I was told that Liam had caught a cold due to the rapid changes in the temperature of the air over the past few days.

Feeling worried about him, I immediately rushed to his room to see him—.

Liam: Wow, thanks for coming to see me, Kate. But I’m feeling perfectly fine. Look!

Instead of resting in bed, Liam turned one round on the spot to show me that he wasn't feeling ill.

Kate: Is… that so? Glad you're feeling well…

Liam: I was only feeling a little under the weather, and everyone got so worried already. I’m actually thinking of going outside for a walk right now.

Liam: Shall we go together, Kate?

Liam took my hand, his behaviour no different than usual.

However amazing Liam’s acting skills were, it was impossible to fake his body temperature. Feeling his hot hand made me worry even more.

Liam: That’s because… I was just doing some stretches earlier, so my body’s all warmed up now.

Liam took my hand and led me to the bed before pushing me down onto it.

Kate: Liam… hey…

Liam wasted no time in removing my clothes and dropped light kisses on my check and neck like a playful kitten.

Kate: It’s still morning, and don’t you have a cold… ahh

A high pitched noise escaped me when his teeth touched my nipple.

Liam: I’m telling you that I didn't catch a cold…

Liam: If it’s bothering you that it’s bright outside, I won’t go all the way… okay?

Evading my question, Liam dropped hot kisses all over my body.

My neck, chest, and abdomen — red marks were left on places only my lover had access to.

But I knew that he was only trying to distract me with his actions.

Pushing aside my desire for more kisses of affection from my lover, I met Liam’s eyes directly.

Kate: You always give me lots of kisses… aren't you going to kiss me on the lips today?

Liam: … Uh…

Liam avoided my gaze and was at a loss for words.

I could kind of understand why he was trying hard to pretend that he was fine, despite having caught a cold.

And I knew that probing him further for an explanation wouldn’t solve anything.

Kate: … I love all versions of you, Liam.

Liam: Huh…

My words sounded out of context at first, but Liam looked up at me like he figured out my intention.

Kate: Liam the stage actor, Liam the member of Crown, Liam who’s weak… I love all of them.

Kate: Nothing that happens can ever make me dislike you.

Kate: … Can you trust me?

Liam: …

Liam: I want to trust you… . … I trust you.

Liam: I’m sorry for lying…

Liam finally admitted that he was lying, he revealed what happened a little at a time.

Liam: I feel like I’m inferior to other people, like I’m a good-for-nothing…

Liam: I thought that if I caught a cold and it led to a gap in my work, I would be cast aside and I would lose my place…

Liam: I didn't want you to dislike me. I want to always be the person who makes you happy…

Liam: … That’s why I pretended to be fine.

Liam: And yet you saw right through my act and got worried about me… I’m so pathetic.

Kate: … You’re not pathetic.

Kate: This Liam is the one who’s been there for me ever since I started working as a fairytale writer, because that’s who he is.

Kate: I love you even when you hate yourself. Yes, I will get worried about you, but… don’t hide from me.

— Through my words and actions, I wanted to let him know over and over again just how much I loved him.

I wanted Liam to know that I was more than willing to embrace his weaknesses.

So that Liam’s dangerously imbalanced heart would always come back to me, no matter how close it was to breaking.

Liam: I… I love you too, Kate.

Liam muttered as if digesting the love he received, and he put his lips on mine like he were patching up his broken heart.

The repeated gentle pecking kisses filled me with much more warmth and affection than the kisses placed on my body earlier.

Liam: … Sorry… I wanted to hold back so I wouldn't pass the cold to you, but I ended up doing this anyway.

Kate: … I want this too, so we’re even.

Kate: If I catch a cold because of this, will you take care of me?

Liam: Of course! I don't want anyone else touching you… *cough*

Perhaps because he strained himself too hard, Liam started coughing.

Kate: A-Are you okay!?

Liam: I feel exhausted and sick…

Kate: Lay down on the bed, I’ll lend you my shoulder for support.

Liam: Okay…

With me supporting him, Liam finally laid down to rest in bed.

Liam: I’m sorry to trouble you, Kate…

Kate: You don't have to apologise. I’ll stay by your side until you’re all better, so you can focus on resting well.

Liam: Really? I’m glad…

Liam nuzzled his cheek in my palm affectionately.

(As much as I feel sorry for him… I find Liam’s vulnerable side adorable.)

My love for him only grew stronger as I witnessed a side of him only I could see.

After eating, taking his medication, and resting well, Liam’s fever significantly subsided.

I gave him something I received from Tom, the Director of The Scala. I had been waiting for a suitable time to do so.

Liam: This is…?

Kate: This is the script for your next play. Tom told me to pass it to you, so that you can read it through during your break if you have the time.

Kate: Everyone at the theatre said that they’re waiting for you to recover soon and return to the stage.

Liam: I see…

Liam held the script close to his heart like a precious treasure.

(I hope he spends the time resting his body, instead of reading the script…)

(But I think he’ll feel much more at ease knowing he still has a place to go back to.)

Liam’s relieved expression proved me right.

(While I want to be there as Liam’s support pillar whenever he needs me… I also want him to know that there are other people who also need him besides myself.)

Liam: … Thank you for everything, Kate.

Liam: I felt so anxious when I first caught the cold… but I’m glad you were there for me throughout.

Liam’s smile showed that he felt truly at ease.

And I wanted to continue staying by his side and protecting him like this from now on.

They're just theories, really. It's fun to have an original character who doesn't appear in the novel but might or might not be based on some of the side characters.

Kim might be the series' version of Six, Babe's rival (and old flame? But Kim's definitely nothing of the sort since he and Babe didn't know each other prior to him driving for Red Racing). Six is an alpha and his special abilities help save the day later on (SPOILERS: his powers are mass hallucinations and so strong that he's not allowed to use them - yes there's a special omegaverse police apparently 🤡). But idk, if Kim had these kinds of powers he'd have used them by now to escape his captors, right?

Or maybe he hasn't used them because he and Kenta are plotting. I know, Kenta has chemistry with everyone but the actors promote together so KentaKim will be a thing, right? (Right? 🥺). It's canon that Kenta isn't as loyal as we think but he can't openly oppose Tony so he's scheming behind the scenes. And who better to scheme with than Kim? What if Kim is precisely where he needs to be in order to help bring down Tony's empire? That would explain why he's not keen at all to leave.

That being said, I just love how Kim is actually major main character material. Imagine watching the series entirely from his perspective - it would not only make sense but be insanely good too. Kim is basically the protagonist of the racing BL they baited us with. I was actually so disappointed these past few eps that he didn't have more scenes. I'd have loved to see him investige Tony more, or see his hotel room fight (no way the blood was all his). Hell, I'd read write read fic!

But yeah, then there's also my (now not so) secret headcanon that Kim is an omega because it would be amazing to see an omega kick arse and save the day. But mostly I think it would tick off Winner so bad if he lost against an omega (because he's probably that pathetic and cringe). Pit Babe is already such an unconventional omegaverse story (or idk it's my first omegaverse story lmao) so what's one more trope subverted? 🙏

Eggman's design in Stellar

As you may know by now, Eggman looks a little different as described in Sonic Stellar. His design and anatomy are the same Modern Eggman we all know and love or pretend to love, in the case of those that deliberately misrepresent his character, but he's got a new outfit. Naturally I made sure to describe it in the fic proper, because it'd be weird if I didn't, but I wanted to go a little more in-depth here to give some insight on the thought process behind it. This won't take too long, since it's honestly not that complicated.

So what motivated this? Well, it was actually a late addition. Originally, as was the case in BtS, he was in his regular Modern attire, and even when I began to brainstorm it into existence, I hesitated on it for the longest time because I was concerned as to whether it'd be seen as leaving a piss mark on SEGA's design out of the arrogant belief that it needs to be improved... like what those in charge of certain adaptations tend to do with the characters and universe in general. However, after remembering that there is precedence for one-off shifts in the games proper - see Rouge in Heroes, or Sonic's soap shoes in SA2 - I considered it fair game.

That said, don't assume it's a change for the sake of change: there's a plot reason for it. Since Eggman is attempting to convince the locals of Viridonia (aside from Trudy) that he's a changed man, he switches his appearance to symbolize this... but since he can't help himself, he still has to stylize it so that it's as him as possible.

Now it's time to talk about the actual look. The basic gist is simple enough. Just a nice debonair suit, like this for example:

...but in the distinctive Rrrrrobotnik style, and with the waistcoat unbuttoned, because this man does not operate like most gentlemen. I tried to balance out the doctor's usual colour scheme for it, so you have black for the shirt and pants, red for the waistcoat, yellow for the golden lining within said waistcoat, and white for the shoes (with black tips, like Swanky here), as well as the gauntlets (see below). The Modern jacket may not be present, but I paid tribute to it in spirit.

Instead of having those goggles on his head that he only uses during leap years, I transferred anything they could do to his glasses, reminiscent of how they worked in '06. Yes, there was some '06 inspiration among all this. That's how you know the doctor is officially off his gourd by the time of Stellar.

Of course, the most striking aspect of his new attire are his aforementioned gauntlets, complete with a selection of nifty abilities that allow him to be even more hands-on than he already was... and some clawed tips, cause he felt like it. This was inspired by his control glove in the movies, as I figured that by this point in Game Eggman's career, after all that he's had to put up with, it was a logical next step for such an infamous control freak. Plus, I just think it's neat for him. :D Note that they're not cluttered compared to the rest of his design, they'd have a simplistic look despite some buttons and the like.

Why did I make them gauntlets, instead of just gloves like normal? I found an appeal in how they contrast with the rest of his otherwise low-key dress sense (for his standards). It felt like the sort of thing he would do, as an extra way of commanding your attention. And yes, I'm aware that some readers might assume he has actual robotic hands now, and declare it a brilliant SatAM JoJoke, but I hope repeated use of the word gauntlet should clarify that's not the case... >_>

Fun Fact: Originally, he was only going to have only one gauntlet, for a little bit of asymmetry. However, I realised that Starline already has a similar thing going on, and since I brought him into the story, it might be redundant. So Eggman has them for both hands. Think of it as his unspoken way of one-upping his #1 simp.

I know I originally said in a comment at some point about how annoying the Logan war got (think it was in that post asking why we all suddenly backed off) but now I just find your posts humoring it's like "THIS LITTLE GODDAMN PIECE OF SHIT-" and it's the most innocent picture of Logan.

Love seeing it nowadays (cuz it's funny), but you have a good point that he hasn't furthered the story yet but I feel like Red might change that soon. Hopefully. Also how we haven't had his backstory but that also might change too (we've got a hint in one episode where they fought his bullies, something about how his parents didn't want him and he fact that we've only seen his grandparents but not his actual parents says something....)

Anyways something I need to ask you! What are your opinions on the others, what you like about them or dislike, favorite moments and what not. I'm curious!

I’ll assess them in order of: ashlyn, aiden, taylor, tyler, ben (not by order of how much I like them or anything btw). Some sections are longer than others because I’m bias BUT ALSO BECAUSE I got tired of typing and realized there was wayyy tm to read. Sorry!!!! if you don’t wanna read all this I put a short summary all the way on the bottom + feel free to me ask me specific questions ! now let me talk your ear off

ASHLYN:

I really like ashlyn because she has the most potential out of everyone (and that’s not to say the other characters aren’t deep, because that’s the opposite of true but bae is the whole reason we’re here). I think she’s also really relatable in the sense that she doesn’t like interacting with people but she can easily take the leadership role when needed. like okay queen I see you. also I really enjoy the fact Red made her dislike aiden at first even though they have a side romance plot going rn. bc that’s how it would’ve been if they were real. ash would not just become chatty out of no where and fall head over heels for him. and I really appreciate the slowburn. Ashlyn’s also higher on my favorites list because I’m bias and we have the same hair length 😣 usually when characters have long hair, authors tend to let their hair flow a lot, but red put ts in braids 🙏 and ask anyone with long hair like that, their hair is up 99% of the time bc it’s annoying, hot, and (personally) GRABS ONTO EVERYTHING LIKE ITS A THIRD HAND. I have a lot of headcannons for ash just based on small character designs / aspects that not a lot of people really think about. She’s so interesting and I really just love her. And since I have positives, I’ll give one negative about her. In the beginning, Ashlyn was really hesitant to tell the group anything. I understand where she was coming from, and given Tyler’s reaction, I don’t blame her for keeping things to herself. But mannnn ts was so frustrating sometimes. it’s ok tho bc all good stories stress you out.

AIDEN:

omg guys it’s my favorite ever. I know aidens really popular already so I’ll try not to rant on about him forever but hes just the best 😣 but mans really does not gaf EVERR.

now I could rant on and on about how silly Aiden is and why he’s so misunderstood as a character, because he’s not crazy like at all and if anything he’s one of the smartest characters in sbg, but I’ll save if for a better time. Instead I wanna talk about how observant he is of Ben and ashlyn.

it’s cropping weridly, sorry. but aiden’s eyes are always watching the ones he cares about most. I feel like this has to do with the fact Ben cannot voice his concerns/opinions so aiden always has to glance at him to make sure he’s not missing any important signal. But I also think it has to do with his childhood (I don’t have fast pass or anything this is just based off of theories/analysis based on his character bc I do that a lot 🤒). Anyways, he has a specific way of comforting people that I think it’s rlly niche. He uses his hands and gets the person what he thinks they need. Like in the attached images he gets ashlyn fabric to squeeze and distracts her with light conversation, and he immediately offers to take a walk with Ben and get some fresh air. If a person refuses or asks him for space, he immediately obeys and doesn’t question their decision. He’s very trusting and understanding. He gives people room to make mistakes and gives them room to ask for help. I’m mainly bringing this up because it ties back to something I’m gonna talk about in Taylor’s section. I just think that this detail is so important to his character and we always brush over it. I don’t wanna say he doesn’t like physical touch, bc he’s always touching everything around him, but I like to think his main love language is acts of service. When you really look at it, his actions speak a lot louder than his bickering and it really helps display how much each character means to him individually. what elseee. He’s able to quickly adjust and assess situations (like when he attacked the phantom or pulled up ashlyn in the bus). He’s very quick to his feet and always needs to be interacting with something to keep his hands busy. Aiden just really don’t gaf 99% of the time (unless it’s Ben / ashlyn) and honestly that’s why I like him. He doesn’t take anything seriously or personally. clap it up for my hb. Also I notice the sbg fandom has a habit of doing it with everyone, but I feel like Aiden is always reduced to his impulsive behaviors and ‘crazy kid’ persona. please guys. look deeper into Aiden Clark. Instead of wasting your energy trying to defend a NERDY FREAK like Logan fields, you should study more on Aiden Clark and his complex character.

TAYLOR:

okay now let me talk about my shnukums Taylor. I love her a lot but her and Tyler had very different childhoods regardless of the fact they were in the same situation.

We don’t know a lot about Taylor’s version of growing up, so a lot of the details are vague but everything I say is based off of observations and analyses I have personally made, so please take everything I say about Taylor’s backstory with a grain of salt and understand that no matter what, both twins were majorly affected by the passing of their father and illness of their mother.

At first i thought of Taylor was the more lucky one out of Tyler and Taylor when it came to their childhood. Yes she struggled, I knew that, but Tyler was under a lot of stress. But that’s when I realized that she suffered just as much. Although she didn’t need to sacrifice herself to help her family survive, like Tyler did, she went though the most loss. She lost her mother, father, and brother all overnight. One second they were all happy together and the next she was all alone. Physically, her mother and brother were still there, but they were both shells. Her mother isolated by grief and her brother isolated by responsibility. She was all alone. Yes Tyler did his best to support her, but at the end of the day, there wasn’t much he could do to change the situation. Taylor suffered a lot, and since people mostly focus on Tyler, we never really see Taylor’s POV of it all.

Now her backstory leads me into the fact Taylor is the most socially smart character in sbg. She is also the most observant and supportive. This is not to say others aren’t observant/supportive, like Aiden for an example, but she does it much differently. I would attach a picture here but I’m close to maxing out the photo limit and I want to save it for later.

Taylor is very good at reading the emotions of other characters. She is also very observant. Taylor is often the first to notice when a charater is uncomfortable, panicked, or harmed. For an example, she’s the first to notice Ashlyn’s fear back at the house. Unlike Aiden, Taylor is able to verbally let people know she is there for them. She comforts them through words and physical affection. Taylor is usually aware of how much support someone is in need of and the best way to display it for them specifically. For an example when Logan was getting bullied, she defended him against Tyler’s mean words and held his shoulder for reassurance. This same tactic would not work for ashlyn, and Taylor is aware of that. So, when ashlyn broke down about the struggles of being leader, Taylor comforted her through words and reassured her fears. Taylor opened up a space for ashlyn to be scared and share her burden. She was able to do all of this in only a couple of moments. This skills also becomes a werid quirk when she is able to sense Tyler’s condition in the hospital, but maybe that was just twin senses? 🤷‍♀️ idk

Taylor is also very aware of everyone around her. We know that she is very social and has a lot of friends and connections, but she also educates herself on the people she doesn’t interact with. Even if she doesn’t know a lot, she makes sure to acknowledge their presence at the very least.

What does her ability to read emotion have to do with her childhood? Well, Taylor basically lived with a shell of a family. Tyler was under constant stress, which made him prone to outbursts. Her mother was disabled by grief. Taylor was in a situation that made her feel like she had to take care of her family mentally. It was, to her, the least she could do. So, she was mentally mature from a very young age. Although having to hold the burdens of others constantly is very unhealthy, I’m not sure if she’ll crack because of it.

Taylor being very social and having a lot of friends is also another example of how she’s different from Tyler and how their shared childhood affected them differently. Tyler saw people as distractions while Taylor sees them as her means to keep living. Taylor lives off of other peoples energy, and she maintains the energy of other people by being a supportive beam for them. This is also why I’m okay with Taylor being shipped with others. She’s use to being around people and can form close bonds with others while still only viewing them as friends. Tyler cannot do the same. Taylor is in a position where she can expand her horizons into romantic relations if she was interested in doing so. That’s why I feel as though it’s okay (if that doesn’t make sense I’ll explain it again, but I tried to condense it down)

Something I don’t like about Taylor is that we haven’t gotten to see her brain in action yet. We know she’s the president of the robotics club , but we haven’t had the chance to see her charater support the story in any other way but socially and mentally. The story is only at 60 episodes though, and I’m sure we will see it eventually. Im just impatient and want to see women in STEM shine 😣😣 I wish I could talk about her more, but we barely know anything about Taylor as of right now. I will say it’s interesting how she told her and Tyler’s backstory, but only talked about how Tyler was affected and not herself. Interesting… I hope we learn more about her experiences and I hope I’m right 🙏 also CAN WE TAKE A MOMENT TO APPRECIATE HOW PRETTY SHE IS??? UGHH I LOVE HER SMM

TYLER:

I feel like Tyler has been the topic of discussion for the past couple of months because his backstory was revealed and the end of S1 / beginning of S2 was all about him and his past, so I don’t have a lot to say that I haven’t already said. but I do really like Tyler. At first when he was in his jock era I was very , oh! about him. but he’s actually warmed up to me sooooo much since then. he’s so goofy I just want more interactions between him and Aiden. I think I good place to start is how much I HATE people shipping him with other members of the main cast. I talked about it a little in Taylor’s section, but him and Taylor had very different childhoods. Again, I’m not saying their father’s death and mother’s illness was not hard on the both of them, but Tyler was under a lot of pressure too. We know he isolated himself harshly, and stopped having fun all together. The way I look at it, everything, including living day-to-day, became a chore for Tyler. Ever since he was a little kid. His dad’s death changed his entire world overnight. He had to learn how to physically and mentally support everyone important to him, because if he couldn’t no one else would. Tyler had to learn everything about living life by himself as a baby just so everyone else could survive. He stopped having fun. Little kids find fun in everything. Tyler stopped himself from finding it. He didn’t do anything for himself anymore. He was almost like a empty shell doing automatic tasks so that his sister and mother could have space to grow, heal, and live. In a sense, it was self sacrifice (which he attempts again when he tells the group to leave him behind)

So when Taylor tells us that the main cast started to become an extension of the family he sacrificed himself for, it’s so heavy on his character. Especially because for once in a long time he started relating his ‘family’ back to joy and fun, not just safety and survival. That’s why it bothers me when people ship him with others. It’s so werid to imply he’d date any of the main cast when he sees them as his family. consider them blood-siblings if you gotta, but just stop shipping them. PLEAASSSSEEEEEEEEEEE. otherwise I’ll eat your dog. thanks! also him being friends with the main cast at all is such a huge step for him. I don’t think Tyler has time to get involved with romantic relationships when he believes friends are a distraction. I know a lot of people go to romance when they want to express how strong a connection is between two characters, but you guys are forgetting that Tyler considering everyone as his friends is sooooo much more complex and deep compared to (for an example) Logan saying he considers everyone his friend. ANYWAYS ENOUGHHH!!! let’s move on.

I also wanna talk about this scene (I was to lazy to go find the original scene so the flashback is all you get). I never really realized how much ashlyn ordering Tyler around must’ve affected him. He literally spent his whole life making decisions and taking leadership and all of a sudden some random lil girl is over here telling him to stfu and sit his ass down. I would imagine as mad as he was, he probably felt a least a bit of relief. For once the responsibility wasn’t on him, at least not only on him. He could share his burden with others, and he wasn’t suffocated by being responsible for the lives of everyone else. We see this same struggle affect ashlyn, as she feels like being leader strangles her with the weight of guilt, paranoia, and responsibility. Imagine if Tyler had been the one to bare that weight after everything he’s already been through? he would’ve cracked, whether we like it or not. so let’s clap it up for ashlyn rq!!! yasss girl 😋 I know I’m rambling a lot about tyler but I know a lot about him and want to talkkk 😣 but here is my last point: Tyler’s coping mechanism to the unknown and things that confuse him is denial. Just like his mother 🤯🤯🤯🤯🤯

Tyler’s mom probably thought her husband’s illness wouldn’t kill him either. oops! 😂 (I’m going kms). sorry. my point is they both refused to believe it happened (although his mom’s denial may have been more of a trauma response while his was just to help him cope). Even with evidence, they both couldn’t understand what had happened to them and pretending nothing was wrong. Tyler saw the picture of the phantom’s shadow and brushed it off to technology he couldn’t understand yet. he felt more comfortable with not knowing how technology worked rather than not knowing if he was in danger. his mother is similar. She couldn’t understand and cope with the death of her husband, even though he died in front of her. She felt more comfortable not understanding why he was late from work than understanding he was dead and gone. Guess it runs in the family? 🤷‍♀️ and since these are all things I like about his character, I will tell you what I don’t like. THAT STUPID ASS JOCK ATTUIDE FROM S1. okay I didn’t hate it, and it fit him sometimes, and I kinda miss it sometimes, but he’s like 5’5 and a stick, he is not beating no one’s ass 😭 respectfully. now he could probably rock me but he’s matured a bit since S1 so it’s different. Tyler’s not even my favorite idk why I talked about him sm , especially when I held off on talking about Aiden because I didn’t want to say to much 🤦‍♀️ whatever

BEN:

I have a lot to say about Benny boy, especially because he is SOOOOOO mischaraterized. Now I won’t go crazy like I did for the twins because I’m thinking about making a separate post just about Ben (maybe.. maybe not idk). plus I just reminded myself anon asked me to just say a few things I like and disliked about each charater not give crazy long paragraph about them. so, sorry Ben but you will probably have the most boring paragraph of them all. I still love you a lot pookie 🙏 I’m just tired AND MAXED OUT THE AMOUNT OF PICS I CAN USE EVEN THO I NEED TO TALK ABOUT U WHILE USING PICS 🤒 anyways enough rambling.

bens charater is often reduced to his backstory which genuinely makes me want to start tweaking out. if you expand on why his trauma affects him, then I will happily listen to you talk. But when most the fandom sees Ben as “music boy who hate bully, will fight you if you be mean” it makes me so SAAAADDDDD. no, Ben will NOT beat my ass for making fun of Logan. That’s like… the whole point of his backstory? He doesn’t like violence, at all. He’s ashamed of his anger issues. He blames himself for having to move and putting his family in danger. The only reason he got involved with Logan’s fight was because the phantom interference + no one was there to help calm him down.

also he doesn’t only do music. he draws too! he’s a very artistic dude. He also gardens. Ben be planting food and shit. which (as much as I HATE the ship) Logan n Ben shippers could probably use to their advantage. Yk bc Ben gardens and Logan helps his grandparents in their greenhouse? wtv. Bens prob growing flowers for Taylor anyways. Fuck Logan. sorry.

Ben is also very compassionate and gentle. He’s always thinking about what’s best for the group, even if it puts him in an uncomfortable position, like sharing his trauma. Ben is also very soft hearted. He gets flustered very easily, we see this when ashlyn and Taylor complimented him. He is very protective over those he cares about and he does not come to play, ever. Also his character development from S1 makes me so happy. He use to be attached to Aiden’s hip 24/7 and we could often only understand his emotions when Aiden would translate him to us. But we’ve seen lately that he’s much closer to Taylor, even putting her safety before his own.

Have any of you seen the twitter post about the zombie flower rarepair!

I've been contemplating about a similar situation for jaydick. And since we already have an amazing fic of Jay writing Red Hood/Nightwing fics. I had a hard time figuring something until it hit me just now!

Dick and kori spilt up early after Dick leaves his home and base in Gotham.

Just peachy. Exactly what Dick needed after his Dad/mentor "fired" him and had a terrible fall out with him, who didn't hesitate to bring another boy home to take Dick's place and wear his mantle. Bruce carelessly giving him his family legacy.

It's good that Dick made up with Jason. The kid was good and he deserves good things to happen to him.

But Dick now is crestfallen of his break up with Kori. He so pathetically goes on the Internet searching of Nightwing x Starfire stories to read...

Dick discovers that his alias tag is not frequently shipped with Starfire, but rather filled with his other teammates and mostly with speedy... sometimes even with orgies with the whole Titans team.... thats is something for sure.

The fanfiction reading site does cheer him abit, if getting his mind of his horrible break up can count as cheering.

Dick stumbles upon the original characters x Nightwing tag, and there is one recognisable name out in the pages. Prejudice_Against_The_System88, this person has a great fanfiction collection of their original character "Red Cardinal" being romantically shipped with Nightwing. They also have some stories with Robin/Nightwing. Their stories varies but are mostly on in the R rated romantic genre. Their writing is good and promising for someone, who Dick assumes, based on the authors notes, in their high school year.

Dick actually enjoys the Red Cardinal/Nightwing fics mostly on the site. He starts leaving comments for the author. Appreciating their thoughtful writing of his character and their growing maturity of how they are dealing with Red Cardinal's feelings for Nightwing.

To say Dick becomes obsessed with CardinalWing (the ship name, as bestowed by himself upon the author) is an understatement. He becomes Prejudice_Against_The_System88's number one fan. Always commenting and engaging the author in discussion of each story they release, who in turn are so enthusiastic they sometimes slip up information of future chapters or stories they are working on.

Dick lives in a bliss of this hobby for great while. Until the author starts complaining of school tests and how their schedule won't allow them for more posting.

Their posting dwindles gradually until they fully stop for a month.... Dick gets worried that maybe the author is not feeling appreciated enough. ( he had read of that author who held their new chapters hostages In exchange for 50 comment on each chapter or something after all) luckily, his lovely Prejudice are not that kind of person. Still though, Dick miss their presence and making two other accounts to leaves comments just for them won't hurt him in anyway so he does. Maybe the additional engagement would lift them up again.

His two other accounts, does not engage well with the author who had disappeared now for two months.

Dick's real life is not fairing any better too...

He comes back to earth after a long mission in space to find that Jason has been murdered by the Joker and Bruce hadn't even bothered to tell him about that

Dick is devastated by that and his whole team are their by his side trying to comfort him, even poor kori is back by him holding him and being there for him.

Dick is so broken after that he fully immersed himself in his work and completely forgot about his teenage years hobby...

Now I don't know how to continue this?

Maybe Jason suddenly remember his account's password and log in to be blasted with tons of notifications of a time long gone with multiple people engaging all his stories that are left with no reply from him. It would warm his heart a bit but it would also make him so bitter of everything that he had been robbed of.

And would he complete his stories? I think yes!

He'd maybe update his account with a short fic of Red Cardinal coming back from the underworld as gag effect lol, he's not expecting people to interact with his work, especially after all these years. But who knows maybe there is someone out there who awaited his long sought-after return....

Marshall Merchandise Update... Kinda.

Okay, so... funny story. Do any of you remember that merchandise update I made near the beginning of the year? The one where I said my aunt found some items of Marshall, so she bought them for me as a Christmas gift? One was a plush of Mighty (Movie) Marshall, which I said I already owned, and the other was that cube plush of Charger from Rubble & Crew (she thought it was Marshall because of the red hat). Well...

As it turns out, I was wrong about something!

It's not the same plush after all! I mean, it's basically the same style, yet one's slightly smaller and has a plastic nose. I didn't realize it at the time, but placing them side-by-side, it's quite obvious now. Huh... I'm pretty sure these were released around the same time, so I wonder why they made two different versions? The left's from Walmart, while I think the other's from Meijer. How interesting...

While I'm here, I might as well show off a brand new item I found.

This is... er... dang, why do I have such bad luck with cameras? I keep saying I'll break down and buy myself a better one someday, and... well, I probably could, if I stopped buying so much merchandise of Marshall. Hang on, maybe if I turn the flash off, that'll...

...oh my. Alright, back to my $40 TracFone cellphone camera.

Well, that's... better. Still not the results I was hoping for, but it'll have to do. In any case, this is a brand new item I found recently at a Meijer. I suppose this is what we'll get from now on, instead of those True Metal vehicles? Admittedly, I thought "Pup Squad" was something specifically for The Mighty Movie, but I see the merchandise is carrying on with that branding. I don't think they've actually said pup squad in the TV series, unless it was mentioned somewhere in the Mighty Movie (I still haven't seen it, so I've no idea).

One last item, which is...

...a common Marshall figurine and his firetruck? Wait, don't I own one already? Ah, I do... but I found a bunch of these at a flea market for $2.50, so I thought it'd be fun to have one in its original, undamaged, unopened packaging! Admittedly, I was hoping it was one of the first toys of him released back in 2013, but the copyright info instead says it's from 2019. Ah well, it still looks rather nice!

Of course... it'll look much better without that big sticker. Geez, did they have to make it so big? Stickers like that tend to be difficult to remove, since they come apart so easy and leave sticky residue.

Thankfully, I was able to get it off just fine, due to taking my time and whatnot. It pretty much looks good as new now! Of course, now I just need to find a spot for it...

...Someday.

Oh, speaking of finding a spot for something...

My aunt recently gave me this small display case, and I thought about incorporating it somewhere in my collection. Perhaps I can use it to house some of my favorite and/or rare pieces of merchandise, like that hard-to-find Christmas ornament from 2016? It's kind of big, so I've no idea where I can put it yet, but I'll find a spot for it...

What'cha playing video game wise, Jaz?

Need to finish AC Valhalla but I'm having a hard time staying on track. I got Sigurd back and he's a bag of dicks and I knooooooow it ties into the story and I knoooooooow being a bag of dicks after being tortured for weeks (months? unclear how much time has passed) is a pretty normal trauma response but also. Currently he's a jerk and Eivor's dedication to him while he's being a jerk is admirable but I can't relate. The game is fun but the story right now is not particularly rewarding. I don't like doing a lot of work and bringing it to someone only for them to throw it in my face and tell me I'll never be good enough. So I don't really like where I am in the plot atm.

So instead of being mad at Sigurd all the time, I'm playing Harvestella and working on finishing that. Truly it did not deserve the wankfest made about it when it first came out. I will say having gotten much farther, it's less "final fantasy meets stardew valley" which I think set a lot of people up for expectations that would absolutely not be met. It's more "Nier series with some farming/gathering elements" and even makes more than a few heavyhanded Nier Automata references. People (myself included) saw SquareEnix on the cover and assumed Final Fantasy and I think that was overall detrimental to its reception because it's very not a FF game but it's probably as close to a Yoko Taro game as you can get without having him on staff. I've been a fan of his stuff since the original Drakengard so I'm fine with that but his stuff is *weird* and often weird in really unexpected ways, so if you're not expecting that out the gate it can be a pretty big shock.

I am still not sure if I want to actually play FFVII Evercrisis- I'm interested in the additions to the overall lore and plot and I like the convenience of having the full compilation in one easy-to-access location (including supposedly a few Japan-only entries I never actually got ahold of) but at the same time the demo was pretty micro-transation-y and as a general rule I hate gacha systems especially when they rely on real money to use. First Soldier was one thing because the gacha stuff was mostly cosmetic, and you didn't need the gacha weapons or armor to win (as evidenced by my wins having spent 0 money on anything). But the Evercrisis demo had gacha items needed for progression which means inevitabily I'm going to hit a wall and not be able to progress the story without spending money, and I hate games that do this.

Once I'm done with Valhalla it'll be Elden Ring (thanks @khayr !) and then FFVII Rebirth will probably be out by the time I'm done with it, which I'll play to death I'm sure. I still have to play Horizon Forbidden West (thanks follower whose URL I can't find again) and then go back and play the additional content I have for KH3, Ghost of Tsushima, and the new update stuff for Ghostwire Tokyo... as well as various switch games I need to just finish already... oh and the new Y's is coming out soon and at some point I need to snag FFXVI... and then there's AC Mirage whenever that releases plus I'm really looking forward to Red and Jade... and besides I have to go back and actually finish Origins and start Odessey (and black flag, and rogue, and unity...)

These are... not in any particular order of preference, I will just make question marks for a year if I try to sort them that way, so this is just the order I grabbed the links in. Which means newest to oldest.

1: Roots Grow Up - Naruto (Founders)

I still don't like the title, but I like basically everything else in this fic (including one detail I've decided on but not posted yet so... can't say). I am planning to add more, but the first chapter (which is all that's posted now) stands alone pretty well, since I wasn't sure whether I'd continue it at all when I first posted it.

The premise is that Kawarama didn't die, but instead lost his memory and has been living as a civilian farmer when Hashirama and Tobirama find him, a few years after founding Konoha. 0 people were prepared for this discovery.

Summary:

It's been fifteen years since Isamu was found, badly injured and unconscious in the forest. He woke up with amnesia, but his origin was pretty obvious, so he doesn't even miss the memories. It's been fifteen years. He's grown up, earned a place in the town that took him in, and even gotten married. His not-so-mysterious past doesn't matter. Not until shinobi wander into town, anyway.

2: Blessed Sacrifice AU - Naruto (Founders)

Cowritten with @codedredalert aka @denialcity, on hiatus while we both deal with Life, but there's a large and excellent chunk up already and so many cool things planned. So many!!!

Also, turns out I REALLY LIKE cowriting. Which is kind of old news because I've been doing forum RP for a decade+, but I wasn't sure if that would translate to fic. Turns out the answer is definitely yes.

BSAU is basically taking the "red eyes blessed" trope and digging into the like... worldbuilding repercussions of that, as shown through Izuna. And also crows.

Also comes with LOTS of fantastic art from Red!

Summary:

Mythology-religion freeform AU where Tobirama is considered blessed by the gods by the Uchiha, but they still need to deal with him as an enemy, so Izuna is ritually disowned from the Uchiha and given a special role responsible for protecting/fighting him.

3: Somebody Else's Dream - Girl Genius

Written as a gift for khilari! I can't remember what the exact prompt was, but I ended up writing an elaboration on the canon detail that Mechanicsburg was founded when a Heterodyne decided he wanted a town, so he just had his people build one.

The main character is an OC who was kidnapped to become a non-military member of the town, and the story is about how he ends up settling in. It's a very weird balance of a "finding your place in the world" story and "this is still kidnapping actually," and I don't think it would work in most fandoms, but since Girl Genius canon is a perpetual balance of heartwarming and "wow that is somehow worse than a war crime" already, I think it worked out really well, and I'm still very proud of it.

Also I suffered over the accents in this. But it worked!

Summary:

Faustus Heterodyne wants civilians for his newly built town. What the civilians want is generally different.

4: Jager Search - Girl Genius

Also written as a gift, this time for sparkagatha. It's the future, *vague handwave* everything is resolved, the OT3 are together and Klaus has accepted that he can leave Agatha alone and the revenants are being cured, happily ever after.

...except that some of the "wild" jagers are still missing. So Agatha sets out to find them.

Not much to say really; I can see spots where I'd write it differently if I wrote it now, but that's mostly things like "would have slightly changed the characterization," not big issues, and overall it still holds up very well for being... close to eight years old.

Summary:

Most of the detached jägers heard of the Heterodyne's return and came home, but a few are still missing. Agatha learns this, and decides to fix it.

5: Didn't Dream This - Death Note

Oh if I wrote this now tumblr would annihilate me. ~Problematic~ yay!

I'm not sure I'd say this is a good fic--if I was writing it now I'd write it so differently that it just would be a different fic--but I was clearly working out something about sexuality and relationships and the stuff (not) in my head that I've ended up labeling "being aro."

Basically: Mello and Matt are straight, and they decide to be together anyway. I'm glad I wrote it, partly because I know I wouldn't think or dare to write it now.

Summary:

Mello doesn't want to die alone. Solutions can exist without working out the way anyone wants. (Psychologically intimate interaction is really a better description than romance.)

I have been meaning to do this character introduction for a while, but I didn't like the way I had originally drawn him. Finally, I have updated his design and now I love him, so...

OC Introduction #3

(WIR Edition)

Say hello to Lord Lucas Chamoy-Amargo!

Attire:

A yellow-orange button up shirt, covered on the shoulders with chili powder. He wears a reflective dark red, slightly red-violetish vest made from the Lucas Gusano wrapper and suspenders made from Salsagheti strings and clipped on with Rebanaditas lollipop clips.

His slacks are a dark green, that goes all the way down into his cowboy boots. Designed into the sides of his boots are the faces of smiling ducks wearing sunglasses- a reference to the Lucas brand mascot [Does he have a name? Not as far as I know].

One final thing I'd like to point out is that Lucas' hair isn't made of hair: it is made out of the Pelon Pelo Rico soft tamarind candy! His hair gets really mushy when it's wet, hardens when it's cold, and it can melt onto itself on very hot days.

Bio and Backstory:

In the early days of development for Sugar Rush, the developers had wanted to add diversity to the kingdom by including race tracks to represent candies of the flavor origins, each with their own assigned racer. Fourteen year old Lord Lucas Chamoy-Amargo was meant to be the Lord of his own sour town, and a direct rival to Vanellope in lore! He is themed after Chili-powdered and tamarind flavored/pulp candies! His town was meant to be western-inspired, being placed just outside the boundaries of the Candy Savannah [the area where the Kart Bakery is at].

As Vanellope's rival, the developers had wanted to make him more challenging to players that were using the other racers. So they had set Lucas' CPU stats above those of the average Sugar Rush racer. This, however, made it to where Lucas can see and interact with videogame layers below what can actually be seen by players or other characters. This caused problems for the programmers since he'd often find himself getting infected by viruses, so in the end, they decided building Lucas' town wasn't worth it...

After Wreck-It Ralph:

Lucas' story is more in line with that of Theresa's After Wreck-It Ralph canon, since I had initially planned for Lucas to be the antagonist of a potentially cancelled Wreck-It Ralph sequel I wanted to write to replace RBTI in my universe [IDK, it might just be on hiatus, but I haven't been working on it]. He would have originally distrusted Vanellope so greatly that he'd team up with Turbo- who would have been hidden layers below the game due to Vanellope resetting the game before he could respawn.

Despite this sequel not happening, the story still goes that Vanellope in my canon had gotten bored with the same old and went into her game's Code Room after learning of other deleted content that could still be used. Lord Lucas' character was one of them, along with Theresa Truffla Treat. Lord Lucas was greatly confused by the amount of time that had passed, as well as why his town never became a reality. He was also confused by Sourbill's place in the kingdom, since Sourbill was originally meant to be his servant [Recall back to Theresa's bio when I said Sourbill replaced Theresa after they deleted her; that's because they already had Sourbill made as a servant for Lucas. Remove Lucas, you are left with a butler; Remove Theresa, you are left with a princess that needs a servant. Put the two ends together and you have Princess Vanellope and Sourbill]

Without a place to call home, Vanellope was kind enough to let Lucas stay at her castle for the time being- she wasn't using it that much anyways since she was always with Ralph. Eventually, the other townfolk came together to help build Lucas his town hall based on the developers' plans for his town in the Candy Savannah. Lucas oversaw everything, and in the end it came out just right!

Personality:

As a sour character, he is naturally very bitter and deadpanned in most of his interactions. He is also an impatient child, so he can quickly be aggravated. Additionally, because his theme includes chili-powder, he can also be very Hot-headed! When he gets angry, he gets ANGRY!!!

It is with his temper that he doesn't find himself having many friends amongst his fellow racers. For those that do try to get close to him though, they will find he actually can be tenderhearted. He is like a tamarind- although the candies and delicacies made from it are sour and/or spicy, the pulp itself is actually sweet.

Love Interest:

Lucas does eventually find himself a love interest in the land of Sugar Rush. Although the relationship was not immediately a success at first, he was able to patch things up with Jubileena Bing-Bing and found a partner in her!

In the Next-Gen, he settles down with Jubileena and has two children with her:

Sabrosita Chamoy-Bing-Bing and Cerecita Chamoy-Bing-Bing (Bios to be made soon)

It was no surprise to anyone when Bangchan destroyed the living room after one of your gangs' missions. Anyone besides Y/N of course, who was totally and completely oblivious to the feelings the leader felt towards her. She could hear the frustrated yelling from her room on the third floor as she changed into something more comfortable than the beautiful red dress she had on. A knock sounded on her door as she was hanging the dress.

"Come in." Though the man was already walking through the door. Y/N didn't need to look at him to know it was Leeknow, the second in command coming in for a debrief. He and Changbin were the only ones who stayed behind, watching coms.

"I'm here for-"

"The debrief, yes I know." Y/N cut him off. She sat in on the bed as he pulled up a chair. "I still don't understand why you do this because you see everything that goes on anyways." She thought out loud to him. Lee know gave her a hard glare but shrugged.

"I don't know either. Anyways, tell me what happened tonight."

Y/N crossed her legs, sitting cross-cross applesauce and grabbed a pillow to hug as she began her story.

Y/N walked up to the bouncer, showing her ID to him from her sparkly silver clutch. He eyes her, then the ID, before nodding to let her in. She made eye-contact with Bangchan, who was already sat a booth, before pinpointing where all the other members were. She found her target at the bar and walked over, sitting in the seat next to him. Ricky, tall, blonde, angelic looking Ricky. You never would have know he was apart of one of the nastiest gangs here in South Korea with how naturally sweet he was. But too much sweetness can make one sick.

"Well hello gorgeous, never seen you before." Ricky drawled, sipping his old fashioned. Y/N looked over to him and gave him a smile. "Hello, yes I'm just a tourist here, thought I'd try a new place." She shrugged before asking the bartender for a Shirley Temple. He set it down in front of her.

"Well I highly recommend here, so you chose well. You here with anyone?" The blonde next to her asked, taking a piece of her h/c hair in his hand and twisting it around his finger. Y/N internally gagged but forced a giggle.

"Actually no, thought I'd get out and see if I can meet anyone, since it's my last night here." She smiled and fluttered her eyelashes a bit. Her hand slowly reached towards a hair on his forehead that was misplaced, pushing it back. Ricky looked at her with hungry eyes.

"Well well well, how about I make your last night the best one of your life?" He said, jerking his head to the dance floor and holding out his hand. Y/N placed her hand in his and followed him to where couples danced against eachother. She started swaying her hips a bit to the slow beat as he held her waist. She placed her hands behind his head, bringing him closer. A little voice spoke in her ear.

"Now Y/N." She heard Han's voice crackle to life from her earpiece. Y/N spun to where her back was against his chest as she grinded on him, hastily grabbing the tracker from in between the folds on her dress. Ricky groaned in her ear as she pushed herself backwards onto him a bit before turning around and giving him a smirk.

"Anymore of that and you'll have to pay." Y/N teased, her arms wrapping around his neck again as she placed the tracker on his upper back. Ricky laughed, though she could notice he was now in an uncomfortable position by the tent in his jeans.

"Get out of there." A dark and brooding voice crackled to life in her ear again, this time it being Bangchan, though she didn't recognize it at first. Y/N pushed herself away from Ricky gently.

"I totally forgot about my drink! I paid for it, I should probably drink it and.... You should probably go take care of that." She pointed to his jeans and he flushed red a little.

"I'll come find you... when I'm done." Ricky chuckled, a little embarrassed. Y/N nodded. "I'll be waiting." She waved him off as he left for the restroom. She grabbed her clutch and paid for her drink before leaving through a side door. Slowly she walked to the black corvette down the street, getting in. All the members were there, looking at her wide-eyed. Y/N looked at them, confused.

"What?"

"After that, we came home and Chan decided to go destroy the living room for whatever reason, but you already know that of course." Y/N waved her hand as she watched Leeknow type out her side of the story. He finished up and shut it, pinching the bridge of his nose with his finger and thumb and sighed.

"I think you should go talk to him..." was all Leeknow said before leaving her room. Y/N shrugged, pulling on a chunky cardigan and walking out of her room. The sounds of yelling were gone, so she assumed Chan was in his room. She walked over to his hall and knocked on his door. She was met with silence so she knocked again. Y/N sighed.

"Channie I know you're in there. I want to make sure you're... ok. Can I please come in?" She waited for a second and then heard the door click open. A fluffy haired, exhausted looking Chan in his tight fitting tank top. He looked at Y/N with dead eyes. She stared up at him a bit before clearing her throat.

"May I come in?"

He walked away but left the door open for her, so she walked in and closed the door. He flopped onto his Texas king sized bed and sighed, looking away from her. Y/N walked over and sat down, slowly starting to lightly rake her nails along his back.

"Do you... wanna talk about it?" She asked, and he shook his head. Then he stopped and faced her, looking up at her with puppy eyes.

"I just.... Hated seeing you flirt with him." He said slowly, then hid his face in his pillow. She brought her nails to the nape of his neck and started scratching the back of his head lightly.

"You... did?" Y/N asked. Chan nodded before looking at her again.

"And I didn't like him touching you. Or flirting with you. And I especially didn't like when you guys... danced." He sighed, burying his face into the pillow again. She stopped the scratches and stared at him for a second.

Was he... jealous?

Y/N started giggling and Chan looked up at her appalled.

"Are you laughing at me?!" He asked, shocked. She nodded. Chan sat up and grabbed Y/N by the waist, placing her laying down on his bed and tickling her sides. She gasped, the giggling now painful.

"Chan no!!!! Stop!!" Y/N tried to pry his finger from her sides, but to no avail. He eventually stopped, looking down at her. She smiled up at him as she caught her breath.

"That was mean." She gasped out. He smiled down at her.

"I love you."

Y/N looked up at him in shock, the roles now reversed. Chan was still above her, looking at her seriously.

"I love you." He repeated. "Tonight showed me how much I want you to be mine, that you shouldn't touch any other man like that, talk to no other man like that, nothing. That should be me. So... will you please?" He asked, looking down at Y/N. She felt like she could hardly breathe.

"I didn't know you felt the same way..." she whispered before nodding. "Yes I want to be yours. I love you too." She smiled before wrapping her arms behind his neck and pulling him down to her, placing her lips on his. Chan smiled into the kiss, returning the passion. It got to the point where they both couldn't breathe so they pulled away. It was that moment the door flew open to an angry Jeongin.

"Chan I'm not cleaning up your mess- OH!" He screamed, covering his eyes. Of course his scream brought all the other members who looked inside and also covered their eyes.

"Does this mean you guys are finally together." Changbin whined. Y/N had sat up and giggled.

"Yes Binnie~" she smiled, looking at Chan. He wrapped an arm around her waist.

"Guess that makes you their mother, will you be able to take it?" He asked. Y/N laughed.

"What do you mean? I always have been." She smiled.

Just heard about Loic Serra who was a mercedes engineer and friend of lewis and is arriving in Ferrari in 2025 to work on the 2026 car.

This makes me think the development and updates of the 2026 will be more tailored to lewis preferences

It's actually the other way around—Fred reportedly poached Loic Serra around July, likely capitalizing on the technical staff musical chairs going on at Mercedes. But you're right in the sense that it's reported his move to Ferrari was at least one of the factors that contributed to Lewis's own decision to move.

Basically Serra disagreed with the direction Mike Elliott (technical director) was taking with the 2022 and 2023 cars. Lewis sided with Loic on the issue. Not that I followed the Mercedes internal drama all that closely (we had plenty of our own issues in 2022) but seems like Lewis wasn't happy that they weren't taking his feedback into consideration and rectifying the problems they had flagged, still rocking up to pre-season testing in 2023 running the same flawed concept because they just couldn't admit they'd fucked up and still thought they could make it work.

When it became obvious that it wouldn't, they panicked and pulled James Allison out of his boat building side quest to put him back on F1 project as technical director. I think they dropped the zero sidepods thing around Monaco last year and have been trying to right the ship ever since. Apparently Allison actually wanted Serra to stay on and keep working with him, but Serra had already committed to Ferrari at that point. Mike Elliott was made chief technical officer for a while after Allison came back, then walked away from Mercedes entirely around late October after producing two flop car concepts basically sdjfgk

Funnily enough Fred was supposedly intending to negotiate with Toto regarding Serra and I believe he got him to agree to an earlier release—Serra's still on gardening leave, but is reportedly set to start working for Ferrari as early as mid/end of this year, rather than January 2025 as was originally intended. So I guess in that way Toto got played twice, first with Serra's earlier release and now Lewis ajsdfkg I guess he was so focused on catching Red Bull that he didn't consider Ferrari to be an immediate threat. I'm sure he'll be much less cooperative this year should anything like that come up, but maybe Fred/Ferrari already got what it wanted and won't need him to be.

With Serra potentially coming in already this year, I think it's safe to assume whatever contribution he makes to the 2025 car will primarily benefit Charles, as they have his feedback, preferences, data, etc. to work with. They already know in advance that Carlos is on the way out so his preferences are no longer a concern for next year. So I'm confident about the 2025 car being essentially tailored to Charles's strengths—at least the "straight out of the box" version of it. We've seen how mid-season upgrades can completely ruin a solid base (F1-75)—or, conversely, how they can turn things around, like with the SF-23 Japan upgrade.

2026 (and beyond) are obviously a whole other story. There's just way too many unknowns to make any predictions just yet (Lewis's presence/feedback/impact, the fact that it's a whole new regulation era.) But yeah, those are my thoughts re: Loic Serra.

AHHHH it always makes me so happy when people enjoy my work, especially when it comes to Ruggie! He's a character I really enjoy writing, so I'm happy you enjoy how I write him!

I actually have two stories planned for him coming up, one for Valentine's Day and one that my anon 🎀 gave me inspiration for! It's gonna be an established relationship Ruggie x Reader story about Ruggie having freckles and the Reader noticing them for the first time! It'll be short compared to most of my works but I hope you enjoy it none the less!

I've always had an interest in Hypnosis Mic ever since I found out about them when Dotsuitare Hompo and BAT first debut (thanks to the song Osaka Dreamin' Night actually!) I just LOVE the music so much, and how all the groups/characters have different rap styles! I myself am a big BAT fan (especially Hitoya and Kuko!), but I also really like Fling Posse and recently noticed how much I like Matenro (Hifumi's solo songs are so good! ....and I have a soft spot for Doppo ♡)

I recently started playing the mobile game (Hypmic ARB) and it's SO MUCH FUN! If you're able to play (since I know it's region locked!) I highly recommend it!

I'm so glad to see Syo getting more love! I now know two people who are Syo fans, which is great! It's funny cause originally I was gonna make my banner Kuko's second anniversary card, but then I decided to go with Masato cause I love the sanrio cards from Shining Live! I had already made the Kuko banner too, and it would have looked like this:

But I know what you mean! Utapri as a series has always been such a HUGE comfort for me, and I regularly listen to Masato's and Natsuki's solo CD's (as they're my faves in Utapri!) It's got to be one of my favorites series, and it will always hold a special place in my heart! Syo's backstory is honestly so inspiring, with his heart condition and how hard he worked to get where he's at!

Osaka Dreamin’ Night is so fire omg have you heard the drinking song? Naniwa… Something..? NANIWA PARADISE SAKE!!! There’s a bar with Rosho where he’s shitfaced and Rei kindly raps along about how you should not drink and drive haha. It’s super dope and it shot super high on my list of HypMic songs I love. I do play HypMic ARB! I actually had it on BlueStacks and then I couldn’t get it to update to retrieve my login so… I had to start from scratch and I got it on my phone! I was kinda sad since I actually had a ton of Jyushi cards and he was my first SSR but hey… That’s life…

And unfortunately I am a massive cornball… I LOVE BUSTER BROS!! Part of it is the fact their team color is red and I love red but Ichiro… His big stupid pants and the fact in almost every canon photo of him you can see the black waistband of his underwear. He’s doing it on purpose… He’s sending me signals. I need to Break the Wall… I’m also a huge Kuko fan too which is funny cause Ichiro and Kuko used to be besties in Naughty Busters!!

Oh my gosh the Sanrio Shining Live cards I’m so jelly that EN shut down before I could get them aughhh Syo and Tuxedo Sam is such a cute combo and I saw Natsuki had Wish Me Mell(?) which was honestly so cute? Otoya and Pochaco is an amazing pairing ahhh very amazing choice for Masato’s Sanrio card it’s such a cute banner ahah. A Kuko banner ready for when and if you decide to change your theme… Become purple… Or stay pink???!?!??!?? I think it’s cute!! Slap him on there anyways!! I wanted to do this because I saw someone do it with the Twst boys and I thought it would be nice to write about HypMic characters peeling an orange for you. It really is a personality test to see them as a partner or someone who is supposed to care about you. Would they do something so minor as to peel your orange for you? Because most of them are my favorite: I say yes because this is my mind palace and they are not like horrible irl men. They are on paper and they are nice to girls. Me, I am girls. You, you are girls.

I usually am a smut author but I LOVE PWP. I need story before I get to the ‘meat’ of my fics that I write. And Kuko is a violent person anyway, I don’t think outings with him last long. If someone sneezed on you he would probably shove his fingers up their nose until he reached their brain stem. But that’s part of what makes him attractive… He cares in his own terrifying way! Sex the monk! And I have been wanting to write smut for Kuko since I tested the waters with Samatoki and just a few days ago I was whining in my server because Kuko is a monk right?

Now, I didn’t process the fact that Kuko has a dad. Like… He has a biological father who is a monk. He is the heir to his temple. That completely vanished from my mind as I went to a channel and ‘boo hoo’d with attractive pictures of Kuko about how he is inedible to my carnal desires. And then I was grabbed by the throat by a friend and they said ‘uh… Japanese monks aren’t the same as other monks’ and I looked it up… THEY CAN GET NASTY. YOU CAN SEX KUKO AND IT WONT RUIN HIS LIFE AS A MONK!!!!!! Sorta. I still feel a little guilty about trying to do it…

I feel a little worried sharing this one hehe!~! I do have Hitoya high on my list of faves because I too love making money it’s my favorite past time. He’s like that hot older man you’re too shy to put the moves on but it’s slowly getting more and more obvious he sees you as a proper adult… Don’t be afraid of that age gap. He’s hot and has old dude wisdom and experience. Also I can’t stop thinking about in soul switch when Jakurai proved he wasn’t Kuko by saying: “Remember in middle school when you randomly got up during class and moonwalked and everyone called you Amaguni Moon for the rest of the school year? That was cool!” And Hitoya is embarrassed… It wasn’t cringe… Jakurai thought it was sick. Be yourself pimp.

I have more wips but they’re super rough so I’m hiding them still! Thank you for coming to chat with me again wahahhhhh you’re super sweet!! <3 <3 <3

Toby as Nightwing: Nah. You know what woulda been funny though? Toby as ye olde Golden Age Flash with the metal helmet. It'd be like his bell!

Thomas as Batman: No.

Victor as Superboy: No. Superboy is about looking up to a guy who you know you are meant to be like but coming up short on matching his abilities, and having to deal with what that means about your place in the world. Clearly a character meant for James. Superboy's color scheme is even First Day in the Yard James.

If you want red and black for Victor, El Diablo would be cool.

Gator as Swamp Thing: As obvious as Killer Croc was but okay.

Dash as Black Lightning: Not by a long shot! Black Lightning is responsible and has his shit together. Bash and Dash woulda been really cute as Más y Menos.

Toby as Blue Beetle: Yes if this were Ted Cord, but the face markings indicate that this Jaime Reyes so no. But I LOVE this livery on him! It's cashy as fuck.

Thomas as 52 Batman: Even more no than the other times I said no to Thomas as Batman.

Rosie as Star Sapphire: No. Star Sapphire is... complicated but I can't think of a single version of her that makes sense for Rosie. Good matches for Rosie are Supergirl, Wonder Girl, Stargirl, and Miss Martian.

Henry as Batman Beyond: Wow, no, but you know what? Sonny would be good for this version of Batman. Street hoodlum on a redemption arc? He wasn't around yet for this, but I'm tellin' you how it is.

Bash as Booster Gold: Okay, I think what they were going for were sort of similar liveries for Bash and Dash and while Booster Gold is far more appropriate to these guys than Black fkn Lightning is, you know who Booster Gold is really good for? Thomas. Booster Gold's deal is he's a glory-seeker who came from the future to become a superhero in the past using his future technology, but because he isn't acting out of pure good will, he often gets overshadowed by more just heroes. Also he and Thomas have the same color schemes. The blue's been tealed down a bit here for Bash.

James as Krypton Armor Superman: Okay, I actually had to research this one 'cause it's a New 52 thing and most of my DC knowledge comes from TV shows. Anyway, the deal with this is, Superman is normally invulnerable on Earth because of its yellow sun and so he does not need armor. On his home planet, the sun was red so no one had super powers and so if they were gonna get into fights, they had Krypton Armor. So it follows that if Superman goes to any other planet without a yellow sun, he needs armor because his powers are diminished. At least in the New 52. That's a thing that gets handwaved unless the story's too good normally. Anyway, that's kinda cool for James, since his paintjob is a sort of personality armor.

Emily as Wonder Woman: No.

Rosie as Starfire: Yeah! There you go! Now you're cookin' with butter.

Toby as Blue Beetle: No, but it looks so goddamn good on him!

Henry as Green Arrow: You know what? I didn't actually say if I thought Green Arrow was an appropriate character for Henry. The thing about Green Arrow is, he's kinda like Batman in that he's just a regular guy with a lot of money, but unlike Batman he's friendly and personable. The main thing about him, though, is that he tends to be characterized as a bleeding heart type who fights not only regular crime, but oppression from other rich guys and the military and shit like that. I don't recall this ever translating into treehugging, but I could see that kind of plot for him. Anyway, Green Arrow isn't perfect for Henry, but I can see some logic there.

James as Brainiac: loul no. Not to say that James isn't capable of some rat-fuck connivery, but that's actually not Brainiac's style. He's more of a 9D chess kinda guy.

Percy as Reverse Flash: I originally thought this was James and I already said I liked Flash for James, but Reverse Flash is quite good in respect to James' bullshit with Duck. But this is, in fact, Percy and I don't think this is him at all, but I do like that he's at least been given a character that isn't a sidekick to a character Thomas has. And Percy as a villain... now there's an idea that could bear more exploration. Kinda like that episode with Bulgy where he daydreams that Percy is the one keeping him and the roadways down? Percy as a villain is so fuckin' funny.

Belle as Raven: No. There's another match for Belle coming up and I think it's perfect. As for Raven... maybe late-game Mavis who's not so full of her own ideas anymore and takes shit more seriously?

Emily as Poison Ivy: No, I'm tellin' you, Poison Ivy is Daisy.

Hiro as Bane: No. Ryan might be fun as Bane. 'Cause of the pipes and all. As for Hiro, if you want to make him a villain, maybe Ra's al Ghul? Or Vandal Savage. You know, guys who live for fucking ever. If you want to not do that, you could make him Martian Manhunter, who's also a million years old, wise as all hell, and who in at least one continuity took up a secret identity as a normal man in an Asian country.

Belle as Batgirl: This isn't the perfect match for Belle, but yeah, I could see this. Might also work for Emily.

Gordon as Darkseid: Goddamn, what did Gordon ever do to you, Fisher-Price? Darkseid is one of the biggest bads there are. Gordon's kind of a dick a lot of the time, but he's not that bad. That bein' said, if you want to make him a big bad, I think he'd look real handsome as the Anti-Monitor. Otherwise, I think he'd ought to be Superman. He's biggest and best and a member of the press.

Luke as Beast Boy: Yes. Perfect.

Ferdinand as Martian Manhunter: Nope. For real. Lobo. It'd be fun!

Belle as Big Barda: There she is! Perfect, beautiful, love that for her.

Gordon as Azrael Batman: Man, here's a dark-ass take too, goddamn. What do they got against Gordon? Suffice to say, no, I don't think insane assassin taking up the mantle of Batman is right for ol' Gordo. Although, Azrael was a test-tube baby which is kinda like being a prototype. All the same, no.

Henry as Green Arrow: Yeah, all right.

Millie as Harley Quinn: No, Rebecca.

Diesel 10 as The Joker: No, Lex Luthor.

Hiro as Steel Superman: Okay, so Steel Superman (just Steel) was a guy who tried to become Superman after actual Superman died. Had a metal Superman suit, kinda like Metal Cap Mario but it's Superman. Except it's not Superman, it's a guy dressed as Superman if Superman wore a metal suit because regular Superman is dead. Yeah, it's confusing. Howeveur, apart from being Metal-skin Supeman, Steel's also railway themed! His secret identity is John Henry Irons and he carries a sledgehammer and has wrist-mounted rivet guns. Is it perfect for Hiro? No, but I'm kinda into it!

Porter as Captain Cold: Okay enough but I'm still tickled about him being Hourman for the sand.

Percy as Red Tornado: I like Red Tornado way more for Victor, but I don't hate this. It's not right for Percy though. Let's see. Static maybe, if we're bein' serious. Long Shadow would be a fun joke since Percy's short and small. Lagoon Boy if we want to be mean.

Stanley as Black Hand: Uh, in a really tenuous way, you might say that Thomas interpreting Stanley's arrival as a threat to his position is sorta like Black Hand stealing Green Lantern ring energy. But I wouldn't. I think he'd look quite handsome as Aztek.

Gordon as Darkseid: No.

Paxton as Lex Luthor: No, Diesel 10.

Luke as Beast Boy: Yes!

Edward as Arctic Batman: No, but that's a cute livery.

Sidney as Mister Miracle: No. If anyone should be Mister Miracle, a magician specializing in escape artistry, I think it should be Oliver.

Diesel as Captain Boomerang: Love it 'cause Diesel's bullshit always comes back around to him, don't it?

Diesel 10 as Deadshot: You know what? At first glace I was like "no", but actually, I'm like "yeah". 'Cause see, on the one hand, Deadshot is an impeccable marksman whereas Diesel 10 can hardly control his hydraulic arm at all, such that he gave it a name and treats it as if it has a mind of its own. On the other hand, Deadshot is a tactical genius and (ignoring The Magic Railroad) Diesel 10 is too. For a train, anyway. Deadshot is also a demolitions expert and Diesel 10 once inadvertently set the Dieselworks on fire. Overall, yeah, I like this match for its irreverent play on parallel.

Millie as Bumblebee: Yyyyyeah, okay. Millie is one of the more capable trains (it's why she's in charge of the Estate Railway) and she has a similar sensibility to Bumblebee. Not completely deadpan, able to joke and have fun, but takes the job seriously.

Thomas as Superman: Nope.

Bert as Shazam!: They gave 'Arry Shazam the year previous, but I'm really thinking Phillip would be the best Shazam. Phillip might not have been on the show yet, but he's perfect for Shazam. As for Bert, since I suggested Metallo for 'Arry, how about a wild card match: Steel. Those two fought once and they're both metal-themed. If we're disregarding matched pairs, I think one or the other of them would also make a good Orion.

James as Flash: Yes, perfect.

Skarloey as Arsenal: I want to say no, but there is a little bit there maybe. Skarloey gettin' his extra wheels and new cab is a little like Arsenal getting his hotshit robot arm. And Arsenal is kind of a dickhead for a while while he gets over hisself. I don't know if Arsenal is who I'd pick for Skarloey, but there's at least a tenuous logic.

Victor as Hawkman: No, make my boy Red Tornado!

Scruff as Armor Batman: Nnnnno, I don't think so. Still voting that Scruff would make a cute Creeper.

Ferdinand as Mr. Freeze: Actually, I wouldn't say no to Porter as Mr. Freeze. That'd be quite apt. But I maintain, Ferdinand oughta be Lobo.

Charlie as the Riddler: Yes!

Emily as Vixen: No. Nia would make a fun Vixen because the thing about Vixen is she has animal powers, but she's actually never been in the jungle and has no survivalist knowledge at all. She's a fashion model and lives in a loft in Chelsea.

Salty as Clark Kent: I have a tenuous thought about this which is, Salty is always tellin' his yarns and these dumbass trains believe him which is quite similar to Superman putting on a pair of glasses and telling people he's not Superman and they believe him too. So yeah, all right.

In this set of issues, we see fun crumbs of upcoming stuff, a very interesting mystery plot (if you're reading 127-128 for the first time, do try to solve it!), and secret lesbians (maybe, nobody's sure).

That's a mood whiplash if I see one.

This batch begins with the totally not-goofy-nor-lame Kangaroo, who this time has SUPER-POWERS (the cover says so)!

Some producers ask Spidey to star in an ad, and if you're an old-time reader you'll remember something similar happened before and didn't go so well. He's not tempted either. Meanwhile, the Kangaroo (who last appeared ish 81) meets up with Jonas Harrow (who we saw in 114, he's the one who experimented on Hammerhead).

On campus, Professor Warren pops up to tell the readers that he's totally not about to become an important character, and Peter is an ass to MJ and Flash. Oh, what else is new!

Our dear old Jonas is clueless because as soon as the Kangaroo gets powers, he leaves to deal with Spidey instead of listening to him.

Spidey accepts to do the car ad and requires Johnny Storm's help. I always thought he had the pose of a naked anime girl in any opening ever. I'm curious about the new costume, though. I wonder when it came to pass... Oh, but the Internet has the answer! "From 1973 to 1975, Johnny incorporated a red uniform into his wardrobe in an homage to the original Silver Age Human Torch." And I get more information here: "As a child, Johnny Storm had read comic books about the World War II Human Torch and idolized him. After gaining similar powers and taking his name, Johnny decided for a short time that he would take on a costume similar to that of his android hero."

As shown in the preview of this post, while Spidey's about to discover the greatest invention of last century, Jonah's son is hanging on (continuity, nice!).

So the Kangaroo dies by radiation, anyway. It would be tragic if the character wasn't such a buffoon.

And MJ tries her best, as usual, but Harry ignores her...

Because he's too busy pretending his father's contempt for him was ever worth anything. Anyway, I love how those boots are drawn.

Classic Sunset Spidey!!!

In the readers' letters, we get a very interesting (and funny in hindsight) comment from the writers.

I can finally feel than the bigger number of pages is great. The story's allowed to breathe, we both get a lot of fight AND some drama. It's good!

That's kind of an iconic cover! The questions (although we already know for Harry...), MJ's wild outfit (her pants!!!)... It's a great cover.

In this issue, Peter looks a bit too much like an 80s rugged hunk to my taste.

Okay Mr. Schwarzenegger. Whatever you say.

So Peter keeps being an ass, almost to an absurd degree. Boy, you need to learn empathy and compassion. I do appreciate a good undressing though so keep going please.

The Vulture is the murderer but Peter's wet dreams about Johnny Storm are much more interesting to me.

Because things aren't getting better any time soon on the Parksborn front, you know.

Peter gets him and Flash into an accident because he's a menace (it's actually because the Vulture just took MJ away) and thus, the Flash whump continues (I'm into that!).

The hero and the villain fight, Spidey saves MJ, they get in a lab...

Those panels of Harry wishing Spidey's death have stayed in my mind ever since I saw them the first time. Incredibly striking, and exciting for the reader who can't help but want a fight between these two--for the Green Goblin remains a delightful villain, even with Harry's traits.

Anyway, I was checking a certain website to see reactions (because comicdom is so sparse that it's hard to see reactions to specific issues)...

The next and last issue of this batch (128) opens with Spidey falling from the sky, too high to shoot webs at a building. Once again, incredibly iconic.

Also, welcome to 1974! What a way to start the year. The last year I've read fully! But I read a whole bunch of 1975 so we'll see what new material we get there...

So Spidey gets out of the predicament in the usual fashion (if you can't swing, web up a hammoc) and goes back to the lab where the shadiest character design I've ever seen in this magazine also coincidentally is there.

They keep mentioning coke, which wasn't the case when "Stan Lee" (and whoever else helped...) wrote the lines.

So are they lesbians or twins? Or both? You decide, Pete.

Ned Leeds hasn't had a role for a while (just you wait, honey) but he's sure looking like a stud right there.

Peter is still being an ass to MJ.

And Spidey eventually susses out everything and tells all, like Professor Layton would. This is actually quite an experimental story, given than the reveal that Dr Shallot is the new Vulture is just as bonkers as me just revealing this that way.

I had completely forgotten about everything, but goddamn, what an interesting set of issues. I'd say the plotting is masterful because the magazine really never expects its readers to be that smart. Hmm.

(I was convinced the victim was her twin though... What's up with them swapping outfits? Was that intentional, on whose part? Since they're not twins, I will assume lesbians.)

Lightyear of Two Worlds Part 2 of 2: Lightyear: The Toy Story that Shoudln't of Been a Toy's Story. (Comissoned by WeirdKev27)

Hello all you happy space rangers and welcome back to Lightyear of Two Worlds, my look at Disney's two very different attempts at defictionalizing the media that lead to the Buzz Lightyear toyline in the world of toy story.

Last week we looked at the pilot for Buzz Lightyear of Star Command, which is awesome and it's absence from Disney+ continues to be one of the biggest examples of Disney Logic I have ever seen, keeping a series off the platform to honor the wishes of Sexual Harassment John Lassiter, who they fired for said harassment and whose now bafflingly working at competition because someone was stupid and selfish enough to hire him.

So with Pixar actively trying to forget BLOSC despite being a critical and commercial hit loved by many, it does make sense they'd take another stab at it and that stab is really why we're here: Lightyear, the latest Pixar Film at the time, their first theatrical release since Covid… and the first since Soul to not be warmly received, ending Pixar's hot streak it was on.

As you can guess this was far from their most popular film: Toy Story fans dislike it for not really fitting at all as the movie the Buzz Lightyear Toyline came from, replacing the beloved BLOSC, and being yet another mediocre addition to the franchise after the divisive Toy Story 4 aka the only toy story film I haven't seen at the time of this review out of sheer disinterest. And you have to work pretty hard to not make me want to watch a film with Keanu Reeves, Annie Pots, Christina Hendricks, Kegan Micheal Key, and Jordan Peele all in one place. Just saying. General fans didn't like it for assuming it was an attempt to MCUify Toy Story and start a new cinematic universe, which it wasn't any of those things, and fans of Soul, Luca and Turning Red were livid that none of these films got a theatrical release but THIS did. And…

Soul at least got a huge Christmas Day release, competing directly with the highly disappointing and previously reviewed Wonder Woman 84, and giving families something to watch on Christmas, giving it the closest to a theatrical release Disney could mid-pandemic and doing so for both smart commercial and genuinely kind reasons. Luca and Turning Red… both just kinda got released because the pandemic was still very bad for Children and was having a new wave and could've simply been delayed so those are less understandable. Turning Red especially given it clearly wasn't to keep Lightyear in it's place and what i've seen of it is excellent and I intend to finish it, I just made the mistake of trying to watch it while very tired already and felt it deserved my full attention and energy. And the more I unpacked all of this as I prepared to watch the film, watched the film and tried to write this review MULTIPLE times but Tumblr done ate it, the more intresting things became and the more I was excited to cover it. Lightyear may not be pixar's best film, but it's a throughly intresting one to unpack both for what it does right, where it failed, and where Disney and the films own director failed it. So join me to infinity and beyond as I take this verison of buzz otu of the package and see what works and what needs to be sent back to the factory for repairs.

What Does That Mean I Ask You? Before we can get into the actual film we have to get into it's marketing.. which is one of the things I felt hurt it the most. For starters while the first trailer is majestic as hell, showing off the film's gorgeous animation and using one of my favorite songs from the Late, Great David Bowie, Starman, in one of the best ways i've seen, it was also maddeningly vague, as was the films marketing marketing it as "not a prequel but the origin of the REAL Buzz Lightyear that inspired the toy"

It was a question everyone has as what it actually was in relation to Toy Story, an alternate universe, a reboot, a cabin in the alps, was VERY unclear and no one could give a straight answer. And in hindsight… there is NO reason they couldn't have. The film is meant to be the in universe film, the first of a trilogy at least in the Toy Story Universe, that inspired the Buzz Lightyear toyline, the movie that Andy loved enough to want a Buzz Lightyear figure more than anything. I will NEVER get why simply saying that was so difficult for the film's crew and Chris Evans himself. I mean in the real world it's basically a reboot of Buzz as an actual space ranger and not a living toy, and in fiction it's a movie. That's all you had to say. I managed to lay it out in a sentence. The film itself lays it out in the opening text: In 1995, a boy named Andy got a Buzz Lightyear toy for his birthday. It was from his favorite movie. This is that movie. Were they trying to hide that to avoid controversy, trying to build up mystery, trying to use it as part of a complicated heist?

It's some of the dumbest marketing i've seen… and just yesterday I found out the cover to the Plesantville soundtrack is this

Which is somehow less confusing than this choice. You had the perfect, simple explination of it, the perfect marketing line IN THE FILM ITSELF. WHY DID YOU TAKE SO LONG TO USE IT

This is Disney Logic at it's purest: not doing the obvious things for reasons only known to the unkonwable cosmic entity that lives in the disney boardroom and makes most of their decisions lest descenters be sent into the void. It's understandable people weren't really excited about the film when the marketing was confusing. You can be vauge about something and still get people hyped, Jordan Peele is a master at this, keeping his movies tight lipped since their built on sizeable twists and suspense, but this was trying to do that and instead steping of a field of rakes. And speaking of stepping on a filed of rakes let's talk about this being the in universe film that inspired the Buzz Lightyear Toyline shall we?

This FIlm Makes No Goddamn Sense as a Film In the Toy Story Universe I could leave it at the title but this is something that utterly baffled me and continues to. While Lightyear works okay as a film, as THE film that inspired the Buzz Toyline and, according to it's director, BLOSC, it is laughably nonsensical. Not as much as the films marketing but stil VERY close. I knew from just from research that this was going to need it's own section.

See the IDEA of making Buzz a movie instead of a tv show isn't bad. The director, Angus Maclane described it as "What if we made the movie that inspired the Buzz Lightyear Toy and made it awesome". And for all the faults with the film Maclane wasn't a bad choice: This isn't his first time with Toy Story having directed my personal faviorite of the Post Toy Story 3 shorts, Small Fry, in which a happy meal toy of buzz ties up our buzz and tries to replace him. The sheer hilarity of this tiny big headed toy trying to swagger in while no one remotely buys it (and only fake it so they can go find the real buzz), while Buzz is forced to deal with a support group for abandoned toys is amazing and still one of my faviorite toy story things. Angus also directed Toy Story of Terror, an excellent special. He knew the franchise and clearly does love it, to the point that despite the frequent burials of star command it not only inspired the film a bit, but he still treid to fit it into the verse when he didn't really have to nor Disney didn't care if it lived or died. It dosen't quite work in that regard and i'll get to that, but he still tried.

The idea is good, and honestly Buzz , while making a tiny bit more sense as a tie in to a tv show, still makes perfect sense as a movie tie in: the 90's were RIFE with movie toylines, to the point the lost in space movie i'm sure 80% of you didn't even know existed and which somehow shares a plot point with this movie had a MASSIVE toyline, one I almost forgot happened till I stumbled across one in package at a thrift store. They would give any movie a toyline and given Angus says the LIghtyear film got two sequels to make it a trilogy, and that Star Wars had a big toyline in the 90's to go with the relreases, it did make sense.

The problem is despite Angus saying that was the idea… Lightyear never REMOTELY comes off as the kind of movie that would've promoted the toys we see in the Toy Story movies. Lightyear.. isn't a star wars or star trek style space opera.. it's a hard sci fi story about guilt, lost time, and moving on. It's a pretty great story, one i'll get into the meat of soon enough, but it's not the kind of cheesy but still damn cool space opera like Star Wars or Star Trek that Buzz was clearly supposed to be, nor that kids would buy the merch for.

As my good friend Jess said as we watched this as I needed a copilot, this makes more sense as an in universe reboot of the Buzz Lightyear franchise than the original film. And I agree. It would've still kept what they were going for but worked much better. Out of universe.. this film IS a reboot and clearly trying to take a goofy property dead seriously. It fits more with modern sensibilities and is written and designed that way. If they wanted to make a reboot or make a cheesy 80's or 90's style sci fi flick that still kicked ass, either was viable but by trying to do both it fails. And that's not even getting into the fact that Buzz' best friend being openly gay and having an onscreen kiss disney SHOCKINGLY tried to cut out before sheepishly reinserting it for florida shaped reasons.

There's also a TON of little things that just don't add up: Buzz' ship doesn't look a ton like the classic one, Zurg looks and acts NOTHING like the one we see in Toy Story 2 in toy or in the video games, and Buzz really doesn't look a ton like it. It just takes you out of the movie trying to figure out how the hell this movie came out in kayfabe 1995 and drags the film down slightly as a result. Onc eagain, easy solution in sight, stupid solution taken instead lest get sent to the void. We Should Be On By Now

So we've gotten into why the movie dosen't make a lick of sense in the Toy Story universe.. but what is it as a movie? What it is is honestly pretty good. While it has some flaws, we'll get to those the core of the film is a moving, high concept sci fi piece. The Film is a character piece, one centered around Buzz.. and the greatest mistake of his life. We see this mistake at the start of the film: Buzz is a Space Ranger, part of Star Commands mission to explore new worlds to settle on and explore. Buzz's job alongside his best friend and commanding officer Alisha is to check out these worlds ahead of time to see if their habitable before waking the science team. I find it neat this is done in resonable shifts: make sure ther'es a reason to stay and not a ton of hostile critters, then thaw out science team to likely check for toxins and other hidden dangers that Space Rangers prelimnary scans might have missed.

America's Ass Chris Evans and Uzo Aduba who unsuprisingly is playing someone who tries to find a way to save the day because that's who she is. Both are excellent. Evans admitely stumbles in this first act, which has a bit more comedy and most of it not landing, that has Buzz more like he is as a toy and patrick warburton: a tad hammy and jokey. It clashes with the more serious tone of the rest of th efilm and thankfully once we're past that Evans slips into the roll far better and plays the comedy scens like we know we can. Uzo is just great from start to finish as she always is when she shows up in a work, and plays Alisha as the compitent commander and compassionate but needed check to Buzz' love of protocol and obsessive need "finish the mission". THey have great chemistry and you really feel like they've been friends for a LONG time and this is just one adventure of many. I was also shocked to be reminded by Wikipedia this WASN'T Evan's first voice role: He played Casey Jones , and did a decent job if memory serves, in the excellent 2007 TMNT movie. He was also in Battle For Terra which I honestly forgot existed and probably will after this review finishes.

Things go bad fast though and all thanks to Buzz: His refusal to really work with a rookie they brought leaves him open to the planets living plants, and they quickly find out this planet is hostile as hell and try to leave. An engine failure and Buzz' half assed attempts to land with no help seal their fate and leave the crew stranded.

This is the moment I talked about and it's telling Buzz's first instict is to handcuff himself and insist he be court martialed, recognizing his ego and overconfidence has trapped hundreds of people on a hostile world with no easy way off as they'd need to try and synthize the crystals that make warp flight possible. It shows Buzz not only took his horrible mistake hard, but that he's geninely repentant. Alisha wisely get shim to pivot, using Buzz' sense of duty to point out the mission isn't done: They need to set up a colony so they can sythisze the fuel needed to find some way out of this.. and they need Buzz to both make sure they get that far and to do the flight work It's a heartwarming well meaning gesture, Alisha not likely happy with the crash but understanding that beating up her friend over it may send him spiraling further and that by giving him a purpose, it'll have him put his guilt towards making up for his mistakes and instead of drowning in them. As a wise man once said

The problem is telling him to Finish The Mission.. also leaves Buzz using said phrase as an unhealthy coping mechanisim for his own guilt. To him the ONLY way he can ever forgive himself for what he's done to these people is getting them home. The ONLY thing that matters is making the fuel stable and no matter what it costs him he'll do it. It's all he has to hold onto.

And thus we get a decent twist and one the trailers hid: while the trailers did reveal the plot involves buzz ending up generations after his friend with her dead, I assumed it'd be, funnily enough a Captain America situation: Buzz goes forward, his friend is long gone and he's a man out of time. While he's a man out of time HOW it happens is something I never could've imagined but it's incredibly creative, heartbreaking and tragic: Buzz lands from his first failed test flight.. and finds the tech who helped him years older, having grown a beard.. and thinking Buzz was DEAD. Buzz lost four years of his life due to time dilation, a scientific principal often mused about in space flight and why the cryosleep was likely applied: While Buzz himself doesn't age everything around him does, so while for him it was likely a few hours, for everyone else it was four years. As such he lost those years, missing his best friend getting engaged to a wonderful woman she met. It's driven home painfully by the fact he's shocked it just happened.. only for Alisha to interject it was three years ago. They've been together that long and Buzz missed all of it

Buzz is given one of the best parts of the film to cope. To Star Command and Alisha's credit, they've prepared for things like this and thus Buzz is given a therapy robot, Sox, a cat robot voiced by Peter Sohn. If that name doesn't ring a bell it's fair: Sohn's mostly done small rolls like the mugger in incredibles and is more a behind the scenes man, with his directorial debut coming soon with the awesome looking Elemental. I assumed going in Socks was simple Disney mandated comic relief. And while part of that is true, he's very deadpan and very hilarious at times… he's also endearing, genuinely trying to help Buzz with his trauma and process things while Buzz is determined to do the flight again, keep going and Finish the Mission. In this trying time where he's lost so much time and is only going to loose more, Sox is a lifeline, doing research on the crystals between flights and being Buzz's support and friend. Buzz , while slightly annoyed by his robot buddy, does genuinely apricate his efforts. Sadly Buzz fails to see the lost time as something to mourn nor takes any time to regroup, get counseling that isn't a robot cat, or reflect: he instead pushes forward.. and the insuring montage is tearjerking. Buzz continues to loose year, after year, only seeing his best friends life in glimpses as she has a child with her partner, anniversaries and other events. Buzz gets to intend, as Alisha makes sure he's included.. but he looses so much. By focusing so much on his past mistake, a mistake that to him was just days ago, a mistake he never took the time to forgive himself for, he's missing the key fact: That everyone and everything else has moved on. What he did was a terrible blunder, yes. Him trying to make up for it for noble.. but letting his drive to do so consume him cost him a life.

He could've found a partner himself if he wanted to , help settle this world as his friend had, been a part of her joys and triumphs and been there for her children and grandchildren. Instead he's just a passing figure, a story she can tell them.. and when she finally passes of old age, he's not there for it. He lost his best friend and being a part of her life all because he coudlnt' get up.. and the sadest part is he STILL plans to keep going, not realizing that in the decades that have passed the mission is obsolete: generations have grown up here and while space flight COULD be useful, escaping..is no longer necessary. And you can see why Buzz dosne't realize this: in his dogged pursuit only months, maybe a year has passed for him while DECADES have gone on. Oceans rised, empires fell.. and he stayed the same, trapped in the worst moment of his life trying to make up for it long after said mistake has turned from a horrible surivival situation to simply the way things are.

The film tries to hammer this home with the new commander, Cal Burnside> The problem is Cal.. is the worst character in the film and would be the worst part if not for the. For starters shortly AFTER Buzz just found out his friend was dead he decides to just.. tell Buzz the missions' canceled, his work was for nothing and it's over. Now granted, I get why: like I said this is home. Cal had his WHOLE LIFE here from birth to now. I suspect the ONLY reason Buzz wasn't stopped sooner is Alisha coudln't bare to do that to her friend and likely planned to simply talk him down from escaping and find another use for space flight once he was done.

Cal however dosen't seem to Graps Buzz woudlnt want to give up that easy, to him only a year, if that has passed while decades have passed to him or you know get him a therapist to help him adjust to his new life. Canceling the project is fine but the callousness this bastard has for a man who just found out the one shot he felt he had at redpention is dead, his best friend is dead, and he has NOTHING left but his robot cat is MIND BOGGLING. Oh and because the missions over he plans to have said cat memory wiped and murdered.

So yeah I do not like this guy at all. He was clearly meant to be gruff but well meaning.. but comes off as an unempathetic ass not helped by trying to arrest buzz for taking off soon after… even though that's obviously what he'd do and maybe treating him like a criminal instead of TALKING TO HIM MORE would help. Cal really fails to grasp what Buzz is going througha nd while I get it, unlike Alisha he dosen't know the guy, you'd THINK a legendary hero who had been around for decades at this point and been doing this for so long woul dbe someone he'd at least read up on heavily or something he'd read the breifings for if Alisha left any. Sure she could've done nothing and this could be her fault.. but given Cal's impulsive, overly holden to the rules, needlessly if unteitonally cruel actions, i'm inclined to beleivie he woudln't of cared.

So Buzz takes off again and ends up a few weeks later, finding the city covered with a dome and under siege by the forces of Zurg, whose also taking an intrest in Buzz. The only help he has are the incredibly green cadets of the local base who happened to not be behind the city's shield, what Burnside pivoted research too, at the time and are trying to find some way to stop Zurg: Izzy, Alisha's enthuastic granddaughter whose a big fan of Buzz' played by the radiant Kiki Palmer, Mo, a nervous sort played by a criminally misused Taika Watiti and Darby, played by Dale Soules of orange is the new black, a convict doing this as community service. Buzz naturally given the weird rookie thing doesn't want to use them, but is of course forced to rely on them

The cadets are a mixed bag. THe whole having to rely on them thing feels contrived and done a thousand times before, and they feel like the most cliche part of a film that's mostly fairly clever in doing space stuff. That said Izzy and Darby ARE endearing: Izzy is cheerful, genuinely wants to help and get better, and wants to take her shot. l She's also helpful, pointing out the space rangers suits stealth functions when the group gets some and having come up with operation surprise party, the plan to defeat Zurg, herself. You can't help but like her as she struggles to earn her uncle's approval. Darby is less complex being the comic relief, but she's still useful and entertaining, casually hot wiring stuff for the crews needs, making fun quips and generally being what scientests call a hoot. Mo is the weak link: Watiti CAN be funnier and deeper than this as seen with What We Do In the Shadows, Our Flag Means Death and The Thor Films, but is wasted here on an underdeveloped cowardly guy stereotype

I do get why star command fans aren't fond of these guys though: Their, aside from Izzy, a weak substitute for strong characters with far better designs. Izzy is still great though an emotional bedrock that helps Buzz see the life Alisha had, that it may of not been what she was planning.. but she wouldn't trade it. A life well lived.

The Man Who Sold the World And it's around this time Buzz gets kidnapped by our main villian, Zurg, played by character actor i'm not too familiar with but does terrific here James Brolin. And it's here we get a twist MANY hated: Zurg.. is an older Buzz, one from another timeline who did land on time.. and was nearly arrested. Understandably bitter at Burnsides treatment of him after FINALLY mastering the fuel he sped off and ended up aging some.. and ended up in the past. The time dilation turned out to work both ways and provided Future Buzz an opportunity: go back to when the accident happen, stop it and prevent this timeline from ever happening. Admittedly we get one of the dumbest parts of the film as Future Buzz just.. found the Zurg equipment. There might be a real Zurg whose shit he stole, the robots just call him that. It is impressively half assed, having the main villian just find this stuff instead of having Future Buzz' socks simply come up with the robots and ships. We know our Socks has been spending the decades studying the fuel and likely thus the ships himself, and givne he hacked star command to get the test flight going could probably do the same now covertly to get robot plans and anything Future Buzz needed. It's UTTERLY lazy in a film that's usually anything butt when it comes to it's plot.

That said while the "he found this stuff' thing is VERY stupid.. I have to admit.. I LOVE Future Buzz. Yes really. I get the hate to a point: evil future self isn't the newest thing with Hulk having done it brilliantly with Future Imperfect and the Maestro back in the 9's and other films like said Lost in Space and Lego Movie: The Second Part being brought up. But the thign is just because a trope HAS been done.. dosen't mean it can't work again. The way it's done here is better than how it seems for LIS, and is far different from Lego Movie 2. The motivations are different, the characterization is diffrent and the intent is different.

The reason Future Buzz works is he's the embodiment of our Main Buzz's obession with "finishing the mission'" Our Buzz has finally stopped long enough to see his guilt is no longer needed, that his friend had a full life as did everyone else and they created somethign wonderful out of a terrible situation: generations of families, a life well lived and a home.

Future Buzz, who yes I get is Zurg but is not really zurglike so it's easier to only call him that when I want to rather than all the dang time, never stopped. He never stopped thinking of the mission, never stopped trying, and only thought of that. And it's divergince that gives Buzz clarity: he realizes that if he does this, resets time anjd finally fixes his mistake he'll reach his goal: but Izzy , Mo, even Commander Douchecanoe will never exist and the good life Alisha had, the partner she met will never happen. All that will be gone.. and in the end when faced with getting what he want, with seemingly getting his redemption.. Buzz backs away. He's finally done one of the hardest things a person can do, a thing I struggle with when I fuck up, and perhaps why this film hit so hard: he forgives himself and lets his mistake go

Naturally there's more to this: Zurrg refuses to see reason and plans to still hard reset things, Buzz' crew save him, as does Future Socks who realizes his old friend has lost his way and invests in a new buzz.. before sadly getting killed by Zurg!Buzz for his betryal. An actiony and decent climax has had but for me the most important part is done: Buzz forgave himself , broke the cycle and finds a new future. Reopens the Space Rangers, now dedicated to exploring nearbye systems with the perfected crystal and protecting their home from threats, with the Zurg incident having shown there's more out there. Our heroes head to infinity and beyond.. and Buzz finally embraces the future. It's a good ending and as you can see the plot.. really isn't that bad. I get Future Buzz being divisive, but to me it's a solid tale of living and guilt.. and moving past it to infinity and beyond The problem isn't future Buzz as a character: Brolin is fantastic and he's a perfect evil oppisite. The problem is the biggest one with the film

This Shoudln't Of Been A Toy Story The thing that holds the film back from being a true classic.. is that it's a Buzz Lighyear tale. on it's own it's fucking amazing and could've easily been a pixar sci fi movie about a man grappling with his mistakes. But the buzz bits grafted onto it don't take. The Space Ranger Uniforms for staters are too goofy for the tone: Buzz and co wear realistic nasa style uniforms when not in flight and Buzz has a realistic flight suit he uses for the tests. Their iconic outfits dont' get me wrong, but they just don't fit this movie with their gaudy color scheme and space age design. More importanntly though in connection to the toy versions.. it just dosen't work. Zurg is modernly redeisgned to be threatning, and isn't the hammy darth vader clone he was in Toy Story. As I said NONE of this makes sense as the original toy story. There's a clever bit here and there, the space ranger suits Mo and Darby use are the Blue and Red Variants used in the original toyline. I love that so much. But ultimately it just feels like a familiar IP Grafted onto a truly great story.

That's the tragedy here: This is a fairly decent film. It's not as bad as it's hate, but it's hampred by trying to be something it's not. It was assumed to be a star wars style action film but it's not. It was saddled with a lisence that only actively hurt it. If LIghtyear were just allowed to be a cool high concept sci fi film with some action, fun characters, and a truly deep core it'd work. As it stands, Lightyear is a flawed messy film that I still feel is woth a look. The three films before it are objectively better, again even with just maybe 20 minutes of Turning Red it's far more cohesive, personal and well thought out than this entire film, and the three after it, Elemental, Elio and Inside Out 2 look far more intresting, this flim dosen't really deserve to be remember as this hated failure it's become. It should be remembered at what it is: a mistake in making it a toy story film.. but a decent sci fi story about letting go of guilt all the same.
