"Sooo,,,, according to my friend my liking of Japanese stuff is cultural appropriation????? (This is technically relevant, im white, theyre also white as far as i know) How does that make sense??? As far as i know, cultural appropriation is things like wearing a ceremonial headdress as someone of a culture that does not have them, or putting on an accent of a group of people you arent a part of, not simply liking japanese things! Im not doing anything outside of listening to vocaloid music and other japanese music.
And the whole henna tattoo thing,,,, it was at a cultural appreciation thing at school. I paid money for it and gave it to people who were from a culture with henna. I cant remember which. The definition of cultural appropriation is taking something sacred/special from another culture WITHOUT PERMISSION and making it less special, i think. I had permission. I PAID for it. It was done by someone of that culture (and she was really good at it too!). How is that cultural appropriation?!?!?! Id consider it cultural appreciation if anything since i supported people of that culture and didnt mean it in any sort of harmful way. Not that thars super important cause being oblivious wouldnt make something not bad if it was.
And then theres the random comment about Neka (fem name/nickname) and Kai (masc name) (im genderfluid) being "the same"??? And thats bad???? What???? They have two letters in common. They sound different. Where did they get that from??? How is that related????"

I think liking a culture, having respect for it, isn't really appropriating it. you aren't mocking them, taking their culture and turning it into your fashion, you're appreciating it.
as for the name thing, I think if you like those names, and they fit for your identity or whatever, then its fine. they can be as similar or as different as you want them to be

i wish more than anything he could have had this. i love you man
i really fucking do
my love for nirvana and immense respect for kurt isn't something i ever expected. after being a huge fan of jonghyun too as a musician, a person who had things to say, a human being. the people around him. i fucking hate that kurt is gone and i was like...2. i got into hole when i was like 25 really heavily and refused to listen to nirvana. didnt' care about these white boys. but there's a reason why people love this band and why they loved kurt. i get mad sometimes at his death—selfishness—and then i make jokes to deal and cope. we all do with everything. it's just that and this is from a cis person...but i know so many trans people or people on the gender spectrum who have read his journals see him as someone struggling with gender. and after years of thinking and becoming such a huge fan i think that was honestly the truth. i think at this point we're all pretty sure he was gender queer or struggling with identity.
his aversion for oppression, his stand with the marginalized, not accepting racism, homophobia, transphobia BECAUSE THAT IS THE HEART OF DIY (spurred by my black people cos ofc it is and we do everything) and i wish that he could have beeen better.
to me it seems like his pain with his crohns (or wahtever he had) lead to his intense struggle with drugs because that's pretty common when needing pain management. on top of that, his family's history of MI. on top of that, his life being hounded and not being prepared for it (this i think is the idea of white privilege at work and wasn't naive of him necessarily, but...it's just something he thought wouldnt happen to him. that's whiteness at work as who they were as a diy fucking anti pop anti capital punk band. sonic youth said 'we didnt sell out, we made them buy in') and his rship with courtney. he said without court he might be gay or bi.
i won't read his journals, it's too fucking much for me and i dont feel allowed or maybe i will when i can handle it, but i know reading about them and him and hearing the way he changed his songs and his abhorrence for bravado, for men that talk about women as disposable and sex objects, for not being able to enjoy a punk band, for the whiteness and maleness. krist novoselic was a 6'7 fucking bassist and dave grohl is a sizeable dude with hideous tattoos. back then, no one said a fucking bad thing about them. come as you are.
we know that suicide is a state we get into. when you go to a psych ward you see that it's actually calm and an ebb/flow. it is extremely fucking boring. the thing is we don't know if these feelings last forever. we can't go back and time and history cannot change. it was his decision, like jonghyun's, to end his life. but i know there could have been longer. if they got help. i try not to resent courtney especially not now with people being irresponsible and unearthing the FBI report on him. he killed himself but it was definitely emotionally sparred by her and she should have told people what happened weeks before his death.
but no one failed him per se. his suicide note is full of hope and it kills me to see. he should have been able to be whoever he wanted. been a son, been a daughter, been anything.
whenever i hear the changed lyrics or see him in a dress or hear distress i dont know. i wish we didnt lose him but i also know that no one wants to go back to that time. it wasn't necessarily great but it wasn't all bad. and i wish commodity didn't destroy legacy. i wish we werent's so obsessed with the death and gore instead of the liveliness and hilarity of this band and of kurt. and i wish we could talk about him more and the idea that maybe there's so much going on with it; i have many critiques for things they have done, things kurt has done as well.
i'm talking in circles but i genuinely just get bummed. every day he is still dead. but this dude man......i love him a lot. i'm so glad nirvana gave what they did to the world. getting to know kurt so long after the fact is fucking hard sometimes. it is frustrating. but focusing on the positives too or trying to understand another perspective has given me a lot of insight. and i always try and remember that it wasn't just one thing, that nirvana were a band, it wasn't just him, and he could have been better but it just didn't work out that way. it's not solely about his internal pain and the narrative of a tortured artist is suffocating.
he wanted to be a star, make this insane pop song, and when he got it he didnt realize it became everything he hated. he was already struggling and all this shit hit a point. i have mad respect for them still. dave grohl said billie eilish is the kurt of her gen (about 2 yrs ago) and that drives me up a wall for various reasons. antiblackness and class. fuck that. these dudes were poor as fuck trucking it through washington with other bands and the basis is blacness and black art they were trying to fight and make it and give a shit man. it didnt turn out the way they could handle but they were not PRIMIING themselvs for musical stardom. no artist who cares would do that. but if you get the recognition you want because who doesn't, it comes at a price too.
this is why i critique commodity and capital so intensely. i participate, and i will have to as an artist. i don't have a desire to be poor because i've lived a life that gave me space to see what i want to do. i have class privilege (and a lot of debt) and i am grateful. but it isnt like i dont want peopl eto know. it's just that i know that i can't give in and accept and demand nothing and then decide to hoard it to myself. taht money that goes in funnels out and is not for me to keep. there is no trickling down. dont paly yrself.
artists like kurt and in a sense like MF Doom (rapper who only came out to be seen when he wanted to) or DMX even it's like....man u came out fucking fighting to be heard you know. do your thing. make your shit. be amazing. esp black people. DMX had a fucking face for a camera. hopefully i'm gonna watch belly at my best friend's house on the 28th.
i wish everyone who deserves to stay can stay until their body releases them in the most pleasant way as possible. jessica walter's death made me sad, but she was older and i'm so happy she got to live. same with cicely tyson. at the same time, the young deaths over drugs, suicide, accidents....id on't really get it. why is kissinger alive but these people can't stay? how did this come a somber tale of death instead of just i fucking love kurt cobain lmao
he's def one of those ppl that im like u rock. him, robeson, seberg to an extent. hm who else. wong kar wai, jenkins, joe (thai filmmaker whose name i cant spell.) all those people who are running forward on their own and beating their chest. yea i like that. an award is just another award. what matters is possibility and action.

Everything’s gonna be okay
Angela began watching over both of them after a few moments, in distance. Hanzo had exhausted himself to sleep after Jesse’s life support having been turned off. His cheeks were swollen and red from crying, and he was tightly hugged to the cowboy’s body, as if hoping he’d come back, or that at least he would be with him soon, even if it was in his dreams. His dragons were surrounding both, as if protecting his master from more pain.
Lúcio hadn’t come for them yet, still waiting in the living room, just a little away from angela’s spot. Even being so positive and conforting about anything, known to be capable of lifting everyone’s spirits, himself couldn’t lift up Hanzo’s right now. The reformed criminal had lost the most important people in his life. The one who’d stay as his side and let a funny remark just to see a smile across Hanzo’s face. Not even the most uplifting beat in the world could help him right now, the best thing to do would wait for the grief to slowly fade.
While watching, the doctor got lost in thoughts. She began thinking about her ethics, then about the times she literally made miracles to save people’s lives. Then she looked at the corner of the room, her valkyrie armor. Still there, intact, almost looking holy. She remembered how many times she saved her comrades with that armor, doing things considered impossible for regular civilians. But she also remembered how she wore that in war times, meaning lots of kills... lots of blood of other people that she couldn’t have saved. She couldn’t. She tried everything she could in available medicine in the moment. But maybe... Maybe this time...
One of the dragons turned it’s head when heard the doctor approaching. In her full armor, like a guardian angel. And her inseparable caduceu’s staff. Even being a technologic device, it still felt like something that belonged rightfully to a holy being.
The dragons spread around to let her get closer. She looked at both of the men. If it wasn’t for the flatline sound, it could be assumed by Jesse's peaceful expression that was just asleep. Dreaming about his days in Deadlock Gang, his days in Blackwatch... or the days in the simple yet worthwhile life that he had built with Hanzo.
She carefully put a hand on the shoulder of sleeping Hanzo. “I’m sorry for being so harsh at you before. Everything is gonna be okay now, Mr. Shimada”. She spoke softly before taking a deep breath and concentrating herself, aiming her staff to Jesse’s chest, while placing a hand on his forehead. The light from the staff was strong enough for the dragons to look away, and to drag Lúcio’s attention, who rushed to the room, only to see the scene in surprise. What... what was she doing?
After finished, with the light slowly fading, She let out a soft smile of satisfaction after seeing the cowboy slowly regain his breath and the relieving sound of his heartbeats in the machine. He’d make it now. Her heart believed it. She quietly left to watch over them in distance. They’d just have to wait for a while...
Slowly, Jesse opened his eyes. His throat felt dry, and he had to blink a few times to adjust his sight. “What... what happened”, he thought. The last thing he remembered was facing the enemies while cradling a wounded and unconscious Hanzo in his lap, and then...a sharp pain in the back of his head—
“Hanzo!” He tried to call for him, worried, but his voice wouldnt come out yet. It was rusty, dry. He felt like he had been... sleeping... for too long. Maybe weeks. Maybe months. and then... he noticed the arms wrapped around him. Those strong arms, and the dragon tattoo that he could see even under the ex- assassin’s kimono. It was him. It was Hanzo. The most important person in his life was there, alive and apparently well... but... He was crying? He noticed the teartains in the man’s cheeks, and his expression softened a little before slowly getting his forces to carefully lift his arm to shake him awake.
“Hey” his voice was really rusty, but he forced it anyway. “Hey, sweetheart... come on, wake up.” he said carefully traveling his fingers through Hanzo's hair.
A shaky sigh let Hanzo’s lips as he slowly opened his eyes, feeling the slightly cold touch of Jesse's robotic arm through his hair. They were bloodshot, and he had some difficult to focus due that. But that confusion in his mind faded as he saw Jesse there. Alive. With that stupid and adorable smile.
“J...Jesse... h-how....” It was what he only managed to speak, after a few moments of shock and surprise, blinking and rubbing his eyes, daring to believe them.
“I... guess I can’t be gone that easily. Couldn’t leave such a gentleman waiting for me behind, all alone”. He spoke in his usual rugged farmboy tone, still weak due not having used his muscles for a long time, but still keeping up his undoubtedly playful attitude.
Hanzo could say nothing else. The tears were back in his eyes, but this time they were of joy. He squeezed his eyes, letting them roll down on his face. A miracle happened to them. Jesse was back. He didn’t know how, didn’t know why...but he was there. It wasn’t a dream... his silly cowboy was back to him. He hugged Jesse tightly, making sure for good that he was actually there. The cowboy did the same, as before getting shot he wasn’t sure he’d see Hanzo again... but there he was. There were both of them. They’d need a lot of time to fully recover from the physical and emotional trauma... But as long as they had each other, they would be fine.
“...I... I don’t understand, Dr. Ziegler” Lúcio spoke to the doctor, confused. “If you could have done that since the beggining, why... did you wait so long?” There was a slight hint of upsetting in his voice, but still respectful.
“Life and death arent to be toyed with...” She spoke in her usual sweet tone. “Once someone’s mission is done in his world, its time for them to go... You can’t force it. I thought it would be the same for Jesse, but... just look at them.” Both Lucio and Angela took a look at Jesse and Hanzo holding each other, both sharing tears of joy”. Mr. Shimada did things in the past that he regrets, and still blames himself for them. Jesse also has a life of crime behind, and despite him doing a good job on going through the right path now, he still has memories haunting him.” she said it while focusing on Jesse’s robotic arm. “They still have a lot to learn with each other. And don’t you agree that everyone should be free to choose the better way to live their life?” She asked him, with a soft smile across her face.
The DJ and freedom fighter carefully listened to her words,and after a moment of thinking he agreed, with his usual smile. “Of course. And I’ll be there to lift them up. Any time they need.”
She left a chuckle. “Come on, are you hungry? Let’s go take a break at the cafeteria, they have amazing éclairs.” She invited him, clearly hinting to give Hanzo and Jesse privacy.
Lúcio nodded, before looking back at the two men and letting out a hopeful smile. They had each other back again. Better them not mess this up now.
Everything was gonna be okay now.

My sisters keeper
AN: Yes, I am still up at 3:02 am and watching Supernatural while Im about to post this SOA Fic. Plus I did some online shopping and feeling pretty good about that. Anyways hope you enjoy this piece I wrote and Take me to church pt3 will be posted sometime this week. I have a few personal things to take care of and other things that need to be taken care of as well.

You and your sister are out doing errands together. At first you were going to pick up the medications that she has ran out of. The pharmacist always gave you hard time because she thought you would abuse them and leaving Carry to suffer.
“Y/n are we almost done here?” She asks coming behind you.
“Yeah, here take these right away” You tell her and open the bottle to take two tablets out
She takes them from you while she takes a sip from her water bottle.
“Im hungry now” Carry says once we step outside
“Lets go to the diner and get something to eat” You tell her while looking on both sides of the street to cross.
Carry looks down the street and notices a group of motor bikes parked down the street. She lets go of your hand while you are on the phone with your boyfriend. Arguing again. She never liked hearing you argue with him.
“You: Travis I am not doing this over the phone with you right now
Travis: If you two are not back here in 5 min”
You hung up the phone, knowing it would be bad when you got home. Just as long as he wouldnt touch your sister then thats all that mattered.
Your sister has a case of down syndrome and a not so great case of fetal alcohol syndrome. When your mom couldnt care for Carry anymore is when you had her move with you to Charming. You never had a problem caring for her since the both of you are more closer.
“Carry, Im sorry” You said while looking to your side but she wasnt there.
You looked into the shop but she wasnt there, ran across to the diner but she was there either and you ran next door but wasnt there. You came out into the street again, hope you would spot her but no where in sight.
“Hey doll face, sorry we arent open yet. Come back tomorrow” A pudgy man with long curly hair and a long beard says.
“You’re in a biker gang right?” Carry asks looking to the bikes
“Its a motor cycle club. You alright sweet heart?” He replies and asks in hopes she will answer.
“Im great. Im just worried about my sister” Carry replies while her expression changes.
“Is your sister in big trouble, the kind of trouble the cops cant handle” He says while the other guys come rolling in.
“Shes afraid to go to the cops” She replies in a hushed tone
“Hey Bobby, and who is this doll face” The cute blonde haired man says
“Im Carry, whats yours handsome?” She replies very cheerfully
“Im Jackson Teller but you can call me Jax doll face” He says as he introduces himself with a wide smile.
“These are my brothers. The man you were talking to his name is Bobby, that one with the tattoos on his head his name is Juice. Theres Quinn, Happy, Chibs, Tig” Jax finishes off introducing everyone to her
“Why is your nickname Juice? Is it because you always have lots of juice boxes?” She asks as her face lights up at the thought of a juice box
Juice tells her it wasnt that reason and asked if she wanted anything to drink. He takes her inside for a cherry coke.
“Whats going on with the girl?” Jax asks while Chibs and Happy stay outside
“She says her sister is in trouble and is afraid to go to the cops” Bobby replies while looking to Carry
“Did she say why?” He asks in hopes he got a little more info from Carry
“Nope, she stopped once you guys came pulling in” Bobby says while looking to him, Chibs, and Happy
“Sounds like spousal abuse to me” Happy says while looking to Carry and her catching him.
Happy plays along motioning what he did and she smiles at him while gesturing him that shes watching him. He gives her a thumbs up.
“Excuse me, have either of you seen this girl? She goes by the name Carry and shes my sister” You come running towards the group of men standing in front of an ice cream shop while trying to catch your breath.
“She’s right inside lass. She is talking with Juicey over there” The man says with a Scottish accent
“Oh my god. Thank you” You let out a sigh of relief knowing your sister is ok
“Im Bobby, Jax, Chibs and Happy” Bobby introduces everyone to you.
“Hi, sorry Im Y/n” You reply while still feeling less intimated
“Really thank you guys so much for keeping her company. If she kept wandering around by herself then she would be taken away from my care. She has down syndrome and fetal alcohol syndrome” You tell the guys.
“She came here and told us you needed help because you’re afraid of something” Bobby says while looking to you.
You had to tell someone and finally get rid of Travis for good. You had to let someone know or else Carry will be taken away for good.
“Shall we head inside?” You ask looking between the men.
“After ye love” Chibs says while holding the door for you.
His accent is what you can get used of and him calling you love. A man like him is what you needed, someone who knew how to respect a woman and knew how to treat a woman.
“Y/N!!!!!!!!” Carry yells your name in pure happiness and gets up from her chair to run into your arms.
“Ouch. Baby girl you scared me, I was getting worried someone took you from me” You tell her while still feeling tender from the other nights beating.
“Sorry, I just want to help. Are you still feeling sore?” She asks in a hushed tone feeling really bad for taking off on you like that but she had every right to.
“I know. Look you sit with your new friends and I will be sitting over here talking with these guys ok?” You tell her as you look to Juice who gives you a thumbs up and a smile.
“Ok. One more thing, see if any of them are single” She says in a hushed tone give you a wink.
“I think you are to young to be dating any of these guys care bare” You tell her while everyone chuckles.
“I know that, not me. You” She says and sits with Juice
“Playing matchmaker already. Well Im married” Jax says as you sit at the booth with him, Chibs and Bobby.
“Whats the problem lass?” Chibs asks looking to you with a sympathetic expression.
You look to him as if his eyes are looking deep into your soul, pleading for you to tell him what is going on at home and thats what made you break. No one has ever asked you what was going on and it felt good to be asked that. Carry hears you break down, she goes to sit with you and she gives you a hug.
“I know but you have to tell them” Carry says in a hushed tone while everyone in the shop goes completely quiet.
You try to contain your sobs but you couldnt control them because of holding in so much for so long.
“Can I tell them?” Carry asks in hope you will allow her. You nod while Chibs reaches across to give you a napkin.
“For as long as I can remember her boyfriend Travis has been beating her. It wasnt bad at first, they would just argue” Carry says while remembering all those nights ago when she first came to live with you.
“Now?” Jax asks as he tries to contain his anger
“As the years went by, it got worse. He would beat her until she wasnt conscious anymore. She scared me a few times when I saw she wasnt breathing” Carry says while you remember those nights.
“She couldnt go to the cops because they would send me back to our mom and she doesnt care for me properly” Carry continues while they understand.
“Why ye are afraid of going to the cops” Chibs finally understands the situation.
“I like your accent, I could get used of that” Carry says while looking to Chibs, he breaks a smile
“Thank you, I could get used of ye as well love” Chibs says while looking to Carry.
“We will definitely do somethin about that arsehole” Chibs adds while everyone in the shop rolls out
“Ye address lass?” Chibs asks looking to you and you had no problem giving him the address.
“Juicey boy, keep the girls while we head out” Chibs says while walking out.
“Got it” Juice says while giving Carry a small smile.
They stop in the drive way, Chibs bangs on the door and kicks the door open.
“Oh Im sorry, where are my manners” Chibs says with a sarcastic tone
Travis gets up from the couch quickly to see which asshole kicked down his door. When he saw the guys is when he plays it cool.
“Its alright, my girlfriends place anyway” He says trying to maintain his fear
Chibs gives him a good punch to the face and sees him go flying.
“Thats how she feels when you hit her like that” He says while towering over him.
Chibs kicks him repeatedly, pulls him up to give him a few punches to the face while Happy and Quinn hold him up. Bobby goes to pack up his stuff and amazingly he doesnt have much around the house. He comes down the stairs and tosses his stuff down the floor.
“If I ever hear ye come around here again, I will be happy to do this again and who knows maybe no one wont find ye. Arsehole” Chibs growls to Travis as he crawls out the door and gets into his car and drives away as quickly as he could.
“Lets get this place cleaned up for the girls” Jax says while looking at the mess they made coming into the house.
Chibs goes into the kitchen and sees pictures of you and Carry. He smiles at how happy you look and how unhappy you look with Travis.
“Where is Carry?” You ask looking to Juice
“I placed her in one of the rooms upstairs where she could rest” He says as he comes back into the shop.
“How did you manage to get custody over your sister?” He asks looking to you.
“I dont have custody over her, my mom does. I havent gotten around to doing that yet. I had her move out here with me a few years ago. My mom doesnt even notice, she was too doped up at the time when I went and got her” You tell him
“Carry’s sister keeper” Juice says with a meaningful smile
“Its more like shes her sisters keeper” You correct him after taking the last sip from your whiskey
“I think it goes both ways. The way she talks about you is like as if you swooped in and saved her. And same with her for you” He says while getting more candy from the counter.
The bikes roll in and Juice looks out making sure everyone came back whole.
“Jerk is gone and some of my guys made sure he stayed away” Jax says once he enters the shop.
“Where is Carry?” Chibs asks looking around
“Shes upstairs a sleep” Juice says while going up to wake her up and take her home.
“Ye are going to ride with me and I’ll have Juicey boy take Carry home” Chibs says while standing in front of you.
“Nice angel wings” Happy says once he notices your tattoo sprawled across your shoulder blades and coming down your arm.
“Thanks comes all the way down my back to and some feathers are fallen” You say while lifting your tank top to show him the fall feathers tattoo.
“Sick, thats how you do angel wings tattoo” He says proudly as he lifts his arm to give you a high five. You return the gesture and smile.
“Y/n Im going to ride on my first motor cycle” Carry says as she comes down the stairs with Juice with a happy expression.
“Me to” You place your arm around her neck and wink at her.
“Is she going to be alright on the bike?” Chibs asks looking to Carry while Juice helps her with the helmet.
“She will be fine, shes going to love the ride” You tell him and put on the helmet
The long ride to your house was a great one, you got to ride with your knight and shining armour. While Carry enjoyed with her new found best friend, you loved how Carry looked. Happy and care free without the thought of anything bad going to happen.
Once Chibs and Juice pulls into the drive way is when Carry hurried off into the house.
“Juicey, mind giving me a minute with Y/n” He asks while patting his back and pointing at you.
“Sure thing brother, take your time. Im gonna say good night to Carry and head back but you can stay behind, Ill tell the others” Juice says while heading inside
“Mind if I say goodnight to Carry?” Juice asks patting you on the shoulder.
“Sure, she went running up stars. Her room is the second door on the left” You tell him with a wide smile. Happy your sister has finally made a friend.
“Thanks” He says with a wide smile and went up the stairs.
“Juicey boy got attached quickly” Chibs says from the door.
“Im happy though, she hasnt had a real friend since she moved here. Travis never let her out of his sight” You tell him while you motion towards the kitchen and he follows.
“I hope ye dont mind me staying, just in case the bastard tries to come back” He asks in hopes you will have him stay.
“Please. I can make us coffee” You tell him and begin making the pot.
“Night y/n and it was nice meeting the both of you. Wish it was a different circumstance but happy Carry came by. I hope to see you and Carry more often” He says with a smile and walks out the door.
“Aye, thanks brother” Chibs says watching as he walks out the door.
You and Chibs talk all night, getting to know each other and surprisingly had the same common interest in music, movies, and had the same interest in classic cars.
When the sun rose is when neither of you noticed until the conversation continued on the couch and just loving each others company. Until the both of you fell a sleep in each others arms laying on the couch. Carry woke up feeling refreshed and when she came down to make herself some breakfast is when she noticed you both sleeping.
She got the spread and covered the both of you.
“I can definitely get used of this” She says in a hushed tone and continued to the kitchen.
Soon after the both of you woke up to a fresh pot of coffee waffering through the kitchen and into the living room. You got up with a happy expression while Chibs had the same. You walked into the kitchen while he followed and you gave him a cup and he poured himself coffee.
“I hate to cut this short but I got to get going. I forgot I have a job to handle” He says finishing the last contents of his coffee.
“Well I hope to see you again soon” You tell him
“Really?” He asks in hopes you would say that. You nod with a smile
“How about we get some dinner tonight? I can ask Juice to watch Carry for ye” He asks knowing he would love to hang out with your sister.
“YES!! Say yes y/n” Carry yells from the top of the stairs while you both chuckle.
“Sounds like a date” You tell him and give him a kiss to the lips. He accepts the kiss and pulls away shortly after.
You watch him leave from the living room window, you see him drive way and just before he makes the turn is when he gave a wave. You felt happy and completely free of the burden and it was a great feeling. You knew that you can be happy with Chibs and he can make you feel safe. You are happy Carry had ran to that ice cream shop, if she hadnt you wouldnt have met Chibs and the rest of the guys. You were thankful towards Carry and happy she is with you. Your pride. Your joy. Your everything. Along with an added benefit in Chibs.

If you’ve never listened to Chris Webby’s music–you should. In a world where the hip-hop arena is dominated by trappers and mumble rappers with tattoos on their faces and little substance to their lyrics, Webby’s well-rounded bars shine like a beacon in the dark.
Webby became a viral star last year after dropping an amazing freestyle over Dr. Dre’s “What’s The Difference” during an interview with Sway Calloway on SiriusXM. He killed it, dissing “new school” MCs and slaying crooked policy-makers:

I got my competition breathing hard as Chris Christie.
Beyond free-styling, Webby is a great writer. A good intro to his music can be found in his “Raw Thoughts” series, a rap trilogy where he lists all the people he does not like and explains his reasons. In the first song of this trilogy, Webby puts “scummy politicians”—as he calls them—to shame.
It’s hard not to crack up over his slick burns, as he calls the former anti-weed Attorney General Jeff Sessions an “old Smurf,” promising to “light up a doobie” on his “turf.”
As one explores Webby’s music, it’s obvious this guy is all about weed. His albums Homegrown, The Checkup, and Wednesday all feature marijuana leaves on the cover art. Webby also recorded a few odes to pot, with his recent song “Sativa” featuring famous stoner B-Real of Cypress Hill:

Feeling the urge to talk weed with this verbose, pot-loving rapper, High Times hit up Webby to meet up.
Webby’s Love of Weed
Webby says he grew up in a weed-friendly house. His dad was a musician, and his mom was a middle school teacher. They were respected members of the community and enjoyed a good ol’ joint every once in a while.
“I caught them when I was really young and, obviously, at the time they didn’t want me to smoke weed,” Webby tells High Times. “So, when they caught me in the eighth grade, they scolded me. They were right too. They explained my brain wasn’t done forming yet. Weed is for adults.”
But, as he got older, his love of pot could no longer be contained or hidden.
“Nowadays, I smoke weed with my parents,” he says. “I think that being in that sort of a household allowed me to realize marijuana isn’t a bad thing and that people like my mom, a school teacher for more than 30 years, a pillar of society, could use it and still be good, productive people.”
Over time, Webby didn’t just develop a love of weed and a passion for advocacy, he also developed a deep understanding of the strains that best work for him.
“There’s no doubt that different types of weed will put you in different types of places,” he says. “I have my bedtime weed, I have [my] when-I-want-to-write weed, I have a nice sativa for when it’s creative time, and a nice heavy indica when I’m ready to go to bed and just need something to help me get there.”

Over a long conversation, Webby discussed politicians, opioids, his ADHD and use of Adderall, and many other topics. At one point, we decided to go for a classic cannabis enthusiast question: What’s the story of the best joint you’ve ever smoked?
“Well, that one’s a thinker,” he says. “Let me think for a while. In the meantime, let me tell you the story about the guy who taught me how to roll a joint. I was in high school and I went on vacation with my buddy Nick to an island called Bequia, in the Caribbean. It’s a very small island and his family knew somebody who lived there, so we went and stayed with them.”
“I remember we would walk around this island, we met everybody, and we befriended this young Rasta named Linton. I would say was probably about 25 [years-old] or so. Linton was the fucking man. He showed us around a bunch of nights and he was always rolling joints. Up to this point, I had remained pretty unsuccessful at rolling a good joint. Linton broke it down for me and he not only taught me how to roll a joint, [but] he also taught me how to roll a joint while on the move. We walked around town and he had me rolling joints until I got it right.”
“To this day, I still use Linton’s rolling technique.”
‘Yo, Hillary’
Moving away from cannabis, we returned to “Raw Thoughts” rap. In that song, Webby does not only destroys Jeff Sessions, but he also incinerates other well-known conservative politicians like Ted Cruz (whose face puts him in a “crappy mood”) and former Environmental Protection Agency Administrator Scott Pruitt—promising to “build a pipeline through his wooden kitchen cabinets.” At one point, Webby unexpectedly recites:
But, yo, Hillary.
Really? You think that I wouldn’t mention you
Just ’cause I tend to be liberal with all my general views?
But you’re an evil lady; [I’ll] say it ’cause I got to.
I’m down to have a woman President. Just not you!
You Claire Underwood-ass bitch, you wicked witch
Lyin’ through your fuckin’ teeth every single chance that you get…
We asked if he was really down to have a woman president. After all, “Raw Thoughts II” is a feminist-as-hell song:
Bill O’Reilly says he’s sorry but really none of us buy it,
You can’t pay me off like all of those women to keep me quiet.
Who cares if he denies it, I’ll still come for him…
I’ll teach that old prick to treat women with respect

When you hear a woman scream: “Don’t touch me!”
“Absolutely,” he unhesitantly responded. “I think a female in the White House could be a great thing. I think that Hillary Clinton is a very poor representation of what a female in America truly is; I think she is a corrupt politician like the rest of them… And, at that point, why even put a gender on it?”
“She is the same as them,” he continues. “She is a horrible person and horrible people cannot be defined by male and female. But I think a woman in the White House could actually be a great thing. I think women think differently [and] tend to be more compassionate [and] tend to sit back and think before they act a little bit more than testosterone-driven men… There are there are differences between men and women. I’m all for equal everything, but beyond all that there is the difference between a man and a female, going back to what we are as a species, before all this society stuff came into play.”
So, what about women in cannabis? What makes the cannabis industry more receptive to women? Why are there more C-Suite female executives in cannabis than in most other industries?
“I think the marijuana industry just attracts a lot of people like us; just cooler individuals who are just with it… Of course, women can be in charge of stuff. For me, that’s a no brainer.
“I think that’s one of the coolest things about marijuana: it brings cool people together. Through my life I’ve met some of the most incredible people through just smoking a joint.”

I love Trump. Hes doing what he said. Presidents supporters keep the faith
Womens Marches and widespread criticism of the Muslim ban have not dented the loyalty of Trump voters
Cast-iron hooks, childrens vinyl records, classic food packages, tobacco baskets, vintage-style olive buckets and a rotary-dial telephone fill the shelves at James and Jess House of Goods. The antiques store opened two years ago, styling itself as rustic, hipster, chic with a twee strapline: Mostly old with a little new.
If the House of Goods was in Washington DC, it would be a decent demographic bet that its owners voted for Hillary Clinton. But it is 75 miles away in Washington County, which Donald Trump won handily. And while the capital city has been roiled by protests since Trump moved into the White House, from where James and Jess are sitting he is doing just fine.
I love Trump, James Zawatski said. I give him credit for doing what he said he was going to do; a lot of politicians dont. Im 47 and I never voted in my life but I did this year. We needed someone with a set of balls to do what needs to be done. Im tired of those liberals.
Trumps asteroid-like impact on Washington DC has caused bewilderment, consternation, disorientation, puzzlement and anger. Democratic politicians have been knocked off balance by a brash adversary while Republicans are struggling to adapt to an unpredictable ally. The media have rained criticism. Residents of DC where Clinton beat Trump by 90.9% of the vote to 4.1% express their mortification and fears. And last months Womens March on the capital was a dramatic statement of anti-Trump resistance.
But across the frontline of Americas increasingly tribal politics in Hagerstown, Washington County, Maryland, the perspective is turned on its head. Whereas critics see Trumps travel bans as un-American and sowing chaos at airports, supporters see him as keeping them safe; where critics see him blowing up foreign policy as he spars with Australia and slaps sanctions on Iran, supporters see him getting tough; where critics see him firing the acting attorney general and trampling on the constitution, supporters see him boldly smashing the old order. And where activists protest, columnists fulminate and millions recoil in fear of a world spinning towards catastrophe, supporters dismiss them as liberal cry babies and praise Trump as the first politician to keep his campaign promises. They see him not as a rampaging rhinoceros but a straight-talking strongman.
His plan to build a wall on the US-Mexico border is one example of this worldview complementarity. I love immigrants, I love Mexicans, but theres a way to do it, theres a procedure, said Zawatski, himself descended from Italian immigrants. These people come and theyre entitled to more than me whos busting his ass seven days a week. Were a great country but were being taken advantage of.
Personally I wouldnt spend money on the wall. Id just shoot them as they come over. Then they wouldnt come.
Zawatski had little sympathy with the hundreds of thousands who took part in the Womens Marches, many of whom wore pink pussy hats and carried placards condemning Trump over his past boast about feeling able to grab women by the pussy. He does not merely turn a blind eye to Trumps misogyny but condones it: What man never grabbed a womans pussy? What man doesnt talk in the locker room about what he did to a woman the night before? Women do that too. Were all human. His wife, Jess, 35, agreed: Its a guy thing. I know James talks like that among guys. So I dont hold it against Trump.
The Womens March, she added, was the stupidest thing ever because some were saying theyre being treated unequally. Women can stand up and go after what they want. Men arent standing in the way.

As Zawatski, wearing tattoos on his arms and a T-shirt with the legend Tattooed and employed, spoke to the Observer, a man stole a decorative sphere off its stand (total price $79) from the pavement outside the store. Zawatski spotted him and raced outside, prompting the man to surrender the object without acrimony.
Technically this is the hood, he remarked. There are a lot of barber shops here that are not barber shops, if you know what I mean. Comparing himself to Trump, he added: I tell the police chief, Do your job. Just do it.
Hagerstown has a drugs problem and several closed-down shops and cafes stand empty. But it challenges and scrambles perceptions of the map seen as crucial to Trumps victory. It is neither the Republican-voting deep south nor the pivotal rust belt portrayed in his dark and divisive inaugural address as containing rusted-out factories scattered like tombstones under the rubric American carnage.
On the contrary, it sits in Maryland, which Clinton won with more than 60% of the vote. It is an almost pretty city of church spires and historic buildings, boasting a fine art museum, biking and hiking trails, theatres and a tourism office, replete with leaflets about the areas civil war heritage and Hagerstowns origins involving an 18th-century German immigrant. On Thursday, students could be seen pouring out of an arts school after class.
Washington Countys median household income is $56,477 (45,000), above average for the nation but well below the state average of $74,149. The county voted 64% for Trump, 31.6% for Clinton. It is a red county in a blue state or, as Clinton supporter Al Steinbach, a 64-year-old sales rep, vividly put it: I call Maryland the vagina map: right down the centre is blue; left and right is red. Welcome to divided America.
Steinbach, who is literally afraid of what Trump might do, reads the Washington Post daily and listens to National Public Radio. When I turn to Fox News and see what the other side are saying, Im appalled by the extreme side they are on.
In the past, it has been argued, communities would be bound together by local newspapers and radio stations, establishing at least some common ground; now, in the age of fragmented digital media, everyone with a phone is an island. Last Thursday, Anthony Kline, 38, a labourer, sat in a no-frills bar watching a new Facebook video made by a bearded, muscular man who claimed to be in Iraq.
The man, called Steven Gern, said he had asked local Iraqis what would happen if he took a walk in town and they had replied he would be snatched, tortured and beheaded on video. This being so, he claimed, why should he let Iraqis into his country? Kline, gripping the phone in his tattooed hand, said: This is as real as it gets.
Trump recently told the CIA that he is in a running war with the media. Kline, who awards the president eight marks out of 10 so far, said: Mainstream media news is definitely partial. They put on what they want you to hear or think. Most people are not educated enough and they take things at face value.
The chorus of liberal outrage that greets Trump daily not only falls on deaf ears among his supporters but appears to harden their view that he is taking on a privileged, self-centred elite. Reflecting on the Womens March that followed inauguration day, Kline said: Youve got a lot of mommys-liberal-baby snowflakes that are used to having their way. Its like your spoiled kid not used to being told no. Once you tell them no, they dont know how to react.
Across town, Marlon Michael, 50, still has a Trump make America great again banner outside his home, part of a duplex with vinyl walls and flagpole with the stars and stripes. The country was going downhill and the rest of the world didnt respect us any more, he said. Trump vowed to bring all that back just like the old days. And the verdict so far? Michaels answer would be unthinkable in swaths of Manhattan: Hes doing wonderful. Hes doing everything he said hes going to do and you cant ask for more than that from a politician.
Democrats, activists and media commentators have denounced Trumps executive order banning travellers from seven Muslim-majority countries, both for its bungled execution and its sinister intent. Chuck Schumer, Democratic minority leader in the Senate, said: There are tears running down the cheeks of the Statue of Liberty tonight. Even Republican loyalists quailed.
A Reuters/Ipsos poll found about 31% of people said the ban made them feel more safe, while 26% felt less safe. Another 33% said it would not make any difference and the rest said they did not know. But Trump voters like Michael, a former US marine who works in home construction, give it a full-throated endorsement. It should have been done eight or 12 years ago, or after 9/11, he said. For the past eight years weve had a president that was a little lighthearted towards the Muslims. We lock our doors so people dont create havoc in our homes; its the same with America. Were shutting our borders so people dont create havoc.

Michael, too, watches Fox News CNN has too much false bullshit thats not true and Trump calls them out on it and has little but contempt for the Womens March. Fucking stupid. For what? What more privileges do you want? Women have equal rights. Theyll still be fighting for it till the end of time. Wearing a Dallas Cowboys T-shirt with an image of fingers in an up yours sign, Michael gives Trump nine out of 10. My only complaint is that I wish he would stay off Twitter.
The election demonstrated that, despite Barack Obamas plea otherwise, there are blue states and red states in America. But there are also blue and red counties. One of the defining splits in the election was between voters with a college degree and those without: according to the FiveThirtyEight website, Clinton improved on Obamas 2012 performance in 48 of the countrys 50 most well educated counties, but lost ground relative to Obama in 47 of the 50 least educated counties critical to her defeat.
Trumps debut in the White House has done little to heal the rift, with each side viewing his policies, pronouncements and antics through a rival prism. Sitting in a coffee shop in Hagerstown, Christianne Smith, 20, an African American student, gave him a score of two out of 10. Hes unfit, inexperienced, he said. He doesnt have the best interests of the people in America. I dont understand how he became president. Maybe its because I didnt vote. So its my fault.
