Why do you create?
I'm curious! Fellow creatives (artists, writers, musicians, vidders, gifmakers, coders, etc etc), what drives you to create? Why do you make the things you make?
(for the purposes of this poll, please pick the biggest reason, even if they all apply - which one motivates you the most right now?)
Please feel free to elaborate in the tags!

My brother got me an oled (bless him he is too sweet) so I decided to sell my first gen switch since I feel like the new one will be coming out this summer
And the gamestop employees are first of all the best employees ever. There's a manager and a second in command who are always there and are so chill and play dnd together and always run events. We came in and there was a pokemon trading event going on and they were giving away prizes. I got a sticker.
We roll in, my friend and I, and are talking to the manager about the sale. She's laughing like oh I'll give you full price if you give us some of that sauce (we had just gone to get me gluten free hoisen sauce)
So we chatted for a while and the second in commend floated up to us and goes "You want to hear a story?" Immediately we were both like absolutely.
So he proceeded to explain how a customer was pissed that they had only gotten $20 cash for an Xbox 360. The day he sold it the dude was like cool whatever gas money. But the next day he realized that he could have gotten a lot more either in trade in value or selling it himself. And so dude called the employee and said if he didn't give him a refund he would put a curse on the Xbox.
So the employee goes "jokes on you my mom is a witch" and then hangs up and calls his mom. And the mom tells him to write in permanent marker on his arm. He says no he's at work and can't do that. So she says okay then instead get some toilet paper. Draw a circle with an x. Put it on the Xbox. And flush it down the toilet.
He does so and he said he pet 4 dogs that afternoon. One was named pasta. So good luck acquired.
He left us with one regret. That he didn't get the details of the curse from the man. He would have asked. "What diety do you intend on cursing me with so i can properly protect myself?" And I want that as a mug.
The manager also proceeded to hand me pokemon chopsticks with no explanation at first mid story and afterwards was like oh yeah a Ramen bowl just broke and you look like someone who eats a lot of Ramen. I mean. You probably can't because you're gluten free. But you have options right? Right. Take the sticks.
Love them dearly.

low-key obsessed with how humans assign names to robots and find familiar shapes in the clouds and give inanimate objects genders and create fully developed characters with just their minds and sing songs to machines on faraway planets and treat animals like their children and books like their grandmothers and name their teddy bears and cars and little figurines and there's a lot of really horrible things in this world but i still think it's wonderful how humanity continues to stay kind despite it all

I often get upset because I feel like I'm too old to learn something new or to become good enough at something for it to matter.
But then I realize that I'm only 32 and it's totally possible to learn something in a year. Or two.
It's possible to hone my body. It's possible to start endurance or trail riding competitions or pick up volleyball.
And then my brain reminds me that age doesn't matter. I just watched Human Playground and saw a woman that was my mother's age take on the world's most gruelling foot race. There are so many adults starting new things and I have to remind myself that it's okay that I'm getting into these things now.

So, my ex's family had a lovely villa in Portugal that I visited a few times. In 2016, I went over 2 times - I had been abroad once prior to that. On the second visit to the villa, on my last day there, I was outside sketching some flowers on the roadside. Their elderly neighbour came out with her dog to see what I was doing - she didn't speak a lick of English. I was petting and fussing her dog, and she was complimenting my (then blue) hair by pointing to my hair, miming water/making ocean sounds, saying "Azul!!" while putting her hand on her chest, and following it with a thumbs up. I was grinning my head off.
After a while of our mimed conversation, she motioned for me to follow her to look at the flowers in her garden (pointing at my drawing, then to her house), so I did. Her garden was lovely rocky terrain with hardy flowers creeping onto every surface. There were several larger rocky ledges that acted like sparse stairs down the steep. Even though I had almost a foot of height on her and could easily navigate them, every single time we came across one, she'd slowly sit down on the ledge and carefully stand up, brush her hands off on her faded pink apron, then turn around to offer me her hand/make sure I got down safely. I took her hand every single time. At one point, I saw the biggest pinecone I had ever seen in my life - easily the size of my face - and clearly my amazement was plastered over my face as the little old lady scooped it up, brushed it off, opened my satchel and put it inside for me to keep.
After about an hour, my ex's mum came to find me and we went back inside after they shared a brief conversation in broken Portuguese. I drew lots of pictures of the lady's garden for her, made a makeshift envelope with the words "thank you!" written across it, and posted them through her letterbox that night before heading to the airport.
About 6 months later, in 2017, we went back over. On day 2 of us being there, someone knocked on the gate and my ex's mum answered. She came back inside about 10 minutes later and excitedly told me *I* had a visitor. I was super confused, but I went outside - and there was the elderly neighbour, with her dog, alongside another younger man (her nephew) with *his* dog. As soon as I come out, the neighbour loudly exclaimed "Blue!! Blue hair. Blue hair like dog. I bring more dog for blue hair!!!"
The next time I visited, she was out of town, and I wish I had known that was my last time going over. I hope she is sat in her garden now, enjoying a lemonwater, while her little dog rolls around in the aubretia flowers. I hope she knows that, in the 6 years since I last saw her, I've drawn her garden a million times since.

I am playing Jedi: Fallen Order and I just can't get over that people Made this. Every leaf, every stalagmite, every gust of wind was made by human hands. This may be one of the most beautiful games I've ever played. I stop and study each section. I want to look at every detail because someone made this.
Then, from Cal's pov, I am standing in a tome, and people made this! The arches, the devices and automatons, the scale.
I am in awe.

Hey, does anyone remember that one episode of the OG teen titans where it was that contest of champions or whatever? Becuase...
"Welcome, champions all! I am the Master of Games, and you are hereby invited to compete in the Tournament of the Strongest! Each of you have been specially chosen as the smartest and strongest each species has to offer."
"Hey, isn't that a fourteen-year-old?"
