I think people overestimate how feminist team black is. If someone brings up how Baela should be the heir to Driftmark, it's always "she would've been Queen if not for the Greens!", ignoring that 1, she would be Queen consort, not a Queen in her own right, and 2 she has a legitimate claim in her own right to Driftmark. Team Black's goal is to crown Rhaenyra, but Rhaenyra becoming Queen isn't a win for feminism because it does nothing to dismantle the rest of the patriarchal system that exists in Westeros. From what we've gotten so far, it reads that Rhaenyra wants to be the exception and not the rule. Rhaenyra has made a lot of bad political decisions, which means she can't acknowledge Baela's claim because it would weaken her own claim (blatantly admitting her eldest sons are illegitimate would not end well for her to say the least). So she betrothes Jace and Luke to Baela and Rhaena to kind of atone for that, like as a consolation prize Baela will be Queen and Rhaena will be lady of Driftmark, neither of them would hold either title in their own right. It's good matches because the kids like each other and will treat each other well, but it's not a feminist win or a feministic liberation. It's usurpation, usurpation that takes place because Rhaenyra has to do damage control after having illegitimate children and after a serious of bad political decisions (both hers and her fathers, Viserys is the arbiter of this entire mess). To me, Rhaenyra is very reminiscent of Mary Queen of Scots, I can see a lot of elements drawn from Mary's history in Rhaenyra's story and character, down to their sons eventually taking the crown they failed to claim/keep.

i know i know typical shounen issue but man. misa amane deserved better

#i dont think her role in the story is terrible i think shes a great curveball character #and to show how fucked up light is. i dont totally mind her being a complete stan and dedicating herself to him cause yknow #light wants to be a god and someone like misa is going to exist and worship him above all else and die when he does #i think that makes sense. but man the way shes written sometimes is just. hrm #like why doesnt she react when rem dies. why doesnt she acknowledge rems feelings for her at all #ik she values light above all else but like. i feel like she should care about her shinigami somewhat since she told her the truth #and gave her access to light in the first place #or even show like. how lights abuse affects her overtime and maybe she becomes more and more of a shell #also the torture scene like come ON ik shes got the shinigami eyes and they needed to blindfold her and stuff #but light/kira- who everyone admits is more dangerous- just gets put in solitary confinement #like it still sucks but misa is bound and blindfolded and allowed to believe shes being tormented by a stalker #even tho it makes more sense to just reiterate that shes in confinement over the kira case #and even despite that shes not allowed to feel rattled over the experience at all like light is #echoed voice #they just keep acting like shes an airhead

Thoughts on Severus?

this question made me stare at the computer, contemplating every thought i've ever had. but, i shall answer. because there are Thoughts.

I do not like him. I'm not a snape fan at all, I really don't like him as an adult, and I think his relationship towards lily is extremely messed up.

however, as a child, and as a teenager; I do find his storyline, dynamic with other characters, and such very interesting.

him and lily becoming best friends as kids, living in a small town in scotland with not many other kids around, and being the only two people with magic at all. severus teaches her a lot about the wizarding world, and they depend on each other a lot, lily with understanding her magic and severus with having someone kind/a shoulder to lean on. but as they start hogwarts, lily makes friends with other people, and doesn't really need him to explain and teach her about the wizarding world anymore since she's not a part of it. but severus still needs someone to rely on, he doesn't make any other friends, tolerating his roommates and slowly finding himself listening to what they have to say as he grows up, as lily finds herself more independently and has more and more of a life seperate to him. which, of course, leads to him calling her a 'mudblood' and lily no longer wanting to be his friend. which, he blames the marauders for, instead of owning up to his own mistakes, and that hatred and blame just deepens as time goes on with lily no longer in his life at all. and he never really moves on from her, because she was the only real friend he ever made, and he fucked it up, and lives the rest of life in misplaced blame and subconsciously feeling deep guilt.

#i also think he blamed lily (and james) a lot for simply lily not liking him back in a romantic way. she only really liked him platonically #and he never really accepted that. preferring to believe that james stole lily from him (when that wasn't really the case at all)#marauders #marauders era #not sure whether to tag this as anti snape or just his name since its not really anti but i dont want snape stans getting pissed off with m #i'm just not gonna bother with any #anon ask

There is an argument thats going around which says that Sakura has never had an effect on Sasuke and that she could be easily replaced with any other kunoichi with no consequences on the story or Sasuke's character and that thats why SS doesn't work as a pairing. What do you think about this?

well, my take is that you can't really criticize sasusaku or sakura without (and i actually think people are going a tad bit overboard with this these days) pointing a finger at kishimoto's writing.

yes -- sakura technically could be replaced with any other girl, and you could argue with reasonable certainty that results won't be all that different. but this has nothing to do with sakura's character, and everything to do with her role (or lack thereof) in the overall theme of the story.

truth is, sakura isn't at all important to the narrative. remove sakura, and things change minimally, if at all. i think the sasori fight + saving sasuke from the sand dimension were the only two times where i can remember sakura directly influenced the course of the story, which is pretty sad considering this is your heroine and one of the lead characters. she definitely leaves a lot to be desired in terms of how she affects the plot, and i have no doubt kishimoto's world would have been all the more richer if he took the time to carve out more space for sakura in it.

we can clown BAMF!sakura fics all we want, but most of them are onto something when they provide commentary on her civilian status, or when they flesh out her bond with her parents/ino/kakashi/any character, because you can't have a manga about bonds, loneliness, war, family, duty, hard work, clan vs village, etc. and not let one of your main characters carry at least some of the themes -- you're gonna end up with a weird void in your story, because what is the current point of sakura's existence as a character, aside from being sarada's mother?

to say that ss makes no sense because sakura had no effect on sasuke -- like, yeah no shit lol. she barely had an effect on anything, i don't see how sasuke should be an exception. the argument would hold more weight if sakura actually had been an incremental part of the narrative, or if she was a catalyst to some other character's growth; it would serve to prove that, although she is a fleshed out character in her own right, sasuke remains unmoved by her and, well, tough luck. the problem is sakura hasn't been given a chance, because she has never had any bearing on anything. i'm not even sure she had an arc

that being said, i think that sasuke was affected by her -- and she was most definitely affected by him (i won't get into this, because i think it's obvious to most that sasuke was the catalyst to her development).

for sasuke, she may not have been this character defining, life-changing influence, like itachi was, or naruto, but as @blue-plums beautifully put it once upon a time, she couldn't stop him, but she was a speedbump. otherwise, why would sasuke, a boy who's been too fucked over in his life to really care about niceties or social conventions or who deserves what -- thank her? why would he bother to express his gratitude, on the night he chose to abandon his home (and sakura) forever, if he didn't feel that gratitude was well deserved?

anyway i just think it's hilarious he will instantly be like heart eyes for the morticias, the bayonettas, the carmillas, the dimitrescus, etc like 9/10 times. give him the masc counterparts and he's still likely to be drawn to them but with more hesitance and more tension tbh (listen he's a sneaky, conniving little masc and so he sees other sneaky scheming mascs and he is suspicious and slightly threatened ok)

but then with mascs, his main archetype he's drawn to is just...trash. like just trash can mascs. reckless, messy, feral, dangerous, a lil emotionally stupid. never tries to fix them but def' i think is drawn to them because he can take care of them, clean up their messes, etc. they're like little constant projects to keep him occupied jfkdbgdf. plus obvs the opposite aesthetics def make for an interesting foil.

oh, no problem friend! so basically, last year, during my last semester at school -- which is when i started peppermint, actually! -- i got my teaching credential for elementary school ( k-5 ) which was so exciting!!! but oh my god, i was EXHAUSTED ( which is why i fell in that Summer Schlump tbh [ it was my Stan Season ] because i'd never had that much free time before which was too much tbh ).

but anyways! for context, to get my credential, i had to work in both a lower elementary & an upper elementary class! more info under here!

so my first semester i worked in a 1st/2nd grade class which -- i loved them so much when i left i cried ( the kid that told me he hated me my first day and threw a STAPLER at me was actually in that class and he was the one child that had to be forcibly removed from me on my last day because he wouldn't let me go bc he didn't want me to leave....WHEN I TELL YOU I WAS CRYING LIKE LITTLE MAN DON'T DO THIS TO ME!!!! <//3 ;-; ) but yes, i literally adored them, they were so stinking cute -- i can't talk abt them too much or i'll Cry.

my second semester i was in a MASSIVE -- when i say massive i mean massive, we could barely move in that room -- fifth grade class and i also loved them sm -- they did dunk on me all the time smh -- and when i revisited them later, they were SO EXCITED, oh my god they gave me Hell during my semester, but they were Angels when i came to visit like!!! everyone hugged and high-fived me...love them, they were so funny...i miss them every day ;-;;;;;; AAAAA IM CRYING

but for This Job, i'm actually not working in one Specific classroom, i kind of float around and work with a lot of different ages/grade levels! which has been...Interesting for me, lmao! it's an adjustment for sure.

my favorite time is hanging out with the tiny little people ( if i could choose a grade level to teach it would probably be k-2 ) i read them lots of books and sing them a lot of stuff!!! were learning our letters :) i also dress kind of like Teacher Harper Finkle and they gas me up so much -- i came out of a classroom the other day to a bunch of first graders AND THEY ALL CLAPPED I DID A SPIN AND THEY WERE LIKE YOU LOOK LIKE A FAIRY PRINCESS WOW WOW WOW!!!!

i screamed they were SAUR CUTE!!!! heaven!!! all of them! angels! -- they really like all my apron dresses and my fuzzy ear muffs and my crazy eye makeup and stuff i love them so bad -- SOMETIME STHEY ROAST ME THO!! they don't mean to -- one day last year, i was hella late and tired and i had a Manic Uncle Nina Moment and bleached my hair but was too lazy to tone/dye it a color ( my hair was a lot of different colors! it was actually blue last year bc as a treat to my fifth graders, i let them choose a color for my hair! thank god it wasn't puke green IT GOT REALLY CLOSE I WAS CRYING PLSSS HELP )

and she was like Miss, Did You Do Your Hair! & i was yes, i did friend and she was like Can You Do Something Else It Looks Weird like KHDSLDKH STOP THE VIOLENCE!!! PLEASE!!!! BRUTAL OMG ;-; but at least she was REAL! W/ ME! i like the tiny ppl -- theyre honest.

which is why i'm kind of having trouble w the older kids bc its not in my wheelhouse to teach older kids so i'm a little...Stressed, smh. it's bc i can't really tell if they like me/are secretly roasting me -- also the high school boys were giving me The Business abt their phones smh i was like THIS IS MY JOB BESTIES DONT BE LIKE THIS PLS -- anyways they kind of scare me, smh, but i'm sure we will be close in abt a month...i am pretty chill or i try to be! <3

my specialization for school/my teaching philosphy focuses on SEL or social emotional learning! which is concerned with mental health, making sure kids feel safe, loved, validated...i'm v Passionate abt it.

i'm actually so passionate about it that i was thinking of going Back To School ( whichhhhh sahdkad UUUUUGH ) to get my license to be a guidance counsellor!!! post covid kyle and i are like the same person i swear. idk teaching math is hard and i really just enjoy hearin about kids days and helping them with stuff that's not subject related, idk.

i'll keep you guys updated! i actually have a lot of down time in my position so i am in the staff lounge answering these! which is fine tbh the adults are chilling but if the older kids who can READ accidentally glimpse my sp fanfic i will cry i would be so embarassed i'd never hear the end of it smh IF ANYONE IS READING OVER MY SHOULDER PLEASE GO TO JAIL MY FRIEND!!!! SMH!!!! SHOOOO!

but yes! teacher uncle nina! <3 i actually took this job bc i was... Nervous about starting teaching in my own classroom, so i'm gathering up the nerve by doing this instead! but hopefully one day i will have my own classroom or go back to school so i can be a cool post covid kyle guidance counselor! thank you for asking! <333
