Letters van Helsing has now read:
9 May - "I am longing to be with you, and by the sea, where we can talk together freely [...] I shall try to do what I see lady journalists do: interviewing and writing descriptions and trying to remember conversations. I am told that, with a little practice, one can remember all that goes on or that one hears said during a day. [...] I have just had a few hurried lines from Jonathan from Transylvania. He is well, and will be returning in about a week."
24 August - "I found my dear one, oh, so thin and pale and weak-looking. All the resolution has gone out of his dear eyes, and that quiet dignity which I told you was in his face has vanished. He is only a wreck of himself, and he does not remember anything that has happened to him for a long time past. [...] ...after saying that she could never mention what my poor dear raved about, added: 'I can tell you this much, my dear: that it was not about anything which he has done wrong himself; and you, as his wife to be, have no cause to be concerned. He has not forgotten you or what he owes to you. His fear was of great and terrible things, which no mortal can treat of.' [...] I have had a great shock, and when I try to think of what it is I feel my head spin round, and I do not know if it was all real or the dreaming of a madman. You know I have had brain fever, and that is to be mad. The secret is here, and I do not want to know it. [...] I took the book from under his pillow, and wrapped it up in white paper, and tied it with a little bit of pale blue ribbon which was round my neck, and sealed it over the knot with sealing-wax, and for my seal I used my wedding ring. Then I kissed it and showed it to my husband, and told him that I would keep it so, and then it would be an outward and visible sign for us all our lives that we trusted each other; that I would never open it unless it were for his own dear sake or for the sake of some stern duty."
17 September - "Jonathan wants looking after still. He is beginning to put some flesh on his bones again, but he was terribly weakened by the long illness; even now he sometimes starts out of his sleep in a sudden way and awakes all trembling until I can coax him back to his usual placidity."
18 September - "But it is here that the grave shock that he experienced tells upon him the most. Oh, it is too hard that a sweet, simple, noble, strong nature such as his—a nature which enabled him by our dear, good friend's aid to rise from clerk to master in a few years—should be so injured that the very essence of its strength is gone."
He has also read Lucy's diary, the first entry of which (24 August) contains these lines: "I must imitate Mina, and keep writing things down. [...] Last night I seemed to be dreaming again just as I was at Whitby."
So, the impression he will have of the facts, upon writing his letter to Mina today, goes something like this:
Mina's then-fiance went to Transylvania and was supposed to return by around 16 May.
Instead, Mina found him terribly ill in a hospital in Budapest on 24 August, about three months later. He had been raving about great and terrible things, but could no longer recall them.
He had written a record of these things.
No one knows what is inside his record, but Mina has possession of it.
He is still fragile/slowly recovering.
Mina was with Lucy on Whitby, where Lucy was likely first attacked.
Mina kept a thorough record of those days.
So his goal in asking to speak to Mina is likely to try and get access to her journal from Whitby, and Jonathan's journal as well if he can manage it (less directly linked but suspicious). Not knowing that she has already read Jonathan's journal, it probably feels like a huge ask (since she sealed it up with great deliberacy) and he probably expects her to have no knowledge of the significance of anything she remembers from Whitby either. No wonder he is so polite and apologetic in his letter.

This was entirely tangential to this post from @utilitycaster which is why this is its own post, but the tags made me think about what feels most compelling about Liliana to me, and it's really because there's such an interesting approach to redemption in terms of the sunk cost fallacy to be had there.
There have been plenty of comparisons between Liliana and Essek, but I don't think they're really situations that can be compared. Essek had done one horrible thing (that was of relevence to the story; it is implied that he's taken other actions that he feels were wrong, but we don't know what those entail nor do the Nein care enough to ask, so per narrative convention, they do not matter for analysis) and was only still involved in it to the extent that he couldn't take it back, so to survive he had to continue covering his tracks. But he was also incentivized to otherwise act in alignment with the group that was not those on behalf of whom he had made terrible choices, because he was still living in the Dynasty, and as such wasn't actively perpetuating those actions beyond the cover up.
Liliana on the other hand is acting with the Vanguard and has been furthering if not personally committing atrocities on their behalf for a number of years, continuing to the present. Like Essek, she believes her involvement in the cause to be a difficult choice that was made for noble reasons, and now can't see a way out. But she is also relieved to be told to stay, though at the point that they discuss her leaving, she is alone and outside the immediate range of contact or oversight from the Vanguard. It seems reasonable that she could disappear with a decent headstart, and perhaps become untraceable quickly enough to be safe from anyone following. With this context, returning to the Vanguard with the intention of feeding information to the opposition feels like the riskier choice, but crucially it is the devil she knows.
I actually liken this more to Cassandra de Rolo than Essek. Cassandra was manipulated against her brother by the Briarwoods, but this was also spurred by having watched Percy seemingly leave her for dead. There are legitimate reasons why the Briarwoods, as the people who rescued her and then kept her alive for many years, are the easier option in which to place her trust. She knows what she's getting from that vantage point and how to handle it. She doesn't inherently have faith that someone she only knew as a young and helpless child, who ran from the hardships she's faced, would have the strength or willingness to do what she has found necessary for survival.
I think that Liliana's actions are more willful, not least because she was not a child nor in mortal peril when she joined the Vanguard, but she sees herself as having made difficult choices when only faced with difficult options, and I do think they have been difficult. She didn't want to leave her family; she doesn't want to hurt the young Ruidusborn under her care; she is probably genuinely sorry that innocent people were considered a necessary sacrifice for what she sees as the greater good. It is psychologically taxing to feel as though one is always picking between bad options, which is a significant contributing factor for why people buy into a sunk cost for so long. And over time, those hard decisions become easier, because you know what to expect from the outcome. Though Liliana is well aware that she might be killed for a misstep among the Vanguard, she already knows how to act to maintain their favor, but how she might be received on Exandria by those fighting the Vanguard, even with the Hells vouching for her, is anyone's guess.
This is a very real reason why people remain in cults and struggle to push back against this kind of conditioning: because the decision to leave feels more immediately perilous than the decision to stay. (On a certain level making these kinds of choices and actions habitual is a fundamental basis behind a lot of military conditioning.) And if you are acting in the interests of your own survival, but that survival comes at the cost of that of countless others who have not, in fact, made any threat or harm against you to begin with, then is the nature of your survival morally defensible?
This analysis isn't a question of whether Liliana will commit to her role as double agent and turn fully against the Vanguard, or even which one of these is a "better" story; this is about what the story might say if she doesn't. Yes, she might commit to a different path than the one she's on and make an effort to redeem herself, but it is also a perfectly coherent and interesting story if she doesn't.

losing control
(welt yang x reader)
tw: reader is uncomfortable with physical touch
Tumblr media
“Welt and you will be going down for this mission. Please be careful, I advise you to stay close with him at all times y/n. The people you’ll be dealing with are anything but good.”
Himeko’s voice rings in your ears.
The crowd was only getting worse, the city you were at wasn’t like ones you were used to. Sure cities were busy and all but you were getting swept away by the crowd.
“Y/n! Grab me!” Welts voice comes out strained, people pushing you and him further apart.
The look on your face was making him desperate to get out of there. He knows you have a problem with having people too close let alone touching you, you looked utterly scared.
He doesn’t dare try and grab you; he doesn't want to scare you anymore than you already are hence why he’s telling you to grab onto him.
You reach your hand out to reach for his forearm only to feel someone else grab your arm, sweeping you further away from welt.
“Hey let them go!” Welt pushes forward seeing you squirm uncomfortably.
He would grab you, would bring you close to him but he knows just how uncomfortable you are with any sort of physical touch.
He first noticed it when you joined the Astral Express.
He picked up on your facial expressions and body language when you’d squirm away from the slighted touch. When others would accidentally bump into you even sometimes when March would hug you, though you tried your best to not show it, he noticed it.
You felt bad, didn’t want others to think you were uncomfortable around them exactly. It’s just you’ve never experienced it much and before you knew it when it would happen you found yourself wanting to get away from it.
It made you feel vulnerable, it made you scared for so many reasons.
Doesn’t help that the reason why you were in this mess in the first place was because you had already miraculously gotten on the bad guys side and now they were tailing you.
Welt and you were asking around about the city and it’s recent troubles with the gangs that run certain parts. Little did you know someone from one of the notorious gangs just happened to be listening in.
“Excuse me ma’am sorry to bother, I just wanted to ask you about your troubles with the city lately. Do you think you can tell me anything revolving around certain people?” You politely ask the old lady behind the counter who was serving coffee.
“My dear, please don’t speak so loudly of such people, you never know where they are I wouldn’t want you to get in-“
“Looks like todays your lucky day kid! I just so happen to be involved with the people you speak of. Now, what business do you outsiders have with us huh?” an older man clears his throat leaning next to you, making you lean back stepping off the stool you sat on. Welt’s shoulders come into view to block the man from getting any closer.
“We are here to ask questions, nothing more, please step back.” Welt clears his throat, adjusting his glasses on the bridge of his nose.
“Wasn’t talking to you four eyes. You two are here to cause trouble clearly, anyone who asks about us has bad intentions your little friend there knows just what they’re asking.” The man laughs, making Welt sigh, talking to people like this was like talking to a wall.
“They mean no harm, please don’t start a ruckus in my diner.” The old woman behind the counter sighs, pushing a cup of coffee your way, a look of worry on her face as she looks over to you.
“Go out the back if anything happens.” She mouths and you nod your head, an uneasy feeling setting in your chest.
“Hey,” the older man clicks his tongue, hand reaching over for you. “I’m talking to you kid, don’t you know how to respect-“
In an instant the man’s hand and head were pinned to the table below you, Welt standing over him pinning him down.
The second the man’s head slammed the table around fifteen other men shot up from their seats, weapons drawing pointing at both Welt and you.
“Y/n, get the older woman and take her somewhere safe in the back, have her take you outside, I’ll be there right now.” Welt whispers, making you immediately shake your head no.
“I can’t leave-“
“Y/n you’ll be fine, I promise I’ll go out there for you right now.” Welt’s voice comes out a bit calmer this time, giving you a small nod.
You slowly nod back, placing both palms onto the counter.
“Now!” Welts voice urges you, making you push yourself up and jump over the counter, grab the old lady’s hand and run to the back.
“He’ll be fine.” You tell yourself over and over.
The noises coming from the dining hall were anything but pleasant making you all the more scared.
“Ma’am I’m sorry about all this. I’m taking you away from the fight so you won’t get hurt but I need you to tell me where the back door is at.” You make your way down the narrow hall with her behind.
“Leave me here around the corner dear, I’ll be fine, this is my dinner after all.” She slows down and you turn back to her.
“The door that leads to the outside is all the way down. Make one right and a left. It should lead you outside but beware of the crowded streets, it will however make it earlier for you both to escape. Now go!” She explains, pointing down the hall.
“I can’t leave you here, what if they-“
“I need to stay, they won’t hurt me, trust me. Besides I need to tell that boyfriend of yours where the back door is too!” She turns, hearing the hallway door open.
You open your mouth to say something but she only gently moves your forward to the back.
You quickly thank her once again and make your way down. The door to the outside soon came into view and your legs full on sprinted only coming to a halt when your arms reached out to push it open. You weren’t leaving without Welt.
However Welt was right behind you, the old woman had told him which back door to head out and managed to lose the guy who was tailing him.
Loud footsteps were heard from the corner of the hall and you held your breath.
“Where’s welt?”
“Is he ok?”
“What if it’s not him?”
“What if he’s hurt?”
Your mind racing with so many questions all at once, only does it stop when you see the familiar head of brown hair and glasses come into your view.
“Over here!” You push the door open and step out, waiting for him to fully exit to shut the door and block it from the outside.
As soon as Welts leg left the door, the man from earlier had turned down the corner and was running straight towards you.
You push the door forward with all your weight but it didn’t close fully, the footsteps were now much closer.
You lean back and throw your body against it to push it more but nothing happened.
Welt leaned over your body leaning over the door and shoved it closed just as the older man was about to burst through it.
“Thank you, are you ok?” You ask out of breath.
“Yes I am, they didn’t get me, don't worry I’m not hurt.” He replies equally as out of breath as you, you step close to examine if he’s actually ok or not but stop when you hear something hit the door.
A loud bang comes from the door you've just closed making you both turn, only to see the hinges fly off.
Welt and you made no comment, the second the bolts flew off the door you knew you had to leave.
Your legs waste no time, running down the dark alley and into the crowd.
That’s how you both found yourself in this predicament.
The old woman wasn’t lying when she said the crowded streets would make them lose you, only they proved to be more than you thought, you were losing sight of Welt as people swept you farther and farther away.
“Y/n!” Welts tone calls out laced with worry, his voice sounds so close yet far from all the muffled voices overlapping
The people passing kept bumping into you making you all the more uneasy, being so close to others wasnt something you were used to. You need to get out, the people around you were making it even harder for Welt to spot you.
“Welt! Welt where are you?!” You pull your arm towards you, away from the random person and push your way through the crowd, seeing Welt reach out his hand again.
You felt as if you were slowly losing control. You couldn’t keep your balance, couldn’t move, you were being pushed, grabbed, shoved it was all too much. It was making your skin crawl, burn in an uncomfortable way.
“Grab me, I'll try getting you out of here, just grab my hand or arm wherever you can!” Welt calls out and you manage to get closer.
“What if they can’t reach me?
“Do I grab them?”
“No, I don't want to make them any more uncomfortable than they already are.” Welt argues with himself as to whether or not he should but youre so close, just mere inches away.
You stretch out your arm again, fingers just brushing against Welts before gunshots are heard.
If the crowd was bad before, now, there was truly no way of getting out now.
“No I can't- don't take them.” Welts eyes widen when you get swept back further, your face falls into one of complete horror and he feels his heart drop.
Frustrated tears were now building up.
You had no choice, you know he was trying to respect you by not grabbing you himself. Everyone on the astral express knows and respects your boundaries, but right now you didnt want to be here.
It was strange, though you dislike physical touch right now having Welt grab you or being closer to him sounded so comforting.
“WELT!” you shout and his eyes widen when he sees you crying.
“Grab me! I can't reach you so grab me! It’s ok if you do! I promise it is, you can grab onto me!” You shout, seeing him lunge forward not a second after you called out to him.
You were trying to stop your legs from moving back, staying still getting shoved, pushed, grabbed onto for leverage, you stood your ground.
Welt was much closer than before, squeezing himself though the crowd getting ready to grab you and make it out of here.
This time was the last he'd let this happen.
He wasn't going to stand this anymore. Seeing you get shoved and pushed when you were already this scared.
Another particularly hard shove makes you stumble and lose your footing, you feel yourself slip before you can steady yourself but you never hit the ground.
Welts hand wraps itself gently around your bicep and pulls you close. His other arm barricades you into him as he tries his best to prevent anyone else from bumping into you.
His taller frame didn’t get swept away as easily as you did so he managed to hold his ground. Though it was still tough to force his way out, after what felt like hours he had managed to make it out of the crowd with you.
The gunshots were still going off, the yelling and screaming making everything, the whole situation way down on you.
If you’d only kept your mouth shut, only listened and took your time this never would’ve happened.
Welts legs didn’t stop moving, he still had a firm hold on your arm as he kept you in front of him as he made his way back to where the astral express could pick you both up.
After what felt like ten minutes of walking, Welt stopped and looked around, finding a small deserted area a good place to stay for a bit.
He makes his way to the small bench by the wall with you near, his hand reaching for his phone but stops when he feels your shaking arm intensify a bit.
He looks down at you and notices just how harsh the crowd was on you. Your sleeves were missing from your shirt from being practically thrown around pulled and pushed.
“Hey, hey y/n are you hurt? Are you ok?” He asks, moving back so you can sit on the bench so he can see if you were bleeding anywhere. Feeling the corners of his mouth tug downward when you look up at him with misty eyes.
“I- I’m ok. I just didn’t think it- it would turn out this way.” You stutter, looking back down at your arms laid on your lap, feeling your lips start to tremble.
“Everyone was just so close, I couldn’t stand it.” You shiver a bit, the cool air and memories were making you squirm. “I couldn't reach you. I’m so- I’m sorry I made this whole mess happen. I didn't mean to worry you.” You suck in a deep breath, you didn’t want to cry over this. It wasn’t their fault you felt that way about touching it being close to others. Everyone, including Welt and you were in a panic.
“You don’t need to apologize to me y/n you did nothing wrong.” You feel his hand gently let your arm go, strangely you didn’t even feel it on you. You had forgotten he grabbed you until he let go.
“It’s understandable why you are shaken up and nothing is wrong with that ok? It’s understandable to be uncomfortable in these situations, especially if you don’t like it in the first place. You did nothing wrong, this was out of both your control and my own.” He assures you, voice much softer than earlier.
“Here, if you’d like you can put this on for now. Your sleeves are missing and it’s cold, I wouldn’t want you getting sick too after this.” He shrugs off his coat, sitting next to you on the bench while putting it over your shoulders, being careful as he did so. You’ve taken too much already today he knows you need time to recuperate.
Your fingers clutch the fabric over you, pulling it closer to your skin. The familiar comforting scent makes you calm down a bit more.
“Thank you for saving me, for grabbing hold of me and for being considerate even in a dire situation like that. You didn’t have to wait for me to give you the ok, you could’ve grabbed onto me before but the fact you did makes me feel safer than I do with anyone else Welt, I appreciate it.” You send him a wobbly smile, letting out a long breath, feeling like you can finally breathe now that you’re both safe.
He can only offer you a soft smile back and a nod of his head in return. The smile you gave him and the genuine appreciation in your tone made him feel warm even though his coat was off. Right now at this moment he couldn't be more relieved that you’re safe to see you smile though he knows it’s affecting you more than you’re letting on.
He feels his phone buzz and sees a message from Himeko.
“How’s everything down there?”
He clicks her contact and dials her number, deciding to call and explain what exactly happened.
“No no, I’m ok, so is y/n they’re right here-“
His voice cuts off when he feels the weight of your head lean over on his shoulder, you fell asleep.
“Is everything ok?” Himeko asks and Welt clears his throat, slowly adjusting his glasses as he does so as to not wake you.
“Yes, everything is fine. They’re sleeping right now. They had a long day, I think it’s best we give them some time off when we get back up.” Welt smiles as Himeko hums in agreement .
“Well of course after all today was hard for them from what you’ve told me. We’ll give them as much time as they need. Now, we’ll be there right now to get you both, sit tight.” Himeko tell’s Welt before handing up.
Welt gently leans back into the bench and looks back down at you leaning on his shoulder. Smiling to himself seeing you look at peace for the first time this whole day.
“Get rest, we’ll be home soon.” He whispers as you subconsciously wrap his coat tighter around your frame.

no shot this just came up on my facebook, the absolute whiplash i got from this
Tumblr media
why viserys did alicent and aemma both dirty
oh wow haha. i mean i guess i've been wanting to talk about this for a while. here is the link to my original post, and here is the link to the facebook post shown above. i made the mistake of checking the comments on this post and there are two frequent responses that really worry me. the first is that alicent was not raped because viserys only had sex with her out of "duty". the second is that aemma was not slaughtered because viserys had "no other choice." so let's go through why these takes are straight-up horrifying. massive cw going forward for detailed discussion of rape of a minor and graphic death during childbirth.
viserys did not marry alicent out of duty, but out of selfishness. if he was marrying purely out of duty, he would have married someone from a powerful house whose allyship would have been politically useful. he would have married someone the small council would have approved of. he did not do this. he married alicent, at his political expense, because he wanted to fuck her. he chose her specifically, because he wanted to fuck her. even though she was a child. even though she was his daughter's best friend. even though he'd likely watched her grow up.
he wanted to fuck her, and so he married her.
now, let's give viserys the benefit of the doubt and say that he didn't realize alicent didn't want him. this still doesn't change that he raped her. if a person is forced into having sex against their will, it is rape. the rapist's intentions do not factor into this. if the rapist does not get consent, that is on them. viserys is the grown man in this situation. he is the king of an entire continent with a thousand times more power than alicent will ever have. he has been king for over a decade at this point, and he knows the power he wields. it is his responsibility as the person in power to not abuse it. if he is ignorant to the power dynamic between him and alicent, it is willfully so, and for his own benefit. so he can feel less conflicted about raping her.
lastly, let's talk about what viserys does even after he realizes he's been raping alicent. this takes place in episode four, right before he fires otto. he admits he realizes alicent was placed by his side by otto, and not because she genuinely cared for him. aemond and daeron have not been born yet.
viserys had this realization, and he had two children already, including a son who fulfilled his duty to be spares, and he still raped her enough times over multiple years to force two more children on her.
i really pray that any survivors of rape who encountered these types of comments about viserys find healing and peace. and i hope that the people who made those comments never find themselves the victim of a man who insists he didn't know what he was doing but who absolutely should have.
next, let's talk about aemma, and the argument that viserys didn't slaughter her because she was "going to die anyways." i do acknowledge that aemma was beyond saving at that point, but let's list the facts of the situation. i'm drawing directly from the script here.
the maester told viserys that the technique he was proposing would involve "cutting directly into the womb." viserys knew the agony and sheer body horror of what the maester was proposing, and he did it anyways. aemma asks "what is happening?" and is clearly afraid. when viserys tells her they're going to get the baby out, she asks "how are they…" showing that she wants more information about what is about to happen to her, and that she is not giving informed consent (or any consent at all). he does not give it to her. and she dies screaming, in absolute agony, literally split in two with strangers' hands inside the wound tearing her further open, screaming "no" over and over. begging her husband to stop them.
he does not stop them.
viserys did not give aemma the chance to even give informed consent about what was happening. he ignored her pleas to be spared this horrible fate because he did not care about what she wanted. and he let the maesters keep her alive and conscious throughout the procedure so that she suffered every last agonizing second of it.
"but he had to save the baby-" if he knew aemma was a dead woman walking, why didn't he give her a quick, merciful death before letting them cut into her? the whole thing happened in seconds, so you can't try to tell me it would've hurt the chances for the baby. was aemma arryn always going to die? yes. did she have to die afraid, and in literally unimaginable pain, while begging those killing her to stop? did she have to die being butchered like an animal? no.
viserys did that to her, and that was his choice. i stand by what i said.
i hope that none of the people justifying viserys's decision are ever allowed to make a decision about another woman's body. i hope that they take a long, hard look at their willingness to justify causing unnecessary agony and terror to women. both for their sake, and for the sake of the women in their lives who deserve their respect and understanding.
paddy considine is a wonderful actor, and made his portrayal of viserys as compelling as possible. but "he's got charisma" should simply never trump the very real harm his character chose to cause these poor women. it genuinely terrifies me that to so many people, it does.
if anyone ever encounters comments like the ones i mentioned, please link them to this post. this sort of mentality has helped to justify the harm of countless women and will continue to do so if we don't challenge every form it takes. there is a real world impact here and i cannot stress this enough.

Regardless, I’ll do my best, but there were a couple people tumblr just didn’t want to tag. ~Naughty~
Private Tour
It keeps happening, and you have no one to blame but yourself. This time it’s happening at the TOPGUN mission training facility, because Bob showed up at the bar again and you asked him for a tour of said training facility rather than just ask him to fuck you, which is what you’d actually wanted. The mildly amused expression on Bob’s face said it all: he knew what you really wanted, and he had no intention of fucking you unless you asked for it first.
That’s just how Bob is. The first time around, he was a little more open, a little more cautious. You were new to one another, after all. But now that he knows he’s got you, all bets are off. He’s still sweet, but he’s also whip-smart, and from the way he expertly winds you up, he’s an expert people-reader. And he absolutely refuses to do anything to you without your say-so. It shouldn’t have been maddening. Literally, it isn’t. In practice, it is. Euphemisms are one thing; he lets you get away with them, so long as you pair your subtlety with physical advancements. But he won’t do the verbal heavy lifting on your behalf; one night, he showed up at the Hard Deck all alone, and you gave him the horniest once over on planet earth. You bit your lip, tilted your head just so, and pushed your tits out a little. And Bob smiled at you, finished his beer, left you a respectable tip, and went home. Your desires are your responsibility, after all.
The little fucker didn’t have to enjoy it so much, though. Right before he went out the door that night, you saw that sweet little smile turn a bit naughty. Submission doesn’t have to involve teeth and rope, canvas sacks, rigs installed into ceilings. Sometimes, it involves waiting. Bob makes you wait. Bob makes you say what you want. It makes you feel small, and dirty, and helpless to the whims of your libido to tell him exactly what you want. And you kind of fucking love it.
You asked for a tour. So he gave you a tour. Here is the front desk, he said. Here is the hangar. Over there, jets. No, you cannot photograph them. Here are the bathrooms. Here are some important people photographed on the wall. The whole time, he’s just grinning like an idiot and you are horny as hell and mad about it. He’s waiting for you to say it. He’s waiting for you to want him plainly, with no room for misunderstanding. A couple of his peers--you don’t know about any of them except for Natasha, or Phoenix, because he’d pointed her out to you as his pilot--walk by in their jumpsuits, shooting you curious glances that don’t go any further than that. By the time Bob lets you inside an empty classroom, points out the physics equations on the board, and hands you a model F-18--“They’re called Super Hornets,” he informs you--you’re ready to tear off your clothes and fuck him. Or kill him. You’re holding out for the former, though.
“I’m not wearing any underwear,” you respond. Your face becomes a fire hazard.
He comes one step closer. It’s the only thing he’ll do. You have to take the next step.
“Sounds very liberating,” he says. “Something you want?”
“You know what I fucking want, Bob.”
“Consent is very important,” he tells you with all the gravitas of a man who knows he’s the smartest one in the room more often than not. “So if there’s something you want, you should tell me. It’s easy.”
“You think it’s easy?” Flustered, you take a step back, hands on your hips, unsure if you want to bail out the window or just remove the rest of your clothing and stare him down until he does something about it.
“Of course,” he says. He leans up against the heavy desk at the front of the room and runs a finger across its surface. “For example, I want to bend you over this desk and make sweet, tender love to you. Now, you try. It’s fun.”
You’re going to kill him. You’re going to kill him, and no one will ever find the body.
“You’re a real smartass, Bob. And I bet you get away with it, don’t you?”
“It’s the glasses,” he sighs in mock exasperation. “And the baby face. What can I do?”
“You can fuck me,” you say. The words feel like taffy getting pulled from between your teeth: sticky, difficult, stubborn. But also: so very sweet. “Over this desk. Like you said. I want you to fuck me over this desk.”
“There you go,” Bob says.
With two gentle fingers to the top of your spine, he turns you around to face the desk, those same two fingers trailing down your back to become a gentler push, and you bend down until your breasts squish against the wood. You’re wearing a skirt again because you knew it would make things easier, and because you like to spread your legs to go deeper; shorts and pants make that a pain.
Two fingers become three: he sticks them inside you all at once, up to the palms of his hands, and you’ve got no time to be sheepish about how wet and ready you are before he’s fingering you open, one slick thumb heading down to pass feather-light over your clit. It’s teasing, and torture, and you’ve never felt better.
“You’re very enthusiastic,” Bob remarks, and you can hear the grin you can’t see. “It’s a shame you aren’t more forward more often.” What an absolute, little shit.
But then the fingers are gone, and he’s down on his knees with his face right between your thighs, eating you out with all the passion you know he’s capable of, when all everyone else sees is a bookish nerd who wouldn’t know sarcasm if it hit him in the face. His tongue rubs against your clit, and he tarries there long enough for over-stimulation to kick in, but when you try to move he grabs your hips nearly hard enough to bruise.
“You don’t want to move,” he says, breathless. “Do you? Say it. You want more.”
“I want more,” you admit. Your body burns like a wildfire. “I do.”
“Manners,” he chides.
“Please.”
You gasp when his tongue returns, and penetrates you as deep as you can go, occasionally replaced by fingers--three, and then four before you can’t fucking take it anymore.
“Fuck me.”
“Are you sure?”
“Fuck me.”
You are released. From behind, you hear the sound of a belt buckle, fabric being jostled, and then the head of his cock is pushing up against you, the thick mass of it just as impressive by touch as it is by sight. How the fuck, you think as he starts guiding himself in, did a guy like Bob wind up with this cock? He bottoms out with a grunt, and you squeeze around him, relishing in the sensation. There’s a bit of a burn, but the old hoo-hah has had a few rounds to acclimate itself to Bob’s obscenely large pants-snake, and Bob can feel it just as much as you can. Naturally, he comments.
“It’s getting easier,” he says, drawing his hips back and snapping them forward. “What are you going to do with yourself after I leave?”
It’s so good. It’s so fucking good and he’s one stroke in. “Get the biggest dildo I can,” you say through gritted teeth. “I will name it in your honor.”
The laugh that follows is kind, and genuine. “Consider me pre-honored by the fact. Please send photos of the naming ceremony.” He draws out again, and snaps back harder.
“You’d like that, wouldn’t you?”
He thrusts again. Again. Again. “I would,” Bob says. “Please allow me to send my gratitude early.”
You’ve got just enough time to swear and grab the edge of the desk to hold on, and then Bob cuts loose. Your feet lift up off the floor, your breasts are bouncing, your spine is arched, and unless the vents in the room are closed you’re giving all the facility neighbors one hell of a show. With every sharp movement of his hips, Bob tears a new reaction out of you: a gasp, a moan, a breathy whine, a plea, his name, a groan. You can feel your muscles relax, your body itself shifting to let more of him in, to push back and meet him somewhere near the middle, to relish in the way his balls slap against you, which is a dirty pleasure you hadn’t even known you’d entertained until meeting him.
There’s no more sass from the man himself. When he gets to work, he gets to work, and after the last time you were promised no more dad jokes in bed. Bob did negotiate successfully for the presence of dad jokes during pillow talk. But if somebody was in or on somebody else--nada.
“Almost there,” he says, and speeds up. “Me or you?”
“Me,” you say. Shifting one forearm to rest flat on the desk for stability, you let your now-free hand come down to touch yourself, the decadent high of penetration joined by the electric, intense feeling just above. You become a vessel for nothing but your own pleasure, and his, and when you come you transform into a babbling mess, the fuck yes mixing with the please, please and harder and don’t stop until you can’t tell which way is up. You slap both hands palm-down on the desk and arch up as far as you can go, stretching out your orgasm as long as you can, Bob’s hand roughly lifting your shirt so he can pull and pinch at your breasts and nipples.
They’re personal--all the little touches that Bob learned you like. Because yeah, he’s a freak in the sheets, and yeah, he’s a lot spicier than you thought he could be, but he’s also observant and thoughtful. What you share might not be exclusive--you haven’t really talked that over with him since you know his presence here is temporary--but it’s personal, god damn it. Private.
So of course that’s the moment that the classroom door opens and Bob’s pilot, Phoenix walks in holding two large bubble teas. The instant she realizes what she just burst in on, Phoenix yelps and spins around.
“Bob. What the fuck. Again? Again?”
Bob doesn’t even stop. He does apologize, at least. What the fuck have these two been through together, you wonder? You knew being in the military involved some measure of modesty loss, but you’d thought there was a fucking limit, Jesus Christ.
“Sorry,” he says, and moves a tad faster, finishing with a silent inhale that you can feel expanding across your back from his chest. “Thought we’d be done by now.”
“Dude, what the hell. This is fucking ridiculous, Floyd. What is this, number seven on my list of times I’ve walked in on you humping some random person?”
“Oh, the last name. I’m in trouble.” Bob pulls out with a squelch, and you just screw your eyes shut as hard as you can. If you can’t see her, she can’t see you! Logic.
“I should just drink both of these, you nasty-ass bastard.”
“Considering this bubble tea is an apology purchase, which was promised to me after I walked in on you pegging you-know-who two days ago, I think not.”
Phoenix makes a sound of disgust, but even without knowing her you can tell it’s resting on a foundation of fondness. You feel a bit like a third wheel. Opening one eye a crack, you see Phoenix set one of the bubble teas down on a desk, flip Bob off, and leave the room.
“Love you,” she calls over her shoulder.
“I know,” Bob says. “Star Wars,” he offers you by way of explanation after you pull your shirt down and stand back up.
“You guys have known each other for a while, huh?”
“Work spouses ‘til we die. We’re the only ones who can stand each other, I’m afraid.” Bob tucks an errant strand of your hair back in its place. “Let’s get you back home. I hope your tour was educational. I just love learning new things.”
“It was,” you say, smiling despite yourself, and you stare at his hand all the way back to the parking lot, wondering what sort of mad courage you’d need to possess first before you had the guts to reach out and hold on.

I love how Eggman actually exhibits all the opposite behaviors and actions of being a good caring father in Frontiers in literally every way possible. Like everything he does with his selfish self centered approach and reasonings for coming around to Sage as a person and seeing her as his "daughter" is how not to be a father.
THAT'S the type of figure he is if any at all, the opposite of all the healthy and expected ways because that's how Dr. Egoman "I deserve the whole world and all the attention, power, and control and everything should be all about me" rolls! He's incapable of changing that mindset for anyone or anything and we don't see him develop out of this here.
I've gone over many times now about how he only praises Sage for her efficiency, only says he's proud of her when she does something for him, only praises her in ways that can praise himself as her creator/father, and how I love how Ian Flynn confirmed this shallow way of embracing the idea of the dynamic and valuing her to be the intention.
But here's another thing I wanna bring up because even in the couple of scenes that you may know that I'm still not so big of a fan of, at least in the English version, there's even some things I still like about them both- even in the English because while some of the dialogue in it could've been better, the same thing happens nonetheless.
So I still haven't said much about this scene but ever since I've had my perspective and opinion on the overall portrayal of Eggman in this game massively shifted for the better, this scene has grown on me. So oh boy here we go, I'm finally talking about it properly.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Regardless of how it was presented and the line was delivered in English (which I would've changed personally as it can be easily misinterpreted, even by me at first) he still let her go and sacrifice herself for him, once again to protect him and "fulfill [her] function"
From start to finish of Eggman talking about Sage in this game, or even further back if we're gonna include the prequel comic, the main thing he praises her for is for being created by him as a genius and for protecting/serving him efficiently.
This is the reason he praises her in the memos, from protecting him from hazards and carrying out his orders (but the second she strays he snaps at her) and ends up bragging that she's "loyal and efficient" as a reason to value and be proud of her. This is also the same reason he first compliments her to her face on screen as he says he's proud of her.
He values her for the ways he can benefit from beginning to end and the fact this never changes throughout the "development" is the reason he still lets her go so easily. He doesn't beg for her not to leave and risk his life to prevent this, he instead lets her go on her snicide mission to fulfill the function that she was created to have all along!
And why does Eggman want The End to be defeated? Because he couldn't harness and use it in the way he wanted, it was against him, and it was a threat to his life and the world he wants to take over and rule. This is the only reason he's ever helped save the world in any game, for his own ass and the planet that needs to exist to take over and rule.
He values his own life and the world over his "daughter" who he still allows to go and sacrifice herself to save them. Like everything in life, he puts himself and his desires first, just like he's been shown to in every single game. Because the whole point behind his character, behaviors, motives, evil and all is that he's deeply egotistical and selfish.
He let her go. He doesn't consider other options, he doesn't beg Sage not to go. He doesn't spend a moment taking any risk at his potential expense when his creation, his servant, his protector, presents an option that involves carrying out her true purpose that he never lost sight of the whole time in every single way he interacted with her.
I'm personally not a fan of this next line though, it just feels out of place with what's actually happening, which is one of the only ones I'd change about the English version now, aside from tiiiny memo things. I'm not a fan of this and it hasn't grown on me despite everything else because it just doesn't feel like him. But at least the overall context of the scene remains the same.
Tumblr media
But with everything I just described above prior, the Japanese version reflects all those points I made in this line so PERFECTLY.
Tumblr media
Eggman lets her go because while he's essentially sending her on a snicide mission, he still has a bit of faith that she might make it. And it's for no other reason than for the way that he sees her as a masterpiece. Once again, this bastard is incapable of praising her without praising himself, the creator which made her this masterpiece! It's fucking great.
So even though he doesn't 100% expect her to die, he's again still sending her out to danger which had the possibility but didn't try to prevent it because she's fulfilling her function and she's his masterpiece. So she should do what she was meant to all along in protecting him and saving him and the world he wants to rule, and believes she could because HE created her.
So JP >>>>>>> English for how it gets that second point across so clearly but I'm still happy that the context is at least the same in both regardless, I just think it should've been presented in a way in English that wasn't as easy to misinterpret. Japanese gets it across perfectly in comparison Imo
And right to the very end, Sage also stayed true to her function by protecting and keeping him safe like she was created and ordered to. When she thought she'd no longer be around to do it, she tried to deliver her wish for someone to carry on her role for her (like Sonic would though LOL) because she knows and accepts it's what he wants most.
Tumblr media
The only difference is that she just learned to apply feelings of love to it that she learned from Sonic and friends, it just made her even more loyal when emotion became involved. And that leads right back to why Eggman ever valued and praised her at all in the first place and stayed the same to the end.
But I gotta say I like the Japanese version of what Sage says in her sacrifice better for this dialogue:
Tumblr media
Because damn. Sage is still asking if he'd praise her, as if she's still not even certain. Why would she have to question this if Eggman was really such a good, loving, caring, selfless and genuine father figure. EXACTLY, because he isn't. We didn't see that happen in the game lol
I also really like how this uncertainty of Sage's also appears multiple times throughout her Dear Father song. With how it says "I hope you are not mad at me" because she isn't certain in getting unconditional love and praise from him, as he only praises her for when she does exactly as he asks for his own gain.
Tumblr media
Because even when she does try other options that still have his best interests in mind, he doesn't react well if she doesn't do it in the exact way he asked. Like when it came to suggesting working with Sonic as a solution which enraged him, then keeping him trapped in Cyber Space to keep him safe then trying to urge him to get back in which he responded with anger again. So she has a reason to be uncertain.
The song also acknowledges that she was trying her hardest to make him proud of her and that she knows to do that by protecting and serving him well. And look at the other lyrics also showing uncertainty and questioning of how Eggman feels about their relationship! "maybe we could be a family" and "hope that you feel the same" !!!!!!
Tumblr media
Then the most obvious case of uncertainty is when Sage asks if Sonic thinks Eggman cares about her, which I talked about more here.
Tumblr media
If Eggman was such a great and loving father towards Sage at any point in this story on screen or not, she wouldn't have to wonder and be so uncertain in this scene with Sonic, the sacrifice scene, and her song.
That's because Eggman's "love", praise, and value of her is conditional and shallow and this is seen all throughout the game. She's praised when she serves him well and he can find use and take pride in her but he can just as easily snap at her. This is exactly how the dynamic should be, the difference between Sage and Eggman's side of it is fascinating.
As for this next moment, I never had that much of a problem with it, even before my big shift in perspective that made me like it all much more. You can't see his face to see exactly how he's expressing himself in this moment but it makes perfect sense for him to be very disappointed in this loss, even though he let it happen to save himself and the world he wants to rule.
Tumblr media
Because he had so much pride in his genius efficient creation and what it could do for him, as loyal and efficient as he wishes in his creations. But not only did his plan go wrong but when he finally escaped Cyber Space, he barely got to put use to his creation to its full potential and he's already losing it.
But that's a short lived disappointment anyway as he has a determined look when he's immediately like "oh wait, I can do something about this actually" lol
Tumblr media
Then in the post credits scene, you can clearly see that he is indeed bringing her back with evil intent, as the sinister smile on his face says it all! He's going to get to put her to that potential after all.
So there are my new thoughts on those moments since my huge opinion and perspective shift! The more I analyze this dynamic and how it was handled in the actual game, the more I understand and love it for the accuracy and faithfulness to who Eggman really is 💜

You know what I find fascinating? In the books, the *instant* Curtain learns about Constance's psychic powers, he immediately begins plotting how he can use her. He reacts with delight, exclaiming, "Oh, what a useful little girl you are! I had no idea!" On multiple occasions, he demonstrates his intent and capability to use Constance's powers for his own gain by making her "verify" that his threats are truthful (and that he intends to follow through on them).
When the Ten Men are chasing after the children, there is a higher value placed on Constance's head than the other three children: "She's the greatest catch, at any rate," in TPD, as well as McCracken in Riddle of Ages asking, "Does that frighten you, ducky? To know that you're important to us?" So important that he attempts to trade the safety of the rest of the children for Constance. (Whether he intended to follow through on that promise is another matter.) Point is - her powers make her useful, her powers make her valuable, and Book Curtain and the Ten Men do not hesitate to exploit this.
What's fascinating to me is that we see none of this in the show. The reveal that Constance is psychic is met not with a sick delight, but more with, "Ah, dammit, I should've *known* the tiny girl was psychic. Rats." And then the conversation moves on! Even though Curtain had more pressing issues to deal with at the moment - namely, the return of his long-lost brother - Curtain doesn't even follow this up in Season 2. At no point does he show intent to use Constance's powers to further his own aims somehow. He never instructs Jeffers to give Constance "special attention" in any way.
In fact, the only person we see kidnap Constance for her powers is Garrison - and I would argue that Garrison was less fascinated with Constance's abilities and more so tormented by the dilemma of repairing and perfecting the Whisperer. Constance was the one to destroy the Whisperer; therefore, she needed Constance to take the new and improved Whisperer for a test run, make sure it was failproof. Not necessarily because she wanted Constance's psychic powers to improve the Whisperer somehow. Her improvements were all her own, all science; she just needed a bear to test out the newest prototype of bear-proof packaging.
And I wonder what caused this change between the worlds in the way Constance is treated. Is it the changes made to Curtain's personality? Is it the fact that he has a child in this universe somehow? Is it because Constance was already under his Happiness control when he comes face to face with her in Season 2? (Although you'd think that he'd mention her powers on the phone to Jeffers if this was solely the reason.) Is it the fact that he's too focused on his brother? This seems unlikely to me, as Show Curtain seems to treat the children with a sort of respect as enemies in Season 2, despite the fact that they're eleven. He constantly glosses over the involvement of the adults to insist that Jeffers apprehend the children, so clearly they're important to him. But they're all equally important and threatening to him for their ability to somehow, inexplicably outwit him - not the fact that one of them has psychic powers.
Anyways, I'm not sure where I'm going with this, or if there's even a reason we can pinpoint for this difference. I just think it's a really interesting change and really serves to differentiate Show Curtain's character from the books.

byron + 1, 2, 5, 24,
Oh fuck yeah I was hoping someone would do this. This is going to be a massive wall of text and I'm sorry but also I'm really not. You have unleashed the infodump dragon and it's not leaving until it's run off some of its zoomies.
Why do you like or dislike this character?
You know a fun fact about me is that I was on Team Byron Disliker when I first started Season 5 just due to what I'd heard through pop culture osmosis. I even made a post to that effect after watching a couple of his episodes (deleted now because I was sick of seeing it in my notes) that got some circulation in the fandom. But the further I got into that arc and the more I thought about him, the less I saw what I expected to see when I started. Instead I saw someone who, though flawed, spent most of the time he was on screen trying to be gentle and compassionate and trying to protect his people in a situation that was hell bent on making it as hard as possible for him to do those things.
I do think he has a manipulative streak, and I do think he's the type to occasionally do very hurtful things because he believes he's doing so for the right reasons (see for example that fucking "doesn't it feel nice to be asked" scene between him and Lyta in The Paragon of Animals, even as a Lyta/Byron shipper that makes me SO ANGRY because that point could be made in LITERALLY any other way that didn't involve demeaning her and shouting at her, I get that you're pissed off at the people who did that to her but taking it out on her isn't gonna help anyone so stop) but those flaws when combined with his genuine good intentions and abundance of care are fascinating.
A big part of why I think people dislike him as a character is because those flaws are presented as an immutable Fact Of Who He Is, which, yeah, I can see why someone would find that insufferable, but I like writing character growth and he deserves some.
Tl;dr, I like him because he's complicated. I dislike the way canon never seemed to want to grapple with those complications.
Favorite canon thing about this character?
That scene with the one guy in Downbelow. You know the one. Letting someone punch you repeatedly because you want to teach them a lesson about how finding a target to beat up on isn't actually going to solve their problems is... genuinely fucking baller and I wish we'd gotten to see more of that side of him.
Also that thing with Lyta in Strange Relations that's basically a mutual "I'm not overextending myself YOU'RE overextending yourself! Please slow down and rest 🥺" is probably what made me ship them as hard as I do. Dipping out of canon and into my fic for a second, but that interaction is so different from their first interaction that I kind of have to wonder if someone talked to him about the way he treated her. (I may have written a missing scene about that but it needs some fine tuning before I feel good about posting it.)
What's the first song that comes to mind when you think about them?
oh my god!!! so many. SO MANY. But uhhhh I can narrow it down to like four?
Runaway by The National as a general theme song
I, Carrion (Icarian) by Hozier as a soft and sad song for him and Lyta
The Deserter's Song by Radical Face as a backstory reveal song
New World Coming (any version but I like the one by Nina Simone best because. Come on. It's Nina fucking Simone how can you top that) because I'm almost certain it was one of the songs JMS pulled from when he was writing That Song For That Scene.
What other character from another fandom of yours that reminds you of them?
I've been saying this from the very beginning— The Signless from Homestuck. (Yes, I'm a Homestuck enjoyer. Sorry.) I just love my pacifist resistance leaders with feral partners and tragic endings okay.

anyway, here are my qsmp election thoughts:
-I think q!Cellbit/Forever are the most qualified in terms of adequate game knowledge, desire to drive forward the lore, community support, and passion for the position. HOWEVER as a viewer it is the most boring choice. I enjoy qsmp for the serious lore AND the goofy funny stuff, and I think that insaneduo are a little too serious for it to be an interesting outcome. I also think that while being president might motivate their charcters in an interesting way, the aftermath of losing the presidency might be even more interesting and could start a q!Forever villain arc which I personally would enjoy a lot
-q!Baghera would be a good choice for her heart and passion, and it would be a good move for her character, but I think she fundamentally lacks the presence needed to convince people to vote for her. If she was able to take more control over the debates and presented her points with more confidence she would be a more formidable opponent
-q!Etoiles would be an extremely good pick due to his knowledge of the land itself and the mods. He is also extremely charismatic and everyone seems to love him, despite him not being overly interactive with the others on the island. But, like q!Baghera, he lacks a presence necessary to be president, and because he is generally more comfortable on the sidelines I don't see him pulling the necessary votes
-q!Mike, q!Felps, and q!BBH would be good choices if not for the other candidates who are such powerhouses. These three simply fall into the background. I think they work more as counsel members/those in the presidential cabinet because they work well as sources of knowledge/power/etc., just not as leaders themselves
-ElQuackity would be the choice that I think presents the most narrative opportunity, but I think it is something that has been seen before (the bad intentioned candidate wins, usually by unfair means, leaving the rest of the characters in a state of despair but motivating them to fight back against a common enemy). Further, he hasn't presented much in the debates other than defending himself (though I feel this is mostly because the federation is using him as a pawn and they have programmed him with as little information as necessary, leaving his presidential promises vague). If the story is going as people expect, he will win no matter what, but I would also love to see q!Quackity somehow come back/regain control and stop things before it all goes to hell (because it will 100% go to hell if ElQuackity is elected)
-Gegg is by far (and I do not say this lightly) the best choice for president. I know it sounds wild, but Gegg is the candidate that presented the most level-headed and dogmatically coherent arguments in the debate, all of which actually would help the island from a lore prespective. His based views with his slimy goopy exterior makes him the best choice that is a perfect balance of serious lore potential and silliness. Of course he won't win because he is fucking Gegg (unless we get a full Geggolution and he can speak bc there is no way they are electing a president who has to write on signs), but I think he genuinely has the votes and the overall love by those on the island
-Now we come to q!Foolish. I know he seems like the purely silly candidate, and most of how he has approached the election has been from a strictly comedic relief standpoint, BUT I think he is the best candidate to win with a real chance of doing so. I think narratively it presents a perfect opportunity for q!Foolish to go full villain if he wanted, or to generally develop as a character as he takes on responsibility. He is on the server a ton, everyone loves him, and he has one of the strongest members as his partner. Not only that, he is generally knowledgeable about the game and the land, he knows about and is involved in the lore, and he is first and foremost creatively wired. He will offer the silliness that the qsmp needs while having those closest to him (like q!BBH and q!Cellbit) who are very lore-focused and can push him in certain directions to make lore decisions. The only fault I find is that q!Foolish is an english speaker, and I would love if another culture/language was represented in such a position, but it isn't a deal breaker for me. Truly I think electing q!Foolish would be the most narratively interesting choice while also allowing for the qsmp to stay silly, which is one of the largest appeals and what many creators who are more lore-focused come to the server for

There’s no me without you (9)
draco malfoy x fem!reader
summary: you and draco grow further apart
warnings: swearing, angst, fluff - i think that’s it. I didn’t proof read this so please let me know if there’s any mistakes <3
Next chapter
Tumblr media
When you awoke the next morning you had to be certain that what you witnessed was actually real. Potter and Greengrass were hooking up. How long had it even been going on for? You expected to feel a sense of pride and snide-like emotions, that you were the one to discover them and you were only person who knew of their tryst, as far as you were aware. Instead you did not feel anything except overwhelming nausea and guilt.
You were desperate to knock astoria off her smug sliver spooned pedestal. But on the other hand, Draco deserved to not to know and to be betrayed. Though, he too deserved the humiliation of the whole school knowing that the Draco Malfoy has been cheated on twice now, not only by Parkinson but also by Astoria, his real to-be-fiancé who has been secretly shagging the person he hates most in the world, saint Harry Potter. You laid there thinking about the look on Draco’s face if he were to find out, priceless.
His social status would crash and burn. Essentially he’d be a social repellent you imagined the things people would say “Malfoy can’t keep a girlfriend, scares them away” “He’s obviously not packing.” “definitely awful in bed no wonder two of his birds cheated.” you actually felt terrible even thinking about people making mean remarks about him. So instead you dragged yourself into your bathroom and got ready for the long day ahead.
Looking in the mirror you only thought more about the situation you found yourself in. If you did decide to tell the whole of Hogwarts and their mums about Astoria and Harry’s sex-capades, you’d hurt Harry in the process even though he was wrongly chatting up ginny too, so that would also create a whole host of problems between Harry, Ron, George and the other Weasleys if they found Potter was two timing their sister. They were all your friends, but at the end of the day, this was more about Astoria and Draco than any other confounding variables involved.
It was all so conflicting, Who’d believe you anyway? you could end up telling whoever you wanted but it’d only go wrong for you unless you did not have proof of Astoria and Harry’s adultering. People would just make assumptions that you’re just falsely accusing them just so you can get back together with Draco, though you have zero intention of ever doing that again.
However, spreading rumours and bitching, even if true, wasn’t like you at all. You were the kind Slytherin the one who never made fun of anyone or belittled fellow students. But you guess things change when people you trusted and held loyal, hurt you. You were doing what you had to do to survive the rest of the school year.
Walking through the common room forgetting to tie your shoelaces was stupid. But you were late for quidditch practice so you’d forgot which caused you to crash into a student. “For fuck sake” your broom fell on the floor and you heard a huff come from the person you had fallen into. “Excuse you.” the voice sneered. Looking up you met the pointed stare of Astoria who had entered the common room and funnily enough, she didn’t look as perfect as usual.
Her hair was slightly out of place and her makeup lightly smudged. She had definitely come from a certain Harry Potter’s dorm trying to hide her walk of shame but you knew better. Still you had to hand it to her for keeping the utmost composure “Bad day already y/l/n?” she sneered. You scoffed “Hardly Greengrass, you’re just clumsy. I must say though, it’s rather an early hour to only just be entering the common room…rough night? couldn’t sleep?” you raised your eyebrows defensively.
Panic flashed across her face before her lips curved into a menacing smirk “I was actually going to get some breakfast for me and Draco to take back to his dorm. You see we had a rather….draining night, if you get what i mean. But unfortunately they ran out of coffee. Oh well more nefarious activities for him and I to get back to.”
you nearly laughed out loud from how she pathetically lied straight to your face. You played along nevertheless “Of course Astoria! I was just on my way to visit Harry, he seems to have lots of sleepless nights too these days. I’ve been trying to brew some sleeping potions for him. Oh well, have a good day.” her face went white as you mentioned Harry and you smiled wickedly at her before walking away.
Astoria rushed towards Draco’s dorm hurriedly entering it. She gazed towards the bed where the blonde lay asleep. She studied his gorgeous face as he mumbled in what seemed like a rather nice dream. Astoria had a mind to softly wake him and that was until she made sense of his mumbling “Yes….oh….y/n.” he was having a very nice dream…about her…about you. “Draco!” she roared jolting the blonde straight up. “Oh my god Astoria. Get out!” he shrieked. “I’m your fiancée idiot I can come in when i want.” she crossed her arms. “Argh, what do you want?” Draco put his head in his hands.
“I came to ask if you’d like to join me for breakfast. We have wedding arrangements to discuss.” Astoria clasped her hands behind her back. “That is not happening for another 2 years. Now please leave, I have quidditch practice and it’s the final game of the season in a week. I’m already late for practice and I just want some peace for merlin’s sake.” he remarked harshly. “Whatever Draco.” she said as she left the room, slamming the door behind her.
Meanwhile, on the pitch you were met by Blaise who gave you a soft smile “Y/N it’s good to have you back.” “Thank you.” you nodded sincerely before the other boys came out. Theo picked you up and spin you around making you giggle, putting you down in front of him “Yeah it is, Goyle’s been dragging the team down. Not to mention Zabini got hit with a bludger by Malfoy before he crashed to ground with Zabini overestimating his throw. We’ve been a mess without you.” this made Blaise chuckle “fuck off” and goyle rolled his eyes. “In that case, I’m glad to be back too.” you beamed at Theo.
The moment was cut short by a just-appearing Draco emerging onto the field “Are you all going to stand there like daises? We’ve got a match to prepare for.” Theo turned to him “Wow okay well look who decided to show up. And you’re the one telling us to get a move on? It’s your own fault that you can’t keep your morning glory in your pants with Astoria.”
Your face remained unfaltered by Theo’s remark even though it made your heart twinge and instead you laughed it off with the other boys. “That is not what happened I overslept, Nott.” Draco scowled at you in particular a brewing hurt within him that you laughed but he did not manage to solicit a reaction from you when he did so. Although you did believe that he overslept due to your previous encounter with Astoria and her adulterous walk of shame. But he doesn’t need to know that.
“Don’t lecture us when your are the one who’s late. Be a captain Draco, not a whore. Now go to your post you’re pissing me off.” Flint spat at him, making the blondes brows furrow in annoyance. You hate to admit it but seeing Draco be dismissed and dragged by the team made you smug. Theo slung his arm around you “I know we haven’t spoken a lot but I just want to let you know we’re on your side when it comes to you and Draco. Most of the boys are behind you too. He’s right prick.” you kissed his cheek “Thank you Theo, it’s okay I’m doing better than I was. All i’m focused on now is kicking Gryffindor’s ass in the final game.” he kissed your forehead in return “That’s our girl.”
Draco stood there feeling very embarrassed and things only felt worse when he saw your close interaction with Theo, still wishing it was him despite the fact that he knew you loathed him and that it was his own fault. Being split into two teams Practice began and you were on the same team as Marcus and Theo and then Draco was with Blaise and the other half of the boys, opposing. Your team were currently winning you had played 3 games already and caught the snitch each time. “This is hardly fair Flint, your team have Y/L/N and Nott.” adrian called out to Marcus as they raced one another for the snitch. “The teams are fair Pucey, your lot just need to play better.” he insisted before calling a time out.
You were all very sore and tired by this point standing around on pitch discussing tactics before one more practice game. “Can we mix up the teams again please?” Goyle and Adrian begged. Draco frowned “The teams are fine we’ll win the next one. Flint just happens to be on a lucky streak today.” Theodore grimaced at Draco “You realise it’s been Y/N who’s caught the snitch each time.”
“Flint is on that team. He’s our best player so it’s easy for anyone to catch the snitch.” The slytherin prince huffed. You’d had enough of Draco’s antics “Marcus go on the other team.” you looked towards him “No Y/N you do not need to prove anything. You are one of the best players in the team. Actually one of the best players this school had ever seen. Somebody has just pissed in Draco’s cereal this morning so he’s decided to be a dick about this.” Draco’s mouth was agape, ready to fireback when you spoke before he got the chance.
“Go on the opposite team okay? Let’s just see maybe it’ll stop his whining.” you gave Draco a scowl before walking off and flying up to your post. The game started and you were ready to embarrass Draco once again. You had dodged 4 bludgers already, one kindly aimed straight for your face by Malfoy himself. Deep down, this was Draco’s way of dealing with his emotions. He hoped in pretending to hate you he would eventually stop loving you. So far, he was failing miserably at that and at this current quidditch practice game.
Unsurprisingly you caught the snitch which left Draco to wallow in his own humiliation. Once you all made it back onto the field the boys (minus Draco) praised you. They all stood before Theo sneered “Satisfied malfoy?”. “Oh piss off, the lot of you.” the blonde spat before sulking away. “Maybe your the problem Draco. You seem to enjoy fucking things up quite regularly.” you shouted after him. He didn’t turn back or respond but he heard you and blinked away his tears.
“Don’t worry about him. Let’s worry about the game. Which we have a pretty good chance in hell of winning.” Marcus flashed a dazzling smile and nudged you. “This is a team effort everyone played well.” Theo smirked “You know Flint, it wouldn’t be a bad idea to replace Malfoy as a captain.” he smirked back at him “Not a bad idea Nott.” you laughed and rolled your eyes before saying goodbye and heading back to your dorm.
In your mind Draco needed to leave you well alone and get on with marrying Astoria. The quicker the better. Before your could think anymore about it you heard your door open “Y/N?” you turned to be met with the sweet face of George. You sighed and fell into his arms. “Hey come on, love. What’s wrong?” you shook your head into his chest “Have a guess.” “Draco.” he said plainly. You nodded “Are you sure you don’t want me to shave his head during the night or put puking potion in his pumpkin juice?” George raised his brows playfully “No it’s okay.” you giggled before he took your hand and you made your way to Snape’s class.
You and George took your places and opened your textbooks. You cringed as Harry walked in and took his place next to you. You didn’t even know how to talk to him after seeing him and Astoria together and it didn’t help when her and Draco emerged into the classroom. Harry followed Astoria’s movements as they found a spot in the classroom. “Can I help you scarhead?” Draco spat at Harry. He rolled his eyes getting out his textbook “I’m talking to you potter. Why are you staring? you jealous or something? Poor saint Potter no girlfriend no money…no parents.”
Astoria cackled along making Harry cower his further. You felt sorry for Harry, really. As insufferable as Astoria is, he obviously liked her and she was clearly using him. And when she laughed along at dracos pathetic insult you’d about had it with him. “Haven’t you had enough Draco? Stop inflicting your insecurities on other people just because your own life is miserable and unfulfilling. Just shutup.”
Draco’s face almost softened in a twisted way before he just turned away and his lovey fiancée interjected for him “Oh close your mouth y/l/n. No one cares. Can Potter not fight his own battles?” Greengrass spat and you sneered at her in return before she too, turned back to her desk. “Thank you.” Harry said with a pleading smile. The rest of class went surprisingly smoothly before the bell rand and George took your hand leading you to the hall for lunch.
You took your usual spot next to him opposite Harry and Ron. This time, you were ready to spot any fleeting looks and gestures between Harry and Astoria. It wasn’t long before you spotted his eyes mischievously lingering on the slytherin table whilst he drank from his goblet. Hermione joined the table placing herself on the other side of harry and began rambling on about her recent debacle with Snape and how he had gifted her an unfair grade in her OWLS exams.
The only people really listening was Ron and George, you were focused on harry and the fact that his gaze had flicked from his plate to the Slytherin table at least 50 times, knowing he was looking directly at Astoria. Before long, Harry got up and left the table excusing himself to the bathroom. Only minutes later you turned around to see that Astoria had also left her place. “Hey, I’m just gonna get some air.” you said to George, arising from your seat. “Oh. Is everything okay, love? Do you want me to come with you?” he touched your hand gently. You shook your head “No. But thank you, you’re sweet.”
You sped out the hall, tiptoeing into the corridor to find exactly what you expected, Harry and Astoria. Although, this interaction was anything but a scandalous rendezvous. You hid behind a pillar just close enough to hear their conversation. “I don’t know Astoria. You’re always with him. How do you think it makes me feel when you’re laughing along with him and his pathetic, offensive jokes? Those are my fucking parents he’s talking about. Voldemort killed them. It may be hilarious to him considering he’s probably one them but the rest of the school don’t seem to find it particularly amusing. In fact, the rest of the school fucking hate him. I don’t even know how Y/N tolerated him.” he whisper-shouted.
You flinched at the mention of your name. Astoria rolled her eyes at him “Why do you have to bring her into this Harry? Besides, his jokes mean nothing and you know I’d rather be with you. Draco won’t even touch me and he doesn’t even like talking to me. Merlin, he doesn’t really seem to like talking to anyone at all these days.” he sighed shaking his head “I’m sorry about that. Look Tori, all I’m saying is that when he was with Y/N he didn’t insult me once. Maybe you could talk to him.”
Astoria put her hand on her forehead in irritation “We’ve talked about this so many times Harry, you know I can’t do that. He’ll be suspicious, he already lashes out at me for even speaking to him.” Harry furrowed his brows, getting angrier “Then why are with him Astoria? You say he won’t talk to you, touch you, look at you. You could walk away from this, you have that choice. But you don’t, you continue to stay with him, why? You could be happy with me. We could be together publicly instead of hiding us like a dirty little secret. Do you realise that makes me feel like shit to see you with him?”
“You don’t understand. There’s no point me trying to explain. Just know that as much as I want things to be different they can’t be. Okay? I’m sorry.” She turned away from him making you edge further behind the pillar. Harry spun her back to face him “Hey, come on. I’m sorry too. I know this isn’t easy for you either. I love you Tori.” The gryffindor saint said to her. She responded in kissing him and before things could escalate any further, you decided to leave not wanting to witness what they were going to do.
You took your place back, next to George and he smiled placing his hand on the small of your back. “Sorry i was lightheaded. All good now.” you smiled. Soon after, Harry came back looking rather disheveled. “Everything okay then?” you said cryptically. His eyes widened and worry flashed in his eyes “Uh yeah, I just went to the bathroom.” you raised your eyebrows “Oh okay. You were just a long time is all.”
Harry didn’t get the chance to respond before the booming voice of Dumbledore filled the hall. “Good afternoon, students. I am hoping you are all well today. I am aware that we are all eager and excited, waiting in anticipation for the upcoming quidditch match final between Gryffindor and Slytherin. However I do have some unfortunate news. It is not within my wishes to worry any of you, but there have been sightings of dementors in the vicinity surrounding the school. We advise you to stay vigilant and curfew has been reduced by an hour. Any students spotted outside of their dorms after 9:30pm will receive a revoking of 10 housepoints.”
students began to uproar against the new rules. “That’s rubbish!” George and Fred shouted along with many other students making you and Hermione laugh. “Silence!” Dumbledore yelled “That is the end of matter.” the room went quiet. “Now, in other news and lighter matters we have a new student joining us today.” You found it strange that Dumbledore was adding a new student at the end of term. But hey, who were you to question it?
“He has been placed in Slytherin. So, we hope that the slytherin students will do their best to make him feel welcome.” You looked towards your table and made awkward eye contact with Draco before swiftly looking away towards Theo, who shrugged.
“So without further ado, give a warm welcome to our newest student, Matteo Riddle.”
hey matteo i love you GUYS IM SO SORRY OMG THIS TOOK ME FOREVER UNACCEPTABLY LONG. i love you all forgive me I apologise a thousand times. I’m sorry ik this chapter doesn’t have loads of substance and is a bit shit let’s not lie. I hope you enjoy it anyway my lovelies 💓

“Accordingly, I have decided to defer our repayment of the sums owed the Holy Faith and the Iron Bank of Braavos until war's end."
"Your Grace," Pycelle said in a quavering voice, "this will cause more trouble than you know, I fear. The Iron Bank . . ." ". . . remains on Braavos, far across the sea. They shall have their gold, maester. A Lannister pays his debts."  "The Braavosi have a saying too." Pycelle's jeweled chain clinked softly. "The Iron Bank will have its due, they say." "The Iron Bank will have its due when I say they will. Until such time, the Iron Bank will wait respectfully. (Cersei, AFFC)
as regent to tommen, cersei decides to defer on the iron thrones loan to the iron bank. the iron throne itself has no money (thanks bobby b!) the only person to caution her against this is pycelle but she does not listen. she figures theres a sea between her and the bank and they cannot hurt her. she sasses the iron bank’s representative noho dimittis and makes it clear the iron throne has no intention of paying off their debt anytime soon.
"I put no faith in these Myrish bankers," Ser Kevan told his good-father. "You had best prepare to go to Braavos." Ser Harys did not look happy at the prospect. "If I must. But I say again, this trouble is not of my doing." "No. It was Cersei who decided that the Iron Bank would wait for their due. Should I send her to Braavos?" (Epilogue, ADWD)
after kevan assumes the regency he sends harys swyft to braavos to treat with the iron bank in person in an effort to smooth over what cersei has done. they cannot raise taxes out of fear of rebellion and are reluctant to pay off the debt with lannister gold.
"I thought the crossbow fitting. You shared so much with Lord Tywin, why not that? Your niece will think the Tyrells had you murdered, mayhaps with the connivance of the Imp. The Tyrells will suspect her. Someone somewhere will find a way to blame the Dornishmen. Doubt, division, and mistrust will eat the very ground beneath your boy king, whilst Aegon raises his banner above Storm's End and the lords of the realm gather round him." (Epilogue, ADWD)
before kevan can do much else varys kills him to further undermine the lannisters. he wants cersei to destroy herself to clear the way for “aegon”. nobody will suspect varys of the murder instead they will all point fingers at each other further destabilizing the realm. varys works with illyrio to install a blackfyre on the iron throne. varys’ background is mysterious but he did, allegedly, apprentice with a mummer’s troupe as a child.
Shivering, she sat up in bed and ran a hand across her scalp. Stubble bristled against her palm. I need to shave before Izembaro sees. Mercy, I’m Mercy, and tonight I’ll be raped and murdered.
This would make trouble for the Sealord and the envoy with the chicken on his chest, she did not doubt. She would think about that later, though. (Arya, TWOW)
once the lannister party arrive in braavos they are intercepted by arya stark, apprenticing with a troupe of mummers, who lures one of the guards away and kills him. it seems she had a mission to “murder” mercy and frame the westerosi visitors for the crime. this is what the faceless men instructed her to do - on the iron bank’s behalf. this frame up will be used to deny the lannisters. the iron bank is now actively plotting against them in the fight for the iron throne. they have no intention of relenting.
Tycho Nestoris had impressed him as cultured and courteous, but the Iron Bank of Braavos had a fearsome reputation when collecting debts. [...] When princes failed to repay the Iron Bank, new princes sprang up from nowhere and took their thrones. (Jon, ADWD)
the iron bank did, however, loan money to lord commander of the night’s watch jon snow to help buy supplies and food. jon references the very plot that his little sister is directly involved in with the bank and the throne.
"The Iron Bank has opened its coffers to me. You will collect their coin and hire ships and sellswords. A company of good repute, if you can find one. The Golden Company would be my first choice, if they are not already under contract. Seek for them in the Disputed Lands, if need be. But first hire as many swords as you can find in Braavos, and send them to me by way of Eastwatch. Archers as well, we need more bows."
"Oh, and take the Stark girl with you. Deliver her to Lord Commander Snow on your way to Eastwatch." Stannis tapped the parchment that lay before him. "A true king pays his debts." (Theon, TWOW)
but the big agreement is with stannis baratheon. he got a loan from the iron bank so it would seem stannis is their new pick to take the iron throne. stannis has sent justin massey to collect the gold from braavos and hire sellswords (but not the GC bc they’ve already joined “aegon”)......after he drops off jeyne p. who is posing as “arya stark” at the wall. which, of course, will not be a safe place to leave her bc jon is dead so jeyne will travel to braavos

hi sarah! i wanted to ask your thoughts on burrich, so far. i read all of ROTE without checking the tag at all because i wanted to avoid spoilers, checked it immediately after i finished the last book, and was kind of surprised by people's opinions regarding his relationship with fitz (and molly)
i have mixed feelings about burrich. I do think he did a fairly good job with what he was given, though there are points of his parenting i could critique lmao. you would be right to guess that my main problem with burrich's character does have to do with molly, but I do give them both some leeway. I get where hobb was going by putting them together -- they were both mourning fitz and were put in the hard position of wanting to do what was best for the baby. It made sense for burrich to marry molly if she was willing so the baby would grow up with a father, and not be presented as a bastard as fitz was - fitz didn't want that and neither did any of the parties involved. I do wish that hobb had kept the relationship between them platonic though, and the marriage as just a cover for keeping nettle's parentage a secret. I wouldn't go as far as to say that what burrich did was grooming, but it did give me the ick. from a thematic literary standpoint though, with how hobb engages in cycles in her writing, it makes sense.
Chivalry left, and burrich was given the responsibility of raising fitz out of his love and devotion for chivalry. fitz, following in his fathers footsteps, could not be there for his child and again, burrich was there to pick up the pieces as he felt a sense of duty towards fitz when he thinks he failed him as a father figure, resulting in fitz' death. Due to this, he probably feels he failed not only fitz, but chivalry as well, as he promised to protect his son, and the only way to rectify this is to protect and raise fitz' daughter. To ensure that he doesn't fail again, he fully immerses himself in the role of fatherhood and finds love with molly. the cycles go even further when you remember burrich was in love with patience before she was married to chivalry, so I see this as Hobb completing and ending the cycle in a way. This is kinda rambly so I hope this makes some sort of sense. Like i said, i have complicated feelings about burrich. I think he did the best he could given the situation, and his intention were always good, though he has some unresolved trauma regarding the wit that he inflicted upon his own children and could greatly benefit from some therapy lmao. I get why what happened with molly played out the way it did from a thematic standpoint, but I wish it was done through a platonic lens rather than a romantic one.

Fantasy Invader gets a disciple!
Recently @diaphin93 went into it with @xenofan19 in this post. I had a few points to add, though I refrained from just reblogging it because the post is already hella long.
Lonato was a minior lord who had mabey a couple hundred people who he multiplied into getting killed for his “revange” hardly a popular uprising but yay lie if you want.
He still quite clearly had the ardent support of his people on his march. I believe “multiplied” is meant to be “manipulated”, but there’s no evidence of this in the game.
Further down, Xeno says:
We actually see that he used and his people in his goal and gained surport from the westen church whitch was working with the Agarthans and Edelgard. Hell its impilled that Edelgard set this whole thing up just to have a look at Serios tomb showing how little she values the lifes of the common people.
The Western Church were working with the Agarthans? Where’s the evidence of that?
And yes, Edelgard did all that to get into the tomb of Seiros - to prove it’s empty. Edelgard knows Seiros is actually alive because she’s Rhea (she says that Thales that the bones not being there are “news”, suggesting that she allowed him to believe the plan was just to grab more Nabatean bones). The Sword of the Creator being there was what surprised her.
That said, we don’t know whether involving Lonato specifically was Edelgard’s intent. The WC Bishop takes credit for involving him in Ashe and Catherine’s paralogue,
Tumblr media
In any case, the last point has been addressed many many times; Edelgard is killing a few now to spare another millennia of suffering in the future. The bandage has to be ripped off.
Edelgard ending shows that Hubert hunts down and get rid of uprisings and rebellions showing off Edelgard oppressive nature.
Wow, Elincia’s a fuckin’ tyrant then, isn’t she? Part 2 of Radiant Dawn is all about her getting rid of an uprising and a rebellion that unfortunately had support from the common people.
But seriously, suppressing rebellions before they can start is tyrannical? C’mon, snap out of it. Also,
Tumblr media
Damn boy, VW Byleth’s such an oppressor.
Now I’m sure the defense here is going to be that Edelgard was suppressing civilian revolts against her while Byleth is stopping uprisings from Imperial nobility or the remnants of the military, but there’s no evidence for either. The Hubert ending that Edelgard’s detractors like to get upset about states,
In reality, their nights were filled with fierce combat against rebels, assassins, and those who slither in the dark.
Which is pretty vague, and really just seems to be a catch-all for various people who would want to break the post-war peace.
One member of the church thinks Dedue might be responsible not because of his race but because he is from a nation that was believed to have killed King Lambert. This in no way shows the church is xenophobic, just that one guy doesn’t trust Dudue because of past events.
It’s not just one guy, and it’s not even just Duscur.
From chapter 4:
Tumblr media
Also from chapter 4:
Tumblr media
From Chapter 6:
Tumblr media
Claude makes claims about the church that are never actually proven in game and he even says in VW that the teachings of the church are not xenophobic. Claude and Dimitri surport in Hopes makes no sense and is even disproved by the games own lore as well 90% of Claude claims come out of nowhere and have zero evidence.
Yeah but here’s the thing, in VW it’s Lorenz, who knows Fodlan and the church better than Claude, who says it. Now yes, Claude disagrees with him, but the circumstances in VW are night and day from GW. In VW, Claude is rather brazenly looking to use the church’s influence and the Knights of Seiros, through Byleth, for his benefit. It’s natural then that he would be interested in brushing aside the worst of the church’s excesses: not only does he want them on his side, he has the perfect person to take over and fix the church’s problems.
Dimitri and Claude surport is poorly written in a secret chapter that ignores the canon all of the routes so sorry if I don’t take it with any facts definitely when Claude says nonsense that he never mentions before or after the event.
Honestly this just reads to me like you don’t like what Hopes had to say about the church so you’re refusing to listen to it...
Edelgard  is willing working with that force and has shown a clear preference for the nobility system you claim she is trying to take down so much that Hopes shows she gives them special treatment and works ageist the common people.
Oh christ, don’t listen to Fantasy Invader. I mean it. Other sources of anti-Edelgard takes will say correct things on occasion, but he specifically doesn’t ever seem to have a clue what he’s talking about.
I’ve gone over his source on the point you’re making, he completely misinterpreted the line and forgot which character even said the offending sentence in question.
More here.
Like Edelgard own ending shows that she doesn’t make the changes you speak off
What?
As the new Adrestian emperor, Edelgard dedicated her life to reshaping the delicate political structure of Fódlan. With tireless work and great sacrifice, she reformed the class system to ensure a free and independent society for all. In her later years, she entrusted her life's work to a worthy successor before finally vanishing from the public eye.
It’s rather broadly spoken, yes, but it says she did the reforms.
Duscur was a flause flags operation carried out by Edelgard own allies and only the westen lords with most of the Kingdom not being involved.
It doesn’t matter that only a few of the Kingdom Lords were involved; they still conspired in regicide. The important point here is that since they did with it Lambert, they’d do it again with Dimitri if necessary.
Edelgard also never tried to help the people of Duscur and has zero plans or goals to help them simple because they are not form Fodlan so don’t matter to her.
Like Edelgard comes off worse in that situation then either the Kingdom or Church as unlike them she never even tries to help the people of Duscur.
How would she help the people of Duscur? She’s an Adrestian princess/emperor. It was the Faerghans who committed a genocide. To help the people of Duscur she’d have to take over the country first. You know, that thing you get mad at her about.
Or what, do you think she’d have any success by going, “actually, I know the people of Duscur didn’t kill King Lambert, and I know this because the actual perpetrator told me! N-no, I can’t actually support this claim...”
People didn’t listen to Dimitri when he said the people of Duscur were innocent, and he was there at the time. Who on earth is going to listen to the princess of another country who was on the other side of the continent at the time?
Lastly, on the point about her having no plans to help them, just because nothing is said of the people of Duscur in CF or SB doesn’t mean Edelgard has no plans for them. They, too, are part of the oppressed peoples she hopes to uplift. Only AM and AG focus on Duscur, because it’s intrinsically tied to Dimitri’s character plot. Much like how the Faerghan and Leicesterian routes don’t really have much to say about Brigid.
And lastly, yes, the Tragedy of Duscur was the assassination attempt planned by the Agarthans and instigated with the support of the Western lords. But the tragedy of Duscur was when the people of Faerghus went full Faerghan Revenge mode and launched a genocide of the people of Duscur. The Agarthans didn’t mind-control the people of Faerghus to do that, they did it on their own.
And yet neither Dimitri’s fans nor AM or AG seem interested in addressing the point. Dimitri only ever seeks to punish the nobles who were behind the Tragedy, but there’s never any word of any actual repentance from the Faerghan troops who did the tragedy. It’s bizarre how it seems like the two events cannot be decoupled in the minds of the writers or Edelgard’s detractors, as though the Faerghans going full Revenge Brain Mode and genociding an entire people because they think they killed their king was just the inevitable outcome of Lambert being assassinated. It was like mud slides just naturally following a fierce rainstorm due to the physics involved, rather than the result of Faerghus’s culture of honoring and avenging the dead over the living.
But then again AM, AG, and most of all Edelgard’s detractors, are not interested in criticizing the flaws of Faerghus’s culture.
Lol you do know it could be argued that Edelgard starts a war of faith in Hopes as she wants her new state church to become the main one whitch would grant her more religious power in Fodlan whitch is actually brought up in AG.
Oh yeah, you’re definitely listening too much to Fantasy Invader...
Hey, did you know Fantasy Invader thinks this banner:
Tumblr media
Is symbolic for this banner:
Tumblr media
Despite them clearly looking completely different?
Anyways, yeah, the only thing we hear about the Southern Church in AG is that Gilbert and Gautier just vaguely don’t like the sounds of what they’re preaching, and seriously fuck both those men. If they think it’s bad, it can only be good. Their stopped clock had its minute hand ripped off.
She is even more obsessed over Byleth then Rhea but never actually opens up to them and right up to the end of the game lies to control Byleth. You can try and lie and claim how Dimitri and Rhea would be worse but the game shows how Edelgard is far more toxic partner.
Yeah, get back to me when Edelgard steals an unconscious Byleth away into her room for an indeterminate period of time to give them a lap pillow treatment and then comes just shy of sexually assaulting them...
Edelgard doesn’t tell Byleth what to think or what to believe. In fact she frequently just asks questions of Byleth throughout White Clouds to try to get them to consider the world and their place in it more clearly.
Dimitri spent 5 years defending his people from being slaughtered by Edelgard as she was wiping out entire villages simple because they refuse to bow to her
Gonna need evidence of that, chief.

AITA for separating from my (now ex) groom to protect her?
So I've been involved with this situation where whoever holds a certain title gained through combat gets to be my future groom thanks to my rotten father, and while before I was trying to get to Earth to escape it all, the title ended up being (accidentally) won in a duel by this girl who chose to fight for me when she barely even knew me, since she didn't like how my previous groom was treating me. I did still want to go to Earth after this, but over time, I began getting to know her better, and eventually, I didn't want to or have to run away, all because of her, and now all I want is to be with her.
The problem is her mother, as well as everything around the duels which got her the title of my groom in the first place. My ex-groom would do anything her mother tells her, and told me once that she would even go as far as killing if her mother told her to, because she believes every word her mother tells her and thinks she's always right, even when I'm not sure that her mother has her best intentions in mind, especially because I know that her mother has mostly revenge in mind at this point. I confronted her mother about this, and told her to keep my ex-groom away from everything involving her revenge and the duels, since I just want her to be safe from it all.
Eventually, we agreed on a plan which would keep my groom safe, which is where I may be TA. My father has been in a coma for a while now, but he had a secret project that I had taken his place in earlier due to my groom's mother, as well as a lot of power in the business world, and my groom's mother wanted me to take over his company as well. I agreed, but another condition was added, one which would get my groom out of the picture, but would still probably hurt her. For what had just become my 17th birthday, the age at which I want meant to be married, I organized a duel between my groom and the guy who was my groom before her. The terms were set so that if the guy who was previously my groom before won, he would not only become my groom, but he would take what my groom used to battle with him, which was an important stake due to it both removing my groom from the duels and being an important part of my groom's mother's own plans, though I knew it would hurt my groom further, because she basically saw it as a sister. The thing is, I rigged it against her, since I installed an app onto her handbook which would shut down her mech entirely and cause her to lose.
When she was fighting and I was about to cause her to lose, she began talking about how much she was looking forward to marrying me and being with me, which made it very difficult to cause her to give up our relationship, but I caused her to lose anyways, and afterwards, I took back the title of my groom rom my now ex-groom, gave her back a gift she gave me before and said goodbye, while trying to distance myself from her to make it easier for her to move on.
I feel horrible about it now. I know I hurt her, but I know I needed to to protect her. I'm not in her life anymore, but neither is her mother, so she's safe from her revenge, and neither are the duels she was part of, so she's safe from that all. I know there's no true freedom from the weapons used in those duels, but she's not being controlled anymore, she's safe and I hope that she's begun to move on and live life without anybody else's control or influence. I hate going on without her, and saying it's painful to go on with her mother's plans instead of spending every day with her would be an understatement, but I know I kept her safe. Still, I did take everything from her just to keep her safe, including what she viewed as a sister and our whole relationship, I was harsher than I would have liked to have been, I did practically publically divorce her and I didn't tell her anything because I was afraid she'd go against my attempts to keep her safe, so, I need to ask, AITA?

Omg whats this situation Saito manipulated that makes ryuki think he saved him these posts are driving me crazy
Tumblr media
AITSF / AINI SPOILERS. and another long one because how do I even begin to explain
To be honest, we haven’t really ironed this part out because it’s an elaborate play and I personally don’t have the brain cells to put the details together yet. Which is necessary because at some point Ryuki does question everything about the incident and that’s when it all falls apart. But very roughly speaking, the order of events is as follows:
Uru approaches Saito about ruining/killing Jin Furue, who he thinks is Tokiko’s lover (he doesn’t know he’s her son, which is … awkward). He goes to Saito about it because Saito is their dad’s mouthpiece to the yakuza and figures he can help him with this sabotage.
Saito first finds it impressively ballsy that Uru would ask for something like that but tells him he can’t, since using their Kumakura connections in a way that would escalate the scale of the crimes they commit with them could get their father into devastating trouble. Also he just doesn’t find Uru’s petty jealousy to be worth it.
Uru is intent on this though and blackmails him by bringing up Ryuki’s twin (Yukuto)’s murder six years ago (blah blah, you owe me because I covered for you then, blah blah). They get in a nasty fight about how dare he do this, Uru is a coward for hiding behind Saito and the yakuza instead of doing it himself, it is very weird how down bad he is for Tokiko, etc etc. Saito is furious but for now, he has to follow through. He will get Uru for this down the line.
This is where the details get fuzzy — Saito somehow freaks Jin out to a point of paranoia, wherein Jin believes people are coming to get him for whatever reason. Whatever it is, Jin can’t go to the police about it, nor can his parents help him.
Ryuki goes to meet Jin at his house with Saito, with the intention of questioning him about Music Foods’ association with Bats490. He brings Saito along because Jin refused to meet with him at first and Saito says he’s vaguely familiar with Jin, as they’ve met at a party, so he’s hoping Saito’s presence will draw Jin out.
Jin, throughly spooked and convinced that the mob has come for him, attempts to shoot them as they break in out of concern, given that Jin is not answering but they know full well that he’s in. Ryuki reacts accordingly thanks to Tama but Jin stuns him, taking him down and knocking out Tama, and holds Saito at gunpoint. Ryuki manages to recover in time to shoot Jin and kill him before Saito gets shot.
A couple of things:
Ryuki is not sorry about killing Jin because Jin was going to kill Saito, so it was justified in his mind. But it does unnerve him greatly to have taken a life. Saito comforts him and validates the act because it “saved” him. Meeting with him and getting this validated makes him feel better, but it’s not good for him.
Ryuki has no idea why Jin reacted the way he did, and the fact that Jin was also illegally armed further makes Jin look like he was super guilty of something related to the case, derailing the investigation slightly.
A lot of things could have gone terribly wrong in the confrontation itself. But I’m gonna be real, I don’t think Saito is all that concerned about dying so much as he’s afraid of living with the consequences of what he does so the danger of it isn’t that big of a deal to him. Worst case scenario, he was going to just kill them both and then frame it as a whole thing where they killed each other.
It does suck for him to not be able to get directly involved in the murder act, sure, but going about it this way means that Saito is not even a suspect in Jin’s murder and he gets the fun benefit of watching Ryuki struggle. Very cool!

Do you think Angel Dust really wants to change or is he just wanna stay away from Val?
[Oh! My chance to go off on sinners and lack of understanding sin, been waiting for this. Give me a quick moment to download my brain.
*insert jeopardy music*
Angel Dust aka Anthony Anthony was born on April 1st alongside his twin sister, Molly, and died in his 30s in 1947 of a drug overdose. Angel comes from an extended mob family, who are all "horrible people", and are mostly also all in Hell. They all appear as spider-based demons due to their "web of crime", with the majority of Angel's immediate family having drug-themed names (though I'm unsure of what drug Arackniss is tied to other than maybe crack). Angel was from New York when he was alive. Angel was of Italian heritage when he was alive. Angel got into sex work pretty early upon arriving in Hell, rejecting his family's mob dealings, something that Vivziepop plans to explore in the show.
Before I get sidetracked I'll answer you vaguely...Maybe. Because humans are complicated things and change is hard for us to do (see all of history for that example). But with his character growth so far, he's showing signs of positive change and that's happening so long as he's away from Val. Val is a drug, a poison, and the longer under Val he is the worse he is gonna get. So is Angel just using this to get away from Val? Yes, but he's getting the help he needs regardless of his intent originally just to have a free room, and now he is there because he WANTS to be there.
Now the hard part, does he want to change...That's iffy. Because he's used to living a certain way and dealing with things in his own way which is countered by change. I can't begin to imagine the life of a drug-toting mob family in New York following the era of prohibition, let alone being gay while doing so in a time where being gay would get you killed (we never learn). But! One thing I do know and understand is action/reasoning behind intent which is the fundamental flaw Heaven has when it comes to sin.
Stealing is a sin. But...Is it a sin to take if you have no other choice and it's to help others than just yourself? Is it still a sin when you have no choice and it's the only option you have? Situational sin is something I hope gets brought up in the show because it would further show the hypocrisy of good and evil. Is the man who killed another worthy of burning in Hell or should he have not shot the guy that broke into his home high off his ass swinging a machete? Context and situations matter. A woman who sells her body for money is a sinner to some yet maybe that's the only way she can support her family and survive, which is fucked up because not only is it sad but Jesus hung out with Mary Magdalene! A prostitute who is now canonized as a saint. How can one be okay but the other not?
Am I ranting? Probably. Am I saying Angel had a situation where context could be argued to help alleviate some of his sins? Maybe...some, not all. I mean, his mother and sister were a part of the "family" but they ended up in Heaven. Maybe their involvement wasn't so much as the men but still that doesn't mean they don't have dirty hands too. Intent matters too and that's where free will blurs that line. You can intend to get high and have a good time...what you didn't intend was for the drugs to be bad and you broke into someone's home in the middle of the night with a machete completely naked which got you shot before you overdosed. (this wild example shows how from Florida I am) But I'll cut myself off before this gets out of hand.
My point is, we as humans are flawed and change is fundamental to anything trying to grow/evolve in this world. The message of the show is that anyone can change their lives for the better, even when at their lowest point, so long as they try. And that's the honest truth. The irony of Hell preaching to be better people is not lost on me.]
