Neddy is a very thoughtful little boy, such a perfect child. But when he's a teenager, did he blame Anthony for not being there in the beginning? Maybe during an argument with his father? Can we please see it 🙏🏼
Part of me’s like No, Don’t hurt this Anthony and Kate any more and the rest’s like Kick ‘em again!
But imagine, Anthony worried about Neddy who’s about to turn eighteen.
“Ned, Mate, I’m not saying you’re irresponsible.” Anthony sighed, “I just want you to be careful.”
“You are saying that!” Neddy said wildly, “That’s exactly what you’re saying!”
“I’m not. I just think you need to think through your-”
“Oh! I need to think through my actions?!” His son fumed, his jaw set angrily just the way Kate’s did when she was furious, “Is that what you were going to say?! Because I don’t think you’re in any position to lecture me, Dad.”
“Neddy.” Kate warned him sharply, her eyes narrowing but Neddy shook his head and Anthony’s stomach sunk.
“No, remind me, Dad. Where the fuck were you when I was born?”
“Neddy, I’m not-” Anthony started but it was weak through the lump in his throat as he stared back at his son. Neddy was taller than Anthony was now, his shoulders broad and his curly hair falling around his face but he still looked so young. Just like that tiny boy who had been so excited to meet him. The dimples in his cheeks popping out even now that he was angry.
“Dad, when you were my age, older than I am now, actually, you left your pregnant fucking girlfriend. You left her, you left me. So don’t lecture me about responsibility.”
“Edmund, Enough!” Kate thundered, her hand closing around Anthony’s forearm.
There was nothing Anthony could say. Nothing that would make what had happened okay, and he knew that. “It’s fine, Kate. Let him go.”
“It’s not fine.” She said as Neddy, strode across the room, throwing open the door. “Edmund, come back and apologise to your father.”
The door slammed shut and Anthony felt as though the wind had been knocked out of him. “Let him calm down.”
Kate’s arms were soft and warm around him, cradling him against her chest, “You didn’t know, Anthony. It was… so much more complicated than that and you know that.”
He nodded, his heart still pounding in his ears and they stayed locked together for several long moments before Anthony sighed. “I should go and find him.”
“Want me to come?”
“No. I need to talk to him about this.”
The evening air was cold as Anthony stepped onto the street, looking around already for any sign of his son. Of where he would have gone. And then he heard it. It was barely audible but Anthony followed the noise and the site broke his heart. Neddy was huddled at the side of the building, tears rolling down his cheeks as sobs wracked his body.
“Neddy.”
His head shot up at the sound of Anthony’s voice and that only seemed to make his son sob harder, his entire body shaking. “I’m sorry, I’m so sorry, Dad. Please don’t leave me.”
“I’m not going anywhere now, Son.”

A Gentle Smile
Masterpost
Growing up in heaven, Emily's seen the best of humanity. She's pretty optimistic most of the time, so when she meets Alastor she takes his kindness at face value. She doesn't know he's a murderer just yet.
Alastor does see an opportunity to endeer (hah) himself to a powerful being... But he's also a gentleman. He'll be nice to her, even if it's just because it's the polite thing to do. He is the hotel's host, after all! Plus, she's better company than most of the damned souls down here!

molly I have to know how Anthony responds to seeing Kate with the ring he gave her all those years ago. Does he have a real sapphire for her instead? or does she keep the first one?
great update 🩵
It’s going to be revealed in the next chapter that Anthony’s had Kate’s wedding ring for a long time. It’s a real Sapphire, flanked by Diamonds, looks like this
He bought it when he was eighteen and he was going to give it to her on the train platform, get down on one knee all over again. But he never had the chance and he couldn’t bring himself to throw it away so he kept it in his desk drawer. All these years. And now he figures he might as well give it to her. He’s never imagined himself married to anyone else, he just wishes it wasn’t like this. He wishes he was still the boy who gave her that plastic ring. He wishes he was still the sixteen year old boy who gave his first kiss to a pretty girl at a party and admitted it seconds later, embarrassed that he’d held onto it for so long but also somehow glad that he saved it for her.
He wishes he’d never hurt her, or they’d run away together or even that he’d been brave enough to take the beating her father probably would have given him. He wishes he’d been there when Neddy was born and taken his first steps, and he wishes he’s answered the phone to get just once. But he didn’t. And now all he has left of that life is this ring. So he wants her to have at least that.
