I'm hella busy right now and I already barely had time to draw the Lagoona and Cleo designs, I then realized I had some problems with my first take on the big three so I redesigned them. I'll make bios for Lagoona and Cleo (as well as Ghoulia and Spectra, who are supposed to be part of this "Wave 1" lineup), but just unshaded full-bodies for now.

Tangent under the Cut!

I made some little changes for Frankie ( I now realize I didn't even complete the pattern of the leg warmers, but ngl I'm vibing with the asymmetry). I just thought their design was too busy to work for a doll. Not that I am planning on making these designs into dolls, but that was my mindset when designing them. The excessive patterns, while looking cool to me, might seem off-putting to see on shelves so I toned it down a bit. Also removed some layers of clothes cause LOL there is NO way Mattel would ever put that many layers on a playline doll. Also changed the shoes, kinda rushed the first ones I designed I didn't like them at all. I feel these one fit my direction for Frankie a lot more.

Cleo was very inspired by Mcbling era of 2000s fashion. I like G1 Cleo a lot, but I think she was of the main dolls who didn't really have a clear fashion style attached to her, just wearing Egyptian motifs. Which don't get me wrong, looked really good at times, but I feel a lot more could be done with her. I associate the Mcbling era with extreme consumerism and hyper-femininity, and like... if that's not Cleo. Gave Cleo hazy eyes, jaundice, and generally ashy skin so she looks especially dead looking.

I didn't really have that much beef with my Clawdeen design as much as I had beef with her drawing. Like it looked SO bad compared to the rest. I actually sat my as down and drew her braids this time. I also changed her bra-mesh shirt cause 1.) again, Mattel will never put that many layers on a playline doll 2.)IDK maybe I'm a prude but perhaps it was too much for a 15 year old?

Lagoona was really a case of having my cake (making her Australian) and eating it too (making her a WOC). My Lagoona Blue is a Yawk-Yawk, a sea creature with sea-weed hair from the Bininj indigenous people of Australia. I wanted to connect her to an actual sea creature because honestly G1 half-sea nymph thing was vague as hell, and G3 is giving us literally nothing.I'd like to imagine the seaweed being a plastic mold at the back of her neck, like Viperine snakes. A lot of redesigns of Lagoona tend to go for streetwear or sport-leisure, but I went for beach fashion cause I liked the vibes. To compensate for the utter mainstreamness of her fashion, I tried to give her weird makeup.

Drac changed significantly because she was the only one whose design I outright disliked, at least for a hypothetical core doll. I removed the pink streaks cause I thought while it might look cool as a drawing, it might look garish on a doll (that and It'd be difficult to root with a machine). Still think the design might be a hassle to translate to doll form (the skirt is WAY too much), so I might have to revise it, again. But I like this direction much more.

A Comprehensive History of How Leonidas Became Nearly Everyone's Object of Thirst

So, among the Dragalia Lost team, it was rather well known that they admitted to a strong Cleo bias.

It's pretty easy to see, in anything from Cleo's early spate of alts, like Dragonyule and Summer in quick succession, to the utterly random unique outfits they flaunted in ch.9 that you can just tell they drew for funsies but really liked them and wanted to put them in the game despite it serving no real purpose...

The dev team just really, really loved Cleo and drawing her. But after they apparently used up their Cleo allowance to make Gala Cleo probably the single strongest character in the game at the time, they cooled it down a bit.

However, as much as they were apparently thirsting over Cleo, I would joke that somewhere along the way, some part of the dev team, feeling desperate now that the yearly Cleo Allowance was running dry as they prepared to release Gala Cleo, decided to find a new fixation to quench their addiction.

And since Cleo was off-limits, they turned to the next best thing: crossing out the C in Cleo to find their newest substitute Dev Thirst character.

That's right, we're talking about the one and only Leonidas.

Leonidas had kinda just melded into the background with the rest of the siblings at this point to my observations. Sure, he was a campaign antagonist. People weren't particularly clamoring for him in particular over the other siblings, though. Honestly, I'd wager Emile was more popular at this stage, even in a 'love to hate' sense, just because we'd already seen him so much.

But then, it started. Whether it was art like this being posted on their twitter just a few scant months before G!Cleo's debut...

...They just seemed to have a certain edge in artworks featuring Mr. Curry in a way to make one squint and tilt your head sideways.

For instance:

It's one of those cases where you just kinda get a feeling the artist(s) found x attractive in a way that simultaneously still can give you a moment of self-doubt if that's not just you projecting because there's no blatantly obvious signs, you know? Whether it's something about the posing, or angles, whatever it is, I got this air increasingly whenever they put out any Leonidas art.

Thankfully, they decided to put me out of my misery and just flat out make what's likely the single most suggestive wyrmprint (or honestly art piece in general since Dragalia was thankfully very very very tame) starring none other than, you guessed it, Leonidas.

(Secret Cygames/Nintendo conversation, probably: "As you can see, it's vitally important that we draw this character in a speedo with sparkles around him." Nintendo: "...I'll allow it. This time.")

Even if he puts on some more clothes in the refined version, we're still back to that air I mentioned, as the shot focuses almost entirely on him instead of the wildly popular Chelle or his pet panther (which, yes, seemed to be an actual pet of his):

Even the Ilia-damned funny chibi comics got in on this thirst train as it went on and made quite possibly the raunchiest joke in the entire 400+ comic run featuring Leonidas, even if the exact same joke didn't make the translation overseas, however they tried. You can see a brief breakdown of that in THIS post.

Not content to restrict it to art and comics, Leonidas also dropped this line that is permanently engraved into my mind with just how shocking it was to see anything of this caliber in Dragalia, in his baby brother's story to boot!

At this point, I could no longer deny it: the devs and artists had collectively acquired a new fixation to satiate their once insatiable Cleo appetite in the form of Mr. Currymeister. (Don't worry about Emile there, he's just drowning, he does that all the time in waist-high water)

And this attitude even extends to in-universe, too! People increasingly fawned over the first prince, who very much was filling in the role of 'this prince you know vs. his hotter and more competent elder brother', as virtually represented by my expert skills in Microsoft Paint artistry as such:

Naturally, there was only so much time before the people IRL could succumb to Leonidas Fever (and no, this time we're not talking about all the people who were so devoted to this dude to effectively set themselves into a fatal, firey, steroid-filled death!) at this unrelenting onslaught.

It was hard not to see comments such as these that started pouring in (and yes, all of these were just about Leonidas exclusively):

(I'll attribute the misspelling to being overcome with Leonidas Fever, a grave illness indeed!)

(Another serious symptom: the decline of any self-preservation instinct around Leonidas, who is indeed Very Dangerous and Will Kill You!)

Ahem. You get the picture. Thus concludes the slow, insidious buildup from just another sibling for Euden to probably commit a whoopsie-daisy fratricide in the future to one of the fandom's favorite menaces, all carefully plotted-out by the collective efforts of devs who were the first to succumb to the sickness...Right?

This concludes my professional historical report on this very serious issue that I suspect lingers to this day. The Fever has but been put into remission; it has not faded yet.

So a long time ago I commented that some of the royal family seemed to have pointier teeth than normal, which I speculated because they deliberated giving a bit more 'draconic' traits to define dragonblood, and I didn't realize how pervasive this was until I saw Emile's model there. Look at his fang!

H20 mermay redesign

So in honour of mermay, and my rewatching h20 a couple of months ago, I did a redraw of the characters from h20 with my own head cannons and some explaining of my redesigns of course (: I really think that an animated reboot (not the one Netflix did) would be perfect for this show, and I wanted to convey my ideas. I also did try the make the designs resemble the actors at least a little bit.

Ricky

I love Ricky with all my heart, she’s definitely in my top 3 characters from this show. I’m obsessed with her hair in season one, especially when she puts it into braids. I kept her red motif from the first season as well. I want her to wear very early 2000s-esque grunge clothing. In terms of her mermaid look, I changed her colour to this orange/red-ish colour, and added details to make it look like flames.

I know a lot of people like to headcannon her as a lesbian, but personally I don’t. I think that she’s definitely pansexual with zero preferences and would go by she/her pronouns but would be ok with they/them.

Cleo

I honestly had so much fun with Cleo’s design. She has a bit of a bohemian style in the first season, but I decided to trade for a little more preppy look that I think reflects her character more. She’s sweet, caring, a little naive, but good spirited. So I put her in a trendy outfit with some cute patches to keep that homemade look. For her mermaid look, I wanted it to look like lace to mirror the patches on her skirt, and of course, it had to be purple.

My asexual ass has to headcannon her as ace and heteromantic. She’s also got the purple motif so that just adds to the ace-ness. She/her pronouns.

Emma

Emma’s design came really easily to me. I wanted to give her a kind of periwinkle colour scheme to match her ice. Her human design is simple, but I really wanted to keep it modern and trendy. Athleisure with high socks and bicycle shorts (and of course a sparkly top). Her mermaid design also came really easily to me, as I gave her sharp sparkly edges to resemble ice. Is it difficult to make a blonde, ice-themed character not look like Elsa? Yes

If anyone in the main three is a lesbian in my eyes it’s her. She’s hella gay with she/they pronouns.

Charlotte

Lol I don’t think I have anything positive to say about charlotte but damn I had so much fun drawing her. I really wanted her to look soft and sweet but give her the nastiest attitude ever. I put her in a preppy school girl outfit with soft pastel pink to make her look unassuming (at least to Lewis) and of course the necklace that the other three girls have.

Will

Threw a curveball at you didn’t I? That’s right, this is where my head cannons start, along with my inability to draw abs. Rewatching season 3, it only made sense to make him a mermaid instead of Bella, and I honestly feel like it could’ve been more interesting. Imagine him as a diver who got just a little too curious around Mako, and accidentally turns into a mermaid. His dreams of become a diver are ruined, however he got to be happy doing what he loved (exploring the ocean). It just makes more sense in my opinion.

For his main colour, I changed his motif of blue to green. I wanted to keep the blue colour for Emma and Lewis, and I honestly just felt like it suits him better. In terms of his powers, maybe the ability to control plants? Idk

He’s probably straight, maybe bi-curious. Goes by he/they but wouldn’t object to any pronoun. The chillest dude.

Bella

Bella was probably the hardest to adapt just cause I don’t love her character in the show. I decided to make her not a mermaid, and instead a love interest. I felt like it suited her better. I wanted to keep her colour palette soft and muted, and put her in sweet, bohemian style clothing. I feel like she would become a good friend of the main trio after the betrayal by charlotte. She would be an excellent friend and totally keep their secret as well as fall in love with Will.

Definitely bisexual, not opposed to a flirtationship with Emma (I just want them to meet) She/they.

Lewis

Look at this disaster man. I put him in messy clothes cause he probably couldn’t give two shits about what he looks like. He really does just want to go fishing.

Biromantic asexual (yes I am in fact projecting onto these characters). He/him.

Zane

I personally love Zane. I know he’s not everyone’s cup of tea, but I love characters who are shitty people and even when they’re on “the side of good”, they continue to be shitty people. Just more focused and positive. When I was a kid I was 100% on board with his relationship with rikki, and honestly a part of me still is. So for my headcannon, he doesn’t cheat on her, the cafe doesn’t get in the way of their relationship, and he treats Rikki so much better. Cause they had fantastic chemistry and I don’t want it to go to waste.

For his design I gave him two looks, a casual motorcycle riding outfit, and of course a business suit. I made his main colour black, but I had to give him dark red accents as a nod to Ricky.

Heterosexual, he/him.

Lastly

The love interests as mermaids. This is not a part of my headcannon (yet). In terms of powers I have a couple ideas that do, in fact, include Lewis being able to talk to marine life. Poor boy will never go fishing again. In terms of Bella’s powers i really hate what they gave her, so I was thinking wind or bubbles or something air-related. As for Zane? He’s definitely the hardest to pin down for powers but I’m thinking either shadow manipulation or storm related powers (like lightning). Maybe a combo of both.

i honestly miss kieran valentine and i doubt he’ll ever appear in g3 because he was a one off character from why do ghouls fall in love BUT can we talk about how cool it would be to have him there?!? esp since monster high is giving us more rep w frankie being non binary and cleo x frankie / clankie !!! cuz i think that kieran is gay for that one dude, like it was in his diary or whatever. anyway regardless if they added him and made him kiss boys i think he would just be a cool addition, i’d really like to see draculaura interact with some of her fellow g1 vampires. anyway there’s my monster high thought dump for the day i think i will draw g3 kieran soon. because i miss him…. sigh

tempting because i love drawing skizz but honestly my design for him isn’t all that different from canon or even fanon

i know the fanon right now is that he’s an angel/part angel but recently i’m not the biggest participator in hybrid designs :p

(i answered this ask and then proceeded to use this ask as an excuse to ramble about some of my design process….)

i do think its really cute though, especially when paired with demon impulse, because their personalities don’t perfectly match what would be expected from angels and demons typically.

skizz is wayyy more chaotic and impulse is betrayed more times than he betrays other people, just as examples, yet i still find the designs fun as a duo!

(begs the question though — angel and demon from what? the christian heaven and hell? the minecraft heaven and hell? is this a watcher lore thing that i don’t know about because i don’t keep up with the watcher lore? probably none of those actually, it doesnt really need explained [like how theres no explanation really needed for how cleo’s a sentient zombie, its all for fun])

i don’t really do hybrid designs as much as fanon does because my goal with designing them is to capture their vibe, or how i perceive their personality. like a person who’s watched a lot of hermitcraft but has never seen hermitcraft fanart could look at my drawing and say “i’m almost certain that’s bdubs”. and doing hybrids doesnt always fit in to that for me! you’ve probably noticed i’ve gone super back and forth on my zed design, particularly whether he should have long or short hair and whether he should be a sheep hybrid or not. i’m partial to the ‘not’ but i havent really decided yet— we’ll see!

though if a person’s mc skin is already a hybrid or if that just fits well with their energy (ren the canonical dog ; gem just reads as a deer/similar to me) i do draw them as that! i just don’t always hop on fanon hybrids, like grian is never an avian or any other hybrid in my recent drawings, and etho has become more and more human as well, etc.

Monster High gen 3 as gen 1's kids. Just touch up the designs and change the names a bit.

Franky; gen1Franky and Jackson became scientists, got married, and made Fran. (literally, with corpse parts and a metal leg.) gen3 Franky is so different from gen1, all you gotta do is change the name. Franky's dog is "Watzit" while Fran's dog is "Watzy."

Clawdeen; gen1 Clawdeen became a fashion designer, married Venus (let me have my ship) and then had a werewolf kid named Clawrissa. Just add some flowers and a bit of green to her design and boom. (Also, I always kind of thought Venus was south American, could be wrong, but that could work for making Clawrissa part Hispanic)

Draculaua; She and Clawd got married (somehow it works, idk) had a vampire daughter, named Lorelei. (it's kind of close to Draculaura and it's very elegant sounding) I think you could keep the overall design of gen3 Draculara, as her daughter looking a lot like her kind of suits the characters in my mind. But you'd have to change the pink to something a bit different, maybe a hue of red or purple.

Cleo and Deuce; Gen1 Cleo left her abusive family and married Deuce. He does various cook related things, and because she left her rich family, she's had to learn how to save money, which lead her to becoming the owner of a VERY popular secondhand boutique. They had a half gorgon/half mummy child named, lets say 'Calypso' (cause it kind of sounds like the name Cleo and is greek) Just take gen3's design and add slit pupils and put some blue snakes mixed in with her hair. (Why doesn't she wear glasses? either she has good control over the turn to stone thing or just can't do it at all XD)

Deuce; Gen3 Deuce, make him look a bit more like the live action movie version, make him the kid of Viperine, change his color scheme a bit, and change his name to some sort of masculine sounding pun about snakes. (Adder??)

Toralei; gen1Toralei works as a bartender (idk if she had a career in mind, so...i'm just going with bartender for now cause i think it suits her) she's a single mom, though gets help from her own mom. (Headmaster Bloodgood, cause I love the idea of them being family, it's funny) For the daughter, use the doll version of gen3 with the longer hair, and name her, idk, Tabitha? (cause Tabby cats) and there ya go, there's that family.

Bloodgood; Honestly I just kind of like gen3's design better, so...XD

Heath; Gen1 Heath and Gen1Abby had a son, let's call him Pyro. He is a lot like his dad, but wears a bit of blue cause of his mom.

Abby; uhhhhh, just a different Abominable Snowman girl?

Lagoona; Gen1 Lagoona and Gill got married and one year went to Mexico, and found a young sea monster girl fending for herself. They adopted her. All you gotta do is change gen3Lagoona's name. Pacifica? Lala?

So, after posting my fancast the other day, we have finally arrived at the OCs that go with it!! Honestly, I’m so excited to share these babies with you guys; Monster High was one of my first hyperfixations ever, and despite how long it’s been since I properly interacted with it, I’ve never stopped loving it. So without further ado, please observe my beautiful freaky babies!!

(Also gonna tag my beloveds @manyfandomocs and @ginevrastilinski-ocs, because I know they’ve been waiting for this!! <3)

Nyx Darkfeather, a fallen angel, Jackson/Holt ship. The daughter of two angels who fell from Heaven. A new student at Monster High because her parents homeschooled her for a long time, scared of her being hurt for what she is since fallen angels are so rare. Very stone-faced, blunt, and closed-off, but eventually gets pulled into Frankie’s friend group after they make it their mission to befriend her, and winds up slowly being endeared by Jackson and Holt. Pretty powerful as the child of two angels, with umbrakinesis and some psychic powers, but she doesn’t use them very often. Also becomes besties with Twyla, since they’re both very used to the shadows.

Aiko Inoue, daughter of the Slit-Mouthed Women, Deuce ship. An exchange student from Japan who eventually decides to stay and learn at Monster High. Kind of has a bad reputation at first because of her mother and how quiet she is, but eventually people start to warm up to her. Gets close to Deuce after she gets assigned to tutor him in History of the Undead shortly after he and Cleo break up, and they eventually wind up becoming a super cute couple. Intensely shy and awkward and often uses her spirit powers to turn invisible or disappear for long periods of time, but also very caring and loyal. Becomes really good friends with the hybrids, especially Neighthan and Serena.

Chester Hoppington, a wererabbit, Gil ship. Only attends Monster High in person part-time because he cares for his eight younger siblings while his parents work. An incredible artist who meets Gil when he decides to go swimming in the school pool while Chester is there doing a drawing of the water. Incredibly sweet and caring as a result of having to be a babysitter so often, but also surprisingly stubborn and never afraid to speak out for the people he cares about. Has bunny ears and a little tail, and also has a habit of rapidly tapping his feet when he’s frustrated or angry. Eventually gets pulled into the ghouls’ friendship, and even becomes really good friends with Lagoona despite her and Gil being exes.

Matthew Steam, a robot, Frankie ship. Robecca’s “twin” brother since Hezekiah built them at the same time, and got dismantled shortly after her when he tried to confront the Gargoyles about what they did to her. A lot more socially awkward than his sister, but surprisingly adjusts to modern life a lot easier because he was always more interested in science and mechanics and he gets incredibly excited about all the new advancements. A total nerd who goes on a lot of excited rants about his interests, which Frankie is only too happy to listen to. Also an iconic sibling duo with Robecca.

Bonita Calaveras, a skeleton, Heath ship. Skelita’s older sister by eleven months, so they’ve always been in the same school year. Does the transfer with her sister and Jinafire, because she’s always seen it as her job to protect Skelita. Tries to keep Heath away from Skelita when she learns how much of a flirt he is, but just winds up falling for him instead. Fiercely loving and protective of those she cares about, but also sometimes forgets to take care of herself. The best sibling duo with Skelita, and also comes really good friends with Jinafire because they enjoy judging people together.

Dabria Yelps, a zombie, Draculaura ship. Ghoulia’s younger sibling who uses they/she pronouns, and definitely the more creativity-minded of the two; an incredible writer who wants to publish romance novels one day. Also a hopeless lesbian who falls in love with Draculaura almost the moment they meet her, but it takes a while for them to get together because Draculaura still needs to get over her breakup with Clawd and Dabira is way too awkward to properly confess for the longest time. She’s also best friends with Howleen and Twyla, and kinda goes through it for a bit during the whole Shadow Genie ordeal.

Gaia Nature, child of Mother Nature, Abbey ship. Homeschooled in the forest for a good portion of their life, but finally allowed to attend Monster High because they’ve always wanted to meet more kids their age. A total and complete sweetheart because they’ve always been taught to be kind to all living creatures, but also tends to be kind of naïve and overly trusting because they haven’t really been around actual people very much. They and Abbey are a total opposites attract couple, but Abbey is very soft for them and also manages to toughen them up a bit, so they work very well together. Definitely besties with Rochelle, Robecca, and Venus, and frequently teams up with Venus on environment-saving endeavors.

Chord Nightingale, a siren, Manny ship. Head of the Monster High choir, which Manny is forced to join as a punishment from Headmistress Bloodgood after beating up another student. Totally outgoing and sunshiney, which doesn’t allow him to get long with Manny at first. Mostly confident but also scared of ever accidentally enchanting someone with his siren song after an incident that happened when he was a kid that he’s never told anyone about. Eventually grows close to Manny and the two of them start to open up to each other, until they finally get together. Doesn’t really have many friends despite being a social butterfly, but eventually becomes pretty close with the ghost crew - Operetta, Scarah, Serena, and Johnny Spirit - and they become kind of an iconic group.

woevember is an asoue fanwork event week, that will take place from november 13th through november 19th, 2022. each day of that week is dedicated to a different group of characters from a series of unfortunate events and all the wrong questions.

what do i do?

the character groups will be revealed now, so everyone has time to make something. between now and the week of november 13th, you’ll create fanworks about the characters, and then post it on the corresponding day during november 13th - 19th!

what do you mean by fanwork?

everything! fanfic and fanart are of course allowed, but also edits, gifs, analysis posts, even just headcanons!! super short fics!! your sketchiest drawings!! i want people to be encouraged to and be able to create even something small that didn’t exist before for the snicketverse, and share it with other people!

are there any rules?

to keep the event open and comfortable for everyone, no explicit content. also, this should go without saying, but in case it doesn’t, sibling romance and age gaps are not allowed and will not be tolerated.

do i have to make something for every day?

only if you want to! feel free to just make something for one day if you want :) the point of having a different character group for each day is so everyone’s favorite character (or a character you like or find interesting) will hopefully come up at some point, so everyone’s covered, and you can at least make something for one of the days.

what are the prompts?

i tried to get a good mix of characters we already love a lot, and characters who you might not have thought about before!

november 13th – sugar bowl gen siblings

the best siblings. the worst siblings. they’re going through a lot, at all times. "the schism has turned many brothers into enemies."

character options include: snickets, denouements, anwhistles, calibans, sebalds

november 14th – firestarters

what makes a “firestarter”? (besides needing to find seven broad categories in which to fit many, many characters.)

character options include: olaf, esme, the bald man, fernald, the henchperson, the white-faced women, the man with a beard but no hair, the woman with hair but no beard (also related characters, like ernest, georgina, olivia)

november 15th – the city

there is so much in The City! and so much with a deep vfd history, that every aspect of the city must’ve crossed paths with vfd or the baudelaire’s story at some point, in some way.

character options include: jerome, eleanora, geraldine, esme squalor’s fanclub, honestly anyone you would like to stick in a specifically City location

location options include: the punctilio, the banking district, the herpetological society, the hemlock tearoom and stationery shop, the taxi, the opera, the fountain of victorious finance, 667 dark avenue, veblen hall, orion observatory

november 16th – unseen characters

there’s plenty of characters we hear about in the series, but never actually really see. give us your takes on them!

character options include: lemony's editor, the snicket parents, olaf's parents, haruki, the baudelaire's uncle elwyn, madame dilustro, gina sue, whoever beatrice and bertrand invited to their dinner parties besides mr. poe, moxie's mother, ellington's mother, violet's friend ben, lemony's friend playing the sonata on the pipe organ in the cathedral of the alleged virgin

november 17th – stain’d-by-the-sea

what becomes of stain’d-by-the-sea and all the people still living there, after lemony leaves? what happens to wade academy? what happens to ellington?

november 18th – the unfortunate generation

is there a character you want to make something for that didn’t necessarily fit in these categories? you absolutely can! i’m just giving options in the free space.

can i include other characters that aren’t a part of the group set for each day?

yes, as long as the major focus of the work is still on the designated group! for example, for sugar bowl gen siblings, you could definitely make something about, say, beatrice interacting with the snicket siblings, as long as the focus of the work is still on the snicket siblings. or, for stain’d-by-the-sea, you could definitely write about those characters interacting with vfd characters, or the unfortunate gen, or even mr. poe, as long as the focus of the work is still on the stain’d-by-the-sea characters.

(also to be abundantly clear its still me, your loyal asker, ive just changed my username, i have not abandoned you i promise)

The Mummbo-Griann-Scar combo/group is probably the one I think about the most, though I also have a lot of love for my other disaster trio, Cleaoh-Eethos-Bedubs. Which is funny because I’m not a huge Clethubs person generally (nothing against it! I don’t think poorly of it or anything, I actually like it, it’s just not Ver-bait.). But there’s something about these two blue bloods that everyone finds scary & their blustering but generally amicable bronze blood quadrant mate, & the fact that if you dare touch their low blood, they will completely fuck you up. (They consider themselves in a stable 3-way auspistism, but, because this an AU made by my queer ass self, they tend to drift around the quadrants a bit. Nothing as…. Intense as Scar & Griann, but sometimes one of them will be feeling pale or flushed towards another & they just roll with it like it’s nbd. & occasionally, Bedubs lets Eethos & Cleo drift a bit more pitch. You know. As a treat.)

Relatedly, I personally subscribe to the thought that an auspistism can be either two or three trolls: you’ve got dynamic auspistices, where they generally act as this meme for each other

& then there’s stable auspistisms, where one party is consistently auspistizing for two others. I can’t back this up at all with Homestuck canon, but it was a fairly common head canon for a bit back in the day & I like it so in the AU it goes!

Anyway, back to the question. It’s really funny, because I’m sooooo hype for so many of the characters & spend so much time thinking about all of them, but I just keep drawing Eethos instead of any of the many other trolls I still need to make art for. I think it’s because his cartoon moose antlers delight me so. (Also there’s just something about characters with pale/white hair that gets me every time. Every single ship I’ve ever been properly feral for has included at least one pale haired dude & I still cannot figure out why. Also they all have red eyes. Fuck.) (Note: I’m not including Scarian in that because while I am devoted to Scarian, it’s not like how I am over SmallEtho. I am unhinged about those two lol.) (Nevermind, my fiancé just pointed out that my first ever ship— Zutara—didn’t include a pale haired dude with red eyes, just every single one since then.)

Okay, so Pearle. From what I’ve got figured out, she starts out on the same ship as Scohtt, Jimmie, Martyn, & Wrehnn, as she & Scohtt are moirails at that point. Post-Double Life, Pearle ends up a bit sour about how Scohtt acted towards her, & winds up deciding to spend some time on another ship. For a while she hangs out with Bigbee on his tiny transport ship, but it is, you know, tiny, so Bigbee introduces her to Gem, a defected Alternian military officer who is currently wandering space doing piracy. Pearle & Gem hit it off & Pearle joins Gem on her (slightly) larger ship.

After Limited Life, they both move on to the Tangoh-Impuls-Skizzl ship for a variety of reasons. For one, they want to be more connected to Pearle, & eventually Gem’s, VLARP friends & honestly the crew of that ship has the least amount of nonsense happening out of anyone. But also, Gem’s ship doesn’t have the speed that Impuls can make happen, & the Alternian military isn’t taking too kindly to Shiny Duo’s piracy & connections to the resistance. So, when Gem’s ship gets burned (as in it is no longer capable of going undetected), it’s the last straw pushing them to join up with another group. As of post-Secret Life, the five of them are all still living harmoniously on the ship together, though they sometimes have additional guests (mostly Jimmie but Bedubs as well).

As for what Pearle is doing outside of where she lives, crime, mostly. She helps Gem with piracy for a while & once they properly join the resistance, Pearle runs a lot of operations type stuff.

A fun fact about Pearle: She is actually also a mutant like Griann, though hers presents as moth wings she keeps hidden & secret.

HI I love the way you draw Grian, Scar, Cleo, and Joel - honestly the way you draw everyone??? So good. I'll just be scrolling my dash and see your stuff like !!!! Elle omg !!! once again feeding the mcyt community lets gooooo. I really want to interact with you more but I know you probably get a lot of asks so I don't want to fill your inbox with stupid stuff when you don't even know me lmao, but I hope nothing but good things happen to you forever and always because you seem like a chill person who loves their friends <3

Hi! First off, love your art style, it's so pretty, and the way you draw characters is so unique that even the ones you draw for fandoms could be seen as your own oc's but also somehow perfectly convey the characters you are drawing at the same time! (I hope that makes sense-)

I've recently discovered your Noir AU and I must admit it's definitely one of the more unique aus I've seen in a long while. I love how you draw the characters, they're designs are delicious (/pos)!

If it's not to much to ask, would you be willing to share more info regarding the AU? Things like (non-revealing of course) backstories for how some of the characters or gangs came to be, any current rivalries ongoing between groups, or if there is any, any ships? for noir info.... hrmmm. cleo used to work for doc -- he was the one who patched her up after she lost an eye -- but she was always too ambitious (some would say power-hungry) to be content as someone's right-hand-man and she eventually split off from the hive to start her own gang. joe was a civilian who had worked up some unfortunate debts due to equally unfortunate circumstances, and cleo saw his potential and convinced him to join her in her efforts to build a name for herself. noir au is very wobbly in my mind in terms of format but if i ever wrote like, a longfic about it, cleo and joe would probably be the main pov characters.

other than that, i honestly wish that i could say i had more notable character backstories? mumbo and grian are childhood friends, doc and keralis have A History, ren's been building up his own ramshackle logging company for the past several years. keralis was born into money and uses it very irresponsibly and has been married many times bc people keep trying to murder him for his wealth and then leave either because he hypnotizes them out of it or because they find out how batshit insane he is and decide its not worth the effort. stress and doc are cousins, stress used to work for doc as his medic but quit because they butted heads over many things and later joined up with cleo as a kind of petty revenge against him. XB is just a mysterious somewhat-wealthy guy who just kind of... showed up one day. hypno's lived in the city all his life and mostly struggled to break even selling weapons until he and XB started working together and quickly found out that they could run MAD schemes together with their combined methods. cub and scar's backstory is currently a mystery even to me, but they've known each other for many years and will know each other for many more.

as for rivalries between groups, i mean, they're all direct competitors, so none of them like each other, but at the hypothetical start of the story the standings would be like... the main three current biggest gang powers in westport are the hive, the boneyard, and boatem. the hive has been around for years and years and has been deathly effective all that time. the resident empire, etc etc. everyone knows not to fuck with them. the boneyard is far more recent, but has proven to be a shockingly effective power in its own right, which is a threat to the hive's standings, so there's kind of a bitter past-fueled competition going on there. boatem, for its part, was not taken seriously at all until recently, when the previous leader died and left his protege in charge -- mumbo -- and while mumbo isn't a very good leader in his own right, he's really just the puppet front for grian, who, with pearl and impulse backing him up, is raising boatem through the ranks at a frightening pace. so the main conflict of the nonexistent plot might be boatem's rekindled emergence and the consequences of that.

and as for ships, ehhhh, if i ever write some kind of longfic there probably won't be any like, Canon Ships, it'll just be up to reader interpretation. this is mainly because 1. indecisive, 2. not very interested in writing romance most of the time, 3. want to appeal to a wider audience, and 4. what i often jokingly refer to as "queerbaiting my audience" in which i imagine im writing an ambiguously homoerotic published novel and construct entirely subtextual relationships between my characters because it entertains me dearly. for that matter even outside of longfic there aren't really canon ships in noir au persay. idk man. joe and cleo are up to whatever joe and cleo are always up to. ren is a whore for the mafia (doc) there's no getting around that one but the extent of his whoreishness is based on my mood. doc and keralis are 300 pages deep into a novel published in 1950 with the most insane enemies to lovers homoerotic subtext youve read in your life but again the extent of this is based on my mood. xb and hypno's relationship is up to viewer interpretation [looking directly into the camera mouthing "they're gay"]. i think at one point i invented a crackship between pixlriffs and xisuma, who co-run the newspaper that martyn is a reporter for, but i genuinely do not remember why the hell i was doing that. and also pix and xisuma have literally no story relevance anyway. also cub and scar are gay in the way where it's inherently gay to run a speakeasy together.

PLEASE give me the rundown of Scar's Moving Swaggon oh my goodness

HI BLUIE SORRY I TOTALLY DIDN'T FORGET THIS ASK I totally did

I wanted to draw some stuff to this but haven't gotten there, aha But here are some links that explain a bit of it! Here and here So it follows somewhat of Howls Moving Castle but not exact. Scar is Howl and has his Swaggon that is controlled by Jellie. Unlike Calcifer she can move around the swaggon and take a form of just a regular cat if she chooses. Touching her or having her in your lap you will notice she's much warmer than a normal cat. She never leaves the Swaggon Grian owns a shop that has random items he finds and sells. Some of them are normal, some are magical which is what gets him in trouble So the start would be he gets a hold of a magical item but doesn't know just how important/desired it is. As he's traveling back to his shop, he gets heckled by the king's guards, and they want the item for the king. Which Grian says no and is about to get into a scuffle with them when Scar appears. Once the guards are off, he takes Grian back to his shop instead of taking him to Pearl at the bakery. They talk along the way, or mostly Scar talks, behind his charming self. At the store, Scar buys the item that Grian got a hold of. He's not sure why this item that doesn't seem that important is so desired. But Scar pays him handsomely, so he honestly doesn't mind Before leaving, Scar gives him a little peck on the cheek and leaves. Leaving Grian absolutely flustered by this. Only to realize after he's left, he's the infamous Scar. So he makes his way to his sister's bakery to talk for a while. Where she scolds him for being so reckless and picking a fight with the king's guards, of all people. He mutters that he can take care of himself, but shares the rest. She tells him to be careful he's messing with things that could get him in trouble And trouble he does, when he's back at his shop/home he's confronted by someone, that someone being Cleo. They ask for the item that he sold to Scar and he tells her as much. She's not happy about this and wants her item back, Grian tells her to take it up with Scar. She's not able to get close to Scar, so she gets an idea. Mind you, I don't think Cleo is evil here, she's just doing what she can to get what her's back So, Grian gets turned into an avian and is told if he wants to change back, he needs to get her item back. So after having a bit of a freak-out, knocking a bunch of stuff over with his new wings, he finally packs up and heads for the waste to find Scar. Along the way he meets a scarecrow with a dapper mustache that seems to like to follow him. Not knowing this is Mumbo But he finds the swaggon similar to how Sophie does, and meets Bdubs in the morning, who's surprised that this random avian has shown up. But also that Jellie has made herself comfortable in his lap. Since Jellie doesn't do that for just anyone, so he must be special if she's happy with him here This is Grian's first taste of actual magic since the items he sells. He doesn't know what they do or have any use for them. But getting to watch Scar and Bdubs work fascinates him. Even if Bdubs annoys him with how often he tries and finds something to poke fun at Grian comes out and tells Scar the next time he sees him that he needs that item back, and he has the money he gave him. Scar tells him flat out no, which Grian is frustrated and tries to beg. He'd love to stop being half bird sooner than later When Scar looks him up and down he flusters, he doesn't like the look he has. Scar offers a deal, if Grian completes the deal, then they'll talk about the item. Not knowing that Scar has a plan for Grian, Grian lets out an exasperated sigh and agrees. Even if it's less than ideal, but at least he has a chance to get the item back from Scar sometime He just didn't expect to be working with or for this guy Of course feelings happen along the way, that's about as far as I've gotten. I think when it comes time to meet with the King, Scar convinces Grian to go for him not as a family member but like his boyfriend or husband and Grian is beyond flustered at this thought
