HEPATITIS,BETTER NEVER THAN LATE
HEPATITIS,BETTER NEVER THAN LATE
Hepatitis means inflammation of the liver. The liver is also a key player in the area of nutrition. Most of what we eat and digest goes directly to it for storage (as in the case of glycogen, iron, and all the fat-soluble vitamins) or resynthesis (the production of substances such as cholesterol, hemoglobin, and countless proteins that circulate in the bloodstream). Because it performs so many…

╰┈➤ ꒰🍓💌🥛 ┊boba time ┊ Hana #03 ꒱
『♡』 Katsuki decides he hates phlebotomists, nurses and doctors more than just about anything.
『♡』 needles, emotional katsuki, doctor appointments, baby check ups, having a baby and all that comes with it, fluff, post partum check up, everyone say thank you @majorapandahero for the idea (p.s I apologize if anything is innaccurate)
The baby and you have needed an unreal amount of doctors appointments and tests since birth. He knew, somewhere in the back of his head, that it was needed. But it didn’t hit him just how much there was to it until now.
You scheduled your appointments back to back to save on time. Yours has gone smoothly, as you primarily needed a basic post partum check up. It just ensures that all is well and healing smoothly.
The doctor warned the two of you to avoid sex for another week or two, because, apparently it’s just asking for another baby otherwise. He poured a little at that, missing that part of your intimacy.
Your doctor brings up depression, anxiety, and other symptoms you might be having. The look on your face explaining how truly anxious you’ve been is one she knows well. But she refers you to a therapist and names off a few tools for adjusting to life.
She asks how your urinary incontinence is going, if there’s been much or any progress. Your face heats as you explain that not much has changed but you’re working on it. He bounces the baby in his arms, pressing a kiss to her forehead. He wonders if she knows, as little as she is, that her mommy keeps wetting herself as a result of her birth.
The halls of the hospital and office are cold and sterile. People bustle through the rooms and cool air wraps around the two of you. The intercom beeps and announces that Dr. Brown is needed in room 203.
Katsuki didn’t have warning. He knew the baby needed some tests done but he didn’t know it would be like this.
The doctor said she was coming along fine, measured her little body and worked around here and there, writing things down. But she said the little one still needed a few things taken care of.
And Katsuki hates it. His arms hold his daughter close, lip quivering. And the woman is gentle, wiping the bottom of Hana’s tiny foot with an alcohol prep pad.
You coo from the side, pressing a kiss to the side of his face and tell him she’s fine. But it’s not, it won’t be. Because the woman does something called a “heel stick” and Hana cries.
And it makes him want to cry. His little baby crying in pain, and there’s nothing he can do about it. Because these tests are necessary. The shots are necessary. His darling girl is squirming and screaming in his grip and he can’t do anything but bouncer her and apologize.
One of your hands begins to rub his back in support and tell him she won’t remember it in a few minutes. But his heart squeezes in his chest.
“We only have one more scheduled, she needs her Hepatitis B vaccine. Doc wanted to go ahead and get it out of the way, since she’s a little over a month now.” The woman reassures, rolling backwards in the chair to throw a few things in a biohazard disposer.
And oh, it’s just about the worse thing he can imagine. Because they have to put her on the stupid, hard table and he can’t hold her the whole time.
His eyes prick with tears watching Hana writhe as the nurse gets ready for the injection. She still hasn’t stopped crying. Fat, ugly tears roll down her face as she hic’s and wails.
“Baby, don’t watch if you can’t.. it’s okay.” You soothe, rubbing your thumb over the back of his hand.
It’s over quick and he all but swoops his little girl off the blasphemous table and into his arms. He peppers little kisses all over her face and apologies over and over. He bounces her, kissing her boo boos and she starts to sniffle as he soothes her.
And the phlebotomist snorts a little, chuckles even. She finishes everything up and goes over a few things out loud. Her gloves come off with a snap and she’s cooing at the sight. She glances down at the paperwork and chart next to her, then back up.
“For a big, scary pro, he sure is a softie sometimes huh?” She murmurs, brow lifted as she watches the scene in front of her.
You snort and he turns up his nose, glaring at her.
“I hate these damn places and the shitheads in them.” The blonde grumbles, pressing a kiss to the baby’s cheek and turning away slightly.
She sniffles lightly still, curling further into him.
You smack at his arm and demand he apologize to the poor woman in front of you but she cackles. The doctor allows you three to leave and he spends the entire car ride ranting about how much he hated that.
His face scrunches when you tell him there’s another appointment, only a month later.

Bisexuality, Biphobia, and Health
This is going to be a quick run-through, but no doubt I'll return to this topic in future posts. For now:
The following are the statistically significant (i.e. strong evidence) findings of Horn and Swartz, 2019, “A Comparative Analysis of Lifetime Medical Conditions and Infectious Diseases by Sexual Identity, Attraction, and Concordance among Women: Results from a National U.S. Survey”:
Bisexual women reported higher rates of poverty (26.4%) than homosexual (18.9%) or heterosexual women (15.7%)
Bisexual women reported higher rates of asthma (18%) than homosexual (16.5%) or heterosexual women (10.8%)
Bisexual women reported higher rates of hepatitis B/C and were more likely to report having had an STI in the last 12 months than homosexual or heterosexual women
Bisexual women were more likely to report having had any form of cancer than heterosexual women
The 2016 “Comparison of Health and Health Risk Factors Between Lesbian, Gay, and Bisexual Adults and Heterosexual Adults in the United States: Results From the National Health Interview Survey” found:
46.4% of bisexual women had symptoms of moderate or severe psychological distress, compared to 28.4% of homosexual women, and 21.9% of heterosexual women
11.7% of bisexual women reported heavy alcohol consumption, compared to 8.9% of homosexual women and 4.8% of heterosexual women
Bisexual women were found to be more likely to have multiple chronic health conditions than heterosexual women
The 2016 “Intragroup Variance in Lesbian, Gay, and Bisexual Tobacco Use Behaviors” study found that bisexual women are more likely to smoke than homosexual or heterosexual women.
“Sexual orientation health inequality: Evidence from Understanding Society, the UK Longitudinal Household Study”, 2017, found that bisexual respondents had worse physical functioning scores, psychological distress scores, and health and life satisfaction scores than heterosexual respondents.
The Oxford Handbook of Sexual and Gender Minority Mental Health (Bostwick and Harrison, 2020), finds bisexual women to have worse rates of depression, anxiety, and substance use. They reference Conron et al., 2010, who found bisexual women to be TEN TIMES more likely to have considered suicide in the last year than heterosexual or homosexual women, and that bisexual women were more likely to have attempted suicide than any other group studied. They also reference Kerridge et al., 2017, who found bisexual women to have the highest prevalence of PTSD of any group studied, that bisexual people have more personality disorder diagnoses than heterosexual or homosexual people, and that bisexual women have significantly higher odds of a bipolar diagnosis. The book makes a point of noting that stereotypes about bisexual people may factor into diagnostic criteria and processes.
And just for good measure, below the cut is the entire bisexual chapter of "LGBT Health: Meeting the Needs of Gender and Sexual Minorities", 2018 - full references and digital text available on request:

L after fucking L at the clinic today for FOUR STRAIGHT hours
First, [Specialist] was out here like, bro i think you just have [fully recoverable virus for humans commonly associated with dogs, NOT lycanthropy sadly], I'm like THE DISEASE THAT DOGS GET?? He was like yeah but the human kind dw. But I'm pretty sure that's what's going on. I was like bro come on. And then he sent me to the lab for bloodwork just to make sure I have fully recoverable dog virus where they took even more of my blood...please...ladies....how will the sexy vampires feast on me tonight if I have no blood...
Then went to my gp and took seventeen more losses. Told her some symptoms that were bothering me for a while, she was like lmao bro you haven't dealt with this REOCCURRING ON A WEEKLY BASIS SYMPTOM for HOW long!!? I was like lady listen. You referred me to [a different specialist] in 2021 and he did blood work and was just like take antihistamines and i got super mad and never saw him again. She was like ok but the antihistamines did not work?? And you just lived like that?? FOR TWO YEARS?? I was like i have a tragic backstory involving the medical field that causes me to shy away from seeking medical help!!! She was like ok but I'm writing you another referral You Do Not Have To Live Like This.
Then [Department I was referred to] called me while I was sitting in the lobby waiting in fifteen minute vaccine jail (ya boy will be fully hepatitis b vaccinated soon...fellas watch out...) and they were like sooo you're actually an established patient of this man due to seeing him in 2021...so you have to see him. I was like, must I. Simply must I. And the nice administrator on the phone was like, well most of our department is going on vacation this summer, butttttt. yeah no you do lol. I was like I GUESS!! But at least this appt is in person unlike the last one, which was telehealth - I am way better at advocating for myself in person. so if he says hmm, i think you should take even more antihistamines i can fight him in real life.
And then i had to get an x-ray bc apparently [ENTIRELY UNRELATED SYMPTOM TO EVERYTHING ELSE THAT I THOUGHT WAS JUST A SYMPTOM OF AGING] is not something doctors are generally thrilled to hear abt you having for years. And i met a very nice x-ray technician who was a little on edge bc there was a kid in the next x-ray room having a screaming meltdown you could hear from the waiting room. I was like bro i get it. I also need to go scream in front of my mom
And then after all that was done, i texted my mom tell her that i probably have a dog virus that isn't even lycanthropy and she was buddy you had dog virus in preschool lmao you'll live. Pain.
I also apparently canceled therapy in a fugue state sometime in the past two weeks so i only have one more healthcare appointment this week 😩 but this last one i am not dreading TOO much bc a) this was not a referral, i choose her specifically based on the stress i have around [fourth probably unrelated problem to everything else, not lycanthropy] and b) i had a fifteen minute consult with her last week where she was like hmm. Wow. I need to see you weekly, actually. And sent me intake forms immediately. So while this one will be an expensive weekly pain in the ass, at least i will not be waiting until August like my other damn specialist.
Anyway the reason i wrote all that out is a) you all were so kind and sympathetic while i have been going tf thru it for the past three weeks and I felt you deserved an update that i am NOT dying imminently, 2) i learned a valuable lesson today which is that if you put off dealing with/refuse to deal with several physical health problems separately for several years, eventually they snowball to a point where you just feel bad in your body all the time and then it's even more of a pain in the ass to deal with them all at once and you run the risk of being at the clinic for four hours straight slowly losing the will to live. Don't be me, don't do that. Address what is making you feel bad in your body and make sure your problems are heard. Like i am saying this as someone with medical trauma. It is YOUR body and YOUR life, you do not have to spend every day feeling bad for (likely) treatable reasons.
And I'm not even a werewolf 😭😭😭

Ludwig van Beethoven died in Vienna about 200 years ago after a lifetime of composing some of the most influential works in classical music — and biographers have long struggled to explain his death.
The German composer died at the age of 56 after lengthy struggles with chronic illness and progressive hearing loss.
An international team of researchers who sequenced Beethoven's genome using authenticated locks of his hair may now have some answers.
Liver failure, or cirrhosis, was the likely cause of Beethoven's death, brought about by a number of factors, including alcohol consumption, they said.
“We looked at possible genetic causes of his three main symptom complexes — the progressive hearing loss, the gastrointestinal symptoms and the liver disease ultimately leading to his death due to liver failure,” said Markus Nothen of the Institute of Human Genetics at the University Hospital of Bonn.
Beethoven, Mr Nothen said, had a strong genetic disposition to liver disease and sequences of the hepatitis B virus were detected in his hair.
“We believe the disease arose from an interplay of genetic disposition, well-documented chronic alcohol consumption and hepatitis B infection,” Mr Nothen said.
Tumblr media
The authors of a study on Beethoven's death, published in the Cell Press journal Current Biology on Wednesday, were unable to determine any genetic causes for the progressive hearing loss that eventually left the composer completely deaf by 1818.
"The researchers analysed eight locks of hair said to be from Beethoven and determined that five of them were almost certainly authentic,” said Tristan Begg, a doctoral student at the University of Cambridge and lead author of the study.
“Because we reconstructed the genome from ultra-short DNA fragments, we only confidently mapped about two thirds of it.”
Beethoven, who was born in Bonn in 1770 and died in 1827, battled gastrointestinal problems at various times of his life as well as jaundice.
“There were periods of acute illness where he was unable to work — for example, his month-long period of acute illness in the spring of 1825,” Mr Begg said.
Tumblr media
The researchers, by studying Beethoven's DNA data and archival documents, also uncovered a discrepancy in his legal and biological genealogy.
They found an “extra-pair paternity event” — which appears in children resulting from an extramarital relationship — in Beethoven's direct paternal line, said Toomas Kivisild of the Institute of Genomics at the University of Tartu.
Mr Kivisild said it occurred sometime within seven generations that separate a common ancestor, Aert van Beethoven, at the end of the 16th century and Beethoven's birth in 1770.
“You cannot rule out that Beethoven himself may have been illegitimate,” Mr Begg said.
Beethoven had asked in an 1802 letter to his brothers that his health problems, particularly his hearing loss, be described after his death.
“He had the wish to be studied postmortem,” Mr Krause said.
“And it is kind of, basically, his wish that we are fulfilling to some degree with this project.”

Ludwig van Beethoven (baptised 17 December 1770 – 26 March 1827) was a German composer and pianist.

Queer Healthcare As We Age
If you are a cis lesbian, please continue to get your STI checks if you're having unprotected hookups or are having sex with non-monogamous/fidelious partners. Cis lesbians can transmit STIs to each other and one of the most frustrating myths I run into in queer circles is that lesbians are "cleaner". Sadly, this is also used as a means to bully bisexual women by biphobic lesbians, which is both ethically horrific and ALSO factually complete horseshit.
If you are transmasculine and have been on testosterone therapy for more than a year, it is highly likely that you have started to develop prostatic tissue within your vaginal canal (click for source). This is a phenomenon we're only just beginning to understand, but it will have health implications for transgender people for many, many decades to come. In the future, it may become necessary for us to recommend that all AFAB recipients of gender-affirming testosterone therapy (as it involves much higher levels of T than non-GAHRT) receive semi-regular checkups of their vaginal canal if they have not had complete resection of the vagina (i.e. "total bottom surgery") to check for possible prostate cancer. Until then, please just remember that, as you age, it may become advisable to lower your levels of T to match those of a same-age cis man, or stop taking T if you feel comfortable doing so, as this massively reduces the risk of prostate cancer.
If you are transfeminine and have a prostate then, while oestrogen and anti-androgen HRTs do lower the rate of prostate cancer, they ABSOLUTELY DO NOT make prostate cancer impossible. There have been several cases of advanced prostate cancer identified in trans women who had spent years on HRT and, as noted by this paper (click through), there were SUBSTANTIAL alterations to the cellular structure of the prostate as a result of HRT that could potentially cause a pathologist looking at a cancerous biopsy specimen to NOT RECOGNISE IT AS CANCER. If you are transfeminine and have been on HRT for a long time, then please make sure you're familiar with the signs and symptoms of prostate disease and that you tell your doctor about them. If your doctor says they aren't sure it's a concern for you due to being on HRT, please insist that they test you anyway. As a medical student who is CURRENTLY learning this shit, I have NOT BEEN TAUGHT that trans women can get prostate cancer and I needed to research it separately to discover that they could. Older doctors have a very, very, very high chance of simply not being aware that this is even a concern.
If you're a person whose partner is currently pregnant and you want to be able to help in breastfeeding your child, please be aware that it's actually possible to induce lactation! You may need to seek out a specialist midwife or other medical professional for advice and support in how to initiate lactation, but it IS possible for you to co-nurse your baby together. This process DOES NOT have to involve domperidone and, as someone who is trained in using and does know how to use herbal medicines, I would strongly advise not using herbal supplements unless you are specifically given permission to do so by your doctor.
Hepatitis B is sexually transmissible and is more easily transmitted via penetrative anal sex. Please get vaccinated against hep B. This isn't a long one, just get vaccinated. In Australia, a full course of hepatitis B vaccines will currently set you back $90 (not including the doctor's administration if you didn't see a bulk billing doctor), which you will pay in three instalments of $30 each. You will get your first injection immediately, then another 4 weeks after the initial dose, then a third and final vaccination between 4 and 6 months after the initial dose. The vaccine is very well-tolerated and extremely widely available in all developed nations.
PLEASE ADD TO THIS POST!

Introducing: Sanguine
Sanguine has been sitting on the back-burner for a while now, but since I started this account I decided that it was probably the best way to start off!
The idea at the center of this all is looking at the trope of vampirism in a different light. Not just humanizing it, which has definitely been done before, but extrapolating upon the actual effects of vampirism as a whole through the lense of modern medicine. When I first had this idea, I kind of toyed with it for a bit, then forgot about it. When I found it again, I proceeded to spend an entire day researching so that I could create an in-depth document that outlines symptoms, causes, and transmission.
That being said, trigger warning! Lots of blood related talk and medical topics, since I know some people are sensitive to that.
To better summarize over four pages of writing, vampirism, formally known in this story as called the Sanguis Endogenus Retrovirus, is a blood-transmitted disease, like malaria or Hepatitis B/C. However, its usually spread through animal hosts. Within nonhuman animals, it's functionally inert, but when the virus finds itself in the bloodstream of a human host, it begins to make copies of itself and insert them into the hosts' genome, causing mutations. Some key aspects are that the human host is essentially mutated to spread the virus, whether they wish to or not:
The salivary glands produce even more copies of the virus, as well as draculin, the anticoagulant (blood thinner) found in the saliva of real life vampire bats
Teeth undergo a process similar to tooth growth in shark, and are able to be replicated if lost
Muscle mass increased, though through the same chemical process seen in muscular hypertrophy (the overgrowth of muscles)
The immune system becomes even tankier, as the virus attacks any other foreign bodies to maintain control
The eye changes to be able to see more UV light than average
On one hand, a lot of these seem like they'd buff an infected person, but the "pros" (if you can even call them that) are significantly dimmed when you take into account the cons:
A lot of traits consistent with sickle-cell anemia like fatigue, dizzy spells, weakness, and paling of the skin become chronic
The stomach, kidneys, and bladder all mutate, making the host unable to consume plant matter (aka become an obligate carnivore), while still being able to survive the resulting increase in protein and iron
Eyesight in daylight grows increasingly more sensitive, to the point of migraines
Skin blisters in any kind of UV light, and takes even longer to heal than average burns
Can cause effects like coughing up blood and frequent nosebleeds, which can lead to further exacerbation of the anemic traits mentioned before
The glands that produce adrenaline begin to work overtime, alongside the amygdala, which controls survival instincts and causes extremely heightened levels of anxiety and paranoia
The body requires much more sleep than before, up to 18 hours a day as a means to compensate for the energy needed to sustain the body and the virus
Overall, it becomes something of a very aggressive chronic disease rather than the Twilight sparkly vampires or demon-like Nosferatu equivalents. And because it's remains dormant when inside of animals, its hard to predict or contain the disease. However, the upside is that it is incredibly rare yet fast-progressing, meaning that "damage control" is often able to be conducted early on.
By "damage control", I mean the general detainment and capture of people who have contracted vampirism and the overall proliferation of an intercontinental conspiracy to suppress the existence of the disease from the public.
So, like with everything, the government(s) are in on it. And they're not afraid to commit crimes against humanity to keep the social order in check.
This brings in the Seward Institute, a medical research and technology company that specializes in blood-related diseases, developing treatments and medical technology, all while beneath the surface performing (wildy unethical) government-funded studies on individuals infected with vampirism.
Because of their massive global influence, medical technology (and the medical field overall) have gained an even higher status, and STEM research within colleges has increased tenfold. Seward hands out internships to those who seem promising, and this is exactly where we find one of the main characters of the actual story behind this project.
But that's for another day :)
I gotta keep some kind of other content to show you guys for later. Can't reveal all the secrets at the very start!
I'll keep on posting more as we go, so tune in!

Photos and text via Endangered Primate Foundation
It's true - lemurs and many other primates are adorable! And you've seen photos of people playing with these charming animals on social media, in movies and T.V. shows, even on greeting cards! Many primates are bred in captivity and exploited as unique pets, surrogate children, or status symbols. There are approximately 15,000 privately owned primates in the United States. They can be purchased through pet stores, newspaper and internet ads, and even at flea markets. A diverse array of species is found in the pet trade, from tiny marmosets to the most dangerous of all primates, chimpanzees.
Unfortunately, lemurs and other primates make terrible pets. All primates, including lemurs, are dangerous animals that can inflict serious and life-threatening injuries. They are wild animals, not domesticated, and their natural instincts remain very much intact even in captivity. Wild animals have sudden episodes of aggression that cannot be controlled or untrained. Upon sexual maturity, pet primates will begin attacking. Children are especially vulnerable since primates are naturally inclined to establish dominance hierarchies. It is inhumane to remove their teeth and even small primates can inflict significant injuries and transmit serious diseases. Many of the lemur residents at EPF's Prosimian Sanctuary have attacked humans, in some cases causing serious injury. EPF staff only have protected contact with the sanctuary residents - meaning there is always some kind of barrier between the lemurs and the staff - and receive extensive safety training. Protective equipment, specially-designed habitats and barriers, and husbandry protocols developed by primate experts all contribute to the safety of staff and residents.
Tumblr media
Another reason that lemurs are pets to regret is that they pose a risk of disease. Nonhuman primates are our closest living relatives, thus many serious diseases can be transferred between human and non-human primates, including the common cold, influenza, internal parasites, measles, yellow fever, hepatitis, tuberculosis, herpes B virus, monkeypox, Ebola virus, Marburg virus, and Simian Immunodeficiency Virus (SIV, the nonhuman primate version of HIV). Some of these diseases can be fatal to humans. Illnesses that typically only cause minor symptoms in humans can be deadly to nonhuman primates. Preliminary research based on genetic markers suggests that lemurs may be susceptible to Covid-19 and potentially able to spread the virus to humans.
Tumblr media
Many pet primates end up confiscated, abandoned, or euthanized after their owners are no longer able to handle the financial, legal, or physical burdens of caring for an active, intelligent, and frequently aggressive pet. There is tremendous demand for sanctuary space because so many private owners have learned the hard way that wild animals like lemurs do not belong in human environments. Other reputable sanctuaries either don’t accept prosimians or are at or near capacity. EPF's Prosimian Sanctuary is the only sanctuary in the US dedicated solely to providing behavioral rehabilitation and lifelong care for prosimians. Part of EPF's mission is to educate others on the dangers and risks of primate pet ownership to discourage this practice.

Plants and animals as containers for medicinal ingredients (Essay)
Tumblr media
Sea cucumbers
``Ginseng'' is said to have ``the main medicinal part is the root, and the useful ingredient is a group of saponins called ginsenosides, which are effective against diabetes, arteriosclerosis, and nourishing tonics, and have been taken since ancient times. Because they have the effect of increasing blood pressure, It has been said that people with high blood pressure should refrain from drinking it. However, there are reports that drinking it will lower it, and it is said that it actually has an adjustment effect on the body. It is also said that drinking it can lower blood pressure. It also has a conditioning effect. Once cultivated, Korean ginseng cannot be grown on the same land for 60 years.
Now, there are creatures in the sea that have medicinal properties comparable to ginseng...Sea ginseng...Sea cucumbers. In fact, sea cucumbers are extremely nutritious and have medicinal properties. Another characteristic of sea ginseng is that it contains saponin.
Sea cucumbers contain a well-balanced abundance of nutrients, including vitamins such as vitamins B and E, and minerals such as calcium, iron, and zinc. In China, sea cucumber is used as a treatment for chronic hepatitis and is said to have a tonic effect on the kidneys, prevent arteriosclerosis, recover from decreased sexual function, improve constipation, and have diuretic effects.
In addition, it contains nutritional ingredients that have been attracting attention in recent years, such as collagen and chondroitin, which promote metabolism, keep skin and skin youthful, and act as a cushion to reduce the burden on the knees and lower back that supports body weight. Another characteristic of sea cucumbers is that they contain.
Also, arrowroot(kudzuroot) has been widely used as a main ingredient in crude drugs since ancient times. Kudzu root contains small amounts of isoflavone derivatives such as daidzein, daidzein, and phularin, which have sweating, antipyretic, and antispasmodic effects. Isoflavones also help lower blood cholesterol and control calcium levels in the body, so they are said to be effective against osteoporosis and menopausal symptoms.
Trace ingredients are important. These characteristics are thought to be due to the roots of kudzu growing deep underground and sucking up nutrients from the soil. In the case of potatoes, they are probably about 30 cm below the surface of the earth, so they cannot perform tricks like kudzu.
