you know there are a lot of ship names I dislike the sound of for ships that I love but Swarkles is adorable for 2 reasons 1. it has a nice ring to it. 2. I just love that it’s based on silly character anecdotes.
Barney having the name “Swarkley” written on his coffee & the discovery of pop sensation Robin “Sparkles” actually happened so close together & both things were embarrassing but funny. And Robin’s history as a teen star specifically was something she wanted to put behind her but Barney was able to make her laugh about it.

thinking about how how your mother met me is all about tracy living with her grief over her boyfriend’s death and how she learned how to love again and that the whole series’ meta is about ted living with his grief over his wife’s death replaying those years where she was still alive even though they hadn’t met yet and him learning how to move on and love again in the finale
#himym#is about how you can find love over and over again and love isn’t a person it’s a feeling#it’s something tracy learnt over the course of. well. season nine let’s be real. and it’s something we see her trying to lead ted to in#the future scenes bc she loves him and wants to prepare him for that grief bc she went through it before#or maybe this is a very isolated and biased viewpoint based on the fact i haven’t seen himym since 2015ish#and i just re-watched the wedding bride and vesuvius back to back bc lol jed mosley ted deserves it but he doesn’t#and like in the wedding bride we see how ted is struggling after bejng left at the alter and how he decides to move on and love again#(and then he’s a dick to the girl he’s dating in the ending scene because ted’s a douche)#(no wait actually i’m not done yet ted reveals to the girl he’s jed mosely in a big dramatic public declaration of Like (which ngl is a dic#k move bc it puts a lot of pressure on the recipient and is interrupting everybody else’s movie experience) (big moves are unfortunately te#d’s mo and ngl it irks me a lot like okay change of subject don’t get me wrong tony was wrong to make the movie#but from stella’s perspective jed mosely might not be too off the mark??? a lot of it is twisted yes. but like ted was very uhhhhh pushy ab#out their relationship and it’s cute and all but was it really what stella wanted or was it what ted wanted and stella found him charming e#nough to go along with it#anyway i’m off topic what was i on about? Right ted screwed over the girl he was dating#he says he’s the antagonist of her favourite movie and she does some mature rational thinking and comes to the conclusion the movie’s proba#bly inaccurate and offers to help him through his trauma at being left at the alter which is incredibly cool of her#only for ted to balk at the fact she too has been left at the alter??????#and that she has gambling issues which is like yeah a bit of a problem but not enough to kick them out of your apartment like fuck ted fr#jed mosely is accurate it’s all of the worst of ted and none of the good i’m way off topic this was a positive post#right yeah so i jump from that episode to vesuvius bc that’s where wedding bride 2 is#and the whole episode is bookended by tracy and ted telling this story to each other because they know it off by heart and ngl i would have#killed to have tracy’s pre-ted years span a whole season#and how at the end they get all emotional because tracy’s ill and they know it and she holds his hand and begs him not to live in his stori#es and idk just. the entire show is ted living in his stories it’s him replaying his entire life out#dragging out the moments where tracy is still alive even if those moments were him offering to make a girl pancakes while barney shouts#fuck him fuck him until he gets escorted out by security#even if those moments are him sleeping with somebody else or being a total jerk because while he’s recalling those moments somewhere in thi#s nostalgic memory of 2000s nyc tracy is hanging out with her own friends and doing her own things with her yellow umbrella#and then in the last episode his kids who were written and recorded in season one are like ‘dude mum doesn’t matter this story is about how

4.) which television series do you use as a form of escapism?
How I Met Your Mother! Me and my best friend are huuuge fans of it - we constantly make references to the show, it's super annoying to anyone not into it haha. I'm not usually into sitcoms, but HIMYM means so so much to me. I re-watch the whole show at least once or twice a year. So many times I find myself going through situations in life that the characters are in, and it's really comforting. (my other two shows are New Girl and Community. I love love love them.)
10.) what’s one book you’d suggest every person should read?
Ooooh, this is a hard one. That everyone should read?? I'm going to be really basic here and say Chronicles of Narnia - it was the collection that made me fall in love with reading. It's so easy to read, and yet so very rich! No matter the age, it fills you with a sense of wonder and magic that is not quite like any other. If I had to choose one more, I'd go with What Matter Most Is How Well You Walk Through The Fire by Charles Bukowski. He's my favourite poet and I've read this book many times than you'd think possible. There is so much in there about the human condition, about loneliness, about real unfiltered life.
42.) what’s your favorite item you’ve purchased secondhand?
Probably my slr camera! It's an Olympus OM-10, I think it was popular in the 70s? When I told my dad, he said he had the same camera when he was young, which idk, it was a nice moment of connection? Does this make sense? It was my very first film camera (and my favourite), and I got it off ebay for quite cheap, complete with the original lenses and all. I had to refurbish it a little and replace the light seals, but otherwise it came in amazing condition. I'm super passionate about film photography, and I'm super sad I stopped doing it for a while. I need to pick it up again asap.

Yeah, that was a pretty good read and it speaks to a lot of my own feelings in regards to the issues of season 3, but I will say I don't know if they were trying to make this point, but they seem to think the writing issues only began in season 3
And while I think season 3 is by far the worst of the whole TL run, the cracks in the writing were there in season two with Nate's arc in particular, I've spoken a lot in the past about how I would have done things for Nate in season2 differently so I won't go into it here
Ultimately, I'm just really sad that the show ended this way. Like it really had one of the best first season debuts I've seen in a longass time, like the quality of this show's first season was up there with the debut of Abbott Elementary, but now the show's writing quality is literally as bad as Community season 4
Like I would not be surprised if Ted Lasso season 3 goes down in the anals of TV history with the likes of Community season 4, Siren season 3, Game of Thrones season 8, and the HIMYM finale. There's no way fandom and the more niche TV watching communities are gonna let this season go without its lashings even if the general audiences didn't seem to notice the dip in quality.
I hope one day I can go back to season 1 and just live in that world once again, because that season really had me so hopeful for what the rest of the show would become. I've said it multiple times, but season 1 was so good I had it on repeat for like a whole two months, I'd finish the last episode and immediately start the first one over again. I won't be doing that with season 2 or 3 I can tell you that much.
The story of Ted Lasso surely is a trajedy, a trainwreck of missed potential and broken hearts that in the end proved itself for what it always was, white neoliberal feel-good politics that ignore any semblance of systemic injustices to push a message of forgiveness and compassion even when someone spits in your eye
Goodbye Ted Lasso, I loved you, if only your writing team did too

sex education season 4 spoilers
i might have to re-watch from season 1 to be reminded of maeve's character. i'm super sad rn that otis and maeve did not end up together after d slow burn of 4 seasons. but hasn't she always been career and money driven cos of her traumatic upbringing? being in a relationship at all with jackson, isaac and otis weren't planned by her. she wanted a better life so it makes sense for her to move to another country and try her luck there. so if this has always been her character, i should not be surprised that otis and maeve did not end up together. it's just that i'm a sucker for a slow burn so i got distracted. plus their chemistry was cute.
jean and jakob tho. they could have sorted out their issues. idk if d actor was unavailable or d writers wanted a different direction.
on a personal note, i relate to maeve so much but still not exactly d specifics of her life. if i have d opportunity, i would also pack up and leave. so yeah i get it.
but just like HIMYM, it's probably hard to re-watch sex education now knowing d arcs from season 1 to 4 and how some of d characters we like are gone. season 4 felt like a different show. too much drama and idk d music is not that captivating, idk. i'm a sucker for drama but just d right amount.

I'm currently re-watching friends and honestly surprised by how progressive it was, especially for the 90s; Carol & Susan's storylines which support both adoption and gay marriage (and while Ross feeling "emasculated" is often a source of humor, other characters frequently mock his discomfort rather than them), multiple episodes focusing on women's sexual pleasure, unconventional pregnancies etc. it's obviously outdated and very white, but it seems unfair to compare it to blatantly misogynistic sitcoms like himym or tbbt.
#it does feel more misogynistic and homophobic in the last two seasons though#and i remember reading that there was a conservative wave post 9/11 which affected a lot of queer people#and generally i always find mid-2000s shows to be a lot more conservative than those of the 90s#so i wonder if that had any impact on friends as well#friends

i remember candy saying that whenever there’s outrage over a series finale it’s because fandom misidentified the tobin. so in the case of himym she said that the audience thought the tobins were robin/barney and ted/tracy, while the actual Tobin was Ted/robin. But honestly even if you accept her analysis that that is why people hated the himym ending, that doesn’t mean that applies to every show? Like there are plenty of series finale’s that receive outrage for something other than shipping reasons.
Lol right? She certainly never watched Lost (thank god) lmao
But I agree with her reading of the outrage re: himym. I'm not sure I'd call them the "tobins" like she did, it was just the endgames (and yes I know in people's minds they're the same thing but anyway, that's for another discussion).
I have to say though, in my opinion, making ted and robin the endgame instead of barney & robin and ted & tracy was a lot more subversive (?) and interesting to me. Going with those ships was the safe and predictable route.

Finished HIMYM with my boyfriend, finally.
We finally finished watching a TV series together. Its title is How I Met Your Mother. As a FRIENDS fan, I will be honest, it did take some convincing and three times of re-watching the first episode to continue to the next and proceed with the story line. Personally, given my friends’ perspectives before, I did hesitate.
Thoughts on the Show
But now that I have finished and I have witnessed how bad the ending was, according to its fans… It was all worth it especially reaching the latter seasons starting from the fifth. I think my most favorite would either be fifth, sixth or eighth. As for the ninth, it is what is most crucial but also I felt like things could have been quicker?
Over-all, I could definitely say that in terms of the plot and narration, it wins over FRIENDS (as an avid fan, this is my opinion)
More importantly, I am more amazed with the interesting, thought-provoking issues and scenes in the show from the matter of having kids or not to critical relationship concerns. I am not sure whether this is biased but watching with my boyfriend, it does share a glimpse for our relationship regarding what to expect and how can we react towards it. Definitely, I love this part.
Favorite Character
A bit unnecessary but my favorite character from the show, I think, would be Marshall. I thought I would change my mind seeing how he has evolved from being a hopeful environmental lawyer to a corporate slave then back to the former plus some unwise actions with regards to his love for Lily. Nonetheless, as someone who is both will not go with the usual and very critical — I can definitely highly likely to relate with him and admire him as an individual and part of the group.

a new week
my morning class was canceled so I'm drinking a ridiculous amount of coffee and feeling like I'm not where I'm supposed to be even though I literally do not have class until 11:15.
I rly hope this week feels less suffocating than last week. I'm going to try to think of the happy things and manifest them into existence. also going to bring my camera to school every day this week and try to shoot two rolls of film in the next two weeks.
I am v grateful for my animals today. well, I am grateful for them every day. but I woke up today to the tiny snores of three little angels and that just made my life. thank u for existing, Emma, Elliot, and Lav.
I'm about to finish HIMYM which means I need to re-watch either Gilmore Girls, SVU, or Grey's. or I can start a true-crime binge to honor the season of spookiness.
I have an exam on Wednesday and I rly hope I do well. hopefully the focalin funk chills out a bit so my brain can absorb all the facts very soon.
