Fanfic Asks for the New Year!

(1.) Do you have a word-count goal for the upcoming year?

Absolutely not lol, I mean it’d be nice to get back into writing and finishing a long form original novel piece at some point (brain stalled with SbS but I guess technically with 60k words done it could count as one novel out of three maaaybe) and I’d ideally like to cultivate a consistent writing habit that’s daily or weekly but I am not good at discipline or habits

And also I’m not feeling long form multichaptered pieces right now, but I want to feel it again and I am afraid the only way to feel it is to force it and I am lazy right now after graduating for the second time in my life

(3.) Do you anticipate writing for a new fandom this year? Which one?

Not really because in relative terms I’ve only recently started really writing for the 26 Eight-Year-Olds Napoleon’s Marshalate fandom, (very proud of my last fic which is Peak Cad Weird Poetic Rambling) because only small obscure fandoms tickle my brain and long dead French generals have hijacked my brain with all their drama, tragedy and comedy. Why did nobody tell me before now that dead Frenchmen were so entertaining and catty bitches to each other

(13.) Aside from fanfic, are there any other fan works you’d like to try creating? Fanart, or fanvids, gifsets, or podfic?

Having made the ambitious shitpost of the tag yourself with 26 drawings of dead Frenchmen - because I thought it would be funnier with my shitty drawings

I do generate a bunch of fun surreal weird AI stuff with the dead Frenchmen as inspiration as well, I don’t really post them out of anxiety, but they’re meaningful to me personally and I enjoy the process of creating these works as much as I enjoy writing and drawing - and it is an extended process because I want very specific things dammit, oh man I need to jump back into photoshop to edit and implement ideas before I lose access to it forever

Oh yeah! The other big fannish thing I do! Painting tiny men! I am going to order more tiny men and paint them oh man I want to order this and recreate this painting but tiny and on my desk and maybe on my cat

Probably the big reason I’ve been writing a tiny bit more is because I’m away from home temporarily and thus away from my paints and tiny men and I can’t just default to painting tiny men all the time and honestly painting tiny men has taken over my life a bit I love them so much and I want to get someone I know to take Good Quality Photos of them

my fave edits of 2022

just like last year, i want to pat my silly brain for making stuff on the puter, so here's my top 10 for the edits i posted on this little blog in 2022 with a before/after editing for some stuff:

10. the Rapp Scallion gifset - because it was fun to make and the animation is just that good (and thank you Sae to make me gif good old point'n'click games 💟)

09. the first gifset I made for Syberia in better quality and also realising I got better at coloring (I love this game with my entire being but it is horrible to color)

08. the Razputin Aquato dancing gifset (my baby son) because it loops perfectly and you'll see that i like the color purple

07. the Syberia: The World Before gifset I made to practise blending, I still have progress to make but I couldn't say no to some angst

06. the Delphene CC menu gifset in one the most recent patch for BG3 because i do love her so much and the coloring is nice here

05. the Pernille gifset in her bikini because you have no idea the time i spent to make her wink while doing her little pose and managing so many thing at the same time... also she's hot af

04. the video i made for Sae's birthday, because i invested a lot of time to edit this (even the audio). Sae liking it is the best reward ever

03. the silly Kate Walker fancam i made for comfort, i go back regularly to it fsfdff listen i love her and this does comfort me when i'm sad

02. the Kaamelott knights as raccoon memes gifset, truly one of my greatest work ever. this tells you anything you need to know about the knights of the round table + king loth

01. the Flower District of Vaghen gifset from Syberia: The World Before... what can i say, Vaghen is such a pretty place

Hi! Secret Santa again! I can only imagine how hard ur speed paints are to make gifs with how much you have to shrink them for tumblrs terrible limits and even remembering to record the timelapse, I always say I’m going to record myself making things so people can see the process, but I never think about it until I’m at least halfway done lol.

Oml the all in Lino in the cop/detective look is SO amazing, he really seems to be able to pull off any concept and not make them seem over the top or silly. When he’s in all pastels and wearing a beret it doesn’t feel like someone forced him into a “cute” outfit, and when he’s doing the almost costume outfits like cops, or vampires they also just seem to suit him completely. He’s really one of those people that because he is so confident in himself nothing feels silly or out of place.

Thunderous has definitely been my favorite era for Minho specifically. I think the modernized more traditional outfits really work well with him, and having changbin shout his name before his part every stage felt really special. Over all I think thunderous, backdoor, and maniac have been my favorite eras. I feel like ever since gods menu that the boys have become a lot more confident and their stage presence and just how they act on skz talkers and things has felt more comfortable. Those concepts also just have felt like they really suited all of the members to me, plus im just a big fan of their more “noise” title tracks they seem to have more fun when performing really signature sounding skz songs. But I also don’t think there’s an era I haven’t really enjoyed, like some part of every comeback has at least been something I’ve really enjoyed. Especially when like with thunderous they promote a b-side that is so different from the title track, I feel like it really shows their colors well.

I also see that you’re into a few other groups other than nct like tbz and ateez! I love both of them so much, it made watching kingdom extra fun, getting to see how they both interacted with skz, and seeing that they were all friends! I know I got into tbz right after they debuted but it took me a few months to really come around to liking ateez (though now I don’t know whyyyy lmao) how did u get into them and nct?

I've been super multi these days! every time i get into a new group that was in kingdom or road to kingdom i go back and rewatch their clips and interactions hehe. I got into nct first thru superm (which I got into bc of baekhyun), and i think i kinda realized that it's really fun to stan a LOT of people, so i began getting into other groups like skz. i found atz bc of mutuals on my dash during kingdom but got into them more only recently after seeing them at kcon in august and then on tour in november!! so kinda like u, it took a bit to really get into them properly^^; and for tbz i was convinced by @chanstopher and @lonelystreetlight aka two partners in crime to check them out earlier this year, so i started from their predebut show boyz flower snack and then rewatched all their rtk and kingdom stages and then the rest was history LOL

sometimes i feel bad that since i follow so many groups that i don't follow skz's content as closely anymore as i used to. but on the flipside, i like how content creators on here make it easier for me to see all the best parts of their stuff, whether it's gifsets of stages or funny moments in skz code or just good looks in skz talker <3 also being multi means it's extra fun when the kidz have fun interactions with their besties in other groups like the darlingz friend group skz changbin + atz wooyoung + txt yeonjun + tbz haknyeon + crvt serim + gncd tag etc etc (the fact that i stan all these groups 💀) or also chan is just friends with everyone in the industry haha (i love his interactions w ab6ix during isac this year 🥺)

End of the Year Review!

I was tagged by @maelerie a little while ago and finally sat down and Wrote It...

1. What fandoms did you create for?

Still stuck in helltalia but I’ve been regaining a bit of enthusiasm I though I’d lost thanks to find some wonderful people to talk with!!

2. How many works did you make this year? Fics (posted on ao3 or tumblr or wherever), edits, gifsets, moodboards, playlists, fanart, vids, meta?

Technically I’ve published 7 fics which sounds like a huge downgrade from 2020’s 16, but to be fair, one of those 7 fics is a hefty multichapter, so if I cheat and say each chapter counts separately, then we’re right there at 15 xD

Also the reason I say published is bc I’ve got an uncountable amount of unfinished drafts, random drabbles, random bits of whatever, so counting how many works I made this year is…. Nope, not happening

3. What are you most proud of?

Uhhh I guess I’m most proud of Only a Month or So as it is my long-awaited return to writing a multichapter fanfic as I go (and not posting it after I’ve finished it first). I really love what it’s got going for it and is really this excuse to have a silly distraction from the hell that was this year!! It’s very self-indulgent, but honestly so is all my content, but I’m glad that people have been enjoying it with me!!

Two other fics I really loved to write this year Quite Foolish and First Time. They were my indulgences into nationverse and ended up being very exploratory on the way I portray Romano in that setting with lots of headcanons squeezed in. I’m also really proud of both’s writing style since I do feel like I’ve emulated a nice middle ground between a more modern style and a Victorianesque style. I think they’re some of my best writing work up to date

4. Any stats you wanna tell us about?

Well I suppose I published a little over 80k in words this year which is pretty neat I think, especially bc I felt insanely unproductive and bleh, but I’m still hanging in there!

5. What inspired you this year? Any specific works or creators?

UH tbh I was extremely uninspired this year like the pandemic has been terrible to my mental health, motivation and inspiration and I’m honestly happy to have been able to create things at all

However, there have been some wonderfully kind and amazing people I’ve gotten to know a lot better over the year (or grew closer to very recently) who have been so supportive and encouraging that I probably wouldn’t have posted half the things I did without them, so thank you for being so very lovely. Most of them aren’t even on Tumblr (heck I’m barely on Tumblr) but a special shout out to @maelarie for indulging me in my rambles and being overall just a sweet and fun person!!

6. What’s a piece you didn’t expect to make? Why?

PFFFF I suppose Rainy Day was the biggest surprise to me?? Cause I haven’t touched usu/k in years, but I’ve always enjoyed the pairing in a cardverse setting so to finally write smth for that was fun

But to be fair most of my fics are surprises to me, though prumano might be a constant, the setting/plot always changes

7. What are you excited to work on next year?

I honestly have no clue xD I mean I have OaMoS to continue and then everything else is as unknown to me as it is to you. I do have one fic waiting for Pru’s birthday on the 18th which is about him and my Brandenburg OC (official debut, finally) and Pru’s elevation to a kingdom. I might also finally finish the sequel to Distraction and go through my older notebooks to find some more started but never finished fics I still enjoy and would like to finish

okay i'm already procrastinating and i don't plan on sleeping any time soon so here we go.

☆ ✩ my personal ranking for every season 1 Sanders Sides episode. ✩ ☆

i think it's going to be pretty similar to @dukeofonions' but let's see if i find something new to contribute haha. i see you didn't include that one about Patton in the Big Game or whatever, so i'm not including it either xd. also i think i'm going to count Accepting Anxiety as one episode only.

edit: i finished and now i dare you to drink a shot of water every time i say the word spanish or a version of the word comfort and become very well hydrated.

#16 I'm in a Disney Show

(i agree with dukeofonions here) i always forget this episode exists. it was ok in terms of being happy for real life Thomas but as a Sanders Sides episode it didn't do anything. the sides were just giving their opinions but it wasn't very funny or interesting. also i'm bitter because it made me look up the episode he was in and i didn't like it at all. i don't know if i'm too old for those Disney shows now but Thomas was literally the only good part of it, everything else was really dull and boring imo. a waste of time.

however, Logan supporting clickbait is one of the funniest things ever, and i'll never forget it.

#15 Becoming A Cartoon

i didn't hate this episode but it was just .. meh.. you know? several factors contribute to this. one, i couldn't feel much nostalgia for Butch Hartman's shows because i watched them in Spanish, and everything feels really weird when they speak English, i don't like how my old cartoons sound in English. two, it was disappointing to me because we were all desperately waiting for Plot™ and instead they give us this short episode about nothing (oh how the tables have turned now it's the other way around haha). and three, i didn't like the style of the animation :/ their faces and expressions freaked me out, Roman's douchey face still haunts me.

#14 Way Too Adult

here i'm biased because i don't like Patton much, and i didn't back when i watched the series the first time either, so this video was a little disappointingwithout the rest. also it wasn't relatable to me because i am still too young and dependent on my parents haha. but Patton is funny and it's funny to laugh at Thomas' struggling.

#13 The Dark Side of Disney

i've never been a fan of Disney movies. i actually never watched Mulan or the Lion King or Aladdin as a kid, so meh. i liked the ending, though, it was cool to see Virgil have fun and be right for once. it does make me a bit uncomfortable because the way Thomas tries too hard with Virgil's mouth movements and his low voice reminds me of a guy that had made me v uncomfortable not long before watching that video. so an icky feel overall.

#12 A New Year of Lying to Myself

this video was actually kind of fogettable to me. i had a hard time connecting the voices in the song to the characters and idk. i don't love it nor hate it, just .. neutral.

#11 My True Identity

pretty much the same opinion as dukeofonions, again. it's a good introduction and it's good that it was the beginning of it all but on its own it's not very special. i think it's awesome on Thomas to have come up with such a clever idea, like choosing the dad, the teacher and the prince and putting them together and match them with thoughts?? that fit so perfectly?? it really is just very impressive when you think about it, that it was just a random idea he had for a short 5 minute video.

#10 Taking on Anxiety

i liked this video a lot because when i watched it i had recently been a lot on tumblr, and found out through relatable posts that i had anxiety. so watching this video was really fun and it made me happy to feel so seen, specially the intro when Thomas just talks about what it's like to have Anxiety and Virgil is so smug about it.

okay now that those are out of the way things are going to get hard... all the following i love with all my heart so i'm going to rank them based on the smallest things.

#9 Growing Up

once more, Patton isn't my favorite. so that's why i'm putting this here, plus the echo at the end askjhsahg, but i love love this video. i remember we were waiting and oh so ready for the angst of nobody taking Patton seriously. and we received!! i love that though Roman and Logan are antagonists here, they're both so happy about Thomas wanting to have a healthy life. and i just adore the way Logan admits his mistake at the end and asks Patton directly. my heart... also aw.. the nostalgia. i remember none of us knew how to spell Patton's name and were writing it in very funny ways until Thomas and Joan told us lol.

#8 The Mind vs The Heart

when i watched this video the first times i didn't like it much, because i only had eyes for Virgil, but later i came back to it and loved it. so taking that into account i'm putting it here. logicality was the first ship i ever shipped in the show because i saw a gifset on tumblr of Patton screaming "what do you know about love?!" and Logan "apparently more than YOU" and the caption said "MARRIED", and i thought hey yeah... anyway. i love them. they're both my dads since that day.

this video is so so so relatable and i love it. Logan and Patton are so much fun arguing and i love how they compromise at the end and work together. im reconsidering.. i might move it higher? no, fine i'll leave it here.

#7 Making Some Changes

this video was absolutely hilarious. i personally couldn't see it as the Sides still once they were acted by Thomas' friends, i enjoyed it more as that bunch being silly and trying to be the sides but failing in so many ways, while sometimes nailing stuff suddenly. i really don't take this one too seriously as an episode. except Joan!Logan and Valerie!Logan, my beloved... i love how Joan acted as Logan and their voice and that they kept their ace ring on.. there's a reason i had them as my icon for so long. and Valerie looks a bit (a lot) like me with the glasses and dressed in dark colors, plus she spoke Spanish and there's .. no words to describe the joy i felt when seeing/hearing that. wait i'm getting emotional...

#6 My Personality Q&A

when i watched this Virgil was my favorite side and i didn't care much about the rest lol. when i heard his answers i related to him SO much it was scary, and also his voice is so soft and it was all very comforting. it was also when i first starting looking at Logan with more attention, because when he brought up Big Hero 6 and Fall Out Boy and said he didn't sing and would recite it like a poem? it only took a couple seconds but my brain said "me" and never went back.

now this video is a little underwhelming to watch for me, most of the appeal for me was in finding out the answers, and also watching it when we didn't know a lot about the sides. now we know more and want to know more so it's not as fun to me as it was first.

i wish so bad they'd do another one, although i know it would be more difficult with a much bigger audience, i think they can manage and i just need it. the chaos.. the energy.. they all being so savage with each other, learning little random facts about them you didn't expect.. i need it.

#5 Alone on Valentines Day

i love Valerie, and the idea of this video was perfect and so perfectly excecuted. every side just giving their crazy opinions on how to woo a random stranger, i laughed SO much. first with Logan speaking simlish out of nowhere? at that point i didn't know practically anything about the sims except that it was some video game and the whiplash of Logan going AYO and the rest killed me. then when Roman whipped out that dialogue in Spanish??? my life was completed. i've never felt more happy than i did in that moment gosh. just the hilarity of Roman's drama, the shock of them speaking Spanish suddenly like that, the absolute JOY of seeing a creator i like speak (may i say) perfect Spanish, the other characters' faces after that.. never been happier.

also the conclusion was so cute. Virgil solving the whole problem without wanting to. i loved it.

#4 Am I Original

i think this video speaks for itself. it was fun to watch them all do the ideas Roman had, plus Logan and Virgil nodding at each other, (i love them so much), plus the angst at the end of Roman's perfectionism, plus Roman's just perfect name. this video has it all.

i think Thomas posted it kind of late at night and i watched it at 7am in the classroom as i waited for my classmates to arrive and the class to start. (i usually was like 40 minutes early to school due to mom’s work). i had to contain my laughter and it wasn’t easy.

#3 Losing My Motivation

i started loving this video after a while, when Logan passed Virgil in the position for my favorite side. but once he did this episode was beautiful. it's so funny and i love Logan and Patton's dynamic so much. and the video also so damn relatable in general. i felt so seen with it because they named all the problems i have when procrastinating, down to Patton's vague explanation of his feelings, it's exactly how i feel every time i want to do stuff. and the plot twist! i can hear the dramatic sound effect and see how they all turn to Logan clearly in my head, and it always makes me smile. plus there's so much Logan angst that can be dug up and overanalized. i love to watch it over and over.

#2 Accepting Anxiety

this video was perfect. everything we wanted. we knew it was coming and it delivered perfectly, better than any fanfic done in the waiting time. the week between the parts was agonizing but in a fun way somehow. i remember precisely when i was watching part 2 in my living room. i screamed. and i cried, a lot. i was feeling terrible at that time in my life and Thomas was such a comforting presence and i can't begin to describe how this episode made me feel.

and later it is always fun to rewatch with all their different reactions to being in Virgil's room, the energy of that was on point. Thomas is such a great actor and the characters where just amazingly performed. plus it gave so much to talk adn think about, the idea of the rooms, lots lots of insight into the characters, foreshadowing, so much. it's just perfect i have nothing else to say.

#1 (for purely emotional reasons, ironically) My Negative Thinking

i think Accepting Anxiety is the best episode of the season objectively but my favorite is My Negative Thinking. because i love Virgil and Logan so much and seeing them argue together was and is great. the comfort.. i can't repeat that word enough throughout this post. it's such a soft video while not being overwhelming with Patton and Roman's outbursts. just quiet (mostly) and clear and with perfectly timed humour.

Logan my beloved.. learning spanish... helping me with my own anxiety.. and their debate was so good. and the fact that they were friends i- i can't. Virgil didn't think Logan liked him and Logan told him explicitly that he did and the casual softness of it i cant even. Logan is happy that he tried.. it's just marvelous. Virgil and Logan as best friends will always be my favorite pair, and their dynamic will always be what i strive for in any relationship i might form, with both sides silently comforting each other within their own limits and realistic perspectives. so nice.

→ first creation and most recent creation of 2020: first creation of this year was actually skirt chasers - drabble i on april 23rd (yes april, she was a late bloomer -_-) after not writing for 6 months so it was very special to me ! the most recent creation was commercial break ; EIGHT on dec 29 where i rlly got to flex my ability to make up stories as i go 🤩

→ one of your favorite creations from 2020: of course i have to say netflix & chill that's my baby!!! i had a real fun time writing the original, and i don't think i could have imagined how popular it would become 🥺 also the series has allowed me to try writing so much freaks shit that EYE aint even know i was into good grief.....

→ a creation you’re really proud of: some way some how !! i wrote that entire fic in less than two days, shit was coming straight off the domeeeeee and also i feel like my storytelling in that fic was one of the best i’ve ever done !!

→ a new style you tried this year and a gifset/fic that uses it: since all of my fics revolve around pretty silly plot lines, i tried to do a more serious story with BORN SINNER; it has a couple deeper topics that i’ve never tried before, so i’m excited to see how that turns out!!

→ a creation that took you forever: explorer -_- that shit took me two whole months to write !!! i was so unsatisfied with the story and kept rewriting it until the very end of september. in the end, i can say I'm really happy with how the story turned out and the world building i somehow managed to do... also i love me some alien kook <3

→ your creation from 2020 that received the most notes: again, netflix & chill for the win lol. this baby has amassed 2.4k notes since it was posted in june, am i proud yes, am i shocked, also yes

→ a new fandom you joined and a creation you made for it: errrr i didn't join any new fandoms that i could've made content for 🥴

→ a creation you made that breaks your heart: honestly, the scene in disney+ & bust that’s part of my n&c series :// to this day i still read it n im like wtf am i okay?? girl???

→ a ‘simple’ creation that you really love: the zoom call series i’ve only just started 😳 the concept is so simple and plain, and too... “normal” compared to my usual fics, but for some reason i really adore it and i’m excited to see how it turns out in the future !!!

→ a creation that was inspired by another one: mmm, i started a series in july that i promptly put on hiatus bc its hard called acatalepsy that is based off/follows a similar theme to the movie bird box !!

→ a favorite creation by someone else: i really really enjoyed angels & airwaves by miss @yeojaa the story just makes my heart flutter 💓💗 i don’t mind by @bratkook bc imo it is the best rockstar jk au out there!!! i will die on that hill don't test me. and the weeb koo series by miss @himbojk nominated for best emotional rollercoaster of the year !!! i adore these 3 stories and these 3 writers 😡🖤

February 6, 2021: Romeo + Juliet (Review)

This movie is, in two words, a LOT.

Now, it’s not exactly a bad thing to be a lot, but that still means that it’s a lot. Of course, that’s to be expected of a Baz Luhrmann film, so I really shouldn’t be complaining. Before I get into my breakdown, though, I should probably consider what I think of Romeo and Juliet as a play, as well as other adaptations. Well, other adaptation.

Fact of the matter is, Romeo and Juliet definitely isn’t my favorite of the Bard’s plays. Maybe it’s because of overexposure, maybe it’s because of the romance...and maybe it’s just because I find the teenage love story and the protagonists overly melodramatic and not terribly convincing.

And, yeah, that really isn’t a good argument, and this play is an undisputed classic, of course. I mean, one of my favorite Shakespeare plays has a vengeful magician in command of a fairy servant and a mutant monster-man. Another one of his plays has a man bake his enemy’s children in a pie, for god-sakes. So, yeah, the “convincing” point isn’t fair. But, yeah, this has never been one of my favorites. However, I LOVE Franco Zeffirelli’s adaptation, which is legitimately fantastic. And, yes, I like it more than Luhrmann’s version. Is it my favorite adaptation of a Shakespeare play with the original play’s dialogue used? Well...

Goddamn it, Tumblr, you dropped the ball on this one! WHERE THE HELL ARE THE IAN MCKELLEN RICHARD III 1995 GIFs?!? Am I gonna have to make a GIFset myself? ‘Cause I’ll do it!

Anyway, let’s get into reviewing this mess, shall we?

Review

Cast and Acting: 7/10

Fin fact, that I already mentioned in the review: Leonardo DiCaprio and Claire Danes HAAAAAAAATED each other while filming this movie. And I’m gonna be honest...I’m not surprised. I’m not saying that their chemistry was bad, but I AM saying that it wasn’t as good as it should be. That might be because of their feelings towards one another...or it might be the fact that they aren’t great here. In the case of DiCaprio, he was good, even if he was a little clumsy with some of the lines of the play. And, to be fair, some of it can be blamed on Luhrmann’s direction. Danes...Danes isn’t great as Juliet, sorry. Compare her to Olivia Hussey and she’s WAY worse in the role. Not trying to be too harsh, but they aren’t great. They aren’t exactly bad, but making this lines work takes a real comprehensive knowledge of how to speak and read Shakespeare. DiCaprio sometimes shows that...Danes shows that skill far less.

Everybody else, though? I mean, Harold Perrineau is GREAT, as is Postlethwaite, Margoyles, Sorvino, Curtis-Hall, and even Mihok sometimes. John Leguizamo...let’s just say that, the entire film, ALL I could hear was Sid the Sloth threatening to destroy the Montagues.

Plot and Writing: 9/10

I mean...it’s Shakespeare. Might not be my favorite of his play’s but it’s still a timeless masterpiece. Not that all of his plays are amazing (coughcoughThe Taming of the Shrewcoughcough), but this one is perhaps the most timeless of all of them, with Hamlet as a possible rival. And since this is a direct-word adaptation, I’ll have to judge something else: the screenplay. That is, HOW the text is interpreted on-screen. And, uh...guns are called swords, and have swords on them, which is silly. And that’s the only real flaw I’ve got. Craig Pearce and Baz Luhrmann had the unique challenge of making a direct-word adaptation that could be accessible to the viewing audience, most of whom aren’t Shakespeare scholars. And in that purpose...yeah, it totally works. Credit where credit’s due.

Directing and Cinematography: 7/10

Cinematography throughout this movie is pretty goddamn great, not gonna lie. Now, there are many reasons for this, but at the end of the day, this film organizes its shots quite well. Nice one, Donald McAlpine! Directing...directing. Baz Lurhmann is..a lot. But that’s not entirely his fault. However, the way certain actors are directed is ENTIRELY his fault, and there are points taken off for that. Because sometimes...sometimes...just...SOMETIMES...

Production and Art Design: 10/10

NO hesitation with this one, this film’s appearance is iconic, memorable, visually distinctive...amazing. It’s an amazing looking movie! Yeah, this one’s a perfect score, no goddamn joke there!

Music and Editing: 3/10

...Look, the music is fine. Three people (Nellee Hooper, Marius de Vries, Craig Armstrong) worked on it, and both the original score for the film, and some of the premade songs use work quite well. Some of them, however, like “When Doves Cry,” are just...weird. But, still, credit where credit’s due. So, then, why the low score?

BECAUSE JILL BILCOCK’S EDITING MADE ME STROKE THE FUCK OUT, THAT’S WHY. This movie’s frenetic editing, while typical of the Luhrmann-Bilcock collaborations, HURT MY GODDAMN MIND. And, yeah, this movie was nominated for Best Visual Edting, and Best Sound Editing, AND ABSOLUTELY DESERVED NEITHER. Listen to me, OK? Editing is a notoriously difficult thing to judge, and that goes for the Oscars committee as well. Often, the editing that makes it to nominations is the editing that’s easiest to see, and therefore easiest to judge. But just because your editing is obvious DOESN’T MEAN IT’S GOOD GOD FUCKING DAMMIT MY EYES ARE BLEEDING

All things considered, I’m going for a 72%

It’s fine...but it’s also a lot. As Shakespeare adaptations go, this definitely isn’t the worst. Hell, as RaJ adaptations go, it probably isn’t the worst, either. But in any case, this one just...hurt my mind. MOCK ME IF YOU MUST, but that editing really took a toll on my psyche.

I could do more Baz Luhrmann, and tackle Moulin Rouge...buuuuuuuut, no. Not now, anyway. How bout we go for another adaptation of a British author’s story? And for that matter, let’s go for a recently popular one!

youngbae fan here. what bothers me most about their behaviour is they spent YEARS criticizing ot4, listing all the ways they thought they mistreated seungri. seungri's indulgent whims weren't supported? ot4 are bullies. bb fans irritated by seungri delaying his enlistment for months and months and months? avalanche of hate from his fans saying how dare you be so selfish. and now that seungri needs ot4, ri fans are pretending they're loyal VIPs when really they are using ot4. just like he did.

About 3 years ago, let’s say mid 2016, when that Japanese movie Seungri featured in called High & Low was set to be released, BB was touring in Japan. During each concert the members set some time aside to promote the movie, talking up Seungri’s involvement in it. It was usually Daesung and Youngbae taking on this task, and each and every time they turned it into something fun. They did this during fanmeetings too – Daesung pretending to be Seungri’s overexcited fan, and Youngbae, Seungri’s bodyguard, deterring Daesung and throwing him to the stage floor.

Problem was, some of Seungri’s fans here at Tumblr didn’t like the way SunDae went about it. They complained that the hyungs “weren’t taking him seriously,” that they were “making fun of him,” that every time Youngbae and Daesung started up with their silly little skits Seungri didn’t seem amused – he seemed annoyed.

“They’re always picking on him,” they said. “Seungri deserves better.”

Naturally, this soon evolved to “Seungri doesn’t need BIGBANG anymore. He’s better off on his own.”

And finally, “Petition for Seungri to leave BIGBANG and go solo.”

At the time I made post after post trying to reason with these people. “Think about what you’re saying. Do you really want them to part ways?” That sort of thing. Yeah, okay, the skits were admittedly pretty silly, but in SunDae’s defense, they were memorable. What would his fans have preferred, a quick talk segment? “Hey guys, Seungri recently starred in a movie in which he’s a mafia boss’s son, it’s called High & Low, please go see it.” Booooring. Embarrassing though they were, they were also entertaining; I remember them even now, years later. Think I even turned them into a gifset or two, one of which seems to have been floating around Tumblr recently.

But among it all, the most important message? Stop telling the man what to do with his own damn career! If he thinks it’s in his best interest to go his own way, then he will! What is it about Seungri’s fans that have always compelled them to be so controlling?

Anyway… I guarantee you many of these same people are the ones pushing the whole “BIGBANG isn’t BIGBANG without Seungri,” and “BIGBANG is five or nothing,” and “We’ll wait to see what the hyungs have to say” bullshit in recent days.

To those fans, on the off chance that you’re still lurking around here: y’all wanted Seungri to leave the group. Now he has, and you’re begging the remaining members to bring him back. Why? Because he’s in deep shit and you know it’s the only way you’ll ever see him again? Tough luck. Whatever his reasons, the man made his decision. Maybe for once in your life… let him.

There are a lot of things, believe it or not. I’m not great at articulating myself sometimes, so you get more bullet points:

pretty much. though i blog about other things on occasion, it’s most of what you’ll see.

I don’t engage in ship wars because i, personally, think they’re dumb. ship and let ship. i believe that everyone is entitled to interpret what they watch in their own way, and just because it might be different than what i or the majority think, doesn’t mean it’s wrong. i believe in practicing kindness, keeping an open mind, and having discussion.

criticism is okay! you’re allowed to not like something. sometimes i don’t like things in the show, choices made, etc. but i don’t put up with hate. and by hate, i mean people who actively post negativity, send negativity, and bash anyone who thinks differently about characters, fics, the show, etc.

sometimes i randomly disappear for mental health purposes. i’m super inconsistent with posting fic updates. sometimes i’m in ‘fight me’ mode, which is typically where you’ll see me at my most petty lmao.

the big one, the one thing that has gotten me into a ton of trouble in the last few months, is my belief that all fiction has a right to exist, that fanfiction writers should not be held to a lower standard than published writers. basically, i am an advocate for the attitude of ‘don’t like, don’t read’. and maybe don’t assume to worst of people, along the way.

WIP MEME

List all the things you’re currently working on in as much or little detail as you’d like, then tag some friends to see what they’re working on. This can be writing, art, vids, gifsets - anything at all!

Aight.... shoot, gotta collect all my notes.

1) Escaping Ostagar:

This one is my only current Dragon Age fic. It’s... been a labour of love. My baby Melisande is a bit of a self-insert, I was maybe trying to use her to get a hold on my own PTSD. Maybe I cared way too much about this damn story. I’ve been working on it since Dec 2016 and it was the very first of my own writing I ever tried to share with anyone. Twice now I’ve given up on it despite having the last 12 chapters planned out. I still want to finish it but... I gotta get to a point where it doesn’t hurt that it got little attention. Like I said, I invested way too much into it.

2) I Have To Try:

WOOO Currently my most progressed new story-child. Probably going to start posting it soon. Set in Andromeda, it follows none other than a bedraggled Avitus Rix in his new and initially unwelcome role as Pathfinder and the creation of his Pathfinding team. I didn’t like that we didn’t even hear news or anything playing about the other Pathfinder’s efforts to make their own colonies and help in whatever ways they could. A couple cameos where they take back seat to Ryder, which is unfair to ALL of the Pathfinders. Why put the other races and the entire Initiative on Ryder’s shoulders when the others have more experience and just as many resources? Kaetus gets dragged along for the ride, as well as an APEX team led by the fierce ex-Cabal Vitetoria Digeris.

3) Though This Be Madness:

Hehehe this one certainly lives up to its name more than I expected. The story focuses around the blog’s namesake Samantha Curtis along with her wayward AI OPI, her adopted Batarian family Ragar and Ecetia, and the Krogan she knows way too much about Ganar Jirr. This one I'm taking a step back on to rethink how I'm gonna set it up. Originally it started right before the Initiative left for Andromeda and followed Sam taking on both an incurable illness and the Kett she needs to stay alive AND trying to outrun every faction now after them both.... BUT THEN SAM FELL IN LOVE. She met Rexis Sarex, an adorable troublemaker created by @masseffectoc and now I can’t write them apart. I got permission to include her characters in the story too and IT WILL BE GLORIOUS SHENANIGANS. If I start at the same place I was going to, it’ll still work but miss a lot of character and relationship building. SO I’ll either back up and start from farther back and end up with something as long as goddamn GRRM’s books, or I’ll split it into 2 and make a prequel where Sam and Rex meet and all the characters come together and decide to go with them to Andromeda or not. At least..... the ones who survive. Mwahahaha.

4) Chronicles of Jirr:

Ok, I’ll be the first to admit it. Ganar Jirr was originally just a nameless NPC I randomly created to give Sam a funny story to tell and amuse Rexis. Now he is one of my most dynamic characters I’ve ever made, I think. Affectionately nicknamed Krogan James Bond, by myself, this will be a series of stories told alternate BY him or about him. The ones told by him will probably be ridiculously exaggerated or entirely made up, fair warning.

5) Blast Off:

This is gonna be a surprise for masseffectoc for her birthdaaaaaay so I'm not gonna say more than I told her. Which is that it’s an addition to Having A Blast, a silly fic pair I made for Sam and Rexis and his obsession with Blasto.

6) Untitled (thus far):

I recently heard of a 10k word count challenge for the month of March, held by @mebigbang and I’m thinking of doing something for it. It sounds mildly terrifying but an excellent challenge and one I know I can hit the word count on (HA) if my other fics are of any indication. I tagged their blog here so if any artists or authors are interested (there’s an art part as well to Mass Effect Big Bang) you can check it out. I’ve got a couple ideas floating around but given that there’s a level of anonymity I won’t describe them just yet. I don’t wanna break the rules before I decide if I even can jump in.

7) Post ME3 - currently untitled:

My take on the end of ME3 and how the people I care about make it through, a Garrus/Shep fic. It’s pretty amorphous atm since my OC fics have been taking up much more of my time.

8) Halfsies:

Alright, this one is... urk. It’s the most conceptualized original idea I’ve had yet to date. It’s one I’ve put together enough to potentially go through on. I just don’t know if I’m good enough to get published and I’ve been so stressed with life stuff going on the last few years I’m still at concept stage. Anyway, premise... let me see if I can even describe this right.

Have you ever seen something out of the corner of your eye and for an instant you know it’s real and you HAVE to look at it but then as soon as you do you explain it away? Oh that was just the shadow off the vase. Damn, my cat scared the shit out of me. Those are Halfsies. Halfsies live halfway been this realm and another and have no form until they’re fully Recognised. They WANT to be Recognised. It is the only driving need they have and they fight viciously for it, to be made Real. Our main character makes a game out of trying to trick herself into believing what startles her is real instead of explaining it away automatically and one day she accidentally makes one Real. The form it takes is exactly what the MC imagined so it’s rather cartoonish and surreal looking, but it immediately grabs the MC and tells it to stop. That ALL of the Halfsies, literally there are no ways to count them because they don’t have form and always create more, now know the MC can make them Real, Recognise them. And they ALL are after the MC now and will do anything, drive them insane if they have to, in order to be made Real. And the MC has to rely on their befriended Halfsie and a few other friends to escape.

Alright, I know I have more. I ALWAYS have more. But these are the only ones coming to mind right now.
