Band of Brothers Ages: IRL vs. Actors

Did you know that according to a 1947 study, almost half the men who served in WWII were still under age 26 by the end of the war?

What this is : A (very long) post comparing the ages of the actors in Band of Brothers vs. the IRL figures they are portraying.

Background: Did I need to do this? No. Did anyone ask for this? Also no. Did I do it anyway? Yes.

Disclaimers: This is SUPER approximate for the most part. I based IRL ages off of D-Day unless otherwise noted, and actor ages off of January 1, 2000, the year filming took place (the latter is where the most variation will be because I didn't try to figure out what month filming started). I also didn't fact-check birthdays beyond googling. Most are sourced from the Band of Brothers and Military Wikis on fandom.com, Wikipedia, and IMDb.

I broke them up into rough categories, which are, again, approximate. I know I often forget how young the real life people were here, and this was a good reminder of that. I also found it interesting to see which actors were actually younger than their roles!

(More) Things I Noticed in UKsies: Fansie Night Edition! (Act 1)

I was lucky enough to see newsies again at the fansie night last night and it was incredible!! Here are more little moments that I loved :) This is gonna be long.

The absolute roar from the audience as soon as the lights went down to start the show, fansies are something else, man, this audience was on fire

At the very beginning Race looks so happy reading the paper I can't his smile was so big - Josh Barnett has said that this is his favourite part of the show and it shows!!

Lady behind me tried to buy a paper from one of the newsies but he wouldn't give it to her because she didn't have cents

Matthew Duckett (Crutchie) can do the fingers-in-the-mouth loud whistle thing and uses it a lot during the show, first to call the newsies to work

Not me wondering the entire time how Race's cigar and Morris' cigarette work only to be reminded that e-cigarettes exist

My mum's face after Splasher did a backflip whilst skipping - Ross Dorrington, my God

'Hey! Hey! *spin* Get ya papes!'

The way the newsies just slide around the stage and careen off of it, its an accident waiting to happen but it looks so fun

Santa Fe Prologue, Jack yanks Crutchie away from that railing so fast poor guy he just wants to go down

Crutchie flinches away from Jack and laughs when he suddenly leaps towards him at 'close your eyes'

For like half of carrying the banner these boys are just half naked, you can see their mic packs running up their backs

Crutchie pickpockets Darcy

At some point Crutchie does something to offend Finch and gets whacked with his slingshot

Guy in front of woodside looks so sad the whole of the 'curdled coffee' bit and is contemplating life only to stand up and sing 'all I can catch is fleas'

He then proceeds to flick said fleas at another newsie who runs away and calls him disgusting

Wiesel descends from the ceiling

Alex James Hatton Davey!!

Alex's Davey is more mature than Ryan's, he seems more sure that he's here to do a job and isn't confused or intimidated by the newsies, he genuinely seems like an outsider who isn't in on the joke and is not impressed by their antics

'that's disgusting'

Henry gets on his knees and pretends to be a child in the line to get papes and keeps going 'I'm new too'

Right behind them a distraught Mike carries a limp Jojo who opens his eyes and says 'I'm dead' to Wiesel

Hannah and Bunsen squabble over a notebook in Bottom Line and Nunsio looks ready to commit

(Lindsay Atherton Hannah is amazing she is hilarious)

Alex Davey is very unsure selling papers to the audience he just kinda mumbles and seems a bit hopeless at it while Les just swindles everyone

The relationship between Alex!Davey and Les is very different to Ryan!Davey, Ryan is all over Les and is very affectionate whereas Alex seems to show the other half of large age gap sibling relationships, meaning he clearly cares about Les but also occasionally looks at him like he is the bane of his existence. Relatable.

Spot's actress is also a bowery beauty it's amazing, the bowery beauties also dance behind Medda during her performance and wink at the audience.

Newsie controlling the light for Medda's performance is concentrating Very Hard

Bobbie Chambers Katherine!!!

Bobbie!Katherine is very sarcastic and very uninterested in Jack but when he gives her the drawing makes a 'huh thats pretty good' face

The newsies watching Medda's show pick up the lights at the end of Don't Come A-Knocking and dance in a circle around them, mirroring their dance moves

Josh Denyer (Mush) has his moment to shine in the bit just after don't come a knocking and has a little solo which was heavily applauded, rightly so

When Race 'tells Wiesel (him)self' he literally goes up, closes the money box and just says 'no'

Katherine watches World Will Know from above the Bronx

When Jack writes on the chalk board he shoves Oscar out of the way very harshly several times and he ends up sprawled over some stairs unable to get up

There's a slide

Crutchie joins in with some of the dancing but his face screams 'help me idk how to do this' I love Matthew Duckett

Jack, Les, Davey and Crutchie confer before marching up through a corridor of newsies to the doors of the World. Crutchie stands facing away from the doors when they go in like he's standing guard, when they get thrown out, he falls to the side directly into the arms of another newsie trust fall style.

Despite already being given a borough to go to, Tommy Boy dives face-down under a table to avoid going to Brooklyn, Mush and another newsie (didn't see who 😅) put their bags on their heads

Bobbie!Katherine is a lot more sure of her self which makes it more meaningful when she shows the vulnerability of 'I'm just busting out of the social pages'

Les follows Crutchie at the end of the World Will Know mini-reprise and Crutchie looks sad when Davey calls him to go home, he then calls to Jack who is staying behind to talk to Katherine and says 'for fuck's sake' when he doesn't follow. This was confirmed by the girls in front row Brooklyn who he said it to because they couldn't stop giggling

Crutchie breaks the forth wall a lot

Katherine's hesitation on giving her last name is more played as she doesn't expect to have to provide one

Katherine physically puts distance between herself and Jack when he starts flirting

Watch What Happens is amazing!! Bobbie puts more frustration into it and speaks a lot of the lines, often punctuated by 'ugh'. Fun fact: Watch What Happens was Bobbie's drama school audition song and she has been working on it for actual years, it definitely shows, it was a brilliant delivery.

Davey really shows hesitation before Seize the Day and his voice goes wobbly in all the right places when he calls for Jack to help him out

'Maybe Pulitzer will see it out of his window and feel sorry for us' 'Heh?? *offended Crutchie noises*'

Crutchie is physically restrained from beating up on the scabbers

One of the scabbers is slipped extra money by Wiesel

Seize the Day was incredible as always, all other productions pale in comparison it is seriously next level, mid-song applause and a standing ovation afterwards (which really, really doesn't happen mid-show on the west end)

Splasher's box jumps!! I counted twelve last night. TWELVE.

Military snare in 'behold the brave battalion'

Crutchie stands offstage with Les to watch the Seize the Day dance break and whistles So Loud to cheer them on

And Mush's pirouettes!!!

Crutchie's agonised coughs when he's being arrested jfc Matt is good at that

The fight call for this show is insane, there is so much going on and its all so expertly done, something went a little wrong and Les' rope ascension didn't happen but so much goes on it wasn't missed

Crutchie whistles to signal the arrival of the police

Newspapers fall from the ceiling at the beginning of Santa Fe

Santa Fe was so good, Michael has such a pretty voice even while literally crying and he uses his little postcard a lot throughout, physically leaning over the railing of the tower like he's reaching for the idea of Santa Fe.

mais do que conhecidos no país de origem, a empreiteira dupont tinha os seus negócios espalhados por todo o mundo. responsáveis pela estruturação e construção dos empreendimentos mais caros e renomados entre a socialite mundial, não era atoa que os cofres bancários da família estavam lotados e cada vez mais impossíveis de serem contabilizados.

a sede da empresa, ainda na frança, fazia tudo ficar mais confortável para os herdeiros, que viviam a sua vida tranquila no país em que nasceram enquanto os escritórios e acionistas ao redor do mundo faziam tudo por eles.

elise e henri dupont eram a dupla de irmãos inseparáveis e que iriam herdar tudo o que o pai havia construído ao longo dos anos. envoltos em luxo, não sabiam viver fora da bolha e sequer eram recomendados a isso. a dupla sempre foi conectada durante a infância e henri não saberia mensurar como existiria sem elise ao seu lado, sem saber como era caminhar sem ter ela para observar os seus passos.

o garoto era muito educado, seguindo as etiquetas francesas, e conectado com o mundo, mas enganava-se quem achava que as suas ações eram feitas para impressionar os pais. tinha tanto orgulho e admiração pela irmã que não existiu um momento sequer na sua vida que não se espelhou ou não se moveu para que lise ficasse orgulhosa, do mesmo tanto que ele se sentia orgulhoso dela. fosse no círculo de amigos, fosse nas escolhas, fosse nas aventuras.

é claro que, como bons irmãos, tinham as suas brigas e desavenças ao longo do amadurecimento e não era de se admirar que, aproveitando a sua posição de caçula, tinha passe livre para fazer o que bem entendesse, acoplando a sua condição de ser homem. e antes que alguém pensasse o contrário, estava disposto a ajudar elise nessa.

todas as condições implícitas pelos pais para atrelar os dois, henri comprava com prazer. não iria sair com os amigos de elise, mas acompanhava ela até o ponto em que poderiam se separar e ter suas experiências individuais. e não foi diferente quando o tópico da universidade entrou em cena.

𝓫𝓪𝓬𝓴 𝓲𝓷 𝓽𝓲𝓶𝓮 ; 2014

o futuro não era muito certo para henri, viver como herdeiro o bastava e não pela preguiça, mas por saber que nada o que fizesse tiraria dele o trono dos dupont. muito pelo contrário, brilharia os olhos dos pais de qualquer forma.

ainda que achasse injusto a imposição de lise ser a grande responsável pela administração da empreiteira, sabia que viveria bons momentos com ela do outro lado do globo caso aceitasse um caminho parecido. e foi assim que henri embarcou numa nova aventura.

a escolha por arquitetura veio embasada no que poderia fazer dentro da empresa familiar sem precisar se esforçar. a verdade é que henri era apaixonado por esportes e música, podendo viver como um bon-vivant que não se incomodaria.

é por isso que, ao se mudar com a irmã para os estados unidos, entrou na maioria de esportes e clubes que lhe dariam o prazer que a vida francesa o disponibilizava e, como era de se esperar, juntou-se com os colegas para despejar o seu talento pelo campus como vocalista.

a banda tocava em vários eventos oficiais e não oficiais da UCLA, deixando o nome e o abdômen do francês estampado em todas as manchetes da universidade, como também em outros lugares.

𝓷𝓸𝔀𝓪𝓭𝓪𝔂𝓼 ; 2024

a vida adulta não foi muito distante do que havia selecionado. o emprego de arquitetura era claro na empreiteira dupont e, com muito esforço, cumpria as horas de trabalho sem reclamar.

o bom humor de henri era o responsável por deixar todo o time de arquitetos e designers de interiores mais relaxado, contribuindo por um setor menos ansioso e dramático na empresa.

alguns diziam que ele era um bom chefe, outros acionistas tinham certeza que ele amolecia demais os funcionários e não entregava tantos projetos como gostariam.

a verdade é que henri usava também das suas habilidades para finalizar o que não havia sido entregue, dando o mérito aos funcionários e deixando que fizessem o seu nome no ramo de arq&decor. enquanto isso, poucos eram os projetos endereçados diretamente a ele, mas que fazia a questão de cumprir quando o necessário.

o seu rosto não era muito visto nas mídias, apenas entre o time enxuto do escritório e em eventos privados. enquanto elise vivia na mídia, henri estava sempre nas sombras e evitando que o seu rosto fosse reconhecido e tudo isso tinha um motivo.

a boa condição familiar permitia que ele considerasse os seus hobbies com mais frequência e trouxe a música consigo para a vida adulta. com a mesma banda da universidade, utilizava dos finais de semana livres para se apresentar com a turma pelos pubs da cidade e restaurantes que não o reconheciam.

sem trajes caros e apenas sua paixão por cantar, fazia presença nos bares locais e se divertia na noite com o codinome de george. era bom ser uma pessoa sem sangue azul durante alguns dias da sua semana, isso o trazia de volta para a vida.

𝔀𝓱𝓪𝓽 𝓲𝓯 ; 2014 novamente?

ficção científica nunca foi um dos temas mais bem quistos pelo francês e nada o faria mudar de ideia. o interesse por ciência sempre foi mínimo e qualquer bobajada sobre o assunto era motivo suficiente para mudar o rumo da conversa ou abandoná-la de vez. entender esse processo custaria muita energia de quem quisesse convencê-lo, uma vez que apenas consideraria aceitar a temática com muitas provas e nenhum gap nas explicações. no mais, segue vivendo a sua vida sem acreditar em baboseiras.

𝓹𝓮𝓻𝓼𝓸𝓷𝓪𝓵𝓲𝓽𝔂traits

henri e elise estão sempre fechados, para tudo. não existe um detalhe da sua vida que a irmã não saiba, assim como não existe algo que ele não sabe sobre ela. as pessoas podem até tentar, mas eles sempre vão compartilhar confidências;

como um bom francês, flerte faz parte do seu modus-operandi e assim ele vive com qualquer pessoa que passe pela sua frente. não é sobre o interesse, mas sim jeito de viver. tenha um relacionamento ou não, henri sempre está flertando;

na época da faculdade, por causa de seus flertes, era comum que fizessem apostas sobre seus possíveis relacionamentos que sequer apareciam e isso dava-se por sua característica peculiar de filho mais novo: fazia tudo por baixo dos panos. era um santo aos olhos nus dos estudantes da UCLA, mas bem traiçoeiro quando ninguém conseguia vê-lo;

canta muito bem e sente prazer em fazer isso, então não é impossível vê-lo cantarolando pelo escritório ou pelos corredores da universidade, independente da linha do tempo, a música sempre está com ele.

Random modern AU thoughts I have that no one asked for

Morris tweets solely from his computer. There's no punctuation or capitalization. It's all stream of consciousness.

Oscar tweets solely from his phone, and everything is punctuated only with periods. No commas or anything, when he's finished a thought, he puts a period and moves on.

Morris has broken so many crayons, Oscar has gotten him the big jumbo ones, and eventually gets him a little art tablet.

Racer thinks he can outrace anyone at Mario Kart, but he's honestly mediocre, his friends just suck. So when he does races with fans, he gets his ass handed to him.

Skittery is a ghost hunter. They don't do anything once they find one, they're just looking for a thrill

Graves usually goes along with them, to make sure the dead is being respected, and because he's the one who is gonna put in the work to do the research and try to find out who is haunting the place and why

Blink doesn't get his nickname from his disability (though he is half blind). He gets it from the way a camera shutter 'blinks', which led to the name of his business/page 'Blink Photography'

Davey is very open about his mental illnesses. He talks about living life with autism and anxiety. How difficult it was with both him and Les (who is def AuDHD), especially with how tight money was for a long time.

Crutchie posts daily vlogs. This wholesome ray of sunshine is immediately taken up by the general public (much like AKB), and his entire audience can and will fistfight you over him. Do not talk bad about Charlie Morris-Larkin you will have not only his brothers to deal with, but also millions of fans who are absolutely feral

Henry starts off as a cooking channel. He gets so excited to try new things, and even more so when a fan suggests it. He'll ask about their favorite place to get it, or if there's anywhere good to buy it at all, or if he should just get together with someone to make it instead. He always invites said-fan to come and do the video with him and get to see him try it live and in person. There's very little he doesn't like.

Henry will bring in people from the culture (i.e. probably having someone from Elmer’s family if they’re trying pierogis, or Miss Medda if they’re trying something like gumbo (Medda Larkin is from the south and you can fight me on that), or they’ll call in Itey if they’re making an Italian dish) to kind of make sure he's not an idiot? They help explain where the dish comes from and what usually goes into it (Henry obv does research himself beforehand, but google def lies sometimes)

Itey's channel is called Earning Your Laurels and they use yt to help people learn the Italian language, and about the Italian culture. Just kinda rambles during videos. Everyone thinks it’s cute as fuck. Especially Snitch. They share the yt channel, and Snitch uses the time to practice his Italian. Is very bad at it for a long time, pretends to still be bad for a while (but practices in secret to surprise Itey), and makes Itey cry on camera when he tells them this super big, heartfelt confession when he tells them he loves them for the first time. They leave it in the video so everyone can see. The fans go absolutely nuts over it.

Jojo's channel is called JojoPlaysShit only because he couldn't think of anything when he first started, but now he's too attached to the name

Les and Mush have competing souvenir collections. It's an actual competition. There are rules.

Les can beat almost anyone in the group at their favorite games. He's just naturally talented.

Bob Ross style tutorials Except he’s pretty fucking terrible at everything he tries. He’ll do painting tutorials, sewing tutorials, cross stitch, knitting, crocheting, etc etc etc The only thing he learns before doing the tutorials is the basics. Like literally 'how to knit'. He doesn't look up patterns or anything, just how to get it started. It’s actually a motivation channel. To let people know it’s okay to not be perfect at everything. They’re allowed to just do things for fun. He tries paper mache and is surprisingly good at it. And just stares at his creation in utter fucking shock and is like ‘how tf did I do this???’ and his fans expect him to keep doing paper mache but he never does it on camera again. Or at least that’s the plan before a lot of them are like ‘why don’t you do it anymore? Why can’t we see this thing you’re good at?’ and Mike tries to explain that it kind of goes against the whole point of his channel and that he’s perfectly fine being bad at everything the public gets to see. The comment section of that video explodes with demands to see more.

Let’s Start a Fight: A conspiracy channel. Will connect anything to anything else. Also has a series that’s essentially a game show to pit his friends’ relationships against each other to see who has the most solid relationships. The thing is, the questions are entirely arbitrary and have nothing to do with the actual partnership. Some examples: Is Pluto a planet? Is a hotdog a sandwich? Which direction is toilet paper supposed to face? Is cereal a soup? Do you eat or drink soup? There’s at least one fistfight every episode. Only a few of them were staged. The winner isn’t determined by points or anything. The winner is the last couple standing. The last couple not arguing. Probably gets a tv or yt deal to make it an actual show.

I wanna turn it into an actual thing but I don't know enough people. So if anyone wants to help me make this a reality I will love you forever
