Storms of a Butterfly: Introducing Felicia Corey

Right I’m about to do something a bit different. Wee intros to the characters of my series. Starting us off is the Witch Mayor of Amity Park from Storms of a Butterfly.

More about her below along, with other picrew and artbreeder art.

Felicia Corey is a woman in her seventies and has lived the majority if not all of her life in Amity Park, she is no stranger to the danger the town holds and is doing her best to work within the limitations of it.

Name and the Character

She was namned Felicia Corey because in Irish the word for Butterfly is Féileacán and while her name might not mean that (it means happy/lucky in Latin) I still liked it and appreciate the connection. Her surname Corey comes from the infamous Giles Corey and his refusal to admit he was a witch during the Salem Witch Trials and instead during his stoning trial he repudably asked for “more weight”.

Not only did I liked the Salem Connection but I found it slightly amusing someone named Corey would be a witch and an older individual at that. I also found it befitting of her character as a while physically frail at times, still doing her damndest to do her best for Amity Park and its citizens no matter what, refusing to cow to threats or subjucation.

Background

She is a witch, with a witch mother and unknown father and it was her mother who taught her everything she needed to know. She is incredibly powerful and could find employment or power if she chooses to branch out but Felicia finds great pleasure and joy in representing and protecting her community for everything they’ve done for her.

Whether it be regular day to day business, fixing roads, discussing trivial matters or dueling out disagreable citizens, it is within her job that the others in the Amity Park Witch Community assigned her to do.

However even she is not as well equiped for the ghosts as she might want to admit, she is currently trying to level the playing field, but the only thing she can do currently is limit the damage and erase memories, but she knows she can only do so for so long with the epidemic of ghosts and the very nature of the town itself.

Story

Unlike Dumbledore, who branched out far and wide in regards to power and respect from the rest of the wizarding world and has made his name in the history books. Felicia refuses to walk that path even if she could have. She focuses on Amity Park, her home town and despite that potential. She is satisfiying in serving a town and people who would otherwise be abadoned and ignored despite its very real issues, ignoring it would bring.

She might not ever be a big name but her story and role is no less important and shows there is countless stories and magic users who have made marks for themselves maybe in the most mundane of ways. And especially within Amity Park.

Because if she and APWC wasn’t there to intervene and search for witches, that would’ve been missed by the various wizarding schools in the Community, that would not spell good news and she knows that and she has seen the consequences of such.

I might one day discuss about those incidents which even the APWC have missed because of the very nature of the system they live under. We’ll see more about her role in the story and how she and the APWC continue to react to the ghosts, their own issues and Danny.

“Please, tell them to stop!” You whispered, looking at Jumin with the big doe eyes you used when you wanted something to go your way. You even gently touched his hand, trying to wrap your fingers around his to calm him down, only to be met with a cold empty stare of disgust in return. It pierced through your heart like a thousand sharp arrows and your throat tightened in fear as you watched the bussinessman’s bodyguards beat your lover into a sweaty mess of flesh, snot and blood, weeping on the floor. The poor unfortunate soul was two punches away from the afterlife and there was no one to blame, but yourself. Shivers ran through your body from the cold and you realized you were still half - naked, the only thing protecting your most intimate parts being the oversized shirt of the dying man. Jumin glared at you for a long moment, studying the soft features of your delicate face before making an important decision.

“Kill him.” He finally ordered, voice monotone and unbothered by the inhuman whim. With a quick snap of his slender fingers the CEO-in-line had your paramour lifeless, dead on the ground. It happened so fast you found it hard to process down the murder, despite seeing clearly the unmoving figure and all the red sticky liquid he was drowned in. A hard lump stuck at the back of your throat, making it hard to swallow or even breathe, but the panic rising in your chest went unnoticed by Jumin, who was ready to turn his full attention to you, pining you with his cruel gray eyes. “I thought you were different.” He started off slowly, moving closer to you. “You were always so sweet and innocent I almost fell for your little tricks.” The man smiled bitterly, the sadness reflecting in his pupils as he took another step towards you. Now you could feel his big hands grabbing at your hips, drawing you in, and his hot breath on your neck - but he didn’t bite just yet. “I should have known better, that’s on me. After all you are just like those women who use my father for his money and status.” He whispered into your ear as he dig his nails deep into you bare thighs, squizing the naked flesh roughly. “You may be a cheap lying whore, but I still love you.” The bussinessman scratched at the vulnerable skin on your lower body before placing a small wet kiss on your collarbone. “I have invested so much in you, darling, but you seem to have forgotten that.” Jumin finally raised his head, smashing his lips onto yours, pushing his tongue all the way in, leaving you breathing hard and brushing off the saliva running down your chin. “I will teach you what happens when you forget your place, kitten.”

WIth that the man dragged you towards the unmade bed, a harsh reminder of your betrayal, and despite all your squirming and pulling away, begging him to let you go, soon he had you pinned onto the mattress with your wrists trapped beneath his. The director wasted no time in ripping apart the clothing, soaked with the smell of another man. The swift aggressive move left you fully exposed and bare in front of the hungry lustful monster, the fear and andrenaline in your veins turning everything into a hazy mess of ugly emotions and silent sobs. You tried to close your legs, but the attempts to cover yourself were fruitless as the rich man simply tied your thighs, spreading you all to himself. Jumin couldn’t help running a finger up your slit, circling the small sensitive bud in the center until he felt your walls clench around his forefinger, and eventually it came out wet.

day 1 who do you think you are - character recs

Creator’s Week 2021 for @roswellnewmexicocreate - Day 1 : Character Recs

This is my favorite fandom event, and my third year doing it. The last year was really difficult, and fanfic more than ever was my escape from it. Shout out to all the writers, commenters, and lurkers who kept fandom going during it.

Rosa Ortecho:

heal it or break it all apart by @adiwriting : (7,600) All Rosa’s ever done is break things. Her entire life she’s destroyed everything she’s ever touched. So it’s really no surprise when she comes back that her powers do the same. Alternatively- 4 times somebody tries to get Rosa to seek help with her powers and one time she decides to help herself. GEN

why i like it: I pretty much love whatever Britt writes, but in the light of how season 3 is going, I found myself returning to this fic more than a few times. She really captures the fierce but vulnerable Rosa in this beautifully.

Kyle Valenti:

at every occasion i’ll be ready for a funeral by @bydayornight (1,330) Kyle goes on a vacation after the events of 3x04 and meets an unlikely beach companion. GEN

why i like it: Christine has become one of my new favorite writers, and has been a season 3 coda writing machine. Here is where we all would like Kyle to be - lounging on a beach without a care in the world (with that RNM twist! lol) She also does a brilliant job with the Kyle and Michael vibes here.

Maria Deluca:

Butter(bar)flies by @andrea-lyn (4,447) When all of Maria’s people fly away for new opportunities, she needs to find new ones. The lost decade and what should have been. MILUCA

why i like it: Manda has written some of my favorite stories, and even has dragged me into Ted Lasso, but this little lost decade AU is one of my favorites. She captures the flirty vibe of season 1 Michael/Maria, and inserts it into a time when it really makes sense to me for that a friends-with-benefits-relationship should have begun, to give weight to a choice for Michael. Maria is wonderfully characterized here, and it really makes it clear how a real love triangle should have been structured.

Liz Ortecho:

heart of lightning (a roswellian tale) by @bitch-ass-aliens (20,095) When Ser Elizabeth Ortecho of the Roswellian Court is sent by Queen Isobel to retrieve the heart of the missing King Maxwell from a fearsome lightning dragon guarding it, she knows success could bring her one step closer to completing a quest of her own. Ten years ago, a mage named Ophiuchus curse her sister with eternal slumber, and Liz has been searching for him ever since. Saving the king could be the key to learning Ophiuchus's true identity and saving Rosa. But the dragon is not what it appears to be. Soon Liz finds herself needing to guard her heart from feelings forgotten long ago as she and her friends journey back to Roswell, King Max by their side, with more than just the fate of Rosa hanging in the balance. For Ophiuchus's plans are bigger and more dangerous than any of them realize. ECHO

why i like it: This was part of the RNM Big Bang last year and as a fellow participant, I did my best to read and feedback the other submissions, which meant reading something that wasn’t Malex 😂🤯 - suz made it easy, writing a beautifully detailed medieval AU that retold the story of Rosa, Noah, and Max’s S1 sacrifice, through the amazing POV of Ser Liz. This story had everything I love about Liz- her devotion to her family, her bravery in doing hard things, and her love for Max.

Max Evans:

highway to the sun by @angsty-nerd (22,236) Noah’s heart is failing, and Max is on the verge of death. His final wish is to see Liz one last time, so he and Michael road trip to Los Angeles so that Max can say his goodbyes. ECHO

why i like it: Another part of the 2020 RNM Big Bang - Instead of a focus on Liz in this Echo story, we’re deep in the psyche of Max Evans, who is trying to tie up loose ends before he dies. I love the atmosphere of the road trip, the sadness of the clock that Max is trying to run out, and the whole Michael/Max brotherly bond in this story. It’s got all the sweet elements of some of my favorite romantic dramas - like “Beaches” or “Dying Young”, but mixed with the sci fi of RNM. Even though it was written pre-season 3, I really love how it ties up season 2 here.

Alex Manes:

i’m just like my mother, we both love to run @meneatyoghurt (5,211) After what his dad does, he runs and runs and runs. A look at Alex's relationship with running, from track and field to leaving Roswell. MALEX IMPLIED

why i like it: Alex is one of my favorite characters on RNM, mostly because of how hard he tries in spite of his flaws. I love a good story that focuses on why it’s a struggle for Alex to be present, and doesn’t shy away from the fallout of his actions. This is a gorgeous look into Alex and his tendency to run to feel safe, and how that affects his relationships, and why he wants to stop. I just have a lot of feelings about Alex, especially after reading this.

Michael Guerin :

looking for yourself out there by @haloud (6,670) It’s early; it’s a weeknight. Michael can only be here to get blasted or for Marco himself, and both of them know it.It’s been a while since this was a game, for Michael. The flirting he did with Maria was something else, a class all her own. Sex, and the lead up to sex, for the longest time was either life-or-death or it was a helpless, hopeless lashing out for any human contact. (It was either Alex, or it was Maria, or it wasn’t.)So this is nice. MICHAEL/OTHER

why i like it: I privately think hal understands Michael Guerin like no other, and their fic is just a delight for anyone who wants to look under that macho cowboy exterior to see him. One of the things we both agree on as Michael Guerin fans, is that Alex is not the male exception for Michael. And while the show will probably never deliver a Michael/OMC storyline like they have with Max/Jenna, Isobel/Blair, Liz/Heath, Alex/Forrest - that’s what fanfic is for and this story is so satisfiying. If you don’t come away from this story loving Marco and wishing he was real... I don’t know what to tell you. I was so inspired by it, I wrote my own Michael/OMC story.

Isobel Evans:

future starts slow by @foramomentonly (4,799) The bartop is sticky, but Maria's skin is clean and soft.This is how it starts. Brushes of fingers as Maria passes over a glass of wine; her cool, dry hand cupping Isobel's wrist as she reads her palm; Isobel's fingertips pressed to Maria's temples, wisps of curls caught around her knuckles as they practice combining their powers. MARIBEL

why i like it: It’s just facts that Maria and Isobel have incredible chemistry, their banter is off the charts, and I love this sexy story of Isobel approaching Maria for more after they’ve been circling each other for a while. It’s a gorgeous look at two strong women who very rarely let down their guards, but for each other, they do. The sex is really hot, but I think what lingers most with me is how this story rewards the swan dive of hope, Isobel after a lifetime of “being who she should be” becomes who she wants to be, a woman who loves fiercely but not destructively. Of course, Maria is no wilting flower here, which makes it all the sweeter.

I have plenty of questions about your fanfics I don't even know when to start. Can I just name every one of them and send you star with it?

But please tell me something interesting funfact behind Heart Machinations? Also were you at some point considering bad/different ending?

i think i would never finish writing if you did send me all of them even with the star, i ramble a lot and go on tangents, but if you send them like 3 fics per day i can make it i promise.

Ok to start! Nope! This was the story where i literally envisioned the ending first and had to go backwards to write it. The ending was solid.

But for fun facts!! Oh boy.

This entire story begun with the idea of a one shot, with a slight different plot, it would have ended with Peter as an old man uploading his mind like he promised Elias in the fic and coming back as an Ai, to stay with Elias for as long as they could. I ended up switching things arounf in my head until i ended up with the image.

The thing that started this entire fic.

Peter floating in space with Elias declaring his love.

I was forced by the entire story to find ways to keep them from confessing earlier than intended. God did i regret having to put it so later, because the mental flips i needed to justify them not realizing, were driving me up to a wall.

Another thing that i was not aiming for, but ended up liking was the TimPeter, i didnt aim for it to be a plot point, i didnt even ship them, but i wrote them so well i actually hesitated. Not to the Elias romance with Peter that was a given, but i hesitated to actually make a policule out of everyone.

In the end i decided to go for my original plan, but it had been a posibility.

Most of the relationships surged as the soty progressed, because i realized if it was only them it would get boring so i started to shuffle characters and relationships and it worked far better than i intended.

Now the other interesting tidbit.

Was that originally i was intending for Elias to be the actual big bad, a la Glados in portal. Elias tricks Tim and Peter into thinking Jon went rouge and he got Leitner killed so Peter connects him, Elias pretends things are normal but sends him off to rrepair something outside, once Peter is safe he uses the gas to kill everyone who is not going to be sent to do experiments in the hidden labs.

Martin opens the door for Peter makes him help by trying Elias like the original one did to get himshut down. He realizes and hurt tries to attack him, Martin uses the portal door and Peter still tries to hold unto Elias, but they ended up slipping and going into space.

The Simon plot point was always going to be there, same as the oxygen and confession.They apologize and everything.

In fact Peter was never supposed to realize Elias was killing people until he takes over. I realized it would be impossible to keep him in the dark for so long along with the not confessing so i had to give one up for the story and i was set on my ways.

The more i developed them, the more i started to change the plot to fit better with the new narrative wanting it to be more satisfiying.

Something else that i changed in the story, was that after Leitner dies, Gertrude was supposed to come to check the station, Elias sees her and gets her killed. It did not pan out of course, because i considered it would be too out of nowhere.

When i realize the story was sort of getting shifted i went with the idea to switch the notSasha on its head. Which created lovely Pasha!! Whom i love a lot.

Another thing that i had to develop because i grew very fond of it were Missy and Titania. Particularly Missy, since Titania was a stand in for the vast in some ways. Missy was needed to provide Peter some form of love, since yes, i made the Lukas terrible people, but a child still needs some love to grow and i wanted someone to help with that since Simon couldnt. I love her a lot and honestly wish i could use her in more stories because she is a great character. I know people dont really are in it for the original characters but she is dear to me.

The honest to god most fun i had during the story was writting the chats between the characters and the moments where Elias and Peter where being horny for each other. Peter freaking out silently about the things Elias said, while Elias was being the most horny creature in the station was delightful.

My favourite parts were also writing Elias realizing that he ruined Peter, that he had caused his misery, i wish i could have gone harder on those. Because they are a great part of his motivations. He starst not caring but the more he falls in love, the more he realizes how much of a horrible person he is and how much he is hurting Peter. I love that, i put it before but i like making characters go though bad stuff to get them to the good, to get that catharsis after all the bad.

I wanted to do a bonus. Where Peter does go to Simon’s funeral and everyone has to sit there while Android Simon was just chilling giving his own eulogy.

One thing i sort of chikened out of, but left crumbs around was the plot point that ogElias and Micheal Shelley were dating. Thats why Elias had the picture and writings about him. They split due to Gertrude and Elias defending JON4H. Its why Elias could keep Helen so easily to raise her. She calls him uncle, because they had broken up and he felt he didnt deserve to take that from Micheal.

Currently they made up and since Elias was single they are patching things up, Helen was thrilled.

This is also the story where the cats appear. And im so glad for it.

Captain was an idea based on the au of another fic i love Timeline of Theseus, i just pictured Peter getting the cat and voila. (No, there is no cat in there, but it would had been so funny) They were foils, Elias has a lonely cat and Peter a beholding one. They fall in love. I like that.

Thats all i can remember now. Nikola was always also a plot point, i mean who else would make androids but the puppet herself! Since ideally i intended for Elias to get a body, it was supposed to happen.

I went off, but i really did have a lot of ideas and scrapped ones that i figured no one would see. Im happy i could just leave them out to the world!!

it depends on what kind of blind date is this. i mean like blind dates in shop: never did that. blind dates online (tinder) : generally i read about the interests and if i find something that catches my eye, probably i’ll introduce myself with something related on that

not wanting to go into details but...

“person °1″ - he has yet to literally grow his balls out and gives the middle finger a bit to his parents and quite a bit growing out of confidence.

What’s Your Creative Fruit?

I had an interesting conversation the other day over Discord about working as a creative person. Some of us felt that if we could either create as part of our paid job or as a personally fulfilling hobby on our own time, but never had energy to do both. Others felt that creativity was a process of inertia, and that if there was any chance to be creative for themselves, it had to start during the workday and the personal works were much easier and more satisfiying having “warmed up” all day.

I have been thinking about this and turning it over in my head for days now, and it has a little ring of truth to it, that there isn’t a single way to best manage your creative energy. Kind of like there isn’t a single way to grow every fruit. Also, I’m hungry so I’m using a fruit metaphor.

🍊 Creative Oranges 🍊

Oranges grow best in tropical or subtropical climates, that have a steady warmth year round. A cold snap will disrupt the entire plant, even destroying an entire crop, and it takes a very long time to get back into a healthy growing pattern.

Similar to how an extrovert draws energy from socialization, if you are a Creative Orange, you draw your creativity from creating. Embrace it, and find ways throughout the day to create. You need to take measures to protect yourself when you see the frost on the horizon, but you can recover.

🍒 Creative Cherries 🍒

Cherries on the other hand, grow much further north and have adapted to harsh winter periods. If a cherry tree doesn’t experience a sufficient winter, it won’t bloom or fruit the following spring. The hibernation is necessary for a new cycle of flowering and growth.

If you're a Creative Cherry, creating uses up creative energy like socialization eventually tires an introvert. Also like an introvert, that doesn't mean that this energy should never be used - and it would make you miserable to never use it all. Respect your need to winter and fully enjoy the harvest when it comes.

🌿 Creative Almonds 🌿

Let’s face it, not every tree bears fruit. But that doesn’t mean it bears nothing at all. The nuts of almond trees draw very little attention from a distance but still have the potential to nourish others.

Nobody is completely devoid of creativity. Even if you don’t draw or write or otherwise consider yourself a “creator”, you are creative. You create in your own way, even if you don’t realize it. Creativity is just finding novel ways to solve problems and share experiences. Making on-the-fly adjustments to recipes, digging through data to find meaning in the numbers, finding a way to refine your in-game performance a little bit more, making your loved ones smile with surprises - these are all creative.

Newtina’s progress (thoughts)

With the release of footage of posters for the coming movie, we now know that Tina will find out about the photo Newt is keeping of her in his suitcase ... but where are they going to go from there?

After their parting in New York, in which it was clear for both what was happening, their contact appearently was limited to letters for the past few months - and she must find out about his conflict over his brothers’ engagement to Leta.

Katherine Waterston specificly stated that Newt has, in a way, damaged Tina, and that she isn’t happy with him throughout this movie. What we saw in the poster of them including the photo could be a positive conclusion ... him making a point of really having no (or no more) doubt about his feelings.

Redmayne and Waterston have pointed out, however, that both characters have problems to talk about their feelings, that there is a lot of work ahead - to me, that doesn’t sound like we’ll have a commitment by the end of TCOG.

But, there is a but... this doesn’t mean that their romance doesn’t get some kind of start by the end of the sequel.

Decreasing the distance

I’ve been hoping for a while that, by the end of TCOG, Tina, either as a result of loosing her job at the MACUSA and (hopefully) being offered a job by Theseus, actively joining the hunt for Grindelwald in Europe or following her sister and Jacob, maybe even as an act of defiance against her ministry’s ways, decides to move to London.

In this case, now being sure how they feel about each other, but knowing there are difficulties to work on and yet not much time spend actually getting to know the other, they could agree to start going on dates. After all, one of the significances of Newtina is that the romance plays out more realisticly, with more reason and sense for the future.

The third movie could take all the time of showing them after dating for months and being happy, but still having doubts - concluding in them overcoming such and a VERY satisfiying kiss... perhaps ending the movie with a wedding a few months later?

This would also work if we speculated a specific time for the third and fourth movie...

The Marriage

We know Newt (I hope involuntarily) gives Hagrid the egg containing Aragog around 1941/42 ... between this year and 1928, by chance the year of the next movie, we would have a difference of 13/14 years.

If Newt and Tina got married by, let’s say, the end of 1928, and either did have a child about a year later and maybe a second/third one later on, (or all of them a little later) their kids should be at Hogwarts/on the brink to it by the fourth movie.

Maybe we will get a subplot in which they start to struggle with their marriage after over a decade, especially since their kids aren’t home for most of the year ... which is no shame, I think many couples would be a little confused about how to rearrange their home life through this ...

It would be a nice adding to their romance if, either in this movie or the final installment, they would come across the basis of their relationship and why they neither can nor will break up.

Geometric construction is an important part of my practice. It has been a part of various esoteric activities going back to the time of the Greeks. I find it to be a very satisfiying way of making, especially when the most primitive tools of a compass and straightedge are used. I call this the Grand Construction of the Six Elements. The hexagon is my general symbol for the six creative elements together and the six intertwined hexagons illustrate the overlapping properties of the elements.

I'll try to make a print from this.

MY HONEST OPINION

This is what I’m feeling after watching How to Train Your Dragon: The Hidden World yesterday. It contains many spoilers, so don’t read it if you haven’t watch it. Also, this is just my opinion. Don’t judge me.

First of all, I’m very disappointed in this movie. Don’t get me wrong, I like it but it wasn’t as epic as I thought it would be. Maybe because the two previous movies were really good and surprised me in many ways, so I thought the final one will be even more epic. But I was wrong. It’s the weakest of the trilogy, and I feel like it didn’t live up to its standards.

I don’t even know the main focus to this final movie. It should be about “Hiccup letting Toothless go” right? But I don’t really feel the emotion, because they aren’t many scenes that involve the two of them together. I know the previous movies already show us so many Hiccup-Toothless moments, but is it too much to ask if I want just 5 minutes of Hiccup-Toothless moment without anyone interrupting them? I mean you have to show and remind the audience of their close bond before breaking them, right? And sadly, they aren’t any scene like that. It’s always Hiccup and Toothless and other characters.

I feel like this movie is about Hiccup-Astrid and Toothless-Light Fury rather than Hiccup-Toothless itself. I don’t know why but they seem distant to each other, and focusing more on their romantic partner rather than “the best friend bond” that they have. I didn’t say there shouldn’t be romance, it’s okay to have romance because I believe every movie have their own romance plot, but not every movie should focus on it. I mean, this is a story about “a boy and his dragon”, right? The main focus should be about “best friend”, right? I fell in love with How to Train Your Dragon because of Hiccup and Toothless’ bond, not Hiccup and Astrid. So, for god sake, please focus more on them!

Light Fury. I love her and I hate her. I love her design and the way she disappears, it was amazing. The animators were doing a great job animating her. But I hate her because she’s one of the reason Toothless leaves Hiccup. She was also kinda clingy to Toothless, I think. And wherever she asked Toothless to follow her, he will accept her right away. Toothless have you forgotten about your boy, Hiccup?

At the beginning, it didn’t start like the way it used to. No “This is Berk” narration until a few minutes after the movie begins. I guess they wanted to tried new things and give the audience more like “the finale” feel, but I prefer the old ways better.

Grimmel and the villain. Between Drago Bludvist and Grimmel the Grisly, I choose Grimmel as the best villain. Probably because he’s smart, like Viggo Grimborn from Race to the Edge, and I feel like he’s the one for Hiccup. The right enemy I mean. They both pretty smart and tactical. I feel like he could do more, and have more screen time in this movie. For the final battle, it’s good, but I was kinda hoping all of Berk could join the fight. Since it was the last movie, why not have all of Berk fights to defend themselves, not just the dragon riders.

My favorite scene? All scenes that has Stoick in it. I miss Stoick so much, and I always teared up whenever they show Stoick. Also, I’m sorry Hiccup but I think Stoick is a much better chief than you. Why? Because I don’t support Hiccup’s decision to move Berk to the Hidden World. I know how much Hiccup love dragons, but come on... Are you really going to give up everything just so you can live together with dragons in their own world? I mean it’s not just you who lives there, but all of Berk. Have you thought this through? Do you think the dragons will accept humans in their own world? Oh Stoick, if only you didn’t die in the second movie, please look at the dumb decision your son makes.

There are many parts that makes me teared up. One, when Hiccup give Toothless the new tails, and before Toothless can rush out to find the Light Fury, he looks at Hiccup. It was the moment I knew Toothless won’t come back to Hiccup. Two, when Hiccup and Astrid search for Toothless in the Hidden World, and Toothless was roaring to all dragons, Hiccup realize that he has to let him go. This scene broke me so much. The way Hiccup looks at Toothless. I can’t describe it. Three, the goodbye scene. Maybe it’s not as emotional as I thought it would be, but hey if I remember I didn’t like the “Toothless Found” moment in the second movie at first, and now it was my favorite scene. Hiccup’s words were amazing, and I can feel his emotion really well. He’s letting his best friend go. He’s accepting the future without Toothless. It’s hard to watch without crying. But I hate that Toothless was like “Oh you’re letting me go? Ok then.” I don’t know why but the way I see it, Toothless was emotionless in that scene. It almost feels like all he cares about was the Light Fury, not Hiccup. So, I have a mixed feeling in that scene.

Next is the wedding scene. Well, from the beginning of the movie, Gobber talks about how Hiccup should just marry Astrid and live happily ever after running the village. And they also go on and on about marriage until the end. This maybe an unpopular opinion, but I personally think they shouldn’t show us the wedding scene because it’s not important and add nothing to the story. That’s because the scene before the wedding was the one where all of Berk letting go of their dragons, and then cut it to the wedding, and cut it again to the end. So, what’s the point of showing the wedding scene? Why not skip the wedding and show us the Haddock family in the end? After all, we all know Hiccup will marry Astrid sometime in the future without even showing the wedding scene.

Finally, the ending. It wasn’t what I suspected. I thought they were going to be separated from each other for good, but they actually meet again, when they’re older and have kids on their own. It sounds like a fanfiction ending to me. This maybe a very unpopular opinion, but I don’t want Hiccup to see Toothless ever again. I wanted the goodbye to feel more real and emotional, and also because of the popular quote “There were dragons when I was a boy”, I keep convincing myself the dragons were disappear for good. Apparently not. Also, in the flashback scene where Stoick said he’ll find the Hidden World and close it, I thought it was going to be the final conclusion for this movie, with Hiccup being the one who close it. I feel like it’s the right answer for why there aren’t any dragons today. Guess I was hoping to much.

The animation is really good. I really love the part where Hiccup and Astrid went to the Hidden World. It. Was. AWESOME! The music was fine. Tbh I don’t really focus on the music, but it was good. You can really tell you’re watching How to Train Your Dragon from the music arrangement. And last thing, it was good and satisfiying movie. But I feel like they could do better you know, since it was the final movie after all. Anyway, it’s still HTTYD and I like it even if it’s not masterpiece like the two previous film, but hey it’s better to be average than bad, or even worst. Oh yeah, the credits was beautiful tho. Good one, DreamWorks! And thank you for this amazing trilogy.

So, that’s my honest opinion about How to Train Your Dragon: The Hidden World. Although I know many people won’t agree with what I said, heck I don’t even know if someone would actually agree with me. But everyone has a right to state their own opinion, and this is mine. So let it go, and accept that people have different opinion.

For any artist on tumblr who need to hear it: try not to look at your followers count for a while, it helps

Hi there guys!

I’m not sure if this is going to help or not tbh. I don’t mean to create a big discussion over this… I just need to talk about everything I felt since I created my page, Chibibatch, on 2015.

I remember the first time a drawing of mine made a huge success on this website, my first interactive painting of Sherlock. 45k notes! I was SO happy to have my work recognized. I love doing chibis and cute stuff, and since that’s what made people happy too, I was nothing but glad that I could keep providing things for people to enjoy. I don’t regret to have been part of the Sherlock Fandom so actively as a fanartist as I have been.

But

I also felt that something was holding me back. Before my page, my work was incredibly more versatile as I explored many types of drawing styles. Between 2015 and 2016, 90% of all my production consisted on chibis and heavily stylized drawings. I stopped studying anatomy, color, composition, backgrounds… I even refused other types of illustration work in order to focus on my fanart commissions and creating content… as long as my follower count kept rising for my chibis it was like feeling validated and accomplished as an artist. It was a very satisfiying feeling, a rush that I couldn’t get enough.

The penny dropped when I compared an older drawing with more anatomical features with a recent one I did on a whim. They were almost the same. In a year, I have barely improved my technical knowledge because I have been drawing the same thing too frequently.

And GOD, that hit me hard. Suddenly everything that I have been neglecting came back as a feeling of intense guilt and a feeling of uselessness that I have never felt about my work before. As I posted other original works that had little to do with chibis, I noticed the attention it got was not the same, which is perfectly natural as I have been running a theme-oriented blog for so long, but in my desperate mind it was like a punch to the gut. This is by NO MEANS my followers’ fault, as this had more to do with my mental health at the time that didn’t let me rationalize it further.

But it’s a fact that the single-themed blog thing affected my versatility. I started to doubt myself and find every single mistake I could in every single drawing I did. I obsessively observed more accomplished artists’ pages and wondered why would I even continue to draw if people could enjoy such better quality work instead. This was not a simple, passing thought. This feelings woke up with me every single day, every time I picked up a pencil. It was NOT healthy and affected my personal life as well.

By the end of 2016 my self esteem as an artist was completely shattered. I was literally drawing and posting on automatic. I tried to get out of the Sherlock Fandom a bit, tried to explore other styles but my self deprecating demeanor kept holding me back, and by every “different” drawing I posted I would lose 4 or 5 followers. It was driving me to a point where I thought “should I just stop drawing?”

And that made me feel so empty and alone. Drawing is a very special part of me, and I used to hold it dear. The thought of stopping was so repulsive that it drove me to keep drawing, day by day……

First, I tried to draw for other fandoms, in other styles. Yuri on Ice!! helped me a lot in this sense. Then I began to look for concept series of original stuff. Four Elements, Signs, Aesthetic, anything. I made a folder of every reference I found pretty. And most importantly: I stopped myself from looking at my follower/Like count.

You have no idea how simply stopping myself from looking at that count made a difference. I suddenly felt like I was drawing just for the happiness of it again. It was like it was when I started this blog.

By mid 2017 I was even studying again. I decided to focus a bit on noses and planes of the face, other painting techniques and exploring other styles making the most of my versatility. I rediscovered my passion for not only cute stuff, but also darker themes, with darker colors. I began to explore my relationship with architecture and drawings. Right now I’m moving on to the anatomy of hands and perspective.

Now I have TONS of tutorial videos for study and I train more than I post “official” drawings.

I don’t regret making chibis and brightening people’s days. I met some of the most important people of my life during this amazing time. I have a lot to thank to the Sherlock Fandom. I will also NOT stop drawing chibis at all, this is not what this text is about.

But I regret letting social media pressure dictate my value as an artist. I regret caring more about how many followers I had than the quality of the art I was making. I regret I forgotten one of my most particular asset as an artist: my versatility.

This is my ART blog, and now I’m going to post art with more variety. I’m going to post studies, unfinished work, other styles, other medias, 3D, sketchs, smooth paintings, anime paintings, fanarts, original work, humorous stuff, conceptual stuff… because it’s important to me that I keep doing it.

I don’t know how many followers I gained or lost on this process. But I’m happier with my path now, and that matters too.

So if that helps any artist who is feeling the same…well. it’s a plus :)

CCI CAMPAIGN

With our new project we were given the brief of making and helping introduce a fresh new look to the Kingston CCI brand. We were told that this had to include making a Instagram campaign which represented the Kingston art courses in a eclectic and fashionable manner, whilst retaining the uniqueness that is so symbiotic with art courses at the university. We had to create animations in different ways which helped showcase the CCI brand. Pricilla ended up joining the group towards the end of the project so at first it was just myself and Preticha.

in order to gain a good understanding of the brief and what was required of us I came up with a PowerPoint presentation to contextualise and bullet point the things we needed to focus on.

The next thing we did is focus on the logo. Branding is one of the most important things for anyone that is trying to promote anything and a logo is normally the frontrunner of the branding. Your logo helps attract your target audience, helps attract potential clients and contributes to your unique selling point. We realised this was one of the most important things we could focus on.We wanted something fresh, something aesthetically pleasing and minimal but with a splash to it that still made it stand out. I went on the internet and began brainstorming. I found several logos that I found inspiring and then brought them into Preticha to find out her opinion.

.After looking at the images I brought in me and Pretchia began brainstorming and sketching out designs. We wanted to create something that was appealing to the eye but not tacky. we understood that our target audience would be in between the ages of 18-30 and we wanted to create something that resonates with them. so we put are self in their shoes ad began to brainstorm and sketch logos and images we think we personally would be captured by.

After this process we were happy with what we came up with. We went home and decided to focus on trying to build are logo using adobe photoshop.

I then sent it to Preticha to get her opinion and she stated she thinks its a good start but we definitely need colour and more of eye popping lay out to it.

We decided to go to the library and Pretchia added on to my original image.

Over a period of time me and Preticha went back and fourth with the image and finally settled on one.

After showing are logo to Xavier he explained to us that we needed to include ‘creative and cultural industries’ on it which we hadn't done. So we then went back, re edited the image, made sure that the name of our brand was showing and visible and below is the final outcome after the necessary changes.

I came up with the idea of adding arrows to our final image, I felt like the arrows would be great signifiers on the logo, I felt like it gave the image the impression of direction and security, the idea that cci was leading you to a secure path through the education and career prospects of the course.

Are next step was storyboarding, based on what we wanted for the video we had to come up with 5 four second videos which were required to have four stories and a ending. We sketched several storyboards showing how we wanted each story to be displayed visually from the beginning to the ending. We started off with our concept of the ‘big bang’ that’s what we wanted to represent cci as a course. We believe that CCI has such a explosion of ideas, people and different art forms, almost like a explosion of creativity. We decided to start off by looking at descriptions and keys visuals of the Big Bang and how we can relate that to the course, we mood boarded how and why we felt like cci was a course with a explosion of ideas. In my particular case I felt like there was such a multifaceted nature to the cci course and when you are around the students and teachers, specifically when you’re being taught you feel like you’re being provided with almost a explosion of ideas. After much discussion we decided that’s what we wanted our common theme to be for the Instagram campaign animations. We wanted each video to be a explosion of sorts which either transforms the scene or creates new ideas and life.

Our story's included a Big Bang which then creates planets with each planet representing a new idea from the course, a scene in which there’s trash on floor and a cci bang falls out of the sky, when the bang hits the trash the trash then turns into gold. A scene in which there are bored children sitting in a classroom being taught by teacher, the teacher sees they’re visibly bored, goes into his pocket, and brings out a cci bang, he then throws the bang at them in which the children then transform and suddenly are dancing in the classroom enjoying the music. My fourth one was a dirty old coin, then a cci bang happens and then coin is turned into a silver coin which glistens and shines. In context the overall theme is one of transformation, we wanted it to be shown that cci is a course that transforms and changes it students for the better, that cci can bring the best and most creative streak out of the most dullest and non creative situations, and to summarise a course which is filled with new ideas, a creative juices which are ready to explode and change the world around its students. We ended up sketching out are storyboard and then forgetting to take pictures, the lesson we learnt from that is take pictures of EVERYTHING you do straight after you've finished, then email them to yourself! it provides you with a level of security and give you opportunity to display the process you used to get to the final outcome of your work.

After our storyboarding We wanted our video to focus on the idea of the big bang and space, so we created the below image on paint, it was a rough sketch but a outlier of where we wanted to go, I actually brought up using the show Ricky and Morty as colour scheme inspiration, I felt like the wacky colour of the Ricky and Morty show was interesting and perfect for our video.

The most difficult thing we found with doing this project was the actual creation of the ideas, actually coming up with the ideas was such a beautiful and enjoyable process, Xavier made it incredibly enjoyable for us and me and my partners enjoyed mood boarding and coming up with ideas. We would spend hours just talking about the ideas, discussing what we think could be the best outcome and what we could do to make it better. The starting and preliminary process was so creatively satisfiying. Unfortunately when it came to the actual process of creating those ideas that’s when we hit a break wall. In my experience learning how to use photoshop is such a weird experience and difficult to say the least but after going on YouTube and watching a few tutorials me and Preticha started to get the hang of it.

Below is the image taken during the creation of the explosion me and preticha wanted for our animation, me and prethcia worked tirelessly in the library trying to use photoshop, we ended up taking turns because the process was so pedantic, me and Preticha added about 10 layers to create the animation, however I also phased the background into the explosion and the background image was completely separate to the overlaying explosion, at the first the explosion wouldn't combined but after using the magic wand and the help of youtube I ended yo figuring it out. Preticha then added the final layers and we managed to get it moving.

When it came to the day of the deadline the school computer wiped off our remaining animations meaning we didn't have the time to create a whole twenty second video for our deadline. Preticha and Pricilla wanted to changed our idea and then came up with a idea of character watching tv on a screen and then a pop of colours appear. Priclla created some still images on adobe illustrator then we worked together to create the final video using adobe and illustrator me and Pricilla sent drafts back and fourth to each other.
