you joke but thats LITERALLY his entire thought process at first. he's so isolated and arrogant that he couldnt possibly comprehend the idea that luz wouldnt see him as her father despite the fact he literally told hunter he was going to be her older brother and never once encouraged hunter to see him as anything but an uncle.

i attribute this to the fact that philip is an orphan who only ever knew his blood brother as his only caretaker, so he sorta took having a brother for granted and didn't realize that was something you could want rather than something that just Is.

(also caleb was the only person philip ever truly knew + loved and even well into his 300s he never once picked up a child psychology book and realized that Perhaps His Worldview Was Skewed Because Of That.)

he literally like. could not comprehend the idea that you could even choose your own family outside of like. being adopted by someone. thats the other thing with him being so annoyingly christian in this AU, he was taught that your blood family (esp yr parents) is always the most important thing in your life & you should always be grateful to them no matter what.

(this is another factor into why he keeps making grimwalkers. in his own twisted viewpoint, it's him giving caleb another chance. and another. and another-- at least in this specific characterization of him.)

philip thought that him adopting luz would mean she would immediately be eternally grateful to him and call him father and the whole nine yards. but he forget to actually express that expectation until it was too late (aka until he heard her call him uncle for the first time)

honestly, hes not MAD about it. he's just sorta :( about it bcus hes not actually insane and can still logically think like "she did say she had just lost her real father to an illness its perfectly reasonable for her to not want to replace him" (he doesnt think it outloud but he also enjoys living thru her vicariously

but also later on as she gets older it gets to a point where he's like "ok its been years now why isnt she trying to replace him yet" bcus he thinks its a normal + healthy part of the grieving process to replace the person you lost (figuratively or, in his case, Literally)

And I read the tim fic and like a lot of your blog before I realized I was ace. It was like one the reasons it got on my list of things to do.

And boy did I not know about what the ace spectrum was. What could qualify as asexuality. But during the process of educating myself I was like…oh. Oh!

So basically what I’m saying is another one down for the count.

Trying to determine if this means that I was a domino or red flag. I'll put it on the list of "sexualities I have aced" anyway. Yes it's been multiple people. It's great.

I find that the sentence that most helped me when I was trying to figure stuff out was: it doesn't have to be a permanent identity. You aren't married to it. You can call yourself ace now and have a different idea of yourself later. If you're worried that your depression/medication/etc is just suppressing your sex drive, then you can just change your mind later. If you have a discomfort/trauma with sex/sexuality and asexuality is what's most comfortable for you right now, go for it. I feel like asexuality is genuinely one of the harder sexualities to figure out, both because it's kind of obscure and confusing and because it's really hard to notice an absence of something haha.

I feel like when it comes to sexualities as identities, because we think of IDs as such an intrinsic part of ourselves we struggle with thinking of them as impermanent or potentially inaccurate. But like...you know, one of my identities is as a daughter (and a sister, and a best friend), but I won't be a daughter forever. Doesn't make me not somebody's daughter now. I have disabilities, but they're not part of my identity, they're just things I have. These can be the case with sexuality too. Relate with yourself however you want.

And yes it's true that almost everybody I talk to who's read a great deal of my fics are ace, especially aroace. I feel like the reason for this is honestly pretty straightforward: decent, long, non-tropey Gen can honestly be pretty hard to find. TBH I always feel as if it's less my writing and more just pure desperation on y'alls part lmfao. Any water in a desert, etc.

But I love this ask, it makes me very happy, haha. Sorry for the diatribe up there - if you feel 100% confident about the ace thing then ignore it, it's just smth I try to say to baby aces just bc it's such a confusing time in anybody's life.

I think my lizard is going to die :(

Hey guys, my pet lizard is pretty sick, and I cannot afford to take her to a vet because my dog has also recently been sick and all of my money has gone to his vet bills. My dog is fine for right now, but the lizard is not.

She is open mouth breathing (really bad sign), has been refusing food, and thus has lost weight. I suspect she has a respiratory infection. If I were to be able to take her to a vet, I believe they would prescribe her Baytril (antibiotic to fight the infection) and Critical Care to increase her weight, and maybe also something special to soak her in rather than just warm water, just to help keep her hydrated as she is also looking dehydrated. With all of this, I imagine I would be looking at a bill of around $150-$200, or maybe even a little bit more, which i simply do not have right now, especially since I cannot work for the next 4 weeks.

I really don't want to lose her. So I am asking for money to take her to a vet. If I can raise at least $150-$175, I can find a way to cover the rest if it ends up being a bit more than that.

In the meantime, my plan for her care is twice daily soaks in warm water to keep her hydrated, keeping her in a smaller quarantine tank so I can easily monitor her health as right now she is in a larger one with a mate. She might be eating, but i can't really tell since the other one may be the one getting the food, but I've just moved her to the smaller tank, so I will try to give her some food. If she doesn't eat over the weekend, I have some liquid meal that I can syringe feed to her, but she hates being handled like that. But keeping her fed and hydrated is really all I can do to help make her more comfortable while she tries to fight the infection. There is nothing I can do for her respiratory infection without medical treatment. If any reptile owners out there have any advice for me, i'd appreciate it.
