybe he could have given her closure and made her feel better. But he didn't.
There is no justification for this. Ben was in the wrong for this failure.
But it should also be considered that Ben isn't a 40 year old man who has just left his wife of 10 years. He is a teenager. He is still developing in terms of maturity.
Communication, especially about difficult topics, isn't something teenagers are the best at. I mean if Ben were to approach Audrey, we can tell that it would have clearly been very understandably awkward for him (again, not an excuse, but a point to consider). I mean, if you had just done something so awful to your childhood friend/ex girlfriend, regardless of whether or not it was your fault, approaching someone who you'd expect is probably very angry about it is quite unnerving.
But none of these factors would be considered by a lot of audience members, and for understandable reason:
Because of the tropes, expectations and their personal experiences, they are pre set to see Ben in a negative light. So the thing he WAS wrong for, they understandably will find it harder to empathize with and see from his perspective.

Log 3: A new breed of man
8:30 am, waking up from another sleepless night. I prepared my usual breakfast of coffee and eggs. After my week leave, it was about time to comeback to the office....or at least what I consider my office. I work at an wildlife rehabilitation center and reserve, since my wonderful history education career didn't pan out in the I hoped it would....I guess I had to fall back on my previous passion...nature, animals and staying as far away from people as I could be allowed to.
I was just about to enjoy the last bite of my eggs until my phone rang. I could see it was my boss, James (head researcher, local forest ranger for the county, and my ever patient boss.).
I pick it up and answer, "Hey James, I'm heading there as soon as I can ".
"Ah no worries, take your time. I just want to phone in a favor of yah, I need you to head to Mr.Bellcaller's hardware store and pick a few fencing equipment and some other gunbins. I texted you the list just in case. You're up for it?"
Since I come in at least an hour later than everyone else at the center, I'm usually the errand girl before my shift begins...it's nothing really, I actually like to help out if I can. The center's fundings have been cut by the town recently, so any amount of help...well...helps.
"You know it, I should be there in a bit. I'll see you later, sir."
Gives his usual chuckle on the other, "that's my girl. You're going to be on light duty for the week, hope you don't mind making the feed and filing paperwork."
Letting out a releaved sigh, I usually hate those duties but this week I sort of want to lay low. "Thanks James, see you later.", I hang up, pack up my work gear.
A half an hour later I'm at the hardware store. Mr and Mrs Bellcaller were one of the last members of one of the founding families here in Pine Hills. They have the town's utmost respect and most of us consider them the town's designated Grandparents. Their grandkids were around but most of their family lives in Portland.
As I'm looking at the list, it's all fencing material, repair equipment and a few tools. "oh boy...well at least it's not that much." As I get the tools, leaving the larger purchases for last, I hear the door bell ringing as another customer comes in.
"Oh good morning. Welcome back to Bellcaller's Tool Shop, how can we help you today?", Mrs.Bellcaller warmly greets them.
A low, stern and curt tone gently bellowed within earshot, "Greetings, I again require the following building necessities. If your business provides them. It would be greatly appreciated by me and my brothers.", if concrete had a voice....I just heard it.
I head up to the counter and what I find can only be described in one phrase. That is one HUGE man.
An extremely tall, double....no....tripled built man, his muscles taking a space that was only matched by his aura, whom already looked visibly constraint from the claustrophobic space he was in was being attended by Mrs.Bellcaller.
"Oh goodness, well thank you young man. I would also very much appreciate helping you.", she didn't seem mind this guy's absolutely strangeness, couldn't she see that this guy was easily 7 or 8 feet tall. He was dressed up in work casual construction clothes. This man was a monument in a hard hat.
I could barely comprehend what I was looking at... until his smell hit my nostrils. It was a harsh, musk, this guy was what a buffalo was to a regular dairy cow. That wasn't even the strangest part, his stench was doing things to me I'm too embarrassed to elaborate on....I haven't felt this crazy level of sexual high in my life. As I looked at one of the other patrons too see if I wasn't hallucinating what I was feeling, I saw one of the wives of the local farmers here picking up an order. I've never seen another woman so publicly hot and bothered, she couldn't stop looking at him. I'd be worried if I was her husband.
As for me, I was huffing, my heart pounding, I actually thought I was having a panic attack....no...this was so primal I was visibly embarrassed. I couldn't look away from him. Tall, the apex of masculinity, he literally was everything anyone would want out of a man... well physically so to speak.
But he was lazor focused. He didn't look around, he didn't even acknowledge anyone around him. His gaze was harsh, yet...it wasn't scary. It's the same look most men in the military give.
As for Mrs.Bellcaller, I could barely imagine what she's feeling.
She comes back out with a sizable box of industrial nuts and bolts, a few hammers and a farming drill used for drilling holes in much harder clay deposits.
"Oh and the concrete mix is just out in the back, Jack is loading up for you as we speak deary.", she casually notified him.
The man's expression had not changed, but his toned softened at the unexpected help, "Please pardon my ill-kept manners, madame. I shall assist your husband.", he placed a small bag in front of her. She simply takes the bag and places it under the counter for later. "Thank you, your business has been most essential to our cause."
"Oh thank you sweetheart, have a blessed day.", as she waved to him, the man released his 'parade rest' position and robotically walk out the door, carefully trying not to hit the doorway.
It felt like forever, a just a still silence, with the hefty sent of literal manhood still lingering in the store.
"God Dang it, finally that brick shit house has left the building. Smelling like a bull in its worst rut possible, do folks don't know how to shower anymore?! Come on Bridgette!", the man leaves with his wife in tow, probably feeling as emasculated as possible looking at the guy.
"~oh my lord!", it's clear she got it a lot worse since she was across the aisle from him.
I sheepishly walked to the counter, my head was starting to slowly clear. "...ugh...wow...ugh...oh..yeah..um...d-do you have this fencing stuff Mrs Bellcaller?"
How was she so damn calm? She isn't even breaking a sweat....
"Oh hellow Lorey, how are you doin love? Are you doing better? I was mortified when I heard what had happened to Micheal, my dearest condolences.", she gave me a concerned look. She was the closest thing to a real grandmother I could ever ask for.
"Oh, I'm doing better, thank you for asking...also..ugh is it hot in here or something?", I just needed to make sure I wasn't just losing composer because of my hormones.
She giggled a little, "Oh no, but don't worry sweetheart I don't blame you. That gentleman has been coming her for three years now. Handsome fella too! I just love seeing how the men here get all riled up when he and his brothers from that work come over for supplies."
"b-brothers?", I ask.
"oh yes! All just as tall as him.", as she finished her statement Mr.Bellcaller came from the back.
"ooowee. If ain't for Bill paying for all the equipment he buys we'd be out of business by now Margaret. Fine boy too. Just wondering why is he so high strung. Worse than the soldiers up at Tillamook.", he wiped his forehead of his sweat.
"Bill?", I ask again.
"Oh hey Lorey, yep. His name's Bill. Bill Dorn, must be German or something. Anyways, I see yeah need new fencing? Hmm, hopefully we'll be getting some better quality stuff soon. Folks around here have been investing more and more in home protection.", he gave a short jolly smile.
"ah, I can imagine. Again thanks for the help."
After a few minutes of loading the rest of the equipment, I waved goodbye to the Bellcaller's and headed to work. The lingering.... inappropriate thoughts...still putting in a mood I hadn't felt in months.
I arrived at work around 9 or so. With equipment in tow.
"Well well well, if it ain't 'Bear Grills' herself, how's it going!", Jonas, a coworker of mine greeted me with her usual energy. "I heard yah almost bit the dust, what happened?", it was less out of genuine concern and more out of morbid curiosity.
I let out another, exhausted sigh, "it was a big...metal man... with spikes all over his body...I shot an arrow at him...and....boom...'sloded. I have no idea what else happened or why it did.", the story had become shorter and shorter every time I tell it.
"ah what! That's so cool! Is it true that it killed yo-", James walks in hearing a potential fight happened, "That's enough Jonas! Ah there you are Lorey, thanks for stopping by Bellcaller's. Any news from town?", James was always quick to stop any infighting amongst the staff.
"yeah ugh....do any of you know a guy named Bill Dorn?", I see only one person in the office who could have any information on him.
"Oh I know Dorn and his 'brothers'", it was Jeff....
".....what the hell is he doing here?", I already was geared up by Jonas, I didn't need Jeff making it worse for me either.
James unfortunately was reluctant to answer, "Ah yes, Deputy Jeff-"
" Sheriff Deputy Jeff. I have to use the official title now. As per agency policy.", interrupting James.
".... Sheriff Deputy Jeff Colt wanted to stop by as check on you, that's all." By this point, I only knew center had my back because everyone at the wildlife center has had a run in with local PD, most of which resulted in arrests.
"Yes, and I insist on making sure you're safe. Look I understand our past hasn't been the most peachest. But, I still love you.", the sugar in that confession was enough to kill an elephant.
"anyways, I wouldn't go near that...freak. Damn near crushed my hand when we shook. Almost was tempted in slapping him with an "assault of an officer charge". That big lug just stared at me like he nothing going on inside that skull of his. I say he's no good. Probably just some city-slicker.", he crossed his arms thinking his statements had any weight.
No one in the room gave a shit about Jeff's statement, especially me. Jeffrey Colt has been part of the force for a little over a year and he's become a completely different person. He's gain a lot of weight, he's been over bearing with his duties and has already ruined his reputation as the Pine Hills Highschool football champion because of it.
"If you did, you would have cared about a little more enough not to cheat on me.", I did not care anymore on keeping that part a secret, at the same time no one truly knew the real reason why I broke up with him. We both agreed no to say what it was.
The frustration on his face was visible but even knew what I was doing. "hmf, well. I still care enough to make sure you ain't getting yourself hurt, good day. I've got more important duties to attend to." He leaves in a huff.
James, Jonas and several other volunteers look back at me worried. I look at all of their faces, I clear my throat and redo my ponytail that had gotten a little loose on the way to work.
"I'm fine.... everything is fine. He's just being an idiot.", I grab some of the center's paperwork and head to the filing office.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Meanwhile, 30 miles north of Pine Hills:
As the long expansive road stretches on for another few miles, the cramped conditions of the truck begin to finally bother Bill.
"hhhhhhhggggggg", he gently turns on the already broken knob of the truck radio.
"Reports of Mystery Armored Entities continue to rise as the spring season begins. Residence within the Albany county, Portland City limits and even reports as far east of the nation in Utah, Chicago, Michigan, Virginia, Georgia and Florida have be reporting these strange and potentially dang-", Bill changes the station, "You're listening to 106.8 Country F.M, where easy listening goes out West!", as a soft country song starts playing, it eases Bill's mind, helping him focus on his mission back home.
Sternly, he looks ahead of him, turns left off road, heading down a tired trail ment for military personnel long decommissioned.
After the bumpy trail ends, he arrives at a make shift metal wall, guarded by one of the metal men. Wearing striking yellow armor, with an insignia of a black fist held proudly up on his left shoulder.
"Hault, Password!", he shouted.
Bill just dryly rolled his window down and stared at the armored individual. "We need bigger vehicles."
"Password Accepted!", the armored man humored his clearly disgruntled brother, "welcome home Bilhard."
Bilhard, waved, thanking his brother. Driving another five minutes, he arrives at a construction site, one that had been painstakingly built in secret for several decades, as expansion for the sit now extends for an unknown amount of feet underground.
"hm, time to continue the Emperor's good work.", gets out of his cramped truck, stretching his arms out.
End of log 3
Firstly, when you get this, you have to answer with 5 things you like about yourself, publicly. Then, send this ask to 10 of your favorite followers (non-negotiable, positivity is cool) ❤️
I'm.. one of your favourite followers? 🥹
Sjxjwsks this fandom is too nice, I've been in a bad place for a couple of years and being here these months made me smile so much. I almost feel adopted haha. You guys are lovely! 🩷
Hm... 🤔
1. I like that I'm very considerate of people's feelings. I always care how others feel and try to make sure they're ok/comfortable. I'm very empathetic, so it helps sensing others moods.
2. I'm open-minded. Even if I don't agree with something, I love hearing all sides and form an opinion after. You never know what you might discover.
3. I think I'm warm? 😭 At least I hope I so. I've always wanted to be that kind of person someone would find soothing, easy to be with, one that can take your worries away even for a few seconds. Maybe it helps that I don't really fall into a category, like you can see me wear pink and blast "Highway to hell" in my small car lmao or wear only black and listen to classical music haha. What I want to say is that I can make people relate to me even if we're different. Hope it made sense sigh.
4. I can sense when I'm being lied to, haha. I have no idea how, call it intuition, but I'm (almost) always right. Maybe it's the body language or the tone, but I can tell a lie from a truth quite easy.
5. I'm not easily persuaded (maybe because I'm stubborn haha). I also don't fall easily for gossip. Until I know for sure and can form my own opinion on someone or something, I'll never believe everything I hear (but there can always be exceptions, everybody makes mistakes hehe).
Well, this was a very good exercise for self-love, so thank you, sweetheart! 🩷
hi! you can answer publicly or privately (as you wish) but would you mind linking your kofi or something so i can drop in some support for the holidays?? hope ur keeping well despite the bollocks and that u find somewhere better very very soon!!!!
hello! thank you this is so kind @mp3sea 🥰
i hope you don't mind me using your ask to publish because i've gotten a handful of messages like this and i want to clarify that, as much as i appreciate it, i really don't need any help financially. at least, not in the immediate future.
i am very privileged to have family able to support me until i find stable work again in the next few months. also, assuming all goes well, i was able to negotiate a decent severance package with the help of my union, and will receive that soon too.
sincerely, i can't believe the support i've been offered and i am so grateful, thank you. but that money you have to spare is far better off going to your local Palestinian advocacy groups, community charities, etc. people who really need it.
if you really want, make a donation to help organisations like Palestinian Legal, Australian Palestinian Advocacy Network (APAN), Australian Friends of Palestine Association (AFOPA), and Muslim Legal Network -- all of them are providing direct aid to people (like me) who have lost their jobs for standing up for Palestine and Palestinians.
thank you so much to you and everyone who's offered but it feels wrong for me to take anything from anyone rn. happy new year <3
Hello!! I'm a newcomer to your blog, and I have to say I'm nothing less than *awestruck* at your art and your worldbuilding!! It feels quite immersive, and I have to admit I'm a big suckered for speculative biology and eldritch-looking creatures.
I think I have a ton of questions but I'd like to know 2 things precisely:
1) Asking as someone who's neurodivergent as hell, would you feel overwhelmed if the same person asked you multiple questions, tegardless if it's at once or at different points in time? I'd much rather not be overwhelming.
2) Do you happen to take art commissions?? I really admire your style, and I have a few creatures of my own I'd like to see in your style. But ONLY if that's okay. If not, it's cool!
Ngl, this is also my first time asking anonymously to *anyone,* so I apologize if it's unprofessional to ask these questions while hiding my blog url. I hope your day or evening goes well :)
Hello and thank you! <3
I'm not much into speculative biology actually; I'm way more into personal stories (which I don't post though), and the emotional and fantasy aspects of art and fiction than the scientific and biological ones, but I understand this confusion ^^ I just don’t want it to create the wrong expectations for my lore and art. Most of all, I'm focused on the stories of my few dearest characters than on the worldbuilding and working with species in general.
1 - depends! Too much of attention, many emotional reactions and same questions over and over again can be overhelming to me, and I never wanted and/or exepted my art and creatures to arouse a lot of interest. I more like it when my art is for a relatively small number of interested people, so sometimes it makes me doubt if I want to share it for SO many people :'D plus I feel a lot of responsibility to answer everything as soon as I can. At the same time, I'm glad that people like my art and my creatures, and usually I don't mind questions! But If you have a lot of questions, it may be better to ask them in one message.
2 - No, I don't do commissions, and exceptions are veeeery rare, sorry!
And don't worry for asking, it's okay! I don't find it unprofessional, but I'm also far from being a professional myself. Non-anonymous questions may be better in some cases because I can answer them privately without posting the answer publicly, it's better for a more personal talk.
Thank you again, and you too! ~
I heard about this Shubble person recently, I stayed out of drama as much as I could but, what happened now??? You even wrote this in one of your tags "#I really did love him a lot (parasocially)". I was busy this week so I don't know what is happening now.
I highly recommend people watch Shubble’s vod on her twitch channel (I don’t have a link but I can’t imagine it’s that difficult to find). Be mindful though as the vod does talk about abuse which is a very triggering topic, so make sure to be taking care of yourself. I’m gonna put the rest of the post under the cut, so people can easily scroll past this if they want to.
As a little summary, Shubble streamed yesterday and talked about her abusive ex. She didn’t name anyone, but she also wasn’t hiding who it was, and contrary to what some people may say, a lot of the dots being connected are stuff we know from past streams and comments from friends and not leaked info.
So, the incredibly most likely case is that it was Wilbur. I’m not gonna get into everything Shelby said because she said it on her stream, but the signs do point to Wilbur, and you’d have to reach significantly further to claim she was talking about someone else. There’s not a lot of British male ccs who have a bigger audience than her who have a history of biting people and have reason to be going on long travels (tour) where they wouldn’t see each other often.
Listen. I was a certified dreambur blog, okay? Everyone who glanced in my direction knew that I was a Wilbur fan. Everyone knows that I loved him so fucking much. But that’s not an excuse to bury my head in the sand and ignore everything, y’know?
Anyway, this is gonna be the last time I talk abt this publicly (I’m sure my friends will hear more in DMs though sorry <3), so I’m gonna throw a bit more stuff here abt my blog going forward.
I will eventually talk abt c!wilbur again. I’m still gonna write my silly little c!dreambur aus, I’ve just put them on the back burner. regardless of cc actions, I genuinely do love so many of the characters on the dsmp. I’ll probably be focused on some other fics for a while, but c!wilbur’s my cat and I don’t think he’s leaving my brain soon. I just need a little time.
I think cc!wilbur is someone who needs help. and I genuinely do hope he gets that help. but having mental health struggles isn’t an excuse. and I just can’t see myself engaging in his content in the foreseeable future. you’re not gonna see me post neg about him. you’re just likely not gonna see me post anything about him at all.
I’m happy to know Shubble has an amazing support system. I’m so sorry she had to go through something so horrible. I’m wishing her nothing but the best, and everyone should check out her YouTube channel!! I haven’t watched her newest video yet, but I did watch Lizzie’s pov of the collab, so I know it’s a fun concept
If people have questions that this post doesn’t answer, then I’m happy to answer them in DMs, but I don’t wanna talk abt this publicly anymore. (I reserve a right to change my mind though if I for some reason feel the need to post abt it again)
Anyway, take care of yourselves. Love is never ever wasted, okay? And all that love belongs to you. And it’s always a good thing to put more love out into the world. Never feel guilty for loving, okay? 🫂
Hey, sorry if this is bad(?), but I was wondering if you had any advice for getting into the xr world/career. I think I've seen you mention the topic (encouraging others to join the field?) at least once, but I don't know how to even get started. Thank you for your time!
(If you could answer this not publicly I would appreciate it, but it's fine if you do, or like, if you don't answer at all)
not a bad thing to ask at all! I've actually been in the middle of writing a guide about this for some time that I will.... hopefully finish sometime soon ghskgh.
I hope you don't mind me posting this publicly - I ended up writing a short novel and figure it might be useful to others who are curious as well! anyways, the advice I give to people with a background in illustration is to start out with a Quest 2 headset. they retail at $300 new, but you can get them used via eBay, Craigslist, FB Marketplace or someplace like that for around $200 or under. the Quest 2 works without needing to be plugged into a PC, though you will probably want to buy a more ergonomic head-strap to make it more comfortable. (the head strap that Meta sells is overpriced, but this third-party one is really good) if you're interested in working with augmented reality (the type of work I do!) and have the ability to save up some extra money, I'd recommend waiting for the release of the Quest 3, which will launch this fall and cost $500. totally not a requirement at all to start learning, though.
other than that, I'd recommend starting out with free art programs like Open Brush and Gravity Sketch to familiarize yourself with creating in-headset. both of these programs have a large amount of tutorial videos up on YouTube - as well as an active community of other artists who are all generally very friendly and eager to help people learn. VR Art Live and The Spatial Canvas's Discord servers are the communities I'm part of. :)
after that, it all just comes down to posting your new artwork online to as many platforms as you can mentally handle (this is the hardest part for me, ghsghs), and also looking at paid XR artist programs/gigs. Mozilla Hubs, Horizon Worlds, and Figmin XR (that's me!) all have some creator opportunities where they pay people to create things on their platform.
you can also find work doing XR concept art, art performances, and I've even seen grant programs for XR artists from art galleries. these things are harder to find, but if you make a LinkedIn page and a modest portfolio of your XR art, chances are high that you'll get some eyes on it.
it's ridiculously easy to be a big fish in a small pond right now if you have any kind of skills with these programs. I will say that there does seem to be a push towards people who can create things that are interactive and can be shared with others (like AR Snapchat/TikTok/Instagram filters, experiences created and published to platforms like Mozilla Hubs, Figmin XR, etc.), so that's something to keep in mind while learning - but not something that should stop you!
going from 2D illustration to creating things in 3D space is a whirlwind of learning new skills that can often feel overwhelming, but the most important thing is that it should feel fun and enjoyable to you. I started out by just listening to music while painting in Tilt Brush (Tilt Brush was the original version of Open Brush, before Google made it open-source) and creating whatever felt the most fun in the moment. everything else just came from natural curiosity and connecting with other artists in the space.
lastly... I have no technical (coding, traditional 3D modeling) skills. I am a 2x college dropout with chronic mental illness, and prior to my current employment I was never able to hold a job for longer than 3 months. and yet....... this new industry has changed my life completely, and at 29 years old I finally feel like I have a purpose. I'm somehow a software developer now, without needing to know anything about software development. that's wild!!!
this is why I'm so excited for the future. if this brand-new technology (still in its infancy! viewed as frightening by so many!!) was able to help me in such a radical way... what will that mean for even more people discovering it as it becomes more accessible?
I don't know the answer to that yet... but I do know how wonderful it is to see people learning about all of this for the first time. helping with that alone is more than enough for me 💖
Heyooooo
I have a chinese drama question and thought you'd be the perfect one to ask!
I was watching a chinese anime, fantasy historical, as you do, and thought 'hey, if i like this so much maybe I should give one of the tumblr propaganda live action shows a try?'
I just don't know where to start, the one a while back with the demon man with the flute(?) and the very serious looking man in white looked really good! But is a good starter show? And uuuuh what was it called again?
Cheers!
lmao i hope you don't mind me answering this publicly. that would be the untamed! it was the show that kicked off this whole ... thing. for me.
is it good? yes. is it a good starter show? hoo boy how do i even judge that at this point. 😳
i'll say this: you're going to be confused. many characters have 2-3 names, there are some plot holes (mostly as a result of censoring or just things getting cut for length iirc), and there is simply ... a lot going on. personally i went in completely unfamiliar with the genre as well, so stuff went over my head and i didn't know what some terms meant etc.
i can probably dig up some helpful posts tho!
i would also love to recommend some alternatives, but i'm not sure what you're looking for. the major genres or genre groupings i have experience with are, roughly, xianxia (focused on gods/immortals/cultivators whose goal is to become immortal), wuxia (deals with the "martial arts world" a.k.a. jianghu, which i cannot sum up in one sentence but basically it's a little more down to earth, although fantastical elements often exist to varying degrees, and it tends to feature characters living on the fringes of society), and historical/fake-historical stuff that doesn't fall under either of these. court dramas can be surprisingly entertaining if you ask me.
a bit of overlap is not unusual, i think, and then sometimes the plot centers on romance within one of these genres.
so do you want romance? is het romance of interest or would you prefer an "as much queercoding as we can get away with" adaptation of a BL novel instead (like the untamed)? which of the genres sounds most appealing? how much do you mind major character death? (very important question 😂)
i can recommend one or two things set in modern times as well, including the absolute mess (said with love) that is daomu biji (the thing with the graverobbing adventures), but you probably don't want to get into that or you'll be here forever. :P
please answer my riddles three give me some pointers and i'll make a guess at which of my faves you'd like best. or i'll just go looking for those explainer posts about the untamed tomorrow.
