good morning pokemon community umm. gymsona w other gym leaders i think match their vibe ^_^ do nottt ask me what gen any of these ppl are from dude i play pokemon pearl and cant even tell u who the gym leaders are in that. i opned the pokemon wiki and scrolled

ermm okie side note my only pkmn knowledge is like. pearl. so my bad :3 but the way i made the gym it kinda pushes how gyms traditionally work ... its more like a game show [because i always loved doing the little interviews thru pearl and the contests n stuff] where theres 8 contestants and they just bracket their way down to the final battle against the gym leader/host who is. me technically. but jamie crown is their name ^_^
one fun thing i thought of was because its a live show u wouldnt rlly be able to .. leave and go to the pokecenter and heal or buy items.. so ud have an option to heal between rounds at ur little podium :3 all with pokecenter certified tech or whatev of course !!
because its not gym members i realize it doesnt rlly lend itself towards being a typical gym since it would be ppl from all over coming to compete thinking emoji.. but it kinda works as a like. elite four minigame LOL idk :3 i didnt think ab it too hard
and then in terms of the team i chose

and then real nerd alert ☝️ the outfit i just redesigned i think comes together sooo well im so happy w it. the collar being mirrored on the top of the boots, the vaguely sci-fi aesthetic taht i love w the wavy patterning kinda veering towards like 80s and that retro-futuristic look that i love.. the capelet kinda looking jester-y [i looove a good jester aesthetic] plus theyre very 80s. gameshow host personality LOL.. the star tie is super cute i think and the little luxray star shapes around and even in the eyes <333 idfk im just so happy w it its so cute and awesomeee
also the visual of jamie tellinf starmie to use surf in a densely packed room with a high concentration of electrical components on live television is sending me into a FIT because they ARE bimbo enough to do that
and also the design alt and the old outfit :3 the last one is just an outfit i found looking at rhythmic gymnastic leotards n went OH THATS SO JAMIE hehe.. the old design is so dear to me and i still rlly like it but i love this new one a lot ^_^ idk i think their design will change a lot regardless because being a game show host i think they would have lots of diff outfits as opposed to a uniform but.. pokemon logic u wear the same outfit for the rest of ur life

I've got a question about your art (that I love so much it's killing me !!!), anyway. So, when you're coming up with your ppg/rrb, did you first come up with your concept before searching for inspiration or did you first looked for inspiration before coming up with your concept. By concept I mean, the way your wanted to draw them and by inspiration, I'm talking about... what inspired you (you even posted pics about it, like butch's haircut is 50's etc).
Jumpscare ahead but it was jus the natural progression of things and then I was staring at all of them and then I started to come up with a concept I could stick which is what the reference sheet it for!
I think this is the first time I drew him ever and I basically like took what the show had! It looks very UH BAD and I drew it like 2 times and I wa slike this looks dumb LMAO

And then this time lasted for a whilE there are maybe like oof 10 drawings with his hair like this emo situation I think because I wanted him to match buttercup?? Because I was kinda drawing her hair a little like that but tbh it was a default hair at the time because it’s an emo hair cut easy to draw

SWIFTLY AFTER THIS I DIDNT DRAW THE GUY very often because I was stuck like something wasn’t sitting right with the design for me so my style changed quite a bit because I was drawing other stuff and my art got like really “messy” and sketchy so I was able to draw looser lines and I did a yearly beach greens at the time and I pushed his hair back and long hair isn’t functional for a guy like him so I gave him an undercut! When I first drew this I stared at this picture for a long time because I liked it so much

The concept of them going to the beach besides the anime beach episode that happens in TEF it also reminded me of like the 50s of a bunch of kids spring break-ing and just like having a good time idk how to describe but that stuck with me for a while and of course the beach chapter is like one of my favorites for this reason!

But then I started messing around with the concept at this point and butches hair turned into a pompadour with like a fade situation it’s a good shape it doesn’t get in his face for when he’s fighting but it does get messy and hairs come out in the front.

I combined aspects of the original design to make not too round because he’s a sharp guy so I added spikes in the back some hairs that simple don’t stay down I ran into some issues later on because I can’t do a pompadour shape from the front so I tweaked some stuff after the reference sheet even further but I enjoy drawing him the side because I think that’s where he looks cutest lol
Fake apologies for rambling butchs hair is my favorite part of my designs other than those mole 🥲💚

every day i wonder what happened during the design process of equestria girls for them to all come out the way they did. i can see where the skirts thing came from cause they wanted them to be undeniably girly i guess or whatever but. every other weird decision is just confusing
like fluttershys whole outfit, the shortish skirt but especially the tank top. maybe its meant to indicate that shes outdoors a lot with animals, but it completely betrays her shyness and tendency to try and hide herself
they kinda messed up big mac and shining armor? mostly shining armor. his jaw could slice metal. why he look like that
also i only realized while looking at the characters that. okay i was just going to say 'lol cheerilees hair is stupid its like 1 foot taller than her head, why didnt they just give her normal bangs wtf' and i still mean that but then i realized... they swapped her mane and fur colors for her human counterpart ??? so now her usually darker coat and light hair became dark hair and light skin ??
which leads me to the point about the skin colors being weird. like. i dont like how they lightened them up, i dont like how aj and big mac have human skin colors (i have to assume maybe they thought for them that the colors looked bad, or possibly even close to caricature territory, especially with big mac), and the way they outright lightened up the colors of at least 2 normally darker ponies? like i said, cheerilee, but also
luna. even back when i first saw the movie and adored it, i DID NOT like the princesses designs. how did they fuck up some of the best characters in the show, especially the ones that are the prettiest (imo).
i would say that of the 3, cadence is the most okay design (i know we dont see her in the first movie just roll with me here). its clearly her, she looks like her and has her vibe (visually), all around not bad. not necessarily my favorite, theres still something slightly off? but it doesnt rub me the wrong way
celestia... i dont like her vibe. who is she. shes light pink and she has hair spikeys that are meant to look like a crown but just made it look like she didnt brush her hair properly. she has celestias hair but her face does not read like celestia to me. she looks like an imposter. where is my mother
and finally. the pinnacle of the issues with the designs. luna.

WHO IS SHE. THAT OUTFIT? NOT LUNA. THAT HAIR? YOU WOULDVE BEEN BETTER OFF JUST DOING A GRADIENT. OR PUTTING IN LITTLE STAR HAIR CLIPS. THAT FACE? THATS SOMEONES WINE MOM WHO SINGS EXTRA LOUD AT CHURCH. same critique about the hair spikeys as before. AND THE SKIN??? HELLO??? THE PRINCESS OF THE NIGHT GOT TURNED INTO PRINCESS OF MIDDAY. WHY.
the design of the show vs the movies is, i guess now literally, night and day. pony luna is so inspired and pretty and meant to invoke such regality, its very clear what her theme is, and she very much sticks out amongst the others, both in shape and details!
but the human version feels generic, she could easily be a background character (and she basically was), she feels unfinished, the colors on their own arent the worst but moreso feel insulting when compared to the original (i like the addition of pink/pinkish purple to the palette, but not so much to luna as a character. it just isnt her imo), she doesnt even look like an authority figure aside from obviously looking older than the other characters, let alone being someone meant to be somewhat equivalent to royalty. also again she was a minor character here but its like... her pony version has such a stone strong personality, both when shes freshly back from the moon and later on when shes more grounded and princess-like. human luna is just... generic teacher person. did human luna even ever experience significant isolation and feeling completely unseen by everyone she cared about? doubt it.
and yeah, they significantly lightened her skin ?? why ?? theres literally no reason to do that? she wouldnt look like a caricature unless you somehow chose the wrong colors (how possibly would you), and its not exactly impossible to draw characters with darker skin, again her pony form literally has a dark coat !! but also plenty of people have redesigned her human form to have the right skin color and they look great!! and in general obviously theres plenty of characters with dark skin, like... what was the reason they did that. it just feels gross.
dont cross me when it comes to luna dude i love her so much
anyway yeah its been over 10 years since EG first aired and i loved it back then and i still love it but i think a lot more about character designs now. mlp g4 is known for having these really pleasant and well put together designs with lovely colors (for the most part), its so weird how that gets easily messed up, like in g5, but also still in g4 itself(in the spinoffs and the main show lol)? wish i had the motivation to redesign them all lol, i probably will someday. please go look at redesigns theyre very lovely

so something that was bothering me the entire season was raylas redesign. because while i do LOVE it, there was just something different and i couldnt figure out what it was until i got some side by sides and realized what they changed

so something they changed here that actually changed the way Rayla looks is her eyelashes. in her old design theyre thick and sweep out past her eyes. this makes her eyes look longer and add to her expressiveness. in the time skip her eyelashes are much smaller, making her eyes look more round.
again very subtle differences, but in animation every line makes a difference especially to characters faces so it annoys me theyd change this specific Rayla design. i think it changes her face a lot, especially when she emotes.
my other complaint is far smaller but it still bothered me. while i LOVE the face framing bangs, in most shots the bangs usually get in the way of her face markings, her elf ears or both. which i bad because BOTH of those things are huge character defining designs of her face. theres a lot of shots where you cant even see her ears or face markings at all because of her hair.

and all these shots were just from the first scene she showed up in, and this was consistent throughout the season.
last complaint is the most minor, but it still i noticed it and its relevant,

the GIANT tuff of hair the sticks right up in the middle of her hair. now i actually like this design in general. love me some hair tuffs and anime hair in general. HOWEVER this someone clashes with Rayla design because of her horns. her horns are lower down, on the sides of her head, and a far more muted color. whereas the hair antenna is a stark white and framed right in the middle of her head, making it far more noticeble than her horns.
so between her eyes literally being a different shape/style, her hair blocking her elf face markings, hiding her elf ears, and her hair antenna distracting away from her horns. there were a lot of moments where rayla literally didnt look like herself this season. i love the character design overall, very cool look for a charater, but i think its a little too far removed from her original design compared to the other characters like Callum, Soren, Corvus who all have very subtle design changes. (Ezran doesnt really count because he had a huge growth spurt so hes allowed)

day 28 of martch - redraw old art
had this idea 4 years ago and now i have realized it lol. i put way too much thought into this so notes below
notes for designs i did while making this:

i wanted them all to have unique eye shapes instead of defaulting to how i draw eyes normally because animal crossing characters dont have uniform eyes lol
also i worried wayy too much about some of the species choices lol. like. do i make junko a bear because monokuma, or does that give the twist away? do i make everybody a different species, or do i double dip in a few places to make the twin twist less predictable? ultimately decided fuck it im not writing the game im drawing fanart i can do what i want
when i first came up with this idea i'd only fully decided on the species of 7 of the cast so here's my train of thought for why they are what they are:
yasuhiro- easiest out of the way first. there's nothing else he could be but a frog. decided to give him the weird facial hair animal crossing sometimes gives their characters because its not animal crossing without a couple ugly guys (affectionate)
hifumi- big guy. elephant. made sense. gave him some pink accents despite not thinking it worked all that well to get that animal crossing authenticity yknow lol. plus he likes some cutesy things so he can have some pink as a treat
sakura- felt bad about making her a gorilla ngl- especially since she is. one of the three characters in this game with a darker skin tone. but literally no other species made sense for her. and ngl there are like. no gorilla villagers i like. so i tried my best to make her look cool as hell
sayaka- cat villagers are super popular, so might as well make the ultimate pop idol one, right?
asahina- okay this comes from bias on my part but in my new horizons my default uchi villager was a rabbit and asahina would 100% be an uchi villager so bada bing bada boom. ended up making her coat more orange than it actually is cause i wanted her to be red and didnt want it to clash.
mondo- im going to be completely honest. when i thought of this i was just like "oh that makes sense i always associated mondo with tigers i dont remember why tho." and i just double checked and not only are they in his execution but he also has tiger underwear. so. this ones canon imo
ishimaru- once again, wolf villagers are popular, and just made sense for him. hes a loyal rules guy, and more edgy than a dog- plus, it gives him a cat and dog dynamic with mondo! this concludes everyone that i came up with their species 4 years ago, below is the ones i decided now
kyoko: i was between anteater and wolf for her, and since i decided not to double dip on species, i went with anteater. idk, anteater villagers always seem so aloof and strange to me, it's just her vibe.
junko & mukuro: i was between bear, cat, and rabbit for them, and once again, avoided double dipping. bear is pretty obvious, but cat was because once again, cat villagers are so popular, and rabbit was because of the irony. junko's ears are also supposed to mimic the little monokuma hair ties she has lol
celestia: i was between anteater and ostrich, and i'd already chosen kyoko as the anteater. i didn't even remember that the ostrich villager was called ostrich for a bit, i kept thinking of her as a peacock, but then realized that was perfect for her whole european thing lol.
toko: i was between cat and squirrel, and sayaka was cat. her just being such a small bitter little guy is fitting for her i think.
chihiro: i was between hamster, rabbit, and mouse, and rabbit was taken. i think i only went with mouse because i wanted to draw that head shape, but i did realize after that that means they and mondo are a cat and mouse lol
makoto: i was between deer and dog, and honestly it all came down to his ahoge. if there was a way to have antlers and an ahoge, i would have done so, but honestly it worked out for the best i think. having a dog and cat relationship with sayaka + komaru and toko being dog and squirrel just worked too well.
togami: i was between horse and eagle and this was one of the hardest decisions. ultimately went with eagle simply because i didnt want to draw an animal crossing horse. this did end up making the squirrel be obsessed with the eagle which i do love. i kept trying to work blue into his design but it just did not work at all.
leon: oh leon. the hardest one to choose. i had to save him for until id decided everyone else lol. i was between bull, eagle, and tiger, and went with bull bc of double dipping. all three suited him equally i think it was hard to choose. also coloring him was hard too lol

King and his mother?!
In Christ's College Chapel, Cambridge is 16th century stained glass window, a rare example which survived nearly intact. It is thought to be done in 1505. On left is Henry VII. And the woman on right is Margaret Beaufort. In the most unexpected outfit.

i just love the silvery part of his armour and also these portculises.
Green behind him probably has to do with tudor colours-green and white.
But it is the female figure on right which caught my attention. It is said to be lady Margaret Beaufort, who was very involved with Christ's College in 1505. Hence it is very logical to asume it is her.

However if you play with image a little bit to see the woman's outfit a bit better...you will realise woman is dressed extremely sumptuarily.

The cloak is held in place by white rope ended by tasle-standard design for female cloak of the time. But this vivid blue colour could be one of blues made using snails as dye...very expensive, on par with purple. The pillow beneath her feet is in same colour, cloth before hr crimson-also very expensive.
So what is the golden part? Her gown+wide sleeves of that gown.
Her headwear seems to be plain black, but otherwise it is pure sumptuousness...not at all what we would expect lady Margaret to wear.
Thus i questioned whetever or not it might be Elizabeth of York instead, however i doubt it because of the shape of coronet. It doesnt match Henry's crown and we have depictions of CoA in crown matching her husbands. Plus these wide sleeves are more consistent with 1510s, they wouldnt become part of English fashion until at least mid 1500s, after Elizabeth died. (As far as i know.)
But then Margaret and the college were in 1505, so it makes sense.
Yet I always imagined that her simple outfit we know from portraits had something to do with her swearung celibacy in 1499.
Can somebody please check records of her wardrobe? Because this is way after and she is depicted truly lavishly. But you know-she got her son on throne after years of struggles and worries. Which one of us wouldn't then want to enjoy her golden years?
You know we had similiar thing with Margaret of Austria. She had so many portraits of herself in simple outfit, looking like true mourning widow and didnt want to remarry after two dead husbands. So people mistakenly think that is all she wore all the time, even though it was not so.
Unfortunately the image is also bit dirty and scratched or worn of in places. I imagine that originally it looked more like this:

I know that at the very top we have lines consisting with white chemise, then black line which could be black kirtle, then line of large pearls(maybe ment to sit on edge of black kirtle) then golden line is probably edge of golden gown...but right under it imo is edge of ermine surcoat.

Which obviously would not be showing over lower parts of golden gown.But normally there is no band running across in middle of the chest-imo that is damage.
Then obviously her blue cloak is held in place by pieces of white rope(typical of the time)-ending in tassel.
That is how i interpret it and this is the best version i could come up with:

One more thing. I do not know which one of these is correct:

With or without u-band.
U-band on forehead occurs in gable hoods of 15th century. After 1505, the vast major women would long since have abandoned it. Like a decade prior.
Yet she was over 60, so i cannot rule out that granny who nobody would have dared to criticized-because she was mother of the king- would have gone around in something way out of fashion.
But then...she has no visible paste and that is consistent with 15th century too. Yet the gown is strongly against it.
So this is bit of contradiction, based upon just this small detail.

But who knows, maybe it is simply dirty in the most unfortunate of the spots and conicidently looks more like u-band, while it might be bit of hair showing.

2. Is it easier to draw someone facing left or right (or forward even): i dont mind either way, but i default to drawing peple facing my left, 3/4 and all that. idk if its easier tho, its just what i do instinctually xd
18. An estimate of how much art supplies you've broken: i have several brushes that have been brutalized, a few times ive broken very thin fineliners (expensive ones too) and felt bad about it for years, plus i have a tendency to break pastels/pencils/crayons sometimes, cuz i press too hard or hold them too tight lol. also i once broke a marker tip. actually probably more than once.
21. Art styles nothing like your own but you like anyways: i love simple cartoony styles, especially ones with cool, exaggerated shapes, but i also love semi-realistic, detailed styles, thus my art ends up in this weird in-between state where i commit to neither :')
25. Something your art has been compared to that you were NOT inspired by: anime. so many people (especially art teachers) say its anime. and like. at one point as a kid i did try to draw in an "anime" style but this was pretty recent. i remember one instance four years ago and once literally last month. luckly it wasnt said in a "kids these days" way or "dont draw like that" way, it was just like, an acknowledgement. maybe theyre right tho lmao.
26. What's a piece that got a wildly different interpretation from what you intended:
okay this is a bit long, but in my 3rd year of art high school i had the principal as my design teacher for a year (the horror). she's this older lady and tho she acted nice for the most part, she could be rly mean (to this day idk if she said certain things on purpose to make us feel bad, or if she legit didnt know how degrading it sounded). she would often read into every little thing about a piece when it really wasnt that deep. or she would read into it and miss the point and come up with some other, out-there interpretation. she also liked to mention plagarism (asking us if we came up with everything ourselves and whatnot) and she would come up with some wild metaphors and symbols that were not really there. for example once she said that a window i drew made her think of imprisonment, because it looked like the bars of a cell, i guess. so this one time for an assigment i made a piece with four characters representing different emotions (happy, sad, angry and apathetic) and they all had colors assigned (yellow, blue, red and gray). it was only their heads visible and they had no real distinguishing features, just the planes of their face and a mouth to indicate a facial expression. i thought it was pretty straightforward, thought she would say it wasnt rly complex enough as a concept. like you know, emotions are a very simple idea and the colors were pretty basic, "blue for sad" is not exactly innovative. so anyway, she said it really made her think and might be interpreted as racist. didnt even pick up on the "emotions as colors" side of it all, despite it being the only real meaning i intended. she was fun, but only in retrospect.

man this is partially gonna sound weird as hell but big personal incoherent oc/grief vent down below
there's... something jarring to me abt losing oc ships I've had for SUCH a long time (in regards to being dumped by a close friend whom I had said ships with)
cause its like. these ships had almost become canon in my mind. I thought about them a lot, they were so Real to me.
not to mention the kids those ocs had together cause we literally made those together. designed those ocs together. I can't bear to part with them as painful as it is to keep them
I'm trying to cope but I find myself truly missing them and it's like.... i some weird way I want to find a way to fit this into a scenario. to idk work through the pain?
like like
Olivia waking up from what seemed to be a really long dream.
she had a loving husband and kids and everything. she was happy.
but she wakes up now as though it had never been- because that's kinda how it felt to me
looking around her empty bedroom. no husband, no kids, no proof of the life she had lived.
but it felt so real
it felt so long
but she's the lonely, haunted woman she was. not the happy woman finally finding peace in her family.
and she's not okay about that (neither am I)
same goes for my other ocs who were in ships with this friend. Adam, too. the one oc of mine they claimed was their favourite.
makes me look at him differently, even if slightly.
idk it's weird. those ships meant a lot to me as strange as that may sound. the things me and that friend made together meant so much to me. and I'm still struggling to deal with everything being gone now. what we did is still here, I can still read it, but it's like... it's wrong, now. it doesn't feel right to think of our ocs like that anymore as much as it pains me.

I'm not okay about it even though a few weeks have passed since it happened.
I'm still grieving losing someone so dear to me over a small issue that didn't need to happen at all. I was never given a chance to fix anything and it's left me with a ball of feelings I can't express. I couldn't even respond.
I miss talking to them, I miss the oc stuff we talked about, and so many other things...
maybe it sounds trivial to an outsider but the truth is I value my ocs and their ships a lot and when I've had ships for so long with someone I cared about this much it's like... a part of me being ripped away, when they ripped me out of their life, too.
you might've thought that by cutting me out of your life I would only lose being able to talk to you but. it's so much more than that. everything that was influenced by you. everything that i made because of you. everything I had collected in my mind and cherished such as the oc stuff. heck even some of my ocs were influenced by you and now are different for me because of that association. everything that reminds me of you, things I would've sent you if I was still able to talk to you. the stories in my mind of our ocs. everything that made you an important part of my life. it's all still there but now it tastes sour and miserable. tainted if you will. I lost someone I cared for deeply. someone I thought cared for me too. and it didnt even have to go this way but how the fuck was I supposed to know something was wrong when you never told me? why did you never tell me and then bail at the very end?
did our friendship mean so little to you that it was so easy for you to cut me off like I was nothing? I think, surely you must miss me in some way. surely you realize this wasn;t the right or the mature thing to do. surely you cared about me in some shape or form. surely you were happy knowing me and talking to me too. you wouldn't have stuck around for as long as you did otherwise.
before it all happened you said 'I rlly don't want to hurt your feelings'........ and then followed that up by doing. possibly the most hurtful thing you could have. being uncomfortable is one thing but not giving the other a chance at all to fix this supposed issue or even letting me respond to these- rather unfair and shallow claims you made about me is... so cowardly. I had hoped you trusted me.
I don't want to say maybe its better this way cause honestly it doesn't feel that way but. if you were fine treating me this way, someone who was supposedly one of your closest friends, then... maybe you weren't the amazing friend I thought you were.
especially because I would never treat you like this. all I ever did was love you. maybe there's another reason you did not talk to me? maybe you had some issues over on your end that you weren't willing to talk about which resulted in this big breakup? was it worth cutting me out of your life over?

alrighty, ive now caught up from my backlog of touhous that ive beaten, so the pace from now on is gonna slow down since i need to beat the games first before i write about them. who knows though, if they take as long as this one did maybe i can keep up this pace :P
nina's thoughts on Touhou 12 - Undefined Fantastic Object
so funny story, after Subterranean Animism took me like two weeks to finish, i went into UFO expecting a similar result, but i ended up clearing within a single day. twelve (12) attempts of UFO and i had already got my 1cc! im a bit impressed with myself tbh, but i think i was helped by the gameplay changes in UFO that make it a bit easier.
for starters, real bombs are back baby! no more trading attack power for survivability, full power bombs are here again as a seperate resource. life pieces stick around, but now boss fights only give one out when you defeat their last phase. you would think this makes life pieces incredibly scarce, but theres another entirely new source for them: the titular Undefined Fantastic Objects. some enemies now drop little ufos that fly around the screen that come in one of three colours. when you pick up a ufo it goes into a small tracker in the corner, and when you collect 3 in a row all of one colour, or 1 of each, then a Big UFO spawns on screen. the UFO sticks around for about 10 seconds, slurping up every collectible that shows up onscreen. for each item it grabs, a meter around the ufo fills up and at max it drops an item depending on the colour, and when destroyed it drops another item plus everything it picked up. rainbow ufos drop more small ufos, green gives you a bomb on full meter and a bomb-piece on kill, red gives you a life piece on both, and blue does… something? i don't know. i never saw any items pop out of a blue ufo, and i prioritized blue ufos the least. i can only assume they do something relating to points since those are blue, but i honestly have no idea cause i beat the game before i had to go look anything up about it. once i figured out red guys gave you life i basically hard-focused proc'ing red ufos as much as possible, going for rainbow or green when red wasnt possible. as weird as the ufos are, i have to say their mechanics are conveyed surprisingly well without any real tutorials or even words, just really solid ui design.
the last new addition to the gameplay comes in the playable characters, Sanae is here now! wooo Sanae lets go! obviously Reimu and Marisa are here too, each of them get 2 weapon options so theres still only 6 total. i gave each one a shot, although some of them i literally only played once lol. Reimu has the standard homing shots and needles, Marisa has her illusion lasers but a new secondary weapon that shoots in sort of branching V-shapes, with a couple shots going behind her as well as in front, which i didnt find many uses for in my brief experience with it. illusion laser is the only one of these that i played more than once, as i put most of my focus into Sanae. both of Sanae's movesets are pretty neat, her first one was my weapon of choice for my 1cc attempt. based on Kanako, she shoots out snake beams that fly vertically, and then if they see an enemy to their left or right they take a 90 degree turn, making for an interesting type of homing. her other set, based on Suwako, shoots out frog beams in a wide fan angle, or straight ahead when focused, that explode into lingering AoE damage when they hit a target, which is great at clearing out huge swarms of enemies. i really like how her movesets sorta play off of Reimu's homing shots and Marisa's piercing lasers, but in very different ways compared to the two of them.
for the new characters, my favourite is probably Kogasa. this poor umbrella girl just wants to be scary, but shes inherently too silly-goofy and struggles to do what she as a youkai is Supposed to do. she's trying her best though, and looks adorable while doing it. i believe in you Kogasa!
i wasn't expecting to be a Ichirin & Unzan fan, but they surprised me. Ichirin is basically a stand user, a buddhist monk who controls her partner Unzan, a old man wind spirit with a powerful beard and even more powerful fists. the spell cards involving Unzan are great, seeing his huge angry face show up and throw hands is just hilarious. the best one by far though is their final attack, what i would call the absolute funniest spell card of the entire series so far: Thunderous Yell 「A Scolding from a Traditional Old Man」. if the name alone didn't convince you, the visuals are also hilarious, with two massive Unzan faces appearing on each side of the screen and shooting angry eye lasers at you. just look at it. perfection.
it's become a pattern in these posts that i talk about three new characters, but none of the others in UFO really stood out to me. if i had to pick one id go with Captain Murasa, just cause pirates are cool, but i don't have much more to say about her lol. sorry UFO crew!
anyways i think its about time to wrap this one up. thankfully i kept this one short so we dont have another SA essay situation lol. UFO is pretty fun, if a little bit Too easy with how much free stuff you can get from good ufo management. the story and characters really didn't stand out to me, and with how quickly i finished this one i don't expect it to really stick out much in my brain once i finish the series. if anything from UFO sticks it probably will just be Unzan's laser eyes. can we play that back one more time? thanks.

[Finally forcing myself to post the reviews of films I watched earlier this year. Saw this one on January 29th — almost exactly seven months ago! As usual, I also post the notes I took while watching, so scroll down a bit if you only want the review.]

Review
How come Tumblr has never mentioned this one to me? Feels silly to say “where have you all been hiding this” about a Best Picture nominee from five years ago, but still. This is literally a romance between “ok first of all i didnt "miss" the red flags i looked them and thought yeah thats sexy” and “love my terrible wife […] when we eat dinner ill smile and say “poison again ?” and she will shrug mischievously but we both know it is very much poison”!
General notes
Set design, cinematography and lighting were beautiful. In our age of murky shots, it’s remarkable to see a film that’s never underlit — sometimes even the opposite. Wasn’t a fan of the grain, though; the flickering is hard on the eyes, and in the copy I watched it looked like a low quality rip instead of a warm nostalgic analogue look that I assume was intended. The sound side was as good as the visuals: this might be the first time I actually noticed the sound design, and the score was nothing less than what I expected of Jonny Greenwood.
I have mixed feelings about the costuming. Some of the dresses are beautiful… but the two most important ones, the very first dress we see and the very first dress made for Alma, didn’t fit the wearers’ silhouettes, and looked stiff and uncomfortable.
Some of the dialogue, mostly at the beginning, felt unnatural; not sure if that’s just me not being a native speaker, since nobody else had the same complaint.
I didn’t get “never cursed”. Was that a statement Reynolds secretly made about himself, or a lucky charm referring to the princess’ marriage? Why did Alma rip the label out? Why did she join the seamstresses in the first place — did she feel guilty that they got caught in the crossfire and had to work overtime because of her, or did she just want to inspect the dress? I also don’t understand why people seem to adore the New Year’s Eve scene.
Do you think Alma told the doctor the whole story, or just talked about their relationship but left out the poisonings? I think it would be unwise to tell that to anyone lest they call the police…
In the sections below, I am going to talk negatively about Reynolds a lot. So I want to clarify first: I do sympathize with Reynolds in many ways; I wouldn’t want a new person to get in the way of my habits, and I would be unhappy with the surprise dinner too. And that’s also exactly why I don’t invite strangers to live with me and interrupt my routines then get mad at them for that, you know…
Filing this one as “Movies I wouldn’t want to watch or discuss with my mother even though there’s zero sex and nudity on screen”. I don’t know which part would be more awkward, the Freudian subtext or everything else…
The omelette
I’ve recently acquired a bad habit of reading too much about movies before watching. In this case it was probably a good thing, though: without the spoilers, I doubt I would have seen this any time soon, or managed to sit through the first hour. Luckily, I didn’t know the key element of the omelette scene, and still managed to have a proper first time viewing experience as it slowly dawned on me that Reynolds was aware of everything and the poisoning was going to be consensual this time.
That scene, and the follow-up interactions between Alma and Reynolds in the cottage (excluding the daydreaming flash-forwards, which I have mixed feelings about), were, unsurprisingly, my favorite part of the film. Many reviews quote Alma’s monologue (which, as I realize now, I might have originally encountered in a joke screenshot with zero context) or the line Reynolds says in response, so I’ll highlight some other things. The contrast between how simple and ordinary their actions are on the surface (cooking, serving food, eating, talking at the table) and how wild the meaning of these actions is; the mix between a duel, a dance and a negotiation that mostly consists of extremely mundane movements. The intense eye contact, the “I know that you know that I know”. How Alma put too much butter in his food and poured water too loudly for too long, and he accepted it without complaint but with the same calm and clarity as the poison. How they look genuinely happy, in love, and on the same page for the first time in the entire film. How easily he says “I love you”.
The omelette discourse
…And now that I’ve documented my immediate positive emotional response, it’s time for some overthinking and complaining. Perhaps everything I say below can be dismissed by saying “they’re both awful and deserve each other, that’s the point haha”, but that’s not a mode my brain can stay in for long. So please bear with me, or just skip this section.
Because no matter how exciting and cathartic that ending is, I can’t help but ask: what next? Is this experience going to let Reynolds finally grow out of his cycle of childlike helplessness and patriarchal despotism, instead of solidifying it? What are we supposed to infer — that the poisonings are going to be a regular occurrence from now on, or that they will become unneeded as Reynolds gradually mellows out? (The former would, realistically, have diminishing returns and practical complications like “people are going to start asking questions”, and the latter kind of goes against the celebratory kink-positive tone of the film’s grand finale.) Are we to believe that Alma’s poison is an antidote to Reynolds’s toxic masculinity, and that the more he submits to Alma the more he can tolerate her when things go back to normal, until the two of them grow to exist harmoniously?
I guess there is some evidence of that process already beginning. When Reynolds bounces back after the first poisoning, he’s slightly less mean to Alma than before the marriage. Alma’s poisoning is also less destructive the second time: consent, no collateral damage, not on the eve of an important deadline, she agrees to call the doctor.
I think the film wants the viewer to think that by the end, Reynolds and Alma’s mutual toxicity cancels itself out, and they manage to reach a harmonious equilibrium. That might be true of the first poisoning, where Alma retaliates against Reynolds’s abuse with some of her own. At the mid-point of the film, their vileness is pretty evenly matched. After that first poisoning, there’s a brief honeymoon period. Then Reynolds goes back to berating Alma, disregarding her feelings, and being dissatisfied with her presence in his life… And in response to Reynolds making her feel unloved, Alma does something that makes Reynolds feel loved. In the end, the score is still in Reynolds’s favor instead of being even. Even in Alma’s daydreams of their happily ever after, the closing monologue of the film, there is no mention of Reynolds changing to accommodate her, only of Alma changing to accommodate him: “I am older and I see things differently, and I finally understand you.”
Perhaps here the story structure and the balance of power between the characters are in conflict; it makes sense to end the film on the strong scene that changes the relationship in a major way — but that means the viewer doesn’t get to know if that change leads to improvement. We never learn if Reynolds eventually becomes a better partner; we only know that Alma is committed to him either way.
No matter how satisfying the couple’s new arrangement is to watch, I don’t see how it would help with the actual problems in their relationship. They are at different stages of life, and that exacerbates the natural differences between their temperaments. Reynolds doesn’t respect Alma as an equal; he insults her and allows others to insult her to his face. He has immense power and privilege over her socially and materially. He has a career that he loves and a devoted sister, but she has no life outside of him — no friends, family, interests, hobbies, income, etc. — and it’s hard to tell if it’s sexist writing, intended characterization, or both.
How is any of that going to be helped by them growing closer emotionally? You two found a love language you have in common and unlocked a new level of intimacy and mutual understanding, congratulations! Is it going to broaden Alma’s horizons and opportunities? Is it going to give Reynolds more progressive views and social awareness, enough to at least defend the honor of his lower class wife? Is he going to stop being emotionally abusive because he is emotionally fulfilled?
This would imply that Reynolds behaves the way he does simply because he is too high-strung and he just needs to take a chill pill. That the problems in their relationship can be reduced to him being a control freak, and once he gets accustomed to giving up control and learns to enjoy it, and then he’ll be a good partner. Sorry, but it’s hard for me to believe that one can tame, let alone fix someone by domming them.
The film seems to attempt a subversion of the patriarchal, hierarchical “artist/muse” “upper class/working class” “man/woman” power dynamics. But the characters do not dismantle that existing power imbalance: instead, they build something new and mutually satisfying on top of it. The film intentionally avoids the feminist wish fulfillment route: Alma doesn’t liberate herself, and she doesn’t even want to. It’s a fairy tale where the Beast doesn’t really become a better person, so the Beauty becomes a worse one to “match” him… but she’s still locked inside his castle. Alma doesn’t abandon the role of a muse, only adds another traditionally feminine role to it: mother. As Feminist Frequency’s review puts it, “Traditional, restrictive gender roles are not escaped; one set is just briefly swapped out for another.” Related: it might be just a consequence of Reynolds’s chosen trade, but the people Alma walks over in her bids for his attention are always women (Barbara Rose, the seamstresses).
Speaking of motherhood… What happens when the woman who likes to treat her husband like a baby gets a real baby? How does she split her time between them? Does she end up neglecting one of them, does that make Reynolds jealous or more abusive? Or will he by that time have gone through enough personal growth to be actually fit for fatherhood? An interview with an expert on Alma’s specific brand of abuse asks an even more worrying question: “I also wondered about the baby at the end, because those who engage in the behavior are likely to do it [again] when similar situations arise. So as the baby gains skills of emancipation, would Alma be equally threatened by that? I saw the baby and thought: Oh no, it may be at risk.”
Perhaps I am being overly cynical and uncharitable here because of who made the film. When an artist with a history of being cruel to his girlfriend writes a story about an artist being cruel to his girlfriend, and makes the fictional girlfriend abusive too, how can I not question it? This film was already very awkward to approach and enjoy as a fan of Fiona Apple, even regardless of its content.
The relationship development
Another thing that didn’t work very well for me in the final sequence is something that also applies to the other parts of the film: the internal logic of the couple’s relationship development. Reynolds goes from “This was a mistake, I can’t live like this, I want a divorce” to “Intoxicate me now 😏 With your lovin’ now 😍 I think I’m ready now 😳” in the space of one cut. These scenes are directly adjacent with no development between them. It makes sense from Alma’s perspective (“what an asshole he’s being, he needs to be poisoned ASAP”), but not from Reynolds’s.
On Alma’s side, though, there’s also a bit of weirdness: Alma to Reynolds: Don’t worry babe you’re not gonna die, I’ll take care of you <3 Alma to the doctor: If he died that’d be fine by me, we’d just meet in the afterlife ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ I really can’t tell how I am supposed to take this, and which of the men she was lying to!
But let’s go back to the beginning of the film. Throughout the initial phase of the relationship, I was sure that Reynolds chose playful bullying as his flirting tactic consciously, but later in the film he showed so little self-awareness that I started to suspect he thought that was a normal way to show interest in a girl you just met. Either way, I was surprised that the way he condescended to her changed considerably when the seduction was over, though in retrospect it makes sense. On Alma’s side, there was a similar shift: she was far more welcoming of his insulting methods of flirting than I would expect from a self-respecting adult with a strong personality, and started rebelling when they settled into domesticity. Perhaps the domineering attitude of a handsome stranger showering her with attention was exciting at first, but when their relationship became routine, she quickly grew sick of being treated like a second class citizen in what has become her own home. (I wasn’t joking with the quote at the top of the review: it was my genuine and immediate impression that Alma goes along with the 342561 red flags exhibited during the very first day not because she’s a doormat but because she’s a freak.)
The love at first sight didn’t work for me, as well as the couple’s determination to stay together despite their incompatibility. I’m just not convinced that they actually love each other as entire human beings. They do love certain sides of each other. Reynolds loves the muse with the perfect measurements; the assistant totally devoted to him; the new woman (future) finally displacing his older sister (present) and mother (past) while, unlike them, also being his sexual partner. Alma loves the genius who makes her feel beautiful and important. They both love the persona the other assumes in a caretaking scenario. But is there a deeper connection? Do they actually love each other unconditionally, not just the aspects of each other that fulfill their needs? I’ve seen quotes in confirmation of that from PTA and Vicky Krieps — but the text itself provides no satisfactory evidence of that.
Obligatory comparisons with other films
I like to chain movies together because of themes or character dynamics they share. A couple of reviews for Crimes of the Future mentioned this film, and I decided to watch it next assuming that the similarities start and end with the relationship between an aging artist and a strong-willed younger woman. Turns out, these two films also make an interesting double feature because in some ways they’re an inverse of each other. Crimes of the Future and its main couple wear abnormality on their sleeve, but the central relationship is healthy and stable; Phantom Tread appears classy and family-friendly, hiding the more shocking aspects of the relationship beneath the luxurious surface. Both films are very sensual without the conventional sex scenes, but the approach is diametrically opposite: Crimes of the Future circumvents the content rating system, managing to put explicit scenes on screen just because they don’t contain specific banned body parts; Phantom Thread purposefully and conspicuously avoids showing any sex or nudity to preserve the aesthetic and make other scenes feel more charged. The protagonist’s old age is important in both: for Saul, it’s deteriorating health and conservatism towards newer ideologies and ways of interacting with and modifying one’s body; for Reynolds, it is the decades of habit and privilege making him internalize the belief that his own authority, taste, routines are something absolute and unquestionable.
A bigger surprise was the two films also shared the theme of food and eating. Crimes of the Future: eating as a fundamental bodily function, food as means of sustenance, and the politics of food; Phantom Thread: eating as pleasure, food as means of human connection, and the power dynamics of feeding and being fed. Both films go deeper than the surface: food is not just something that is served and tasted, but chewed, swallowed, and digested, which is not necessarily a smooth and uncomplicated process. Phantom Thread’s exploration of the food theme is probably the best one I’ve seen so far not just in film but in any media, and the only one I can think of where “food as love and sex” made sense for me.
Choosing The Favourite as the next film to watch after this one was a good choice too: they also had some things in common. There’s a young woman winning an older and more powerful person’s affection by taking care of them while they’re sick, there are toxic relationship, there’s even literal poison... The older parties are similarly spoiled and eccentric but very different in certain important ways, and the protagonists are even more alike.
People have mentioned this film’s similarities to Rebecca, which I haven’t read or watched; my own first thought was about Misery, which I also haven’t read or watched. Out of the films I’ve seen before, there’s Crimson Peak — someone made an entire Venn diagram for their similarities. I’ve also seen comparisons with a number of other films, mostly ones I haven’t seen. Is Phantom Thread more intertextual than the usual or is that just me?

Return of the dragon | chapter iii “Grace cried power”
grace stark cuddled up to Thomas Mann was splashed across page six with a rather unflattering image of them both in his limo, their eyes scrunched and red from flash photography. Her father had waved it in her face at breakfast and grace had angrily bitten into her croissant whilst pepper stared at the two of them blankly. They both knew it was a fake relationship purely for the sake of pr but clearly tony was hoping it was more. He had wiggled his eyebrows in the strangest way possible and taken a large and loud sip of his coffee whilst he waited for her answer.
"what do you want me to say dad?" she eventually snapped this is why I stay away from my family
"are you happy?" she gripped her knife tighter and took a deep breath to fight the urge to dig it into her fathers neck
"not at this present moment, no" her tone was bitter and sharp which somehow amused her little sister as morgan was giggling at the scene in front of her
"oh grace, he just wants to see you in a relationship you know that."pepper smiled almost apologetically at the girl and grace felt that sickly feeling in her stomach. He doesnt want me to be happy he just wants me to get married. She smiled back at pepper but it must have looked more like a grimace because the woman gave her another apologetic look.
"Im perfectly happy single dad. I have places to be anyway so ill get going now." she walked fast out of the room with the croissant between her teeth and the magazine squeezed in her fist. The more she thought the angrier she became and by the time she arrived at her room the magazine had orange flickers crawling about it. That was becoming a habit recently and Grace had elected to keeping her hair away after she had almost burnt it off. Her skin was resistant to fire however, it had been since the accident.
The fire summoning was new however and Grace could barely even comprehend it let alone control it. She had shunned her powers for years, with memory spells and secrets. She didnt understand what she was. Was she a witch like Wanda or a sorcerer like Loki or a mutant like Pietro. The origin of her powers were unknown and after hours of research she found nothing. It seemed no one in the past million years had possessed powers like hers. All that existed was a whispered legend of a forgotten race of people with the power of elements, of true nature. There was only one person who might know anything about her and her powers but she was much to proud to go asking. Grace knew damn well he would laugh in her face and refuse, or worse, make her beg. Loki thrived off of power and dominance. He had the urge to always be in control and always be on top. It was something Grace respected and even agreed with but she just could not find it in her to like him and the feeling was mutual. In the months she has been an avenger she had stabbed him twice, he had attempted to drown her in the pool and were notorious for fighting and arguing on all missions they were put on together.
She let the flames grow on the magazine until it was fully engulphed. Puffs of smoke floated around the room in whisps of silver and shaped around her. Grace allowed herself to be calm closing her eyes and steadying herself until there was nothing but the charred remains of the gossip magazine. She tossed them into the bin and wandered to the bathroom she shared with Loki. However when she opened it he was stood dripping with a towel wrapped around his waist. He was angry yet silent as he rubbed some sort of Asgardian oil onto his pale skin. She stood there and stared at him for a second to take him in. Loki was a very private person, unlike his brother who was half naked half the time, she had never seen him wearing less than a designer suit. His body was defined and muscular and although he wasnt as bulked up as his Thor he looked strong, intimidatingly so even. Upon further looking she saw scars littered across his soft skin. Some red and ragged others rippled and shiny. Some that looked like slashes and stabs but many that looked like burns. They had been hidden slightly in scar creams but they were still there. Pepper had told Grace about Loki, how he had been weakened then controlled by the sceptre but she hadnt thought about just how he had been weakened. Tortured. Thats what it looked like to her. Loki would be much to vain to do it so himself and his brother is lacking any sort of similar scars himself. He seemed to have grown impatient at her staring as he rudely interrupted her chugging train of thought
"what do you want stark?" he looked strangely uncomfortable which was weird for Loki who always looked stoic and mildly murderous
"I just need to wash my hands. And stop calling me that" she walked to the second sink next to him and turned on the cold tap, letting it drive away the coal dust on her skin.
"it is what you are is it not?" he said without looking at her "a stark" her name left his lips like a curse and Grace didnt have to look his way to know his lips were sneered and his eyes full of hatred.
"ill have to start calling you prick then. Because thats what you are is it not?" she still did not look up but heard a loud clattering of jars and an almost slam of his cabinet. She heard him turn around and then looked up as he stormed away, black coils tapping on his defined back as he left.
Grace was lounging comfortably on the soft sofa in the library, her legs tucked up underneath her and a copy of Emma by Jane Austen open in her hands. A few hours of undisturbed piece had done her good. It was as if Loki was gone entirely from her head, her powers too. She was not worried about control or hurting someone, only Emmas unkind words to poor miss bates. That was until Wanda came bursting through the door in search for her
"there is someone here. Someone different I can sense it" she put her tattered book down and turned around to face the red head.
"why does it matter wan, unless were being invaded by aliens?"
"then kind of, shes Asgardian and likes Loki so we should probably take that into consideration" she chuckled at that and stood up. Together they both walked to the common room where several people were huddled around this girl. She was tall and had short blonde hair. Her skin was pale like Lokis and her eyes were dark  blue. She looked oddly familiar but Grace chalked it up to being blonde considering how many blondes she knew. The girl stood up when she noticed Grace and walked over to her, she extended her hand and grace shook it with a polite smile
"my name is Sylvie" she had the same accent as the Odinson brothers and the same diplomatic look that she knew all too well
"its nice to meet you. My names Grace, Grace Stark"
"are you his daughter?" Sylvie asked, gesturing to Tony who was sat comfortably on his thousand dollar arm chair.
"unfortunately" Grace said bluntly. Sylvie laughed, assuming it was a joke and Grace smiled awkwardly to play it off.
"you two look so alike"
"so I hear" she said with a chuckle Sylvie walked over to the sofa and Grace followed after her
"but I have to say you are the prettier one" grace almost blushed at that, she had always struggled with compliments and had no idea what to say other than an awkward thank you. Tony saved her however with his objections
"ill have to disagree there. Have you seen how gorgeous my eyes are"
"we have the same eyes dad"
Loki huffed loudly , visibly irritated by Sylvies complement.
"be careful complimenting the Starks. It makes them even more insufferable" grace rolled her eyes and glared at him mouthing cunt to him when he caught her eye.
"tell me Sylvie, was he this much of a dickhead on Asgard too?"
"yes, though you mustnt take it personally, Loki hates everyone"
He hadnt meant to pry, truly. But she had left the door wide open and Loki was curious by nature. He found her room a strange place, piled high with books and pictures. It was rather messy he observed and there was an open moving box filled to the brim with seemingly unused notebooks in a range of different colours and sizes. Grace was nowhere to be found so he urged on walking through her living room and towards her bedroom. He knew it was wrong to be doing this but he just couldnt help it. He knew nothing about her, she was a mystery to him. She appeared to hate her father and the avengers yet stayed willingly. She had powers he never even seen and he was entirely convinced shed subconsciously lit a candle with her mind, as ridiculous as it sounds. He pushed open the door to her room and saw her, her back was almost fully turned away from him and she was staring intensely at a ball of fire. She was holding fire in her hands that she must have summoned. Loki nearly stumbled back in shock and all but ran away from her rooms.
The dragon had returned, and it was Grace Stark

so I got a new device that’s much better at running Genshin than my poor iPhone 7, and there’s so much I couldn’t even see before - Zhongli’s coat has brassy scale shapes on it!!!! His pupils are diamond shaped?!?! Have you noticed these details? What else have I been missing out on!? ~🎇
i have, but thats bc i play on pc and looked at zhongli over the year more than i looked at all my assignments in total (i only play on mobile when im having too much time between courses but i dont remember if i can see these there too or not)

the stone dumbbell (the catalyst in the form of a burr puzzle) guizhong gifted him on their first meeting as a mark of their pledge (challenging him to unlock it which he still cant unlock to this day) is the meteor he uses; hes basically carrying her memory with him all the time by using it to yeet at enemies. it contains guizhongs wisdom (her brains) and he uses it as a weapon bc he still cant open it (his brawn) (zhongli is not only a polearm but also a catalyst user if u wanna see it that way LMFAO)

its very funny the more you pay attention to his details, even if you leave out some certain, telling traits of his personality (forgetting mora bc he never had to use it as a god and the creator of mora, knowing everything about everything thanks to guizhong and witnessing it itself, loving to collect treasures, etc etc), despite being incognito everything about him screams rex lapis, its really funny lolol

SO, I've def talked about this before, but I wanted to make a legit new ref for Kei as I've changed a few minor but rather important things with her design! The full ref isn't done, but here's one shot of the new DJ Parasite!♡
I really detest the lack of body positivity we have ingrained in media & how so many plus-sized characters are basically reduced to being made the punchline of some cruel jokes or that if they're fat, it's turned into a personality trait & I'm tired of it! Also, I especially wanted to alter Kei's design after I realized how there's very VERY little variety in body shapes for the big players in BH6 x( It's no surprise myself & many others are insecure in our own bodies because of things like this...
So, to sort of combat this mentality my own way, nothing about Kei's personality has changed AT ALL & her outfit is barely any different - besides the fact I changed how her suspenders attach to her belt because I only just realized the circle things I drew before didnt make any sense lmao!! But NOW, even while being overweight, Kei's still zany, high energy, ridiculous & villainous as ever! She's not embarrassed of her size & she still rocks her crop top & doesn't give a damn what anyone thinks!!
Now tho, she probably does give the best, softest & warmest hugs ever~ & her design will contrast beautifully with Obake's tall, sharp & angular design he's got going on!
So, winning all across the board as far as I'm concerned!!!!

honestly, on the topic of g1 being forgotten, i want to thank you sm for giving these pones so many awesome designs! even though i love lauren faust and her work on g4, i feel like bonnie zacherle and the origins of mlp in general are overlooked often. i love pretty much all the generations in their own way, and again, thank you a ton for shining a light on the characters that usually get forgotten about!

i like, appreciate what lauren did for her gen, im not the biggest fan of the art style of g4 but i love that she made the show's story how she played with her toys as a kid. and i think its a shame that after her departure from the show the plot and story got kinda messy and a little fan servicey
but g1 is the orgin of it all!! the art style is so cute, the whole generation is special for so many reasons! and i dont want people to think g4 is the only gen, or g4 and then maybe g3! i ESPECIALLY hate when people want to call any of the old gens ugly! their cute and charming! and the designs are all special and fun to each generation
g1 had very soft and chunky pony designs, typically simplier designs but the toys were very good and the special designs like the rainbow ponies or the twice as fancy or twinkle eyes!! their such simple but very charming and cute gimmicks! and that gen had a lot to offer in terms of story and world building imo, like for a show as old as it was!
g2 didnt have a series and the designs were VERY different, but you KNOW its g2 when you look at them, their designs and body shape are very charming and silly and the style is very glitter rainbow girly but i lovE the small details like the eye art style!
and g3 had SUCH impeccable color design! there was hardly a pony that did have at least three colors in their hair! and when they sometimes split rainbow colored designs between the mane and tail!
and the return of the cuter chunky body with the lil magnetic hoof and heart spot!! i grew up with g3 and i really love it!! its show was very simple but i really loved it, and i remember star catcher being my most favorite toy as a kid ;w;
i just!! the only gens still have so much to offer and i dont want up to leave behind the hard work these old generations gave us!

HEAVY FBAA SPOILERS
I just trying to figure these books out, understand the prophecy, find who the dark one is and I would have very good theories IF JLA DIDNT HAVE THE HABITS OF LYING AND CHANGING EVERYTHING WE KNOW IN EACH BOOK.
I’m not even sure about the whole primals to gods to deities to godlins thing bc its so complicated. And then what are Atlantians ? What makes them, what makes them more than mortal, how are the bloodlines created ? By the union of deities and mortals ? Are they godlins ? that are the "basics" I don’t quite understand or just can’t remember.
PLUS they’re so many characters I love it but it’s a lot and we can never be sure who they really are bc jla loves to play w us ;) but i have it kind of figured out. I will try to share and explain some theories I saw left and right. Maybe these are well known and already discussed and shit but I’m new on here and I’ve never been able to rant and exchange w FBAA fans before so I’ll give it a try, feel free to react in fact pls DO REACT
So according to some theories, Isbeth is not really poppy’s mother and she just tries to mess w her, which I think would be kind of a deja-vu turnaround but whatever, so my guess is that poppy is the daughter of ires (that we know for sure.. I hope) and JADIS, nektas daughter. It would made her a god AND some kind of draken, although I’m really not sure about this, it would be sm cooler than Isbitch and would explain (if there is anything to explain, it might just be details, not a big part of the plot) why poppy is so interested in shape changing creatures and why the draken are becoming highlights of the books (poppy meeting nektas, the draken being what they are : the super powerful protectors of primals, jadis being that cute baby everybody love in ASITE, then going missing w ires and now we don’t know what happened to her). But I’m pretty sure JLA confirmed Isbeth was her real mother so let’s just focus on the REAL THING >> THE DARK ONE.
Two options in my opinion : Kolis or the supposedly dead son of malec and isbeth. Kolis bc the Dark One is described as a whole different entity compared to everything we know, he has no face, pretty much no soul.. he’s just a void yk and that would match Kolis bc in the ASITE timeline, one way or another, he was dispossessed from both title, he cannot be life nor death since by usurping one he lost the other. AND they manifest in the same way : when Nyktos went to claim Sera in the ASITE prologue, he had a hood covering his face and shadows and darkness were surrounding him. Exactly like the dark one during poppy’s attack. So he just goes around doing shit till he finds poppy during the attack that killed her adoptive parents, spare and protect her BC SHE IS SOTORIA REBORN (cus she’s a descendant of sera who is sotoria reincarnated, and it goes on and on) AND HE CAN ONLY PROTECT THE OBJECT OF HIS UNDYING LOVE THAT HE LOST THOUSANDS OF YEARS AGO. We can add to this theory that he is in some ways linked to Isbeth great design like maybe he was order to get poppy for isbeth idk or the other way around everything is the plan of Kolis trying to get revenge and he uses Isbeth bc she too wants revenge AND isbeth was all mysterious and teasing a greater plan to cas in the first chapter of TWOTQ (pre-released) so them working together or her for him would make sense (I’m saying this bc it would be weird for the fucking former primal of death to work for a fake god yk but this is just me thinking about everything little single details bc I have adhd and ocds). Anyway maybe they are just two salty bitter bitches who are willing to destroy the worlds for their ego but it’s really not the point even if I’ve been developing this for so long damn write your own book. OR malec and isbeth’s dead son. It would add sm spice to an already way too complicated and spicy plot but we love it. Because yk there’s no proof he’s really dead and maybe Isbeth LIED (that would surprise no one) and she very much would know where he is and how he is doing because bc he’s be very much alive.. and if we want to go further, but again it’s just me saying shit cuz I don’t have the patiente to write my own book, kind of alive bc the Dark One is, as said earlier, a void like no life no death no soul no thoughts head’s empty. Anyway long short story he’d be a revenant, created by Kolis, or not, I just really feel like Kolis has to do w EVERYTHING, since he’s shady and has a habit for doing shit between life and death. That would make sense and just be cool for the plot since he’s Isbeth’s son and she, as far as we know, owns the Revenants. In both cases the Dark One could be connected to Isbeth, or not, depends on how deep you want the plot to go. AND I think Kolis is linked to the Revenant one way or another. But then I’m wondering how could Isbeth be such a big deal.. she was just king malec’s mortal side chick, she’s really overstepping and being dramatic here 🙄🙄 That’s it for now I’m tired I WILL analyze the prophecy later bc I HAVE AN EXCELLENT IMAGINATION
