It may be a silly fan theory, but the whole "Takakura and the farmer's father were romantically involved" theory really brings me joy.
Seeing him blush when your kid calls him Grandpa, and the townsfolk call him a part of your family at the firework festival and how he narrates the game of the farmer's life talking to him is so heart warming.
He may be a dumb tutorial NPC to most but that is Grandpa Takakura to me and I love him.

Sometimes I think about how the plot of A(nother) Wonderful Life is, quite literally, “marry the first person of the opposite sex willing to drop everything and raise your child all because some asshole demands you do it or you don’t get to keep the property that technically YOU inherited and he had 20-30 years to make functional but refused to do so. Oh yeah, and make friends with the various people who kinda act like they’re trapped here even when they want to leave.”
…and I just. Kinda laugh in aspec terror yet again.

So Soon?- Daryl
Daryl was finally taking some time off from his experiments to rest his brain… Well, he never truly rested his brain. He instead exercised it in another way. Getting out a notebook and a pen, he used a random number generator of his own design to decide what he could use in math problems and equations. Numbers were stable and unchanging, the ultimate comfort in its lack of change. Finally, he found himself relaxing. KNOCK KNOCK KNOCK Of course he’d be interrupted! Who dared to show up at his door? His last visitor was yesterday! Unless it was Melody, he would be sure to shoo them away. ...Wait… Why would he think to give Melody an exception?
Questioning himself, the scientist was surprised to see it was indeed Melody standing there. He did tell himself he wouldn’t shoo her away… “Hey, Daryl. Sorry to bug you again so soon. I just didn’t want to forget to lend these to you.” Melody held out a stack of books to him. “I made a list of the order I recommend and some interesting pages.” Daryl took the stack, noting the piece of paper on top. Hm. Her handwriting was quite legible. “I will try to read them when I have free time,” he informed. “No rush!” Melody chirped. “I’ll go ahead and get out of your hair now. I just didn’t want to forget to give those to you.” “You don’t have to leave!” Daryl replied with more urgency than he would have liked. Why did he say that?!?! “Oh?” Melody smiled, pleasantly surprised. “I wouldn’t mind visiting for a little bit,” Daryl stepped aside to let her into his home, gesturing to his little couch for her to sit on before taking a seat at his desk chair. “What did you want to talk about today?” the scientist found himself asking, The farmer’s brows rose as she realized Daryl wasn’t taking lead of the conversation today.
“Oh, well…” Melody scratched her head. “I don’t have any topics off the top of my head… but I have been making progress in training Russet, if that’s of any interest to you?” “You are training… a potato?” Daryl asked incredulously. “Oh, no,” Melody chuckled. “Russet is my puppy. Sorry I forgot to mention him. He was a stray who showed up on the farm the same day I arrived.” “Oh. Well, I do find the idea of training a living creature to be interesting. What are you training him to do? What methods are you utilizing?” “I’m not training him to do anything fantastic, really; just some basics. Sit, stay, lie down, fetch, that sort of thing. Also hold.” “Hold?” Daryl asked. “I want him to stop barking when I say so. Basically, I’m teaching him to pick something up in his mouth and keep it there. If he has something in his mouth, he can’t bark!” “It may be counter intuitive to discourage barking if you want a proper guard dog.” “Oh, I’m not keeping him as a guard dog,” Melody chuckled, “I don’t think I really need one and I doubt he’ll grow to be particularly large in the first place.” “If you don’t need a guard dog, why are you keeping him?” “Because he needed a home and I needed a new companion animal!” she chirped. “He’s such a cute and sweet little puppy! Would you like to meet him sometime? I’m trying to socialize him and Takakura isn’t a fan.” “That is to be expected. He seems to have mild cynophobia. I’m surprised he allowed you to keep the dog at all.” “Cynophobia?” “Fear of dogs.” “Oh no,” Melody frowned, her gaze falling to the floor “I wish I had known that before... Maybe I can help him with his fear somehow. Russet is still a puppy after all. He’s nowhere near threatening at this point.” “That makes sense. Such an endeavor sounds like it would be beneficial for all of you.” “Then I’ll definitely have some work to get to when I get home…” She let out a sigh before shaking her head. “Sorry. I didn’t mean to bring the mood down. Let’s talk about something else.”
“Like what?” Daryl asked. “Hm… Well, if we stick to animals as a subject… do you have a favorite kind of animal?” “I prefer rats,” he answered simply. “Because they’re good for testing and experiments?” “Shockingly, no. It was during my years in high school that I took a class that kept two rats as pets. I found them to be intelligent creatures and they proved kinder to me than the teachers and other students. I was able to find respite in their presence.” “Oh… I’m sorry others were less than kind to you.” The scientist bristled. “I do not need to be pitied,” he informed with a huff. “Sorry,” Melody held up her hands in a placating manner. “So, have you ever considered getting pet rats for yourself?” “I have not considered the notion since my youth. My mother always denied my request to have them. Now that I am an adult, I’ve found I have no time for such things.” “Ah, yeah. Then it’s probably best you don’t have them. Animals need love and attention and a good deal of your time.” “That is why I’ve decided against them.” Melody simply nodded and went quiet a moment. “...You know, while he may not be a rat, you may enjoy playing with Russet. He’s still an animal companion and I am looking to socialize him.” “You mentioned that before… I suppose I could, provided the dog doesn’t bite.” “The most he does is nip when he’s playing sometimes. You’ll be perfectly fine,” she assured. “Then I will visit when I have time.” “I look forward to it! Thanks!” Melody chirped. Daryl nodded and quietly wondered why Melody was so excited and why he’d agreed to this in the first place. He wasn’t overly fond of dogs… so why was he going to socialize one? Perhaps Melody was the reason. “Are you okay, Daryl?” the farmer asked. “”What do you mean?” “You just looked deep in thought there. If you need to get back to your research, I can leave.” While today was his day off, so to speak, he had some things he needed to think over now. “I would like to return to my research,” the scientist bluffed. “I will see you on the farm when I am ready.” “Okay. No problem. Thanks for talking to me today. I look forward to your visit. See you then!” With that, Melody returned to her farm and Daryl to his thoughts.

Hi, I've seen you're still doing the character breakdown thing and wondered if you could do one with Nami from AWL/HM DS? :)
Ah, Nami, our soft-spoken wanderer.  She’s often found in nature contemplating various things and her past is a bit of a mystery.  She’s a very curious character and I’m really fond of her.
Tumblr media
How I feel about this character: My first exposure to Nami was in Harvest Moon DS.  She struck me as quiet, thoughtful, and a little lonely.  I was also a little intimidated by her because she was much more blunt than the other female characters in general.  I really like her and think that she’s an interesting character with a lot of potential for an extended backstory.  I think that wanderer characters would have some fascinating stories.  I’ve yet to finish wooing her on my file, but she’s probably one of my favorite girls in Forget-Me-Not Valley, if not my favorite.
All the people I ship romantically with this character
Nami x Farmer: I feel like Nami would adjust well to farm life.  She asks the player character about the farm and enjoys the tranquility of it.  Although she doesn’t really help with farm chores in game, I can easily imagine her wanting to be part of it all, eager to give it a try.  She admires the farmer for their independence and their ability to be self-sufficient.
Nami x Muffy: Nami frequenting the bar, Muffy’s disappointment with men that always let her down… Ah, I can imagine an angsty fic where the two fall in love without realizing it and Muffy chases after Nami after she runs out of money and has to leave town.
Nami x Rock: Okay, hear me out, lol.  They spend a lot of time together at the inn.  I think that they could teach each other important lessons about taking responsibility and opening up to others.  I could see Ruby being really happy with this arrangement, as I feel she really sees Nami as a daughter.  It could be one of those cases where opposites attract.  At the very least, it would be really interesting.
Nami x Cody: They both have inquiring minds and creative sides.  I feel like Nami would be really intrigued by Cody’s art and maybe even get involved in creating her own.  It would be really cute if she moved in with him and they had a studio together, creating their own works and maybe even some collaborations.
My non-romantic OTP for this character
Nami/Gustafa: I feel like these two have good chemistry and would be great friends.  They both have wonder for the world around them and want to wander and explore.  I think they’d have interesting stories to tell each other.
Nami/Griffin: As a regular at the bar, Nami and Griffin would definitely be seeing each other a lot.  I can see Griffin giving Nami advice when she asks for it and him being a sort of mentor for her.  Meanwhile, I think Nami’s curiosity about the world in general would make for some good conversations.
Nami/Ruby:  I can easily see Ruby taking Nami in as a daughter.  The two get along very well, and Nami is much more grateful for the things Ruby does than her own son.  I can see Nami helping around the inn to earn a little extra money and Ruby giving her free dinners to her favorite tenant.
Nami/Marlin: These two could easily be drinking buddies, venting about their days and just having lots of comfortable silence between the two of them.
Nami/Takakura:  I feel like these two would be good friends, especially if Nami marries the farmer and lives on the property.  I could imagine Takakura teaching her all about animal care and Nami being fascinated by it.  I imagine the bond being a bit of a father/daughter one.
My unpopular opinion about this character
I’m going to duck and cover as I say this, but I feel like Nami x Gustafa feels forced in the games.  Gustafa seems perfectly happy doing his own thing, and while I feel that they could spend some quality time together, I have a hard time imagining it as romantic.  Honestly, I think Cody would be a much better partner for her.  Gustafa and Cody do have similar qualities such as creativity and a pure wonder when it comes to appreciating the world around them, but Cody is a little more introverted and soft spoken.
One thing I wish would happen / had happened with this character in canon.
I really liked Nami’s interactions with Ruby at the inn, and I was hoping that her and Rock would become closer and be good influences on each other.  Now, before you ask me how Rock can be a good influence on anyone, he can teach her that it’s okay to rely on people sometimes, and also how to speak up for herself and have more confidence in general.  I feel like her independence can also be a good thing, though, and she’d have a lot to teach Rock, including gratitude for what you are given.  I really like the idea of Ruby, Rock, Tim, and Nami as a family unit.
I’d also love more backstory on Nami’s family.  Nami mentions her father, but it’s hard to tell what he’s like other than he wasn’t happy about her leaving and could possibly be worried about her.  It does give a little more wiggle room when it comes to writing fanfiction for her, but in game it feels like a lingering mystery.

Snow and Coffee pt 1
Have you ever wanted to read a fanfic about Daryl from HM AWL/DS? Have I got the thing for you. Part 1 below.
Leaves crunched under your feet as she walked downhill from your farm. The red and gold of Fall had given way to a gray Winter, with an exceptionally windy week not only freckling the town with the last color of the season but also heralding in dense clouds. With your breath puffing out in front of you, you can’t help but feel proud to have ordered electric heaters for the barn and chicken coop before the cold set in. Proud to have helped Takakura to place the heavy things, the both of you standing back in mild apprehension as chickens clucked outside the door, counting down as you reached to flip the button to “ON”, ushering heat into the room and pushing out the chill. Those metal beasts hadn’t had any issues, but the space heater you’d secured for yourself had decided to be a little shit.
Stopping to breathe beside the Inn, you drag a hand over your face, recalling the first sharp “click” of the switch. Nothing. “Sometimes these things take a moment,” you threw towards Takakura before flipping the power switch back and forth multiple times, offering a musical prayer to whatever deity would pity your cold feet. You transformed the urge to kick the heater to a long sigh as you stood, watching Takakura rub his neck before leaving and returning with extra blankets from who-knows-where. For a while, fortified by thermal pajamas and wool socks, the blankets had proven themselves worthy against the cold. Until last night, when your chattering teeth woke you up before your alarm clock. The blizzard forecast on the TV scared you further and you went about your chores sluggishly wondering if it would be easier to bunk with your livestock for warmth or forsake your dignity and ask Takakura if he’d be interested in a sleepover. It took 10 minutes of warming yourself in the coop, surrounded by sleepy chickens, before your brain thawed enough to connect dots. Electric heater. Electric. E-LEC-TRIC. You soaked in a bit more warmth and hit the road as chickens clucked annoyedly at your back.
You’d never gotten used to the way the hair on the back of your neck pricks up as you approach the laboratory. Electricity buzzes through the air, arching off of the coils topping the resident mad scientist’s lair. You can’t tell if it’s nervousness or excitement that makes you brush off your clothes and run a tentative hand through your hair before knocking at the door. Heartbeats pass before you knock again, the cold placing more force behind your fist. A vaguely human noise sounds behind the door as something catches your eye. The first snow of the season has begun its descent, snowflakes dancing in the wind. Rubbing your arms, a large snowflake catches your attention. It’s not until you jump at the metallic bang of the door opening that you realize you’ve done a complete 180. Spinning around, you’re greeted by a familiar annoyed expression and bloodshot eyes. “What do you want? Your incessant noise almost ruined my experiment.” Steam flows from the cup in his hand, the smell of coffee pulling you towards him. “I, uh,” he’s begun to tap his foot, you clear your throat “my heater is broken. Can you help me?” The tapping stops, his eyes look past you, over your shoulder to the clouds in the distance. You rub your arms again, gripping your biceps to avoid snatching the warm mug from his hand. It’s a surprise when he unrolls his lab coat sleeves and closes the door behind him, finally meeting your eyes with his own.
It’s a brisk walk to the farm, Daryl’s coffee contrailing behind the two of you as clouds swirl overhead and snow begins to fall heavier. You would hesitate to pull open the door to your house if not for your excitement to escape the wind. You bounce on your heels as you shake off the snow from the trip, feeling like a stranger in your own home. You’re distantly thankful for your decision to bunk your dog with the livestock for the storm, knowing his disdain for the scientist who is now taking off his shoes in your entryway. The soles aren’t yet falling off this pair, although you know they’ve had some traffic since you gifted them to him in the summer. For his first time in your home, he seems more comfortable than you’d have guessed him to be as he throws his lab coat over a low table, places his mug carefully next to it, and immediately takes to looking at the heater positioned near your bed. Knowing better than to interfere with Daryl’s work, you let the sound of howling wind outside push you to the coffee maker.
You’re two scoops of grounds in before he’s dragging your beside table away from your bed, attempting to look behind it. A flash of something pink that’d been charging between the mattress and table sparks heat into your face. Your sudden plan to rush over and kick the hot pink vibrator under the bed, or maybe hide it under your pillow, is foiled as Daryl picks it up, the shock culminating in a mangled squeak in the back of your throat, drawing his attention from the object in his hand to you. Your mind races with questions. How is he just holding it? Why hasn’t he dropped it yet? Why is he holding it like he knows what to do with it? Finally, you choke out, “I’m so sorry.” Your embarrassment doesn’t stop you from wanting to slap him when he rolls his eyes and says, “You should be!” but your bafflement does as he drops the vibrator in favor of its charging cable, following it with his hands to the outlet behind the table. No fucking way. You move closer and watch as he tugs a black cable closer, dragging the heater across the floor before reaching back and plugging in the cord in one smooth motion. A whoosh of hot air joins the wind outside as heat kisses your calves. Bending to warm your hands, you hope the heat can be your alibi for a still-red face. “Honestly, I could’ve told you how to use an outlet plug at the lab.” You bring your warm hands to your cheeks as he moves to pick up his lab coat, moving towards the door. You stand and open your mouth to say something, anything, before being shocked by the speed in which he slides his feet into his shoes and forces your door open. He doesn’t make it past your threshold, his body tensing. Moving closer, you curse whatever deity pitied your cold feet as you look out at a blizzard quickly ramping up to full force.

Adachi: ... Oh! You two were - good timing, actually. Can you tell Nanako-chan that Dojima-san's gonna be home on time today?
Natsuki: Yeah, sure. You were... Adachi-keiji, right?
Goro: Are you sure you should be chatting with civilians on shift?
Adachi: I'm on my lunch break right now, so I'm good for another... ten minutes.
Chie: ... Hey, weird question, sir? Why do you think Takakura-senpai was targeted?
Adachi: Can't really talk about that kind of thing with high schoolers! Anyway, I should get going...
Natsuki: Huh. Didn't he usually...?
Goro: ... Hm. He looks like the type of man who runs his mouth, but I suppose he can follow procedure, at least.
Chie: Wait, why do you know the procedure? You're like. 12.
Goro: Thirteen. It's a hobby, you could say.

hello hello i just wanted to say i love your rock art and you're hilarious and i have a question.. apologies if you've explained this somewhere before but i'm curious if you believe rock was adopted (and along with that, what's going with the picture of the child who is not rock and does rock dye his hair, etc.) and what other rock headcanons you have that you haven't shared yet, if you're willing to share them. (also thank you for doing the 30 days of hm challenge--it's making me so happy to see your daily rock art)
woah i’m so happy you like my art!!! thank you so much for the ask <33 i’m having tons of fun doing these challenges too! thanks for making em!
ohhhh man the adoption theory… i’ve been trying to get to the bottom of this for so long, this answer might get pretty long sorry about that. i’m really glad you asked so i have an excuse to talk abt it :D
⚠️spoilers / taking clown man seriously warning⚠️
i’m thinking rock was first designed as a guest at the inn, but that late in development the connection between him and tei+lou was added
looking at the concept art for tei, his bio says 「元旅人だったせいか、ナミやロックのような人物を好んで泊めるようだ。」 which roughly translates “perhaps due to being a former traveler himself, he seems to enjoy hosting people like nami and rock” uh... hosting, huh? travelers, huh?
tbh rock’s original concept art/description feels to me like. he was meant to be the annoying trust fund kid prodigal son who is blowing his rich parents money to travel on the longest vacation in the world. and everyone responsible for creating this character hates him so so so much
so i think some of the Themes about rock were unintentional at least for the first game, but were rolled with for anwl with the total revision of his character + addition of his heart events and rival heart events. especially with his 2nd rival event with lumina, ESPECIALLY with the ingame rumor lumina isn’t actually related to romana
the photo was there from awl though… so maybe the idea was meant to be hinted at in awl
stuff that makes little sense to me if rock was their son—going from well-tread to lesser tread:
shares no physical features with them aside from having darker skin tone than most of the cast
rock even brings up the fact that he looks nothing like his parents just to get defensive and say it’s none of anyone’s business
does not speak like either of his parents. more apparent in jp. he sounds. “trendy” (he tries)
tei and lou didn’t design the inn with a room for a child… his ass is NOT supposed to be in that room!! it’s for van!!
rock remembers moving to the valley for the first time but there’s not even a hint he was part of their travels, even though tei/lou were traveling until reaching the valley (you’d think rock’d jump at the chance to brag about being well traveled)
the inn is older than the farm your dad and takakura started but rock says he never met your dad (lou and even lumina did meet him)
we can now actually look at all the photos in the inn of tei and lou and their travels, none of them have rock in them.
which brings me to the infamous photo…
Tumblr media
other than the fact it isn’t rock, we don’t know anything for sure. both the original and remake have scenes where tei talks about this picture (strange hoe / blessed milker) but he never acknowledges the kid in the photo at all, just talks about the country they visited. it’s bizarre.
the jp flavor text when examining the picture says 「夫婦ふたりの間にうつっている小さな男の子はロックではないようです…」— “It seems that the little boy between the couple is not Rock…”.
there’s a ton of room for guessing, but personally i hc they lost a child. based on what i can see of the picture, the kid has the same hair color and skin color as tei and lou, and a similar build to them…
taking into account that rock dyes his hair, rock’s / his kids’ natural hair color is actually the same exact hex color code as cecilia’s…
if the fact that he dyes his hair is meant to say he’s their son, his natural hair would be black, yeah? but instead it’s cecilia brown
rock’s son also is described oddly specifically as “looking exactly like a small Rock”. you know who doesn’t look like rock’s kid? the kid in the photo :(
funny enough even in anwl it never occurred to me that rock was a natural blond. his eyebrows are dark and … damn those roots. i guess i just assumed he was dyeing his friggin toddlers hair
i also hc they’ve known rock longer than he’s been part of their household, and that he’s either the child of a friend they traveled with in the past or a kid they met in the “country far to the south” they traveled to a long time ago. he reminded them of their lost kid in some way
phew i hope that wasn’t too long… i’ll end on some
lighthearted rock hcs :D
i don’t want to overwhelm anyone so this isn’t all of them… haha…(makes the most overwhelming post ever as a devious little trick)
Tumblr media
thank you 4 reading this far :3 please take my OH DEAR GOD WHY WOULD YOU DO THIS WHY WOULD YOU MAKE ROCK REAL wip as a little treat
since he says he’s an “earring and tattoo” kind of guy in anwl. he has a shitty misspelled hidden tattoo that says something like “never don’t give up”
the answer to rock’s question about why there’s no record player at the inn is because he literally yeeted records like frisbees as a kid
Tumblr media
similar explanation as to why the guest beds are blocking both balcony doors. they literally had to rockproof the inn
moved out to live independently as soon as possible without any planning, proceeded to get fired and banned from every workplace in the world (failed salaryman)
surprisingly good vocabulary, piss on the poor reading comprehension though
his stash is in the statue in front of his southern window
