Unpopular opinion: There is no Link Click “trio.” It’s just the ShiGuang Duo + Qiao Ling

Now, before the Qiao Ling fans come after me, I just want to make it clear that I do not hate Qiao Ling. She’s a queen, and I love her. What I do hate, however, is the writers’ neglect of her character.

Warning: This will contain major Link Click season 1 and 2 spoilers.

Cheng Xiaoshi, Lu Guang, and Qiao Ling have been marketed as the main trio right from the OPs and EDs all the way to the different official artworks and PVs. But despite this, Qiao Ling has never been portrayed like a protagonist in the story itself. Her value has always been tied to some other character, and what’s sadder is that even as a supporting character, she’s still being neglected by the writers.

Cheng Xiaoshi and Lu Guang both have something in themselves that push the story forward. Cheng Xiaoshi’s recklessness in s1 is what gives tension to the dives and what leads to the overarching plot related to Emma. His planning in s2 also keeps the plot going. On the other hand, Lu Guang acts as the voice of reason, grounding the fantasy aspect of the show. His hypocrisy revealed in s2 also reshapes how we view the entire story.

But what about Qiao Ling?

Throughout most of season 1, she’s been kept in the dark about ShiGuang’s powers, which in turn excludes her from a big part of the story. In s1, it was only during the kidnapping arc that we see a bit more about her, but the focus wasn’t on her at all but on some random extra. And at the last episode when she finally gets to be in on the whole eye power thing, Li Tianchen possesses her, overshadowing Qiao Ling entirely and redirecting our attention and interest to him. (Extra: In season 1, between Qiao Ling and Emma, would you dare say Qiao Ling is the protagonist? I bet you won’t.)

Then in s2, despite Qiao Ling’s extra screen time and more involvement in the plot, the neglect of her character is even more palpable. She got possessed by a murderer, nearly killed her friend, and even tried to stab her own brother, but even after all these, we barely get to see how she had to process everything.

It’s really no surprise many people loved this scene:

This, for me, is the one time, the ONE time Qiao Ling is portrayed as a character on equal grounds with Cheng Xiaoshi and Lu Guang. If Link Click were a sports anime, this would be the scene where she discards her role as the female manager over a bunch of male athletes and expresses her desire to become a player as well.

But unfortunately, after this episode, Qiao Ling is once again pushed to the sidelines. She’s a player now, yes, but a player who’s just being pushed along the game. She may take the initiative in some things (like talking to Li Tianxi), but even then, the things she do are all still just to help her friends. You know, like a supporting character. None of what she’s doing is for herself alone. (If any Blue Lock fans are reading this, Qiao Ling has no “ego,” so to speak.)

Qiao Ling has no goals of her own, and this is how the writers failed her.

All the other major characters have their own goals. Heck, even the antagonists are more like protagonists than Qiao Ling.

Cheng Xiaoshi wants to find his parents. And he also just wants to help the people he meets in dives

Lu Guang selfishly broke the rules of time travel just to keep one man alive and will do it again if he must

Li Tianxi betrays her brother and Qian Jin just to find a way home

Li Tianchen approaches ShiGuang and later kidnaps Cheng Xiaoshi because he also wants to go home

And Liu Xiao wants to, I don’t know, change the rules of time and space entirely?

God, writing that last bullet makes me realize that even Liu Xiao, who only showed up in the last episode of season 2, has more weight in the story than Qiao Ling. This is ridiculous.

Seriously, what is Qiao Ling even here for??? Play big sister???

Just market her as a supporting character. It’s fine. She’s still badass.

I also don’t have much hopes over how she will be in season 3 because of how season 2 ended. Qiao Ling seeing Lu Guang’s memories means her worth in s3 will inevitably be tied to this secret. It’s the s1 ending all over again. At the end of s1, her worth was tied to the mysterious Red Eyes. At the end of s2, it’s tied to Lu Guang.

If the Link Click writers are gonna keep pushing her as a protagonist, then they better start treating her like one!

It’s not enough to just give Qiao Ling a goal, by the way (although it is very important too). She must also become a player who has the power to control how the game goes. If she ends up inheriting Li Tianxi’s powers, as many theories have said, then may the drama around her not be focused on how she may leak Lu Guang’s secret at any time.

I don’t know what she could do with her powers, but I think it would be very interesting if she ends up opposing Lu Guang.

Lu Guang wants to keep Cheng Xiaoshi alive, but...

...he’s no longer alive. The Cheng Xiaoshi we see is just a glimpse of the past...

What if… as Qiao Ling sees more of Lu Guang’s memories, she sees more of the real Cheng Xiaoshi and suddenly… wants to let go… wants to move on?

The fandom have talked a lot about how ShiGuang may react once the secret is out. But what about how Qiao Ling would react to it over time as she realizes those memories weren’t just her overthinking things?

In season 1, she couldn’t bear to face that kid’s father for years, and at the end of s2, she couldn’t bear to confront Lu Guang… In s3, how long can she bear looking at her dead brother?

The chances of her “giving up” Cheng Xiaoshi and returning to the original timeline is slim, though. I’m just giving an example of how she can be more like a protagonist.

Anyways, I’ll end here… I still have so many thoughts, but I can’t figure out how to organize them. This has also been in my drafts for over two weeks and I just want to post it already!

Premiere Season is upon us again! And as always, there is too much goddamn anime to watch. I’m still waiting on Oshi no Ko, Uma Musume S3, Sacrificial Princess and the Ranking of Kings OVA, and my schedule is already stuffed. This is gonna be a heck of a spring season.

Ancient Magus Bride Season 2: Is this the first studio Wit anime to get an animation upgrade after leaving for a different studio?

PAIRING. Daryl Dixon x You/Reader.

ALTERNATIVE UNIVERSE. This oneshot covers the Walking Dead AU. It will take place during the Prison Era before everything went to shit because of the Governor.

SYNOPSIS. You are considered reliable when it comes to important things such as killing walkers outside, joining a raid party, and others. So why exactly is Daryl suddenly forbidding you to join a mission to act as a bodyguard for Rick?

AUTHOR’S NOTES. Yalls i know walking dead is like years ago, but I am back at my Daryl Dixon era so liek why not make a fanfic to satisfy my heart ukuk? There are mentions of kissing, but not those steamy scenes you guys will expect.

Daryl is many things — he’s rough, skilled, reliable, considerate and many other things. That’s why you would never understand why he would suddenly suggest for you to not go to the place where the Governor and Rick will speak. He was never like this before, well maybe the first time you met the group. The first time you’ve met them was during Winter. You were camping alone in a house when you saw them barging into the house you were camping in.

Let’s just say there was a lot of integration.

But the point is, you never thought Daryl would be this paranoid again for him to not allow you to join the talk between Rick and the Governor. Is he cautious of you again? Just like before? You understand why he would be paranoid before, but why did it happen again now?

“You’re still thinking about it, aren’t you?” Maggie suddenly appeared on the side, holding her rifle down as she slowly walked towards you.

You looked at her squinting eyes due to the blazing rays of the sun. All you could do is nod at her question. “I just don’t know why he would do something like this….are you guys wary of me again?”

Maggie didn’t want to assume it, but she can’t also believe that you would be this blind. The farmer has seen the way Daryl would follow her like an animal with his gaze. Heck, everyone in the Prison — even Carl, noticed the way Daryl would just stare at you.

Maggie decided to give the poor oblivious girl a hint. “We aren’t wary of you. Rather, your presence alone has made someone extra attentive.”

“You’re saying Daryl hates me, that's why he’s like this?” You concluded, pupils tearing up at the thought.

OPPOSITE OF THAT! Maggie wanted to shout that, but she stopped herself from revealing Daryl’s secret crush.

“Oh good heavens no! He doesn’t! Try to think! C’mon! You can do it!” Maggie was practically begging to use all your smartass braincells to see right through her.

“Maggie, what are you even talking about?” You began to ask her, getting a bit frustrated that she’s giving you some riddles instead of getting an answer.

“Oh for fuck’s sake! Daryl l—Maggie!! Please help me with this!” She was interrupted by Carol holding a heavy box.

Maggie was never this annoyed at Carol before. But because she’s older than her, she had to obey which leaves you confused. The farmer jogged towards Carol while holding her rifle properly. “Carol, why did you have to call me? I was about to—tell her that Daryl’s puppy love with her?” Carol smiled, finishing Maggie’s sentence.

Maggie’s annoyed expression diminished a bit with her playful tone. “So why did you stop me then?” She had to ask with a hint of irritation.

Carol playfully grinned. “C’mon now. It’s been a while since something exciting like this happened!! To think it’s even about Daryl’s love life! It’s like those shows I used to watch whenever Ed’s not around!”

“Except this show is happening in real life,” Maggie smirked in astonishment.

Carol smiled. “Now you’re at my level! Now just stay quiet, and just let him…” The latter turned her head to the tower to see Daryl watching you like a hawk. “…do all the talking.”

Maggie chuckled, turning to the direction of where Daryl is currently staying. “You know. From this perspective, he looks like a creep,” She pointed out.

“If there was no zombie apocalypse, Daryl might be mistaken as a pedophile because [name] looks really young to be in her late thirties,” Carol added as she started walking back inside with Maggie.

“I know right?” Maggie smiled, walking with Carol as she turned her head to still see the archer following you with his eyes.

As the two women are laughing at their jokes, Daryl can hear every word they are saying. He couldn’t get annoyed at their jokes because their words spoke facts. The hunter tilted his head a bit, following your movements as you stab the walkers through the fences.

Months ago, Daryl knew something was wrong with him. Deep down his rough personality, he knew that you have some kind of effect on him. The moment he saw you for the first time was something he will never forget. Your entire body glowed under the moonlight passing through the window of the house. He remembered how he lowered down his bow as he noticed a shimmering flame from the camp fire through your eyes.

Therefore ever since you came to the group, his eyes would always find you. Sometimes, he didn’t even notice that he was staring at you — it’s almost him staring at you is a habit for him to do so.

At first, he didn’t know what this feeling was till his buddy, Rick, pointed it out. He remembered how Rick kept giving scenarios he witnessed to prove that Daryl likes you. Rick’s most favorite memory was when Daryl was cleaning his dagger as he walked while staring at you intensely. He looked at you with such eyes that he bumped into the wall, dropping his dagger to the ground.

Everyone in the prison witnessed this so it was hard to hold in their laughter. They almost even let it out when you saw the entire bumping scene.

“Daryl,” Someone from behind him called him. The hunter turned his face around to see Glenn.

The archer can only lift his head in a fast motion as he said, “Sup’ China man.”

Glenn rolled his eyes, feeling offended. “I’m Korean.”

Daryl chuckled, looking down on the ground for a moment. “Mhm. I know. Just bringin’ the good ol’ days, ya know?”

“Yeahhhh,,,being called China man is not exactly in my good old days book,” Glenn pointed out, walking towards him as he leaned his elbows onto the railing — copying Daryl.

“I’m guessing the reason why you are here is because of her, right?” Glenn asked, looking around the prison field as he felt Daryl stop moving.

“Ya knew?” He asked.

“Did I—?!?! Glenn scoffed playfully, “OF COURSE I KNEW!”

Daryl was taken back by his sudden outburst, genuinely not expecting the fact he got angry like this.

“You know, the fact that you’re giving me that confused look is pissing me off even more,” Glenn angrily confessed.

“…what?” He asked in bafflement.

“Oh for fuck’s sake—! You better tell her how you feel! Oh don’t get me started on the I’m afraid she’ll not accept me or the She deserves better than me lines! What gives you the right to assume what she wants, huh?!? That’s why you better man up, and fucking tell her how you feel! We’re already in an apocalypse as it is! So might as well live the best time of your life! That’s why tell her how you feel right now,” Glenn panted heavily, saying all the points he’s been wanting to say this entire time.

Daryl only stared at him with a numb look. The hunter already knew that — it’s just that what scares him right now is he might not be able to give you what you want. Even if you like him back and start a relationship, how can he ensure that he is doing well as a lover? All his life is about abuse from his father; thus, he did not grow with and out of love.

With his brother, Merle, it’s a different type of love — a brotherly bonding is maybe what you call it. But Merle has never given him the love you see in siblings. The douche left him to join the military to get away from their father for fuck’s sake.

In short, he never knew what it’s like to love someone. Therefore, he is scared that he will do something wrong when he’s in a relationship with you.

So before Daryl could reply to Glenn’s opinion, a sudden voice interrupted him. “Hate to break it to yall, but Rick needs us in the cell for some kind of meeting,” Maggie said, arching her brow at the tension between the two.

“Darly. Please don’t mind, Glenn. He’s just sexually frustrated at the moment since you took the only make out spot we’ve got where no one can interrupt us,” Maggie playfully teased, causing Glenn to blush in panic as he began to stutter for a bunch of reasons.

Daryl can only chuckle lightly, leaving the couple alone with their moment. He exited the tower quickly, making his way to the cell to see everyone in their place. Of course, the hunter spotted you first — you were sitting down on the stairs that connects to the second floor of the prison cell.

Minutes later, Glenn and Maggie followed; the two stayed standing with their arms linked together. This sight alone caused Daryl to feel a bit of envy since he also wanted to try doing that with you.

“As you all know, Andrea has called for some kind of meeting, a peace treaty to ensure there will be no fighting. All this to keep our people safe,” Rick reminded the group, crossing his arms as he walked around to build that momentum.

“Daryl, Hershel, [Name], I need you three to come with me to the place where Andrea told us to meet.” Those words alone caused Daryl to ignite in fury.

The hunter walked towards Rick with his frowning eyebrows, getting annoyed by the minute. “Didn’ I said that the girl stays here?” Daryl screamed in anger, walking away from the wall he was leaning at.

“Daryl, you need to cal—don’ tell me to calm down! You fucking promised!” Rick’s collar was grabbed by an angry Daryl.

Now, it was your turn to blaze in anger so you stomped your way to Daryl. You didn’t hesitate to push him, causing him to let go of Rick in shock. “What the damn fuck is your problem, huh? Why are you suddenly so wary of me? The fuck did I ever do to you?”

The hunter realized what he did so he composed himself first before speaking. “If I said yer stayin’, then ya better keep yer ass here,” Daryl spat out harshly, not holding back his emotions right now.

Your eyebrow twitched in anger. Your head tilted to the side as your jaw clenched in rage. “The fuck you said?”

Meanwhile, their audience just watched in amusement, waiting for the moment where one of them will just confess out of the blue. Turns out, the group planned this to happen with the help of Carol’s creative plan. The group knew that they wanted some entertainment before the storm. So they decided to trigger something in the tension between Daryl and you.

“Bet on my canned foods that [name] confesses first,” Carol whispers to Rick, causing him to smile.

“Bet on my amno that Daryl will kiss her,” Rick cockily grins.

“You’re on!” Carol laughed.

“I’m just here for the drama,” Hershel just adds with a chuckle.

“I still can’t believe that you guys find this amusing,” Carl says with a hint of confusion.

“Why can’t ya just listen to a word I just said, girl!” Daryl screamed, getting frustrated at why you can’t just listen to him for once.

“What about you! You don’t even answer my fucking questions! Why are you like this? Can you just tell me where I went wrong so we can fix this?” You spoke back, hoping to hear answers.

“For fuck’s sakes, woman! Why are you so complicated for me?” Daryl snapped, silencing everyone with his tone.

Your pupils widen as they quiver, feeling them getting wet by the second. “You’ve got to be kidding me, Daryl.” You sniffled, fighting yourself to hold back your tears.

“You’re the one that’s complicated! I can’t fucking believe I like you!” You suddenly screamed, not realizing you already confessed. Meanwhile, Carol nudges Rick with her shoulders, signaling him to do his side on the bet they made together.

Daryl couldn’g believe his ears. There’s no way you said that. T-There’s absolutely no way… “W-Whatchu just said?”

After what just happened, your brain finally processed what you did. You mentally cursed at your mouth for slipping the one secret you didn't want him to know. The flames on your cheeks started to increase as the minutes passed by.

Suddenly, Daryl called you. Your body hair just jolted up when you heard how fucking nice yoor name sounds out of his mouth. And fuck, he’s staring at you intensely — just like those other moments you accidentally caught him staring at you. That intense gaze of his is making your legs wobble a bit as you begin to shake for some reason.

It’s like a predator eyeing its prey.

“U-Uhhhh,,,I still stand what I said! I’m going Daryl! And you ain’t stopping m—” You stopped talking when he grabbed your face harshly and crashed his lips into yours.

A series of gasps mimicked in the background as you and Daryl were stuck in their own world, not caring about anything else except each other's warmth through their lips. You were definitely shocked, hence why you stood there like an idiot. However, his lips moved with so much passion so it snapped you back to reality.

The kiss was messy, but the fact that it was coming from your crush makes your legs begin to wobble at the pleasurable sensation. His hands held your face tighter and closer to his face, feeling the warmth of his body even more. Due to the height difference, him pulling you closer to his face is causing you to tip to your toes.

Daryl would continue to go on with this, but his lungs scream of oxygen so he sadly needs to pull back. With a heavy pant, he connected his forehead to yours as he stared down at you. He waited for a moment to catch his breath again then spoke, “Yer staying here, girl. You ain’t comin’ with us. I can’t afford to lose you.”

With his hands still on your head, you brought your hand up to place your hand on top of his. You leaned towards that hand as you rubbed his rough skin in circles, causing his stomach to feel things.

“I ain’t stayin’ here cuz I can’t also afford to lose ya, lover boy.”

“YES! WE GOT OUR MAKE OUT SPOT BACK!”

“Glenn. I swear to bacons. Shut your mouth.”

So I saw a post you made a long time ago of hs shennanigans and there was one idea where hs Sammy went on vacation and during the time he wasn't at the studio, it was chaos at the studio as the ink was searching for a new victim to be it's new "lightning rod" I found that so funny XD I ain't sure if you take requests but it'd be hilarious to see some small/short fic out of it!

(I've pretty much never stopped taking requests, it's just that I haven't gotten a lot of them lately.)

It didn't start with a flood, but an obnoxious and persistent dripping. Minor inconveniences; a puddle of ink that made itself known only after the Janitor put his mop and bucket away, a pipe that broke the second the one across from it was fixed by the mechanic, a frame that had to be redrawn by the artist because a certain imp swapped the normal pens with black ink for pens that wrote in pink, sparkly, strawberry-scented ink...

Things that normal people in a normal animation studio would dismiss as a normal day with a bit of bad luck. Things that at first, the normal and abnormal people in the VERY abnormal animation studio dismissed as a normal day with bad luck...

...Until Joey looked at the calendar and paled in horror.

"IT'S JUNE 15TH!" He shouted at the top of his lungs while barging into as many rooms as quickly as he could, attempting to warn as many as possible. "EVERYBODY! IT'S JUNE 15TH! RUN AND HIDE WHILE YOU STILL CAN!"

"Joey, deep breaths..." The animator put his hand on his boss's shoulder in an attempt to steady him. "What's the problem with June 15th? I thought that the Inspectors were coming over on July 15th."

"Henry! The inspectors are nothing compared to this!" Joey exclaimed. "June 15th is the first day Sammy's left for his vacation!"

"Ooookay..?" Henry looked at the worried man, blinking owlishly as he still didn't grasp the severity of this dire situation.

"So? The Banjo man's out for a few days, big whoop." Bendy shrugged nonchalantly with an eye roll as he hopped over Henry's desk. "It's not like we have any tight deadlines on songs or anything, and even if we did, Mr. Fain's not *that* bad of a songwriter in his own right, so what's all the shouting and running around for?"

"It's..." Joey looked around and gestured the two to come close, as Henry and Bendy humored him, he whispered to the both of them. "The I-N-K..."

"Oh ^$@!ing son of a @*$%# we're completely #$@&ed..." Bendy's eyes went as wide as dinner plates before shaking his head and glaring at the loony cultist. "WHY DIDNTCHA SAY ANYTHING ABOUT THIS SOONER?! WE COULD'VE SENT LETTERS WARNING PEOPLE!"

"It completely slipped my mind!"

"Oh geez... well too late now..."

Bendy rubbed his temples in an over-exaggerated fashion while Henry stayed calm on the surface.

"Guys, I think we just need to stay calm and not feed into it. It does like it when people freak out, so if everyone pretends everything is normal, it won't mess with anyone. It works just like the toon logic thing where you only fall when you look down."

"Henry, that's only how it worked before we hired Sammy." Joey started to explain "But when it messed with him, he messed back and it had fun so now it gets bored and 'lonely' when he's gone, and when it gets bored and lonely, it tries to find someone to fill the void Sammy leaves, someone who has the same 'angry-spiteful' reaction to its antics, and to do that it starts causing problems ranging from mildly annoying to-"

SPLOOSH!

"...Destructive..."

"DANG IT! I *JUST* MOPPED DAT FLOOR!"

Wally shouted from right outside Henry's office door, prompting the three of them to peek out and see him confronting Thomas.

"I THOUGHT YA SAID YOU'D FIX DIS DANG THING!" The janitor rapped the broken pipe with the handle of his ink-soaked mop. "WHAT THE HECK IS ALL OF THIS?!"

"I FIXED THAT DAMN PIPE FIVE GODFORSAKEN MINUTES AGO! IF *YOU* WEREN'T KNOCKING THINGS OVER AND HITTING ALL OF THEM WITH MOPS AND BROOMS, *I* WOULDN'T NEED TO SPEND ALL MY TIME RUNNING AROUND FIXING EVERY PIPE YOU MANAGE TO BREAK!"

"WELL MAYBE THEY WOULDN'T BREAK EVERY TEN SECONDS IF YA USED SOMETHING STRONGER THAN TINFOIL! I'VE USED STRAWS STRONGER THAN YER PIPES!"

So Here's The Thing About Elemental

If you're somebody who's watched a lot of movies than me, you would probably look at this and tell me that there are more stories out there--animated or otherwise--that do a better job at portraying certain aspects. Specifically the immigrant experience.

And the truth is, you'd be right.

Elemental doesn't try to set a new gold standard nor do I think it's meant to do that. Heck, some could look at Pixar's backlog and argue that Turning Red does it the best--which definitely isn't a knockback make no mistake. (Not only that but Flee is also on my watchlist).

HOWEVER

It's the small things in Elemental that make it speak to me.

Having a 1st gen immigrant parent and being mixed myself, it's hard not to look at Wade and Ember and see yourself in both of them.

On the outside I live comfortably, yet I struggle internally. Job wise I feel directionless, but I still take pride in my work. I'm a people person, but I can have a hard time communicating with others. I'm opened about my feelings, yet I tend to keep them inside so often.

That's the thing about art.

It doesn't really matter what it is as long as it speaks to you on a personal level.

If you're on the fence, I would say check it out and see what you think. You may never know what you might expect.

Other Minor Stuff:

-I would highly recommend listening to Thomas Newman's movie score in isolation.

-I also enjoyed the short, Carl's Date. It left me feeling bittersweet since this was Ed Asner's last ever voice recording before he passed away.

-Like many others had said, the marketing for this movie did not do it any favors. Instead of focusing all their attention on the romance, they primarily did all their advertising on Clod, a character who only showed up for a total of 3 scenes. Can't even say he's a supporting character either because he doesn't stick around with the duo. Even Gale at least had some sort of importance by helping them out.

-This movie is also gaining a big following in Korea. You should definitely check out the Elemental hashtag on Twitter to see what I mean.

Growlithe & Arcanine

Growlithe (#058)

Ignuscanis ignuscanis domesticus ([OG] Growlithe)

Ignuscanis ignuscanis ceroferus ([H] Growlithe)

General Information: The Scout/Puppy Pokémon, Growlithe is a much-beloved fire-type Pokémon with a powerful sense of smell and an impeccable memory for remembering smells. Be careful though, because a particularly pungent and horrid smell will knock out a Growlithe’s sniffer for several days!

Growlithes have two official regional forms: the (OG) Growlithe and the (H) Growlithe. (OG) Growlithe averages at 2’4 feet tall (0.7 M) and 41.9 pounds (19) kg, and (H) Growlithe is slightly larger at 2’7 feet tall (0.8 M) and 50 pounds (22.7 kg).

Careful, the horns on (H) Growlithe are quite breakable!

Habitat: Growlithes are most commonly found in grassland environments around Europe and Asia. They can be found in highland regions, though they tend to stick to the steppes. Growlithes can be found in sparse forests and savannahs, but they are most comfortable in grasslands. Of course, Growlithes are found in pretty much any urban center in Eurasia and most of the world thanks to humans.

Life Cycles: Growlithes are dogs. They have dog life cycles. A captive Growlithe will live for about 20 years and reach reproductive maturity at 2 years old (and level 15). Adults enter estrus throughout the year, though in the wild it tends to occur during the winter. Pups (litters of 3-4) will be born in the mid Spring, and juveniles start being able to hunt and contribute to the pack around the onset of winter.

Growlithes follow the migrations of grassland herbivores, including reindeer (Stantler, Wyrdeer). There is no difference in life cycle between the two regional forms.

Behavior: Growlithes are hypersocial animals that form small to large packs with other Growlithes and Arcanines. They hunt in groups, though Growlithes will usually focus on smaller prey like Deerling while Arcanines focus on Sawsbucks or Wyrdeer. They are also incredibly territorial, meaning they will battle any territory dispute that they even think that they can win. They are fiercely protective and loyal to their pack, and pups are raised communally. There is no true hierarchy, other than Arcanines are bigger, faster, stronger, and wiser than Growlithes, and of course children listen to their parents. While the two parts of the packs tend to hunt different things, the combined efforts of both ensure that everyone is fed. Growlithes learn from the Arcanines in the pack, and in smaller packs with fewer Arcanines, there is more likely to be co-ed hunting parties.

(H) Growlithes in particular have a different approach to cooperation, and will form pairs of watchdogs over anything that they need to guard. They are highly social with each other, but with humans (H) Growlithes are significantly less domesticated than (OG) Growlithes, and can be difficult to tame.

Diet: Meat. Growlithes are carnivores. While specifically (OG) Growlithe has been selectively bred over the millennia to have a more omnivorous diet to tolerate grains and root vegetables, (H) Growlithe has not had these selective pressures from humans and retains its full carnivory. Yes, I know your Growlithe is giving you its best Baby-Doll Eyes, and no, you really shouldn’t give it the cheeseburger in your hand… ah, what the heck, have at it!

Conservation: Endangered ([H] Growlithe), Least Concern ([OG] Growlithe)

Relationship with Humans: Growlithes have an incredibly long history of cooperation with humans, with fossils that date all the way back into the Ice Age. They have been one of humanity’s earliest hunting companions, right alongside other Dog Pokémon and Eevee. Their fierce loyalty is a valued trait that sees them in the service of humans since time immemorial, and their intelligence makes them incredibly useful in all facets of civilization. They make top-notch service dogs, therapy dogs, they’re excellent with children, they make great starter Pokémon, and they’re great to train. Growlithe is the dog among dogs, matched in love only by Lillipups and Eevees. Security forces, detectives, and search-and-rescue parties utilize Growlithes for their keen senses of smell.

In media, Growlithes proliferate alongside Lillipups. A good rule of thumb, is that in media produced by Europe or Asia, it’ll be Growlithes/Arcanines as the stand-in dogs, and in the United States and Canada, it’ll be Lillipups/Herdiers/Stoutlands.

Growlithes make excellent starter Pokémon, but they are considered an exotic species in the Western hemisphere, and only Certified Breeders are allowed to breed them (if at all). This does not stop black markets and feral populations from running amok, but the illegality of Growlithe breeding is one of many conservation efforts in place to punish animal abusers and keep breeding populations strictly in captivity.

Mechanics Reminder: Many excellent breeders will be happy to provide a Growlithe for your North American child, but remember that these Growlithes will be fully sterilized. The failure to do so could result in a huge fine on the part of the breeder.

(H) Growlithes have a different relationship with humanity. While they are certainly cute, they are shy and wary of humans. Scientists speculate that the proto-(OG) Growlithes were a separate lineage from the one that became the (H) Growlithes, and it’s possible that sub-speciation had already occurred within the Growlithes by the time humans began domestication.

Classification: Growlithe is in the genus Ignuscanis which means “fire dog.”

Arcanine (#059)

Ignuscanis agrestis domesticus ([OG] Arcanine) Ignuscanis agrestis ceroferus ([H] Arcanine)

General Information: Arcanines are the evolved form of Growlithe! Their immense speed and agility is powered by an internal flame that burns constantly. They are capable of running three hundred miles in a single day if given the right motivation.

(OG) Arcanines average at 6'3 feet tall (1.9 M) and 341.7 pounds (155 kg), and (H) Arcanines are 6'7 feet tall (2.0 M) and 370.4 pounds (168 kg).

Habitat: Arcanines are found in the same places as Growlithes.

Life Cycles: Arcanines are just Really Big Dogs with dog life cycles, however a key difference between itself and Growlithe is that Arcanines are known to live an average of 35 years in captivity.

Behavior: There are not many Arcanines in the wild, since they require a Fire Stone to evolve, but those that do exist are fierce protectors of their packs. They are incredibly fast, but do not mistake their ability to run far and fast as an ability to maintain that all the time. A long run or quick sprint still wears out an Arcanine, and such extreme endeavors should be reserved for hunting or fleeing danger.

Diet: (OG) Arcanines are carnivores with a tolerance for an omnivorous diet courtesy of human domestication. (H) Arcanines do not have this trait, and are pure carnivores that only occasionally consume berries or leaves for digestive purposes. Trainers, purchasing some dog food from the store should suffice for your (OG) Arcanine, but perhaps a more intensive meat-focused diet for your (H) Arcanine. Actually, your (OG) Arcanine would love that, too!

Conservation: Endangered ([H] Growlithe), Least Concern ([OG] Growlithe)

Relationship with Humans: Arcanines have been the subject of awe and wonder for a thousand generations. They are beasts of legend and myth, creatures that can run a thousand miles across the globe in a single day. Many cultures use them as signifiers of protection and good luck. Even (H) Arcanines, who are wild and free of human domestication, are still seen as loyal protectors, given the same reverence as (OG) Arcanines. In parts of Eastern Asia, Arcanines and Growlithes are depicted in statues in front of homes and temples as protectors.

In modern media, (OG) Arcanines are primarily the fierce defenders of townships and households, or the majestic creatures that glide across grasslands at breathtaking speeds.

(OG) Arcanines serve many functions in human society, from companionship to hunting, herding to childcare, service dogs to therapy dogs, Rangering to dragon hunting. In contrast, (H) Arcanines are not depicted nearly as much in media, often going unknown to the general populace, though make good companions, too, once they have warmed up to their trainer.

Classification: Arcanines are given the species epithet “agrestis” meaning “wild.” (OG) Arcanine has the sub-species modifier “domesticus” while (H) Arcanine has “ceroferus.” In combination, (H) Arcanine’s species name means “horned, wild, fire dog.”

Evolution: Arcanines evolve from Growlithe with a Fire Stone or other equivalent magical source.

Okay first batch of episode thoughts that I don’t know that I can expand into real coherent thoughts so heck it we’re doing it live and cramming them together, no chronology just memory vibes, PART ONE:

- the visceral physicality of that hug on the beach. Hot.

- The way dream Ed keeps repeating phrases but trying new pet names. Additionally: the tears in Stede’s eyes when he first hears Ed calling his name

- Swede being the new husband: fair. Makes sense. Farewell, fond thoughts of unexpected dreamboat Buttons.

- I WANT TO KNOW ABOUT ED’S UNLICENSED MIDWIFERY

- Zheng Yi Sao’s reveal from soup lady to Pirate Queen. Never been another like it.

- Zheng and Auntie have a dynamic that reminds me of a much healthier and better adjusted Ed and Izzy—Auntie calls Zheng out for getting distracted by Olu but doesn’t stop her or interfere, Auntie is the harsh voice of Zheng’s orders and her enforcer with the crew but isn’t cruel, and Auntie clearly respects the hell out of Zheng and supports what she built with her piracy career, and actively helps her and is respected in turn by Zheng. Take what a captain and a first mate are supposed to be like, and bring a flavor of Stede’s people-positive management style without the naive condescension. Competent and thriving. We love to see it.

- Okay but can we get a recipe of the noodle soup bc that looked genuinely so good

- Frenchie is a cat. He’s being a cat. He’s a cAT—

- Fic writers who called bitchy teenage anger Lucius aimed at Stede, take a bow, you’re the MVPs. (And sweet sweet farewells to the many headcanons of Lucius living in the walls of the Revenge as a ghost, but girlie you did not need to be there and that’s for the best)

- Frenchie is so intelligent though. And sneaky.

- Been wondering too if Ed’s impossible bird is a reference to something existing, or something made up for the show, but keep forgetting to Google it. Keep seeing references to albatrosses, which tracks and I’m okay with letting that be the extent of it for now.

- I’m telling you, either Buttons IS the rabbit, or the whole crew is gonna THINK Buttons is the rabbit. Auntie gives him a document about transforming into animals, and in later episodes Ed is wearing Buttons’ shirt and there’s a rabbit??? Buttons has something to do with this.

- The garlic and finger crosses are deffo gonna be aimed at Ed in upcoming episodes. Can feel it. Also wondering where exactly Jim brought down the cannonball for Ed to survive it—AND ALSO HEY YALL THINK CALICO JACK SURVIVED HIS OR—

- Listen I can’t think for too long about the mermaid sequence or imma cry but SWEET LOVING GOLDFISH ;A;

- Also if they don’t make a Rick Roll joke or reference with Prince Ricky then what is the POINT of him

- Also points to us for being pretty sure he ran into Spanish Jackie; you never want to assume but when a guy shows up in this universe without a nose…

- Wondering about the symbolism of the pig in Ed’s Limbo

- Also finding grim humor in how Ed’s vision of Hornigold had to force the nutrition down his throat. Not at all metaphorical and layered.

- Black Pete being honest and not taking the shot. Go you, Black Pete. Not letting your ego talk yourself into irreparable trouble.

- I love Archie. I want more with Archie. Can’t wait for Jim to get good use out of having two hands for more than hyper competent murder. Hyper competent cuddling of their exceptional partners.

- Olu pronouncing eucalyptus. I want to bottle it for a rainy day. Also he’s so sweet the entire time they’re on Zheng’s ship. Love him. Oh captain my captain.

- And…the original rat man in the room. Izzy caring about the crew all of a sudden feels fast but tbh there’s been a time skip and Izzy is fighting an uphill battle with the consequences of his actions; I’m inclined to give the season a bit of leeway and see where it goes. Can’t get into too much detail or I’ll derail this whole thing trying to decode him and I don’t want to.

- I KNEW THE PROMO PIC OF PETE LOOKING EXCITED WAS HIM SEEING LUCIUS. I CALLED IT. IN MY MIND.

- also called that old guy in ropes was Hornigold. Nice.

- I got distracted and made another post about Ed really taking the long way around this whole suicide thing but my heart just drops every time I look at how he CHOPPED OFF THE WHEEL. THAT THING LOOKED SO SOLID. ED YOU TAKE THE AXE OUT AT THE WRONG ANGLE TOO HARD AND YOU COULD HURT YOURSELF PLENTY.

- Okay also aside for how I was NOT expecting either Ed’s prettiest babygirl look to be at his most unhinged, and I was NOT prepared for Ed shooting Izzy in the leg to be the thing that made Izzy lose the leg.

- Like seriously, I figured losing the leg was going to be a metaphor for Izzy cutting out the worst and most toxic bits of himself, the pieces literally rotting away and killing him with them, the toxic masculinity and the homophobia and the racism and such—but not quite like THAT XD and it’s way more a metaphor for him being forced to let go of his relationship with Blackbeard before it kills him, which is better and less comprehensive anyway.

- The way I flinched a mile when Ed shot him though. Just wasn’t expecting it.

- And the way Jim is sticking up for Izzy. The whole thing with them and Fang and Frenchie—I’ll put this up from one of my many failed Izzy essays, their treatment of him has nothing to do with Izzy and everything to do with them as people. Their choice to fight for a better ship atmosphere. Because love and forgiveness have fuckall to do with how much either party DESERVES those things and everything to do with whether they’re WILLING TO ACCEPT THEM. Love is redeeming and transformative but it takes work, babes.

- Izzy just happens to be the recipient of their reaching. And he might just be tenderized enough to let it start getting to him. But we will see.

- Ed’s suicidal tendencies and his will to live and hope versus his belief in his own unlovable nature has been covered so much and so much more eloquently. But it bears repeating that I knew I was going to fall in love with this show when Stede was shown to be passively suicidal, and then later Ed was too. Maybe I’ll make a fuller post about it later, but. That just means so much to me personally. And while the visceral hurt and drama of Ed’s journey is a step beyond me…I get it. I love how it was handled. Looking forward to seeing how it progresses.

- STEDE BELLYFLOPS OFF A SHIP TO GET TO ED. MY BELOVED GOLDEN RETRIEVER.

- Stede’s continual cold dismissal and refusal to engage with Izzy. Character growth. Delicious drama.

- I sincerely hope Zheng Yi Sao accomplishes her piratical takeover. And I hope some sort of truce with the Revenge can be reached, bc yeesh. What a way to get out of an admittedly not great situation with an objectively great character.

- It’s so weird bc like. It’s baseline a historical show. We know that the golden age of piracy ended and not well for the pirates. But they’re already throwing actual hard facts and reality out the window. So it makes things like a Chinese pirate taking over the Caribbean feel way more plausible. I’m excited to see what happens with the larger scope of the show as well as the smaller emotional focus.

I wasn't expecting watching madoka magica to make me remember all this time I spent watching animes.

100% forgot to keep my watched-anime's op/ed playlist up to date.

RIP deleted videos that were the only trace of whatever I watched after I lost that bloc-note text file that I used as a back-up some time after I started losing interest in anime and noticed some of the openings had been deleted.

Big up to Black Bullet for making me discover nightcore and me thinking people were just going too far to avoid copyright.

C³ too, for making me love bloody lolis, and having this banger of an OP

Akame Ga Kill for being among the last animes I watched in that "phase" but probably one that I loved the most.

Lucky Star, because it's a crime how late I discovered it. (like 2018-2019)

Kubikiri Cycle, I keep remembering it everytime I get into one of those rememberance moments.

I'd need to take a day or two on a anime website and search one by one every anime that came out before 2017 at the very most, but right now I'm marking it all here:

because it's easier to find things there than on a youtube playlist that's half deleted/private videos.

I hope some people will find something to watch because so many of them were soooo good in my mind.

Also, considering what anime I remember and the theme I was going for, I don't know why the heck it took me so long to find the queer community.

And since I've yet to put it there, my most fav anime ever is Harmony, a movie from the Project Itoh.

Best Movie I've ever watched.

Damn, this thing went from "This anime made me remember a part of my past I forgot about" to "I really liked those animes, even did this in the past, what it'd become?" to "Please, those times were awesome, I wanna share it again"

Yeah, the entirety of dublith comes off way more differently in fmab than in the manga, and greed and Izumi are definitely the ones who suffered for that.

That scene you’re talking about is a good one! It really made no sense that the entire fight with ling and lan fan vs envy and gluttony was cut? Like, it’s kind of a big deal for them and their quest, but it’s also important for the homunculi because they’re encountering strong foreign warriors getting in the way of their plans to the point that they couldn’t back up lust which led to her dying? I think the thing about that fight I think the most about is when ling is running from gluttony and asking lan fan to toss him his sword. Something about that image is great to me. I do agree though with the whole visible sag of relief that the big bad homunculi are gone and the sort of “what the heck have I really gotten myself into” kinda mood from the usual chill vibe ling.

My favorite scene though is a bit earlier than that. They had a few more scenes in rush valley than just the fight, but the manga also had part of the train ride from rush valley to central and that’s where ling explains fu and lan fan are from a family that’s served his clan for generations. Edward tries to tease him in that whole “oh you’re too chicken to go traveling without your personal retainers” kind of way and there’s just something about ling responding that it’s dangerous for a kid to travel alone and that he’s fifteen that gets me every time. On a more serious note, another scene of ling’s I like from rush valley is after he has his whole “I can’t afford to be worried about appearances” chat with fu and lan fan, he actually has a few panels where he’s internally thinking that something definitely senses off about the country of amestris. Also feels like that was important and shouldn’t have been cut but. Studio bones.

I CAN'T BELIEVE THAT THEY DID SO WRONG GREED IN BROTHERHOOD. I'm waiting to read the Dublith arc!! I bought that volume but it will arrive in one or two more weeks, and I need to see what they did to my love. It's a shame that original Greed just appeared in two episodes in fmab, so I hope the manga does him justice 😔

AND YESS!! I love how badass Lan Fan was in that fight while Ling was so confused and crying for help HAJAHDJAHAHA. It's sad how Bones treated the Xing gang so badly (because they also removed all May Chang's first apparition!!!)

I know which scene you are talking!!! Ling being aware he is just a child is so important to me because it makes this contrast with Edward, who always acts like he is a grown-up and can do all by himself. Idk, I love his dynamic, and how Ed is furious because Ling is younger and taller than him.

Bones needs to make another anime adaptation because I'm unsatisfied 😠

Top Anime of 2022

Considering that I didn't watch anime for at least 30% of the year, there is a significant amount of anime that I missed. As such, ONAs were counted as series (because they practically are). Certain sequels were also counted because I said so. It's my list, and I can do what I want! I will be putting some honourable mentions (but only the ones I plan on watching... eventually).

TOP 11:

There wasn't enough to make an "honourable mention" list for the ones I had completed. For one, some of the shows that I completed were not good. Vampire in the Garden was incredibly rushed with an ending that made less and less sense the more I thought about it (but A for effort as it felt like watching Vanitas but with more likable girlbosses). AkuLas (not gonna bother typing out the full name) just wasn't good, so I'm not even going to give it any more time besides saying it wasted mine, the pacing was wack, and the voice acting tried to carry a story that wasn't there. This ranking was very hard to make. It was incredibly difficult for me to weigh if I should put things higher based on my enjoyment or something else being objectively and critically better. Because of that, a lot of this ordering isn't set in stone, especially for the top places.

11. Koi wa Sekai Seifuku no Ato de

The first three slots are incredibly heavy on fanservice. Despite my aversion towards it (and the fact that it was distracting), I found myself still enjoying this show. It's very lighthearted, cute, and does exactly what it sets out to do and nothing more than that. Also, some things in this are better to just not think about. What the heck are those talking animals? Just don't think about it. It's all good.

10. Isekai Ojisan

Maybe it's because I caught up on this recently, but as it stands right now (with many of the episodes locked up by Netflix for whatever reason), this is going to take the #10 spot. This show was refreshing, funny, but a little bit too heavy on the fanservice (seriously, it turned into a h*ntai at some points). Regardless, I still found it very funny at the very least. It subverts many of the tired isekai tropes to make a very unique parody.

9. Sono Bisque Doll wa Koi wo Suru

I personally don't like fanservice, but this show was still cute as heck. I really like both of the main characters even if Marin is a bit (very) pushy (accidentally). I'm not as attached to the other characters, but that doesn't really matter because I like the main two a lot. Of course, the art is good. I personally didn't like the OP or ED that much even if they were incredibly catchy. Overall, a solid romance that I would rewatch like chicken noodle soup for the soul, and I'm very much looking forward to the sequel.

8. Chainsaw Man

This was a good show, but I found the cast of characters to be the weakest part of the show. It's not that I hate nor dislike them. I just didn't grow attached to them. As refreshing as it is to have a protagonist who's very clear in his intentions and goals not being about the good of society and/or friendship, I was not entirely sold on liking him as the character. On the other hand, everything else about this anime and the production value was absolutely amazing. The voice acting? Perfect (I do like that casting). The animation? Spectacular. The music? Immaculate. This could easily critically knock out further entries on this list.

7. Kotaro Lives Alone

This is the anime that probably caught me the most off-guard. This anime's character design looks awful. I was going to skip it based off that, but after watching it, I can say that I came away shaken (in a good way). The way this show portrays child abuse, emotional abuse, domestic abuse, and other heavy topics is absolutely masterful. It left me kinda emotional. I think they made Kotaro the perfect balance of mature and childish at the same time (because watching a realistic child in his circumstances would be unwatchable).

6. Bocchi the Rock!

"She's just like me fr fr!" This show got the inner dialogue of my brain, and as someone who dropped out in high school and never got that "seishun youthful blue spring" time, I felt a lot of the sentiment that Bocchi feels. I even tried joining a band (but jazz). This show is incredibly funny and uses visual humour skillfully. The voice acting is some of the best I've seen from relatively newer voice actors. That scream lives in my mind rent-free. This is basically K-On mixed with my existential dread and sense of humour. Fantastic.

5. Kimetsu no Yaiba: Yuukaku-hen

Bro, this felt better to watch than it was reading the manga, and that's saying something! The manga was still good, but this really solidified Demon Slayer as an absolute powerhouse! I know people are saying that it lacks the depth of Chainsaw Man or Jujutsu Kaisen, but I don't think things need to be complex to be good. Maybe I just want to see someone slashing some demons.

4. Spy x Family

This is peak Shonen Jump slice-of-life. Honestly, the only episodes and arcs that were a bit of a bore were still necessary and just lacked Anya. Besides that, this show was magnificent (running out of good synonyms). Anya is one of my favourite characters of the year. She's stupid but extremely caring even if she's a bit off the walls.

3. Romantic Killer

Anyone with Netflix or a pulse should go watch this show. I wrote a whole thing about it.

2. Kaguya-sama wa Kokurasetai: Ultra Romantic

I'm not sure what I can say about this show that hasn't been said already. It's a masterclass in romantic comedies, and it doesn't need fanservice (ignore the OVA) to succeed at making a ton of witty parody and comedy that transcends language in itself with an endearing romance that you can't help but root for. The openings are also iconic. Masayuki Suzuki is the king of love songs.

1. Mob Psycho 100 III

Just like Kotaro Lives Alone, this anime has a uniquely simplistic art style, but don't let that fool you, both of these anime are incredibly good at storytelling. Studio Bones cares about this series a lot, and you can see it through this anime. This is one of the best coming-of-age stories I've seen, and this season was a perfect finale to a story that we've been watching since the beginning. Everything about and from this anime range from great to exceptional.

Leverage Log: The San Lorenzo Job

OK, we're really switching to season-long setups now with the return of Manticore as a Plot-point. Not really a fan, I personally like shows where stuff can actually stand on its own to stay that way. It feels unfair to suddenly rely on the audience to start taking notes from previous episodes when you've trained them not to.

So now we know that there are 3 things to be stolen this episode: The Election/The Country itself (stuff the ballot boxes or hack the machines, possibly a Sophie Thing, grifting not a Person but a Country entirely), His Backup Gold and Diamonds (Big Parker Moment?) and the Manticore Servers (cause Leverage Consulting is not stupid enough to let that thing go out on the open market a second time. They learn from their mistakes. )

I guess there's a small chance they don't steal Manticore? In that they could also say "the servers will go on the open market after Moreau's take-down, and we'll just buy it with the money we steal from him" like he bought it after they stole it from Duberman, But that doesn't feel like how the Leverage Crew operates.

The Italian makes another appearance, "Damian Moreau will never leave San Lorenzo". Clearly a case of Exact Words 101, So of I'm right they're gonna turn his Shelter from extradition into his prison.

OK the heroes have all touched all the TV's in the electoral command center, which means they're now all Hardison-ed. Compromised, don't trust anything a TV shows in this episode.

What scandal could be worse then Sex or Corruption? Animal Cruelty, Puppies... You can tell the writers loved coming up with this as a plot.

Love the way that their chosen stooge absolutely despises them. Like Nate is not a nice guy and this is a genuinely good person forced to work with Nate at his sober-est.

The way that Sophie tells the poor guy exactly how she's gonna manipulate him with the handshake, then proceeds to do it.

And the team is back at what they do best biochemical warfare, Nothing these guys cant accomplish by drugging the heck out of some people.

--- Oh jackbooted thugs with face concealing masks, in a show where the heroes are always disguising themselves as anyone and everything, shoot Shophie on camera? Yeah that was the plan, make it look like democracy is falling apart to get them in trouble with the UN watchdogs. Tell the Current President he can simply frame Moreau to clean his own hands... give him a nice retirement package... I can see Nate's angle.

So yeah, play your enemies against eachother, steal an election, Sophie's face is going to be on the money now. Sophie grifting so hard she makes a president feels like a good enough Big Sophie Moment. So they didnt steal Manticore, just imprisoned the owner and then had it become a San Lorenzo Government Property (which is now an actual democracy).

No big parker moment... kind of sad, but having Parker steal all his gold off-screen feels like the most Parker way to steal. the simple "yeah she's good enough we dont even need to show the audience" is Parker enough for Parker. even if the 2-part finale didnt give her a "moment" the finale didnt need it.

good evening~~ here’s my very cursed(!!!) top 10 list on the most redundant [redacted] anime features off the top of my head~~

debates and disagreements welcome~

10- lxl and basketball

pointless inclusion that was pretty much just an excuse to get chiz to openly thirst over aizo. and to emphasise on just how much better aizo is at sports as compared to his poor sidekick yujiro. just male leads being male leads, ig

i mean, sure, it gave us that beautiful ball e mv, but lxl’s sporty [redacted] anime-induced hobby wasn’t worth much in general.

9- the inclusion of ⅘ of gen 2 tbh

they were pretty much just background extras for the most part, except for ken, who gets bonus moments thanks to being the male lead’s brother. heck, poor kodai doesn’t get much time to shine, despite being the adoring bf of one of the three heroines of the show. mans got more screentime either behind his camera, or as juri love flashbacks during her conversations with the jk trio.

as for the others, arisa got like 5 seconds of screentime (and 4 of them occurred in the sports fest ep, romeo ed included), and kotahina were nerfed to heck and back. they were written to be competitive and stubborn characters, so why were they portrayed to be nothing more than your average caring senpai towards hiyoko? a nd cultural festival w h e r e ? helloooooooooo~~~?

sure, the sports fest ep did give gen 2 in general a chance to show their stuff, but it was clearly more of viewer fanservice for pre-[redacted] anime fans who know and love these characters for who they truly are.

8- aizo’s “trauma reveal”

idk about you, but hiyoko does not need to know about aizo’s trauma. i mean, yeah, i totally get where ken’s coming from. as a scumbag older sibling myself, i, too, get the urge to dump lots of info about my brother to complete strangers. but. it’s just that. hiyori… really didn’t need to go “oh thank god it wasn’t real trauma. now. how can i fix him?”.

she really didn’t need to say that mans. all forms of trauma are valid forms of trauma… if that makes sense. she can’t just decide that someone’s trauma “isn’t real trauma” and then go ahead and liken it to her dislike for squid. and that includes aizo’s trauma with ladies. not cool.

on the bright side, at least aizo’s local idol boo yujiro took his trauma seriously and stood by him even as their manager had a trauma minimising session with his brother. and speaking of yujiro…

7- that someya ‘scandal’

what the heck was that ep 4 someya scandal lmao. it’s never brought up again????? not even by koichiro and tamagoro in the later episodes??? do they even know that there was a scandal about them??? bruh. what was it even there for lol. the gayze???

i mean, yeah, he’s totally the shame of the someya family for going ahead to be the less popular member of a popular idol duo, with said idol-ling being something he had received the head of said someya family’s permission for. but he had debuted without his family’s name anyway so??? does it even matter???

it would’ve actually made sense if it had a call back in a later episode, with, like, the reveal that maybe chizuru or one of the 100000 aizo stans there apparently are had leaked yujiro’s last name online in an attempt to take him down so that aizo can have a solo idol career or something. but no. it’s just never brought up again.

but before we drop the topic of yujiro like how his in-universe popularity dropped to 0 in the adaptations…

6- yujiro arrest reason

this. made. no. sense. either.

did the [redacted] anime throw darts at a dartboard of possible plot ideas to decide how the someya family side plot was going to go?? or was it decided with an online prompt generator?? or was it the result of a game of mad libs with the office crew????

like? lol? who smuggled koichiro into the bar??? and wh o let baby face yujiro into the bar??? and how did none of the staff at the bar question it?

though. wait. how the heck did hiyoko even see enough distinctive features of yujiro’s during the night that she witnessed his police encounter to identify him when they next crossed paths in the classroom? she was looking at him from above from her spot on a flight of stairs in dim lighting. just how good is her eyesight? hello?

5- repurposed yumefan

yeah yeah i k n o w the [redacted] anime staff justified their choice to use yumefan as a song to encourage hiyoko bc “it’s a song about encouraging others” and stuff. but still. yappa saikyou would probably have worked too, since it’s about not wanting to lose to your rivals and aiming to surpass the rest and stuff like that. or they could’ve just. y’know. kept nonfan in their setlist anyway if they wanted to dedicate a song to their friend(?) slash manager, since that song’s mv was the first mv that hiyoko had worked on, and thus, ✨memories✨ are there, y’know?

either way, the [redacted] anime staff saw yumefan, decided “ok it’s for women now” and had it dedicated to hiyoko and got the narumi sisters to cover it as a special ed. much wow. aizo would be proud. and speaking of aizo…

4- yuko in the countdown live

she moved to france in the lxl movie, so what is she doing here in the first place? to watch her estranged son hxld hxnds with some rando onstage? go back to france, yuko.

3- nagisa arc

the main problem i have with nagisa’s arc is how forced it felt tbh. it kinda felt like it was just. shoehorned into the plot? it just. didn’t flow well. like… especially how nagisa was completely written out of the plot after he hopped on that train. lxl had been teasing hiyoko relentlessly about nagisa till he left. then it was just like. he never existed?? excuse???

i mean. i love nagihiyo. don’t get me wrong. it’s just… the way the [redacted] anime staff plotted it into the story felt… off.

look, you see, i think the nagisa plot would’ve worked better as a season closer. like, after all that friendship drama and scandals and stuff, we get a breather in the form of the nagisa visit. he could be visiting for the countdown live, or for a christmas or new year’s visit for all i care, but it’d give the lxl + hiyoko trio, with newly strengthened bonds of friendship after all they’ve been through (thanks chiz), a chance to show off their cooperative skills with the hiyoko makeover sequence and subsequent nagisa encounter. heck, it’d even give nagisa another reason to be wary of lxl, since “aren’t these the dudes from that relationship scandal you were in? you should be more careful around them fr” could be a legit point of concern. plus! it could lead into a post-series uni timeskip or something for that sweet, sweet nagihiyo uni arc crumbs!!

hmmm. well. in the end, i still hate how nagisa’s existence was all but retconned after his episodes. poor lad. he deserves better!!! and speaking of deserving better…

2- the narumi sisters’ appearance

for sena, as she has co-starred with lxl in the past, and since she is still in the industry, it’s no surprise that she’d make an appearance or two. however, the r e a l problem is how she was handled. she was only abruptly thrown into ep 6 to fit in yet another “uwu woe is me im not cute uwu” hiyoko moment in the 24 minutes of terror. plus, those sena-mona moments make no sense whatsoever if you’re a [redacted] anime-only who doesn’t know how lxl and the narumis know each other. viewer fanservice at its finest, ig.

w h o is that girl and why does she have our angel’s name and face? i swear, the only redeeming trait she has is that her character design was done by moge, which is. yeah, much cuter than her lxl movie cameo appearance.

but aside from that. who is she? she has no goals, no ambition, all she does is go “uwu i look up to my sister who i envy… but nvm i’m here to be your relationship therapist so that’s enough about me—”

she doesn’t even get to perform in the [redacted] anime even though there was an entire joint-artiste concert in the last episode. she doesn’t even salt about her nasty encounter with yujiro (which would’ve made for a more interesting topic during her second encounter with hiyoko when they talked about conflicts with friends, instead of being demoted to a bonus manga tbh). she’s so bland, she makes plain spaghetti taste like carbonara.

and speaking of carbonara, we return to lxl for number one, which is…

1- the lxl shower scene (no image bc g o o d l a w d w h y w o u ld i include it)

they are 15. we don’t need that extended shower scene. we don’t need to know that hiyoko has no qualms about barging into the showers for the opposite gender, with said members of the opposite gender being completely nude and uncomfortable when she did so. we just. didn’t need to see any of that.

who was that scene even made for? help???? just how bad did they think their own show was that they felt the need to put in an out of place scene of teen boys showering to pad the runtime?? excuse???

bonjour idk if youre still taking these. ive had this question for like 2 months and its hella lame and its """for mac""" - how the heck did he get into anime? if uninterested or not doing these u can just delete lol

For reference, unless the ask box is actually physically closed and you can’t even send a question, it is open. :p if you continue to come in grovelling like this to every one of my blogs i will publicly poke fun at you, you know this. Assuming I don’t have my own delete policy, the nerve... p:

anyway whenever the question is related to one getting into video games, star wars, or weeb ass shit: the gateway enabler is nearly always Edward. (Of course, for some weird reason the line gets drawn at star trek - ed is strictly on the wars side of the spectrum at the moment out of stubbornness.)

I tend to think of Ed as being the most into anime because Animethon continues (?) to be the longest running anime convention in the country - that’s right, not just Western Canada! Take that, Anime North! :) I believe it’s going to be 28 years old this year. I haven’t really watched Gundam myself, but I think Ed has a soft spot for it especially since he cameo’d in it once.

At the time of writing, I haven’t been to Animethon since it stopped being held at Grant Mac (aka Anime High School as it’s affectionately known in my head because it just looks like it should be in an anime opening okay) (and I’m still an annoying U of A grad so whenever someone says it’s a University I’m like awww smol). Here’s what I imagine would be an old photo from the early-mid 2000s of Mac and Ed cosplaying Bebop (ft. Mac’s modestly hidden waifu dakimakura) :)

- In terms of personal timelines: basically in y2k Ed was spending a lot of time laying low at Mac’s place for Reasons and was keeping himself busy with proper housewarming activities for Mac’s brand new First House Ever, and once they finally got some patio furniture as a temporary placeholder for Mac’s living room, Ed’s idea of a wild Friday night after all the cleaning and painting and shopping was watching anime on YTV (which, for non-Canadians is one of the kids/teens channels and according to wiki it DOESN’T actually stand for “Youth Television” so idk what to believe anymore.)

- Ralph Bucks was the popular term for a government rebate (”Prosperity Bonus”) that then-premier Ralph Klein paid out in 2005, $400 for every man, woman and child in AB (except of course me and the fam because we had just moved back and didn’t have residency lol). Government rebates are a classic Alberta government (regardless of political stripe) tactic for boosting popularity (instead of like. spending the money on actual services or solving real problems) (again looking at you danielle) Anyway $400 could be like 2 really nice gundams at least... but Mac probably also spent the rest on something else.

- i dont know when the next time I’ll be at animethon is, i do have a soft spot for it and if you attended in the past decade you might have even seen me working the pre-registration table for a few years! if you ever see someone cosplaying alberta from iamp it’s most definitely me : ); I’ve been to Anime North and Otafest and they just don’t compare U_U

Digimon Adventure 02 (Blind Watch) - Episode 26

I felt like this episode was a little too exposition dump-y for my liking. I had trouble focusing and had to rewind several times when I missed what they said. Yeah, the jogress digivolution was pretty hype, but it's also really ugly so...mixed feelings there. (According to my googling jogress = join + progress and is called DNA digivolution in the localization. Both names are kinda bleh if you ask me).

At least I can now say I'm over halfway done with this season! Woo-hoo :'D

Digimon introduced: Minotarumon, Okuwamon, Paildramon

Notes:

-The fansubbed version of this show just keeps getting jankier and jankier. As you may have noticed, the title screens have been missing some words. (I still appreciate the hard work of the anime community!)

-I wonder what the pitch was like for the evil lady's powers ("So she sticks her hair into the dark towers and then they transform into digimon!") Like...either we'll get a backstory or this is totally a "rule of cool" scenario.

-Very confused about how the dark towers function currently. When the dark towers turn into digimon I don't think they affect digivolution but maybe they do...? Patamon and Tailmon said something about not being able to evolve into perfect form but is that more about the lack of crests? I guess it doesn't really matter, but I'm having trouble keeping track of things.

-Speaking of evolution, now that there are more evolution options, it feels a little random which evolutions are chosen in the moment. I guess they use higher-powered evolutions for higher-powered enemies, but when they were fighting Minotarumon Veemon did an armor evolve and Hawkmon did an adult evolve. Also, they evolved and de-evolved like 50 times this episode lol. Talk about padding!

-New eye-catch and new ending!! The eye-catch is so cute and I was really excited to see Ken as part of the gang and acting silly. I straight up skipped the ED because, as usual, it was PACKED with visual spoilers. From what I saw, it looked like a cheesy 80s music video which made me giggle.

-Just simple things like Ken and Wormmon sharing a snack at home make me really happy :') his reaction to being shown kindness by Daisuke toward the end was also really heartwarming.

-So evil lady was behind Ken's "Digimon Kaiser" phase all along which is no surprise. Apparently she just chose him due to his vulnerable state which seems like a pretty common MO in anime bad guys. I felt really bad for Ken when he realized how exploited/violated he was. It's probably kinda good that he has a place to direct his anger now instead of wallowing in self hatred. (Although he still seems to be doing that). They're really making it easy for the audience to forgive him which is good. Sometimes anime redemptions happen really undeservedly and evil actions are just excused out of nowhere.

-I only just realized this, but does Ken fill the obligatory "rival" role this season? It was Takeru before (kinda) but Ken seems like a more natural fit, especially with the Jogress Digivolution.

-I was groovin to that Jogress Digivolution sequence music. So hype. The 3D animation was fun too. I think it looks slightly improved from Digimon Adventure?

-Is it just me or do these names keep getting more and more obscure? What the heck is a Paildramon? (The dub pronunciation is really weird, like "Pa-EEL-dramon!"). When the name first flashed on screen I thought they were playing on the word "Palindrome" and I thought that was really cool lol.

-So as I was spoiled in the ED, I guess we'll be getting a bunch of these fusion evolutions. It seems only natural that Ken and Daisuke would be partner up as MC and rival dudes, but the others...? Guess I'll have to wait and see where they go with this.

Hi. To the anon that just sent me that ask (and no I'm not replying to the ask directly 'cause people don't need to be subjected to it) but this is also just to clarify some things for anyone else who may have similar ideas about me or my characters.

First: Sev and Jai are not the same character. At one point in time, Sev was an AU of Jai but became her own character really quick, though they do still look very similar because of that. To clarify, Jai is a fursona, Sev is just an OC. She is not a sona or a self-insert at this point as her original concept has strayed so far that she is now her own character entirely.

Second: Sev's story is about recovery and finding humanity where many may not. It is not about Sev "being treated like a dog". That's literally the opposite of what her arc is all about. I'm writing it as a way to give the Elrics a sort of do-over to help someone the way they weren't able to help Nina. It is in no way intended to be a 'kink' literally what the heck.

Edit: Adding onto that, even if Sev was a self-insert, I still don't think there would be anything wrong with that. Like I said, her whole thing is literally about not being treated like an animal anymore. Like. Calling her a "self-insert kink so you can be treated like a dog" just proves to me that you haven't read her story at all lol. Sev's story is literally her healing from abuse, not me having a kink. Congrats! You missed the point entirely! Went right over your head!

Third: I have no intention whatsoever to ship Sev in any way, shape, or form with any characters, canon or otherwise. For one, I am aroace and have no interest at all in that, and two, it would be kinda bad/problematic, given the circumstances. Also, it's not super important, I suppose, given what I just said above, but Sev is a child as well. I've never given her exact age here, but outside of a specific AU, Sev is in her young teens and the story takes place post-series, when Ed and Al are adults so. Yeah.

That aside, do you think it's okay to wish someone to be sexually assaulted? Do you think that's a normal thing to tell someone just because you don't like what they do? It's ok if you don't like my character or my story, but please don't accuse me of being something I'm not or wish that kind of harm upon me or anyone else for that matter. It makes you no better than whatever you're trying to project me as.

Still, I hope you're doing okay, anon. Life has got to be pretty miserable if you have this much hate to spew. I think you need to go spend some time outside and find the beauty in the world instead of focusing so much vitriol onto someone on the internet that you don't even know. Maybe you'll be a better person if you focus your efforts outwards in a positive way and help your community and see a change around you rather than seething in your internet angst or whatever.
