I’m really back on my balloon bullshit now. ✨🎈✨🎈✨
“In 1862, ambitious scientist James Glaisher set out to do the impossible: ascend higher into the skies than ever before. A pioneer of weather forecasting and of photography, and a founding member of the Royal Meterological Society, he wanted to take groundbreaking research measurements from different altitudes.
On 5 September, along with experienced balloonist Henry Coxwell as his pilot, he lifted off in a hot air balloon for what would prove to be a death defying historic flight. Rising above the English countryside, they rose to the remarkable height of 37,000 feet (7 miles or 11 km)...”
“In this dazzling fusion of history, art, science, and biography, Richard Holmes once again gives us an unforgettable portrait of human endeavor, weaving together exhilarating accounts of early balloon rivalries, pioneering ascents over Victorian cities, and astonishing long-distance voyages.”
WOOHOO~!!!

My brother recently got into Demon Slayer so I wanted to make a kny oc for him since I did it before with both me and my sister and never got around to my brother :)
But I started by refreshing my own design because wow?? It’s been 4 years since I first made my kny insert character and a lot of things are now outdated! Not to mention my art has improved a lot, I hope. More details under the cut!
Meet Ebisu Koharu: youngest of the Ebisu family and physically the weakest. They only barely passed Final Selection by hiding for the entire week and surviving off tips from their older siblings. Nonetheless, they still want to contribute, which is why they hold onto a thick, leather bound book that records every demon they’ve ever met in precise detail, with labeled diagrams and scribbled calculations in the margins of different strengths and weaknesses.
After spending a few years on the job, and properly seeing their data contribute to the successes of other demon slayers, they’ve come a bit more into their own as a competent researcher and fighter, though they still do tend to request paired missions with friends and family to act more as a support role rather than a fighter.
The Ebisu family is one of scholars. The eldest daughter Kaoru is a doctor, and the eldest son Shougen is a chemist. By nature, fighting is not necessarily their strong suit, which is why their family breathing style and techniques are all poison-assisted. Of the three, Koharu is the weakest and most averse to combat— they wield a short half-length blade, with more of a smooth ceremonial hilt and sheath than any practical weapon.

shoutout to Nicasia for being the only one who figured out Jude was the mastermind behind the coup. Orlagh, Madoc, and Balekin, the Big Brained Centuries Old Antagonists, as well as the rest of Elfhame, all convinced her she was wrong so she gave up on trying to prove it after a while but the way she made Jude sweat was soooo girlbosses supporting girlbosses

Artistic rendering of my reactions to the latest chapter of feh. This game is my little telenovela. I love her so much. I know her writing so well that it surprises me sometimes (I’ve been playing this game for nearly 7 years)

Saw your ask about going to a bookshop, got any book recommendations for someone who hasn't read many books in a while? Which type of stories intrigue you the most? Do you like movies? If so, which genres, which flicks?

My favourite fiction genre is fantasy, and I do so love @neil-gaiman's books; I've read 6 of his books so far this year. I've also read a few books from people here on Tumblr, such as Time to Orbit: Unknown and Curse Words by @derinthescarletpescatarian or Hunger Pangs by @thebibliosphere, or When The Angels Left The Old Country by @kuttithevangu. They're all lovely authors, and I think that Derin's books would be especially wondrous for someone who hasn't read in a while - they're tremendously engaging. I have also read a lot of other fiction this year, not by authors on Tumblr, but if we were to talk about all of the books I've read, we'd be here all day.
In terms of non-fiction, I tend to like books to do with religion, sociology, and anthropology. I've been reading a few books about the intersection of religion and queer identity lately, including the book I got yesterday. We also tried to look for Gathering Moss, which has been on my to read list for a while, as I loved Braiding Sweetgrass. Sadly, although Gathering Moss was meant to be on the shelf, it couldn't be found, so I couldn't get it yesterday.
Some other books I've got at that bookshop recently included the Wizard of Earthsea trilogy by Ursula K Le Guin, which I haven't read yet, and People Love Dead Jews, which was rather informative. It is a rather lovely bookshop; it's quite small, but it is an independent bookshop and publisher and tends to have books that the larger bookshops don't tend to have.
In terms of films, I tend to prefer either older films, odd films, or a mixture of the two.

i don’t think you understand how much i have been thinking about grushenka’s onion being her sympathy for alyosha after she finds out father zosima has died ? like by the time alyosha enters grushenka’s vision she’s determined to ruin and corrupt alyosha’s heart but as soon as she discovers father zosima’s dead she just ??? full on stops ???there’s like a complete rewiring inside her heart and mind and becomes the person who helps alyosha strengthen his faith in God and in people
but hold on, that’s not it!!
after seeing her kindness and compassion towards him, alyosha ALSO experiences a heart/mind rewiring process himself and goes from thinking grunshenka is an evil woman to believing there’s still love and goodness in her heart and that she’s a true sister.
THIS belief becomes alyosha’s onion and in the same way grushenka’s empathy pulls alyosha from the darkness, his faith in her having a good loving soul pulls grushenka from her own personal hell and gives her the hope that she will get over all her maliciousness
