Summary: You’re the head lifeguard, and he’s the cocky subordinate that does everything he can to make sure you know who’s really the boss: yes, everything.
Over the 8 seas masterlist
Being a lifeguard was a long time dream of yours from childhood. The beach was somewhere you grew up, holding many special and fond memories. It’s how you got to where you are now, head of the Bondi beach lifeguard association. Being in charge of one of the most famous beaches in the world was not an easy task. It involved hiring, training, firing and just maintaining lifeguard reputation and overall quality. It wasn't an easy job, nevertheless, you were grateful that you could be by the sea; that’s all that mattered to you.
You had your fair share of different lifeguards. The sweet ones who were very professional, sweet ones who had no idea, the average ones, and then the ones that were just plain arrogant, knew they were good at the job and just flaunted it. He was one of them. Always prancing around half naked ‘accidentally’ forgetting/misplacing his yellow shirt. He was incorrigible, but he was the best lifeguard at Bondi, apart from you ofc course. Hyunjin was a menace, and learning how to manage him might be your greatest task of all.

The sea was choppy on a windy day like today, typical of a March weekend. Guards were on high alert, and the space between the two flags was very small, meaning that there wasn’t much safe area to swim in. Nonetheless, you sat happy in the watch chair, enjoying the way nature was such an independent, powerful body of its own.
“Y/n, good morning,” Chan smiled, taking a seat next to you, “how are you today?”
“Pretty good Chan, it’s nice to have you back.”
“Yes,” he chuckled, “time off is always good, but I can’t lie and say I didn’t miss it.”
That brought a rather large smile to your face. It was nice to hear that others shared the same passion for the ocean like yourself. Chan was one of the more senior lifeguards, having the most experience apart from yourself. Growing up a swimmer, it became advantageous during water emergencies, especially when things needed to be done quickly.
“That’s always good to hear, anything to report for today?”
“Nothing apart from the girl Hyunjin that was shoving her tongue down his throat in reciprocation to his tongue down her throat when I walked in this morning.”
An egregious eye roll followed after that. This was not the first time this had occurred. It was probably like the 20th time to be honest. Hyunjin liked to have fun, there wasn't a problem with that, you all did off duty, but it was the fact that he would bring them to work. You weren’t sure why, but everytime it made your blood boil. It definitely wasn't jealousy; no that couldn’t be it.
“If you have something to say, you are more than welcome to say it to my face rather than eye rolling behind my back.”
Ignoring his smartass comment you placed the binoculars over your eyes, refusing to even look in his direction. Chan suddenly felt awkward, realising he was about to be in the middle of a cat fight. Yep. There was a nickname for the interactions between you and Hyunjin. It was a scary day when the two of you were on duty together. You did everything you could in your power to work the least amount of time with him. It was just the nature of your relationship.
The rivalry began as soon as he stepped foot onto Bondi. He was the only lifeguard that could actually challenge you ability wise, knowledge wise, in every facet. He was confident, way too confident in your opinion, so when he got promoted to assistant manager you were still the same level, things just turned nasty. Hyunjin’s arrogance was tuned up all the way. Then you got promoted to head of association, and things just got worse. Though you felt no need to gloat, Hyunjin did everything in his power to undermine you, highlight that you were incorrectly promoted; he became a mega asshole. And you would rather drag your bare ass across a concrete road than spend more than five minutes with him.
“What do you want Hyunjin?”
“You wish I came here to talk to you, you’re so obsessed with me. I actually came to talk to my buddy Chan about last night.”
“Jesus Hyunjin, I already saw tongue wrestling her, no need to gloat that you’re getting your dick wet around here.”
“No but dude,” he replied, hitting Chan on the chest to make sure he got his attention, “she was like a freak, she went into a handstand as I went down on her, so flexible, doing cartwheels and shit completely naked.”
Your jaw clenched at hearing Hyunjin’s preposterous claims. Yes, it had been a while since you got some action yourself, so yes, it was kind of making you jealous, but it definitely had nothing to do with the idea of it being Hyunjin. Definitely not.
“Wow dude, that's crazy.” Chan nudged him smiling, almost forgetting that you were still next to him. He nudged him with his elbow, eyeing you before whispering to Hyunjin , “Maybe we should continue this convo at another time.”
“Why,” he scoffed, “are you worried about me hurting y/n’s feelings?”
This made you put your binoculars down, shooting daggers his way. Even though he got under your skin, continuously and consistently, it was usually easy to just ignore it. But the idea of him thinking that you're obsessed; it was just not something that you could just not let happen. The last thing you needed was rumors.
“For fucks sake Hyunjin,” you huffed, “can we just have one day where you spare us the details of your sex escapdes. First of all it’s just a massive HR violation and genuinely no one wants to hear it.”
He said nothing, instead, just laughing at your outburst.
“Aw y/n, y/n, it’s okay, not all of us can have mind-blowing sex regularly,” he paused, walking closer you and whispering into your ear, making sure Chan couldn’t hear. His lips brushed against the cartilage. A shiver running down your neck as he spoke.
“I bet you’d be screaming my name if I had my way with you.”
Your breath caught in your throat, you were speechless, unable to speak as he walked away. It took you a solid two minutes to shake your head, stand up and leave, and head to the tea room to grab some water. You weren’t sure why, but as you took a sip of the icey beverage, you could still feel the weight of his words. Yes, Hyunjin was a douche and made sexual remarks numerous times, but never were directly about you. It was hard to admit, but there was a dull ache between your legs at this very moment. However, the fact that it was comments from what you classified to be the most repulsive man on earth was making you sick. You chugged the water down in one go, running to the bathroom and splashing your face. You definitely needed that.
It wasn’t a long time of peace however, because your radio was on, and you could hear your name over the gentle static.
“Y/n, we’ve got a code T63.621A. Young girl stung by a jellyfish, parent is with them in the water. All on-duty units please grab the boat and head out to sea, girl is struggling to swim, over.”
“Copy that, Chan, Hyunjin, Seungmin, meet me at the shed to get the boat and let’s head to them, over.”
“Copy that.”
The three responded individually, meeting you at said shed. When it came to the beach and saving civilians, your issues with Hyunjin had to be put aside, and whether you wanted to admit it or not, he was a great lifeguard. It took a multiple person effort to lift the boat out and into the water.
“Update on the location? Over.”
“Y/n,” Felix replied, " must have been from the tower, “next to the south-west buoy 45 meters out. Be careful, the radar is showing for large volumes of blue bottles today, over.”
“No worries, I will keep you updated as much as possible.”
Chan turned the boat into gear, racing it out as fast as possible. It was somewhat hard to see, but the closer you got, the easier it was to see that the situation, while needed to be dealt with, was not an emergency.
“Hello, how are you today?”
The mother was responsive, helping herself and Chan grab her daughter and put her into the boat. The mother soon followed, resulting in a successful pickup of two civilians. Hyunjin hurried over to the child, giving her a small smile before asking for her name.
“Wow,” he gasped, patting her head, “that’s such a nice name.”
“Thank you,” she giggled, “what’s your name?”
“My name is Hyunjin, but you can call me Hyune, like the food.”
Her smile was greater than before, and you couldn’t help but follow yourself. You had no idea how good he was with kids, but he didn’t need to know that, knowing the compliment would go straight to his brain.
It was a short trip. Once you had arrived back to land, you got back on your radio to notify others that it had been sorted.
“Attention, rescue was successful, Chan and Seungmin will return the equipment and Hyunjin and I will follow up and see if we can request a 907N, over.”
Hyunjin kneeled down to the little girl's height, that beautiful smile, wait beautiful, get ahold of yourself, still across his lips as he spoke to her again.
“Ok, so could you please point to me where it hurts.”
The rescuing was the quick part, and there wasn't much time to determine on the boat especially since it was such a short distance out. She said nothing, tiny index finger pointing at her leg. You could see the bright red hue the sting the blue bottle had left behind.
“Well we shouldn’t get you to walk on that, shall we?”
In one swift motion, Hyunjin lifted the little girl, carrying her bridal style to the first aid room. You couldn't help but stare at so many things. The patience he had for the child, how kind he was with children, the way his arms subtlety flexed while carrying her. The way he was making her laugh too. It was hard to not be distracted.
The mother followed, closing the door behind her as Hyunjin closely inspected the sting. He analyzed it with much interest, making sure that it was not life threatening or just overall too serious. Your diverted attention made you completely forget how you treat a fresh sting.
“Okay so, the first thing we like to do is apply pressure to it.”
On his knees to remain eye level with the child, Hyunjin lifted his arms above his head, out of all things he chose to use to apply said pressure was his yellow lifesaving shirt. Fuck, the other ways you could have him like this. It was so obnoxious, but you had to suppress the gasp that gurgled in your throat. God his body was fucking hot. So toned, so defined. He had such a lean, yet such a muscular torso. You could have sworn you saw Hyunjin smirk, him noticing your taking to his torso, but he knew better than to tease you while doing his job.
“Y/n, did you want to have a look at it before I apply some pressure?”
You raised your eyebrows, shaking your head to snap back into it before giving him a small “yes” and kneeling down next to him. Hyunjin’s presence was as close as you have ever been before. The two of you all of a sudden were very near, faces separated by inches as you inspected the wound. He leaned in even closer before, ‘accidentally’ brushing your ear again before asking, “what do you think captain?”
The faint part of his breath lingering on your ear, and if you knew better, he was probably trying to set you off, and although you didn’t want to admit it, you knew that it was working.
“Okay so, it’s a pretty minor sting.”
You stood up, running away from the nightmare that is being attracted to Hyunjin to speak candidly with the mother of the little victim.
“I would just monitor it for the next couple of days. If it gets worse at a rapid rate, head straight to the emergency at your nearest hospital, but-”
“It’s very rare for that to happen, we’ve never seen it here before.”
And he was back. The cocky, arrogant, overbearing lifegard you knew him for. The fact that he interrupted you made your blood boil. Here he was again, trying to undermine you because he simply thought he was too good for you, too good for everyone that works at Bondi beach.
“Yes,” you looked at him, shooting another dazzling death glare, “Hyunjin will get that bandaged up for you and then you guys should be good to go.”
“Ah ok thank you,” the mother replied, nodding as you exited and headed up to the communal lifeguard showers. You were not really wet, and yes the showers were to rinse off the salt water, but maybe a hot shower would help you rid yourself of the array of confusing emotions you were feeling. Stripping down to your bikinis, you closed the door to your stall, and let the steaming water pour over your body. A deep groan of bliss escaped your lips as the liquid hit your back, allowing you to self-reflect on how to remain calm. Today was just an off day, nothing else. I mean, if you’re attracted to Hyunjin, maybe it's a sign that you need to redownload tinder, get someone to jump your bones, and then come back to peace, again.
It didn’t take long, however, to be interrupted once again, hearing a phone call out in the hallway.
“Yeah, no Chan, it was chill, and y/n’s fine I think, she doesn’t seem off to me, does she seem off to you?”
You turned the water slightly lower, wanting to eavesdrop on the conversation.
“Dude, I don’t like y/n, she gets on my nerves so bad, will you stop trying to be a wingman all the time and focus on your own love life?” The chuckle that followed was a nervous one, anyone could hear that.
You were about to lose it, turning the lock on the stall before you heard the voice getting closer. Covering your mouth, you turned it off, able to hear the slight textured sound of him dropping his duffle bag discarding his clothes, hopping into the stall next to you.
“Chan I’m telling you, she is the most irritating person I have ever met.”
That’s it. You barged out of your stall, aggressively knocking on his before banging on his. He opened with a confused expression, quickly followed by a smirk, like he already knew he had been caught. Seeing you in a drenched state, he put his phone into his bag, wanting to avoid any water damage for the outburst he was about to unwillingly observe.
“Oh y/n, what a pleasant surprise, you look good.” A slight hint of heat could be felt in your cheeks at his dirty compliment.
“Do you always talk behind the back of your coworkers, or is it just me?”
You shut the door behind you, not wanting anyone to get the wrong idea. The only response he had was to chuckle. He stood there, swimming shorts only, turning around and letting the water splash his face, trickling down his, now that you’re looking straight at it, very wide and toned back. You watched each intricate movement from behind, admiring the way each finger tip ran through each strand of now damp hair. Every impulsive thought was telling you to touch it, feel the darkened locks against your fingertips: but you knew better. One thing would lead to another, and the last place you wanted it to be was right here in this very stall.
“Definitely just you.”
He turned back around, leaving you hung up against the door, a large factor that was accounting for the lack of distance between the two of you. Silence filled the room as you waited for him to reignite another conversation. Your breathing was shallow, and you knew that if he came closer, you were going to be in trouble.
“You know what Y/n? I have to ask you something.”
He lifted an arm, placing it on the door, equivalent to your eye-level.. He looked down on you, almost like he was checking you out yet simultaneously wanting to intimidate you.
“Don’t you ever get sick of this?”
“Sick of what?” You were genuinely confused as to what he meant, scoffing a little too loud.
“The hatred, if you could even call it that, for me?”
You scoffed in response, again. You knew what he was trying to imply, but he was so far off. It was hatred. How could it be anything else?
“It’s definitely hatred, don’t get that wrong. I hate you, you hate me, we ignore each other and only interact when necessary.”
“Then why aren’t you moving away from me?”
His body followed his hand, hips almost pressing up against yours. Fuck, he was right. A sharp inhale pushed into your throat, you suddenly felt nervous. Looking up at him felt like a dream. Hyunjin was so fucking hot, and maybe, the closer he got to you, it was true that it wasn’t hatred at all.
“You’ve trapped me in, I can’t escape.”
He said nothing, watching your eyes as he leaned forward, letting his lips attach themselves to yours. Your eyes went wide at first, thinking that you should pull away, but the longer it went on, the more you wanted it. Your lips began to move with vigor themselves, Hyunjin groaned into your mouth, you following, allowing his body weight to fall into yours. You lifted your leg, guiding his hand on the outside of your thigh to lift it up. Your core was already throbbing, and you could tell after he lifted your leg, that it was having detrimental effects on him also. His semi-hard on could already be somewhat felt between your core, and you rolled your hips a little creating enough subtle friction in the perfect spot; the zipper of his shorts. It wasn’t until you needed breath that when you parted and your brain stopped short-circuiting, and you realized where you were and what you’d done.
“What the fuck was that?”
Hyunjin brought a tumb to his lips, wiping the outer corner before chuckling at you.
“I was just proving to you y/n, this so-called ‘hatred’ you have for me.”
“Wow,” you scoffed, throwing your hands in the air, “you think that you can just fuck around with any girl you want? Well news flash, I’m your fucking boss, and if you think you can ever do that again, I’ll destroy you so fucking fast, you won’t know what hit you.”
“Hah,” he chuckled, a smirk still painted on his pride ridden face, “Getting destroyed by you sounds like a dream.”
Too flustered to even respond, you stormed out, forgetting to dry yourself, putting your clothes that stuck to your wet body and going back on duty. What the fuck was that? A shiver of nausea came over you, knowing that you will never live this down. Tucking your hair behind your ears, you attempted to compose yourself, heading to the lookout. Chan was sitting there too, for some reason avoiding your eye contact.
“Hey Chan,” you swallowed hard, hoping he wouldn’t notice, “how’s every-”
“I heard it.”
Your heart dropped into your ass. Surely he wasn’t talking about what you thought he was.
“What? How, I-”
“I think Hyunjin thought he hung up, but he actually didn’t.”
“Fuck,” was all you could say. This could ruin everything. Your job, your reputation, your well known hatred for him. You weren’t even sure what it was anymore. Part of you cared so much about what other people thought, especially the guards at the beach, but the other part, the bigger part in this moment, didn’t give a fuck. The only thought lingering on your mind was his hands, how they seared across your skin. How they already were able to significantly impact you in such a small period of time. If you knew better, you would have thought that his palms were already imprinted on you. You were reeling but, the logic of being rational was too hard to even fathom trying to do at this moment.
“Yeah, look I don't know what goes on between you guys, and y/n tell me if i'm overstepping, but you say you hate him, but I really don’t think you hate him at all.”
You scrunch your nose, knowing that maybe what Chan said was true after all.
“Look, whatever you think, can we just go back to before like nothing ever happened, please.”
He laughed, knowing that this would be the route you wanted to take, “secret is safe with me.”
This little chat did not calm you down or relax you at all. If anything, the thought of Hyunjin on you was becoming heightened burning into the back of your brain. You wanted him. You wanted to be touched, bad. It just happened to be convenient that Hyunjin, a very attractive man, happened to crave touch at the same time.
“Fuck this,” you mumbled, “Chan I’m going on my break, if anything really serious, just let me know via the radio.”
He nodded, eyes stuck in his binoculars overlooking the beach. You walked back inside, hoping and praying that Hyunjin was still in there. You became excited, craving that feeling of being touched, caressed, held by him. Your mortal enemy; it was crazy.
And the craziest things of them all? When you walked back into the showers, he left the door open, back resting on the wall stall, cock in hand, absolutely pumping himself to the full capacity. He was too caught up to even notice your arrival. The sight instantly made you horny, and the fact that he was probably thinking about you while he did it drove you up the wall. Getting in the stall, you closed it behind you, undressing yourself completely this time, standing there, waiting for him to notice. His lids were heavy and it took him a decent 30 seconds for him to see you back.
“Fuck,” Hyunjin jumped, covering his member with his hands, fuck his cock was hot, “you fucking scared me.”
At first, he didn’t notice your lack of clothes, giving you direct eye contact in his fright. It did not take long for him to notice tho, subconsciously biting down on the big fucking juicy bottom lip. God you wanted to suck it. Leave it longing in your mouth as he pulled away, length tipping you over the edge.
“Shit,” he huffed, “I can’t fucking do this anymore.”
Hyunjin takes you by the waist, wrapping his arms around your back and he pulled up against the hardness of his body. His lips crashed against yours, and he moaned at the rough contact, the immatureness of him reeling in the way your tits pressed up against his chest. You were just as hungry, arms around his neck, hands and fingers acting on prior impulsive thoughts; god his hair was so soft.
“Fuck,” he pulled away in between, pecking you, “you’re so,” peck, “fucking,” peck, “hot I could die.”
You pulled away completely, giggling at his eagerness. You couldn’t help yourself, the hunger was consuming you. Without thought, you dropped to your knees, biting down on your lip while looking at his throbbing length in front of you. My god was he girthy. A hand on his balls, you began to massage, Hyunjin’s hands instantly fisting your hair into a very messy pony, grabbing what he could before his jaw became slack, gasping at the way your lips became wrapped around him. Although he had a decent length, giving head was your specialty, it was one of your favorite things to do. You tested the waters, flicking your tongue vigorously against his tip, before letting your lips wrap around him completely, more and more of his cock engulfing your mouth. Bobbing up and down at an extremely slow pace, your eyes were glued to Hyunjin’s face, gratified in how easy it was to make him shut the fuck up and be grateful for something, in this case, the something being your mouth. Your tongue, all the warm parts of your mouth that made him rock hard. Made him jerk off thinking about you. A sigh of relief waved over you when you saw his eyes roll back, mouth very much agape the lower you sank into him.
“Holy shit baby,” he grunted, head still affirmatively back, hips gently rocking into your mouth, “you’re so good at that.”
You pulled him out of your mouth for a moment, a large ‘pop’ at the full release, your left hand quickly replacing your lips as you began to pump at a very slow pace. The arousal for yourself was increasing at a rapid pace, uncontrollable. You took your other hand off of his balls, index finger flicking your nipples for any kind of self stimulation. A tiny giggle escaped your lips, reaching Hyunjin’s ear and snapping him back to reality. He moved your hand off of him, reluctantly, before hooking his hand round your elbows, lifting you up and pinning you against the wall of the stall. This frustrated you, feeling like the power was being taken away from you. If only you knew that if you kept blowing him, he would have cum, and the fun would have been over way too quickly for you. He pinned you down, enclasping both wrists in one hand. Fuck. All control of your limbs was now in his hands, literally. His typical ego fueled, pride ridden glare was back on his face, and oh, was he ready to get his revenge on you.
“Slow and steady wins the race, right?”
“You’re such a fucking bitch,” you growled, core throbbing at the combination of condescending tone in his voice. Part of you felt bad for teasing as you enjoyed the way he submitted his body to your hand and mouth, but then, Hyjunin’s torturous teasing of his words triggered a playback of every single time that he was an asshole to you. Every single time he called you a name, undermined you to civilians and other staff, the shit talking to the junior guards especially. The fact that he used to so openly talk about all the women he fucked, how they had him begging his name, cumming all over his face. That was the last straw.
Hyunjin shoved his tongue down his throat, generously lifting the restrain on your hands, his left hand now encompassing the circumference of your neck, other and dragging itself across your torso. The sting of his nails were already felt, but it only increased your arousal. Hyunjin somehow managed to be rough yet delicate at the same time. You knew that if you looked down, there would be a multitude of red streaks, but that was not what was important right now.
It was the way the hand around your neck immediately went to your mouth to muffle the crescendo of moans that escaped your lips when he pulled away and his calloused fingertips slipped underneath your waist, stretching your pussy lips before dipping his middle finger right along your clit. The circular motions, like yours, were long and drawn out. So petty he was. Nevertheless, it still made you moan just as hard, biting down on your bottom lip once more. Fuck, nothing had ever felt so good before.
“That shut you up,” he chuckled with a more sinister raspiness to it, “you’re lucky we’re in the shower and I can’t tell how wet you are.”
“Yeah, fucking right,” you huffed, gentle griding your hips on his fingers. It was easier to deny it than accept that he, Hyunjin, the one man you hate, was able to make you feel this good. He withdrew them for a moment, spitting on his own hand before removing the other from your muffled mouth, prodding them at your own. You opened eagerly, moaning at the taste of his bodily fluid. At any other point in time, you would repulse at the motion, but right now, nothing was as important as this. You bobbed your finger with ease against the long digits, but it wasn’t for long, because they went straight back into your folds, an index finger slipping almost too easily into your hole.
“Fuck Hyunjin,” you bellowed, “I fucking hate that you’re making me feel this good.”
An expression of satisfaction dripped across his face as he sped up the pace of his finger, adding a second as the sound of skin slapping increased. You reached around, reattaching your fingertips to his cock. A nervous laugh and a hip shudder came from the man next to you, not expecting you to be so bold, yet he expected it at the same time. He knew you couldn’t stand when someone attempted to be better than you at anything.
“Stop making this a competition,” he huffed, “you know you’re going to lose.”
“No, I’m-fuck, no I’m not.”
But that’s exactly what it was. Who could make the other cum first. A sharp whine escaped your lips, followed by a deep moan from himself, it was your goal to have him cumming all over you. Ropes of his seeds coating your stomach, tits, face, lips. You had never wanting something this much from a man. The two of you were at your loudest, but you simply didn’t care. If someone heard, it was just going to be a whatever moment. It’s not like anyone would know who it was anyway, or maybe not, because you were moaning his name every time he thrusted into you.
“You’re so path-shit, pathetic y/n, I knew you always wanted me.”
“Shut up,” you hissed back. He withdrew his hands from your cunt, placing them on your hips spinning you around, ass now facing him. His cock was pressed in between your cheeks as he began to slowly move, the slight sensation on your rim making your toes curl. Your hands were wrapped around his back. It would have looked awkward to an outside person, but you didn’t care. You needed to be close to him.
“You know when I realized it was the first time I wanted you?”
“When,” you breathed, heavy, almost like you were out of breath from running in to save a life, “when did you want to fuck me?”
He ignored, taking your hands off of him and pinning them together once more, above your head. He continued his teasing motions, but maneuvered himself intellectually, cock now slipping in between your folds, tip barely hitting your clit. Although it was painfully tortuous, it still felt so good, rewarding almost. You waited in anticipation, desperate to hear his answer. It made you curious, because you were asking yourself. What switched in his brain? What flip switched on your own? How your cognitions led you to this moment. It didn’t matter, because your brain was short circuiting. You couldn’t see him, but you were dying to. Wanted to see how he looked. Hin losing himself to the pleasure of your pussy.
“The first time you yelled at me,” he grunted, taking a hand off your wrists and stroking his length, prodding at your entrance. He took no time to tease you though, sliding effortlessly between your folds. The sound was immense, and there had to be an echo that traveled. You could see Hyunjin’s side profile, head bowing and licking a gentle stripe up the crevice of your neck, spine shuddering at the wet sensation.
“You know what I really thought?”
You said nothing, a giant fear that it would be only a surmount of broken words. Instead, you let his dick do the talking, whining when he pushed his hips back, pulling away from you completely. Your pussy was now aching, and you could definitely tell that you were dripping for more. Hyunjin was clearly merciless when it came to you, and not giving you what you wanted.
“Oooh,” Hyunjin mumbled, lips buzzing on the skin along your shoulder, “this pussy is so sweet I just know it?”
“Yeah?”
“Yes, I wanna fucking taste that fucking cunt so bad.”
It was ironic how his cursing was getting you embarrassed, almost like you forgot that the was about to fuck you. He who you said you hated, who you would rather do almost anything else for than give Hyunjin that satisfaction. The gratification to know how you feel, what kind of lover you are, how your cunt felt against him. But things had changed, and there was nothing you wanted more than all of that. You were desperate trying anything and everything to increase the friction considering that Hyunin was moving painfully slowly.
The truth is, Hyunjin had been waiting to get this for a very long time. To get you. Yeah I mean, the few times the senior guards went out together and you hooked up with other guys, left early and went home with them was tough for him, but you weren’t together. Although a long time ago, he used to get so worked up, and he didn’t know why. He still found you almost intolerable, which is why it was easier to hate you, because if he did like you, he would fall down the rabbit hole at a world breaking speed. He knew that when, no, if the moment came, that it would be sweet, but he didn’t know it was going to be this good. You exceeded his expectations tenfold, especially the way you sucked his cock. His hips were gyrating faster unconsciously, and knew he could come right that second the more he thought about it.
“Hyunjin,” you whined, “harder, please.”
He ignored you, completely pausing before letting go of your wrists and flipping you around. The first thing he did was slide his body right against yours, thigh splitting your legs open, the gentle friction against your clit making you moan. Hyunjin had never looked so fucking hot in his life. You had seen him wet, many times, but this was different. The beads of liquid spayed his face, drenching his long hair, but his eyes, lips. They were so hungry, disheveled, like he was a predator hunting his prey. He reattached his lips to yours, crashing down as his hand snaked back around your neck. He didn’t even know if you were okay with it, but it didn't matter when you lifted your hand yourself, pushing your fingertips against his as he kissed you. The multitude of sounds that came from your mouth as the result of the tension between your core and Hyunjin’s thigh poured into his mouth, leaving him to wrap his free hand around his cock. He began pumping, pulling away and wasting no more time to plunge his cock deep inside of you. Oh my, it could be humiliating how easily he slipped inside of you.
“Say my name,” he growled, applying more pressure to your neck, “say it out loud.”
“Hyunjin,” you whined, tone pretty quiet as you concentrated on not clenching around him, “Hyunjin fuck.”
“So fucking sweet,” he continued to grunt, picking up his pace to an even greater speed, “that’s my favourite way to hear it.”
You brought your free hand up to his body, raking your digits over his washboard torso. My god he was fit. You wanted to slap yourself, wondering why you spent, no, wasted so much time hating him. He chuckled, the deepest he ever has, clearly enjoying how your fingers felt on him. Your mind, being a visual person, went back to the mental imagery of him jerking off in front of you. It was eating your mind up as he continued to fuck you unapologetically.
“Was it me?”
“What?”
“Fuck,” you chuckled, “I can’t speak. Were you-fuck, thinking of me?”
“When y/n,” he scoffed, rhythm getting distracted by your poor attempt at a question, “you’re gonna have to be more specific.”
“When you were jerking your cock?”
“Yes,” he answered confidently, his cock was in you and it would probably be more awkward if he just denied it, “it was because of you.”
Your pussy clenched, The idea was so hot, Making a man that went out of his way to piss you off and vice versa became so enamored with you. So much so that he couldn't wait until he got home and had to relieve himself at work. You thanked the upper powers that nothing serious was happening at the beach, because you would have been a raging horny bitch, even more than what Hyunjin would consider you to be on a normal day.
He was moving at an unfathomable rate, and moaned softly each time you clenched around him. You knew you couldn’t last for much longer, and the thought of him getting off to you was accompanying you at this moment. Hyunjin took his hand off your throat, one hand on his hip for more precision, the other enclasping your nipples, and fuck, did he get your weak spot.
“You have beautiful tits,” he grunted, lips latching onto them like his life depended on it. He flicked his tongue back and forth, causing the most unholy of moans. Locking your hand into his scalp, you yanked him closer, back up to his lips before smashing them against his. You want to feel him now as close as you can, because once this was over, you weren’t sure if you would even be able to reenact the same feeling.
When you pulled away, Hyunjin’s bottom lip caught between your teeth as you lingered, more than enjoying the way they were so big, they popped when escaping your teeth. You were getting closer, unable to control the clenching that your pussy was doing. Hyunjins hissed, the tight sensation doing so much for him.
“Fuck Hyunjin, I’m so close.”
“Me too baby,” Hyunjin whined, adjusting his hips, “fuck I’m gonna blow so hard.”
“Yeah baby?”
Your hands were across his face, once under his chin and the other on top of his chin, wrapped across his cheek. It was a sloppy placement, but it was the least of your concerns as the pit of your orgasm is brewing at the pit of your stomach.
“Yeah Y/n, fuck,” he mumbled under your palm, sounding like he was on the verge of tears, “wanna blow in you.”
“Fuck, that’s so hot,” it was your turn to growl, knowing Hyunjin was slightly losing himself inside of you, “do it.”
His eyes lit up like a Christmas tree. It was his biggest fantasy, especially when it came to you. The thought of you walking around at work, cum stuffed into your cunt, and he was the only one that would know it. He could not count the endless times he thought about it.
“Are you fucking serious?”
“No I’m fucking joking.”
“Fuck keep going,” he moaned, too fucked out to keep up with your sarcastic tone, “I’m about to cum so fucking hard.”
“Yes,” you sighed, “fill me up baby.”
“I’m gonna fucking fill you up.”
“Yes you are.”
“Shit, fuck yes I am,” he grunted, thrusts becoming very erratic, “you’re so fucking beautiful.”
He gave you one last peck, never breaking eye contact as he watched your jaw slack, the most gruesome moan falling from your lips as he watched your orgasm roll over you. Crashing like a tidal wave. Your hips bucked against him, increasing the pleasure for Hyunjin as he came in you momentarily, a similar sound coming from his lips as the two of you rode out your high. The feeling of his seed making you clench unfathomably around him. You ran your hand through his hair again, pushing the hair off his forehead to see his face in this form completely. You cooed him through it, wimping when you felt the loss of him inside of you as he withdrew himself.
Reality washed back over you and it hit you that you've just had sex, with a coworker (that you hate’), in the work environment. Hyunjin bends down and picks your bathing suit, two pieces, up from the floor, that intractable smirk covering his face. They hung of his index finger, a gentle reminder that you were very naked
“Fuck,” you laughed, unable to get rid the smile on your face, “I should be so mad at you, but you were really fucking good.”
“You don’t need to say anything, hearing you moan my name was enough.”
Rolling your eyes, you redressed yourself quickly, waiting for him to do the same. You punched him in the chest, interrupting him from putting his shirt back on.
“For fucks sake, you’re incorrigible, just take the fucking compliment and shut up.”
“Fine,” he replied sarcastically, coughing after to clear his throat, “we probably shouldn’t walk out together, might be suspicious.”
“Oh yeah,” your eyebrows furrowed, attempting to be serious, “good idea colleague.”
He let you out first, however you still waited for him, not really seeing the big deal in walking out to the lookout together.
“You know Chan heard the first part of our, you know, situation.”
“Fuck,” he cursed, “I thought I hung up.”
You laughed.
“It’s fine, he was already petrified of looking at me, imagine he heard the rest.”
He chuckled at your words, playfully hitting your arm as the two of you walked out. You sat next to Chan for the final time of the day, giving you a suspicious look at the fact that you and Hyunjin were laughing together. As you sat there, you tried to focus on the beach and the beach goers, but all you could think about was him.

The view from the train was absolutely breathtaking.
Every little town you passed felt like it came straight out of a picture-perfect postcard, or as if it was ripped from the storyboards of a Studio Ghibli film.
Grassy fields blended seamlessly into sand, leading up to the ocean. The sea was far enough from the train tracks, but it was still loud. Its presence could be felt all the way here, and if you tried, you’re sure you could smell the salt water.
You could almost imagine the sand under your toes, even though you were on a train right now. Your feet were tucked into your trusty sneakers and sky-blue socks instead of basking on the hot sand.
The sea was far, but the train hurtled closer to it with every stop, until it would bring you all the way to Yongbok’s cabin, which sat on a beautiful stretch of sand.
You’d been there before of course, but every time you visited the cabin was just as precious. You would spend all those train journeys with your nose glued to the glass, not wanting to miss a single thing outside.
The view outside was breathtaking.
But then again… so was Hyunjin.
You liked to make up stories in your head about the houses you passed, and the families that lived in them. It was crazy, because there must be such rich history there, and if you stopped, you could probably know so much about those people but before you could wonder, the train had already whizzed past it.
It was a beautiful feeling, but it lasted only for a second, and your daydreams about those lives could never catch up to how fast the train was moving.
Sometimes you wished you could live in that temporary feeling forever.
Instead of appreciating the landscape outside though, your eyes were drawn to the boy in the seat next to yours.
To the quirk of his pink lips.
To the way his eyes would disappear into crescents when you said something particularly amusing.
To the way the jewellery on his wrist would fall to his forearm when he moved his hands around, and the little stars in his bracelet would collide together.
Sometimes, he felt like a daydream too, and you almost expected him to disappear, just like all the towns you passed.
For the first time in a while, you hadn’t glanced out of the window — not wanting to take your eyes off him. He had carried through with his promise of being back in just a second, and obviously it took him longer than that to go get his things from the other car, but what mattered was that he was back now.
The train car was engulfed in darkness as you passed through a tunnel, and almost all the passengers around you had fallen asleep, it was the early hours of the morning after all, but Hyunjin was wide awake.
So you were too.
His bag lay on his lap, and his leg brushed against yours constantly, but he didn’t choose to move it back.
He was explaining something to you, quite dramatically, if the tone of his voice was any indication.
Sunlight suddenly flooded through the window, and you focused on the way it warmed his skin. It lit up the flecks of his eyes, the brown in them reminding you of a cosy winter day.
It would be stupid to admit that you’d lost track of what he just said.
His plush lips were moving, eyes wide with excitement, but his voice had trailed off from your ears long ago.
“Y/N?” He asked, face flushing, “I’m sorry, am I not making sense?”
You didn’t even remember what the two of you had been talking about. After all, how could you pay attention to his words, when every other part of him was just as captivating?
You blinked, hoping he wouldn’t have noticed, “What?”
He laughed, “You…you don’t know what I’m talking about, do you?”
The last thing you wanted him to feel was that you weren’t interested in what he had to say.
You shook your head, “No, I just…Could you backtrack? What were you saying just now?”
His lips tilted up, “I’m sorry. It’s my fault for talking about something like this at six freaking am, when you’re already so sleepy. Do you want to close your eyes again? I know it’s uncomfortable to fall asleep on a train, but maybe you could sleep on -”
Your lips tugged into a smile at his rambling but you stopped him, “Hyunjin…I’m not sleepy. I just zoned out for a bit, sorry. Please…go on”
He looked at you, biting his lip, “What’s the last thing you remember?”
You frowned, “Um, you were telling me about how you were supposed to go on stage, but you forgot your lines”
He instantly nodded in recognition, remembering the story he had been telling you, “Right! Exactly. So I’m in the restroom, waiting to go back out on stage, and I’m fucking freaking out at this point because I’d never got such screen time before, especially not on live television”
“Oh no” You exclaimed. Hyunjin’s hand landed on the seat rest between the two of you as he talked, and your hand was close to it, fingers lingering against his.
You wanted to suddenly reach ahead and hold his hand.
You’ve done it before — never consciously though, never with the purpose of holding his hand, but technically, your hands have touched his before.
Like when he comforted you in the bar just before you met Yeonjun.
Or when he asked you for support to lift himself out of the Creek.
But that was all subconscious.
Right now you wanted to reach ahead, and slip your fingers into his. Maybe you’d be able to focus on his story more if you were touching him, and if your palm was against his, and his cold rings were against yours.
His fingers were only inches from yours, and you could just slip your hand in his. It was a simple action, but why was it so hard to do?
It was because you had no reason to do so, and you would probably freak Hyunjin out if you suddenly grabbed his hand.
You held Yongbok’s hand all the time though. You even held Minho’s hand, so often that you couldn’t even remember for what reasons you had held it.
You wish you had a reason to hold Hyunjin’s hand.
Hyunjin continued talking, oblivious to your internal crisis, “…and I felt like every rehearsal went to waste because I couldn’t remember any of my lines, and then guess who walks in?”
“Who?” You asked, genuinely curious.
“Baekhyun Hyung!” He revealed, eyes wide, “Of all people in the freaking world, the guy I’ve looked up to since I was a kid just casually walks into the restroom”
“Oh my god”
A stupid thought crossed your mind; why did you even want to hold his hand?
It certainly wasn’t a normal thing to plan to do with people, or with your friends.
You needed to stop getting distracted, and focus on his words, instead of his body next to yours.
He giggled loudly, “I know! And at this point, I’m wishing so hard to just be invisible because I do not want Baekhyun to watch me like that! Like I was praying that I could be invisible, so I didn’t have to embarrass myself in front of him, but of course I’m not cool enough to have superpowers”
You laughed at his words, and excitement, “What happened then?”
“He looked at me and I’m sure at this point, he’s gonna ask me to get my shit together or something, because the broadcast is on and it’s so fucking unprofessional to be freaking out at an award show as big as that one, but he just comes over…and tells me my laces are untied”
Your eyes widened, “That’s all he said?”
You’d seen Baekhyun on TV before, he had been popular in the industry for ages, and you didn’t know too much about the pop music world, but everybody knew Baekhyun.
Hyunjin nodded, chuckling, “But thank god he did, because I would’ve made an even bigger fool out of myself if I walked back on stage with untied laces. I mean, I’m supposed to be a professional idol, you know?”
You laughed, “Well, did you thank him for that?”
“Of course. He managed to distract me from my stress enough, and I delivered a perfect speech”
You smiled, “Of course you did. I doubt you could ever mess up though, Hyunjin”
The hand you had wanted to hold was now clutching a pencil, as he mindlessly fiddled with it in his lap.
He laughed loudly, leaning back in his seat, “Really? I have to say, you have more confidence in me than my own company, Y/N”
“I’m sure they have confidence in you, Hyun” You said, even though you had no idea about the working of his company, or how they treated their employees, and idols.
But how could anybody not have faith in someone like Hyunjin?
He shrugged, “I suppose they do, or they wouldn’t have let me take such a long break, but…I guess they have very high standards, and it’s just difficult to impress them”
“As opposed to me, who is very easily impressed by everything?”
“Precisely. Wish you were my boss” He laughed, pointing at you.
You laughed at the image he put in your head.
You could never imagine yourself working in the entertainment industry. It sounded stressful as hell, and like there would be constant pressure. Even if you were working behind the scenes.
The consequences were big, since every mistake was broadcasted to the entire world, and anything could be used against you.
The stakes were always high in that industry.
“But have you ever messed up?” You asked, curious.
He looked into the distance, as if recalling every memory he had, “Like on stage?”
You nodded.
He was looking out the window now, and he exclaimed, “Whoa, that’s…beautiful”
You turned around to see what he was talking about. You were passing fields, with a sea of blooming white flowers and it was so pretty, your eyes widened.
Hyunjin then looked back at you, “Ah sorry you had asked me something… I just can’t believe I didn’t look outside this whole time. I’ve been too focused on our conversation”
You hope he meant that in a good way.
“Don’t worry about it”
He smiled at you, tilting his head, “What were you asking me though?”
“Oh, I was just wondering if you’ve ever like, messed up on stage?”
He hummed, fingers tapping his chin, “There has been a lot of times I haven’t been too satisfied with my performances, but I use that as motivation to get better, so I can’t really complain”
“Well, isn’t that normal though?”
He shook his head, “Not really. We’re supposed to be perfect, every single time”
“That’s not possible, you’re not robots”
He laughed, “You know, Y/N, you really should apply to be my boss”
You rolled your eyes, “But you’re not serious, are you? They really expect you to always be flawless? It’s not…humanely possible. Even the best artists mess up”
He shrugged, twirling the pencil in his hand, “Well I don’t really mind some parts of it. At least their insanely high expectations help me get better at my performances, because then I aim to be perfect all the time”
“But if you’re always perfect, how can you ever get better?” You asked, curious, “I mean…won’t you always be stuck at the same level then? It’s better to mess up like ten times, rather than…be just averagely perfect forever”
He laughed, eyes disappearing in his smile, “Averagely perfect? Isn’t that a paradox?”
“You know what I mean…”
He smiled more at your words, “I do. I wish I’d known you back in my trainee days”
“Why?”
“Maybe I wouldn’t have had such a hard time” He hummed, “You say… very inspiring things”
Your smile faded, despite the heartfelt compliment he’d just given you.
The thought of Hyunjin having a hard time made you suddenly upset.
You couldn’t even imagine how exhausting it would have been, and how hard he would have had to work to get here. You could only imagine. After all, millions of people sought out to be this, but only very few actually succeeded.
He was one of them, and you’re sure nothing about it was easy.
His expression mirrored your wistful one, but he changed the topic, “Anyway…do you want to see the speech I gave that night?”
“Of course”
He pulled out his phone immediately, leaning closer to you. The overhead lights of the train were far too bright, so you had to hunch over the phone to be able to see it well.
Scrolling through, he opened a video and you noticed how fast he typed.
You giggled as Hyunjin appeared onscreen, a tacky gold-embezzled mic in his hands.
“Classy” You commented.
He laughed, “Shut up”
He seemed so much younger in the video, his hair was much shorter, a light brown color that made him look perfect.
He was in a creme suit that fit him so well, and he enunciated every line flawlessly, introducing the next few performances of the night.
Still, after knowing the story behind that night, you could see how nervous he seemed.
“You look so frazzled” You laughed.
Hyunjin nodded, “Right? I mean, how else would you look after meeting someone like Baekhyun?”
“Well, I don’t know, I’ve never met him” You joked, even though his question had been rhetorical.
Hyunjin looked up at you, “Do you want to?”
His question caught you off guard, and your eyes whipped to him, “Do I want what?”
“Do you want to meet him?” He asked, and then continued, “I mean…I’m not really friends with him or anything, because he’s kind of scary and super famous, but if you really like him, I’m sure I could find a way-”
“Hyunjin” You stopped him, heart warming at his thought, “I don’t even know him. You don’t have to do that for me”
He seemed relieved, and he sighed, “Okay I’m glad because that would have been hard, but if you really wanted it, I would have tried to figure out a way for you”
You laughed at his honesty.
He was so cute.
“It’s not necessary” You told him, “But it’s sweet of you”
He laughed, “Of course”
His hand lingered on the seat-rest again, itching to be held, and you wanted to distract yourself from it.
“Your outfit is great though” You pointed at the video which was still paused, “Do you always wear stuff like that?”
He nodded, “We try out a lot of different styles. That one wasn’t particularly my favourite, because I felt like I couldn’t pull off a suit at that age, I mean I was only 17 there. I wasn’t too confident wearing blazers and ties, but…I really like them now. They’ve grown on me”
“What’s the coolest thing you’ve worn on stage?” You asked.
There was a time when you were younger that you dreamt of being a designer of clothes, but that was before you realised you were possibly terrible with style. At least, that’s what Hana had once told you.
Still, clothes fascinated you, especially in an industry like his, where stage costumes were almost as artistic as the canvases you painted.
He laughed, “Cool is a very relative term. Hmm, maybe I can show you a couple, and you can choose for yourself”
“Okay!” You smiled, excited at the prospect of seeing Hyunjin all dressed up.
He then held his phone to you again, allowing you to flip through his gallery.
It was strange, watching these when he was sitting right next to you. Each outfit was so beautiful, and so uniquely different from the rest. You’d never seen stuff like that before. Obviously the people of Daejon never dressed up like so.
“You look good in everything” You laughed, flipping through the myriad of pictures.
“Now you’re just being far too nice”
You stopped at a picture, mesmerised by the colours and him.
He was in a cropped blazer, embellished with sequins, and a circlet of flowers rest atop his head. Despite the delicate clothes, he looked fierce.
It was so intense, and your gaze immediately fixated on the exposed skin between his blazer, and his pants.
“I guess you like that one then?” Hyunjin asked, smiling.
You suddenly felt embarrassed, that you were caught staring at a picture of him, like you were a teenage girl, distracted by something as superficial as his abs, when there was other stuff to look at.
“It’s really pretty” You spoke, quietly, taking in the details of his outfit.
“Yeah…that was a popular one”
You could tell why.
He looked breathtaking, like a forest faerie, and the name of his band suddenly made a lot of sense.
His abdomen muscles were lean, and tight. A small part of you wanted to run your hands over it, to feel them, but you shook the thought away immediately, because that was fucking crazy.
You cleared your throat, “Um, your piercing...in your stomach. Have you always had it?”
Hyunjin seemed surprised at your question, and you were kind of surprised too that you’d managed to ask it.
It was bold, especially after he’d caught you staring at him the day at the Creek.
“Not always. I got it last year” He explained, simply, “I wasn’t really sure, but Chan convinced me to get it”
“Ohh” You nodded.
You didn’t know him well, but Chan was now your new favourite person for convincing Hyunjin to get it.
He looked at you, “You…you like it?”
You looked up at him, swallowing, “I never really thought much about piercings before, but yeah…it looks really good on you”
Hyunjin’s lips curled into a smirk, seemingly pleased with your words, “Then I guess I’ll have to thank Chan for that”

The Cabin was just as beautiful as you remembered.
You adjusted the bag further up your shoulder, as you approached the little house. The sea was louder now because it was just footsteps away, and your sneakers sunk into the sand. A part of you wanted to drop your stuff, and run into the ocean, but there would be time for that later.
On days when the tide got particularly strong, water would reach all the way up the front porch. Since it was left to the mercy of the natural elements, the maintenance of the cabin was high, and there was a lot of work you’d have to do to ready it for the party.
“So, this belongs to your uncle?” Hyunjin asked. He was walking ahead of you, next to Yongbok and Minho. They were hauling most of the snacks for the party, ranging from a variety of different flavoured popcorn and chips.
From experience, you’d learnt that nobody cared about what was served at parties, as long as it was food. What they did care about though, was the drinks, which is why you held a crate of beer against your stomach, carrying it forward.
Yongbok nodded, “He bought it off on a whim back in the 90s. Said he wanted a beach house for his and his girlfriend”
“Oh. That’s sweet” Hyunjin remarked.
“Not really, they both cheated on each other” Yongbok replied.
Hyunjin stopped in his tracks, “Oh”
Yongbok looked back at him, laughing, “Don’t worry about it, Hyunjin. At least we get to use it for parties now”
Hana rolled her eyes, “You say that as if we come here every weekend, Lixie”
Yongbok looked over his shoulder at the two of you, “You know, we really should. We don’t use it enough”
“Not all of us have so much free time like you, Lix” You spoke, stepping onto the gravel path, and out of the white sand. You shook the sand out of your shoes, as you walked ahead.
“Ouch. Mean to me on my birthday eve, love?” Felix spoke, in faux hurt.
“If Y/N was any sweeter to you, you’d both be married” Minho spoke.
Hana laughed, “Touché!”
Felix’s smile faded, and he rolled his eyes, “Funny”
Hana suddenly nudged you with her elbow, almost making you drop the carton of beers, “Babe”
“Yes?”
She was skipping over the pebbles on the path next to you, voice low, “So…you and Hyunjin”
Your head whipped to her, “Yeah?”
“What did you guys talk about? Back on the train?”
“Oh, not much. I slept most of the time” You answered, adjusting the weight in your hands. The crate of beer dig into your palms, definitely causing some chafing on your skin, but you were almost there anyway.
The cabin was only a few steps away.
“He was laughing a lot when you two got off the platform. What’d you say to him that was so funny?” She asked you.
Your eyes drifted to Hyunjin. He was stood at the steps now, out of earshot as he talked to Minho about something.
He fit right into the landscape.
The brown cabin, white sand, and pretty blue ocean.
Then him — with his huge headphones hanging around his neck, jacket tied around his waist, and strands of hair blowing in the wind.
He almost looked like he stepped out of a Disney film, and you realised you could never run out of words to describe him.
Hana was right, he had been laughing a lot on the platform with you, pulling quite a few stares from the public, but he hadn’t cared in the moment. The memory made you smile.
“Y/N?” Hana asked, pulling you back to the conversation.
“Oh, I don’t remember what I said”
“So you guys are like close now?” She asked, swinging her free arms.
“I guess”
She leaned closer to you, “So what did he say about me? Is he…upset?”
You glanced at her, not wanting to tell her that she hadn’t been a part of the many, many things you and Hyunjin talked about.
Thankfully, before you had to answer her, Hyunjin’s gaze landed on you, eyebrows shooting up, “Need a hand?”
Before you could ask him what he meant, he ran up to you, and took the carton of beer out of your hands, “Why didn’t you ask me before?”
“It’s okay, I had it” You told him, rubbing your sweaty palms on your jeans, but you were thankful he came back to help.
Cuts ran along your hand from where the wood had rubbed it, and you’d only been holding it for ten minutes, so you suddenly felt very fragile. To Hyunjin, it seemed to be no problem though, and he carried it with ease.
He shook his head, walking alongside you, “No, you almost dropped it”
“I did not!” You gasped.
He laughed, throwing his head back, “You know, Yongbok would have been very upset if you destroyed all the alcohol before his party started”
Hana was staring at the two of you, eyebrows raised.
“Hey. I handle heavy stuff all the time at the shop. I’ll have you know that I am very capable”
“I’m sure you are” Hyunjin drawled, looking down at you.
You glanced up at him, feeling the sudden urge to tickle him for being a smartass, but you didn’t want him to accidentally drop the beer and hurt himself.
Most of his hair had come out of his ponytail, flying into his face, and you bit back a laugh as it stuck to his lips. You could tell how irritating it would be.
He couldn’t do anything, since his hands were preoccupied, and you teased, repeating his words from before, “Need a hand?”
Hyunjin rolled his eyes, but sighed, “Yes, I do actually”
You were about to reach up to fix his hair, but Hana suddenly stepped in front of you.
“I got it” She smiled sweetly, and reached up on her toes.
Hyunjin’s eyes widened, as she tucked his hair behind his ears.
He looked down at her, as you awkwardly watched them. She moved the strands of hair away, her fingers tracing his lips.
“All done” She announced.
Hana’s fingers lingered by his jaw, even after she’d fixed the hair, smiling up at him.
“Thank you” He spoke, sincere, eyes falling to you again.
She shrugged, “It’s the least I can do for… a friend, right?”
Hyunjin nodded, hiking the carton further up his waist, “Yeah”
“I’m really glad you came, Hyunjin, and that…we can be friends without things being awkward” She spoke, sweetly as her hand brushed his arm.
“I’m glad too” He sent her a smile.
“I’ll see you inside!” She waved.
Hana then ran up the stairs, probably still basking in the high from the caviar they had on the train, as she joined Minho inside the cabin.
You hugged yourself, feeling tenser now after the uncomfortable moment. You weren’t sure why it was uncomfortable, Hana had always been touchy with Hyunjin, but they weren’t together anymore.
What was she getting at?
The wind had picked up and Hyunjin deposited the carton on the top of the steps. He looked around, enjoying the sound of the waves, “This is so nice”
He walked over to the end of the porch that faced the ocean, and leaned against it, enjoying the sight.
The view was the last thing you were thinking about though, as you suddenly realised how much was left to be done. The state of the steps itself revealed just how improper the cabin was. Hopefully, some cute fairy-lights, plants and music could spruce the place up.
It’s like Hana’s actions had popped a pin through the very sweet bubble you were in with Hyunjin, but you were back to reality now.
“You better not be stressing out on my birthday weekend, Y/N” Yongbok mumbled, coming up next to you.
He had just got off the phone with his uncle about some ground rules, and thankfully that had made him miss the embarrassing moment where you had somehow third-wheeled Hana and Hyunjin yet again.
They weren’t even together anymore, yet it made you feel like you were intruding on their personal time.
You shook your head, “I’m not stressing at all”
“Really?” He squint at you, “You’re frowning. I know that look too well”
“I was just making a mental checklist of things we have to do before everyone arrives”
Yongbok rolled his eyes, wrapping his arm around your waist suddenly, “I don’t want you to be so stressed. The only thing on your checklist should be me.”
You laughed at his words, glancing at him, “This entire party is for you, Yongbok. What more could you want?”
He gazed at you, lips quirking cutely, “You”
You smiled, “You have me, Lix. Once I get all the prep done, I promise I’ll spend time with you”
“You will?”
“It’s your day, of course I will”
He frowned, pouting, “You better. Look around you, it’s such a beautiful place. All I need to have a good night is to get drunk with you, and swim in the ocean”
You laughed, raising an eyebrow, “So you wouldn’t throw a total tantrum if there was no huge party for you?”
He shrugged, “I would, but that’s not my point. I’m gonna make sure I get you drunk so you can finally relax, and enjoy it with me”
“I do enjoy with you” You emphasised, as a gust of wind blew hair into his eyes.
Felix shook his head, unbothered by the wind, “Mmmh but I don’t want the party planner version of Y/N tonight. I want just my favourite girl”
You frowned, “Well, your birthday only comes once a year. Let me enjoy planning it too, yeah?”
He closed his eyes, arm tightening on your waist, “Why do I let you do this to yourself every time?”
You laughed, “Because you love me”
He paused, sighing, and opened his eyes to look right at you, “Unfortunately, I do”
“Hey! There’s nothing unfortunate about that” You protested, wriggling out his grip.
He only pulled you closer, “Let me be the judge of that, Y/N. Loving you is very difficult”
His hold on you was making you lose your footing in the sand.
You put your hand on his chest to steady yourself, “Too bad, I’m your favourite person, you have to love me regardless”
“If you guys are done being gross, can we go inside?” Hana interrupted, stepping out of the cabin door. You glanced at her, and her less-than pleased expression as she stood with her hands on her hips.
Yongbok left his hold on your waist, stepping back, and sighed, “Yes, ma’am”
You laughed, as he dejectedly followed her into the cabin, his steps heavy on the fragile stairs.
Stepping up, you noticed Hyunjin was still out on the porch.
His hands rest on the railing, and instead of focusing on the ocean, his attention had been on the two of you.
He’d been listening to your entire conversation with Felix.
You smiled at him, “Coming in?”
He was looking at you, lost in thought.
“Hyun?” You asked, when he didn’t answer.
He nodded lightly, “Yup”
He didn’t return your smile though, eyes heavy with an emotion you couldn’t recognise, and you wonder what suddenly happened to make him act this way.
»»————-
“Did you guys know the last time I was here, I got my cherry popped?”
You looked up at Hana at those words, knowing the truth behind them, but still not wanting to be reminded of them at 4 in the afternoon. Yeonjun had been your best friend too, so you didn’t want to think of them sleeping together.
“Hana! What the fuck?” Yongbok groaned.
She giggled, “I thought you knew. You gave me and Yeonjun a room together. What did you expect?”
You glanced up at her again, surprised she brought him up with so much ease. She had been near tears on the train when talking about him, but you weren’t sure if those tears were for Hyunjin or for her past lover.
“Just please tell me you didn’t do it on the couch” Yongbok mumbled.
Hana burst into laughter again, and you went back to preparing the drink for tonight.
Setting up the cabin was a tough task, but making sure Minho didn’t ruin it all over again was an even tougher one. Somehow he’d found a cat on the beach, bringing her in and she’d already clawed her way through half the couch.
“Min…Yongbok’s uncle will be pissed” You reminded him, over your shoulder.
He was laughing, chasing after her, “As if he even cares about this place”
He was right, so you gave up, turning your attention back to the kitchen counter. You would hate to admit it to him, but the kitten was cute and her mewls provided a nice sound to work with.
Pouring the tequila into the bowl, you wanted to make sure the punch was potent enough, but still fruity.
It was the recipe you’d been using at parties for years, and it was always a favourite.
Stirring it slightly with a ladle, you looked up at Hana to check on the progress.
She was stood on top of a rickety ladder, attaching a string of lights to the ceiling, as Yongbok stood underneath, balancing it with one hand, and drinking with the other.
The kitten obviously chose that moment to run to him, and he groaned as she tried to jump on him, “Minho, your cat is going to be the death of Hana”
Hana didn’t seem afraid of the imminent threat brought by the cat though. She taped up the edge of the lights, and from where you stood, you could see under her skirt, catching a glimpse of her pink thong.
You’re pretty sure Hyunjin could see it too, almost as if it was meant for him.
He stood at the other end of the kitchen island, taking out the paper cups from their wrapping, working quietly.
He was focused, even though the task required no focus.
He’d been quiet ever since you’d come to the cabin, and you wanted to ask him if everything was okay. He had been completely fine on the train, and the longer that he didn’t speak, the more your heart clenched.
You hope nothing you did had upset him.
You don’t think you could handle him being upset at you.
Maybe you should apologise, even though you didn’t know what you did wrong.
Or maybe you were overthinking and it was just awkwardness from being here. After all, he was the newest person to the group, and all these traditions were alien to him. He’d never come to the cabin before, and he must not like it too much.
You didn’t want him to feel out of place at all, especially after he said he’d only felt comfortable to come on this trip because of you.
The memory of his words made your heart flutter.
So you spoke, “Hyun, could you taste this and tell me if it’s okay?”
He looked up at you, surprise in his eyes.
He seemed confused that you’d called him, and you wonder how immersed he really had been in those red paper cups.
You raised your eyebrows expectantly, gesturing to the bowl of punch before you.
A look of realisation crossed his face, “Ah. I’m not really a connoisseur of alcohol. I doubt I’ll be much help, Y/N”
“Neither is anybody coming to this party. Just tell me if this tastes nice?”
“Are my ears ringing or did Y/N just call him Hyun?” Minho spoke. He was still stood by the couch, trying to pry the kitten away.
You flushed, forgetting they were all listening, “So what if I did?”
“That’s an interesting nickname” Hana pointed out, as she made her way down the ladder, holding Yongbok’s hand to stay steady.
You briefly noticed the fairy lights were up, and they already brightened the place up a lot.
“I mean, it’s just his name shortened” You said, matter-of-factly, “Not much interesting about it”
Hyunjin stepped up to you, looking down at the bowl, “How should I taste it?”
“Oh, here” You lifted a spoonful of punch to his mouth, keeping your palm underneath so it didn’t spill and his eyes widened at the gesture.
He stared at it, as if unsure.
“What? You can steal my marshmallow but you can’t try some alcohol?” You laughed, referring to the time he’d eaten it right out of your hands.
You were only trying to lighten his mood, and make him feel more involved.
That caught Yongbok’s attention though, “Her marshmallow? So it’s a common occurrence for Y/N to spoon-feed you?”
He looked at Yongbok, an unreadable expression on his face.
Hyunjin turned red at his words, and stepped back, “Not really”
You stared at him, wondering why he was so conscious all of a sudden. The liquid was spilling out of the spoon anyway, so you dipped it back in the bowl.
Had you somehow creeped him out?
“I’ll just taste it myself” He decided, lifting it up to his mouth, and closed his eyes to savour the taste.
“So, is it good?” You asked.
He nodded, “It is. Maybe a bit too much alcohol though”
“All right” You emptied more cranberry juice into the bowl, stirring it again, “Try it now”
He dove in with his spoon, humming as he tasted it, “It’s perfect, Y/N”
Hana and Yongbok were watching the two of you from the other side of the kitchen island, eyes curious. Hana’s gaze, in particular, bore into you, and at moments like this you wish you could just read her mind. She seemed amused.
You swallowed the punch in your mouth, and ended up asking, “What?”
She shrugged, casual, “Nothing. I’m just surprised you guys are friends now”
“What do you mean?” You turned to fully face her, resting your hands on the counter.
What was so surprising about that?
“I mean…me and Hyunjin aren’t together anymore. You don’t have to pretend”
Your eyebrows shot up, “Pretend?”
Hana hummed, leaning forward on the kitchen island, and you could see under her shirt as she did so, the matching pink bra on show.
Well, you think the display was more for Hyunjin than for you anyway. He was stood right next to you, getting a very clear view inside her shirt.
That wasn’t your concern right now though, it was the words she’d just spoken.
She looked at Hyunjin, speaking to him now, “The only reason she talked to you, and spent so much time getting to know you was because I asked her”
“Hana-”
She chuckled, “I remember how much she hated hanging out with you at the start, until I convinced her to give you a chance”
Hyunjin’s gaze darted to yours at that, eyes uncertain.
You kept your eyes on Hana though, wondering why the hell she would say something like that.
You didn’t want Hyunjin to think this, when he already seemed upset with you for some reason.
A reason you couldn’t even understand.
“That’s…not true, Hana” You spoke, voice steady.
“It’s not?” She tilted her head, then looked to Yongbok, “Don’t you remember how wary she was of him? How she told me that just because he’s famous doesn’t mean he’s a good person etc etc?”
You hope she was joking now, because you’d said that to her in a completely different context. Even she obviously knew that.
It was after the Bowling Alley date, when Hana had talked about looking him up, and she was convinced that he was the love of her life, even though she’d only met him once.
She’d told you that nothing could possibly go wrong, because he was ‘famous’ and you’d reminded her that famous people can mess up too.
This…is not what you had meant.
You had never meant that Hyunjin wasn’t a good person.
“I guess I remember” Yongbok shrugged, more focused on the chips, than this conversation.
“That’s not what I meant though, Hana” You spoke.
You could feel Hyunjin’s discomfort, next to you.
She laughed, holding her hands up in surrender, “I know, I know. It’s just funny to me seeing you two close now. Such a contrast from the first time. Being my wingwoman really came in handy”
Your eyes widened, but you didn’t want this to escalate, so you kept yourself calm, “I guess”
“Although Hyunjin and Y/N have more in common than you two did” Minho pointed to her, “Even if Y/N wasn’t your wingwoman, they’d probably still be best friends”
She laughed, “I know! I’m so glad you guys are friends now. Aren’t you?”
She stared at you, and you realised she genuinely wanted you to answer.
“Yeah, I am…” You spoke, unsure of why this conversation was even happening.
Hana smiled, “You’re welcome, babe”
“We still have a lot of work left to do before the party, don’t we?” Felix stepped in before you could say something.
Hana rolled her eyes, facing him, “Oh, now you’re interested in helping out?”
“At least that’ll be more productive than whatever discussion you two were just having”
Hana sighed, “Fine. I’ll help you out, but it’s only because I love you and it’s your birthday weekend”
There may have been some truth to Hana’s words, which is what irked you more than anything.
You did avoid Hyunjin at first when he came back to town, but it was only because he was so intimidating, and because he was the boy you’d wondered about since you were fifteen.
Was she right?
Would you not have talked to him if she hadn’t pushed you?
Your first few conversations with him had been because she wanted you to find out more about him.
But all of the things you’d talked to him about, all the questions you’d asked him had been for yourself, not for Hana’s benefit.
It was because you genuinely wanted to know him, and cared about him.
You had to tell him this, before he interpret it wrongly, but you’d wait for Hana to be out of earshot. You weren’t sure how she’d react.
She followed Minho and Yongbok out of the cabin, to get things ready for the bonfire, effectively leaving you alone with Hyunjin.
As soon as she left, you turned to him, “Hyunjin, about what she said-”
He interrupted you, voice stable, unlike how you felt right now, “We should get done with the prep first”
He then walked back to the paper cups, away from you, as he began working again.
You almost gave in, but this conversation was much more important than the party.
He was right to want to finish the prep first, because people were supposed to arrive by seven, and there was still work to be done, but Hana’s words were wrong and Hyunjin needed to know that.
He couldn’t possibly believe that you were only friends with him because of Hana.
“No, Hyunjin” You said, stepping to him, “We can do that later”
He looked up at you, surprised, “But the guests-“
Your heart was pounding, and you knew then that what Hyunjin thought of you was more important than anything at the moment.
It was a frightening realisation, because when did you start caring so much about this?
But you did care.
And there was no way you would let him think that.
“I don’t care about the party right now, Hyunjin. I need to talk to you” You insisted.
His eyes shifted over you, and he nodded silently.
You swallowed, “About what Hana said…I never…hated you. I may have been wary of you, but only because she was my best friend and she had her heart broken, it had nothing to do with who you are as a person. I genuinely- ”
“Y/N…” Hyunjin interrupted, eyes wide, “You don’t have to explain anything to me”
“I do have to explain, because that just isn’t true. What I said about famous people, I didn’t mean it regarding you-”
His eyebrows flitted together, voice becoming softer now, “I know that, Y/N. Of course, I know that”
Your shoulders relaxed, frantic heart calming down.
He knew that.
“Okay, because…that’s the truth” You mumbled, now feeling stupid for panicking about this. Hyunjin was his own person, it’s not like he would believe anything someone told him.
Even if that someone was Hana, a girl he almost dated.
“I’m sure she was only kidding” He spoke, sending you a soft smile.
You nodded, still feeling the residual panic. That entire conversation put you on edge. You’d never forgive yourself if you somehow offended him.
He stared at you, eyes shifting over your figure, and the oven dinged.
You jumped, startled by the sound.
“The… sausages. They’re ready” You stated, moving around the island to check the oven.
As soon as you’d arrived at the cabin, Minho had prepared pigs-in-a-blanket, the best comfort food to exist. The pastry had baked, and the sausages were cooked so you grabbed the tray, placing it on the counter.
Hyunjin was still staring at you, confused by your demeanour.
“Y/N, you’re not upset, right? About what Hana said?” His voice was soft, as he asked you that.
“I’m not” You said automatically, looking up at him.
After all, why should you be upset when Hyunjin had already told you there was nothing to worry about?
But of course, you were still tense, not liking the implication that you’d somehow ‘used’ your bond with Hyunjin to set him up with Hana.
He didn’t seem convinced, his lips tugging up.
“I’m just stressed about the party I guess…” You mumbled, poking the pastry to see if it was cooked.
Truthfully, your heart was racing, and you were irritated.
But it was more than just Hana and her words. Hana had nothing to do with it.
You realised that you never, ever wanted to do something that could potentially hurt Hyunjin.
You cared about him too much, and your chest hurt from just the thought of him being upset because of you.
He sighed, hand suddenly reaching forward to grab your own, “Well, we’re all here to help you with that”
You looked up at him in surprise.
Hyunjin was holding your hand as if it was the simplest thing in the world.
His hand was heavy, and warm on yours.
It was comforting.
It was intentional.
It was just what you needed.
His thumb brushed circles on your skin, sending tingles across your arm, and you wonder if he knew just how badly you had wanted to hold his hand before.
“I know…” You swallowed. He obviously knew you weren’t just stressed about the party.
“Y/N, you can be honest with me. You know that, right?” He spoke, tilting his head at you.
You softened at his words, and the gentleness in his eyes.
You nodded, “I just don’t like the idea of you thinking that about me, I thought I upset you”
“Y/N. I’m not stupid. You think just because Hana makes a joke about something, I’m gonna change my entire opinion of you?”
“I don’t know…maybe”
He squeezed your hand, “Well, I won’t. I like to think what we have is more than just all that”
“All that?” You asked.
He hummed, “Hana…and the whole wingwoman thing. It doesn’t really affect the way I see you. Even if I didn’t know her, I’m pretty sure I’d come in to Aera’s everyday to annoy you about my drawings”
“But you haven’t even talked to me ever since we came to the Cabin” You blurted.
His eyebrows shot up, “Oh”
“What oh?”
“I didn’t think you’d notice that”
“Of course I would”
He sighed, leaving his grip on your hand, much to your disappointment, “Well, it’s just…This is your and Yongbok’s weekend. I kind of felt like I was intruding”
“It’s not just our weekend, I wanted you to be here too”
He nodded, “I know, I just kind of… feel like I’m in the way”
Your eyebrow quirked, “In the way of what?”
“In the way of me and you, of course” Yongbok’s cheerful voice interrupted, as he sauntered through the living room, hands dirty with coal from the fire.
“Lix” You spoke, distracted yet again by the imminent party, “Is the bonfire all set up?”
He walked over to you, “Mmhh. It’s gonna be really warm, so you should come out and enjoy it”
He reached out to grab you, and you immediately stepped away, “Don’t touch me with those hands!”
He laughed, resting his head in his coal-stained hands, “You’re so mean, you’re gonna change out of these clothes anyway!”
You crossed your arms, “How do you know I’m not already dressed?”
Yongbok’s gaze trailed over your jeans, and simple jacket, what you’d been wearing on the train, “I hope that’s not what you’re wearing tonight, but yeah, everyone is about to arrive. I didn’t know you invited Seonghwa too”
“You guys talk about movies together all the time, I thought you’d like him here. Plus you know how San is, always attached to the hip with Seonghwa”
Yongbok laughed, “You’re right, and now that he’s been hooking up with Lily, it’ll be very interesting”
“San’s hooking up with Lily again?” You asked.
Yongbok laughed, “They’re too complicated for me to understand, but yeah San texted me that they’re at the station, so you should go get dressed”
His gaze then drifted to Hyunjin, “That goes for you too, Hyunjin”
“Right. Sure” Hyunjin nodded, he’d just added toothpicks to each mini-sausage.
The Cabin was almost ready, fairy-lights hung in every corner of the room, and all of the food was laid out on the table, along with the drinks and mixers.
“Also you’re not intruding on this weekend” Yongbok added, making Hyunjin look up at him, “I know we may not know each other that well, but…you’re a good person. And if you’re going to be best friends with Y/N…I guess we have to warm up to each other soon, don’t we?”
Hyunjin nodded, “Yeah, of course. Thanks, Yongbok”
“Did you listen in to our entire conversation?” You narrowed your eyes at him.
He laughed, “Not on purpose! I just came in to tell you to get ready, and then I overheard you”
“That’s not suspicious at all” You laughed.
Felix looked at Hyunjin again, “Make sure you look extra hot tonight. Now that you and Hana are over, there’s some cute girls I’d like you to meet”
“Lix…” You sighed, nudging him in the stomach.
“What?” He laughed, “I doubt anybody is going to be looking at me when Hwang Hyunjin is at my party”
“That’s not true. Shut up” You told him.
“I’m not complaining!” Felix smiled, and then turned to Hyunjin, “I’m glad you decided to come, man”
Hyunjin was red, his gaze on you and Felix, and he nodded, “Of course. Thanks for letting me be a part of this”
“Y/N would never forgive me if I didn’t” Felix laughed.
Hyunjin looked at you, lips pulling into a fond smile, “Yeah. I know”
You flushed, embarrassed by what Felix had said, but it was the truth.
Felix’s birthday weekend was so important to you, but now that Hyunjin was here…it somehow became even more special.
»»————-
The party was now in full swing, only you hadn’t gotten to experience it yet.
You could hear loud music from downstairs, a playlist of Felix’s favourite songs ringing through the speaker.
Hana needed your help getting dressed, so you were still upstairs. You looked out of the window, perched on the ledge as she zipped up her dress.
The sun had set by now.
A lot of people had arrived, and you were glad to know nobody had turned down the invite, their laughter drowning out the loud sea. Yongbok had even gotten the bonfire started, but despite all that, you were still in the room with Hana, instead of with him.
“God, are you sure I don’t look terrible?” She asked, staring at herself in the mirror.
You turned to look at her.
“You look amazing, Hana” You said, honestly.
She was in a tight white dress, backless and very short, a belt cinching at the waist. You were still a bit upset with her because of your conversation earlier, but now was not the time to talk about it. You wanted to enjoy tonight, and not bring up any potential drama.
“Great enough to be banged by someone?”
“What?” You fumbled.
“Tonight is the perfect place to hook up” She explained, casually.
Your eyebrows shot up, “You’re going to hook up with someone? Who?”
“I don’t know. Anybody who will make me feel hot and relevant”
“I don’t understand”
Hana laughed, putting down the eyelash curler, “Don’t worry, it’s not like I’m gonna look for the love of my life again. I learned my lesson last time”
You hadn’t expected her to say that. “What? What lesson?”
“You know…I was so optimistic before, that I’d fall in love with someone new and everything…I kind of feel stupid about it now”
“It’s okay to be optimistic, there’s nothing wrong with that, Hana”
She stared at her reflection some more, and you wish you knew what was going on in her head. Ever since Hyunjin had come back to town, you hadn’t been able to figure her out. She was so difficult to read, and her actions confused you even more.
The entire time she was with Hyunjin, she believed that she was destined to be with him, but then why did she feel no remorse or regret now?
It was such a strong feeling to believe that you’re fated to be with someone.
You’d never felt that way before, but you’re sure you wouldn’t have been able to move on from it as quickly as she did.
She sighed, blowing a puff of hair away from her face, “I have to tell you something”
“What is it?”
“I realised that I’m not over Yeonjun…I guess I never was”
“Oh”
She glanced at you, “You knew that already though, didn’t you?”
“I had a feeling, but I wasn’t sure”
“Hyunjin was a great distraction” She laughed, “But…he’s not the love of my life, obviously. I mean even my best friend gets along with him more than me”
“I’m sorry”
“You don’t have to apologise…” She sighed, sitting on the bed, “I’m sorry for what I said before, I guess I was just upset that nothing ever works out for me”
“Hana, what are you talking about?” You sat down next to her.
“I mean, Yeonjun left me, and then Hyunjin left me”
Your heart softened, and you grabbed her hand, “But wasn’t your decision with Hyunjin mutual?”
“It was, because he lives in the city anyway. It’s never gonna work out between us. I was silly for thinking it would, and I kept thinking of Yeonjun anytime that I was with him, I guess I was comparing them? Plus, Hyunjin doesn’t want a serious relationship anyway…but don’t worry because time I spent with him was good. He’s so hot”
You smiled, “I’m glad it was"
She laid down on the bed, voice dropping lower, “I really thought I don’t care about him anymore, Y/N. But ever since you told me that you saw Yeonjun, I can’t get him out of my head”
“I’m sorry” You spoke, sincerely, squeezing her hand.
She let out another breath, staring at the ceiling, “Don’t be sorry. That’s why I’m fucking someone tonight. Maybe I’ll stop looking for Yeonjun in every boy I kiss, after I’ve kissed like a hundred boys”
You laughed, “That’s honestly the worst way to deal with a break up, Hana…”
She sat up immediately, “Do you think I should fuck Hyunjin?”
Your eyes widened, chest squeezing suddenly, “What?”
“I mean, he doesn’t want a serious relationship, so that means he’s okay with casual stuff. He’s gone out with me on so many dates, which means he’s obviously attracted to me, so…it’s perfect! What do you think?”
“I don’t know” You spoke, voice deflating.
Hana stared at you, and the sudden change in your mood, “You’re the wrong person to ask for advice on hooking up”
Your brows creased together, “Why?”
She laughed, “When was the last time you even kissed a boy? Much less, fucked one?”
You stared at her, knowing she was right.
It had been over a year since you’d kissed someone, and you did miss the feeling.
“This whole time, you’ve been helping me with Hyunjin, but maybe I should help you now!”
Your stomach hurt with the mention of that, “What do you mean?”
“I mean, you need to fuck someone tonight”
You let out a laugh at how ridiculous her idea was, “I don’t know about that”
“Is there nobody you’re physically attracted to?” She asked.
You only thought of Hyunjin, but you shook the thought away, for obvious reasons.
“I don’t know”
Hana pulled you closer, “I’m sure there’s at least one person downstairs who’d be into you! We just need to find them!”
This was about making you feel better, but then why did you feel so much worse?
You sighed, “Tonight is about Yongbok, though”
“Then sleep with him!” She squealed.
Your eyes widened, “Hana…”
“Come on! The boy worships you, and I’m sure he thinks you’re pretty. He’s said it a couple of times I think”
You squeezed your eyes shut.
You did not like this conversation or how it was going.
You did not like to wonder if Yongbok or anybody else in your life thought you were pretty, you usually tried not to think about stuff like that. It was a slippery slope with your confidence and self esteem.
You were very confident about your art, most times at least, but when it came to stuff like this? You tried not to think about it.
“Come on, Y/N. It’ll be so fun. At least kiss someone tonight” She spoke, making you look at her.
You sighed, “I’ll see, I guess. I’m not gonna force anything to happen”
She nodded, “Of course, you don’t need to throw yourself at anyone, that would be embarrassing”
“Yeah”
She leaned forward, “But for something to happen, we need to change what you’re wearing”
“What should I wear then?” You asked her, curious what she had in mind.
“I have something for you” She jumped up, ripping open her duffel bag.
Five minutes later, you stood in front of the mirror, staring at yourself.
“This…is not my style at all”
“Shut up, you look so hot!”
You were in Hana’s crop top, but it was too tight, and too short. The top’s strings stretched across your stomach, revealing your skin all the way down. The matching skirt was cute yeah, but also very short.
“Where did you buy this from? The kid’s section? Why is it so small?” You asked, tugging your skirt down.
Hana rolled her eyes, “The point is that it’s supposed to be short. Guys love looking at thighs”
You shot her a look, “This isn’t comfortable at all”
“Do you wanna be comfortable or do you wanna be fucked mindless?”
You stared at her, “Hana…”
“If you love me, you will wear this” She said, and then grabbed the dress you’d been wearing before, “I’m throwing this out anyway so you don’t have an option”
The outfit Hana had picked for you was undoubtedly beautiful, but it was too revealing, and far too out there for you.
Loud laughter ensued from outside.
You were missing all the fun.
The party you’d spent weeks planning had started, but you were still upstairs with Hana.
“Please? Do it for me?” She pouted.
You were too tired to argue with her, and you needed to be at the party already.
“All right” You sighed, tightening the straps so it didn’t fall open.
She squealed, jumping to hug you, “This is why I love you so much. You always make me happy”
You looked at yourself in the mirror once again, before heading downstairs.
The crop top was so fucking tight, and barely left anything to the imagination, squeezing your chest. The strings tied across your entire stomach, disappearing into the little skirt which barely covered your ass.
This was certainly an interesting choice, and you’d never pick something like this for yourself.
But alas, what Hana wants is what Hana gets.
»»————-
There were only a few hours left until midnight, and you had no idea where Yongbok was.
Stepping downstairs, you noticed how different the Cabin looked when it wasn’t completely empty. You felt much like a proud host, as you walked into the living room, which looked just perfect for a party of this scale.
Pop music filled the room, blaring from every tiny speaker Minho had propped up, and groups of people stood around, drinking and dancing.
Lit up only by the glow of the bonfire outside, and the multi-coloured strings of lights, the entire living room was dim. It was perfect for tonight though, setting up an atmosphere that people would wanna let loose in.
After a glance to the kitchen, you realised just how popular the snacks had been, and three bowls of finger-food had already finished, and replaced with more chips, and mini-sausages. You were surprised Minho remembered to do that, you’d thought he’d be too busy with his friends to notice small details like that.
The wooden floor was sticky, residue of various spilled drinks under your sandals. The Cabin had seen its fair share of parties, and survived through all of the usual destruction teenagers caused it.
You shot smiles through the crowd, recognising almost everybody there. Yongbok had a lot of friends, and he knew a lot of people, a fact manifested by the amount of people in the living room currently. From his friends from grade school, to people he’d partied with at the Daejon club, or a waitress he’d flirted with a few times at The Grove, every person who loved him in any sense, was here.
In a small town, you never really grew apart from people, and so the guest list for a social butterfly like Yongbok was massive.
Your top was too tight, making it hard to breath, and you hugged yourself, feeling conscious. Still, you couldn’t help but feel good as you felt a few longing stares at you.
Sure, you weren’t a huge fan of parties, but you did enjoy this. The flashing lights were pretty, casting circular patterns all across the floor, and you felt proud of the fact that everyone seemed to be having a good time.
You think that Yongbok was out by the bonfire, since you couldn’t spot him in the room. You couldn’t see Minho or Hana either. Hana had come downstairs just a few minutes before you, leaving you in the room to get used to this ridiculously short skirt, but she was lost in the crowd now, and you wonder who her target for tonight was.
She’d seemed really intent on hooking up.
You wonder if she’d already found the person she wanted, and if she had just been joking about it being Hyunjin, or if she really was serious.
Regardless who it was, you wanted to enjoy tonight and not think about her plans.
Tonight meant so much to you, and you’d looked forward to it for so long.
“Y/N!” A familiar voice yelled, tapping your shoulder. You turned to see Eunbi and her friend, Seonmi Kim.
“Ah! If it isn’t my favourite waitress!” You told Seonmi.
“And if it isn’t my favorite customer!” She replied, stepping closer to you, and engulfing you in a short hug.
“Where’s my hug?” Eunbi frowned.
“You can get a hug when you make Y/N coffee everyday” Seonmi told her.
Eunbi rolled her eyes, “If I get paid for it like you do, sure”
You laughed, “You guys look amazing”
They had neon pink hearts painted on their cheeks, and dipping necklines. Seonmi’s hair curled perfectly around her face, and she looked beautiful.
“Not as hot as you!” Seonmi exclaimed, reaching over to pull at the strings on your stomach.
You laughed, pushing her hand away, “Do not undress me in the middle of the living room”
“A top like that is made to be taken off” Eunbi pointed out.
“Wow” You chuckled, “You guys are really helping my self esteem right now”
“Well, you hardly ever dress up like that, sorry I’m just gay” Eunbi chuckled.
You laughed, lifting the hem of your skirt, “Well, Hana put me in this”
“You know, it’s concerning that the only time we hang out is at parties” Eunbi sighed, leaning in so you could hear her better.
“Sorry, I’ve been so busy recently” You apologised, “Are you guys having a good time though?”
“This is amazing” Seonmi exclaimed, “When Felix told me he’s having the party at the cabin, I wasn’t sure because I know it can be a shitshow, but wow, you really brought his uncle’s place to life”
“Bitch, you only came because Hwang Hyunjin was coming” Eunbi commented.
Seonmi gasped at being called out like that, and you laughed, looking around, “Did you guys see him yet?”
“See him? She was practically drooling over him! I had to stop her before she asked for an autograph and made a fool out of us” Eunbi spoke.
You laughed, “Well, I’m sure he wouldn’t mind, but thank you for not asking him”
“Of course”
“Your makeup is so cute” You pointed out, referring to the hearts scattered across their cheeks.
“Wait, let me do it for you!” Seonmi said, uncapping a purple marker from her purse.
“In the middle of all this?” You laughed, gesturing to the tons of people dancing and drinking around you.
“It’ll only take a second. You’ll look so cute with it” She spoke, grabbing your jaw in her hands. You let her, as she tilted your head, starting to draw a little heart on your cheekbone.
“Drink this while she does it, you need to get wasted pronto” Eunbi added, pushing a shot glass into your hands.
Since you couldn’t see what was in it, occupied by the scribbling on your face, you asked, “What’s in it?”
“Just some tequila” She replied.
You laughed, “Starting my night with some tequila right off the bat. That’s gonna end well”
Eunbi left her hold on you, so you could tip your head back and swallow the drink. It was sour, and bitter, but it left a good aftertaste in your mouth, and you savoured it, as she began drawing again.
The drink had gone straight to your head, and you knew it’d be easy to get drunk tonight.
You giggled at the sensation of the pen on your skin.
“Stay still, Y/N!” Eunbi scolded, tipping your head to the side.
You rolled your eyes at her seriousness, letting her manhandle you. Your gaze wandered over the rest of the party. This was not the right place to be doing a task so delicate, as groups of people moved around you, but oh well.
Eyes scanning over the familiar faces, you wondered where your friends were.
Well…you wanted to know where Hyunjin was. You didn’t even know what he was wearing tonight, for the party, and you hope that he was having a good time.
You didn’t have to wonder for long, since your eyes landed on him almost instantly.
You froze at the sight, breath catching in your throat.
He was stood at the other end, leaning against a wall, drinking from a paper cup.
It was no wonder you could spot him so quickly.
Anybody would be drawn to him, and it was as if he was the only person in the entire room.
He looked insanely gorgeous.
You’d never seen him look like this before, at least not in person. He looked just like the pictures he’d shown you in the morning, but seeing this in person was just...a completely different experience.
Why did he look so good?
Had he always looked this good?
He’d slicked his hair to the side, so it was tucked behind an ear, and he was in a black shirt, which hugged his body so well, accentuating every curve of his arm and chest.
Multiple silver necklaces rested against his chest, and his hands were adorned with the usual bracelets, and rings, sparkling under the lights.
His hair suddenly reminded you of a dream you’d had a few days ago; a dream that you thought you’d forgot until just now, and it suddenly came back to you in flashes, making you feel hot all over.
The dream had been…interesting, and you’d woken up with a jolt, wondering when the hell you started dreaming about kissing boys with long hair.
Anyway.
Right now, he looked so good, in the way that he stood, and carried himself. His sleeves were pushed up to his forearms, and he was laughing in the prettiest way.
That tequila must have been far too strong for you to be thinking this stuff right now, and your eyes drifted over his entire figure.
His pants were so tight, too tight, and your mouth went dry.
You shouldn’t be looking at his pants in the first place. What was wrong with you?
You needed to hydrate yourself.
“I need a drink” You told them.
“You can get it when after I’m done” Eunbi spoke, laser-focused on the scribble on your face.
Hyunjin was talking to someone, a cute girl, but his eyes kept drifting away from her, as if he was searching for something.
You recognised the girl. She was Yongbok’s friend from baking class, and she seemed so excited talking to him.
Hyunjin laughed at her words.
You wanted to make him laugh too.
You kind of expected Hana to be all up in him after what she’d told you upstairs, and you were surprisingly glad she wasn’t here.
“Are you done?” You asked Eunbi, impatient now that you’d spotted him.
“Almost!” She squealed, coloring the heart in.
“Hurry up, Eunbi” You spoke, squirming. You wanted to talk to Hyunjin right now, before he moved away and you couldn’t find him again.
“Geez, why are you so impatient? Are you drunk already?” She laughed.
“I have to talk to-” You trailed off, when Hyunjin’s gaze suddenly landed on you.
Your heart jumped when your eyes met.
The girl next to Hyunjin was still talking, but he was looking at you.
His eyes were wide, and you felt kind of stupid standing here as Eunbi drew a heart on your cheek in the middle of the party, but then he smiled at you.
It was different from all the other times he’d smiled at you.
You didn’t know why. Maybe because he was in a crowded room full of pretty girls, even standing right next to one, but still chose to look at you, and his smile was devoid of the usual tenderness, replaced with something much more…carnal.
You felt the impact of it, all the way across the room, and your legs felt suddenly weak.
You think that you imagined it…but then his eyes fell to your waist.
To the black strings that wrapped around your bare skin, cinching it.
His gaze trailed over you, from your tight-fitting top, to the skirt that barely covered your ass, and you definitely didn’t imagine the way his mouth slightly parted.
He covered it up immediately by lifting the drink to his mouth again, chewing at the rim, eyes still on yours.
You wish that it had just been in your head, because you weren’t sure how to react when Hyunjin looked at you like that.
Eunbi was holding your face in place, so you couldn’t even look away from him and obviously you didn’t really want to.
Your fingers tapped against your bare thigh, and you weren’t sure what to do with your body right now. You felt impatient, and restless, and like you needed to drink a lot of alcohol right now.
You let yourself look at him too.
His pants hugged his thighs perfectly, far too tight in the crotch, and the shirt-
No, Hyunjin was your friend.
More importantly, he was Hana’s…someone.
But, you would be stupid if you said that you didn’t find him attractive.
Hadn’t Hana mentioned that Yongbok thought you were pretty too? So, it was completely okay to be platonically attracted to people.
Friends could be attracted to other friends.
It was normal.
But you weren’t sure if it was normal to want to rip off your friend’s clothes.
Especially when you were in the middle of a party that you’d organised for your other best friend, and when there was no way that Hyunjin would be okay with you ripping his clothes off.
God, what the hell were you even thinking?
This was Hyunjin you were talking about -- Hana’s almost-ex Hyunjin, famous idol from Seoul Hyunjin, your friend Hyunjin. Since when did you start thinking this way about him, or much less anybody?
You hope nobody in this room could read minds, because you’d truly be ashamed right now.
“Who the hell are you eye-fucking right now?” Seonmi’s voice interrupted, and you immediately turned to her, flushing.
“What?”
Her gaze followed the direction you’d been looking, till she saw Hyunjin, “Oh. That explains it”
“I was not doing anything!” You replied, hoping he couldn’t read lips, “Are you done yet, Eunbi?”
“Sure, you weren’t. As if your knees did not just go weak at the sight”
You narrowed your eyes, feeling embarrassed, but she was right.
You felt dizzy, which was insane. You didn’t know it was possible for someone to be so attractive, that they made you dizzy from just the sight.
“I’m done now!” Eunbi announced proudly, stepping away from you and leaving her hold on your face, “You look adorable”
“Thanks” You laughed, looking at her, wanting to reach up to touch the heart, but then it would smudge.
She capped her marker, pushing it in her pocket, “You know, I would question you about drooling over Hana’s boyfriend, but I just saw her making out with someone too, so who am I to judge?”
“What? Who was she making out with?”
“I don’t know. I didn’t see his face. Maybe Sam”
“Oh, and Hyunjin and Hana aren’t together anymore” You explained, not wanting her to think that Hana cheated on him, “I mean, they never really got to the dating stage. They were just seeing each other”
“You know, as you explain all of this useless backstory to us, he’s staring at you, so I think you should go talk to him” Seonmi said.
You suddenly felt conscious, and nervous to talk to him, so you stole a glance at him again.
The girl next to him was still talking, and he was paying attention to her, but his eyes kept drifting to you too.
Your heart rate quickened just from the way he looked at you. He was probably just thankful he found someone he knew at the party, instead of a stranger.
“Yeah, I’ll see you guys around!” You told them, walking away, “Thank you for the heart!”
Eunbi and Seonmi laughed, before disappearing into the crowd.
You made your way up to Hyunjin, navigating carefully through people who were in the way. As you came closer, his eyes lit up and he said something to the girl. She waved at him, before walking away, leaving Hyunjin all by himself.
You wonder what he said to her.
“Hi” You breathed, stepping closer to him.
“Hey” He grinned, eyes crinkling.
You knew that Hyunjin was pretty in the sunlight, but he was even prettier at nighttime, in a dark room, shadows falling across his face, highlighting the sharpness of his features.
It was just physical attraction, you needed to calm yourself down.
You’d obviously known he was handsome all this time, but you weren’t sure why all of the emotions were suddenly bubbling to the surface now. You’d thought he was good-looking every day that you’d known him, but why did it suddenly feel hard to breathe right now, being so close to him?
Was it because you’d got to know him so well over the past weeks?
Was it because he chose to sat next to you on the train today, and told you all about his life, all giggles and blushes as he recounted the stories that he swore only you knew?
Was it because he took you all the way to another town to help you with Yongbok’s gift?
He was just being a good friend, and those were all reasons which should be mutually exclusive from how sinfully attractive he looked right now.
It was normal to be physically attracted to a friend, but it was not normal to dwell on all the nice things he’d done for you.
Your chest was hurting, but not in a bad way, and you smiled at him, “You’re still here”
Hyunjin laughed loudly and suddenly, “You expected me to run away?”
“You did tell me you hate parties” You shrugged, stepping next to him.
“Here” Hyunjin pushed his other hand forward, which held another red cup, filled to the brim with the cranberry punch you’d prepared.
“Whose drink is that?” You peered into it, “Did you steal that girl’s drink?”
Hyunjin laughed, “No, it’s yours. I was saving it for you”
You glanced up at him, “You didn’t have to do that”
He rolled his eyes, “Yes I did, because you took so long upstairs, and then you spent like an hour getting stuff drawn on your face!”
You laughed, “It was five minutes, don’t be dramatic. Eunbi really wanted to draw a heart on me”
He chuckled, leaning in closer to see what she’d drawn, “It’s cute”
“Thanks”
Then his hand suddenly came up to touch it, and you squirmed, “You’ll ruin it, Hyun!”
He laughed, thumb tracing the pattern on your cheekbone, “No, I’m not. It’s permanent ink”
“What?” Your eyes widened, “It is?”
He laughed, fingers tracing your cheekbone, and you tried to focus on his words instead of his actions.
You could feel his breath on your face, from how close he was standing, and his hands on your face sent tingles down your spine.
“Don’t worry, I know how to get it out. I’ll help you when the party’s over” He giggled, “I’ve learnt quite a lot about makeup in my job”
You sighed, “This is why I always stay away from permanent ink”
“Well, acetone or alcohol works really well” He spoke, hand moving away from your face.
You laughed, “Tell that to Yongbok. I once drew on his hand, and he was convinced that spit was the only way to get it out”
Hyunjin chuckled, “Well I’m glad it’s not, or else I would have to lick it off your face”
Your eyes widened at his words, and it seemed like Hyunjin just realised what he said too.
Your stomach felt funny, so you laughed it off, “Yeah…”
He cleared his throat, “Anyway, um…I got you the drink since you were gone for so long. I was worried the punch would finish before you arrive. You made such an amazing drink, and you deserve to try it too”
“Thank you, I just got held up” You said, deliberately ignoring the niceness of his actions. You could only focus on one thing at a time, and right now that was supposed to be how good he looked, not about how he was an angel of a person for saving this drink for you, “Hana needed my help with something”
“With what?”
“Nothing important, wait, did you just say that the punch is over?!”
Hyunjin laughed, “No, Y/N. Don’t worry about it”
You stepped to move to the counter, “But if there are no drinks, people are gonna hate this-”
Hyunjin grabbed you by the shoulder, pulling you back, “I already refilled it, so relax”
“You did?”
You hadn’t even asked him to do that, but he did it anyway.
He nodded, handing the cup to you, “Now, drink with me”
His cheeks were flushed red, and eyes half-lidded. He’d definitely had quite a few drinks by now, and you liked the comfort he exuded.
“Okay” You sipped on it before downing it whole, you really needed to drink more, “Having a good time?”
He looked around and then back at you, “You wouldn’t happen to know who organised this party, right?”
You laughed, crossing your arms, “Why do you ask? Is it because it’s the coolest party you’ve been ever been to?”
He hummed, lifting his cup to his mouth, “Top ten, for sure”
“Top ten?” You gasped, “What did the other parties have that this one doesn’t?”
He pretended to be thinking, “Well this one party I went to had a tower of champagne, and three kinds of chocolate fountains”
“Oh” You frowned, leaning against the wall, “Well…all we have are a bunch of different chips”
Hyunjin giggled, turning to face you.
His hand reached up to rest on the wall behind you, “You should give yourself more credit, Y/N”
He was effectively caging you to the wall by his arm, towering over you.
Your gaze came to his chest-level, and you tipped your head back to catch him in the eye.
He looked so pretty like this, effortless and relaxed. Strands of his hair fell into his face, and you wanted to reach up and push them back, but you stopped yourself.
“Really?” You looked up at him, realising how close he was, “It seems like those parties just kicked mine in the ass”
He shook his head, eyes closed blissfully, “They didn’t have you though”
You quirked an eyebrow, ignoring the pounding of your heart at his words, “And…that’s supposed to be a good thing?”
Hyunjin smiled, tilting his head at you, voice low, “What do you think?”
You stared up at him, feeling the stupidest urge to close the distance between you two.
You’d clearly drank way too much alcohol too fast, that could be the only explanation as to why your head was spinning, and heart was racing at Hyunjin’s proximity.
The party was in full swing, and it was like all of your senses were activated at the same time, stimulus hitting you from every direction, and there were people dancing and laughing and kissing and teenage chaos everywhere, but over here by the corner… it was just you and Hyunjin.
You only felt him.
His warm breath fanning your mouth, his arm which brushed by your waist, his face which was only mere inches from yours.
Inches that you suddenly wished would disappear.
But you couldn’t.
Obviously you couldn’t, that was fucking crazy.
You cleared your throat, wanting to bring yourself back to reality, and looked down at your cup, which you held between your bodies, “Um, what’s in this drink?”
Hyunjin laughed, “You’re the one that made it, Y/N”
“I don’t remember it being that strong” You mumbled.
“Maybe because you aren’t supposed to chug it the way you did”
You looked up at him, he was too close and you needed to distract yourself, “Your face is too empty”
Hyunjin laughed, “Well, that’s the first time I’ve heard something like that. Your compliments are very unique, unless wait, did you mean it as an insult?”
“Do you have a pen?”
His eyebrows shot up, “A pen?”
You nodded.
He reached into his back pocket with his free hand, offering you a blue marker, “I do have this, but I’m not giving it to you so easily”
You narrowed your eyes, reaching for it, “Give it to me!”
He giggled, holding it further up, “That’s not a very effective argument, Y/N”
You crossed your arms, whining, “I’m not gonna argue with you, Hyun. I just wanna draw on you”
His eyes widened, “Oh, no, you can’t”
“Why? Worried it’ll ruin your bad boy look?”
He rolled his eyes, “It’s not a bad boy look”
You laughed, reaching up on your toes, “Then you wouldn’t mind if I do this”
You grabbed his face with your free hand, fingers hovering over his jaw so you could hold him in place.
Hyunjin resisted, but only slightly, before he let you cup his cheek.
“Let me take that before you drop it” He spoke softly, taking your drink away from you, to place on a nearby chair.
“How kind of you” You giggled, bringing your other hand up to his jaw, cradling it.
You immediately felt stupid because how exactly was this a good distraction? You were holding his pretty face in your hands, standing on your toes, and he was looking right at you, hooded eyes, and thick lips.
He laughed, voice low, “What are you gonna draw on me?”
“Just a little star” You hummed, tracing the outline of a star onto his cheekbone.
He stood very still, breathing softly, making it much easier for you.
Your hand rest just below his jawline, but then you felt Hyunjin’s rapid pulse right underneath your fingertips, and the pen slipped.
It wavered off the mark, drawing an unintentional line across his cheek, “Oh no”
“What?” He looked at you.
“I…messed up” You said, wondering why his pulse was beating so fast.
“How complex was your star?” He laughed, unbothered by the fact that you’d drawn a line on his face.
“Wait, I’ll fix it, we can clean that up” You said, guiltily.
“Do I look that bad?” He giggled.
You stared at him. He could never look bad.
“No, I just-”
“Y/N! I was looking for you” A voice interrupted you.
You whipped your head to see Lily approach.
“Hey” You smiled, kind of dejected that she’d interrupted your conversation with Hyunjin.
Hyunjin didn’t move to step back though, he stood just as close to you as he previously was, smiling at the girl. You had expected Lily to be with Choi San, but she was alone.
“Hey…” Lily smiled up at Hyunjin, “Wow, okay, it took me like ten minutes to come up to you…I love your music so much”
Your eyes widened, “Wait. You know his music?”
Lily scoffed, amusement in her eyes, “Do I know his music? Are you really asking me that? I’ve been a fan of Urban Faeries ever since their first album came out! I remember the day of your first music show, god you guys are so crazy good!”
Hyunjin smiled at her words, “Wow. Thank you, that’s really kind of you”
Lily looked at you, “I can’t believe you didn’t tell me you knew him! That’s absolutely insane”
You smiled, feeling strangely proud of Hyunjin, “He’s been back in town for quite some time now, I thought you would have heard”
“Well, I knew he’s back, but I didn’t know that you personally knew him!”
You laughed, “Well, sorry! I didn’t know you’re a fan of his band, Lil!”
“It’s nice to meet you” Hyunjin smiled at her.
“This is Lily by the way. She knows Yongbok from this baking class they took last summer” You told him, beaming.
“Ah” Hyunjin nodded, “So you must bake just as good as him”
She had heart eyes as she gazed at him, “God. You’re even more handsome in person”
You laughed. She hadn’t even heard what he said to her.
Hyunjin laughed, redness creeping up his neck, “I hope so”
“Your last album was so good, oh my god! I went to the tour too, at the Sky Dome”
“You did?”
“I did. I forced my mum to accompany me” She laughed, “She actually loved it too. Jisung is her favourite”
Hyunjin laughed, “I’m glad she did, he’s my favourite too, but he can never know I said that”
Lily laughed, and then looked at you, realisation dawning on her face, “Oh, I almost forget! Yongbok was looking for you, he’s out by the bonfire”
“Oh of course. Oh my god, I have to go to him!” You looked at Hyunjin, “Are you coming too?”
He nodded, tucking his hands in his pockets, “Yeah, I’ll just get another drink and see you outside?”
“Sure” You smiled at him.
Lily grabbed your arm before you could, “Thanks for this, it’s been a while since we all got together and I’ve been getting tired of Choi San’s parties”
You laughed loudly, “Tell me about it!”
“Hey, what is this I’m hearing about my parties?” A familiar voice interrupted.
“Talk about the devil” Lily groaned.
“That’s not what you said the morning when you woke up in my bed” San smiled, coming up to her.
Lily gasped, “San! Shut up”
He laughed, wrapping his arm around her, “I was looking for you”
He then made eye contact with Hyunjin, “Nice to see you here, city boy”
“Nice to see you too” Hyunjin nodded.
“You have a little something…on your face” San said, gesturing to his cheek.
“Oh, that was my mistake!” You jumped, referring to the random line on Hyunijn’s face, next to an unfinished star.
“Ah, I didn’t even question that when I saw it. Just assumed it was something artistic or abstract. That’s what happens when you’re friends with someone like Y/N, but you would already know that, right Hyunjin?” Lily laughed.
He smiled, glancing at you, “Yeah, I do”
Your heart soared at his smile, and everything in the room was blurry except him.
“Oh dude, you want a beer?” San asked, extending his hand forward.
Lily rolled her eyes, “No he doesn’t want one. Can you leave? We were having a nice conversation”
San pouted at her, “You’re so mean to me tonight”
“I wonder why that is” She spoke, crossing her arms at him.
You stared at them, and the push and pull energy that they exhibited.
Park Lily and Choi San used to date way back when you were in high school, and they’d broken up shortly after, but you knew they still hooked up a lot these days.
“And how do you know Hyunjin doesn’t want a beer?” San asked her, throwing his arms up.
Lily rolled her eyes, turning to face him, “He doesn’t from you!”
“You know, you really hurt my feelings tonight”
“Oh I thought you were too busy flirting with random girls to notice” She crossed her arms.
“Wait what? Lil, just talk to me a sec” San said, following her.
You wondered if you should step in to diffuse the tension, but you weren’t even sure what was happening at this point. You used to help resolve fights between Hana and Yeonjun all the time, but you weren’t so close to neither Lily nor San, so you stared at them, feeling slightly awkward witnessing this.
Chugging those drinks had definitely worked though, since the room was lightly spinning.
“I don’t wanna do this right now” Lily said to him, glancing at you and Hyunjin.
“Come on, babe! Don’t be dramatic” San spoke, grabbing her arm.
You weren’t sure what happened next.
The bottle in San’s hands crashed to the floor.
It happened so fast that you barely saw the bottle fall from his hands. But Hyunjin saw it.
You only heard the glass shatter, making you jump.
As soon as it slipped from San’s grasp, Hyunjin’s hand instantly wrapped around your waist, pulling you back into his body with enough urgency to knock the breath out of you.
Sharp shards of glass littered the floor, right where you had been standing, along with a pool of foaming beer.
You gaped at the floor, where the pieces lay, and if it wasn’t for Hyunjin, it would have definitely hurt you. His reflexes had been lightning fast.
“Fuck” You mumbled, your brain still catching up to what had just happened.
Hyunjin’s arm rest on your midriff, your back pressed into his chest, and you stared at the pieces of glass on the floor, disappointed. It was a party, this was bound to happen, so you told yourself it was okay.
“Fuck! I’m so sorry” Lily mumbled, “This is your fault, San”
She immediately bent down, to pick it up, and so did San.
“Sorry, Lil” He mumbled.
Some of the crowd was looking at you, attention drawn momentarily to the commotion, but then they returned to their conversations.
“You okay?” Hyunjin asked, in your ear.
His grip on you was tight, and you could feel his breath on the nape of your neck.
You were breathing heavily, but the initial surprise had subsided, and now you could only focus on his fingers brushing against your exposed stomach.
You could only feel his body pressed into your back, and his crotch rubbing against your short skirt.
“I’m okay” You breathed. The skirt had ridden up from the movement, and you could feel the material of his jeans on the back of your thighs, tickling the sensitive skin.
You suddenly felt extremely hot, and you needed to catch some fresh air.
“I’m so sorry, Y/N” Lily mumbled, glancing up at you.
“It’s okay, Lil. It’s not your fault, it’s just a broken bottle, happens all the time”
“Are you sure you didn’t cut yourself?” Hyunjin asked you.
This was probably a bad idea…but you turned to look at him. Craning your neck, you looked him in the eye.
“I don’t think I did” You mumbled, feeling very dizzy from the drinks, and from the genuine concern in his eyes.
“Come on, let me check” He spoke, and his hand moved from your waist to your hand. He interlocked his fingers with yours, leading you away from there.
Your stupid brain screamed at the fact that this was the second time he chose to hold your hand today.
On purpose.
“Where’s the bathroom?” He asked, as you tugged behind him.
“End of the corridor” You told him.
Hyunjin pushed open the door to a little bathroom, thankfully it wasn’t occupied.
He led you inside, turning you to face him, “Does it hurt anywhere?”
“No…” You said, even though you suddenly felt like a child, but you wanted to be taken care by him.
“Can you sit down? I need to see if it’s bleeding” He asked you, hand reaching up to your waist again as he made you sit on the closed toilet seat.
Your head was spinning, and you could barely think. The music outside was so loud, and you realised Hyunjin hadn’t turned on the light, probably not wanting to bother with looking for the switch.
You can’t believe you hadn’t even met Yongbok yet, and now you’d possibly hurt yourself.
You absolutely needed to meet him before the clock struck twelve. How could you have got so caught up? You wanted to be the first one to wish him on his birthday, but maybe that was selfish of you…since you’d let yourself be so distracted from Hyunjin.
You hope he wasn’t too upset at you, and was having a good time with his other friends.
You couldn’t even tell if you were hurt, because all of your other emotions were so heightened.
All you could see was Hyunjin, in the dim lighting.
He knelt down in front of you, looking down at your open-toed platform shoes, a frown in his forehead.
You stared at him, and the way his hair fell forward as he checked you for injuries.
It was silly and exaggerated, because it was just glass, and it was just a college party. Stuff like this happened all the time, but Hyunjin seemed so concerned.
It remind you of the time at Minho’s birthday, when you’d all gone to a pub, and a piece of glass had cut your palm so deeply, to the point that you’d had to get stitches.
You had been younger then, and you hated blood, and it was your first time getting stitches, so you’d almost cried, but Hana had told you to stop making a big deal out of everything.
It was such a contrast from right now, as Hyunjin bent down, using the flashlight of his phone to see if you got hurt anywhere, even though absolutely nothing had happened.
You wonder how he would have reacted if he had been with you at the pub at Minho’s party. Hana thought you were being a baby, but perhaps Hyunjin wouldn’t have.
Would he have held your hand in the emergency room, while you bit your lip, trying not to focus on the pain?
You think it would have hurt less back then, if he had been next to you.
“I don’t think you got cut” He spoke, relieved, and looked up at you.
“That’s good”
“God, I’m really mad at Choi San” He muttered.
Your eyebrows raised. You’d never heard him say something like that about anybody.
“Why?”
“He could have seriously hurt you” Hyunjin continued, still holding your hand.
His fingers were so warm, perfectly laced with yours, the silver of his rings cooling you down.
“But he didn’t”
“He should really be more careful” He looked up at you, annoyed.
“Hyun, it’s fine” You spoke, not liking the crease between his eyebrows. You didn’t want him to be stressed because of you.
He gazed at you, eyes shifting over your face.
“It’s just…I know how much today means for you” He spoke.
“Today?”
“You’ve been planning it for so long, and… Yongbok will kill me if you get hurt”
Oh.
You reached for his phone, “What time is it?”
“It’s 11:52” He told you.
“Fuck, I need to meet Yongbok” You stood up.
“Oh of course. I think he’s at the bonfire”
Hyunjin stood up too, from where he had been kneeling in front of you, but he was still holding your hand. You felt like a thirteen year old girl noticing stuff like this.
Just as you reached for the knob, the door to the bathroom burst open.
Choi San and Lily stood at the door.
“Y/N?” Lily asked, “Are you okay? I’m so sorry about before, I feel so fucking embarrassed”
“Lily relax…it’s a bottle of beer, not a million dollar vase or something, and nobody got hurt. Are you two okay?”
Lily smiled in relief, and you noticed San’s hand on her ass, which obviously meant they were okay now.
“We made up” San explained.
Lily gasped, mumbling to him, “That is conditional! We only make up if you-”
San leaned into her ear to whisper, “-If I make you cum more than last time, I know, I know”
You both obviously heard him.
Your eyes widened, and Hyunjin stifled a laugh.
“Um. We need to go” You cleared your throat, stepping out.
Hyunjin nodded, leaving with you.
That was painfully awkward…
You needed to meet Yongbok as soon as possible, and make sure to spend the rest of your night with him, so you rushed to the cabin door, towards the beach.
Hyunjin followed just behind you, and you heart soared, because he was still holding your hand.
»»————-
Yongbok seemed to be having the time of his life, giggling loudly as Seonghwa spun him in a circle, and Seungmin watched on, filming it on his phone, and laughing.
The bonfire was raging, and groups of Felix’s friends were around it, relishing in the music and the sound of the ocean. You quickly stepped off the porch, kicking off your shoes to step into the sand.
The sand was warm on your feet, but you were in a rush and the feeling could be savoured later.
It was four minutes to midnight now, and so you ran up to Yongbok, pulling Hyunjin behind you. He wasn’t prepared for a run, so he stumbled in his step, laughing as you pulled him up to the fire.
“Whoa, whoa, Y/N” Hyunjin chuckled, coming to a stop behind you, “I know you’re excited but don’t make me a liability”
Yongbok turned to face you at the noise, eyes widening when he saw you, “Oh my god, Y/N”
You left your hold on Hyunjin’s hand, to hug Yongbok, “I’m so so sorry I got caught up inside, baby”
Yongbok immediately wrapped his arms around you, burying his face in your hair, “What are you apologising for? This is amazing, I’m having such a great time”
You pulled back to smile at him, “You are? You like it?”
Yongbok laughed, gesturing to his surroundings, “This is insane. I can’t believe you managed to invite all these people, even the ones you don’t like”
You shushed him, “Well, they’re not supposed to know that!”
He laughed, grabbing your hand to pull you close, and then his eyes landed on your top, “Holy fuck… What are you wearing?”
“It’s a long story” You sighed, fiddling with the thin straps on your stomach.
Felix was staring at you, eyes falling to your little skirt, “You look like a fucking dream, Y/N. I don’t even want a birthday present anymore, not when you’re standing here wearing that”
You laughed, flushing, “Felix…oh my god, stop”
“I’m serious” He insisted, turning to Hyunjin, “Don’t you think so, man?”
Hyunjin was staring at the two of you, and he seemed caught off-guard by Felix’s question, but he nodded, “Uh. Yeah, she does”
Felix grinned, pulling your attention back to him, and you tried to not think about the awkwardness of Hyunjin’s face as he had said that. Did he just agree because Felix had put him on that spot?
“What took you so long though?” He asked.
“Choi San…” Hyunjin explained, leaving room for more questions than answers.
“What did he do?” Seungmin asked, stepping up to you guys.
“Nothing, Lix. He was just drunk, things got messy, he broke a bottle” You explained, and then turned to Seungmin, “I’m so glad you made it”
Felix’s eyes widened, grabbing your hands to look, “What? Did you get hurt? You know that glass can cut super deep right? ”
“No, don’t worry” You said immediately, “I didn’t”
“Are you sure?”
“I’m sure, Hyunjin checked”
Felix’s head whipped to Hyunjin’s, “You did?”
Hyunjin nodded, but Felix somehow… didn’t seem grateful.
He seemed disappointed.
You didn’t have the time to ponder on the wistful look on his face though, because your phone buzzed, and that meant it was midnight.
You immediately jumped to hug Felix, almost knocking him off balance, “Oh my god! Happy birthday!”
Felix laughed, hugging you back, and you heard everybody else at the bonfire cheer, joining in to wish him with a chorus of various ‘happy birthdays’.
He looked at them, over your shoulder, “I’ll get around to you guys, once Y/N lets go of me!”
You heard laughter and you pulled back, “Sorry, I just wanted to be the first one to wish you”
Felix smiled, his freckles sparking in the light of the fire, “You’ll always be the first one, love. Don’t worry. You’re amazing, you know that right?”
Your eyes widened, you should be the one saying this to him, “Felix…”
“No, let me finish. I’m so happy to be here. You’re ridiculously amazing for doing all of this for me. I know how busy you are and how much you stress about it, but I’m…so lucky to have you in my life”
“I’m so lucky to have you too, Lix” You smiled.
“Now are we gonna get Yongbok too or do you have dibs on him for the whole night?” Minho interrupted the two of you. You laughed, stepping away so they could hug.
You bumped into Hyunjin, who was stood behind you, and his hands came up to steady you. “Careful” He spoke.
“Sorry, I just…got excited”
He laughed, “I can see that”
“I’m so happy” You declared, watching Yongbok laugh with all of his favourite people, as they hugged him, showering him with all the love that he deserved.
Hyunjin nodded, smiling softly, “I’m really glad you are, Y/N”
You glanced up at him, and his skin was glowing under the orange light. You felt a rush go through you, high from the drinks and from Hyunjin’s presence and Yongbok’s smiles.
“Are you happy too?” You asked him.
Hyunjin looked at you at that, surprised, “What do you mean?”
“I mean…you don’t regret coming, right?” You asked.
He hadn’t been sure about being here, since he claimed that he didn’t know anyone and would be somehow intruding. You hope the events of tonight had changed his mind about that.
Hyunjin’s eyes searched your face, eyes soft, “You don’t have to worry about me, Y/N”
What did that mean?
Before you could question him further, Eunbi pulled at your arm, “What are you doing standing here? Come on, we’re all over there!”
“What for?”
“Spin the bottle, of course!” Seonmi spoke, and then looked at Hyunjin, “Come on! We were waiting for you guys this whole time”
You laughed, “Spin the bottle? What?”
Hyunjin’s eyes were wide, “The kissing game? Really?”
Eunbi rolled her eyes, grabbing Hyunjin’s arm and Seonmi grabbed yours, as they both dragged you over to the circle.
“Don’t freak out. It’s not just kissing, you can ask questions and other boring stuff too, but obviously kissing is the best part of it” Eunbi explained.
Everybody else had already sat down, and you were happy to know there were only few people. The others had gone back to the bonfire, or into the sea, including Seungmin, who seemed to be in a very intense discussion with someone.
Yongbok was already sitting in the sand, and Minho, Park Seonghwa, Choi San and Lily were all gathered around an empty bottle.
It was funny the way they were all sat around a bottle, like they were performing some kind of ritual, and you held back a laugh. You wondered where Hana was, and if she had gotten her wish of hooking up tonight.
“You guys are serious?” You asked, “We’re really playing this?”
Eunbi pulled you to the other end of the circle, “Sit here!”
“I’m so confused” You spoke, sitting cross-legged, making sure your skirt didn’t ride up too much.
Seonmi laughed, “Don’t flash everyone, Y/N. The game hasn't even started yet”
You rolled your eyes, flushing, “Shut up”
Hyunjin sat opposite you, next to Yongbok, and he was laughing too, “This is so silly…I can’t believe you guys are doing this”
“You should thank us, city boy. I bet they don’t play this back in Seoul, do they?” Choi San spoke.
Hyunjin laughed, throwing his head back, “Oh my god…I’m glad they don’t”
“Come on! Does anybody need to know the rules, or are we all cultured here?” Seonmi asked, looking around the circle.
“I didn’t know there are rules” You spoke, and everyone groaned.
Yongbok quipped, “Why do I even love you?”
“It’s simple, Y/N. If the bottle lands on you, you have to do the given dare, or answer the question, or kiss whoever you’re supposed to” Seonghwa said, looking around.
You hadn’t really talked to Park Seonghwa much, but he was clearly enjoying this, as he explained the rules to all of you.
“So, like truth or dare?” Minho asked, chewing on a sausage.
“No, because in truth or dare, the two people at opposite ends of the bottle give each other stuff to do… but in this game, the person who spins it is the one decides what the other two people will do!”
“So, we’re completely fucked then?” Yongbok asked.
“No, not completely. You can choose not to do something too if you don’t like it, and back out” Seonghwa said, and you held back laughter at his seriousness.
It was just a game after all, it wasn’t that deep. From your past experiences, whenever anybody started a game of spin the bottle, they got bored after a few rounds and people just ended up making out on their own, without a bottle telling them what to do.
“Really? We can back out?” You asked, not wanting to do any embarrassing stuff in front of everyone. You’d played truth or dare and seen far too many games on television to know all the potential ways to embarrass yourself.
“You can only back out, if you drink this” San said, extending a cup forward.
“What is in that?” Minho asked, eyebrows furrowed.
“Oh, not much…just a mixture of some tequila, vodka, orange juice, coke, and some red and white wine” San explained.
“What?” You laughed, “Are you trying to kill us?”
San shrugged, handing everyone their cup, “Just an incentive not to back out”
You stared at the contents of it, and it looked absolutely gross, a pungent red color.
You hope nothing made you back out.
Hyunjin groaned, looking at his own cup, “I regret this game already”
Lily laughed, and suddenly stood up, “That reminds me, before we start, I’d just like to inform everybody here that Hwang Hyunjin from the coolest fucking band in the world is playing with us…so if anybody wants to force me to kiss someone, now is the time”
Hyunjin laughed at her words, and buried his face in his hands, “Oh no”
You smiled at how embarrassed he seemed.
He was so fucking cute.
“Lily please sit down, and on that note, we can start” Seonghwa laughed, reaching over to give the bottle a spin. Your eyes widened, and you realised you were truly not prepared to play this. You liked everyone in the circle, so yeah you wouldn’t mind kissing them but…it was also scary at the same time. There were definitely people you’d like to kiss more than others…
As the bottle spun in the sand, Seonghwa gestured around, “Since I spun it I get to decide for this round. The next two people it lands on have to kiss each other. Everybody got it?”
“What?” Eunbi laughed, “So we’re jumping right into it then? No warm up questions?”
Seonghwa hummed, “It’s the easiest one, Eunbi”
Yongbok rolled his eyes at the unoriginality of the dare, staring at the bottle, until it stopped.
It landed on Minho, and the other end…on Hyunjin.
“Are you kidding me?” Lily yelled, getting up, “Switch places with me, Minho”
“Oh my god” You laughed, feeling embarrassed for her. San was scowling at her behaviour, and that made it even funnier.
“You have to kiss Hyunjin, Min” Yongbok laughed, already red from what was to come.
“Why do I have to kiss him?” Minho asked.
“Because the neck of the bottle is on you, so you have to be the one to do it” Eunbi explained, “You guys really never played this game before? What do you even do at your parties?”
“We don’t go to parties anymore” Yongbok said, simply.
San sighed, “I know, you guys never show up to mine, only Hana and Min do”
You remembered that you needed to talk to Hana. She hadn’t come to the beach to wish Yongbok, and you hope she was just too busy getting fucked, instead of upset.
Still, you picked up your phone to type in a message.
you:
babe, where are you? i hope you’re okay and having a good time, we’re all by the beach
Minho was still arguing about the dare he got, “You can’t be serious”
“Hey! I didn’t make the rules” Seonghwa laughed, “But I’ll go easy on you, you can just kiss his cheek”
“I guess that’s not that bad” Hyunjin spoke, chuckling.
Minho hummed, “I guess”
San shrugged, “Unless you rather drink”
“Fuck no” Minho immediately stood up, “I’m not drinking the shit you made”
Your phone buzzed and you glanced at it quickly.
hana:
im with sam! don’t worry, i hope you’re getting fucked on the beach tho, instead of doing something stupid like truth or dare or something
Everybody laughed, and you looked up to see Minho make his way closer to Hyunjin.
“Is this fine, man?” He asked, kneeling in front of him.
Hyunjin was laughing too, only slightly uncomfortable, “I mean…do I have a choice?”
“You can opt out too, but you’ll have to chug the drink”
“Oh” Hyunjin sighed, “Fine, go ahead, I guess”
He readied himself, hands on his knees and it was funny to watch him take in a breath as he closed his eyes.
Minho chuckled at that action, “I’m just kissing your cheek, Hyunjin, don’t close your eyes”
Hyunjin kept his eyes closed still, “Just get it over with, man!”
“All right, fine, fine” Minho laughed, leaning in to plant a kiss on Hyunjin’s cheek.
You laughed, it was so quick anybody barely saw it, and Minho moved back just as fast, “There”
Hyunijn opened his eyes with a giggle, “That was the shortest kiss of my life”
“Oh, you wanted more?” Minho asked.
Hyunjin rolled his eyes, “Go back to your place, Min”
Minho laughed, heading back to sit in the circle.
“Since you just went, now you spin it, and decide the next dare!” Seonmi explained to him.
“I can’t believe we have to explain the rules to a bunch of 20-year olds” San laughed.
“Wow, you’ve truly conquered life if you’ve understood spin the bottle, Choi San” You quipped.
He gasped, “Oh, just because it’s your boyfriend’s birthday, you think you can be so feisty? I hope you have to do many embarrassing things tonight"
“Shut up!” You mumbled, “He’s not my boyfriend”
San laughed, coughing, “Not if it were up to him”
You stared at him, wondering what the hell he meant.
“Okay…I’m gonna go easy on you guys, whoever is next” Minho said, looking around the circle, “It’s just a simple question, and you can decide whatever it is”
He gave the bottle a push and it spun, landing on you, and Eunbi, who sat at the other end.
Her eyes widened when she saw you at the receiving end, “I can ask Y/N anything that I want?”
“Oh” You squirmed, “This doesn’t sound good”
Eunbi laughed, “I’ll go easy on you, only because I love you Y/N”
You breathed a sigh of relief, “Yes please”
“You just need to answer truthfully”
“All right” You nodded, preparing for her question.
“When was the last time you had a sex dream?”
Your eyes widened.
“What?”
San whooped, bursting into laughter.
“You know...a sex dream, a wet dream, a dream about being fucked-”
“I know what a sex dream means, Eunbi!” You interrupted her, flushing.
Minho laughed, “You call that going easy?”
“Yes! I mean, I just asked her when, not who it’s about!” Eunbi defended.
“Ahh” Minho nodded, “Okay, yeah perhaps you went too easy on her”
“So?” Eunbi pursed her lips at you, “When was it?”
“I don’t know” You said, drawing in the sand, "It’s been a while”
“Liar” San said, and you shot him a look. Who was he to know?
“Well, I don’t always remember my dreams!” You defended.
Eunbi narrowed her eyes at you, “Remind me to never go easy on you again, babe”
“Okay, fine!” You said, trailing off to recall, “It was…a few days ago, I guess”
Eunbi’s eyes widened, “What was it?”
“That was not part of the question” You narrowed your eyes at her.
She sighed, “Ugh, okay, yeah. I can’t believe you got fucked by someone in your dream and won’t even tell me who”
You rolled your eyes at how dramatic she was being. You guys barely even talked often outside of tonight’s party.
You could feel Hyunjin’s eyes on you, curious, but you tried not to think about that. After all, anybody would be curious to know juicy stuff like that about their friend’s life.
You settled back down, thankful she hadn’t asked for details.
Well, if she had, you would have made them up, because there was no way you were going to discuss any kind of dreams in front of Minho, Yongbok, Choi San of all people, and…Hyunjin.
You couldn’t.
You didn’t usually have dreams like that, but it was the day after you’d all gone to the Creek. Everything in the dream had been vague, and blurry, no clear face in your memory of who you had been with.
All you remembered was one tiny detail; the boy in the dream had the most perfect long hair.
It was a detail that you probably would never bring up, because it could be easily misinterpreted.
The game went on for a few more rounds, ranging from a bunch of embarrassing stuff that you were so glad you didn’t have to do.
When it was San’s turn to kiss someone, the bottle had landed on Yongbok.
He had laughed, “I love you man and I know it’s your birthday, but I’m sorry I can’t kiss you”
Yongbok rolled his eyes, “I’m so heartbroken”
San laughed and chugged his drink, gagging slightly at the taste, and you hope it never came to that for you.
You did not want that liquid in your mouth, under any circumstances.
Despite the initial apprehension, the game was fun, and you had laughed more than you thought you would, watching your friends in potentially embarrassing situations.
Hyunjin was dared to run into the ocean, and he scrunched his nose, making a face, “Do I really have to? There’s nothing I hate more than sand sticking to wet clothes”
“Maybe you shouldn’t have worn such tight pants then” Yongbok spoke, and Hyunjin rolled his eyes, “Ha-Ha”
“Well, you can drink, but I mean…that’s for pussies” San quipped, gesturing to the cup in front of Hyunjin.
Hyunjin rolled his eyes, and stood up, “All right, fine”
You sat up on your knees, eager to watch this. The sand was chafing your skin, but you didn’t care, you were curious to see this play out.
It wasn’t even anything revolutionary, or bold.
It was such a simple dare, but Hyunjin was so cute.
He took slow steps into the ocean, the water coming up to his ankles, and he giggled, “Holy fuck that’s cold!”
His hair flew all around him as he uncomfortably squirmed in place, reacting to the temperature, and his silhouette glowed in the moonlight.
“You should be glad we didn’t ask you to skinny dip in that!” Seonghwa laughed.
“That was an option?” Lily gasped.
“Oh my god, Lily, calm down” San said, pulling her onto his lap.
She giggled, “What? You’re saying you don’t want to see him naked?”
San frowned, “Stop drooling over him in front of me, Lil!”
“Okay, I’ll wait for you to leave and then do it”
You laughed at their argument in the background, a stark contrast from the peaceful image of Hyunjin in the sea.
He waded into the water, till it came to his knees, and he cringed at the sensation. He was laughing as he turned around to face the circle, voice louder, “Can I please come back now? I do not want to get sick”
“I'm sure half the people here would volunteer to take care of you if you got sick” Yongbok laughed.
Hyunjin giggled, flushing red, “I’m coming back now”
He ran back to the circle, sitting in his place, wiping the sand off his legs.
His nose scrunched up, as he focused on drying off, and he looked up at you, still frowning.
You laughed at the disgust in his expression, and Hyunjin’s lips tugged into a smile, even though he seemed annoyed.
“Don’t laugh at me, Y/N. It could have been you” He pouted, tucking his hair behind his ears.
You wanted to kiss him right then.
To immortalise him in that moment, the furrow of his eyebrows, and the cute pout of his perfect lips, as his hair flew lightly around him.
What the fuck were you thinking?
It was crazy, and you can’t believe you just thought that, so you buried the urge away.
It must be the influence of the game, and you must be drunker than you thought.
You shook your head, apologising to him for finding humour in his misery, but you couldn’t help but still laugh at the look on his face.
“You’re so drunk” Lily mumbled, watching you.
You don’t think you were drunk, not yet, it was just so easy to laugh when you were around Hyunjin.
Everything he did made you smile.
»»————-
You weren’t sure how much time had passed, you’d lost track of it, but you think it was around 2 am. You’d been playing this game for far too long, most of the time spent joking around instead of on the actual game though. You were lucky to have spent it unscathed, having to do almost nothing embarrassing yet, and you’d surprisingly managed to evade every single kissing question till now.
Minho had to kiss the most people, and he was annoyed at his luck for always getting the same dare.
It was your turn to answer a question, and the other end of the bottle was on Yongbok.
He smiled at you, leaning back on his hands, as he thought, “I’ll make this simple. What’s your favourite thing about me?”
“What? That’s too simple” Eunbi complained.
Yongbok didn’t bother though, and you were glad.
You hummed, looking over him, thinking about every reason that you loved him.
“Don’t give us a lame-ass answer, Y/N. It has to be genuine” Minho added.
You laughed, sitting up straighter, “Okay…I don’t know where to even start. You’re my favourite person, Lix…I guess I love your heart. I love…how kind you are. I love your pretty eyes, and your freckles and…I love the apple pies you bake us!”
Yongbok was smiling widely as you said this, seemingly satisfied with your answer, and he laughed when you brought up the pies.
“You’re so cute” He mumbled, “I’ll make you one every day if you love them so much”
You smiled at him, and your phone buzzed.
Hana had uploaded a story on Instagram to wish Yongbok, tagging you and Minho in it. It was silly because she could just walk all the way here and wish him in person, but you weren’t going to question it. The picture was super cute, taken at The Creek last year, and your heart warmed at the memory.
“Have you ever fucked a girl raw?”
The question brought you out of your trail of thoughts, and you wondered who would ask something like that. It was like a cold glass of water dropped over you, when you realised the question had been asked to Hyunjin.
Park Seonghwa sat on the other end of his bottle, eager to know the answer.
You were eager too, so you turned off all the other parts of your brain that could potentially distract you.
Hyunjin seemed embarrassed, cheeks tinged pink, but he didn’t seem uncomfortable.
That was good, you would never want him to feel uncomfortable in a scenario like this.
“What a very specific question” Hyunjin spoke, amused.
“Well, you’re famous…I think it’s a question anybody would have!” Seonghwa laughed.
Hyunjin hummed, casually tracing a circle in the sand with his finger, “Yes”
Your gut clenched at his answer, unknowingly.
“Yes?”
“Yes I have”
“You’ve fucked raw? Like without anything?” Seonghwa’s voice was loud.
Hyunjin squeezed his eyes shut, an amused smile on his face, “I thought this game was supposed to be discreet”
“Sorry” Seonghwa whispered, “I just…didn’t expect that. Was it with your girlfriend?”
Hyunjin nodded, “Yeah, it was a long time ago though”
“So you probably miss the feeling now” San smirked.
Hyunjin’s eyes darted to yours, meeting your gaze, and your heart kicked in your chest.
What the hell?
Why did he look at you?
Was it because he could see how weirdly eager you had been to hear his answer?
You felt embarrassed, looking away.
“Cause you probably have to be like, super careful when you sleep with fans, right? I mean, what if somebody gets pregnant?” Seonghwa asked.
Hyunjin laughed, “I don’t go around sleeping with fans, Seonghwa. I’m not in a 80s rock band or something”
“Well, that’s disappointing” San said.
Hyunjin chuckled, leaning back on his hands, “It’s all right”
“Okay, moving on” Eunbi spoke, leaning forward to push the bottle.
It would take you quite a while to move on from that surprising conversation.
“I’m back, please tell me I didn’t miss anything fun!” Yongbok yelled, stumbling into the group, as he brought a bowl of nachos with him.
“You didn’t” Seonmi clarified, scooting to make way for him.
You were still thinking about Hyunjin’s answer. You wouldn’t have expected something like that either, and you would never have asked him that yourself.
It was… interesting to know that side of him.
Yongbok sat cross-legged, between Seonmi and Hyunjin, and shot you a smile.
You smiled at him, “Having a good time?”
He hummed, “Of course”
“Since he’s back, Seonmi you have to sit on Yongbok’s lap for three turns” Lily said.
She laughed, “Oh no! I have to sit on the lap of a super pretty boy? What an absolutely terrible punishment!”
“Facing him” Lily clarified.
Seonmi’s mouth dropped open, “You want me to straddle him?”
Lily nodded, excited at the prospect, “You also can’t look away from him!”
“Okay, you can’t just keep adding stuff to a dare because you feel like it” She complained.
You laughed as she shifted into his lap regardless, getting comfortable, and the game resumed. You’d never thought it could be a genuinely fun way to pass time before, but tonight was different. You somehow didn’t feel bored or tired.
It was particularly exciting to see Hyunjin let loose like that. He was giggling, and laughing, feeling embarrassed by the things others had to do, and you found yourself more focused on him than the game.
You giggled as Eunbi had to kiss San’s ear as sensually as possible.
“Ouch, you bit me!” San complained.
“I meant to” Eunbi quipped, sitting back from him.
You laughed at the sight, passing a glance to Hyunjin, as you did every few seconds since you could never really look away from him for too long.
He was already looking at you.
God, he was so beautiful, and he had been watching you laugh as you told Eunbi to bite San harder.
You couldn’t find it in yourself to feel conscious though, you’d been so loud and careless, but his eyes had a fond look in them. He wasn’t judging you.
Your heart kicked in your chest, stomach twisting at the simple eye contact.
When he saw you looking, his cheeks flushed red, and he looked away, but it didn’t matter, the image was already imprinted in your head, and you’d never let go of the way he looked at you in that moment.
Even though you knew that he was only looking at you because you just happened to sit right across him, it was obvious where his line of sight would fall.
He’d traced quite a few shapes on the sand next to him, and it was so random, but it was so cute. You’d laughed when Minho had told him to draw a dick next to everything else, and Hyunjin had rolled his eyes, talking about how his drawings were more tasteful than that.
He kept running his hands through his hair, fingers sifting through, and when Yongbok miserably failed at pushups, you smiled more at Hyunjin’s laughs than the dare itself.
The sea was loud, but Hyunjin’s presence was louder.
You couldn’t imagine how everybody else wasn’t as distracted by him as you were.
But you felt at peace, and hadn’t felt this calm in the longest time.
You also now wanted the game to end quickly so you could go back to talking to him.
The sky was dark, and beautiful, and the sea was loud and unruly. The waves crashed just near where you sat, coming close to touch you every time, and you kind of felt like the water in that moment — so close to what you wanted, but stopping just before you get it.
It was Eunbi’s loud giggle which brought you back to the game, and you realised the tail end of the bottle was pointed to you.
“Oh shit!” Seonmi laughed, doubling over in laughter.
You were confused, since you hadn’t been paying attention.
The other end had been on Hyunjin.
Hyunjin was looking at San, distracted too, “Sorry, I missed the question. What do I have to do?”
“Well… you have to kiss Y/N”
Hyunjin’s eyes widened slightly, “What?”
Your stomach dropped, twisting, as if you were on a rollercoaster that just fell fifty feet.
He was going to kiss you?
What the fuck.
He was going to kiss you.
You immediately looked at him, and he seemed just as shocked by this as you. He was still looking at San as if he couldn’t believe what he just said.
This was a game of spin the bottle, you knew the possibility of something like this was high, but you didn’t think it would actually happen.
You weren’t prepared.
Hyunjin was going to kiss you.
Your gut was leaping, with the anticipation of what would come next. Hyunjin was probably an amazing kisser, it was obvious. Your stomach quickly filled with dread, you didn’t know if you were a good kisser or not.
“Who has to kiss who? What did I miss?” Minho asked, rushing back into the circle with his fresh drink.
“Hyunjin has to kiss Y/N” San explained, as if you hadn’t repeated it in your head ten times already, “Well, either that or he can drink”
Your eyes flitted up to him, and you realised that even if this was an embarrassing situation, at least it would feel so nice.
If holding his hand made you feel like collapsing, then kissing him would be…unimaginable.
You let yourself look at his lips.
They seemed perfect.
Would they feel just as soft on you as they looked?
You really shouldn’t be thinking all this stuff about him…
“For how long?” Minho asked.
“Um…a minute” San explained, glancing at the timer.
Minho laughed, “You want them to suffocate? A minute is too long”
San rolled his eyes, “Fine. 30 seconds then”
Thirty seconds.
That was a lot of seconds to be touching Hyunjin’s lips.
Your heart was pounding so fast when Hyunjin glanced at you that you thought you’d pass out, an intense look in his eyes.
You took in a breath.
“30 seconds is good” Minho grinned, and then looked at Hyunjin, “Come on, then, city boy. Pucker up!”
You were looking at Hyunjin, and he seemed nervous, avoiding your gaze. You’d never seen him nervous like this before.
You were nervous too, but you would never admit it.
You could hear your heartbeat in your ears.
He shifted from where he sat, and you realised he was going to come over to you.
You were looking forward to it, even if you really shouldn’t, and you suddenly wished you could remember the next thirty seconds forever, in anticipation of how amazing they would feel.
It was only going to be a few seconds, but your heart was pounding in your chest so hard you thought it might break through your ribs.
His eyes flickered up to yours for a brief second, an unreadable expression in them, as everybody waited for you to kiss.
But his fingers curled around his cup…
He lifted the cup to his mouth, and he drank.
He drank?
Oh.
Okay.
Hyunjin had passed on the dare.
Your heart dropped.
He didn’t want to kiss you.
“What?” San mumbled, surprised.
“Ouch” Someone spoke next to you.
“You’re passing the dare?” San asked.
Hyunjin nodded, voice low, “Yeah, I am”
You hadn’t processed what had happened yet, eyes still on Hyunjin, except he wasn’t looking at you anymore.
What the fuck?
You were looking at him, confused why he chose this, and your body still hadn’t caught up to your brain and it was still anticipating the kiss, stupidly, and your heart was still racing just as fast for no possible reason.
He wasn’t going to kiss you, and you wish your body would calm down.
Your stomach hurt at this point, and you looked away from him.
He actually drank that terrible concoction.
Just so he didn’t have to kiss you.
It’s not like it would mean anything. Everybody here had kissed someone. It was just a stupid college game.
It was purely platonic and it was hardly for a minute. You would have kissed anybody in the circle, just for the sake of the game.
Then why didn’t he?
Did he really not even find you attractive at all?
He obviously didn’t, if the thought of a simple dare like this repulsed him so much.
The thought poisoned you, a tangent of thoughts coming to the surface.
You tried to not let it affect you, or sour your mood.
It’s not like you expected him to enjoy the kiss, since you two were friends, and it probably was awkward for him.
It still hurt.
Your eyes suddenly pricked with tears. You don’t know why.
Obviously Hyunjin wasn’t even attracted to you, in the slightest, and maybe Hana was right all those weeks ago when she said you weren’t his type.
Of course you weren’t.
It still hurt.
San spun the bottle again, and everybody watched as it spun on its axis. You stared at the sand at your feet, not wanting to look up. Nobody really seemed to care that Hyunjin had chosen to skip his turn, to them it was just a random dare, but you cared, and your chest hurt.
You almost laughed at the thought of being excited to hold his hand earlier, you felt stupid.
It wasn’t until now that you realised how much you’d actually wanted to kiss him.
“Oh, seems like Y/N’s lucky tonight” A voice interrupted your spiral of thoughts.
“What?” You asked, voice unsteady, looking up.
“The bottle is on you” San explained, and you noticed it was indeed pointing to you.
“Oh…what do I have to do?”
You didn’t really want to play this game anymore, but you didn’t want to be a bother to the group, so you let yourself be a part of it.
“You have to kiss the person it lands on next. Have you not been paying attention the past hours?” San spoke slowly, as if he was explaining to a child.
“Oh okay” You spoke, your voice small.
He leaned forward, fingers giving the bottle a push.
It spun.
You pray it wouldn’t land on Hyunijn.
It couldn’t.
You held your breath, as it spun, showing signs of slowing down.
Please do not be Hyunjin.
You didn’t want to force him to do something he clearly didn’t want to.
It looked like the tail end of the bottle would land on Seonghwa, which would be great actually, but of course it didn’t.
It came to a stop.
Right between Yongbok and Hyunjin.
They glanced at each other, and your stomach dropped.
“Who is it on?” Lily asked, craning her neck to see. It was ambiguous.
“I don’t know” Eunbi said, “I think Hyunjin”
Oh god. No fucking way was this going to happen again.
San laughed, “Looks like you can’t escape Y/N, city boy”
Why did he say it like that?
You didn’t look at Hyunjin then, because what if he laughed at that too?
Your gaze drifted to Felix, and his eyebrows were raised at you, in concern. He could probably see you on the brink of tears.
Before anybody could say anything, Felix stood up.
Was he also going to pass on the dare so he didn’t have to kiss you?
Instead, he laughed, casual, stepping closer to you, “Let’s get it over with, so they stop bugging you”
Your eyes widened.
He extend his hand to yours, and you stared at it.
“Come on, love” He said, simply, “It’s just a few seconds”
You swallowed, grabbing his hand and Felix pulled you up. You were unsteady on your legs, put off by this entire game, and your skirt swayed around you in the wind but you couldn’t find it in yourself to bother.
Stood in the centre of the circle now, Felix laughed, putting you at ease.
At least he didn’t mind kissing you.
“Finally! I’ll go easy on you guys. Only ten seconds for you” Seonmi laughed.
Felix hummed, “Got it”
You closed your eyes, trying not to think about anything, especially about how Hyunjin was watching this.
Felix’s arm wrapped around your waist, as he’d done many times before, tugging you closer to his body.
And then Yongbok’s lips landed on yours, and everything else melted away.
He certainly hadn’t ever done anything like that before.
You were glad he was holding you up, because you truly hadn’t been prepared for that in any way, shape or form. Your hands rest on his arms, awkward but at least he grounded you.
You’d been so fucking stressed and anxious and upset you didn’t realise that you were actually kissing Yongbok.
Your best friend.
His fingers rest on your jaw, caressing you in the most gentle way ever, as he deepened the kiss, tilting his head.
His lips were soft, and so intense, and it made some of your anxiety melt away.
His hand then slipped from your jaw to your neck, slipping into your hair, and god you’d forgotten how good it had felt to be kissed so intensely. His other hand slipped to your waist, dangerously close to where your skirt began and ended, but you strangely liked it.
Your hands moved up from his arms, to grasp at his soft cheeks, kissing him back.
Yongbok’s nails lightly scratched at your scalp, shooting something straight to your gut, and your core tightened, and you almost let out a subconscious moan at the feeling-
“Ten seconds are up” San’s voice filtered through your foggy brain.
Felix pulled away immediately, right on the dot, but his face still hovered close to yours.
You were out of breath, panting almost from how unexpectedly heated that got.
You’d just kissed Yongbok, and he had managed to rile you up in just ten seconds.
His hands still cradled your jaw, and he tilted his head at you, voice low and sweet unlike how urgently he’d touched you, “You okay, love?”
You nodded, swallowing down your stress, wondering what to possibly say to him, “Yeah. Just tired... thank you”
If it hadn’t been for him, you would probably have had to kiss Hyunjin again, and you were so thankful Yongbok was here for you. He saved you from the embarrassment of kissing someone who clearly didn’t want to.
Felix kissed you like he actually wanted to, and that was a feeling you would treasure and think about forever.
He smiled, and his cheeks were heated up, “Don’t thank me. I didn’t do anything”
He let go of you, and you sat back down, dizzy from whatever had just took place.
Despite the discomfort, your eyes drifted to where Hyunjin was sitting, wondering what his reaction would be.
Except he wasn’t there.
He’d walked out of the game.
