(i dont want to call them out directly in case the person doesnt want that, but i got a comment about how demise seems like someone who acts like they dont like physical contact but secretly loves it and i went to bed with a huge grin after reading it -multiple times- bc it made me so happy and everytime i think about i have to smile bc YES !!! thats what im going for and im always afraid of making people think that demise and hylias realtionship is kinda weird bc he always seems like hes rejecting her kinda obvious flirting (tho thats a whole other thing bc at first shes literally just trying to provoke him and it laters turns into genuine attraction but shes acting about it just the same bc she doesnt think hes interested- its a whole plot point theres more to it ok) and NO hes trying to keep that defensive villain persona intact but hes very soft hearted at the core but also can never completely stop trying to keep it up due to reasons (theres alot of reasons its also a whole plot point ok) and when i post doodles of when they are already together they know each other well enough that even tho hes still not able to let that tough persona go completely, they both know what the other means (and like, if he actually doesnt like sth he would make that clear, same goes for her) its all gonne become more clear as the story goes on and i just hope i can get it all done bc its the biggest project i have worked on so far while being convinced to give it my all -without destroying myself- however long it may take, and i hope that some people will stick around bc i care alot about it and comments like these often get me teary eyed bc im like YES YOU GET IT oh god i hope others get it too WOOOOO ah fuck im crying-)

2. may i suggest you guys google "stjepan šejić wonder woman" because that's how you design a believable non-stereotypically feminine woman who can kick ass and demand respect while also not conforming to over-sexualization. LO athena could have been like that but nah, just give hades some eyelashes and call it a day.

On the twitter screenshot of her saying “ dear update too short people” and it shows that the rescue team (whatever that is) worked 55 hours in a week, isn’t that like 7 hours a day if they worked an entire week, or 11 hours if they worked for 5 days in a week?? Honestly i don’t know much about how the process goes when designing comics and things like this, but isn’t the editor and rescue team supposed to be fixing mistakes and making finishes touches? Bc unless the software is really slow there’s no reason for them to spend 11 hours a day drawing? Or unless RS doesn’t even make proper sketches and/or drawings? And just gives them really poor doodles of what she expects? And her team have to draw everything? Bc there’s really no reason for a team of 5+ people to spend 11 hours a day for such a poor quality comic unless they’re drawing and doing everything themselves

ANYWAY idk if you guys have read the iliad or not so i will just sum up the different images Homer described

it's a lot. especially when i remember that this is sth i plan on animating somehow adhskfl im being really ambitious. anyway herein lies the problem. i dont,, actually know how to organize this?

my initial thought was to draw each image separately, then have them transition from one to the next in a loop on the shield. which i think is definitely an option but like... hmmm... idk how to explain my specific vision and sketches would not really help here....

i'm picturing like,,, having each image on a separate layer. but the images are only visible in fragments that kinda merge into each other? idk if that makes any sense maybe i will actually have to make some sketches :(((

the other option i have in mind is doing sth similar to the image below, which i found here (which has actually been turned into a mini sculpted version that u can see on that link too! its wild i am amazed by the amount of detail in both versions!). where each image gets its own section of the shield. and then from there all i would need to do is animate each section individually so they'd each have their own lil loop of "life happening"

i am torn about that tho bc i dont wanna just,, rely on sth someone else has already came up with? and it just feels a bit too busy. there is so much going on (not that my idea is any less busy ssdkjfkdhk its just in a different way i guess)

also i have to keep in mind that i should do more research on what shields looked like at the time askldffgdk i dont wanna stray too far from that once i start drawing

anyway part of the reason i'm trying so hard to explain my thought process here is bc i would actually love some input! i know @born-potty has already offered but if any of you have some thoughts pls let me know! i might try to sketch out the first option i was thinking of somehow if it's not super clear bc ugh ive been thinking about this on and off for the past few days and im still Very stuck.

gonna go to bed soonish (or at least check out from thinking about this for the night) and try some doodles tomorrow. maybe i will just draw some very rough key frames and gif that to see if it helps

Could these be adhd symptoms?

- I can’t really focus on conversations because often i hear a word that reminds me of sth and then i drift of. I still listen to the other person and like notice when they are finishing a sentence but imma just be like mhm yea, still can’t really focus on them and honestly don’t even notice i was drifting off.

- I really had nights when i randomly started cleaning my room at 1am .. or like dying my hair blue in the middle of the night.. just cause , you know why not?

- Also it always really frustrates me to.. pay attention in school for a long time and sometimes i just leave the classroom and walk around the school and look at everything even though i see it everyday in the middle of the lesson

- Sometimes i get a crippling desire to .. move but no matter what i do it doesn’t get better and leads to anger pretty often

- I can’t read sometimes. Like i really just can’t. Even when i try. Its impossible to focus

- I get bored of a show after at maximum 1,5 seasons, no matter how much i love it

- If it doesn’t impress me the first 5 minutes i wont watch it at all btw

- I barely only focus on the show i always do sth besides watching it (on my phone or doodling etc.)

- Ok im not proud of this one but i know that pep(speed) calms me down, instead of making me hyper like most people. I can sleep like a baby when i take that shit (i dont, but i tried it out several times)

- But caffeine can make me rather hyper so idk.

- I focus on everything that happens around me, randomly being like „that tree is beautiful“ in the middle of a convo or sth like that

- Can be kinda stressful when im driving cause i sometimes really wanna look around but gotta focus obviously

- Making random noises and copying noises for no reason? Idk?

- Feeling energetic but also very tired

- Talking very fast and laughing a lot and not being able to stop

- (Identifying with a fictional character so much that ill be acting like them for some time ? And really focusing on that)

Honestly i never even considered having adhd and i am bot diagnosed or sth, but I’ve been reading experiences from people with adhd and like, researching it all and there are several things i noticed i do a lot/ happening to me. But i never really suffered because of it, ok maybe a little because school bores me and makes me really frustrated and i had a pretty tough time when i was like 10-15 y/o ( i was a bad state, really) and still sometimes (im only 17 xd)

Of course i don’t wanna diagnose myself or sth, I’d just like to hear your opinion about it? And maybe you could help me out, I’d reaaaally appreciate that!

Cause honestly i really feel like i could.. just be getting into it too much and imagining things. I always considered my behavior pretty normal... like kinda weird but not that much.

I do have a more artistic question. Do you use references when you draw? Also what would you suggest to someone struggling with anatomy. *points at self* I just love how fluid your art is. And your comics easily became some of my favorite for the Fire Emblem fandom.

yes i do most of the time and sometimes i absolutely need to, using references is very important to make your characters’ proportions and poses/movement feel more natural (even if it’s a pose you’re used to drawing), it will definitely help you with anatomy. I always use them with zine pieces, commissions, the only time i dont is with quick doodles or comics where the dialogue is more important than what’s going on, take this recent comic for example, they’re standing upright in all panels, i didnt rly need to use refs until the end when i wanted to draw two people on a horse 

I looked up this pic, it’s not exactly what i wanted but it’s the right angle and helped me understand how the knees bend and body curves in this position. you can trace when you need to as long as it’s a stock photo or sth and not someone else’s drawing. or draw a quick figure over your ref just to break down the movement/pose. I’m giving you suggestions because there is no one way to practice, some people learn by tracing, others prefer breaking things down to shapes, try different methods to see which one you enjoy the most, and ofcourse, have fun! :D

(THIS IS SO FCKIN LONG IM SORRY JUST SKIP IT IF UR MEANT TO BE DOING SOMETHING IMPORTANT)sorry i left this so long, but i had to think it over. i talked to some people about it and did a lil research and originally my answer was going to be not really - but right now its looking like i might be.for example, i was in a relatively long car ride this morning (we go this way a lot (too often) so im used to it. i popped in my earphones and fell headfirst into a a full fledged plotline with character development. i thought it happened to everyone. apparently not.i thought it was normal to be so absorbed in a daydream that sometimes ur head moves at the same time as the character in ur head. i was also thinking back and realised that as a kid i was so scared id accidentally make a noise or hum the song that related to it, i taught my tongue to lie against the roof of my mouth.and im pretty sure that all falls under maladaptive daydreaming? i could be wrong but thats what we were bonding overas for the au - its currently about two boys who grew up in this small town in the middle of nowhere. theyre were part of a tough looking friend group that did all the rebellious teenage shit u see in the movies. these bois were hella in love and spent half the time roughhousing each other and the other half cuddling and being cute. boy a has this dream of being a musician/singer and shows boy b all the songs. hes more level headed and is trying to study real hard so he can get out of the small town. while boy b is like 'im not booksmart im stuck here forever' and but doodles all these nice sketches in his spare time.so boy a gets this chance to leave and become the guitarist for some up-in-coming pop band and its not really his sound but he gets to leave! but heres the problem, boy b doesnt get to leave. hes v happy for boy a but is scared that boy a w be an idiot and say no when he realises hes leaving boy behind.boy a almost decides to call it off, but boy b is like doNT U DARE. so they have one last week together before boy a has to go and on the last day boy b says 'tomorrow we're friends but tonight we get to stay lovers'. boy a's band gets super duper famous and boy a is marketed as a straight™. he keeps writing songs about boy b but never brings them to the band.years later he decides 'fuck it' and decides he wants to make a whole album dropping the truth on all the fangirls. he records all the songs with the right pronouns, with the right sounds and texts boy b for the first time in years saying he wants him to be in the final music video (my boi is v dramatic so all the songs have videos).boy b is like lmao the studio will not let that happen ur ganna lose ur job but whatever sure.boy a refuses to give anyone any info on the album, showing it to three close friends who very vaguely reference one song being more important than the others.boy b is like i cant believe ur fucking doing this ur an idiot but i miss u. so they film the first time the two see each other and the hug for the music video. they do all these scenes showing the dynamic of the relationship and that shit. theres like half an hour of outtakes of boy b being a little shit thats too funny to trash so when it all ends and everyone is freaking out because "WHO THE FUCK IS HE KISSING U CANT JUST END IT THERE" they post the thirty minutes of banter. when all is over boy a is like 'u single still?' and bou b is like 'yeah u?' and they decide 'fuck the system' and become a power couple and boy b finally gets some recognition on his drawings.lmao sorry its so long but if u bothered reading it good on u. probably wasnt worth it but thanks anyway.

God, when you want to make a character, YOU DO IT. Can you talk a little about your process? Where you got the idea for Mother of Pearl, your jasper ame fusion, etc? Whenever you make them, you go by theme and intense detail. Ily and your art so much

thank you so much!! im gonna describe my design/headcanon process under cut because its kinda a wall of text with some pics of older versions of maxima as an example. hope this inspires and helps you!

HOO ok so like. when it comes to coming up with su ideas its like.... su is kinda my Special Interest and im so hyper-fixated on it i think about it very often, i analyze it in my head daily and i think up theories. inspiration can be everywhere, its hard to explain because often ideas just pop into my head... but the general process can be broken down to this:

1. idea. with the mothers it all started when i was wondering why the gems seem to have a disdain for organic life and why pearls are so low in the hierarchy. pearls are partially organic and this sparked an idea: a sister race to gems who instead of gems has mollusk shells. they were oppressors to the gems on homeworld long ago, but eventually with birth of the first diamond the tides turned and they ended up conquered and enslaved themselves. in this part i tend to doodle elements of characters when i have an idea for sth specific already. in case of maxima her crazy hair was one of the first things i thought of and i loved it so much it stuck to the final design.

2. research. the part many can consider boring but is extremely vital. googling and reading on related subjects. in this case i looked at pearl production, read on pearls, then read on species and categories of molluscs that make pearls, etc. this part especially helps with choosing themes and the general shape of the designs. personally this part gives me the greatest amount of inspiration and where i get basic but solid ideas that tend to carry the rest of the design. i also tend to doodle things here, its like writing down ideas for design elements.

3. first draft. i finally sit down and do the first drawing of a character that will serve as a base for the next step. this part is NEVER a final design. you will never get it right the first time, and if you do you only think you did. there’s always, always room for improvement. in this part a lot of new ideas come as you work, either as happy accidents or a sudden flash of inspiration. both feel amazing but can only happen once you start working and finish this first version!

4. the never-ending polish hell. ok so i got my first draft, awesome! but i can tell this can be better. many things are off and im not happy enough with it! so i make another attempt, i look for different solutions. is the silhouette strong? is the design clear and easy enough to draw n animate? are the elements and colors in visual harmony, do they feel balanced and fit the character? if no, i work and change and think until it finally feels right. what’s also extremely important and helpful is FEEDBACK!! SHOW YOUR THINGS TO YOUR ART FRIENDS!! ASK FOR OPINIONS!! send it to anyone you think can reply with a helpful critical opinion! dont be afraid of doing this. even if you wont manage to get feedback from one person there’s always a chance another one replies and will give you a game changing opinion or will inspire you! also, especially when it comes to palettes, try different shit! if you get suggestions for color changes, try them! you dont have to keep them but its worth to see if they work! my friends give me a lot of inspiration and help me improve the designs, sometimes also opening the path to further improvements! its really vital to get someone else’s perspective on your stuff while working. this applies to all forms of art, honestly.

oh, and something important: this will take time. you sometimes have to leave a design and come back to it later, preferably after working on something else, to look at it with a fresh eye. that was the case for me with many designs, but especially the mothers. i did the first version of the gold mom at the beginning of september 2016. it took me 8 months to get her where she is now. jeez.

so, let me show you how maxima looked like before.

^ this is her first version. it has so many issues. the transparent cloth generally shouldnt overlap for one. but its also too bland and the design elements dont click together well (that collar is attached in a very bullshit way lol) and it just doesnt look interesting in general (aside from the hair. i love the hair.)

^ and heres version two i drew quite some time later. its also not too good. it doesnt feel visually balanced, the top is too heavy. and she still doesnt feel like shes golden but rather yellow. also the pattern on her dress would be hard to animate. one thing thats also interesting that her personality evolved a lot. initially she was supposed to be a cold stone bitch, lmao. but i thought with how positive su is its a better idea to make her warm inside and keep a facade created out of pressure.

^ and heres version 3 which already is reminiscent of her final look. i was happy with the visual balance and the outfits elements felt mostly right. i ended up polishing this version. i made plenty of palettes for it and simplified some things, also made changes to some shapes (the shell and wavy fabric)

you know whats another really important step? 5. amaet for fucks sake stop polishing this and post it already this can literally go on forever

i still would make changes to her. i hate this feeling when i post it and i immidiately get ideas on how to improve or change it. in this case id try removing her collar thing to make her wondrous hair shape more visible. arghhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh
